A-Rod's Admission

The man whom many consider to be the best player in Major League Baseball has admitted to using a "banned substance" during the 2001-2003 seasons.  Alex Rodriguez's admission and apology, which you hear about in Tuesday's program, come just after a Sports Illustrated report that Rodriguez tested positive for illegal steroids in 2003.

Rodriguez is about to begin his 15th year in the majors.  He has hit more than 500 home runs and been named the American League MVP three times.  He has also signed a 10-year, $275 million contract for the New York Yankees.

But he has admitted to using an illegal, performance-enhancing drug.  So what does this change?  What should it change?

It's weird to think he even needs to take a high performance drug. He's good enough without them. I'm for sure having second thoughts with him.

I think that using steroids would be a waste of time. All that it will do for you is nothing, and you can lose your job.

If it happened in 2003 why didn't they confront him about it then instead of waiting for 6 years.

Seriously? Atheletes make a name for themselves, and ruin their reputation by making idiotic choices. Young people like me have idolized these atheletes for many years and aspire to be like them. Teenagers look to these people as role models, and apparently, that’s why some teens choose to make bad choices. Michael Vick was probaly one of the greatest athelete ever, but making a bad choice lost my respect and most of his team’s organization. It is a commitment, choice, and a PRIVILAGE to play any type of sport at the big level, so make the right choice.

He shouldn't recieve all the same perks as other players just because he confessed; he knew what he was doing was illegal, and he shouldn't be treated any differently than the others that have abused the use of steroids.

I think that it makes it a little hader for anyone to belive Alex and my trust in him (well from my point of view). If a player is caught using any illegal drug enhancements that person should probably get weekly check-ups and pledge to not use preformance enhancing-drugs that are illegal. Wow that sounds good I should take your job Carl. >:)

Nothing should change. Anyone who says that they wouldn't use performance enhancing drugs to make them do there job better and make more money is a hypocrite. Plus this was a positive test back in 2003, when there was no testing for it.

It should change everything. Anyone who uses an illegal performance-enhancing drug should not be able to keep their numbers. We all know that Bonds used something, his numbers shouldn't stand and either should A-Rod's. He used steriods and now there has to be some type of conquence. A-Rod's numbers are jokes now.

Well...he CONFESSED right? Some people deny that they were doing out-of-law stuffs but A-Rod told the truth. I think we shouldn't do anything to him. Forget about his wrongdoings and let us hope he crushes another ball for the Yankees next games!

About streroids : if they make you breasts instead of muscles what's the point of using them?Does athletes want that much to wear bras?

I think that he shouldn't have dine it in the first place and taken care of himself better. But I don't really care what happens to him or the team because I just don't like baseball.

I don't think that players should use steroids. It's not good for them(health wise) and it doesn't set a good example for people who look up to those players because using steroids is like say they don't need to work hard at all at there sports playing.

I say throw him out of MLB. Unfortunately, my dad said steroids weren't illegal in 2003. That still doesn't change anything, though. If they don't throw him out, don't count any of the records he has broken. HE CHEATED. I know he's broken a lot of records, and really big ones, and so has Barry Bonds. He cheated to get the all time home run record, but they counted it anyway, which is cheap. Don't count any records that have been cheated to get.

I think that it was smart for him to confess to using the drugs. I don't think it is that big of a deal though because he stopped in 03, and it wasn't that big of a deal then.

I've never liked A-Rod very much any way, because he's on the Yankees. (GO SOX!) But I have sympathy for A-Rod. He's only human, and like Michael Phelps, he made a mistake he will learn from. He may get a lot of negative feedback from this; it's what he deserves. But he will learn a lesson of not doing it again. As some people say, "the best way to learn is to learn from mistakes."

We think that it's not fair to the other players who worked hard to become better, if other players are simply taking steroids. Everyone should be allowed to take steroids or no one should be able to.

If this happened in 2003 then why didn't they ban him in 2003 or 2001 because if they knew he was doing steroids and they didn't ban him then it's their fault, if you do something thats bad in 2001-2003 but you get away with it then come 2009 and it's e legal then it's the person that let it goes fault.

