You're Drinking WHAT?
In the time I've worked here, I've seen stories as NASTY as they are funny. One that comes to mind involved coffee that was processed through civet cats. Here's what I mean: Civet cats eat certain coffee beans. Then, they pass the coffee beans (you know what I mean). Afterward, the beans are cleaned up, roasted and sold for a fortune. Mmmm.
I've never tried cat box coffee, and I wouldn't want to be the first to take a swig of NASA's recycled wastewater. It's produced by a machine that takes sweat and urine (as in SWEAT AND URINE), filters it, and squirts out fresh drinking water.
Is it harmful? Probably not. Good for the environment? It definitely recycles. Gross? Well, that depends on whether you'd drink filtered urine.

I don't think many people would want to drink recycled urine. But if your brave enough to do so, then I guess drinking filtered waste is aq good way to recycle.
My mom works for NASA and has told me about the "drinks" they have. But think about it.. when you up in space with nothing to drink.. Bottoms up!
I don't think I would take my chances on drinking water made out of waste, I would probably get sick that way.
I t would be good for the environment, maybe I might if I was a astronauts, but you wouldn't catch me drinking it in Earth-not until science andtechnology is more developed.

I don't think drinking filtered waste water wouldn't be gross. After all, the water you drink everyday is filtered from dirty water you don't know what might have happened to it before. Like some dogs pee into and than it's filtered than you drank it, you wouldn't know that.

I wouldn't drink the water if I knew it was made from urine and sweat. If it was given to me and I didn't know that it was made from urine and sweat I would drink it not knowing what it was. Over all it is disgusting.
The way I see it is that if you are up in space and you have nothing to drink, then I guess you have to use what you have. As long as it is safe for you and whouldn't get you sick, it is good enough for me.
I guess that if the world was in a crisis of no water then we would do anything such as recycling urine and sweat. But thats is just NASTY. i would probly drink it if the bottle did not say it was recycled of urine and sweat , if it was i would just go to another company.
When urine leaves the body, it is sterile, so you couldn't really get sick. It is a great way to recycle, but kind of disgusting. Who'd want to drink their own waste? Gross!
I think that changing pee into water is very resourceful, but I also think that it is very gross. I would definately not be the first one to try it!
I don’t think I want to drink the water that recycled, or I think wouldn’t to know the water that I’m drinking how is it come from. I think it does make me sick and basically I don’t think most people will drink it too. I understand that when we in the space we shouldn’t have a lot of water and some food so I think yeah it’s pretty ok to drink that water if I’m in the space !!!

As revolting as it is to have to drink sweat and urine, I think that it is a really good idea. If the filtration system works correctly, that is. I mean, our tap water we drink every day is pretty much the same thing- filtered waste. The only difference would be that our filtration systems, I hope, are larger and more complex than something in space. Now, I’m not saying I’d be the first to try drinking from NASA’s filter, but the water should be just as clean as the water we drink daily.
I think that it would be a little to natural to drink something that you made. I also think that it would be pretty grose of someone if they drank somethink like that and it could really mess up there system

I do not think people would like to drink recycled water. To me that just sounds so nasty like for example i think it is like getting a water bottle out of the trash that still has wat erin it and drink it that is so nasty to me.
I though that it would be cool to be a astronaut when I got older. But this is over the top! If you had to drink you urine, instead of fresh water, that is a job I wouldn't consider on the top of my list. If it was a option, then I would still consider being a astronaut.

I donʻt think that its such a good idea to drink peopleʻs urine and sweat. Even though they think that all those chemicals are gone, there could still be some in there but they donʻt know about it. This could result in a bad or good way... I guess weʻll just have to find out.

Personally, I can't think of many things that would be nastier. There are so many things on earth that are sanitary enough to convert to pure drinking water. Sweat and Urine should NOT be included in those conversions.
I'm kind of iffy on weather I'd try it or not but it sounds interesting. I mean yea kind of gross at the same time, it doesn't hurt to try new stuff, especially if it's helping the inviroment.

It's not that big of a deal that they are recycling the urine and sweat. tap water is made from the same water. tap water is filtered sewer water. I don't drink tap water because of the taste. But for people who drink it on a regular basis, there's nothing wrong with it.
I think that it sounds really gross to drink water that was at one time urine. After you think about that then you go and think about the tap water we drink. I am sure that at one time it was in a lot worse shape then that. I wouldn’t be the first one in line to try it but it isn’t totally nasty if you think of where our tap water comes from.
Pee water? Gross. That is absolutely disgusting. Recycling can only be taken so far. I’m all about recycling aluminum, paper, and plastic don’t get me wrong, but human waste? Absolutely not. That comes out of your body for a reason it does not need to be consumed again. I’m certainly picky about the water that I drink and I will not be taking a swig of any wastewater anytime soon.
i think this whole idea about the invention of recycling and then using it as water is a little crazy. I would want to make sure that my water was clean and did now have any nasty substances. I just think that NASA needs to realize what they are trying to do and if this recycled water want make them sick.
Urine and sweat sounds so unappealing. It doesn't matter how much was filtered out I still wouldn't be able to drink it. I know that all water is filtered, like the water that comes from the city, but i choose to pretend that it isn't nasty used water that I am drinking.
Well, technically, this is the same idea as water treatment plants. But, when you put it this way, that's gross. It makes sence, but I'm not sure I would want to know where my water is coming from. I already only drink bottled water, simply because I do not want to know where it came from. I'm sure if it wasn't advertised that it came from sweat and urine then people would never know the difference.

