Debates: Your Opinion
The primaries, conventions, and debates are all wrapped up. Millions of people have tuned in; millions of dollars have been spent. Millions of opinions have been voiced, and in just a few weeks, millions of ballots will be cast.
Sens. John McCain and Barack Obama have done their best to lay out their ideas, and they'll continue doing so in the days ahead. But for now, we want to hear yours. Whether you watched the candidates live, looked up info on your own, or heard the recaps on our show, we'd love to hear what you thought of the debates.

I think that Obama would be better. Personaly I don't think either of them should be the president, but if I must choose, i'm going to go with the guy who isn't very close to dieing. Plus, I think it is a good idea to put women into office, but I think that Palin has some issues, if you know what I mean.;)
In terms of public speaking, I thought Obama did better, but McCain woukd be the better president for our country. Obama is going against everything we have been sticking to, and i think it is not fair to raise tax for the rich so that he could lower the poor people's taxes. He is sticking to much to his "We Can Make Change" motto, it's just too much change.
I saw the debate and thought it was o.k. My opinion is that I really didn’t like it.
John Mccain has a good chance of winning. His debates are really good. His speeches are good hes doing a good job. I think he will be a good President.
I didn't like the debate... not at all. All I wanted was for two candidates to answer the question. Now I have to sit and wait to figure out what program are being cut, what changes in the education will happen.
I really enjoyed your segment on the debate today. Some people, me included, have difficulty following the candidates but CNN Student News does a great job simplifying the issues and showing us what the important topics were.

I thought the debates were helpful to both candidates. McCain was on the offensive and did what he needed to do to appear strong and not yet defeated. Obama, however, did not lose the debate because he remained calm, composed and presidential in the face of attacks.
i am upset with the debates, this year every debate has been the same, the same issues, the the same side stepping and not answering the question at hand and while this is expected from politicans i am at a loss of words how much this whole presidential debate process has turned me off of the election this year.
The chiauiau story today was great. It left me wondering what the cause of the ringing in his ears is. Keep those interesting stories in your segment, it keeps students focused on the the show.
I think this election is getting to almost be old even though I watch all the headlines about it. The debates are always something good to watch but are almost fake since neither McCain or Obama answer completely about questions having to do with the economy or a recovery plan. I wish they would get in depth just as if they were talking to their cabinet members about what they are actually going to do and not just what they are going to tell the American people. I think McCain is getting better at this by telling more details about his plans in the debate last night. Thank you.
I am more confused. I am underage to vote, but I hope that the winner or the election knows what to do and saves this country. I am worried about my future and so are another other people
Mccain had his strongest performance of the three with last night's debate, but it remains to be seen whether it will be enough to turn around the race. He came across better than in any previous debate in the first 30 minutes, for a rare time seeming more on top of his game than Obama. By the end though he had allowed himself to be sidetracked off-message and even appeared angry and condescending.
Both candidates have given their best and it will all come down to who wins the votes.
I think that the debates were the best time for me and my peers to really see the candidates viewpoints on the issues, such as health care, foreign affairs, and most importantly, the economic crisis. However I also think the debates helped the voters to really see the candidates demeanor, towards each other and towards the voters. Overall I'm very happy that I tuned in for the debates, because after seeing all four I feel that I am more informed about the election and what the future holds for our country. I think that either candidate is likely to lead America into a better situation.
The debates seem all the same to me, but it's really cool to see how they react to the other candidates plans.
i think that the debates are helpful to the voters who need to make that last decision of the candidate they stand with however, it seems that in the recent debates all they do is bring up past information and background "dirt" on each other and avoid the important questions at hand.
I think that up until this last debate, the candidates have been even in my mind. But now McCain is starting to be defensive and telling the American people lies about Obama's policies. Now, I am even looking more at how Palin is going to lead, once she is in office because of all these old people having health complications in the senate.
Barack Obama wants to spread the wealth around. But people like Joe the Plumber and myself would like to keep our money and be able to afford what we want. Increasing our taxes won't make me take a liking to him.
I think that the debate was mostly McCain and Obama were saying how the other is worse other than talking about themselves. Like how McCain was with the whole "terrorist" thing. He wouldn't let it go. And Oboma with the talk about McCain=George Bush. It is good for us to know, but we don't need half an hour talking about it.
We think that Mcain is just the same as George Bush, even though he said he wasn't. He will make the same mistakes as Bush did. Obama had strong points and he is the bomb!!! 🙂

