Worth Waiting For?

This Monday on CNN Student News, you see people crowded around stores, packed outside malls, and camping outside buildings to buy something at retail price.  Some of the folks I work with said there's NO WAY they'd camp out for a pair of shoes (I wouldn't).  But that doesn't mean they haven't waited in ridiculously long lines for other stuff, like concert tickets or electronics or Black Friday sales.

So what we'd like you to tell us is this:  Is there anything you'd camp out to buy?  What is worth the wait, even if that wait is overnight and outside in the cold?

An Irish feis dress is something I would camp out for. They are lovely and beautiful dresses, but the only way you could get a used and in okay condition dress is if you go to EBay. You might think when you are reading this that oh, it is just a dress that probably costs around 50-100 dollars.

    It doesn't.

A pretty one can cost around 2,000 dollars. And they are a necessity for dancing the Irish Jig. This can be worth the wait for me.

I haven't camp out to buy, but I will do on May because of Gag concert in Korea.
That day, I would have to wait at least 7 hours, but at last, I can see the concert, and this is the worth to me for waiting.
I think the results are the worth for waiting, and these results can be endurance from the waiting outside in the cold, and others. 🙂

I think the only camping anyone should do should be outside at a campground or in the backyard with their kids. if i absolutely had to wait i would have to wait for something useful like a computer.

I have waited out for the wii, 3ds, and Xbox 360 and I'm pretty sure that I will be waiting out for upcoming sytems such as the Wii U and "Xbox 720" or what ever its called. If I had the money by the next two weeks, I would definantly be waiting outside of an apple store for the iPad 3.

To me, what only worth me waiting for is school lunch time. Especially on the day I didn't have anything for breakfast the morning classes are long as years and years. After waiting it worth waiting because it can fill my hungry empty stomache with delicious foods. Therefore, lunchtime is what only worth waiting for me.

I would camp out for any apple products.
I think they are very cool and are worth waiting for.
They have a lot of amazing featrues and I love all of the apps.
The apple store is always where I go when my family is looking for computers.

I really don't believe it's that necessary behind some shoes to fight people over and them be so expensive & people waste their time standing outside for a pair of shoes that they aren't ganruanteed to get because all stores only have so many pair and once there gone that's it.

And most times people who get the shoes sale them on a website for way more than what they paid for them and someone who doesn't know actually buys them.

I don’t think I would camp out to buy anything on sale. Some of the sales are really good, but some of those people get ridiculous. I wouldn’t risk getting trampled to buy something that is half the price it usually is. If there was a concert that I really wanted to see, then I might camp out for a little bit. I’m very picky though, so if it was really cold there is no way I would do it. I applaud the people who camp outside of stores and get those good deals. They have more endurance than I do.

Honestly I don't have the motivation or the patience to stand outside, especially if it was freezing, just to buy something thats fresh on the shelf, and is most likely ridiculously priced. I don't think itd be worth spending the money on the premiere price of a product when it is first released, let alone camp outside and wait in line for the store's doors to open. Whatever the reason is that people are motivated to pitch a tent and camp outside a store so they can hopefully get their hands on whatever new product they're seeking, I sure hope it was worth it for them.

I have waited in line a couple of times, one instance were for the College World Series, it was blistering hot. I enjoyed the experience, but I was pretty miserable standing in line. There aren’t many things I would stand in line for, maybe for another sporting event I would stand in line. Camping out is probably a little excessive, especially for something as simple as shoes. I would rather pay the few extra dollars to get it on my own time than to sit in a line overnight. Just like Black Friday, people get in fights and stampede, that is ridiculous. Lines can cause more trouble than what they are worth.

I can understand waiting like that for phones ipods or and electronic but for shoes, clothing, or anything you can live without. camping out just to bye things is sometimes plain stupid...but if it is something you really want, go for it. My personal opinion is that go and get it when you have time because waiting in line for something we live without. But it is what they want so it is their problem. But it also can take time from their family, and what is way more important to most people then family? To me I'd rather wait till something is cheep and bye it then but it is their problem. Spend time with your family instead of in the cold at the mall in the middle of the night.

Nothing. Because nothing is worth camping outside a store for it. Just wait for the store to be less crowded. if somebody in my family tried to do that I would try to make them leave and make sure they do not do it again. Because it is completely irresponsible for them.

