Loyalty vs. Conviction

In Jerusalem, it's a question of sports loyalty versus personal conviction, with some fans of an Israeli soccer team rooting against some of the players on the team.  (You'll hear a few different viewpoints on this in Wednesday's show.)

What if something like this happened where you live?  Would it matter to you if your favorite team signed a player that said or did something you didn't agree with - or had different beliefs than you?  If so, how would you react?

I would not care if some one got on my favorite team with a different religion. They believe what they want to believe and I respect what people believe in.

Yes Mary is right. Even though there from a different religion dose not mean you have to hate them. I am christian and I do not hate muslems or people who worship gold or silver statues. If they do not seem to attack you don't attack them.

I agree, it isn't fair ,because it doesn't matter what belief you are at my school many of my friends have different beliefs than me and i dont care and if it happened to me i wouldn't say a thing, because it doesn't matter what belief, skin color, or whatever you are we're all the same we were born the same way.

its really sad that their doing things like that , honestly its not fair and sports have nothing to do with religion so its really kind of petty matter in a way

I've learned that you have to separate the person from the talent. I may like a certain artists music or a football player's skills on the field. But I never let that bleed into how i perceive that artist or player outside of his work field.

It mainly depends on how you view the situation or on what your opinions towards the player is.

No. This would not effect me. I would just let them be on the team. It wouldn't make me like them any less. Some other people might think differently then me. They might think it's rong but i would think it's fine.

I think it is ok they joined the team. Though they may be their enemy those boys should not be Jews personally enemy. Not all people believe in everything in their religion. The boy only wish to play football not hurt anybody. The boys would be useing the media to their advantage if they were. People need to look at their side. A side where everyone around them hates them. People need to stop and step in some elses shoes. A religion is a genral idea about something. You take that genral belief and fit it to you. Those boys are part od a religion that has people who dislike them. Usaully they dislike them back. Not all do, though. Thoses boys changed that part to fit them. They need to be open and look at the other side of thingd.

Israel has the right to protest, but just because they can does not mean they should shun a minority just because their religion is different from theirs.

II'm honestly fine with them signing up a player that I might not agree with. They pick new players because they think they will help the team win. It's their business about what they say and do. Sports should have players who just want to have fun no matter what team they're on.

No one should be treated differently for who they truly are. If you don't like the player on the team then that's your problem not theirs they shouldn't have to wake up everyday to impress you. And if that were to happen to me I wouldn't let it bother me it's life, it happens.

I don't like a player on my favorite team, but instead of hating on him I root for the team as a whole. I believe other people should act this way as well.

If my favorite team singed a player that did something I didn't agree with and they are still a good player I would still take them. I would just ignore what they said or did.

I don't think it is fair. It doesn't really matter what you think in the long run. You should just be happy for your team and support it every step of the way.

  15. Mary

I don't think rooting against a player on your favorite team because of their religious views is fair at all! If this happend where I live I would totally go against it! It shouldn't matter about the player's religious views on but how well they play in that sport.

While I do see and understand why the "fans" of the Israeli soccer team are upset, I disagree with how they conducted themselves. What they are doing is spreading hatred towards the two soccer players which I assume have worked very hard for this opportunity. They kind of remind me of my 5 year old cousin who refuses to talk to girls purely because they are girls and not boys.

    February 5, 2013 at 9:31 pm |
  17. Kait

I would still root for the team even if I had a problem with a few of the team members... in life, you come across people you don't like (for whatever reason) and you just have to deal with it.

I think that it is very unfair and that religion shouldn't matter when you are playing on a team sport.

    February 5, 2013 at 10:00 pm |
  19. Phillip

Religion doesn't matter to sports. Sports is only for fun and enjoying, so it's not fair to support the players who believes the same religion with me and not supporting the another players who is different with me.

    February 5, 2013 at 10:05 pm |
  20. Felicia

I don't think it's fair because it's like saying you are black and I'm white. No one should be treated like this. If they are good, then they should stay on the team. It's the only way the team can get better. If they are bad, they go. The people should give them a chance before chanting mean things about them when you don't know them that well.

As a soccer player and a soccer fan you should always be support every player on the team you can not like the player but you must never not support a player if they score be happy you can not like them but you must support them.

    February 5, 2013 at 10:10 pm |
  22. Emile

All soccer players have super loyal fans. Some players have not die hard fans I would not take that to hart, for Ex I will always support Messi but Ronaldo I do not really like.

