State of the Union Expectations
The president is scheduled to give his annual State of the Union message on Tuesday night, and we're planning to bring you highlights of both that speech and the Republican response. But before the politicians have their say, we'd like you to have yours: What subjects would you like to hear addressed on Tuesday?

I would like to hear President Obama finally make gun rules more strict, we dont need more murders or shootings happening anymore.
What did Mussolini, Hitler, and Stalin all have in common? Their people did not have the right to bear arms.

I would like to hear bullying being addressed. In my school, we have had a few lessons about it and I would like to hear what tje government has to say, especially because bullying leads to suicide and I would not wants to lose my best friend to something as common as bullying.
I agree bullying is an issue for everyone , infact I still get bullied now. I tell them to stop and tell teachers but it just wont stop.
I'd like for him to talk about reducing our national debt, improving our economy, creating jobs, and compromise within Congress. I think that these are the most important topics right now.

I hope President Obama will talk about gun violence. It's been pretty bad these days. Also, I hope he talks about the economy and how we are going to deal with the 16.5 trillion dollars that we owe. It's a lot of money and it's going to take years to cover the debt. Hopefully Barack Obama has a plan that we can do to cover the cost because we cannot dig a deeper hole where we are now.

Gun control is the dumbest plan for preventing shootings. The only thing that will stop shootings is to arm teacher so they can protect there school and students. The next thing the could do is instead of susspending the kid who stands up to the bully suspend the bully

I think that the first thing that should be talked about is gun violence and how they have and are going to deal with it. Then they really need to talk about the fiscal cliff and when it will be agreed on or at least the end date for it.

First off use a word other than strong to describe the union. Secondly it has been said that the president's religious beliefs are in the Christian faith, if that is so why does he support homosexuals so much. Christians are not suppose to hate them but they must know that its not right by the word of God. What are Obama's views on that?
That is a good point but along with that I want to know what we are going to do about North Korea, gun control, the debt ceiling, America's economy, immigration, and other issues. The best thing would be for Obama to address the immediate issues then the other issues that are ranked most to least important to the people of the United States.
Fighting terrorists and kepping america safe for one. Another isue I want to hear would probably be gun control.
I would like to hear about the issue of guns. So many people have taken advantage of what they are supposed to be used for. HUNTING. Not any other use, but, like I said, people take advantage. So, yeah, that is what I want to hear about.

All I want to hear is the truth. Our nation is in a pretty bad state and I hope the President says that, and not some wishy-washy fluff that says we are fine.
I think the President should try to end the war in Afghanistan. I hate war and it seems like the President and Congress aren't even trying to stop this stupid war.
Rome was NOT built in a day, war does NOT just declare itself, babies do NOT come from space so removing troops will NOT be simple. I am sure the president is doing the best he can with congress's help, he is only one man.

I would like them to address the gun laws. There's been a lot of talk lately, but they need to take some action.

I’d like if the president would talk directly about things that are affecting us on the outside world, such as if after school education will ever stop increasing, and if it will be more affordable for students to college. I would also like to know, along with many others if jobs will become more available and if the economy will ever turn around, so we never have to go through another recession.
I feel there are many main issues for the president to address in his upcoming speech. The issues of gun control and gun control laws need to be discussed. I would also like to see the president speak on what his plans are for the troops in the war. Talking about economic issues and where our economy is going to in the future is important. Nerveless the president has his hands full with many highly debated issues.
I would like to hear about how the economy is doing. Topics like how many jobs have been made in the past year and the debt of the nation. Has the unenployment rate gone up or down in the past year. I would also like to hear about the immagration laws and how they are being changed. I know there have been alot of talk about it and want ot hear about what they will change. I also want to hear about taxes and if he will raise them or lower them.

