Ball Hog or Hero?

He set the college basketball record, scoring 138 points in a single game. To some, he's a hero; to critics, he's a ball hog.

When asked about that on CNN, Jack Taylor actually said he was a ball hog - but that he had the help and support of his coach and teammates to set the record.

What do you think?

We think he was NOT a ball hog. It took his whole team helping to make these shots happen.
We are proud of his accomplishements in this game!

Our Government & Economics class felt that he was a hero. It was a difficult accomplishment and he did a great job.

Hero because he helped his team to win the game. It was a team cooperative effort to get the record. The team helped him out. If he was a ball hog the team would have stopped feeding him the ball. He could be a real basketball star.

  5. Mr. Burns' Social Studies class

His teammates kept giving him the ball, so technically he wasn't hogging the ball. If he did this in every game I would call him a ball hog, but since this was a one time thing, I don't think he was a ball hog. His teammates wanted him to set the record, so it was really a team effort even though he got the credit.

We believe he is a star because he broke the record but we feel his team should also be recognized because they were unselfish and allowed Jack to achieve this goal.

He was a hero. If you can break a record, go for it! Show your talent if you can! He made his shots, what's wrong with that? I think Kobe Bryant was amazed by the hero, Jack Taylor. If you can surpass a record go for it!

Most people would say he is a ball hog but I think he is a superstar. As he said in the video "I tried to pass the ball but my teamates would just give the ball right back". So,considering his words were true he was not a ball hog! But,that is just my opinion.

        November 27, 2012 at 8:09 pm |
      • Nicolas

He is a Hero because every time he would pass the ball to his teamates they would always pass it back to him because they know he would make the shot, so he's not really a ball hog if you think about it.

He was not a ball hog at all! If a ball hog is a person that gives the ball to his teammates and then his teammates give the ball back without him calling for it, then basically anyone who is even remotely good at basketball is a "ball hog."

      November 27, 2012 at 11:57 pm |
    • Auryana

I think he did set the record, but he can't play by himself on the court. His teammates helped him out too. he is not taking all of the fame he gave credit to his teammates.

I think that he is a hero and a great role model, him and his teamates worked hard together to break the record. All of his teamates and his coaches should also get reconized

Yet can you provide a legitimate reason why? His team passed him the ball, kept passing it to him.

Whoa, definantly a Basket Ball Star!!! He can't be a hog when his team mates were the ones passing him the ball. He shot himself to record score. 138, so great!

I think that he is a hero that was super awesome what he did the team kept passing the ball to him because he I good and they wanted to win he is not a ball hog

I think that he was sort of being a ball hog cause he would shoot the ball a ton of times and wouldn't have any other of his teammates shoot it. But I think he was being a ball hog. 🏀

    • madison

I think he was just being a great player and if his play mates and couch let him that he sould go all out and make the shots. He sould just follow what he thinks and do his best.

Ok, I sort of think both but however I'm not saying he's a ball hog in a bad way but he is basketball star for the most part, he wins for the team and that's good! His teammates are not selfish or anything they trust him. If you are in a game of course you want to win, I'm saying (also) that he is technically the "ball man" he has it a lot and that's fine they want him to have he offers it but he's not necessarily a ball hog.

I think he was both in a way of course they gave him the ball, but he could've always give the ball back to his teammates, but he is also a bball star

Jack taylor isn't a ball hog. It was a team descision to let jack have control of the ball for most of the game. Also the team would have let him know if he was hogging the ball.

  16. Kristabell

I think that the player is a basketball star! He deserves the right to have the new record because if you have skill, you should be able to shine! 138 points is alot to score and if someone makes the effort to they should be rewarded.

I think that Jack Taylor is a B-Ball superstar. He played a fantastic game and made 138 points total with his unselfish teammates, and also made a new record! I think he shouldn't be put down or criticized for a great game!

I think Taylor is a ball hog. If he really cared about his team he would have passed it and not have worried about himself. His teammates were probably happy and little angry bevause I'm sure that they would have wanted to score as well.

How is he worrying about himself?

I think its considered a ball star because it unusual for anyone to score that many point in a game in the first place. Plus he had the help of his coach and the team to get him the ball to make those shots anyways. He had to be some kind of how that night because I seen the post from Lebron James and Kobe Bryant on twitter that night. He is a star in my eyes

    November 27, 2012 at 12:52 pm |
  25. Amber

I think Jack Taylor is not a ball hog because he was supported by his coach and teammates. Jack's teammates would give him the ball instead of shooting. Also Jack would give his teammates the ball, but would give it right back.

I think he is a hero. People should not go around and say he is a ball hog. Just because he set the world record. i think it is so cool he did nothing wrong. And he should be proud of hemself. And we sould be happy for him.

      November 27, 2012 at 6:53 pm |
  28. Aaron

I think he's both. If someone has the opportunity to shoot the ball that many times then he could have passed more but to score 138 points in one game is amazing. It takes a lot of skill.

    November 27, 2012 at 1:01 pm |
  29. Jacob

Definitely a ball hero because he didn't hog the ball it was his teammates choice to pass it to him and he still passed it around. He is definitely skilled to score 138 points. And also he didn't act like a huge airhead and he kept his cool.

I don't think Jack is either, his teammates passed him the ball, and basketball is only a game, the word hero should be reserved for our soldiers and other who put their lives on the line to help other.

I think he is a basketball star. You can see it was a team effort. If you were to score that many points a game, you would have to have help getting the ball down the floor.

    November 27, 2012 at 1:12 pm |
  34. Jade-lee

He was handed the ball and his team wanted him to have the ball so that he could break the record there's nothing wrong with that. Ball- hog or not he's still a champion!

His team wanted to beat the score so that they could beat the record together, he was being a good sport

      November 27, 2012 at 2:18 pm |
  35. Jenifer

He was defentaly a basket ball hero. He and his team worked together and figured out how they could win in some kind of way. They figured that if they give Taylor the ball then he would bring home the win for him because every time you turn around he was making hoop for hoop. S o on his part and his coaches and teammates part the stuck together and that is what true team mates do for each other in a complicated situation like they were in. He defenatly did a good job so brava to Taylor and his coaches plus his team mates that what we should always say stick together no matter what that is what true friends and family do for each other in any complicated situation. 🙂

He was a hero of saving the team form losing.I thought he did a wonderful job.I don't think he was a ball hog at all. They wanted him to have the ball so they could win the game.

If his team mates and coaches wanted to get him the ball so he could score, then he wasn't exactly denying anyone else the ball. If they kept giving him the ball even if he gave it to them before, then what can he do?

I would say that he is really good at basketball, unlike me, but he did seem to really hog the ball, even if his teammates did pass it to him.

  43. Joel

It was both a ball hog and a Hero. Kobe Bryant isn't much better. But the team also had a choice to pass the ball to him so he could score. I say Jack Taylor is both a hero and a ball hog.

    November 27, 2012 at 1:27 pm |
  44. Mrs. DeLaTorre's class

On the one hand, Jack Taylor is a basketball star because he broke a record, with the help of his team and the support of his coach. He did nothing wrong.

On the other hand, if one of the goals of basketball is to create an atmosphere of good sportsmanship and a balanced team, then hogging the ball throughout an entire game was wrong.

Yes! He did help his team, they won. I think he also was somewhat a ball hog cause, he never passes just shot...

We feel that he was for the most part NOT a ball hog. His team mates seemed to be supporting him and setting him up for shots. His coach must have been for it too, otherwise he would have stopped him. It was that one "special moment in time" that may never happen again. It is too bad that a professional sports annoucer had to make that tweet. Perhaps some people need to think before tweeting.

He is not a ball hog. He had tried to pass the ball to other players but they just kept passing the ball to him because they wanted to win.But I think that we can all agree that getting 138 points in one game is pretty impressive.

Jack Taylor is DEFINITELY a basketball hero!! If he was a ball hog, then of course his team mates wouldn't pass him the ball. It takes a lot of talent to shoot 138 points especially him shooting 71 three-pointers!! If he can shoot more than a NBA player he is definitely a basketball star!!!

    November 27, 2012 at 1:58 pm |
  51. Jenny

I think that Jack is not a ball hog. He's a basketball hero! He was passed the ball,he didn't take it from everyone. He is the best! I was in shock when I heard how many points they got,and all thanks to Jack. If he was a ball hog I don't think the other players would of even got the ball once. Also he made their team win, and he's not even a brag about it.:-)

    November 27, 2012 at 1:58 pm |
  52. Stara

I don't think he was a ball hog because he was tryna to give it to his teammates but they turned around and gave it back encouraging him to soot the ball, there is no way for anybody to think that because you can plainly see that his teammates wanted him to have the ball, but everyone has their right to their opinion.

    November 27, 2012 at 1:59 pm |
  53. Matthew

Jack Taylor is a hero he was only trying to help his team win the game 🙂

    November 27, 2012 at 1:59 pm |
  54. Sam

Hero by far. He wouldn't have ever gotten his 138 points if it weren't for his teamates being unselfish. Basketball is a team sport, you always push your teamates to the best of their ability; and in his case they pushed him to break a record. Even when he tried to pass the ball off they just tried to get him the ball right back. He had a hot hand and everything was sinking. You give the ball to the player who's shot was one and his most definently was the game.

    November 27, 2012 at 2:00 pm |
  55. Qiana

I think he is a ball hero because his team did pass him the ball so that he could shoot.

    November 27, 2012 at 2:00 pm |
  56. Olivia

He obviously cared about his team, because he made an effort to give the ball back to the other players during the game. I do think that he was a ball hog, but does that term always have to be used in a negative way? He did his job and did what he was told to do. In my opinion, he is a star and a ball hog, and there's nothing wrong with that.

    November 27, 2012 at 2:01 pm |
  57. Hector

I think he's not a ball hog because the team he plays for helps him to get the record. [:

    November 27, 2012 at 2:01 pm |
  58. Michael

He had to have had support from his coach, also team. And they had to of passed it to him, how would he even get 138 points if they did not pass it to him, also he is a basketball star if he got 138 points.

