A lot of you have talked to us about how the economy has affected you at school. Now, we'd like to know if and how the recession is affecting your plans for spring break.
(By definition, a "staycation" is when you're off school or work but don't travel. A "paycation" is when you spend your spring break working.)
Carl Azuz, Anchor
last year my dad said we were going on a cruise in the summer then he got a new job and now were not times are tough
In spring break we cleaned our rooms and did work because we never have time to clean up our mess and it was SUPER FUN! I got to go to the Water Park of America because of our great work. It was a B.L.A.S.T!
In this kind of recession, not as many people will be going on actual vacations to other places. At this time, many of us are short on money and are trying to cut back. But despite the economy and lack of cash in our pockets, you can still enjoy a great week off.
two words: it was fun.............
wait a second....
This spring break my family stayed home. I don't think it was because the recession but i had a good time anyway.
I was doing all sorts of things on summer break. It seems that everybody needs help now. When it comes to a school break I can not even get a rest and play a video game. The only things I did were eat, work, and sleep. It was not fun at all.
I went to visit my grandparents and go shopping and having a little family time. It was not too busy at the stores though. I can see that things are changing around us alot, but its not changing us really.
paycation is definitely how i describe my vacation. not necessarily me that's working but my parents have no choice but to work. That means my family doesn't get to go on any vacations. it is not very fun.
With the amount of money our economy has lost, I believe that many families could not afford to go on their regular vacation because the taxes have grown. Therefore affecting spring break vacations.
in my house we haved had to cut on going out and have had to make more fun for us here at home
I went to Splash In the Boro [Statesboro GA] with my best friend and made new friends...it wa super F.U.N
My parents had to work all SPring Break, while I stayed home and watched my brothers. Usually, we would visit my Grandparents in Georgia, but times are tough, and we are squeeezing the dollar, but unfortunately were running out of dollars to squeeze.
For spring break, my family and I were planning to go to Destin. We did and had a lot of fun. Although I got sunburned half the time I still enjoyed the nice breeze and steamy weather.
Well, I really wouldn't know how bad it was or how it is getting better because i'm just a kid. To me it was a normal spring break going to the shore, but to my parents it might have been different. As I said i'm not so sure.
My family made me stay home this spring break because my mom lost her job and we are goinbg through some tough times this year. I really hope it gets better soon.
I never go anywhere for my spring break. My dad teaches at a nearby university, and the high school doesn't share a spring break with the university. It's not so bad, though. I'm fine with just staying and chilling at home.
well we havn't had spring brake yet but when we do I am going down to Mertle Beach with my softball team. We are spending the week down there in a nice condo right on the beach. 🙂
my spring break was the best it was not infected by the recession
nobody so i had a pretty good time my mom bought me lots of good stuff.
.... well i think it unfair that my school should have a three week vacation... it has effected my vacation because i stayed at home and is was B.O.R.I. N. G. lol
cost a lot of money to go enewere right now
My vacation was very effected by the recession. I used to have fun go to the store mall and everything, But now i cant do that cause my parents don`t get a lot of money due to the recession now we are on a budget. Possibly the recession will get better and it will all come back, so yeah this recession has effected my spring break very much so
when they say it's "time for spring break" I intend to have a BREAK . spring break is a week long recess(via the internet)from studying in the us , canada ,and other parts of the world also at universities and schools
Well besides not having enough money to go on trips or vacations during Spring Break. We dont have enough time to because i think schools are cutting vacations because of the recession!!! There is alot more to the recession than not having money and i think we should start taking notice of it because it is important!!!
I live in Illinois an dour taxes have went up just because of the new year! first it was 7% and now its 9%. So i guess this spring Break ill be shopping in Iowa!!!!!LOL 😉
My spring break is going to be like it always is.
Stayin at home wasnt much of a vacation at all...
A week off is still a week of even if we spend it at home.