I think it changes the way he plays and how people think of him. There are always going to be drugs wherever you go. People know what it does to them, so they take the risk. I just don't get why when someone no one knows smokes pot, no one really cares (unless they're the cops) but when a sportsman or celebrity takes it, they're immediately branded and maybe even hated. Don't hate someone because they do drugs, they just made a bad decision. A-Rod is a good ball player, I just think he should be suspended maybe for a few games and given a chance to stop. Maybe even put him under surveillance. I don't condone drugs, but someone's career and life shouldn't be flushed down the toilet because of them.

    February 10, 2009 at 8:08 am |
  23. Laura

I think using banned substance and openly admitting to it is stupid. Using banned drugs and other things can be a problem. If you play a sport is it worth it to lose your career for drugs. If you get seen using them you can lose everything you have. You basically lose all you have to live for. What are you going to do without your favorite sport to work with? And what if the team you work with is mad because you were found out by the law or something.

I think that steroid use in baseball needs to take a chill pill. While there at it, why don’t they band Gatorade and all other types of substances that can enhance your performance like energy drinks? Etc. I think that this all crazy, it’s just steroids guys, take a chill pill.

    February 10, 2009 at 9:06 am |
  26. Michael

As of now, I don’t think anything should change. It’s allegedly been 4-5 years since he has used anything and that should’ve been enough time for the effects to have worn off. He may have “cheated” before now but as long as he’s not using them anymore he should be allowed to continue.

    February 10, 2009 at 9:07 am |
  27. ely

I don't think he should be allowed to play baseball in the Major League. Even though he did hit all those home runs and was named MVP, it wasn't because of his skill, it was because of the drugs. His contract should be cancled, almost anyone could be as good as him if they took steriods too. They should let someone who's clean take his spot. It's not fair to the other players.
It's not Rodriguez who's the great player, it was the steroids.
He should be punished and taken out of the league instead of inspiring other kids to do the same as him.

    February 10, 2009 at 9:07 am |
  28. Patrick

Yes A-Rod admitted to using steroids, that’s a step in the right direction, but that shouldn’t mean he gets off the hook. He profited and continues to profit from breaking the rules/laws. Something should be done about this. As my dad likes to say, “sorry don’t feed the bulldog.”

    February 10, 2009 at 9:08 am |
  29. Jesse

I do not exactly know how A-Rod would be handled by the performance enhancing drugs after he confessed. As he said, steroids are new technologies for sports. What he said sounds reasonable. I do not exactly know what should happen to A-Rod. I think he should stay and redeem himself. People make mistakes. Let it be.

    February 10, 2009 at 9:12 am |
  30. Spud

Due to A-Rod’s use of steroids in baseball it should affect him. However, he did come out clean with using this substance unlike other players. Because A-Rod came out and said he did take steroids in 2003 it shouldn’t completely ruin his chances of going into the hall of fame. Instead it should just make it more difficult, but still able to make it.

I think that it is morally wrong to use something that makes you bigger and better than anyone who works hard and actually deserve the benefits. It is pathetic to use steroids and anyone who uses steroids should not be able to have any record at all in the hall of fame or in any world record book. Steroids users are pathetic a disgrace to professional baseball.

This is just another reason people won't like Alex Rodriguez! Its just a disgrace to all baseball and its just disappointing to me and anyone that truly loves baseball! That isn't true baseball that is stupid cheep baseball! Those aren't even his true skills those are the steroids skills! 🙁

It is pretty bad that this star baseball player has admitted in using this steroids. It takes a lot of courage to tell the world what he has done, but it is pretty serious. This guy has had many outstanding seasons which means that he is a role model for many kids that now probably don't know what to think of him because of the situation. This should and probably now will change many people's opinions on him and what they think of him in his everyday life.

Drugs are bad, they are illegal, he knows this, he did it anyway. He cheated. He should be suspended from his career just like Michael Phelps.