    November 27, 2012 at 2:02 pm |
  59. Ashley

I think he is a ball hero. If his team members thought of him as a ball hog, they wouldn't have continuely passed the ball to him. His team members knew that a record was going to be broken and they knew he was the one who had enough skill to beat the previous record. He is considered a ball hog in the eyes of other teams, though, because he was the only one shooting and had the ball most of the time through the game.

    November 27, 2012 at 2:02 pm |
  60. Eric

He shot more then the rest of the team combined times 4. 0 Assists the entire game and 138 points. Feel bad for the other 14 players on the team. Ball Hog for sure!

I think he is a basketball star because his teammates wanted him to score.he was also told to by his coach

    November 27, 2012 at 2:03 pm |
  62. Sierra

I would say a hero or basketball star because it was his teammates choice to give it to him and he tried to pass the ball around and it wasn't his fault his teammates gave it back to them I would defiantly choose hero or star.

    November 27, 2012 at 2:03 pm |
  63. Maddie!

I think he was definitely a HERO, it takes ALOT of practice to shoot 138 baskets!!Yeah he could have gave it to at least one of his players ,but every time he did they would pass it right back to him.So all you people out there just think can you shoot that many baskets! He could totally be a basketball star!

    November 27, 2012 at 2:03 pm |
  64. Whitney

I think he is a ball hog and a basketball hero. I think its great that he can make that many points in one game, and that he has that skill. But, I also think even though he is really good, he could let his teammates also have a shot.

    November 27, 2012 at 2:03 pm |
  65. leslie

Even though, hes a good ball player he could let some of the other players shoot at least a couple of times. So i think he is a ball hog

    November 27, 2012 at 2:04 pm |
  66. jessica

I think he is a basketball hero player because his teammates were just giving the ball to him and he was just helping his team. And I think he is a basketball star because he broke the record with help of his team.
    And thats what I think..

    November 27, 2012 at 2:04 pm |
  67. jake:)

I think he is a star because the team could have passed it to someone else if they had wanted to but thay did not pass the ball to engine else because thay wanted there team to be known as a good team that will win and its what the team wanted a good score

    November 27, 2012 at 2:05 pm |
  68. Carter

I think he is a basketball star and hero he said on CNN student news that he passed the ball to his teammates but they just passed it right back to him to shoot the ball he also said that at halftime his coach said to pass the ball to him because he was having a really good game and his teammates would just encourage him to keep shooting the ball that's why I think he is a basketball star and a hero.

    November 27, 2012 at 2:06 pm |

That is great he set the record but he is supporting his coach and teammates great for him I WOULD OF BEET THE RECORD IF I COULD!!!!!!!!!!!!

Jack was not a ball hog. His team was passing it to him. He did what was right for his team. Also almost every game they play there is always a star of the game. Also I'm from Iowa because we Iowans are like family.

I believe that he is an excellent ball player because he just broke a record duh. Some people may believe he is a ball hog because he scored so much but like in the interview he said his teammates kept on passing him the ball so he could break the record that is what makes him different from a true ball hog.

    November 27, 2012 at 2:08 pm |
  74. Abby

I don't think he is being a ball hog at all! That is a great opportunity for someone to shoot that much in a single game. Also if his teammates didn't mind go ahead shoot the ball because that's a amazing opportunity !

    November 27, 2012 at 2:08 pm |
  75. cassy

Well if his team keep throwing the ballot him they probably meant to do that because they new he was a good bball player I don't really think he is a hog but you should always count on your team that they can all do it I wouldn't want to call it ball hog or anything but he should have at least had one of his team mates try to shoot a basket as well

    November 27, 2012 at 2:09 pm |
    • Cassidy

Not a ball hog he was trying to help out the team😄

      November 27, 2012 at 2:11 pm |
  76. Tristan

A good player but he did I still miss a lot of his shots.

    November 27, 2012 at 2:09 pm |
  77. Mark

All of the focus is on Jack Taylor, and while his skills are definitely exceptional, his teammates deserve more of the credit for the little things that got him the opportunity to shoot the ball that many times: playing great defense and hustling down the floor.

    November 27, 2012 at 2:09 pm |
  78. Nicholas

That is cool that Kobe Bryant was tweeting about him that is just plane amazing.

    November 27, 2012 at 2:10 pm |
  79. Ben

I think he is a ball hog because he didn't pass it to them that much as he passed it to them. It has to be equal for him not to be called a ball hog. Another reason is I don't even take that many shots because I want to pass the ball around so its equal for everyone.🏀

    November 27, 2012 at 2:11 pm |
  80. Jacob

He is not a ball hog because his teamates gave the ball to him. He is a hero to many.

    November 27, 2012 at 2:11 pm |
  81. libby and emily

We feel that he is not a ball hog because his teammates were passing it to him. He also said he tried passing it to other players, but they kept on passing it back. We feel that he should be a hero.

    November 27, 2012 at 2:11 pm |
  82. April

I think he was a ball hog because he didn't want to share the ball. The reason the players are not selfish is because they stink at basketball and they just pass it to him, expecting him to win the game for them. In reality they need to learn the meaning of TEAMWORK!

    November 27, 2012 at 2:11 pm |
  83. Eli

I would'nt say he was a ball hog if his team mates gave the ball to him on purpose, so he's a basketball hero in my opinion.

    November 27, 2012 at 2:12 pm |
  84. Kaitlyn

I think he's a hero because it takes a lot of practice to do that and a lot of skill not many people can do that and his team mates probably knew he had a talent so they gave it to him and the other team could have got more points if they got it from him more and they worked a tiny bit harder. 😃😃😃😃😀😀😀😀😄😄😄😄

    November 27, 2012 at 2:13 pm |
  85. Frank

I think he is a ball hog, for one he spends the majority of the game with the ball and constantly expects his teammates to give him the ball. He isn't a basketball star quite yet. First he must learn Teamwork.

    November 27, 2012 at 2:14 pm |
  86. libby and emily

He did nothing wrong. Good luck on the next game jack!

    November 27, 2012 at 2:14 pm |
  87. Brennan

I think it's cool that he did that but I don't think he should have shot it that much.Plus scoring 138points would not make him a hero because he basically embarrassed the other team and that beat down could turn those other players off to basketball.

    November 27, 2012 at 2:14 pm |
  88. Carson

I think that he is a little of both because he could have got the ball to his teammates so they could have a chance to score, but at the same time I respect his decision to shoot the ball because his teammates wanted him to

    November 27, 2012 at 2:15 pm |
  89. Terenzo

I don't think he is a ball hog, because his teammates passed it to him and wanted him to beat the record.

    November 27, 2012 at 2:16 pm |
  90. Ben

I think it was a fair game but he was a ball hog than again his team wanted him 2 so it was a fair game.

    November 27, 2012 at 2:16 pm |
  91. Holly

It could swing either way, but in my opinion, I believe he was a basketball star. Yes, he admitted he was a ball hog, but his team encouraged it. He stated that he tired to pass the ball to the other players but they would just pass it right back. This proves that he is all for his team, and the team is all for him. They wanted him to break the record so they helped out. But technically, he could be considered both a ball hog and a basket ball star.

    November 27, 2012 at 2:17 pm |
  92. Brennan

I think that jack would be a great fit for the Cleveland cavs.

    November 27, 2012 at 2:17 pm |
  93. Eric

I say that he isn't a ball hog. But if his team mates havn't kept giving him the ball, he wouldn't have broken that record. So he is a basketball star for sure.

    November 27, 2012 at 2:17 pm |
  94. jake:)

he is a star and I know that he sed it but he is a star the pros only have one person who shoots the whole season

    November 27, 2012 at 2:18 pm |
  95. Courtney

His teammates passed him the ball back. so Jack Taylor is not a ball hog.

    November 27, 2012 at 2:18 pm |
  96. Jessica

I don't think he's a ball hog because his teammates gave him the ball and they support him. The critics can say what they want but playing well is not being a ball hog.

    November 27, 2012 at 2:18 pm |
  97. Marissa

hes a hero, not a ball hog because his teammates wanted him to shoot.

    November 27, 2012 at 2:19 pm |
  98. Trevor

I think that Jack Taylor was not being a ball hog. If his teammates were bothered by him getting the ball so much, they wouldn’t have passed it to him like he said. And even if his teammates weren’t getting the ball, they were still helping by playing defense.

    November 27, 2012 at 2:19 pm |
  99. Christine

The team worked together to earn this high score. Even though Jack Taylor will get all the glory, his whole team made it happen. Jack made th shots and the team passed him the ball... a hundred and thirty-eight times to be exact.

    November 27, 2012 at 2:20 pm |
    • Adrian

i think he is a ball hog because he could have passed the ball more to his teammates ibstead of just shooting the ball most of the time

      November 27, 2012 at 6:01 pm |
  100. Jacob

He is a ball hero, his team was willing to pass him the ball. He tried to get it away to, but they passed it back

    November 27, 2012 at 2:20 pm |
  101. Ceili

He and his team wanted to break the record together, he was only being the best sport he could possibly be

    November 27, 2012 at 2:20 pm |
  102. Caitlin

I would say that he is not a ball-hog because he was just trying to help out his team by driving or just shooting the ball when he wasn't well guarded.i would do the same.

    November 27, 2012 at 2:20 pm |
  103. Chris

i think he's a hero, 138 points all himself!!! that's epic if you ask me.

i think a he is a bball hero because it was amazing what he had done out there in the bball court it beat the record he is awesome what he one was so cool

    November 27, 2012 at 2:21 pm |
  105. Aaron

I think he was both a ball hog and a b-ball hero. For an example, he did have the baall more. Onthe other hand, his coach and his team mates wanted him to get the recored for collage b-ball.

    Ball hog

    November 27, 2012 at 2:24 pm |

I think that as long as Jack had the support of his team, being a ball-hog in this case, is OK, as long as they won.

    November 27, 2012 at 2:24 pm |
  108. Shadirus

He is not a ball hog, because he passed it to all of the players and they passed it back to him, so he shot the ball and his teammates want him to beat the record.

    November 27, 2012 at 2:24 pm |
  109. pedro

I think he is a bball hero because his friends just wonted to keep on pasing him the balland he just wonted to help his team.

