The Mojave Desert doesn't sound like a setting for national controversy, but a cross that's been there for 75 years is now being considered by the U.S. Supreme Court. In the report you see on Tuesday, those who say the monument is a religious symbol argue that it shouldn't be allowed on government property, while those who say it's a historic memorial argue that it should stay right where it is.
What do you say?
Carl Azuz, Anchor
I think the cross should stay in place. It is a religious symbol but it's also supposed to be honering people. I think the cross should stay where it is.
I think that the government have no right to move or do anything about the monument. If it's been there since 75years before now, that can be considered a history doesn't it?(well, sort of...) and they shouldn't change that. There are more than one case of people ruined objects or things because they didn't keep their nose where they belonged. Just let it be and everything will be okay.
If the people who planted it there had asked for permission before, I might've asked them to place it somewhere else, but it's there already. I think they should just leave it at that. The government has more important and severe things to deal with. Respect our veterans; maybe next time in an area that would cause less controversy, but what's done is done. There's no point in arguing over that.
If the government is not allowed to establish a religion, I think by taking down the cross they are establishing that Christianity is not the religion.
It is sad that the beloved veterans and their fallen comrades who have shed their blood and guts for this country are now under attack and forced to fight one more time to preserve their tradition and their honor. This time, though, the enemy that they fight are not the dictators of the past century but the people in their own backyard who have forgotten about them. The very people who now enjoy the freedom that the veterans have fought so hard to keep. Ironic. And this aclu {this does not deserve to be capitolized} is getting out of hand. Are they going to take all the crosses out of Arlington Cemetry. Aren't all those crosses on government property?
I think that it should be allowed to stay in the desert, since a lot of people place crosses outside and they aren't ever tried in jury or have the crosses boxed up.
The cross is Christian but if it were a Muslim symbol it would not have any controversy. If there were controversy, it would people saying that they should be able to put more stuff up, but since it is the cross, we are the ones considered racist. It was put there for the veterans by the veterans, so it should stay. It should stay exactly where it is!
Even though the memorial is on government property, I feel that they should leave the cross there because it has been there for 75 years. I just don't get why all of a sudden now the government is taking action when they should have taken action a long time ago. I think they should leave the cross because it is a memorial to our troops that fought for our country. Whoever wants the cross moved are disrespecting our fallen troops because that is our symbol of sorrow for our troops.
I think the memorial should stay where it is. If they want, they can put any other memorial there like the Star of David.
I think its wrong and write at the same time.
yeah it should be write where it is because the monument is a historic memorial so it wouldnt be fair to people if it was moved
I think that the cross in the Mojave Desert should not be taken away, because it has already been there for 75 years and it symbolizes the vertens and nothing in a religious matter.
I think that the cross is not that important, but some people are not that religon and the cross might make other people upset exspecially if it is on public land. So for other people's rights, they should take the cross away.
This cross does not push people towards a religion. People can worship anyone and anything. The cross is a memorial for veterans and should stay that way.
i think it should stay right where it is because this guy fought in world war 1 and died. it doesnt matter the religion , he died so that all of us americans can win. he is a TRUE veteran
i think the cross should be aloud to stay were it is standing because we need to show respect for the people who fought for us and died for us but to take it form were they put it. it’s a shame if they take it form them, they should keep it there.
I think that the cross should stay right where it is. It is special and where it is at is fine. Why go through all the trouble of moving than to leave it right where it is. It is important to certain people. So I think that the cross should be left alone for peole to see in the Mojave Desert.
I don't think the government should intervene here. The cross, which was placed as a historical memorial honoring veterans, does not "establish a religion." The Supreme Court should consider the context of the "Establishment Clause." The drafters of the Constitution were concerned about having a state-run religion (like the Church of England), not a symbol of a religion in the Mohave Desert.
I think that they should leave the cross in the desert. It has been there for 75 years and they want to move it. It is a historical monument. So you shouldn't move some important from history. It has been very important to remember our religon . So I think it should stay for as long as time, because it is about their religion so why would you move it? Would you move the statue of liberty? No, because it is a historical monument.
i say it should stay, it has been there for 75 years. If it wasn't taken down before, why should it be taken down now?
I think that people should leave this alone. The landmark is not harmful to any body. Its not even considered a religous landmark any more. Its just a historic landmark people should mind their own dumb business people just dont have any thing better to do. Well, that's my opinion u dont like it to bad.
After much discussion our class came to the conclusion unanimosly that the cross should be looked at as an historical landmark and should be permitted in the Mojave Desert.
Carl, I think that it is ridiculous that something like a simple cross in the desert would start a case that might go to the supreme court. The cross is not a religious symbol, but a memorial of all of the soldiers that fought, and either died or got injured while fighting for the safety of our country. There should be not reason to take it down.
I think the cross should stay there. It was not meant for religious purposes but for the soldiers that created our history.
i think that the cross should be left alone...it has been there for quite some time why take it down now? It obviously means something and has a purpose and i think that we should just leave it alone...It is a memorial...
I think that the cross should be able to stay where it is. It's a memorial, memorials aren't supposed to be moved once they are placed. I think that would be VERY disrespectful. The people that have a problem with it should just deal, nobody is making them look at it.
I dont think its a culture cross, just out of say to honer the vets i think the cross should stay.
The cross shouldn't be taken down because it serves as a reminder of our fallen troops and war veterans who have fought for our country.
I think that if the monument is a religious symbol and has been there longer than the government wanting anything to do with the land and space. I think that the government is wrong and should leave leave it be. I also think that the government can buy ay land and they want to take some that has holy statues with value.
Maybe it should say if the people put it there then leave it there
Freedom of Religion is the first of our rights as citizens of the United States. The US Constitution is the law that governs this country, and the government can't overrule it. The fact that the government wants to tear down a monument built BY the veterans because they think the VETERANS might be offended is just rediculous anyway.
I think that they should leave it where it is. If it were some other historic monument they would leave that where it is even if it is on government property. So why not leave this on there. i mean seriously it is out in the desert, honestly how many people see it. Just leave it there it should not be a big problem it is not bothering anybody.
I think that the cross should remain where it is. Not only is ita tribute to the the veterains, but its been there since the memorial has been there. Its historical significance, and if the government doesn't like it, then they should have said something when it was made.
I think who cares about the little cross? Just leave it be, some veterans put it up a long time ago and it was fine, so just leave it. Eventually it'll fall over or something. It's just a cross. Maybe someone could go put one of their religious symbols up and that would create equality. The government should not forcefully have it taken down... The land of the free?
It really doesn’t matter where you put it. Because really the government shouldn’t do that because that is just wrong to say that you don’t want the cross on government property. It really shouldn’t matter where they put it because it is just a cross. I mean it’s not going to hurt anybody if they do put it on government property.
I think that this has gone way overboard they have never complained before! I think that the cross may be religious for some but for others its means that you served well and that you completed your task. I think that they should leave the cross where they put it. The argument with the 10 commandments is unbelievable that is more religious than the cross they are just trying to find excuses to get rid of religious freedom in America.
I don’t really think that it should be taken down. It was put there as a memorial for veterans and not a religious one. So therefore there is no reason it should be taken down. It could mean a lot to some people who are veterans our who have family members who are veterans.
if its been there for SEVENTYFIVE years, why change it now? it was not placed there for a religious purpose, there for it has no religious value. honestly, i think that somebody got bored and wanted something to complain about. it doesnt affect the way anyone's day runs, so honestly i think that taking it to U.S. Supreme Court is unnecessary and slightly ridiculous.
i think it should be able to stay because, honestly. who is it hurting? NOBODY. it's there because the people wanted to honor the fallen soilders and give thanks to the veterans that did make it. why should it be moved when really the purpose of it is merely good? if y'all remove it, they will just put another back up. maybe not in the exact location, but it will go back up no matter what you do. you might as well keep it.
I believe it should stay where it is. it hasn't and won't really bother anyone. it is a war memorial not a religious symbol. it could be argued either way but it is supposed to be a war memorial. That is like saying any religious symbol any ware should be taken down.