    February 10, 2009 at 9:28 am |
  41. Sam

I think A-Roid is still one of the best players in the game. Many people say he is no better than Bonds now, but he admitted to steriod use and will not be doing time. He still might make it to Cooperstown, as the voters are more forgiving to players who are open about their steriod use in the past.

    February 10, 2009 at 9:42 am |
  42. Joshua

It is good that is admission and apology for what he did, but the only reason he apology in the first place was becasue everyone find out. If no one had never find out about it, he most likey would have keep doing it andnot say anything about it. I feel that he should not get off so easy.

Well it wasn't illegal at one point of baseball until 2000 then it became banned so Alex Rodriguez new what he was getting into but I feel like Barry Bonds is okay because it wasn't banned from baseball so for him I guess it's okay.

I think that a super star like A. Rod. should have a second chance because baseball is a good sport and that he is one of the best in history and he deserves a second chance and at least he apologise so I would give him a second chance but if he does it again he would deserve a punishment like going to jail for a year or two and I would smack him in the face if does it ever again.

    February 10, 2009 at 10:08 am |
  50. Devon

Well I have really never liked A – Rod. So when he said he used Performance – enhancing drug it didn't shock me. I don't really look up to many baseball players because they lie about using the drug like Barry Bonds. You can tell he takes it so just tell him to take a test once a week then he is fine. He will be fined.

I don't think that he should be able to play baseball any more, but he shouldn't go to jail for something like that. Ya he said that he was sorry and admitted that he used them out loud and in public but it was technically against the rules for him to do that even if it was only in 2001-2003 he should still suffer the consequences.

I don't think it's fair that anyone takes steroids. Why should one person have to work extra hard to make it to a high status in sports, when another can make it just by taking steroids? And they aren't very good for you later on; why would someone do that? It must make you feel pretty guilty, though.

I think that all the players that use steroids that if they have a record it shouldn't count. I think this because that think about the person that was in second and didn't use steroids. I bet there thinking man I could have had it. He went to practice every day and practiced his hardest. When the person that is using steroids only worked half that hard and used steroids and cheated. They should get there record taken away.(Barry Bonds)

It's just stupid whenever a celebrity or somebody famous uses illegal substances but whenever a normal person like you or me if they would use them big deal. Using steroids in sports is like using loaded dice or marked cards. As such, the punishment should be the same. I wouldn't play anymore with someone who used fixed dice, and before long no one else would either. Anyone who uses performance-enhancing drugs should be banned from their game.

I think A-rod should have every title he won from 2001 to 2003 taken away because he won them unfairly. He should not be arrested because he has not taken any since but he should at least be fined. You shouldn't just take steroroids and get away with it. What kind of message does that send to other people?

    February 10, 2009 at 1:28 pm |
  95. Robert

They should only let the people who don't use sarioids (drugs) play with the big leagues.

    February 10, 2009 at 1:29 pm |
  96. Annie (-;

    Err, A-Rod kind of scares me because he's so big, but that's because of the steroids. That's kind of messed up, but who cares. All humans make mistakes. (-;

  97. Breanna(-;

i think he should of never used steriods! thats horrible for the body! and it took him out of what he loved doing most!

    February 10, 2009 at 2:02 pm |
  98. Arturo

I think its ok to take steriods becuse if you want them you take them if you dont you dont. it's like food it makes you better if you choose to eat it then eat it if you dont its your fault.

i think he should be kicked out of mlb and be put into jail because just because your famous dose not mean you have get out of a jail free card. hes no diffrent then anybody else the way god wants it to be 🙂

you know that performance-enhancing drugs are not fair because of the real players. The people that use performance-enhancing drugs should feel bad because there fans of all ages are being let down and feel lied to because of the drugs. arod and phelps should be ashamed of themslefs and should be band form sports because they put shame to the name of sports and fans.

    February 10, 2009 at 3:42 pm |
  101. Sherwin

Carl I think he should be banned all together. If you couldn't cheat off your friends test in the 5th grade, you can't do it in major leage baseball either.