I think it is sad that racism to that degree exists...I wouldn't care if someone on my team was from somewhere else or had different beliefs. If he or she is a good player, let them play on the team.

    February 5, 2013 at 10:17 pm |
  24. Catarina

I say deal with it, it's not the end of the world. I really wouldn't care, it's just a sport.

My favorite Basketball team has players that are of opposite beliefs than me. But it's all about performance so I still like the team.

    February 5, 2013 at 11:13 pm |
  28. Michaela

It would not matter to me if a favorite team of mine signed a player that said or did something I did not agree with. Or if his or her beliefs differed from mine. America is such a diverse country. I respect the athlete's beliefs and recognize they may or may not be the same as mine. I also am aware that a player may not do or say everything that I want to see or hear. I would not root against a single player. I would still cheer for my team as a whole.

I think that it is not fair;people shouldn't be against each other just because of who you are and what they believe in.WE must stand up for these people and make a change in the world.

    February 6, 2013 at 1:13 am |
  30. Jiho

Religions and beliefs doesn't matter in any way. Sports are supposed to be against racism and non-freedom. In a global age like these days, I wonder why they are specializing differences.

    February 6, 2013 at 2:55 am |
  31. Chris

Regardless of what a player does or has different beliefs than me, I would forgive him if he showed good play for my favorite team.

    February 6, 2013 at 4:17 am |
  32. Riya

I would be ok with that. The sport is about playing, and playing to win! I think the people need to realize how racist they are, and it might be very hurtful to the team players

    February 6, 2013 at 6:19 am |

I would say that they can still route for that team just not favor the different players. But it is really sad they are getting bullied because they are different. I wish those people who don't like the players would come to America so that way they can know what it is like to be different.

Why would you care? if they played excellent and have great skills, why not keep them on he team? It is just like them saying that I can't hang out wit my Morman and Hindi friends because I am a Christian.

It wouldn't matter to me if someone said something that I didn't agreed with, we are on the same team and I think that's all that matters. They can have different beliefs if they want its not like anyone would have to change what they believe in because of it, and even if they do have different beliefs dosen't mean they need to be treated different then any of the other players.

    February 6, 2013 at 8:52 am |

I thik that racism isn't worth a good team player. If they are good at what they do,than let them do it.

I think that people in Jeruselum should be more execpting of the Arab players if there good enough to play on the team then they will stay if they arent then they should go.

  45. Sarah

We don't need a repeat of World War II. We should respect people for their political or religious beliefs. As stated in the Declaration of Independence, all people are created equal. They should continue to be no matter what their status or beliefs.

    February 6, 2013 at 9:11 am |

    February 6, 2013 at 9:13 am |
  49. Brian

I don't think this isn't fair. Why would you be mad at someone on your team if there doing good ? just because they believe in something different ? that's just not right.

    February 6, 2013 at 9:14 am |
  50. Michelle

I don't think its right to hate on someone like that. We should forget what they have done and there religion because that doesn't define who they are as a person . We should focus on the good and how well they play and respect them.

    February 6, 2013 at 9:14 am |
  51. Elisa

I don't think that it's right to hate on on someone even if they did something you dislike. People should just forget about what they did. What ever they did doesn't explain them as a player and a person.

    February 6, 2013 at 9:15 am |
  52. Olivia

It's not fair to judge somebody, or dislike them for something that they believe or can't help. Of course if this person was harming other people, that would give us a reason to disagree with them, but if it's for something they like, why does it matter? If they're doing good on a sports team we shouldn't be concerned about what they do in there personal life.

    February 6, 2013 at 9:15 am |
  53. Sheniquia

I think this is not fair toward people who are good at the sport but if they are terrible then they shouldn't be allowed to play at all.

    February 6, 2013 at 9:15 am |
  54. Michael

If a team was to draft someone who didn't have the same beliefs as me or I wasn't fond of them I wouldn't be glad a first but I would get over it and move on.

    February 6, 2013 at 9:15 am |
  55. Chelsea

I don't think that it is fair, because the team worked hard on making them better. You shouldn't do anything to hurt that person, but i would try to help and make that person to be better.

    February 6, 2013 at 9:16 am |
  56. Christina

I would be very disappointed in the players that did something wrong, but I would also be disappointed in the fans. The fans shouldn't root against them, because they're still on their team. I wouldn't really matter to me because I don't really have a favorite team.

