Your Thoughts: The State of the Union
As I type this, President Obama is minutes away from his State of the Union address. Telling Congress how things are going is part of the president's job, according to the Constitution. But today's post is about your opinion: What do you think is the state of the union? Vote in our Quick Poll, leave us a comment, and look for your feedback on our show!

No. I don't think the state is of the union because everyone and every state is pulling in different directions so we're not functioning right anymore.
If America is a land of opertunity than why is it that so many Americans can`t find jobs?Why is it that we send most our jobs to other countries that is why we are in debt. We need to bring jobs back to America so America can keep its name as the land of opertunity.

The current state of the union, or of anything, could always be better. It could always be better because other individuals can improve it.
We must work hard if we wish to achieve a signifigant goal
I think we need to do way more than that and where is he getting all this money from
Every day, whether it be learning to teaching, to working, is a day that we can know is well spent in fixing what is wrong with the country and imbrace what is working for us.
The sate of the union is okay my own opinion is that it could get better!!
Obama has done a little to help our country with the economy and unemployment, but i think he is more of the talk and not action. If he Does more action his approval rate will go up.
The union seems like it is the battleground for squabbling children. Obama seemed to take on the role of a teacher who needed to straighten out the quarreling in Washington.
I respect Obama's descion to start new programs, bills, etc, but before the government starts new things I think that we should fix and solve the problems that America is currently facing before we start things that could essentially make our economy worse.
I think that the current state of the union in the US is okay, but not as good as it used to or could be. This isn't Obama's fault because he was elected at an unstable time in the economy, but I still think that there is room to grow.
As I see America, from other country's point of view, It's too divided and different from state to state and parties to parties.
Of course, It is important to express various opinions. But always aware this, LISTENING another's opinion is more important than that.
well the president is doing what he can to make the economy better, and we all know that make the economy better is not a piece of cake,it may take a longer time and we should be more patient
I think the economy could be better and the unemployment % could be a lot lower. I didn't here the speech last night but there had to have been at least something about these subjects. But to the main question I think the state of the union could be better.
I think our state isn't in union because every state has a different opinion or idea. So everyone won't agree with everyone else.

If Obama plans on fixing the economy, why doesn't he just do it already? He says hes going to take action so lets just get on with it. No one wants another Depression. So take action! I hope he does very soon. The fate of the Country depends on him.
The state of union is a good thing for some people and bad for all others so for some people it will help them unlike the others.
I honestly think that the state of the union is... OKAY!!! I think that the economy and other things could be better, like the war in Iraq, which are things Obama talked about. But until he actually does fix all of these things, the state ofthe union will stay in the middle.
They are really in denial about all of this if we buget and stop waisting our money we could be out of this recession soon.
It covered a lot but could have been better and cover more, but i think our nation is going to beable to tought this out just as we have all of our other national problems.
I thought President Obama made a very good speech. He covered all most of all the topis facing America. & i like how we talked a lot about getting people jobs..

A speech always has different opions and i think his speech was mainly about the economy which i think is good because our eonomy isnt good. so we should focus on that right now!
why would he get mad at the supreme court for doing what they did i am pretty sure that they have alot more power and they can pull him out as fast as he got in.

Yes, we do need to fix the econemy, but in order to fix the econemy we need to fix the smaller problems. We need to fix our problem with unemployment. there are so many problems with unemployment and people cant afford to pay taxes. more jobs, more people working, more people pay taxes, more money for the government to pay off debt.
A lot of people are for it and and don't like it. But if its going to help the economy I say go for it. It may help us get back on track!!
i think that the president is just stalling so he does not have to fix the economy. i bet that america will not pick obama in the next election.

I think that the economy could be better because we're going through a recession people. We just might go though another greater depression and we do not want that, do we? We might lose a lot of money this year. Money is going to go down the drain so how are we going to fix this?

