Biggest Stories of the School Year
With less than two weeks remaining on the air before our summer break, CNN Student News wants to know what YOU think were the biggest stories of the school year. Any news that we covered from mid-August of 2008 to today is fair game.
All we ask is that you tell us what your picks are and why you picked 'em. And some of your responses could be featured next week on CNN Student News!

I think the biggest story you guys did the world Economy report so we know how the world is doing.
I think the most talked about award goes to the economy for obvious reasons, but it definitly wasn't my favorite. I liked the stories that were completely out of the blue; such as the Snuggie story.

I think that "The Best Job In The World" had the greatest impact for my classmates and I. When CNN Student News advertised the job, I think that ALL of us wanted to enroll into that job and that huge amount of money with it, even our teachers! But.. sadly my classmates and I were underaged...
New Face
This is a very important article to me because it tells how the human race is developing. Even thou the face isn't perfect, people were still able to develop the face.
The story about the Japanese American woman who was pulled out of collage because of World War 2 really touched my heart. I'm very thankful that the collage still remembers her and cares for her to graduate. I just really shows that God would never forget you, and he has great plans for you!
Best Job in the World: That was definitely a unique story. That is a job anyone would want, but not everyone could, it took a lot of experience with nature as well as the ability to be a good advertiser for the island. It was interesting to see the ideas people came up with when applying for it. Although it’s a really cool island, I think it would be a struggle for a person who is so used to the luxuries of modern civilization, so it was good that they were careful when interviewing the people who applied.
I would have to say that the Presidential Election was the biggest event this year. It is the biggest election because it's for the President. Also, it only happens once every four years. It was even bigger this year because Obama is black, and he's so young. I would've voted for republican, but not necisarily McCain. I would probably vote for Romney if I could vote.
$2500 a ticket was very interesting because I didn't know that a New York Yankee ticket could cost that much.
I think the biggest story featured in the show was a news about Phelps caught while smoking marihuana. I think it brought many American and international fans of Phelps to disappointment so it must be the biggest issue.
In second place I think it's North Korean missile crisis. If Kim Jung-il got wrong in the head, he might've bombed down Hawaii.(I live in Hawaii you know.) I'm still scared to death when I think about it.
Lastly, the biggest story that happened to the show? YOUR JOKES ARE IMPROVING!!! Way to go, Carl!
We had a party for Mrs Hathaway last month, and during the party a boy called Terry accidently poured orange juice all over Mrs Hathway's shirt!Some kind of a party huh?
The best thing we did was watch cnn student news in mr bernardi's class.
I think the biggest news story of the year was the election of Barack Obama. He is our first African American President, and he has a lot of work to do to get our country out of this recession.
The biggest story was definitely the cell phone ban while driving. If people can't put their cell phone down while they are driving, odds are that they will crash, miss a turn, or get pulled over by the police. All of these things are awful, and I do think there should be a ban on using cell phones while driving. CNN Student news has covered a lot of interesting stories, but I think that this was the biggest. What do you think the biggest story of the school year was, Carl?

I enjoy watching cnn student news every day with my class. My favorite story was when all those people from england ran down the hill after the wheel of cheese. I thought that story was really gouda.

I thought that the biggest story was when Ameneh Bahrami was attacked in Iran. I hate to see people being attacked, but to be blinded with acid is just dreadful. Blinding the attacker with acid was also very harsh. Ameneh should have just taken the blood money, instead of suggesting that her attacker get blinded as well. If you fight fire with fire, the whole world will get burned. This story was the biggest story that CNN Student News has covered this year.

Before we go's are cool to me. I like the animal stories. They're always funny. Your jokes are lame, but I like your reaction when you realize that. I like the updates on Afghanistan. We need to know every once in a while. I mean, were in war people! What's wrong with you! We deserve to know what's happening! Oh, and the words to the wise aren't the best idea. I look forward to the news at school, but the words, I know at least half! Maybe you could put them in shout outs. Like, What is the definition for... Hope this helps!

