Politics, education, entertainment, sports, business, science, religion and human rights are just a few of the many fields in which African-Americans have made historic contributions. In this, Black History Month, we’d like to know whose contributions you value the most. If there were a national Black History Hall of Fame, who would you like to nominate for it, and why?
Donna Krache, Executive Producer
I would like to nominate our current President of the United States for fixing our economy and making the healthcare reform bill.
i would nominate Rosa Parks because without her refusal on the bus none of the protests would have happened. blacks would still be slaves without her.

Yes i think a computer can be as smart as a human but humans think by there self and computer are programed to think.
i do not think a computer can be as smart as a real person because you cant program a computer to be a human there is no brain in a computer just a chip
I don't think computers can be as smart as humans because we created computer and we did not make each other and they don't have as fast reflezes
I would like to nominate Rosa Parks for being so strong that day on the bus. She knew what would happen if she didn't move and yet she still defided the rules. She was a huge insiration to all of the blacks. She was a role model to them and to many generations afterwards. She is my hero
Martin Luther King Junior because if it had not been for him, half of the people in the U.S. would be unfairly judged by their skin color
I would have to nominate Harriet Tubman! I mean thee underground rail road, SHE disscovered that and she kept going for what she wanted and she didn't just do it for herself. She did it for others and that's what America is about!
Rose Parks because she was brave enough to stay and put up a fight to sit where ever she wanted to. Its no just that she sat where she wanted to, its that she was going to finally stand up for her people, and to me that is a big deal!
I would nominate Harriet Tubman for h bravery and f rdoing something no free person thought to do - go back and help other slaves get to freedom.
I believe that Michelle Obama should be in the hall of fame because she is one of the only first ladies to help kids get active and is a very big inspiration.
Jennifer Hudson definitely! Because she is really kind, plus she sings beautifully, without having to add in all the slang. She is an amazing role model for everyone!!
I would nominate Rosa Parks because, she was the one who didn't give up her seat to a white person on the bus. She was the one brave enough to start to desegregate america.

Obama is my hero because he mad it as presdent thats why he is my hero and he is black .And they are not judgeing him by his color.
I would like to nominate Barak Obama.
Of course Martin Luther King contributed much to American history,
but, even if Marin Luther King haven't made his contributions, other person would have done it. All the blacks wanted freedom. Not only him.
But, if president Barak Obama didn't become the president, we are not sure that other blacks would have done it, and show that, in American society no longer does segregation exists.
Even if any blacks becomes president, that will be in the long future and slow down the complete disappearance of segregation.
So I think he's contribution has the most value.
Rosa Parks because if she didnt start the boycott then black and white people probaly would have the right to ride the same or go to the same shcool. Rosa encouraged me not to make fun of people because of their color ,because everybody should have the freedom. So i encourage everybody to treateveryone equal and if someone is getting picked on to help them and you will get paid back.
I would definitely choose Carter Godwin Woodson. He worked to preserve the history of African Americans, and he actually made the "Black history week", which was the second week in Febuary.

I belive that martiin luther king jr was corect by trying to change how other s should be treated but I wish somebody didn't try to assassinate him if Murtin luther king did not convence pepole treat others how you want to be treated then we would still be judge by the content of our skin.
Martin Luther King Junior because he is an inspiring man that made a difference and would have made even more if he were still around.
Someone Most people don't think about in Black history is The king of Pop , Michael Jackson. He was an amazing humanitarian and had such an influence in music and on the world. He changed the world with his music and been spoken very little about in black history! Rest in Peace MJ!

I would nominate Rosa Parks because she helped create awareness about African-Americans being equal to whites. Her act also was a contributing factor to the bus boycott, and the African-Americans eventually were invited to sit where ever they would like to on the buses because the bus companies were losing money from such a drop in bus-riders. Rosa Parks is an excellent role model that inspires me everyday!
I think Martin Luther King Jr. is my hero because of his big protests for civil rights. Kudos to him!

There's a saying that says "don't judge a book by it's cover". That applies to everyone. People are people, no matter what they look like or how they act.
