Have you witnessed bullying?
While speaking at a school recently, I asked more than 400 students packed into a gym if they'd ever been bullied.  I'd say about 60-70 percent of them raised their hands.

There are a lot of different kinds of bullying:  physical, verbal, cyber-bullying...  We don't mean joking with your friends or the occasional insult - bullying goes beyond that.  And we'd like to get your ideas on how it can be stopped.

I think that we should all know what bullying does to the kids that are gettin' bullied it sucks you are used to some things yet others you're not use to. we should tell a teacher if any kid is getting bullied. it matters if you are the one that gets bulllied and you keep it to your self. people who see other people get bullied should a tell an adult or b confront the bullier and tell them to stop other wise the will go to an adult

I think that bullying should ever be done in school. If say you are getting bully in school you should just ask him to stop it, or tell a teacher about it.

I think it's up to us to report bullying thats going on. Always think, If you witness somebody bullying someone else and don't tell anybody or stand up for them, thats bullying too.

Bullying is only a result of one's own abuse whether it have been from a family member or another peer. The only way to stop it is to stop insulting each other and realize that nobody can be perfect and everyone has their own quirks.

teachers are the biggest problem we have when it comes to buiiying in our school system and children are what their parents teach them, so I feel like this is a problem we will be dealing with for a long time. I have a 10 yr, old granddaughter who is over weight and she has been called names since she started school-–maybe she could handle that but she doesn't know how to deal with the teachers in her school who never listen to her side of the story if she mouths back to these mean students. This child is very smart and will someday have much to offer this world, but I fear the opinion of society will beat her down. DO ON TO OTHERS WHAT YOU WOULD HAVE THEM DO TO YOU!!!! Come on adults and teach the children kindness and not hate!@

Bullying can't be stopped. As long as a bully doesn't have conscience, and won't feel guilty about what they're doing, they would continue causing problems.

I have witnessed many problems. My bus for instance. I see physical activity everyday and i also see aggressive language. I have also found many laws in the school handbook that have been broken and no one does a thing about it. Most bullying is really irritating at my school.

To stop the bullying, we should make some rules and enforce the laws. The students might not do it if they know they will get big, hateful punishment

I really think we should stop bullying at school or at home because a lot people will end up getting hurt badly. We should stop and should be ask to stop. We should stop bullying and be nice to each other. Being nice will help others at school or where ever you are.

Most bullying occurs on the playground (in elementary school) or in the lunchroom. Their should be more adults around these areas to listen closer to what the kids say to one another. If their's not an adult aroound, kids need to be able to trust their teachers to tell them things like that.

If you get bullied you should go to the school conselor and talk to him/her. I think by adding emotional intelligent classes then bullies can get out their feelings too.

I think that bullies bully because they think they need to get attention. I think that people that get bullied need to hang out with their friends more in a group of people and I think they need to have surveys (to check for issues of bullying) every couple of months or so.

We are not gonna make it easy for a time, because bullying itself is diffucult to be stopped among students thesedays, Am i too pessimistic? No. I don't think so. If you ask 100 teenagers whether they have been sorry for somebody, when they tease them , most of them would say no. As such, the difference between bullying and teasing is very slight. Much more teenagers than you thought, are not fully aware that they are doing something wrong or inappropriate, since they do not really think that their trivial 'jokes' can affect others so much. Lacking ability to understand other's feelings is a real problem. Therefore, we must focus more on education than just punishing so-called 'bad guys', in order to improve their missing ability.

Bully is bad because it makes the other person feel bad about themself. Often times the person who is the bully does it because they really don't feel very good about themself so they do it to hurt others and make them feel good.

In schools, teachers, principals, and other workers should pay close attention to the interactions between kids, as well as see if some are showing signs of abuse that they may not want to speak out about.

I am a teacher in NC and our state just passed stricter laws involving incidents of bullying. We have shared this with parents and students. Our school'd goal is to equip students with strategies to help them avoid being bullied and role play so they can practice them. For example: avoidance, humor, walk with confidance (body language). Students, and parents, also need to be told bullying will NOT be tolerated and understand the consequences in place if it does occur.

Bully happens everyone, even I have been bullied. My brother has been bullied even worst. Cyber-bullying is the worst kind, in my opinion, Because, one click of a button and it can go all over the world, all over Facebook, Myspace, Twitter...Anything. Once it is on the internet it doesn't go away, it's there forever. If teachers are going to be in schools, saying they are protecting kids, then they better start enforcing it better.

Bullying is a problem, but it is hard to stop because of how wide spread it is. You can do it online there is no protection online. In school the only way the bully can be caught is if someone rats them out. Which is bad because the bully will come after them next. Bullies can only be caught if there is a teacher there. Most likely the bully is smarter than to do it in front of a teacher.

Many students that are being bullied dont or wont say anything because they are afraid that when the bully finds out somehow, the kid or person will get hurt which shouldnt happen. But if you see or you are getting bullied GO to the nearest administrator or teacher and let them know so grow a backbone and do it. DONT BE SCARED!!!

By definition, teens are immature; their brains not yet being fully developed, 'allow' them to make poor choices. That said, there is [still] no excuse for this, and we, as educators, must always be on the lookout to intervene in teasing/bullying. That school officials knew Phoebe was being targeted and apparently did little or nothing is more than troubling and may be criminal. School expectations need to be consistantly taught and enforced, and, repeat perpetrators should be removed from their schools. Harrassement outside of school, via electronic methods and others, should be reported to civil authorities–police. [I question, however, how much the police can or will do in such situations?]

I believe that it is not nice for people to bully people because they might not show back up to school or come out of there house. Here at are school we do not have much bullying here at are school. they should just go and tell someone that is bullying them so they can take care of them

Every school should have a policy that requires action when an incident of bullying is reported. This policy should be designed by the staff, parents, police, and students. The policy should be part of the curriculum and every parent, student and teacher should know their rights, responsibilities and consequences regarding the policy. This would ensure that all complaints are taken seriously and will be delt with.

I, as a girl, can't believe a group of girls would be so mean to bully a girl into killing herself... over a boy. I think it's completely ridiculous and incredibly juvenile. I think this is on the shoulders of the school officials and students who saw it going on and just stood by and watched. The United States should have already learned the dangers of bullying from the past tragedies like Columbine and schools need to make students aware that bullying is NOT okay and it needs to stop. There really isn't much the police can do, you can't go to jail for bullying someone into killing themselves. So the perpetrators probably won't get the severe punishment they deserve, which is completely ridiculous as well. Phoebe's school needs to look at it's anti-bullying polices and make some extreme changes.

Bullying might be able to be reduced, but not stopped. We could have cameras and people watching, but some people won't care. We could raise the consiquinces, but people can get around them. We can try to reduce it, but it will never end.

one way to stop bullying is to tell a teacher if someone is getting bullied. alot of kids grew up thinking oh if you tell one someone then your a snich but in this case you might just save someones life.

I think the only way to stop bullying is for kids to start telling a TRUSTED adult. You have to telll an adult that you know will do something about it. & then you have to stick up for yourself & not let them bully you. You have to try to help yourself before you ask others.

I think that bullying is a real hazard and people who bully must stop. People who bully normally don't do very good in school (Cs in Social Studies). I think htey want to vent their anger on more sucessful students. Teachers must learn to keep their eyes and ears peered or else students will be like Phoebe

First start at the smaller levels of education and teach that bulling is wrong. An if wintess you should tell a person in charge. The responabilily falls back kon the teachers and staff. If a student has come to you or if you have seen it needs to be reported. Bullying maybe could lead to a school shootings. We see in the news where a child brings a gun to school, most of the time that child has suffered from bullying. We need stricter laws and rules in schools to punish person(s) involed. This could have been avoided if teachers and staff had payed enough attention.

I don't necessarily think it's impossible to put bullying out of power, but it is near impossible to completely end it. What's sad is that the way they demonstrate it through "Anti-Bullying" videos is nowhere near realistic. Blood can be drawn, words (cusswords) can be heard, and lots of times, the kids get away with that! The teachers seem to keep on giving warnings. When they say to a bully in my class, "This is your last warning," I think to myself, "Isn't that what they said last time?"

So the only real way to obliterate bullying is to actually punish and not just warn.

Our family is a victim of student bullying. Our son was severly made fun of in regards to weight. He totally lost his self esteem, began skipping classes and became anorexic as a result.
The faculty responded with "point the bullies out" and they will be punished.
Is it any wonder that with an attitude like this that adolescents choose not to come forward with this issue to avoid further peer comments?

Bully......hm....my brother has been bullied his whole life and no matter what we do to help him nothing seems to stop it. we've gone to the school and all the teachers and they talk to the kids bullying him but no matter what they always continue to do it.....one time at a fair my brother and I were getting on a ride when one of the kids that bullied was in front of us. The bully turned around and started saying rude things to him and even though I didn't know the guy and he was much older than me I got in front of my brother and looked the guy square in the eye and told him to leave my brother alone.....The guy looked back at me for a few seconds then turned around and left my brother around......Maybe if there's some other student there to help defend him the bullies will stop. I didn't even think about what I was doing but after I did it I was happy to have been there and defended my brother.

No matter how hard we try to stop bullying it is always going to happen! People just think it is funny, and it amuses them, even when teachers or adults find out. and give them a punishment. The bully will just go right back out and do it all over again. Possibly to the same person they were bulling before. I think that if some one sees or hears something about it they should tell an adult or if an adult sees something they should report it. Because if they tell some one there is a chance that they can stop it before it gets to the point of suicide..

our school does alot to stop bullying and i dont think it is right to just let it happen. so if we all just stand up to make a stand who knows bullying just might come to an end so really its everyones responsibility, not just the teachers or students or people being bullyed everyone needs to work at it!

There are programs that use scientific method and will produce repeatable results. These programs are inexpensive and easy to implement. Still only 1% of US schools use these proven programs. The reason seems to be legal issues. Attorney's have advised school systems that if they use these worth while programs they will be liable if someone dies. Sadly, school administrators are choosing to "look" accountable by posting 'No Bullying' signage as opposed to putting in programs that actually work like the "Olweus Anti-Bullying Program". Of course kids should tell an adult. Then the adult needs to act until it is resolved. What we get is teachers telling kids not to tattle starting in preschool. By the time kids hit high school they have the message. I guess that is why kids don't tell. I hope they prosecute the school employees who allow this stuff to run rampant. They know what they should be doing but they choose the CYA approach instead. If a parent makes to much fuss they will just find a way to get rid of them and what we are seeing now is the results of that type of misguided, unjust, mind set.

