Your Opinion: Immigration
On CNN Student News this week, we're talking about many different views on the issue of immigration. What are your thoughts on this issue?

I think that they should ask the people who are here illeagaly why they came. If they have a good reason they should be able to stay
i think that the people that immigrated should be able to stay here its not like they are causing harm.They have rights to.
How many illegal immigrants are involved in drug trafficking that are here illegally. How many escaped the law from the country they came from. How many are here and are involved in human trafficking.
Those that are here and are working, are not a danger to our country, who believe in the constitution, or are students brought here by their parents and are willing to take legal steps to become a citizen should be able to work toward citizenship.

But they can lie about that you know. Make up some sob story and stay illegally. I do think they should be given another chance though. If they've been here long enough to outsmart the government they have the right to stay 🙂
The big thing to be worried about is if they are here to be a citizen or if they are just going to harm the economy.
Yeah,but I think everyone should have the same rights as other people.
I personally think that people should be allowed to immigrate to different places if they want to visit for a while or go to a landmark, although they should't be coming to live without a passport or legal documents. They can live there if they have the passport and the right to live there.
I feel that if an immigrant has been registered and wants to pursue a good career, then they shall be able to live freely in the United States. If they are escaping war torn countries and are good people than they should be able to prosper in our country. On the other hand, illegal immigrants that may have a criminal record should not be allowed in the United States because they might harm our country. Immigration is a big issue and it needs to be addressed as soon as possible.
I agree with Kendall. He presented good arguments about why illegal immigrants get to stay.
America is the land of opportunity. We are descendants from immigrants with the exception of Native Americans. We wouldn't be here if it weren't for immigration. Might as well give people the chance to have a happy life. The golden rule is treat people the way you want to be treated.

Immigration is a big issue that needs to be addressed right away. If immigrants are registered and don't have any criminal record than they should be allowed to live and prosper in our country. If they want to pursue a good career than they should be able to live in the United States. On the other hand, if they do have any criminal record than they should not be allowed to live in this country. Many people feel strongly about this topic and it needs to be dealt with immediately.
I think people that are waiting for a long time should get a chance first.
Immigration is a complex issue in American politics. I think one of the root causes of illegal immigration is the complex and expensive immigration system we currently have in place. The extensive paperwork and money that goes into becoming a citizen of the United States is turning people away from the legal path and making them take the illegal path, which seems cheaper and easier considering most illegal immigrants coming into the United States do not have very much money and therefore cannot afford the legal process. Most illegal immigrants tried to legally enter but were turned off by the work and resources that were needed.
I used to be an immigrant and it took thousands and thousand of dollars to get my residency. I believe that immigrants should earn their way by paying taxes and helping the country. These should be the people that get their citizenship and not just giving it for living in the country and relying on the government and the church to feed them. If the government makes a reform that is more strict on hiring immigrants, then more people will be poor in the nation. If they are sent back, they will come back because other countries aren't as advanced as we are and I have seen it happen many many times.
I think that this is a great law,It will give rights to migrants and also will help to improve economy but i also think the migrants who have any criminal record should be deport.
They came from Mexico for a better future. You can't take whatever they've come for away and send them back.
I think the immigration pardon is a good idea. My grandfather is an illegal immigrant, and while he has always been able to find a job, I think others that are not so lucky should be given the chance.

I am aginst MOST of the imagration reform. It is basically amnisty. I think that we should let them get the ball rolling on getting green cards and such but not give them outright freedom. Please let me say for the record that I am a former illeagel imogrant and the rest of my family dosn't want amnisty.

I think people today tend to migrate from poor country to developing country for getting more comfortable living and more money. But, some of them are illegally because of don't allow by local government for not enough work for them. In my personal, the local government should check out all immigration people who are not eligible, and give them back to their home country

I think its fair to give the undocumented residents a citizenship because they might have tried hard to get a green card but when all means failed they used illegal documents.
In this issue, Denying immigration is unreasonable In the global age. Plus, especially for the undocumented immigrant -already have lived for a long time- , there is no one able to deprive of their life without permission only because of undocumented! Because the democracy always seek the human right and freedom in the first front.
Contrary to this point, in fact, There is also no one able to ignore native (original people from native indians to the white and the black) for only the immigrant's right. Most of native are concerned about losing their work place and afraid that their normal life are possible to be damaged by newcomers bringing new conflicting culture. In short, native is worrying about the change which can lead native life manner to be broken or sacrificed.
This is actually so complicated problem and this depends on the variables like immigrant's job or native's political value. But absolutely I can say
"if immigrant are a doctor or an professional engineer? They would be welcomed. But or not? I think they should accept the invisible discrimination by loyalist."
I wrote "this issue(in the first line of the first paragraph)" means both U.S immigration reform and some of opinions against the immigration(by Republicans and some of group in public 🙂 My opinion relate to the article about current flow of immigration reform in the U.S
I don’t think the administration should allow everything to undocumented immigrants,but rather to make the standard more lenient that immigration can be available for the wider range of people. Because, of course, immigration needs qualification and the wiliness to respect the country’s law is also important, therefore iwe can't deal the undocumented same to the legally waiting people. But as they are so desirable for U.S. immigration for more chances, they should also be able to take the chance. And I think if they do this way, it is also same as giving merits to legal waiters, so it would be fair for the both.
I think refugees have to be an American resident because they have no shelter, nor food.