I think the African American who inspired me the most is Louis Armstrong. He is in my opinion the greatest trumpeter. He inspired so many people with his Jazz music. The most important people are the ordinary ones. Many heroes of history will never be recognized. People whose names we don't know- people who stood up for what they believed in, black, white, red, or yellow, and contributed to black history in some small way- deserve to be remembered.
Michael Jacson was a great part in the "We Are the World" music video. He raised over 10 million dollars and that went to a great cause!!!
Martion Luther King Jr. because he helped with most of or freedoms. i love his i have a dream speech.
I think that people should recognize people like Thurgood Marshall, who dedicate there lives to help people who are hurting
Since Im a Ga girl I would have to say MARTIN LUTHER! He did the best he could and went through VERY HARD times.........
I would have to say Nelson Mandela. He protested for equality in his country and was sentenced to life in prison on accusations of political treason but when he was released 27 years later, he was able to bring democracy to South Africa and released it from the racist apartheid regime it had been under for 46 years. He led South Africa to its first ever democratic presidential election! That is certainly something to celebrate and remember.
I would recommend all the slaves and racial equality activists in American history who stayed determined and attempted to bring themselves to a level similar to whites. Of course, MLK Jr., Rosa Parks, Malcolm X, etc. were important–but these important people served as catalysts. To actually make a change, you need the much larger enzymes. That's the people.
I would like to nominate Thurgood Marshall. I feel that he was influential in many important decisions in US history.
I admire harriet tub man wsho made the under ground railroad with all the run away slaves.
I think that Ruby Bridges is worthy of a nod because she was only 5 years old when she attended an all-white school. She was a part of the desegregation of the South, and for a little girl she certainly had to be brave.
I would definatly nominate Bill Russell. Bill Russell played on the Boston Celtics and Coached many other teams. He is unforgetable. He is my great Uncle by marrige, He has accomplished so much that amazes me!
I will have to honestly say that my favorite black hero would have to be Martin Luther King because he died for what he believed, inspiring many people to also fight for their beliefs. I believe it took great bravery for 1 man to stand against a world full of racisim to try & bring people together to live in a world free of hate.
My hero would be..............Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. I mean look at what he has done! It seems pretty amazing to me. He is almost like a chain link. Think about it. He made many many speeches, arguments, and delt with marches too! And he also even lead that to the the whole Rosa Parks situation. I think that if he was still alive today, he would STILL move us the same way he did.
I admire Nelson Mandela for his courage, strength and skills. I would definitely choose him because he really helped his country get what black people at the time most wanted, freedom. I also think that he was a great man in many ways and that he still fought for equal rights, even if it meant going to jail.
I think Mrtin Luther King Jr. Because he was a GREAT leader of African-American people and I respect him
I think a great part in the Civil Rights Movement was, Rosa Parks. Rosa Parks stood up for herself and all other blacks. Even though she got arrested, people still loved her. From the time she got arrested to about a year after, they walked for her!!
Oprah Winfrey, she became the queen of talk show and because of the great sympathy, everyone who talk with her or listen her word become very comfortable. Also, she overcame many of the pains like segregation and underprivileged childhood.
I think my black history month hero would be Morgan Freeman. He is an actor with an impressive array of talents. I love how he is always donating and helping charaties around the world.
Martin Luther King Jr.
I'm a Japanese high school student. He is one of the most famous African-American in Japan. We can see his feat in not only a textbook of the History but also the English. So we learn English with his speech "I HAVE A DREAM". I was so moved by him.
BLACK HISRTOY MONTH IS THE DAY OF REMEMBERINCE AND MOST OF THE THINGS WE BEEN THROUGH.IF IT WASNT FOR THE ANCESTORS WE WOULD HAVE NOT BEEN HERE TODAY ON THIS EARTH.SO LET US ALL BE SURE AND BE SURE OF OUR FAMILY.
I think one person can't represent the African-American history. I think all the people represent the society
Martin Luther King Jr. because he saved ua all from segregation. If he did not stand up for the right thing we would still be a non-peaceful nation and blacks would still be mistreated.
I would nominate Martin Luther King Jr. because he made peace between the blacks and the whites. He was a peace maker and made big chang in history because if it wasn't for him there still would be different schools, areas in resterants, etc.