I think the debate was funny Mcain was trying so hard to make Obama mess up and say something bad and Obama didn't which made Mcain even madder. Also bringing up the terrorist was childish which just shows that Mcain doesn't have anything good to talk about. Obama said that Mcain was just like Bush i agree with that. But when Mcain said if you wanted to run against Bush you should have run 4 years ago, i laughed out loud that was so stupid. Mcain is fishing. Obama all the way baby

I thought that Obama being friends with the terrorist is unusual.
McCain being compared to Bush could hurt him if people dislike Bush.
I think they both did well and had there ups and downs.
I think that the presidential candidates should not charge money to get in the debates but only do the debates in a state at a time in every state and that the debates shouldn't be so agressive.
I think what I heard on their show I thought the debate was REALLY intense. Well I hope the better one wins.
Both candidates I think answered the questions very well, but I think they should focus on other things other than the economy like the well fare of animals and trying to stop animal testing.

The presidential debate that had happened on October 15, 2008 seemed more interesting. I noticed that John McCain and Barack Obama were taking shots at each other. When there is more rivalry between the canadits, It gets way more interesting

I think Obama would be a better president than Mccain. Mccain's almost dieng and Sara Palin wouldn't make a very good president afeter he does die. She's against a lot of things, but at the same time it would be nice t have a woman as a president. If I could vote, I would vote for Obama beacuse he seems to be a better president.

what I think about the debates is that all the money that has been spent is that its worth it the same for all the ballots .I think OBAMA should win because he is overall smart to make the right choices when it comes to making all the laws and ways to fix the taxes and how money will be spent.
Obama has a good campain!Mccain doesn't really look or sound like he will make our national environment a good place to live in. Obama would be a great president!He is in the lead so far...on each debate he pretty much gets more votes for what he says.Ok so of course theres prop 8.Some people are not ok with there childern learing about gay marrige or lesbian marriage.Yes they should have the right to marry someone they love but we don't think little kids should know about it yet cause it would be really weird to start talking about it when they shouldn't know yet.

I say that because he has been true with his word from when the campioning started till now. McCain has twisted his own words from the start til now. I look at it like this... if Bush and McCain are friends then isnt it possible that bush can have a say in whats going on in our country. I thought that if Bush had messed up our country and is friends with McCain then why should McCain be president when we want a change.

McCain rocks. Obama doesn't know how to run a country. The economy comes first. I Think that Obama did better in the debates but I believe that McCain would be a better president. Obama has some good ideas and has stuck with his views for the most part but he is to naive. McCain has more experience. He is a war vet and knows how war works. We are currently in at time of war so i think he would be a better choice.
I thought both candidates did well and made some good points, but Obama did better because I personally believe his policies are better then McCain's. Furthermore, Obama simply presents himself better and comes off as a friendly and nice guy, though I wish he would support nuclear power and be against ethanol.
Overall this debate was pretty dull. It was obvious that the candidates are tired. Although I believe that this was one of McCain's better debates, Obama still hit home with his plans for our economy, foreign dependency, and taxes. These next few weeks will be quite interesting!
I Thought the debate was boring at first, but as it went on McCain got really nasty and mean with his jokes and evil smiles. I liked Obama policies and his attitude. He gave outlines and answers. McCain talked about some guy for the longest asking for a apology and still didnt answer the question.
I'm scared for our country if Obama wins. Do the math – Palin has more experience than he does! Do we want our inexperienced man/woman in the vice presidential position or completely in charge? McCain is truly the best to lead our country. (Plus, he doesn't laugh and smile insultingly during the debate when he disagrees with something Obama says!)

