He hears numbers, turns them into pictures in his mind, turns those pictures into a story...and then walks back through the story, remembering incredible amounts of numbers in the order he heard them. It's a method of training for a man with a masterful memory, and it has helped him win the U.S. memory championships.
For me, a former writer, I find that writing anything down (or even typing it) helps me remember. Repetition also plays a part: I'll sometimes take a script, read it through a few times, and focus on the most important phrases of each sentence. Then, when I step in front of the camera, I'll have the paragraph in my head.
What are the methods to your memory?
Carl Azuz, Anchor
I find that repetition really helps. Another way I use is to take a simple song like twinkle twinkle or just a random melody and put the thing I'm trying to memorize to it. I also think that writing/typing helps as well as nemonic devices.
I FIND THAT SLEEPING WHILE LISTEN RECORDED INFORMATION AS WELL AS STUDYING WILL HELP WITH BRAIN MEMORIZATION.
I think that's a good idea.
i arggree with you but what about studing and writting it down and study it
I think you should just read the paper alot so that all of it is stuck in your head. Thats what got me my diploma.... but no college acceptance.
My method of memorizing things is by my room. I try to connect it with everything in my room that i have. Everything in my room is lady gaga (BECAUSE IM HER BIGGEST FAN) and i connect it with a song or outfit she has done and it makes memorization fun for me! thats how i get the A's At my school!
I remember things from my helpful freinds remind me.I think some people multi-task more than listen.
I read things over and over again. Then I highlight the important things. This helps me to recognize the important information.
Repetition usually helps and writing/typing it helps even more. I usually only have to sing a song once to know the chorus of it. I think this is really cool for a man to be able to do this.
Music. For reasons unknown, I can memorize how a rythm or tune sounds after hearing it just a few times, and keep it in my memory for a long time. But I can't memorize anything else for longer than a day.
I just write it on a paper and keep it in a visible place
My methods to my memory is almost the same as yours, but slightly different. I focus on what I am trying to memorize and read all of it thoroughly. So, take Theatre for example when I have to memorize the lines for my role, I read the entire play. So when the act is on, I can hear and mentally read myself through the play and know what and when to say.
What helps me memorize things is I will write notes to myself and put them in the places I look the most. I've put notes to remember to do my homework on my stereo and notes to remember when an important test is coming up on the cover of whatever book i'm reading at the time. I find it easiest to write notes to myself and put them in the most obvious places. It's helped me a lot.
My remembering method has to do with repetition. If I need to memorize something I repeat it in my head many times until I remember it.
I think its pretty neat that he can remember all that. It made me think he loves his grandma very much if she inspired him to accomplish this
What I do to memorize is I read it forwards and backwards, then I pretty much do that a couple of times and then I know it.
I read things several times before I can memorize them. Sometimes it takes me days, other times hours, and sometimes just a few minutes. No matter what amount of time, I have to focus really hard in order to do it right.
I repeat things once or twice, and then I say it with out the thing i'm reading out of. I think repeating is a big part of memorization.
When I'm remembering vocab words, I associate an interesting scene with the word to remember.
If that doesn't work I repeat it over and over again until I remember.
I forget things a lot and I write them down in a special place so I dont lose it. I can't imagine doing it al in my head.
I use the repetition way
I like to use the repetition way, and like to repeat
I really like to use the repetition way, I repeat the sentence/word/number at least 3 times. I sometimes like to read sentences.
I always make it into a funnny story. Like remembering the groceries... Mom needs bananas to feed to her monkey that rides a bologna eating water buffalo.
I I will study over and over and ill pay closer attention in class so i want have to go over it again with the teacher.
With me I have to have visuals right in front of me. If I can’t see what I’m trying to remember then it’s all a blur. I’m not good with memorizing words. I also prefer hands on items if possible. Reading is not my strong point so if I read something even if I repeat it most likely it won’t stick. Maybe if I did it 50 times then we would get somewhere! But if I can see it or touch it then I’m more likely to remember what I need to.
I usually take looks at a spelling list that I'm told to study, let's say, and when I have it embedded in my mind, and the test comes, I know the words on the list.
I usually repeat little sections at a time of something big until have that part down. Then I keep adding on more sections until I have it perfectly memorized.
