Honoring America's Veterans
This is a patriotic month: Exactly a week after voting for our nation's leaders, we celebrate our nation's veterans.
Right now, I'm working on a report about the history of Veterans Day. (And I'm pretty sure we have some historical World War I video to illustrate where the holiday has its roots.) What we'd like to include is what YOU have to say - how you'll honor America's veterans, or how you'd like to thank them for their service. Honoring veterans should be a honor. Those people almost killed themselves trying to save and protect our country. We should give all of them our respect.
This special day is a fantastic one that commemerates the millions of people who ever fought or gave up their time or even their lives for our counry. Remenber, these are the people who let us have the democracy we have, and to relate it to current events, we would have no black president-elect, yet alone elections at all. Thank you, veterans!
i think that is a great. the tribute to our veterans is very important. they fought to save this country and veterans day is a great way to show them thanks.
Every year on Veterans Day we have a special thing to do. My uncle is in the military so we allways call him to honor him serving for our country! We also have a dinner and say an extra prayer for the soldiers in Iraq and the other wars going on and the wars that are over.

Veteran's Day is so great because it shows America's and other militaries around the world that served in the world war or any wars, respect and appreciation, long after they died.
I Used to think it was just a day off, but know i realize whats going on in the wars and previous wars and how much a veteran does for their country.
If i had it my way i would have all of the verterans in one location and we would give them a speech about how thankful we are that they are or were serving our county.
I think that Veterans Day is a great way to show respect to the man an woman who gave up time and their lives for this country. To give and idea to show they gave lives is on november 8, 1965 when 1200 Vite Cong kill a lot of u.s. solders on option hump.
so veterans should have this day to them. GOD BLESS AMERICA
Just think about all they wars they went through and suffered, and this was all for us! Most people don't even ACKnowledge a veteran hero much less celebrate what they do for us. I hope that people all over the U.S. will do at least one thing nice for this coming Veteran's Day.
What I’ll remember most about decision 2008 is that for the first time in history an African- American has became president. This will stay with me forever; it seems to me everyone was involved in this election and the process of voting. This was something that everyone will remember; regardless if your party won or not. People have sat in lines for hours so they can vote; this year I think everyone took it seriously and got involved. I believe everyone felt part of this election this ear and that there vote really counted. This is something our younger siblings will read about in the years to come; they will be learning this later in history. The first black president, Barack Obama; and the first female to run for vice president Sarah Pallin. So despite the fact elect president Obama won this is history either way. I’m really happy with America’s decision. In my opinion I wanted a leader who can bring changes and is for “every class” not just focusing on a “certain class” but all. I think those who are upset should get over it; he’s our president now and they need to be positive and move forward; it’s not about race or being for a certain class but America.
I feel that this year election is never going to be forgotten. Americans wanted a change, also wanted to be apart the history books. I’ve watch this election for the past couple month, and I had no idea who was going to win. I’m still in shock how it turn out. Not just by Obama winning, but how people that went out to vote. McCain handle his lost very well. I just can’t wait to see what happen in 10 weeks.
I think Veteran's Day is really cool because at my school we have a band play and kids' uncles or grandfather get to come and be honored as well.
My grandfather is a veteran, and he recently passed away. My family and I pray for him and the rest of the veterans every year. If not for them, we wouldn't be living in the country we live in today, so we owe a debt of gratitude for the things they accomplished, and the country they helped mold.
i have alot of respect for veterians just about all of the men in my family took part in war. and for them to risk their lives for us like that is wonderful, you have to brave to take on a job like that and i solute them

Veterens Day means so much to so many people. We're honoring those who went out into war and could've gotten killed. They have done their part. They deserve a day for themselves.

