Paying for Online News
Would any of you be interested in paying for premium, online news content? It's hard for many folks to imagine, given sites like CNN.com that provide headlines, articles, analysis and video - all for free.
But the Reuters news service says professional customers need its premium content for their jobs. And other news sites are considering doing the same thing so they won't have to rely as much on advertising to pay their bills.
So what's the verdict: Is there any news content that you'd be willing to pay for?

I like things being free (this is very true with the way the economy is right now).
I would never pay for online news. It's like saying you have to pay to use the restroom (even in your own house)!
No , I believe it's our right to know . Even though I do understand why it would be good for business .
I wouldn't pay for it (and my parents wouldn't pay to let me use it either) I would just find a different site or source. I think that it is great just to get information without having to pay for it. It's one of the benefits of the Internet I think.
Not really, I mean. Everything today costs something one way or another. Whether you pay the price now or later! So, my verdict is: NO WAY! News is there to EDUCATE the public on WHAT THE HECK is going on! And what about the people that CAN'T pay for news? Should they just be left out of the circle? No.
I would rather choose to read free news online because you know, everyone likes free stuff don't they? But some people who are use to reading old newspapers, like old people like our grandparents, would choose to read a hard copy of our newspapers. So all our opinions are different.
I do understand why it is needed, but I prefer it free. I always do things on coumputer if its free. If it's not I just decide that I can do without it. This is for education. Lots of students use it and they often have not enough money.
Having to pay for almost everything makes it lose it's sense of freeness. It would be like there are invesible high walls around me. Money is not everything and It shouldn't be that way here. Just think of the readers who only knows what's happening in the world because of this site.

I will pay for this news if you have to do it like this but over all I don't think I'll be seeing it as often. A much as I want to see it my parents won't let me see this piece of news if we had to pay for it.
It is nothing wrong if we have to pay because it is the important part of our lives and we all know it and can't avoid it. It is just that the people are used to having it free and are getting shocked because they have to pay for it now. Many jobs like stock market and other jobs rely on it. Everyone just needs to understand the fact that it is not a free world any more and being smart enough and not emotional this is the right thing to do today atleast. And as far as for the people who can't pay for it has many friends and family to educate them. At least we know that the item we are paying for it is pure and not vulgar. Guys lemme tell you learn to live a life where nothing is going to be free, those days are gone and I don't see any chances in the near future of them coming back.

no, never pay news or information, because it feeds on the manipulation of force. when I received the financial training, practice, I saw that there were people who came to the office and false information,fals addresses and names have been in my office. NO, NO,NO,because it will be a time after the news services of a dirty business.
If I had to pay to see any online news content, it'd be CNN Student News for sure! Carl, you rock!
i think that we shouldn't have to pay for online news because we don't have to take up any paper to do it. so it is pretty much free

I don't think that you should pay for online news. It is just too much these days. I think that you should be able to watch your news on the internet but for free. Not having to pay anything just to watch your daily news.
Everything should be free, there is no use in charging people for saying something on the internet. Then everyone will stop going on the internet because they have no money. So they should just leave it how it is and stop complaining.

I think they should not charge for that. They donʻt charge for it on the t.v. so why should they charge on the internet. I think that is a bad move by Rupert.
It makes sense that newspaper are thinking about charging to publish information online. But i am someone who would not pay. I would rather put information in the newspaper itself, not the online version.
I don't think you should have to pay for news. You should get to know what is going on around the world for free. It should not be something you have to pay for.
NO, I wouldnt pay for it. there are millions of other ways to see whats happening in the world and most of them are free. whats the point of paying for something when you can get it free somewhere else.

If the news papper on line cost the same amount as the regulare news papper off line then it is not that bad because the company needs some money

I can understand why the papers are doing it. They need to make money as well, but charging for online news? I don't think it will stick. People will just find new sources.

It may be an unpleasant task, but I'd pay for the newspaper depending on how useful its content is. I'd perfer to find a cheaper or free newspaper before I'd make this choice however.

I would absolutely hate having to pay extra for the on-line newspaper. I think it is stupid, even though it might be good for the business, some people that practically live on the internet can't get their news fast and easy!!! Paying to see the news is just like paying to live!!!
Paying for online news is reasonable, but pointless. People use the internet mainly because they don't have to pay to find information.
No, I would NOT pay for things that we can get for free else where, i think that is stupid and will bring our economy deeper down... if we have to pay for everthing that is usually free.

As much as I love CNN Student News, I would not pay for it. If your office decided to charge us for carl, I would be unhappy, and unable to watch my favorite CNN anchor.

I think charging people for news is pathetic! Do they not realize that we are in a recesion right now?Not a lot of people have extra money laying around to spend on the news!

I would not pay for premium online, news content because there's definitely a way to get news for free. If most sites begin charging for news, some of the less popular sites would probably have free news.
I don't like the idea. I like to get on and get free news(CNN.com), I don't want to pay. Although, it does bring in extra revenue for that company and some small newspaper companies could use it.
If a website finds it nessessary to charge for news when you can get free news on cnn.com. I dont think it will last long.
Why the heck would I pay for an unportable online newspaper when I can have one delivered to my front door. I really see no point in going online.

I don't think that i would pay for news because there will be ways to be able to get it online for free right now. So i think that it is basically a waste of time that could be spent on other things like trying to find a cure for H1N1(swine flu) or other important things not putting a price on the online news.

I think that paying for online news is pretty stupid. When people can just buy the newspaper . Or even find other ways maybe listen to the radio if they are not home. Right now its just easier to read the news off of your computer because it is free and it is faster. I don't think that I would pay for news at all. I think that there is no point, and that it is a waste of money. News should be free not something that everyone has to pay for, just to find out something that will go away in a few days if it is not important. I would not pay for online news content. Not all newspapers are going out of business. I'd rather read news in print. If the era of newspapers comes to an end, however, then I still would not pay. I would have no need to. There are a lot of reliable free news websites and shows out there (especially CNN student news!).
I think that paying for a online newspaper isn't a not so great idea. I feel that if you had to pay for the online than people might not even read the newspaper. Also if this puts the actual newspaper writers out of business, then there won't be any paper newspapers and just online and what if some people don't have internet, than they can't read the newspaper and then its just not fair.
I don't think i would pay for any news. I am not really interested in any news. Except for obituaries and new babies. If you had to pay for them I think I would pay for that. There's many other ways we could find out news, like telivison, so it wouldn't be much of a smart choice for them to make us pay anyway.. And we'd still have sites like CNN 🙂

OMG!!! people shouldn't have to put up with paying for online news! Its a disgrace to the public! I go online to cnn, and fox 11 just to see the weather, or find out about the economy, if i got to pay for it... I'll explode!

i think that paying for online news is crazy, most people read the online news because they cant afford the regular paper or because they dont have the time to sit down and read it. Also the average person doesnt read every news article they are usally searching for one thing. The people who are reading the online news also have to pay for internet access so in a way they still have to pay to read the online news.
