Electric Guitar 2.0
Back in middle and high school, I used to play drums – acoustic ones. I liked the look, sound and feel of them, and I loved the volume (my neighbors didn't).
There was a bit of a rivalry between drummers with acoustic kits and drummers with electric ones: Everyone thought he had the best set. Electric drums are more portable and more versatile, but many think acoustic drums are somehow more genuine.
That's why I'd like to hear what you think of the guitar featured on Thursday's show. It has a microprocessor inside; it literally tunes itself (which looks really cool when the pegs start spinning). But would you want that kind of guitar over a standard electric? I mean, what do you think is better: technology that lets you take 18 different tones on the road, or the old-fashioned idea, which requires more guitars but maybe gives more authenticity?

I must say that electric instruments are really fun to play. They can make so many different sounds that the real instrument can't make. Like an electric keyboard; you can change the sounds on it to make explosions or you can change it to the sound of a trumpet. Now there's this guitar that tunes itself. Even though these electric instruments are really fun to play, they can't beat the sound of an acoustic guitar or a grand piano. Then again, I think it's just whatever a person prefers. I just hope that we don't replace everything with electronics.
Acoustic instruments make nice, relaxing sounds and are very much classic. I do, however, prefer the more fun, upbeat sound of the electric guitars that are more commonly used in rock music.
I like the electric guitar better because u can make so many cool sounds with it and most of our famous guitarist used electric guitars such as Slash, Randy Rhodes, and B.B. King.
I prefer new electronics guitar because it is more easy and convenient

I think electric instruments are very fun to play with.But I think we have to keep our old-fashioned-instruments too I guss.
I play the accordion. I do believe that this new electric guitar is not a way to advance the guitar.
I think that having an electric guitar that tunes itself is a nice idea. I wouldn't say that it is cheating, but I think that everyone should learn how to tune their insturment themselves.
I used to disagree with making developments to music. I liked it the original way. However, now I think if we don't make any developments to music, it will always be the same. So I propose that we should keep the acoustic and electric guitars while trying out the new one. Am I too stuck between the middle? haha
I think it is a good idea for who people who are a little off in tuning their guitar. It's harder for some people than for others and you don't want to waste time tunnning it.
I don't feel that it is cheating you out of anything. I think if you wanted to tune it yourself you would get the original one. If not you will only be cheating yourself then.
I think that the guitar that tunes itself is better because it is easier on the guitarist. With me being a guitarist i really get tired of changing guitar for the different sounds i need.
i would want a acoustic because its a better guitar point blank period [[but i dnt kno ne thing about them ha!]]
I LOVE IT! I play instruments myself and if there is technology that can let the instrument fix itself is awsome. And it was going to happen anyway. Technology is the future...
I dont care bout selftuning guitars because im not into music.
I love guitars, especially elictric. The new darkfires are cool and they do give you alot of options, which is cool, but...i like the originals better. No one will truly appreciate guitars and their sound if they don't understand the hard work it takes to learn how to play, and that includes learning how to tune them.
I think the Electric Guitar 2.0 is a good idea and I definitely want one. Technology is taking over the world.

I would say the new modernized guitar is better because its like having many guitars in one.
I think either way would be cool. The one that moves by itself would be cool because you wouldnt have to move it bt i would also be creapy see'n it move by itself and what if it moves to a sound you didnt want. The one you would have to move the tune would be ok to if your a person who is a do it yourselfer.
I really like any electric instrument it dont worry me at all, because i am in to music alot i sing and i really lve music it is nothing i like better. The thing I like best about electric instrument is that they can make so many different sounds and they just sound so pretty thats why i guess it really dont matter to me.
I think the tech guitar is great and would prefer it to the acoustic one becouse it has so many tones that would take a whole collection of acoustic ones to match, anyways it dosen'tmatter becouse you have to know how to play in the first place.