I would like to nominate Barack Obama because even being on the ballot for president is taking the final step to total freedom. Nelson Mandela said that we had already had the freedom to be free since the1960s, but to truly be free means you must live your life in a way that enhances the freedom of others, I could not think of a more pivotal moment in history to call the "final step"
martin luther king jr. all the way hes my black history hero (awsome)
my black history month hero is muhhamad ali. hes is an great role. modle. and he fights the power
the best black history hero i think it was Dr.Martin Luther King jr. he was the best and a good man to all citizens in the world he worked hard and was really brave to tell his speech to everyone
marther luther king j.r because he did the right thing and went toward what he belived.
I can't pick only one person. So many people have done amazing things and to pick a single person is hard.
i say Harriet tubman. she fought for her rights and saved a lot of slaves taking them to the north. she would have seemed like a super hero to the slaves.
Rosa Parks because she was one woman who stood up for her rights, showing the world no matter if your woman or man, black or white, you have equal rights as everybody else
I think Oprah Winfrey
MY BLACK HISTORY MONTH HERO IS WARRECK DUNN BECAUSE HE HAS DONE SO MUCH FOR HIS COMMUNITY. I WOULD LIKE TO NOMMINATE HIM
I cant really choose one. They all have done soo much for us. And I am white, so thats sayin somethin. (NOT racist!) I beleive that they all deserve to be acknowlegded! Thank You to all the African American/blacks that have done soo much!
My african american hero isDr.Martin Luther Kg Jr because he helped people to become less racial and appreciate others for who they are. It is important to look past what people look like and know them as they realy are.
I dedicate this month to Harriett Tubman. She not only led all those slaves to their freedom, but she also inspired the world to be what it is today.
I really like how Michelle Obama is inspiring kids to eat healthy so kudos to you Michelle and keep up the hard work.
I would say MLK because he changed segregation between blacks and whites hearts forever!
Barrack Obama is definitely my hero, because he has proven that African Americans can rise up from racism and do something amazing.
I would nominate Martin Luther King Jr. because he showed us that anything is possible, he never gave up and helped bring equality to our nation.
Martin Luther King Jr. because he did things which no one doing. and I'm respect him.
I nominate dr. Martin Luther King jr.because he tryed to do the right thing and he did it in a nice way, because if I was the president of the U.S I would have said everyone no matter color should like each other.
I would nominate Martin Luther King Jr. because he has opened the eyes of most of us. He made a giant impact on the way African Americans and Americans got along. Go MLK Jr.!
I picked Obama because he is important-he became the 1st black person in the U.S.A.Well of course Martin Luther King stopped segregation, but someone else would have done it .I would say Obama and Martin Luther King would be on my #1list.
Obama is my hero because he mad it as presdent thats why he is my hero and he is black .good=Not judging by skin color
Bad=judging by skin color
I believe that all blacks should be accountered for because they all do or did FANTASTIC things for our country:)
I would like to nominate Rosa parks for standing strong and not giving up her seat to someone else. This made a big impact on other African Americans.
Booker T. Washington, educator and reformer, first president and principal developer of Tuskegee Normal and Industrial Institute (now Tuskegee University), and the most influential spokesman for black Americans between 1895 and 1915.
I would add Martin Luther King Jr for his breath taking speaches and how he changed the lives of many generations to come.
If there is anyone I could think of to be in a hall of fame, it would be Barack Obama. He inspired me to not give up since I come from a hispanic family. He is and always will be my inspirer
I would like to nominate Michael Jordan because he is the most respected Black athlete not only in the US, but all over the world. Many young people find their role model through sports. In this regard, Michael Jordan taught them how to behave in a way they are respected.