The nation is not in very good conditions because we don't have enough jobs, people are afraid of terrorism, and Obama is not helping things. He thinks he's is always right and knows what's best but even the people who liked him in the beginning don't like him now. Even the democrats are turning against him.
I think our union could use a bit more help. I personally don't think that we're at the state that we should be at. We're at the same normal state that we've been at for awhile, and I think we should be higher. We should come up with more jobs for the unemployed, and we should be doing more to help the people who need it the most. We need to think of others and our nation, and not just ourselves.
The union is in good shape, but we could be better. I think the people without jobs should start looking for jobs.
I think that Obama is at least trying, which we should be thankful for. I didn't pay much attention when Bush was pay much attention, but from what I gathered, he mainly focused on the war and keeping away threats. President Obama does talk about the war and protection, but he also talks about the state of the people, not just the protection of the people. President Obama is very good with equality of the people, and he is getting us somewhere at least. I think the stimulus is not a failure, but not a complete success either, in my opinion, complete success is not possible.
The Sate of the Union could be in better shape. We have all seen a improvement in our economy it might not be a great improvement but with time I believe that we will get there. Its proven that were are going somewhere just take a look at our stock market the Dow Jones has gone from almost 5,500 to 10,000 points....... that has to show that we are going somewhere, doesn't it?
Our economy is bad already and we are not getting better at all. I admit that we are making a little bit of progress, but there is no BIG achievements in our society.
The united states is not at its best right now. We have multiple problems still that have not been solved yet by are country. We only can be paitent with what is going to happen. Well heres my opinion, that we should keep going and try to solve are problems but there are some things that we should not keep like the health care reform. I am not with it at all and Obama said durring the state of union that he will have it passed . Will it i think not with the change in congress. Change is that going to happen?
The state of the union is not good right now because Americans are uneasy. No one feels 100% stable or safe, either in the war on terror or with financial problems. We already know people are losing jobs, etc... My suggestion to all: Put on your big boy pants, America, and fix your own problems because frankly, The government is not "mommy." We all need to work hard and help one another without depending on the government, and become educated! Thomas Jefferson said that we cannot remain ignorant and free. I think he did good and he could do better
Obama could hbe a better president by bringing back people from the war and dedicating himself to the economy and the state.
I think that the State of the Union is better than last year, but not good enough. The government should work on creating more jobs and getting out of debt. Health care isn't really that important of an issue, while so many Americans are out of work, because they can't pay for it anyway.
Obama has stepped up in many situations but now its time. He needs to help our economy
In my opinion, Obama's Address was NOT a State of the Union Address. It seemed more like one of his campaign speech to me. He spent 5 minutes on the real state of the Union and the rest of the time on things that he wanted to change and telling Congress to make him a bill fixing it. If this is how he thinks he can deal with problems, then I'm sorry America, but we are in for a long 3 years.
I think that Obama made a grate speech, but His Ideas/Plans might take forever to come true so to say. Everyone is losing jobs, I would like one but nobody is highering. Just be careful what you say, it may cause people to go out there and start something, in a good or bad way

I think the State of the Union isn't at its best, but not at its worst. I just hope all of the jobs President Obama is promising will some day be a part of reality. I hope the number of unemployed people decrease in 2010 because it is really bad now. Fixing global warming may be a hassle but I can't wait to see what President Obama actually does to make it better. I hope President Obama's promises will also go into action soon. I wish President Obama good luck, he is doing good so far.

It seems as if President Obame is trying to "baby" us out of this recession. I think that we are capable of controlling our own minds and actions as well as our political views. I do not think all of this is President Obama's fault but I think that he could have handeled this better. I may not agree with all of his views, but I wish he could try just a bit harder to create this recession more controlled and I wish him all the luck in th world. Good Luck to the President!
Well i think we are in bad shape.obama is treating the american people like a child he needs to guide. he needs to listen to us more.he is breaking the promises he made in his campiegn and he needs to stop doing so many interviews and actualy do something to stop hurting the mass of debt we have encountered.

When the president did the state of the union address it's just a speech. He Should put those words into action, and stop making a big deal about it.
The state of the union isn't the best it has ever been but it certainly isn't at it's worst. Hopefully Obama will do what he's says he's going to do. If we fixed some of the worldwide issues before, maybe we would have a better chance but he is doing just fine with what he's doing.

I think that Obama needs to fix the economy but he can't spend to much money because of how much debt we're already in. He needs to try to start making a new stimulus package of work on the existing one.
I think the State of the Union is bad, but not terrible. Even though the recession is officially over the economy and unemployment is bad, bad, bad. President Obama has to act and create bipartisanship among that bickering Congress. Also he has to pass healthcare and take a larger role in the healing of the United State's economy.

The current state of the union is alright, but it must be fixed soon. The economy: Bad. Global Warming: BADDDD BAD BAD. Obama hasn't gotten much done, but hopefully he will eventually. There's still plenty of people that are unemployed. Global warming is just getting worse and worse. And Obama is doing okay with everything, but remember: its been a year. Try to think about what YOU could have done if you were the president in just 1 year.