    March 31, 2010 at 12:24 pm |
  56. Ryan

The causes and effects of bullying are extremely varying, but the resolutions are few. One way to help would be hypnotherapy as the trauma experienced by the victim can be erased and replaced with a positive outlook, high self esteem, and the confidence to stand up for oneself. On the other hand the bully can be recalled to the events that first caused them to resort to bullying others in the first place, thus allowing one to apply hypnotic suggestion to replace their bad (bullying) habits with better (friendlier) habits or if that is not possible at least to consider the receiving ends situation whenever urges and impulses do arise.

I don't believe bullying will ever go away, people will always find some way to physically or mentally bully one another. Depending on how people are raised they will either bully others, or be bullied themselves. For example, I'm darker colored skin and most people at my school are caucasian, some of which tend to be racist, some bullying will never stop. Some people get bullied so much they just keep to themselves and try to ignore the fact that it's happening and just try to continue on with their lives. But it will eventually consume the person from the inside, and eventually have suicidal thoughts.

Today bullying is getting way out of hand and we can avoid this if we start talking about it to younger kids it might make things more easier. But telling the older kid will have mostly have already started bullying or will not listen.

I do believe that if one was to do a semi annual research. Lets say from the time that our uncle Sam declaired that there was not to be any praying allowed within any public schools. We will find a steady growth in bulling along with many other types of violance within our school systems within this great country of ours. Look in our history books and you will religion everywhere. You cannot force love on anyone it has to be received from someone before one can share it. Come on lets get real.

In our school we have a group called natural helpers who try to find ways to illuminate the most bulling in our school as possible. Some kids in our school think there's no way of stopping bulling when they are probably the ones being bullied or bulling someone else. But really if they just stood up for that one or many being bullied they could probably put a stop to it or get some one to help stop it. If one individual or a group of individuals think they are better than one or many other individuals they try to make themselves feel like they are way better than them so they bully them to make them feel small. Its not cool and does not make you any cooler by bulling someone else. There is no need what so ever for it and it really irritates me when people are like that. They must be insecure them selves if they have to do that to someone else.

I don't think that bullying can fully be stopped. Some ways to help bullying is to report it to a teacher or adult if you see it happening. Also for the person that gets bullied, they need to learn to stand up for themselves and learn to not let it bother them.

So i think that teachers should teach kids not to bully because you never know what the kid will do after a while and it can cause really bad things to the kid that is being bullied and to the kids that are bullying. so I think that it should ba exxagerated if it happens and immedently.

there is a lot of bullying that goes on at the high school I go to and some times it turns into fights because the kids that have been picked on actually stand up for them selves. That's when the big problem forms and kids start committing suicide because they cant handle the stress any more.

I think that if teachers are around people will bully less because they don't want to get in trouble. If I was a bully I would do it when no teachers are around. Bullying should not be tolerated ever it is just wrong. We should help each other not be jerks.

Yes I have been bullied and people need to figure out that they are going to get pay back and defend theirself and they will somtime.

I wish I haven't witnessed bullying before, but I have and even if you're only witnessing it still sucks. And if you've witnessed bullying you shouldn't just stand by and watch, you should do something about it.

I have been a victim of being bullied and like alot of people get fedup and decide to defend theirselfs. One of the only reosonses they do it is you care and dont can there one who cares the least hase the most power. like for me the think im an easy target until i get mad and defend myself.

I think a way to stop bullying is to have a teacher explain EXACTLY what will happen if you are caught bullying a person. Also, bullying is most common after school and at recess.Meaning, the shool should have more teachers at recess so the bully will stop bullying the bullied, becuase they will think there will be a more chance they will be caught.

my name is tori and i think bulling is a serious issue! I personaly have been bullied many times! there have been times that i was even thinking of ending my life, yet i didn't.I learned a very important lesson. i learned that there is always someone that cares about you and to never stop fighting for love! god gave us three amazing gifts: faith, hope, and love. the greatest of these is love! use these gifts wisely and don't EVER forget that you are ALWAYS loved!

Bullying is just a way to make yourself feel powerful and in control. I have been bullied before and it feels terrible. Sometimes, teachers see bullying, but they don't think it's a big deal and they just let the bully continue bullying. Some kids think that it would be "uncool" to tell the teacher about being bullied and they think it might get worse. That usually happens...but remember!!! You just told the teacher about it and they will keep an eye on you..so if you're bullied again, the teacher will punish the bully! Whew...

I know how bad Phoebe felt. I was there too. It really hurts. Bullying hurts. It really just hurts. The school is entirely at fault. If Phoebe's mom contacted the school TWICE, and the code of conduct wasn't enforced, well, there are major holes that need to be plugged. Why do the people have to see the importance until something fatal happens?

I don't think it's the kids but the adults who are responsible for bullying and its growth. My cousins got into a lot of fights at their school, and when the parents talked to the principal, nothing happened. The school districts really need to pay attention to what people do before they hire them to run a whole school.

I think the way to make kids to to stop bullying is for the police to get involved in what they are doing. Kids wanna get away with things and feel good bout no getting caught but if more and more kids get in trouble more and more kids will stop.

I think that bulling is horrible , especailly when it is so bad that people want to do suicide. It really sucks.I think that people should go talk to schools about bulling and what can happen to that person that is getting bullied.and tell them how serious suicide is.because most kids don't really think people will actually do suicide.

Kids get bullied at school and don't wanna tell anybody until it gets serious. I think the kids need more support with dealing with their problems at school so it might be helpful for teachers to get involved.

I think that bullying is a big problem because when people start acting like a bully they do not know what to say so they just say something dumb and the people that are not bullies are nice and when the bullies say something dumb the nice people start to do things that are crazy like killing themselves.

When we saw this story in class, we had a small debate. Alot of the kids in my class are "Bullies", my teacher asked if anyone was a bully in the class and nobody said anything. Maybe bullies just don't recognize what they are doing, or maybe they do. Maybe bullys need help seeing that what they are doing is wrong.

I think that bullying can be stopped in certin schools but not everywhere. In my school to help people with bullying, we put up fliers and a thing in every room called a "bully box." You write in the person who's bullying you and put it into a mailbox. So it just goes to show that in our school, from the "bully box", the number or bullying has decreased! But sometimes, I start to think that bullying will never die down. Sorry to the people who have been bullied but it sometimes can't stop!

Bullying is not a joke. It may start that way but like a flame it gets bigger. the slightest bad comment, can be the biggest flame!! when a flame is too big the only water is you,at least that's what it feels like. When people feel like that, they think like that they also feel as if they must sacrifice themselves to make it go away. Always think before you say!!!:)

Horrible! How can anyone do that to someone yes i understand some of it but this went way to far! She commited suicide and i think its part schools fault for not doing anything about it when her mom told them about it! Its just sad to me! a way we can stop bullying is getting peoples parents involed, people who bully others dont go home and tell there parents anything. Parents need to know this stuff and take control before stuff like this happens.Becouse if the school trys to help without contacting home there is WAY to many problems they need to call home and get the family in this stuff! It just makes me realy sad to know that the school didnt help! And i know that her parent got involed but find someone to pick your child up from after school if u have to when i have kids and i find out they r being bullied u better sure belive im going to get involed that is just nonsence that someone was put through that! So parents get involed help your children out!

I think that schools should look more closely at what their students are doing. maybe installing video cameras, teachers on the look out on what is going when students are switching classes or during class, and also bus drivers looking every now ,and then to check on the students. Bullying is something that happens in schools, internet, and even by phones. If people could stop bullying schools would be much better!

Bullying is one of the hardest things to be stopped. It happens everywhere, and if teachers see it, they should say it's happening. If teachers are in charge of our learning, they aren't teaching us well when they let bullying happen. Students shouldn't be worried about bing called "tatle tale" or "snitch" because they are doing the right thing.

Ways you can stop bullying, tell a teacher, adult and parents. You can help the person who needs help with the bulLying problem by talking to them and taking up for them .When you get bullied do not keep it inside cause it may cause problem in your life...........

To stop BULLYING we need to pay more attention to the students in the school. Some of the AP's in the school should have one on one time with each of their students and ask them have they ever seen bullying at school. This will make them pay more attention to the students in the school........

There are many ways to stop bullying. like if you see bulling you should go up to that person and tell them that they shouldn't bully other people because they were probably bullied when they were younger. If someone was verbally bullied you should report it to a teacher or an administrations office and let them handle that bully. If you were ever cyber-bullied, like they make fun of you in the internet, you shouldn't even respond to it and just let it go, because if you let it get to you and get worse and worse, and it will tear you up inside making you feel unconfortable. The best way to stop bullying is to watch and pay attention to the students and people around you, because if you see people gettting bullied you can show how not to bully people. If you aren't bullying people, the people will be much happier and there wont be any signs of suicides. I believe people that bully other people should see a pschycologist about their problems and get it solved quick because bullying affects peoples lives alot!

Bulling is horrible! I have been bullied several times by friends and people who dont even know me. Not to long ago i too thought of suicide as my only escape, but i was lucky and found a true friend before i got that far.

This girl just moved to a new place and was trying to find her way to fit in at a high school. High school is stressful, but imagine on top of that you had just moved. You dont know anybody, and now everyone hates you. You would bein to think there is something wrong with you, and soon enough you would hate yourself to the point of suicide.

Personally i think that there is no punnishment that these bullies can recieve that is severe enough. They caused a persons death, and in my opinion there is no way to be punished or forgiven of that crime.

If people would just think about how everyone else is feeling, then bulling would stop and porlems like this would never happen.

If you see it going on at school, tell a teacher and they will do the best they can to stop it or report it. If you are in your neighborhood and you see someone be bullied, tell a parent or guardian. If it is really out of hand, call the police. There are many ways bullying can be stopped.

I believe bullying is the students, not the teacher's issue. Still I think that teachers/any adult should intervene if they see it occure. However bullying will stop when the students/youth take a stand against it. The government, nor authority cannot fix everything. If you see someone getting bullied stand up for them. It is that easy. Be their friend. Your reputation does not matter when you are saving a life.