I just throw something on the ground and when I wake up, I ask, why is that thing on the ground. Then I suddenly remember!
The strategy I use to remember things I reread something a few times and then it sticks to my mind. Sometimes a catchy song will help me remember something.
I have 2 different methods. My first method is that I repeat each number in my head and almost forget everything I am doing in that moment. My second method is to write it down. I find it a lot easier to just write it down though.
My methods for remembering stuff is when I read over the script or writing something over and over and over again everyday. For example: You are trying to remember a language, and you do the verbs and other important things over again.
I remember the most important thing of the paragraph by going over it a few times. If the most important thing doesn't stick in my head, I write it down on my hand or on a post-it note. If it's a test, I would go over it multiple times and get someone to test me on it so I can practice and know what I have to review next.
i repeat the number in my brain and add 1 number then repeat it again and do it repeatedly
I think that my method is by writing down the things I want to remember. I find this method easy and it helps me a lot because it is similar to repeating yourself again and again to memorize something.
I just repeat something over and over and add a little more each time until I know it all.
I would repeat it (what ever it is) over and over until i am sure that i can write it down with out looking it over or hearing it.
The strategy I use to remember something is listening or making a catchy song about the topic I need to remember. This helps me a lot because the song gets in my head.
I also repeat the things I have to remember. Once I've repeated them, I find the hard ones and just say them out loud. If that doesnt work I will write them down and look for patterns. I might remember the first letter if it's words that I have to memorize, or if I have to memorize numbers I would just try to remember.
I love listening to and composing music, so when I need to remember a little thing, I make a short song, about 5 seconds long. When I need to remember more stuff for a test or something, I write a complete song, and sometimes I record it and put it on my iPod and listen to it when I need to study.
My tricks to memory are to get into a quite space. after that I write down what I need to remember tons of times and repeat also. If I sometimes play music to put out other sounds.
For me, I realize that reading and listening is an infallible method of memorizing things.
Making sound, such as reading loudly, helps me focus on memorizing.
I just read over what I'm going to say and then just memorize it
Creating words or phrases out of the first letter helps to remember also. Such as 09341 can be "Zack needed to forgive Omar."
If I want to remember something for later on in the day, I would just check the notepad on my laptop! I find all I need to know there.
I Practice and i keep it in store in my mind and keep trying until i do it and if i don't i keep trying
I would use repetition to memorize materials. Making sure memorizing is the last thing I do before I go to bed because that will help to reinforce the memories.
my memory method according to defintions i write them over and over again untill i remember it.
I use numbers to help me remember words, and for remembering numbers I try to make a way that they add, subtract, divide and multiply to make that number.
When I try to remember things such as a poem or a song I repeat it continuously until I can recite it without having to read it.
My way to (MNEMONIC) is to store the words or number in an empty spot In my brain And P.S I love you
I read the script once or twice and try saying the lines without looking at the script and practice everyday
To me, reviewing right after learning is a good approach in school. It makes the things you learned more
vivid in your mind. Reviewing before going to bed also has the same effect.
As a student, I find the easy way to remeber the important points in the textbook is that I speak out the important points and record them, so all I have to do is just play them before I go to sleep or when I am way back home. I just play these again and again,it helps a lot.
I make a story out of anything. If there is a human,a bananna, and a baseball, I memorize like this. The human is eating a bananna while holding a baseball. Same with numbers.
Hello, I'm from South Korea. I have to memory subject, mainly society and and science, so I just continue to read, say, and check. Especially saying is important. This way is most easy and good way for me to memory things.
When I need to remember numbers or objects, I just relate the number/object to one of the coutries in Europe.
Example:If I need to remember the number 5, I would remember Germany.
The way I would remember things is to write them on a piece of paper. My parents taught me this when I was 7. It always works.
I think it would be cool if he could work with Alzheimers patients and see if he could improve their memories. If he could use this skill for a positive purpose I think his time would be well spent. Can you remember this? 16496416985609276rtur09348760923drtyjdtyjk4875609348760942870389474tdy376092875-932847jseryh5-9234875kjndfb879816
8 . . . no, I didn't think so.
I like to group things together and then I can remember them. When I was waitressing I would memorize all of the orders by grouping them together.
I create my own original song with the material I try to memorize!