    February 27, 2012 at 1:09 pm |
  33. Ra

i would not camp out to buy anything. you can get it in stores afterwards and its less of a hastle. people get hurt by camping out to buy things because other people want it first. its not worth it.

I would wait forever for the knowledge of the meaning of life. Yeah that's me. But think of what we could achieve! Every body else ( including me) has done something greedy, some people will post here I want an iPad or a dog ( which isnt that greedy) or a million dollars, but I want something that isn't a thing or object or some green lamented pice of paper with numbers and dead guys on it( dollars).

I wonder what would have happened if the sale was shoes that are free for about a minute. There will probably be a lot of violence.

Nothing is worth staying out on the street or in a parking lot. All those things that people wait in line for will be available for a cheaper price just a few months down the road. I got an Iphone3 for 29.00 right before the Iphone4 came out, it fits my needs. I wanted a laptop so we waited a few months after Christmas and go it for 200.00 less than advertised during Black Friday. People always get hurt during the Black Friday stampedes so someone will end up paying doctor bills for the few pennies saved.

    February 27, 2012 at 7:46 pm |
  53. Madison

I personally don't think any item you can buy in this world is worth risking my health and/or security.I feel if your necessities are being met there isn't anything you would need to buy that would require you to wait so long that you would have to camp out of a store.

Okay camping out for a pair of [NIKE] shoes is ridiculousness, although i would camp out for concert tickets. i love music and i love being able to go the live and in concert.

  57. Isabel

I would definetly wait in the cold overnight for Black Friday! That's the only thing I would do, really. I'm the SALES kind of person. I'm usually at the clearance rack or sales rack. I would never buy one pair of pants or a shirt for over $20 dollars. Black Friday is the day that everything is on sale, like electronics, clothes, etc. Black Friday is really the only day I spend all my money. That day is worth waiting outside overnight in the cold for. I've done it before and it's not that bad. As long as you have patience and food. And MONEY!!!

    February 27, 2012 at 9:02 pm |
  58. Bryssa

I would wait in line for something that really mattered to me. For example, I am saving up for an iPhone 4S, and if they went on sale for retail price instead of the $200 it is going to cost me, I would definitely wait in line!! But if it was for something like a new pair of sunglasses or a color of nail polish, I wouldn't spend my time on it!

    February 27, 2012 at 9:08 pm |
  59. Clayton

I would wait in line for weeks if I could get a game console that would put me into a virtual reality of my own creation. In fact, I woud try to invent a time machine (despite all the problems that would cause to the time-space continuum) to make a pre-order before pre-orders are even open.

Something that would be worth waiting for is something worth $100 or more at a sale with at LEAST 45% off! Some things SEEM like a good deal but actually aren't (or cheap).

    February 27, 2012 at 9:32 pm |
  62. Austin

If I were to wait outside in the cold to buy something I would have to say that it would have to be a set of half price Superbowl or Rosebowl tickets.

  63. chloe

What i would camp for is a pair of concert tickets that are sold out which is gonna be the Black Eyed Peas. ( Even though it was their last concert. But NO FAIR!!!!)

    February 27, 2012 at 9:34 pm |
  64. Will

I don't think anything is worth waiting outside over night for. You might not even end up getting the item that you are waiting for.

    February 27, 2012 at 9:36 pm |
  65. Emily

I would wait in line for shoes. Maybe waiting outside in the cold for three days for shoes are a little much. But if they were a pair of shoes that I really wanted then I would wait in a long line. I feel like I would wait in line for running shoes, tennis shoes, or just cute shoes in general.

    February 28, 2012 at 8:14 am |
    • Edna

I mean, what would you do with shoes? You use it for maybe one month? Longer? Then you'll throw it away!
How about waiting for things that are more useful? Like books(if you don't like it, never mind. I like those, though) or whatever things.

      February 29, 2012 at 7:05 pm |
  66. Tabby

I think that if people think shoes are important enough, then go for it. But to me, I would give up after a few hours. Shoes just aren't worth it to me. But I would camp out to something worthwhile, like a new iPod, or Celtic Woman tickets.

    February 28, 2012 at 8:17 am |
  67. Gregg

i dont think i would ever camp out for anything because a few months later the price will go down and they somtimes will get different colors.

