Your Opinion: The President's Education Speech
President Obama has a back-to-school speech coming up on Tuesday. We'd like to know your thoughts about it: Does it make a difference to you that the president is specifically addressing students, or does this seem like just another speech? Are you planning to watch it, either at school or on your own? And will hearing the president speak about the importance of staying in school influence you to do it?

I think That it will be a thought out speech about school and will try to watch it if not watched at school.dont know why he is giving a back to school speech when it like the Fourth week back to school.
Obama is not my favorite president but i will watch the speech simply because he is the president. And i think he will make some interesting points whether i agree with them or not.
Well I am planning to watch at school it because it is the speech of our president. However, I think that the speech can't influence many students because it is a choice that the students should make them selves.
My school is having us watch the speech on education with the middle and high school, it's going to be boring. zzzzzzzzzzz
I believe it's just a speech considering it comes so late in the time where Obama isn't doing that well with the public, but I am interested in what he'll have to say to determine falsehood or none.
I think it's silly that people are becoming so angered over the president speaking to students... many presidents before have. Additionally, it's baffling to me why any parent is opposed to the president encouraging their children to do well in school and set educational goals.
I have read the President’s speech and I agree with his comments. I am a conservative republican and I did not find any problem with what the President will say in his speech to the students. There is no brainwashing or indoctrination in his comments. We have problems in our schools and that needs to change.
Are we becoming so stupid in this country that commonsense has disappeared? There are too many people that are blindly following people who have their own agenda.
There are too many checks and balances in place in our system of government to protect us against some of the ridiculous statements such as Obama wants to become a dictator and our government will turn into the communist government. If we allow that happens, we the people have failed.
Yes, I have problems with some of his policies but I will not listen to this craziness that has been put forward lately. We are spending too much time on these petty side issues, instead of getting down to the business of making this country better.
Honestly, there shouldn't be any big controversy over a speech the president hasn't made yet unless it contains something truly controversial. Whether or not anyone personally likes the President or not, it is your duty as an American to listen and respect him, after that you have the right to not keep it to heart. I do indeed planning on listening to my Commander In Chief speak and will be listening to hear what he has to say. (Support America.)
The excuses many parents are giving about not wanting their children to hear the presidents message is utterly ridiculous. Even if he was to mention an agenda (which I highly doubt) what would be so different about the history books many of the same children are forced to read!
I would listen to it, because I believe it's important to listen to what the president wants to say. My belief is that it's silly to purposely ignore words Obama took time and effort to put together. He's a very busy man, and still he did work that he didn't have for children, the country's future. It wouldn't hurt to hear something that is directed at us. The speech shows that he cares. After all, the president has kids of his own. I think it's unfair for people to judge Obama when we haven't even seen it yet; it could be the greatest speech since Martin Luther King!!
It's really no big deal to me. It is just a regular speech. People have problem with it are usually southern republicans who are aganist the president in the first place. We students are people and can make our descesions. We are not easily brainwashed.
I think it is absurd that people are so upset about this speech. I wonder how many of these same people would object if this were President McCain giving the same speech. Paranoia is a funny thing. It seems to selectively surface – don't question the President's motives or information when he wages an illegal war, but throw a fit when another President wants to talk to children about staying in school and persistence to graduation.
We are not watching it at school but I will watch it at home because it is important to me. I wouldn't vote for Obama if he made us go to school year round.
Even if your political party is different than the President's, you should still watch the speech because Mr. Obama is our President. You don't know if you may share some of the same ideas even if you are not in his political party.

I think the president is trying to help but people are taking it the wrong way. And plus if it was political then the kids would still be learning!!!

