Health Care Legislation: What's Next?

We've been covering this health care reform story for much of this school year, and it looks like the election of Massachusetts Republican Scott Brown is a game-changer in Washington.  Thursday's show talks about what this could mean for President Obama's top priority - and the significant detour that the health care debate could take.

What do you think about all this?  Our recent polls indicate that the economy is first on the minds of most Americans.  Where does health care reform rank for you?  And where do you think the health care debate is going from here?

Health care is second for me because the status of Americans depends on economy. Health care will become an issue only in certain cases. Health care problems have less of an impact than economical problems.

I believe the health care plan proposed by president Obama should take into place.
Middle and low class workers make up 95% of the whole society and they are the ones who really need free health care.
The problem is that they cannot afford health care from private businesses because it's too expensive.

i think they schould let everyone have good health care and even if they or poor or even rich. I think that because every human schould have the same amount of health care as people in different state or country

i think they should change the bill because most americans disagree with this bill and out nation is a democracy and that means every man, women, and child have a right to speak to the world about what they think and i as an american i think this bill should change.

i think the health care situation is relly becoming a handfull. i also think that it should be affordable for anyone that needs it. i think this will result into a huge debate.

we should not all be worried about health care we should be foucused on what we reallly need help on which is our economy.

I think that its great that brown won because obamas plan would reaise taxes and many americans cant aford a tax increase exspesialy with all these people being laid off

Well to me, health care should be the number one priority. I believe that health care has been commercialized to the point where it is no longer a right but a privilage–a privilage for only those who can afford, which, the population of this group, continues to dwindle and will continue to dwindle if nothing is done.

I think having healthcare for all Americans is incredibly important, and the Republicans and Democrats should stop their petty squabbling and just realize that the economy is bad. People have so many other things to worry about. They shouldn't have to worry if they can afford to get sick or not.

I think that it could do us good if Republican Scott Brown changes the plans for the Health Care bill. With a delay they could talk more about the bill and change a few things that could be changed. How knows, maybe with this hesitation we could end up with a bill a little bit better than it is now.

I think that Obama will what for the new seat because it would hurt his image. But then they wont get it signed. I did know about it but I don't know how it would benifit or effect me. I think that Obama should focus more money on our economy and less on this bill.

I would rank the health care reform 2 I think that we need to worry about other things than health. Obama has put a lot of work into health care and very little work into other important things.

I think that all of this is getting to the point where it is too big of a deal. As a kid the health care bill isn't what I am thinking about and trying to keep updated on. I'm not sure how far it has gotten but I don't think the health care bill will get very far seems how it is stilling being issued.

I really don't know what to think about all this. I think that health care is important, and so I don't see why we're waiting. I guess that their going to wait, if that's what they want to do. Rating the health care reform from 1-10, I guess I would give it a 4 or a 5. I think that as long as this is going somewhere, then they can wait if that's what they really think they need to do.

I think that the health care reform is going to end up going up on the amount of people that do have health care. I think this because if the government starts to take money out of peoples taxes then more people will be able to have health care and not just the people that can pay for it. It is really important if you have health care because if you have an injury the government can pay for it and you won't have to.

I think that people should just agree on one thing and go with it. I don't know where the health care ranks me. They health care debate is going to go bad from here. Many people do not agree with this. All this health care stuff is confusing to me.

I think that if the newly-elected Republican Scott Brown, would change the plans for the Health Care Debate, it might do us good. I don't think that the Heath Care Debate is going so well, it's been going downward.

I think I the Health care reform should not happen. The way health care is now is okay. But the way the debate is going I don not think the Bill is going to pass.

I don't really care because i'm only thirteen so it will effect me later on but right now i let my parents deal with it. So i don't really know what they should do next.

For me Health Care would rank a least second. We should worry about the state of our economy before we get to concerned about this health care reform. If this reform passes then the economy would have some effect on it and us as a nation. I feel that we should drop the health care reform just until we get the economy more under control.

I think that they need to start helping the country get out of debt instead of putting us more in it. It isn't helping our country at all by oputting us more in debt.

I don't like it at all! It ranks for me that if stuff like this keep up then when we are grown up than we will pay for the mistakes that they made and it will be even harder for us to find jobs and lots of things will go up in prices which will really suck.

I think that it is a good idea for Obama to do this but. I also think that we do need to fix our ecomany. I think that this is a good idea but we also need to foucas on our ecomany too. So I d't know if it;s the best idea for right know it may be better for later on.

