At school, at stoplights, at the mall, on the street - you don't have to look very hard to find security cameras. Some people feel this is an invasion of privacy - that it's impossible to go about our daily business without being recorded. Others say it helps keep us safer - after all, security cameras helped identify the suspects in the Boston terror bombings.
Where do you stand on the debate?
Carl Azuz, Anchor
Security cameras overall are a good thing, they keep us safe. Especially in freak accidents similar to the Boston incident. Without so many people filming or security cameras, there would be a VERY slim chance of catching the person commiting the crime. Yes, we feel like we are almost always being watched. And yes, when it comes down to it most people will be thankful for them.
If we didn't have these security cameras we wouldn't know about the suspects in the boston bombing, also these cameras have been installed to protect us not to take away our privacy
In my opinion, the security cameras are a good idea. It could be a way of embarrasement, if i tripped there's a possibilty that it would be on youtube or facebook. But then again, how much privacy do you need on a street? There are lots of cars that travel on streets, police are included. Street cameras would most likely prevent crimes. If people knew there was a camera watching, they would not want to commit the crime, because they know they are going to get caught.
I agree.I could not have said it better myself. 🙂
I agree . The world would be a much safer place if everyone knew someone was watching their every move .
I agree Bethany, but I disagree as well because they invade people's personal life. In malls, Wal-Marts, and other top stores, yes, but on sidewalks and in parks, now, that's overreacting just a little bit. They see you when you're babysitting your little brothers or just being weird around your friends. I say it's an issue because it leads to privacy loss and people suing each other.
you know i really think the cameras will see the suspect in a way but not very clearly so you do have a chance i think the cameras need to be improved so you can see the suspect if you want privacy just be in your house or somthing
Yes, it's true that they keep us safe. Those cameras can show who has done what. If a crime has been committed, then the cameras show at least a hint of who did it, which is very helpful for police. It may be good for that, but it is also takes away privacy. You are recorded virtually almost all the time, whether you like it or not, and there really isn't anything you can do about it. It is a breach in privacy.
i agree on what your saying because it is helpful for the police and it can keep people safe and prevent something terrible happening in the world or to someone.on both your responses on how its right and wrong .
of course they should keep security cameras on the roads and in the public of America because if we take them down crime rates might go up and the criminals will be getting away. In todays world national safety should be one of the countries' biggest concerns
I can see why people are saying this. I think that security camera's might be going to far, but in another sense, it helps regulate things going on around us.
Thank you Cyrus I. Agree with you I just could not find the right words for my comment so yours is wat I might think of doing something like that for mine.
You are most welcome.
It is just my opinion but the cameras in boston did not keep us safe 3 people died.. hundreds hurt all it does is make it easier for police and government to pry into the lives of ordinary citizens. at times to many cameras and witnesses can actually hinder an investigation. The government dropped the ball on this one they had prior notice to the possible activities of these terrorist and choose not to pursue the case.
I would rather be watched by cameras and stay safe the not be watched be cameras and not be safe.
Safety comes first.
I think that this is perfectly fine. you are in a public place, so you don't have privacy in the first place. This would only give authorities another set of eyes to keep us safe, and track down criminals
Serctiey carmas are an invasion towards bening alone and sound not be alound
I think security cameras are one of the best ideas in...forever, really. They're not there to invade privacy, but to protect the people and identify suspects of crimes, like the Boston marathon bombing. Saying they are invading privacy is like saying police searches are unethical. Security cameras are always going to be there, might as well get used to them.
(Waving at them in stores is fun too 😀
Sure, they help identify the suspects, but cameras should be able to stop these kind of crimes before they happen. Did catching them on camera save any lives that day? No. They did not.
I think that security cameras invade our personal privacy because what if I was just talking to my friends or kissing my boyfriend. Myself and others would not want that on camera. I feel that it violates the freedom of us and what the U.S.A is trying to set as an example. It would make us look like fools.
Maybe so but if your going to do something that you don't want people to see, then do it in your own house or somewhere private. These cameras are going to be in PUBLIC places were there are tons of people and cars to see us too. People say that them being on sidewalks and streets is ridiculous but look what just happned in Boston! The crime was right on a sidewalk and without the cameras, then the chances of these men being caught is much slimmer than it was with the cameras.
Privacy must not mean the same. If you wanted that much privacy why would you be kissing your boyfriend in any public place. there is one exception and that is if your home happened to be in the cameras frame. Then you would be able to say that it invades your privacy. I would say it keeps the people safe and has some type of evidence if a situation was to happen.
I understand what you meant but in this day and age, privacy is not a given or privilege. You cannot even go on the internet without them tracking what you do. Many people need to come to the crude reality- America does not care about privacy when it comes to protecting us as a whole or it's people.
Hmmm. I guess I have to say yes to the cameras because then the police will get info on anything that happens like the boston marathon bombing. SAFETY FIRST!!!!!!
i believe cameras in large cities are important to public safety
Public areas are not ment to be private. If you want privacy stay in your house. I believe having cameras in public is a good safety idea.
I think security cameras are great because they helped find the suspects in the Boston bombing. Security cameras are fine. They aren't invading your privacy. Yes, they may be able to watch what you're doing, but there's nothing to be scared of! That's if you are a good person.
I do not want to live in a Brave New World where my privacy is at risk for the sake of safety?
privacy doesn't really matter if your dead does it? As many people have pointed out, public places aren't meant to be private anyways so if you want privacy, than go somewhere private, because public places are owned by the government and if cameras help them catch/prevent crimes, then I'm all for it.
I can see their point about identify the suspects or illegal things. But there a point where it goes too far into people life. We just have to set a certain point for security cameras.
I think that it is wrong. We should have our privacy.
Security is better because the land that you are on is not yours, so why should you have full privacy on it? It is far more important to make the lives of the citizens safe and without any possible dangers than to have privacy.
Security cameras are not a problem. To some people it invades their privacy but I believe they are very useful, for instance they used security cameras to identify and find suspects of the Boston bombing.
I do agree it could keep civilians safe, however you have to make sure not to go overboard with it. Don't spy unless you see unnatural behavior in an individual.
I feel like everyone has a sense of privacy. Putting up extra cameras is good only to prevent such horrific crimes like the Boston Bombing. However, if it interferes with the citizens rights and their privacy, it then becomes a problem.
I think that cameras shouldn't be used in a way that might violate someone's privacy. Some things might have to be given up, but i think privacy is something that should not be controlled by the government
I can understand it in some perspectives but others I don't... People need privacy yet we do need evidence for situations like the Boston Bombings or similar situations.
Even if security camera does harm our privacy, we still need cameras in our life. Because of the cameras, we could catch Boston terrorists and now feel safe. Everything has good and bad aspects. For our safe society and comfortable life, we cannot live without security cameras.
I say people should not worry about cameras on streets or public places these are one of the ways cops find and identify people who want to cause trouble. If it wasn't for these kind of cameras FBI would have never found the Boston suspects. As long as you don't try funny business in public then you shouldn't worry who is watching you. Come on people. Worry about bigger things than that....
As soon as an individual steps out of his/her home, privacy becomes public. In today's day and age,
security should be of high importance, and cameras on public streets to monitor the safety of Americans
should not be debated by civil liberties advocates. I'd rather be featured on a camera than read in a
newspaper or online as a statistic and victim of violence.
i don't think it's an invasion of privacy especialy when your in public yo can't have privacy in public it's public plus it helps us find crime like with the explosion and detect bullying
Dixon is right if we didn't have cameras out in public who knows what would be going on. More people would be getting kidnapped, and raped. People would be plant bombs in public places. Kids would be getting bullied as we know it. People would be robbing more banks, stores and houses. It would just be handfuls of things people would do.
I think that is kinda creepy. That gives me a sense that creepers are watching day and night.but I would be ok with their being cameras in a buisness for security in case of a break in but other than that it's just weird.
I agree kinda but the government needs to stop framing people 9/11 and Boston they framed those guy i am talking about Obama and CNN has the wrong side of the story.
i think it would be beter if they only put up abut 5 in realy good places so people are still safe and cant see them as much
There are certain areas that security cameras should be, and certain areas where they shouldn't be. For example, security cameras in places like schools and airports are acceptable in my opinion, because that is good for safety. However, a security camera in a bathroom? That is an invasion of privacy.
I wouldn't really mind if there were cameras around. As long as they weren't in bathrooms and in my own home I think they would help in solving more crimes and making the cities and towns safer.
I think that having the camera's everywhere like the government has them is a good thing because they help us catch criminals.
I think that security cameras can be used for our safety. But I also feel as if they're not giving us our privacy by watching us all the time. They should only be able to use them for criminal cases and nothing else.
I think it's fine because it keeps everybody safe. Sometimes it's not fine because it doesn't give us our privacy. I think it's okay to record at the mall and on the street because it keeps everyone safe. I think that's where most of the crime happens. I think it's awesome that security helped catch the Boston terrorists.
Cameras and security devices should be allotted to an extent. Surveillance cameras in public places would help police and investigators catch criminals, such as in the Boston Bombing. However, to give citizens privacy, cameras should not be allowed a persons house or in public restrooms.
I feel that the cameras are only there to for security. Not to harm anyone's personal privacy. They are there to help the cops catch criminals in the act.
I think that the security cameras are not a breach of privacy. Its not like they're in your house watching your private life. So security cameras are alright in my opinion.
