President Obama has a back-to-school speech coming up on Tuesday. We'd like to know your thoughts about it: Does it make a difference to you that the president is specifically addressing students, or does this seem like just another speech? Are you planning to watch it, either at school or on your own? And will hearing the president speak about the importance of staying in school influence you to do it?
Carl Azuz, Anchor
I think That it will be a thought out speech about school and will try to watch it if not watched at school.dont know why he is giving a back to school speech when it like the Fourth week back to school.
Obama is not my favorite president but i will watch the speech simply because he is the president. And i think he will make some interesting points whether i agree with them or not.
Well I am planning to watch at school it because it is the speech of our president. However, I think that the speech can't influence many students because it is a choice that the students should make them selves.
My school is having us watch the speech on education with the middle and high school, it's going to be boring. zzzzzzzzzzz
I believe it's just a speech considering it comes so late in the time where Obama isn't doing that well with the public, but I am interested in what he'll have to say to determine falsehood or none.
I think it's silly that people are becoming so angered over the president speaking to students... many presidents before have. Additionally, it's baffling to me why any parent is opposed to the president encouraging their children to do well in school and set educational goals.
I have read the President’s speech and I agree with his comments. I am a conservative republican and I did not find any problem with what the President will say in his speech to the students. There is no brainwashing or indoctrination in his comments. We have problems in our schools and that needs to change.
Are we becoming so stupid in this country that commonsense has disappeared? There are too many people that are blindly following people who have their own agenda.
There are too many checks and balances in place in our system of government to protect us against some of the ridiculous statements such as Obama wants to become a dictator and our government will turn into the communist government. If we allow that happens, we the people have failed.
Yes, I have problems with some of his policies but I will not listen to this craziness that has been put forward lately. We are spending too much time on these petty side issues, instead of getting down to the business of making this country better.
Honestly, there shouldn't be any big controversy over a speech the president hasn't made yet unless it contains something truly controversial. Whether or not anyone personally likes the President or not, it is your duty as an American to listen and respect him, after that you have the right to not keep it to heart. I do indeed planning on listening to my Commander In Chief speak and will be listening to hear what he has to say. (Support America.)
The excuses many parents are giving about not wanting their children to hear the presidents message is utterly ridiculous. Even if he was to mention an agenda (which I highly doubt) what would be so different about the history books many of the same children are forced to read!
I would listen to it, because I believe it's important to listen to what the president wants to say. My belief is that it's silly to purposely ignore words Obama took time and effort to put together. He's a very busy man, and still he did work that he didn't have for children, the country's future. It wouldn't hurt to hear something that is directed at us. The speech shows that he cares. After all, the president has kids of his own. I think it's unfair for people to judge Obama when we haven't even seen it yet; it could be the greatest speech since Martin Luther King!!
It's really no big deal to me. It is just a regular speech. People have problem with it are usually southern republicans who are aganist the president in the first place. We students are people and can make our descesions. We are not easily brainwashed.
I think it is absurd that people are so upset about this speech. I wonder how many of these same people would object if this were President McCain giving the same speech. Paranoia is a funny thing. It seems to selectively surface – don't question the President's motives or information when he wages an illegal war, but throw a fit when another President wants to talk to children about staying in school and persistence to graduation.
We are not watching it at school but I will watch it at home because it is important to me. I wouldn't vote for Obama if he made us go to school year round.
Even if your political party is different than the President's, you should still watch the speech because Mr. Obama is our President. You don't know if you may share some of the same ideas even if you are not in his political party.
You should watch the speech because Obama ROCKS!!!
I am home schooled so i wouldn't really watch the video
I think the president is trying to help but people are taking it the wrong way. And plus if it was political then the kids would still be learning!!!
I hate it when people think that someone is doing wrong when they are actually helping!!!!!!
"I think its a good idea...he is influencing the children to be good"
"A good idea because the President is taking time out of his schedule to care about us."
"My Dad said students do not have to watch it...it might be brainwashing them"
"Hopefully we have less people drop out and not work at bad jobs"
I am going to watch it!!!!!!!
I think we should watch the speech because im sure it will be informational for every student.
I think that if we had scool year-round many students would complain and many would go mad.
I honestly believe that our President has our(as in the students) education in mind. He's just voicing his concern about our education. I do not think he is planning to make this a political concern, he's just looking out for the future education of students.
I think it would be a good idea to have year around school because we would still get breaks on the weekend and also still get breaks through out the year. LETS GO ALL AROUND SCHOOL YEAR!!!!!!!!!
To me, it seems like this is just another speech. I personaly don't care what the president has to say because it seems like he is only trying to talk to adults over 21. I'm tired of the government not understanding us students and how we feel.
I think that the presidents speach is ok but i feel that he should be extra careful of what he says becouse it could be potentially influencial
I cannot help but think that most of the controversy behind the president’s speech is driven by pure racism. I simply do not think that if McCain had won the election and were addressing students today about the importance of staying in school that we would be seeing all the same fervor. Where is the respect for the office of the presidency? It is appalling that in a democracy there are entire school systems that are telling teachers that they may not show their own president in their own classrooms!
Okay now this is ridicules! Come on people it's a speech, on education! Its not like the president is using scientists to send mind- warping airwaves through the computer. Some of the children might not even know what he's talking about and some of them might not even care. I don't see what the big fuss is about. Watch it, don't watch it who cares! Chill out people! Relax, breath, calm down. Let's not make a fuss over this SPEECH!!!
"too big of a deal"
"we should have waited to hear the speech until we judge the motives behind it."
"It's not bad..it's basically a good message."
Some people ars just crazy when that women that was up there crying over something that was not even that serious they should just get a life if this is the only thing that you cry about
WOW! im really happy how many people decided to watch the speech!
"Its a good idea because it explains the importance of school" – Palmer
"He should not make us watch it" -Robby
"It isn't a good idea because we hear this stuff from everybody everyday"-Chandler
"Its a good idea because if we hear it from the President we might do it"-Quentze
"If the President is a good example it helps us be better" -Patrick
"Yes we hear from everybody but we don't listen to everybody...the president is talking directly to us not adults...that is cool" Savannah
"He sets a great example"- Quentin
"This gives little kids something to look up to"-Jasmin
No i am not going to watch it because it would be boring and i don't think it will motivate students
it is just a speech chill
i would watch it, but then i would say my opinion on what he says... i don't judge people by what other people say or what they do before i know more about them..
I think that if some one doesn't want they kid to watch it then they should not have to.
It might influence me, but that is for me to decide. I will stay in school anyway, whether or not I listen to Obama's education speech. I might not like school, but it is necessary.
