Shutting Down during Takeoff and Landing

When I flew out to the Student Television Network convention a few weeks ago, I remember the flight attendants telling us to turn off all electronics during takeoff and landing.  (We could turn 'em back on when we'd reached 10,000 feet.)  Most airlines have this rule, but the FAA is considering whether it's needed.

On Thursday, you'll hear some arguments for keeping the rule in place - and some for getting rid of it.  Where do you stand?
