Football: A Girl's Dream
She's 13; she's played peewee football for eight years; she wanted (and got) a spot on the high school football squad. And she's a running back, which means she'll be taking some hits.
Guys: What would it be like to play alongside Carol Ray?
Gals: What would it be like to play on a guys' team?

I wouldnt mind playing with a girl on the team, i would just be scared for the other team being beat by a girl!
This 13 year old has some guts to play on a guys team. She is a very admirable figure and shows that if guys can do it, girls can too.
If she is really intelligent, then height and age are not problems. Diego Maradona is only about 160cm ! even if she is not good enough at the moment, with her great interest, she will success and become a perfect player sooner or later ! Nothing can stop a willing heart. I support her! 😀
I think that it would be very tricky to play on a guys' football team because guys hit hard and they're really competitive. Well, this girl may be awesome at football so I really cannot speak for her. I am a girly girl, so I would just get pounded in the dirt, but if this girl got a spot on the high school football team as a running back, then she is probably amazing. This girl who is thirteen is pretty impressive and I already admire and respect her. Also, she will most likely do well in high school football since she already got a spot so soon.
I think girls playing football is a good idea! If they want to play with guys, let them, if they dont, a girls football league would be pretty cool, and i think alot of girls would probably play!
To get to play along side of a girl in a contact sport shows that shes got guts and isn't afraid to get hit. It would be something to do for a football team.
Sports are for everyone, but certain sports should be played only by guys; especially if they are in a GUY'S league. Schools recognize equal opportunity, and to honor that they have created seperate seasons that evidently are designed to be played by athletes of different genders.
I think having a woman on the field amongst all the guys may make the game less competative, because the other players may be more inclined to just let her run by rather than tackle her in fear of injuring her.
Playing on the opposite team of her could be kind of intimidating simply because if she has the ball and you are a defender, it's your job to tackle her regardless if it bypasses all the rules you learn growing up about how you shouldn't hit a girl. It could though, definately work to her advantage, kind of like a competative edge.
To play with the guy's could be kind of de-feminizing. I mean I'm the traditional girly- girly, but an athlete and I still don't feel it be worth it for the guys to look at as no more than just another one of them. I mean who wants to date their bro?
It would actually be pretty fun to hit some of the guys. I mean the real muscular, cocky ones would get some humility out of having their faces shoved in the mud!
As a sports fan, I'm always ready to hear about the next big thing, and hey if it's about a beast female footballer, then send the press! The only real question now that must be made: Is she single????
I think that kids should be greatful that they can go to school. Some kids have to work on farms to help their family instead and never get a good education. We have to remeber that we are soon competing with Chineese students for jobs. They study harder and have a more solid education than students in the US
I think that it would be hard to play on a guy's team because we (girls) are trying to maintain a healthy figure while the guys are trying to be bulky so they can tackle and make a DENT!
Football is a contact sport for guys, not girls. If girls want to play sports theres vollyball, softball, and basketball. Let the boys have there own sport andlet the girls watch.
everyone is born equal. it's common and it's true, but as to some issues, people always ignore it. if she is just so curious about football(maybe a genius in it), why not? everyone deserves a chance to pursue her/his dream, so does her.
Last season I played football for my american high school, in Stuttgart, Germany. I was the Varsity kicker for our squad. This summer I went to an all boys 3 day overnight football camp and participated in all aspects of the game. As a sophmore girl, I'm excited for Carol Ray to play, and I would hope just the fact that its an all boys team wouldnt stop her. The experience I gained playing on an all boys team was irreplaceable, I loved it.
Football is for anyone. It doesn't matter what gender you are if you can take down a player, run with the ball, and pass. All that really matters is that the player stays fit.
Congragilations for her my friend Camryn plays football all the time and she's great! My motto is: girls can do anything guys can do but we can do it in high-heels! I dont think shes going to play in high heels though
I think it would be pretty cool to play on a guys' team if I was interested in football. Most guys think that girls can't do sports that they can like football, karate or sport where you normally get hit or are normally something that only guys play. However, we girls can't only play them, we an often beat the boys! You go girl!
I think that football is a sport that girls can enjoy also. Why should we discriminate against girls. whenever we discriminated in the past, it always ended bad. besides, girls can be good at football too, we just need to give them a shot
I'm a guy, too. But here(my school in Korea) don't have a line with girls and boys. So I think girls could play too^.~
I think I wouldn't like to play alongside a girl player because I would be uncomfortable hitting a girl on the field. I do think girls have the right to play on any team they want, just as guys should be able to play in girl-only sports at high school.
I think that she will make it to high school football because she seems good enough. If she does make it I will cheer her on.