I think that's great that new, higher-tech guitar is coming out. As we progress into the future, it is only best that our equipment does too. However, it's best that those who are interested in playing a certain intstrument needs to learn how to play acoustic instruments before doing electronic instruments.
Electric guitars are great and I must say that having a guitar that can auto tune and do stuff that a normal one can do it’s a great invention. I wouldn’t say it be cheating it’s just a guitar like any other it’s not how it is it’s how you play it.
OMG i've been playing guitar for about 2 years now nd i never thoght that our technolagy would bring us this kind of guitar. this is an amazing instrument. i plan on getting one early by next year. alos this guitars self tuning is great for people who struggle with tuning their guitars.
Its cheating because there is no point with a real guitar you don't have to have it electronically tuned.
I think it's going to be the future of musical instruments.
This guitars makes it easier to tune it because other ones don't really tune as well or as fast.
really its a good thing. bands are starting to diversify and so is their music. If they are doing a concert and they have one song that is classic and the next is jazzy then all they have to do is let the guitar adjust itself.

We think that the new guitar is really, really, really, COOL!!!!!!!!!!
One student thinks that the new guitar is better because you can take one guitar on the road and it will be less expensive than having 5 or 6 guitars. Another student felt that the new guitar takes some of the skill out of it, it takes away from having to tune a guitar by ear. Also it seems that technology is taking over. If things keep going this way then eventually we will just have robots playing the guitar for us, what is the fun in that?
I played in bands from the early 70's right through to the early 90's and it scares me to think about how much money I spent on various pieces of equipment to sound like all the great guitar players I was trying to emulate. Now all you have to do is buy a guitar with a digital "brain" and you have a limitless array of sounds you can copy. I don't know how I feel, exactly, but I don't think it is going to make better music than a good old classic electric guitar of some sort and an over-sized amplifier(think Spinal Tap). The digital equipment I've heard up to this point sounds entirely too perfect, and "perfect" is one thing good rock and roll is NOT!
I beleive that a guitar that can tune its self is a great thing to have on the road if you are a traviling guitarist trying 2 start and has a very small amount of money. Even though i dont play guitar this invention would make me want to take lessons to learn how to play.
I think it's great and it looks fun. I would try it just for the experience.
After watching this news segment with my World History and Geography classes today, I was surprised to find that not many of my 150 students even play guitar. If this invention would make them more likely to pick up an real instrument, rather than playing guitar Hero, I'm all for it.

I think the electric guitar are amazing. But,they have to many varieties of sounds then other guitar.They can't beat the grand piano .

i love music and i like how people make their own music by creating their music. but i like how that man plays his music on the gutar because one day i want to learn how to play a gutar myself.

I like the new guitar better because when I go to tune I can push a button and it will tune it for me. So I give it an A+++
I believe that it is a pretty cool concept to have the 2.0 Electric Guitar. It is very fascinanting to see what people can do with advance technonolgy. I like the electric guitar either way, although I do not play it. The good thing about the electric guitar 2.0, though, is that it saves money. You do not have to go and buy a new guitar every time you need a new sound, everything comes in one package.
I like the electric instruments there are very cool to play. The sounds are different and very and unique. I take lessons with a professional gutiarist.:)

Hi I think we should keep things traditional i like the sound of a regular old fashioned guitar. Ilike the sound of an electric guitar but it will never make up for that old and soothing sound i love to hear.

I think that the new guitars are not cheating . Every day that goes by we come up with more new cool things.so this is a bigger devolment in the music indistry so we should thank this new and improved project.
I don't think it's cheating. My Cousin is a pro guitar player, and he admitts tuning is the hard and boring part. It can take a hour just to tune it. Sure, it takes out some of the fun, but how is that cheating?
I THINK THIS GUITAR IS CHEATING!! WHATEVER HAPPENED TO TONING IT YOURSELF?? THIS GUITAR IS PURE OUT LAZY. SURE ITS COOL, BUT LAZY! THAT IS MY OPPINION.
it looks cool, it sounds cool, but if you dont have to learn how to tune it by yourself, you are not really getting into the music.
I myself play hard rock guitar along with playing metallica as my favorite band.I look at the dark fire and say "wow"! It tunes it's self,it plays different effects all in one awsome guitar!This instrument is worth the money, especially since you don't have to buy all those pedals.I think this guitar deserves cool!