I've never watched a president speech before so Im not sure what I'm not sure what I want him to talk about but there is one major thing that affects most of us. That is fuel prices. I want him to talk about lowering the cost of fuel. That would be awesome to see the price go down. I mean he lowered it right around the election.
Well, I know that gun control will be something that we will hear in the State of The Union address, but I'd like to hear the president talk about what we can do about mental health system. The national debt is also another thing that should be covered, and how we can start eliminating it or reducing its size. Or maybe stop letting politicians get certain rights, or letting them break laws without penalties?

I think the President should talk about his plans regarding new gun laws. It is very contriversialy in my area and I dont really understand what he is planning on doing for it.

I would probably like to hear what everyone has to say about the shootings going on around the United States. Maybe even their thoughts on what to do about hurricane Sandy, how to help those who are in trouble, and those homeless. (Jehovah's Witnesses can't do it all. =) )
I feel that the biggest topic on tonights speech will be gun control. That has been by far the biggest topic on the news and everywhere. Im sure another big topic will be unemployment. That also is a really big topic and will always be. Im happy to hear about what he has to say about gun conrol, but not sure if i will like the outcome of it. I guess i will just have to deal with it.
Id assume he'll talk about gun control as he should. After so many school shootings, and threats about it. I also feel he should address the current economic state of the nation. Explain his future plans to improve our economy, and maybe a progress report of where we stand now.
I think they should talk about the eneployment. I think this is a big problem in the U.S. because a lot of people can not efford to go to collage because they don't have the money to. I think they should make collage a little chepper so more people can go and get a degree and get a good job.
I think he will address the topic of the Gun Control. Whether or not we will be able to keep them or there will be major restrictions. I personally don’t really think they are a necessity, but also I don’t think guns, should be taken away from hunters, enthusiasts, etc. Hopefully there is a logical outcome to this.
He should talk about how his health care plans are coming along. He's saying everyone should have health care, so where is mine? Something else most people are wondering about is the gun laws. Are you going to take them from us? Because as far as guns...guns dont kill people, people kill people. Guns don't point and shoot themselves. Some people shouldnt have them, plain and simple. You can't take them from everyone because some people don't know how to use them or aren't sane enough to have one.
The only problem with this is that the government has taken away our right to decide if we want insurance or health care. Nowadays we have to have it, and we can't afford to pay for it, or we don't, we get the "government's health care, which controls what doctors we see and whether or not we can be treated. My very own grandmother needed a new heart, but she had "government" health care. The government decided that since she would be dead in a few more years, they denied her the operation. My grandma died because the government decided to prevent her from having her surgery. Is this nation a republic or communist country? Because they have violated just about every individual right that our Constitution gives us.
He should speak on LGBT issues and their rights to be treated the same as heterosexual couple in regards to benefits and marriage.
I would like to hear about Global Warming and the efforts to promote earth friendly technologies and jobs.
Unfortuately, global warming is not even real. Like ghosts, aliens, banshees, goblins, vampires, zombies, and freedom of religion.
the issue I would like to hear about is how society has become very liberal dominated, and free speech is diminishing. I would also like President Obama to talk about the issues in the Middle East, particularly Iran's Islamic Republic and Israelis murdering Palestinians in the Arab-Israeli conflict
i would like him to talk about how guns aren't responsible for shootings but it is the people holding the gun that is responsible. we don't blame cars for drunk drivers, why blame guns for violent criminals?

I would hope someone says something about how our country needs POLITICAL DIVERSITY. We need more independents in the house and senate, rather than just republicans and democrats.

All around, the recent issues weve been having as a country should all be discussed. Immigration, the economy. But other than that i've noticed that gas prices are going up again and we need to discuss a way to stop that. Too, what about foreign trade? we rely mostly on other countries so whould it be such a bad idea to restrict trade so the u.s could expand and flourish a bit more?
I feel that the president needs to zoom out. He should stop focusing on things such as gun control and human rights and consider the big topics such as the overwhelming debt

I think the President should focus more on poverty because there are many people who do not eat everyday and i dont think people should go through that. Even kids go through this imagin if you could not eat for a week or you had a deadly disease because you couldnt afford to go to the doctor.