    February 28, 2012 at 8:43 am |

    February 28, 2012 at 8:43 am |
  76. michael

I think that people are dum for standing out in the cold for shoes that are very exspenssive I dont think that any shoes are that nice that people will spend $10,000 on shoes.

    February 28, 2012 at 8:46 am |
  77. Nico

there may be some things I'd camp out to buy, mabey if it were front row concert tickets to one of my favorite bands live, or backstage passes..aw man that'd be awesom! I would camp out for that!

    February 28, 2012 at 8:49 am |
  78. Jacob

I wouldn't wait outside in the cold for some shoes. But I would stay outside waiting for a video game or a dirt bike. But shoes are something that I wouldn't wait outside and get hypothermia for.

    February 28, 2012 at 8:52 am |

No I would not do that. I would wait for the price to go down and then buy them.

    February 28, 2012 at 8:55 am |

I think that waiting around for a new pair of shoes or anything else would be silly. As time passes, the price of that shoe or other things would drop slowly, Why not wait until then?

  81. Brittany

  100. Blake

Honestly, not really. Why can't people just wait a few days, and then go buy it when there aren't crowds storming the mall with police with riot shields holding them back?

    February 28, 2012 at 10:29 am |
  101. lauren

well i think its ridiculous to camp outside and wait for somthing you dont need right away... the only thing i would camp out and wait for is medicine if i was dieing!

    February 28, 2012 at 10:31 am |
  102. Arlon

    February 28, 2012 at 10:33 am |
  103. johanna

I probably wouldn't do it because even if it was really cool, the price is really high so I would wait until it was cheaper and then I buy the item.

    February 28, 2012 at 10:35 am |
  104. christian

i would wait/camp out to buy a game system because they're not even that expensive, but to be on sale, that is awesome!

  108. aj

Well i read your blog and i ralized i would wait for a lot of things in cluding shoes. I have never waited in line for anything because i think if u can get what you want then you can get it any time realy. And plus if you get it then you have to pay like top dollar when you can wait like a couple months and get them for like half of what you pay a couple mothns before. People only get the new thing fast to brag to the people that dont have it yet or doesnt have the money for it. But if you get it later you will probly use it more any way. Thanx for reading what i think of that.

    February 28, 2012 at 10:43 am |

    February 28, 2012 at 10:46 am |
  111. christopher

I would only camp out for stuff that i really need because if you camp out for stuff that you want, then there are chances that you could get really hurt or even injured, and if you buy it then plan on selling it for more money, then what is the point of waiting in the freezing cold and long lines?

    February 28, 2012 at 10:53 am |
  112. Alencia

If i were to wait in line for something it would be a Harry Potter book. Its the best book series ever.Totally worth waiting for.

  120. marquise

nothing is worth waiting in line for that long unless your waiting for something thats going to save your life.

    February 28, 2012 at 11:35 am |
  121. Jessica

I don't think it is a good idea to let so many people in at the same time and the only thing I would wait for is a rare puppy.

    February 28, 2012 at 11:41 am |
  122. Evan

I would camp out for "The Hobbit" coming this december and I would camp out for the next five Star Wars Movies when they are released in 3d!

    February 28, 2012 at 11:43 am |

they shouldn't because if it is like the how many pair nikes it is probably going to be worth a lot which it is so my answer is no.

    February 28, 2012 at 11:43 am |
  130. Meghan

I think it's crazy that people do this. I would never camp out, to buy something. I would just wait to get it. I think people are just to materialized and they always need to ge the coolest things first, just in hope to be cool. People should like you for who you are, not what brand you wear.

    February 28, 2012 at 11:45 am |
  131. Harold

I would definitely camp out for weeks if I could see a Pink Floyd concert.

    February 28, 2012 at 11:46 am |
  132. katie

its not wroth waiting for a pair shoes in the cold

    February 28, 2012 at 11:50 am |
  133. Mason

I would wait hours for a big movie that is being released. Even if I had to sleep in the cold I think it would be worth waiting overnight and long hours for.

    February 28, 2012 at 11:52 am |
  134. Alayna

It depends on what you are trying to buy.