I think this new guitar takes the person out of the music. its dosnt let the player connect with guitar. you need to experience all sides of the instrument to put the soul in to the song.

I don't think its cheating, its just the future. The same thing happened with reading tabs for guitar instead of reading sheet music. Its just something that you can't really stop, it has to happen some time.

i believe this new guitar takes away from the creativity involved in playing a standard electric guitar. music is suppose to flow from the musician to the instrument, it isnt suppose to flow from the musician to the knobs or buttons through the computer and then to the instrument. technology shouldnt replace raw human talent.

I just think that it doesnt matter, if you like acoustic, then play acoustic, if you like electric, then play electric, it just relies on what kind of music you like. As long as we dont forget our beginnings.

Im a performer and I think all the magic is made when you make your own sound wether it's tunning your guitar or singing a song without it being remixed or having someone else write it for you.

I think that this new guitar is pretty cool. The one thing that concerns me is the accuracy of the tuning. And the price...is this guitar ridiculiously expensive?
I think it is cool and cheating at the same time. It's cool because it tunes it for you. It's cheating because you don't learn how to do it.
i think that this is cheting becuause what is the fun of having something done rather than doing it your self. is it not fun doing it your self.

I think that this new guitar is really cool. It's very useful to people who like playing the guitar because you can get a lot of different guitars in one, that way your not spending a bunch of money on five different guitars, you can just buy that one.
I disagree with the statement that tuning the guitar automatically is cheating. It is not. When I tune my guitar, it is still a pain, and takes up so much of my time at lessons that I could be spending playing. I think the automatic tuner is a great idea, and I would use it every day.
i have be playing the gutiar for 4 years and i thing that it cool by i still it cheating because it like skip a big part in in learning to play the guitar and writing music
i am neutral about this guitar only because the guitar industry, when it comes to Fender brand and Gibson guitars, have always been priced on the salty side. (They are always expensive.) Now how much do they expect to get for these guitars and what will happen when the electronics of the guitar fail? The expence in the repair will be up there as well. Problems with moisture and other elements will also effect this item. Cost for the batteries that will have to be used in order to function the software will be expensive. this is definately a great idea, but I think to the normal guitarist, or people that are not in the high dollar music industry, will not be able to afford such a luxury. When it comes to the common groups, playing the hits that will be performed from such guitar, may never find the sound used from performer.

This is a computer, not a guitar.
This is whats wrong in the world with our brand new technological discoveries. The electric guitar of the future is doing nothing but betraying and cheating the music industry, as well as ourselves. True Music should come from the heart and be played by your feelings. I understand the part about the tuning, I can compare to other musicians and guitarists, but this is just too much. I feel that the future of music is beginning to vanish as we lose sight of how real music should be played like true artists.

I play guitar and I don't like the idea of it all that much. That is taking the fun out of playing different kinds of guitars. I like the tune-self but otherwise I don't really like it.
WOW! I am a musician and I play violin, piano, and guitar. Everything is so high in technology now, take a piano for example. You can get an electric piano, and make it to the sound of a trumpet, or even a singing choir. A guitar that tunes itself is absolutely amazing, period.
whether we like it or not, this guitar is most likely a gateway into a new era of music. It's like nanotechnology
I can see how the people at Gibson would think this would be a really cool idea. It's new, flashy, and completely different. People are lazy, so they’re gonna like all the stuff that this guitar has to offer. You basically do nothing yourself. I think the self-tuning part of the guitar is ridiculous. Tuning is simple. You can do it yourself. Having all the different styles in one knob would be convenient for most, but you can get all those plus more in a pedal. I think that it takes away a lot of the creativity that you can get by using different pedal settings and amp adjustments. I say let computers do their job and guitarist do theirs. Let’s not mix the two together. -I'm a bass player 🙂
I don't like the new way very much. Music should be pure, and stay the same. These days, technology rules over everything, and I don't want it to rule over music too. Some things should never change, even if there are many pros in this situation.