There are so many ways of stopping bullying. Most students in my school are bullies. One of the ways i know is to just ignore it and ask them to stop! If it continues... talk to your parents and the school principal. Don't wait for your parents to do something about it. If none of that works, go straight to the bullies parents! You should be old enough to end it yourself. Suicide isn't the answer in any way.

When I was in elementary school, I was bullied almost every day. It was horrible. It was always a certain group of girls. It was always verbal and emotional abuse. Whenever I was tripped in the halls, they always said stuff like, "Dang! Watch where you're going Dumbo!" However, all that bullying started to die out when I got to Middle School, and then stopped. I'm currently still in High School, and because of all that bullying that has happened to me, it made me the person I am today – a self-conscious person who has to look down when she walks, but I am a strong, independent person who can fight and defend for herself now.
So I believe that while it's happening, it sucks, but later on in life, it'll have helped you with problems as an adult.

I think that bullying prevention should be started at a young age, when it should be encouraged to be friends with everyone, and respect people. At my school, for 6th and 7th grade, the police showed us videos of the extreme results of bullying, mostly cyberbullying. although the program was a good effort, and made many people double think about cyber bullying, i think it would be more helpful to teach students how to deal with the situation. bullying is not something that you can get rid of, because some people are just mean. but, what you can do is show students how to stand up for themselves, and not just say go tell a teacher, or an authority figure. although that is helpful, it does not solve the problem, and can increase the bullying when that authority figure is not there. the students are the ones who have to change or stop bullying, not the teachers.

I think it's unfair to any student who is bullied.
no student should ever be afraid to go to school because that's all they have to look forward to is being picked on.
School's can push dress codes, swearing, even vandalism, but they cant control, or wont try and control bullying?!
So many students deal with the criticism of others so often and after a while of pushing well this is what happens, they give up!
Their whole family and now everyone at school and everyone who hears about it stands alone with out her because the few people in authority that could have prevented this chose not to!
But like every other situations, now that it's too late to save her life we'll be sure to put a stop to it to save others!
    What about her family?!
What about those who have already ended their own lives with out answers could it have been for the same reason?
we'll never know but now we'll make sure to stop it i guess.
I don't know this girl from any other girl in this world, but i hope she rests in peace i truly do, i hope her family gets along well, and stays strong, because no life is easy after losing a loved on especially because of suicide, and last i really hope students, parents, teachers, adults, everyone, realizes that the things we ignore and chose not to handle can turn out bad. Bullying happens in every school everyday but everyone is just too afraid to stop it! WHY?!

Many people say that if a kid who is being bullied stands up to the bully, it'll eventually stop. That is approximately 94% false. Most of the bullies find it funny, and they will retaliate. They won't like the fact that someone they BELIEVE is weak is standing up to them. To most bullies, it's all about a feeling of self-accomplishment and pride. School is like a food chain. If the antelopes start picking on the lions, they will attack back and will eat the antelopes. Another reason why they bully, is because they feel insecure about themselves, and they feel like they need to expose others before they themselves are exposed.
HOWEVER the 6% of the cases that I kind of mentioned earlier will respect and befriend (and sometimes protect) their ex-victim.

I think bullying is very very unfair. Students bully others but they don't realize what they really did until that person is gone. They are preventing lives. Something abaoluetly needs to be done with this situation.

You have to teach kids to respect other people. You also have to teach kids to view each person the same way. Our world has changed so much with technology. Kids think they can say whatever they want on a technology device, without saying it to their face. There should be programs to stop cyberbullying.

I think a way that bulling can be put to a stop is if the principle and teachers do stuff about it that will make them stop. Teachers and principles do punish bulleys in some cases but they need to do something that will actually affect the bully to were he gets that what he is doing is not acceptable, and schools now days dont do that.

Bullying really needs to be cracked down on. It's hardly ever enforced in schools or even talked about until something tragic happens like it did to Pheobe Prince. Being different than a certain group makes you a target, it isn't fair that you should be bullied because of different likes or dislikes.

    March 31, 2010 at 6:39 pm |

Well the schools should reinforce that there should be no more bullying, so stuff like suicide and murder won't happen do to bullying. If the schools keep seeing bullying then they should do something about it like expelling the kids or detention or something so the bully's will stop.

Bullying is absolutely wrong. No kid should bully another. Some kids may not tell teachers because they're afraid of being bullied themselves or don't want to be called a snitch. I think we need to get the message out there to every kid to stop bullying and if you see it, please report it.

I don't think its going to stop if we don't do something, but nobody wants to stand up for someone because they're afraid of getting harrassed themself, and most teachers don't really do anything even if they see it. We need a change

I dislike bullying a lot, i have been a victim of bullying many times. kids are cruel some times, but then some times your just the kid by the printer getting flicked in the head because the kid is bored. i do not know the extent of the bullying that that poor girl suffered but i do not get bullied to the extent that i would have any thought of suiside... i am very sorry for that girls family. I think they should pass this law to help stop bullying.no one should ever think of suiside they should always go to someone, somebody will be willing to help.

Bulling should be stopped. School is where you are supposed to get along with others. if you or a friend is getting bullied then you two or how many people should be the bigger man by showing them you had enough. If you are the bully then you should know that person in the future could be a big success in life. Bulling is a way that people try to show that kids think they are better than other kids and think they can do whatever they want. They know if you dont react they will never leave you alone unless you stand up for youself and alert parents and teachers if they continue.

Unfortunately bullying has gotten worse and worse, as each new generation continues on into school. While I was in school I was bullied almost constantly and moving to new schools did not really help much either. And I do not think this girl was overreacting...its hard to be picked on, made fun of, and be called names..it hurts and its very personal, no matter what anybody says its hard not to listen when they say mean things...I think the school, did not respond to this story of bullying soon enough...it went way further than it should have which was irresponsible on the school, teachers and the administrations part...its their fault mostly for letting this continue. I really feel for this girl because no body deserves to be made fun of its just not right.

I have expirenced bullying some piont in my life time but it was all because of my appirence and what clothes I wore. I think that some people should tell some one about this and if some one is getting bullied at your school tell a teacher or the principal at your school so it won't end up just like this. the people who saw Phebe getting bullied should of told someone because when they didn't they were technicly breaking the law too.

I've seen many events where someone was being bullied at my school. I think that the way to fix that in the physical school is to require more teachers in the halls and teach students about the consequences of bullying.

I think bullying is not very appropriate. Most bullies only pick on other people just to make them feel better about themselves. Parents and teachers need to get really involved and use proper punishment for something like this. You saw what this girl did to herself, just imagine the thousands of other kids who are also bullied, what if they all committed suiscide too? This subject should really be recognized!

    March 31, 2010 at 7:59 pm |

I think that the kids who get bullied shouldn't suicide themselves. But like they should ask for advice from teachers or somebody they can talk to. Or they can just stay away from them or ignore them, but I don't think anybody deserves to be bullied in any kind of way.

p.s. bully's out there if your gonna bully somebody think before you say something because that can really hurt somebody's feeling...

I think that bullying isn't acceptible its the students fault but the teachers need to look for the bullying too.Parents should also look to see if the child is depressed or not because if thats the case then you should talk to that child before it leads to something more serious like suicide.

Nobody should be bullied, nor do it themselves. It's very disappointing,
to see or witness bullying. I myself, have experienced the "crime". I've
played the role of the victim, been the audience, and occasionally, done it to others. It's nothing to be proud of, trust me. Like the old saying, "Do unto others as you would have others do unto you"...

The best way to stop bullying? It depends on the POV [point of view] that you have. The 3 POVs:

    1. Bully: Just stop doing it. Its that easy. If they are different, or have done something to hurt you, either put aside your differences, or tell a teacher or guidence conuslor.

    2. Bystander: Tell a teacher, break it up, comfort the bullied!!! All you have to do is get involoved!!

    3. Bullied: Tell a teacher. If it has gotten out of hand, or it just bothers you, the ABOSLUT best thing that you can do is tell a teacher.

The 3 B's of bullying. And the basic bullying stopping tecneques for each one. Back to you Carl.

I don't think it was any of those kids buisness messing around with that girl because they didn't like who she was going out with or they were jealus one of the two.the teachers also should have put a stop to it once they knew it was getting out of hand.

It doesn't matter what the schools do to prevent the bullying situation therefore it is the parents. Parents need to teach their kids what is right or wrong or else their ignorance will soon carry on to school. The type of environment causes bullying, too. If you live in a bad and dirty environment, get a group to clean it all up and hopefully children's additudes will clean up, too.

Bullying has gone too far this century... I have seen students being harassed in my school and teachers just walk on by. I am a victim of social bullying, and I think it needs to be stopped. Bullying is a crime, and I go home every night crying and have even thought of transerring schools!

bullies need help, mabey even more then the person they are picking on because really deep down the bully is just bulling people because theres something that they are trying to hide with being th big tough person in school.the one every one follows and listens to,so he/she can hide their problems or emotions that they have.SO IF YOU ARE BEING BULLIED TRY TALKING TO HIM/HER ALONE WITHOUT HER LITTLE GROUP AND ASK THEM WHAT IS WRONG OR IF YOU CAN HELP THEM WITH THEIR PROBLEMS THEN IF THAT DOESN'T WORK TELL A TEACHER AND MABEY THAT WILL RESOLVE THE PROBLEM AND IF NOT THEN JUST KEEP TALKING TO THE BULLY ALONE UNTIL THEY TELL YOU WHATS WRONG.

I don't know how there honestly could be a way of "preventing" bullying. You just need to see what is behind the scenes. Most mean people are either abused, live in a bad home, or live in a bad environment. There is a bully at my school who is a bully because he was picked on before and once everybody stopped...he didn't. Sometimes we are the ones creating a bully and everybody needs to realize that. A bully is never a bully because it is fun, there is always something more and parents and teachers can make it better by not yelling, but by talking out the problem.

i have been bullied before and it was not fun. I went through a lot the person that bullied me i have never had problems with before. At our school we have a no tolerance rule for bullying. That is why i love my school because our school doesnt not lke people bullying.

One way it can be stopped is by not letting it affect you. Although that can be very difficult, it is one way to not let the bully or bullies feel the satisfaction of degrading you. Another way could be by telling an adult that you know will step in and do something about it. Telling an irresponsible adult won't solve your problem, tell an adult you can always rely on to stand up for you.