I think we should watch the speech because im sure it will be informational for every student.
I think that if we had scool year-round many students would complain and many would go mad.
I honestly believe that our President has our(as in the students) education in mind. He's just voicing his concern about our education. I do not think he is planning to make this a political concern, he's just looking out for the future education of students.
I think it would be a good idea to have year around school because we would still get breaks on the weekend and also still get breaks through out the year. LETS GO ALL AROUND SCHOOL YEAR!!!!!!!!!
To me, it seems like this is just another speech. I personaly don't care what the president has to say because it seems like he is only trying to talk to adults over 21. I'm tired of the government not understanding us students and how we feel.
I think that the presidents speach is ok but i feel that he should be extra careful of what he says becouse it could be potentially influencial
I cannot help but think that most of the controversy behind the president’s speech is driven by pure racism. I simply do not think that if McCain had won the election and were addressing students today about the importance of staying in school that we would be seeing all the same fervor. Where is the respect for the office of the presidency? It is appalling that in a democracy there are entire school systems that are telling teachers that they may not show their own president in their own classrooms!
Okay now this is ridicules! Come on people it's a speech, on education! Its not like the president is using scientists to send mind- warping airwaves through the computer. Some of the children might not even know what he's talking about and some of them might not even care. I don't see what the big fuss is about. Watch it, don't watch it who cares! Chill out people! Relax, breath, calm down. Let's not make a fuss over this SPEECH!!!

i would watch it, but then i would say my opinion on what he says... i don't judge people by what other people say or what they do before i know more about them..
I think that if some one doesn't want they kid to watch it then they should not have to.
It might influence me, but that is for me to decide. I will stay in school anyway, whether or not I listen to Obama's education speech. I might not like school, but it is necessary.
I think it is important for the students to be aware and involved in eduction and what the President has to say about it.

It might influence the students who watch it.Im in school now so i may have to watch it. There may be some important things Obama has to say. But I think parents think that Obama is going to tell us something to tell the students.
It doesn't matter to me, but we should have a choice if we want to watch it or not. The President should be cautious about what he says though, if he says the wrong thing some people may be offended. Would you like to watch something that offends you?
I think its completely pointless. He should know that kids don't care about his speech and would rather sit bored in class than listen to some speech. People are overreacting about this saying that it could harm the students when it can't, its just that nobody wants to watch it
Our school is watching it, i really dont want to because i really dont like our president, and now we have to listen to him talk...BORING!

Yes, it kind of makes the child feel important and involved rather than getting second hand news from parents. i think it is very important and a vital part of being a citizen and all he is trying to do is inform the youth of what they need t know. i also believe people are being racists as well because i think that no other president felt concern for future legislators and presidents that ARE today's youth.
I do not know why there is so much controversy over the speech when he hasn't made it yet. I will try to watch it because it is meant to motivate students to get into college due to high dropout rates. Not to talk about politics.

we wanted to say that we care if obama talks to us. he is the president and he want to help our decressing drop out rate. he says he has a plan and i think we should hear it.

President Obama's speech seems more like a call for students that are 18 by the time of the next election to vote for him. He wants to put the image that he is the right candidate for the next election. He shouldn't be trying to corrupt the mind of younger children.
I dont really mind, i would watch it just to say I watched it, but i dont really care about the speech all that much, if the obama speech is put up at my school so I have to watch it, I guess ill watch it, either way I dont really care about it.
i will not be watching obamas speech.I disagree with everything that man has to say.In my own opinion i do not feel that his speech obout education will make a differnce in the nation.
Its a dumb speech. Its not like he will be telling the kids that Republicans are bad or that they need to do this to live right. He is just encouraging us to stay in school and do our work. as long as he doesnt mention anything about the health care reform or any other politics then thats okay with me.
I’m not gonna watch the speech because I don’t really want too. But some kids agree with this speech or whatever its about, I don’t really understand what he is trying to say. But I think that sometimes he has a point with all of the different things he says.