The reason why the i think that the economy can be better is because i see a lot of people without any jobs or places to stay. But on the other hand, Americas economy is doing better because we have a great president which makes the economy better.

i think the State of the Union kinda stinks. Obama better keep his promises to give all of the people who are jobless jobs. America has a cycle. The citizens give the government tax which goes to the building of roads and buildings and whatever else. If we cant give that money to the government then the government cant make all of the roads and buildings and whatever. Even worse we will get kicked out of our houses and probably die very soon of food deprivation, just saying. Obama better get employment to those who have none. And everyone with two jobs pick ONE! Give the other one to someone who needs it more than you.
I think Obama needs to think back to kindergarten when he would play with building blocks. This pertanied to the economy because we need to take small steps one block at a time to rebuild a structured ecomony.
America is a place where people have the right to flourish and grow in any profession they choose. The economy is so bad, that people don’t feel they have that right. They look for jobs that just keep their head above water because nobody is financially stable enough to hire more people. Also, too many kids drop out of high school at eighteen. The economy will get no better unless these kids can even have enough education to get any sort of job.
I think that even though our economy is getting better, we are not doing what can help us ALOT:tax the wealthy. Since they have lots of money, they can pay the taxes which will help our economy.
I think that one reason the economy isn't doing that well is because we are helping Haiti more than helping your country. Why help Haiti when they need it they have never helped us on 9-11 or anthing.
I think we should keep spending money on education, F.B.I, and space exploration otherwise our country can be ruined because we would have no education which means we would not be one of the top countries anymore even though it may give us money it's not worth the risk.

The Union could have been better, but Obama did a good job expressing what he believes needs to be fixed. Im glad he told the Republicans that if they dont like his plans to make their own.

I think things could be better by letting others speak their ideas. And definately NOT raise taxes. And maybe the kids could run the planet, we know a lot! And besides if our government was doing well, people would have jobs! Because serously, get a grip! And don't run to presidant obama with all your problems, he has kids and a whole country to run! And whatever you do, don't cause more problems.
And we can solve at least one problem by recycling!

I think Obama is going to be good in the State Of Union...........
The State of The Union may not be perfect, but then again, nothing is. As the republicans blame Obama for his mistakes, we should look at his accomplishments. He is supporting middle class workers, taxing the wealthy but not the poor. We learn from our mistakes, and build on our accomplishments.
One thing that Obama said is right, which is a first from him: The whereabouts of the economy should be up to the American people.
The twisted thing about this statement, though, is that it is coming from him. The government needs to stop lying to the People and make a decision because loose ends won't do anything for us. We need to tie them up, but when that happens we shouldn't stop and try to think of a good knot to use. Just pick one that works and go for it!

I think that Obama is making a big mistake building the high speed railway. He might say his is going to do all of thoes things but will he carry out what he says. If he doesnt then that is just lying to the American people.
The state of the union is NOT great. Our economy is still suffering and the president thinks that taxing the middle to wealthy class and giving money to the people that are struggling is not going to solve that. THIS IS NOT COMMUNISM. Our founding fathers started us out with a republic. WORK for what you get. Not everyone is going to be equal and you know what? That's life. So I think the president needs to stop trying to give government handouts and start really trying to follow the system of government set-up by our forefathers. It worked for them. Minor changes and adjustments can be made, but if Obama continues, we'll end up a communistic nation before you know it. And it's sad because the youth of America is growing up to believe the liberal messages that dominate most of the media (no offense..). But having un-educated youth will lead America down a bad path. We need to learn to keep up with the news, learn the facts, and be educated about our government. It has really become corrupt, yet so few people my age know that.
Obama said his first priority is jobs, so the first thing to do is regulate outsourcing, especially that of companies that received stimulus funds. Outsourcing labor is in some cases inhumane, and completely Un-American. That will definitely create jobs, and stop the exploitation of children in some third world countries. On the downside, it will probably also raise the prices on many things because of fair wage regulations in the U.S. The question then remains, is it okay for big businesses to make mostly profit at the expense of both Americans and the children working for three cents an hour in their sweatshops?
The state of the union is bad, but government partisanship and lack of respect are the problem. I believe that in decades before ours discipline and respect for elders and perseverance to move forward in commitments encouraged a strong economy. I think that we need to reform our disciplinary system. The founders wrote in the constitution,"(Freedom) from cruel and unusual punishment" but these rights shouldn't extend to children. I have been disciplined severely, but I have learned that this is the basis to keeping commitments and such.
We send work out to China because of the low labor cost. Anyone think about lowering the minimum wage, and bring work back to the US? We need to compete with China, not whine because they offer better prices.
The state of the union speech was ok. I watched it. He just yelled commands. He didn't show any detailed steps. These things usually take time.
America needs to learn how to walk if anybody wants the country to get better because mommy is leaving soon.
Obama is a great help in small things but he needs to remember that our economy is bad and he needs to start helping or else we might look weak and get walkeed all over.