I know what it feels like to be bullied. It's a feeling that no one should have to feel. I believe that bullying can be stopped if those administrations actually created punishments that will teach bullies a lesson on why they shouldn't be doing what they are choosing to do.

I think maybe if the bully was treated the same way they treat the victims to see how it feels to be on the other side.

Bullying can't be entirely stopped, but it can be slowed down. Most kids bully because they're jealous or upset with themselves, or they just get enjoyment out of it. If there were more programs in school about how to help bulliers or bully victims, it could help.

There is no way to stop bullying unless the schools are willing to do something about it. If you tell a teacher that you are being harassed they will most likely tell the offending child to stop and that's about it. The worst that could happen to them is detention.

  173. Brandon

Bullying can not be stopped, no matter what you do. The only thing you can do is avoid the situation, but you can never fully stop it. Telling an adult about the problem gives you the risk of the bully getting even angrier, and not telling causes them to continue to bully you. The best thing to do, in any situation is to ignore it or tell the bully to simply stop.

Bullying is absolutely ridiculous! Half the time the person is jealous of the person they are bullying or, they are just trying to make them feel better. Most bullies bully people because they have problems at home with there families or something else in there life that's hurts them, so they take it out on people that sometimes have it better off.

  184. Tiffani

Most bullying really comes from that person's insecurities, and the way they are trying to fit in. But this type of bullying is just gone way too far. Some kids (or teens) don't know the right strategies of how to deal with their emotions-like in this case it was jealousy- so they express it way differently. Phoebe was in pain. But there are ways of getting help. If she had tried them, she seemed to have been very "un-successful". There are many ways of getting rid of this problem, but somehow it always seems to hit someone too hard.

Some people bully others for the fun of it, but they don't realize how that hurts some kids to the point of, suicide. And it takes someone to commit suicide for the teachers to finally be aware of the situation.. I have seen teachers witness bullying and still do nothing about it, And i have seen parents come to complain about it, but usually nobody does anything to prevent it. When i see students in my school watching a kid getting bullied they laugh along because, like most they don't want to hurt their reputation and thats all they worry about... What they don't realize is how far are they going to take it till it comes to that point where, the person that is being bullied is trying to hurt themselves..?

    April 1, 2010 at 2:22 am |
  187. Lola

To prevent bullying, many would say to stand up for yourself. Well if you think about it if they are getting bullied , and they try to stand up for themselves how would they do so if they are being bullied in the first place, and let's say they do try to stand up for themselves; The bully will most likely try to fight the person. Or that would just cause them to get bullied further. So they only logical way to get rid of a bully is to try to ignore them or just notify a teacher or administrator because whatever happens its not going to be pretty..

It's really important for a teacher to be informed. In order to do that, a teacher needs to have some kind of angel spies in his or her own classroom. Their duty is to tell the teacher what's happening in their classroom.

Sadly i don't believe bullying can be stopped all together. It is such a massive problem and it would make the world so much better if it stopped. Bullying is an international problem the only way you could possibly stop it is with brute force, not showing a good example. If bullying was targeted as a main problem in specific schools it could slow or maybe even stop altogether. To stop bullying you would need to target school by school, workplace by workplace, and every other place that bullying occurs.

The method to stop bullying is really simple. Just focus on your life in school and don't show others that you are weak about something. Be strong and hard to you and think that there is only YOU that can stop others bullying you. Be proud of yourself so you won't get so small and nervous about your life.

If you think about bullying really hard you will realize that it happens alot all over the world and as much as people want it to stop, it keeps going on and thats not right!! We can all help a little by being nice to everyone and hopefully the bullys will catch on and be nice too. If you are being bullied tell someone so it doesnt get so far as to suicide.. and if its getting to a serious point where you are thinking about it tell someone you trust and they will help you so you can be happy and safe and alive.

The only way to stop bullying is to get the bullies out of the school. The schools responsibilty is to provide a substantial and safe education to prepare us for our future. Obviously, that school in Massuchusets (excuse my spelling and grammar please) was not doing their job. The faculty there should all be eliminated, and the school needs to press charges against the bullies. In every school, bullies should be expelled, and face charges. Personally, i believe that by expelled, they should be sent to a technical school. maybe they can get the help they need there.

Bullying is something that I am not sure ever can completely be stopped. Everyone bullies someone once in there life, either it is knowingly or unintentional. I think that we can easily decrease the rate at which kids get bullied and also the amount and effect it has on the kids. As teenagers we always judge one another, we may not like to but we do none the less. If we stopped focusing on others and pointing out their flaws and making it known to the world then they would not be getting bullied and then you would not have the horrible feeling after you know you hurt someone else. By being a bully you do get known, or make yourself look better then another but really you make yourself look like a anger problem kid that everyone is afraid of. And who wants that? So just stop that and we can change it completely.

I feel like more punishment should be enforced right from the start. If a teacher or student tells a bully to stop, it isn't going to stop them. Bullying is not by any means ok, nor should it be cast aside because it is such a big problem today.

No one deserves to be bullied, but what's even worse is when no one steps in to help the person being bullied. That's just as bad as the bullying itself. When someone is bullied it destroys a person's self esteem and their desire to come to school or try to make friends. It can completely ruin a person's social life and happiness

It makes me sick to see people being bullied. I admit I have done the same, but it was only in fun. Though that's no excuse. If people were to stop bullying, then there would probably be no war to exist. I agree with everyone else. I think that the biggest part in stopping bullying is the other students that are seeing it going on and letting it occur. When you see someone that is being bullied you should let someone know. Society has made it seem like telling is a bad thing, but you must overcome that, and think of how it could help a student.

I think that the only extremely effective way to stop bullying is if student's peers acknowledge it. Bullies might not necessarily react to intervetion by adults or punishments, but if their peers stand up to them and tell them to cut it out, I think it would effect them more and make them stop bullying so others will actually talk to them.

bullying is wrong. just because someone looks different, acts different, or does things differently doesn't mean they should be bullied because of it. bullying is a serious issue in ALL schools and it needs to end. and when you tell teachers, it doesn't get better, it gets worse. then they believe your scared, and then you'll be bullied even more. thats why students don't tell teachers that kind of things. there needs to be a safer way to ends bullying permently.

The fact is most bullying will never end. But what we can do is report any incident that catches your attention as harassment/bullying. I am so glad that the police have charged the students involved in the bullying of Phoebe Prince, that has caused her suicide. Kids need to think about what they say, before they say it. Next time you think about insulting someone, consider the consequences of someone being offended, and what could possibly happen.

In my opinion, bullying will always happen. Some places have it worse than others, but I think there are ways to tone it down and not make it a huge problem. Standing up for someone you see being bullied is always good. Maybe if you stand up for someone once the bully won't bother them anymore. Also telling an adult that your close with and know will help you solve the problem is a good idea too.

I think that bullying is something that must be stopped. It's not funny. But you don't only need to be a friend to the people being bullied, but the bullies themselves. The reason they bully is because they don't feel good about themselves. If you make the feel good about themselves, they won't bully.

This is awful. Our school system is crumbling, because some immature children are taunting others. Well, simple solution is that really there is none. Educators can only stop what is physically said, and even then the comment needs to contain hateful words. I believe that the problem here is that America has strayed from the church, where children are learning morals. Without that time in church, where are the children learning morals? They are not. The structures of society are failing, and there is nothing that can be done.

I think that the story is very sad, and that someone should have stood up for her, she had just moved there and she needed friends. Now her parents have moved back where they were origanally and now they don't have a child to go home with. BULLYING IS HORRIBLE!

Bullying is not a joke no matter how you look at it. If you see someone being bullied the best thing you can do is stand up for them, tell a trusted adult, and stand by them because if they feel supported they won't feel like they need to kill themselves.

Bullying it has become a serious issue in the united states, we have tryed stoping it many times before but have we stoped it no. We need to take this matter in to are hands more seriously but if bullying will stop then that is a miracle in what i think because if you can stop the kid from bullying thats one down and many more to go

Instead of trying to convince people to stop bulling "cause thats never going to happen" maybe try to convince students that "committing suicide cause you were bullied in not right" start some self esteem classes?

if your getting bullied, i would ask multiple times to stop. If that wouldn't work, I would inform somebody about it. If the person who was bullying was still bullying, I would defend myself. But thats just me.

Bullying happens too much in this world! Pheobe shouldn't have had to commit suicide because some girl got jealous about the boy she was dating and started to bully her! She got TOO upset and killed herself!! Yes we all witness bullying but we shouldn't be forced to death!! Do you agree?

People bully because they're having some problems with their family or friends. I feel that the school district should stop bullying by telling the principals and the teachers to paddle the students.

People bully for a reason. The reason is because they cannot get along with others, and the teachers should tell them to stop. The principal should put security cameras around the school to watch the students.

I feel sorry for the girl. I am just ashamed that our generation thinks that bullying makes them tougher, which it doesn't!! Why do we even bully other kids? Suicide is the eighth leading cause of death in the United States. Why? Bullying probably has something to do with that cause...Pretty soon, a bully is going to get what is coming to them. Parents need to get involved. Not only parents, but kids need to get involved. Kids can help save lives by just being kind to those who are being bullied. Our generation is becoming the worst we can be when it comes to bullying.