I think that this is a very stupid controversy! Why would you take down a memorial? That is just disrespectful for the people that it honors. The government doesn't take down historical findings anywhere else just because it MIGHT have a religious meaning as well. The MEMORIAL should be preserved, it is a part of our history and the memorial graveyards for soldiers have not been taken down, and probably never will, even though they are crosses. I don't think that this should have even brought up it is just another stupid debate that someone thought might "bother someone" (even though it hasn't for 75 years.), when really they were probably just trying to draw attention to themselves.
Leave it alone !!! Again they are trying to take over some of our frrdom. If they don't like it leave our country!! I wish thst's all i had to do was pick at penny anney stuff.
its a symbol for the veterans to remember them, no one should be allowed to move it, it would be dishonorable
i think they should leave it their. dose it bug anybody is it in somebody's way.
i think they should keep that peace with the people and keep it there and they should not move it and i think that they should not at all move it because the government should keep the peace and thats what they should
We believe that moronic lawyers with nothing better to do than argue over a memorial in the desert is exactly why america is going down hill . The nation focuses on non-important issues rather than trying to fix whats truly wrong such as the economy and the wars in the middle east. People are too busy trying to get their names in the paper and dont even care about the issue. Thus Mr. Johnson's government/economic class does not support removing the memorial cross.
I don't know why people take the time out to argue such stupid points. The cross has been there for a long time and it symbolizes the world war one veterains. People should just deal with it and stop trying to change things because of their selfishness.
My opinion is if it is a historical thing that happen with the troopers of War War one then most people would say let it stay their because it's been their for how many years. But it could offend people because not everyone has christian faith. So it's good that they will let the court decided.
I think they should leave It there. Because It mens something to someone and the court has no right to take their religion away.
I think they should keep the cross up because even though some people think it is religiously offensive, it is like saying they are offended by the veterans that fought to make the United States a better country.
I think they should keep the cross on that desert it’s almost like forgetting the people who once almost saved our lives so we should not forget them they are heroes and the fact that the government wants to take control of that place is wrong its like a disgrace to them
yes i agree with that
i say yes i agree with that
I think the cross should go. Many of the dead soldiers didn't have to do with the cross. Also, it is private so it should be kept private. If it's public, some people might get offended.
As long as it is a military memorial and not a religious memorial than it should stay where it is. Veterans deserve to be memorialize.
I think that people have the right to honor veterans anyway they like. However, they should only be allowed to do it on their property. So I think that the cross should be moved to the caretakers' land.
This is stupid our country was founded on the principles of Christianity. When the founding fathers said that religion and country should be seperated they meant to not have it like Great Britain where the government controls the church. I think it is perfectally right for the Cross to be there like it has for the last seventy years. They are honoring those veterans, as they should be.
The cross should be taken down. The Government should follow the first amendment which says that congress shall not recognize any single religion.
In my opinion, i think the cross should stay right where it is. Our country was founded on religion. So why, now would we take religion(God) out of our country when so many natural disasters are happening and we need him the most. If you look around a new disaster or debate is coming everyday. Through wild fires, flooding, tsumamis, and hurricanes our country is falling. In the Bible it states that in the end-times(when Jesus will come back), such events like these will happen. What if our country falls, Jesus comes back, where will you be going? This really scares me that so many people are wanting to take Jesus out of our country, where would we be without Him? The flag should stay, and so should Jesus, in our schools, work, anywhere we are. Pray for the people of this country, their minds, the ways we treat each other. The way christians should act. I love the USA and so does Jesus. Let freedom ring. Freedom of religion.
Since it has been there so long its hould just stay. It is a memorial for Petes Sake
I am divided because veterans are very important, but our country has many religions. Maybe is should be moved to a veteran museum.
I think it should stay there because its been there for 75 years.
I think the gov should keep the cross.
I believe that the cross should stay just because its a memorial symbol not a religious thing. If it was just strictly for religion then I would say then it should be in a debat if they should take it down or move it.
Even if the cross does contain a religious connotation why is that any reason to remove it? Sure there are veterans who aren’t Christian and do not find the cross acceptable for their faith but is that any reason to take it down? Just add a symbol for them.
I think that the Mojave Desert Veteran’s Cross ought to stay. It is a symbol honoring our veterans, and I should be taken as nothing more than that. Sure it has religious implications, but nearly everything now does, and that’s what our country was built on, freedom of religion and the expression of it.
I believe that the cross should stay up. It has been there for so long and the people who put it up have a right to do with it as they please. I understand that it is on government property, but is it really doing anything bad just standing there? It really is up to the Supreme Court to decide what is going to happen.
i think that if its been there for 75 years then you need to leave it there
This cross has been around for some 75 years and never cause anyone any greif, so why not keep it? The Government focus's on to many things that dont greatly affect our country rather than things that do!
I think it should stay up because it is a monument more than a religious symbol. I think the only reason people are fighting against it is because they don't have any respect for other people.
I think the cross should be taken down. Yes it is set up for veterans and not meant to send a religious message, but what if it does. There are other ways to honor the veterans. They could set up a veteran’s memorial park or something in that nature, but yes i do think if they keep it that it will show he government trying to promote a particular religion.
I think it should stay up because it is a symbol of religion to others . or mabey take a vote with the society. Because its not just one mans opinion. That is a good symbol to me But see thats just my opinion, its all in what you believe in.
The momument does not force or give an idea of making people be religious. the cross has taken a symbol of death and remebrance. when i see one on the side of the road, i think about a family loosing a loved one, not about anything to do with religion. they need to keep the momument up, not in remembrance of religion, but in remebrance of the veterans and those that gave their lifes for our freedom.
I think this is quite silly. I think people are just trying to be difficult and have an excuse to argue about and do all those things. The cross has been up since like the 1930’s and no one has put a problem, and now that there are more important things to worry about, we worry about a nice gesture for all of those who have fought for this country.
It is a peice of wood in the middle of the desert why should we even care if it is there. The people that put it there have a good reason for it being there. If it was me that put it there I would fight tooth and nail for it to stay. People need things to remind them of those who have ben lost, this cross is their way remembering them.
The United States was based on the freedom of religion and it’s in our first amendment in the bill of rights. In our pledge it states “One nation, under God” and on our money it says “in God we trust”. God is everywhere in both spiritual and physical use of the term. The veterans put that cross up there. They had the opportunity of choosing whatever they wanted. Heck they could put up a statue of Carl Azuz but they chose a cross.
If it's been there for so long, why bring up such a case now?
I think that it is a small monument in the middle of a vast desert, it is barely visible and this is more about the "principle or separation of church and state" than the actual monument. Leave it be!
Like it or not, Christianity is a part or our nation's history. It is still a huge part of our culture today. I will never understand why people, mainly from the West Coast, feel like they have to eliminate any evidence of faith in America. Get over it and allow a few people the right to remember the historic faithful fighters of our freedoms.
I think they should not take the cross down. I strongly believe this because it wasn't meant to be a religious thing. It was meant as a memorial. Have a heart, PLEASE do not take that cross down!
why should it be put down if the doiiar bills say in god we trust.
The Constitution says Congress shall make no law establishing a religion. This monument was placed by a private citizen, not the Congress. It is not a violation of the Constitution and should stay put.
if they want to remove a religous symbal from state property then would'nt they have to discard the symbal ( in god we trust ) on our nations doller bill.
In my 2nd period class that has 10 poeple that say just leave it. because it is not hurting anyone and it is to represents the fallen veterans. so why move it there is no reason to.
Heck they could put up a statue of Carl Azuz's corney jokes but they chose a cross. So lets keep it that way.
I feel that the cross in the desert should be left because it is a tribute to fallen soldier's, not a religious symbol.
I think that this should be perfectly fine. Anyone who thinks it is "unconstitutional" think about what this cross was erected for. This was put up in honor of the people that fought for our country. Do you not want to honor the people that give you your freedom you have today? Without them we wouldn't even be writing in this blog. We would still be under Britain, without the constitution, and without freedom of speech. I think that this cross should stay as it is, in the Mojave, for generations to come to honor our dead who gave us this wonderful country we have today.