    February 28, 2012 at 12:06 pm |

    February 28, 2012 at 1:19 pm |
  137. Aurora

There is always something to camp out side for. For me, it would be wait to get the biggest dark chocolate bar from Hershey's. Also, I would camp out to gain (if ever possible) the same mutant power that Professer X had from the old X-Men moives. That would be SOOOOOOO COOOOOL!!!!

    February 28, 2012 at 1:35 pm |
  138. ozzie

    • kharala

dont you it wasn't as good as the book?

      February 29, 2012 at 1:50 pm |
  143. Autumn

Personally I wouldn't camp out for anything because I don't feel the need to have anything that greatly. If I need something, I can get it today, tomorrow, or a week from tomorrow. There is no "Now and Now Only" to life.

    February 28, 2012 at 1:47 pm |
  144. Galen

I think that people that wait out in the cold overnight just to get a pair of shoes or any other product. However I Think if i was going to wait outside in the cold to buy something it would have to be concert tickets.

    February 28, 2012 at 1:47 pm |
  145. Nathan

I wouldn't cause what if the shoes are not what you think thay are.

    February 28, 2012 at 2:02 pm |

I camped out to get a skirt. It was a total waist of time beacuse it riped the next day

    February 28, 2012 at 4:13 pm |
  156. Marissa

ITS NOT WORTH WAITING FOR BECAUSE YOU CAN FREEZE YOUR BUT OFF AND IT WOULD BE HORRIBLE BECAUSE YOU CANT TAKE SHOWERS OR CHANGE CLOTHES IN MY OPINION IT IS GOING TO GO ON SELL WHEN IT GETS OLD AND PEOPLE WILL STILL LIKE IT BECAUSE THEY WONT BE BAD IT JUST WONT BE NEW.AND PRICES ARE HIGH AND WHEN THEY GO ON SELL YOU CAN GET THEM.

    February 28, 2012 at 4:14 pm |
  157. sarah

if i to wait outside off a store just to get something it would be MW3 because its really fun and it is educational and helps kids get there anger out plus its fun to blow up things

    February 28, 2012 at 4:17 pm |
  158. Angel

Well one thing im think is worth waiting for is seeing one my Grampa's and one of my Grandma's in heaven. I miss them alot there are alwas with me I can feel them but I can't see them. 😉

    February 28, 2012 at 4:20 pm |

i would wait in line BEACUSE they could be some clothes that are in sale. or they could have specials with some couple jerseys. THEY could have shoes for thirty bucks with out tax or twenty dollars.

    February 28, 2012 at 4:30 pm |
  162. Elijah

I would wait outside for 500 stacks of greenery .Money is the only thing worth waiting for. Money runs things.

    February 28, 2012 at 4:32 pm |
  163. alan

Hmm let me think ahha, I would wait long as i have to for some kind of food or gum that taste like what ever kind of food i want it to or just food from fast food resteraunt.

    February 28, 2012 at 4:33 pm |
  164. sally

of course not because some of the sales are not that good anyway . and if you did where did you get a portable clock& how do you keep warm

    February 28, 2012 at 4:37 pm |
  165. Arianna

Nothing is worth waiting for in the cold, well not to buy, unless you are lost in the wilderness and waiting for help but you can't buy survival.

    February 28, 2012 at 4:39 pm |
  166. Zane

I personally am a gamer. So if there was a new video game that had just about to be coming out and My mom pre-ordered it for me; I would be able to camp outside of the GameStop that is near my house. One time; I waited for Halo: Reach to be out at mid-night. I don't bother for shoes. I can just go to Pay-for-less and have my mom buy some shoes from there. I think anyone out there who is a gamer, and loves to play video games; they should wait for any game that sounds interesting to them.

    February 28, 2012 at 4:56 pm |
  167. Joey

I would wait for these shoes. I am a basketball player, and with all of the attention the shoes are getting, that shows that they must be good.

    February 28, 2012 at 5:00 pm |
  168. Ashley

Heck no...its stupid. Wait till it goes on sale and then get it.

    February 28, 2012 at 5:00 pm |
  169. Moriah

I stayed out side the subway with my friend the day of the opening it was fun. Also I stayed up for the twilight out side a mall in tell we could go in.

    February 28, 2012 at 5:03 pm |
  170. John

I'd camp outside of a store for an awesome new video game for the Wii. Like Mario, or Zelda. If it was held on Black Friday I would not camp out because it would be way too much of a frenzy!