I create a "rap" to memorize information. Works great!
I try to remember the strategies that me and my teachers make for solving problems. And it always helps me on a math test. One of the strategies I use is to turn multiplication problems into sentences. For example 8×8=64 turns into I ate and I ate till I got sick on the floor.
One thing that really helps me is when teachers put information into songs. For an exsample, in 4th grade my teacher put the continents into a song that now in the 6th grade I still remember.
If I memorize vocabulary, I write down to memorize spellings or read it aloud to remember it.
And for numbers, I read them with rhythms so I can remember it easily.
one method is that i picture a thought make it into a scene that is good or bad and make it into a memory of a life experience that i have seen or do ethier way what this man dose is amazing.
i write to remember things or i just remember at anytime or if i hear about it again then i just keep thinking about it and then i just remember
the way i remember numbers and all that is i right it down and i study it at night before i go to bed and my brain goes over it in my brain over and over again that is why i get a's or b's on all my test's
I find it really cool that he can make stories out of numbers so he can remember all the numbers. I wish I used that method but it seems kind of hard. Anyways I think that taking notes and rereading a text containing the information I need know helps me to learn things. So that when I have to present the topic or write an essay I have a clear image of what I am going to talk about.
Dear Cnnstudentnews,
i think this man is amazing for him to memorize the numbers that he first listens to and know it from beginning to end and making pictures in his mind and making a story thats AMAZING. If i were you i would keep taking about him and make more videos about him probably alot of people is intrested in learning more things about him
Dearcnnstudentnews,
this man has a wonderful thought in how to remember things like this becaus i
wish i can have a wondeful thought like him to remember things also thats really cool and like places, pictures in his mind but i have a different technique at anytime
i would look a what i am memorizing and then try to think what it was
F.I.G. FIle Image Glue. File: take a name or a set of numbers like a phone number (ex. Ellis or XXX-XXXX) Image: for example, I picture the Statue of Liberty for my name (Ellis Island) Glue: Imagine the Statue of Liberty crushing my head or shoulders(Carl would be a car with a big loser L on the windshield driving all over his face (except Carl is not a loser) Numbers: There is a different technique for numbers think of images for certain numbers then turn it into a story: Example. While holding a hockey stick(7), I see a car(4) crash into a unicorn(1) chasing a cat(9) etc. Take the time to come up with images for numbers 1-20 and you'll be a Memory Master.
I do not
i don't really have a way of remembering things
I remember by studying.
i like songs so i put them in song.
i remeber things like my mom (great minds think alike) numbers 3594 i would remember like this: first 3 and 5 odd 5 and 9 would be skip 7 and 4 would make the seven if you add it to the three
I memorize the my teachers lextures then replay them back while taking a test. I have discover that most teacher write there test the same way they talk, so when I read the test question it is easy to replay there lextures in my head. Some teachers make it even easyer by telling jokes or stories right before or after the answer to a test question. The only class I have not done well in was 10th grade english because he didn't lexture that much. It wasn't till 7th or 8th grade that I started taking note at all even then I still learned things mostly or memorizing the teachers lextures.
I learn by writing things down and through repetition. Sticky notes placed around the house with important information help me to study while performing everyday actions like flipping on the lights. I would be lost without my stickies!
well to my memory is a very good one i can rember most things
I find that creating visual images in my mind helps a lot. I went on a mission trip to Cambodia and taught biblical storytelling and I use that trick especially to help me remember the story. I also find repetition helps.
I have a partially Photographic memory meaning I can look at a sentence or paragraph, focus on it, and memorize it like taking a photo. Later I can recall the photo back to mind and just zoom in on the things I need, the only problem is I sometimes get a little fuzzy around my edges. I haven't figured out how to fully develop the pictures yet. 😉
My teacher said rember for 8×8=nentend 64 game systm.
add something sensory! this is what helps cement things in my memory. if i can connect visual aids, sounds–using images/scenes or songs/soundtracks–or sometimes even smells to what I'm trying to remember, it really makes it easier!
I just read over it a few times then I know it.God has blessed me with a wonderful memory. So it comes pretty easy for me.
When I remember a phone number, for example, I put it to a catchy tune I'll remember. Writing things down helps me remember, also. If I say what I want to remember out loud, I'll usually remember it.