I think it is important for the students to be aware and involved in eduction and what the President has to say about it.
I think you should have a choice or vote to see if they want to watch the video or not
i think we should watch the speech so we will know where the depression is takink us
I don't get why he has to talk to students about their education it is up to them.
It might influence the students who watch it.Im in school now so i may have to watch it. There may be some important things Obama has to say. But I think parents think that Obama is going to tell us something to tell the students.
It doesn't matter to me, but we should have a choice if we want to watch it or not. The President should be cautious about what he says though, if he says the wrong thing some people may be offended. Would you like to watch something that offends you?
I think its completely pointless. He should know that kids don't care about his speech and would rather sit bored in class than listen to some speech. People are overreacting about this saying that it could harm the students when it can't, its just that nobody wants to watch it
Our school is watching it, i really dont want to because i really dont like our president, and now we have to listen to him talk...BORING!
Yes, I am interested in what he will say. it's not like he will say something bad or something...
i am not looking forward on watching the speech, but i do think that some people are making to big of a deal about it.
i am not going to be watching it because i dont have to be talked to about my goals and to stay in school because kids that drop out are lazy and are usually on something and i have my own goals so i dont need to hear it from another person!
I think it was good because I would want to know first hand.
Yes, it kind of makes the child feel important and involved rather than getting second hand news from parents. i think it is very important and a vital part of being a citizen and all he is trying to do is inform the youth of what they need t know. i also believe people are being racists as well because i think that no other president felt concern for future legislators and presidents that ARE today's youth.
I do not know why there is so much controversy over the speech when he hasn't made it yet. I will try to watch it because it is meant to motivate students to get into college due to high dropout rates. Not to talk about politics.
Yes I would and will watch it. I would like to hear what he has to say. I think it is important for students to be aware and involved in their future.
i am not that interstread in the obama speach but i will listen to it because i rather not sit in the meida center all the time that he is talking
i would love to see this
we wanted to say that we care if obama talks to us. he is the president and he want to help our decressing drop out rate. he says he has a plan and i think we should hear it.
i think its a good idea. i dont ever think that a presedent has ever spoke to students.i think its nice that a presedent has time to speak to students so now we kno we matter to so thank you Mr presedent
"Its a good idea because it will help raise some student's self esteem"-Aurburn
"Good idea because it will help the students feel that the President is supporting them"- Chakilah
"Hi Mom"- Tyler
"This will take away class time"-unknown
President Obama's speech seems more like a call for students that are 18 by the time of the next election to vote for him. He wants to put the image that he is the right candidate for the next election. He shouldn't be trying to corrupt the mind of younger children.
I dont really mind, i would watch it just to say I watched it, but i dont really care about the speech all that much, if the obama speech is put up at my school so I have to watch it, I guess ill watch it, either way I dont really care about it.
i will not be watching obamas speech.I disagree with everything that man has to say.In my own opinion i do not feel that his speech obout education will make a differnce in the nation.
Its a dumb speech. Its not like he will be telling the kids that Republicans are bad or that they need to do this to live right. He is just encouraging us to stay in school and do our work. as long as he doesnt mention anything about the health care reform or any other politics then thats okay with me.
I’m not gonna watch the speech because I don’t really want too. But some kids agree with this speech or whatever its about, I don’t really understand what he is trying to say. But I think that sometimes he has a point with all of the different things he says.
I am not planning on watching Obama's speech. I really dont think him telling kids to stay in school will make a differance because students have had people sence they were little telling them to stay in school, but it still doesnt change their minds.
I will probobaly watch the speach. I think Obama is a very charasmatic man therefore I want to here what he has to say. As long as he stays on the topic of staying in school instead of healthcare, I'm all ears.
Why would anyone even care in the slightest that this speech is directed at students? It’s a speech. He makes these all the time. How is it that just because his educational speech is focused on the people who it’s intended to affect this speech is somehow a horrible and frightening thing?
i think Obama is the man! He's ridiculosly good looking, rad, and smart. if he wants to preach to the kids, i say preach it brothern. But fer real, let the man do his job. stop critisizing him. i mean, hes the president d00d. just chill. he's raising minumum wage for folks. you should be stoked.
I think our school should have let us watch the speech, but nope our school is just full of ignorant people and what not, think they know it all and what’s better, sometimes someone else’s opinion counts too and specially if it’s the US president. I don’t get why there’s anger and controversy, it’s a motivational speech.
He had some great points in his speech. But it depends on who the person is and how you take the message. Obama is a great President some people just don't give him enough credit where it is due. Remember Bush is out of office now so he has to do the best he can to fix what Bush did.
I think that the president might be sending a good message but i really dont want to here it cause until he puts his self in the possition of the kids his speech is directed at it will be uneffective.it wont change mucch just because the prsident says so....
I consider President Obama’s speech to be just another speech. Typically I don’t go out and watch presidential speeches, because they tend to be dry and boring, no matter the audience. It doesn’t matter to me that he is addressing student, but now that there is so much controversy behind the speech, I might watch it online.
I think this speech is going to be very diverse then most of his common ones. First of all it is addressed to the student body. I was planning on watching it on my own time just to see what the speech is about. Seeing as I have stayed in school since the age of 4 I think it will not influence me much as I have already decided.
Obama’s speech will not have a big effect on me seeing how I have stayed in school for twelve years. I plan to go to college and I don’t need any motivation. It probably will be good for schools that have a high dropout rate as long as they leave out politics. I will most likely watch the speech, but I might not finish it. haha
I think that it is a good idea that the President is speaking to us students but the timing is off. He should of picked a time where there isn’t much to get done. I plan on watching it when I get home tonight. And I plan on staying in school anyways weather the president says to or not because if I drop out my mom would kick my butt.
I really don't care nothing about school or what he has to say. Me and my family stand where we want to we don't need to be judged by someone else. I am the first person on my father's side of the family to go to high school, and I wrather waste my time doing something I am interested in. Obama might be president, but he ain't no beter than me.
i thing is good for the students because the president is a important person to give a speech to the students.
I don’t think I’m going to watch it. I feel like it’s just another speech that he is going to give, but this time he just give in the school. So mostly people said he is going to give a speech that not about education, because you know right now we have some heath care going on.
To begin, people should be making big deal over this speech. If George Bush addressed students when he was president, every liberal would be up in arms. The video is just propaganda to try to save his corrupt and failing regime. The people that are witholding their children are not racist, they just care for their children's well being.
I think it wont do any good for the president to talk to the students. Students are more likely to do something if there put under pressure, thats another reason that students drop out of school they get behind. Some students dont learn as quick as others.
what I think, I think that should be great for kids who love school. And me.