In the state of the union adress, I think president Obama should talk about ending the war in Afghanistan and bringing our troops home because it's an awful, violent war that is taxing our economy when right now, we can't afford any more expenses.

I would appreciate if President Obama addressed the issue of the national debt. It seems that any plan he has put to the test hasn't done much to the 16.5 trillion debt America has. I think Obama should promise to work at fixing our economy or make it better I don't care if that means we have to make some changes. If he wanted to he could lower gas prices, but he won't do it. I would like to hear about the Gun control policy, I do not agree with the idea of taking guns from the innocent and rendering them helpless in situations where a gun may defend them. We are only digging ourselves into a situation similar to the drug wars. People who do not plan to use a gun for appropriate situations are not likely to follow any other rules set for guns. If someone wants anything bad enough, they will find their way to it. The gun control policy may also fuel their desire to break the rules and cause larger problems, we are setting up unfavorable situations.
I think one of the big thing would be the gun control. Even though i don't hunt or rarley ever use guns I still think that they should be open to be used. I think that they should make up a class that you have to take to buy or even own a gun. I would like to see how he looks at this issue and how he plans to fix it. If they would take guns away I think there would be some very unhappy hunters.
I believe that they should talk about the beverage control happening in New York. I don't believe that people should be allowed to decide how much you want to drink. But on the other hand I understand why they are doing this. We need to start lowering our weight average in America because it is becoming quite rediculous. America needs to learn self-control and if that means lowering what we are allowed to consume I agree. But we should decide if we want to be fat or not that shouldn't be the governments decision for us.
I would like the issue of marriage laws to be talked about. I think ALL of the states need to have the same law. Having only certain states allowing gay marriage is a big issue. This is supposed to be a free country. If one state can look beyond the norms of society why cant they all?
Because southern states like Alabama, Mississippi, Georgia, Florida, Texas, and Arkansas are very religious states, all of whom speak out against gay marriage. Trying to convince those states to legalize gay marriage would be like trying to get a vegetarian to eat 10 pounds of raw meat. Trust me. As a southern myself, we will never legalize gay marriage, no matter how many other states do. Now do you see why we all tried to secede in 1861?
I would like to hear some more on the proposed gun control. I want to know what the president has in mind for the guns in the country. I would also like to know what the president has up his sleeve for the war in Afghanistan. Being interested in the military makes me curious as to how likely it would be to be deployed to Afghanistan. I want to serve, but I would rather serve from the United States; I don't want to leave our amazing country.
I think gun control should be talked about. I, personally, think that if someone has a hunting license and/or someone has a gun for protection in their house, it should be ok. I'm not saying that just anyone could get buy a license or gun. People should have to take some sort of test that shows that they know how to use it properly and safely, then, if they pass, are allowed to have a gun. If they have some sort of accident or they shoot someone, their license and guns get revoked and they have to retake the test in order to get them back.
In my opinion gun control is a big issue that should be talked about. Who should be able to buy them and carry them? How do you know who are the right people to give them to? Yes the authorities and military but what about the woman or man that has a family and wants to be able to protect them in every way they can? How could you deny them that right? You can make it as hard as you want to get a gun but, no matter what people will always find ways to buy guns.
My sociology class discussed this a few months ago after Sandy Hook. I believe that gun control is important especially because of all the tragedies involved with them this past year. Sadly it is so hard to relegate it because of hunters(which I am)and people that believe that guns keep them safe in their homes. I also believe that if someone that has a record with gun violence or any violence wouldn"t be allowed. This will help but will not completely fix the problem.
I hope there is a lot of discussion about gun control. This is a big issue in America lately and I'm sure it will be brought up. The country is split on both sides of this issue so it will be intresting to see how the President goes about dealing with it.
I would like to hear about the gun laws. I think that it important that we solve that issue because it is a very important topic. I dont think that guns should be banned but i do think that you should go through some special kind of policy to have the rights to own a gun. They will never be able to ban guns because, like they are really going to search every corner of the world just to find every gun. People are going to have guns whether the president bans them or not.
Why are so many taxes being taken out of a military person's paycheck? They do more for this country than most people. They put their life on the line and how are they repaid? By the goverment taking all this money away from them. How is that fair to them? I also want to hear more about this whole gun control thing. How is it going to help our country and how are we going to enforce it when we can't even enforce the laws against drugs? What are you going to do when the laws aren't followed? I would also like to hear more about why marijuana is becoming legal in come places. Medical purposes? For what? Mental patients to stay calm?
I would like to hear about is the plan for the armed forces in other countries. Are they going to be coming home? Where are they going to be sent next? What are the plans for future threats on america? When are we going to do something about the gas prices?