I think that the health care bill is to much. Every one is happy how they are and it is to expenice. I think it is unfair.

I think that they will try to pass the health care bill before Scott Brown goes into office, but I do not think that they will succeed. I think that it will take at least another month to make an agreement. For me the number one priority is the war because if we can fix that I think it would help fix the economy. I think the Health Care reform is probably third most important for me; after the war and the economy.

What I think about the health care is that it needs to come to a stop and people aren't even able to have health care. I think that the health care would rank to a 3 or 4 for me because it is all just turning into an argument. I think that the health care debate is going crazy because they are making it to where almost all people are not able to have health care.

I have faith in legislative process and Senators and Representatives will find a bipartisan solution. Compromise will need to be made on both sides of the aisle to pass the health care bill. Also, more Representatives and Senators can vote and debate based upon their constituents views, rather than party affiliation, because they will not be the "lone man in the wolf pack.."

Health Care reform must be in the minds of most Americans because it is a big issue for those without enough money to pay for health.

I, Being a democrat, am not very pleased to see that seat go to a republican. This could spell disaster for this bill, which i have been hoping will pass. In my eyes, the best solution is to rush the bill through, if the republicans filibuster it could be months.

What is your problem health care is very important, and it should not be taken so lightly. We're failing in almost everything with our economy. We need all the help we can get in every why we can get it. Even we need help or we wouldn't help each other.

I've been following this whole issue for a while and it seems that we're getting there faster than expected. Despite my age, it's pretty high up on the list of things I worry about because, although it may not affect me at the moment, it will affect me in the near future.

i think that they should make heath care free. But only for the people who need it. Because some rich people are lying saying oh i cant afford it so ya.

I think that this health care reform could go in two different directions. It could go in a direction that supports the health care reform or where it doesn't support the health care reform. This debate is going no where at this point. The debate could result in many people being happy and pleases or many people being angry or upset.

I think that it better that we build on our economy. If we were make the policy right now we wouldn't have the economy to back it up. Also there will be a lot people that wouldn't buy because they don't have jobs

I don't think that it is a good thing that Obama should make this health care plan. What if we want our own health care plan? He should let us pick our own health care plan.

    January 21, 2010 at 2:22 pm |
  48. Gabriel

I think that president Obama is not really putting health care first but he has made some improvement. I think that people should pay more attention to the economy than the health care. I think that we should do that because we need our economy back on track so the people can get money to pay for health care and then I think that they need to get there minds back on health care and get that better.

  50. Spencer

I think we should get the economy back on track. We should worry about the economy before health care because the economy is a big thing for everyone in the united states. Once we get the economy rolling the health care subject would be an easier thing to deal with.

    January 21, 2010 at 2:24 pm |
  51. RaeLyn

I think we should keep our mind on the economy...many people are jobless, some homeless and they need to find the necessities before thinking about the health care reform. If we don't concentrate on the economy, then it could turn into another depression, which we really don't need right now. We should concentrate on the economy before the health care plan for now to protect our country from going into another depression.

    January 21, 2010 at 2:24 pm |
  52. Dylan

I think that it's good Scott Brown was elected because the health care would come out of everyone's checks, because many people don't have that kind of money. I think that we should focus on getting the economy back on track, because if we don't people would have better health care, but people would have even less money from the taxes. I think that the health care debate is going to become a waste of time, because so few people are willing to change their mind, making it so that they don't focus on other things like the economy.

    January 21, 2010 at 2:25 pm |
  53. Sydnee

well i think that Scott Brown is right. I also think we are going to be fine in health care!

    January 21, 2010 at 2:25 pm |

I think that Obama is not really putting health care. I think that the economy is more important. I think that health care is something to think about later.

    January 21, 2010 at 2:26 pm |
  56. Kayli

I think the Health Care reform has gone a long way. I think they should do something similar to the health care reform that way people won't fight over it any more. That would be a lot better than people fighting over it.

    January 21, 2010 at 2:27 pm |
  57. Kenzie

I wish that they would stop fighting about health care because other people don't have enough money to pay for shots. In some country's they don't even give the flu shots for free.

    January 21, 2010 at 2:27 pm |
  58. shamon

i wish they would pass the bill because there are a lot of people i the united states that can't pay for it. and senc we are in an economic crisase even people that aren't poor don't have enough money to pay for health care. And imagene all those kids that are sick dying cause they dont have health care.