I will always remember November 4th, 2008, because this is the first election that I have participated in since I came to the United State of America last year. I will always remember that this election is a historic election. An African American became not only the 1st Black President, but also one of the most influential men on earth. I have never dreamed of that before, something that I always thought impossible. I will always remember this is an inspiration for all human being, especially Black African.
U.S.A U.S.A U.S.A. So many historical events have happend on Veterans day. This is a very special time to honor all of those who served our country in World War 1and2 and Vietnam.

Veterans day is a great day in my house. We celebrate because my grandad was in war. So we bake cookies and tie them to balloons and let them off so for each cookie is a veteran that we lost.

Some people say veterans day is a reason for schools to be closed, but it's not. Veterans need a day to be honored for serving our country.
In past years, I`ve spent Veterans Day with my dad, he used to be in the Navy so we would go to Washington DC and went to museums and memorials.
Honoring Veterans is a nice thing to do. My family and me will be honoring my dad this year. I also say extra prayers for the men and women who served our country.
I've got some relatives, and friends of family that have served in the war so most likely I'll spend some time with them. My family never really does anything special, we basically just use it as another excuse to get together and have some BBQ. We do however at the same time recognize the signifigance of the holiday.
I think it is great for all of us to honor our veterans. They make so many sacrifices. My grandfather is a veteran and every year we spend time with him and thank him. (But we should do that every day, not just on Veterans Day!)

Hi, Carl. In my opinion I think veterans day is a very important holiday. I think it helps the troops know that we appreciate them, and know how much we love them. I mean think about it, their almost giving up their life for our protection. Now that's brave !

Every year my school has a Veterans Day celebration.We had one today.There was alot of veterans from different wars like WWII and the War Against Terror.Last year one came and broke down in tears.My school does so good with the celebrations.
It is awsome that we have a special day to honor and conmemorate all the veterans in this country, especialy those who have served in Iraq and have given they lives for us to be able to walk freely.

I have done recently at my school the Voice of Democracy. It is a contest when young teens enter to write about a topic on America. This year it was about 'How does the youth benefit from the sacrifice from the American Veterans' and when it comes down to it. They have sacrificed their family life, their liberties, and their dreams in order for us to have ours and for us to live the lives we want to. Thank you all!
I get scared when I think I would I have to go into the middle of gun fire and explosives, these people man up and do it to get the job done for us. We can't even say enough!!!WE have to honor and appreciate every single one!!!
I think Veterans Day is a special day for those fighting for our country, and we should give them our best. It's great that we are given the honor to honor them.
Honoring the veterans is an extremely important. For as much as they did for the country, they should all be treated with the best of respect by everyone else around them. If you ever see a veteran, make sure that you thank them with all of your heart too!
I think we should honor veterans day because it is showing that we care about the people who scarfieced their lives to keep this country safe. I also think that we should all send letters to the soliders in iraq so they can read how much we respect them and how much we honor them. Veterans Day is so important to me and my family. My unlce always has a party at Veterans Park in California to honor our military veterans. :] It's an honor to have our veterans fight for us.
On Veteran's Day, my teacher will have to stay at school grading papers while all his students have the day off. I don't think this is very fair for him, because he actually is a veteran. He should get the day off like the rest of us.
I really honor Veterans for what they did for our country. At our school we have Veterans come in and share their stories with us. I thank Veterans for what they did for me and my fellow Americans. We are in the process of sending care packages to the soldiers in Iraq and around the world.

Our soldiers have the toughest job imaginable. Making Veterans' Day a national holiday is the least our nation can do to honor them. Their bravery is beyond measure.
I think that we should all show the veterans our respect and thankfullness as much as we can. There is no way that we could have done all that they have done for the country without them. My family and i honor veterans on Veterans Day because it's a chance to say thank you to all the veterans who helped served our country. We appreciate what the veterans did for us because without them, we would not be living the life that we are now. So i say thanks to all veterans for going out there and doing what was right for our country.

I love Veterans Day. My dad served in the Navy and i know many people currently serving. i will show my respects by writing each of them a letter on how much i appreciated their service for our country. they are working hard for their country. they deserve a day to appreciate and pamper themselves.