I will probobaly watch the speach. I think Obama is a very charasmatic man therefore I want to here what he has to say. As long as he stays on the topic of staying in school instead of healthcare, I'm all ears.
Why would anyone even care in the slightest that this speech is directed at students? It’s a speech. He makes these all the time. How is it that just because his educational speech is focused on the people who it’s intended to affect this speech is somehow a horrible and frightening thing?
i think Obama is the man! He's ridiculosly good looking, rad, and smart. if he wants to preach to the kids, i say preach it brothern. But fer real, let the man do his job. stop critisizing him. i mean, hes the president d00d. just chill. he's raising minumum wage for folks. you should be stoked.
I think our school should have let us watch the speech, but nope our school is just full of ignorant people and what not, think they know it all and what’s better, sometimes someone else’s opinion counts too and specially if it’s the US president. I don’t get why there’s anger and controversy, it’s a motivational speech.
He had some great points in his speech. But it depends on who the person is and how you take the message. Obama is a great President some people just don't give him enough credit where it is due. Remember Bush is out of office now so he has to do the best he can to fix what Bush did.
I think that the president might be sending a good message but i really dont want to here it cause until he puts his self in the possition of the kids his speech is directed at it will be uneffective.it wont change mucch just because the prsident says so....
I consider President Obama’s speech to be just another speech. Typically I don’t go out and watch presidential speeches, because they tend to be dry and boring, no matter the audience. It doesn’t matter to me that he is addressing student, but now that there is so much controversy behind the speech, I might watch it online.
I think this speech is going to be very diverse then most of his common ones. First of all it is addressed to the student body. I was planning on watching it on my own time just to see what the speech is about. Seeing as I have stayed in school since the age of 4 I think it will not influence me much as I have already decided.
Obama’s speech will not have a big effect on me seeing how I have stayed in school for twelve years. I plan to go to college and I don’t need any motivation. It probably will be good for schools that have a high dropout rate as long as they leave out politics. I will most likely watch the speech, but I might not finish it. haha
I think that it is a good idea that the President is speaking to us students but the timing is off. He should of picked a time where there isn’t much to get done. I plan on watching it when I get home tonight. And I plan on staying in school anyways weather the president says to or not because if I drop out my mom would kick my butt.
I really don't care nothing about school or what he has to say. Me and my family stand where we want to we don't need to be judged by someone else. I am the first person on my father's side of the family to go to high school, and I wrather waste my time doing something I am interested in. Obama might be president, but he ain't no beter than me.

I don’t think I’m going to watch it. I feel like it’s just another speech that he is going to give, but this time he just give in the school. So mostly people said he is going to give a speech that not about education, because you know right now we have some heath care going on.
To begin, people should be making big deal over this speech. If George Bush addressed students when he was president, every liberal would be up in arms. The video is just propaganda to try to save his corrupt and failing regime. The people that are witholding their children are not racist, they just care for their children's well being.
I think it wont do any good for the president to talk to the students. Students are more likely to do something if there put under pressure,thats another reason that students drop out of school they get behind. Some students dont learn as quick as others.

My thoughts about the speech are, Even tho coming from the president I do not think the speech is going to change very much if anything at all. It seems to me that the addressing is just another speech. I am planning to watch it school because my princeable put it on but I did not mind.

President Obama's speech was insightful, humble and pragmatic. He successfully conveyed the importance of an education to both personal and communal success, and how perseverance despite hurdles is essential to that education.
If anyone still has a problem with his speech, they're probably just looking for a fight no matter what, much like "toxic" thugs who would beat a man just for smiling at them.
He should make sure it is appropriate for young kids.

i think it is good that the president is caring about kids. It is important that this generation succeeds on a whole because the government needs new ideas now more than ever. The state of things can get worse if this generation can't step up to the challenge!
Chills. Our president wrote this speech trying to get us to stay in school because we are the future, and we have the chance to become something great. Our world has many problems, and if we get a good education, we can make it better. It makes me want to get an education if my president wants me to stay in school.

