Taking Out Technology

Could you go three days without ANY electronics, including computers, radios, phones and TV?

GREAT story out of Tennessee on Thursday's show: A teacher asked his students to give up ALL electronics for three days.  They were challenged to go without computers, iPods, radios, cell phones, television...  You name it:  If it had a battery or needed an outlet, students couldn't use it!

Now as I sit at my desk at work, typing on my blog, with my cell phone next to the keyboard and CNN playing in my monitor, I fully understand how dependent we all are on technology.  But I am curious to what you think about this:  Can you see any benefits to going without technology for three days?

There could be Benefits like getting more sleep or doing better in school. a big factor in kids failing class is because of video game. They get addicted and will decide not to do homework.

You can get more sleep. Not having Electronics for a a few weeks would teach us to not rely on it to much. Electronics can be bad because you can get addicted to them. If your like my older sister you cant put your phone down and think that it's your life.

I can see some benefits like it would save some electricity, and get kids to focus more on school and books and things like that.

I could not go 3 days without technology, I probably couldn't even go a day. Yeah, there benefits from going without it, like talking to your family more, reading. Getting your focus off of the computers & phones & getting outside, getting exercise.

It could be benifits but i dont see my self personally living without technology. I guess thats because i grew up with all the technology. I would think a benift would be to see how it feels to live without technology. How to entertain yourself. Stuff like that.

Some benefits I can see for not having technology for three days is getting more sleep, because you aren't surronded by bright lights that make you want to stay up.

If people did not use technology for a while, it would be unusal. But people will be able to learn new things in life and See how it was back in the 1800's. Instead of using computers, they can go out and get a book. Then people who watch T.V. alot, can go outside playaround. Technology is not the most important thing in life, Learning new things is.

I don't think any could go 3 days without electronics I know I cant.
Because electronics are essential to most people. People need to do

I agree with what this teacher is doing, but I think there's ups and downs to it. Somethings you need technology for. Like if you witnessed a car accident or you were in one. what would you say "Oh sorry, I can't call the ambulance and help you. I'm trying to get extra credit for school". Now that just doesn't sound right to me.

I have tried going without technology for a day and couldn’t do it. Everyone today is so dependent on technology that any sort of break down causes a lot of stress for a single person. Most of our school data base is in the computer and if our server is down all of the teachers are at a loss of what to do because they use their computer for videos, attendance, lunch count, communicating with each other, etc. If you would go without technology for a day you could get a glimpse of what it was like before all of the technology came into this world. You would probably be more sociable with your friends and family because that would be your source of entertainment. Three days is too long to go without technology and I don’t think I could do it.

I think it would be a good idea to go without technology because it would probably increase people imagination and teach them what it was like before tech

i think that it is a good idea to try but hard to do. I cant really find a good benefit for it.

I can go with out technology. It's just that if everyone did, then some people would have a difficult time doing certain things, take teachers for example, they need the computer to grade papers and put them into the grade book.

  40. Nickole

I think that is a good idea because a lot of teens and kids are on line or on their phone and listing to music and not keeping brain cells

    December 8, 2011 at 9:45 am |
  41. Anne

I don't think I could ever go without technology, because I use it for every class, everyday. However, I do think that their are some benefits to go without technology for a few days. I think it would help children understand how it was back in the old days, when there was no I pads, I pods, and laptops. I also think that that parents that lived through those times, could take some time out of their day, and teach their kids how they had fun without technology.

    December 8, 2011 at 9:47 am |
  42. samantha

yes, it would benefit me a lot because I stay up late texting on my phone and if I gave up my phone for three days I wold get a lot if sleep that I haven't been getting.

    December 8, 2011 at 9:52 am |
  43. Zach

I think asking kids to attempt to take technology out of there lives for a week. It will show them what it was like before smart phones and computers. I don't believe I could ever do it. But anyone who can rough it for a week should be praised. Because in a world dominated by technology it would be near impossible for kids to go without.

I have to do my homework on-line, so I would fail. I don't think i would be able to not listen to Christmas music on the radio either.

  45. Aubrey

I think that going with out TV and other electronics for three days is something I could never go with out.I think with out electronics for me would be torture,I would go crazy because what if some one texted me some thing important, and I never saw it or what if I was in my mom's car and a new song came and i was the only one that didn't hear about,so my point is I cant live with out electronics .

    December 8, 2011 at 9:59 am |
  46. Jacob

I think i couldn't do that because what if need to find a website on your computer or you need to do school work on a laptop or a phone.

    December 8, 2011 at 9:59 am |
  47. Aaron

I think I could because all you have to do is take your mind off it or just go out-side and play football or basketball or what ever sport you like with out electronics.Or you can just go to the park read a book walk your dog thats all you really have to do is take your mind off of it.

Yes, I think there are benefits to not using technology for 3 days. It would make me read more, communicate with my family more and get more sleep. I would probably be a better driver without the distraction of the radio and cell phone.

Yes. If You Don't Have Any Technology For A Week That Means People Won't Be Able To Watch TV or Use Their iPods or Cell Phones. So Its Really Teaching Them How People Were Without Technology and it Could Also Help Them Focus on Their School Work. I Know For A Fact I Couldn't Do It Because I Basically Use Electronics Every Minute.

    December 8, 2011 at 10:02 am |
  50. Jacob

I think I couldn't do that because what if need to find a website on your computer or you need to do school work on a laptop or a phone. And what if you need to find something you need to buy or sell. You would need a computer to send someone an email that lives in a different state than you

There are benefits for not using technology for 3 days. You would be able to experience what it was like before they invented electricity and it would save power, but I could not live a single day without my laptop or ipod.

It would be easy to 3 days with out technology for me because I don't have cable and my family just got internet. I think people would have less car accidents with out cell-phones.

I think 3 days with out technology would be a great thing I would get more sleep and it would probably help me be better in school. Also communicate more with well anybody. Plus with out it I could wake up in the morning and not have a headache and it is better in the car with out the radio blaring in my ears:)

    1. helps you focus more on school
    2. more physically fit and active
    3. get more sleep at night
    4. use less electricity (go green!)
    5. improves your concentration
    6. do more reading (newspapers,etc.)
    7. participate more in school
    8. make you more social, rather than texting or facebooking you actually go and talk to people
    9. would help you learn to be less dependent on technology and more dependent on books and other resources
    10. better grades in school!

  75. Brianna

I can definantly see benefits to going without technology. You get to see how people lived back before we were fortunate enough to have technology. It really makes you stop and think about how we have evolved as people. You would also be able to save energy, which would save you more money. Plus you would be able to spend more time with family and friends if you were not tied down with technology. I think I could probably do it but it would be kind of hard to not listen to the radio.

    December 8, 2011 at 10:16 am |
  76. Courtney

Yes because it will save energy and teach people that they can survive the world without it. Because people before the 1840's had no electricity they made there own light, heat, cooked there own food, and they used no electricity.
It will teach them how hard it was without it.
    I barely even watch T.V.

Personality i couldn't go a day without electronics. I use my phone almost everyday all day and its my way to communicate with my parents and my girlfriend. I also use my cd player in my truck to listen to music everywhere i go and i use a calculator almost everyday in math and what if we couldn't use we wont get much done in math without them. And computers we all us them everyday at work and school. All of the students and staff at our school use computers everyday we have to take attendance and our lunch count and if they didn’t use the computers to do that we wont know who’s here at school or who’s eating lunch everyday.

I see some benefits in not using electronics because it gets people to read more and see how it can be better than video games and TV.

    December 8, 2011 at 10:40 am |
  88. Elizabeth

Their are benefits to not using technology. Without technology at hand people are forced to find other outlets to keeping themselves busy. It pushes children to go outside and play or play boardgames with their family rather then sit at home and watch tv or play games on the computer or any type of game system. WIthout using electronics you are forced to look around and enjoy life and mother nature instead of sitting behind a screen all day.

  89. Rachel

I guess not having electricity or using it for a few days could benefit in how much we use of it going down?
Maaybe conserve some energy for more important uses.
I'm sure my mom would appreciate us not using technology so the electricity bill would go down.
It would be interesting though to see how many days all of us could go without electricity.

    December 8, 2011 at 10:42 am |
  90. elsa

yes because you will have more spare time and instead of sitting around on your computer or laying down with your phone youll want to entertain yourself and go out and have fun which would be good on a health basis and youll get to bed earlier and not be digging through your phone at night.

I could not go without a phone for a week because I could not be able to get ahold of people also that is pretty much whati do all the time. If I didn't have a phone I would be lost. My phone is how I talk to all my friends and see what their doing

    December 8, 2011 at 10:44 am |
  92. Sania

Yes, if people stop using electronics it will benifit them in many ways physically as well and socialy. People usually consider electronic such as their phone/mp3 players their first priority in life and in many cases that led to diseases such as cancer which can be the consequence of texting too much. People will start to realize that there is a vast world out there and become closer to their family instead of stalking other people on facebook, twitter and other social networks. Plus it'll make their minds much more peacful and they won't be thinking of what others commented on their pictures on the internet or what others said about you.
    PEACE!:)

the only benefits i can see without using technology is if you were aways on vacation at some island having the time of your life. but if youre at home at alone and you cant have your itouch out, or if youre in the car but you have to drive in silence, or if youre doing your homework with no calculator, it gets pretty hard because we are so used to the benefits that technology gives us. if there is technology why not use it? i dont think there is any benefit going without technology for 3 days because it would just make you think about what technology you do have but you cant enjoy it. it doesnt necessarily mean that we have become dependent on technology its just that in this generation it is a given, because it makes life easier.

    December 8, 2011 at 10:45 am |
  94. Madeleine

I think there may be a benefit to going without technology for longer periods of time than most teenagers do; however, I dont know that three days is necessary. A lot of time people use technology to better their lives. Things such as being able to play Chirstmas music in your house and to keep current with your family's whereabouts can add to the happiness of people's lives and does not be to be avoided.

personally i could not do the challenge. my life is in music and without technology i cant listen to it to get ideas for new songs. i believe it makes everything so much easier and more convienent. if youd like to contact someone, rather than having to go to their house or send them a letter you can get in touch via email, text, call, etc. if you need to do research theres the internet to find exactly what you need instead of having to read books and scan for the information you need. the pros outweight the cons 9/10 from my point of view.

I do not believe that this is plausible. In today's society, people have grown dependent on technology. Technology has made us the country we are and with out the access to many things such as the computer or cellphones there would be many negative consequences. I myself use technology on a daily basis, whether to do my homework or call my parents to tell them im running late. Sure, it's possible to do these things without the technology but this definitely makes it much quicker and efficient. The times have changed and a lot of people need to catch up and enjoy the new view.

There are benifits to going without technology for 3 days! 1st, you'd get more sleep! You'd spend more time with your family and you woud REALLY apreciate all the things we have in the world today.

    December 8, 2011 at 10:50 am |
  99. Nicholas

Seeing how the students reacted to the challenge made it clear to me that the newer generation couldn't possibly benefit from the absense of technology. Taking away technology would be taking away ones future.

    December 8, 2011 at 10:50 am |
  100. Matt

It would be difficult, but definitely plausible. I would take the subtle yet awesome approach of living out in the forests of Ukraine, crafting my own tools for use such as my hand fashioned bow and arrows. I would also befriend various woodland creatures to aid me in my struggle. The blazing heat and light from my fire would keep me company over the long and somber nights of my journey. This challenge would be a huge undertanking, but can be done with the proper know how as well as a spirit with a high morale.

  101. Shardea

I couldn't go with out technology because I work alot and usually don't always be at home and without my phone I would not be able to contact my parents.

  102. Tonya

I could probably go without any electronics, the days that I wouldnt be using them would be a lot cheaper when it was time to pay bills. But not using technology also would mean that businesses would not get as many customers for the amount of time that people were not using their products, and it would be much harder to communicate. But if every one just stopped for one day it might also help the economy.

    December 8, 2011 at 10:53 am |

the upside you might get better grades and a lot more sleep.so i would do it.

I say that this no electronics is a good idea so we can go outside and excersise instead of being alittle lazy inside texting or playing on a electronic. So Yah!! Ditch Electronics!!