I think health care is realy bad right now because. This state can not pay for it and the cause of that is people are losing their jobs because. There is not alot of money in the world for people.

It dosn't really effect my family because my Dad's work gives my family insurance. The only way it probably effect my family is the taxes that come with it. I still think healthcare and it's debate aren't going well.

I think they should just lower the health-care bills all together. When I say that people say to me "oh it sounds easy but it's actually very complicated" I mean seriously? How hard could it be? I bet they're just saying that so it sounds like Obama's doing it already but he's not. They also say "oh he's so busy" Yeah right! The government and congressmen don't let the president actually DO anything. They just make him sit there in his office and greet the visitors. Let him do stuff!!

I think that healthcare should be backseat to the economy. America's healthcare reaches most LEGAL Americans so why do we worry about it now?
    Thanks!

    January 21, 2010 at 3:00 pm |
  76. ori

I think president obama should try to explain and reason with the repoblicans and try to tell them that the truth is it would take a lot more suffering and how taxes would have to be raised 125% to quikly get back on track wich will ruin the economy. Because americans would have trouble with taxes more than two times higher. with less relief money.

I think either way you look at it. The health reform needs to be passed. Whether you think it is to much money or we don't need. A lot of people need healthcare. I think it should be passed

In my opinion, I think that health care is very important. Defanitaly ranking high for me. I love how President Obama is trying this hard for our country. Really needed! Hopefully it will get passed!!

It looks like the democrats are going to need to change the bill around a bit, which I'm OK with, as that's democracy. I just wish it was in plain English; It would probably help them, and if not, it'll get a better bill.

    January 21, 2010 at 3:17 pm |

If I was the president I would have the economy on my mind first. Next it would be the Health but I would make sure that the economy is god then go to the Health care issue. Then if I would worry about the other stuff that is happening.

    I think that he is doing a good thing for the health care poeple and the people that are really sick.... But I don't really spend my time thinking or talking about the health care or my health care. So I think that it is a good hing that someone is ding something about it......:}

I think that the health care reform is important but I agree we should fix the economy first. When the economy is fixed we can worry about health care. Also if the economy is fixed people will have more money for health care. If we have more money President Obama's health care plane would be better because we wouldn't have to worry about the money being taken from our taxes.

I think that this whole health care debate is getting hawire. If it were up to me, I would just end it. Dosen't everybody need health care?

  85. April

I think that it will help our country to pass this bill. Heath care ranks not so high for me but it does for like my parents and grandparents and other people that have to worry about there heath more than a healthy kid would. I think that they are not going to pass the bill because there are not enough people on the side for the bill.

    January 21, 2010 at 3:20 pm |
  86. Zachary

It is a good thing because Obama would increases and most Americans wouldn't be able to pay the taxes. I don't know that much people that wouldn't be able to pay taxes. I'm glad that brown won.

    January 21, 2010 at 3:20 pm |
  87. Ashlynn

The heath debate is going to go down cause their is a lot more people than there needs to be. Well, I think about all of this is that people will take advantage of the heath so they will go and do what ever to get help.

    January 21, 2010 at 3:20 pm |
  88. caleb

I think that they shouldn't just pass it. If they dont pass it then they need to do something because are econimy is down the drain. I think that the health care reform is a really good thing, but we owe so much debt to so many country's. I say we pay off those country's then we can do this reform. I think the health care debate will pass but i think it will be wrong if it passes. Over all I say we wait on this health car reform.

    January 21, 2010 at 3:21 pm |
  89. Riley

I am glad that Republican Scott Brown is stepping up to Obama. Health care ranks low for me I have more things to do then talk about health care. I don't think that health care is going to go anywhere because we Americans have to pay for it out of our taxes. Instead of working on health care we should be trying to get out of debt.

I just don't like it because some people could die, includeing my grandpa which i think he needs it, because he saved my life and i'm a person with a happy life. I wouldn't be here if it weren't for him, and i don't want him to die. So if he dies i'm going to be mad for awhile, so please keep it they way it is suppose to be which is normal.

I think that the Democrats and the Rupublicans should stop fighting over the health care reform. They are waisting time on this while people are in desprate need of health care.

  92. ~dakotah~

As of right now i think the health care is going down hill because to many workers are getting fired so there is more for each worker to do. I think that if anyone wants a job they will have to go through a number of tests because they are getting their jobs handed out to them and they dont even know what their doing yet.