    February 6, 2013 at 9:17 am |
  57. Noah

If one of my sports teams did that, I wouldn't actually care per say, considering I don't have a say in what the team management does. Yes, I would be angry, but I would just suck it up and deal with it, and enjoy watching them play.

If they donot like what is going on then they can just stop watching the game. They have no reson to belive that the two players will harm them and they have no right to critize them.

  65. Camden

I would not care if they signed a player to my favorite team that did something I didn't agree with. It's just a game, and teams change all the time. It's only a game. Why do you have to be mad?

    February 6, 2013 at 9:57 am |

I don't think that it's fair for anyone to be discriminated against. All people are equal and should be treated in the same way. It is a sport and anybody should be able to play it.

I do not believe that it is fair. Just because I don't agree with something they said or did, does not mean they don't have the right to be signed to a sports team.

    February 6, 2013 at 10:13 am |
  74. Mitchell

In sports, I don't think it's about where or what the player came from, it is how they play and what they can do for the team.

    February 6, 2013 at 10:14 am |
  75. Daytona

I don't think this is fair at all. Just because someone is from a different walk of life, and has different religious than u, doesn't mean they can't participate in the same daily activities that we enjoy. Think of it as someone that is a Muslim coming to America, and we say they can't do the same things we do, it's not fair.

    February 6, 2013 at 10:14 am |
  76. Sunny

I don't think it is fair at all. The whole reason why the team would go against their supporters opinion, is because they want to have the best for their team. It's almost discrimination if you think about it.

    February 6, 2013 at 10:15 am |
  77. DJ

I think the people should focus on his performance in the sport, and not what he actually believes in. Everyone has their own opinion, even if it doesn't match with everyone else.

    February 6, 2013 at 10:15 am |
  78. Alexander

I wouldn't like that because it's not fair to the others. Also it wouldn't be good for a team, because they would be talked about at the interviews, and they wouldn't be the good team anymore because of one player.

    February 6, 2013 at 10:16 am |
  79. Miranda

Your race or religion should not affect the how you play. If your a good player and you can play well and fight for your team, you should have the right to stay on that team. You have your right to your independence and just because your different from everyone else doesn't mean you cant play as equally well.. Your team and your fans will respect you if your respect them.

    February 6, 2013 at 10:16 am |
  80. Alexa

I would not care if someone that i didn't like was on the team, If you are a true fan you should appreciate the team members.

    February 6, 2013 at 10:16 am |
  81. Gretel

i honestly don't think race or religion should matter. if someone wants to play a sport, they can play it its a public team, so anyone can join. its a team, and if they weren't muslim this wouldn't have happened, people are just being racist.

    February 6, 2013 at 10:16 am |
  82. Soupy

I personally don't watch many sports, other than the Ryder Cup for golf, but i do know that everyone is equal. I know it is difficult, and it may never happen but people need to understand that we are all the same. It doesn't matter if you are tall, short, white, black, skinny, fat, smart, dumb, rich, or poor. There is no freedom until we are equal, until we are all equal.

    February 6, 2013 at 10:17 am |

I think people should not be judged in the fact of a persons beliefs. But people could be judged if they use unfriendly sports man ship language.

    February 6, 2013 at 10:17 am |
  84. Samanthie

It's blatant racism, really. That's just like shaming someone because they have different beliefs than you or come from a different place. The world is made up of many different cultures now, and we need to accept that some people come from different regions or see things differently than us.

    February 6, 2013 at 10:18 am |
  85. Abby

Words and actions can be miss understood .If he/ she repeated it over and over again i would probably be mad but i think people can believe what ever they would like. But if someone committed a crime i would look down on them.

    February 6, 2013 at 10:18 am |
  86. Sarah

i don't think its fair. just because they follow a different religion or ethnic group doesn't mean they have to be treated the way they are and they shouldn't be judged. its a great example of injustice, which is what we don't want.

    February 6, 2013 at 10:19 am |
  87. Mikayla

I don't care about the lives or beliefs of the players on the teams I support. It is their choice and that doesn't effect how they play, so nobody should care about it. It's a big commotion about something that people don't need to know and shouldn't know.