I was forced to watch Obama's speech at my school. I was reading a book and my teacher told me to put it up. My family is not into Obama's speeches or anything he saids.
i watched it and i thank it was insorationle to some in class but he didnt say any thang negitiv or inapropreit that my parents dont want me to hear.that mom just did not like obama and that was it

Ok I understand why some people do not agree with Obama, personally i do not agree with some of the stuff he says. But that lady that was crying over her children watching his speech was over reacting. I mean he didn't say anything at all that she hasnt told her kid before, I bet. if she really didn't want her kid to watch it keep them out of school or send a note tothe school saying she don't want them to watch it. I think the presidents speech was very inspiring and I dont see what any problem with showing this speech to students. It has a great message and i think everyone should hear this, it will improve the childrens behavior.

i can see both sides; obamam wants kids to stay in school so he sends them a speech no one can complain about that; but when he starts bringing polatics into it and has the curiculum that askes the kids what they can do for the president is not acceptable.
Well, I'm not the government's biggest fan or anything but I am totally watching the speech. And even if this speech is about politics I think the schools should air it in school. After all, it is directed towards students.

I have not listened to the speech yet but I'm sure that Obama made some valid points. I can't believe that people are some people are mad that he is doing this. If the president doens't support education in America, then why would anyone else care about education. Obama is now the most powerful person in the entire world so if he didn't support education and make speeches like his welcome back speech that is supposedly controversial, then no one would care about education
I think even though parents don't allow there kids to watch the speech they should watch it in there classrooms. My teacher says it's a wonderful speech, even though my parents didn't vote for him I'LL WATCH HIS SPEECH!!!

Im not watching because i think its just a scam to get everyone to realect him.
I think that what the president said was just another speech. He told us things that we have been told our entire lives. We know we're the future and we know we should strive to better ourselves for it and stay in school. The only difference is that instead of being lectured by our teachers about this, Obama is taking their place.
I watched the President's speech and I thought that it was pretty good. I think as a kid it is important to know that your education affects a lot of your future. Great speech.
I do not understand why some parents are getting all bent out of shape about the president speaking to their kids. The video Carl did said it was because they didn't want Obama talking about politics to their kids. But he isn't going to talk about politics: he's going to talk about staying and school and the importance of pushing yourself to get good grades and make a better future for yourselves. Even if it was about politics, what's wrong with that? They already teach us about politics in school, and besides, learning about politics will help us with being a good citizen when we are old enough to vote. I plan to wacth Obama's speech for sure.
I think us kids should watch it. If you dont want your kids to watch it let them stay home. I think if we don't watch it, they'll (the school) will just be teaching us how to hate (on people) and what they do.

I watched President Obama's speech and I believe that his speech was towards the students of America but, It seemed that Obama's speech was more about helping then nation than students helping themselves.
I don't agree with the presidents decision to speak to the kids at school, if he had to speak he should have given an address where the parents had the power to say they could listen or not.
People get so worked up over the stupidest things. Obama just wants to inspire kids to stay in school, and with the current drop out rate that's a good thing.

I think the controversy is unreasonable. I think it is good for our president to talk to us about how important it is for us to succeed and work in school. I understand why some Republicans would not like it if the President talks to us about his political views, but we also need to accept other's ideas.
People are over riacting its not something to cry for he wants to shear and tall us the students how to be some one great in life.
I think we should be watching the address even though many people don't want to. Many people might think it's going to be political, but if you don't feel comfortable with your child watching the speech, don't let them. Let the other kids watch and learn. The only problem is, Obama might have a hidden agenda and turn out talking about politics.