I think it is only for guys because they can take hits a lot better than girls and when she plays high school football she will have a chance of dying because in that video that tackling wont work in high school! High school ball is a lot meaner, faster, and stronger guys wanting to kill someone. It just wont work for girls! So go and put your cheerleading uniform back on and cheer!
Ok, she may of done good in that little peewee league.. but in high school she is going to get killed by 200-300 pound high school people. In that peewee league she wasn't facing those people. Now she is in high school and she will get killed.... she going to get hurt and embarrass herself. She shouldn't go play high school football. Its not for her.

I think that girls should not play because then the boy would not want to hit the hard then when there do have a game that wont hit the other team hard. Because the did not hit hard in practice.

I don't think it should matter if a girl plays football, or any other sport that someone thinks only guys should play. Boys do things that some people think only girls should do. Besides, some girls are better than boys at football.
Football isn't only for guys. In my opinion, if guys can be cheerleaders then girls can be football players. If any school doesn't allow that, I would see it as discrimination of gender.

Football is not just a guys sport. Playign football on a guys team would be even better than a girls team because the guys actually play, and dont take it easy on anyone. On a girls team in gym or something the girls just sit their, where on a guys team they are all playing. I would like to be on a guys or co-ed football team in highschool.
I think that she should be allowed to play on the football team because you have your rights to play or do almost anything you want! It is a free country. I think the boys she plays with feel kind of weird tackling her because they do not want to hurt a girl. It would be different playing with a girl on your team, but cool at the same time.
I think it will be a little hard being the only girl on the team because when you take breaks, all the guys will talk about "guy things" and shell just have to sit there alone. But it is important to her and it doesnt matter and I think its great that she is going all the way to highschool with her dream.

It's also like a boy being on a cheerleading or gymnastics team. The sports is usually played by girls, but guys do it to. So a girl playing a sport that guys normally play, is basically the same thing as guys doing chherleading or gymnastics. And if there is nothing wrong with guys on those, then there shouldnt be anything wrong with her on the team.

i think that it isn't just a sport for guys, and that if girls want to play there should be a female league in high school. i dont think boys and girls should play together because a coach would probebly pick a boy over a girl if the boy because a boy generaly has better skills in football. but that might not be the cause for most girls but i still dont think they should play toghether.

Football...it's not just a guys sport! Girls and Guys are equal. Girls happen to be in the military, help run the country, and are even running for president. Girls are just as equal righted are guys! We have just as many rights as a guy!

I hope people start conxsidering the option of making a football team for girls.
I think it would be challenging, but also alot of fun. You would have to defend yourself often, and argue alot. But i think it would deffinetly be worth it.
To not let a girl play football is absurd. She has the right to play football, and if she is good enough and willing to give her all for the team, then by all means let her be on the football team.

To play on a boys team would be a great thing. Most boys say girls can't play football or girls can't play the same sports as guys because guys are so much stronger. Well the truth is that guys and girls can be just as strong as eachother. It just depends on the training you have. I look up to Carol becasue she proves that girls can play on a boys football team and have fun at the same time.

I think to play on a guy's team when you are the only girl would take a lot of courage, and if Carol is willing to do that then she is probably the type of girl that doesn't let anything stand in her way. Me, personaly, I wouldn't have the courage to play on a guy's team.... but no sport is only for guys.
I think girls should be able to play football. You cant hold a certain gender back for being diffrent than yourself.
I think it is right and wrong to have a girl on a football team, Because if she gets hurt or is badly injured on the team then she would feel like she had no chance playing football and would be kicked off the team or just have to take sometime off the team to have her injurys heal up.
The right thing about this is that she is showing that a girl can play football and its not just a guys only sport and she is trying to make other girls play football. So she is showing and becoming a role model to other girls around the world and is making her goal to were she can courage females to play this sport and shoe that they can do

I think that it was fair that she got a chance to play with girls and guys for pee-wee fotball,but, I think she should be on a only girls teem in high school because it may be unfair. I think that it may be unfair because fisically man/guys are heavier and have more muscle than girls do in the upperbody. But i also think it is a very good experience for her

I think that being a girl on a guys football team would be tough a first but then once u get settled, it will all fall into place. The guys might be against it, but you just have to give it some time.

I think that it is a great idea for girls to play football. I say this because it is a great idea to show other people that sports are not just for guys to play, it's for everyone. Another thing, is that you should not judge people by the sex. That is just not right. Finally, I think that people should not be judged by the way they play and how good or bad they are in a type of sport.

I would not mind to play on a football team with girls. Many schools in the county I live in do not allow girl students to play football with boy students. I do not think that this is right. People should not dicriminate girls because this can lead to discrimination towards other people in our country and we do not need that to happen again.

I think that Carol should be allowed to play on the guy's team as long as she has her coach'es approval. She should be able to try out whithout any discrimination or sexism. She should be tested as a human being and not based on her gender.