    November 27, 2012 at 2:25 pm |
  110. Angela

I don't think he was a ball hog cause when ever he passed the ball to a teammate they pass it back to him and 138 points is a lot!! His team should be happy that they're winning not calling him a ball hog

    November 27, 2012 at 2:25 pm |
  111. christian

He not a ball hog but he it dose not help if his team just keep giving him the ball so a NBA team mite offer him a contract.

    November 27, 2012 at 2:26 pm |
  112. natasha

i think that he"s a ball hog why? because he hogs the ball a lot of times and his team mates pases the ball to him and he runs with the ball that is why i thunk he is a ball hog

    November 27, 2012 at 2:26 pm |
    • Aliix

He tried to pass it to the other players and the declined him by passing it back. He was also listening to direction by doing what he was told.

      November 27, 2012 at 3:47 pm |
    • Christine

that is not true. He was given the ball back every time he passed the ball to his team mates. he is a ball star

I say he was kinda a BALL HOG!!!!!! I belive if you score 138 points in a basketball game you were a ball hog

    November 27, 2012 at 2:27 pm |
  118. Lawrence

I think he is both, because he could have let his teammates shoot some points and he should have shot the ball not as much as them, but the coaches probably want him to beat the college record.

  123. Mrs. DeFeo's Social Studies Classes

Overwhelming majority says, "B-Ball hero". The team actually is all heroic They saw an opportunity to make the record happen and they banded together to make it happen. Like the Muskateers, "All for one and one for all." If one person on the team had decided to "not help" the record would not have been achieved. So as a team, they accomplished something "star worthy".

Our class thinks that Jack Taylor is a basketball hero. He left no doubt while breaking the record. We are so proud of him because he is from our town, Black River Falls, Wisconsin. Go Jack!

He was definenetly a hero! Of course he had the ball the most but his team mates were passing it to him and thought he would be able to make it. His team mates made a It a choice to give it to him. It would be different if he kept asking for it, but again his teammates decided to give it to him. Also if you have that kind of talent use it! In the end I thought Jack Taylor was a hero.

He's totally a basketball hero! If he had kept the ball the whole time and had not passed it to his team mates then I would call him a ball hog. But he passed it to his team mates and they just tossed it back to him. His team must really trust him to be able to just give him the ball right away.

    November 27, 2012 at 3:22 pm |
  132. Annika

He was not a ball hog because his teamates cared enough about winning and they passed him the ball back every time he passed it to them .on the other hand he is not exactly a hero because basketball is just a game . To score a world record in one game is not exactly saving a person's life or risking your life for some one else

    November 27, 2012 at 3:23 pm |
  133. Tess

He's not a ball hog if his teammates believed in him to shoot all those hoops and if he passed it to someone els other then just keeping it then he's not a ball hog.

    November 27, 2012 at 3:24 pm |
  134. Kyle

Yes it is true that he was a ball hog but 138 points that is a lot. And his teamates were trying to dish him the ball if your hot you want the ball end of story.

    November 27, 2012 at 3:26 pm |
  135. Hailey

He is a hero. He only made all of those shots because his teammates wanted him to. Hios team mates were cool with it. If he stole the ball and his team mates didnt like it, then he would be a hog.

i think he is a hero because he had hot hands but i see why his teammates will think that he is a ball hog

His team gave he the ball, they wanted him to break the record. He should be recognized for his big accomplishment, not because he took a lot of shots.

I think he is a hero. he was helping his team and he was trying to help his team out by scoring the most. He also said his coaches wanted him to have the ball at halftime and his team was giving him the ball back after he tried giving it to them! Nice job Jack Taylor.

    November 27, 2012 at 3:37 pm |
  139. Ryley

In my opinion he wasn't being a ball hog because it was his teammates decisions to pass the ball, And he clearly stated that he did pass the ball but they always kept trying to pass it back. That isn't being a ball hog.

    November 27, 2012 at 3:38 pm |

If his team was repeatedly passing to him, why shouldn't he take the shots? Bball star

I understand how some people might think he is a ball hog, in a way I think so too. But my true opinion is that he is a basketball star!!!!!!
When I 1st heard this i thought it was a joke, but i now understand how good he is!
JACK TAYLOR if you are seeing this I thonk you are really good, and that maybe one day you should join the NBA maybe even the HEAT!
Please take this for granted, you truly are amazing.
    Keep up the good work!!!

He is defiantly a ball hog and he should not have been allowed to have the ball that much even if his teammates kept passing him the ball.

    November 27, 2012 at 3:42 pm |
  143. Aliix

I think he is a hero! He was getting a lot of great shots in the first part of the game, so his teammates and coach said he should go for the record. He did what he was told and he was very nice when he responded to the man saying he was a ball hog! This boy is a hero, he didn't have to go for the record of the team and try to be his best but he did.

    November 27, 2012 at 3:43 pm |
  144. Faye

I think that Jack Taylor is a hero to his team and school by scoring 138 points; his team was passing him the ball every time they got it and when he tried to pass it to his team mates they gave it right back to him he wa not being a ball hog. His team mates were encouraging him by giving him the ball which gave him more confidence and helped him score and win the game.

    November 27, 2012 at 3:44 pm |
  145. Riya

He was totally nota ball hog. I mean he had to do what was best for the team even if it means shooting most of the baskets. It's not a game of who gets the ball more, your focus has to be how you WIN.

    November 27, 2012 at 3:45 pm |
  146. Michelle

I think that he was a hero scoring 138 points in a single basketball game! But I do think he was a ball hog a little bit, even he admit it, although most of the game they worked as a team, or why would he score 138 points without team work? Anyway, I think he was a hero for scoring those points

    November 27, 2012 at 3:46 pm |
  147. Emma

I don't think that Taylor was a ball hog i think he was a hero. Taylor was not the one taking the ball his teamates were the one's passing him the ball. When Taylor got the ball he tried to pass it to his teamates but they just passed it back to him because they believed in him.

    November 27, 2012 at 3:46 pm |
  148. terry

I think Jack Taylor is a good basketball player. I think he is not a ball hog because he kept trying to give his team mates the ball and they kept giving the ball back. I think Jack Taylor is a basketball hero. He gave his team the wining game. He put a good reputation on his team and him. To the people that say he is a ball hog, you never know, he could be in the NBA. He must be good to have Kobe Bryant to tweet on his status.

    November 27, 2012 at 3:46 pm |
  149. Caleigh

I think that he is a ball hero, because even though some may have considered him a ball hog, his teammates were the ones who continuously passed him the ball. Taylor passed the ball to some of his teammates, but they kept giving him the ball back as they knew that a record was going to be broken. If the whole team thought of him as a ball hog, they would have told him so, and they wouldn’t have came together to make sure he kept getting the ball.

    November 27, 2012 at 3:47 pm |
  150. Cheyanne

yah i think he was a ball hog but has a new record and he's a definitely a star!

    November 27, 2012 at 3:47 pm |
  151. Taylor

I think that Jack Taylor is a hero and should be praised for being so great. When he passed the ball they just passed it back to him. They passed it to him so much because they obviously wanted him to get the record.

    November 27, 2012 at 3:50 pm |
  152. Tristan

I personally think that Jack Tailor is a ball hog and does NOT deserve the record breaking title. His team gave him the ball constantly, and their coach didn’t let anyone else shoot the ball.

    November 27, 2012 at 3:50 pm |
  153. Hannah

I think that Jack Taylor is a hero. He got support from his team they passed him the ball so he was not a ball hog. That is a big accomplishment to get 138 points in one game.

    November 27, 2012 at 3:51 pm |
  154. Danielle

My personal opinion on Jack Taylor is that I don’t think he was being a “ball hog.” I say this because he tried passing the ball to his teammates but they just kept passing the ball back to him. Also, Jack’s coach, and his teammates talked and his coach basically told the team to pass the ball to Jack. So, therefore, with what I think he wasn’t being a ball hog at all.

    November 27, 2012 at 3:51 pm |
  155. Sean

I think that Jack Taylor is a Hero with the 138 goal record because his teammates kept on giving him the ball, and when he tried giving them a chance they just gave it back to him. They thought it was a terrific idea for him to keep on scoring, and that’s why I think he’s a hero for the record not a ball hog.

    November 27, 2012 at 3:52 pm |
  156. Drewbis :D

I think Jack Taylor is NOT a ball hog. Yes, even though Jack said he was, his teammates chose to pass the ball to him. Jack's teammates and coaches decided to pass the ball to him and even though most of the time Jack passed the ball to his other teammates, but they passed it back to him! That's not Jack's fault at all!!! Now that Jack has set the record, he and his team are probably glad he had the ball, so now the team gets recognition not just Jack! They are mentioned for even passing the ball to Jack.

    November 27, 2012 at 3:56 pm |
  157. Chase

I think he's a hero because he scored 138 points which still beat the record

    November 27, 2012 at 4:00 pm |
  158. Jacob

He was not a ball hog because he was just trying to win the game for the team, and the team knew that and purposely gave him the spotlight for the good of the school.

    November 27, 2012 at 4:02 pm |
  159. Tessa

If the game plan was to do it that way and everybody agreed for it to be that way than it is a set record and he is not a ball hog. It even said that Taylor was trying to pass it to other players but they kept on passing it back. Therefore even if he was a ball hog it wasn't his fault.

    November 27, 2012 at 4:03 pm |
  160. Alyssa

He is not a ball hog. His teammates threw him the ball and when he threw it back to them they threw it back.and his coach told his teammates to throw it to him as much as they can.

    November 27, 2012 at 4:03 pm |
  161. Kalyn

I think he is a basketball star, but he he should of let his teammates shoot the ball more.🏀

    November 27, 2012 at 4:04 pm |
  162. Mason

He is a hero he was having a good game and the gameplay was to pass it to him so he could have the record. Also that is what your supposed to do if someone is hot you have to keep dishing it to him to win. I think we should just be happy for him that a small college Iowan can have that great of success and Jack still had to make those shots.

    November 27, 2012 at 4:05 pm |
  163. Julie

I don't know but i wouldn't say he is star, he just got the ball from his teammates so I would say neither I would call it a team effort to win the game.