I don't just believe it is just another speech. Although some points have been told to us our entire lives, it means a lot more that the President is directly addressing the students, and it shows he actually cares about our education.
I don't see what all the uproar is about. A similar speech was made in 1991 by former president George H. W. Bush, and there was little uproar about that. This may be different present day, and it may be linked to another issue in our country, racism.
I just think that kids our age shold be able to choose if they want to watch the speach or not because he is talking to us (the kids).also I dont get why the lady was crying if your kid dosent want to watch the speach it called put your head down
I think the president wants to encourage us to focus on school and learn more. This speech is just a choice for all the students. Whether we listen to it or not is our choice and only ours.
I have already watched this speech in class. The president only wants all the students to have school top priority. Not only this but he also wants less dropouts.
I don't plan on watching the speech, since it's just the President talking to kids about political problems that we kids don't even need to think about till we're older. He's just telling us we are the next generation and that we need to solve all these problems like finding a cure for cancer and to stop war.

I personally believe that all students should at least be given the oppurtunity to watch President Obama's speech. Forcing students to watch if they are not interseted is not going to help anyone. Students could go to a certain room depending on if they did or did not want to watch the speech. This is a motivational speech, he is trying to get school age kids to think about their future and set goals. The speech is not about politics, nor is it just for goverment or social studies classes. Not allowing students to watch the speech because of worries about possible political statements is sending the wrong message to today's youth, that you should not listen to people who have different political views or that you should only support our president if you agree with every single thing he does. It is just wrong. People are already showing students to be narrow-minded and not open to the opinons of others. Watching this speech will benefit students, not brainwash them. I don't think that parents should stop their kids from listening too, respecting and/or liking the president. It is up to them to decide what they believe, not their parents.
If the president is addressing the students then students should listen. I don't plan to watch it, however if the president I know the importance of education. Hearing the president speak about it will definitely motivate me even more to stay in school.

I don't think that kids need to hear a speech about staying in school. We all know to stay in school.
As a student, it was pretty pathetic to see these GOP people scaring everything up. Because our president is HALF-black, anyone who doesn't have an ounce of color in them think it's alright to disrespect the man who IS our PRESIDENT. He was addressing us, the students. Not you, the parents. I don't like the idea that no one is supporting the man who is up there, running our country. President Obama was encouraging us– No. CHALLENGING us to stay in school. To be the first to graduate in our families if that's the case. He's right. There is NO excuse for children to be out of school. As the future of this country, you "parents" need to stop brainwashing your kids into thinking that we shouldn't have faith in our President. Just because he isn't McCain, doesn't mean that he's a bad person. Quit being so narrow minded. If anything, our country isn't progressing forward with our battle with acceptance, especially if hysterical mom's who are shown on t.v. are crying because our President wanted to address us. We're people too, and I appreciate the fact that President Obama took the time to talk to US. The FUTURE of the United States of America. Side note: For all of those who are waiting for the change Obama is bringing, things don't happen over night. His first year isn't even close to over. So, respect the man we call our President, he has the hardest job you can think of. It isn't easy to run an entire country– and if you think it is, why don't you run for Presidency instead of bad-mouthing the man who stepped up to the challenge.
If you know you're the future, then why don't you embrace. With the underlying smell of "racism", it's funny to see how the GOP can bring back all the hype that shouldn't exist at all. History repeats itself, but up to this point, this is the first President that most conservatives took the time to disrespect because he was speaking to us, the students and not you, the parents.
This is the same Leila as earlier. I think that it is crazy that in this nation where we choose our own president, that we appointed this great man, Obama, yet we still do not trust him. When we elected President Obama, we gave him certain responsibilities. We have to trust him to fulfill his duties. I think that it is crazy that we don't trust him to give a speech to the children of our country, even after he put the speech on the internet so that we could view it and see that there is nothing political about it. The whole speech is trying to inspire kids to stay in school, and when I read it, I found it very enlightening. I am disappointed that people in this "great nation" do not trust their leader to try and convince kids that getting an education is worth it; that he believes in them.
I'm a 6th grader and I believe it is idiotic for parents to not let their children watch Pres. Obama's speech. I have reason to believe that when the President says that he's going to talk about education, he will talk about education and not other matters. My mom is a teacher and he didn't say anything that she wouldn't tell me or her students and nobody boycotts her. I loved the speech and I'm glad that the President of the United States would take the time to talk to the nation's students.
yes i will watch it this is going to be a great speech president Obama wants us kids to go to school and make something of ourselves some parents are jus taking it the wrong way and some just have their opinions my opinion is that this is great experience for kids Obama wants us to work hard and reach our goals to become successful citizens