Going three days without technology would be hard for most of us because we are way too dependent on our electronics but we would be able to see how other people in poorer countries have to survive for most, if not all of they're lives.

    December 8, 2011 at 11:11 am |
  107. Cole

Not really, it is kind of pointless, because right after the three days they would go right back to their technology.

    December 8, 2011 at 11:14 am |
  108. Sarah

I think it would be cool to try to go without electronics for a few days I think that it would make us appreciate it more but it would be miserable.

    December 8, 2011 at 11:14 am |
  109. Meghan

I think that not using electronics for three days, will really open the students eyes so they can see what else they can do, besides texting and always being on the computer or i-pod, i think its a good challenge.

    December 8, 2011 at 11:15 am |
  110. Lucien

You get to really relise how important technology is to our society. You also get to appreciate it more.

Spending more time with your family.
    Test of will
More sleep and get more work done.
Reality: most people who go online on their computer are stuck in their own world.
Hanging out more with friends, family, and being outside with nature.

    December 8, 2011 at 11:18 am |
  112. Donny

I know that I couldn't do it because I have to go out and when I do I need to use my cellphone. The beneifits would be that it would probably cause less stress and I would get more sleep. I'd also probably do more homework.

    December 8, 2011 at 11:19 am |
  113. Nicole

You would definitely get a lot of family/friend time. I think we're really dependent on technology now and we could use some time off.. not that I would go through with it.

    December 8, 2011 at 11:19 am |
  114. Reed

I think this would give us a chance to slow down and look around. With everyone always rushing around and talking, no one stops and smells the roses

  115. Evan

Technology is a luxury and makes things faster. That said, I don't think it is absolutely necessary, but, I don't thing any harm is done. Too much of anything can damage and that is true of technology. Long term damages include eye damage, carpal tunnel and finger diseases, and lack of sunlight from staying indoors. All of these are extreme conditions caused by extreme use of technology which causes unbalanced lifestyles. Everything must be used in moderation and people that can understand and realize that are better off.

yes because you can get alot done in the time ur not using tecknology and i love my cell phone but once i put it down i get alot done

Going without electricity does have some benefits. It allows us to live in our ancestors shoes. They had to travel if they wanted to talk to people and had to use books to research as well as many other things we can use technology for today. I think I could manage three days without electricity, but only barely.

    December 8, 2011 at 11:25 am |
  119. Christopher

The benifits of giving up cell phones. Most teens text, and when they text they lean forward causing the spine to bind forward, and may countiue to grow like that, so if we as teens give up texting sometimes we wouldnt have to worry about that.

    December 8, 2011 at 11:26 am |
  120. isabelle

people would be more developed mind wise without technology, try finishing a research paper nowadays without using the internet, its hard! BUT NOT IMPOSSIBLE!!! people think that without technology they would be nothing, but maybe it would be a good thing. i think that teacher has got the right idea!

    December 8, 2011 at 11:27 am |
  121. Alex

I think that because we are so dependent on technology, that it's a bad idea. we have become so dependent on these devises that it's not just a want it's more of a need. We need our computers for school and what happens if there is an emergency? what would someone do if they don't have their phone in that situation!

    December 8, 2011 at 11:34 am |
  122. zach

i could not go three days without my phone or tv or game system. I would go nuts. Especially with my game system, because i play it every day to get better and better

    December 8, 2011 at 11:34 am |

I cant go 3 days without it because emergency's can happen and your going to need your phones and electronics.

I think that the shouldn't text or use electronics for three days.or dont use electronics for the year.

Going without technology? That sounds crazy for todays electronics.
But I think I could do it for 3 days maybe even a week. I think its not that
    "BIG OF A DEAL".

  126. travis

I DONT THINK I CAN GO MORE THAN THREE DAYS WITHOUT ANY ELECTRONIC DEVISES. I CANT EVEN GO A DAY WITHOUT MY PHONE BECUASE I HAVE PEOPLE TO TXT AND THINGS TO DO. ALSO WHEN EVER I NEED TO DO A PROJECT I HAVE TO BE ABLE TO TURN IT IN TO MY TEACHER.

    December 8, 2011 at 11:36 am |
  127. Nikko

I think taking technology out could be a good idea because they will pay attention more and you will get extra credit for lasting three days with out technology

It would be weird without technology because lots of kids wouldn't be able to do their work on their net books,or parents wouldn't be able to see the news.

  129. Gabe

I don’t think I can see any benefits by going without technology. It has become such a part of our everyday lives using phones and computers on a daily basis for our jobs and school work. With no electronics for three days is in a way like not eating these days, that’s how much it has been introduced into our lives. I personally couldn’t go three days without any electronics. I am usually always on my phone or listening to songs on my IPod. When I’m not messing with my phone or IPod, I’m on the computer working on my homework or on Facebook.

    December 8, 2011 at 11:40 am |

I don't think I could do it. I would spend more time with my family and outdoors.

    December 8, 2011 at 11:41 am |
  131. Kendall

Some benefits I see is that we use technology so much in school, home, etc, that students don't get to interact with one another. Of course we chat on line and talk/text on the phone but really don't interact. Giving up our technology for three days would give us some time to spend more time with each other. Also we get to do other things besides just sitting around at a computer.

    December 8, 2011 at 11:42 am |
  132. Arantza

I can't do it because I use my iPod all the time for music, and that music helps me concentrate. I also wouldn't be able to do it because I use my cell phone to communicate with my friends about assignments and other important events like sport games .

    December 8, 2011 at 11:42 am |
  133. Justin

Yes,There would be some benefits such as kids would be more active and not watching TV all day.

    December 8, 2011 at 11:42 am |
  134. Bruce

I could never go without technology for three days. I would feel sad and depressed. With technology I go on facebook, I text my friends and family often on a daily basis. I listen to music. Technology makes me feel happy and connected with other people. Without I would feel sad and lonely, I don't know if I could learn to live without it.

    December 8, 2011 at 11:43 am |

I don't think I would be able to go three days without technology because I am always using my iPod, I use it for everything. I also can not stand being in a car without the radio playing.

    December 8, 2011 at 11:43 am |
  136. Chase

No I can't live without technology because I would be so bored with my friends texting to me and I love listening too music.

    December 8, 2011 at 11:43 am |
  137. Brittany

I wouldn't be able to go a day without technology but, on the positive side you would be able to see what it was like before.

i've gone 3 months so far without my phone ipod and my computer is too slow that i never use it so its not that hard some people just exagerate about it.

    December 8, 2011 at 11:45 am |
  142. Pedro

No there is no benefit with going three days without electronics because it show that we are advancing in technology.

    December 8, 2011 at 11:45 am |
  143. Ashley

For a few days without technology I think that is okay, with technology you don't get much sleep, you have a lot of distractions and you school work won't get done. Without technology you will sleep better no more distractions and get all your school work done.

    December 8, 2011 at 11:45 am |
  144. Shana

I dont know why people need electronics even though i dont have facebook or a phone i could do it but im not sure about my mom.

    December 8, 2011 at 11:46 am |

I would go out side and play football and basketball.

    December 8, 2011 at 11:46 am |
  146. Quinn

I think I could, but it would be hard to give up my iPod.

    December 8, 2011 at 11:46 am |
  147. Mandy

Because of all the advances in technology, there are negative effects it has brought along with it. For example the amount of near sighted people has significantly increased and some technology gives off harmful microwaves to our bodies. Trying to stay away from it completely is unobtainable, but toning it back wouldn't be so bad.

    December 8, 2011 at 11:46 am |
  148. Trystan

There are plenty of benefits, but I don't think a mddle school student could do it. How would they get a hold of their parents? if they have no cell phone it would be easier. If you could succeed then you would be able to actually hang out with friends in real life more than on the internet and social networks (ex. MMO's, Facebook)

    December 8, 2011 at 11:46 am |

    December 8, 2011 at 11:47 am |
  151. Ally

I couldn't go without my phone or radio or three days, i could do without the internet, but i would die without my phone. I have to be social in some way, I can't just do my homework without talking to someone or listening to my radio.

    December 8, 2011 at 11:47 am |
  152. Joel

I think I could but some of my classes requier me to use the computer and other electronics.

    December 8, 2011 at 11:47 am |
  153. Zoe

I don't think I would be able to go without my laptop or phone for over a couple days. My normal schedule consists of me going home, getting on Facebook, turning up my music, and then texting. I wouldn't know what to do for so long, because our culture has started to depend on technology.

    December 8, 2011 at 11:48 am |
  154. Alexis

i dont see any benefits for going without technology because everyone has to use it during work, school, at home and ect... i would not be able to go without technology.

    December 8, 2011 at 11:48 am |

I would have more time to help my dad do chores.

I know for a fact that I can't live without ipods, cell phones, and internet. I freak out when I can't find my phone. And when theres no music, I freak out. Whats the point of life if you can't have technogly.

    December 8, 2011 at 11:48 am |
  157. Nathan

It sounds like something anyone can do. But most people need t.v. or music from an ipod to get them through the day.

    December 8, 2011 at 11:48 am |

maybe i could but i would have to atleast be able to listen to music. I could go without texting, tv,and computer

There is no way i could go without any electronics i need something to keep me occupied ipod ,phone, tv something .its just not me

    December 8, 2011 at 11:49 am |
  160. Parker

it would be a really hard challenge, but i think i could do it if i really worked at it. i think that ditching technoligy would be good for kids because they will absually sleep and get their homework done without the destractions of technoligy. kids should try to get in the routine of using their technoligy for educational purposes; as in research or typing and essay.

    December 8, 2011 at 11:49 am |
  161. Genesis

I don't think I could! Technology is very useful in a lot of things.I use my phone all the time, its the only way I can communicate with my friends and family relatives.

    December 8, 2011 at 11:49 am |
  162. jared

the only way i can last 3 days is to be grounded from my phone or ipod

    December 8, 2011 at 11:49 am |
  163. Gabby

You could benefit from no technology because then there's more time for family, friends, and more time on homework. When were on cellphones we don't notice the pretty things around us, and when your on the computer you could be at the pool or doing something creative. I could probably make it because I don't usually have much technology at home.

    December 8, 2011 at 11:49 am |
  164. Robert

I Find that ditching electronics can be easy for some, and really hard for others.
People like me who have electronics like an iPhone, Laptop, iPod, ect. it can be really hard to stop using them, alot of teens and adults have grown up using modern day electronics like the radio, when trying not to use these electronics it can mess with a persons way of life, teens have kinda a daily routine, and those daily routines include your phone, music, facebook, ect.
for me it would be hard to quit, but i would say ditch the electronics.

    December 8, 2011 at 11:50 am |

i say it hard not to because i always text my friends and call people!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! =D

I think it would be really hsrd becuase that means you cant use practically anything

    December 8, 2011 at 11:50 am |
  167. Eric

I think it would be good to go without technology for three days. It will save energy. Without computers or iphones I would be more inclined to play board games and other games with my family. It would be good to have silence from technology for a few days because I will hear other things, like birds, the crickets, even my own thoughts and feelings. I think no technology will bring me closer to my family.

    December 8, 2011 at 11:50 am |
  168. Elizabeth

I think I could probably do it, but it would be very hard. It would be a good thing for your family because, you could spend more time with your family. Whenever you are always on your phone or on the computer you aren't spending time with your family, but if you go without technology for a few days you can spend more time with your family and build better relationships with your family. There are plenty of games you can play with your family without technology! Such as: sports, board games, puzzles, or just sitting down and talking to each other. I think it would be great for your family!

    December 8, 2011 at 11:50 am |
  169. Dani

The whole reason that technology was invented was to make our lives easier. Wouldn't taking it away, even if it's only for a three day period, take away the purpose of creating it in the first place? Most technology was made for individuals to enjoy. Radios with music, television with shows, and iPods with games and music. Going without technology for three days would be a challenge for most people.

I don't think I could get by three days without electronics. If I can't use the computer... I would not be able to watch CNN student and not be able to play my computer games, and that would not make me happy. I can't play with my toy's in the silence for very long,so I need my radio, I mean I NEED my radio.