If they decide to rush the reform then they may pass it but it would look bad for the President.

I think that after spending all this time on the health care reform bill having a new republican coming and letting it die might not be so bad, if the bill really good it probably would have passed by now. So far it hasn't and it doesn't look like it will anytime in the near future.

My opinion on health care is that they shouldnt just give it away to people that say they need it but they do not have the money to afford it people should have to pay for it

I think that soon people will be suffering left and right if the situation is not fixed. I hope the situation is fixed soon. I don't want to live my grownup life without healthcare insurance for my family!

I think we should just start the bill over again, the majority of Americans don't like it, including myself. We need to come to a conclusion and find the middle, government healthcare with public option.

I think the health care reform is all bogus, I think congress should restart the darn thing, the bill should be forgotten.

    January 21, 2010 at 3:46 pm |
  103. Maurice

In my opinion, the health care bill has two sides. On the positive side it may save thousands of lives may be saved, due to their not having enough money for insurance. On the negative side people will have to pay more money in taxes, therefore forcing people to not spend as much money as they would have, furthermore making the economy worse and at this time of day we need economy as stable as possible.

    January 21, 2010 at 3:46 pm |

now that Brown has been elected, this will completely wipe out the health care bill.

I honestly dont like the health care reform. It involves to much government in people's daily lives. We have enough government involvement. They dont need to control everything. i am very glad that the Repubs won they need it and deserve it and will do the best thing for us.

I don't like th the health care reform brcause the economy is really low right now so we all should take a step back one.

    January 21, 2010 at 6:27 pm |
  109. Megan

I think that they should just start from scratch on health care, or even make a smaller less complicated bill. Because you can always start out small and end up big. We all know this is a huge issue, but the bill right now isn't that great for everyone. A less pricy bill would also be nice, because our country is already in so much debt, I think it's best that we pay it off first before we start making decisions on huge topics like health care.

    January 21, 2010 at 6:35 pm |
  110. Cassidy

I think that the health care debate should end. We should not all have health care. Obama is giving free health care to people who work in illegal ways, and they depend on Obama to take care of them.

    January 21, 2010 at 6:46 pm |
  111. CARLO$

i think that first we should deal with the economy problem. fixing the economy will satisfy people more and they will check it off the list of problems that the government has to deal with. having done that, then we could worry about the health care. instead of having people stress out by taking their tax money for the health care issue, we could just fix the economy and it wouldnt be that big of a deal.

    January 21, 2010 at 6:58 pm |
  112. Angela

A lot of time and effort has been put into the health care plan. It's unfair that a Republican could filibuster the bill to make everyone wait even longer. They should get this over with and move on with the economy.

I think Health Care is important to the U.S. and if Scott Brown gose against the healthe care reform than what Brack Obama promised about health care will not be fofilled.

I believe what Scott Brown is doing by fighting this bill is a great thing. From what I know this is not a great idea. Some people in the U.S. don't have health care and getting the government in on it would make it worse for these people who still need help and don't have the money to afford it right now. The economy doesn't make it any better though. We'll find out when it is passed or not.

I think that this is a good turn for the Senate. This should hopefully balance out the power of congress so that we now have a fair share of power between the political parties.

While I believe health care reform is important, there are just too many people who disagree with too many aspects of this bill. Instead of attempting to find a way to force this legislation through, we need to start from scratch, and attempt to develop a better strategy so this can work.

I think that this will be a good turn for the Senate and for all of congress. Now that we have a more balanced system between the parties maybe we can have a government that is open to discussions about bills such as health care.

Health Care seems to be a big issue in this country. Many believe that this country will benefit from this reform, however i disagree. This reform may cause all of the doctors we have here to leave because they won't be making the money that they worked so hard for.

    January 21, 2010 at 9:37 pm |
  124. Heather

I think that the health care reform is going to be simplified form what they originally planned. Hopefully, like he stated, President Obama will try to convince congress to wait to pass the health care reform until Senator Brown begins his term.

    January 21, 2010 at 9:49 pm |
  125. Anna

Between slumps in economy and recent concerns like the H1N1 virus, it seems like health care changes should be in top priority. I hope filibusters and other delays don't keep medical care out of the hands of people in need. I think another rewriting of the bill will only push that care further and further into the future. The suffering of Americans won't wait until the Senate can work out minuscule details.