My thoughts about the speech are, Even tho coming from the president I do not think the speech is going to change very much if anything at all. It seems to me that the addressing is just another speech. I am planning to watch it school because my princeable put it on but I did not mind.
I dont think that the presadint speach just a nother speach because he is talking about us when we grow up what we want to do yes i did wath it it was a good speach
President Obama's speech was insightful, humble and pragmatic. He successfully conveyed the importance of an education to both personal and communal success, and how perseverance despite hurdles is essential to that education.
If anyone still has a problem with his speech, they're probably just looking for a fight no matter what, much like "toxic" thugs who would beat a man just for smiling at them.
He should make sure it is appropriate for young kids.
"It's good because students deserve a connection to the President instead of him just talking to adults"-Samantha
"I think it needs to be heard...cause it good for the nation"-Takia
"People do not want their kids to be all political..."-Farrah
"Some parents do not want their kids invovled with politics"- Tevin
i think it is good that the president is caring about kids. It is important that this generation succeeds on a whole because the government needs new ideas now more than ever. The state of things can get worse if this generation can't step up to the challenge!
Chills. Our president wrote this speech trying to get us to stay in school because we are the future, and we have the chance to become something great. Our world has many problems, and if we get a good education, we can make it better. It makes me want to get an education if my president wants me to stay in school.
I already watched it.......GREAT SPEECH....!
i have nothing to do with things such as geting mad over a speach
I was forced to watch Obama's speech at my school. I was reading a book and my teacher told me to put it up. My family is not into Obama's speeches or anything he saids.
i watched it and i thank it was insorationle to some in class but he didnt say any thang negitiv or inapropreit that my parents dont want me to hear.that mom just did not like obama and that was it
No. yes i plan to watch the speech.yes it will.
the president's was mainly so boring and i really could understand the message because the camera man was just going to the audience but if i was paying attention to it was a good message .I agreed to what he was saying.
Ok I understand why some people do not agree with Obama, personally i do not agree with some of the stuff he says. But that lady that was crying over her children watching his speech was over reacting. I mean he didn't say anything at all that she hasnt told her kid before, I bet. if she really didn't want her kid to watch it keep them out of school or send a note tothe school saying she don't want them to watch it. But for her to get on public T.V. and start crying about it was a littlle much.
I think the presidents speech was very inspiring and I dont see what any problem with showing this speech to students. It has a great message and i think everyone should hear this, it will improve the childrens behavior.
i think that nothing is wrong with obama wanting to the children about thier future;I can see if he up thier saying that they have to give up education and go work in the fields.
i can see both sides; obamam wants kids to stay in school so he sends them a speech no one can complain about that; but when he starts bringing polatics into it and has the curiculum that askes the kids what they can do for the president is not acceptable.
Well, I'm not the government's biggest fan or anything but I am totally watching the speech. And even if this speech is about politics I think the schools should air it in school. After all, it is directed towards students.
i liked obamas speech he's like our teacher telling us to do right things not wrong things
That lady that cried, she was stupid, trippin. It was not legit. Carl Azuz for president..
I have not listened to the speech yet but I'm sure that Obama made some valid points. I can't believe that people are some people are mad that he is doing this. If the president doens't support education in America, then why would anyone else care about education. Obama is now the most powerful person in the entire world so if he didn't support education and make speeches like his welcome back speech that is supposedly controversial, then no one would care about education
I think even though parents don't allow there kids to watch the speech they should watch it in there classrooms. My teacher says it's a wonderful speech, even though my parents didn't vote for him I'LL WATCH HIS SPEECH!!!
Our class watched the speech. Here are some of our thoughts.
" I think Obama gave a great speech because he was influencing our future." Claudia
" Some kids don't care about school. " Harrison
" Don't give up on school so you can get a good job." Juliya
" I was touched by the story of his life as a young boy." Angela
" I would like to grow up to be successful like Obama. " Zach
It is good to know that president cares about are education!!!!
Im not watching because i think its just a scam to get everyone to realect him.
I think that what the president said was just another speech. He told us things that we have been told our entire lives. We know we're the future and we know we should strive to better ourselves for it and stay in school. The only difference is that instead of being lectured by our teachers about this, Obama is taking their place.
I watched the President's speech and I thought that it was pretty good. I think as a kid it is important to know that your education affects a lot of your future. Great speech.
I do not understand why some parents are getting all bent out of shape about the president speaking to their kids. The video Carl did said it was because they didn't want Obama talking about politics to their kids. But he isn't going to talk about politics: he's going to talk about staying and school and the importance of pushing yourself to get good grades and make a better future for yourselves. Even if it was about politics, what's wrong with that? They already teach us about politics in school, and besides, learning about politics will help us with being a good citizen when we are old enough to vote. I plan to wacth Obama's speech for sure.
I think us kids should watch it. If you dont want your kids to watch it let them stay home. I think if we don't watch it, they'll (the school) will just be teaching us how to hate (on people) and what they do.
I think it is just another speech. Maybe some of it has to do with school, but I'm pretty sure there is more to it. I think he is also putting some politics in with the educational issue. I am planning to watch it, put I think it's not going to be much different than what I've heard before-
I think that President Obama is just trying for us students to get going with our school work. America is a great country and we are falling behind academically. We are behind countries that we helped start their education. I also think that the Republicans are over reacting, just like every thing else these days. I mean, come on! A lady crying over her kids watching a speech? They see worse things on T.V.!
i thnk it is fine for us to hear abiut this stuff. we have a right to know.
i think we should at least have a choice to listen to it. we have a right to know. it is not about politics. we should be able to watch it.
I watched President Obama's speech and I believe that his speech was towards the students of America but, It seemed that Obama's speech was more about helping then nation than students helping themselves.
I don't agree with the presidents decision to speak to the kids at school, if he had to speak he should have given an address where the parents had the power to say they could listen or not.
People get so worked up over the stupidest things. Obama just wants to inspire kids to stay in school, and with the current drop out rate that's a good thing.
I really thank that it is stuped he shud stay at the wite wouse not go to schools and talk to kids that is not right.
i don't think Obma needed to waste his time on the speech because all the teachers should of already talked about it on the first week of school.
I'm not watching. I think that i'ts the school bords job to keep kids in school ,if it gets to much of a problem then Obama can get involed!!!
I think the controversy is unreasonable. I think it is good for our president to talk to us about how important it is for us to succeed and work in school. I understand why some Republicans would not like it if the President talks to us about his political views, but we also need to accept other's ideas.
People are over riacting its not something to cry for he wants to shear and tall us the students how to be some one great in life.