Currently the state of the union is in a down fall. Just as it seems to be getting back up again, it falls right down. Obama says he'll do so many things, but when it comes to it he isn't doing anything. Where are all the jobs that were supposed to have been made with the stimulus bill money? That's right they haven't been made. Don't get me wrong Obama is working hard at times, but his ideas I don't believe will make a difference in the state of the union.

I think that the state of the union address was very but that is not the main issue. The main issue is that if Obama can fix the economy which is what he said in the speech. The problem is that I dont think that Obama con do what he said. We will see what he does.

The state of the union is doing BAD. People are suffering from loss of houses, food, and their job. The economy is doing not so good of a job and China should really be hepling us fight for our country but that really depends on the country and how high and low we are.
The State of the Union is not good. It could be better. The economy is doing okay because we peple are loosing their jobs, taxes are going up higher, and more. When people loose their jobs, people are making less money. When taxes go up higher, people are loosing money.

when President Obama gave his state of the union address he had some good ideas to boost the economy and job loss but it is up to him to carry through on what he says or this could just be another loss to our government
Well the state of union is going ok but Obama and the goverment could do alot to make it better.
Since we've been shipping jobs to other countries their economy has been prospering while america is being brought to it's knees. We got ourselves into this mess and I think we should be the ones getting ourselves out of it instead of looking to other countries to help.
Obama is trying to do as much as possible, but its going to take a lot more than that. There are way too many people that dont have jobs. If our country stays like this, a lot of things will be wrong.
obama did an awful job with his speech. he skipped major parts and questions. he is not well fit to be a president
I think the government should do more. Obama says he is going to fix the problem but I believe he needs to start taking his word for it. We are in a recession and not much is being done. I feel for the people of Haiti, but using our money to fix there problem will only make things worse.

I think the State of the Union Adress should be changed. It is not horrible, but it is not great either. Although our President is trying, he is not approatching some of the issues correctly. He needs to rethink his plans. The way he is leading our country, today, is to a socialist/ communist country. Our founding fathers faught for our freedoms so we would be able to have/do everything ourselves, but President Obama is taking us away from our freedoms and closer to the socialist/ communist ways.
I think we are doing good but it could and should be better since we a a country that people look up to. I think if we should just put more jobs up for less pay so we could still afford it and the economy would become mor stable.
The economy is so confusing right now I'm not sure if anyone knows exactly what is going on. I know there are some issues, but Mr.Obama is working to fix them even if sometimes he doesn't succeed. How would you feel if everyone were pressuring you to make a major decsion? I am not saying I like what Obama is doing, but I respect him anyways.
I think Obama could do alot better but he still just the Pres. and doesnt have as much power as poeple think. no matter what decision he makes he has to get it past congress. He should conserve spending, and try to lower the twelve trillion dollars debt.

O.k.~ first of all people all over the world want to be like us, we are like their role model! And what kind of role model are we being right now! It's great that we are sending jobs to places that need them more. But right now before we send anymore out we need to get our economy back up and running! And if we don't get our economy back up and running the whole world will go into a recession! And when we do get back up and running we can get back to sending out jobs.....just not as many as we were so we can keep some jobs here!

The union isn't doing horrible right now, but it could definitely be better, especially with the job loss we have right now.
I just wanted to say, everybody seems to disapointed in America. Well if you think the American economy is bad, or just plain the laws or the country, look at Haiti, or Iran, or just about any other country and you will see how well off we are. Everybody in this world seems bent on complaining, why can't we just realize how good things are? At least the unemployment rate isn't twenty percent, or even fifteen. At least the majority of us have food at the table. I agree that Obama could to better, but who couldn't? I think he is doing the best he can, every president has done the best they can. I do not get why so many people have to complain and whine.
I am not finding my first comment posted, so I will say it again. We are in too much debt. We cannot afford to get into more. Billions of dollars, and we're still spending. We need to focus on paying debt, instead of getting into more. We are already in so much we will not be able to pay it off for generations. We need to do better!