    January 21, 2010 at 10:29 pm |
  126. Alexa

Since a republican was voted into the senate i think that the health care reform will not be passed. There are a lot of thinks that are good about it but, even democrats want changes done with it. So, for my overall thought on this is that i think the bill needs to be changed and i dont think it will be passed untill there are some changes to it.

    January 21, 2010 at 10:39 pm |
  127. Amy

I think that the Health Care debate is very serious, and that should be the first priority. I hope they wait for Senator Brown to be completly in the senate, and in his seat. He worked hard to get into the senate, so he should be rewarded. They should make a new bill for health care, and start from the beggining. It might take a bit longer, but we have other issues that can be worked on during that time period. The new bill should have things that both republicans and democrats agree on.

    January 21, 2010 at 10:47 pm |
  128. Nick

Now that Scott Brown has been elected and the power in congress has shifted to the Republicans, I believe that any Democratic bill or policy will get filibustered. Health Care will have to wait on the back burner for now.

  129. Frank

To put it in mathematical terms, there has been a 2% swing in the power differential for 50% of the legislative branch of government which of course makes up 33% of the federal hierarchy. In other words, as the 41 member of the minority party Brown will now be imbued with near limitless power over financial military and social policy, which is just as our founders intended.

I think Obama should just change the health care bill so the citizens in the middle-class don't pay for the health care bill and instead the Democrats do because they want it so much. Why should everyone pay if not everyone wants it.

  134. Justin

Well we have more people living by unemployment, I don't think that we should be worrying about Health Care right about now. Our economy should be first on our minds. Once we get American's back on there feet and working again, then we can worry about health care.

    January 22, 2010 at 1:47 am |
  135. Elana

Why not have health care? There are those that need it, but sometimes they can't afford it. Maybe there's a way people can donate money, so that those people who can't afford it,now can.It is up to the people to donate.

I believe this healthcare bill is a huge mistake!! The Democratic party is making thimgs worse. My reason for thinking this way is because most of the people in the country DON'T want it. It's sad because they see what happened with Scott Brown and how his victory was mostly because he promised to not vote for this bill. They should relize this is a bad bill and it should be dropped!!

At my list, the Healthcare reform is third. The economy is number one, and Haiti is second, which I honestly think should be on every Americans list. From here, the only thing this Healthcare reform can do is go up. I don't think it will, but it can't get any worse.

I think health care is a big problem in the U.S. I think President Obama should make Health care seem a small problem beacause people are suffering because they dont have the money to cure their sickness. Everyone shouldnt get Health care but some dont because some work illegally or their here illagally. President Obama should fix this.

I think that health care is a big issue in our country and i believe that the docters are not geting enough money for the health care for all the work they are doing. Health vare is a big part in our country and I think that Barack Obama is doing the right thing.

    January 22, 2010 at 10:01 am |

Health care is probably the most important thing because many can't afford it , and if we don't have health care people and get really sick and even die. I think President Obama can get the congress to agree to give health care until Senator Brown stats his term.

    January 22, 2010 at 10:09 am |

Everyone should have a good Health Care. It's not fair for other people to have a good health care and for others who don't. Hopefully the debate is going well. I still think we should put the econmy first.

...i have researched on this bill and I believe this bill is the worst bill our country could pass, especially at this time of economic depression. Scott Brown's victory over the senate seat plus many poles shows The american people don't want it!! Do these people not get that? I am so glad that Scott Brown won the senate seat, it opens the opportunity and right to a fillibuster! this means that the republican party can stall, making it never pass, blah blah blah, then it dies so there is hope for the american people. Good Luck in the Senate, to Scott Brown.
    Thank You:)

I think it is not a smart idea to focus on Health care when we have all the debt we are in. Spending that much money on Health care right now is something we can’t do. We need to focus on what we need to accomplish, not what we should add on to.

    January 22, 2010 at 12:51 pm |

The health reform could cause a lot of sick, disabled, or poor people to have even less health care, since the health bill will tax for health benefits or emergencies, things like that.

    January 22, 2010 at 12:52 pm |
  165. Fido

I think this health care stuff is madness. Just because some people can't pay for it doesn't mean you can controll everyone and force them to have good health. It's nosey, rude, and overpowering. If we let this happen, we will under dictatorship!