There shouldn't be a problem with a girl playing football if she can make the team. You have to try out like everyone else. Just because you're a guy doesn't mean you can play football and just because you're a girl doesn't mean you cannot. I'm sure she can be just as good, if not better, than the boys.
Personaly I don't think guys should be the only one's to be able to play football. The reason being they can do anyhting any guy can do some can do things better then most guys.

I think football is only for boys because girls are not as tuff as boys are. Boys can fight the pain and girls cant. . They are more stronger than us girls so i really think we should let the boys do football only. Because maybe when a boy tackle the girl she might get hurt and will cry because she cant suck up the pain because she is too hurt but a boy can handle it well most boys cab, So girls just let it go and let the boys have it. I think that football is anyone's sport. It can be very violent and painful, but if a girl is willing then she should be allowed to play. Football is a very interactive sport meaning that a lot of body contact is required. This means that it may be dangerous and people can get hurt but it is very fun to watch.

I think it would cool , becuase Carol showed the guys that girls are just as strong and fast as guys and could take a tackle and is not afraid of getting dirty. But it would be realy nice but i am more of a soccer person, but it is good that they would give girls a chance to show they can play too.

It would be really exciting playing alongside the guys in football. I might have to get tackled a couple of times, but thats part of the game and just because I'm a girl doesn't mean I can't take a hit.

I believe that both genders (male) and (female) should be aloud to play football, because every other sport can have both genders participate. If women or girls were not aloud to participate in sports then there would be outraged people around the world. It's fair and ok that women participate in sports.

I think she should be able to play football because it is here choice on what she want's to do. No other person should say she couldn't play. It is here decision and that is what she want's to do. I think it's fine for her to play football in peewee because she can't easily get hurt, but it would probably be bad for her in high school. I know that a lot of football players have died from concussions...if she got hurt it would be a lawsuit waiting to happen. With her playing with that position with a lot of hits, its a lawsuit waiting to happen.

I believe this because it is not fair to women to play among men, even if they believe they are equal. Then again if you've been playing the sport nearly your whole life it should be a breeze playing with the guys. As long as the coach allows the girls to be on the same team as the guys it shouldn't be too bad. It is weird for a girl to play a traditional male sport. It is going to be more trouble to make special arrangements for locker room and showers. She might miss out on some of the pre-game pow wows and things like that.

Playing on a guys' team would be very intimidating to me. If I were Carol I would scared to be injured by getting tackled, but then again it would be cool to be able to go to school the next day and tell everyone that you tackled a football player. For a girl to play on a guys team should have little difference than playing with girls but with some peoples view that High School Football is a guys sport, there are many challenges that a girl would face. A girl may get a hard time from guys or she may make some guy friends. It really depends on how well the guys accept her and if they are willing to cooperate with having a female on the team.

It wouldn't be too different than playing on a girl's team. The only difference that there might really be is the fact that girls tend to be a little smaller than guys. Despite this, they can be just as good, if not better, than the guys. In fact, I myself wouldn't mind playing on an all guys team if I were into sports.

I think it's great that Carol is able to play on the guys football team. it would be a challenge to play along side the guys. Some guys on the opposite team who probably hesitate to hit her if they knew she was a girl. Guys are usually more muscular than girls so it would hurt a lot more when you're hit. If more girls choose to play football, it might end up a girl sport.
I honestly don't know what it would be like. I, personally, have never liked most sports. I do, however, imagine that it would be quite the experience. I think I would most likely end quite bruised, as I have the habit of running my mouth, and she would most likely knock me out.
I said no because I've played on a team where there was another girl on that team. She looked very enthusiastic and i hope she gets what she drives herself for. She made the team through her perseverance and her knowledge of the game yes, she should be allowed to play. This is not a sexist planet so she can do what she feels and no one should hold her back from doing what she loves.

i think i would be a bit scared of the intimidation. after i got passed that i think i would have enjoyed the team. she is very brave about joining the team. i would be proud of myself because i would have the pride in knowing i did something not most girls do. girls are the same as guys just a little bit different therefore they should be able to compete in the same events or share the same team
I think it would be different to play alongside a girl. It could turn out good, or bad. She could turn out to be a star player and not be pushed around, or it could end badly. For example, if a guy gets injured during a football season (broken bone, pulled knee, ect.) it not that big of a deal, but say a girl gets hurt during the season, the one who accidentally hurt her would face probably a lot of negative attention. The situation is tricky. All together I at least wouldn't like to be the one to have to tackle her.
I don't believe that football is only for guys. Im a high school girl and football is my favorite sport to watch and play. I think that its not any different if a girl is playing on your team than if a guy was. If i were to play football on a guys team i think it would be fun. I think i would enjoy myself.
I think that the girl could play on a guys team but playing on a high school team is going to be harder than playing on a peewee team. As a girl to be on a football team, at first it would be weird. The reason why is because so many girls are discouraged about playing football. Football should be known as a co-ed sport, not just a male sport many people take it as.