Security cameras, while sometimes invading our privacy, have caught criminals for a longtime. If it wasn't for the cameras in Boston, the terrorists would have never been caught and they could have struck again.
I think only criminals should complain because its not like these cameras are in the bathrooms. If it wasn't for the cameras the Boston bombers would of blown few more things up.
Security cameras are not an invasion of privacy, because they do not show the intimate details of our lives. They exist out in public, not in our homes. Protecting us against criminals is more important than us caring about the cameras showing us walking down a street.
Security cameras should not be all over the streets. They cost too much, hurting the taxpayers. Crimes have been solved in the past without cameras, so we can survive without them still.
i think to have security cameras is okay to have around a lot because if we didn't have them we would not be able to find the suspects for many causes.
I don't mind the cameras, but they are really invasive
I think there should only be camares in stores and near really important places and busy places
Well me I would not like the way the government would watch us every single minute of the day.. Yeah I can see we want to find out the people who made a disgrace to our country. But I would not like the government to hear and see my private life and my personal thing that I don't want other people to know. And I would hate if i was doing something impressing during something they were recording and it made the news I would be detested. But that's just me!!!!!!!!
Privacy vs security: Privacy all the way
Honeslty if losing alittle privacy means saving lifes then I am all for it.
Benjamin Franklin: "He who gives up liberty for security has neither."
Would you rather be safe or sorry?
The Boston marathon was really upsetting to many people and it should never ever happen again
I think it's a good thing to have. I'd rather be safe and have somebody see me do something embarrassing, then have burglars, terrorists, and other criminals on the looses because we can't see what they look like.
I think it's good to have security but it is kind of getting involved with people's privacy but I think its better to be safe so i don't really mind having cameras every where if its going to help our country and the cameras are obviously helping if we caught the terrorist from Boston and it would have been a lot harder without the cameras.
The Boston Marathon was very upsetting to many people it was very scary for the runners and all the people watching I just wanted to say sorry for if you lost a loved one.
If you are not doing anything that you shouldn't do, you shouldn't worry. It is no different than anyone else walking down the street that see you. Personally, I would rather be safe than sorry. Without these cameras, people like the Boston Marathon bombers, or car thieves, or murders would be harder to identify without stopping witnesses if any.
It makes sense for more surveilance cameras to be used for the sole purpose of protecting our country from anymore terrorist attacks. The pros outway the cons for placing more security cameras, and can prevent anything bad from occuring, like fights, attacks, or other suspicious activity.
to me its ok to have security at public places or events, but to broadcast events that would lead a terror to come and terrorize the place. Like i mentioned security is good but it should only be in public places. To me the marathon event shouldnt have broadcasted about it a week early because that gives someone the opprotunity to do crime
I think we should keep it there because if the camaras help us get the suspects in the boston bombing maybe it can help us with other unsolved crimes.
I think that the cameras are okay. If you were worried about the cameras then that mean you have done something you shouldn't have. These cameras also have odviously helped catch suspects of a crime.
I think it helps if we have security cameras. If you dont want to have them then you shouldn't be in public. It can be really helpful to everyone we woundn't have got the people in boston if it wasn't for the cameras.
I learned in Civics class last year that you have to choose between either being safe or private, and as much as I would love to have privacy, I would rather loose privacy than my life.
I think its a good idea to have cameras in public. Whatever happens in public is fair game, but if they start putting cameras near my house thats when I'll draw the line with my privacy concerns.
I personally don't mind extra security cameras, because if I don't do anything wrong, I have nothing to fear. Security cameras can help keep an eye on the people who really are doing something bad.
The security guards that watch the tapes are trained and they are not specifically looking for YOU as they watch them. It is a perfect way for our government officals to keep our country safe.
The cameras in public are there for a reason....SAFETY!!! The security guard/police are watching for people that might be a harm to the people or city. It's public!!!!! At home you can do what ever you want and there are no cameras because that is not public. Your house is your house and you can do whatever you want there but when you are in public the police/security guards are watching for YOUR safety!!! If you arent doing anything bad in public then why should you be complaining..... your house is your house the public is the public!
The goverment officials should keep the camers and keep watching them. The reason for that is becuase if something were to happen like a shooting, drive by, bombing, etc. then they can pin point who did it or at least narrow down the suspect list.
A public place is not YOUR private space. If you wanted to go somewhere private try your home. These security cameras helped identify the suspects in the Boston Marathon bombing so these public places with cameras help protect the citizens.
I feel like it's an invasion of people's privacy. Yes, it helps keep us safe, but sometimes people need there privacy. They can't get that if security cameras are watching your every move.
The camaras are for SAFTY! i feel safe having camaras cause if we didnt we wouldnt know who was responsible for the Boston Bombing and there mite be more hurt people in the world. Without camaras we would probably be in a lot of danger.
I think camras can go either way camras can be an invasion in privacy but it can also be a source of safety. Camras are special to our society they catch crimes they catch speeding and they even prevent these problems from hapening. overall camras help us more than they hurt us.
I honestly think that we should have security because it could help us. just think about after 911 all the security things you have to go through. it will help us in the long run to catch the bad people.
The cameras should be there. They help us in a lot of ways. People can have privacy in their own homes not outside where everyone can see you.
I think that security cameras are important because they help keep us safe. LIke if they catch something on the camera that can help with police business.
I have two opinions about all that. most people find that sucrety cameras are violations of codes. A lot of people hate pictures of them much less videos. I dont mind pictures. I think yeah somtimes cameras are good. They need cameras for big edvents like paraids circuses and now races and marathons... yeah i guees schools is okay incase of fights. malls shoud have then in case people decide to steel. in bathroms are way to personal. its an invasion of priveicy. things like the boston bombing are not exeptable in the us. if people cant be trusted the n we need camras evry were not all people are trusted. trust needs to be earnd. any ways have a good day
I think we need security cameras. We stopped the bombers of the Boston Marathon with them. We could save ourselves from something like this from happening again thanks to these cameras. And if it does, we'll be able to track the criminals easier.
Security cameras do not invade people's privacy, because the cameras are not located in private places. Cameras are not placed in bathrooms, locker rooms, or inside our homes where we require to most privacy. The cameras in public typically view us walking or driving. As long as you are not doing anything illegal you should not be worried about the cameras in public.
I think its ok to have cameras places. I mean if we didnt have cameras people would not be cought doing bad things. But they shouldnt have cameras in random places like in the bushes at the park. I`ve never seen cameras expet on rides to take your picture or when you first walk in the grocery store.
i think its good because sombody might get kidnapped.
I think cameras are good for security and all, but do we really want people watching us? On the flip side, they do help solve crime and keep areas secure, so it's a small price to pay for security
i think it is good because a person could kidnap a person and the police need proof.
i think it is a good idia because a person could kidnap another person and the police will need proof.
I think that it is good because they are trying to protect us but I don't want to think that im being watched every where I go
I think that it is a very good idea to have cameras everywhere, because it shouldn't bother anyone as long as they aren't doing anything wrong.
I think it an invasion of privacy it is ok at stop lights and other places like that but when they are watching you twenty four seven that is just creepy
I think it is fine, because if someone attacks you the police will be there to help you. As long as they don't record me every second of my life, I think it helps a lot.
Well, I'm glad they caught the guy that attacked Boston. But in a way it feels in uncomfortable, like I'm being watched 24/7. I feel that we all need more privacy
I think security cameras are a good idea. They can help catch bad people.
I think that it is okay for cameras, as long as it can be used for tragedies like the Boston bombing. It is not okay if the cameras are stalking you, and people are watching your every move.
Well it's an invasion of privacy but its also good because you can catch a thief and criminals so I'm 50/50
People value their privacy, and if someone is watching us all of the time, we could become scared. And one we become scared, people would be scared to go out of their homes, and that could be a threat to businesses, and the economy.
I agree with Lauren if people watch us to closely it will make people go on strike and the economy will collapse and make us an easier target for terrorist groups.
This is not an invasion of privacy. An invasion of privacy is a peep hole. These security cameras are to keep people and children safe.
I believe if personally owned business's want to have security cameras are okay. To help find a burglar or criminal. But if the don't need the tape it should be disposed of.
I think it's for the publics safety. I also think that there shouldn't be a lot of security cameras. I think we should have more security cameras in bigger cities and big events for our safety.
In the public cities, I agree they should have security cameras because what if there was a robbery? We wouldn't be able to find a suspect. But in small cities or towns, they should maybe have one camera on a busy shop, if they shall have a robbery or any emergency for suspects.
The U.S is protecting us so security will help us protect our cities.
When there watching us at the mall or at a stoplight that's ok, but when there watching our every move then it's weird.
School, stoplights, street, and mostly at the mall, like at Walmart there are sings that there are security cameras are on duty.
I think that security cameras are and are not a violation of privacy. They are needed for privacy concerns and in the Boston terror attack, to catch a suspect. In daily life I don't think that we need them, because innocent people don't need to watched 24/7.
When there are some cameras watching hats fine but when you can't go any where with out being watched then its to much
This a threat to people, and people don't want to be watched all if the time. It's a big threat to privacy, and the economy
I don't think that security cameras are an invasion of privacy at all. They are meant to keep us safe. I mean if anything like this happens again I would like to know that we can look at those and see if their was anything suspicious.