  247. Josh and Chandler

So Tyler, you think that it was over reacting, well you are sooooooo wrong! She had a reason to commit suicide, and I know she shouldn't have, but she wanted to get away from those bullies. She wasn't over-reacting, she was hurt and she felt like she was nothing, and that nothing good was awaiting her. You're right, someone should have done something, but who would have done so, no one knew about what was happening to her. How could she be over-reacting, every single day at school bullies were probably abusing her verbally, but they could have been abusing her physically. How are you going to feel when someone always is hurting you and you feel like you can't tell anyone because you don't want to be a tattle tail, or you don't want to be a wimp. She had just moved to a new place, now that was probably hard enough, leaving all of her friends and fellow people, but now to add to the stress and the sorrow, she has people bullying her and treating her like she's hurt, she wasn't over-reacting, the bullies were over-reacting on how they were treating her, and now they are in jail, and they deserve it. Now to prove you even more wrong have you ever been bullied before? I know I have and I have felt so sad inside and questions of if I was really likeable or if I was ugle, stuff like that, now if you put you in that situation how would you feel if this was happening to you, would you feel like commiting suicide. Plus, to add to this dreadful, bully tale, 19% of Australian adults, out of 3,000, have reported to being bullied, either physicaly or verbaly. How do like that? Now I have been bullied before, even recently, when I had started school... There was this ninth grader, and he liked to push me around (literally) and call me dum names. One day my sister saw him walking over to me and she walked over and yelled at him, and he hasn't said a thing rude to me since, and you know what, we are even friends. Now that was all possible (me and the bully being friends) because someone stood up for me, a true friend. Now that is why you are wrong.

hey carl u know bullying is wrong but my view is people bully others because they are insicure, witch causes them to be mean and hurt people in all ways. if bullying is seen it should be reported to an adult but dont jast tell one tell alot of adults. my teacher...allways tells us kepp telling people untill the problem is resolved

I think that bullying could be stopped in many ways. First, it would just be easier for everyone if nobody bullied in the first place. I think that the people that bully should put themselves in the people that that bully's shoes... then maybe they will realize what it feels like, and stop.
I also think that maybe the consequences for the bully should be a little bit higher (instead of the teacher just giving them a warning, the bully should be sent straight down to the principle's office). All in all though, you should always follow the golden rule: "Treat others the way you want to be treated."

    April 1, 2010 at 2:31 pm |
  251. Darby

Seeing as the adults are not taking charge, that shifts the responsibility to us kids. First, if you are the bully, you need to knock it off. Why? Because it is wrong, and you are sinning when you bully. Because people will genuinely begin to hate you. Because people will think you are an idiot. How? you may ask. Well, think of all the stereotypes about bullies...big, fat, ugly, disgusting, stupid, bad hygiene, and completely devoid of any strength other than physical. Now do you want to be a bully? Even if you are the head cheerleader with the hottest boy in school wrapped around your finger you will still be thought of as a shallow brat that is completely hooked on beauty. You will go back to your high school reunion as a 40 year old hag that nobody will talk to because the only reason they would talk to you in school was because you were "hot", but seeing as you aren't
i gtg, but my point is that being a bully doesn't do anything for you no matter who you are.

I think that we should try harder to keep kids intact with some sort of way to express themselves. I know what it is like to have depression and almost take my own life( grandfather just passed and kids making fun of me ) but I found a different solution, FRIENDS, why do we have friends? Because we can count on them and see the true results in our own lives. if we hang out with the wrong people we can start to have bad negative emotions. But I can say when i told my friends they helped me. As a student and as a leader I can say my true FRIENDS made a difference in my life.

The way to stop bullying is to have schools take more action when it happens. KIds get bullyed all the time at my school but all the principal does is give them a warning, then the next time-warning agian. That happens and the kids never get in trouble so that's why bullys do it. They know that nothing is going to happen.

I think the student should tell a teacher or someone they trust. But suicide was alittle overreacting. Someone should have done something.

Nobody should be bullied. I was bullied, so I told the assistant principle, and it worked like a charm! Suicide was un-necessary, and illogical. The problem should be treated quickly, before the bully realizes they can pick on you. If they can be a bully, so can you, but some just need to stand up for themselves, whether it is your parents, their parents, or anyone in authority. Nobody DESERVES to be bullied except for bullies.

I don't think that ANY student should be bullied. My friend was bullied by one of my other friends, and since I was friends to both of them, I was caught in the middle. It was horrible becuase I had to listen to Taylor (the one bullying) be rude and send death threats to my friend(whom I will call Jim). It was finnaly resolved today(thursday) when Jim told the assisitant principal. I think that's what everyone who is being bullied should do. They should tell trusted adults who will do something.

The main problem with bullying is that the kid who is getting bullied doesn't tell anyone. The person who's getting bullied rather take their own life insted of being called a tattle tail. Also people should stick up for kids who are being bullied. We all need to help each other.

Bullying is just something that people whose self-esteem is not the greatest and to make themselves feel better they bully other kids that they think are weaker then they are. If someone is being bullied they should go to a principal and keep going to higher school admistators until the bullying stops. Nothing is worth bullying.

Bullying is just I way for kids to make themselves look better by making you look bad and bullying is very common now in schools. Kids that are getting bullied need to find a friend that will help them stick up for themselves and his/her friends. If a kid is being physically bullied they should find a teacher that would do something about the harassment. Bullying is a bad thing but i'm afraid that it will never finally come to an end.

there are a lot of people at my school that are being bullied. Most of the time they do not tell anyone so it remains a secret. Sometimes I stick up for them, and then all of a sudden BOOM they start being all mean and rude to me. Our world is full of mean people and the government should be teaching people to stand up for themselves, instead of passing laws that may not work.

I REALLY don't like bullying and if I ever see it I try to stand up for the person and help them out, or go and tell the closest teacher. I can't see why anybody would do something as horrible as bullying, because to tease this girl enough so she commits suicide is horrible. If I saw someone doing that to somebody else I would tell someone. Because it just isn't fair, I don't care if I would be called a tattle tale at least I did the right thing.

Many students don't tell anyone if they are witnessing someone being bullied because they don't want to be the next target. I think that students who tell should be anonymous. Also, every school must have rules so a teacher will tell no matter what.

when you are being bullied your supposed to go to a teacher or an adult. It doesn`t always work just like in febie`s case. The teacher`s did nothing about it until after she killed herself. You need to stick-up for a person being bullied yourself. Even if you don`t confront the bullies you can just be the victims friend. Either way our helping. Telling an adult that doesn`t listen, you might as well be the bully.

I thought it was interesting that the reaction to this has caused lawmakers to start making legislation about this. Can you make a law against bullying? Our school tries to have a positive atmosphere but bullying still happens; kids find ways to do it so that the adults won't see. I don't think new laws would help. The teachers need to pay attention and stop it when they hear it happening.

You know what? There's nothing you can do at my school to stop bullying. I have been bullied at my school almost everyday since I moved there in the 4th grade- because I have straight A's. I am in 7th grade now, and even though I have reported it over 100 times, my mom calling the school countless times and even having an assembly on bullying a few times, THE BULLYING NEVER STOPPED. The teachers don't care about you. They don't care about your safety. They care about YOUR MONEY. If your parents just pay the school and they get their salary, they'll just sit back and watch you suffer. And if they are trying, they're doing a pathetic job.

Sorry for ranting on your site Carl, but i just want people to know.

I saw the report about the teen girl that committed suicide because of bullying, and the truth is that many teens are going through problems at school as far as bullying. This bullying needs to stop, and no matter the situation, if you see someone that is being bullied, be the bigger person and stick up for them. This is very sad that due to the technology advances, more forms of bullying have come up. In my opinion, this has gotton out of hand.

i think that if you ever saw someone else or even yourself get bullied, tell a parent or any adult tht you trust that should help you. I think that it's stupid that most students in school or not that see someone else getting bullied, they dont ell anyone. no one should be getting bullied period. some of the kids that bully others dont even get in trouble for doing what is wrong. i think there shouldnt be any bullied, even on or off school grounds. Also, half of the kids that do bully others dont even confess when they get in trouble. i think that the only reason why some students think that they can bully someone and then get away with it, should think twise before they even think about hurting someone. Lastly, half of the kids that get bullied and then thretened by the bully, think that they shouldnt tell an adult because then the bully might come around the corner and bully that same person and then still get away with it. 🙁

    April 2, 2010 at 2:28 pm |
  304. Cora

i think that the way the bullies hurt others can lead to serious ingeries. if you ever see someone else being bullied, go tell a teacher or any adult that is the closest to you. dont ever let anyone bully you for any reason at all. dont let anyone threaten you for any reason at all. if you stand up for someone, it might feel good because you're being a good friend to that person! 🙂 even if you dont like that person that's getting bullied, still help them because if you help someone else than maybe someday they will help you and it WILL mean ALOT to that person that you HELPED! 🙂

I think if somebody is bullying you with words than you should be able to get it out of your head. Think about your positives when somebody constantly points out the negatives.

When someone bullies you it is mainly because the bully is ignored and unloved at home. If you bring the parents into better light of what their child is doing in their life, who they are friends with, etc, and the parent shows that they care, then the problem could be solved. It only takes a little TLC.

If I saw somebody getting bullied, I would sitck up for them then tell a teacher. Sure I would be 'snitching', but it's the right thing to do. Nobody deserves to be bullied. It's not 'just another part of school'.

Its not right if a person isbeing bullied and we can't do anything to help. If we try to help we get in trouble. So, to avoid getting in trouble but helping out we need to act fast and tell an adult or talk to the bully. Thanks.

Some people don't like being called a snitch or a "tatle-tale" so they keep quiet, if your one of those type of people my advice is to ignore them first and if they don't stop fight back. I was bullied a year before, for absolutely no reason! Well, not physical attacks, but their words hurt me anyway. My best friend had abandoned me when people started to bully me(although she apologized to me later), and her best friend, really hated me.
I didn't want to go to school, because the fun in it was gone, like it had turned from a rose petal to spikes all pointing my way. Even people at other classes heard about me. It was like I was a dangerous criminal or some radioactive schmuck. I got fed up with it.
I told my homeroom teacher and my parents about it, but that increased the vocabulary the bullies were using to me: tattertale.
When we moved away, I was overjoyed, but the harm was done. I am afraid to go where people are, in large groups, especially my age groups. Luckly, I've made some good friends here, but I'm kinda ashamed of turning away because it was too much, rather than facing it. I know bulling is a bad thing, right next to murder, I bet, but what can we do about it?

Bullying is a big problem in all schools. My school has set up anonymous bullying slips to report bullying. We also have assemblies to encourage kids to report bullying. A lot of kids have found it helpful and the bullies are punished with a 3 hour class after school.

I think that bullies bully just because they have family trouble and they want others to suffer. But if you see bullying either stand up for the victim or just simply tell an adult.

I think if someone is getting bullied someone should tell an adult or teacher not just let people get bullied and we should stick up for ourselves and others and most of the reason why there is bullying is because bully's are jealous of others.

If you witness someone else getting bullied, you should stick up for the target. Imagine yourself in the target's shoes and imagine how it would feel. If you are the target of the bully, you should imediately stand up for yourself. If that doesn't work then go to a trusted adult. It's just not right.