    February 6, 2013 at 10:19 am |
  88. Aireanna

Personally i think that it is very unjust, and racist they cant choose their religion, well maybe you can t want to and you are structured to your religion, its not right for a team to judge their team mates, people are all people and we all have other same body structure and we all work the same, it dose NOT matter if they are "enemies" so i strongly disagree with this opinion

    February 6, 2013 at 10:20 am |
  89. Kayla

I don't think that's fair. Just because they are a different religion that doesn't mean they are different from other people. They were signed to the team because they are good soccer players. They were signed because that is whats best for the team. Not because they are different.

It doesn't matter what they believe in. If they are a good athlete, then it's an advantage for the team as a whole.

    February 6, 2013 at 11:11 am |
  96. Haven

If there was somebody that did something or said something on a team that I liked I would want them to give the person a try, because what if you where that player would you like people not likening you just because you said something?

    February 6, 2013 at 11:12 am |
  97. Sara

Just because you do not believe in the same things, doesn't mean that you have the right to hate them. People are people. How would you feel if you were them? You would probably wish that they would like you for who you are. Treating others the way you want to be treated is one of the first things you learn because it is so important, so you should never forget it.

    February 6, 2013 at 11:12 am |
  98. Justin

I don't think that it would be fair to me because they don't have the right to do that. And just because they are in the town we live in they don't have control of us. I would react in a mean way.

    February 6, 2013 at 11:12 am |
  99. Deagan

I think that everybody should be able to play on the same team without being discouraged.

    February 6, 2013 at 11:13 am |
  100. Chayne

If their was someone that had beliefs in one of my teams I really wouldn't care because they are trying to be nice and help our team. Plus if they ore good players you dont want to kick them off the team.

    February 6, 2013 at 11:13 am |
  101. Megan

I don't think that it is fair because there are always going to be those people that are from somewhere else and have different religious beliefs. You should respect anyone who is different and treat them like you would want to be treated.

    February 6, 2013 at 11:13 am |
  102. matt

i dont think that is right if the are good and make team why does it matter what religion. i believe it may have been racist ane should have been fined.

    February 6, 2013 at 11:14 am |
  103. Tayllor

I think it is unfair and we should all have equal rights and I would still watch

    February 6, 2013 at 11:14 am |
  104. Matthew

I would not be really happy but if the person was a help to the team you kinda have to exept them.

    February 6, 2013 at 11:14 am |
  105. Ryan

I would except people for who they are. No matter what religion, anybody can play ball.

    February 6, 2013 at 11:14 am |
  106. Julaire

I whould probably wouldnt react because they make good team as a whole even if a player said or did something i didn't agree with.

    February 6, 2013 at 11:14 am |
  107. Evan

i dont think that it is fair and the team should press charges on the people that are mad with other people that dont like there religion

    February 6, 2013 at 11:14 am |
  108. Emily

I think that if they believe in a different religion they should be treated the same way. Yet if they did something against you, or something that you didn't like you should have your own opinion about them and their personality.

    February 6, 2013 at 11:14 am |
  109. Joseph

I think that I would watch and that it would be fin if there was some one different.and just because if they are good players then they are good

    February 6, 2013 at 11:15 am |
  110. Abby

The same situation happened to Ray Lewis on the Ravens, no one really said anything about him until his team won the Super Bowl and everyone was saying he didn't deserve the ring because he murdered someone, correction, you don't really know if he did because he was accused of doing it.

    February 6, 2013 at 11:15 am |
  111. n

i think that they should not be able to play on that team because it is there team and they can do what they want

    February 6, 2013 at 11:15 am |
  112. Emily

I would be surprised if it happened we're I live. It really doesn't matter if they believe something it just matters if thier good at the sport.

    February 6, 2013 at 11:15 am |
  113. Adam

I think they should not care what anyone says and just keep playing their game who cares bout all dem haters

    February 6, 2013 at 11:15 am |
  114. Roy

I don't think it's fair and if it happened to me I would be mad and upset with the team

    February 6, 2013 at 11:15 am |
  115. Charley

I think that it doesn't matter what religion you are, you should still have equal rights to be able to play on any team if you get the chance. I would attend the game and be happy if they won or lost.

    February 6, 2013 at 11:15 am |
  116. Georgia

If someone joined a team I was already a part of who had different beliefs than me, I wouldn't care. They can believe anything they want. It does not affect me. People should not should not discriminate other people just based on beliefs or even in general.

    February 6, 2013 at 11:16 am |
  117. Nicole

I would react in a way everyone else would, although I may not agree actions later in life. Everyone deserves to play, no matter what, there will always be people to discriminate against one another. To discriminate only generates hate, where is the love?