    November 27, 2012 at 4:05 pm |
  164. Hailey

He is a hero because his teammates passed HIM the ball. They propably wanted him to shoot the ball. if u get the chance to shoot the ball then you should!!!! so I think that he is a bball start

    November 27, 2012 at 4:05 pm |
  165. Noah

It's not his falt if his team is supporting him . He wasn't being a ball hog if they wanted him to beat the record . If he was just not passing thats just a whole new story . But 138 points you need more than just your self to pull that off but congrats to him .

I think that that that is a bad thing because the point of basketball is not to score as much as you can it is to work as a team.

    November 27, 2012 at 4:05 pm |
  167. Malachi

    I think he's a good shot

    November 27, 2012 at 4:05 pm |
  168. Brock

I think he's not a ball hog his teammate trust him and won't him to score for there team and each MBA team has 1-3 people they rely on for scores so the MBA needs to cut him some slack .

    November 27, 2012 at 4:06 pm |
  169. Alex

I don't think he was a ball hog because everybody on his team was passing him the ball its not his fault

    November 27, 2012 at 4:07 pm |
  170. Susie

I think he was a star because every team has someone who is the one who shoots the most and one that plays best defense

    November 27, 2012 at 4:07 pm |
  171. Olivia

He is a basketball star! His team mates clearly wanted him to have the ball to make the shots! His team mates were giving the ball back to him after he passed it to them. He did a great job!

    November 27, 2012 at 4:07 pm |
  172. Jon

I think that he is a hero because his teammates gave him the ball he didn't tell them to give it to him and that's just how Grinnell college plays basketball, they like scoring a lot of points.

    November 27, 2012 at 4:07 pm |
  173. Grant

I think he's a hero it was his teams choice to give him the ball and he tried to pass it but his team tried to get it back to him and if you can get comments from NBA players he's got to be good

    November 27, 2012 at 4:07 pm |
  174. Boss

His team was willing to give him the ball

    November 27, 2012 at 4:07 pm |

He is not a ball hog. Hero 😀

    November 27, 2012 at 4:08 pm |
  176. Alyssa

He was defenetly not a ball hogger. His team gathered up and clearly said to pass him the ball. if he was a ball hog they wouldn't pass him the ball, but his team knew they needed the help of him and were being unselfish. They helped a teammate break a record.

    November 27, 2012 at 4:08 pm |

He is a hero he listened to his coaches and did his job!

I think he is a hero. The players gave the ball to him. He just shot it.

There's a fine line between setting a record and having good sportsmanship. It's one thing to set a record and have a really fun game but it's another thing to score endlessly on another team and show no mercy.

    November 27, 2012 at 4:11 pm |
  181. Marisol

I think he was a ball hog because if he had good sportsmanship he would of passed it back to one of his team mates, but I guess some of his team mates were jealous of him being a star and setting a good record in one whole game.

    November 27, 2012 at 4:11 pm |
  182. ed

He's a basketball hero because he won the game for the team.

    November 27, 2012 at 4:11 pm |
  183. jackson

He may have shot more than needed but his teamates gave him the ball and the chance.
that means they were cheering him on during the game.

I'm happy that they won but I think there should have been more team work.

    November 27, 2012 at 4:12 pm |

I think he is a hero! They had the choice to pass it to him or not and they made the choice to pass it to him so they could win there game! They made there choice.

    November 27, 2012 at 4:13 pm |
  188. Kelsie

I think that he is a basketball hero, not a ball hog! If he's team gave him the ball every time that they got the ball so he could shoot, doesn't mean that he is a ball hog. Don't be hating on him just cause he was trying to help his team win!

    November 27, 2012 at 4:14 pm |
  189. Dakota

How can he be a ball hog when his teamates TOLD him that they were going to get the ball to him? He was just a great player who wanted to do something for his team. If his coach told his teammates to give the ball to him, what can they do? Just because someone is good at something doesn't mean that something else is going on. Don't shine on the guys parade!

    November 27, 2012 at 4:14 pm |
  190. Rachel : )

I don't think he is a ball hog, since he claimed the ball was being passed to him. If he was being a ball hog then his teammates would not have passed him the ball. But they can't be called a team if only one person is taking the shots. The rest of the team should take more part in the game. Then maybe he wouldn't be accused of being a ball hog.

    November 27, 2012 at 4:15 pm |
  191. cody

I think he is a hero not a ball hog.

    November 27, 2012 at 4:15 pm |
  192. Kate

He is a basketball star! His coach might be the ball hog because his is the one that told the team to give it to Jack. It was a once and a lifetime thing and I think it is fine that they let him get the record. Who doesn't want to make history?

    November 27, 2012 at 4:15 pm |
  193. Markus

I think he was a Basketball Star, he may have started as a bit of a ball hog, but the team soon noticed that he was doing really good, and therefore as a team helped him to achieve this.

    November 27, 2012 at 4:15 pm |
  194. Desiree

I think he was a hero because not just any player could score that many points. It was a team effort to get him the ball each time and the rest of the team was ok with it.

    November 27, 2012 at 4:15 pm |
  195. Mason

    Hero.

    November 27, 2012 at 4:16 pm |
  196. Corvo

i think he is both. to shoot that much he would have to been a ball hog and at the same time to make half or more of the shots he took he would have to have been a sort of good player.

    November 27, 2012 at 4:16 pm |
  197. Alexandria

He's a hero k? Alright, people are obviously just jealous. He's really good at shooting, people say he's a ball-hog but the funny thing is that his teamates gave him the ball.... Mhmm..... Hero.!

    November 27, 2012 at 4:17 pm |
  198. Matthew

I believe that he is being a star. His team mates are helping beat a record and that them being unselfish. He is a star and if anyone on my team was breaking a record, I would help them out if possible.

    November 27, 2012 at 4:17 pm |
  199. connor

I my thoughts on the topic, depict that the Ball Hog or hero shall be decided by me and only me. I personally feel that I would have to watch the game in order to find out the real trueth. He might be one or the other, but has anyone thought about him being both? Personaly I think it was luck, if he was only averaging 20-23 points a game.

    November 27, 2012 at 4:18 pm |
  200. Christoni

I think he is BBstar because his teammates gave the ball to him. It would of been different if he kept the ball and his team mates didnt give it to him.

    November 27, 2012 at 4:20 pm |
  201. Isaac

I think he should have taken a few less shots because if he made all of his 3 pointers he would have gotten 213 points.

    November 27, 2012 at 4:20 pm |
  202. cassandra

he was not a ball hog he finally got the ball and people r putting him down for that

    November 27, 2012 at 4:21 pm |
  203. Tom

I've seen Grinnell play in person. They're high paced and really fun to watch. Their system calls for lots of shots; they just gave them all to him. He's a hero no doubt.

    November 27, 2012 at 4:21 pm |
  204. Logan

I think he is a basketball star. His team gave hime the ball, he had the skill and the support and he played his best. His team wanted him to have the ball. Just because he was making most of the points doesn't mean his team wasn't helping. They did there part too, even if it was just defence.

    November 27, 2012 at 4:21 pm |
  205. Claire

He is not a ball hog in my opinion, but in others yes he is. I also say that it does count, and that it should be in the record books Well haters are going to hate.

    November 27, 2012 at 4:22 pm |
  206. Christoni

I think He was a BBstar because his teammates choose him to shoot the ball.

    November 27, 2012 at 4:22 pm |
  207. Anna-Liv

I think he is a ball hog because he does not let anyone else shoot the ball into the basket. How would you feel if you were on Jack Taylor's team? You would feel like he is all important and you are not special at all! I would feel horrible. No one would care about anyone else on the team!

    November 27, 2012 at 4:23 pm |
  208. Kyla

Hero because his teammates gave him the ball and that ment they belived in him.

    November 27, 2012 at 4:25 pm |
  209. bobby :}

i think that he is a hero because like he said his team kept giving them the ball. Also people were cheering for him so why pass the ball. Last but not least his team was happy thats all that matters.

    November 27, 2012 at 4:27 pm |
  210. sabrinna

i think he wasn't a ball hog because he made the team win. Another reason why is because his team mates kept giving him the ball so he can take the shots. I think if he was a ball hog then the team mates would of never got the ball in the whole game and the coach would of called time out and told then guy to pass the ball.

    November 27, 2012 at 4:28 pm |
  211. Gavin

BBall Star! HIs teammates were encouraging him to shoot, and teamwork is awesome.

    November 27, 2012 at 4:28 pm |

Hero. He broke the record but a lot. His team mates helped him get there, therefore they wanted him to accomplish this. This team mates are part of the reason he achieved this new record.

    November 27, 2012 at 4:31 pm |
  215. kobe

I think he is a NBC Star! People who say he is a ball hog clearly didn't watch the video because he would pass to his teammates which had a wide open shot but refused to shoot any way. Is it just luck that he got those shots? I don't think so!
Jack also said he was a ball hog but that's only because no matter what he did they passed him the ball. GO JACK!

    November 27, 2012 at 4:31 pm |
  216. tyler

i think that he did good and that if his team kept passing him the ball then he isn't a ball hog. i think that if his team also kept on telling him to shoot the ball then he wast being a one man team or anything like that because they kept on telling him to shoot. if i was on that team i would keep telling him to shoot because he was on a roll with his shots.I'm not a good player at all but i would try if i kept getting told to shoot or even at least try to shot the ball. i don't agree with others that think he is a ball hog because he was trying to pass the ball to his team.

    November 27, 2012 at 4:31 pm |
  217. poly

He is not a ball hog at all. He is just a good player and Because of him he's team is up on the chart. I also think that he should be a team player so that his team can also get some in the basket.

    November 27, 2012 at 4:31 pm |
  218. phoebe

I think he is not a ball hog, and if he is he is doing it in a good way, because if his teammates thought he was, they wouldn't have kept giving him the ball. Even though basketball is a team sport, they were still playing like a team because they had a system of giving him the ball. He said that he tried to hand his teammates the ball, but they gave it right back to him so that means his teammates were fine with him hogging the ball (even though i think he was, he was doing it in a good way)

    November 27, 2012 at 4:32 pm |
  219. chazz

He's a hero. Thanks to him his college basketball team won the game. They gave him the ball because they knew he would cause them to win.