Veteran's day is very important at my house. My mom's dad fought in world war II. So every year, we got his grave and plant flowers. We also do this for my dad's brother, that fought in a war. One of my cousins, that past away this year, we are planing on going to his grave, too.
At our school, we wrote in the Patriot's Pen essay competition, and the theme for this year was "Should America's Veterans Be Honored?" I enjoyed writing my essay, and even though I couldn't compete (it was too long), I still had a good time writing it. Our veterans are some of the best people on this planet. They deserve our respect.

on Veteran's Day people either have the day off of work and or school. It gives us time to think about the Veterans who lost thier life in the war for us. I had a friend who died in the war and every month my family goes out to the cemetery and visits his grave. we all appreciated what he tried to do for us.

I think that Veterans Day is a day that we should give thanks to the people that killed them selves from trying to protect our wonderful country. I am happy for being in this country because it’s a place were people can enjoy were they live and be proud of who they are and that they live on a wonderful country.
On Veterans Day I am most likely to sleep late and when i wake up i will probably watch TV but i will watch the history channel or the discovery channel because something about the history behind this holiday should be told and i want to hear it.
I would thank veterans by helping them with money or donate money because of the low wage of being a soldier especially soldiers with families .Also by giving the soldiers emotional help like with helping soldiers with the things that you see in warfare .But most of all not forgetting what they have done to help this country when most needed.
I have had an uncle in war before. It is one of the most soul-breaking experiences you could live through. Questions always run such as like…will he be okay? Is he hurt? Well I want to honor him tomorrow with my family by going to his house and have a small feast and give thanks to our Savior for keeping him alive to this present day. I also want to thank him for the having the courage to get up and fight for the country he believes in. For the country he thinks it’s worth dying for. I want to thank him for volunteering in the war when others weren’t as brave as he was, and because he just didn’t fight for the lives of other people, he fought for the change in my family’s lives too.
I will like to give a big thanks to all of the veterans which helped served our country. Also for being brave enough and risky there lives to protect our country. I know how it feels to have someone you love in the armfoces. Which keeps you thinking about are they going to come back safely ? So we should show respcect and gratefullness to all of those that go and represent our country.
The Veterans should that fought should be remembered and not forgotten. They fought for a long time and lots of the Veterans risked their lives to help our country and many were killed in fighting for the U.S
I would like to thank them by maybe collecting water and can food and send it to the military. Its interesting because I wonder what I would do if I was in the army or maybe even if I was actually in war. One of my favorite books is Night it talks about a boy who survived in Auschwitz and how he had to help his dad and one of my favorite movies is Shindlers List it is also about the prejudice people trying to eliminate the Jews.

I think we should all honor them. The veterans protected us and help us to become who we are today. I think that we should always have in mind that this people are also significant to our lives. I honor Veterans Day because it is an opportunity to thank all of the veterans that have risked their lives for us. From the the World War 1 war to the Iraq war going on right now. These soldiers are the bravest people I can think. They risk all of their lives just to save the lives of people they don't know, they have not heard of, and even people they hate so this is an important day.

Both my grandparents who were war vets died recently. I will spend my day remembering them.

I'd like to thank America's Veterens by celebrating with my grandpa. Living with one who tells all the stories is something I'd never change. Veterens day is a time I think all kids should sit down and ask their grandparents about that time in U.S. History.

I think Veterans Day is a great way to honor, respect, and remember our troops for being there for our country both now and in past wars.
Veterans day is a day where we honor soldiers and most of America knows that. At school we are having a asembily and most of us will be wearing red,white and blue to celibrate veterans day. I think it would be great to know the feeling that you are doing something good for the country. The meaning of veterans day to me though is a day where we thank the soldiers for doing what they think is right.