    February 28, 2012 at 5:03 pm |
  171. joshua

i would wait outside for like a video game or black friday and for a new movie that came out at midnight at the movies 🙂

    February 28, 2012 at 5:13 pm |
  172. Julia

The only reason I would camp out in front of a store would to get [concert] tickets with a backstage pass. If it didn't come with the backstage pass, I would have no reason to camp out in front of the store.

    February 28, 2012 at 5:15 pm |
  173. sarah

every time a new movie comes out at the movies at midnight

    February 28, 2012 at 5:15 pm |
  174. Cristian

I don't think it's worth waiting for getting those shoes because there just shoes there not going to help you with anything but waste money on something that's just going to be popular for a while.

    February 28, 2012 at 5:26 pm |
  175. Petra

i would stand out in a long line for days to buy Philidelphia Eagle tickets.

    February 28, 2012 at 5:28 pm |
  176. Jabez

I personally wouldn't stand in line that long for a pair of shoes. Plus I would only stand outside in the cold that long for something i would really want for a cheap price such as an Ipod or tablet.

    February 28, 2012 at 5:34 pm |
  177. Jan

I would only wait outside any store if a retail giant was to stock model airplanes, specifically Gemini Jets. Shipping costs of $6 on a tiny item would be a thing of the past!

    February 28, 2012 at 5:38 pm |
  178. kendall

I would camp out to get a winning lottery ticket that has a billon dollar cash prise and the first 50 people get a new car (like thats ever going to happen!)

    February 28, 2012 at 5:43 pm |
  179. Michaella

I personal you not wait for hours outside a store but i do know people who have. I there was something that I really liked or something that i would want that would not be there another day.

    February 28, 2012 at 5:47 pm |
  180. Lindsey

World peace and Johnny Depp! Yeah like that would ever happen. No but seriously, probably the next book in the Warriors series by Erin Hunter.

    February 28, 2012 at 5:48 pm |
    • Lindsey

      SOOOO TRUE!!

      February 28, 2012 at 5:49 pm |
  181. Jeremy

Unless I can't wait a few months to get the proposed object, and I wanted it bad enough. I would just wait. All that effort just for a slim chance of getting something I can get later at a lower price just isn't worth it.

    February 29, 2012 at 1:41 pm |
  182. carlos

I guess i would wait for anything i really want and/or like. 🙂

    February 29, 2012 at 1:44 pm |
  183. Jeremy

Unless I needed the said object that has come out badly. Or have wanted it for a extended period of time. It just wouldn't be worth it to me to wait in a endless line just for a small chance to get it. I'd wait until the need has gone down from the people and the price has lowered.

    February 29, 2012 at 1:45 pm |
  184. Brenna

The onlything worth waiting for is my awesome cat antony! I already have him!

    February 29, 2012 at 2:06 pm |
  185. Brenna

Oh and a new robot that does your homework and goes to school FOR you! Andd thats not going to be invented yet!

    February 29, 2012 at 2:11 pm |
  186. Angela

I would wait in a long line or camp outside for a free ipad because i dont feel like saving up money for one because it seems like too much

    February 29, 2012 at 2:14 pm |
  187. katt

I would wait in a long line or camp out for osiris their such a cool shoe but camp out for days no way

    February 29, 2012 at 2:14 pm |
  188. David

I would not wait in line that long for a chance to buy shoes. I would rather go help people in need than spend my time waiting for something I don't need.

    February 29, 2012 at 2:19 pm |
  189. Jack

I think it depends on what you are going to buy. If you were going to buy concert tickets or something like that it would be worth it. But just a pair of shoes thats not worth waiting for since they are going to make more of them and if you wait long enough they will be way cheaper.

    February 29, 2012 at 2:25 pm |
  190. Kniep

I would camp out if it would mean getting tickets to go up into space for free. Zero gravity would be totally amazing!

    February 29, 2012 at 3:06 pm |
  191. Bartholemew

I think camping out is close to pointless. Chances are, you could either buy the product later, or at least wait until the next day.

