Michael Vick and the NFL
He committed a crime, he's done time, and now, former NFL quarterback Michael Vick is hoping he can get back in the game. The league says he needs to show "genuine remorse" before it'll let him take the field; others say he's "paid his dues" and should be eligible to play.
Well, here's where YOU can sound off: Should Vick be allowed to play pro football again? Or do you feel he should be permanently benched?

I don’t think he should play cause he did something eligal. Playing professional is a privilage. I fyou do something bad should not have that privilage anymore.
I think that Vick should be able to play!The dog fights and football are two different things,and his punishment should not be being baned from playing football.And no Carl, i am not a Falcons fan.

I believe that Vick has paid his dues. He did something illegal and he apologized, paid the money, and did the time. But what does dog fighting have to do with football? Sure maybe he shouldn't own a pet for what he did. When he starts using steroids then say he can't play football. However, what he did had nothing to do with football so why is he being punished for that?
When I hear the terms "Does he deserve a chance to earn a living I get really P'd off. Because it is coming from people that care more about animals than people. Did slave owners deserve to keep their wealth and pass it on to their clan? Heck they killed people like Vick, but that is forgiveable right? And we should just move on. And we wonder why America is going backwards. You can't go up if you are holding someone else down America!!!!
No I do not think he should be allowed back in the game because the children of the US look up to him as a hero. Yes he did the time but he still did the crime. If he is allowed to play the game children will think that you can get away with treating animals like that. Would you want aother criminals playing the game if they did the time? I think m.vick has paid for what he did so he should be able to get back to what he does best and thats playing football. How does everybody else know that he does feel bad for whats he has done? He is a football player he is not suppose to show his soft side.
In my opinion I think that Michael vick shouldn't be able to go back to being the quarterback for the NFL because he commited a murder, and I don't know about you but in my opinion even though it was a dog and not a human it is just as bad. And i also think that he didn't get enough of a punishment for that crime and that he should have, on top of going to jail, having to pay a fine of a big sum of money.

I believe that Mike Vick deserves a second chance. He was one of the greatest quarterbacks of all time. He has paid his depts. He needs to be back n the field. We all understand what he did was wrong, but you have to put yourself in that situation. If you made a mistake would you want others to believe you deserve a second chance.

People are reacting like Micheal Vick's dog fighting crime is a murder crime!!! Animal rights organizations are doing to much. Homosides and murder charges are made everyday. This is way overhyped. No he shouldn't be allowed back!! The men who play in professional sports should be held to a high standard and they should have real consequences for doing dispicable things – not just minor illegal infractions – but horrible, nasty things (such as harming animals or children on purpose!). We, as Americans, value our sports – but don't we also value our children? These athletes are role models and they know it. If they are allowed back into the NFL, we are saying to our kids that it's not a big deal to break these laws. We shouldn't allow them such an honor as the NFL and to be our childrens' role models after they've done things that devalue our general beliefs as Americans.

As a person who raises 4dogs, I say that Vick deserves more punishments.

Well. Its hard to give you support to some one who has done such a crime. A dog lover myself, I truly get emotional when events like this happen. But it is wrong to take a Career away from someone who has made a mistake. Lets take Michael Phelps for an example, he was caught doing drugs, but a month or two later he is allowed back into the Olympics Organization. Michael Vick has served his time and payed the fines for such a crime, so why crucify him for it. In conclusion I think he should have a Second Chance and I will stand by Michael Vick in his journey to getting his life back.
I believe he should be able to play agian, but ONLY if he interacts with dogs. He would have to show that he cares about them and he would have to be supervised. He should also have a councler while he does this and help rescue lost or hurt animals for atleast a year. Than he should be able to play again.

I think Michael Vick definitely deserves MORE TIME behind bars. So many people, among those millions of young children, look up to these athletes as idols and as people who they want to be when they grow up. He doesn't deserve the chance to get paid millions of dollars again after what he did. If it was someone who wasn't popularly known, the person would definitely have been incarcerated for a longer time. Just because he is "important to the team" and he has the money to pay the bail, does NOT mean that he should get the second chance. Dog fighting is a cruel and disgusting crime that is wrong on so many different levels. I agree with the spokesman from PETA who said that evidence needs to be shown to prove that he does show remorse, BEFORE he gets any form of a second chance. Personally I have no problem with the redeeming of people. But as a concerned animal lover, I am troubled. This gives us kids a message, and that message says that its ok for animals to suffer under our accounts. It will ware off in a few years. Not for the animals however! For the rest of that dog's life it will always remember Mr. Vick's cruel treatment. As for PETA, I don't think a physical examination of the brain is going to help Vick feel, if he has, remorse.

I think that Vick should NOT get back on unless he does something majorly against his past crimes. Like volentering at animal shelters and humane socioties. (of course under supervision!!!) He should also pay up more money for hurting those poor dogs. even then he shouldn't play.