Well if you think about it we have been drinking the same water for thousands of years because of the water cycle.Since the water is evaporated it is filtered so why can't we do the same thing without the water cycle.

Recycled urine is disgusting, but you have to do what you have to do. At least it is recycled and we are the "green wing" so we like things that are recycled, but maybe not urine. By the way we don't think it is fair for the companies to give us less food and make us pay the same without telling us. Thanks CNN for telling us.

This is nasty but it is actually reasonable because it cost to much money to send water back up to the ship. This just renews the water resource and keeps NASA from using alot of the money to get them water. Tap water is just the same it just gets filtered just like this water will.

I think that the idea to recycle the water is a great idea. If you think about how much it costs to send water up there and back its going to be really expensive. So I think that we should just save money and recycle. Because we already recycle water now so why not in space.
I don't think that it is that farfetched, because that is what we do anyway. If you live in the city limits then you are drinking your own recycled waist water. And that cycle happens in nature naturally all the time through the ground and the clouds. IT isn't that crazy to think that it is possible and if you think it's disgusting then think about it the next time you drink your tap water.
If i was in the middle of the desert and i was dehydrated i would take my chances.
I think that filtering the urine to make water is a good idea. Although this is a good idea, I would most certainly not drink it. I also think that this is a good way to save our tax money, and to send it to a different place the money is needed. This type of technology needs to be implemented into making the salt water of the seas, made safe to drink.
Recycling used wastewater is a good idea if done correctly. If it isn’t done correctly then you might end up getting sick and with weird tasting water. If it is done right, it could be better for the environment. It could also help solve our water crysis in Georgia.
If they do end up doing this i would rather them not tell us. Just the thought of drinking pee or sweat is not the greatest thing in the world. They need to use the resources we have instead of producing more of it which costs even more money.

I really think this new "alternative" to drinking water is kind of far-fetched. It really depends on how thirsty you are and how far you want to go to get something to quench your thirst. All I know is, is that if I were to drink anything that was, is, or ever will be urine it would definitely be my OWN.

I think this "machine" will be great for the future because as the days go by our water supply is shrinking and we have to try something that makes water, so why not this?

I think it is great to turn your urine into water. Say you were stranded out in the forest and all you had was a ton of blueberries and a machine that turns your Urine into water. Would you drink that Water (urine)? I'd just hope it doesn't taste nasty.

To all who think it's disgusting, it's not like you have purified water every day when you're up in space. Well, technically, it is purified!! Purifying water is everywhere around the world (OR above it! dudun doosh), from purification tablets to life srtaw(tm), a straw that purifies water and adds a little taste. The instructions are simple: find water and drink as much as you need!
Well, even though it may sound disgusting we may have to turn to the sweat and urine recycling system. With less than three percent of the world's water being drinkable it's key conserve as much water as possible.

I think that it's gross to turn pee and sweat into water. I guess it may be something good to have though. Your body produces these things and if something happens to the water suppley we would have a backup plan.
Thats cool how they came up with a way to make drinking water out of sweat and urine but I would not drink it in a million years! But I kinda want to know what it is like?
I think that woild pretty disgusting. Just the thought of urine and sweat alone together is pretty gross. I would never drink that water!!
I think that is disgusting. It is a very good and creative idea but I wouldn't be able to drink the water with knowing where it came from. Sweat is a little better than urine but they're both pretty gross.
Carl I have to say that kind of freaks me out. i mean turning sweat and URINE in to drinking water thats just flat out weird! But i guess its cool in a really weird way, making different types of things into drinking water thats pretty cool.

I know if I was an astronaunt, I would be hesitant when drinking water that came from everybodies body on board, but if you think about it they are only speeding up the water cycle. so any water we drink has probably been inside something else stomach and gone through the other end. So you are drinking dinosaur pee but you'r okay with it because you don't have any idea where that glass of water you have in your hand actually came from.
I think that NASA has come up with a great idea to recycle urine. Although I don’t believe many people would really drink pee water. The only way I would drink it is if I was about to died. I never thought I would see someone drink pee.
I would try at least one time to see how it tasted. If it didnt taste bad I would drink it again.
If people didnt know at first and put it in bottles and see if anyone realized it tast different then why not but if u can tast it then i wouldnt drink it no matter what unless u payed me alot of money
I think that this is a great way to recycle, especially in space where they can’t get a lot of recourses. I would defiantly try this.

I porbley wouldn't drink my own urine. If it's the last thing to drink and I was going to die I would. If I become a astronut I would drink it but what else am I soppose to drink. We kind of already drink urine because water if filtered for that. Knowing it is my own urine I would not drink it.

Well I honestly never wanted to be an astronaut. This is definitely ruining it for me though. I don't think that I would ever drink water that was recycled like that. I don't care how clean it is. I would only ever drink that water if I HAD to.

On Dec 4th we watched an amazing story about a girl that could fly an airplane with her feet. I could not imagine what she would go through everyday. On Friday in Mr. Auer's class he had us do just a few things with our feet. Pick a stone up with our feet and put in a bowl, pick a pencil up with our feet a if we were going to write, and finally we had to write with our feet. We tried to write our name and it was very hard.She does everything with her feet and I respect that.Just thinking about what I did today using my hands makes me realize what you have to do. Because the chances are slim to get a scholarship to this college I would most likely choose the scholarship. Football may be a very big deal for others but being chosen for a scholarship must mean something. Most likely if you are chosen it is probably something that you should definitely look into. Maybe there is a road ahead that has your name on it!