My school is not watching the speech and i personaly think its stupid. President Obama is making an effort to talk to us students about how important is it to stay in school and try hard. I think parents are complaining and not wanting us to watch is because they are afraid we are going think he is a good president. Its not like he is talking about politics or anything. He is our president and i think wether you like him or not we should respect him and watch the speech.

I had a student last year who thought that no one had it as rough as him and had a huge chip on his shoulder. It won't come as any surprise that his most used quote was, "Who cares, I'm dropping out anyway." He experiences many of the same things that the President related today about himself. Those situations are real and I am thankful we have a President who will humble himself enough to relate to kids who need to know someone who overcame the odds 'has been there'. I couldn't do that because I had relatively few hardships in my youth and I can only sympathize. I feel very fortunate that our school participated in listening to the speech and that my student heard his words in his ears. I'm thankful to be backed up by a man such as him. I trusted him to say heartfelt, inspiring, and encouraging things to my students and my child. He did not disappoint.
I think the kids should choose if they want to watch it but if they don't they shouldn't be forced to.
I think the president should give the children the speech. He has two of his own , and he cares about the children of the u.s . If the president didn;t care about us he wouldn't have had the speech.We should be thankful he cares about us . I think there were ups and downs to the speech, but for the most part i was cool. Some people had to leave, watch I don't under stand. Hearing the speech was like a journey inthe past and the future.

His message to us students was not to change our political opinion of him, but to encourage our education and to give us words of wisdom. Barack Obama is the president. People should respect him. It can't hurt to show a speech to students. It had nothing to do with politics and most kids thought it was time well spent. Mr. Perez's class, I think that every student should have been exposed to the speech. The speech was inspiring towards obtaining a higher and greater education. The speech was very motivating. I have been motivated to stay in school and learn harder than before. The fact that the president, the leader of the free world is addressing the students of his own country is saying something about the educational system in the country.
The speech that Obama gave was inspiring to me because now I know I have to work hard to suceed in what I want. Some parents didn't take there kids to school because they said that they didn't want there kids to here all that political issues. I dont understand what the big controversy is over the speech. All past presidents have done the same thing. My family is republican, and i watched the speech and there was nothing political about it. It was acually very inspiring.

In our small classroom, some of us feel that the Obama's speech gave encouragement to those who felt they didn't have a chance of succeeding, some others of us feel the opposite, thinking that some students will go to college and others do have plans to.
This Speech is just like every speech I think that we should speak for our selves.
Obama's speech is definitely not just an ordinary speech. He is one great example of how education had changed his path to presidency: a drug addict from a Columbia graduate lawyer. Therefore, his speech clearly shows that he cares about education and wants students to lead the "future." Although some people may criticize him for talking to students, I would love to hear from him in my class.

Yesterday, I watched president Obama’s speech. I think it helps people stay in school. I think he was saying move forward and put the past behind me. I am not going to give up on myself. Because most kids don’t watch the news at home and are not up to date on events that are going on in the world or in America. They only know what their parents say and I think that their opinions on the president and other political issues are solely based on their parent’s opinions not theirs. So the presidential address to the students should be made mandatory to help students who don’t watch the news form their own opinion on things.
President Obama’s speech to the students is a good idea, but It’s not that important to me. Personally I think that If you want to hear the speech then you should and if you don’t want anything to do with it then you’re not forced to hear it so it shouldn’t matter to most people. Some people are going crazy over it but it’s simple, all you have to do is not watch it or make your kids not watch it. It’s your opinion.