My spring break was great and relaxing. And i want to keep it that way!
i think that everyone needs a break. spring break just gives me a time to relax.i dont think that it has affected my familys money issues
Vacation is nothing to special for me. The only thing that changes is I don't have to go to school. I Hang with friends. and clean and once and awhile I will go some where special but that is if we have the time and money! Witch most of the time we don't! But I still have fun.
I Know Some People Who Were Planning On Going All Kinds Of Places For Vacation, But Now They Are Simply Staying Home Because Of The Recession.
My family was supposed to go to Fort Myers Beach, Florida, but because of the recession, we had to stay home and find different things to keep us occupied. We went shopping at our local mall, played sports outside, and went to our friend's homes instead. It was not the same as Florida, but my family still had a good time.
i think when it comes to spring break that we should enjoy it because i mean its a week and everyone just wants to enjoy it unless you're out of school and college!
if i had to describe my vacation i would say it was sunny side up
Even though the eggconomy is messed up, I still had an eggxellent vacation.
p.s I hope this comment was cornier than you carl j/p
i think that when it comes to spring break i enjoy it a lot. it gives me time to rest and relax around my house. so quit yolking around.
The economy effected my spring break, on how much I spent over the weekend. California has a bad "eggonomy" ,I mean economy.
I had a staycation we were going to chicgo but my parents were short on money so we could go
i think they just made the spring brakes so that they won't pay the teachers
I beleive that a Spring Break durring a recession is okay. [Recession] doesn't really have to do with anything kids, at least my age, do;play outside, get on Facebook, ect. So really, I don't think that there is anything to worry about.
We had a festival durning our spring break like we do every year, I noticed some events were canceled due to toe city not having enough funds so it wasn't as fun as it was last year.
This spring break was not as fun as my last one because we couldn't afford to go anywhere for our vacation.
its normally a staycation but sometimes we go some where usally because of the economy
I live in Southern Oregon and there isn't much to do here.I made my own fun and I had a mini party with my best friends at my grandmas house, we pierced our bellybuttons, watched movies, and did all sorts of crazy girl sleepover things. Nothing better than going back to the basics.
i think they made spring brake so the school districts can stop paying there teachers. springbreak is good because alot of money is spent and that helps fill the "budget deficit".
This year money is tight for most families, but if you kept your money tight, a vacation may be feasible.
I stayed home this spring break but you don't always need to go on vacations every chance you get. There are always fun things to do! We had the fair in town that week and I had to show my rabbit for 4H and rode some rides. It doesn't have to be expensive to have some fun! You just have to look around and choose something to do. Or even just simply hang out with friends have sleep overs and do what you want.
At my place for easter, we usually go to my grandmother's house. It's a tradition that we do. But, we've been tight on money and its hard to get the stuff we need or we end up canceling it.
At my school only some of my friends have been able to go somewhere for their spring break. Most of my friends just stayed at home.
The recession has affected our plans to going out of state. My dad and mom have to work really hard now that jobs are scarce, and many people are getting laid off; therefore, we stay home due to the many hours my parents work.
It doesn't affect me, as I anyways have to stay home and prepare for my upcoming exams in May.
The whole spring break I stood home or babysat, my father is the only one bringing in a paycheck, and yet we still don't have enough to keep our heads above water. So I babysat and stood home while my mom went to look for a job, just so I could help our family from drowning.
I think the made spring break so students so they can get a week of and the won't pay the teachers.
This economic time is causing us to not be able to go camping like we always use to do, and it's causing us to have to stay home and have fun there.
The spring breaks are a break for the students and the teachers too. Plus the non- paying.
It has not been easy but we have saved up for years for this trip.
The economy has ruined my spring break because we dont have a lot of money to go on vacation. I barely had enough money to go to my brother's house for spring break. YIKES! Goodbye money..?!?!
The recession wasn't all that bad or me. My family has all ways had a good bit of money.
i think that because money is hard to get ahold of then just stick around durring vacation and do some thing you like to do.
Well i saved my money for a vacation so i have some now and vermont here i come
I am not going anywhere for vacation so it doesnt affect me.