    We have found some benefits...
    • No homework on the computer
    • Time to read
    • More time to play outside and we wouldn't be playing so many video games
    • Saving electricity and money on devices
    • Write more letters to friends and family
    • Playing with more toys
    • More time to play with friends
    • Move more...be active
    • Less distractions from the people around you

We did find some benefits. We thought we could do it for three days, but it would be tough!

I've gone 5 days without technology at camp. Being outside with fun stuff to do can replace electronics any day. It's harder than it looks, but if you make yourself think you can, you will.

    December 8, 2011 at 12:36 pm |
  184. Katie

I think it's a good idea, but I doubt I'd be able to live without it. Facebook is my life, the radio wakes me up every morning, I watch How I Met Your Mother every Monday...and of course, I couldn't stand not watching Carl every day!!!!!!!!!! 🙂

There are about 3 benefits to taking out tech:
Less usage of power, more time to socialize, and more time to focus on more important matters. But I personally could not go less than an hour without technology seeing as I am an addict

    December 8, 2011 at 12:37 pm |

I totally could do it, because I am an actress, so I'd treat it like doing a time peice. I'd probably get really into it and start carrying around a hand fan and a sun dial. That sounds like it would be really fun!

    December 8, 2011 at 12:39 pm |
  190. Poppy

I think i would be able to do it but it would be super hard, it would be good because it gives us more time to spend time with family and doing other things besides using electronics and it might bring our grades up too.

  191. trent

if they said in all the years he said only 3 could do it i could not go with out electronics for a week i watch teranova every monday, family guy and the simpsins, two and a half men, tyler paries meet the browns, and tyler paries house of payne.

    December 8, 2011 at 12:41 pm |

I would try my best to not use electronics, but i wouldn't be suprised if I did use them. It would really be a challenge for me because I use my phone to wake me up every morning. I would be so tempted to use my phone and radio. I use my radio all the time. It would be something I would really try to do.

I could not go without electronics for a day, week,or year cuz i love my xbox and my music to much to not play my xbox or listen to my music so it would be tough to not listen to music for a minute or hour or play my xbox for a day or year i would go crazy.

I think there are certain benefits to not having technology for a couple of days, it helps remind us about the important things in life such as spending time with family and friends.

I think going through the day without technology can really benefit the person. It saves energy not using technology and it also helps you focus in school.

Well I think I couldn’t go without technology for 3 days. But I think I can go without a phone for 3 days or more than that because I don’t got my phone no more and it isn’t no problem to me but sometime I just get bored so I go get on my computer and get on facebook .

    December 8, 2011 at 1:00 pm |

becuase i love to talk to my family

I couldn't go without computers because all of my schoolwork needs computers! We use computers in class for research, creating documents, and even taking tests. Besides that, our school announcements and homework are all posted on our school website. The Internet is becoming a huge part of our lives, for both work and play.

    December 8, 2011 at 1:05 pm |
  203. Justin

I'm Catholic and for Lent last year I gave up facebook and since I didn't have an iPod, it was easy not listening to any music. Going back on facebook after forty days felt weird. So by taking electronics out of your life, you have an easier time reflecting on your life and know what you are doing wrong and fix it.

I believe we could go without technology for 3 days if we had to. i bet most kids won't make it but some kids will.

    December 8, 2011 at 1:07 pm |
  209. Zack

For me i think i could go without texting, but on the other hand no tv or music would be hard for me. i have to give it to some people that are able to go a week. i cant even go a day without my xbox

    December 8, 2011 at 1:07 pm |
  210. Tyler

i dont know if i could do it, not only because technology is a huge part of my life, but also because i wouldnt be able to talk to people i know over the phone, or be there for them over the phone if im not there for them in person.

    December 8, 2011 at 1:07 pm |
  211. Travis

I could only go three days without electronics. Maybe 5 but a week is too much. I love to watch T.V. and go on the computer. It just isn't worth it to give up electronics. It is o.k. to be grounded, but not for a long time.

    December 8, 2011 at 1:07 pm |
  212. Gertrude

I deffinantly could go with out any electronics.........i have always had way more fun just doing things outside or with friends then being on the computer or txting someone ........

    December 8, 2011 at 1:07 pm |
  213. Angel

I definitely see a benefit to giving up technology. Today people are so engrossed in the cyber world that they do not notice the world around them. I think that as a nation we should have a day where you go camping, or hiking and leave the technology at home. Except for the necessaries of course.

    December 8, 2011 at 1:08 pm |
  214. CJ

I dont think i could go without technology because i have digital clocks all throught my house. Also because every monday i watch a movie with my dad.

    December 8, 2011 at 1:08 pm |
  215. Marissa

I can see the benifits on goining three days with out technology but, I dont think i could ever do it. One benifit would e more sleep. Second one would be more family time. Last but not least focus more on homework not texting!

    December 8, 2011 at 1:08 pm |
  216. KENZIE

I could Never go without my phone nor ipod nor internet for 3days or even 1day...unless i was grounded and it was taken away, like everything that is electronical. if your phone was taking away then how would u hang with your friends, u would have to get ahold of them first.

    December 8, 2011 at 1:08 pm |
  217. Marisa

I think it is important that kids go without there ipods or phones for a while. It teaches them to look at the world in a different way then when they have phones or ipods.

    December 8, 2011 at 1:08 pm |
  218. Caleb

Yes, if everyone did it they would see that the world was bigger than just themselves and their electronics.

    December 8, 2011 at 1:09 pm |
  219. Taylor

i don't think i could go a full week without all of that. i have gone a a month and 2 weeks with out tv, radio, or computer but i still had my phone. this would be something else that i could'nt do.

    December 8, 2011 at 1:09 pm |
  220. Hannah

This what I would do. I would walk my dog and play out side with my friends. Go on a picknet with my friends. I would go swimming with my friends and my mom and my dog

  221. Anonomys

not using technology would be stupid. yerr on crack if yu think ppl are gonna stop using technology for 3 days. most jobs require technology soooo yahhh.

    December 8, 2011 at 1:09 pm |
  222. Ben

I think we should not go a full week wihtout electronics, because I use our computers for school work, and I use my phone for the time and to talk to people.

    December 8, 2011 at 1:09 pm |
  223. Monica

It would get more kids to do other things like reading and actually get their homework done and it could help save money on the electric bill.

I think that one of the good things about no tech is people will get bored and they will go and spend time with family and friends. They will also
    be more active.

I think that without tecnology people would be healthier and not as fat

    December 8, 2011 at 1:10 pm |

People are so dependable on technology, Trying to go three day's without technology for a kid would be like a overweight man trying to not eat for 3 day's, only water. Technology is one of the greatest thing's that's ever happened to the world.

    December 8, 2011 at 1:10 pm |
  233. shawn

If we took out technology it would be a good thing to show what some of our grandparents did. We could probs have a better day or week

    December 8, 2011 at 1:11 pm |
  234. dylan

i could do that and i am starting next summer and it is a good way to teach kids what it used to be like in the olden days and to show how they used to love

i think kids would be more creative and spend more time doing active stuff rather then sitting on the couch watching t.v texting and on facebook.

    December 8, 2011 at 1:12 pm |
  239. Brian

some benefits are kids can realize that theirs more to life than being on a computer or watching TV on a nice day during summer vacation.

    December 8, 2011 at 1:13 pm |
  240. kyle

I can see many benefits for going 3 days without technology. like electricity would be saved, people wouldn't be sitting around dong nothing. But I myself could go maybe a day and a half without it.

    December 8, 2011 at 1:13 pm |
  241. Brittany

If kids went a week without technology i think they would do homework, chores, and play outside anything to not be so bored. they would have a lower electric bill, some time with the family, and maybe more bonding with everyone.

I THINK I COULD PULL IT OFF I DO IT EVERY DAY ANYWAYS

  243. Ty

Yes, doing things without technology is good. Outdoor activities are healthy and a lot more fun. Some really fun things to do instead of phones or computers are playing in the snow, reading, playing board games, snowboarding and skiing, and hanging out with friends.

    December 8, 2011 at 1:31 pm |
  244. Brianna

We depend on our cell phones to tell us what is going on in the world instead of opening our eyes and seeing for ourselves. if you get rid of technology then you for that week are part of the world not glued to that screeen of your phone.

    December 8, 2011 at 1:32 pm |

yes i could go without electronics because i really never use any electronics because this is the only time that this happens. lol

    December 8, 2011 at 1:33 pm |

i think that it would be hard to go a week without electronics because i use them every day in school. going without electronics for a week without school would be easy. i could do all sorts of things, like go outside, read a book and many other things. it would be easy if there was no school.

    December 8, 2011 at 1:33 pm |

Its hard to have no power in one of these days it kills people's work and technology. And it makes the mad or sad about waching TV or playing video games. And besides how long are you going to ceep the power off?

    December 8, 2011 at 1:39 pm |
  251. Kyle

I don't know if I could ever do that, I think the whole like concept of it is cool, but with no Face Book, no texting and no Jersey Shore?? That would be challenging

I think that the only benefit is that we will see how much we take for granite.

I think that its a great idea because the kids get to spend more time with their family and also get to hang out with their friends instead of texting them they could actully talk to them face to face and not having their face almost in the phone or electronocs

      December 10, 2011 at 4:54 pm |

The benefit is it give teens a chance to go outside and be active.

    December 8, 2011 at 1:44 pm |

    December 8, 2011 at 1:45 pm |
  262. Kali

I think there is a benefit to going a couple of days without our electronics. I think the benefit is that is would make you value the things we have today and make us think how it was back then. I bet it would make us understand why parents are having such a hard time with electronics today because they did not have all the things we have today. I think it would probably be easy for me since I don't have my own cell phone and my family does not have a TV.

    December 8, 2011 at 1:45 pm |
  263. kyle

I think there are some benefits to taking out technology like we could go outside instead of seating in front of the television and walking instead of driving and writhing notes or letters(not during class though)instead of texting.

    December 8, 2011 at 1:47 pm |

I f I go with out my phone for at least three day I would get lots and lots of message. If I go with out computer what in the world am I going to use for homework. I think Technology is very important in my life. I would not even make it one day with Technology so I really take good care of my stuff. Technology is very important in my life.

    December 8, 2011 at 1:47 pm |
  268. Nicholas

Some benefits would be more time with family. More time to do lots of things. Electronics is also something that is making people less active in reality. I believe if we totally took away Electronics. The world would be healthier.

    December 8, 2011 at 1:47 pm |
  269. ryan

its not that hard to go a week without technology you just got to say no sometimes. even I've done it and its not that hard

    December 8, 2011 at 1:48 pm |
  270. Colin

Well you get to spend a lot of more time with your family and get to share more pleasures outside , speaking of that you get more exercise because you are outside more often and not distracted by electronic devices. You also get to experience different things because your not just playing with electrical items.

    December 8, 2011 at 1:48 pm |
  271. Brandon

I think the idea of it is ridiculous and it's unfair to take every electronic away from them.

    December 8, 2011 at 1:48 pm |

I think anyone could go without electronics for three days they just choose not to or your addicted to electronics.

    December 8, 2011 at 1:48 pm |

I could not go 1 day without my Ipod or my TV. It would be very difficult because I have used them for so long.

    December 8, 2011 at 1:49 pm |

Yes I do see benefits because spending to much time with electronics can cause you to be anti-social.

    December 8, 2011 at 1:50 pm |
  275. Abbie

I could because I could go to the park or do something that doesn't involve with electronic i could read a book. technology I don't really like to use a lot .

    December 8, 2011 at 1:51 pm |
  276. ester

i see reading more many be even sleep more because some kids spend a lot of time on cell phoens at night. Also it could save energy and even poplotion

well if you go without electricity for three days i bet your bill in your house would not be as high. if we discard all electricity people would not have to pay as much money for bills.

    December 8, 2011 at 1:58 pm |
  279. Darius

I think this was a good way to see how much we depend on moderen technology cause i knooo i wont last long without music or my cell phone so it kind of a good way to see how life was without all the electronics.

    December 8, 2011 at 2:00 pm |
  280. Liz

I think with the amount of technology used on a daily basis, it would be nice to just not have it for a couple days. It would be relaxing; I think I would probably be a lot more productive with school work and actually getting good sleep.