What i got from the video is that he wants everyone whether they are going through a hard time or not to just make sure they are getting the best out of their education and get the education after 12th grade that maybe some of our parents didn't get.

I watched the speech Tuesday, and I noticed that Mr. Obama just repeated the same things our parents, teachers, and family members tell us all the time. I was disappointed he was just being another adult that just babbles on, I thought it was going to be more than telling us to be "smarter".

Obama is just repeating what the teachers already say. I do not believe it will make an increase in a student's work ethic. In my opinion, he wants teenagers to think that he is such an amazing man just so he will receive their votes in the 2012 presidentian election.
I believe that president obama's speech was extremely awesometastic and that he is doing the right thing by talking to us students about school and the economy because we have the right to know what is going on in the whitehouse . I do not thing his comments were offensive at all because we need to know about these things even though he didn't focus on school enough.
I think that it's okay that President Obama is telling us to stay in school but, he should tell us that if you drop out of school you aren't making the right choice. So then you aren't going to make enough money while working at McDonald's or Burger King to support your family or help your parents when they get older. So then you will run out of money before you can even spend it and it's all because you dropped out high school and didn't go to college.
The youth now a days aren't very aware of the outside world as they should. Most of us are more focused on what happens on our favorite TV shows than what could be happening that will effect us in real life. President Obama is really trying to do a good thing here. I just think that it is taking time out of a learning school day, kids go to school to learn NOT to listen to the president talking about our education system.

i have seen the speech and personally, i thought it was very encouraging. He gave examples of his life that tells you about him going through school, and what he said made a lot of sense. I heard people in my class saying they thought it was a waste of time... but truthfully, i thought it was great. Presedent Obama would not have done this speech if he didn't think it was worth it or important to us. As an 8th grader, I thought the speech made perfect sense and it really helped me understand how important this FREE education really is in my life!

I personally think that Barack Obama is just turning to the students of America to help fix the economy. I mean think about it he wants us to good in school so when we graduate high school we go to college and take out a 40,000 dollar loan and spend the next eight years in our profession paying this 8.5% interest loan back. Okay. What's the deal with all these media-types (also Glenn Beck) getting all bent outta shape with this speech? THERE WAS NOTHING BUT VAGUE ENCOURAGEMENT. How could someone possibly get the impression that he had some secret agenda with all this?
Principals across the nation gave similar speeches to their students, and people support them, even other presidents did the same thing and were supported for it, but why now is there so much criticism for the current president. It should be the same as what other presidents have done, we should have supported him, instead of isolating our minds, or even in some cases people have isolated their CHILDREN from hearing the president asking students to try their best and achieve their goals. Everyone, young or old should have heard that speech.
i think that the presidents speach was a good idea his purpose was to motivate students nothing else...im not sure why people woudnt let their students or kids watch it even if they dont like him he is still the president and people should respect that
If i could watch i would, but my lack of TV or internet (at home) is a problem. But i think it would be nice to watch i could use a little pep talk to actually get me....to do better...in school...
Obama will not be able to change a student's mind about dropping out of school. It's just another speech that students will either watch or won't watch.

I think it was just anather speech he makes to try to make kids that are about to become the age to vote for him elect him agian for presedent. I mean ower parents tellto get good grades.

We got to watch the speech in school today. It really was a good speech! I enjoyed it!
I give my props to President Obama for at least trying to tell us kids about the importance of education. But, overall I really did like the speech
I'm not going to watch his speech because I think the government needs to stay out of our business and understand that a simple speech and a few compliments isn't going to keep naturally unmotivated and bored students from dropping out of school.
i think the speech is impotant because millions of kids drop out of school every year maybe our pressidents speech will motavate peopleto stay in school.
I am in High school and watched it class. I thought he spoke very well and addressed students as students. He also did an excellent job personalizing the speech. Over all I think he did wonderfully.