For spring break I am planning to stay home, also we got some so we could were we would like
Although most people do not have enough money to go on a great vacation they can still have fun staying home like you could invite a friend or do stuff with the family outside
Beacuse money is tight normally my family dosent really go on a vacation. normally we just find things to do together as a family.
With my dad not around and my mom working two jobs we still are tight on money and the most we can do is go camping during april vacation
We haven't had our Vacation yet but we will probably just stay home and maybe work or hang out with friends
my family will most likely stay home this vacation, ya its not as fun most of the time but when times are tough u gota sacrifice a little to save money. And sometimes being with our family is fun.Its good bonding time.
i think we shod blam the econame for us having no muney
For me this recession is most likely going to make my spring break a downer, even though I'll be staying home, I won't be able to go to the movies with friends or even have some extra spending money...
on spring break im going fourwheeling in virgina for about 5 days and its gunna b sweet!
This vacation we are staying home due to low amount of money. But staying home is still a vacation.
I'm staying home, because my dad got fired and my mom quit her job. We have no money and get food once a day.
i had a wonderful vacation with my familyin cali and we didnt have but a few dull moments.... 🙂 i love spring bresk
we have to stay home but that doesnt stop us!!! me and my younger siblings have a great time going to the local bilo hunting for sales in a golf car.. we also spend a lot of our time tanning in the southeren sun and most of all.. post vids of us on our youtube channel.. even though money is tight, we at least have each other..recently we have had to make a tough decision to sell two of our cars... but, biking is a great way to save money and it is good for the enviroment
I'm staying home, because most of my freinds are in town. Why go some place were you have never been and have no freinds or know anyone? At home you can also just hang out and have fun for a low price. The economy hasn't really had much of an effect on my family, and I think it should stay that way.
my familiy is staying here becase my mom has to work and my dad works only the first day of vaction i think.
My father's company don't have enough money to pay employees. So
they asked their employees not to work in vacation time. Our family will squeeze our wallet and go to vacation somewhere but it will be shorter then usual.
Well My Scool Hasn't Really Suffered From The Economy At Least That I Can See....On The Other Hand, My Cousin's School Has Been Suffering A Lot!!!
im poor and i cant really do anything exept go easter egg hunting with my brother
We usually go somewhere over spring break, but my dad got a new position at his work, so his spring break is not at the same time as mine. We are saving up to go to France this summer too, so no spending otherwise.
My whole life, I have never gone on a real "vacation" for spring break because my family could never afford it but this year, I get to go to Maine to see my sister in-laws family with my brother and her. They are paying for me to go and get back. Because of the recession, my family just can not afford much.
I went to Disney and Universal
Oh my god! I didnt realize how bad the ecomony was
We never go anywhere over spring break anyway. Most the time parents are working during our spring break so we cant go anywhere anyway.
I'm staying at home because it's cheaper i have to help watch my baby brother he's nice but stubborn.
I had my spring break a couple of weeks ago and literally did NOTHING. We did not go out to eat, we did not go shopping... I pretty much just watched TV all day.
Basically, i think that not being able to have spring break like it's always been is really unfair. It's like it's gone down in value or something! hello people, spring breaks' supposed to be fun!
my mom got layed off so i had to stay home during spring break and we couldnt do anything fun because it was bad weather so we just kinda watched movies. how fun. |:
"I think we should get paid over spring break so we can go on a vacation with out worrying about not getting paid."
This was tough because of the resession we cant all go on vacation or go some were because of how costly it would be..
Our spring break consists every year of going to Baseball games or going out sight seeing. I have a feeling that this year due to the economic crisis, I will be watching the games at home. But it doesn't matter, spending time with my family is the best spring break I can have.
The recession hasn't shown up at all in my town, so my family and i took the usual trip to the Bahamas to visit family that we take every year. The problem of money hasn't become and issue yet even in this bad economy.
I have never been on a vacation.. My family has never had the money.
the recession has not effected us that much, we are still going on vacation, but even before the recession we did not go on that many.
The recession is not affecting my spring break at all. I'm actually going to Florida with my friend, and while I'm gone my family is going to go to a few sports games. We are lucky in the fact that the recession has not affected our family.