    February 10, 2009 at 3:48 pm |
  102. Hunter

i am so disappointed in him. I think they should ban him from the MLB

    February 10, 2009 at 3:57 pm |

    February 10, 2009 at 4:00 pm |
  104. Bryant

well in my opinion if it counts i can honsetly say is that you should acomplish your goals without cheating.make ideal goals dont use steroids to make you stronger and get your way to the top because if people find out thus is the net result of your actions.

Players like Alex Rodriguez are the reason that people are questioning the game of baseball. For fifteen years, whether people liked A-rod or not, he performed at an incredibly high level. People really aren't even surprised that this happened anymore. It's just another star that cheated the game by using illegal substances while other players actually work with the natural ability that they have been given

    February 10, 2009 at 4:13 pm |
  106. Sydney

I Think They Shouldnt Let Him Play Anymore
Even Though It Was The Past, It Doesnt Make A Diffrence.

i think he should be punished. He is only famous because he took steroids in 2001-2003

I dont get why they waited until now to admit something like this.
The only thing theyre causing is a huge mess like this.
At least he admitted it and not lie about it like Barry Bonds and Roger Clemens did. They might have to go to prison for lying to a fedral grad jury. Now that's just not right.

this will change the way people all aroung the world look at him. And thats the way it should be. someone who takes drugs has to remember the consequences of their actions.

  111. Madeline

A-Rod is an awesome Basebally player, he admitted using steriods from 2001-03. That was the past, this is the present. We all know steriods is bad just suspend him for a few months and fine. He is amazing at baseball let him play!!

    February 10, 2009 at 5:42 pm |
  112. Hunter

It's a good thing A-Rod admitted his use. I think Michael Phelps should of did the same. Yet you have to remember it was from 2001-03 when he wasn't on the Yankees and that was when he used steroids. Yet he could still use them now, but I doubt that.

    February 10, 2009 at 5:44 pm |
  113. Johnny

A-Rod did the right thing by confessing to taking peformance enhancing drugs. I still think he should be punished for his actions even though he's a famous baseball player. Steroids are illegal, so that's another thing to think about.

    February 10, 2009 at 5:53 pm |
  114. pops

I think that A-ROD can't just put that behined him and move on he has to think about all the other players that work there whole lives to make it and when he got called up to the big squad alot of hard working guys did not.

    February 10, 2009 at 6:38 pm |
  115. Carlos

This year it is illegal because steroids could have side effects but why would Alex take steroids because he is good at Baseball.

    February 10, 2009 at 6:49 pm |
  116. Dustin

The fact that A-Rod admitted to using a performance-enhancing drug changes how his fans (and other people) view him. Because he admitted his mistake, I think the Yankees should change his contract, his ability to play ball (ban or suspend him), and his award won during his use of the illegal performance-enhancing drug. The MLB should remove his records because the drug affected his performance, which is kind of like cheating. The good thing was that he stopped using the performance-enhancing drug.

    February 10, 2009 at 6:57 pm |
  117. Nick

yea im disapointed. he is a bad influene steriiods r bad. im soo angry with him. u dont even know

    February 10, 2009 at 7:17 pm |
  118. Mary

I think it is a good thing that he confessed before it got to out of hand. But that still doesn't change the fact that he did take steroids at one point in his career. Parents looked at him as an idol for their kids, and kids looked at him as an idol for them. What he confessed could possibly change that. It doesn't matter when he used steroids, it's the fact that he did use steroids.

    February 10, 2009 at 7:43 pm |
  119. Gillian

I think even if he is sorry he should still pay tghe price for what he did wrong. he should be ashamed of himself for setting a bad example for his fans.

  120. Lafawnda

So what, he used steroids. Just leave him alone if he's taking them what's the big deal. Maybe all athletes should take them.

    February 10, 2009 at 7:50 pm |
  121. Melissa

I think it's pretty bad that he used steriods. But if it was in 2003 to 2001, then how come they didn't do anything about it? I know how it is illegal now, but it's still bad...