I don't think girls should play football. It is too rough and relies too much on how strong someone is. Plus if i had to tackle her or was on her team I would feel uncomfortable. She's also a running back which might be the toughest position to play.

Football is one of my favorite sports. I'm not afraid to hit or get hit; the other guys aren't afraid to hit me. I'm as strong and as fast as most of the guys in my class. But they won't let me play. This is a major social problem that needs to be fixed.
I think that girls can play football just like us guys but I don't think they should play on the same team as boys. I think that there should be girl teams. The only problem though is that there aren't enough girls that want to play to make a whole league or team. It is very difficult having to play sports against a girl especially the older you get. I also wrestle and I absolutely hate having to wrestle a girl. Their bodies are different so its kinda weird. Also I noticed that boys dont' do their best against a girl as they do against another boy.

I believe that all sports should be available to all genders. there shouldn't be any distinction between 'guy sports', and 'gril sports'. for instance, volleyball, tennis, and cheerleading are generally considered girl sports, while football, baseball, and hockey are considered guy sports. this has caused schools like mine to have a guy only: hockey team, football team, and baseball team. I , even though i'm a guy, love volleyball. yet my school has a girl only volleyball team. somethigns gotta change so everyone is considered equal and able to play all sports.

I absoloutely love this girl! i've complained a lot to my dad about how they don't have co-ed sports teams like hockey and football. I'm sure some guys think girls are more 'vulnerable' or whatever. Well, girls can run faster and kick higher than they can, and plus, some of the jerks need a girl to teach them humility- and acceptance. As a martial artist, i see and work with both guys and girls everyday in karate. i see no difference in performance!

It's not impossible, and the girls can choose what they want to do. Boys can participate in ballet, so why can't girls play football?!?! The disadvantage is, in football, there is tackling, so maybe, it might be too violent for them. Also, in my school, there are after school sports activities, like volleyball, crosscountry (running) , soccer, etc. but both girls and boys can participate in any activities.

I also went out for my school team, and made it. i only lasted two months because of the lack of support from my male teammates. they always alienated me, never encouraged what i could do. I'm here to say ALL girls deserve the right to play football, and should get the same respect that guys do for playing this sport.

I think that girls should be participate with guys no matter what the sport is. If were good enough then why not let us live our dream,we let the boys live theirs so why cant we live outs?

I don't think having a girl on a guys football team is a big deal. It would be really awkward for me playing on a guys team because of the locker rooms and whatever. It would be really weird too cause I'm sure a lot of the guys would give you mean looks. If the girl is more of a tom-boy type, I don't think it would be awkward. But for someone like me it would be really weird.
I'm happy this girl got a chance to play football because it sounds as if she really loves football!
To all you boys who say girls are scared or afraid of getting their manicures ruined; that's not even accurate! For some girls it might be but not for others. If this girl has been playing football for EIGHT years, I'm pretty sure she knows not to get a manicure while football is in season. WOW.
I think that it is a good idea for her to be palying football to show everyone else just that you dont have to only play on the sport that they tell you too.

I know a lot of guys who wouldnt want a girl on the team, so then why can't there be a girl's football team. Theres tons of girls out there that would love to play football as a sport and I think they should have a chance to play.
I think that it is good that a girl is taking interest in guy sports. I do not know why football can only be a mans game, girls are equal if not tougher than most of the men. As long as Carol Ray comits herself to the game, I think that it is fine that a girl plays football. I hope that she gets a scholarship. Play hard, and keep setting a good example.
I think that its ok for girls to play with the guys, they just have to be able to take the hits, i think it would be a little different for the guys at first because they wouldn't know how hard to hit and things like that.
OF COURSE NOT!!! I think that football is not only for boys and men. I think it is a family sport, but not all girls wan to be a football player, cause most girls go for cheerleading. Not that any thing is wrong with that I just think Football should be open for girls and women too.
I don't have a problem with it, except that guys might be too afraid to hit them as hard as they normally would. So they have to be able to take a hit. If they are good at football, why not play it?
I deffinatly would not like playing with a girl on the team. It would be really weird to go tackle a girl because girls don't really play that kind of rough stuff. I don't think football is at all a girls sport because there is too much hitting and it would seem to me like they would get hurt a lot.

I think that if a girl can get a spot on the high school football team then she is a great athlete. I respect that she knows what it takes to work hard to get where she wants to be on the team. I know how that feels because I competed for the same spot on my team and got it. It takes a lot of hard work and committment and some skill. Getting a spot on the team at such a young age obviously shows that she has all of that. I hope that she and her team have a good season this year.
I think that it would be really hard to play on a boys football team, but i think that if you grew up playing with them then it would not be as hard and much different.