My parents have both managed to keep their jobs and despite the economic recession, we are still going on vacation. We are touring ski mountains in New England.
we will be going to many diffrent places for summer vacation, and staying there for 3 days and 2 nights. so happy
My family just ended up going to an amusement park over Spring Break. it was a great and fun way to spend time togetherand since we already had all season passes it was very chap too.
My family has always stayed home over vacations. We rarely go anywhere. It won't be different for me, but for other families it's going to be tough because during vacation, lots of families go and see other family in different places. But now some will have to stay because of money issues. I think staying is probably the most logical thing.
My family is one of those types of families that are neither rich nor poor. We are in the middle. Usually we don't go anywhere for springbreak because we can't afford it, but this year we went to florida. This Spring Break recession hasn't really changed my life. All my mom did was save up so we could go on a trip, so I don't believe it has affected my family.
this year spring break wasnt like the last ones. My family is have money issues with this recession but we still made it fun.
with my dads hours cut back this winter money has been tight so we can go camping
i am going to be working all vacation, fun fun
Spring break during a recession is going to be the exactly the same as always.......a staycation
we are going on a vacation back to my home town in mexico it will be awesome
every year we go on a vacation!! but this time were not!!
were soo tight in budget!!
my dad has no job!!
..these are hard times..
🙁 no vaction for me!!
People need to relize that spring break isnt always about vactioning...but yes its nice to have a vacation time....I had a great spring break by just sitting at home hanging out with my family and having close friends from around come over and just hangout!...it was less costly and we had a blast! I think we should all try to do the same!
Money for spring break has been much tighter than before. We will probably find cheaper things to do locally, and not go away on vacation.
I am going Turkey hunting with a buddy of mine and that will be my vacation.
Spring break was actually really good for me this year, in fact, maybe the best I have ever had. Our family never goes on vacations but this year we went on a mini one and stayed two nights at a hotel in Lake Geneva. I was better to go on a mini vacation and still be able to do lots of other fun stuff at home than to blow all of your money on a two week trip. People can still have a really good spring break even if they aren't going anywhere. Think about what spring break is all about anyway (at least to me) relaxing, taking a break, and spending time with family and friends. It can be hard sometimes but you should definitely try to make the best of it.
I know that many people are suffering from the recession, and I think the best way to help fix this problem is to put more money into the economy. My parents are taking me to a hotel for my mom's birthday and we're going out to eat. But other than that, we don't really have anything planned.
Me and my family are definitely having a "staycation" this year. Staying home for vacation isn't a big change from past years because my family is big but this year there is no chance that we are traveling. We have to save, save, save so we can stretch our dollars farther.
I LOVE SPRING BREAK AND GOING ON VACATION. EVERYONE NEEDS TO GO ON VACATION.
My parents are having a hard time earning money for traveling so since kindergarten all the way to 7th grade I've never traveled to anywhere during spring break.
This year I'm having a staycation, like most years. I think it's actually more fun because you get to see your friends and have a break from school.
I usually don't do things during spring break because I am doing sports constantly and I will be going to a camp this year.
I'm not doing anything special for vacation. We've always been tight on money.
What I would get out of Collage is to learn more about the job I like and to get more info about the job I want
MOney for spring break has been tight, people have not been able to travel as far or have as much fun...Even though it is fun...you can't travel as far and go see family half way across the USA.
in spring break it was my birthday.
I think it’s important to go to college for many reasons. I think it’s important to go because you can get a degree. Getting a degree is very important because you can get a good paying job. I also think it’s important so you can get a good education. You need a good education because the more you know the higher you are.
I realy did not notice the recession untill my parents did not take us on vacation oveer break. Lots of families did not go on trips this break even if they usually do.
I'll stay home save up money for a bigger vacation later in the future.
If I have a spring break time, I would go tavel in Japan or USA anywhere.. i poured my energy for my future,,
I want to leave somewhere during break time~^_^_>;lo,l
since i just moved away from my dad, i always visit him on my vacations, but i can't right now because times are tough, and it costs to much for gas, for the amount of time i would be going there for, back and forth.