    February 6, 2013 at 11:16 am |
  118. Caitlynn

I don't think it matters for two people to have different beliefs, but as long as they're a good athlete, that's what matters.

    February 6, 2013 at 11:16 am |
  119. Erik

It wouldn't be fair and I wouldn't know that player.

    February 6, 2013 at 11:17 am |
  120. Nicholaus

I would not care as long as they are good at playing.

    February 6, 2013 at 11:17 am |
  121. Shad

If my favorite team signed a player that I did not like I would not mind because we live in a free country,he has the right of free speech and religion. I would prefer that he was a good player.

    February 6, 2013 at 11:17 am |
  122. Jane

It would depend on what the person said or did. If the person committed a crime, I would not be happy with the person. If its something about religion, then i could care less about what the persons religion is. People are different and that what makes you unique.

    February 6, 2013 at 11:17 am |
  123. Jaytee

I think that these types of things shouldn't happen. If you like a team, you don't have to like every player. People who believe in different things shouldn't be discriminated for that. That's like you yelling at your friend because they like another team. Don't hate the player, hate the game.

    February 6, 2013 at 11:17 am |
  124. Natasha

You should not dislike somebody for their religion, but if you do not like somebody for what they did, you have the right to not like them.

    February 6, 2013 at 11:18 am |
  125. alicia

I don't think that it is right and to me it and it is unfair to the player.

    February 6, 2013 at 11:18 am |
  126. Victor

Its not right to discriminate people for their religious beliefs. If they did something you disagree with that's your opinion, you shouldn't treat anyone differently for religious beliefs, because everyone was created equal.

    February 6, 2013 at 11:18 am |
  127. Jesse

i think that its ok if they have different believes. but if they had done some thing bad then they shouldn't be able to be on the team.

    February 6, 2013 at 11:18 am |
  128. dade

i think its unfair that people are treating other people badly and that we should all just learn how to be nice to each other.

    February 6, 2013 at 11:19 am |
  129. Abigail

I would never discriminate because of religion or race. I think i should have the right to not like someone who did something against you or other people. You have your own opinion and no one can change that but it is not fair to be forced to like someone.

    February 6, 2013 at 11:19 am |
  130. Zack

people should not discriminate there other people because of there religion. They should only have beef with them if they did something wrong or against there religion then be mad or hate them.

    February 6, 2013 at 11:19 am |
  131. Gregory

Lets just be fair! No one needs to be mean or get hurt!

    February 6, 2013 at 11:20 am |
  132. Kevin

I would think that it's not fair, and if that happened to me I would say we live in a free country and you should be able to play on any team without being discouraged.

    February 6, 2013 at 11:21 am |
  133. Paityn

No it wouldn't matter to me, because i'm not just watching them for one player, i'm watching for the whole team.

    February 6, 2013 at 11:21 am |
  134. Devin

Well from what I've seen in the football (soccer) footage the banner was a basic form of racism this is also unrespectful to those two muzzlum and after what I realized the banner said this reminded me of the holocaust when they were treated like that...I'm glad those people with the banner were banned from the game.

    February 6, 2013 at 11:22 am |
  135. John

If some player joined the New England patriots that I did not like as long as they were playing well and helping out my the patriots I wouldn't care.

    February 6, 2013 at 11:37 am |
  136. Prameela

I don'really care what celebrities or athletics do, it' there lives why should I care.

    February 6, 2013 at 11:37 am |
  137. Becca

I wouldn't car as long as they are good

    February 6, 2013 at 11:38 am |
  138. Joey

If someone were to join a local team who has done something bad enough, I obviously wouldn't agree with it and wouldn't want to root for them. If that person killed or hurt a person, I wouldn't want them to represent my team. If a player has a different believe than me, I really don't care. "Whatever floats their boat."

    February 6, 2013 at 11:39 am |
  139. Ryan

I don't think that it would be right to root against someone just because of their religion, but I would find it reasonable to dislike someone for what they do, but you still should not root against them.

    February 6, 2013 at 11:41 am |
  140. Sam

That is just plain dumb. Its like saying the Miami Heat isnt good all because Le Bron James is black. Nobody should judge how somebody looks or what there beliefs are.