    February 10, 2009 at 8:04 pm |
  122. Melissa

    I mean 2001 to 2003. sorry lol

    February 10, 2009 at 8:10 pm |
  123. Alex

A-rod has been an inspiration to kids across the nation for years and he always will. One mistake doesn't make a difference. Think about all the good performance enhancing drug free moments he's had. He knows it was wrong. Just one mistake by a baseball legend is going to make you look down on him.

    February 10, 2009 at 8:35 pm |

Who cares if A-Rod used roids in 01-03 it was leagal than ever since they banned it he stopped using so why are they making a big deal about it.

    Steriods Steriods Steriods....
shame on them they all need to respect their own skills in a sport if 1 player takes um they soon they all will and to me that doesn't seem entertaining if everyones on so special drug

I think everyone should a-rod a break. I can understand that when your new in the league, and are expected to perform at a high level, of course you are going to feel pressure! Now he has realized what he has done wrong and is suffering the consequences from the media, other organizations, and most importantly his fans.

    February 10, 2009 at 9:21 pm |
  129. Patrick

At least he told the truth about this. It takes a lot of guts to come out and admit this sort of thing. and thank god he isn't going to turn this into a Clemens, Bonds, or McGwire case where they just lie and lie throught trial.

    February 10, 2009 at 9:25 pm |
  130. Kagen

I don't under stand why he did it mabe becouse of pressure. but he got big while others are in gyms and thats not right

    February 10, 2009 at 9:46 pm |
  131. Jamiyah

Why take energy boosters when your supposed to be a pro at it because your cheating the game and what does that do to the other baseball players. But, it changes peoples thoughts on him because he needs to take a drug just to play a pro sport. So, no more awards for him which might change. Yea i think he should get suspended or even get fired. But its good that he admitted it two points for him but he would have gotten caught anyways.

    February 10, 2009 at 11:16 pm |
  132. Michael

Well first off he shouldn't be using performance-enhancing drug at all that is cheating and it was banned during the time he used it. Also, he should have been more off a man and confess earlier when he was using it and be honest. Now a lot of people/ fans will think he is a liar. Last, what makes you think he isn't going to use them again?

    February 10, 2009 at 11:17 pm |
  133. Damion

I most definitdley think A- Rod should be suspended. The MLB should remove ALL of his records and achievments. And he will definitdley not be the most highest paid baseball player after this incident. Im very dissapointed.

    February 10, 2009 at 11:18 pm |
  134. Miah

nothing should be held against him for using steorids, i don't think he's the only one who has used them. there are many other pro athletes who i'm sure use them.

It was a decision he had made 6 years ago. No, I don't think anything is going to change, but i believe he should be punished in some way. Even if he goes unpunished, I believe he has definately lost some respect, especially from the parents who's kids look up to him as a role model.

    February 11, 2009 at 8:14 am |
  137. Amber

I think that when a professional athlete uses proformence-enhancing drugs that it changes the way everyone looks at him, and if this is just forgoten is that sending the message to kids and rising stars that they are ok, and that it is ok to use them? Mabye we sould pay people like policemen, firefighters, or docters millions instead of them...what have they done with it?

    February 11, 2009 at 9:09 am |

People should not use steroids in sports. The sport players need to stop using the drugs. They can kill sports player. Witch is bad for the team. That is all I think want should happen. Accept the sports deading.

I think it was not cool for A-Rod to use steriods. It was not fair for those players that did not use them. But he did tell the truth and he is not using them anymore. he should be cut of his record and have to make it up again.

I think this should change the way that people view him as a person. This shows that he doesn't think he doesn't believe in himself to do the things he does. I think that it did change the way some people think of him. Some people and/or kids may have looked up to him and to be their role model. He ruined that for them.

I think that A-Rod should have to pay some money for taking steroids and have to do 2 to 3 years in jail because sorry don't always work for everything unless your me and can try to get away from everything. JUST JOKING!!!! Also taking steroids is like cheating at a video game or lying.