If I had to choose the biggest story, I would say it was the Saturday Night Live skit about Governor Paterson. Although I thought it was funny, it was also a bit crude (but not like the crude oil). I do like some of the skits, but this one went way too far.
i think the biggest story was the michael vick and the NFL. mostly because there are so many different thoughts about it

The biggest story of the school year was that the best math teacher in the world is getting laid off. Also we heard that all of our classes will be changed and the same teachers as this year. How are we going to survive!!! jk
Well our 8th grade math teacher is getting laid off at the end of the year, and our history teacher is switching to the high school.
I think that the U.S. ship that had got taken over by Piracy was a pretty big story. I think that it was major news because it was so major because it was a world wide problem. I think that it was really cool that he got saved and got to come home to his family.
The biggest story of the school year is when Barack Obama won the election!!!! I was so happy! CNN had a whole week about it. IT WAS AWESOME!!! They covered almost everything that happened that week.
I think the CNN has had some great episodes this year some not so good as others though. I think one of the good episodes was when they showed the the people diving into all that yummy popcorn. That was definitely my favorite.
Turning sweat and urine into drinkable water was the biggest story, no question! When people go to space, they can only bring a certain amount of food and water, but if there's a device that can turn their natural liquid releases into clean, drinkable water, that will reduce the added weight that freeze-dried food adds to space crafts, and that would totally rock! I don't care how gross it sounds. This was by far the biggest story ever!
I think the biggest story in CNN Student News is the rivalry between President Barack Obama and Senator John McCain.
Winning the jobso that yuo could watch the border of ausralia.my whole class was taliking about that. if only middle schoolers could work!!

A New Face, the one that you reported on May 7, 2009 had to be my favorite. Those doctors and surgeons were amazing! I can't believe that they did that! Definitely amazing!

I'd say anything that deals with texting while Driving. I fell very strongly about that subjesct and think it's just horrid and dangerous to do that, and I think texting is becomming a sickening obsession that needs to slow down! And the other one was the Emu story, it was weird yet funny. (I did not know animal control did not do Emus...)

I think the most interesting story was the one about the lady who got acid thrown on to her eyes and pushed for the person who did it, to have the same done to him. (Hey Carl do you think you could say hi to Mr. Moore's fifth period. He watches you all year every year)
I also puts another one; in the before we go segment, I really loved to see a wizened ol' granny hitting a burglar with the frying pan. I thought it only happened in cartoons, you know. Way to go granny!
and also about that cheese rolling contest. I think it will be fit for you, Carl. Cheesey man on a cheese contest!!!!
I liked the recent one about North and South Korea.Afterall, southkorea is my home nation.

I can't really think of the most important story that you've done, but I can remember the funniest. A lot of the "Before We Go"s were pretty good. And the best for our school is when our teacher Mr. Easto was called the best teacher for us.
I think that the biggest story of the year was definitely the presidential election. With all of the debates and so on it attracted a lot of attention! If memory serves correctly, CNN had a lot of information on all of the "Big News" about the elections so it was a very hot topic!
I think the biggest stories of the year were the economy troubles, the presidential race, and the inauguration of President Obama. The bad economy is affecting the entire country. This presidential campaign was one of the most interesting in a long time. Also, a change in power in one of the world's most powerful countries is huge news. It was an even bigger story because we have our first African-American president now.
I think that the biggest story was the one about the the swine flu thingy. I think this because it was good info for us to know... like where it came from and what it is...
I think that the biggest story CNN this year that I can remember and think of would be about the economic stimulus package and bailing out the car companies. That had a huge effect on us then and it still does.
I think that the biggest news of the year of CNN Student News would be when our teacher Mr. Easto was our best teacher of the year at UCMS.

The election was the biggest story of the year, without a doubt, but the other top story SHOULD have been when CNN Student News got a Facebook page....and the most memorable event of the year is when Mr. Mosqueda first showed us your show! You rock!

i think the story on the horry county wild fires. because it was a little rediculus, that we had to make up a day at school because of, not having school for a state of emergency. 🙁

I think the election of President Obama was the biggest and most important story. Getting a new president is a huge deal, especially whith so many things going on in America at this time.
I really thought that it was funny that someone trained a parrot to dance to the beat of Stevie Nicks!
The best story was when Barack Obama became our 44th president. Whether you voted for him or not it was history being made before our eyes. It's special that we'll be able to live to tell our grandchildren about this. GO MR. McCLINTOCK'S 3RD PERIOD HONORS CLASS ! =D