Wow what this man can do is just amazing. For me I have to read something twice to remember it over night while I sleep. I memory compared to this dude's is just a speck.
I do kinda the same thing. I use pictures but dont make stories because I do very well just doing pictures. I've tried his way through a tutor though. Its ok, but hard.
I can memorize from 1 to 5 easily, but after that, it becomes hard to memorize. So I keep on reviewing that words from the first number to the last number. Than, it becomes accustomed. So, I can memorize about 20 words using this memory strategies.
It helps me to copy my study guides down.
All I have to do is look at a paragraph, read it over and over, and then look away and usually I have it memorized by then.
Well my memory is like you tell me one thing I don't get it right away, but that's really cool how his memory is and he knows the numbers and go through them again very cool I wise I had memory like that.
I usually listen or do something five times or more.
In my case, there's no need to memorize digits of numbers and decks of cards, but I do have to memorize words and definitions for science, geography, and other subjects that require memorization. Regarding those subjects, I basically take the simplest way, writing the words down and saying it out loud. Like you mentioned, repetition is the key factor here, and no matter how much effort you put into remembering something, you have to face the fact that you will forget it many times until its placed deeply into long-term memory. So, repetition. That's something I care about when trying to memorize something. Other than that, I find that connecting the words with other ideas is pretty useful at times. In other words, in subjects like history, every event or person in history is somehow connected to some other part of history. When you mind the "connections" between things your trying to memorize, it's sometimes way easier.
in my memory i can remember what people say and do then later i will look back and say wow i can remember when that happen that day and took place
I remember short phrases for an essay or list, and then I turn it into a crazy or funny story that I easily remember.
I dont have any methods on remembering stuff i just have it in my head.
i dont have a trick to remember things
I don't have any specific way to remember things, but i like flashcards!
I just try to remember by making little stories in my mind, people say my memory is really good. I guess it is okay, but making stories with words and or numbers really helps you memorize them.
For me to remember something, i have to read/listen to it over, and over again. Any other way, it just won't stick.
I have a few ways to remember things, I repeat the phrase as someone says it or I say things over and over again with a beat.
Alot of people use" resources" to help them remember things.
I try and imagine pictures on what I am trying to remember.
It helps me because I have a learning disability.
i do not have any tricks to remember things. sometimes i retract things i've said or done and that helps me out a lot.
When I try to memorize something I try to find a rhythem to it. I'm a dancer, so rhythems have always been what I remember best. Writing things down several times also help me remember vocabulary definitions and the like.
I just read over the thing i need to remember a couple of times then i ask my mom or dad to quiz me then i study some more and hope i remember the right stuff for the test.
I just read over the material a couple times the n i ask aome one to quiz me then i study some more and hope i remember the stuff for the test.
That sounds great I'll try it
Just read over it a few times and try to get it to stick. =3)
I don't have a strategy. =D
I make cartoons on paper to help me remember history and science.
You have to concentrate really hard on each individual digit you're trying to remember, and repeat it in your head over and over. This will help you memorize anything!
I just study!!!!!
I usally say it into my phone then listen to it as i fall asleep
How I remember things is that I will hear them and then I repeat them in my head about 5 times then I usually have whatever it is memorized.
I just repeat them over and over again within my head. I picture the numbers in my head and try to play them back.
i repeat them in my hand
What is the story he has laid out on paper and in his head, or how was the numbers arranged to form words?
thats really wierd how that guy can memorize stuff like that. if i tried to use his method though, thatd just be really super impossible
I write it a bunch of times...
repeating things in my head works for me.
I think that takes talent to do what he does. When i heard about what he does i was surprised a person could do that! A method to remembering stuff for me is going over it a little bit, and what each letter of the beggining word stands for I remember one of my friends' names. This guy is definately a role model to me.
I also like the repitition method. Reading outloud helps too. I guess you could due both but one or the other ussually works for me.
i read the thing i am trying to memorize over and over. i pick out little details from the paragraph to help me remember the paragraph.
To be honest I don't study at all. For tests and stuff like that at school I can just remember what I learned in class and remember it for a test. That is what I do to study. I know the first 12 digits of pi and I only saw it once(3.14159265232).