I think he made a mistake and we all do... his was really big and not the smartest chocie. He did do the right thing saying he did do it, instead of hiding it and making a bigger deal than it needs to be.

I would never take any drug at all that had to do with getting stronger. I would just work out. What he did was wrong. He should be in jail for a couple months. Saying the word "sorry" is just a word. Can't change that.

    February 11, 2009 at 6:04 pm |
  165. Stephanie

A-Rod has ruined his life, period. There is nothing he can do. He was taking illegal drugs. They are ILLEGAL. I don't care about the fact that he is famous and blah, blah, blah. He should be suspended for life. And there is no way that his 10-year contract should still be in play, and none of his current records should be in ANY hall of fame.

  166. mimii(:

im a fan of A-Rod and all but using steroids to enhance his performance ? now thats low . i have to admit, it is true that baseball is just entertainment but that doesnt give him the right to do something illegal in such a situation or whatever . it doesnt matter that he admitted it or not because well we all knew that it was true and he did it like 6 years ago and he "admits" it now ? suspicious much . well anyways, i think that he should be like banned from MLB because thats like really unfair for someone that actually works hard to earn that money when A-Rod just "pssh", "bam", "boom", stick needle in arm and there POOF ! million dollars per game.. UNFAIR AND UNREAL !

    February 11, 2009 at 8:41 pm |
  167. Meg

I think that it was very mature of A-Rod to admit that he was using sterioids, but, on the other hand it was never a good idea in the first place to take them. I think that since he was on steriods when he broke the record for the most home runs it should not count because it wasn't him that hit the home runs, it was the steroids.

    February 11, 2009 at 8:54 pm |
  168. Grace

I think they need to reconsider his contract and awards again. He was offered that contract while he was considered "banned substance"-free. It's like cheating on a test. You might get the 'A' at first, but when people find out you cheated, you're in trouble and the 'A' isn't yours anymore.

I think it is unfair to the rest of the team that he is takeing steroids while they're playing fair. He needs to actually play without steroids because he's just a big loser if hes cheating and I dont like cheaters!

alex Rodriguez is an idiot. He was desperate for attention since he wasnt doing as well as he was when he was getting pressed down by all the news crews and the photagraphers. He is acting like a desperate teenage girl wanting to be popular. He needs to be banned just to show an example that it will not be tolerated same thing with michael phelps.

He should have never done that and he should have just stayed drug free because I am a fan of a-rod and all but that was really wrong of him to do that. He has ruined his life. They are illegal. But then everyone makes mistakes and he should stop and start over on his life. But then again it changed everyone’s perspective on him, like they might think that he is taking steroids again. Idk...

Wow. I can’t believe that A-Rod would do that to himself. He completely ruined his life and his baseball career by doing steroids. I mean seriously, why would you even do them? I personally don’t think you need steroids when playing a sport. It’s called train harder and longer and suck it up if you don’t win or you’re not as ripped as another person on the team.

    February 12, 2009 at 12:50 pm |
  180. Erik

I seriously think that A-Rod will be fine. I mean come on tons of players take roids. Im not saying it's right for people to do it cause it could mess you up. Im just saying that you can't take him out because the test was 4 years ago almost 5 and the fans love him.

i dont like that people use steriods bacause they get too good and it takes the point of the game away if they want to be the best then train to be the best you can be dont cheat and use steroids but under all of the pressure it could get really bad with every one useing it around him and i bet he just used it a couple of times not like so much to the point where he gets too big so thats mah comment yal 🙂

If somebody has to take steroids to enhance they're performance, then they shuoldn't be playing sports. They should be one of those guys in magazines who are ripped, but they can't do anything because it's just drugs. I mean A-Rod is a great player no doubt about it, but now that everyone knows that it's because of steroids, it's really a dissapointment to his fans and to the people of baseball. It's just stupid. No one thinks they will get caught, but in the long run, you're really going to get busted. So grow up and think about what you're doing.

i dont think it changes anything, and i dont even think it should. he still used the drugs.

I think that it’s stupid for him to do steroids. And he can be just as good without steroids.

