Best Holiday Gift EVER

When I was a little kid, my friends and I focused on two big questions every December:  "What do you want for Christmas" and "What did you get for Christmas?"  We only hoped the answer to the second question would be the same as the first, never really knowing how blessed we were.

I don't think I still own a single toy I got for one of those childhood Christmases.  Heaven only knows what happened to my 10-speed bike or radio-controlled dune buggy or Omega Supreme, the biggest Transformer I'd ever laid eyes on.  That isn't the stuff that sticks.  The picture of my mom in front of the Christmas tree lasted a lot longer.  We can still read the thank you letters from some troops we sent care packages to.

Now I'm not gonna get all sappy on you, but I'd like to know what you think is the greatest holiday gift EVER.  Name something - large or small, expensive or free - that you think captures the true spirit of the season, regardless of what you celebrate.  And we may feature your comment on an upcoming broadcast of CNN Student News!

My 1A class has many responses:

Andy: Any gift I get from Santa
Hawkins: Spending it with mom and dad.
John: the families with troops fighting overseas to have them home.
    Erik: "I don't know"
Claire: anything you get from your family because it means something
Jenna: anything you get from younger siblings

(I reserve the right to edit the word "like" out when necessary)

Mr. Browder: besides all the family, my greatest gifts I received were "rock-em, sock em robots", Evil Knevil motorcycle toy, the G.I. Joe with the fuzzy beard I ended up shaving off with the pocket knife my grand pappy gave me.

One thing I did notice, when I left cookies and milk out for Santa, it was always strange that when my dad woke up, he had cookies and milk in his moustache.

I think the greatest gift of all is LOVE! Who doesn't want a new game console or a fancy bike or something, but it takes a true person to give love. Love your neighbors, your friends, your classmates, and especially your family. Now I'm not saying I wouldn't care for a new game system, but I would especially want love. Make sure to be nice to even your enemies, for you don't know, they might end up being your best friend in the future.

    Thanks...

My favorite Christmas gift I've ever received was a K'NEX rollercoaster I got when I was 9 because I really really wanted it all year so when I got I started building it right away.

I agree with Joseph. I think that love is the greatest gift of all because without love, you really wouldn’t have anything. I would rather spend Christmas with all the people I love, than alone with a bunch of new stuff. Christmas time is about celebration, joy, and love. So I agree with Joseph.

I can remember a lot of gifts I’ve received since I was born, but they’re not really what I remember during a holiday. Every Christmas we either go to England to see our family or they come to my house. My family together is like a circus, we have wild times together and that’s what I remember in a holiday. For Christmas we all sit by a huge table and we could sit there for forever because nothing ever gets awkward, it’s just a constant flow and we laugh so much our lungs hurt. I love the feeling of having my family close on Christmas and other holidays because they’re the best gift I’ve ever received

The greatest gift I ever received was going to San Francisco with my family a few years ago. We were a very happy and close family. We each loved each other very dearly. When we were in San Francisco we went into a movie shop where you could make a video where it look like you were riding in a sleigh, or flying in a magic carpet. My family and I decided to pretend to fly the Christmas sleigh; event though we knew that they were doing everything with a computer and camera, it was still fun to make a video like that with your family. And since we were altogether as a family on Christmas it made it even more special. I will always remember that video, because it was when my family was happy, and together. Now my parents are divorced and they fight a lot. That memory helps me overcome the new ones.

The greatest gift I ever got was an ipod. I can’t live without my ipod. It has all great songs, photos, and videos. I use it mostly everyday. I got it when I was about 11 years old. I love to listen to alternative music. I love alternative because it soothes me when I’m having ruff times or when I just want to jam out with my friends. When I go on long trips or in a car ride it’s a great time to listen to it. When you just want to relax and be calm it’s a great time to listen to your ipod. An ipod was the best gift ever!

The greatest gift of all is love, as I have said above. Many people have hard times they go through and some have no one to pick them up... Last year or the year before that, a nice gentleman got onto a bus and gave everyone on it an envelope, which he told them not to open it until he left... 20 dollars were inside and for some of those people on the bus, that was their Christmas. Some people on the bus might of got just what they wanted, enough money to get a toy for their kid... Lets try to give someone a gift that they want for you might get love... or even something you wanted...

    Merry Christmas!!!...

P.S. I did a type-o in the writing above...My teacher's name is MRS. Mayer, not Mr... Sorry Mrs. Mayer.
    Happy Holidays!!! Bye for now...

My favorite gift ever was when I got my Xbox. I liked the gift a lot but it meant more coming from my dad. My mom gets me a lot of expensive things but my dad is how you say…cheap. When I opened it I said to my mom thanks a lot, whose idea was it? She said dad and I laughed.

Even though those gifts are great for the holidays, thats a lot of money! a few hundred dollars might be okay, but over a thousand is just way too much. No wonder many women go for the jewelry or clothing.

I think the best holiday gift would be for it to be the holidays all the time because it is more fun to hang out with all of your relitives putting orniments on tree then too just get a present and thats it. also an object dosent last forever but family and freinds last a heak of alot longer. and i think you are ausom cral and youre joke at the end of cnn are so funny youre tons better than monica loid. I LOVE U CARL.

Last year's Christmas gift was the best one I've ever received. One day when I returned from school, in the family room there was a nice and big piano! My parents said that they wanted it to be secret, so they delivered it when my brother and I were at school. I was extremely surprised like I was " Oh my god!!!!" It was the most surprising thing ever happened to me and I played all day long on the day. I am really excited for this Christmas gift!

The best Christmas gift I’ve ever gotten would have to be my flat screen TV. My mom got it for me last year. I had a really small one before so she decided it was time for a change. I love my mom so much for getting this TV for me!

The greatest gift that I could get is probably a new phone. I don't have a phone yet, but I sure want one soon. Everybody I know and all my friends have cell phones. When I get one, I'm going to get a really good phone. Not some cheap, messed up one.

The greatest holiday gift ever for me would be to go on a trip with my family. When I say my family I mean all of my aunts, uncles, cousins, grandmas, my grandpa, my mom, my dad, my, brother , and my sister. I would be awesome if we could all go to Disney World or somewhere like that together. That way everyone would have someone to hang out with, and we would all also have a lot of fun all together. We would go on all of the rides, and have a great time. It would be like two gifts in one. A vacation to Disney World, and getting to have a great time with everyone in my family.

Hi, thanks for giving us something to talk about because I’m really bored. I’m having fun writing this, but at other times it gets boring in my journalism class. The only good part of this class is watching CNN student news in the beginning. I like it especially when you’re doing the report. Well, anyway the best gift I’ve ever got was just recently when I got Rock Band (a video game that lets you play a “fake” guitar and drum set) a few weeks ago. One day I was doing my math homework when all of a sudden my mom called me over into the kitchen to see my new sister’s jacket and asked if I wanted one. I said sure and walked towards the couch (where my home work was). As I reached it, I noticed a box on top of it. A few seconds later I realized it was Rock Band. Sorry, but I can’t tell you how it got there because I have to go do some other class work. Thanks for reading. Bye Carl!

P.S. I love those jokes you give at the end of each show! They are so funny!

I thinkit nice want you said that your moms picture means more to you than a present does because a present you'll lose one day but you'll never lose your mom or even your dad and you know what probaly your whole family, because family sticks but presents you grow out of it.