What is the way i remember or memorize, information? Well, if I say or do what i have to rememeber over and over, then focus on individual parts of it, most of the time it sticks in my head for awhile. Sometimes I write everything i need to know, and then i write it and write it and write it till I know it like my own name. It works pretty well. 🙂
write it down on a pease of paper or in a jornal
Will this really work. Or will I try and get embarresed in front of my class.
I really enforce this! I tend to write things down a couple of times!
I write it down on my hand to remember (if I don't have any thing else to write on). I also have friends to help me remember things. If it's really important, I say it in my head alot and write it down in my planner. Thats how I remember my things!
I try to categorize things in patterns if I'm given a series of numbers or letters... then , because they're in groups, there's less things to remember.
Repetition works for me. When I have to memorize something, I repeat it many times in my mind and let it root in my memory.
For me I read it about 10 or 9 times remember some lines then I repeat what I could not memorize then repeat it to myself then repeat it to someone else.
Repeating stuff. OVER AND OVER. I used to watch stuff like Nemo or the Lion King when I was little. When I went somewhere with my parents, I would recite both movies and others in the back seat. I can still remember them and recite the lines of each character. My parents though I would be a genius!
I try to remember things in school by looking at the teacher and just watching and listening to them talk, maybe try to find something they do or say that will help me remember. Maybe I'll even remember a picture on the board or a video.
i think that is amazing what he can do and why he started in the first place you rock Nelson Dellis
I grab parts of a sentence and repeat a few times in my head. Then, I'll grab another part of the same sentence & repeat it, until the entire sentence has been broken up a few ways & repeated in my head. By then, I am usually able to repeat the sentence in its entirity.
I think memorizing is both an essential skill and forgotten skill. They need to have a class specifically for using your brain to the fullest, becuase it would certainly help the quality and the speed of students' work. My best method for memory is to say the verb or item outloud before I go to bed, and the next day i remember.
What I do is when I have to remember something I repeat it to my self a lot of times, that is how I can remember information easily.
For my way to remember things, I see colors so when I see a bunch of numbers, I see a bunch of colors in my mind.
to remember things i just remember them
to remember things i just remember and dont forget
To remember something I think of something that has happened in my life; a tragedy, a fun time, or anything like that, and relate it to what I am memorizing at the time.
I forget things quick so I have to write it down on a piece of paper and the next day ill remember
i mainly say what i am trying to memorize over and over till i can remember it.....then in bout 30 min i would try to remember again and then in like 2 hrs then its pretty much suck in my mind till i don't want to remember it.....it really works you should try it Carl..... 🙂
For formulas in math class, I do study guides and repeat things over and over. We also take notes and I study them sometimes.
I have photographic memory
I forget things a lot! If I make plans and I have to bring or do something for that specific plan I usually forget. I like to write things down or put it in my phone so at least I have a reminder.
I think that the best way to memorize is repetition. When I memorize music I play all the hard spots over and over again trying to get the right notes then I try not looking and then from the beginning up to that spot. It takes awile but it works.
I don't use any method to remember things. It all just "clicks" to me. Some of my friends say I have photographic memory, but I'm still working on it. I don't use this skill to do useless things, but I do use it on a daily basis. Maybe for tests? I don't study at all. If the teacher went through it in class, I got it. Yes, I got lots of pi to share and of course I've learned the keyboard!
i would simply type or write things down to remember something it especially help to write things down for spelling test.
i want to know why or how do people remember hard stuff and remembering when they are crambing for test. and how do they rite stuff when their eyes are closed.
Well, my way of remembering something would be to say it three times in my head, It helps me keep the memory because i said it a lot and i remember me saying it... Usually if i don't say it at all or don't think of it, I't takes me a long time to remember it... Thats my method of remembering.
I remember the important things first. Remember who was there . What was the setting .
To memorize things I find it helpful to put whatever you memorize into some type of tune or song. I read(or listen) to whatever I nead to memorize and then turn it into a tune.
i don't remember things so i just write it down because its hard for me to remember things. i have even forgot what i was going to do in like 10 minutes or i forget what i did earlier that day. i think its really funny and all my friends laugh about it.
I take the item or whatever i need to remember and tape it to my forhead so that way theres no way i could possibly forget.