I think the debate went well but over all I think both of them are doing well. 🙂
Mccain needs to prove to us that he is not George W. Bush....if we pick Mccain then what would change? nothing. Mccain and Bush are exactly alike. Nothing is gonna change if we pick him. Obama has better ideas, hes strong and willing. He is all about change. Obama will make America a better place. we need help in the economy and such. What else will we work for if Mccain is picked, we will probally have to pay more taxes. Well i don't know about you but im telling my mom to vote for Obama. He will make history.
This was, by far, the best debate. Obama was the clear winner. He laid out his plans in detail and was very clear and concise. He maintained his composure when McCain went on the offensive and was able to offer rebuttals with no sign of defensiveness. McCain on the other hand was on the attack and very rarely made his ideas comprehensible. He jumped topics too frequently and showed clear signs of anger. Obama made his vision for his future presidency very clear. Based on these comments, I question the reasons behind why some of you are supporting McCain.
I not the type that get into thing like politics but right now all i hear is Go McCain and Obama suck but when i see a estimate of who is winning it Obama i just dont understand but i just hope who ever we get will make a better change

I watched the presidential debate last nught it disscused issues that I would really like a president to cover. I like presidential debates thre fun to watch.
I think that McCain is a better choice. Obama hasn't really done anythin in the senate or anywhere else. I think McCain and Obama kind of tied for the debate Obama makes alot of promises and I don't think he will be able to keep all of them if any. McCain has the experience. I don't think they should take people out of the Iraq war. When we start a job anywhere we should finish it. We are saving millions of people there and I think we should stay until we help them finish setting up there government.

i think Mcain made some good points but i still think Obama would be better for us VOTE NOW.
First, the question was on whether or not the debates were good. Not "let's beat up on the other candidate because mine's better." Stick to the topic. I believe that this third debate was not as good as the others. I believe that Sen. McCain won this one. But I also believe that Sen. Obama won the second. Good topics were also talked about in this debate. I believe that we have to keep hammering the candidates on the economy.
i think both of them are alright i guess i don't really have a favorite. I thought the fact about all of McCain's adds being negative.

I think this debate was the best of all of them because there was more interaction between Obama and McCain. The questions that were asked were really good, and both candidates did well. However, I think Obama won this debate, and is more qualified for president.

Senator Biden visited my town the day of the last debate. He emphatically said their first priority would be helping raise standard of living for the middle class. Socio-economic status is one thing I want raised for people in our country. It will take money, and I am willing to pay my fair share of taxes, but it will also take motivating people to move themselves up in their jobs and with education. I know Senator Obama will keep this high on his agenda. I want to see more Americans becoming part of the dream, to be able to stay in their homes, get pay raises, do all the things I was able to do once I got a good high school education, went on to college, got a modest paying job, but always having enough money in my pocket and now able to retire comfortably. My dad was a mill worker and all this was possible back in the 60's. Today I see too many poor people not reaching the dream. All the big ideas are fine, but it comes down helping the Amercian person have all the best opportunities.
My 5th period 11th grade U.S. History class believes that the candidates should be characters in the actual games fighting for their opportunity to be the next President of the United States.....McCain vs. Obama.
According to my observation i think Obama is totally gonna win! He has a lot to offer to our country!! He has a lot of Potential to run our country the way its suppose to be! It seems his trying his best to make a change to our society. I believe he is going to make a difference in our life's and the society. Silly, silly liberals! The focus of the interaction between Obama and Joe (or whoever) the plumber is the philosophy and message of Barak Obama and not the character of Joe. Liberals sure do like to try to smear the opposition but then cries foul when the like is done to them. Silly, silly liberals! Obama did not know the character of the person he was talking to (at the time). He only heard the situation of a man wanting to buy a business and how Obama's tax plan would hurt him. Obama said he wanted to SPREAD the WEALTH!! Listen to the clear message folks! That is the clear message that those who are unsure to vote for president should consider. Obama and silly socialist liberals have every right to their v iew, but don't be deceptive about it liberals. Say it proudly and unashamedly, so people can make a true and real evaluation. For the record, I am not voting for Joe to become plumber in chief, and I am sure as heck not voting for Obama as commander in chief!

Something I have always told my children. Nice is easy...anybody can do it. The bad thing about nice is that some people use it to get things from others. That is not a good criteria to use to choose a president. Rather, I would use qualities like experience, character, character associations, and values. Obama may win in the niceness area, but he falls short where it really counts. Just think deeper for yourself!