    February 6, 2013 at 11:46 am |
  141. Dallin

i think that they sholdent care if they are diffrent or have a diffent belif its okay i have lots of friends that dont have she same belife but we are relly good friends

    February 6, 2013 at 11:46 am |
  142. joey

i truly would not give a hoot cause for reals who cares as long as they play good.

    February 6, 2013 at 11:48 am |
  143. Noelle

I wouldn't care if someone i didn't like joined my favorite team. They still might be a good player and help my favorite team to win. How would you like it if you were that person who joined the team?

    February 6, 2013 at 11:55 am |
  144. Dimitri

If they're good enough, they should be able to play no matter what "beliefs" they hold.

    February 6, 2013 at 11:55 am |
  145. Destiny

I wouln't really care if one of my favorite teams signed a player I didn't like I would still like the team. I think that it is really stupid what the people in Jerusalem are doing just because they don't like the players that are on their favorite team. It is really stupid to hate the whole team just because of a team member. If I was the person that they signed on a team and everyone diliked me I would be so mad. I can't beleive that people can hate a team that has one or two people on it that they dislike. Its like okay we get it you hate that team for one or two people you don't need to turn it into anything big just dont wacth that team play.

    February 6, 2013 at 11:55 am |
  146. sintia

I dont think its fair i think they should stand up for them selves.

    February 6, 2013 at 11:56 am |
  147. Dillon

    I agree with Dimitri.

    February 6, 2013 at 11:56 am |
  148. Adriana(:

If someone i didnt like moved to one of my favorite teams i would still like the team, but i would just dislike the player because you just can't just hate the team because of just that one player

    February 6, 2013 at 11:56 am |
  149. Jenika

I dont think it fair because there just judging them and they dont even know them. Just because there a different religion it doesnt mean anything.

    February 6, 2013 at 11:56 am |
  150. Allison

If my fovorite team signed a player that i didnt like i wouldnt stop liking the team i just wouldnt care about that player. Although i do agree that if you dont appreciate or like somthing you should show your opinion but not in a rude or harsh way. Even if it is your favorite sports team.

    February 6, 2013 at 11:57 am |
  151. Bradon

If I dont like a team, and then dont like a player to a team then that would make more reason to dislike that team. But if you dont like they player but like the team, than its up to you to decide to forget the team or dont deal with it and move on.

    February 6, 2013 at 11:57 am |
  152. Alec

Many people don't have the same beliefs as my family and I do, but we aren't prejudiced against them for it. I wouldn't really care if a new member of my favorite team had a different belief than me, because all of the other players don't either. In fact, nobody in football has the same beliefs as I do. So does it really matter yo me? Not a bit!

    February 6, 2013 at 11:58 am |
  153. Alejandra

Well first of all i thinkl it's stupid. If you hate The Lakers just because you don't like Kobe Bryant is just plain dumb. Yeah, he might be a loser like everyone says but he is still a part of the team and he helps his team win. He may or may not be your favorite but he is still a part of The Lakers and they an awesome basket ball team!

    February 6, 2013 at 11:58 am |
  154. oscar

I would still support the team but I might hate the player in the team.

    February 6, 2013 at 11:59 am |
  155. Trevor

I think that it isn't fair that people should hate the team just because of its players ,and that it is'nt fair to hate anyone because of their race or religion.

    February 6, 2013 at 11:59 am |
  156. Estrella

I wouldnt care. I would support them. If they do something bad then oh well. Thats their problem not mine. :) But if they did something to emmbarese the team then i would get down crazy!!!!!

    February 6, 2013 at 11:59 am |
  157. Kenzie

It's totally different in the US. We are more open minded about things. . . . You probably couldn't gather a large enough group to protest against a member of a team.

    February 6, 2013 at 12:00 pm |
  158. Paxton

Well you cant hate a team just because you hate a certain player. You also cant hate a player because of their religion.

    February 6, 2013 at 12:00 pm |
  159. Lucia

i dont think it is fair for the other people and if it ever happened to me i will stand up for myself.

    February 6, 2013 at 12:00 pm |
  160. violeta

I will not say nothing. I will not be mad. If they are good at playing the sport i will not care. All i want is that team wins

    February 6, 2013 at 12:01 pm |
  161. Samantha

I think people should cheer what ever team wins. It's not fair if they only cheer for their team, they should be happy for the team that wins.

    February 6, 2013 at 12:27 pm |
  162. marquise

I wouldn't care, Because sports is all about business, the public can't tell a sports team, who to sign and who not to sign.
I would only judge the player, they should only worry about how he does on the team.