I have played guitar for about a year now and I think it would be cool to have one of those "multi guitars" but it's also nice to have the classics.
I think that this is a kind of cool idea, however I do not think that this should replace the original instruments. I think that this invention is similar to a keyboard, which I am glad didn’t replace the original piano.
I think that people should stick with the original guitars, instead of one beefed up guitar. I myself play a little and it would take away from the experience if the guitarist couldn’t tune the guitar himself. Especially for people just learning how to play, I think they should stick with a authentic standard electric guitar.

Some people are saying the new guitar, the Gibson Dark Fire, which automatically tunes itself to whatever tuning you want (standard, C#, Drop D, etc) ruins your opportunity to play like normal. They say it takes away from the experience. I honestly would PREFER to have a Gibson Dark Fire, because I am sick of always shaving to tune my guitar every day, and change the tuning for whatever song I am trying to play.

Yea a guitar that tunes itself and all that for you might be cool. But how is anyone going to experiment with sounds anymore? What’s next? A guitar that plays itself for you like those piano things in haunted houses? I think those robot guitars should only be available to people like Slash and B.B King, but they probably would prefer their own guitars over some robot guitar with no feelings.
Seeing as guitars are becoming more computer based, why not have a guitar with a computer in it? I personally would like to have one even though I can’t play guitar. I think it’s pretty cool that you can do all those special effects without having to be in a studio. This is just another way that everything is becoming more technological.
I think that this guitar sounds supa fresh. If i could play the guitar, I would totally get this. It saves time by tuning itself and having it own built in amp. It's just a new for of technology. I don't see why anyone wouldn't want it.
I think I would use the dark fire to mess around with the sound but (because I play guitar a bit, but still learning) I would use my regular electric guitar for most things. If you are still learning like me then we need the whole experience. Plus it makes you feel good to play something you tuned yourself.

I think that the Gibson Dark Fire is a really cool guitar. I think that it will really help everyone in the music industry. I think that this guitar is better than the average guitar because it can make more than one sound.
I think the new guitar is cheating. Part of knowing how to play the guitar is being able to tune it too. Next thing you know the guitar will be playing its self and you won’t have to do anything.
I feel that this electric guitar could be used for certain things but will never replace the old one. This guitar takes the same amount of skill to play it just saves the time for tuning. I draw the line at people trying to replace acoustics. This electric guitar has it’s own unique sound so it is just like the others.

I think that the Electric Guitar 2.0 I awesome. All the things it can do are pretty crazy. I’d like to meet the guy who invented it. I don’t play guitar, however, I think that if I did, and It was a reasonable cost, I would look into buying it. For the old school people, u can keep your acoustic guitar, but if you are looking for a different experience, then that is a thing you should try.
I like the idea of the technologically advanced guitar for many reasons, and I dislike it for many other reasons. First off, I like it is really cool how it tunes itself and I think it would be a great timesaver. However for a beginner, buying this guitar would be like cheating, as a beginner, you need to learn how to tune the guitar, and how to get the different sounds out of it on you own, if you don’t, you’re just hurting your own chances of becoming a good player.

I play guitar myself and I can tell you that tuning the guitar all the time and having to change the tuning if you want to play a song and then having to tune it back gets very, very tedious. The electronic tuning device on the guitar saves a lot of time and does not detract from the original guitar playing experience.
I think that the newer electric guitar is a lot cooler, and it looks easier to work. I don’t play a guitar or anything but I think that people would be able to work it better than a regular one. But some people like to do all of the work so I don’t know, people have different opinions.
I think this is awesome but somehow the sound of electronic will not good as the original. I this is kind of guitar is for rock bands people that they need to tour around because they can just use one guitar, it’s easy to move around and have all the sound in one guitar they don’t have to change the guitar all the time too.