    January 22, 2010 at 12:52 pm |
  166. Personn

I think we should keep our mind on the economy. Many people are jobless, homeless, and they need to find the necessities before thinking about the health care reform. If we don't concentrate on the economy, then it could turn into another depression, which we really don't need right now. We should concentrate on the economy before the health care plan for now to protect our country from going into another depression.

In my opinion, the health care reform is somewhere in the middle of my list of important government issues that have the need to be changeed-and soon. For instance, I think the economy should be picked up and on a good track before we work our way back to this topic. Health care -is- important for all, but if they pass some of the ideas the legislatures have, I don't think the main idea of it will be accomplished anytime in the near future. The main idea, of course, is affordable health care for all Americans. Many, no -countless- lives could possibly be saved by a nation-wide guaranteed insurance. However, some of the people who already have a good enopugh insurance are opposed to this particular idea. So, for now, let's just get everything else worked on first and come back to this issue, which is not exactly in desperate need as of now.

    January 22, 2010 at 12:54 pm |
  169. Ivan

I definately think that the economy is more important than health care. If we keep spending money our things like health care our nation will fall apart. How on Earth, can they even THINK about spending more money when we're in TRILLIONS of dollars in debt? It is my personal belief that the U.S. cannot pay it debts, at least not with the behavior politicians are currently showing.

Yeah, American Healthcare? It's certainly not the best in the world. There's a lot of good plans out there that other countries have. For example France were I was born and raised by my parents(Who are american) , you could go to your family practician, for a checkup or if you don't feel good and think you have a cold or anything, he could check what's wrong, advise you on what meds to take and charge you around $30 for the visit. but for american helathcare doctors charge insane amounts of money even for checkups. america must be doing something wrong. I think our healthcare could be priced more reasonable, can't it?

    January 22, 2010 at 1:08 pm |
  172. Raiyne

HEALTH CARE is very important, but so is the economy. If people think that unempoyment is a ticket to getting everything with no charge, they're wrong. Health care helps people, but some abuse it, meaning they get health without doing anything for it.

I think that when Senator Brown starts his term more democrats will start resigning from the senate, from the state of the economy so the senate will be a majority of conervative republicans so the health care reform will not pass.

I think that the idea of having everyone have health care is good because if you didnt have it you would be paying way more than if you did. Thats why i would think that everyone should have it.

i say it is stupid and yet good it is stupid because people who work should get it and the kids should get it to and i say it is good because it might save more money than going into the emergency room

Ummm well i think that this is horrable because people like me and my family need health insurance and all that stuff its just like if i broke me arm right now i would not be able to pay for it so i think that brown should not win!!!!! but thats just meeee!!!!

i dont think everyone should have the benneffit of healthcare. especially with the illegal aliens within our nation. i just think that healthcare should be OFFERED, not just given. but im in a comftorable healthcare plan right now so i couldnt say that my views wouldnt be changed if i had none.

I think that health care should come first when it comes to the U.S.A. , because there are alot of people who need health care right now but aren't quite qualified for it yet. I also think the idea Obama said about health care is something i agree with. i don't really like poltics, because the senators and house representatives always agrue about something, that most likely ends up hurting someone else in the government.

  201. Teagan

I think that it should depend on how much $$$ you do have and how hard you really do work to get that money. what is going on is people who do have jobs arent giving there money away to people that dont work because they cant but there giving there money away to people who are perfectly able to make enough money tp pay for there costs... people who make a living and who make very nice sums of money still have to pay taxes to policment who need a new car, state taxes to the people who make roads and other stuff and in the end people are loosing more money than they are making and i think its stupid and not fare

I think that the health care thing is good. Someone like that guy Brown don't know half the people that are in debt with just their medical bills. If they knew half of the story then guess what they would be making progress. If one of them just went into a community where everyone was in debt with their medical bills. They would be shocked! Devestated! Worried! All of them would want to have the medical bill. So i thinnk that the health care thing would be the best thing that some people might need in the future. ^,...,^

i think this is about health care and the people in need and people who dont want it to start up?
Health care is important to me and many of other people, because it is thier life and futrue so im just a teen and i dont really have to worry about my health care my parents take care of me but when i grow older this will be very mportant and i will need to hav an opion but this is a hard debate and i think we should do it as long as we dont have to pay more and it doesnt hurt anyoneelses program

I think that it is nice that we want to help another country but it is a bad idea because we are in dept. We dont have enough money to help other people even if they do need it. We need to fix our country before we can help anyone else.