I think we should be watching the address even though many people don't want to. Many people might think it's going to be political, but if you don't feel comfortable with your child watching the speech, don't let them. Let the other kids watch and learn. The only problem is, Obama might have a hidden agenda and turn out talking about politics.
I think the students should watch the speech. 🙂
I don't just believe it is just another speech. Although some points have been told to us our entire lives, it means a lot more that the President is directly addressing the students, and it shows he actually cares about our education.
I don't see what all the uproar is about. A similar speech was made in 1991 by former president George H. W. Bush, and there was little uproar about that. This may be different present day, and it may be linked to another issue in our country, racism.
I just think that kids our age shold be able to choose if they want to watch the speach or not because he is talking to us (the kids).also I dont get why the lady was crying if your kid dosent want to watch the speach it called put your head down
I think the president wants to encourage us to focus on school and learn more. This speech is just a choice for all the students. Whether we listen to it or not is our choice and only ours.
I have already watched this speech in class. The president only wants all the students to have school top priority. Not only this but he also wants less dropouts.
I don't plan on watching the speech, since it's just the President talking to kids about political problems that we kids don't even need to think about till we're older. He's just telling us we are the next generation and that we need to solve all these problems like finding a cure for cancer and to stop war.
i think the speech would help i mean he would not just be holding it if he didnt think it was improntant for us to hear it! come on wow people its not like its going to kill us if we listen to what he has to say. i mean it got something to do with school and us students or he would not say nothing to us!
I personally believe that all students should at least be given the oppurtunity to watch President Obama's speech. Forcing students to watch if they are not interseted is not going to help anyone. Students could go to a certain room depending on if they did or did not want to watch the speech. This is a motivational speech, he is trying to get school age kids to think about their future and set goals. The speech is not about politics, nor is it just for goverment or social studies classes. Not allowing students to watch the speech because of worries about possible political statements is sending the wrong message to today's youth, that you should not listen to people who have different political views or that you should only support our president if you agree with every single thing he does. It is just wrong. People are already showing students to be narrow-minded and not open to the opinons of others. Watching this speech will benefit students, not brainwash them. I don't think that parents should stop their kids from listening too, respecting and/or liking the president. It is up to them to decide what they believe, not their parents.
If the president is addressing the students then students should listen. I don't plan to watch it, however if the president I know the importance of education. Hearing the president speak about it will definitely motivate me even more to stay in school.
I saw the speech it was very interresting. I learned that you have to work
to succeed.
I don't think that kids need to hear a speech about staying in school. We all know to stay in school.
As a student, it was pretty pathetic to see these GOP people scaring everything up. Because our president is HALF-black, anyone who doesn't have an ounce of color in them think it's alright to disrespect the man who IS our PRESIDENT. He was addressing us, the students. Not you, the parents. I don't like the idea that no one is supporting the man who is up there, running our country. President Obama was encouraging us– No. CHALLENGING us to stay in school. To be the first to graduate in our families if that's the case. He's right. There is NO excuse for children to be out of school. As the future of this country, you "parents" need to stop brainwashing your kids into thinking that we shouldn't have faith in our President. Just because he isn't McCain, doesn't mean that he's a bad person. Quit being so narrow minded. If anything, our country isn't progressing forward with our battle with acceptance, especially if hysterical mom's who are shown on t.v. are crying because our President wanted to address us. We're people too, and I appreciate the fact that President Obama took the time to talk to US. The FUTURE of the United States of America. Side note: For all of those who are waiting for the change Obama is bringing, things don't happen over night. His first year isn't even close to over. So, respect the man we call our President, he has the hardest job you can think of. It isn't easy to run an entire country– and if you think it is, why don't you run for Presidency instead of bad-mouthing the man who stepped up to the challenge.
If you know you're the future, then why don't you embrace. With the underlying smell of "racism", it's funny to see how the GOP can bring back all the hype that shouldn't exist at all. History repeats itself, but up to this point, this is the first President that most conservatives took the time to disrespect because he was speaking to us, the students and not you, the parents.
This is the same Leila as earlier. I think that it is crazy that in this nation where we choose our own president, that we appointed this great man, Obama, yet we still do not trust him. When we elected President Obama, we gave him certain responsibilities. We have to trust him to fulfill his duties. I think that it is crazy that we don't trust him to give a speech to the children of our country, even after he put the speech on the internet so that we could view it and see that there is nothing political about it. The whole speech is trying to inspire kids to stay in school, and when I read it, I found it very enlightening. I am disappointed that people in this "great nation" do not trust their leader to try and convince kids that getting an education is worth it; that he believes in them.
I'm a 6th grader and I believe it is idiotic for parents to not let their children watch Pres. Obama's speech. I have reason to believe that when the President says that he's going to talk about education, he will talk about education and not other matters. My mom is a teacher and he didn't say anything that she wouldn't tell me or her students and nobody boycotts her. I loved the speech and I'm glad that the President of the United States would take the time to talk to the nation's students.
yes i will watch it this is going to be a great speech president Obama wants us kids to go to school and make something of ourselves some parents are jus taking it the wrong way and some just have their opinions my opinion is that this is great experience for kids Obama wants us to work hard and reach our goals to become successful citizens
I think people are being very childish about this situation.
Obama is just trying to adress students to what they need to do.
I really don't see anything wrong with this speech , I really think it's just a racist thing going on , and people are using that as an excuse .
But there's nothing anyone can do. He's the PRESIDENT OF THE U.S.A!!!
My school is not watching the speech and i personaly think its stupid. President Obama is making an effort to talk to us students about how important is it to stay in school and try hard. I think parents are complaining and not wanting us to watch is because they are afraid we are going think he is a good president. Its not like he is talking about politics or anything. He is our president and i think wether you like him or not we should respect him and watch the speech.
The woman on here most be very stupid...He is just trying to help students and I personaly think she was on something for just saying something so stupid!BUt i like the speech and im encouraged to do it!
I had a student last year who thought that no one had it as rough as him and had a huge chip on his shoulder. It won't come as any surprise that his most used quote was, "Who cares, I'm dropping out anyway." He experiences many of the same things that the President related today about himself. Those situations are real and I am thankful we have a President who will humble himself enough to relate to kids who need to know someone who overcame the odds 'has been there'. I couldn't do that because I had relatively few hardships in my youth and I can only sympathize. I feel very fortunate that our school participated in listening to the speech and that my student heard his words in his ears. I'm thankful to be backed up by a man such as him. I trusted him to say heartfelt, inspiring, and encouraging things to my students and my child. He did not disappoint.
I think the kids should choose if they want to watch it but if they don't they shouldn't be forced to.