In commemoration of Black History Month, Americans of all races should honor the achievements of African-American servicemen and women, especially those who gave up their lives in service to their country. We can do this by making sure the Government begins to spend a sufficient amount of money to recover the remains of our missing in action, many of whom were African-Americans, such as the following 29 MIA Tuskegee Airmen of World War II (whose stories were documented not long ago in a series of articles in the St. Louis Post-Dispatch): Lt. Albert L. Young, F/O Carl J. Woods, Lt. William F. Williams Jr., Lt.Sherman H. White Jr., Lt. James R. Polkinghorne, F/O Leland H. Pennington, Lt. Andrew D. Marshall, Captain Andrew Maples Jr., Lt. Oscar D. Hutton Jr., Lt. Wellington G. Irving, Lt. Fred L. Brewer Jr., Lt. John H. Chavis, Capt. Alfonza W. Davis, Capt. Lawrence E. Dickson, Lt. Maurice V. Esters, Lt. Samuel J. Foreman, Lt. Frederick D. Funderburg Jr., Lt. Samuel Jefferson, Lt. Charles B. Johnson, 2nd Lt. James L. McCullin, Capt. Robert B. Tresville, 2nd Lt. Elton H. Nightingale, Lt. George T. McCrumby, 2nd Lt. Thomas C. Street, 1st Lt. Langdon E. Johnson, 2nd Lt. Ferrier H. White, 2nd Lt. Harry J. Daniels, 1st Lt. John H. Prowell, and Lt. Samuel G. Leftenant. Please support substantially increased funding for location and recovery of the remains of our heroic missing Tuskegee Airmen, and all the other missing soldiers, sailors, and airmen of all ethnicities. Their sacrifice and their families deserve nothing less.
Rosa Parks. She was visionary. She stood up for rights she didn't even have yet.
Barack Obama is my black hero because inferiority into chance so he became the first black president in US. He encouraged many people, and still he's doing really good job about US. Even his parents divorced, even he was black, even he grew in a unsafe family, he never gave up. He gave the message 'Everything is possible' to many people. Therefore, I think Barack Obama is my black history month hero
I would nominate Martin Luther King Jr. for the black history month hall of fame because he stood up for the rights of African American people, and did so peacefully. He also gave many speeches and non-violent protests because he believed that blacks should have equal rights as whites. He died trying to give blacks the same rights as whites, that's why I would nominate Martin Luther King Jr. for the black history month hall of fame.
I think Obama is the best because he's the first black president of US
i think that Ruby Bridges should be nominated. Ruby is a smart caring woman, who stood up against segregation, witch makes her a stron tough woman who deserves that title.
My class has many heroes. We admire Michael Jackson, Michael Jordan, and Garrett Morgan
i would like to nominate rosa parks because she refused to give up her seat for a white man. She had to have courage to not give him her seat because she had to know all of the punishments.
A lot of people say Martin Luther King, and other civil rights leaders, but there are other great African American people, such as Booker T. Washington. Booker T. Washington was the dominant figure in the African American community in the United States from 1890 to 1915. He was a representative of the last generation of black leaders born in slavery, and he spoke on behalf of blacks living in the South. Mr. Washington also helped create the Tuskegee Institute for black students.
I would nominate Maya Angelou because i feel she made huge contributions to our history. Not only did she have to fight racism, but she also battled sexist ideals. However, she managed to push through and still become once of the most notable poets in history.
I would nominate Roasa Parks because she stude up for herself by not giving up her seat on the bus. I think she would be one of the best nomamies for a blak hisotry month wall of fame.
I would nominate Rosa Parks because if she never refused to give up her seat on the bus we never would have had the start of the protesting. I also think that Martin Luther King Jr. had a major part in getting rid of prejudice. If he never stepped up and tried for what he believed in, the world would be the same as it was in the 40's and 50's.
I would nominate MLK for his courageous act against injustice and segregation. Without him African Americans and latinos alike would be enslaved by whites
Lincoln for fighting against his own country to free the slaves
I think that black history month is very important because it shows how important black people can be! I very much value the contributes of Martin Luther King because when I look at a black person, I realize that if Martin Luther King didn't make that speech, we might still be beating up the blacks!
Harriet Tubman was going to escape by herself, but she went back to get the others. I admire her for her kindness and bravery.
Maya Angelou is my role model and hero. She had a hard life as a child, yet still worked towards her dreams to become an amazing singer, writer, actress, and even a civil-rights activist. May Maya always be remembered for her achievements in the world.
I would definitely nominate Martin Luther King Jr. Why? well because Martin Luther King was a wonderful person and plus if you go up to ten different people and ask them the first thing that comes to mind when you say black history month 5/10 of them are most likely going to say Martin Luther King Jr.
Abraham Lincoln because he set slaves free all across America!