Personally, I don't like the proposal. My great grandmother and her family left Italy had to spend weeks on Ellis Island in order to be accepted, they had to provide paperwork on their birth and vaccinations. They had to work hard for their citizenship and I don't believe it is fair to just hand the current immigrants citizenship that are here ILLEGALLY. If they really want citizenship they need to follow the legal procedures properly.
America is the immigration center of the world and the country needs to shorten the process of becoming a citizen. My mother is an immigrant from Cuba and she remembers that is was not as long compared to today.
Our family moved from the UK to here. We had no citizenship. Our family had a struggle but we did it. Now that there are thousands of them I think we should help them because know what they are going to do and it is not easy.

I think that if you have lived in the United States for awhile and your permanent record is clean , you should be able to go to college in the United States ! If we keep on sending educated people back to their country we are losing great doctors,lawyers,etc.

I think that the unite state should make an immigration reform for those people that came here to work, or came for an education because if they letted all the others races and cultural come here. Well why not Hispanics, Latinos and other races.
I'm Biracial (Black & Puerto Rican) although i didn't need a green card to get to the U.S., i think that people should be givin the oppurtunity to get green cards, i'm saying all this to say, i don't think the process of citizenship should be that difficult.
I think the United States should help people that have a dream and that wants to have and education.
I think this is ridiculous. The Pilgrims came to America without passports or anything and founded the USA. Why should that change now? Also, people might leave because they have to, for there own safety. This is getting ridiculous.

I think before we handle the immigrates that have already gotten in, we should secure the border so no one else can sneak in. The longer we wait, the bigger the problem is going to get. That is because more and more immigrates will come in and the population of illegal immigrates will get–just that much more to do something with. I think they should be forgiven and become citizens, but still have illegal immigration their record.

I think the illegal immigrants should have to go through a process to become legal. There are immigrants trying to become citizens the legal way, so it would be unfair to simply grant the illegals citizenship.

Honestly, I haven't made my decision on immigration. But every day I'm leaning more to Presdient Obama's plan. In consideration, I also think about immigrants who come to America to care for their families. Where will they go if they're banned?
I personally don't think that you should have to be a citizen to live somewhere, though citizenship would have its advantages. As long as immigrants are checked for drugs, weapons, etc. at the border, you needn't worry. I guess my point is, if I wanted to, (and I wasn't a minor) I could travel to Paris and live in a hotel. And I can fly over the Mexico border, as long as I have my passport.

Saying yes to immigration is like saying its okay to passport all they drugs that they try to. 40+% of americans are already on welfare and then they legalize immigration,so they can get better jobs. If illegal immigrants get automatic citizenship, it would encourage others to come into the country and think its okay. I think that as long as they can follow our laws, create good business, and pay taxes, they should be able to follow the path to citizenship.
I think more immigration would be better because people from there culture ,say Mexico, make better mexican food. Same as Japan, China, and many other places.
I think it is good that if you're an immimgrant and you've lived here all your life that you could just stay. This would be good for very young people who didn't have a choice to come here but were brought by their parents.

What many people do not realize is that millions of children have come here only because their parents brought them here. They did not have a choice. The United States is the only home they know. I do not think that they should be granted citizenship so easily. It is not fair to the people that have been waiting on citizenship their whole life. Some people have been waiting years to be granted citizenship but because they haven't broken the law like illegal immigrants they won't become citizens.

I think the immigration reform is a good idea, although I do think it is a bit unfair for people who have been here longer. If we don't get a reform, people are going to keep coming to the United States illegally and the government will arrest more people because they are not U.S. citizens and they don't have visas, and that wastes tax money, which won't help get the U.S. out of the the multi-trillion dollar debt it has. If the governemt reforms the laws, maybe it will encourage people who come to the U.S. from foreign countries to actually become legal instead wasting tax money in food stamps and other benefits that they can get the U.S. citizens usually don't get, or getting arrested.

I think that since Syria is having a civil war the people of that country should migrate to a different country if they please. I also think that if this war is this bad I would want my family to go to different country when if I would be considered an immigrant.
They should follow the correct LEGAL process to become a citizen. We'll become extremely overpopulated if we automatically give anyone citizenship when they touch U.S. soil, and that would also encourage way more immigration than we can handle.
I think that there should be a limit to how many immigrants can come in at one time. There also should guards watching the border for illegal immigrants that try to come to the United States.

