Work Ethic

"Opportunity is missed by most people because it's dressed in overalls and looks like work."

I love that quote from Thomas Edison.  And as someone who's worked as a grocery store bagger and shopping cart fetcher, a department store stockman and a lawn mower, I appreciate what Edison was talking about.

On Thursday, we've got a great story about an 18-year-old with a great work ethic.  Know anybody like him?

Keep It or Return It?

A homeless man returned a woman's diamond engagement ring to her after she accidentally dropped it into a donation cup.  Definitely the right thing to do - and the story has a great ending.

Some friends of mine were discussing this and started thinking about when to return something they find.  They agreed that if they found five bucks on the ground and no one else was around, they'd probably keep it.  But if they found a diamond ring somewhere, they'd try to find its owner - or at least a nearby lost-and-found.

What's the cut-off?  Is it $100...$1,000?  A gold ring?  A diamond?

Managing Your Money

When it comes to money, do you tend to save more or spend more?
You don't need to take a class in financial literacy to have a sense of how well you handle money.  But how would you define "handling money well"?  Do you think it's more important to save or to spend...and what are you saving for or spending on?

What Could You Give Up?

It's gotta be something difficult to go without, so vegetables or dodgeball don't count.

While we were talking about Lent in Thursday's show, we started thinking about things we could reluctantly (but realistically) give up.  Steak would be a tough one for me, but I know I could do it.  Texting would be tougher - not sure I could commit to that one.

Whether or not you celebrate Lent, what's something you enjoy that you think you could live without for 40 days?

Newtown and the Media

After you see Friday's segment involving coverage of Newtown, Connecticut, we'd like to get your feedback on how the media have handled this story.  How long should the media follow something like this?

Looking forward to your comments.

Empty Mailboxes

If the U.S. Postal Service stops Saturday delivery, will it matter to you?
Nothing too fancy today. We're just trying to find out if a scheduled stop in Saturday mail delivery (except for packages) would matter to you.

Loyalty vs. Conviction

In Jerusalem, it's a question of sports loyalty versus personal conviction, with some fans of an Israeli soccer team rooting against some of the players on the team.  (You'll hear a few different viewpoints on this in Wednesday's show.)

What if something like this happened where you live?  Would it matter to you if your favorite team signed a player that said or did something you didn't agree with - or had different beliefs than you?  If so, how would you react?