Some reasons that cause bullying are maybe something is going wrong at home or maybe the person just lost a loved one.So maybe we can set up a program to help stop bullying by helping them with their problems. And maybe in the future we will now why people bully and try to put a stop to it. THATS JUST A KIDS POINT OF VIEW!!!!

Bullying is such a ridiculous act, I don't understand why people have to go to the extreme of picking on other people. Just because you're not happy with your life doesn't mean that you have to make someone else's life miserable! The sad part is, sometimes it's not even about 'looking cool' personally i've witnessed someone being bullied out of pure jealousy, and all over a boy. It's silly.

I think bullying is just plain wrong. Those students should feel very bad for what they made that poor girl do. Believe it or not bullying can change a person's life. So next time think twice before you bully someone because it could lead to death.

People are bullys because they want to feel better about themselfs, so they pick on people. If you don't tell someone if you have been bullyed or if you have seen bullying you are making a big mistake, because when you tell someone they can help you.

Many people think bullying is way to think they are tough, strong or however they believe in so. The people who bully are the one's that think they are really cool. However, you still have to stand up for yourself if you are getting bullied.

Bullying is everywhere, and people cannot stop it. One of the reason's why people cannot stop bullying, is because all the people that actually witnessed it do not want to get evolved in the situation. I personally think it's not a good idea to complain if you witness bullying, because it can cause to more trouble. For right now, there is no way you can stop bullying!

I remember all the bullying I went through during middle school, and it was really frightening to me. I got shoved into my locker once and had it shut on me. I could hear everyone laughing outside. I luckily am able to handle situations like that well because I still had a shred of self respect which I held onto like a life line all through elementary and middle school. Amazingly, I find there is less bullying at my high school, or it might be that it was just a fresh start in a new place. I know how fast one looses respect for themselves when they are bullied. The ironic thing is that normally the bully is the one who really has a problem. I think that teacher tend to turn the other way, even though I feel like they always knew it was happening. I think teachers and administrators should pay more attention, care a little more. Efforts should be made to help kids deal with ugly situations in their homes. Have a place to go when abusive parents are drunk. People tend to have more respect when others respect them. War works the same way. We should look at the little things in order to solve the world's greatest problems.

if i witnessed bullying, i would tell someone about it. people shouldn't have to be bullied, though. my question is: why do people bully others? in my opinion, if someone wants to hurt someone, they should go see a doctor and counsler. i know that people have their problems, but why do they have to bully them? but i think that to stop people from being billies, when or if you see someone being bullied, stand up for them. i think that most people that become bullies were bullied by someone else. and sometimes people become bullies because they are having a "little fun" or "acting cool" around their friends. I really think bullying should be stopped, stand up for someone, tell someone and maybe bullying will become illegal, it could happen!

i'm a chinese student and i was a little suprised to know this kind of situation also happens in U.S.A. this phenomenon becomes more serious to watch.
i have 2 questions about this:

2, when we students witness bullying, what should we do about this? stand up ? or stand by for safety sake?

The way to stop bullying is to create an environment were abused students believe that teachers and administrators care and are serious about doing something about the problem. There should be "a box" located at the office or other convenient location where abused students can drop a note in to notify the school about the problem. The administrator cannot reveal to the bully how their name was obtained. The bully would only guess that the behavior was observed maybe.. or other students told.. – this is most effective. then there must be follow-up with the bully and bullied to determine if the behavior has changed.
I place most of the blame on the administration/teachers who look the other way... don't want to get involved.... If the abused student is bullied enough, they will fight back...often times obtaining a weapon or they introvert which can lead to self-destruction.
Many students are sexually harrassed/abused verbally by others – the hearing of profanity is abusive. There should be student education on examples of sexual harrassment which are illegal and not tolerated – as is the case with employers and employees. The seriousness of the crime/abuse is better understood.

My experience is that the reason for bullying seems to be a shortcoming social education. You get social abilities in conversation or contact with parents or other authorities. The problem is obvious: it's TV and other media like the internet. If the parents took care of their children there would be much less bullying in the educational system!!!

I am against bullying and think bullies don't like themselves and look to bolster their image to themselves and others buy victimizing peers. Character education programs and classes are a way to help prevent some of this behavior.

I'm hating some of the answers that people are putting up. Many answers sound like they came off of that "Stop Bullying" poster. Everyone, and I mean everyone, knows that those don't work. "tell the teacher, tell an adult, step up, be brave" The only one of those that has a chance of working is the step up thing but that will most likely end in physical conflict. The one and only way to stop bullying is to make it 'Uncool". The people bullying consider themselves the cool crowd because they have people who back them up. Remember I'm still watching, and I'm still looking for good answers.

....... i have been bullied in elementary school and i think that no one deserves to be kicked around bullying should be stopped by having cameras in every inch of the school's hall ways then u will be able to stop them........ (the bullies) 🙂

In my opinion theirs not a lot of ways to stop it. For me it never stopped. My bullying has gotten smaller but it is still here. The best thing i can say to do is keep your head held high, and dont listen to them. If someone would have told me this earlier i wouldn't be where i am today. So if u want it to stop play along with them and joke about it and pretend it doesn't bother you anymore. But if it continues see if u can change classes or something or just try to stay away from them these kind of helped for me but they might help for you.

I think the best way to end bullying is by ignoring the bullier. After a while, they will see that you don't care what they are saying and they will eventually leave you alone. If they are physically abusing you, you shold tell a trusted adult. There is no reason to tollerate abuse.

    April 5, 2010 at 1:46 pm |

everyones says just act like it doesnt bother you, but it doesnt help. who ever is bullying you will find something else to pick on you about i think the best thing to do is show them that you sont stand for it and find away to show them off but not hurt them phisicaly

    April 5, 2010 at 1:47 pm |
  371. Rose

Don't pick on people just because they are different. Everyone is in to different stuff. Don't pick on them because they are skinny or fat or because they can't afford brand name clothes. If you get bullied listen to your favorite songs or play video games to calm down . Don't pick on them because they are new to the area.

Our class thinks you should not be scared of bullies. We think you should stop and talk to bullies. Ask them why do you want to hurt me? Our class also thinks bullies should be punished with suspension and some of us think it should be against the law. We think it is important to teach kids at a young age how to stand up for themselves. Karate for middle school and high schoolers would help build confidence.

One way to stop this would be for the youth to finally step up and let the people communicating the threats know that it has to stop here and now. We are the youth of tomorrow our decision today will mean a lot in the future. By stepping up and letting them now that we will not take this kind of abuse anymore is the best solution.

  375. Elijah

Kids will always find something to pick on. Someone will always pick on other kids, and I think we've all picked on somebody. I know I have. We probably shouldn't point the finger because most of us have bullied, too. We need to watch ourselves and make sure we're not the bully in the situation; you never know what your classmate could be going through. They could be contemplating suicide, and you could be part of the reason for that.

    April 5, 2010 at 1:50 pm |
  376. Michael

If you see someone being bullied and don't help them then it is as though you yourself are doing the bullying. We all know that telling the teachers doesn't do much except make it worse, but you still have to help them so get together and stand up to the bullies. Help yourselves don't expect others to do it for you.

Bullying is not necessary in no circumstance. People should be able to handle their problems without physically, mentally, or emotionally bullying someone. It is getting out of hand, and something can be done about it if we all just get together and make a way to solve these problems. Bullying is so crazy that it can take someone's life!!! STOP THE BULLYING, AND LET GOD!!!

Bullying is completely unfair. If you're getting bullied tell your friends, and you parents. The bigger support system you have the faster its going to stop. Unless it gets to the point that you cant complete your normal routine every day, you don't need to tell an administrator. They already have enough problems and by telling someone of high ranking- that can make the situation worse.

Students or other victims of bullying should try to stand up for themselves or get a teacher and some of their friends to help them drive the bully away. They need stand up for themselves and learn how to work with others to stop bullying. They don't have to take to stand there and take it.

Bullying may be a problem but what's worse is that the victim doesn't do anything about it. It's almost like they want to get bullied. I got cyber-bullied several times and reported it to the teachers but so far nobody caught the culprit.

It's sad that something like this continues to be a problem both in and outside of school. There really isn't one simple solution to fix it. It spreads like a disease, but there's no common cure. Kids who are bullied are seen as "different." Duh, we're all different. It's what makes us human. Kids who are bullied often don't tell on the bully because they're afraid the bully will find out and bully them more. As for the bullies, they usually have serious issues, such as their parents being involved in drugs, or a bad home life. They're usually just as insecure about themselves as the kids they bully. As for fixing the problem, I have a suggestion for the schools.
    1. If a child tells you they're being bullied, don't tell them to try to talk to the bully. As a witness and a victim of bullying, I can tell you that trying to confront the bully doesn't work, and can make you more vulnerable.
    2. Talk to the bully yourself, or get the principal to. The job of a school, in addition to providing kids with an education and skills for life, is to protect your students, whether it be from outside danger or themselves.
    3. Try to figure out why the bully is bullying. Don't immediately start telling them it's wrong and how they shouldn't bully. They usually already know that. Ask them what's wrong. Maybe it was a one time thing, like they had a bad day and needed to vent. Or maybe it's a recurring problem that needs some attention. Whatever the case, don't start scolding the bully.
    4. Talk to the bully's parents or guardians. Sometimes they know and just don't care, other times they didn't know and want to help.
    5. If the bullying isn't just a one time thing, and the kid won't really open up, consider bringing in a therapist to help the bully, because if a kid is bullying, they need help.

bullying in it self is not stopable. adults can not be everywere and a bully will always find a way to torment the lessers to them. you can shove down there throats what it right and what is wrong but the minet you turn your back they will just start up. i think this is just a usless attempt to an unsavabl problem. take it from somone who has litarly got crazy from it

the only reason there bullies because of whats in their life my mom once told me bullies are people that their parents are in a divorce, lifes are horrible, or have been bullied. They bully other kids to feel better and heal them selves. BULLIES IF YOU NEED HELP DON'T BULLY OTHER KIDS TO FEEL BETTER THERE ARE OTHER WAYS TO FEEL BETTER TALK TO A TEACHER(there here for everyone)GO TO A CONSULER OR A FRIEND YOU REALLY TRUST.