Man it's so sad I wish this wouldn't be so painful to all the families involed. All this crying at my aunt's house is making me feel all alone and it's creepy.
I think that veterains day is very inportant and that we need to think about all the soilders that are over in war, and the people that have died or severed in the army. In my school last year we studied about the civil war. I really injoyed learning about the war because it made me think more things about the people that are fighting in the war.

It's also a way to celebrate the ending of world war one. 11/11, at 11:00 is actually when the actual fighting between the allies and germany ended.

I think that sometimes people in my community neglect the importance of Veterans Day, so I am trying to show them that they should care more.

I have an uncle who is serving for the army in korea and i plan on calling him. Veterans day in one of the most important days.
I feel that how we honor the veterans is good. We show them that we care and that we are very glad that they served our country. They no that we care and that we are very happy to have them serving our country. I am really glad we have people like them in our country.
I'll probably end up spending my day talking with my grandpa for 3 hours after school. He was in the Koran war as a Marine, and I've always been an army brat. Or, in his case, a marine brat. I'll probably ask him about everything, though eventually, he'll fall asleep in his chair!
I only know 3 veterans and those people are my uncle Jeff, my cousin Matt, and a close family friend Dean. I'm glad the served this country.
There are many ways that people can celebrate Veterans day. My grandfather was in the service and every year on Veterans day we go to his grave and put flowers down and a small american flag. I'd like to say thanks to my grandpa Norm alwood hes the best.He faught in world war 2 . Also ti my grandpa kenny who faught in the Korean war. Hes pasted but thats ok. My cousin in Iraq and all the other people who are fighting their buts off for us. These people are better than the president...without them we would have no freedom....or evan know what that means.
I think that schools should set up programs to honor veterans. Teachers could get the address of a veterans' hospital. Then students would write messages of encouragement. It could really make their day. This would be a small way for teachers to allow students to honor veterans.
I would like to thank the veterans for having a country that I know I can walk outside and not look out for terrorist everywhere and hide from the people that are in our country. I would like to thank the veterans for being there and risking their lives to save the name The United States of America and know that we are free from any other country.
I can't do anything today because I have to go to school. I wish I could honor them but I don't know what to do. If I could do something I would and would be very honored to honor them. Maybe I will send a thank you note.
We all could just say thanks to them. My grandpa was in WW2. Now my step brother is in so it is really important to honor them. My brother is over in Iraq right now. So you could do any thing like saying thanks or just talking to them. So do what you can do to say thanks.
I'm very grateful for everything that the veterans have done. The only thing I can do to honor the veterans of America is to say, "Thanks!" And say I'm glad that you were willing to help America and me! Everyone has worked very hard to help us and I know everyone is thankful for you!!!
Today I really do not plan on doing anything to honor the veterans that have served. Although I have had a few veterens in my family. My great grandpa was fouteen and went in to world war 2. He died in like 1999. We will probably not do anything to honor him either.
This Veterans day i plan on honoring our veterans. For one I could go to my grandpas house and thank him for all he did for our country back in WW2. I could also send an appreciation card to a nursing home full of Veterans to honor and thank then for all their hard work. We could do many things to honor our United States Veterans.
I think that it is soo amazing that there are people out there willing to risk their lives for me and my country. Honestly, I would be wayyyy to afraid to do that. I mean, think about it. If someone was shooting at you non-stop and throwing bombs, would you stick through it? We can say that we would, but the truth is, not many of us would be able to do that.
To honor the veterans I learned about veterans day in school, and what the holiday is all about. We learned about the people that risk their lives every day for us, and that risked their lives years ago for our country. For the people that didn't make it out of the wars, thanking them by learning about this wonderful holiday. Although that is not much I just want to say thanks to all of the veterans.
I could do many things.Something that i could do is send them a note,care package, or something like that. I could honor them by maybe putting up a poster,making a play or something else like that.The veterans fought for us we have to honor them and thank them in some way. That is what i could do.
Even thought I don't know any veterans, I still support every veteran, that has served our country and many that has died for our country too. I think that we need to give more credit to those who have served our country, because I think that they don't get much credit for them fighting for our country. So I give a lot of support or our troops and I give a big thanks to them!