    December 8, 2011 at 2:01 pm |
  281. Daisy

I don't see any benefits, technology has been in everyone's lives for too long to keep them from using it. we get our news from technology and we communicate with technology we depend on it for entertainment, school and work and thats okay.

    December 8, 2011 at 2:01 pm |
  282. Miranda

I think the benefit to being without technology for three days is that you will get more rest. Because I stay up really late using technology so if I could'nt then i would get more sleep.

    December 8, 2011 at 2:03 pm |
  283. Brad

In this day and age everyone is consumed with tech and can't really live with out it. I think it would be refreshing to take tech away for 3 days because it allows people to get away from life and focus on actual people .

    December 8, 2011 at 2:03 pm |
  284. Nelson

No I wouldn't live 3 days without ANY electronics becuase that would be like being alone in a desert. It would be like having a bad scary dream.

    December 8, 2011 at 2:04 pm |
  285. Sophia

I don't text alot anymore, I used to when I first got my phone. So I think I can go for a little while with my phone, BUT I don't think I can go even a day without it because even though people would still want to contact with me. Or I would need to contact people. We need technologies to keep up with everything around us. I just think that no one can live without technologies. Especially nowdays, everything is through technologies, more convience and efficient.

    December 8, 2011 at 2:04 pm |
  286. wes

Some benefits would be that a lot of kids would get up and go outside or something and i could help stop obesity

    December 8, 2011 at 2:05 pm |

It might benfit you by looking a life in a different perspective. Realizing the good in life, instead of being on your phone or other device all the time.

    December 8, 2011 at 2:06 pm |
  288. michelle

i dont think i would last without electronics because its hard for me, and i will need my phone everytime that is necessary, its because i always need to have my phone with me at all times. where ever i go, it may be an emergency.

    December 8, 2011 at 2:06 pm |
  289. Carson

I think the only thing that would be good about going without technology for 3 days is when your not looking at the screens your eyes will thank you.

    December 8, 2011 at 2:06 pm |
  290. Barrett

I think that going completly without technology will not have any benefits. But I do think that kids these days are way to dependent on technology and that they can try to interact with people face to face a little more, instead of just send a text or communicating through facebook.

    December 8, 2011 at 2:06 pm |
  291. briana

My laptops battery died last weekend so all this week i've gotten all my school work done. So maybe having limited electronics will help you with school

    December 8, 2011 at 2:07 pm |
  292. Zack

I can live without technology for a few days, as long as I have food and water. Once I was forced to go without technology for 10 days because of a power outage.

    December 8, 2011 at 2:07 pm |

    December 8, 2011 at 2:09 pm |
  297. Maygen

i can see more free time and more time focusing on school. I know if i had all my technology taken away i would probably have straight A's in school because there is no distractions.

    December 8, 2011 at 2:09 pm |
  298. Rachel

I could not go without technology for three days because thats the only way I communicate with all my friends when I am out of school. Also I would be late for school because my alarmclock has to plug into the wall and it is a electronic.

    December 8, 2011 at 2:09 pm |
  299. Vivek

There are no benefits to living wothout electronics for three days. Studying for test would require more work and long drives to school would be impossible. Electronics are what make life more exciting, they help keep in contact with others. Living without electronics is like living without food.

    December 8, 2011 at 2:09 pm |
  300. Seth

I could see many beneifits come out of not using technology for three days, One of them is that alot of people would get way more exercise throughout the day, because a lot of people sit around and just play with electronics all day.

    December 8, 2011 at 2:09 pm |
  301. Noah

I could go three days without my phone computer and tv.I have better things to I have to go to wrestling practice everyday so my time is occupied. I do not need to be texting all the time.

    December 8, 2011 at 2:10 pm |

i can not see any benifits from this because then you could not get to school on time because you would miss the bus but if i had to go without electronics i would go outside and play hockey.

    December 8, 2011 at 2:10 pm |
  303. Veronica

It will be good for me and my family cause we can spend more time together.

    December 8, 2011 at 2:11 pm |
  304. Kolton

I feel it would be rather difficult to live with out technology for three days. but one benefit would be that you would be able to be more active and go outside and play basketball in the drive way and football in the front yard.

    December 8, 2011 at 2:11 pm |
  305. Shadai

I could not go 3 days without technology because i love watching tv and plus what if we need to look at the news and see what is going on were i am and i love texting people and getting on my computer . 3 days with out technology would be the worst i would really hate it a lot..!!!!!!!!!!

    December 8, 2011 at 2:11 pm |
  306. malcolm

i would be bored with out electronics

    December 8, 2011 at 2:12 pm |
  307. Nadia

I could live three days without any electronics.....Electronics aren't everything....back in the day they didn't have all the electronics that we have to day...its not that hard to go three days without any electronics....i'm not obsessed with electonics because they arent everything...yes they do make life and things easier for us.....

    December 8, 2011 at 2:12 pm |
  308. Sydney

No i don't think i could go without any technology, because how are you going to call people if you are in trouble. Next how are you going to be able to go to sleep at night if u don't have any thing to occupy you night. Last how are you going to communicate with people you can't see around the world.

    December 8, 2011 at 2:13 pm |
  309. Steven

I CAN NOT DO THAT BUT, THERE IS A BENFIT IT WILL SAVE POWER, SO THAT OVER PEOPLE CAN USE IT.

    December 8, 2011 at 2:13 pm |
  310. James

I can not see any benefits without technology for three days. I wouldn't be able to unless if my parents say that im grounded. If im not grounded then I still wont be able to last that long.

    December 8, 2011 at 2:14 pm |
  311. zahs

I can't go 2 hours with out technolgy...

    yes

    December 8, 2011 at 2:16 pm |

No because if i had to go one week without electronics i wouldn't make through the firstt day... !

    December 8, 2011 at 2:16 pm |

I would hate going without technology! I use it all the time. I am right now!

I can't live with out my phone so i don't think i could do it

    December 8, 2011 at 2:17 pm |
  316. Matthew

Many think you can't live without electronics when it is accually easy...i dont have a phone because i dont feel like i need one. It's all just a waste of time when you could be doing other things that are more important.

    December 8, 2011 at 2:17 pm |
  317. alyssa

honestly i think i would not be able to nbot live without my phone or radio. i use it everyday and i dont like silents. i social person and if i was not able to talk to the people i talked to everyday out of school im sure things wouldn't go so well. i love my technology and would not be able to last a day with out it.

    December 8, 2011 at 2:17 pm |
  318. Ean

That would be impossible for me. Most people think about cellphones or radios but what aboy light that would stink.

    December 8, 2011 at 2:18 pm |
  319. Alex

I could go without phones and computers, but losing my iPod for a week would be torture. I sleep with my iPod playing and listen to it while doing homework–its a major stress reflief for me–so it would be hard, but I would try my best.

    December 8, 2011 at 2:18 pm |
  320. Madison

well i can,t go three days without texting because i love to text my friends late at night and i can,t go without facebook on the computer.

    December 8, 2011 at 2:18 pm |
  321. Alexis

I think that is good to challenge us not to use electronics, but we use them every single day. We use them for school, to talk to our family, and to tell people what we have been up to. You have to remember that CNN wouldn't exist without technology.

    December 8, 2011 at 2:18 pm |
  322. AJ

i think that it is a bad idea because then i wouldnt be able to watch CNN student news

    December 8, 2011 at 2:19 pm |
  323. Becki

I think that people can't make it with out techology.

    December 8, 2011 at 2:19 pm |
  324. Kailey

I could not go without technology i hate having to sit in the car listening to nothing and it makes it more awkward when there is nothing to talk about.

    December 8, 2011 at 2:19 pm |
  325. DJ

I think that the use of Electronics is a waste and a destruction to our Intelegents. So I say we should ban all ellectronics until people learn the uses of our normal devices, And I'm done because I am going to go four months without this computer.

    December 8, 2011 at 2:20 pm |
  326. Nik

there are probably people that can do that but eletronics can be very useful

    December 8, 2011 at 2:20 pm |
  327. Emily

I think that it is a good thing to see how peaceful it would be without having electronics rule your life.

    December 8, 2011 at 2:20 pm |
  328. Kaytlyn

Yes, if I had no phone or TV for 3 days, I could do it. Because you could hang out with friends& family, walk your dog, do your homework? Or something like that. It would be cool to see how many people could do it and how long?

    December 8, 2011 at 2:32 pm |
  329. Nelson

I think I can do it because I hardly ever use any electronics at my home because my family is more of an outdoor family. Technology does rule our life so it would be nice to see people try to go without technology. I also think it would be relaxing and peaceful without technology.

    December 8, 2011 at 2:33 pm |
  330. JOSE

I COULD DO IT BUT WOULD I NO

    December 8, 2011 at 2:33 pm |
  331. Levi

I think everybody could go without technology because texting makes people lazy, and technology can be a real good benefit because u should watch the news to see if a tornado is coming or something like that. People don't need facebook.

    December 8, 2011 at 2:34 pm |
  332. Desirae

I don't think I could go three days without electronics, the radio would be the hardest thing for me because every time I go in the car I don't even realize I'm listening to it. One advantage of going without is you would have more time to be with your family.

    December 8, 2011 at 2:35 pm |
  333. Schmidty

Yes, I think I could do the challenge, it would be hard but it would be FUN! I think there are some benefits, here are some: more time with family, more time outside, and cheaper bills. Some things that would be hard would be NO radio in the car and WITHOUT FACEBOOK...ugh that would be hard. I am up to the challenge!

    December 8, 2011 at 2:35 pm |
  334. Kristin

No, I couldn't live without technology for 3 days, because I couldn't listen to music, and I couldn't watch CNN student news. I do see how there are benefits though, we will save alot of energy, which is better for the Earth.

    December 8, 2011 at 2:36 pm |
  335. Ashlie

I think it would be good to try to do what the school did. I could live without electronics for a month if I needed to. The secret is BOOKS! I love to read, and that would be how I could stay off electronics.

    December 8, 2011 at 2:36 pm |
  336. jackelin

I Think I could really go without any electronics for three days or more it's actually isn't so hard. It doesn't really matter because there are so many kids and people without phones, so it not so hard to go without electronics.

    December 8, 2011 at 2:36 pm |
  337. Alexandra

Well, to be honest I think I might be able go go three days with out electronics it depends what Im not able to use. I could live without my phone, but not Facebook. I <33 Facebook..I love to chat with friends && Family. (: && if I'm not listening to music in tha car I get really bored! So I'd say No!! 😀

    December 8, 2011 at 2:36 pm |
  338. Payge

I think I could do this, but I would be tempted to use my phone or my computer. And I think that it would save a lot of energy.

    December 8, 2011 at 2:37 pm |
  339. Billy

No electronics is a good idea because no head phones means better hearing and no TV means better eye sight.

    December 8, 2011 at 2:37 pm |
  340. Summer

No!!!!! I need electronics!!!! I would jump out a window!!!! I need my TV, my ipod, and my kitchen appliances to survive!!!!!!!

    December 8, 2011 at 2:38 pm |
  341. Roi

i dont think i can do this because i see TV and listen to music almost every day and i dont think people can do something without electronics today.

    December 8, 2011 at 2:38 pm |
  342. Silvia

I can not go 3 days without technology because need to use it everyday. I hate going in a car when everything is silent. I need to use a computer each day. My MP3 is very important to me, i need it to go to sleep.

    December 8, 2011 at 2:38 pm |
  343. Ben

Yes I think I can do it because I don't really dont use my phone or computer. I do think it will be hard not wacthing tv or playing Xbox 360 but I can do it. I just need to play with my dog, lift weghts or just work out at school.

    December 8, 2011 at 2:39 pm |
  344. Ethan

I think techology would be easy to live without for a week.First you could just read or play outside. It would be hard to go with out ,but I would like extra credit.

    December 8, 2011 at 2:39 pm |
  345. Oscar

I thick some peopl will take this seiously, but all i now is that some peopl wan't just give up their phones, and games thay just want to wast their live and never get a jod.

    December 8, 2011 at 2:39 pm |
  346. Brianna

Yes, I think it would be good for us if we aren't so dependent on electronics because we need to know how to do things by ourselves. There are some benefits like we can talk to people online on Facebook and email and we can find things like weather, and what's going on in different cities or country’s!