I dont think they should take it down that so been ignorant it for the falling solider that lost they life for them.
Our sixth grade class believes that it should stay because it's more of a tribute rather than a place of worship. Having it be a memorial, is a place to honor those that are being remembered, It's been there for 75 years, why make it an issue now.
save the people that live in the desert
well i think that they need to let the man that died for us to be at home and not in the wrong .we just need to let them rest in peace like thats all i think need 2 be done but iam only one student.
I say that it should not be up to the supreme court to decide that but instead the people that live there. If most of they said not to take it down the supreme court should respect that. But know if most of them said is creepy them out and want to take it out they, should. I said let the people decide.
I would say that the monument shouldn't be a religious symbol
because it's been there for 75 years, and people say thats its historic.
Hi Carl, I think the U.S Supreme Court should not make any charges against this cross. If the property actually belongs to someone and the person who had bought would have already known the cross was there. Also, the person who may now own this land in which the cross is on, could have complained about a long time ago, but since they have'nt, then the U.S Supreme Court should not do anything about it and leave it there. It is a symbol of a religion and should not be judged. After all, The United States does grant religious freedom. Thank you.
it should stay because its only purpose is to honer veterans
I think the cross should stay there because it was put there to honor veterans
I think that they should just leave the cross there, it's not like it's hurting anybody. I don't get why they are making a big deal about the cross now, i mean it has been there for 75 years, and they pick now to argue about it, it really isn't that big of a deal and I don't really think it would make a difference if it was there or if it wasn't there, so they should just get over the cross and move on with there lives!!
I think that the cross should stay where it is.
I think they shouldn't do any thing to it because they should have a place to honor veterans and pray for those that are at war instead of getting it removed.
I think that it is a historical mark, it should not be moved just for that one good reason. It should not be up for debate, if you want to settle the problem then all you have to is take the wooden box off the christian cross sign and you can also put other religious symbols. Another way to settle peace in this country is to put it in another populated place.
I think that the cross should stay where it is
I believe that this argument is completely unsubstantial. This cross was set up by a WWI veteran, for all veterans, past and present. The fact is that ' it is a cross, set up by a man of religion' doesn't prove that it is for a religious purpose. The cross simply is the most recognizable memorial symbol. Also, because it is not a symbol of religion, but that of a symbol for the memorial for veterans set up by a veteran, it should remain as such. Therefore this is not a symbol of religion, but moreover a symbol of a man who wanted his friends that he had lost, and all veterans who had served and had been lost in battle, to be remembered as what they were; great and heroic men.
Hi I think they should keep that there cause it been there long enogh to be called peristoric.
I think that since the main religion in America is christianity and that's basically the symbol for it then it should be allowed to stay up. If we went to Iraq and they had a symbol for their religion that was up they wouldn't tear it down.
I could see this argument from both sides. There is the religious side that wants it taken down and the veterans that want it to stay up. I think that it should stay up because it commemorates the veterans of foreign wars. The side that wants it taken down seems kind of pointless to me even though it is in the constitution.
I think they should keep it there because it is honoring the veterans for protecting the country.
I think they should just leave the cross there. It isn't harming anyone, or causing a problem. If it has been there for 75 years and hasn't been considered a negative thing until now then it must not be that much of a problem. It's a symbol for the people that live there and it means a lot to them to have it. Taking it down will cause more problems than just leaving it there.
This cross is an honor to our veterans in all wars. It would not be right to tear something down that has value to soldiers. The supreme court should not tear it down because of it's historical centimental value.
I think that the cross should remain where it is. It is not a religious symbol. It is being used to represent all of the veterans. If it hasn't done any harm to anyone for as long as it has been there, then it should be able to stay in that spot.
Keeping that monument there is the right thing to do. Not only is it to honor the veterans, but the veterans were the ones who placed it there and for a reason, obviously. Just because there is a cross on there doesn't necessarily mean that it is meant to be known and seen as a religious monument. Keep it there. It’s been there for a long time and its part of many people's history.
I think they should leave the cross right
were it is because it's a historical
artifact and it has been here for 75 it's
a symbol of religion and and dedicated
to the fallen soilders of all the wars
we've ever fought
The cross should not be there and they should move it of the rock and take it somewhere else.
I think that it should stay up and support the veterans. I think people are seeing it as a religious stunt but its not, it is supporting the people that have been protecting us and the ones that have died trying. So it should stay, but I think it should say something like, “thank you veterans” not just a cross.
It represents the veterans; therefore it is not a religious symbol. It's more of just showing something that's important to represent the importance of our veterans. It’s not like they are asking people to worship it or pray to it, just let them keep it up there for all to see.
I think that it is stupid for the United States government to be so easily swayed by the people. The cross is a historic memorial and a religious symbol, but if people of other religions are going to be offended as easily as seeing another religious symbol out in a desert then they need to grow a backbone. All of the three major religions have ONE god, the same god, the only difference is how we see him. Grow some backbone people!
In my opinion I believe that the symbol could be classified as a historical by some but in reality is an obvious symbol of the Christian religion. Look at the world war two monuments in Washington D.C. It soundly represents those who lost their lives but at the same time does not show any religious symbols. They either need to move it and set it up with a new generation of veterans or make another memorial like the WW2 memorial. They need to set something that honors veterans but does not show religion in any way.
Why would they want to take a sign down that’s been there for 75 years. Just leave it where it belongs.
I think it should stay because it has been there for so many years and it means a lot to the people who see it. I also think it should stay because what is it hurting if it there. Its out in the Mojave desert so who really cares if it is there. It also think that if it is there for the veterans than it should stay because the veterans fought hard for our country and need to be remembered.
I think the cross should remain. While it is arguably a religious symbol it has been there for 75 years and I cannot see why that should change now. It is clear that the United States is partial to a religion, why else is Christmas the only federal holiday with a religious affiliation? If this cross/memorial is to be removed then why not also remove Christmas’ status as a federal holiday? I’m just sayin’…
I think that if it's been there for 75 years then it should stay there. It doesn't matter if it's on government property, its been there for a long time and why do they want to take it off now.
Why is this all of a sudden an issue now i mean it has been their for 75 years. Taking it down would be pointless. Even though it is government property they should leave it. Their are crosses every where this one just has a little bit more meaning for veterans.
The cross was put in the desert in respect of the veterans. Christianity may not be the religion of some of the veterans but that does not mean it should be taken down. The opposition feels that it is disrespectful to their beliefs. Wouldn't tearing down the most important symbol of Christianity be disrespectful. Freedom of religion means the freedom to practice and support a religion. It does not mean the freedom from religion.
I think that there should not be a problem if someone wants to make a monument then go ahead I thought that its in the Bill of Rights then it Should be allowed.
I think the people are making a big deal out of nothing. I think the cross should stay up. sure it's on government land but its a memorial for crying out loud. it should stay up end of story.
I think that it should stay up and support the veterans. I think people are seeing it as a religious stunt but it’s not. It is supporting the people that have been protecting us and the ones that have died trying. So it should stay but, I think it should say something like, “thank you veterans” not just a cross.
I think that since the cross was put up privetly and not by the goverment that it should not be an issue at all. Also if a Muslim, Jewish, or any other veteran with another religion wants to put up a momument then they can no one is stopping them. Also don't people swear on the Bible in court and say "Under God" in the pledge? This should not even be and issue.
i think it should stay
I think it should be allowed to stay, because it's just a memorial, people should realize the cross has been around longer then christianity
Its government property, they can do as they wish. Its a cross, its religious. I myself am not religious, but I don't like the government , point being, religion-property-government=there choice!
i feel that it should stay there.
i think that they should keep it there because it show how the troops died for us.
I think that the government should keep the cross should were it is.
It's history!!
Seriously if they let it stay there for 75 years, then why is it suddenly a problem?