I think that having cameras on people in local places is a good idea just for the sake of safety. But I don't want it to get to the point where their watching me in my own room.
I think it is okay for the government to use cameras everywhere. It will make us safer and help them catch the bad guys quicker. The only place where you can and should do things private is your home.
I think it is kinda creepy that cameras are always watching me. Its a invasion of privacy if there is cameras are always watching you.
I think camera's don't need to be filming us 24/7 its kinda creepy. People need privacy to
I dont think it is right for them to do that. And that they can watch everyone is scary too.
It's annoying for cameras to be watching your every move, but necessary in situations such as what happened in Boston.
I think that the security cameras are a good thing. It makes me comfortable to know that if there are criminals out there, security cameras can help catch them. Also, if you are not doing anything wrong, you should have no reason to be uncomfortable with the cameras.
I think cameras in these days may be useful, i dont care if people are watching my every steps.
I don't mind that people can see me true video camera's on the streets, if something happens like in Boston the police can find the suspect faster.
i think we should have cameras, because for them we wouldn't have criminals in jail. we complain about them doing bad things and now we are complaining about having the cameras that helps make it safer. Cameras should stay.
I don't agree with it. I feel like it's just an excuse for the government to be allowed to spy on us and take our rights away as human beings. Security cameras INSIDE stores and such are alright but on the streets and sidewalks is just a little ridiculous.
If you don't like the camera's in public places like the STREETS AND SIDE WALKS GO SOMEWHERE PRIVATE
Why would the want to take away are rights?
I believe that it is much safer to have security cameras set up a local businesses, stop lights, schools, etc. Security cameras helped identify the suspects in the Boston bombings, and with all of the other attacks that have been going on around the world, I think that it is a good idea to have security cameras installed. In fact, I think that people should start having security cameras installed on their properties. All of us would be safe, and the cops would have an easier time tracking down criminals or terrorists, and hopefully, bring down the rates of bombings, shoot-outs, murders, etc. So, privacy versus security? Security all of the way!
Camera's play an important factor in security. Why should people worry about their privacy being invaded if all they are doing is walking in the streets, walking in the hallways at school, buying things in the mall? The point of a security camera is to watch for illegal doing. If anything, camera's make streets, schools, and stores safer for the community.
YOU ARE TOTALLY RIGHT
I think that are privacy is being infringed upon to a degree we have never seen but that this infringement is acceptable because of the advantages it give us in finding criminals such as the Boston Bombers. However i don't believe that the government's use of all are technologies should go beyond this point.
I think that they should have the cameras but not in personal places.. such as restrooms, but then they should still have them to proect innocent people, like the ones in Boston.
What are you talking about? they don't put cams in restrooms!!!!!
i agree
I beleive that the government should be able to check what everyone is doing out in public. It helps solve crimes, catch criminals, etc. It isn't like the government is placing video camera's in our houses, they only use these cameras out in public. I am okay with giving up a little bit of my privacy for more security.
I think that the cameras are fine. The cameras have been here the whole time so why would we change that. They helped to catch the boston bombers. Therefor they should just leave it the way it is
I think that camereas are aight they do catch crime and stuff.
I would rather be safe than sorry. Since thats how they catch most crimanls I think its okay. If they catch them they won't be causing anymore trouble. Also it's not like anyone can see the viedo only police and goverment officials so I don't see the problen.
I think that the security cameras help us with our world now.The world has become a dangerous place to live in so we can use all the help we can get trying to track down the criminals. Also we wouldn't need these security cameras if people would stop hurting each other and planning attackason each other!!!
I think that having security cameras in public is a smart idea. For example the Boston bombing, if we didn't have the security cameras then there would be 2 dangerous people still out there. I do not think that it invades privacy and it is for security reasons only.
I think that cameras should be allowed. Everyday, strangers see you outside and the goverment are the people who see these videos. The goverment already knows about us, so why is it so bad? It has benefits like catching criminals and nobody thinks facebook is bad when its worse. People can't stalk and get information about you from the cameras.
Honestly its not really because if your in public if you want to keep you privicyyou should stay in the house. And it can be because you kind of popping there bubble as people say.
What would officials have done about the terrorist attack without cameras? Nobody knows. If they are used only for safety and security I'd say they're fine. But are they saving all the recordings? I don't think they need to save recordings of years ago. Technology seems to be taking this a little too far. If this continues, where privacy go?
I you're already in public then they're not invading your privacy unless they have cameras to where they are able to see things inside your car.
I think that if your out in public everyone can see what your doing so I think it really doesn't matter. Also it helped catch the Boston terrorist so if we didnt have security cameras they would still be out there bombing places.
Privacy in public doesnt really matter because you are around thousands of people. Security is important to moniter those thousands of people. If somebody wants privacy, they should just stay home.
The cameras are not invading our privacy we are in public so why does it bother us they say they have cameras and they make the area safer and help the police stop criminals before they do more harm.
It doesn't matter that you're privacy is getting violated when there are millions of people around you. It matters if there is security cameras to catch one or more people trying to do harm to those millions of people.
We should have cameras, they keep us safe and help find evidence of many things. If anything its not really invading privacy we all have privacy but if you want the worls to be a better place then let the cameras stay where they are. If you think the cameras are are invading privacy then why do the things you're going to do. Dont do bad things, then the cameras wont be a problem.
I think that it is a good thing because they are making america safe and also finding horrible people like the Boston Bombers. They should keep doing it and keepind America SAFE!!!
My views on privacy and security are very positive. It's a great advantage that we can use. Especially in crime incident reports. For example if there wasn't any public security. We wouldn't have gotten this far in the Boston bombing case.
i think everyone has a sense of privacy. Putting up more cameras is fine only to prevent crimes like the Boston bombing. But if its interferes with the people rights and their privacy, it then becomes a problem.
I think we that there should be no hiding from some security cameras in public,if there wasnt imagine were we would be if we didnt have it during the boston bombing........
I think that camaras should be put in public places such as stores but not in private places. I think this because if it were not for those camaras in boston the bombers could still be out there and many more people could die so its better if public places have camars, to keep us all feeling more secure.
I dont think that it is invading peoples privacy. As we have seen in the pass that security cameras help the police find the suspects.I dont think that we should take them away because people feel that its invading there privacy. The cameras can help in diffrent ways like during the boston marathon they were able to see the guys who where around the bombs before the explosion. If we didnt have those cameras they might have done it again and they might still be out there.
I have to agree with those who support public news recordings. This is because now we have this advanced technology meant to help with finding criminals and stopping them and it would be silly to not continue to improve it. Although I do see why some people would feel uncomfortable with peering eyes watching you. But when you think about it there is always a set of eyes watching you and even judging you no mater whwere you go. The only way to advance as a society is to employ professionals to watch the video feeds so that we can continue in this field of technology and learn to feel safe around them rather than insecure.
I think security cameras are one of the best inventions made by mankind. They show us the people that walk around on streets, in stores and all around us. Its not really invading your privacy because your out in public with everyone else not in your home. They also helped us find the suspects to the Boston Bombers. Overall i believe security cameras hel pus with our everday lives.
As long as they stay out of hotel rooms, public restrooms, and my house, I'm all for it. But if they start invading those places, well, that's when it'll feel like the Hunger Games. I think that we have a right to privacy in at least those places. Jesus Himself occasionally went off to be on His own, and if that doesn't entitle us to privacy, nothing will!
I think that if there are camaras searching public places than we would be a lot safer and if the camaras at the boston bombing were not there than they might not have gotton them and more people would be killed, and its not like you were not already in public anyway.
i thank it would be fin because if you do that you can find him or her 🙂
you should use the goverments camers.
I think that it was good they had cameras to watch because other people would be very safe.
In a store yes but not in a house.
yes i think it is ok that they put cameras on peoples houses to catch the bad guys.
I think it is okay, because if someone robed they would be able to catch the robber.
I think that if some one would use surveillance cameras for a good reason, such as for security or traffic, that would be fine. However, if it would be used for something bad such as to invade a sense of privacy, I would disagree.
We think that you should only spy on people if that person was doing some thing really bad like what those two brothers were, so they can be watched because they did something bad and not every body does.
At the time they used the cameras was good but the rest
of the time was invading other peoples privacy.
I'm glad cameras are set in place for public security purposes. Imagine all the crimes that would go unsolved without these recordings! As long as the cameras are only in public places, I don't feel like my rights are being violated.
Benjamin Franklin once said something like "Anyone who is willing to give up freedom for safety deserves neither. This is one of America's founding principles. If the government can do anything, watch anything, in the pretense of safety, then what do we have left?
Better safe than sorry!
I agree with the idea of having security cameras. Although to some people it may be looked at as invasion of privacy. But think about it, It's better to be safe than sorry right?
My name is pronounced Nahl-ber-ahk-oh-foo-hoo. Please forgive my spelling, I am still learning English. I am very perturbed with the fact that the government watch us. I rely on privacy. I still am new to this country and don't think watch is good. No private cameras. Make me scared.
The only reason that I agree with the camera is because the fact it help us find the crooks, If wasn't for that I would say no to the camera because they invade privacy.
I think we should have cameras because they help us find criminals that have done bad things
I think that they should have camera's but not places private like restrooms or places people do not want to be watched.
if you want your privacy stay inside your house but public places are not meant to be private
They are good and bad, good because we are protected, bad because we may no have privacy.
I think we should have cameras,so we can caught crimals like in Boston .
