Shoutout to Gerald!

If you've been watching our show since last year, you've probably seen the two times our producer, Gerald Smith, totally surprised me with bloopers reels.  Getting back at him on Friday's program was bittersweet:  sweet for the revenge I finally got and bitter for the fact that we'll miss him when he goes to NBA.com.

More than 95 percent of the shows we've broadcast for the last SIX YEARS were produced by Gerald.  And he's been the voice in my ear for almost the entire time I've been on the air.  I shouted out my thanks to him on Friday's program, but if you'd like to as well, here's the place to do it.

Carl Azuz, Anchor

Good luck to Gerald. We appreciate him keeping Carl on track all this time. Since you are going to NBA.com and my class has been loyal viewers how about hooking us up with tickets to a Bobcats game? Just kidding. I as a Current Events teacher appreciate everything you have done. We watch everyday in Spartanburg, SC.

Modeste wants to know whether or not Gerald died, even though the rest of us were paying attention and know Gerald simply got a job with NBA.com.

Please help Modeste out so that he isn't sad thinking that Gerald died in a tragic Shout Out Quiz accident. 😉

Are the puns leaving with Gerald?! 🙁 My class anticipates the end of the show for the fantastic puns, and we were disappointed when Mr. Azuz didn't have one today. We just want to make sure that Gerald didn't take the puns with him! Thanks.

carl, if there is anybody cornier than Mr.Smith, it would be jay leno. The jokes and highlight reels were great. Carl, don't consider anytime soon about trying out for the Atlanta Hawks. At comedian Carl Azuz. We love the show. It has made our homework list.

Honestly, I think Gereld has done a wonderful job with this program. His knowledge of news and what kids want to see in it is amazing. I enjoy going to Ms. Bells classes because we watch it every day and I get to learn new things. During the summer I know nothing about anything that goes on, but because of CNN Student News, I'm caught up with the world around me.
Thank you so much, and I personally love the puns. Carl pulls them off gracefully.

Gerald – What can I say, it seems like just last week I was down there, getting the behind the scenes CNN tour, and meeting the GREAT cast and crew you work with. I appreciate the opportunity I had that day, and BEST of LUCK to you in all your future endeavors. You will truely be missed at CNN, and Broad Creek Middle has you in our thoughts.

You can look on the bright side – You are getting away from Carl!!!

i think getting back him was not exactly called revenge but you are getting back at him for what he did. My opinion is let him be because you make me giggle at your bloopers so don't get back at him let him be your funny.

i really liked the stories that you had they were really great i liked how it talked about john mcain suspending his campaign but i didn't like the idea about the four day school week because i wouldn't want to go longer school days.

    September 25, 2008 at 10:16 am |
  50. ilee

i think that it is wonderful to have mondays off but it will be so hard to try to learn something in a four days time. i think that the students should start a group that raise money for there school so that their school can have money. t full up there buses and other suff.

    September 25, 2008 at 12:50 pm |
  51. Rheanna

I am an 8th grader from wyoming and I think that a 4 day school week is good because you have more time to do activities on the weekend.

    PLEASE PUT THIS ON CNN!