    November 27, 2012 at 4:32 pm |
  220. marquise

I think he is a hero because his teammates saw that he was having a good shooting night and keep encouraging him to score and whenever someone in basketball is having a good game, coaches, fans, and his teammates are going to be supporting it.

    November 27, 2012 at 4:33 pm |
  221. Jazmyne

I think that he was right, and that he and his teammates were the true basketball superstars.

I think he is a bbal star because he helped his team also his team players passed him the ball so he is not selfish.

I think he is a ball hog but in a good way by getting the team a win and Great gob on getting a record of 138pt a game

    November 27, 2012 at 4:45 pm |

His team players passed him the ball he is a bball star

i think Jack Taylor is a hero for making that many hoops because nobody that i know has ever made that many hoops.I would be impressed if more people in basketball made hoops like Jack Taylor. Keep on moving Jack!!!

    November 27, 2012 at 4:47 pm |
  226. Javazyera

I don't think he ia a ball hog.... He was trying to help his team win and people were encouraging him to shoot so he jus took it away and scored them points....

  227. diana

I think that he is a hero because this guy is an awesome but on one day i would like to be like him and shoot as many as I can !

    November 27, 2012 at 4:51 pm |
  228. Faith

he deserves the glory his team mates passed him the ball so why should he be called a hog but on the other hand he did not say TEAM because it was a team cooperation

    November 27, 2012 at 4:53 pm |
  229. Kayla

I think that you ever say that Jack is a ball hog is wrong. He could help his team get into the championship;also his teammates kept passing the ball to him.If he said he's a ball hog doesn't really mean much, maybe he just likes to have the ball all time or in one game he hogged the ball.

    November 27, 2012 at 4:53 pm |
  230. Michael

I think that he did hog the ball, but if his teammates encouraged him, then I think it's okay.

    November 27, 2012 at 4:58 pm |
  231. Franz

While he may have been given the ball a lot, shooting 138 points in basketball is hard to do no matter what! He definitely deserved that record.

    November 27, 2012 at 4:59 pm |
  232. Percy

I think he was a hero because he didn't exactly hog the ball on purpose. His own teamates kept giving him the ball.he even said he tried to give the ball to other players , but apparently they didnt want it as much, because they kept giving it backto him.So they seemed okay with it to me.If they want him to do it than he should. You know you should never walk passed a door God has opened for you!

    November 27, 2012 at 4:59 pm |
  233. skylar

no because they were giving it to him just like he said and they did not care

    November 27, 2012 at 5:00 pm |

Ball hero! He did not have to make the shots, if the team passed the ball, how can he be a hog?

    November 27, 2012 at 5:03 pm |
  235. Natasha

I don't think he's a ball hog. As he said in the video, his team was giving the ball to him and encouraging him too shot more baskets. I think he's a basketball hero.

    November 27, 2012 at 5:05 pm |
  236. Emily

I totally think he was a hero... His team mates encouraged him to continue shooting... If you can break a record or accomplish a goal you should go for it!

    November 27, 2012 at 5:12 pm |
  237. Julian

I think he is both because he hogged the ball so that he can get the record but he was a hero because his team won and he made the team well known by breaking the record.

    November 27, 2012 at 5:12 pm |
  238. grace

He's a complet ball hog that's only way he could make that many baskets I should know I play basketball

    November 27, 2012 at 5:14 pm |

He may have said he was a ball hog, but I think that was pretty awesome that he can play ball like that. So I say he is my hero.

    November 27, 2012 at 5:15 pm |
  240. Thien

I think he is not a ball hog because his teammates gave the ball to him, he really did not hog the ball.

    November 27, 2012 at 5:15 pm |
  241. Abram

I think that Jack was a Basket Ball Hero because they wanted to pass him the ball. He couldn't have scored without his team effort.

    November 27, 2012 at 5:16 pm |
  242. Trevor

I think he was a basketball star. I play the sport so I know that if your team gives you the ball every time its for a reason.

    November 27, 2012 at 5:24 pm |
  243. kaprise

duh a hero! since his teammates were awesome enough to notice him doing well and since they gave him the ball he is not a ball hog!

If the coach tells u to pass it to the kid do it his teammates wanted him to get the record. He said he was a little ball hog not a lot would u like it if people help u to get a record if so that just happen

    November 27, 2012 at 5:28 pm |
  247. Austin

Hero. It take a HUGE amount of skill to make that many points in such a small amount of time and besides his team wanted him to break the record and played great defense to help him acheieve the record.

    November 27, 2012 at 5:30 pm |
  248. Caleb

I think he was a hero because when he would pass a ball to a teammate they would throw it right back. I mean if your close to a record go for it and break it!

    November 27, 2012 at 5:30 pm |
  249. Emma

I don't think that he was a ball hog because his coach told the other kids on the team to give him the ball so that is exactly what he did. Not a ball hog!

    November 27, 2012 at 5:33 pm |
  250. Nicole

I think he isn't a ball hog, if anything he is a hero. My reason for thinking that is because his teammates klnew he was shooting well that day and passed him the ball. It was a team effort.

    November 27, 2012 at 5:35 pm |
  251. Mandyy

Even if he is a ball hog, he still had the skills and talent to score over one hundred points in his game. He didn't take full credit for it either, he thanked his teammates and even admitted that they were the ones who gave him courage.
If he had no skills, even as a ball hog, he couldn't had gotten such a high record.

    November 27, 2012 at 5:37 pm |
  252. Clara

His team kept passing to him, what do you think he's going to do? Besides, the team won, and one of its players broke a record. It's a team sport! I say he's a Basketball Star!!!!!!!

I don't know why he would be a ball hog he was just doing what his team mates wanted him to do. If they didn't like it they would not have passed him the ball. He is so a bball star!!

    November 27, 2012 at 5:47 pm |
  256. Jasmin

I think that Jack Taylor is a bball star because he worked hard so his team let him have th ball all because he was a good player. Plus his team wasn't selfish.

    November 27, 2012 at 5:47 pm |
  257. Elizabeth

He is a hero because he set a record! That's just like saying somebody who wins the Olympics is not giving others a chance. It's a competition! In basketball your competing. He even said his coach wanted his teammates to pass it to him because he was doing so well. We need to stop being so critical of others and accept and support them and their accomplishments.

    November 27, 2012 at 5:49 pm |
  258. Kyle

Well i think he was a hero because obviously if he was such a ball hog his team wouldnt have gave him the ball and the only reason they gave him the ball because they knew he could make it and they trusted him to win it for them.

    November 27, 2012 at 5:49 pm |
  259. Madison

A basketball star that is a swell for a shoat. He was being passed the ball, not tacking it or keeping the ball.;)

    November 27, 2012 at 5:50 pm |
  260. Ash

I'm going to have to say a hero, despise what other people are saying, if his teammates passed him the ball, and he shot a basket or two with it...
    Is that so wrong??

    November 27, 2012 at 5:51 pm |
  261. lesly

I say that he was a ball star because he was giving the ball to its teammates but they just pass it back to him.

Jack Taylor is definitely a basketball hero. He earned himself the record and it's not his fault if his teammates were passing to him , after all he was doing an amazing job.It someone has lots of talent and ability to do something great that doesn't mean that whenever their doing it their showing off or trying to hog something, it just means that they are doing their best! Jack Taylor is an amazing basketball player and did a great job in that game.

    November 27, 2012 at 5:56 pm |
  265. ryan

To me he isn't a hero because the other team had no defense. If he played a team that had a defense and scored 138 then that would be amazing.

    November 27, 2012 at 5:58 pm |
  266. lauryn

i think he was a basket ball star because when he tried sharing the ball they keep throwing it back because they thought he was going to help them win

    November 27, 2012 at 6:01 pm |
  267. Axel

I think that Jack Taylor wasn't being a ball hog, but he was being a hero. In the Student News from Tuesday, he even said, "I think that it was a once in a lifetime thing that happened. Coming into the game, I knew I was going to more shots than usual, but I definitely hit more shots than I thought I would. And at halftime when I had 58, my team and coaches kinda gathered around me and would get me the ball every time down the floor." but since his teammates and coaches said this, he wasn't really being a ball hog because every time he passed I off, they would try to get it right back to him.

I know how it feels to have everybody give you the ball because they know you're good. He probably couldn't do anything about it. But, I can see why he can look like a ball hogger. 138 points is an unbelievable score and it was probably only him who got the ball to shoot.

    November 27, 2012 at 6:04 pm |
  269. Austin

I know that the team was passing it to him when he passed it to them but he could at least have done the right thing and said something at the timeouts declaring that he wants this to be a team effort and thats why he was passing the ball to them. So I am kinda half and half on wether he is a ball hog or not

    November 27, 2012 at 6:05 pm |
  270. Chris

I think that he is not a ball hog, he is a ball hero because everyone gave him the basket ball to him to make him have a good feeling about making more points.I also think everyone is a hero because everyone achived a goal ,and probally that was Jack taylor's goal

    November 27, 2012 at 6:06 pm |
  271. Tina

i think a little of both maybe some of his teamates wanted him to have he ball butother may have wanted it instead. Either way thats pretty cool. 🙂

  272. Emilee

I think he's a basketball hero! It's amazing that he can score that many points in one game! I also think it's cool that his teammates had so much faith in him! 😀

I'm on a basketball team and we do have a couple ball hogs, but if we had some one who scored as many as he did every one would feed him the ball like he hasn't eaten in a week!

    November 27, 2012 at 6:15 pm |
  275. Katherine

I totally think he was a hero. Who would not be a hero if Michael Jordan and Kobe Bryant tweeted about his success? I tots think he is a basketball star.

    November 27, 2012 at 6:16 pm |
  276. Rebekah

he is totally a hero. cause his teammates pass him the ball all the time, cause he his a awesome basketball player! he is a hero because he has faith in himself that he can do it. the thing that i do not believe is that he score 138 points in a just a day. so is totally a hero!

    November 27, 2012 at 6:17 pm |
  277. Thoro

    I Think he's a hero because he's awesome.