I've heard people say that people need to not let things go to heart and not let things hurt them. They think it is the responsibility of the people being bullied to deal with it. They think the world should change so they don't have to. But in reality, they are the problem and they need to change and stop bullying.

No but if we do some bullying at our school some kids just stop and laugh and some kids try to break up the fight. We should always help our friends or feinds it doesn't matter its your time to shine.

yes. A lot by the playground we live by. But I am afraid to help them because I am 8 and I don't want to get bullied too. I don't even know them but my dad calls the police on them.

Yes. A lot at my school. Me and my friends have to break up fights. Even if its a friend or a fiend. A bully is a person who got bullied. Friendship is way stronger then beating someone up or a animal. Every one is underneath the friendship skies. Bullying is not the answer.

I believe that you should stand up for someone who is being picked on. Bullying can't be stopped though. There are many ways a bully can get to their prey. Internet, school, follow them home, call, what else you can think of. Bullying isn't right, but it can't be 100% stopped.

I think that bullying needs to stop because every one deserves to come to school and be safe... well if it is bad enough that you have to kill yourself. something has to take charge and change this. maybe have worse consequences for people that bully others. it's just not right. make a change tell a teacher if you see bullying.

Bullying at my school mostly happens on the bus. The busdriver never pays any attention to kids who sit in the back of the bus, so that gives high schoolers an advantage. They actually punch eachother and call eachother unappropiate names. It got so bad that our principal had to ride our bus in the back to watch over them.

It can be stopped by everyone getting along with each other and communicating if they have a problem. If some have trouble they should talk to a teacher, parent/guardian, or guidance counselor. Sometimes the problem is at home, and then the student should talk to a guidance counselor immediately, and hopefully work something out.

When I was bullied I told my teachers and they talked to the bullies. For a while, the bullies stopped but then they started again. This cycle went on for a long time: I got bullied and told the teacher. Bullies stop for a while then they start again. No matter what I did, they did not stop. After a while even going to school became a pain for me. So, personally I do not think there is anyway we can stop this whole bullying problem. There is no way to fix this.

Altough bullying isn't the right thing to do, students at schools continue to do it. Usually, the only reason they're doing this is because they want to feel good about themselves and want to make someone else's life miserable. At my school there are kids who get bullied and we are trying to stop it. Instead of bullying someone, how about trying to stop bullying itself. It will help kids who have been bullied and other kids so they don't GET bullied.

I think that the only way to get even close to a solution is to make more people aware of what is happening. People know that others are being made fun of, most just think it's a joke though. Students don't really think about what the person being bullied feels. The students just need to consider others, and the consequences. I believe that there needs to be more punishment enforced, when it comes to bullying.

Bullying sadly will never stop. I have witnessed bullying and experience it, nobody likes it but we can't change people and how immaturely they act. I don't understand why they always do it but I believe it impowers them so they keep doing it to feel that goodness just like drugs. A class about it doesn't mean anything it just explains what you do to kids when you do it and probably gives them new ideas on how to do it! I believe nothing can be done, they will go on and on until someone else shows them how it feels but then they turn into a bully too, it's just one big chain reaction that we can't fix like the circle of life.

Bullying has always been a problem of mine, I've been made fun of because of my teeth, hair, smarts, lack of popularity, and many other things. Bullying can make a person get to the point were they don't want to live anymore, we have seen that, and I have personally felt that feeling. At my new school, bullying is not tolerated, and punished if reported or witnessed. I try to help our middle school kids and elementry kids to stop and think before they start to "make fun" at someone or bully them....... It's a hard thing to do, but it feels great once you know you prevented that or helped someone out from bullying.

I've been bullied and I've seen people being bullied its not fun and its not something worth doing. people sometimes kill themselves because of what people said to them. I think that no one should bully anyone for many of reasons. If you see anyone get bullyed then the best choice that you would have is to tell a teacher or another adult that is around and don't tell anyone that you told somebody so that you are not the next one to get bulled.Being a bully is not the best thing to do because you will be the one getting in trouble if some sees or tells on you for bulling someone.Being a bully is not worth getting in trouble for.I think that people shouldn't bully others because if you don't want to get bullied then you shouldn't bully anyone.

I think schools should take a step forward and try to make a stop to bullying i feel kids need to feel safe at there schools and that cant happen with bullies even if you think you are a "tattle tale" for saying that someone was bullying someone i think that your more a hero than you are a tattle tale it means you are friendly and dont want people to be harmed and you should feel that way and you should want to report that because it could make your schools more safe and people can feel safe and feel that they can talk and open up so you arent a tattle tale for saying someones bullying another person in my world you are a hero

When my old teacher was at my school, he used to say that there was a lot of bullying going around. He said that there was different types of bulling. For example, boys tend to be more aggressive, while girls tend to be more personal. Either way, pain strikes.

There is no way that you can stop it. Kids will find a way no matter what to push people around. It doesn't matter who you are, people have bullied you. Everyone gets bullied. One way you can stop it is by not being around anyone at all... Kids are cruel, and all they are going to do is make fun of people that they don't like, or just people that they don't know.

I have been bullied before, but it was just a form of people leaving me out and ignoring me. Bullying hurt me so I can't imagine what that girl went thru. It is just horrible to see people get picked on for their race, age, gender, and etc. I feel that bullying can be stopped. Even though sometimes people feel as if they can't stop it or they are to afraid they will get picked on, the onlookers should always tell an adult if there is a fight near. Whether the victims is getting a minor case of someone bullying them or the biggest case of someone bullying them, the onlookers should always tell. Even if they are suspicious......... they always need to watch out for others.

I think no one deserves to be bullied or has the right to bully. It can emotionally scar someone for years of their life.Teachers need to crack down on bulling and show students it is a serious matter.I think it is a sham that someone had to die for that school to realize that they have to stop those girls that bullied the victim who is no longer with us.Go Morecraftains!

Bullying is not ok. Freinds should stick up for each other. Bullying lowers self-estem and can lead to suicide. People say things about the smallest flaw about a person and talk like it's bad to be less perfect then they are.

Just be there. If you believe that bullying is wrong, then you fight to show it! I've had a unique experience with bullying, and just one person being strong and immovable in his or her path and always standing up for what they believe or others in need of aid can, indeed, make THE difference. And I would know–trust me.

I have witnessed bullying many times and I don't think it's okay. I think there should be a bully-free group to find bullies in schools and tell the principal to get them to admit what they did was wrong. They should have to write a letter of apology or they should be suspended.

I think the teachers are at fault. It seems whenever someone bullies someone else, the teachers are focused on something else. But the second you do anything to defend yourself or a friend, the teachers are focused on you. If the teachers where not so interested in the same salad they bring every day, there would not be as much bullying.

There are not many ways that it can be stopped but you just need to ignore the bully. Bullies do mean things to people to get reactions out of them. If you don't show a reaction...they probably won't bother you as much.

I think it's there is absoulutely no reason to bully on someone! Everyone should be treated equally and fairly. Being bullied only solves problems of those who choose to do it! No one knows what goes on behind closed doors, and how people's everyday lives could be affected! So, before you bully, THINK ABOUT IT!

Here at my school we don't usually see physical bullying. There is more gossip and rumor bullying. But, those can be just as bad as physical bullying! it can make you depressed and lead you to do something suicidal or very harmful to others or to yourself. Just because somebody does something different than you, doesn't mean that they should have to be bullied for that. People should just except other people for who they are!

I think that instead of the parents complaining to the school, they should talk to the bully's parents and let them punish the bully themselves. I'm actually getting bullied myself right now but I don't think much about it as I know they are just jealous of my knowledge of a lot of things. Bully is a serious even in playing or seriousness because every type of bullying can affect someone's mood because, like in the news, that bullying could go to a high degree where the bullied person could commit suicide or do something as serious as that. I think that everyone should understand any type of bullying is kind of like permanent. You can't just say, "Oh, I was just kidding." NO! That doesn't count! Once you bully, it doesn't go away.

bullying is a terrible thing which can cause people to do irrational things. Recently we had a presentation from Miami's Police Department's own lieutenant, Joseph Schillaci who shared with us actual police situations that he had encountered on the job and later recounted on the "Firts 48." This were all caused because of bullying and many people died. Bullying is "name calling" because it hurts in the inside and is an unforgettable pain.

t's sad that something like this continues to be a problem both in and outside of school.

I see bullying as a way for stupid people to make themselfs feel better. Idiots are usally afraid of attention being drawn to them. So just tell someone.

Bullying is the most harmful thing a person can do. I mean somebody could take real efense to something a bully said. I think bullying is so common in daily lives that not many people even think about it before they do it.

bullying is not the kind of thing anyone wants to deal with in school. it makes many kids not want to go to school becauuse of other children in the school. also, sometimes kids who are getting bullied dont tell there parents is about .

  489. Lynsi

Bullying is never okay and people should get punished for it, but I honestly don’t think that there can be a way to completely stop bullying. People are mean and sometimes you can’t control what they do or say no matter how hard you try. A lot of kids pick on people for attention, so they look "cool" for picking on someone, but its not cool at all and its wrong. Schools just suspend students for physically bullying another student but that doesn’t stop the cyber-bullying. I understand that it hurts a lot of people to get bullied but it is life and sometimes you can’t always fix things that are wrong.

  490. Colby

Bullying is a very terrible thing in our kids or friends every day lives. Some ways you can stop bullying one is by interfering with the bully and who they are bullying. You can also contact an adult to step in if you don’t want to or can’t step in yourself. Bullying is a serious problem it can cause many people to get really depressed or even thoughts of suicide. Bullying is no laughing matter there will be a bully anywhere pretty much. A solution that our kids should know is that they need to know there is people to talk to such as a counselor or parent.

    April 15, 2010 at 12:06 pm |
  491. Alexis

I think that when people bully others they are just doing it because they have nothing else better to do. Most bullies are just people who have a lack of love in there lives and they are looking for attention. Schools should not tolerate bullying and there should be serious consequences for bullying. It is obviously becoming a problem. Students are committing suicide because kids would tell them that they are worthless and they don’t matter. I don’t understand why schools aren’t doing something about it.