    February 6, 2013 at 12:29 pm |
  163. Janay

I don,t think that this is right i think that everyone should stick up for there rights

    February 6, 2013 at 12:29 pm |
  164. dominique

I think it shouldn't matter if the person did something wrong it only matters if he's a good player or not. Most people say a lot of things they don't mean. He deserves a second chance.

    February 6, 2013 at 12:31 pm |
  165. Jonathan

I don't have a favorite sports team. Yet, I would be very angry and upset if someone said something that was offensive. I would never root for a team with offensive words.

    February 6, 2013 at 12:31 pm |
  166. goldust

On my opinion it would depend on if whether a team said something offensive or racist.Because it rarely occurs, its difficult to show anger or sympathy for the player or team.Say if Tebow made a racial remark, people would be shocked and might want to blame the jets or more tebow.

    February 6, 2013 at 12:33 pm |
  167. Megan

I think you should respect other people's beliefs because it does not change how they play the game.

    February 6, 2013 at 12:39 pm |
  168. anthony is a beast

i woodnt care if they were a good person and if they were good at the sport it woodnt matter to me if they were a different religion

    February 6, 2013 at 12:40 pm |
  169. Tyler

I dont think its fair because you religion shouldnt change anything because its just your beliefs and the way you choose to live not the way others make you

    February 6, 2013 at 12:40 pm |
  170. jacob

the fact is if someone joined my team and had different beliefs i would not be bothered by it i say they leave them alone

    February 6, 2013 at 12:41 pm |
  171. Zac

I don't think it is fair. You should always cheer on a team because you like them no matter who is on that team. All they want to do is play soccer and forget about religion and politics.

    February 6, 2013 at 12:41 pm |
  172. jlaps

they always say keep your friends close and your enemies closer. this huge problem between the fans and the team is worthless. I like a lot of sports teams and even though they sometimes have players that i don't like and don't agree with there reasoning. If you really like a team then one or two players that you are against shouldn't matter to you. If these players are getting the job done they deserve to stay.

    February 6, 2013 at 12:41 pm |
  173. Emily

I think is terrible that there is still prejiduce like that in the world. I would only be upset if the person did not have morals, like Ray Lewis, and killed or hurt someone.

    February 6, 2013 at 12:42 pm |
  174. Trevor

All races and religions are equal and should be considered as such. We should not discriminate against somebody for their beliefs.

    February 6, 2013 at 12:42 pm |
  175. Mackenzie

If my favorite player of any team happened to do something extremely awful, then yes I would probably start dislike him or her. Although, everyone has the right to believe what they want. I wouldn't mind if they had a different religion or even said something that made my wrinkle my nose a little bit. It's all in what YOU believe is crossing the line and what is right to say, do, or think.

    February 6, 2013 at 12:42 pm |
  176. fabrizzio

I think that people should forgive and move on. you shouldn`t be forced to do something because of your belifes

    February 6, 2013 at 12:43 pm |
  177. Madison

It, personally, wouldn't matter to me if they put someone on the team that I didn't agree with. I would still like the team just maybe not the people

    February 6, 2013 at 12:43 pm |
  178. Matt

I think that people should be allowed to play the sport they love. There are obvious things not to do though (breaking the law, using vulgar language, etc.). If you do something that is obviously wrong or you break the rules then the league that you are playing in should decide your punishment.

    February 6, 2013 at 12:44 pm |
  179. Courtney

I think that they should not be racist like that, those players should have the right to play on the team without people saying those things. If something like that happened to my favorite team then I would accept it and be completely okay with the situation. The people who are being racist like that need to reevaluate there life and focus on how well they play soccer.

    February 6, 2013 at 12:45 pm |
  180. Rachaell

If someone on a team that i liked had done something bad or illegal i would have a problem, but it its due to religion i wouldn't have a problem. After all we have the right to have freedom of religion, but is it really free if we are being judged and segregated? I have no problem with someone having controversial views, it doesn't effect how they play the games or the rules of the game. We are all human, can we at least be treated like one and stop acting like little children.

    February 6, 2013 at 12:46 pm |
  181. Hannahh

I think it shouldn't matter what beliefs someone has , as long as they haven't committed a huge controversial crime.