    December 8, 2011 at 2:39 pm |
  347. Melody

I think that technology should stay for certain reasons such as phone call to mom or to dad or a 911 emergency. I also think that technology should go for certain reasons such as spending time with family. Usually people stay up late at night and play on Facebook or on their phones and that could take away from studying.

    December 8, 2011 at 2:39 pm |
  348. Michael

I couldn't live without technology cause i need to keep up with the talk at school

    December 8, 2011 at 2:40 pm |
  349. Justin

I don't see any benefits to not using technology.

    December 8, 2011 at 2:40 pm |
  350. Adrienne

Taking away electronics was a good idea and should be happening at least twice a month for the planet. Taking away the technology was good for improving the economy but for only a short time. Kids should now know how not using electronics is good for the planet and doesnt take away that much of spare time. Some kids spare time should be spent trying to be good to the planet like playing outside or helping grow and plant flowers and veggies. It would be good to spend time with mother nature because she brings nice weather and there is no use of a sunny day if you dont go outside and enjoy it.

    December 8, 2011 at 2:40 pm |
  351. Rick

    I can't I need student news!!!!!!!!!!!! ; )

    December 8, 2011 at 2:40 pm |
  352. Jo

I can't go with out my iPod or cellphone because I use them every day.

    December 8, 2011 at 2:40 pm |
  353. Brandi

I think people would be able to make at least three day. Plus not every one has technology. I mean think about all the people that dont even have electricity.

    December 8, 2011 at 2:41 pm |
  354. Michael

The benefits would probably be getting a good rest, you would probably be healthier because you wouldn't be cooped up inside the house, instead you would be active outside, and you would spend more time with your family.

    December 8, 2011 at 2:41 pm |
  355. Nora

OMG!! I love your show SO much!! i couldnt go without it...I would like DIE!! I couldnt do the challenge! I wish I could meet you! You are SO AWESOME Carl Azuz!!

    December 8, 2011 at 2:41 pm |
  356. josh

I think it will not help students in school you have to use technology in school . It will not help them in the long run.I do what so ever think you could live with out technology for one day.

    December 8, 2011 at 2:41 pm |
  357. Summer

    I can't I need Technology!!!!!!!

    December 8, 2011 at 2:41 pm |
  358. Marie

Well to be honest i would say a no because there is alot of benefits that other can and not use the technology. But i would also say a yes because its just a technology that wants you to be getting and getting different kinds of technology, but the people that can last i would be proud of them because they wouldnt waste time onthe internet and rather be doing sports or something way more interesting.

    December 8, 2011 at 2:42 pm |
  359. Sydney

I think it is kind of a good idea because if you took electronics away kids chould read and be active and do diffrent acctivities. It chould also be a bad thing though because it could make kids board and lonely because they whould have nothing to do. So it could be good and bad depending on diffrent people.

    December 8, 2011 at 2:42 pm |
  360. Jennifer

I could go three days with out all my electronics but maybe not my radio because I do my homework with it on and it's something that I use in every day life

    December 8, 2011 at 2:42 pm |
  361. Michael

I could probably live without technology cause i like to play football with my brother but i need to talk to my friends.

    December 8, 2011 at 2:43 pm |
  362. phillip

I think it is good for the students, they need to learn that technology is not everything.

    December 8, 2011 at 2:43 pm |
  363. devon

The benefits are that it could show you how glad you really should be that we have all of this technology right at our hands.

    December 8, 2011 at 2:43 pm |
  364. jazmin

I think it would be fun seeing hoe long you can last without electronics but no you should not get rid of electronics.

    December 8, 2011 at 2:43 pm |
  365. Dillon

I think taking away electronics is dumb because it limits what you can do in school and out of school. This includes computers phones radios tvs and promethean boards etc..Like in math you need a calculater to do hard problems or you use computers for tests and typing or looking stuff up.Radios everbody likes listening to music in their car or at home while doing chores.

    December 8, 2011 at 2:43 pm |
  366. bronson

There are 100% no benifits I can't live 3miniutes without my smartphone in my pocket much less three days If everyone in the world didn't use technology for three days we would walk write walk more and after a long hard day we couldn't relax and watch a tv show with a hot pocket get the picture.

    December 8, 2011 at 2:44 pm |
  367. Jaclyn

I personally don't see the benefit of taking out technology. We have made really great discoveries and come along way as country, as a world. It shows that we intelligent and capable of amazing things.

    December 8, 2011 at 2:44 pm |
  368. Carter

Yes, a few benefits could be getting lots more sleep, and not having distractions so that you can get things like HW done.

    December 8, 2011 at 2:44 pm |
  369. Samantha

I think I couldn't live with out technoelgy because if we didn't, if there was an emegancy, you wouldn't have any home phones or cell phones to call anyone. If there wasn't any tv then you couldn't hear the news. If there wasn't any light you would always run into something and youwouldn't be able to see anything at night.

    December 8, 2011 at 2:44 pm |

i think every one would die of bourdness

    December 8, 2011 at 2:44 pm |

I think that its not a good idea because people need to use there electronics to do there work and to check important emails

    December 8, 2011 at 2:44 pm |
  372. sarah

I think it is good to use electronics because it is useful like the internet for researching things. But I could go a while without a cellphone but I think it is.

    December 8, 2011 at 2:44 pm |
  373. Bryce

No I do not see any benefits on taking out technology because it can be use to learn a lot more with technology. I do not think this is a good idea

    December 8, 2011 at 2:44 pm |
  374. nathan

i think that there are other benefits to not using electronics all day instead of texting you could go to their house and talk to them

    December 8, 2011 at 2:44 pm |
  375. Kaci

I think it is a good thing because we could save energy and if one day we ran out of power we would be bored and well I even rely on technology for reading because I use my iPod to read on the Internet.

    December 8, 2011 at 2:44 pm |
  376. Coletin

I think it is a good idea for The week challenge! I think it will make people not as addicted to our electronics, I will be honest I would try my hardest and I would Succeed but others it may be really hard to not use their phone, TV ,iPod, Radio, And Computer FACEBOOK!!!!!!!!! But I Would Try My Hardness. It might even make people less lazy from not sitting on the couch eating a bag of potato chips! Well I Like It.(:

    December 8, 2011 at 2:45 pm |
  377. Jacob

no there is no benefit but i guess the only thing you would learn is the things you would take for granite and i certainly could not go with out technology i don't think any one can cause you use light the only way you can live without technology is if you trained to be a cave man

    December 8, 2011 at 2:45 pm |
  378. bunny

i could not live with out technology .......I don't think i would live.........But i think that old people could because they don't have a life!!!!!!!!`

    December 8, 2011 at 2:45 pm |
  379. Patrick

Electronics are good for some things but other things they are not all that good for others, we didn't use technology for things in the past.

    December 8, 2011 at 2:46 pm |
  380. Ethann

I don't think I could I depend entirely on technology and need for connection, entertainment, fun, and school.

    December 8, 2011 at 2:46 pm |
  381. Selina

I wouldn't last because I use my Ipod every second of the day listing to music and letting my nephew play my games...

    December 8, 2011 at 2:46 pm |
  382. Victor

I think it would be okay living without technology because if you try the challenge and fail you are very weak minded. Somehow other people survived before us without technology. It's only a temptation and it is really a challenge for most because we are used to it. There are pros and cons for both arguments but technology is always gonna be there, why waste youth on it if you have it better in 10 or 20 years?

    December 8, 2011 at 2:46 pm |
  383. hannah

i don't think i could go three days without my electronics it would not be fun at all . i would die in an heart beat i love electronics . i can't any way because we use laptops every day at school so i cant take that challenge. sorry i would if i could i really would it would be fun but it wont fly by me to never use electronics.

    December 8, 2011 at 2:47 pm |

I can not stand without technology because I wouldn't be able to call anyone.

    December 8, 2011 at 2:48 pm |

I would not be able to go 3 days.

    December 8, 2011 at 2:50 pm |
  387. Zach

I think it is a good idea because it shows kids how life was back then.

    December 8, 2011 at 2:50 pm |
  388. Ryleigh

It would benefit because you could do more things instead of being distracted with electronics.

    December 8, 2011 at 2:52 pm |
  389. Andrew

I think i could go about three hours without my computer. Any longer and I might go completely insane.

    December 8, 2011 at 2:52 pm |
  390. Charlie

I'd say the only benefits of going without technology for a few days are spending more time with family and being active outside.

    December 8, 2011 at 2:53 pm |
  391. Jasmine

I can see any benefits to going without technology for three days is that it might help spending more time with family, friends, get you out doors and go do some exercise and play guitar or do other active things.

    December 8, 2011 at 2:53 pm |
  392. Zach

I think its a good idea because, it teaches kids how there is other things to do besides using electronics.

    December 8, 2011 at 2:53 pm |
  393. Tina

I don't think I can ever go through a day without technology. I might not need it for myself cause there are things to do without technology but I need technology for school.

    December 8, 2011 at 2:53 pm |
  394. DAISY

I think i could probably do that but i would still have that feeling of wanting to use them to check Facebook!

No because we are teenages that we can do not live with out technology.

    December 8, 2011 at 2:55 pm |

& also i cant stay away from music.

    December 8, 2011 at 2:56 pm |

One major benefit I see in not using technology is that it would make more people go outside and live more active lives.

    December 8, 2011 at 2:56 pm |
  398. Anna

I think that the benifts of going without technology would be that we woul have more free time for doing stuff. since we are so dependent on our electronic devices, not having them would give us time to put more attention on what we do in our daly lives.

    December 8, 2011 at 2:58 pm |
  399. saira

no because i do not live with out mine phone is like if i dont have a life i feel insecure.

    December 8, 2011 at 2:58 pm |
  400. Amanda

There are a couple benefits for going without technologies for 3 days. You mite get more sleep, because you wont have all of the distractions, and you would be staring at a screen.

    December 8, 2011 at 2:58 pm |
  401. Samantha

I think 3 days with the right circumstances could be extremely beneficial, however now and days, many people are used to the instant gratification and depend on electronics to set up any kind of meeting or get together... so if a person does this randomly, they should expect 3 days alone because everyone else will probably be busy with their happy routines.

    December 8, 2011 at 2:59 pm |
  402. Michael

I thinks it's a bad idea because we need electronic things to get through stuff.

    December 8, 2011 at 2:59 pm |
  403. Brandon

To be quite honest, There is no real benefit in "going without technology". this is due to the fact that everyone, somewhere somehow, has used technology. Everywhere in this world there is some form of techonology, so in factual reference, I myself would be ABLE to last thre days without it all, but i see no point in this time of space between it all.

    December 8, 2011 at 2:59 pm |
  404. Emilie

I couldn't go that long without technology because it's necessary for school to use computers and plus I have to keep contact with my friends throughout the day with my phone.

    December 8, 2011 at 2:59 pm |
  405. Jesse

I honestly don't believe I could go without technology for 1 day, let alone 3 days. At my school, most of the homework is electronically submitted and assigned via computer, and the vast amount of sources to use for research is right at your fingertips. Also, my handwriting is terrible. There are healthy benefits, however such as less eye strain (as looking at a computer does not allow your eye to focus); because of this, the use of glasses has increased drastically over a 20 year time frame (do you like the pun?).

    December 8, 2011 at 2:59 pm |
  406. Jon

Well I know for a fact that i can and have done this, every summer i go to summer camp and the ride there we play cards, or eye spy because no technology aloud at all. And when we are there we can't use technology so the whole time going there, being there, and come home you can't use it, and the whole i have fun and enjoy the experience.

I don't think there would really be any benefits. Because it just says that you can go with out technology.

    December 8, 2011 at 3:00 pm |

You can go outside, pay some soccer instead of staring at a computer screen all day.