Right now in my school, all the eighth graders have to get with a partner who has opposite beliefs as you and debate current issues that are going on. I am debating the War in Iraq and now I'm just starting to realize how those canidates are feeling when they are having their debates. One of my closest friends is my debate partner and I come home from school mad at her because of our debating and I just can't understand why she believes what she does. I think that the presidential debates are a good thing because it lets the canidates tell the people of America what they believe in. However, the debates must be VERY stressful for the canidates because I'm only debating with a friend for my English class to hear, but John McCain and BaracK Obama are debating for the entire nation to hear! That must be incredibly stressful!!!

I personally like McCain and Palin better! McCain, in my opinion, would be the best president. He is working with all of the programs this country is running and making them better.
1. I think Obama is idiotic because if he were to take all of the soldiers out of Iraq all at one time, the country would panic. All of Hussien's followers would go back to their old ways and the country would be the same as it was before the United States stepped in. The people of Iraq would be terroized once again. The risks of another terroist attack would certainly be higher. If we were to act as McCain has planned, we would gradually take soldiers out of Iraq as needed. As Iraq's economy improved, we could take more soldiers out. Then their economy would not turn bad once all of the soldiers were out of Iraq as it would in Obama's plan.
2. Taxes. They would probably go up on a record high percentage if Obama were to become president. Poor people need money. I care about them, not enough to pay good money that my parents could use for retirement to them though. People who are suffering can help themselves: how? They can get a JOB! These comments do not apply to all unfortunate souls- some people have a work ethic, are not lazy, do not waste money, and actually TRY to support for themselves and their families rather than depending on the government. These people I AM willing to give money to,because I know they will not waste it on unesscessary items. That is all I am going to stress on that matter.
3. McCain's age has NOTHING to do with the election! He is in excellent health, and it has been proven that he will definitely live for the next 6-10 years. If he were to die from unnatural causes (car crash, etc.), Palin would be an excellent president. Although only a teenager, I am old fashioned. I have never liked the idea of having a woman as president, but if there were to be one, Palin would be the best person for the job.
McCain and Palin are the best people up for the job as President and Vice President. These 3 issues are few of many that people ponder over to decide who to vote for. McCain and Palin's answers are the best out there. Vote American: McCain and Palin.

I think that we need Obama for president. We had too many white presidents and we need a change! McCain for president is not really anything, it's just gonna be like another clone of Bush! (No hard feelings or prejudice to anyone).
well i dont know where to start...i have mixed emotions about everything...i personally like most of barack obamas views on things except abortion...i think that abortion is murder and its not giving the children a chance i mean who knows they may grow up to change the world...however he also wants to take the troops out of iraq and even thought i have family in iraq i believe that as americans we should help other countries in their time of need...i just hope whoever does become the next president can get us out of this slump george bush got us into! ps mccain cant really help hes a little stiff or old or not in the best health conditions considering he was tortured when he was surving our country
i think that obama should win because i think that he would help the untied states out of the crisi that the untied states is in.
The dibate this year really sucked! To get more out of the people they pionted the problems to eachother instead of how they will fix them in the futre or now. They blamed everything on Bush and never on the fact that at one point they did agee with him on his stuff. The same with the congress all they want is to see that the president get all the crap instead of the fact that they are the ones that make a majority vote. I hate our system today it needs to change!

I think John Mccain is going to win because he is going to lower our taxes while Obama is going to upper our taxes. Obama does not care about our health or does not care to give us more health care. John Mccain knows many of us need more health care to get well. so John is going to give us more healthcare. I think more healthcare is a good idea because there are less docters and dentists.John Mccain is a man of good advice and he cares about all the citizins of the United States of America. Obama Thinks it is a really good idea to upper our taxes and i don't agree with any of Obama's ideas about the citizins or our country.Obama wants to send more troops to fight our country and John mccain wants to send home our troops. I agree with Mccain to send home our troops because there are famliey's missing their family members and children who want their dad or mom home. I m sure they miss them. So like i said Go Mccain!
