A Lion in the Snow?

Mario and Adam wrote in that they thought they saw a lion in the snow during a recent report on CNN Student News.  We checked, and what you see at about 4:37 into Monday's show really does look like a lion!  However, if you look really closely and maybe pause the video, you'll see that the animal is a breed of dog known as a collie.  It might look bigger than a dog because of its extra-thick winter coat.

Thanks for writing in, guys!

A lion? Yeah right. I'm pretty sure lions don't hang around in the snow. But hey. Weirder things have happened.

I think that house was pretty COOL! I would not want to live there though because, I am scared of bears, and wild animals.

I agree. A lion? I don't think lions hang around in the snow. I know weirder things happened. Lions eat meat so be careful.

I really don't care if it is a lion just make sure it's caught and found out if it is a lion or an over-sized dog.

It's pretty funny that they thought it was a lion. Weird things happen like that, but I doubt a lion would be hanging around in the snow! I don't even like to hang in the cold snow ha ha ha!

Fat chance you'd see a lion in the snow. Lions live in mountains and hot savannahs. Plus, a lion needs 15 hours of sleep a day. It won't get that much if it sleeps in places with really cold temperatures... although a bear wouldn't mind. The point is, looking for a lion in the snow is like looking for a $5 item at a dollar store...or is it?

I'm with Dominik on this one. Lions live in the grasslands of Africa, not the U.S. However, like most animals, lions can be found in display at zoos.

Who would have thought? How could you mistake a dog for a lion? Lions live in Africa. There maybe a couple of lions in zoos. But lions don’t live over here. Not in less you count the mount lion and that is not even a lion it gets it name because it has the same color coat as its Africa brothers and sisters. Not to think the dog was pure white. Lions don’t have white coats. Their coats are tan and can run to other color. But I think it is mostly tan.

there is no way that a lion could be in the snow unless theres some circus who cant controll the lions ha! well it must be like a golden retreiver or a chow chow going for a walk!!!

I honestly feel pretty bad for the lion, it is probably freezing right now. I highly doubt a lion would be comfortable in that those type of conditions. It may eventually freeze to death.