Half and half. I mean the bad side is the wars going on(as if we call it hatetrid), the ecomny, people ding from Swine Flu, health care ,and the eaarthquak in Hati :(. The good side is we are helping people all over Hati and we have an outstanding presedent.
The state union is not great. I think so because they are makeing taxes higher.

We send works out to China but not thinking how this could cause our country in a big debt. Even though everyone wants to save money but by sending the work to China is not helping you. When you send the work to China it cause the workers in the united states to lower down. And when the workers don't have any jobs they trying to buy less. And when they don't use their money, you won't get money. It is a cause and effect cycle. It will never end.
If we can create work for the un-employed our economy will be on the fast track to sucess
I think the economy is real bad right now,Obama's plans for how to fix the economy is alright but he should continue trying to help the problems the economy is facing right now instead of making MORE problems for the future...

I think our state of the union was better last year but not good enough. it's not just presidents Obama's fault that our economy is so bad and he IS trying to make it better. He should just start out with small steps to make our economy better instead of taking big leaps for example he has had a chance to stop the war in Iraq but hasn't. He needs to rethink his plans.
I think the government needs to take a step back. The Constitution says, "We the People" not, "We the Government." Our country should be lead by the people and for the people, and not by the government.

The State of the Union adress is not a speech so much about the current state of the union but what is going to be the state of the union, what we need to do and what were going to do. many think about only what is going on and dont think about what is neccesary to help it continue growing. We need to stop complaining like a bunch of 7th graders and start helping the people in charge of helping us. Food for thought.

Just more bla bla bla! It seems that there is no end to either Democrat’s or Republican's give away programs to war mongers and socialists. The government should have never given a cent to anyone in the banks or in foreclosure. The solution to the housing market was and still is to force the banks to lower interest rates to 3% or 50% less then what the average rates has been for the last 6 years, then only cover banks losses when they start to occur and gradually raise the rates as the economy recovers; then out properties would not have been devaluated! This reduction in mortgage rates should be available to anyone who owns a residential property for personal or investment ownership! The only money that should be funded for jobs should be to repair City, State, and Federal roads, bridges, dams, and infrastructure! Nothing should be given to non-profit groups or any other welfare program or government pensions, healthcare, or government, or union entitlements! What you reward you get; so rewarding welfare and the deadbeats losing their homes is only supporting the creation of more deadbeats! Those of us who have managed our money correctly are the only ones not being rewarded; when we are the only ones who deserve reward! .

some states have separate laws and some laws go almost against one another ,some go together but most don't, they are bound by the main laws but the minor laws don't conect states like they should.
I honestly think that the state of the union is... OKAY!!! I think that the economy and other things could be better, like the war in Iraq, which are things Obama talked about. But until he actually does fix all of these things, the state ofthe union will stay in the middle.
Obama, during the state of the union, kept on commenting on how america needs to be number one, has to be on top, and all powerful. Thats not right, our constitution states "all men are created equal", yet we are supposed to belive that we are better than all of the other countries in this world, if you ask me thats positivly ridiculous. If he is to enforce the constitution, there needs no hipocracracy in this matter, by the constitution, he is violating every non- american.

the state of the union address is really important when it comes to informing the people or the USA. We all want to know what the government is doing, and how it is effecting us. It is evident that people aren't pleased with where our economy is at the moment, so people want to know what the president (and the government) are going to do about it!!!!
Obama promised a lot. it is turning out that few if any of his big plans are carrying through. I think people are seeing Obama for who he really is. A socialist.
Everyone is in different situations and need different things and advice. I think the President should take some of the advice and conflict and put it to uses! Find people and ask them what they think should happen and the over all say in about the same thing should be used. If our country is all about we the people then we the people should help decide what happens or atleast have a say/ give the president a direction to go in.
i think obama is not thinking of all the people in the U.S. when he is doing the health care bill. Every body would probably agree with me about this. nobody is going to be able to pay for the health care and the people that really need to se the doctor will have to suffer, unlike all the rich people in the United States have enough money to pay for the darn health care. they will use it over something that is not so seriusly wrong with them like a paper cut how pethetic is that.
