Honoring America's Veterans
As I type this, we're a little more than a week away from Veterans Day, but we wanted to give you a head start. We're looking for your comments and your iReports (if you're 13 or older) discussing why it's important to honor America's veterans.

It is important because every day veterans risk their lives to protect people they have never even met.
I think this holiday is a good day to show the vetarens that we care about them after everything they have done for us.
Veterans are the people who keep our country safe.
They fight for us,knowing that it could kill them.
They deffinitly deserve a day to be in the spotlight.
A day that everyone honors them.Veteran's day isn't about
getting off school,or work it's about keeping in mind the loved ones
we've lost in war,and the people who devote their lives to keep
our country safe.
These people have the right to be honored due to the fact that they are saving our country and land. We need people to risk their lives to fight for the U.S. On Friday, we will honor those people with pride.
Veterans Day is important because it gives us a chance to think about and thank the people that keep our country safe. Without our veterans, America would not the country that it is.
I think veterans day is very important. It shows honor and respect to those who put their own lives on the line to protect our freedom. They could have set themselves on their couch but they didn't. They chose to risk their lives to protect our country. It is VERY important.
I think this holiday is good because families at home can honor their family members and how they foght against their own kind to help their nation. Veteran's day is the holiday I cherish most.

It is important because they leave their homes and family to fight for people who live in the U.S.A. and their familys
I think that we should honor Veterans day becuase they are mostly the most important people in our lives and they also helped serve our country to so those are my reason's why!!
It's important to honor our Veterans because they are heroes. More often than not they are modest about what they do, and some don't even consider themselves heroes, but without them America would not be safe and would be unable to function. With the utmost bravery, veterans sacrifice their very life and existence to keep our people safe. They help each and every American citizen keep their freedoms. All out of pure love for our country and our people.
We should honor our veterans because they fight for us and make shure we are safe in this world. They are our hero's and we should honor them every day for what they do for us.
I think the veterans should be heroes that what they do Bo one in the u.s. Should hate or dis-like them they are heroes who ever dislike them they should get out the USA because everyone should like them no natter what hey save your life and Rick their life's to save you some times they die. And you think that you don't like them. No one will like you because everyone should love them.
veterans have fought for us and our freedom for so many years that we sometimes forget that the are there. most people only now the holiday by that it's a day we don't have school. veterans are some one who goes out to protect our country and most of them end up lossing thier lives on countless ocations and some are very badly wonded. i think that they smile when we talk about them on veterans day. im glad its a holiday that people can talk freely about and express thier opinions on it.
Veterans are the people who kept this country safe and protected us. We have Veterans day to honor them and our loved ones that were lost in the war.
I think veterans day is a great day to show support to men and women that risk there lives to help people they don’t know so in honor of them my school put to together a assembly and invites veterans to give a speech and tell stories about there life then after words they get a free meal

Both of my grandfathers served in the military and that makes this holiday really special for our family. It takes a certain kind of courage to get up one morning and say "I want to defend my country no matter what the cost," I wish everyone a happy Veteran's Day and I'd like to say thank you to everyone who has served this country in battle.
It is important, because veterans risk their lives to protect us from our enemies. They know that they could die, but they still fight because they care about us and our country. We owe them the respect.
I believe we should honor the american veteran's with this holiday for all they have done and still do for us today. We remember those who died to save our country. While were sitting watching the news, or playing with friends, soldiers are defending US! And we I believe we don't give enough credit for them. We remember them by putting flowers on their grave; or even video chatting with them from all over. its important to not celebrate it, but take it as the day. your alive. because the soldiers across the seas are defending our lives. They risk there lives for their family's, and our lives. its important because... there the brave souls who dare to chase down that bad guy; and put an end to war.

I think the 13th amendment goes for animals because it's not fair that animals are getting kept captivity because when they let go of the animals the animals won't know how to fight defend them selves neither ever see their family's.
I think we should have Veterans Day because they have put their life on the line to fight for our country.We should honor them for their choice to risk their lives to keep our country free.

Indeed, it is a honorable tradition to celebrate veterans day. These men, and women have put their life and well-being on the line for their country and the universal idea of freedom, and because of their triumphant efforts, you can sit there in that classroom, in that school, in that great country, and watch Carl Azus As FREE citizens of the united states of america.
I think that it is important to honor them, because they keep our country safe and they put their own lives on the line to keep us- people they havent even met, safe. They do a lot, they get sepperated from their families to keep this country safe so they should get at least a day honoring them.
I think it is very important to honor Americaʻs veterans because they go out and they risk their own lives just for our country. Also my uncle just recently retired from the military so I can tell that when they get to see their families, take a day off, and just be told that what theyʻre doing is right, is very important and means a lot to them.

Veterans do not just protect the US, but the entire world from terrorists to dictators. And they are a living history, so we could get lots of good lessons from them.
I think we have to honor the America's veterans because if there is no veterans, there is no Amerca's economy, and if there is no economy, there will be no America.

Tim and his dad have a ritual on Veterans Day. They visit Tim's grandfather's grave and Tim salutes him for the sacrifices he made during World War II.
Matthew's dad was in the military, and he was very brave.
Maddie thinks that people should visit their ancestors graves to honor them. Her dad was in the Coast Guard.