I think this is getting to be such a huge deal. I mean, it should be a big deal, but I think we should just make a decision already! The majority of the bill will, I'm sure, go to people who already have health care, but I hope that that will change and most of it will go to the people without health care. But wouldn't it be simple if it was all equal and everyone had health care? Why do people make things so complicated?

    January 22, 2010 at 5:03 pm |

I think that the healthcare plan is very important. I think the healthcare plan is going to be passed so people will have better healthcare. It might give it to most people in the United States. This is what I think of the plan.

I think that the health care bill may be passed soon, but with a new person in, there will be more opinions being put across. Health care should be thought out this long though because it is an issue that will effect everyone.

    January 22, 2010 at 6:36 pm |
  232. Laina, Stacy, and Caroline

We personally think the health care reform is a ridiculous idea. Everyone in this country must work for their own money to benefit themselves. People who work 14 hours a day and work extremely hard, should not have to pay for someone who is lazy, slacks off and can't pay for their own health care. With this recession, people cannot afford to pay higher taxes for healthcare. If president Obama 'thinks' healthcare would do good for america's properity, he is mistaken.

    January 22, 2010 at 7:54 pm |
  233. Ivanka

Health care definitely isn't as important as getting our economy up and going again. Although I feel that every American should have reliable and affordable health care, I fear that if the bill President Obama and the democrats have proposed passes, it would make people in the middle class and people considered "rich" will have to pay way too much money for the lower class people that can't aford health care. It definitely wouldn't be fair to give our hard earned cash to people who might expect to automatically be given money when they aren't even working for it. I believe now that Senator Brown was elected, he will keep us on the right track of making health care reliable and affordable for all Americans, but in a way that is fair for all people.

    January 22, 2010 at 8:24 pm |
  234. Ivanka

I am sorry, but anyone that supports this bill is out of their mind. Over 50% of Americans don't support it and yet all the democrats, like Harry Reid, are still trying to pass it. This is an OUTRAGE. Their job is to be passing bills that Americans agree with. If they aren't doing that then they aren't doing their job.

    January 22, 2010 at 8:30 pm |
  235. Carmen

I think that with our economy like it is, noone seems to think about anything else other than...well...money. As much as president Obama seems to be trying to help us get out of the dumps, that dosen't change the fact that we are still there.

    January 22, 2010 at 11:03 pm |
  236. Billy

I think the health care plan should get passed because even with the expenses that are going to need to get paid off . I think we need to face the facts and pass it, get everyone healthcare and have world healthcare around the nation.

    January 23, 2010 at 2:00 am |
  239. Tyler

Health care comes after economical problems with me because the status of Americans depends on economy. Health care will become an issue only in certain cases. Health care problems have less of an impact than economical problems at certain times.

    January 24, 2010 at 4:20 pm |
  240. Isaac

I think that the debate is going south from here because of what the democrats have been trying to force. Also it is great that the senate is having a new republican, because the republicans can now block the bill and if they can block the bill from being passed, that will help us out a lot because with this bill being passed it is like going back into the great depression.

Why not just tax the rich people according to their income and with this money offer it to those who cant afford health care?

    January 25, 2010 at 2:55 am |
  242. sungil

I think health care bill is just one of the economy plans. Health care bill is that one way of income distribution. This bill can make every people afford to get any health insurance polocies because more competiton in these areas can reduce insurance fees. Medical trip in Mexico, Japan and South Korea? It is ridiculous. Can't go to doctor just because you don't have money. Have you seen any TV documents about health care in France, Finland and Swedon? You can go to doctor without any concerns about money but you just have to pay more tax.

    January 25, 2010 at 6:03 am |
  243. Mikey

I definately think that the economy is more important than healthcare, and that universal healthcare is a bad idea... just look at what it did to France and Canada; Canadians cross the border so that they can receive better healthcare; in France, people wait in lines for months to be diagnosed by doctors, and some even die in line. Is this what we want?

    January 25, 2010 at 11:48 am |
  244. Maria and Selina

Health Care is getting pricey they need to lower it down because a lot of people dont have that much money or a job to pay it off. The ecnomic issuses have highered costs to the most vallueable items needed to make it thru thhese tough times. Also half of the u.s.as population is enemployed so it makes it harder.

    January 25, 2010 at 12:57 pm |
  245. chris

I think the health care reform is extremely important but, the economy is the top priorty because the economy decides how much money we can spend and so i think we need to set the health care reform aside and work on the economy then we can focus on the health care reform.