I think that the cross should stay. It dosn't have to do with religious beliefs, it is a landmark. It has been there for 75 years and hasn't hurt anything until now.
I think if it's a memorial, that the cross should stay there! But even if that's not the case it's not hurting anything.
I think that this is unjust to all of the veterans in wars. I am a catholic and feel that this has nothing to do with religion at all, but to honor all of the veterans and those who lost their lives for this country.
This cross should be kept high in its original place. It was put there for the men and women who fought and are currently fighting for our freedom (something some countries wish they had). America was founded on God and that is the way it should remain. If anyone has a problem with the cross, simply don't look at it. No one is forcing you to look at it and admire it.
i think that the cross should stay there. its part of there religeon amd why should the govern care. if they want to reconize their veterains then they can.
i think it should stay cause it was made for the rembrance of the soldiers who died for peac, rights , justice for jesus who died on the cross, for some peoples religion eight they are some type of christian or catholic i guess, and cause of the brithish i guess who destroyed our old religion symbol.Besides I like it I also think that for some reason americas old president let it be build and everyone agreed with it to be made as well.
Mr.Menlove's government class unanimously agrees that the cross should be allowed to stay where it was originally placed. And if you don't like it, you should look the other direction.
Honestly, I don't think they should take it down or get rid of it because of how it's kind of a salute or a sign of respect to the veterans and it just woudn't be right.
I think the cross should stay there
i think that if the cross is on the goverment land, then it should be moved. but i also say that it was but there by veterans, and it should stay there. its a hard one to decided, but i think that they should leave it where it is because they say that it is not a cathloic sign. so i think that they sould leave it where it is... only if it is a sign for the veterans.
I think the cross should stay because they want to support the veterans that have died. Maybe they could ask the government if they could buy that little piece of land from them?
why is everybody making a fuss over a ton of sand?
The cross should stay because many people believe in God. If they take away this cross, then the next thing will be crosses on the sides of roads or even cemeteries ( like in Arlington)?
keep it up. It's a monument, would you take down Christ the Reedemer in Brazil?
Personaly, with religon, I think everyone has a right to practice whatever religon they want, they can talk about, say that they believe in that, but I don't think they should push there religons on others. It should stay, it's important to a lot of people, and I mean, it's not hurting anyone right?
I think it is unfair for them to board up the cross just because it can be seen as religious. I think that they should be able to explain that it is in honor of the US veterans and that will be good enough to be able to keep it up. If they have a good reasons for putting up a symbol like that, I think that it should be allowed to stay up on that hill for the citizens to see that family is remembering and respecting the veterans that gave their lives for our country.
I think it is unfair for them to board up the cross because it can be more than just a religious symbol. The cross has been around for longer than Christianity so I think it should stay since it is up just to be respectful to those people who lost their lives for our country.
I believe the cross should stay. It was put there many years ago. It is not there to try and get someone to believe in their religion. It was placed there to remember those who fought for our country, gave their lives for this country. It is a memorial.
i think that the cross should stay there since its been there for 75 years already. why wasnt the government interested in it before?
it cant just be a symbol it has to be more of that Because what if the sing broke you would have nothing to worship for.
I believe that the cross shouldn't get taken down. I think it brings history when people see it and it seems like a powerful cross to keep.
Seriously? Are we seriously having a problem with this? Not only is it a religious thing is but it also honors all of the vetrans. Just keep it up. There's no harm in having it there, and besides we're supposed to have freedom of religion. So it shouldn't matter if it's there or not.
I think that it is silly that the goverment is making a big fuss over a
small little memoral that a small little family put up to honor our troops.
It is silly that the goverment is making a huge fuss over a tiny memoral.
It's been there for 75 years.. It's a historical sight. Why take it down after so many years??? Totaly insane
I think that it should stay up because it is sign of religon to people and taking it down would be taking down religion.
The cross should be able to stay there because it is a veteran memorial even if its on goverment proporty because those veterans shed thier blood. It's supposed to be representing them and what they gave to there country. Plus it's not hurting or offending anybody.
I don’t see the problem with having a cross up in the desert. They aren’t forcing their religion onto anyone. I don’t see how having this crossed displayed could do any harm. And if is to be taken down, why are we allowed to have churches in every city across the country? They are religious symbols are they not? They are in public places and have more influence on people than this one cross, in the middle of nowhere, that is set up as a veterans’ memorial and not as a religious symbol. I just think that the government is over reacting like they normally do.
wow. really guys? why is everybody making a big deal about it. i think having the cross there is a great idea. if they want it and they own the land, ITS THEIR CHOICE!!! Its respectful for the veterans that died for US!! leave it alone
I do not think that they should cover up the cross, that is disrespectful to the World War I Vetarans that died serving for this country. Also our contry is supposed to support relegious freedom.
this debate is just plain stupid. no matter what religion you are or if you have a religion at all a cross is a sign of respect for the fallen. you see crosses all across memorials for soldiers and this is no different. it seems to me as if the people who say that the cross should be moved have no respect for those who have died so that we can sleep in peace at night and what they have accomplished
I think that it is important to keep thwe cross up to honor our veterans. I don't think it is religious, just a way of showing our gratitude to the heroes of war. The cross doesn't just represent Christianity. It is a symbol of honor and pride. Why change that?
Okay first of all there is a right we have called freedom of religion. If someone doesn't like that cross then don't look at it, it's that simple. And it is a historic figure which has a lot of beautiful history behind it. Why would we want to tear it down if it hasn't given much trouble over the course of 75 years. In South America they aren't tearing down Christ the Redeemer in Rio De Janeiro because it has Jesus on it. Secondly what people think is important but the majority of the people in America want that cross to stay right were it is. Doesn't majority rule? I hope that cross stays right were it is because now it's not just a sign of religious rights, it's also a sign of freedom!
I don't get why the goverment is making a big deal. They're are other relgious symbols like necklaces or the relgious string that some people of the Indian relegion wear. we are not forcing them to stop that so whats the big idea. If you have somthing against Christianty that is like being racest about a certain relegion. If you think about it Litttle things like these (no relegious freedom) could lead to a nations downfall. If little things attack the big structure eventually it will fall whether we like it or not, but we should try to fix it while we still have the chance. The next thing could be freedom of speech, or whats alredy here, the ability to own a handgun. The police do not stay at your house wating on you hand and foot coming to your rescue every time there is something wrong. If someone was going to kill someone you loved, would you wait for the ploice when it was to late or would you take the shot.(that could be taken physically and metaphorically.) What happens if terrisim increases? We need something to protect ourselves. I hope who ever is reading this takes this into consideration and really looks at it on a second level not just on the surface.
I think they should keep it were it is because they are giving their veterans there respect by building that cross.
I really think the cross should stay in place. It honors the veterans who fell in World War I. Taking down the cross, in my opinion, means the same as sabotaging and vandalising the graves of every veteran who fought in WW1. It is NOT forcing christianity into anyone! It's been put up 75 years before, and it'll stay up there for much longer. I mean, seriously! This is HISTORY! It is a landmark, a memorial, not just a conspicious cross! The cross is standing in the middle of a desert, because it was MEANT to be there! To honor all the veterans!
i think that the cross should stay there because it honors those lives that were lost and citizens want to remember them.
I think they should keep the cross because it resembles our troops that went to war. The government it over reating. If some people dont like the cross then they should forget about it. Its not their bussiness.
Ok, I see there is lots of controversy over this memorial, if they dont like it, dont look up there... if they take this down then soon thet will take down the wall of war veterens, then the Statue of Liberty, Well what im trying to say is we cant take it down. I once heard a story about a country called the U S A and in the U S A we always honored our war veterans. I think in our pledge it says... "One Nation Under GOD" Shocker isnt it? You have heard my opinion
If it is very important to many people then I don't think the goverment can take it away
i think they should leave it there it is something special.
I think the cross should stay there. It is a religious symbol but it’s also supposed to be honering many people. I think the cross should stay in the same place.
i think that this whole thig is like an argument between friends and a gameboy. it should stay where its is.