No I couldn’t go three days with out technology, because I listen to my iPod every time I work out, I get on my computer to build architectural things. I always text it’s an addiction so yah I couldn’t go three days with out technology

    December 8, 2011 at 3:02 pm |
  411. Richie

I think going with out electronics is a bad idea because then we will not be able to communicate as well but if your on to long that is bad for you
P.S. everyone that says it is good to take it away why are they on the computer

    December 8, 2011 at 3:08 pm |
  412. cody

It would be a lot harder for people to get news, job postings and learning about certain topics. It would take us back to the stone age. A good thing is it would lessen bullying. Another good thing is it would increase social skills because we would not text we would go see other people.

i couldn't image a world with teleology i can't even go an hour with out it

I think it gives an example of being in the older days when there were no technology and only radio.

    December 8, 2011 at 3:24 pm |
  415. Autumn

I think this challenge would be a great experience. People these days rely on electronics. Lots of people do everything online. It would be benificial if young people could fell how the world used to be, and that technology isn't everything.

    December 8, 2011 at 3:26 pm |
  416. Andrew

it could be turning us back to the 17hundreds where farmers from nebraska can work on farms and wait and keep livestock. so we can not be so worry wortes to get the newest thing we would be grateful for there stuff.

I can never go without technology car rides would be really awkward without any music. I'm also on my cellphone a lot

There are a lot of benefits for not using technology. Without technology you would probaly spend more time with family and neighbors. The obesity rate would probaly decrease, because more children and adults would go outside and excersize more instead of being in....... well thats if they would live without it. But there are also benefits to having them.

    December 8, 2011 at 3:32 pm |

i would say no because without technology it would be very hard.
like trying to go without food for a couple a days. it would be impossible to do any way because at my school most of all our work is done on our computers. (i think you rock)

    December 8, 2011 at 3:43 pm |
  421. Nate

No I don't think there is Benefits because some kids might not have anything to do if they don't have electronics

I think not having electronics can be good for your health like physical and mental because you not sitting down in front of a computer all day but electronics are needed sometimes

I think that this is a blouses Adah because it give a chance for the kids to get the face out of there screens and do something active, it also gives then a chance to get extra credit.

    December 8, 2011 at 3:45 pm |
  428. Brooke

I can see how you can get some benefits out of not using electronics for 3 days. It would freshen your brain. It would get you in the habit of wanting to do other things, that don't include electronics, like going walking, reading, and just getting out of the house for some fresh air. But, one thing I could not live without is my i pod, or radio. Music is everything, it's boring without music. But without my phone I'd do fine.

    December 8, 2011 at 3:45 pm |
  429. Marisol

Some people might think it is easy some people might not. I could live without electronics. It might get tempting, but it is work it because you would be setting an example for other people that electronics it is way more fun hanging out with friends and family.

    December 8, 2011 at 3:46 pm |

Some people might think it is easy some people might not. I could live without electronics. It might get tempting, but it is worth it because you would be setting an example for other people that electronics isn't that important it is way more fun hanging out with friends and family.

I think it would not be good because we would go back to reading and writing and at school we use the computers at school to tip on the computer and make the computer read to use too.

    December 8, 2011 at 3:51 pm |
  433. Eric

I think I could go three days without technology because I play football outside with my friends. And the benefits going without technology would be more sleep and you can spend more time with family than just sitting on the floor, trying to shoot players with your M4A1 or your Barret 50. cal.

    December 8, 2011 at 3:54 pm |
  434. Mae

I think it would be kinda good and bad 50/50.Because some kids love there tech much that they forget to do they work . It's bad because we won't able to know some things that can ONLY find in internet and we WON"T able to watch STUDENT NEWS ;D

    December 8, 2011 at 3:58 pm |
  435. Dawn

I think its a good idea beacuse we are just taking advantages of all the technology today. If we got rid of all technology we can see the brighter days like going outside playin sports and stuff like that. All we are doing is being couch potatoes watching tv, and texting people all day. Technology is making us stupid and has us depend on little thing and its just plain common sense.

    December 8, 2011 at 4:05 pm |
  436. Christina

I can't do the challenge...i love to listen to music! I try once and it was hard (for a day). The best thing out of it, is that i hang with my family the whole day but we listen to music a lot. Which was awesome!

Amazing people go out into the world and invent amazing products, so how could anybody think of a benefit for not using technology? But, for extra credit, goodbye amazing ipod touch!

    December 8, 2011 at 4:48 pm |

I think you should see how good it would be if you just went a week without having technology rule your life.

    December 8, 2011 at 4:52 pm |
  439. Kathleen

I think that is good and bad for us to have electronics. We use it to communicate and work, but we also use it to entertain ourselves. If we didn't have most electronics, it could mean more time outside, more time with friends and less time on the computer and in front of the TV.

    December 8, 2011 at 4:55 pm |
  440. Matt

The benefits of not using technology is that it teaches kids about how life was back in the early 1900s when there wasn't many electric devices. Kids then went outside and did things like play baseball or have an ice cream cone with their friends.

    December 8, 2011 at 5:07 pm |
  441. Maya

I think It would be a good thing to go 3 days without electronics. Think just how much electricity could be saved. Everybody uses electronics. Why can't a person go 3 days with out electronics? It would help the environment. People did not used to have the things we have now. They did not have problems going 3 days without electronics, so in my opinion I think more people should try not to play electronics.

    December 8, 2011 at 5:18 pm |
  442. Joseph

Just like you thought about technology when you were using it, Carl, everyone had to use technology to respond to this. This makes me think that even if I tried to go without my iPhone and the TV, I would not be able to stay off a computer. During the school week I am using a laptop every day. ( And I agree with AJ it would be a shame not to watch CNN student news!) I think it would benefit us to leave some electronics for three full days, but for some people it has become an un-avoidable part of our lives.

    December 8, 2011 at 5:18 pm |
  443. Joella

I personally think that it is a very good idea because you can sit back relax, talk with family members enjoy your dinner without having the television blaring in the next room. You can even read. Do something educational!

    December 8, 2011 at 5:19 pm |
  444. Kendra

Technology keeps you away from your family. It keeps you from doing things you love, and the computer takes time away from your homework.

    December 8, 2011 at 5:20 pm |
  445. lizzy

Some benefits to going without technology are kids can learn how much technology means to us and our families and to appreciate it.

    December 8, 2011 at 5:30 pm |
  446. Piperanne

Every day we use technology without even realizing it. In today's world, it is almost impossible to do anything without using technology at all. That is definitely a challenge!

    December 8, 2011 at 5:37 pm |
  447. Shaena

I think that going without technology for three days will help people take a better look at life. They might find something out that they never knew, and it will also teach them about how life was before technology. People my age were born in technology, maybe we need little break so we aren't so dependent on technology.

    December 8, 2011 at 5:39 pm |
  448. Mxyl

It would be difficult, but possible. My family and I are doing something on the web daily for 200 days (millionrosesfortheworld.org), but other than that I could do it if someone's life would depend upon it. It WOULD be almost impossible, though. I think that it is very good for people to take occasional breaks (maybe not 3 whole days, though) to actually say hello to the real world. Did anyone else notice the irony that we're commenting about taking out technology on a piece of technology?

    December 8, 2011 at 5:40 pm |

The bentifs for no technolgoy is it can save brian cells and cut down on obsession for kids.

I think it is a very good idea to go three days without technology, because it will make us realize how much we have and how lucky we are. I think I could go three days without technology, but it would be hard not to have my cellphone.

    December 8, 2011 at 5:55 pm |

Our grandparents didn't have much technology themselves and they survived. We all have to learn not to be so dependent on electronics.

I think that it is a good idea to get in touch with our ancestors, so to speak. However, it would be a good idea to keep a phone on hand during public events in case of an emergency.

I once went forty days without using my iPod. I can now say from experience that it is hard to go without it, but not impossible.

I think going without technology is a good idea. Kids and teens use technology too much. It is better to talk to someone verbally instead of texting. I don't think I could make it with out technology for a week but I think it is a good challenge.

You become more curious, I think, and instead of relying on technology, one can start to read the local or national news paper . Anyways have you heard that putting your phone close to your head might give you cancer? Just wanted to point that out.

    December 8, 2011 at 6:49 pm |

I think that it will make a person more curious about whats happening in the real world. I mean, you can always read your local or national newspaper. Anyways, have you heard that holding up your phone near your ears can give you brain cancer? Just wanted to point that out.

My teacher also did this experiment. It went really well! We spent more time with our families and we have better grades from it as well! It was a fun learning experience that I think other teachers should try!

Our ancestors did perfectly well without electronics, so why cant we? Without the distraction of video games, i-pods, computors etc., I think teens will have more time to work on their homework, and therfore get better grades.

  469. Raine

There are benefits to going 3 days without technology because it gives you the ability to spend time with friends and family and to go outside more often instead of being on your phone all day.

    December 8, 2011 at 7:16 pm |
  470. Katie

I think it should not be so hard for students to go without technology for just one week out of their lives. Back in the 1800s there was no phones, texting, Wii, or Xbox, and they were able to go without it, so why should it be so hard for kids to do it now?

    December 8, 2011 at 7:17 pm |
  471. Katie

I barely use technology anyways, so it would be easy for me to go a week

    December 8, 2011 at 7:18 pm |

I think that using electronics is a big help to kids these day just because of school work and such. But to much can waste your life.

    December 8, 2011 at 7:18 pm |
  473. Caroline

There are many people in the world that don't have ANY technology but their perfectly happy with life, maybe even happier than us. Enjoy life with your friends and families instead of with your TV, iPod, computer, etc. You also save money.

    December 8, 2011 at 7:18 pm |
  474. Nathan

The benefits of no technology and electronics is that you are helping the environment by doing so. Also if you're always in your bedroom playing video games your never active and never spending time with your family.

    December 8, 2011 at 7:19 pm |
  475. tyler

if i had no technology I would go outside and exercise and play with my friends. It would not be hard for me becuse a lot of my friends live on my street. i dont believe that all kids could do this because texting and playing video games has become America's new past time.

It would be hard but i might try it.......but in life you really have to think, what if benjamin franklin never used his kite and we had no electricity in the first place. then we would be perfectly normal without this amazing thing we have now, im not going to try it because i may get in trouble at school for doing it, but just think.

    December 8, 2011 at 7:26 pm |
  479. Nathan

It's an easy job to go without electronics as long as your not a T.V bum or video game bum. If your like me going 3 days without electronics is like going 3 days without veggies, no effect at all.

    December 8, 2011 at 7:30 pm |
  480. Kaleb

I think it may be diffucult for kids like us to go without electronics or any other applanices with batteries and outlets. Because we are so use to it that we will probulay won't let go. I love my Mp3 player alot and I listen to it a lot on my bus. Well that means ELECTRONICS will alwayyyyysssss be with me.

i think it would be a good idea for kids to try to go three days without electronics so your brain does not turn to mush.

    December 8, 2011 at 7:37 pm |
  483. Andres

Although it may seem like a good idea to stop using technology for a couple of days to enjoy the outdoors or a nice sunny day, most people can't live without techonology. The world revolves around technology and without people wouldn't be able to communicate as we do now, and if it weren't for techonlogy we wouldn't have been able to watch this show or even comment on it. Yes it is good to stop playing video games and play some reall games and sports, but without technology we would just be lost, and if we can't appreciate what we have, then i don't know where we would be.

    December 8, 2011 at 7:45 pm |

I think it wouldn't be easy for most teens because we rely on our technology but it benefits you by allowing you to spend more time with people and do something instead of pushing people away from you.

    December 8, 2011 at 8:01 pm |
  486. Taylor

I believe there are benefits to having no electronics. There aren't any distractions and frustrated teachers. Also, getting to bed on time and sleeping the entire time is healthy. To learn what it was like before electronics is important, we learn that we are very lucky and don't take them for granted.

    December 8, 2011 at 8:02 pm |
  487. Sofeen

Electronics have been part of my life ever since i can remeber. On a average day i text about 500 messages to friends. I also watch t.v. right after school, it may seem impossible to do, but yes i thiink i can go without electronics for a week. For humans, electronics has now become part of our daily lives, and is now a habit. I think that this is very wasteful and takes up so much of our lives, when we could be spending them more intelligently.

    December 8, 2011 at 8:12 pm |
  488. Desiree

I personally think that going without technology would be extremely difficult but it shows you the real side of things. Not only how people lived in the "old days" but how it feels to spend more time with your family.