Aside from the obvious nominations, I'd nominate James Brown, the 'Hardest Working Man in Show Business'. He's the Godfather of Soul. He revolutionized the entertainment industry with his funky tunes and smooth moves. Seven decades of funk. He was a man among men.
Oprah Winfrey, because she's the best talk show host ever! In all seriousness though, Oprah has gave away a lot of money to charity;started a school in Africa;etc. Overall she's a very generous person.
I nominate Salem Poor, an African American solider who fought in the Patriot Army during the American Revolution because he believed in Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Happiness for all people in America, and helped win our nation's freedom.
I would nominate Garrett Morgan because of his contributions of the traffic light and gas mask. Without him, many people would have been dead daily on our roads.
Martin Luther KIng Jr. is my hero, he gave black's the right to share with people that where white,he also gave Freedom of Speach.
I believe thatMuhamad Ali is a true inspiration. He keeps going and never gives up no matter how big the challenge is. Muhammad Ali is truely the greatest of all time.
Obama is my hero just because i remember when people said we would never have an African American as President. But Obama fought and won to become the first African American President.
I feel that Muhammad Ali, the famous boxer, is an inspiration to people everywhere. He never gives up and keeps on going, no matter how big the challenge. Something we all need to do today.
Harriett Tubman is my hereo because of everything she did during the civil war. She fought for her rights as an African American. She had escaped the slavery and she was brave enough that she went back to get more slaves. She save so many slaves. She not only led all those slaves to freedom but she also inspired the world to be the way it is today.
My black history month hero is Nelson Mondela because he to me is very strong he makes me believe we can do what we put our minds and hearts to. You have to believe to achieve! 🙂 🙂 🙂
Rosa Parks is my hero because I think she was so confident to refuse to get up off the seat for the white man... Even though she was arrested.
I want to nominate Rosa Parks because even though she was arrested for not letting the White man sit in her seat, she remained strong. It takes a lot of courage to do that. I also want to nominate Martin Luther King Jr. because he, like Rosa Parks, believed that Black people should be equal to White people, and like them both, I agree.
I would put Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. because of hi bravery in showing that race is not a big difference.
I would like to point out that all the African Americans that went down in history are ment to be celebrated for their achivements because all odds were put against them just for their skin color, but the ones I would really like to point out is Harriet Tubman for her bravery during slavery, Martin Luther King Jr. for his act on civil rights, Obama for being the first African American president, and Michael Jackson for being the African American KIng of Pop.
I think Martin Luther King is a great inspiration. He fought and died for what he believed in. You really should, if you could, get an award for that.
My black hero would be Martin Luther King Jr. The reason why is because he changed all of our lives so we can be together like black and white.

I would have to pick president obama because no matter what people do or say he will shake it off and go with his gut
Barack Obama is my black history hero because I always dreamed of a black President.
My hero would be Langston Hughes because of his beautiful, inspiring and motivating poetry, mostly about the Harlem Renaissance. His poetry is absolutely dreamy and was even turned into a song called "I Dream A world." His poetry is really inspiring and uplifting which is why I look up to him.
my black history month hero is martin luther king due to him being such a true freind and hero to all blacks and america.
I have many African heroes but these are a few of them Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., Rosa Parks, Oprah Winfrey. Only because these people changed people lives, making a huge impact on lives.:)
My hero is Jackie Robinson, because he was the first black athlete in the MLB.
My black history month hero is Rosa Parks. Rosa stood up for everything she believed in. She makes me believe we can do what we put our minds and hearts to.
I think the whole Obama family should because they have proved that the racial segragation is over. A new age is born and Martin Luther King would have been very proud of our progress. African Americans have finally made it to the White House! 🙂 🙂 🙂 🙂 🙂 🙂
I would nominate George Washington Carver because he is the person who brought what we have today the peanut.
Martin Luther King, jr because he was a great civil rights movement activist.
I thionk it was michael jackson he was the king of pop. He was unique and wrote a lot of songs. ohhhhhh 🙂
I nominate Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. because he really changed a lot from the time when black and white was a major issue and it still is an issue but not nearly as big as back then and i thank him for that . He had a dream to change things and he did.
michael jackson because he changed for ever llke his Video for Thiller and the moon walk during Billie Jean
i would like to nominate Martin Luther King Jr. if it wasn't for him black people wouldn't be equal and alot of us would lose many friends who are dear to us.
george whashington carver. he made PEANUT BUTTER
Maritin Luther King! I would nominate him, because, as everyone knows, he not only protested, but he had the wisdom and will-power not to do it violently, keeping in mind people like Ghandi, which, I believe, was an amazing feat. Without him, we might not be the great U.S.A. that we are today: we still have many problems, but we're farther ahead than we were.