What I would like to hear about is our health care system. I want to hear why the president and the rest of our political leaders won't take the same health care system they decided every American should have. I would also like to hear about the new immigration laws they are considering. Why should people that are here illegally stay? If new immigration laws are instilled it will encourage even more illegal immigration and more American jobs will be lost...our unempolyment is already up to 7 %.
Firstly, I would like to know the President`s attitude to the current political situation. Secondly, I am interested in Obama`s plans of solving some issues. I would like to find out his thoughts about gun control. In my opinion, this is a very important issue nowadays. Also I hope to hear Obama`s ideas about stoppage of illegal immigration. It would be great to find out the President`s opinion on this problem.
I really want the president to address no-fault divorce laws because the divorce rate is higher than the rate of marriage. Divorce is a bad thing to deal with in general, but divorce also takes away the vows of marriage. Today majority of people have divorced families and the cause of this is because no-fault divorce laws make it so easy to achieve. I believe if you are married and want to divorce someone it should be for a reason, not just because you aren't "in love" with them anymore. I think our country really needs to look at this topic to save marriage in general.
I'd like to hear the president say something positive about the gun laws that everyone has been so hung up on lately. It'd be nice to hear him say that, yes, it should be harder to purchase guns, but not illegal to own them. Ever since the Newtown shooting, everybody has gotten all up tight and worried. But, when in reality, guns don't kill people, people kill people.

I think something that should be addressed is God in schools. I know to some people they don’t see it necessary; however there are others that do. I’m not saying that learning about should be forced in schools, just an option. If people had the option people may try it out just to see what it’s like then in the long run it could greatly help. So I think something that should be addressed is God in schools as an option.
Exactly! Our Constitution grants us freedom of religion, yet a kindergartner can not simply draw a picture of a cross without being suspended?! Am I the only one who sees a problem with this kind of thinking?
I know that, for many years, education in the US has done some critical thinking about change. There have been increasing dropout rates, falling grades, and the stress for students has risen as well. There are many elements that affect this. I would like to hear the president address the lack of action (or reaction) to the global competition that leaves the unmotivated students not faring well. I feel that this is a troubling issue that must be addressed.
I want to hear the President address the gun issues with high capacity clips and asalt weapons. The goverment needs to focus on the guns so something like Newtown does not happen again. Imagration reform also is a major topic for the President's second term.

I would absolutely love for our President to address the dysfunctional relationship between both Republicans and Democrats in the government. Before we can mend any predicaments that we are facing, our government has to be able to see eye-to-eye.

Especially school shootings like the Columbine school and Sandy Hook shootings. Too many people get bullied and commit suicide, like Amanda Todd. We need more jobs for poor people. We don't want to see poor people on the streets eating trash.

I want to hear how on earth he plans to pay off our 16.5 trillion dollar debt. The government is borrowing and average of 3.2 billion dollars a day and is sticking our generation with the bill.

You can't judge all people on something that happened 12 years ago. Not all muslim are bad, i just really want to see people stop saying hateful stuff about us muslims. In my opinion, i think that the president is not thinking clearly, if he takes away the gun policy, then how are we supposed to defend ourselfs. the only way to stop a bad guy with a gun, is a good guy with a gun.