    December 8, 2011 at 8:13 pm |
  489. Parker

One benifit from not being able to use technology is, it would make people of this days generation more resourceful than if they know how to download an app.

    December 8, 2011 at 8:13 pm |
  490. Natasha

It would be good to go without electronics, but people today have got acustomed, also it would be nice to have family time. However, I would not make it.

    December 8, 2011 at 8:17 pm |
  491. Grace

I think that it would be hard for people to give up electronics because we rely on them so much to give us entertainment, information on whats happening in the world, etc. However for people that do not use electronics on a daily basis it would be much easier.

    December 8, 2011 at 8:21 pm |
  492. Cydney

Well your appreciation for technology will definitely increase. Also for some people they can practice the skill of looking things up in books, singing loudly and off key in the car instead of radios, handwriting essays etc.

    December 8, 2011 at 8:24 pm |
  493. Rachel

if you have your head in electronics all the time you miss spending quality time with your family and that is a really important thing.

    December 8, 2011 at 8:40 pm |
  494. Haley

There are definitely more benefits of going without technology; we could spend more time with our families and friends instead of having our heads stuck in the TV or computer all day!

    December 8, 2011 at 8:46 pm |
  495. katie

Ii know I can because I am very active maybe if we take out technology teens would get outside and talk to friends in person instead of texting them or play football instead of watching it.

    December 8, 2011 at 9:01 pm |
  496. Mateya

I could not go without electronics for a WHOLE week, that would be really almost impossible for me to do sense i text my friends so much! I get how the students in the high school could not do it, because it is really hard to listen to silents in the car and to not text your friends.

    December 8, 2011 at 9:06 pm |

I could go a month without electrionics because I live with a VERY active family!

how do you expect us not to use electronics when we have to just to answer your question. 🙂

    December 8, 2011 at 9:13 pm |
  499. Cassidy

I doubt I could live without my cell phone but you have to look back at past generations because they lived without all this technology! Of course without all the electronics you can spend more time with your family and friends. You also go outside more and stay active instead of being a lazy couch potato

    December 8, 2011 at 9:16 pm |
  500. JADA :)

I think its a good thing because usualy when you get on punishment you go without phones and tv and it would be a good lesson because you would learn to be thankful for technolgy like that and learn how less fourtunate kids dont have everything you have!

    December 8, 2011 at 9:18 pm |
  501. Margaret

I know I would definitely find benefit in taking away all electronics I have for a week. I would focus more on what needs to be done. Also, when the week is over, I'll have a new view of technology and be more sparing on my electronic activities.

We all know that the world revolves around technology. We have lost our personal touch.

I think it's a good thing that kids and teens are getting off the computer and cell phones because it's unhealth to just look at a computer screen all day.

    December 8, 2011 at 9:55 pm |
  506. Malvina

I don't think anyone could o without technology nowadays because most of us grew up around it and so we are mostly attached to it and so used to it that it is kinda like a living style for us and we just cannot help it.

Electronics are nice and all, but through personal experience, they take you away from reality. When I ditched most electronics for a semester, I saw all of my grades improve. Today, I try to limit my electronic time and am able to keep up my grades. Basically, electronics can be compared to desserts; they're good occasionally, but not all the time.

I think that it's sad that some people couldn't go a few days without playing Angry Birds or listening to a radio. What would these people (and probably most Americans) do if there were some sort of global electric shutdown? Technology can be good, but people shouldn't become relient it, especially for entertainment purposes?

I think there is a great benefit in not having electronics because without electronic we have more time to do homework, study, and go to bed on time and drop the rate of kids falling asleep in class

I think that going without electronics is a horrible way to get extra credit. What if you had to do homwork on the computer or like me watch CNN Student News for homework. And why does th radio count? A lot of people listen to the radio in the car anf they watch the news channel. I think it's just ridiculous!

There are many benfits to leaving behind electronics, for any period of time. We would be more active, less dependent, and many more. I think this is a tough, but eye-opening challenge for teenagers now because of how reliant we have become on our social life through our cell phones, ipods, ect.

u could see how people in the olden days lived.... honestly i couldn' go a day w/out turnin on the radio or plugging my earbudds in to my ears to lisen to music

i think it is a benefit because you can play more and read a whole lot more!

I think I would be able to go with out using technology for 3 days, I have before it was very difficult but once you get past that first day you will be fine. Some benefits would be that because your not sitting down you would be walking around and exercising . Plus, because you are so bored you would probably find new and creative ways to have fun.

I find it kind of funny that all these people are saying living without tech is like living without food and water. I am pretty sure people lived thousands of years without tech? Yes we are dependent of it but it is not like we would die if we did not have it for a week. Things would be more difficult like keeping in contact with people but once again for thousands of years people did not even know there were other people.

I think its a bad thing to take out technology because the world revol around technology and it make things happen and it will make students go crazy.

I think kids could benefit from not using electronics. They might be a big parts of society, but that doesn't mean they will be there for your every need. It's good to know how it feels to live without them, even the older day ones.

Not many teenages these days can go without eletronics. Little things we use everyday like our phones. It can be useful to go without it for a while but it's not like we know how to go without it. We were brought up around eletronics.

yes...I do because for one it saves POWER!! hello people, everybody everywhere is all about green stuff and never worrying about what that is doing to our world. for two, it can help people do things that are apart from the modern world like using a dictionary, a lot of people depend on dictionary.com or Google for that matter. my classroom has at least 5 dictionaries and 2 thesaurus.

I don't agree with you guys. You say you could do better in schools without elctronics. That means no calculators. Calculators are so useful in schools these days, you would likely see your grades drop in Math without a calculator, unless you are very good in that subject.

    December 9, 2011 at 9:32 am |

You could develop a greater appreciation for technology.

I think that if I had to go without technology it would be hard but I could get used to it. I would probably benefit because I would be more active and focus more on school. Overall though I would not want my phone and computer taken away from me, the radio would not bother me as much as the rest.

Some people may think thats a good thing. But as the years go on, more and more and technology and electronics are going to be invented. They will be more complex and more useful. Today we only have the simple electronics. Tommorow, there is more in store for us.

    December 9, 2011 at 9:49 am |

I think that I could not live without electronics for a DAY! I use electonrics everyday. I use them on the bus, the radio in the car, I use my laptop for homework, my MP3 player, my radio in my room, and I watch movies on my TV. I don't beleive how other people dont' use electonics. It's a good thing that those smart people like Steve Jobs and other people invented all of the cool things today!

I think it's a wonderful idea, but I'm not sure I'd be able to commit to it. It just shows how this generation has become so dependent on technology. I'd try, but surely fail. There's nothing worse than being dependent on something that might one day be taken away from you. Then you'd have to become accustomed to how it was B.C.

    December 9, 2011 at 12:45 pm |
  538. Travis

It is good idea, but i don't think i could that long with out using any electronics. Some kids could last that long but not me. I use it on a every day basis.

  539. skylar

    December 9, 2011 at 12:53 pm |

I can see more free time and more time focusing on school. I know if i had all my technology taken away i would probably have straight A's in school because there is no distractions.

I don’t think I could go for three days without technology but I might go for a day but the only way I’ll do it if someone pays me for 20 dollars I would have to have my T.V every night and if we didn’t have technology I couldn’t have computer, T.V, cell phone, or the radio in my car. I think I could go for one I don’t know I think I will have to take the challenge to find out if I can do it but I think I could go for a day and realize that technology is very important in our daily lives.

Some benefits are You don't ignore your brothers & sisters. When you have a phone so it would be good for teens to give up their phone for three days, because they can spend more time wit their families, and its better because when your in class you don't get distracted.

I think few people would be able to go 3 days without tech stuff. I can, but some people I know in my grade flush down all their time by playing video games. Its pretty easy. But still, we should look back at the times when we didn't have electronics. If they could do it we can too.

    December 9, 2011 at 2:51 pm |

If you take away the cell phone, the TVs, and the computer I think kids would become more active and they might get out of the house for a while. I honestly don't think i could go with out my cellphone. My cellphone is the one way i contact most people.

I could definetly make it a few days (maybe even a week) without technology, but our schools techincally use more technology than we do in some cases. In conclusion i guess i could try but typing this comment in on my computer isnt a good start 🙂

    December 9, 2011 at 5:14 pm |

I think that we should all go a week with no electronics to see how much power we save as a nation.we all depend on electronics so much that it is an addiction and causes obesity . They are very unhealthy.

hi, i would not be able to not one day without my phone, Nintendo, iPod touch. iPad, TV,(etc) because i would be just too bored and most likely loose my mind although i could one day with out electronics because i enjoy reading so much.

No, because i watch TV and play on my Wii (TM) almost everyday and i know that cutting All electronics would be a great way to save the environment but if i did i would probably die by late afternoon on the first day

To me it would be beneficial to live three days with out technology. I think we should all try going with out it. Maybe kids could find that it's better to see the world with out our smart phones and computers.

  562. Chris

If we didn't use electronics, the world would be a tragedy, but it'd be nice to get away from them awhile. An hour of sun light on a solar panel could power our world for a year, so how 'bout giving it a shot?

I think electronics rots your brain except for computer. Put down that game controller and get outside and go play.

    December 10, 2011 at 11:27 am |
  568. Kelly

Music is very important to me so I listen to music on the radio. Living without technogly would mean no music.

    December 10, 2011 at 12:20 pm |
  569. Katie

Some benefits from not using technology are that you are more independent on using your creativity. My generation is too dependent on watching tv or getting on the computer when they're bored. 20 years ago more kids would go outside and play a game of football or basketball when they got bored. Instead of sitting on a couch all day they would go out and exercise, which is part of the reason why the obesity rate is increasing. Not using technology is a huge benefit for our generation and could really do us all some good.

    December 10, 2011 at 2:02 pm |
  570. tom

it dose not help me or hurt me if my electronics, but that would only last a day. i would not live without my computer!

    December 10, 2011 at 3:00 pm |
  571. Miranda

I think I could go without any electronics for 3 days or more. Once you get the hang of not using electroncis, you'll get used to it, at least in most cases. It'll make you think more on how to have fun and will get you more excercise than you had before you started to not use electronics.

    December 10, 2011 at 3:06 pm |
  572. Tracey

Taking a break from technology and electronics is a good thing to do. Most people depend on it, so taking a break for a few days will teach them how lucky we really are to even have technology these days. Not only will it excercise more, but will get you better grades and make you think more on how to have fun...without electronics.

    December 10, 2011 at 3:15 pm |
  573. Rachel

There are absolutely benefits to giving up technology. You get more time outside, more time to read, and more time to spend with family.

    December 10, 2011 at 4:16 pm |
  574. CodiAnne

We could go without electronics because My brothers are always on either the x-box or on the computer so i think me and my siblings could do it if there was no electronics around! I don't know why someone would invent a thing called "electronic" It makes me mad!!

    December 10, 2011 at 4:43 pm |

I'd try to live three days without technology, but i know it won't work out. i say this because technology is part of our enviroment. phone and tv i could do. but computer definitley not. Especially when i'm surrounded by a family who uses technology every hour!

    December 10, 2011 at 6:18 pm |
  577. Eve

I think that people shoud go play out side more instead of use technology becuse it makes you strong and healthy instead of technology beside's i think playing outside is funer and if you have a trampoline you can play on it and technolong is not as fun as a trampoline.

    December 10, 2011 at 7:32 pm |
  578. Joyce

i think that perhaps it would be good for all of us to get a break from electronics. It would help you study for your tests. We should use our brains instead of the automated little creatures doing our "natural" thinking for us.

    December 10, 2011 at 7:32 pm |
  579. Rhonda

By taking out technology it would have us as kids to see what our parents and grandparents grew up without computers, television, ipods, cell phones, and other stuff. And maybe more kids would be force to get more active and lower the obesity rate? I think that it would be a good thing but how many kids let alone teenagers would go for it?

    December 10, 2011 at 8:48 pm |
  580. Enrique

I could easily live without electronics. I think that if people didn't have electronics, they would be more active and more socialable with others. You would most likely do better in school without electronics being a distraction.