I would nomonate Ray Charles because he cold do so much even while he's blind. He's amazing!!
My hero is Rosa Parks she was veary honest and did'nt stop what she started she was alaso veary brave to do what she did.
I would like to nominate Martin Luther King Jr. because he lead the civil rights movement and he gave us freedom.
I nominate Abraham Lincoln. He freed the slaves with the emancipation proclamation. He is not black, yet he made history for blacks all over the nation. He started chain reaction against segregation. He is my MOST FAVORITE PRESIDENT.
I don't think that I could choose because of two particular men who inspire me to do what I do everyday would have to be these to men: Ray Charles who proves no matter what condition you are in you can do whatever you put your mind to if you really want it bad enough, and my second choice would be George Washington Caver because he always had goals set that may have seemed so far away at one time but then when they were accomplished it was like that was really easy and then he would set off on to the next goal also no matter who said what to him about how he could not do this or that it just seemed to make him even more determined then before. These 2 should definitely be in the hall of fame for Black history.
I think Martin Luther King Jr because he stop black and whites from hating each other. Now black and white get along and black people can go in white people store and white can go in a black people store and he lead the march in Alamba.
I would like to nominate George Washington Carver because he made more than 300 products with peanuts including peanut butter, shampoo , face-cream , and much more! We still use most of these products today! If it wasn't for him, we might have still been lost today!
I would nominate Oprah because she is a very caring woman and she is also helpful. Thank you
i would have to say Tyler Perry because he is a good example of rags to riches and his movies had moved people throughout the world ......he is a very good character that i think everyone can look up to ..not to mention he is hilarious
I think that Barack Obama should be nominated because he was the first black president of the United States.
I would nominate all of those who fought for their rights during segregation. They deserve to be acknowledged, to be recognized for what they have done in order for their descendants to live freely.
i would nominate Muhammed Ali because Author/boxer/activist/Olympian, transcended sorts to become the most recognizable athlete ever. Stood up to the U.S. government when he refused induction to the military. Ali explained his reasoning saying: " Those Vietnamese never called me nigger, I ain't got nothing against them." Although his social stands became legendary, his athletic exploits were just as noteworthy. Ali won the heavyweight title an unprecedented three times and was the most colorful and graceful big man ever to engage in fisticuffs. Changed the face of the payment scale for athletes forever. Lit the Olympic Flame in the world's biggest sporting venue at the '96 Games in Atlanta.
Jackie Robinson was baseball pioneer, swallowed his tremendous pride and absorbed untold mental and verbal abuse in successfully breaking the color barrier in professional baseball in '45. One of the greatest all-around athletes ever, he led the nation in rushing one year and was the leading conference basketball scorer, all while attending UCLA. Robinson changed the face of American sports forever and proved that Blacks did have the necessities to compete at any level of sport and life.
my hero is rosa parks
Harriet Tubman because she freed thousands of slaves, men, women, young, and old. She is an exeptional woman! 🙂
i would like to nominate barack hussien obaba. our current great president. he is amazing. he has made our country a better place again. best president EVER.
Somebody that I admire most for Black History Month, would be Jackie Robinson. Because he was the 1st African American to play in the MLB. Which changed the world of sports & the way of life for blacks. If it wasn't for Jackie Robinson then there wouldn't be any Barry Bonds, Willie Mays, Ken Griiffey Jr. , & C.C. Sabathia. I think he's more important than MLK & Obama, because he was doing his thing way before them. Jackie Robinson went through a lot because he was criticized, rejected, & unliked by the whites. Props to Jackie Robinson!!
i would choose Tyler Perry because he is a good example of rags to riches and his movies moved everyone who have got a chance to see it ...he is a great rolemodel and is hilarious
I would nominate Louis Armstrong and Wynton Marsalis because they are two of my favorite trumpet players and two of the best trumpet players.