I think the biggest story was when obama became our president cause he will be known in history for being the first black to become president.
My class all really like the your cheesy jokes after the clips at the end we all have fun with that =) and we all discussed for a really long time about the actress who died in the skiing accident in February, we had just been on a field trip where we skiid. I belive that the main story of the year was the swat valley fight becuase think of what kind of damage they could do if they had nucular weopons.
I believe the biggest event this year is to the president election. This was one of the most historical events in history. The election had the oldest person to run for president, and the first black person to becom president. I wonder what Martin Luther King junior would say.

I think this because these auto dealers have been around for a long time and for them to just go bankrupt is a big deal. Look at Ford ,they have been selling cars since the early 1900's. All though for them to go ask for a bailout in private jets wasn't there smartest move.I think it's a good idea though that they are goig to be hooking on with Fiot.

My nomination for the top story of the year is about the best job in the world. WOW what a awesome job! How i would love to go there only im in elementry school. I would love to get paid while having fun, I never thought that you could have fun at a job. And about that HOTEL and POOL and also that GOLFCART. I think that the biggest story that you covered was when Barack Obama became America's 44th President. I think it is the most important because we all needed to see how the poles were coming to. The second most important was the Swine Flu. That was important because poeple needed to know what to look out for, what it is, and where it really came from. I also thought that the coolest thing that you gues covered was the girl that did all of the texting. That was weird.

My favorite story this year was the best job in the world because you get paid for watching animals, swiming in the ocean, staying free in a motel and getting to use a golfcart while having lots of fun it is a pretty good deal. The only thing I would be scared about is getting eaten by a shark.

Well there were a lot of big things over the last couple of months. I would say the biggest one was swine flu.
For me, the biggest news of the year was the Earth Day Special Edition. It helped people become aware of what is happening to our planet. I especially liked the story on Chesapeake Bay. It shows that by polluting the planet, you are not only harming many species of wildlife, but also us, human beings.

My favorite news story that was on cnn student news was the "Best Job in the World" news story because it was really exciting to watch the job's oppurtunities. I also liked it when you showed us the results of the best job in the world and some of the runner-up videos.
The best news story that was on cnn student news was the shoe-throwing at Bush and also the best job in the world. Both were exciting and got me and my classmates' attention because of the action. I liked the best job in the world because of its oppurtunities. But sadly...all of us are underaged for the job.

is a great school year, I learned a lot Carl. Carl speak English very well.Carl i had knowledge , i would be more useful for my pupils on. And i am glad that my pupil brother this year managed to acquire a scholarship to Yale.send to another prospective student Berkley University.We always get a good day, when i see Carl on the show because is he are always cheerful and nice guy. a good and best summer vacation Everyone. Carl have a very good holiday.

I was playing softball and it was the first game of the season! So there is this new thing called 3rd strike out (or something like that), so i start running to the base with the BAT how dumb am I. But, it gave us a good laugh and now that's what can cheer me up! Also,I don't want school to be out, or CNN Student News! 🙁 🙁 🙁
the biggest story this year i think would be the swine flu. Because the swine flu is a monster in a virus form that can and has killed people.
It's probably the puns that make the whole show simply amazing. But if we could choose one it would be the episode with the 'New Face', it was .. pretty interesting.

This was my first year of watching CNN Student News and I love it every day! I big moment in my school year was that I got to experience a new school and new activities such as drama. But I think the biggest thing that happened to me and all America is that Barack Obama was elected the first African- American president of the United States. Which changed me( and the world) forever!

I think it's fair to say that the presidential election was the biggest story of the year. I think this is true because of what was on the line: the economy and American peoples freedoms. Barack Obama's policies are suicidal for the U.S. For example, Universal healthcare. We can see in countries like Canada and the UK what Universal healthcare will be like. We will have senior citizens dying because Barack Obama doesn't think it is worth using an expensive drug to save them. As far as our freedoms, Obama and Al Gore want to tell us what cars we can drive, what lightbulbs we can use, etc. Because of how much the future has hinged on the election I believe it is the most important story of the year.