    January 25, 2010 at 1:16 pm |

    January 25, 2010 at 2:18 pm |
  254. Becky

I think that the health care bill has its ups and downs for many different people. To make a balance between the issues, the senate should reach a compromiser. What President Obama had originally presented would make our country plunge further into the debt abyss. A compromise would benefit the lower class without having to pay ridiculous amounts of money.

    January 25, 2010 at 2:48 pm |
  255. MINDY

I think before we do all that we have to get the economy back on track!! I know we need that for the care, but we need to have the economy back on track first!!!!!

  256. Noah

i think that what happened in massachusetts was a life saver becuase what the healthcare bill is doing is that it is just taxing the wealthy and giving it to the people that can't afford it and to me that isn't fair. mainly becuase it is taking their hard earned money and giving it away forcefully.

    January 25, 2010 at 3:14 pm |

Health Care Reform should NOT be passed! The ecomny should be their first choice, but still it shouldn't be passed. The health care bill is over 2,000 pgs. and the delcration and constution are only a few pages each and that is what we base all of our laws on, so law makers should quit trying to make everything so complicated. I also bet that nobody in the senate can tell you everything that is that bill, so why pass it if they can't tell us what is in it.

I think we should fix the economy first. If you can't go out and try to find a job to afford it then it should be on that person, not anyone else. It may help the lower class people afford it and it may not make a difference to the higher class people but it sure will effect the middle class.

health care isnt just for the needy.some people cant get it with there jobs.so they need it also.if we dont have health care then we're not going to get out of this whole we're in.will spend the money trying to pay for our health bills.i say give the people what we need.

  276. Courtneay

i think to help the economy we should cut goverment spending and increase taxes. That way it's not taking to much away and the people aren't being asked to pay too much. I also think major buisnesses that pull in large amounts of money should be paying more. Finally I think the president should have to start paying taxes while our country is in debt.He lives free basically, and it's not fair his people have to pay and he doesn't.

Obama claims that America's whereabouts should be decided by the People. He is correct–but the odd thing is that this statement is coming from him. If he believed in this statement at all then he would actually listen to what America has to say, and not only listen to it, but also take action based on it.

I wish that the Congress could be made up of a random and just variety of Americans. If this were the case, then Americans really would have their say, instead of the vote to be up to the "normal" members of Congress as we have now–they all have similar beliefs. Is that fair? No!

    January 27, 2010 at 11:42 pm |
  281. Mary

I think that it is going to be very hard for the president to get his healthcare reform signed, becuase now there are more republicans than democrats! The healthcare reform is a good thing, but it bad for those who already have it, because that is just coming out of evryone's taxes even if it doesn't affect them.

    January 28, 2010 at 5:44 pm |

Healthcare is improving but if the wars were not being fought in Iraq and Afghanistan, the government would only be spending a fraction of the some 6 billion on the military.

in my opinion there should be a balanced amount of democrats and republicans. Taxes may be a very important factor in creating stimulus plans and health care reforms. there is just to much going on right now just to get some document signed!!!![it may be very important ...or is} what im saying is that we are in a war etc. i think everything needs a balance.

It's kind of like a funnel because when you pour a liquid into a funnel it needs to go in the big opening to pour out accurately rather than puring it in the narrow way and splashing all over. Similarly we have to first and foremost fix the economy, because then if we fix the economy everything else will flow smoothly.

I think that it should be your choice for what health care company/plan you have. It woud be a bad idea to have one health care plan because it doesn't help everyone; some people have a perfectly fine health care plan that they want to keep. But also, like my Social Studies teacher was explaining to us before, if there is only one business (the health care plan) then there will be no competion and no competion will mean that nothing gets better so the plan will never get better.

Why are we wasting time on the Health Care Reform? At this point it seems like everyone in government is blind! We NEED better economy. Health care affects a few people; however, the economy can effect a country, or even the world! The Republicans and the Democrats need to stop fighing over the Health Care Reform and start fighting for something better... THE ECONOMY OF THE US AND EVEN THE WORLD!

My social studies class has discussed this topic and i have been convinced that the way President Obama is trying to reform the economy is doing what The U.S.S.R did and pumping money in the economy does NOT WORK!!! Our economy is heading towards communist with his ideas and the counrty china is heading towards a market and Obamas idea is wrong and im glad that Democrats dont have the majority!!!! Im not republican.