    April 15, 2010 at 12:06 pm |
  492. Stephanie

Honestly, I believe that there's not very much you can do to stop bullying. I agree that it's a horrible thing, but no one knows exactly why kids bully each other it has always happened and it probably always will. I really don’t think that there’s any set law or way to make sure that no kids ever get bullied unfortunately it’s going to happen no matter what. I do believe however, that some of the reason kids are bullies might have something to do with the way they are raised. Maybe parents could take part in decreasing the amounts of bullies by teaching their children better morals, but there’s no way to say that it would help.

    April 15, 2010 at 12:07 pm |
  493. Denis

I think that all the bullies in all of the schools should be taught a lesson. There should be a video made that tells the bullies on how bad bullying can get because some kids commit suicide or some bullies go so far that they hurt the kids in a way that may make them have a life threatening conditions. The bullies would then see how bad it could get and they would understand the what they are doing is bad and could cause problems for the victims. They should get more consequences for their actions and not just a suspension or an after school

Bullying could be stopped if people stood up for other people. A lot of people are caught up in self image that they are scared to stand up for a kid when they see there getting bullied. It doesn't make you uncool if you say something, it makes you just as guilty if you don't.

I think that bullying is a serious action that often leads to depression and suicide. Bullying in any form should not be taken lightly. All bullying is wrong to do and we need to have rules that govern bullying. People need to stand up for their friends who are being bullied.

If everyone wouldn't bully- we wouldn't have this problem. I believe that the most bullying is done in school, and that teachers don't dicipline children enough. Any witnesses should tell the teacher immediately- especially if you are the person that got bullied. Even if you are shy, just tell the teacher that you would like to remain unnamed, but if you got bullied, don't be afraid to stand out to that bully. All bullying should be stopped, and I think that all schools should moderate bullying more and perhaps even have a meeting with the school. That should be a world standard, or at least USA standard.

I think that bullies should be in the victom's shoes some times and see how it feels. Bullying is a problem in schools. The thing is though, bullying can't be completely stopped no matter how many people try. There are things you can do to prevent it but it won't stop completely. You could try to stand up to the bully. Or you could ignore them, which I know is easier said than done. The easiest thing is to tell a teacher but no one wants to do that because they feel like a tattle-tale and then a lot of times even more people pick on them. Bullying should be stopped but I don't quite know how.

i see bullying as such a tentative term, defined only by the eye of the beholder. everyone's is different the only way to be clear of it is to not even test that fine line.

I think that some people think that bullies are only students but they can be teachers. They are the hordest ones to get to stop becouse they think they are not and they always think they have more power then they do. Why I think that is that they will make you answer a question that has nothing to do with any school work. If you just sit and say nothing they threaten to give you detention or send you to the principal’s office.

Bullying, sure every one has done it even if it was just saying something mean to a sibling but whats even worse is the bullying at school the real kind the kind that hurts and leads to death. I cant really raise my hand to say i now how you feel i was bullied to because i never was i'm a teachers kid so i was always being looked after, but i will say that i have watched people be bullied. I want to help stop it. just the other day i was in wall-mart and saw on a magazine were a girl had commited SUISIDE because here friends had bullied her to her knee's... isnt that just sad, people to need to be there to help people like that we dont need any more deaths!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

i think that we can stop Bullying by having kids stay in at resses if they are bullying. i think we can stop cyber-bullying by parents stoping and cutting down computer time or blocking bad sites that have bad pictures or that is bad for your kid to learn. also we can stop it by having a after school activite for bullying or kids that have a bullying problems.

personally, i believe that it is mostly the school and government's fault. a teacher should be able to give the child a bad enough punishment so they wont to that bad thing again!!! there are SOO many kids at my school who swear right to the teacher's face and are barely punished because all the school can do is call the parents who usually don't care!!! a teacher should be able to have the power to control kids.

    April 21, 2010 at 6:23 pm |
  535. Helen

Okay, let's face it. The only way to REALLY get bullying stopped, and fast, is to stand up for yourself. It feels good to have an adult on your side, but truthfully, it doesn't always work that way. If you learn to stand up for youself, bullies lose interest, go away, and usually don't bug you anymore.

this is very bad!!!!! if people still do this an a teacher finds out the bully should go to jail for a day and pay 10 dollars to get out the next day!!!!!!!!!!!

i think that its the governments fault because a teacher should be allowed to punish a student if a they did something bad, so they dont do it again or dont get in trouble again.i see kids who do bad stuff everyday almost and dont get in trouble and i think tht teachers should be able to PUNISH KIDS IF THEY DO SOMETHING BADDDD!!!!!

Honestly, I think bullying is just as bad as murdering someone. I have witnessed it more than once and it is not a very good thing to look at. Kids are brutally bullied by other people when they don't deserve it. In a situation like this, there's the bully, the bullied, and the bystander. So far in maybe 4 bullies I've been the bystander, and usually the bystander just watches but in 3 out of those 4 bullies I've tried really hard to stop the bullying going on. Bullying really needs to stop all around the world. The worst kind of bullying is cyber-bullying. What happened to that girl breaks my heart because she was a brand new kid who didn't deserve this at all and she killed herself for it! To be 100% honest, I have no clue how to stop bullying but it needs to be stopped soon or the bullies will become victorious and the bullied kids will become suicidal, sorry to say.

I think bullying really can't be stopped. Kids will be kids and will act really mean somethimes. I know from experience, that even if people have anti-bullying classes or if adults tell them to stop, the bullies will always find a new way to pick on people. It could be at a different place or through I.M.ing, maybe it could be through smash-books. All I know is that no matter what, bullies will come up with a new way to pick on people.

Bullying Is A Wrong Choice. The Kids That Get Bullyed Are Normally The Quiet Kids In The Front Or Back Of The Room. Their The Ones Who Get It The Most. People Think Bullying Will Make Them Cooler....When Honestly It Dosent!. Their Gonna Grow Up And Not Have A Job.....STOP Bullying Kids. Put Your Life In Theirs And Watch How They Get Picked On. There Are Geeks And Quiet People In School. Just Because Their Like That Dosent Mean You Can Just Go Off And Hit Them Or Anything. More Than Likely You Will Start Getting Bullyed Because Your Bullying Other Kids. I Think Its Time For You Too Grow Up! And Act Your Age.

In my 7th grade year I was bullied, but I went to the Vice Principal and the problem was resolved. Now my sister is in 7th grade and is experiencing the same problem; no matter how many times the bullies are punished, they do not stop. The problem is that punishments are no longer a threat for verbal bullying. If someone punches a person in the face, they would be suspended or expelled. A verbal bully will get lunch detention or at worst a days of all day detention. The administration needs to realize that verbal bullying is just as harmful is physical bullying, and rules need to be toughened so this problem stops.

I think ,also, that bullying has become a bit of a problem, but, it is a natural thing to do! I mean, if you look at what age has the most bullying in it , you will notice it is mostly the teenage boys. Well, puberty alone can make a boy get very violent. Violence is usually a part of bullying. But, with that combined with the stress of Middle/High school and any other problems can make them just crazy and so distressed that they have to let it out. Say a teenage girl just lost her sister, well, she is most likely to cry and sulk and be sad for a time, but a boy... well if you have ever seen any decent movies, you will know that they keep it all inside and pretend to be "macho" and "cool". They have to let it out sometime, right?

Another part of this is that the economy might be stressing them out to. Most people see bullies as big and strong but were always told that they had something going on. What if the bullies family was living off of 12 dollars, or nothing at all? Would you want to make someone just as sad as you? However; that is what therapy is for and it is wrong to treat other people that way. Get a session in with your school counselor, or just stop! Deal with it! And next time, don't ask weather a kid has been bullied or witnessed it, ask if they HAVE done it themselves. You will get a whole lot of shameful hands. So play on that shame! And, if you know any teenagers, you know that they are rebels, so you HAVE GOT to stop threatining to convict the kids who bully! In a way, you people( threatiners) are as bad as the bullies!

Seriously stop threatining! Our school is holding a five HOUR seminar on how bullying is wrong and how much trouble we will get in if we do! Well, stop trying to scare us into submission, because WE ARE REBELS!

I think people who bully are just jealous of what other's have and are threatened by it. So they retaliate and harass others.

I think that bullying others is really wrong because you never know what that person went through on their way to school. Do you remember what happened at Virginia Tech, just because someone talked about them they came and shot up almost everybody...swo we take the time out to THINK BEFORE WE SPEAK!!!!!!!!

Can you really stop bullying completely? I don't think it is possible. but we can help. Too many people are just standing by and WATCHING it happen. You may think "oh i will stand up for someone who is being bullied" but that is not the case! people are too scared of being teased because they helped the teased. i can admit that happened to me once, but people and teachers need to be looking out for bullies because in Phobe's school the teachers HEARD and SAW her being bullied and ignored the signs! and now she is gone so don't be the bully! or else we might have another case like Phobe's! May she rest in peace and the bullies put to justice.....

Bullies are people that desire power, a certain power that cannot occur without a victim's fear. History teaches us that there are many people who will follow this type of desire in a person. It may just seem like a harmless prank or something that you could just turn your head away, but its not. All of this eventually adds up to where its difficult to stop or difficult to continue living a daily life.
Teachers or other adults CAN help but not in the way we desire them to handle the situation. Sometimes they make it harder, perhaps they didn't fully understand, and other times they make it better.
The bully is in a state of mind that requires help. We can't do anything other than contact the parents and arrange a meeting for both parent and child to "get better".
Sometime in the near future, I hope, we wont have to grow up or live through a life with bullying.

If youre being 'bullied' grow some balls and stand up for yourself no matter what it takes... change the helpless attitude and take care of yourself. No one cares about you but you, so be the one to intimidate the 'bully'

Being bullied is a fact of life and you never know. but true charector is built by how you deal with it. and that decides who you are. Its all about the right attitude and instinct.

If we we're to fight against the bully, what next?
Day by day you would be at war with him having the bully constantly on your mind.
"Today he's going to jump me. Right after the bell rings and I walk through the halls, he'll be there waiting for me."
It's not that we need to intimidate the bully, we that are or have been bullied need assistance.
    Together, we can end bullying.

Bullying should be stopped by teacher monitoring kids at all times so they would be forced not to bully other kids.

I think bulling is bad.First, is not like the bully is better than you. Most of the time a bully is bigger than you.If the person is, there is a high chance the bully thinks he/she is better than you. That's why big kids pick on little kids.If I ever get bullied I would stick up for myself and defend. I will do that because I am a girl of my words............!!!!