    November 27, 2012 at 6:18 pm |
  278. Derek

He is a basketball star. His teammates pass his the ball so he can beat the record. He is good for 138 points. I can't make that many points.

    November 27, 2012 at 6:18 pm |
  279. Ace

He is a hero because if you can score like that and if there aren't people open, you need to shoot or else you're team can very well lose and disappoint their fans.

    November 27, 2012 at 6:19 pm |
  280. Christian

I think he is a basketball star. Once he started scoring about 20-30 points in the first half, his teammates started to pass it to him. They thought he could score a lot more points if they passed to him more. I think they had a lot of faith in him.

    November 27, 2012 at 6:19 pm |
  281. Sady

I think if someone is hot you need to get them the ball. It was the team's decision to do that.

    November 27, 2012 at 6:21 pm |

Hero!!! He is yet to be next in the NBA to be a Hoops Star!

    November 27, 2012 at 6:22 pm |
  283. Christian

I think he is a hero. When he scored so many points in the first half, his teammates passed to him more. His teammates CHOSE to give the ball to him, therefore he isn't a ball-hog.

    November 27, 2012 at 6:29 pm |
  284. Cole

I think Jack Taylor is a huge hero, because right now he is one of the most known basketball player and he is only in college. Jack tried to give his other teammates a chance to handle the ball but they just passed it back to him to try to help him. So even though he had the ball a lot, it was mostly because his teammates wanted to help him.

    November 27, 2012 at 6:30 pm |
  285. Chantel

To be in Jack's position would be tough. To break the record and MAKE that many shots on his own is amazing. On the flip side he looks like a ball hog. In my opinion if the opportunity was available to break the record I say go for it! The fact that he passed to his teammates and yet they passed back shows that he was concerned about his team. Plus the coach gave the thumbs up and any smart athlete would listen to his or her coach.

He is a good basketball player, but things like this just ruins the integrity of the game.

    November 27, 2012 at 6:31 pm |
  288. Brenna

I don't think he is a Ball-Hog. His Teammates WILLINGLY gave him the ball. People shouldn't JUDGE that he was a Ball-Hog just because he broke the record. This is SPECIAL!:) And does anybody find it odd that the record is higher in COLLEGE Basketball, the the NBA?

    November 27, 2012 at 6:31 pm |
  289. Kelsey

I feel he was a little of both. He had the ball a lot so that makes him a ball hog. Then he was a hero when he scored so many points. Overall Jack Taylor is a hog and a hero.

    November 27, 2012 at 6:32 pm |
  290. Coolin

I don't think he is a Ball-Hog. His Teammates Willingly gave him the ball. People shouldn't call him a Ball-Hog just because he broke the record. This is Cool!:) Go JACK!

I think he was a ball hog at first. But when his friends started passing the ball to him, he became a hero.

    November 27, 2012 at 6:34 pm |
  292. Wesley

Even if he was a ball hog, it doesn't matter. He won the game and got a record title, and if his teammates are upset they can ask themselves how many people can say that they were on that team during that game.

    November 27, 2012 at 6:35 pm |
  293. anesu

He was a bball star because his team gave him back the ball when he pass the ball so just bball star is good

    November 27, 2012 at 6:38 pm |
  294. DeAunte

He is most definitely not a ball hog. He said that the team agreed to give him the ball for the rest of the second half because he already had 50 and up points. He is really a basketball hero

I think he wass a basketball hero! If his team members were passing the ball back, they must of liked all of the points from him scoring.

    November 27, 2012 at 6:43 pm |
  297. Ashlyne

He is most definitely not a bog hog. Like he said in the interview, the team passed him the ball. He wasn't hogging the ball the whole game. I think he should be recognized for his significance.

    November 27, 2012 at 6:43 pm |
  298. Kristen

Well I think Jack Taylor is a hero because hie team was willing to give him the ball he wasn't trying to steal the ball from his team. He also had a once in a life time oprtonity to score 138 points in one game. I remember that Jack Taylor scored 58 points in only the first half. Overall I feel tha Jack Taylor is a hero. Jack Taylor is a great awsome basketball player. He rocks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    November 27, 2012 at 6:44 pm |
  299. ido

i think he is a hero because his team mates passed him the ball without out hesitation and it was only 1 game. as he said he usually only makes about 30 points a game

I think that he was a basketball hero. It was just one of his good days. People should be glad that he was able to have that once in a lifetime experience.

I think he was a hero . He was just having a really good day, and was able to have an amazing once and a lifetime experience! He was just having fun and so was his team.

His teammates were giving him the ball, therefore, he is not a ball hog.

    November 27, 2012 at 8:11 pm |

I personally don't think he's a ball hog. The critics said he was. 138 points is more than ANYONE in the NBA has ever scored I think that if he could go for a record I say go for it, if you don't get it, what did you have to loose.

    November 27, 2012 at 8:12 pm |
  308. Maddilyn

I think he is a hero.If he can shoot 138 points in one game, he should be recognized.

  309. Megan

I do think he was a ball hog, but atleast he admitted it. Granted, he is very talented, but for it to be a truely amazing feat, his team mates shouldn't have tried to keep giving him the ball and should have let the game go on naturally.

    November 27, 2012 at 8:19 pm |
  310. Annie

I think he's a hero, only because his teammates were encouraging him to break the old record. If his team didn't want him to score so much and he did he would be a ball hog.

    November 27, 2012 at 8:22 pm |
  311. Ethan

I think he was a hero. His whole team was giving him the ball so he shot! If he can score the record, all the better for him. In my opinion, he was just doing what his team wanted him to. Evidently, he tried to pass it to them, but they just passed it right back to him! I don't know how anyone would find any excuse to label him a ball hog.

    November 27, 2012 at 8:25 pm |
  312. Sebastian

I think he would be a basketball star, if your doing it to brake a record then I say do it and his teammates even passed the ball to him so that means they had confidence in him so he is a basketball star in reality.

    November 27, 2012 at 8:29 pm |
  313. Rayan

He is definitely not a ball hog because his teammates decided to give him the ball, and when he passes to them, they just pass it back

    November 27, 2012 at 8:29 pm |
  314. Maddie

To say that Taylor didn't earn the record by himself and therefore doesn't deserve it is like saying that any pitcher who threw a no-hitter didn't do it himself because he had players in the field.

    November 27, 2012 at 8:35 pm |
  315. Katie

I think that if your whole them encouraged a teammate to shoot every time he got the ball, then it was a team effort. He shouldn't be considered a ball hog if his coach was telling the team to give him the ball, he was doing what he was told. And he broke a record doing it. I'd be stoked.

    November 27, 2012 at 8:39 pm |
  316. Holli

Just the fact that he could admit that he is a ball hog means that he isn't one. He even said it himself that it was teammates that kept giving him the ball, but just because his shots were falling, not because he forced them or told them to.

    November 27, 2012 at 8:41 pm |
  317. Ben

I dont think he was a ball hog at all. At first when he made it over 50 points in the first half, that might have made him seam like a ball hog. After half, his teammates knew that he was on fire and knew if they gave him the ball, he would help them win the game. As they kept giving him the ball, he was making the shots. He was making almost all of them. During the game or even at half time, im sure that him and his teammates had discussed that he may hit a record on points scored in a game. He was already this far at half and they knew he could break that record. So his teamates help get him the ball and soon he had broken the record. So no, I dont think he was a ball hog.

    November 27, 2012 at 8:41 pm |
  318. Mollie

There is no way Jack is a ball hog because his coaches told him to just keep shooting, and his teammates always passed him the ball. He is now a basketball legend!!!

    November 27, 2012 at 8:42 pm |
  319. Courtney

    November 27, 2012 at 8:45 pm |
  321. becca

honestly. i couldnt do that. his teamates gave him the ball because they knew he could make the shot. if u just broke a recoed and someone came along and said you didnt do it ,would you be mad?

  322. Amy

He is good. But I still think Michel Jorden could take him on.

    November 27, 2012 at 8:48 pm |
  323. Jaleyah

He wasn't a ball hog. Just because he got the ball a lot of time doesn't mean he hogged the ball. His teammates just gave it to him an it was impressive how many points he got.

    November 27, 2012 at 8:48 pm |
  324. Holli

He is most definitely NOT a ball hog. He was really lucky during that game, and the coach and his teammates realized that his lucky shots would be their best chance of winning the game, so they gave the ball to him a lot. It wasn't Jack's fault that his teammates gave him the ball so much. People who say anything against are probably just jealous!!

    November 27, 2012 at 8:48 pm |
  325. Stacey

My definition of a ball hog is someone who keeps the ball to themselves the whole game, without giving their teammates a chance. Jack Taylor offered his teammates many chances to take the ball, and they basically would not take the opportunities. I don't think Jack Taylor was really hogging the ball.

    November 27, 2012 at 8:49 pm |
  326. Lily

He's not a ball hog in any way at all. He did what he thought was best. So in my world he's a hero.

    November 27, 2012 at 8:51 pm |
  327. Sathya

Isn't it in the interest of the team anyway to pass the ball to him?

    November 27, 2012 at 8:51 pm |
  328. Holli

He's just trying his hardest. Because he admitted that he was a ball hog means that he wasn't doing it purposely. It was his teammates decision, Jack just went along with it, and this helped him win a game and break a record! Everyone needs to remember that it was his teammates that were the cause of him keeping the ball and shooting a lot. It wasn't only his doing.

    November 27, 2012 at 8:52 pm |
  329. Mossy

I think that he is a ball hog. I think that he does not deserve to have the world record because he didn't break the record on his own. It was more of a team effort, than him doing it himself.

    November 27, 2012 at 8:52 pm |
  330. Sathya

Isn't it in the interest of the team to pass the ball to him anyway?

    November 27, 2012 at 8:53 pm |
  331. Amanda

Jack Taylor was actually trying to give his teammates a chance to play, but they just passed the ball back. In my opinion, he was definitely not hogging the ball.

    November 27, 2012 at 8:53 pm |
  332. Amanda

He tried giving his teammates a chance to play, and they just passed the ball back to him. I don't consider that "hogging" the ball.