I would keep it there in the desert so other people can see it and I think that they shouldn't tear it down
i think that they should leave it there because its like a memorial for the person that built it and the Veterans, even though it on governments property.
I think they should be allowed to leave the cross where it is, even though its on government property, I think the cross is a memorial for the war Veterans and should be left untouched.
I beleive that the cross should stay where it is, and should be uncovered cause it is a memorial to fallen soldiers.
I think that they should just leave the cross there because it's a memorial for the soliders and it has been there for a while.
(i say it should stay, because it has been there for 75 years. If it wasn’t taken down before, why should it be taken down now?)
i have to think why this angers people and i think it should stay
I think that the cross should stay. It's been there for a long time as a memorial! Even if it is a sign of religion, who's gonna care about it in the desert? It's a free country, with religious tolerance.
It should stay for a historical reson to tribute to World War Vets.
And it should go because of the religion it represents.
I have no real answer on what to do.
I think it’s dumb that people think the monument is a bad thing against their religion. It was made by the veterans for the veterans! They were probably not thinking about other religions that would be offended. They should just leave it alone! It is in the middle of nowhere it isn’t going to bother anyone. Let it stay where it is!!!!!
I think the memorial should stay. It could be classified as a religious memorial, but it could also be a historical memorial. It’s important that we remember the veterans, and it has been there for a long time. It will feel empty to just take it down for all it means and how long it’s been there. Please keep the memorial where it is.
i think that they should leave it up there because it is not about the religious symble it is about the reminder or our vetrians and whta they did to surve this country. i thnk they shoul leave it up there and not take it down they didnt mean for it to be a religious sign it was for rememberance.
Although some people may beleive this cross is for christianianty only, the purpose of it is for memorial of the veterans. I think that the cross should remain where it is right now.
I believe that the memorial should stay right where it is. It is not a religious symbol. It is simply a memorial used to commemorate World War II. It is rather odd that Jewish should take it as offensive. Then again, that is only my opinion.
Its been there for a long long time and why dont we just leave it there no body is getting bothered by it so we should keep it where it stands
although some people may beleive that the cross is representing christianity only, the true purpose of it was memorial of the veterans. I think that the cross should remain where it is right now.
I do not see any problems with the cross being up in the desert. The only reason this has turned into a problem is because people are making it into a problem. If there was a jewish star up in the desert, do you think there would be a big problem? Probably not. There are more important issues to be brought up in the Supreme Court other than some religious people feeling like they are being forced into a religion because there is a CROSS in a DESERT. I mean, is this for real? Seriously? We all have our opinions on religion, so why can't we show it?
I think it should stay beacuse its a historical site and it honors the vetrans also.
when i saw the "cross" on your show I thought it was a just a sign, it does'nt even look like a cross. however I still believe that the veterans shouldnt have put it there in the first place, but since they did, I think it should just stay!
I think this issue is a long time in the coming and that it definitely shouldn't be taken lightly. If its a memorial for the veterans, why not let it stay? But if there WAS some sort of underlying religous means, then why let it stay? Honestly, I'm confused by the real meaning of the cross in the Mojave Desert. Of course it's offensive in some ways to the Jewish, Muslim, Hindu, and other religous worlds, but there still is the fact that its a memoriam, a commemoratory to the war heros. Taking in all these facts about not only this particular cross but religous symbols all over the country, I have to say that it should be taken down. And even if they do remove it, people are persistant, its in our nature, and their will still be symbols like this one all over this country, no matter what the government does to try and prevent it. Whether it be completely subtle or rather blatant, they will remain on government property.
With all the different religions in America, putting just a cross in the desert would be a bit offense to some people. Other people might say or think differently though. If the government says no to religion’s signs up in public, they should follow those rules. Some people might agree and other might think that it’s just silly. Maybe they could add other religion’s signs up so it won’t be so offensive.
I think that the cross should stay because yes the veterans need honor and it was the veterans who put it up the in the first place.
i think that they should keep it there because it doesnt matter on who is affended by it because these are the people who helped us get freedom and lost there lives for us.
I Think They Should Leave It. Its Like A National Monument
What i say is what happend to the u.s. being a free country. The u.s. is supposed to be a free country were people have the right to express the religon..Im not a religus person but i do think that our country is being hypocritical.
Its there to honor veterans and if they don't like it they should get over it. I mean they went in the army to help us we should honor them whether they want us to or not. Just because its government property doesn't mean that we can't honor veterans especially if it was put there by a veterans they are religious symbols its not like we're dissing them.
i think that the cross is a symbol of respsct for fallen soldiers. And even if it is a smybol of faith is there not in the constitution about right to religion so why should it offend its just a symbol.
i dont think its a bad thing
I say keep it there for the veterans.
The veterans put it up so i think its not a religouis cross and it should stay untill it falls its self.
I think that they should keep the cross in the desert. It honors the veterans, in a kind and respectful way. The cross was put up in the rocks by a proud American and should stay. They are only showing their respect for this country and our veterans.
I do understand the frustration of the Jewish and the other religions, though. If a sign was up that showed a different religion then mine, I would want this to be changed too.
I think that they should keep the cross up, but then put up other’s signs of respect and honor to our veterans. America was founded upon Christianity and it was just a sign of honor.
The Cross may represent religious history, but it isn't in this case. It's been up for 75 years now. What does it matter? It's there to honor veterans, not force a religion on them.
I Believe They Should Keep It Up Till It Comes Down On Its Own!!! It Was Founded By Religious Beliefs And Think About What The Vetrans Did For Us!!!
I believe that the cross is merely a symbol for the dead soldiers that died in the war. If I was in that war, I would want that to. Because it is just a memorial symbol and not a religious symbol.
-The Goose
What’s so bad about having a cross up in the desert? I don’t see why people can’t put up anything they want, there not forcing their religion on anyone, plus it’s been up for 75 years. They should keep it up, and let the Jewish and Moslems put up their stuff as well.
well I think they should keep it up because well there thinking about there religon and some people need to think about other people first before them selves! And so yeah they have the right to keep it up! dont try and tell them to take it down because thats not right!
Well i think that the people that made that christianity thing to put up the crossto keep it up because its not really for the christanity and it isnt an offense to people its just for honoring the vetrans and the people and the cross isnt causing harm for the people of other religions so they can keep it up for vetrans cause they are important people in our lives so.......................KEEP THE CROSS UP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
In my opinion, I think the cross is a symbol of pride, and the people should be allowed to keep it there, it isn’t effecting the Muslim religion, its just a piece of land that is special to Christians and they should keep it there, no matter how the Muslims react.
My opinion in taking down the cross is that they shouldn’t. I don’t think they should because it’s for the veterans and its not necessarily all religious and stuff. It represents the veterans. And its not hurting anyone. People can choose to ignore it, or people can choose to make a big deal out of it. People are being immature about it and making a big deal out of it. Let people believe in what ever they want. Its not hurting anyone.
I know that cross is a religious symbol. It been there since 1930’s and it is about 75 years old. So it doesn’t matter to me if it one religious. Because my family are catholic. So I think they should keep it there for that reason. So please keep there because it matter to some people.
I think that the cross should stay where it is. If the other religions wanted to complain about it before they should have complained 60 years ago. Also why do they have a problem about it when most memorials have a cross over their graves. They don't have a problem about that so why do they have a problem with this cross when theres crossews in a lot of places. So why is this one so different then the other one. I just don't get it why they bring it up now when its been around for a good 60 years. It is so weird why they bring it up all of a sudden. Maybe the veterans wanted it there. So why would they want to take down something that the veterans wanted. When they are the ones who fought for our freedom. Why would you want to take it down. When they lost many of their friends fighting for us.
I do not think that they should take the cross down in the desert. I don’t think they should because it is not mint as a religious sign. I think that they should just leave it alone. It is there to honor our veterans not to be a problem.
I do not agree with the arguement that it should be on the government property becuase it is a religious monument and was put there for a reason and I do not think it should be moved.
It’s been there for years and years now, why care all of a sudden? Totally crazy..
