Baggy Pants: Trendy or Tacky?
Bet you could name about a dozen fashion trends you've seen over the years. For a while at my middle school, students would clip suspenders to their pants and wear them hanging down – it was like they were carrying around a seat harness. In high school, I had a pair of light green, pleated jeans that I wore about twice a week (no idea what I was thinking – they didn't match anything). And I remember seeing some dude walk in with a pair of full-leg, suede, horseback-riding chaps: After all, nothing says 'Wild West' like homeroom!
But the baggy pants look has been around for years; it was going strong when I was in high school. What do you think of it? Do you ever let your jeans slouch? And what do you think of the Atlanta school board decision to ban pants that are sagging?
I still wonder how many of these students know the actual background on how "sagging" started (look it up kids-prison!).
100% of my students say that some baggers do take it too far,
25% say that bagging violates our dress code, but again 100% say that it depends on how the dress code is interpreted on whether it violates it or not.
75% say that there should be some regulations.

I think that baggy pants are a distraction, in school and outside of school. I mean would boys like it if girls wore baggy pants?! Well they might not want us to. So I am glad the school board is doing something about that. "Do your pants hang low"

I think that it's a great idea that kids don't wear pants that are to big so that it shows there underwear.Also I think that kids should wear pants that are to tight for them because that could be bad for kids too.

When I polled the class, the class seemed to be split down the middle. Whereas some students felt it was an infringement on their personal choice, some felt it was a great idea. They didn't want to see student's underwear!

i think the story about the 5 year old boy should have not been holding a riffel in the first plastcee there should be a lwa i the states that no child whether with or with out a person with a licence should do that but im happy that the boy is a fast learner and im also happy no one got hurt!
I think that it wasn't right for Atlanta to completely outlaw baggy pants at the school, unless there was a specific dress code rule stating that wasn't ok. If people want to look stupid it should be their own decision. You shouldn't have to make rules so people look "respectful" or how you want to look. Yeah, there are some extreme cases when the person's pants are down to their ankles and that's not right but to completely take out baggy pants? That's a little too far in my opinion.
I think that baggy pants should not be allowed. The people in my school that have baggy pants are real trouble makers.
pants are pants as long as you ain't going naked then everybody will be ok! plus down south they did that but they still wear them like that! and if they keep on doing that they'll end up getting fined or something like that! so it doesn't really matter anyways evern if we had bags for clothes and if you wear is a different way people will end up criticize you so whats the huge deal anyways?
I don't think to much of it, I see it so much that I don't really even pay attention anymore. I don't mind it so much, but I don't like it when guy's pants are down by their knees, it just looks weird, they walk all funny. But if their pants aren't that far down and you can only see their boxers a little bit, it's not too bad, I just ignore that. But it does get a little out of hand if they're any lower than that. And to the second question, NO! I don't wear my pants down low, I don't think any girl does...
I don't think that they should have made it a rule to not wear really baggy pants. Personally i don't think they're that attractive but if the kids want to war them oh well if they wanna look like thugs they can ha. If the kids were showing their bootys i would understand, but most kids aren't that stupid, i hope. POWER TO THE BAGGY PANTS!
i think banning something like baggey pant is dumb. if they want to weat them, then let them. only take it way when ther underware is showing.
I dont think that they should be able to ban saggy pants. Some people dont have tons of money and they wear what they can. Yes they may be disgusting but some people cant help it. And its also just an opinion. They shouldnt have their underwear hanging out though. They should just wear a belt. I think that banning it is going a little far. People can wear what they want as long as its not indecent exposure. Just loosen up a little people!
Personally I'm not a big fan of the baggy pants, but it's the choice of the kids. Forcing them to dress a certain way is an infringement of their rights of expression. And the background on where they came from doesn't really matter now does it.
I think that saggy pants are disgusting! It's really dumb too. I mean, once you think about it, it's really stupid that someone would go out and buy a pair of pants that are 10 sizes too big for them! Also, it's not very appealing to see someone's butt hangin' out of their pants! It's a good idea that the Atlanta school board banned baggy pants.
I don't think baggy pants are that bad unless there super baggy. Banning baggy pants from school I think isn't a good Idea. You would make a lot of kids angry.

I think that baggy pants are not a problem.. I wear my pants baggy and so do all of my fiends. The only people that make something of it are the teachers. I think it shouldn't matter because its our right to wear them how we want.. Now if someone has there pants past the bottem of there butt then thats a problem. But if it's just a little bit then i don't think it should cause problems..

I think that baggy pants are nasty. If you can see a kids boxers that is way to low. Most guys want their boxers to show and some times dont relize that it is that low. You dont ever see a girl trying to show thier underwear.

Wow! I am all for banning baggy pants! Nobody needs to see their boxers. Its definatly not cool so why would they want to wear them so low anyway? They're disgusting and I wish that our school would do something about baggy pants too.

I think that baggy pants are just a style, so its not even that bad, but I do have to say some boys are going way over board by practically having they're pants hanging around they're ankles. Drake: I don't think the posts here are censored in order for a topic to be one-sided. When 25% of my class says that bagging violates the dress code, it means exactly that. All schools have rules against any kind of attire that may be either inappropiate, offensive, or distracting, which in the case of bagging, can be all three. Plus their is a safety issue.
baggy pants are so ugly and I wish that they did that in our school cause a lot of guys do that but NO girls do it and yet I dont think people should wear skin tight pants either so that should be a rule to.

unfortunately, I love baggy pants. they're a trend that lets everyone see my toned glutes and slammin boxers. everyone can see where i get MY boxers!!
it's great to be able to know where all my guy friends shop, and when i get a nice long look at their sagging jeans, i get to see what kind of personal style they have.

I think baggie pants are a little tacky. And i hate when guys and in some cases girls pull up their underwear and pull down their pants and walk around like a clown. that is a little weird. but other wise it is not that bad. and for the school to band baggie pants all together, i think that is a little drastic. if you want baggie pants out of your school then start handing out detentions. that will be a way to get stop the baggie pants with out having to make a law.
Pants are meant to be worn. Just as long as you WEAR THEM !!! It is just that the way you wear them may be innappropriate for SOME people. Me personally... I don't slouch my nickers. But what is wrong to one person is right to another. There is really alot of controversy. Just like the way that old teachers hike UP their pants. It is just a difference in age and pant hight... think about it...

I think baggy pants are ridiculous. Why would a responsible young man want to wear that. It makes them look like the prisoners they are emulating. The way they walk makes me sick to my stomach. We really need to introduce school uniforms to all levels. I think the Atlanta school board's decision to censure this behavior is in order and I hope they will enforce the law.