To celebrate Veteran’s Day in my eighth grade Civics class, I review the history of the day as well as the history of the Medal of Honor. My great-uncle, Harold, was awarded this medal posthumously for his actions during WWII. I bring the Medal of Honor to school so that my student see and touch the medal. This past September, I was invited to France to take part in a ceremony to honor American veterans. Luxeuil, France, where Harold died, celebrated the 67th anniversary of their liberation by dedicating a monument to him. The people of this town were so grateful for the help of the Americans during WWII. The monument dedicated to Harold was just a small token of their gratitude.
It is very important, because veterans are ordinary people who risk their only lives to save others and securing the nation from threats.
Gabriella, I totally agree that veterans should have a day in the spotlight and be honored and it's not about getting off of school it's about thanking our veterans for their bravery.Also I think it's amazing that veterans know that they could die everyday but they still stay strong and fight for their contry.

In the history of America, the use of force has been employed to protect the freedoms deliniated in the Declaration of Indepence and the Constitution. Our civil rights and freedoms should be spread throughout the world. But if that freedom is to ring, it must sometimes be fought for. So saying, it is neccessary for us to have armed forces to do so. America currently has a volunteer force. Though conflict is not sought after, the volunteers have pledged their lives to the protection and promotion of our freedoms. Veterans were willing to give their lives for us. Thankfully, they did not die. But the willingness to sacrifice is what matters. We should honor our brave veterans. And Veteran's Day is the perfect opportunity to do so.

I feel very personal about Veterans Day because there are two teachers in my class that are veterans and one of them has a glass eye and a purple heart because a Khobar tower that he was in had been bombed by muslim terrorists.

According to the dictionary, one of the meanings of a "veteran" is 'a person who has served in the armed forces'. But their much more that. I remember when I was about five, and my dad left to go to Iraq. I was so sad and my mom told me he would be gone for half a year. I would always be thinking about whether or not he is safe. Vetern's day is extremely important to celebrate. My school honors Vetern's day by holding an annual assembly to honor our Heros. We have a speaker and the band and choir sing and play special songs to honor our Vetern's.
Vertens they helped ous out a lot now is our time to help them out. We honor them on this day today we can give them food and much other stuff. Wpthey took there lifes for us if they didn't we could of died we are really great for them thank you.

I think we should celebrate Veterans day every day, considering that every day we live in America, we owe to them.
some Veterans gave their lifes to keep our country safe. I would like it if some of us returned the favor by honoring them. Veterans Day is when some families if the people who died can honor the lost family members and they can remember all the good times they spent with them. At my elementary school last year, we always had a big parade with balloons and streamers. And every year i would sing the national anthem for the entire school. You could either give pictures to display in a power point, have them come in person, or do both. The cheerleaders, including me, would dance and honor those who helped us live the lives that we live. Every year I would send in pictures of my grandpa and start crying. After the parade, we would have cake and at the end of the day, we would pray and celebrate the lives of those who serve the U.S.A. Happy Veteran's Day everyone! 😉

Veteran's Day is super important. I feel really affected by it because I have family members part of the U.S. Military. It makes me feel proud that I can say thank you to honor a troop for being there to sacrifice their life for me, my family, and country. My Uncle has not been on the battlefield for a year, but he is at home. I don't know if he'll be called back into duty or not, but I know I can be proud and say on Veteran's day that he is a soldier who I'll always remember as a hero. I love Veteran's day, and my Uncle.

We also learned about the start of Veteran's Day as Armistice Day and the importance of having the holiday on November 11th.

A lot of people that I know don't get why us Americans have this beloved holiday. But i am not one of those people. I totally see why we celebrate it, becasue my grandfather was chief for 20 years in the Navy. And my father was deported to Japan for 10 years working in the Marines. When we celebrate this holiday I write a letter going to my cousin AJ saying how much i love him and wish he could visit me.

Some of us seniors out there just answered a question very similar, is there pride serving in our military? Well my response to both of the questions is yes. They go out and fight for our protection and freedom willingly because they love our country. Also my uncle just recently retired from the military so I can tell that when they get to see their families, take a day off, and just be told that what theyʻre doing is right, is very important and means a lot to them.

My dad had served in the air force and is, thankfully, stiil alive today. My grandpa has served in the Vietnam war and risked his life for me and my family. We all are thankful that we have people like them that can keep the danger away from us and to keep our country safe.
My grandfather was in the marines and went to battle in Vietnam. This makes Veterans day more special to our family than to other families without veterans. I watched a show about the Vietnam War and it shows how gruesome war actually is and that makes me wonder how so many people actually survived. Everyone needs to celebrate Veterans Day because men and women risk their lives to keep our country safe.
Despite having a chance of being killed, the men and women fight for America. Without the soldiers fighting, the world would be a much different place. We owe all our thanks and respect to these soldiers.
It's important because everyday, so many Americans risk their lives and for those that died they used their life to protect us so we should honor their strenght and bravery. Not everyone can say, "I'm going to risk my life for my country today."
My uncle Rusty and his son which is also uncle Rusty are both in the millitary. I barely get to see them but inside i know their dooing the right thing. We need to respect everyone whos in the millitary or army or marines ect.
Its extremely important to remember and thank our veterans for giving thier lifes for our country. When you think about it, its scary to wake up and think, "I might not see family ever again." We should be proud of our veterans and what they do everyday for us.

I think it is important to, because my Dad was in the Army Rangers. He ddidn't serve in the war, but almost all of the men in my family were in the military. From my Grandfathers to my Great Uncles to my Father.
It is very important not only to remember our veterans today, but every day. Without them, we might not have the simple pleasures we have now. Every day, every hour we live, was bought for us by them.
I think that they should let people choose what they wont to drink because they should be old enough to know how to take care of their self.

I think every person in the world not only the american's but everyone should celebrate veteran's day because not all countries celebrate the people that fought for their country but some people gave their lives for their country. It doesn't matter if they started the war or not the only thing that matters is that they are recognized.