I think that the cross should stay right where it is, because it's been there for many years why change now ? it's history, been around longer then you and I. it's not like its trying too persuade anyone to there certain religion! Keep it up !
I think that the cross is historical and it should be left alone.
They aren’t forcing their religion onto anyone. If they were, it would be illegal. It was a memorial sign. It's like pizza, when there are toppings people dissagree on, they can have a different piece. It's not sopposed to offend. The religious people are wrong with the memorial sign. The veterans died there, so the memorial stays! would they believe the memorial is not religious? I think they should believe it! It does look like it's in the middle of nowhere. I would hate to see it gone.
I think they should be alowed, but I also think they shouldn't
I think the monument should be aloud to stay on the property, even if it is government property because it was there in the first place, and it's a historicalmonument.
I think they should leave it in because it symbolizes people who served our country and then the country is saying that they should be move?!?!?!?!?!
i think that they should keeo it up because it stands for the people who died for are contry
i think the cross should stay because the war vetrens put it up
The cross is there for a reason i dont think that they should take it down because its for a good cause for our vetranians
I think that the cross should stay because it represents the veterians in ww1 and it is very important to them so they should not take the cross down
I think it is dumb they want to move it or take it down they should just BUy the land around it or something it was put there by the veterans and IT SHOULD STAY THERE
i think the cross should stay because the war vetrens put it up and we should respect them
i think that they should let the cross be. its stupid that they are making a big deal over a cross to remember our vetreans. i think that we should be alright with this, USA has religon tolence so why cant we tolerante this!
I think the cross should stay where it is. It is a religious symbol, but is also suppose to be honoring people.I say The cross should stay where it is.
i think they should leave the cross there b cuz it was put there for a reason and its part of history. The cross is for the dead vetrans and was put there for a reason.
i think they should leave it up because its not symbolizing christianity it was showing respect for the people that died
i think they should leave the cross. It's retarded that they want to take it down. the cross is known to people as a relious cross and was not put up for no reason.
I think that they should just let the cross stay there and that they should make sure it stays there undisturbed. No one should take something like that away. It is there for a reason and it should stay there for that reason. If people have a problem with that then they can deal with it themselves and put something special to them on their own property.
I really dont know if they should take it down or not becouse of all the different religions in the world. I think they should leave it up cus i honer the military and i try to be a cristian.
I think that they should take it down. The reason is that there were not just Christian they were also Muslim, Jewish, ECT... If Christians were the only people that fought any of the wars we had then put it up don't put it up for people who might be a different relegion. All I'm saying is that if they want to start a fight with other relegions they should do it on their on time not anybody elses time.
I think the cross should stay where it is. It’s been there for 75 years, I mean really they’re just now concerned about it? If it was such a big issue then why did they let them out it up in the first place? It seems kind of ridiculous to take it down after such a long period of time. And who says it was there for religious purposes? Its was put there by veterans to honor the fallen soldier that fought in WWII. I don’t see why everyone’s making such a huge fuss about it. If they’re so concerned why don’t they put a Buddhist sign and a Star of David and ECT. It would be better than taking down a historical site. It was/ is for a memorial. I think people need to chill and keep their religious views to them self’s. I mean really, the world just needs drama! And since the piggy flu is dying down they need something else to gossip about.
I think that they should keep the cross because it was put in the Mojave Desert by the veterans and for the veterans. The worst part of this is that they are trying to take down a monument that has been there for 75 years. The veterans put it there for a reason and it is really stupid that they are talking about tearing down a monument.
I think the government is right to address this problem. They should have known in the first place that it wasn't their land to put the cross on. The land belongs to the government. Think of it this way, if someone came and put a symbol of their religious beliefs on your front lawn, wouldn't you want to take it down or at least move it to a different place? I think that if they don't do anything about it things like this could be happening everywhere. People have a right to their beliefs but if you are going to display it, do it on your own property.
i think that the flag should stay where it is cause the vetrians put it there yeaars ago to have respect for them. If yew move the flag it will make alot of people in the world mad. Yew should appreciate the flag because the vetrians put it there. It represents that there is still good in this messed up world. If there is people that want to move the flag then it will make the world seem that it dosent matter what anybody says but it does. Yew pwoplw need to keep the flag where they put it. If oboma and the rest of the mest up government wants to move to flag well yew want to know wat i say to them. i say shut up. Because if yew move the flag more of the world will hate yew more than they already do!
I say that they should leave it there. They should leave this important cross because it’s a sighn of our strength in America and the people that helped this country and fought and lost their lives for America. It was there for a reason and it shall stay there for a reason. Its apart of our history and America if they disrespect it then they are disrespecting America. It doesn’t matter what the rules are or were it was allowed there and IT WILL STAY THERE!!!!!! THIS IS AMERICA AND PEOPLE SHE KNOW THAT WE CARE AND LOVE FOR OUR LOST SOLDIERS THAT MADE THIS COUNTRY FREE AND INDPENDENT …. I LOVE AMERICA THE LAND OF THE FREE.
I do not think the cross should be taken down i feel like most christions that it is a memorial and religios symbol and we need to respect the soldiers death and that cross is a symbol of thier loyolty to this coutry and of gods love to them and we would be foolish to take it down. EXAMPLE: if you were on the supreme count and you carried a religios symbol with you and were asked to take it off you would most likley be offeneded therefore you could imagine how offende christions are if you dicided to take down the monument/ religios symbol
i think they should keep it up. it doesn't seem fair that u could up a cross in a graveyard for family members but not in a dessert.........
The cross has been there for 75 years already why decide now to take it down. It shows honor to veterans. I don't see how anyone would take it down.
I think they should keep the cross because it is very religious to them and it will make a big ordeal.
In my opinnion they should keep the cross there because it has nothing to do with a religion it has to do with the vetrans and even though it is on government land, the government should be supporting the vetrans.
I beleive the cross should be moved because it is on government property.
I think they should move the cross to another location. If the people don't the Court may tear it down. I'm Muslim but I still believe that you should just move it. If my religion did something like that I would agree to move it.
I think that they should be able to keep the cross there. It is not hurting anybody so why should they have to move it. It represents something important: the veterans of our country who died for our freedom. I think religion is important and people should be able to practice it that is part of the reason why our country is free. I don’t think that it is hurting anybody so why not just keep it there.
i thick that the cross is is doing no harm to any thing and for one thing its honering our vetrins so why would we take it down.
I think it should just stay there, it is not hurting a fly. If those people want it there, keep it
i think the cross is not doing anything or harming any one so its fine the way it is. so there for i think it should stay where its at. it is also representing are veterians so it shall stay!!!
I believe the cross should be moved. That is government land and not all people are christians. I,myself, am a christian, but I believe we should respect those who do not believe in what we do. Yes, the cross has been there for 75 years but in those 75 years our nation has divided into seperate different religions. I believe the cross should be honored and out up, but not on public or government land.
I think that in some way it could be defensive but then agene it is not I am not christen and I have a cross nacelles so it just depends how you look at it.
i think that the cross should stay because it isnt a religious symbol its an honor and rebemberence of the vetrans. i think that every religin should have the freedom to honor their/ these vetrens. the cross isnt doing any harm to people. it just shows that that relgion is honoring some heroes. these vetrens have work hard for many things and a little honor and remembering is always a good thing to show that we appreciate all that they did.
I think this is a tribute and it isnt hurting any one its in the middle of the desert. So the cross should be alowed to stay right were it is and because veterins put it there them selfs.
I think that the cross should stay where it is. It may cause some issues between different religions but since it has been there for 75 years it hasn’t caused a problem so why change it? 🙂
I think the cross should stay because it represents all the fallen soldiers of all the wars. I don't think they should tear it down, because if another religion put up a symbol i wouldn't mind.
I do noI do not think it should be taken down because it does not even look like a cross, besides it was put there by veterans they should have a right to have it there.
I think the cross should keep it where it is currently at. After all, it has been there for 75 years and it means alot to somebody out there.