I think the president should give the children the speech. He has two of his own , and he cares about the children of the u.s . If the president didn;t care about us he wouldn't have had the speech. We should be thankful he cares about us . He cares so much gave up his valuble time to give the speech to us .And are class IS watching the speech.
I think there were ups and downs to the speech, but for the most part i was cool. Some people had to leave, watch I don't under stand. Hearing the speech was like a journey inthe past and the future.
It's absolutely ridiculous that some people make a large fuss over such a small thing. He is, after all, the leader of our country. His message to us students was not to change our political opinion of him, but to encourage our education and to give us words of wisdom. I will admit he is not one of my favorite presidents, but I listened to what words he had to offer us.
I think that if you keep up with the news, politics, and such you should be developing your own opinion. You should be able to choose whether you want to watch or not.
people are being raceists and that lady crying was just wanting to set conflict the speech is awsom and relax its just a speech if maccain had givin the speech i bet evry school in the u.s would watch it people are just being raceists.
Barack Obama is the president. People should respect him. It can't hurt to show a speech to students. It had nothing to do with politics and most kids thought it was time well spent. George Bush talked to the students, why cant President Obama? That lady in the video had no idea what she was talking about and that is why my whole class laughed at her.
Obama was elected to be the leader of our country, and this does include kids, so when he takes his position as an encouraging leader to school students citizens shouldn't really stop them just because of their bias's against him
I think it is okay if he only talks about stating in school if he talks about politics it is wrong.
Mr. Perez's class, I think that every student should have been exposed to the speech. The speech was inspiring towards obtaining a higher and greater education. The speech was very motivating. I have been motivated to stay in school and learn harder than before. The fact that the president, the leader of the free world is addressing the students of his own country is saying something about the educational system in the country.
The speech that Obama gave was inspiring to me because now I know I have to work hard to suceed in what I want. Some parents didn't take there kids to school because they said that they didn't want there kids to here all that political issues. In my opinion I think all the kids should of had the oportunity to here Obama's speech because of the interest he had towards kids and their future.
well im goin to see the speech, but i think he should give the speech because its talking about education and the students need to hear what he's going to say to us.So i think its important for him to do the speech.
thank you!
I dont understand what the big controversy is over the speech. All past presidents have done the same thing. My family is republican, and i watched the speech and there was nothing political about it. It was acually very inspiring.
I personally think this will be a professional speech set in due with an underlining secret agenda. Hidden within his speech will be ques on his own political polices to beguile the student population.
it is like a speech to do well we all heard it many times before no differents
yes because he tells us about how he only had a mother andhe made he did make mistakes but he still tried and keep going
Well, since the president is the president, we gotta respect him right? Well it doesn't mean I'm supporter of Mr. Obama and his health care reforms but you know we gotta give him a chance. Otherwise he could fail in other successive reforms that would change the global history forever and resign like Bush who just now is tuning up his guitar with Laura at the other end of the room pouting.
i think this is just another speech but it also can help schools, childrens and even parents, because if their kids dont want to go to school it may or may not make them want to go.
Carl im a freshman up at the highschool this year. The last thing i wanna hear from the president is a speech about school. I think he needs to focus more on health first before he thinks about doin the education system.

In our small classroom, some of us feel that the Obama's speech gave encouragement to those who felt they didn't have a chance of succeeding, some others of us feel the opposite, thinking that some students will go to college and others do have plans to.
This Speech is just like every speech I think that we should speak for our selves.
Obama's speech is definitely not just an ordinary speech. He is one great example of how education had changed his path to presidency: a drug addict from a Columbia graduate lawyer. Therefore, his speech clearly shows that he cares about education and wants students to lead the "future." Although some people may criticize him for talking to students, I would love to hear from him in my class.
I think that it is another speach, he is just trying to tell us to stay in school, but i will watch it because i want to know what Pres. Obama wants to say.
Honestly, what Obama does does not really matter to me. This is just another speech, and if I can help it, I won't watch it. It would be pointless to see what I already know. The president is an arrogant fool and I don't want to know what he has to say to us.
I personally don’t believe he should make a speech. There is absolutely no need for one. No other president has done this and why should Obama? I just think that it was a waste of valuable school time and that stuff he said has already been told to us by our parents.
I dont really care but I think that it is good that he is not only talking about problems with grownups because kids do need to be able to get an education and some kids cant because they cant afford to pay for the college. But if I have time I would watch it .
What’s the big deal it is just a speech. I mean watch it and he just says that we need to stay in school. What now people are getting mad someone is telling us to stay in school and do well? What’s up with that? I mean either way It might help kids it might not.
It’s obserred that some people make a large fuss over such a small thing. President Obama's message was to inform students about education responsibility and not to change our political opinion of him. Obama was encouraging us to make educated desicions to better our future.
I think that he can make speeches about whatever he wants, but that won't change how students feel about him or any of the political things he's talking about. They do not effect me so why should we get lectured on it over and over again. If he talks about education and better our ways to get a better education then that's fine with me.
I think the speech was going to be about health care and all that other stuff until people started complaining. Then Obama just changed his speech to talk about the good of schools. I don't think he flew all the way to Virgina just to talk about school kids. And what was up with him not suluting the trrops in that video?
The speech that Obama made was just trying to get people to stay in school and not drop out. Because people shouldn’t have to watch the speech because If they don’t go to school that’s their problem. All Obama is trying to do is persuading students to stay in school. That way they can learn what they need to know.
What I thought about Obama's speech is quite good but it's not the best speech he ever made but it's the best for speaking to children.
i really did not care for the speach but since it was on the news i guess that i have to watch it because the whole class does so i have to also
Some people think it is just a speech but i tkink he is telling kids to concentrate in school. So i think it is not just another speech.
If you want to watch the speech then you can watch it no one needs to force you to do anything it's your own right on weather or not u want to watch. The school can't make you.
I liked the speech about Obama because he doesn’t have to use a piece of paper to remember what he said. And I like that about him.
I also liked what he said about Michael Jordan.
I liked how he said that Michael Jordan could miss a thousand shots but my did not care and he succeeded at almost everything that he did.
Barack Obama is a great president.
I wish that he could come here to speak for us like does for the other school.
I hope he goes eight years because I like barrack Obama.
And I think he will succeed at almost everything like Michael Jordan did.
Oboma visit schools all over the world. He wrote a student note.
He has a speech for all the kids.He wrote a book for kids.
The president's speech is imporant to the whole world. If you are not paying attention you should really be paying attention to the speech .I know this speech is going to be important to me and many other kids all around the world. I know alot of you will watch the speech. I hope you guys will enjoy the speech.