    November 27, 2012 at 8:54 pm |
  333. Courtney

I would say he is a hero becuase not only did he get the college record, he explained to everyone it was not entirely his choice to get the ball so many times. He explained that it was his team's idea to give him the ball because he was doing so well they knew they could rely on him, and if he were to mess up they most likely would have given him the ball less.

    November 27, 2012 at 8:55 pm |
  334. Emma

I absolutely disagree that Jack was a ball hog.His team deliberately passed him the ball. The team and coach wanted him to have the ball.Jack did what everyone told him to do.

    November 27, 2012 at 8:55 pm |
  335. sal

I think that he was hogging the ball but his teamates were giving it to him even though he was trying to pass it to them. I think he couldn't get rid of the ball and had no choice but to shoot or get the ball passed right back to him.

    November 27, 2012 at 8:57 pm |
  336. Dean

I think that he should be a hero. His acts were for the most part unprecidented and heshoukd be rewarded for doing his actions not shunned by people who thought otherwise

    November 27, 2012 at 8:57 pm |
  337. Berry

He is definitely a hero because he had the guts to try. He seems like a sweet guy, so if he thought he couldn't do it, he would've given the ball to his teammates instead of keeping it to himself. I'm sure that his teammates were the ones that pushed him to do what he did. Along with the coach. Great job you guys!!!

I think that Jack was simply geting hot and staying hot, his teammates recognized it and took advantage of it. He passed it to and well his teammates just kept him going.

    November 27, 2012 at 9:01 pm |
  340. Andrew

i believe he was a ball hog, it doesn't matter if you're coach and you're teammates decide to just give you the ball, also it was unsportsman like to beat a team by 75...i guess desperate measures come and go when you play DIII

    November 27, 2012 at 9:02 pm |
  341. Madison

Jack Taylor is a basketball star not a ball hog if he passes the ball to someone and they pass it right back then his team is supporting him 100% so in my opinion no one can call him a ball hog it's not his fault if his team passes him the ball over and over

    November 27, 2012 at 9:04 pm |
  342. Logan

I think that Jack wasn't being a ball hog because he still tried to pass the ball back to his team.

Maybe I dont play basketball, but he is a hero. his teamates incouraged him and kept passing it to him so he could make a point. you can call it hogging but i call it strategy.

i kind of think he's a ball hog but the video says that the coach told his teammates to pass him the ball. The video said that he would pass to his teammates but thay would pass back, and he also won the game, so he is so not a ball hog.

    November 27, 2012 at 9:12 pm |
  349. Ben

He is both because not everyone might have wanted to pass to him, but he did give credit to everyone on his team even though he is the one that made the points therefor he is a star and a ball hog at some angles that you look at it.

    November 27, 2012 at 9:14 pm |
  350. Kira-Ann

the ability to be selfless enough as a TEAM to play its strengths without jealousy is really the definition of a team.To be able to combine everyone's individual strengths and weave them into a structure and make a game plan is a sign of great teamwork. Both Jack and his team members should be proud of themselves, it was really amazing of them to pass him the ball every time so selflessly for the sake of there game. Jack Taylor is ball hero and thats that.

    November 27, 2012 at 9:15 pm |
  351. Scarlett

I think he is a ball hog. Although he did an amazing job, his whole team deserves credit. They were the ones who passed him the ball after all.

    November 27, 2012 at 9:18 pm |

It overal depends on his team. Since his team had worked so hard to pass him the ball, Jack is a ball hero because his teammates had wanted Jack to make the points, and it is difficult to let you're team down.

    November 27, 2012 at 9:20 pm |
  355. Ben

He is a ball hog because he always got the ball and never gave anyone else a chance.

Even though Jack had a great game, I hardly think he is a hero. If not for his team, those shots wouldn't have been made. I think he is at least a little bit of a ball hog.

I watched most of the game. In my opinion, Jack showed a really good result. He is not a ball hog because other guys from his team tried to get some points, too. So he didn`t have ball all the time. He is a cool player!

I think Taylor was a hero and not just any hero but a Basketball hero and just like the other posts said he was winning the game for his team not to be just a ball hog. In conclusion, Taylor to me is considered a hero and for him to keep up the good work as a basketball player.

If he can score 138 points I think that is past of what Kobe, lebron could do. He might have been a ball hog but he has still broken the record so I would give him credit, even though he teammates didn't shoot very much. I think that's not right for ESPN to say that about him just because his team did not really score and that he shot so many shots,I say a record is a record.

    November 27, 2012 at 9:31 pm |
  363. Cassidy

I dont think that Jack is a ball hog. He went for a record and accomplished it. His teammates helped him by letting him be a "ball hog" so he can have a better chance at breaking the record. i think he did good job!

    November 27, 2012 at 9:41 pm |
  364. Jacob

Jack Taylor is a hero. I believe the previous record was 113 and at the half Jack had 58 points. So, even if he got the ball just as much he would have broken the record. His willing teammates gave him the ball to facilitate the win and breaking of the previous record. Also, he even passed the ball to his teammates and they gave the ball right back, so we can't really call him too much of a ball hog if he was forced to have it. All in all, congratulation Jack Taylor on your new record.

I believe his performance was very selfish. But his team did want him to get the record therefor it was an outstanding performance.

A hero because he broke the the great "Michael Jordan's" record wow what a boss!

    November 27, 2012 at 9:55 pm |
  367. Allie

Jack Taylor in my opinion was a hero! In the interview shared, he did not seem like he was trying to be a selfish ball hog what so ever! His team made a group decision to try to beat this record. He was just making baskets left and right because he is just that good! Jack Taylor deserved to beat this record and did if without being selfish.

He was a Basketball Star he scored 138 points that's a once in a life time chance. I watched that game & all the other players kept passing it back to him the players so that he was on fire & he was.

    November 27, 2012 at 9:59 pm |
  369. Erin

Since his team was giving him the ball every time I would call him a basketball star

HERO!!! that kid is a beast 138 points unstoppabl

He's not a ball hog he's just doing what he has to do.

I think he is kind of both because all he was doing was dishing it off

    November 27, 2012 at 10:04 pm |
  373. Cassidy

He is a total hero. He shouldn' care what others say about him, he should feel proud that he can make that many baskets and his teammates should support him to improve more.

    November 27, 2012 at 10:10 pm |
  374. Jorie

I think he was a star! It just shows how much his team knows and trusts him! They made it a team effort and it won them the game because of it!

    November 27, 2012 at 10:32 pm |
  375. Katie

I think he is a great athlete and he tried to give his teammates the ball but they kept giving him the ball back and telling him to shoot. He was just on fire that night and his team took it and ran with it!

    November 27, 2012 at 10:36 pm |
  376. Joe

Personally, if he attempted to give the ball back to his teammates, and they gave the ball back, he's not being a ball hog. In my eyes, he was just being fair.

    November 27, 2012 at 10:41 pm |
  377. Kevin

Definitely a b-ball star. He couldn't have done it if he didn't have the ball, and there was no way for him to get the ball that often in a single game, especially if his teammates were purposely trying to keep it away from him. So his teammates must have deliberately passed it to him to help him reach stardom.

    November 27, 2012 at 10:41 pm |
  378. grace

I think that he is a ball hog because its not fair to the team if he takes all the glory. I would not like being the stay back and let him get the score.

    November 27, 2012 at 10:50 pm |
  379. Samantha

Jack maybe a ball hog, but that doesn't mean a bad thing. It's not like he didn't try to give his team mates a chance. It's more like his team gave him a chance. That's how people get into the big leagues; by taking the chance and the shot. His team is getting part of the fame too. Since Jack is on the team then the team will get the fame too.

    November 27, 2012 at 10:51 pm |
  380. Junior

he's a hero because, the whole team kept on passing it to him.So, if he gets the ball he gonna score that's how he got those points.

  381. christina

I don't think he is a ball hog cause he said during half time they decided to go for the record and they were just trying to win

    Dear Carl,
Well first i have to say i love CNN student news watch it every morning in 1st hour
I think Jack Taylor was a hero. Even though he Gets all the glory it was really a group
Effort Jack said so. He holds a record now lets all be HAPPY for him! 🙂

    November 27, 2012 at 11:14 pm |
  383. Brendon

I think he is a hero. You can call him a ball hog but how did he get the ball in the first place? He was passed to which gives him the right to shoot the basketball. Im pleanty sure that his teamates were way more happy having him making all thoses baskets than him missing them, dont you think?

    November 27, 2012 at 11:22 pm |
  384. Jorge

I don't believe Jack Tyalor was a ball hog. He was on fire and his teammates new this so why not just pass the ball to him to win the game?! People who criticized him of being a ball hog should really look more into the story than to just give their opinions without knowing the whole story.

    November 27, 2012 at 11:25 pm |
  385. Jenna

I do not feel he is a ball hog. His teammates had to play a part in it, when they would get a pass and pass it right back to him. He is not selfish and it seems that the teammates were supporting him all the way. Maybe someone should interview a teammate of his to see his point of view before assuming things. As a basketball player I know that one of your teammates can be on with her shots one night so we always try to feed the ball to her. That is why you have a team, they support what you do and back you up. After all isn't there no "i" in team!

    November 27, 2012 at 11:57 pm |

He is totally not a ball hog. his teammates tried to get him the ball as much as they could so he could shoot all those points.
    A total hero!

I think he is a hero because if a pro can't make 138 points and a high schooler can that's a big accomplishment and should be treated with respect

I think he is a good player because he passed the ball and they passed it back to him so he shot and he made it so I think he is a good player.

    November 28, 2012 at 8:42 am |

    November 28, 2012 at 8:59 am |

He is a hero he passed it to his teamates but they would give it back

    November 28, 2012 at 9:01 am |
  399. Annalea

If it was a regular game, I would think he was a ball hog. However, his team made the choice to give the ball to him. That's what the team wanted.

    November 28, 2012 at 9:09 am |
  400. Joey

I think he’s a ball hog, even tho his teammates kept passing him the ball it doesn't mean that he should shoot the ball. If you’re leading with more than 40 points then the least you could do is pass the ball and share the glory. As you can see in the video the opposing team just gave up stopping him. They were just standing there waiting for him to pass to his teammate but never does. If he was a basketball star he would help set his team up for some shoots.