I think that the cross should stay up because it is a symbol for the veterans. The cross could be moved to a different location. The cross is a religious symbol but it doesn’t have to mean that.
I think that the cross should not be taken down because the reason its there is not just to show religion, but to represent memorial purposes for the veterans 75 years ago. No matter who thinks what, it 's not right to not help remember what they did for us.
I think that the cross should stay because it represents the Americans who gave their lifes for our country. The fact that it's a cross shouldn't matter, I mean what about all the crosses on the hiway that are memorials for the people who got in car accidents. If they get rid of this cross' pretty soon they will be trying to do the same thing about the crosses on the hiways. This is just my opinion, but I think it should stay.
I think they should keep the cross because it means a lot to the vetrens. A lot of people would be happy if they left it because it means a lot to the people who have served in the the war. People may say not to have it because it has something to do with religion but i think they should keep it because it doesnt have anything to do with that just with veterens.
I think that the people should be able to keep the cross. I hope that they can. They worked so many years to keep that sight looking clean, that I think that it is stupid if they have to take it down. I also think that the sight has been there too long. If it was recent, it would be a different story. Since it has been there so long, it is part of the land. If something was to be done about taking it down then it should have been a lo-o-o-o-ong time ago.
i think they should keep it there beacuse it hasn't bithered anyone before.
I think it should stay there because what's the point of taking it down now if its been there for 75 years? It was put there to remember the veterans that fought for our country and it would just be disrespectful to take it down.
It may be a symbol of religon but IT IS A MEMORIAL! If it has been there for 75 years, why should that change? Why should it be a controversy now? And plus it isn't saying anything about christianity, it is trying to honor the veterans who fought for this country! I am sure that is the veterans were here right now, they would be upset! IT IS A MEMORIAL AND IT SHOULD STAY WHERE IT IS!
I think that the cross should stay becouse of who put it there and that it has been there for more than 70 years. It was put there to remember the fallen soilders, why would the government want to take that down?
My thoughts on this are simple. If it's not your property, don't put something of yours up on it unless you expect it to be torn down. But I also respect the fact that it is a religous symbol and symbolizes something important; dying for your country. But if it's not on their property, then take it down.
In my personal opinion, having a memorial anywhere for soldiers, both veterans and those lost, is something that should never be contested. What I feel is being contested is the use of a cross on government grounds. That, I think, is a different subject entirely.
I feel that no religious symbol should be used on government property, and a cross as a memorial is one example of a well-meant, but politically incorrect, attempt. I feel that if they simply constructed something different, such as a large, cut-stone memorial, then it would be acceptable. A cross, however, is different, in my eyes. A cross raised 75 years ago is almost guaranteed to be some sort of religious symbol. Keep religious symbols off of government ground.
I think the people should leave it there, because it is historical. Also it has been there for 75 YEARS! ! ! So why should it all of the sudden it be taken down?
i think it is wronge because if its been there for a long time and they didnt say nothing then and if it didnt bother anyone. Now they are changing it becasue the goverment thinks that it is to religious but the real reason is that it is for the verens that died in it and basically saying rest in peace
I think that removing the cross would be disrespectful, and the cross being there does not claim state religion. The cross was put there years ago and in those times it was okay. now years later the rules may have changed but one must still respect what was.
i think people are crazy
I think it should stay. People may have different perspectives on it. Maybye some poeople may think it should stay for religous reasons and some say it should go for religous reasons. Some say it should stay as a memorial and some say it can't be a memorial so it should go. But I think they have proof it should stay as a war memorial as veterans from the war put it up.
This whole controversy is not needed, but yet at the same time, it is. Instead of arguing over if the cross should be stationed there or not, people in the area should be working on getting other religions symbols there so that more people are pleased. This cross was placed there as a memorial, and should be a historical marker, which should NOT be taken away from those deserving people it was placed there for.
I have a question. Is just the cross important or is the land it's on important? If the cross is the only important thing then is should be allowed to be relocated. if the land has importance then the government can arrange to parcel the piece of land around the cross so it can be sold to the group that wants it. I don't think the government should maintain a religious site on public lands. There might be people of other religions who would expect the government to allow their own symbols and sites to be maintained by the government if they did it for this site.
i dont think the cross should be tooken down because its great history. It represents the veterens that put there lives in danger to give us freedom.Apparently the government dont understand what it means.Come on government its a religios symble.I THINK IT SHOULD STAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Even though I'm Muslim, I think that the cross should stay. It's honoring the veterans and I don't know why this is causing so much controversy. If it is that necessary though, since it is government property, it should just be moved out of government land. Or just add different religious signs to honor the veterans of different religions. I mean, why does it matter if the cross is moved a little? Its still is going to honor the veterans. But still, the government shouldn't care about this that much. They're not even using the land!!!!
I think the government should just leave the cross alone. Veterans of wars need to be remembered and this is a good way for people to give thanks for their sacrifices. Anyway it's not harming anything or anyone, so why should it be moved? There are many problems going on during the economy and they are more important than this.
i think that extending school days is wrong yah sure so it keeps kids away from gangs and stuff but we are allowed a personal life to so if we are not a llowed ou personal life then what realy do we have but i might go with it if there is no home work
We think the cross should be kept up because it is historical. It represents our country and the people that protected it in 1934. We should continue to respect that as we enjoy the lives we live and love today.
I honestly think that government may have a hard time choosing. The Constitution says that no religious artifact can be put on national property, yet the Bill of Rights says that we have freedom of religion in the 1st Amendment. Personally, I would leave the cross up. It's not only a religious artifact, but a tribute to the veterans of America, and taking that down would probably make many people upset. Plus, it was put there over 75 years ago, which makes it a historical artifact. What to do, nobody knows yet...
My opinion is that it should stay there and that the supreme court should just drop this controversy. Its been there for 75 years already, so why make it a big deal now? It's not causing any harm to anybody and the only thing that this cross represents is honor and rememberance. It's a memorial to veterans and it should be respected.
I personaly think that the cross should be taken down because it is on government property. Even though they claim it isn't a religious symbol, if you ask anyone else in the world what the cross means, they will say it is a religious symbol for christianity. There for, that makes it look like the government is endorsing a single religious group. And it is said in the constitution, that the government can not support any religion what so ever.
The cross should be allowed to stay where it is because it is a historical memorial representing and remembering veterans and has been located there for over 75 years. There is no reason why it should be taken down now. The cross is a positive way of honoring the people that served our country and gives thanks for their sacrifices. This is not the biggest issue our country is facing right now; rather the government should focus on other more pressing issues.
I believe that the cross should stay in place because it is honoring our veterans, it is not a religous symbol. Plus it is in the middle of nowhere and it doesnt take up any room. Also it doesnt disturb anybody its just there foe people to see if they choose too.
i believe that it is a historical monument. many people do not think that it represents something very religious. i dont take it that serious it is a sign of respect to me.
The cross has been there for seventy five years. It's not putting anyone in danger and the cross is not affecting people any differently then it would seventy five years ago. What happened to freedom or religion anyway? The cross should be left at it's place.
i think the cross should stay there because that universal symbol for Jesus!
my class thinks the cross should stay because it was a memorial long before people had problems with it.
I'm desagree whit this person and i think she don,t have to put the croos on the desert ,those people can put on home or other place..
i think the cross should stay where it is because it is a religous symbol.
I'm disagree whit the person because he can put on other place and no afect to oher people..
I do not think it should be taken down. Because it represents the fullen soldiers. Also, because it is a cross so that is really cool. It really shouldn't be taken down.
Well it's been a little too long of a wait to decide on moving the cross. It's established itself as a piece of history, litterally being there for a lifetime. It's like trying to sue for something that happened 9 years ago, but the statute of limitations expired. Not saying religion can expire, but it's a bit too late on deciding to move the cross.
The cross has been in the same place for 75 years, and people are just now saying something. Its never been a problem before, so why now? I say everyone should just chill out, and focus on other things.