I find that if my notes and anything else I need to remember are organized and I read over them a few times, I can see them in the back of my head and I remember them easier after writing and looking over them.
How i remember things besides numbers is by smells. I train my mind to find a smell for a certain number, for example 4532 is mac anc cheese.
I think that would be so cool to have that good of a memory.
I remember things from books I like have a movie theater in my head because I like read books while I have a picture of everything happening in my head.
MY method of memorizing important things is to make a song of it and sing it over and over
For me, I learn best by song. I had to learn the entire Greek alphabet in one day for a test, so I found a song on it and the next day I aced the test.
i suck at remembering stuff
My why is for me to listen to music and think of it the music so it can com me down and just think
the way i can remember of something is like turn my bracelet inside out.
I try not to remember what the exact images or numbers are, but what the whole picture looks like itself. Its similar to photographic memory. but if its not a competition, just write it down, it never fails.
i would like a memory like that so i can remember things like doing home work
i think its cool that he can do that and very talented he should be proud of himself for what he has accomplished:)
i make numbers or words into a song like pi:3.14159 i say 3 point 1 4 1 5 9 to the tune of twinkle twinkle. its fun and that is a really good technique. i also think typing and writing helps a lot as well as other mnemonic devices.
I put it into a song then sing it in my head. It only works for small numbers lika an adress but he is toattly amazing
I put them into catagories of numbers like random,2,4,6,8,9 and non-random,0,3,5,7. my pattern would go something like random, random, non, random, random
i rememeber things like my grate aunt. First i write it down and say it. Then i see it, and i say it in my mind. i say it out loud to my self.
I make up a song about what I have to remember. I will make it up to a song that gets stuck in my head easily, then replace the lyrics with what I have to remember.
I think it awesome to have a mind like that. I wish i had a mind that strong
I actually will write things down until they are memorized in my head. It really does work.
I like to sing the numbers to myself and keep a mental picture of the numbers on the top of my head.
It kind of reminds me of that movie with Nicolas Cage except instead of telling the future you're talking about your past. I remember stuff like family memories simply by taking pictures or if someone says something that reminds me of an event in the past I'll bring that up. And if its for a test, I would obviously study for it. But there's no real like profesional way of remembering things. I think it comes naturally.
I usually have to say it over and over aloud until I can memorize it, or I might put it to the beat of a song. It makes it so much easier to memorize!!
I like to type up whatever I'm trying to memorize and eventually I remember it! But I also like mnemonic devices. When I was learning the order of classification, I used King Phillip Came Over For Grapes and Spaghetti. Or, Kingdom Phylum Class Order Family Genus Species!!! 🙂
I often need to memorize dialogues for Spanish class - I find the best tactic for that is repetition, but only if it's aloud. For some reason, just reading it doesn't help me.
I remember things by thinking of things that relate to it and whenever I think of that thing that it relates to, the thing I have to remember pops into my mind.
For me to memorize something, it takes me a lot of thought. That's why I try to pay as much attention to things as possible.
When trying to remember information for a test I write down the information that I was told, rewrite it into my own words, then copy the information on flash cards. In short I rewrite the information a few times and quiz myself with flash cards.
I always try to make the material into a song. Whenever I get the song song stuck in my head, I am just better learning the material!
I make up little songs in my head that have to do with the subject. Or I will make up a chant on something that will get stuck in my head. These methods work well for tests.
I find that if you repeat what you need to remember, then you will know your material better and will memorize it faster. That's what I did to memorize pi to fifty decimal places.
My method of memory is writing things untill i can remember. That way it takes alot of time but I think it is the best way to remember it, This is a verry practical way because people see how you memorized it perfectly, not fastly
I turn what I hear into a song. Like a set of directions (To the tune of mary had a little lamb) When you get to stop sign take a left, take a left, take a left. When you get to stop sign take a left and look for the library banner!
I go to a website that has virtual flashcards, then you can take quizes on the flashcards you made. When I had finals I took the quiz a couple dozen times and it really helped. 🙂
When i try to remeber info I draw little pictures to hep me vilualize what i'm trying to rember and once the pictures are in my head i'll rember it. Works Great!! : )
well i just concentrate that' s the easiest thing you can actually do! 😀
I re-read the thing i need to memorize or repeat it again to help me memorize things