Im really excited about spring break!! I probably will go visit my neices and nephews!!
During spring break, I usually hang out around town anyways and not go anywhere special. It will be the same for me this year as any year.
I think its a good idea because we all need a break from school you cant keep us there ll year its going to stress us out and make us mess up and not care
ENJOY Spring Break!!!
sometimes we take vacations but I kinda like just hanging around the house and doing things with my friends. we always find something alotta fun to do.
i would have a vacation because you should spend those 90 days with your family on vacatoin.
I had an awesome vacation!! We all went to see friends in New Jersey and it was great! The recession did not get involved in my spring vacation!!!
i went to a carnival but i would most likely want to go to isreal i love break it gives kids to have some time and be free from school i wish it would be fro 2 weeks
i had a wonderful spring brake. i went to the shore and the carnivil. i hope that every1 hade a great spring break...
We were supposed to go to another country over the break, but we didn't because it is too expensive and my dad's job isn't as stable as before. So, I just stayed home and hang out. The recession is really starting to hit us.
In this recession, my mother has to go to work everyday just to maintain her job. I can't even remember the last time she was out of work. This is crazy I don't think a 2-day off should cost you your job. Everybody deserves a break. =)
My family hasn’t been affected by the recession too much, but I recently got a car and my family can’t afford to pay for my car, gas, and insurance all together that’s a lot of money especially the way gas has gone up, so I had to get a job. When you are sixteen and just start working you can’t just leave for a whole week and expect to comeback and still have a job because there are many people who would be willing to take your spot so I couldn’t go anywhere.
It doesn't so much affect my vacation plans. Normally my family doesn't go anywhere, and if we do its pretty close to home. It does affect a lot of people though.
My spring brake ws the un thinkable. I went up to my house in the moutains. It was quiet. But I had an ATV. That was the only good part.
i think that for spring break i would go on a vacation because on vacations i might go and discover something new and i love discovering new things that one of my favorite hobbies. all i got to say is don't choose pay cation or stay cation
My spring wasnt as fun as last year was because we had more money to spend. I still got to do stuff just not as much. It would suck that you couldnt do anything over spring break because thats the second most important time kids look to having off besides christmas break.
It was fun, In Wisconsin it can be boring but this time it was good because we had nice weather and my friends and I had many sleepovers..fun fun fun. My parents and I did a lot of family bonding together.
Spring break didn't seem much different from last year, but I saw a lot of people trying to cut down on prices.
a recession is not ruining my spring break and i think we should still have one.
I had a triple sleepover with my friend at her house and we had a blast <3 🙂
I go on vacations at least 4 times in the winter to Florida. This is awsome to beable to have houses in other states, but it can be fun tobe on a staycation because you are with your friends and you know where everything is in that state.
during spring break my dad took my sisters and i out so my mom can clean the house for passover. while we where out we first went to ihop then we went to color me mine and then we went to go see a movie after the movie we went to walk around the mall.
it is not effecting any of my plans. but i think it might stop peaple from going on vacation.
The recession didn't really affect my family at all. We never planned on going on a vacation, but even if we had wanted to go on a vacation, it probably wouldnt' have been a problem at all. I know other people have canceled their vacations because of gas prices, and unemployment. But my family wasn't affected.
This year my family went to pam springs with our friends.
its not effecting any of my plans.because every year i dont go any where but new york and new jersey
It seems to me that times are tough, but for some reason, there's always enough money to spare for family time, no matter how close to home it is.
Sometimes i stay at home but it depends on if i am sick.
for spring break I went to my 2nd house. IT was kinda fun because we went down to [a] lake.
...I don't really think spring break means anything, but to other college and upper class men in high school spring break is a HUGE deal! In my opinion I think it's kind of crazy to have a "staycation" and a "paycation". Our economy isn't too great right now and to add to vacations to it for college and high school students is a bad idea. People rarely have enough money to pay for groceries.