Yesterday, I watched Obama's speech.
There is a little confusion with that I want to learn .
More then 85% don't want to stay in school .
There're more that don't want to not learn more than do.
Iwant to say about that is that more that the students that can learn & that can be part of the future but there will be a lot .
That will be in the smart part of the future .
Yesterday, I watched president Obama’s speech. I think it helps people stay in school. I think he was saying move forward and put the past behind me. I am not going to give up on myself. I like that he said we should take care of our selves and wash our hands to keep everyone healthy. I will follow his advice and get teachers to help me keep my goals.
i think its so stupid and a waste of school time there kids that wants to learn but whatever. I think the president is stupid he's going to waste our tax money for stupid thinks......
President Obama's speech made me think a little differently about school and how it will affect my education. I may not like it now, but it will pay off in the long run ahead.
i think that the speech was inspiring and every school should listen to it because if the president says you can do it then you should know you can do it
I will not watch the president’s speech because I don’t think it is right that the president addresses the kids in school. I would not watch the speech because I also don’t support president Obama. This just distracts kids from learning. I think Georgia should outlaw this also.
The president’s speech is not that important for starting back to school. The speech will not make a difference in the school rules. I am not planning on watching the speech. I also think it will not help me or other kids stay in school. It is almost like what a parent would tell you.
I do not think it should matter if the president makes a speech to high school students because it is just informing us about the drop-out rate and the importance of staying in school. Of course it should be the schools choice to watch it but no one needs to make a big deal out of it if the school decides to.
I don't think it matters wether the president addresses us about education, or teachers. What they have to say will be the same, stay in school, and things like that, which are obvious things. I'm not planning to watch it because my school isn't showing it and I'm not going to watch it at home.
The president's speach doesnt seem very important to me. I know that I will do good in school and I don't think that I need someone that I don't even trust trying to give me advice. Obama's speech, to me, is irrelative.
I didn't want to watch the speech during school because if all he was going to tell us was to study hard and to stay in school then i wasn't going to waste my time. Since that was the only reason he wanted to talk to us then i felt as if out teachers already tell us that every day as well as our parents so the speech had absolutely no meaning to me.
I dont see what the point is in watching the speech. He is trying to talk about what he can do to help us. He is wasting our school time by making us watch him. I would rather be in class than watch his speech.
I had planned to watch President Obama's speech, however my school planned differently. We were not given the option. I feel like it was addressed to students about school so we should have watched it at school.
I believe that it should not be such a big deal that he is making a speech to the students. He is not advocating his party or any political issues, but instead he is talking about how we as American students need to try harder and do better because of all the competition from Asia and Europe. In my opinion it is the parents who are taking this out of perspective. They are not in favor of him and believe that he may say something political that they do not agree in so they are making a huge deal about this. I think it is a great idea that he is doing this and that it could help to encourage some students to try harder to succeed.
I think that Obama should have given his speech but he should have also informed the parents about what the speech was for. I also think that the schools deciding whether the kids would watch it was the right thing to do. The schools staff are the real people who help the kids so they should have the biggest say in whether or not the kids watch the video.
I don't like Obama and I don't like what he does. I will not listen to his speech because he is feeding us a whole bunch of lies. He has spent more money than any other president and I have completely lost all respect I had for him. I will not listen to anything he has to say, and neither will many other people.
But I would still go home and watch the saying. We know when to study and not to study. They should choose if they want to hear it or not. We know how to do our school work Obama doesn’t have to tell us to.
I think that the president wants to encourage us to work and learn more in school.
I do not want to watch the president’s speech. It does not really matter to me that he is just is just trying to talk to kids instead of adults. It does not seem like he is trying to talk to just students. I think of it just as another speech the president is making. I think that the president trying to influence kids to stay in school will not make a difference. If someone is going to drop out, then they will still drop out.
I think that the Presidents speech to the nation’s students should be made mandatory. Because most kids don’t watch the news at home and are not up to date on events that are going on in the world or in America. They only know what their parents say and I think that their opinions on the president and other political issues are solely based on their parent’s opinions not theirs. So the presidential address to the students should be made mandatory to help students who don’t watch the news form their own opinion on things.
President Obama’s speech to the students is a good idea, but It’s not that important to me. Personally I think that If you want to hear the speech then you should and if you don’t want anything to do with it then you’re not forced to hear it so it shouldn’t matter to most people. Some people are going crazy over it but it’s simple, all you have to do is not watch it or make your kids not watch it. It’s your opinion.
To me it's just another speech. We know what he is going to talk about , students that drop out of school and how its important to stay in school. Maybe i will watch it and it really doesnt make a difference to me because i will stay in school.
Teachers should pay more attention to students:-)
Its just another speech to me I couldn't care less
I don't think President Obama is trying to recruit any voters at all. What i got from the video is that he wants everyone whether they are going through a hard time or not to just make sure they are getting the best out of their education and get the education after 12th grade that maybe some of our parents didn't get.
I think that Barack Obama's speach was very awsome because he gave us some great advice like, he told us that once we do something wrong we know that next time we try we know to do something different.
i dont know what people are making all this fuss about i think the speech was fine, i liked it
Why should kids need to know that we need to excell in school. Don't kids already get that from there teachers and parents? Kids shouldn't learn about politics unless they are interseted in it. I personally don't want to learn about politics, not even from the president of the U.S.
Obama is a great president, but we have heard this a few times. He is just trying to make a difference in this world. So he will talk about politics.
i think that the speech the prez is giving to the schools is good. parents think that he is gonna try to push poloticsd on their children. well they are wrong. he is encouraging students to do well acidimeclly in school. people shouldn't judge b4 they know whats gonna happen so that's all i hav 2 say
I think that the speech helped alot of kids to work harder in school.I also think it helped kids not drop out of high school and college.
I believe that everyone is making a big deal out of the speech, Obama is our president and i think that he should be treated like one. I am not a big fan of Obama but you know what can I do about it. Obama did'nt mean to harm any one he just let us know hey this is whats going on. I'm watching the speech on friday and i think that us kids should be thankful that he is alerting us on things. I know i'm not into alot of politics but is really it's not politics it's people judging things as they see not for what it is thats why I think it's great that he is alerting us.
I think that it is nice that he is doing that for us and i agreed with him that kids should stay in school.:)
I say its just another speech!Even though he is not the president I wanted ,he is the president and I should listen to him.
I don't see why some people are haveing this big controversy over why obama's speech is about politics, Its not its about YOUR education and the future of america., even though he isn't my favorite president.