I really don't think he should be able to play! Yes some people think he payed his dues but he made a concious decision and if he played football it would just be more money and fun for him, if he it would be like a reword and yes he payed money and went to jail but if that it its like he could do it again if that was it, and was hitting animals and makeing them fight for no reason. There are some players in the NFL who have comitted crimes. Like you said, Ray Lewis was found guilty of obstruction of justice in a murder case in 2002. A person was killed and the killer was harder because of Lewis giving false information, or not give any information at all. This is a persons life, in Vicks case, it is animals. Animals are importnat, but i think that humans are just a bit more important. if someone can mess with a murder case and still be in football, the why shouldn't Vick. Vick is a huge role model for football and should be able to play with limmits; we do not want him to control the young minds in america. if he becomes really big again then younger people would listen to him and thing that what he did was okay because he is a good spots player. he is probly in his mid twenteys, and the retirement age is about mid thiries. so he would only play for about ten years, so why not let him have his fun.

He made a stupid move by having dog fights, but i dont think he should be banned from the NFL. He payed his time in jail and he should be let back in the NFL. I loved watching his games and his style of play even though i am a Dallas Cowboys fan.

just because he's famous doesnt mean he can just get off the hook of illegal stuff even if he did do his time. if he was some other ordinary guy he wouldnt be allowed but nooooooo hes MICHAEL VICK omg lets have a cow. he needs to be treated equal just like everyone else. i think if they do let him play he would be hated for a really long time anyway cause most people are not going to just forgive him and move on. people will throw trash at him and not want him playing soooo really im neutral on this one. theres pros and cons for which ever they choose

I think Vick should come back to the NFL because not only is he a great football player, but at least he apoligized for hurting the dogs and by the way, he does got some pretty good skills. He's better than you of course!!! LOL
I don't think so. He did something wrong. What's the point of letting him back? He paid some money, spent some time, but for a pro footballer, that's nothing. I don't think he should be allowed to go play again.
I don't think that Vick should be aloud to play again because what he did was horrible. Children all around the world need someone to look up to. They have to know that what he did was not okay so they shouldn't just let him off the hook like that.
I say Vick should play..I'm not saying what he did with the dogs was right but he was punished and he apologized...he apparently learned his lesson....unless he is doing something against league rules like drugs then technically... he should be allowed to play. Yes, Vick should be able to play football again. Everyone makes bad decisions and they pay the consequences, just like Vick did. Millions of people dog fight but just aren't caught, Vick was just one of the people who were caught. He had to do the time for the crime so now they sjhould just leave all of that in the past.
I think they should let the man play again. If it wasn't someone good then they would let him play once more. Its a guy who many kids once idled the guy. Then we they found out about the dog fighting he mad a lot people upset, but if it was someone no one knew they would forgive him.

i think that Michael Vick SHOULD NOT go back to the NFL i think his sorry is weak it does not prove that he might do dog fight again it was very sad that how many pitbulls was killed during the fights. He is a very sad man and plus he is not that good at being QB!

Personally I don't think he should be allowed to play anymore. One reason is that if he is out there on that field every sunday than you know some kid is going to be looking up to him as a role model. And well in my perspective he is not a very good role model. Yes he was a good quarterback but he committed a crime and it may not seem serious but dogs have feelings to and they probably don't like beating up on their own kind. So I dont think someone like Michael Vick should be allowed back in the NFL just because he was once a good QB.
I do not think that Michael Vick should be allowed to play in the NFL again, there are much better deserving people who are just as good as he used to be. Even though he was a great athlete the NFL doesn't need the drama of having someone who used to dog fight because that message will be sent out to younger kids. I think he would have to do some sort of public speaking and have to kiss up to the public until his respect level goes back up even a little bit. Plus even if he did when he played the Pittsburgh Steelers he would have wished that he had never started playing again.
Mike deffinately did something horrible and in return was punished. But does being punished for ones actions really make them a better person, or a more disciplined person, especially after such a crime? I think that it does not. This man should not be allowed back into the NFL no matter how sorry he is. This was a crime, disciplinary actions should carry over to all aspects of this mans life.
I personally think he should be allowed to play again in pro football because he has served his time for his crime. His crime was bad... i guess but like it didn't hurt any humans... like ya, it hurt dogs which are 'mans best friend' ya dogs always help us but, everyone messes up. He has paid his time by going to jail for like two years and honestly everyone wants him back in the NFL cause he was good. There are a few teams that could use a star like him. He also did apologize and like they should just watch him closely then make sure he doesn't slip up or anything. Its not even like Vick is the only player who broke the law other football players broke the law and were allowed to play in the NFL example Ray Lewis. He's worked, went to jail, and paid fines..... Michael Vick deserves a second chance. (:
I strongly disagree that he should come bak to NFL because he commit a crime and it is shocking for this famous person. He might return with his crime again, who knows?

I'm not sure how to feel about him. I could care less about football or any other sport. Sure he paid his dues, but those dogs are the ones he needs to be apologizing to. Dogs who are only trained to fight have to go through therapy before they can rejoin reality again. Some dogs are trained to fight from the day they are born. It's the only thing they know. A dog's life shouldn't be like that. They deserve a life where they have everything they need and someone who loves them. I don't believe that everyone deserves a second chance, I know those dogs do. They did nothing wrong. They were innocent and defenseless. We need to think about both sides of the story. Not just the side of the celebrity.