I think that as long as they are using the cameras ONLY when they are necessary to be used. If they are used when there is no need it would be invading personal privacy of citizens.
The government should be able to check what everyone is doing out in public. It helps solve crimes, catch criminals, etc. It isn't like the government is placing video camera's in our houses or in the restrooms, they only use these cameras out in public. So yeah they should keep the camaras.
I think that its fine as long as they don't put camera in the bathrooms because that an invasion of are private and it keeps us safe so its ok as long as they don't go to over board.
I say yes to cameras because it protects other people and helps find crimals and ememies. It helps the U.S.
Having security cameras are needed because it isnt an invasion to privacy because your already in public anyway. Its not like they are filming your house its just the streets. I mean it really helped with the tragic Boston bombing so im all for it.
I think security cameras are important for tracking people if they do something illegal. For example, the two boston bombers got caught by the cameras and if we dont have cameras people will get away from everthing! So, yes keep the security cameras, they play a huge role.
I think that is invading are personal lives, i say that because i dint want someone watching me when im with my friends or anyone else. XD
I thank it is good to have cameras in publc places like citys and towns helps people sove misterys and it makes people fell just a little bit safer.
cameras are good
Security cameras play a big part in society and also in our everyday lives. For example without security cameras we wouldn't have known who the boston bombers were, and with out them more lives could have been lost. Security cameras help stores and buildings keep track of thier suroundings and the peoples safety. So, I do think the security cameras should stay because it helps people in their everyday lives.
I think the security cameras help the police protect our socitey and why does it matter if the police see what we are doing it's not like it's hurting us.
Like the others said better be safe than sorry. I mean shure you give up privacy but your still safe no matter what the cost is. I'll take it any day too be safe.
I think cameras are needed so we can catch criminals.
I really do not see the big deal in all of this. It is not like we are hiding anything and if you are you are in public the cameras are meant to find suspicious behavior and law breaking acts. I think that all the cameras that are out there are fine as long as they are not in private areas or in houses. The cameras that are around are just fine as they are and they protect us from the wierd-os's that are out their trying to hurt innocent people.
I think that we should keep the cameras. Because if something were to happen, like the bombing they can narrow it down to the suspect(s) that did it. I feel like keeping the cameras would be a good idea.
I think we should have cameras in public places. We don't know what could happen on just "any regular day." Nobody saw the Boston bombing coming, but we were able to find the bombers because of the security cameras in the area. I would rather be safe than sorry and have the cameras in public places.
I beleive that security cameras are perfectly fine where they stand, if people dont like them then dont go outside in public where the rest of society has no problem with them. Also why would people have a problem with them if they werent getting into any misteif?
If we didnt have the security cameras then it would be alot harder to find suspects. Using the security cameras help out with the recent Boston massacre. It is not an invasion of privacy!
I think the police should be able to see our footage on security cameras so they can catch people like robers. We have lived with cameras for a while why is it a problem now?
I think cameras are good idea, because they keep the public safe. If it weren't for security cameras they might not of cuaght the victoms of the Boston Bombing. The way the figured out who did it was by using security cameras from the area. Security cameras also keep you safe because there could have been a lot more people could have been killed because they could have placed explosisves in other areas as well if there had not been security cameras in the area to catch who was responsible for the bombing. Security cameras are could because they also can catch shop lifters or someone doing something illegal. If you think its an invasion of your privacy stay inside your house and never come out. You make the choose to go into an area with security cameras. SECURITY CAMERAS ARE NOT AN INVASION OF PRIVACY!!!!!!!!!
i recomend that our main reson that we all think people need the su=ercurity cameras is all based on the BOSTON BOMBING. but people need to also see that people recording the race helpped too so its not just security cameras that protect us and such. we all think its best for safety but being private is probably better on society so we all keep calm. and people watching us all the time is sorta creepy , and makes me scared on the inside
Cameras and such things are a great idea, especially after what happened in Boston. Maybe less cameras wouldn't hurt, but I would definitely keep them for situations like Boston.
I think that there should be security cameras but not in some places. It definitely helps find people that they need to find but there needs to be a limit on where you can put them.
I would like having camera in most places and your house at least doesn't have cameras their so if you want privacy you already have enough.
I think it is a good idea but to a certain limit, as long as they don't go to much in to my privacy.
I think security cameras are a great idea because with out them they wouldn't have had a big chance of catching the 2 guys I think it's a good idea but not in restrooms or personal places.
I think there should be cameras along the streets,in schools,in malls, and general stores cause if another terrorist attacks or there's something the police need to know they could just ask to see the surveillance.
Without these cameras they would not find criminals like in Boston.
I think it's good to have the cameras for safety, because if we didn't have them we might have not found the victims of the Boston Bombing, but it would be good if they weren't in such personal places.
Yes if there is another life tragedy we can get a video of them and track them down.
In my opinion I think it is great to have security cameras! But also I don't think they need to be everywhere ! They are necessary but not needed everywhere such as smaller towns or community's ! Ecspecialy towns where there is not many crimes!
It is very necessary to have these cameras if we did not have it we
could not identify the suspects in the crime
I rather be safe than not safe but there is too many camera's. They need to take down some camera's in a little bit more private places. They help us find bad people but they are everywhere.
I think it is kinda creepy about the cameras in the bathrooms cameras don't need to be watching us 24/7 but then in a way they also keep us safe like if a stranger comes up to you and kidnaps you the security cameras will see that and the police will come and help.
I think it's a good idea on streets, parking lots, and at the cashiers desk in a store, but I don't think you need to have them everywhere. If you start to have them all over the place monitoring us 24/7 then I think that intrudes on our privacy, but not if it's just on roads and other places.
Yes cause I know there is a lot of security all around the world and cameras to help us keep our world safer.
I think it's a good idea because if there was no cameras there could be more violence.
I think that security cameras are okay, only if they don't completely invade our privacy. Some places are okay like Walmart or Target but some places are not okay like at a public bathroom or a day spa. My conclusion is that it is okay but there are some standards they have to meet.
I think that it is important to have cameras in bigger areas with more threats than to have cameras everywhere, even in a place with little people in it. Also, when you are walking around, it's like they're not there. there are weaknesses though, because hackers can hack into camera security computers.
I think that it is not a good thing to have so many video cameras because some people do not want to be watched all the time but it can help us find criminals so we can find people just kill people
I don't think that security cameras are an invasion of privacy at all, unless its in restrooms or near changing rooms but if there was another bombing attack we could at lease get a glimpse of the bomber.
As long as they are used for security and to keep us safe I'm alright with it.
I am totally for security cameras, you saw with the Boston bombings just how useful they were. I don't believe that the government should take control of private security cameras, but if the owners offer them up, that is great!
I think it is a great idea, because what if people robbed a bank and there isn't any security cameras? They wouldn't have as much evidence to figure out who did it. We shouldn't even have anything to hide. So this is one of the best things that has happened to us for safety reasons.
I think these cameras help keep us safe on the streets. As long as they aren't invading our privacy in our houses, I don't feel there is an issue. With this advancement in technology we can not only start catching criminals after the fact, but possibly see what is going on in area and stop a crime before it is ever even committed.
Having cameras in high traffic areas is a good thing. Cameras in high traffic areas help government officials catch criminals, such as the Boston criminals.
I believe there should only be certain area's cameras should be aloud. With all the cameras that around today, you barley get any privacy. I'm against it.
I think that its okay that there are cameras in public places and I think its okay that they use them to find criminals. I think that its a smart idea and that even though its invading our privacy that its okay because they are helping us and trying keeping us safe.
I think that having cameras around would definitely be beneficial. I think it would help dealing with crime. As long as they aren't in my home, restrooms, or anywhere personal, I would be completely open to having cameras all around me. Safety comes first!
I think that cameras can be used for both security and safety, but the cameras have to be in places that are not invading privacy. Place where camera should be place are restrooms and homes. Cameras though should only be used for security reasons only.
I think that the cameras are a good idea sometimes i understand why we need them but other times i can see how they are overused by our government they don't always need to keep there eye on us.
cameras are useful for surveillance but there is a limit to what they should be able to do, they are built to protect us not spy on us. no one on the planet has the right to another person's privacy.
I think that security cameras are a good thing. They help keep us safe and help catch people like the ones who planted to bombs in Boston. As long as they keep the cameras out of personal spaces I think it's fine to have them.
i don't really feel comfortable with cameras video taping everything i do. so I think we need to find a way to make things more private.
Obviously i think that the cameras are OK. It help find the bombers so what if something happened like that and we didn't have any cameras? That's right we wouldn't of been able to find the bombers. Security cameras are just the best choice right now. Now that we are having all these bombing attacks its best to know who did what and when they did it. Security cameras will help to find all the evidence if anything like that ever happens again.
You're already in public, and people can see you. So what if there's a security camera there? Its for security. Not to spy on regular everyday people. So unless you're going to do something unlawful or wrong, you have nothing to worry about. Public safety is the top priority.
I think that the cameras are a good thing to have and i understand why we have them. They are very helpful in the world
I think that security cameras are good to have because they keep us safe, and you should have nothing to hide when you are at the mall or getting something to eat.
Cameras are definitely a good thing. As long as they keep them out of personal places, I think it's fine.
I think the government is using the camera's to spy on us because they wanna see what where doing, and thats just wrong.