I strongly believe in the Immigration Reform plan because I believe Americans take for granted how many oppurtunities we get, so when someone from another country, who doesn't get as many chances as we do, comes in hope of pursuing their dreams, I think we should fully support them.

I think if people come to America as babies but arnt officially US citizens they should be able to stay because they spent there whole life here. I feel like if someone is an illegal immigrant and they've been in America since their childhood then they shouldn't be deported, however if they just came over as an adult or young adult then it's not fair that they stay. People around the world still see America as 'freedom land' , so we shouldn't just out right limit immigrants. I think that the immigration reform could be good. The immigrants, who may not have a home or shelter to live in, can finally get a job to pay for that kind of stuff. But if you think about it where do all of the immigrants that live here get their food and needs besides from food stamps and et cetera?

Many seem to forget that their ancestors were all immigrants when they came to America.America is actually a country that was build off of immigration. While many argue that it would not be fair to grant citizenship because there has been people waiting in the queue, i feel like the citizenship issue needs to be addressed so that the queue can be a lot shorter, but citizenship should not be granted without taking security measures. Many migrate to America to fulfill their American Dream and if it causes no harm I don't see anything wrong with it.

I believe that the immigrants that are already here should stay and no harm should come to them.They might have been smuggled over as a baby. HOW WERE THEY SUPPOSED TO KNOW! We need to strengthen our borders now so that it will be harder to sneak in to the states. There should be no violence involved at all during the entire process.

When the government trys to stop illegal immigration by allowing illegals to become citizens it just encourages more illegals to come plus many off the illegals are willing to work for little and hard. In return, many Americans can not find a job because of that. If you are going to make illegal immigrants become citizens, the government should do a lottery and only the ones that win will go through the process to become citizens.. The others who did not win the lottery should go back to were they came from and get a green card to come into the U.S.A legally.
I think President Obama had a good point when he said that it's easy for the issue to turn into an us vs. them debate, but we have to remember that WE ourselves came from immigrants. If you are not true Native American blood, you are not truly American. Most of us came from immigrants ourselves, and why shouldn't we give the immigrants who are already here a chance?

I like the idea of the Immigration reform. So many people could not live here legally but love the United States just as much as you or I do! When it comes to whats morally right I think that the reform is a good thing. I still haven't decided on my political view.
I don't think immigration is bad. It is a great thing if you think about it. But I think that the people in our country who are illegally here are not causing any harm. But I think what most Americans are worried about are have terrorists from other countries. But other than that immigration is great for them so they can live in a free country!

Obviously the immigrants want to be in America so bad they are willing to come illegally, so we should give them a chance to become a citizen. If they're successful, they should have some sort of punishment for coming illegally in the first place, so they aren't getting off the hook.

Though the illegal immigrants will be taking some of our jobs in America, I believe that if they stayed here for the majority of their life they're practically an American already. And some of these illegal immigrants have been truely contributing to our country. I sincerely hope the Dream Act gets passed.

I think illegal immigrants that come to the United States should not be illegal in the first place. Immigrants should have easier access to citizenship so they can actually have the opportunity that citizens do, and so they can pay taxes.

I think that illegal immigrants should be either sent back to their own country or be forced to participate in the military. They can apply for a visia like everyone else does instead of sneeking in. I went through the normal and legal visa process and I'm fine. People who are here illegal should at least get an opportunity to get a legal visa and live a life here!!!

Even the earliest "Americans" were immigrants. In fact, everyone in America is a descendant of an immigrant, or immigrated at one point to the US. I don't see the difference.

My family and I have been in the U.S. for about 9 years now (legally) trying to apply for a green card. We spent thousands of dollars each year applying for it (Lawyer, paper work, work authorization, etc.). Am I now being told that people who are here illegally will be able to have an easier path to citizenship? I don't think its fair. I don't want illegal immigrants to be deported, I want them to be able to live here freely, I really do! But I don't think it's fair for those who have spent years of their life and hard work ( my dad had to work two jobs, and he only got about 6 hours of sleep each day, sometimes less, sometimes more, no days off so we could pay our bills and immigration stuff ) trying to get into the U.S. Legally and trying to apply for a Green Card.
By the way, just to give you an example of how hard it is for immigrants (legal and illegal): My family has to apply for a Work Authorization card to work every few years, and the card has to be valid for you to work and to be able to drive with a valid License. When it expires, you get fired from work and your drivers license expires. So no income or way of transportation. That's pretty scary. When it expires, you have to apply for another Work permit.Did I mention how much money it costs to do that? AND how much paper work and running around there is? A whole lot of it. But it's a harder life for illegal immigrants because they can't apply for a Permit or they get caught and deported back to their country.
(This isn't really part of my argument I just wanted those who didn't know to know)
In my view, those immigrants should find ways to be legal citizens. There are many ways to do so, but it takes time. Or else half of the world will be American...