I think A-rod made the worst mistake of his life doing what he did. He has children that look up to him in what he does. Even though people make mistakes that is a pretty messed up mistake. I

I think that whoever is caught doing steroids in professional sports should lose their contracts. First there should be mandatory drug and steroid testing to keep people from doing them. Second I think that A-Rod should take drug tests regularly so that his fans will trust him again. Finally I think that they should lose their contracts because using performance enhancing is like cheating.

I think that all of the baseball history records should be gone because maybe they were set by Steroids.

I think ARod is dumb for doing steroids because he sets examples fo kids and doing steroids is not a good example to set.

I think A rod should wuit. He's getting old and he needs to find a new way to earn money.

I think that it was STUPID for him to do that to himself. I mean come on he was doing just fine without it.

I think that some people that use steroids should loose their contract. Otherwise, there are some people who shouldn't. If it someone with history of using drugs, the they should loose their contract, but people that is the first shouldn't.

i think that it was stupid of A-rod to do what he did, but I don't think he should loose his contract. If it was his first time using drugs then he shouldn't loose his contract, but if he has a history then, he should loose his contract.

I believe that this shouldn’t exactly affect him. A- Rod was a great player before he took them and he still is. I think its good that he admitted to using steroids. We all need to think of all the other athletes who probably took them, but of course they never were brave enough to admit. He did a very wrong thing, and I agree that it was a dumb choice, but unlike some others, he confessed. He’s an amazing baseball player and should stay on the Yankee’s. I may be upset like others, and I may be sad because he let all of those people who looked up to him down, but EVERYONE makes stupid mistakes.

I think A-Rod made a mistake by using steroids. He screwed up his career and lied to some of his fans. A-Rod cheated his team and the other teams that was a mistake he shouldn’t have made.

Even though a-rod took streroids, he should be let go. He is every girls dream.

    February 12, 2009 at 5:12 pm |

Finding out one of the world’s best baseball players was using steroids is appalling. He cheated his way to the top when he probably could have done it anyway by just working harder, wanting it enough that he wouldn’t have taken the drug that could change his life.

    February 12, 2009 at 5:14 pm |
  203. Andrew

A-rod is good with out steroids. He should not have took them. Maybe if he thought, he would not have been put on the spot.

    He's good enough without them.

I really don’t know A-Rod, but I know what he did was horrible. First of all, he should of just been getting strong like the rest of us, not with steroids. Also, this effected everyone one around him and plus no one likes to hang out with a druggie. Lastly, you get in MAJOR trouble and have to be in rehab. So no matter who you are don’t do it..

    February 12, 2009 at 5:17 pm |

If he was cought doing steroids he should have been kicked out yes, but he is a good player and he appologized.

I think that A-Rods history with the Texas Rangers Should be deleted because of his use of steroids, and though that was a few years ago I think that, that doesn't matter at all.

I’m not sure who this guy is but all I know is that steroids are very bad for you and you should never take them. If you love a sport enough and are good enough to be in the pro’s then you shouldn’t ruin your dream just for something that eventually people will find out and then its all down hill from there.

    February 12, 2009 at 5:21 pm |

I think that since it was six years ago it was a mistake he made and one he regrets. We are only human and i think next time he'll think before he does anything illegal.

GRRRRR!!! How could anyone in their right mind do something so STUPID?!?! "Hey, look at me! I'm a famous baseball player!! Look at me! I take steroids! What's that? Steroids are illegal? Oh, so sorry. Can I keep playing anyways???" RAWR!!! They need to do annual steroid checks or something so freaks will just stop doing stuff like this... Word to the wise: Keep away from steroids and other drugs! Not only is it bad for you and you career, It shames your team as well.

A rod did a very bad thing to his teamates and I think he wanted to be as tough as Barry Bonds. Shame on A – rod

I think he was wrong to do what he did with the steriods. It was a selfless act. I feel like he let down his fans and set a bad example for all.

Its very disapointing to see a great player take drugs but i think it was a good thing that he admitted it but theres no excuss for what he did and he deserves what he gets!