    November 28, 2012 at 9:23 am |
  401. Audrey

I don't think he is a ball hog because his team mates where passing the ball to him he wasn't keeping the ball for himself if he needed someone to pass to he would! Also in any basketball game if you had the hoop open i think you would shoot, he might of just had that opportunity and got lucky so many times!

    November 28, 2012 at 9:43 am |
  402. Tanner

He is not a ball Hog

    November 28, 2012 at 9:48 am |
  403. Mariya

In my opinion he was a basketball star in that game thus I could not cal him "a ball hog". First of all, it was amazing that he saw the drawbacks of his rivals and used that chance to score. Moreover, his teammates supported him and believed that he would successfully finish their passes. In that case, we should not accuse Jack but mostly look at the rival's team and their coach who did not take any measures to reverse the game. All in all, I can say for sure that Jack Taylor spends a lot of time practicing to acquire these skills and he has used them in the best ways in that match.

    November 28, 2012 at 9:51 am |
  404. Travis

I think he is a basketball star because his teammates passed it right back to him after he passed it to him and people in the NBA barely make that much points.

    November 28, 2012 at 9:54 am |
  405. Eric

I don't think that Taylor is a ball hog. He is a basketball star because his whole team was encouraging him to get the record. If he was a ball hog his teammates would call for a pass to them instead of giving Taylor the ball to shoot.

    November 28, 2012 at 10:06 am |
  406. Josh

I think he is a ballhog!!! Why should we declare him a star, when he's in D3? If he was so good, he would be in a D1 school. He took 71 threes, and he missed lots of shots, it's not like he made every shot, he missed many too.

    November 28, 2012 at 10:07 am |
  407. Brady

He is not a ball hog he is basketball star

    November 28, 2012 at 10:31 am |
  408. Paul

I think he is a BALL HOG, he wasn't even efficient 52 of 108 is not good, it is less than 50%. People try to compare him to Wilt Chamberlain, but he didn't even shoot as well from the free throw line 7/10 to 28/32, big difference. This guy should not have taken over 50 shots to get that many points and 71 3's ?!?!?!?!?! Really?? Teams as a whole don't take 108 shots or 71 3's this man doesn't understand basketball.

    November 28, 2012 at 11:00 am |
  409. Paul

BALL HOG!!! 108 SHOTS?? WIlt Chamberlain took half of that almost scored that many. This was simply a display of selfishness and unsportsman-like conduct

    November 28, 2012 at 11:03 am |
  410. Grant

He was helping out his team and it was the coach's decision to give the ball to him every time. If there is anybody to blame it's the coach.

be humble and pass the ball more

    November 28, 2012 at 12:11 pm |
  414. Maddie

I think that he is a basketball hero, as Carl said it. His team helped support him and allowed him to get the record. In my opinion it was a team effort. His team wanted him to get the record and encouraged him to do so. Without them passing him the ball, he could not have even come close to the record. If his teammates were not supportive of him getting this record, they would not have passed him the ball.

    November 28, 2012 at 12:29 pm |
  415. Belqeese

He just wants to win and the team seems to trust him and they weren't mad that he was taking one for the team.

    November 28, 2012 at 12:41 pm |
  416. Velvet

He is a basketball star because his teammates probably wanted him to make baskets because he is a good player. You never know

    November 28, 2012 at 12:52 pm |
  417. Justin

I do not agree cause you are trying to help your team to win if teammate does not help each other out your team will not win the game but if you help your teammates out and win than your team will be happy

i think ball hog over 100 points is more than most teans make in a game

    November 28, 2012 at 1:08 pm |

well if his team mates passed it to him over and over then he wasnt being a ball hog

    November 28, 2012 at 2:03 pm |
  420. Kathryn

i think he is not a ball hog i think this because all of his teamates keep passing him the ball so i think he is a basketball hero. He has a right to get the ball if he is the best shooter and theey want to win the game 🙂

    November 28, 2012 at 2:03 pm |
  421. Trent

definatly a hero because his team was giving him the ball. his team wanted him to break the record, and that dosent make him a ball hog

    November 28, 2012 at 2:03 pm |
  422. Morgan

I don't think that's being a ball hog, being a ball hog is taking the ball all the time without anyone wanting you to. In this case, everyone on his team was cheering him on and telling him too.

    November 28, 2012 at 2:03 pm |
  423. Lucas

I don't think he was being a ball hog because his teammates were giving him the ball and telling him to shoot. They wouldn't shoot the ball themselves.

    November 28, 2012 at 2:03 pm |
  424. Jackson

He is only a ball hog if he is not being passed the ball intentionaly. Also he had an amazing preformance so it did not really affect the outcome of the game

    November 28, 2012 at 2:03 pm |
  425. Marla

I think that Jack is a hero, and a role model. His teamates were the ones passing the ball to him, so i feel that he is not a ball hog.

    November 28, 2012 at 2:03 pm |

hes a hero because he won them the game and he wanted to set a record for college basket

i thnk that jack taylor is not a ball hog because his teammates were paassing him the ball and the coach and the team told him that they were going to pass to him so they were ok with it he also did a good thing for the team so no he is not a ball hog

    November 28, 2012 at 2:04 pm |

He is a boss! Anyone who could break a NBA record in college is a BOSS!! Anyone who wants to call him a ball hog is just hating because they didn't score that many points. Good job! Future NBA Hall of Famer!

    November 28, 2012 at 2:04 pm |

    November 28, 2012 at 2:04 pm |
  433. Liam

I think he was a hero because he tryed to pass to his teammates but they kept on passing it back and to get that many points in one game is amazing. Even if you were a ball hog no one would pass to you so his teammates thought of him as a hero.

    November 28, 2012 at 2:05 pm |
  434. Sam

Yes, I think he is a ballhog. Even in the first half no one can score 58 points while still passing the ball to his team mates even a little bit (except for Kobe Bryant).

    November 28, 2012 at 2:06 pm |
  435. Liam

He is a hero because he tryed to pass to his teammates but they kept on passing it back.

Jack Taylor claims that he passed to his team mates but the just passed back. I'd say he was a hero who just had alot of help from his team.

    November 28, 2012 at 2:07 pm |
  438. Kathleen

He is definitely a basketball star, his teammates are voluntarily passing him the ball. Had he been stealing the ball and refusing to share, he would definitely be a ballhog.

    November 28, 2012 at 2:07 pm |
  439. Colin

I think he's a hero because if he would pass it to a teammate and they would pass it right back that's not his fault and for that he shouldn't be called instead "a ball hog"

    November 28, 2012 at 2:08 pm |
  440. Justin

In my opinion i think Jack Taylor is a hero because he said it himself he tried passing to other memebers of his team but they always passed it back to him to score. So i don't think that he is a ballhog at all.

    November 28, 2012 at 2:10 pm |
  441. Leah

Well I think Jack Taylor is a hero because his team was willing to give him the ball he wasn't trying to steal the ball from his team. He also had a once in a life time oprtonity to score 138 points in one game. I remember that Jack Taylor scored 58 points in only the first half. Overall I feel that Jack Taylor is a hero.

    November 28, 2012 at 2:15 pm |
  442. jonus

i think he isnot a hero because his team mats purpusly pased it to him.

    November 28, 2012 at 2:15 pm |
  443. Runa

i think he is both a ball hog and a star. most people can not shoot so many baskets in one game but he should have passed it a bit more. if he's the only one scoring baskets it may cause the rest of the team to lose their confedince in their abilities to play.

    November 28, 2012 at 2:22 pm |
  444. Jessica

I think that he was doing what anybody else would have done......He was just trying to achieve his goal and that is important....wouldn't you be upset if people were complaining about you achieving your goal.........it's not like it was his idea.......every teammate agreed to help him.......the teammates didn't have to pass him the ball but they did because they wanted to help!!!!!! That is my opinion!!!!!!

    November 28, 2012 at 2:23 pm |
  445. Amanda

i think he is not a ball hog or a hero. he is not a ball hog because his team mates were trying to pass to him so he could achieve this world record. if they really wanted to score it themselves they would not of passed to him. The whole team was apart of it .He was just a quarter of the sucess. This does not make him a hero just because he scored a lot of goals. He is an amazing basketball player and i am very impressed with his playing that day. Although i will not be suprised if someone breaks his record and they call that person a hero.

    November 28, 2012 at 2:26 pm |
  446. Eric

I think Jack was being confident to play his game. I would have if I was him.

    November 28, 2012 at 3:29 pm |
  447. Austin

Hero, because his team passed him the ball so that he could beat the record.

    November 29, 2012 at 2:54 pm |
  448. Abby

I think that Jack Taylor is more of a hero than a ball hog, because his team mates gave him the ball willingly.

    November 29, 2012 at 2:54 pm |
  449. Mariah

I think he was a hero because he only had the ball because his team mates kept passing it to him. Even though he would pass it back to them, and they gave it right back for him to shoot the ball in order to score for their team.

    November 29, 2012 at 2:58 pm |
  450. Nashaly

Well to me he’s he should be looked up to as a hero because he is just some regular kid who had the talent and bravery to play the game. But this title wasn’t made on his own he had the support and encouragement of his team mates. And to the critiques who call him a “ball hog” you need to see that he did try to share with the team, it was just that the team kept giving him the ball every time he passed it, so clearly he isn’t a “ball hog”.

    November 29, 2012 at 3:03 pm |
  451. Hailey

Jack Taylor is a great player with high hopes of winning a game. And his team thinks so, too. He may have been a ball hog in a way, but his team was encouraging it so they can beat the other team by a long shot. But a real ball hog is someone that takes advantage of the ball to their own will, while other people are trying to play. With Jack, I don’t see that definition of a “BALL HOG”. He had an ambition to win the game for the team, and the other players knew that he did, and plus the fact that he had great skills with the ball. If I were on his team playing for the school, I definitely would have passed the ball to the person with the most credential in the sport.

    November 29, 2012 at 3:11 pm |
  452. Seneca

I think he was a ball hog. He should've urged the ball on his teammates.