Veterans day is a very important day. The men and women who serve have served or will serve should be respected. I had for sure one relative how served and died serving in the navy. we should respect these people every day not just one day a year. Saying thank you one day a week isn't good enough of a thank you for what these people did. They put their lives on the line for our country not because they had to because they wanted to. They thought it was the right thing to do.
I think the holiday is a great honor for all of the people who served in the army. My great-grandfather served in the army so I have someone to thank for their service for this country. Hopefully I can go see him today even though I have a busy schedule, I will go and thank him. Maybe I can see if I have anymore veteran family today and thank them too. If it wasn't for veterans, we would possibly be under the control of another country, so veterans I salute you!!
I would like to thank them for serving for our country and all the stuff they are doing to keep the United States safe. I would honor the veterans by sending down a thank you gift. If I could see a veteran right now I would tell them thank you for supporting us and I hope that you are able to make it home for the holidays or whatever and I would actually honor each and every one of the veterans instead of just one like every year or so. SOme people don't take veterans day seriously the y take it as a dy off or a day to skip school and go have fun with the friends. That is how I would honor a friend
I think that Veterans are very important because they risk their lives to protect our country. They should get respect to them always if it is Veterans day or not. I have one person that I know of that are veterans and that is my Great grandpa Lloyd Crandall. I give thanks to him and all the Veterans in the united states.
i will try to thank them in a way but i don't know how. i will not possibly do nothing because i have nobody in it. but if i did have somebody then i would send a care package to them or maybe i will anyway i don't know. but maybe i will i don't have a veteran in my family but my half brothers does. they have a grandpa so maybe i can say thank you to him even though i have only seen him once or maybe twice. but i suppose that is not as important as this. so i will tell my half brothers to send something to their grandpa.
A way I would thank the Veterans is maybe send them a care package. I know one girl and one guy over in Iraq right now who told me they are really trying their hardest and soon they are going to be out of there and home. I will be sending them thank-you letters and care packages for Christmas as a Thank-you for fighting for our country.
I am going to serve our nations Veterans by putting up flags and go out every hour and light candles so the flags can shine in the light.
My uncle was a Veteran of World War 2 and he survived. Every Veteran's Day, we would take him out to dinner and a movie, or whatever he wanted to do. Sometimes, we would just sit and listen to his memories of the war. It was always a good day for him, because he would invite over old friends who lived in the area, and had been in the war with him. They would just talk about old times and the way things used to be. That was how we used to honor Veterans Day.
We should all honor vetrans even if we are not one or do not pay attention to that kind of "war stuff". These people are risking their lives in order to have what our country has today (ex. our rights-freedom of speech, privacy, and persuit of happiness) Show your appriciation to the ones that are their to help just to let them know we're there to help and support them throughout good times and bad:)

Its inportant to honoor them because most people think that old people cant do anything but this shows how important they are
I think that this is a good way to honor our Veterans. They are they ones who are risking their lives in wars and many other stuff. People should keep celebrating this holiday!
I feel that you should honor all people that have serviced in this country so is to help them feel better for the thing they saw. I have walk through cemeteries and looked at headstones. I have found a few headstone mark with WWI, WWII, Vietnam war, and the Korean war. I feel that all people in the United State should salute the veterans for the work they did for this country. We should hold these men to our hearts and make sure to tell them we thank you for what you did for us in the military and we will not forget what happen to you. Even when the days have got by as you get older and have a hard think with your memory. I will salute the Veterans of old and young to day for what they have done.
My dad was a veteran and same with my uncle and grandfather, the veterans who serve our country have done allot and i really thank the veterans and hope they come home soon! I also hope that America and make irac not to have a dictator and get peace.
My dad is fighting in Iraq and I will always admire and honor him, I feel we should always honor our veterans.
