NECC News

How's your summer going?  Mine's been pretty busy so far.  After we hosted students in our Leadership Unplugged: A CNN Experience program two weeks ago, I went on the road to San Antonio, Texas where the National Educational Computing Conference was held.  As a former educator, I really enjoy taking in all the latest in technology for the classroom.  And there was plenty of it, from new software that helps with grading and classroom management to podcasting and on demand video.   And our producer, Gerald Smith and I did a presentation on CNN Student News and how to use iReport in the classroom.

The educators we spoke with actively use some or all of these kinds of technology everyday. How are you using technology to help you learn?

Well, my school is in the final stages of implementing a plan to have a "smart board" in every classroom. It all started a couple years ago because the math department wrote a grant to obtain funding for the smart boards. Basically they are a projecter screen but can recognize when you "write" on them with a special pen. It allows you to have powerpoints or other computer-based presentations which you can write notes on like a whiteboard!

Why is it that it has been 3 years since Katrina, and the people in mIssissippi and Lo. are still taking hand outs. Why is it, they don't get a job and do something for them selfs. You don't here about the people in Ill., Mo., and the rest of the states that was flooded crying out for help. Some where there should be a stopping point for these people in the south.

hey john, LA are the initials for Louisiana. Our class room has the smart boards too and they really help me in the science and math departments. i'm much more of a visual learner. i can't really just imagine 2+2=4! i have to see it. and if the smart board just happens to be fun to write on and has internet then thats just a sacrifice i'm willing to take. FOR EDUCATION!!!!!

My summer is going pretty well. I'm just studying every Monday to Friday as I'm homschooled. So I don't really have a summer break or winter break. Everyday is a school and day and a holiday! 😀

I also look up stupid and random things on the internet and play video games.

I think it's cool they found worms on Mars. They should definitely keep making the rovers look for them.