I don't think the cameras are invading our personal space. The people watching over the camera don't care who you are unless you're harming someone or something. It's good they have cameras everywhere, how else would they solve crimes like the Boston bombing?
I can see why people are saying this. I think that security camera's might be going to far, but in another sense, it helps regulate things going on around us.
Security cameras should not be all over the streets. They cost too much, hurting the taxpayers. Crimes have been solved in the past without cameras, so we can survive without them still.
I think the cameras are interrupting our privacy but at least they are protecting us from terrorists attacks like the Boston bombing.
i agree and disagree they should be watching for crime but not just to watch the people
I think that cameras should be used, but the places that have them should let the people know that they are under surveillance.
I think that security cameras are and are not a violation of privacy. They are needed for privacy concerns and in the Boston terror attack, to catch a suspect. In daily life I don't think that we need them, because innocent people don't need to watched 24/7.
It's a matter of public safety, how would you feel if there weren't any cameras how would you feel about the Boston Marathon suspects not being caught?
I think they should have cameras but not in personal places.
Camera's on sidewalks aren't personal. Your not gonna be seeing someone changing on the sidewalk.
Therese really nothing wrong with it because without thous cameras we wouldn't know the people how bombed Boston ,and at least there's no cameras in your house . Pulse you shouldn't do anything wrong in front of the camera anyway .
They should have cameras everywhere but personal places.
i think it is wrong and right at the same time.
I think that they should have cameras but in like high expensive stores and in some other random places like cafe umbrellas and corners some place that criminals would go thinking no one could here or see them to talk about the secret plan
Yes, i do think that the security cameras do keep us safer, but there is a difference between security purposes and violation of privacy. Even if you are not doing anything illegal, that doesn't mean that there aren't people behind the monitors watching what you purchase, or do.
I think that having security cameras everywhere will keep everybody safe. For example, people getting bullied, hurt, pucnhed, kicked, shoved, hit by transportations. So I think having security cameras around will be helpful.
People kind of lose their right to some forms of privacy when they enter public view. Privacy needs to be regulated but not invaded when you step into a congested area. Cameras taking video evidence of people, which cannot invade their personal space, is a completely acceptable trade off for a lot of safety.
I believe that security camera are more than necessary, for matters of public safety. People nowadays post everything about them online anyway, from their phone numbers to what they're eating for lunch. I doubt it will matter if responsible authorities know if you were standing on a street corner when a crime occurred.
i think that they should have cameras but not on peoples bissnes. They shouldn't have them in the restroom or fiting rooms.
I think that cameras are needed greatly. They catch bad people like the bombers. They keep people safe. Without cameras the us would just pe in total kaos.
i think that is a good idea becuase like the in the bombs in the boston they ditected who did it.
yes and no, it depends on where the cameras are. In schools its ok, in the halls and in stores, but in other places like bathrooms and dressing rooms it's just wrong.
They are NOT going to put cameras in personal places like bathrooms and dressing rooms.THAT would be a violation of privacy.
i think they should have cameras becuase u could act like you went in to change and put it somewhere and still it all.
yes, there should be cameras every where we can all just mind our buisness
What about privacy?
Security cameras are not an invasion of privacy, because they are placed in public places. Cameras are used as a safety precaution and efficiently allow police to apprehend suspects. As long as you are not committing a crime, then you should have nothing to be worried about.
I rather have protection then privacy. After all it helped catch a suspect that injured and killed many people. If you want privacy go to mars.
I think they should keep security cameras because if someone was to kill you and there wasn't a witness, there would be know way to figure out who killed you.I think if your one of the people who want privacy and dont want cameras than you should just go on the trip to Mars.
I think that we should have some cameras, but not every where you look like in schools they aren't needed.
i think that it is a good idea because you dont no when some one going to hurt you
I think they should have cameras but not in personal places. You dont need cameras for everything and you dont need them everywhere. Its just wasteing money just for extra camras. I rather have protection than someone recording my life. Plus if you want privacy go to mars!
They should have security cameras in every personal place you can think of like bathrooms, hotel rooms, and inside your tv and computers.
There right it does keep us safer and invades are privacy. But safer is better.
I think they should have cameras in wide open places but not in very closed places.
we think that they r good because we never found the two suspects.
I think cameras are a good thing because if a rober comes and theres no camaras then no one will know who did it and maybe he'll keep doing it because they know that theres no camaras thats why i like camaras.
Its good that they got the guys that blew up the marathon but they shouldnt have cameras in private places
we think it is good to have secerity .
Yes as loge is it is not in the bath room
We think that you should have cameras in wherever you go but not in bathrooms or other personal places because we all need some privacy but we also need saftey! 🙂
I think that there should be cameras and protection but not in private and personal places like they should have some in alleys, main streets, and restraunts. If you want to have privacy then go to your house and have privacy! So the people that don't want to get killed then say that you want protection and not complain that you don't have any privacy! The U.S.A tries to protect this country!
I agree that security cameras invade our privacy, but I'd rather have cameras watching us to make sure we are safe and not in areas that we want to do private stuff. I hope they keep security cameras, but take them out of private places and put them in places that lots of people go to. It will be good for our privacy and we will know we will be safe at the same time.
🙂
i think that its ok too have cameras in public but not in my house, i dont want to be robbed well no one wants to be roobed but i just want pivacy cameras are ok in the living room, kichen and the yards but not in the bedroom or the bathroom
i think it would be better with safety first at buses and all
I don't think that security,or cameras are bad. they help us stay safe. they also can help us find out who did the Boston bombing.:):):):)
I beieve that there should be security cameras every that is public. They are useful for things such as the bombing. It is much easier to catch a suspect with cameras. Would you rather have the police all around your town or for there just to be cameras. Saying you want privacy in public is just an excuse so you dont get caught by a camera.
We think that security cameras should still be used, but they should not be placed every square foot. 🙂 🙁
Privacy is very important to many people. Even when their in the bathroom doing their buisness. But it is good that the police got the 2 but it is sad that they blew up the marathon. They should be forced to go to jail for what they have done to us.
Yeah, but the older one is dead and I'm pretty sure the other one is going 2 prison for the rest of his life because if his actions!
The guy that is still alive is probably already going to face the death penalty.
Of course the remaining brother is going to jail. I don't think/hope the police wouldn't let them just go back into the world.
It would be fine to me but sometimes we need privacy it would be embarrassing for someone to watch you when you are on a date or something.
I think that the privacy of the public is important, but if it helps to find criminals then I'm all about it.
They are good to keep you safe
It would be fine but you need privacy
I think the cameras are a good idea, so that we may be safe from the horrible people in the world.
I think it is a good idea like if something goes wrong, but I would also invade the privacy of people, and some people maybe wouldn't liked to be watched by people they don't even know.
Well, I can definitely see having cameras, but I wouldn't like the fact that pretty much every
where I go officers/ the FBI would be able to see where I am and what I'm doing.
I am with both sides of the debate, the cameras can be good for getting a shot of a suspects face to warn people and tell them what he or she looks like. On the other hand it think its a bit creepy knowing I'm being watched as I walk down the sidewalk to go to the mall or just walking my dog.
Hear Hear! Cameras should be aimed in public places only, but does that count for the street? How about a backyard? Would a neighborhood count? How far do you think the cameras should go?
I think it is alright to have security cameras because if somebody robbed something then they have a better chance of catching them if you have security cameras.
Security is better because the land that you are on is not yours, so why should you have full privacy on it? It is far more important to make the lives of the citizens safe and without any possible dangers than to have privacy.
People should only have security cameras for business's to keep their store safe from robbery.outside of of that is a whole lot different because people want to have their privacy knowing that someone isn't watching them when they are out in public.I would only recommend it for major events.
I don't think that security cameras invade privacy. It is also better to have the cameras, because if somebody breaks the law then we can bring them to justice. And we will have one less criminal in our towns.
Privacy is important to me because I don't want someone watching me when I go in the store or something but I also think that it is good to have security cameras to catch robbers stealing something from stores and using bombs at marathons like they did in the Boston marathon.
I think that security cameras are good, but sometimes can be too much. Because, when you are just with family or with friends you opulent need someone watching you through a video camera 24/7. Then again, the cameras were very helpful when police were trying to figure out the suspects who were responsible for the bombs at the Boston Marathon.
I think that if a business wants security cameras they can have them so they can help the police to catch a terrorist or possible suspect or even help find where people were last in case you lost your kid or something important.
To me it is kind of both. I think that it lets people see things that are very private to you, but on the other hand it shows who did the bombing and things that are important for officers or government to see.
I think that it is ok because if there's a serious problem or someone is breaking the law they can see what happens. So I don't think it is not bad to have security cameras.
People deserve to have privacy but it is good to have cameras like in the Boston terror bombings it really helped to find the two men that did this. After all you know what they say "better safe than sorry".
I understand why we should have cameras around but, yet again, if there was something you are doing that you want to be exposed then it would a horrible to be seen doing something weird. They would feel uncomfortable, but it would be safer to have them around that way no one thinks about about doing something bad.
I think there should be security cameras in the cities with violence and other bad things happening but in the other cities with nothing bad happening I don't think it is necessary.
I agree with what Leila had to say. Dont put cameras on streets that have nothing happening. Put them where cops or other officials sense suspicious activity.
If people are afraid not having privacy than they are most likely up to something, but if someone is not up to something and they don't like cameras then if another bomber comes and they get hurt (with no cameras) then it is their fault.