Every student in the nation should have seen that speech. It was very inspirational.
i think hes just giving us the same old speach that everyone eles gives us.
i think that it should be ok to have obama to come to schools and tell them to there best but if it's anything about politics them it's not ok at all
i think that i is a good thing that president obama is doing the speech because this might motivate students to learn more cause the president is helping with it........
the president stated some very important issues such as "the kids must stay in school" I believe in what he said, but he can understand how we feel and how hard it might be sometimes for us to stay in school.
I, like other kids, as unable to hear the president's speech and am wondering what he said but from what I hear, it was a good speach. I guess if I had a choice I would've watched the speech, but I don't know if I would agree with what the president has to say.
i think the president is just trying to stress the matter of the high school drop-out rate is ridiculously high there is no reason why it should be that high. I agree with what president Obama said he was absolutely right. I think all these people about saying it was a waste of the school day are wrong every word Obama said was absolutely true if anything it was a good time spent during the day.
I THINK OBAMA SPEECH WAS GREAT AND PEOPLE NEED TO STOP MAKING A BIG DEAL ABOUT IT. OBAMA IS OUR PRESIDENT AND I THINK HES DOIN A GREAT JOB. HIS SPEECH WAS SOMETHING TO THINK ABOUT BECAUSE MANY PEOPLE ARE TAKING THEIR EDUCATION AS A JOKE AND THINKING ABOUT DROPPING OUT. IM SURE OBAMA SPEECH CHANGED OUR YOUNG KIDS LIVES AND I THINK HE SHOULD DO ANOTHER ONE
i think because it,s talking about education and that,s very good and i think that he,s making a good speech
I watched the speech Tuesday, and I noticed that Mr. Obama just repeated the same things our parents, teachers, and family members tell us all the time. I was disappointed he was just being another adult that just babbles on, I thought it was going to be more than telling us to be "smarter".
I personally don't like Obama but thats just me there are many other people pout there. I think the only reason he was chosen for president is because he is black im not trying to be racest or nothing its just the facts im saying. Many people at my school are saying "Obama is so great and he's the best." I ask why they say it's because he is black i state my answer. The speach is not important to me teachers give us speachs' all day and the United States doesn't make a big deal about it. So just because he is the president people have to go out and cry about it! For real people its NOT that big of a deal. Also he keeps saying that he is going to better our schools all the time...i haven't seen him do squat about ours schools. His daughter gets better lunches and the highest technlogy but we get the left overs. She was once problly in public school she should know how bad it is but yet they continue to do abloutly NOTHING about! It's just not fair to anyone espically the lower class i came from there the schools are bad Obama if you want our votes in the future i say actually DO SOMTHING for us to like you. HELP OUR SCHOOLS!!
I think it is okay that kids can see Obama's speech, after all he is the president of the United States. Also, all he was talking about is why kids should stay in school!
I don't see why anyone would not want to watch President Obama's speech. Even if you do not like him, the focus is on education and how kids should stay in school. How can you not agree with that?
I would like to hear what he has to say.
It might be important, after all he got voted president,
why the nation choose someone who doesn't deserve
to be a leader?
Obama is just repeating what the teachers already say. I do not believe it will make an increase in a student's work ethic. In my opinion, he wants teenagers to think that he is such an amazing man just so he will receive their votes in the 2012 presidentian election.
I believe that president obama's speech was extremely awesometastic and that he is doing the right thing by talking to us students about school and the economy because we have the right to know what is going on in the whitehouse . I do not thing his comments were offensive at all because we need to know about these things even though he didn't focus on school enough.
I think that it's okay that President Obama is telling us to stay in school but, he should tell us that if you drop out of school you aren't making the right choice. So then you aren't going to make enough money while working at McDonald's or Burger King to support your family or help your parents when they get older. So then you will run out of money before you can even spend it and it's all because you dropped out high school and didn't go to college.
The youth now a days aren't very aware of the outside world as they should. Most of us are more focused on what happens on our favorite TV shows than what could be happening that will effect us in real life. President Obama is really trying to do a good thing here. And if you don't agree, then don't listen. But Obama is a very important figure to me and many others. His words can really make a difference on us. He's a very inspiring person.
i think there should be a school wide vote on wether the speech should be watched, and if the speech supporters lose, then students who want to watch it can watch it by themselves at home
I thought the speech was interesting. One thing I learned was that you won't know what your good at till you do it.
I think that it is just a pr stunt. he's trying to make it look like he's concerned.
Well, let's see, is there anything wrong with encouraging us to work hard? No, so what's all the fuss about?
Even though i don't agree with Mr. obama's moral beliefs I still feel it is important to hear what he has to say.I was a bit annoyed when i heard Obama would be talking to school because i thought he would bring politics and the healthcare plan into his speech. after finding that no politics where brought into it I felt much better and my school will be watching it in social studies.
Megan
I personally dont think that the president should be going to schools when he has a lot more important things to deal with. yes our education is important but we dont need a whole presidental speech on it. I just think that it is taking time out of a learning school day, kids go to school to learn NOT to listen to the president talking about our education system.
I think we already have enough "speeches" from our parents and teachers. There really is no difference between our parents and teachers, and Obama, except for you know, he's the President.
I am not planning to watch this speech. The president gives many, many speeches a year, and to me, I think it's just one more that he wants people to listen to.
i have seen the speech and personally, i thought it was very encouraging. He gave examples of his life that tells you about him going through school, and what he said made a lot of sense. I heard people in my class saying they thought it was a waste of time... but truthfully, i thought it was great. Presedent Obama would not have done this speech if he didn't think it was worth it or important to us. As an 8th grader, I thought the speech made perfect sense and it really helped me understand how important this FREE education really is in my life!
what is the big deal he is just trying to get us kid's to stay in school and do well he is not saying anthying bad i think some people are over reacting
obama is very inspireable but sometimes he can push it to far it is good that he is he wants us to stay in school but he needs to slow it down a little we all know we heave to get good grades but also listen well 🙂
I think obama is trying to make us do well but at the same time trying to get voted again and being a good leader also my teacher does’ent relly care she did’ent even get a computer and even bother to turn on the speech or talk about obama.
Obama is a LOOSER and that is the nice way to say it. If that liar cares anything about the education of young people he should get rid of the no child left behind law. I want to move on and further my education at my pace, not the slow pace. I think that Obama could careless about our education and I agree with that post that yopu mentioned on the show, he is targeting the next gereration of voters that will be their first time voting in four years. I am among them and I won't ever vote for a president because they NEVER keep their promises.
The stuff he makes up is just fake. I think he just wants to abuse his power by making laws and speeches just so he can stay at the top and be the top of the U.S.