I think A Rod is takeing a step upward to admiting to takeing steroids but he should of been real with himself....nobody makes themself look better doing any types of drugs.Him doing steroids makes him look weak and makes his teammates and coch look not so good.
And made everybody that idoloized him feel hopeless....What are they gonna do now nowing the person that was there idol was liveing his carrer as a lie?!

At least he is man enough to tell the truth, not like Clements or Bonds who we all know they did this too ( look at their necks ) that is tell, tell
enough. Those two Clements and Bonds have no place in the Hall of Fame for baseballers, they are a FRAUD.

I think that A-Rod's admission adds to the importance of Major League Baseball dealing with the issue of performance enhancing drugs. I do think he handled the situation very well, except for the part where he started to blame Selena Roberts for "stalking" him. This may lose him Hall of Fame votes, though I think he should be enshrined because of the fact that you have to start with things like hand-eye coordination before steroids can be used to help you improve. Steroids only help you to be able to recover faster & workout more vigorously. Obviously, even out of high school A-Rod was a great player & has been for the last five years, when he has not tested positive.

I think that it is his body and that he should be able to do steroids if he wants but I also think that he should also think about all of his fans and what they are gonna think

  224. Edward

Yeah, like those are totally bad for you... why would anyone want to do steriods when you have a life...apparently, he doesn't....jk:)

I think that A-Rod should be put in jail.

Just because he is a celebrity doesn't mean he gets special treatment. Just like Michael Phelps. He even admitted that he did marjuaina and they still aren't going to do anything.

Because he won 8 gold medals because he is like the best swimmer ever. I don't really watch the olympics so I don't really know what kind of stroke he's famous for.

    Anyway, back to the point.

When Paris Hilton had like 30 D.U.I's she had to serve like 30 days in jail.

She got fed gormeut food and got treated like a princess. Why? Cause she's famous, and her dad founded a hotel and it's the best hotel ever. He has millions of dollars in the past years and she gets like half of it to spend on herself and little dog she always carries in her gucci or chanel bag.

The point is that celebritys shouln't get special treatment.

I think he should still play, but should not be allowed into the hall of fame. it's only fair.

  229. Adam

I think that he should get punished but for only this year and it dosnt matter if he brakes the home run record because so did barry bonds and he took steriods

    February 25, 2009 at 9:15 am |
  230. Tommy

I think it was wrong for alex rodriguez to do steroids. But that was in 2001-2003. They cant punish him now because it happened back then. I think everyone should stop looking in the past and start look ing in the future. the steroids have worn out and its a fair game. Also there were 141 more people on the steroid list so everyone should stop picking on him.

    February 25, 2009 at 5:20 pm |
  231. Marco

I think that a rod should be suspened for his actions

He should because it took him 5 years for him to tell every one that he took steriods.
Also he shouldnt be able to break the homerun record because he used steriods and thats bad!

I like a rod but he made the wrong choice =(

    February 25, 2009 at 5:34 pm |
  232. Marco

also a rod as much as he gets paid should get fined for doing this.

a rod get paid so much money that he probably couldnt use it in 200 years.
He should get half of wat his contract is right now!!

also he shouldnt be able to have any more commercials ads because then other people will think it is just ok to take steriods!!!!! ty =(

hey marco they cant do anything it was five years ago

A-rod is so stupid for doing drugs, i mean didnt he go though DARE like the rest of us? i mean come on, if your backs hurting, take a pain reliver not drugs.

    February 27, 2009 at 7:58 pm |
  236. Nate

The fact that a rod did steroids is wrong, but that was 5-7 years ago. The past is over and we need to move on. Any records that he gets should be kept and i think he should still be allowed to go into the hall of fame. It doesn't change anything to me except losing a few fans and i don't think it should change anything.

    February 28, 2009 at 10:39 am |

A-rod is a well known player hes well respected and then this hits him i think should of been taken care back in 2003 that when he tested positive i don't think he should punished we have to move it not that important every one should leave him alone