Security cameras are good to have in case of terrorist attacks, and robberies, and crime scenes and things like that. But when there everywhere, and its almost like your being spied on, that is a little too much, and I think most people would agree.
Everyone deserves privacy but when safety is involved privacy is out of the question.
Surveillance may make people safer, and it is very common now. However, people should know if there every move is recorded.
As long as the cameras are kept on high security (so no people who are not trusted can see them) and are never aimed at a private area like my house, it's okay with me. The cameras could save a life some day 🙂
i'm more for the private side because i would go nutso if i were under constant survailance. and where i live it is totally unneccesary to be putting security cameras in every little nook and cranny you can find in a whole city, plus it would take for ever.
People deserve there privacy but if someone does something wrong they can see who it was!
It is an invasion but it is a security need.
I think that it is helping catch criminals but I feel like I have a hundred eyes watching me
I think it is a good idea because if you don't want to die it is a good idea if you want to die it is a bad idea.
It is a good thing we have cameras because all of the crimes that go on,We would have no identity of the bombing suspects.
I think it's fine the way it is they might intrude a little but without them we might not of caught the terrorist from the Boston attack
I think it is good to have them cause they will help catch people who do bad things and it isn't and invasion cause if your doing it where the cameras will see you you will be in public for everyone to see anyway.
Security cameras are a good thing because they help us figure out the crimes that happen. Without the cameras they wouldn't have found out who did the Boston bombing.
I think that we should have privacy. I don't want to go to the store and have to worry about people staring at me. That's like me walking around and someone staring at my every move. It's the same thing but they aren't physically around me.
I think it is just fine because the people who are monitoring it won't even be focused on any individual because the cameras will just be used to catch bad guys.
I think that they are fine. They keep us safe form bad people. And if I were Boston I would not complain if they didn't have those cameras then that bombers would still be out there.
I think they should have cameras but they should really have some in alleyway and in apartment and hotel room.
I Think Security Cameras should be allowed at everywhere.
It's a part of life we have to live with to assure some kind of safety
I think that the cameras is good because they can catch the bad people.
I think we should have privacy but they can find suspects like in Boston
I think that the cameras watching us all the time is invading our privacy but at the same time it is very useful to times such as one that happened in Boston.
If it is in bigger cities with a lot of violence, they should have them. But if it's in a smaller town it will not be used.
Yes and no. I believe that they may be a little to many cameras but, it is for our safety. I mean they do invade our privacy but there a good thing as well. I do think there should be less surveillance
I think it's a good thing to have all these things, but also it's helpful for many places. It depends where its located and who its sees.
I think that cameras arent a violation of privacy. Because its not like you are going to see someone running around naked or something.
security cameras should be hidden better so people don't find them or spot them thinking someone is watching them.
I think they are a good thing because otherwise they would not have known who the two Boston marathon suspects as fast. But once you leave your house your in public. And it's not a problem in small times like the town I live in
I think that at big events like the Boston Marathon and things like that its ok to have it, but otherwise not so much.
Truly, security cameras that view sidewalks, streets, or parking lots are an invasion on our privacy. However, in malls and similar places I think that they are okay. To have YOU in the records of walking along a street is not right, and even its few uses are overweighted with negative things. Just imagine how embarassed people caught in the security footage of the Boston bombers are.
If we didn't have these cameras we may not of found the Boston Bombers, and people would still be at risk. But if the people behind the monitor watching us are doing it for their personal reasons or posting videos of something embarrassing on YouTube then it wouldn't be ok.
The rapid identification and tracking of the Boston bombing suspects has made many Americans contemplate the benefits of a world where everything and everyone is watched and recorded, but it has also raised some questions about privacy.I agree without the surveillance cameras we my have had a harder time catch the terrorists. So it may come in handy in the future
I think that security cameras are not invading my personal privacy it is good to have them like the Boston Massachusetts
We found out who was the one who planted the bomb.
I think that it is ok. If we didn't have cameras I think there would be more drama.
I would pick security over privacy.i would rather feel safe on the streets but have my every move watched than have no cameras on the streets and not get watched.
As long as the cameras are only used when terrorist acts have been committed, it is important to have them there watching out for us.
i think that it is okay. As long as they arent in peoples property. in public places it should be allowed dont do anything wrong if you are concerned about the cameras being public.
I honestly don't like being recorded at all i am a very enclosed person. I think that everyone has their opinion and you have to respect that but in all reality just because you don't like being recorded does not mean that they are going to stop having video cameras.
i think thats a good idea cuz what happen in boston . i like idea because people dont know
Whats going to happen around them. i think its a good idea.
i thimk they shouldnt . they need there privuce and they dont need people seeing there stuff. there are nasty people out there and they might be trying to spy on people
I disigree with cameras every where becuase it is indeed a invasion of privacy. What if a security camera was positioned at some one's house and caught them doing meschevious acts in the privacy of their own home. That would indeed be wrong.
To be honest Carl, I really don't care about the security cameras everywhere. A lot of lawenforcement invades our privacy anyway. I think we should just deal with it and stop whinning about it. NO ONE CARES!!!!
I think it would invade peoples privacy but I also think that they can see more crimes happening then they do now.
i think that having cameras are awesome cause they can help find things like shootings or robberys. thanks please post on tomarrows show
sincerly benito
ithink that it is nun of the goverments buisnus what we do. i also think it is inapporiat to have caniras in bathrooms.
I think it's a good idea to have cameras watching us in stores and stuff. Also in cities where crime is high, but i think they shouldn't hack into stores cameras....that's kinda suspicious.
I think that it is a great idea to have security video to help protect people. If people are worried they have people watching them they are probably guilty for something. I feel more safe when there is someone out there ready to help me if something happens.
I think they should not ban security camera's just because of privacy I think if they have to show it on the news they can block out faces but if we ban security camera's people will get away and be free to listen to any conversation on Phones, Celluar devices etc, we don't need to take them down because of privacy.
i think the security cameras are great for towns/cities because without them we might not be safe. Take the Boston incident for example without those cameras we wouldn't have not figured out who had done it. Also if we didn't have them a lot of more bad things could happen to us without anyone really knowing.
I think it is a good thing on the streets because when somthing like this happens look how much faster they got the guys with all these cameras. However in private places there should not be cameras but out on the streets it should not be a problem.
I think it is a good idea for camera's on the street if it is a busy street were lots of crimes happen. Other places, not so much because it seems like they are invading personal space for some people.
What I think is that people should have privacy and should be watched at the same time like cameras should be still on but not that many cameras because people can have privacy at the same time like if people like privacy they can have privacy
well it is a good thing that they got the suspect and his brother because if they did not there could be more bombings and that would be terror. The united states does not need more bombings we have had a enough. They should put cameras every where.
I think that it is perfectly fine to have cameras on the streets and in public areas just not in private places, that is when it infringes on the rights of Americans
I think that the N.S.A,C.I.A,F.B.I,and the goverment should not be able to freely listen in to our phone conversations, texts, and other media. I do not believe that we should let go of our privacy for security. Whats next all of our hard earned rights. In this country we have NO privacy at all we are always being watched in our homes, in the streets, social hubs, and gathering areas. George.w.bush passed a executive order saying we are allowed to be monitored by the N.S.A. It goes againsted all our rights of freedom, and liberty we no longer can say something with out having it being listened to and stored in files and so forth. i have now expressed my feeling on how we no longer need privacy or freedom if it keeps us safe(but we dont need to hand out our freedom so they can supposedly keep us safe). There is no longer privacy or freedom in this country.
I honestly don't care, unless they put cameras in restrooms. That is a step too far.
I think that it is good to have security cameras because they help police but then I also think that they are an invasion of privacy.
If you have nothing to hide, why would it matter?
I have no problem with public security cameras. They are needed in order to help keep the public safer. It is an invasion of privacy only if it is recording in your home. As long as it is in public, it's fine.
I do not want to live in a Brave New World where my privacy is at risk for the sake of safety?
Either or, I don't really care.
I do not mind cameras because if there are cameras being used I feel like I would be safer.
I think security camera are really good to us . There are good for the interment.
I think they are good for safety.Without them we might get attacked way more often
I think it is alright to have security cameras because if somebody robbed something then they have a better chance of catching them if you have security cameras.
I think that it is good to have security cameras because if there is a situation like in Boston you can know who did it, or if your in a store and someone steals something you will know who took it. It wouldn't be good for places to not have security cameras to record all of those things.
i think security cameras are a good idea
I think privacy is important.
Although cameras in large cities create public safety, it destroys the privacy people want. Privacy is a something you should never be able to take away and yet that's what is happening people are taking away the privacy factor of life. IT IS NOT RIGHT!!! Public safety is huge but there has got to be another way keep the public safe!! I mean come on now really.
I think that cameras are a good idea. Without them, we would know who was in charge of the bombing in Boston. As long as them don't invade our privacy I think that are fine.
Security cameras should not be all over the streets. They cost too much, hurting the taxpayers. However, I do believe that certain businesses should be allowed to have cameras as long as they say that you are being watched. Other than that the rest should be private.
It depends...
I think there should be security cameras in the cities with violence and other bad things happening but in the other cities with nothing bad happening I don't think it is necessary.
It depends on how they place the security cameras. If they place them in private areas then i think its wrong, but if they place them in areas like streets and what not, its not a problem. The only other acceptions for security cameras is important places, like the white house.