    February 29, 2012 at 3:09 pm |
  192. Mili

I would most definetly stand outside in the cold for anything Hunger Games related. My mom thinks I'm crazy. I just simply agree with her! 😛

    February 29, 2012 at 3:16 pm |
  193. Faith

I would camp out for an entire week for a chance to be the first to see "Fullmetal Alchemist and the Sacred Star of Milos."

    February 29, 2012 at 3:46 pm |
  194. kaylee

I think it is definetley worth waiting for i mean what person does not like shoes.

    February 29, 2012 at 4:00 pm |
  195. Sierra

I would stand outside in a long line for Carolina Tarheels basketball tickets.

    February 29, 2012 at 4:32 pm |
  196. Ciara

I would wait for the newest iPhone for three days in the middle of a blizzard if I had to! My mom won't buy my one and she probably wouldn't even let me stand in line. I would if i could though!

    February 29, 2012 at 4:38 pm |
  197. liv

there is nothing that i would stand out in the freezing cold to get, i personally think people who do that are crazy.
ok maybe for an Adele consert....

    February 29, 2012 at 5:12 pm |
  198. Sabrina

I would camp our for a autograph from famous soccer players.

    February 29, 2012 at 5:13 pm |
  199. Dory

I mean if the product that I was buying was great overall I would totally wait in line for it. But, If it's a not so great product I would wait until it comes back in stock and the price goes down. But for shoes I dont think so! haha

    February 29, 2012 at 5:21 pm |
  200. Annabella

i think that people should just be grateful for what they have. i dont think there is anything i would wait in a line for unless i was in a situation that i needed food or shelter. thats really all i need.

    February 29, 2012 at 5:39 pm |
  201. Jaden

I know i would wait for food. Many people in diffrent countries (3rd world) such as Ethiopia and somalia, wait out over night just to get a cup of rice, in a changing climate. I would most definently wait for food and water, Like our siblings in Africa and across the world are, right now!

    February 29, 2012 at 5:54 pm |
  202. Julia

I'd wait for the newest video game, or some art supplies which are ridiculously hard to find at other places.
Also, I find it a bit ridiculous how people would literally camp outside the mall for something as nonsensical as shoes.

    February 29, 2012 at 6:47 pm |
  203. Jada

    Justin Bieber anyone?

    February 29, 2012 at 7:20 pm |
  204. Aliyah

I believe that waiting in line for numerous days just for a pair of shoes is kind of ridiculous, but in the end it is an individual's opinion and beliefs that matter. I would wait for special medicine if I was in desperate need for it, and the one other thing I would wait for is to meet my favorite celebrity, Zayn Malik.

    February 29, 2012 at 7:48 pm |
  205. Hannah

No way would I wait for days just to get a crummy pair of sneakers no matter how cool they're supposed to be. In my openion its a complete waste of time!

    February 29, 2012 at 7:50 pm |
  206. Paul

It would depend on what exactly the item was, but most likely I would just wait for the item to go on sale online, unless I was getting paid for review it and needed it right away.

    February 29, 2012 at 8:26 pm |
  207. Yasmin

I would never camp outside a store for a pair of shoes. It's not like the world is going to end if you don't get them.I would rather buy a pair of shoes that are less expensive.

    February 29, 2012 at 8:32 pm |
  208. mason

What I would wait for is a new game system. The reason why is that I'm a huge game freak. I will spend hours playing on a game. That's what I would sleep out on the side walk for.

    February 29, 2012 at 9:07 pm |
  209. Alyssa

I think that waiting hours just to by shoes is rediculous. If I had to wait in line for something it would be to get the cure for a deadly disease. I think waiting in line for this would be well worth it. I would wait in the rain and cold and overnight.

    February 29, 2012 at 9:29 pm |
  210. Chidumebi

I would wait in line to get superpowers(remember to say thank you if I save the world).

I would definately camp out for neat clothes that i want! it is kind of overreative to actually spend overnight because of that, but still, i want it! So what?

If what I'm waiting for cannot be found online and is entertaining and/or useful, like a high-quality computer, art supplies, musical instruments, etc, I might camp out. But I would make sure to bring everything I needed so I could be as safe and comfortable as possible that night. Otherwise, it wouldn't really be worth it.

REALLY SHOES!!?? That is something that nobady would do... unless they're insane. I certainly would NOT wait 3 hours just for a pair of pricy shoes.