At least Obama didn't say anything about the health care in his speech to us.
I really have no idea why theres any reason to do this speech. It's just another don't smoke and stay in school talk. It's not like any kid would drop out of school then change his mind just because the president said it was wrong. If somebody is planning to drop out of school they probaboly will.
I personally think that Barack Obama is just turning to the students of America to help fix the economy. I mean think about it he wants us to good in school so when we graduate high school we go to college and take out a 40,000 dollar loan and spend the next eight years in our profession paying this 8.5% interest loan back. That's considering that you could find a job in your profession. All I'm saying is i find it sad that he ran out of ideas so he turns to the youth of America to do his job.
I think people exagerate when they talk about the Presidential Address. People think that Obama is going to talk about POLITICS and BORING stuff!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I would love to watch Obama talk about how we could improve our working habits and education! Since he is our president, I think it is important to listen to his ideas before judging what it is going to be about since most people are making such a big deal about it when there are more tragic things happening even in our world today like global warming and health care. Who would make a fuss about such a minor problem? Although education is extremely important, why try to make Obama's opinion and helpful advise on education a problem? We already have too many of those issues without this controversy!
I think that when Obama makes his speech he's just trying to get people to vote for him in 4 years.
i think its kind of dumb for Obama to give this speech because it makes people mad and not want to vote for him, and kids are already told by teachers and parents to stay in school.the only difference now is that the president is telling them.
i think that i will watch or read the speech because he is president and i think that he could also change a lot of students minds. even though i usally dont agree with him i think it will be good
i think that al there trying to do is give the same ol speach outt. i personally am tireddd of it!
President Obama's speech doesn't really have that much affect on me.In my opinion it seems like just another speech that had more controversy than usual. I planned on staying in school and trying my best even before he decided to give his speech, but showing concern for our countries education is always important.
I think people are just over reacting but President Obama did change his speech a day before it went live. He just said to work hard because your not going to get anything for free. That's true.
I think obama is trying to make us do well but at the same time trying to get voted again NEXT TERM
He's just giving a speech about staying in school and getting an education. I don't see what the big deal is. Drop out rates are increasing and he's trying to prevent it from raising any more. I mean it's not like he's forcing his political views on us or anything. I would be totally fine with watching it. It is a good oppurtunity for the president to tell us how he feels about education, and the importance of it.
I wached the president speek to kids and I thought president Obamas speach was really great and I learned that people don't know what there good at untill they try it.
I wached the president speek and I thought president Obamas speach was really great I learned that people don't know what there good at until they try it.
i have better things to do . i would love to watch it but , it is stupid. his health care plan is wring in manyu ways
I think the schools and teachers should let us watch the speech at school, because to me its better than what most teens see now. You here all this profanity and disrespect going on TV and i think parents agree that they rather have you be watching the President's speech than having us kids watch shows like Family Guy or The Simpsons
i really dont care what he has to say it is just another spaech . his spaech has no effect on me i do my best every day and plan on staying in school . i did not vote for him and i will never vote for him . he just wants everbody to like him . THERE IS NO CHANGE.
I have watched the President's speach and i agree what he had to say. Teenagers need to actually focus on school work and getting an education in life. Not waste their own life not going to school and/or dropping out.
Basically Barack Obama is just telling teenagers to just stay in school and their future will be a sucess. But it's funny how other people out there would not like to listen to the speach that he had made because they think Barack Obama is just making up these stories. Well it's the truth, without education, without learning abilities, your child wont have a career in his/her life.
Just plain dropping out of school mean that you hardly care about getting an education and you dont care about what's going on with your life, but when you realize that "oh wait, maybe i should've stayed in school because right now my life just SUCKS" well, that's your fault.
His speech was very presidential.:) It was just telling us to stay in school and get our education.I don't get why some people were freaking out about it. the only bad part was he was asking us what we could do for him even though he was elected to help our country.
I personally think the speech was A good idea maybe in can get kids to stop droping out of school and become more movited too go to school. Its really not a big deal he is are president and we have to listen to him.
I personally think the presidents speech was good but he talked about the same things the whole speech. If you sum it up he pretty much just wants you to stay in school. The speech was good but when he said if you drop out of school you are letting your country down i didnt think that was the best thing to say.
I think that its great that Obama is talking to students all over. And I agree with him that students really should stay in school. I think the speech is a great idea.
I think that the all of the people that are getting upset over this "pep talk" and just blowing this way out of proportion. I mean, he is already our president and is not trying to brainwash their children. Give it up!
I think that his speech was great. It's ridiculous that people were freaking out about this speech. He's trying to lower drop out rates and it's not like he was forcing his political views on anyone! too many people are overreacting
Okay. What's the deal with all these media-types (also Glenn Beck) getting all bent outta shape with this speech? THERE WAS NOTHING BUT VAGUE ENCOURAGEMENT. How could someone possibly get the impression that he had some secret agenda with all this?
Principals across the nation gave similar speeches to their students, and people support them, even other presidents did the same thing and were supported for it, but why now is there so much criticism for the current president. It should be the same as what other presidents have done, we should have supported him, instead of isolating our minds, or even in some cases people have isolated their CHILDREN from hearing the president asking students to try their best and achieve their goals. Everyone, young or old should have heard that speech.
i think that the presidents speach was a good idea his purpose was to motivate students nothing else...im not sure why people woudnt let their students or kids watch it even if they dont like him he is still the president and people should respect that
If i could watch i would, but my lack of TV or internet (at home) is a problem. But i think it would be nice to watch i could use a little pep talk to actually get me....to do better...in school...
Obama will not be able to change a student's mind about dropping out of school. It's just another speech that students will either watch or won't watch.
If i could watch it i would but unfortunately the lack of TV or internet at home and the fact that no one watched it at school....well i wasn't exactly able to watch it...but other wise i thought it would be something worth watching, i need a little pep talk
I think it was just anather speech he makes to try to make kids that are about to become the age to vote for him elect him agian for presedent. I mean ower parents tellto get good grades.
i thought that the speech was great. Say Obama!!
We got to watch the speech in school today. It really was a good speech! I enjoyed it!
I give my props to President Obama for at least trying to tell us kids about the importance of education. But, overall I really did like the speech
I'm not going to watch his speech because I think the government needs to stay out of our business and understand that a simple speech and a few compliments isn't going to keep naturally unmotivated and bored students from dropping out of school.
i think the speech is impotant because millions of kids drop out of school every year maybe our pressidents speech will motavate peopleto stay in school.
I am in High school and watched it class. I thought he spoke very well and addressed students as students. He also did an excellent job personalizing the speech. Over all I think he did wonderfully.