I think there should be security cameras in the cities with violence and other bad things happening but in the other cities with nothing bad happening I don't think it is necessary. ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)
The private life should be private ,and cameras will just get misused . xoxoxoxox p.s. cnn student news rules
I think cameras are okay in schools and other places that need them for security, but not privately owned and not in places like locker rooms or changing rooms.
As much as i LOVE my privacy, i would rather be safe than sorry.
I agree. Safety first. Better safe than sorry.
Still, I think it's a bit creepy that someone knows all things I do and happening in my lives through security camera.
i think that security cameras take away peoples privacy and people should have their privacy without some one looking
at the street and you are doing something and who would look into you private space when you don`t want to. security cameras are not necessary.
Security cameras are a necessity in the world today. People say that we cannot start a world where cameras are everywhere and everyone is being watched, however, we have already created that world. To thoughs people I say, What do you have to hide? If you don't do anything bad why should it matter if a camera can see you?
I think that if you arent doing anything you arent supposed be doing, that you really shouldn`t have anything to worry about.......Besides picking your nose on the sidewalk which i mean come one!!!!
I think that they should be free to put cameras around cities except in private places like public restrooms and hotels. If you do something illegal in a city it's your fault.
i think we should have them for security in public places. but i think that tapping into networks should be illegal because of privacy. If the owners wanted the police to see, they would have given the network info.
I think it there should be security cameras in cities because there can be violence and bad things. But not unnecessary places.
I think that cameras should be public in public places, but people deserve privacy, and have the right to hold whatever footage that is theirs to themselves.
We have cameras in our school. It's kind of annoying but it keeps us safe.
I think cameras can be necessary and help solve and catch crimes, but when there in unnecessary areas theres no need.
I understand how people can feel invaded in privacy because they are always being recorded but because of recordings, we found out who did the Boston terror bombings.
I feel that we have our rights for a reason. I do not agree with giving up any of my rights for saftey. I am able to protect myself with my rights.
I don't see any problem with having security cameras. You are in the public anyways, so there shouldn't be an issue about someone watching you, because in public everyone is watching you. If you are worried about having some action of yours being recorded then chances are it's not something you should be doing in the first place. People make way too big of a deal about this. Look at the amazing things video footage has gotten us, I mean we just caught the two bombers that performed terrorist attacks on our country. I don't see anything wrong with secuity cameras if they allow us to make victories like these.
some cities need to be watched and protected let the police department do their jobs
Without security cameras on the streets, we would have never caught the suspects of the Boston bombing. They are absolutley needed in public, but never in the privacy of our own homes.
I think security cameras are good espescially if you need to catch say a criminal or in some cases you could even possibly stop a crime before it is even commited and if you want privacy you can go to your house.
Cameras can solve crimes and can be very important to the police department.
I dont think the police should be watching us 24/7, they should just record everyday, and if something like what happend in Boston happens again, they have the footage to pull up.
Privacy is one thing, but safety is another. Tell me this, would you rather be injured or be caught on a security camera. Cameras catch bad people, end of story.
I do think it is ok to have cameras to watch our every move because it is for our safety. on the other side having cameras is invading our privacy.
People like me like their privacy but we have to have security cameras to catch people that do bad stuff.
i do think that it is a invasion of privacy because i would not want to be on tape if something embarassing happened to me, but it is also really good because we found out who the boston suspects were so i would rather put up with something embarassing put o tape to catch bad guys so it is a good thing we have camras its for our safety.
cameras would be great in cities that have alot of crime but there is a line of privacy and invasion of privacy. the police realy look at them after a crime is reported.
i think dat we shoud hav camras. cuz wit all deez shootouts an bombins and things it woud keep us safe. imigine if ur 8 yr old son died in tha bombin, ud probly wanna do whaever u can to cach tha person who did it, an camras woud make dat possble
I think that it's a good thing we have lots of security cameras. If we did'nt then we might not have even found the Boston bombers yet. It might get a little annoying knowing that there are cameras almost everywhere, but they help with things like the bombing.
it is good to have camras, its for our safety
and for protection
I would not want people to watch me so why would others. It’s an invasion of privacy and as technology gets better cameras get better. I know this is a way to catch criminals but we still deserve our privacy.
I think there should be cameras in places such as a big city to make a difference in crime and protect citizens. After the bombings in Boston the police caught the guys in the same week because all of the security cameras that were around in the. That is why we should have security cameras.
I think that there should be less cameras so we can have more privacy. If we reduce the amount of cameras then more people might feel more comfortable about going out in public.
I believe that maybe you should get a little privacy in a public place, but really its not like someone is gonna look through the videos and see what YOU are doing? The only person looking at the videos are the government or the owners of the place and also they are looking for criminals not ordanary people doing what ever they want. Personally its not a big problem to me because I know im not doing anything thats illegal. Privacy is important but what if you really need the information to find someone who theatened you city or state wouldnt you want to know that you are safe at home not in danger? I believe that it is a good idea to look at the footage of public places ONLY when there is something Important to find out not just for the entertainment. 🙂
I think any one who is uncomfortable having cameras in a public place is doing something their not suppose to. Cameras are ment to protect you and the people monitoring the cameras probably don't know you any way so why would they care.
When your in stores there should be cameras but when your not, like a street there shouldn't be because what happens if you do something that makes you feel uncomfortable
If you're not doing anything wrong, then why should you be afraid of being caught on camera. The cameras should only pose a threat to wrong-doers; if you're doing what you know is right, then you should feel no fear of being videotaped. Maybe even the suspicion that there might be cameras will cause criminals to think twice before committing crimes.
If it will help protect society I think it’s a must... but if it’s going to be in someone’s yard or property I think that would violate their privacy (unless they say it’s ok). I wouldn’t want someone monitoring my every move but if it will save lives then we should learn to deal with it.
Having cameras in public is important. Without them they would have never caught the Boston bombers or more importantly even known what they looked like. You’re already in the public and there is no doubt someone heard you or saw you so, is it really invading your privacy when you intentionally are putting yourself in a position where others already are?
i think security cameras are very important. if we didn't have them we wouldn't have caught the boston bombers. i also think that they do kinda violate our rights but i would rather be safe than have my privacy walking down a city street.
I believe that security footage should be every where. If it is someones private business, they should use them to catch any would be thieves in the act. Public streets are public, there is no getting around that, if you personally do not like being recorded, go to your local city council and bring the issue up. If not, well smile, because you just may be on camera.
As a foot note, if you know there are cameras, (and the local government should notify the public of any new installations) and you have to stop and ask your self if something is legal, it probably isn't and if you try it, it will be on said cameras. And so it acts as a moral barrier.
Is it the same the right to privacy as the right to anonymity? I think some of the claims above ask for the right to anonymity. In a small town or a trditional neighbourhood everybody knows everybody else; i's a bit stifling but it's safe. New means of communication make us think that privacy implies acting without responsibility to others only to ourselves and that's a mistake.
I don't have too much to say on this, but I think security cameras are not a bad thing, this is almost proven when they caught the criminals in the Boston attacks. Nevertheless, with every move you make when outside meticulously contemplated? That is a little overkill, and quite a disruption or personal privacy. It sort of brings up the issue of drones, technology to catch criminals is a good thing but there is a point when it becomes a bit much.
I think that since we are out in public that people will see us anyways. Having pictures or videos being taken for security only makes me feel more secure. Hints the name "security camera".
I think this is ok . Things like this should not matter that much if it is for your safety.
#teamprivacy
#teamprivacy
I think security cameras are good becuase they help to catch criminals and save lives the best we can. Also if you want privacy your not going to get it in a public place anyway.
I think people are over reacting. It can save lives if you are worrying about privacy get a house. It is a public area not your own private place!!!!!!!!!!!
I believe that these camera's are necesary to help us in criminal activities such as the Boston Bombing. Honestly is it worth lives to keep something private? Also only people such as the police will look at them.
I belive that we should get a little privacy but they are needed in crowed areas like New York and other touriests attractions and they should only look at the footage if there is a big problem in that area
I think having cameras does help with finding crimal and will do a lot for our safety. if we didnt have the technology we do now we wouldnt have found out a lot of mysteries or find out about the boston bombing. Although some people say it may invade there privacy, they should be doing stuff in public they would be fine with if somebody got it on video.
I think people should have their privacy unless their is a crime.
Securiy cameras should be put around the streets. They help police find suspects that may have done a serious crime. I don't want dangerous people walking around the streets any longer than they have too. With having security cameras, police can get the dangerous people off the streets much faster.
Cameras should not be set up in public areas. This system would only punish good citizens. If a person is on a suspect list than he could be watched by police officers. If it is nessacary to have cameras on every corner to let officials see every aspect of your life, then all tapes should be open to the publics veiwing. In addition this is just a way to force people to be self incriminating. This is cleary an unreasanable invasion of privacy and a way to punish people that commited no crimes.
I think that we should keep the cameras. If it helps us catch killers then we should keep them. Maybe it could help people solve other unsolved crimes. So no I do not think it is a privacy issue.
They should have cameras because how will we be safe. Without this how will catch the suspects. It is for the public safty so why would you not want them.
I think security camers are okay in public. They help solve cases like the one in Boston.