I think that would be a easy becuse people need to get off of they'ar phones so they can have fun outside and if we did't use techolnogy we can't wach CNNSTUDENT NEWS and you woud not get news to us and it would't be that fun

    December 10, 2011 at 11:40 pm |
  585. Adacelys

I think going without technology for a couple of days would benifit for our society, at least for our youth. We depend really heavily on techonology and one day we might not have it. With all the technology we have right now, nobody really sits down to write someone a letter anymore, many teens are almost always on facebook, and spending hours in front of the TV definetly isn't helping society. Before we had ipods and cell phones and computers and all that, life was probably much simpler.

    December 11, 2011 at 11:20 am |
  586. megan

i could not have 3 days without electronics because Christmas is coming and over the years people have been trying to make are world techie! electronics are useful. like kids would not be watching CNN student news at school! SO GO ELECTRONICS!!!

    December 11, 2011 at 11:41 am |
  587. Brienna

Yes. It would be great for kids to have time to interact with nature.
When I hear my friends complaining that they got their phones taken away, "I'm like. Good. You should be thanking your parents. The are helping you relaize that not everything revolves around that little thing with a screen in your hand". 3 days from technology? No problem. Nature, here I come!

    December 11, 2011 at 1:04 pm |

I think it would be great for the teens to get out and active but I don't think it would be a good idea to take technology from them because they need to talk to there friends out side of school

    December 11, 2011 at 3:13 pm |
  590. Rasim

I Think we need technology in our world, for example, how im typing this to you. If this was the 1800s, these messages would have to be done by mail and would take days to arrive, this ways better.

    December 11, 2011 at 3:28 pm |

yes i probably could because i rarely ever watch tv text or play videogames because i have so much homework that i need to keep up with

  595. Monica

There would be so many benefits from going for three days without electronics. It would be a nice way to pause everything, a good chance to disconnect, which is often very hard for some of us. It could also lead to a change, it could give you time to reflect and maybe give more time to other things than electronics.

    December 11, 2011 at 8:22 pm |
  596. Jacee

Honestly, I don’t see that many benefits to taking out technology in this day and age. Technology has become such a big part of our lives that I know I couldn’t do it. Technically, even cars are technology, so that means I couldn’t even get to school. I rely on technology the most for communication, and not being able to talk to my friends from other towns would be the hardest part of going without it. The benefits could be I might be able to get all of my homework done, and that I could really get a lot of quality reading time in.

    December 11, 2011 at 11:55 pm |
  597. Bryce

It would be extremely hard, but that means teachers wouldn't be able to give us any homework that needs electronic devices!

    December 12, 2011 at 12:18 am |
  598. Kathy

It may be hard to go without technology at first but I think it would help both humans and the environment. Depending on technology isn't good for your health. Also, electromagnetic waves can kill bees. If bees die, plants wouldn't be able to propagate.

    December 12, 2011 at 2:45 am |
  599. Kodi

I really don't think that I could survive without electronics. I wouldn't be able to do the majority of my homework (using a computer to look up facts and find worksheets on my teacher's website), and I would just be bored to death for 3 days!
I can see the benefits of this idea however:
    1. I would be more focused on my homework and not spend time watching television, or gaming.
    2. With my free time, I could read, and learn more higher-level vocabulary words.
    3. When I have to do chores, I won't be distracted by games or television, I would be so bored that doing chores would actually seem fun!

    December 12, 2011 at 7:40 am |
  600. Monique :)

I wouldn’t see any benefits going without technology, in our daily lives we use so much that it would throw us off. At school our teachers teach with technology every day, they use computers to show what is going on in the world. If we had to go without technology there would be no news or anything for that matter. Our lives are so surrounded by it that we wouldn’t know what to do. I think it’d be a good project to assign but if so you might want to check with other teachers to make sure they’re not assigning a project that has to be done with technology.

    December 12, 2011 at 9:13 am |
  601. Aaron

Well one benefit would be people would get some fresh air outside instead of playing there video games or talking to there friends on their phones or Facebook.

If you sit there and think about it for a while, I believe that I could go without for electricity for 3 days, even though it would be extremely diffucult. I think it would be a great school project to challenge the students, and I think that it is really neat a teacher would assign such a diffucult task. I think that the hardest challenge in those three days without electronics would be giving up kitchen appliances: a fridge, an oven, a stove, ect.

The benefits are that the teen gets to spend more time with family, but the downside is that kids might go crazy because they might think that there family is annoying and does nothing within those three days. I think that I can go three days without electronics by playing with my siblings.

I know that people all around the world are extremely dependent on technology. I can see benifits to not having technology for three days because people would then spend more time outside, and we wouldnt have such a big obesity rate. Also, going without technology for three days gives people more time to spend with their family and friends. We wouldn't be distracted by all of our high-tech gadgets and would be better focused on school work and then excell better in our grades. I believe it would be easy to go without electronics for three days, as I would have more time to play sports, be outside, and enjoy the beauty of life.

People all over the world are extremely dependent on technology, whether it be a simple flashdrive, or a humongous Smart board. Going without technology for three days might be hard, but it's important to realize how much those everyday things impact our lives. We would probably spend more time outside, which would encourage exercise and decrease obesity rates. People would also spend more of their time with family and friends and realize the importance of our natural surroundings. We would actually experience how life was "back in the day".

I probably wouldn't be able to go 2 hours without my ipod let alone three days. Its pretty sad but that is how I keep myself busy when i dont have to do homework. If i am busy doing something else or if Im not at home its not that hard to keep away from my ipod because if im away from my house then i dont really have wifi and i just use my ipod to text, which needs wifi, or play games that require wifi. So if my teacher made my class do that then i would probably fail that class. But actually when you think about it technology does in a way rule our lives. But it makes things a lot easier so that is a good thing.

There would benefits to going three days without technology in my opinion. Adolescents would get the chance to get out, be active, and not depend on their technological device. They would see how teens used to live back then; when the population wasn’t dependent on technology. After three days though, I’m not sure I could go without technology. At some point in a given day I’m on the computer using the internet, whether I’m doing a school assignment or just browsing. My cellphone is ALWAYS in my back pocket so I know that would be an issue. The only thing I MIGHT be able to give up for three days would be the television, other than that I know I couldn’t do it.

I think that it will just lower your addiction to video games, and then you don't have to just carry your ipod with you all the time.

Well, in my personal belief of the technology, i believe it's a really good idea because what we don't know is that technology is controlling us and if we can all break this habit for three days, it will be really good for us. And without technology for 3 days, the kids will get some exercise and have a really good time playing outside hanging out with their friends, instead of staying inside of the house and play video games all day long.

honestly i think i would not be able to Because live without my phone or radio. i use it everyday and i dont like silents. I'm a social person and if i was not able to talk to the people i talked to everyday out of school im sure things wouldn't go so well. i love my technology and would not be able to last a day with out it.

it would be a good thing if we went three days with out technology becuase it would give us a chance to socialize with other people and spend more with our family then just to text and call our friends

i am dependent on my phone, computer, even my radio. my phone because i communicate with my best friend and boyfriend, my computer for homework, and my radio to get to sleep at night. i could probably go without t.v. though. heaven knows i've already done that a million times!

I think I could go 3 days without technology. I usually just go to school during the day and I could wear a watch, then come home and just do my homework. I could spend more time outside and get fresh air, instead of watching TV or looking at a small computer screen. I could spend 3 days without technology.

to be honest i could not really go a day or three days, or maybe even a week without electronics at all!!!!

I could go three days without any electronics. This would be good because it would force students to interact with people face to face instead of through a text or email. It is also a good opportunity to help us understand what our parents mean when they say "we didn't have this when we were younger..."

    December 12, 2011 at 9:12 pm |
  622. Ryan

I can last 3 days with out electronics because I can't play video games or watch TV on school days. Instead I would play with my friends out side. The hard part would be the computer or my ipad because when i get home, I do my homework then I play either one of them. I think that having kids do that at that school for extra credit is a very good idea because it pulls kids away from electronics and forces them to do something active. Also those people would get more sleep, allowing them to get better. (PS, Carl is awesome.)

    December 12, 2011 at 9:14 pm |
  623. Sumner

I could do it. Probably. If more people tried, it would give them a chance to be more active for one thing, but also, instead of barely looking at your homework and not thinking things through because you were watching TV, you would be able to focus on your work and get better grades in school. So giving up technology is athletic and academic!

Going without electronics? great idea teenagers today are so ruled by their gadgets that they forget to actually live outside of cyberspace. why do you think obesity rates keep going up? because kids are all too willing to sit and enjoy the latest episode of whatever reality TV show is on. My brother actually can't seem to get off modern warfare even as I type.

I think that there is a benefit in no technology because you would get to learn how the people back then used to feel. Also to much technology would hurt your brain.

i could go with out technology for 3 days because i don't have a cell phone, wich makes it so mutch easier! Even though, i call my friend ashley every nigh and i love my internet (for videos) i'd rather read!

Every day you see people with their smart phones out and walking around. These days people can hardly live a couple of hours without their phones alone, imagine what it would be like if they had to give up all electronics for three days. I have trouble going out with electronics. Occasionally I will find myself watching television, texting on my phone and browsing the internet at the same time. Plus I listen to the radio everyday on my way to and from school. I can see benefits to going out with electronics. Like it would help the kids realize what their grandparents and even their parents had when they were kids.

The use of technology is in our everyday lives. We use our phones for calling and texting, I pods for games and music, radio for news and music, and computers for work, games, and means of communication. Most people can’t live without the use of their very own electronics they use daily. For some people that’s how their jobs operate is by the use of electronics. As we speak I am using the computer to type this up. Without the computer I would have to type this all up all over again. The means of electronics is limitless. We need the use of our electronics everyday.

I think some benefits of doing this is that you become more active and you see how life was before technology. Also kids probably spend more time with their family which is always good. I know that my parents would love to see me not using technology for at least a day. That would be impossible for me. I use my cell phone 24/7 and love to surf the web. While the power was out it was hard for me to not be without internet, I could still use electronics but just not the internet. Just like that I felt dead, I couldn't stand playing hide n' seek and card games all day. That is not my idea of fun.

Actually, now that I think of it, I don't know. Depending on what day it is, like if it were on a school day, I probably couldn't because the teachers need computers to teach. But if it were a Saturday, I'm positive I could live a day with out TV!=D

It would be interesting to watch me do that. i would suffer but i bet i would be able to go with out my phone t.v. and computer for a little while right now i don't have my phone with me right now but i am listening to music and on the computer. All electronics bring the same routine to the Human Brain:
Wake Up- check phone for any missing texts or calls, which waste time on You getting ready for school or work.
Get in the car- put on the radio, and while driving texting and calling, which both listening to music, text, or calling can cause anything You wouldn't want it to.
In school- Texting under the desk, and not paying attention. Then, you blame the teacher for not teaching you correctly.
Get home- instead of doing homework, or while doing homework, You are texting or calling, and you fall asleep while all of this, and get to school in the morning with your paper...blank. Then, you copy, and You never learned anything.
Same everyday. And it goes the same for the adults.
All the Successful leaders in the past: Abraham Lincoln, Martin Luther King Jr., Chris Gardner, Bill Gates, etc. did not use distractive, just for fun technology while succeeding. And these are a few of true people who succeeded.

Yes, it is possible. You need exercise more than electronics to keep you going and to stay healthy. Not to stay all day playing games and watching t.v . That is just called laziness.

I think that we can live without technology because technology is just a added effect in life and we won't die if we don't have it, right? I just think that technology is a waste/ extra addition to what we already have. Plus, we only need it because of the difficulties that are still in action today.

I think it would be very hard to go three days without technology because we rely on it so much in our lifetime that none of us would really know what it would b like.. we might actually be able to have a real conversation with our family without txting or talk face to face with someone and actually listen the whole time and not be distracted.

We can all use a break from technology. It is just a habbit for us to use the electronics for silly things. We should all just put down the electronics, and start thinking by ourselves. Another benefit for not using electronics is that we can go outside and play which allows us to burn energy.

Carl, do you think you would like it if you could have your show on the air for three days. Well, this might not be right but I think you most likely wouldn't like that. Because we all know that your show is important to you. Same thing, with out my MP3 player I would be, like lost. For like a day I could go without it, but for three days...... Wow.