I think the fact that the government is even worrying about this is ridiculous. Its a simple cross that has been there for 75 years and is only there in order to respect the veterans who have risked their lives. It is not doing any harm. The government should start focusing on the much more pressing matters at hand.
I am a Christain, but I do not go to church and I am not very religious. I believe in God and a place that we go after we die, but seriously? This is silly. The owners of the cross said it themselves, it's not an religious symbol. When people die in car crashes, their is usually an cross for how many people died in the crash at the place it happened. This is a little different though, if not completely. It's JUST an historical mark from history, and I love history more then anything. The people who died in the war would want it up, not taken down. Especially when they worked hard to bring it. It's a sign of pride for Americans, if people don't believe in God, what's matter it anyway? It's not their life to live and decide.
Leave the sign be! It's historical and has a right to be there! Personally, I think it should stay...I mean it was put up for a purpose! And not to be later destroyed!
I believe if something is as historical as The Mojave Desert then it should be left alone. The Mojave Desert probably means a lot to the natives of that area.
Well I think that if the Supreme Court is going two try and say thats a bad idea then why do they have crosses on where people past away.
I think the cross should stay erected. When it was put up in the first place there was no intention of supporting a religion, it was simply a memorial for those who died in war. Its like people who wear crosses on a necklace, some say "it looks cool", not because of a religion
i think that it should stay and that the government should leave it alone, although it is a religious symbol it also represents the past. its been there for seventy-five years and it represents fallen soldiers and it's not like its in the city where every one can see it
I think that the sign should stay! Totally dude
They should just leave the cross there. They should leave it there because it is not necessarily representing a religion it is showing support to veterans.
I think they should leave it there as a sign that they support the vetrans and the sign of their christianity.
I feel that this cross should be kept as it is, not moved, not boarded up and most definitly not taken down! Though some say this cross is a religous symbol, I think it is just a memorial for veterans and that there really is not anything religous about it. There is too much to worry about without adding a veterans memorial to the list. Whoever put it there, put it there for a reason and it should stay there. Obviously there were people who fought and earned the right to put it there, and it seems like nobody payed any mind to it up until now.
It is a religeous monument, but it is also historical. It is a part of this countries people and we are many. I believe it should stay.
I dont understand why they are making a big deal about this. It does not matter what you think it is for as long as in your mind and its what you think it is then you should be happy about that. Etheir way they are both in good meaning.
just because the cross is there doesn't mean that other religions are blocked out. the cross has been the symbol for veterans for years. when someone wants to continue with tradition, that doesn't call for a big argument.
Its not like we need more troops! We shouldn't have gone over there in the first place! And if they did have nucuelar weapons we wouldn't be alive! I mean like HELLO!!!! And its too late now to pull out and say like "sorry dude" and just leave! They're going to invade us at some point!
The monumet should totally stay! the vetrons put that up and now they just want to throw it a away! im not religouse but it has to stay!
hey should keep it there because its not a religious cross it is for the veterans anyways and sent up by them too. its not hurting any religion or anybody.
I Believe the cross should stay where it is. We're in a war thats been going on for 8 years, our economy is still not the best, and Atlanta is partway under-water. I believe that there are more important things we should be worrying about and I think we owe it to all the fallen soldiers of America, to leave the cross where it is.
To me, i think its wrong to take down something people use to remember those who have died for us. If they take it down I don't see how thats going to make a big difference. Its not bothering anyone, is it? Leave it be. =]
I think all this controversy over the cross is really dumb. It's been there for so long and it kinda in my opinion it goes agenst the constitution, you know freedom of religion. Even if it's not ment to be a religios symble they cant make them take it down and I'll be really mad if they do.
The veterans that is commemorated by the cross is Americans, right? I heard the cross even says itself it is not for religious purpose. If the cross is honoring Americans and it is on the AMERICAN soil, I think the government should be apologizing to the rangers and keep the cross until every Americans have vanished upon the Earth
I feel also that the Mojave Controversy is just another bickering set up by irresponsible politicians of the area. They should be impeached and be sent to Afghansitan to feel for themselves what is like to be a veteran!!!
i think that they should move the cross to a more secluded spot
I personnaly think it should stay where it is just because it has been there for 75 years. What harm is it doing anyway?
I am a Christain, but I do not go to church every day and I am not very religious. I believe in God and a place that we go after we die, but seriously? This is silly. The owners of the cross said it themselves, it’s not an religious symbol.
this is bad
One Word Communist!!!
Even though the cross might possibly be a religious symbol, I think it has to do with all the veterans that died in the wars. It seems like the people that put it there put it there for a very good reason. The cross should stay where it is regardless to the fact that its on government property. It just wouldn't be right to make someone remove it.
i think they should leave it up or then they would have to take down other memorial with crosses, like the D-day Cemetery
it doesnt matter i mean really if the veds put it up then its fine the would want it up
well if it is a religious symbol or not, they should keep it because no matter what your religion is showing hatred to someone else's religion is just wrong!
I think we should let the public decide.
Since I am part of the public it should stay.
One reason- Its been there for 75 years!!!!
Why take it down?
It's historical!
Be happy people!!!
In my opinion the govorment should leave this place alone. It is a historic monument for the vetrins, from the vetrins.I think that the cross is a symbal for my freedom and everyone elses freedom.I don't think the cross in the Mojave desert is a religous symbal.Just a momorial to all those who have died in honor to our rights and freedom!!
I really think the cross should stay because it is a religious symbol and it's honoring veterans who fought in world War II. I know that it is built on government land, but unless the government is planning to build something there, they have no reason to demolish the cross or to cover it up.
I am retired from the Navy (1996) and i believe that the cross should be left alone. This cross was put there in memory of fallen comrads, not as a religous symbol. I think the ACLU, or whoever is persueing this should look at more important issues and do some good for this country and not try to tear it apart any more than it is already.
If any one can serve this country, give there life for this country, I think the least we can do is allow a symbol of rememberance to be left alone, and show some honor, thanksfulness and RESPECT!!!.
I think it's a symbol that honors the fallen, not a religious sign. I think it could be solved by maybe gathering the people who they know that died and putting their religious sign up there but I still think that the cross should stay.
It is the stupid reason to board it up the cross is in remembrance not religious reasons
I think that the cross should be allowed to stay where it is. I think this for a couple of reasons. One reason is that the cross has been there for 75 years without trouble, why say something now? I also personally believe that America was built on religious footing anyway, so why after so long, did people decide that they want to change how they felt about religion?
To me this was a bet to see who could make the goverment give up land.
I think the government should keep the cross.I also think that they should build a bulet proof sheid on it then it wouldn't get damaged .
I think it should stay where it is.
public should decide sinse i am part of the public and it is a stupid reason to do.
Anybody who says the cross should be taken away are unresonable and ridiculous. Who cares what religion it is. If you fought in a war or died ina war wouldn't you like to be honored. I would. Its the thought that counts
I think it`s crazy for a parent to get angry over a child changing religion . Who cares what religion you have ? I don`t ! It`s ridiculous .
If care means to love and treat carefully , and healthly means to be not sick , then why are they together and in the news ?
i think the cross has to do a lot with the veterans that died in the war,and even though its government property i am sure they had a good reason why they put it their, so i think the cross should stay. This is also a historical movement on their part so why mess it up by removing the cross.
i think that the cross should stay there because it is a piece of history and for all we know this cross could be more important in our history than we know.
I think that they should keep it up there because it is a historical site.
I think the cross should stay where it is because it is a religious symbol and that will disrespect people if they move it....
There's nothing wrong since it is just a memorial monument for the American soldiers who fought bravely during the battle. Many people chose the cross in the past as the their grave symbols, and they might not have any relations with Christianity. It is a waste of money for arguing this landmark in the supreme court( Think about the U.S economy). Why not we make a better America instead of wasting time for arguing this cross?
I say keep the cross. It's not hurting anyone and it is a good religious symbol.
Thank You for including the Veteran's Day in your blog I think it is great because you are giving Veteran's everywhere that you care about the Verteran's. To all the Verteran's everywhere i hope you have a good Verteran's Day.