I think that we should keep the camera's because as we saw during the Boston Marathon the camera's help us identify the suspects. Yes, they invade privacy but they are there to protect us from more terrorists attacks.
I wouldn't mind have a security camera watching me. Yes, if it is a invasion of privacy, but if its keeps me safe from criminals then I'm ok with it
I believe cameras should not be put up everywhere unless its a crime filled place or in stores
Depends where you put the camera's like on the streets or other public places where a lot of people go to. But also there is those times when the camera's captures a picture of someone doing something weird and puts it on the internet where lots of people can see. But i think there should be camera just in case of crimes
Their should be security cameras, even though its good to have your privacy but is it really privacy when your out their in the open.
Security cameras in puplic is a little bit to "protective" we should feel safe enough where we dont need them. But, icidents like the Boston Marathoon was an exaple of why we should have them.
I think we need cameras in order to make the streets all across america safer. Without cameras we would have not found the boys from the Boston bombing. If you want privacy, GO HOME!
I believe that in larger cities there should be more cameras around because those cities are most likely to get terrorized. In the the smaller cities i believe that people should have their privacy. If you looked through history, all the big terrorist attacks have been in the large cities.
I believe that there should be cameras throughout the world because many things relating to terrorism has been happening more recently. Without the cameras in the Boston act it would have made it much more difficult to find the two guys who did the bombing
I think it's good to have cameras on the streets so we can try and catch everything on camera to review it if something happens. It helps alot, but theres also the point to where is the limit of cameras on the streets?
By allowing cameras, we are putting a lot of faith in individuals doing the right thing when handling the information. Corruption and misuse of data could have chilling consequences on constitutional rights and privacy.
I believe that certain areas do need security cameras because it is important to be aware of your surroundings and anything could happen, but at the same time you don't want security cameras in you personal business.
i don't believe we should be recorded just walking down the street. I believe this is wrong.
What if there was a criminal right behind you when you were walking down the street? You never know who's near you and that's what security cameras are for.
I think the cameras are perfectly fine. It's not like the cameras are in our very own houses, and they can find criminals like the guy in Boston. The people saying that it violates privacy are not looking at the actual facts. If you don't want the cameras to see what you do you probably shouldn't even be doing it.
I totally agree with you ,Edna, but I kind of would mind if somebody saw me trip or embarrass myself
I think security cameras are a necessary element to our security, I mean its not like the cops are watching us for fun, and we might be recorded just walking but other bad guys are being recorded doing bad things that can then be used to put them in jail.and if you have personal business then go inside, there aren't security cameras everywhere, just in places where they could help. Even if it is a little strange knowing people can see you, you just have to know that the people who can are only there to protect YOU.
I don't mind people looking into my stuff, into my privacy. For some reason they have all of those cameras around places we don't expect, that reason is our own security and more than that our country's security. If there is people concerned about their privacy being violated, i think they're wasting their thoughts in something that is needed by me, by the other hand of this debate that is supporting this acts and obviously by them. Let's be realistic and not just think stupidly, let's think wisely.
Cameras are a necessary part of our society. With out them it would take much longer to solve cases, and find suspects. I wouldn't care if there was a thousand cameras on my street, just some more eyes watching my neighborhood. The only way it would violate my privacy is if they were everywhere in my house.
The definition of public is the open, therefore, areas like this shouldn't have a problem with carrying cameras along.
I think that security cameras are good, but too many can feel overwhelming. Cameras should be put in public places like parks or indoor shops and restaurants. If anything bad happens anywhere else, the victim or a bystnder should inform the authorities immidiately.
I believe cameras should not be used in every public place, and not used at all in private areas. What i do with my time is my business.
For me, security camersa are okay. We civilians do need protection and a major way to do it is to install security cameras instead of believing what people's saying about accidents.
I believe having all of this is becoming natural for us. We know where it is and when it is happening so we don't fight it. We let the overly done security become part of our lives and we don't fight it to much. Assuming its there we go on with our daily lives, I think we should be able to live freely and safely without having our personal lives constantly watched.
I think the camera's are good because of what happend in boston but there is a difference between privacy and protecion
i think cameras are just for our safety
i think cameras are just for our safety. if someone got hurt you can just look back at the foot-edge
I think it is just fine to use cameras. It makes me feel safer, plus it help catches criminals.
i agree with you just think of how unsafe our lives will be if we didn't have cameras our crime rate will be up and no one will be safe anymore people wouldn't go outside i wouldn't go outside it will be hell outside so thank god for the person who invited cameras.
I think cameras are perfectly fine to have everywhere except the bathroom. The cameras helped to identify the boston bomber so they are very useful to us. It won't violate privacy because they are not in bathrooms and in houses. In my opinion they are perfectly okay!
I think that secrity camreas can help us. Picture this somebody stealing something from a car, store, a persons hand, or someones shopping cart. Cameras help our country alot because it can tell what somebody is doing.
I think that secrity camreas help us alot because they can see what a person is doing like stealing something from somebody's car or wallet. Some people can be very curious about some stuff that are in stores, cars, shopping carts, wallets.
i think we should have cameras in stores and in places where crime is very common but just being watched all the time is just scary
Agreed, but in this time and day, people are getting into ordinary schools, with weapons that kill other people. Its sad that we cannot trust our own race!
🙂
I think security cameras keep us safe. If there were no cameras the people would get away with doing bad things.
I think that security cameras are there to protect us... not invade our privacy.
P.S. Hey Carl!!!!
I feel that we should have security cameras in stores, and places where people would most likely do crime. Also, I feel that cameras on the road would be good to see those people who are speeding, and to catch the people who might be up to bombing a town. This is all to help keep people and children safe.
If there were no security cameras everyone would do what they want when they want. But with security cameras nobody can. I wouldn't say they are in invasion of privacy they are just keeping us safe.
I think that in certain area's it is critical to have security. I watched a movie about a guy that went back in time for eight minuets to stop a train bombing. The bomb was hidden inside an air vent. Nobody knew because there where no cameras aboard the train. In this case I stand with the cameras, not against. Especially when there are crazy people with crazy ideas out there.
I think security cameras are needed. However,if the watchers abused them, they could become tools of crime.
So the most important thing is that the cameras are used for the safety of the public.
The camera's aren't in your house, if they we're in your house then it would be a invasion of privacy. That's not the case though, you are walking in a downtown area with a large population. It is hard to keep everyone safe at one time, the cameras help the officials to keep a better watch on us.
The only way security cameras are in invasion of privacy is if they're in homes, or anywhere you need privacy. On the streets and anywhere public isn't private. The cameras only keeping the citizens safe and sound.
I think that this is not an invasion of privacy. It helps people aware of their surrondings and i think everyone deserves justice in their own way.
We should have security cameras, but at a certain extent. Security cameras do keep us safe in a way, and they do help us in certain situations. Say that someone takes a ladies purse and gets away. Well security cameras are able to help you find out who took this ladies purse (remember this is an example). When I mean by certain extent I mean by the fact that security cameras should not be in a person's home. So just keep in mind that having security cameras is a way of being safe, but also security cameras do not need to be in homes.
I believe that the security camaras are a need because it helps the police solve the crimes faster. Even though it invaids your privacy, you get over that becuase say it was someone you love missing, then you will be thankful for them . Even though you think the cameras everywhere like in the park isn't needed, but say a child were to get kidnapped then the cameras will be helpful. So even though you think it's an invation of privacy it is also a help to crimes and it helps increase the safety of us
Having cameras on the street is completely necessary. The reason why is because if a crime is going on the cops are most likely to catch the person if they have cameras up.
I think it is ok to put lots of cameras. But it depends on if its in or in front of someones house. people need privicy.
i say we should keep the cameras just so it can help find and know if somebody is doing wrong and that the police can know whose doing what and when there doing it
I think we should have cameras in public places because, it helps solve crime that would be cold cases other wise. It gives people proof to back up something that you couldn't prove if they were not there. When people rob places they probably would not get caught because their is not hard evidence to back it up.
Camera usage should be controlled, some people believe the idea of camera usage in public should cease, the cameras help us to catch criminals. Not having cameras to protect us will increase crime rate, therefore we should keep the cameras.
I feel that having security cameras are both an invasion of privacy and necessary. Without security cameras, everyone would be able to do whatever they want. But with security cameras, no one can do whatever they want and get away "scot-free". Although many people will be put into high alert and false security, and it will be put to the point where no one can be able to go anywhere without having the feeling of being stalked. So I have mixed feelings about security cameras.
Of course we need security to enjoy life because privacy is an issue and criminals are out for themselves not anything else
I agree with having the cameras in public areas. they shouldn't be inside people's houses because that would be pushing a little bit to far. Cameras are for the safety of the people.
I feel it is not an invasion of privacy if it helps keep us safe. If something bad happened, then we would not be able to know who did it. Better be safe than sorry.
I think it's okay to have security cameras, because they are keeping us safe.
It really depends on where the locations of the cameras are. In some places, it invades privacy. However, it can help us catch criminals.
I think it's okay to have security cameras, because they are keeping us safe.During the bomb blasting nobody knew who did it, so cameras would let us know who did the problem.
I would rather have camera around because if somebody kidnapped me they can know what street they kiddnapped me and what their face look who kidnapped me
Take a minute to think about this. If there wasn't a camera on that sidewalk in Boston...we would still be searching for our suspects. So yes we do need cameras. If you don't want someone to see you do something wrong, don't do it.