    February 6, 2013 at 12:46 pm |
  182. Elsie

I think that these comments are very unfair, and if someone, who had different opinions or beliefs than me, joined a team that I liked, I would voice my opinion, but I wouldn't shout or yell insults at them like some of those people did. You have a right to voice your opinion, but some people take it too far.

    February 6, 2013 at 12:46 pm |
  183. carley

I dont think that this is fair. if i was on that team i wouldnt care what religion they were. just because they are a certain religion doesnt mean that they are bad people

    February 6, 2013 at 12:47 pm |
  184. Adrianna

It wouldn't affect me because its unfair to the new players and not everyone is the same. I also believe everyone should get a second chance in life.

    February 6, 2013 at 12:47 pm |
  185. Juli-Ann

I personally don't think it matters, because if you look past their religion and mistakes, they're still a fantastic player, and that's all that really matters, right?

    February 6, 2013 at 12:49 pm |
  186. Trevor

It doesn't matter what religion they are, I think they should be accepted to the team if they are good.

    February 6, 2013 at 12:51 pm |
  187. sammiepoo

i dont think it matters what peoples religon is and they are there to play soccer and thats all nothing

    February 6, 2013 at 12:52 pm |
  188. Sabrina

I wouldn't judge. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion. If that happen to me I would just ignore it and go on with my life. Every single person can't agree on one thing. People just have to accept that.

    February 6, 2013 at 1:23 pm |
  189. avery

i think that if you are a good fan you should support your team nomatter what.

    February 6, 2013 at 1:27 pm |
  190. Si

I think it is not fair to judge them on their beliefs and color, If they are good players they will help the team win and the school get trophies, if they are not they wont play. I'm not saying you can't have or share your opinion, but don't get to defencive, mad, and upset. Just think that if you were the one getting all the school fans to vote for the opposing team, what would you feel? If that were you would you want to be allowed to play? I would. And I'm sure you would too.

    February 6, 2013 at 1:28 pm |
  191. Mari

I would not like it. I would not like the idea of it because it is not fair that a person from the stands roots for someone in the team and not the whole team; it will hurt someone elses feelings.

    February 6, 2013 at 1:28 pm |
  192. Peyton

I think people should stop judging and grow up this is just like blacks vs whites.

    February 6, 2013 at 1:29 pm |
  193. Haylee

I think that I would be so mad. It is not fair and not loyal. You and your team are supposed to be as loyal as you can to each other. Teams are supposed to bond over time and become closer to everyone on the team. If it were me I would be infuriated and would stand up for myself. If I were the coach I would have a very strict talk with the team.

    February 6, 2013 at 1:29 pm |
  194. Tracey

I dont think its fair that the Jerusalems get judge that way because every one is created equaly and just because they are a differnt religion and have a different type of living.

    February 6, 2013 at 1:30 pm |
  195. Lexi

I think you should not hate some one on your teem because they belive in a different relgion. If they said something you dont like then tell them that you dont like what they said dont drag it all out.

    February 6, 2013 at 1:31 pm |
  196. Nicole

I do think this is unfair because it doesn't matter what your religion is it only matters about your team work and how good you play

    February 6, 2013 at 1:40 pm |
  197. Maddie

What is it with people, race, and religion these days. It's bad enough some people hate Jews and some people hate Muslims. But now this? Who cares about others religions! We are all the same even if we have different beliefs. No religion is "evil". Let the Muslim guys play! Discrimination ended years ago!!! Get your head out of the clouds of race and religion issues and come back to Earth, people! This is 2013, not 1954!!! :(

I wouldn't care if they were another religion as long they score goals I wouldn't care so in other words I would stand up for myself if that was me out there

    February 6, 2013 at 2:23 pm |
  199. Mari

It wouldn't matter to me because being a team is about playing fair and playing together. Everyone hold except each other for who they are and not there race.
    # things need to change, EVERYWHERE.

    February 6, 2013 at 2:28 pm |
  200. nicholas stokes

well I would stand up for myself but I'd think hey give the person a chance even though he/she had different beliefs than me they could be pretty good at playing that sport.

I don't think this is fair and if this happened to me i would stand up for my self

    February 6, 2013 at 2:54 pm |

It would bother me if they were doing some thing bad but it would not bother me if they had different beliefs people can believe any thing they want to.

    February 6, 2013 at 2:57 pm |
  203. Evan

Well i don't think it's fair but they had some problems back then with war so i could understand why they don't want muslims on there team

    February 6, 2013 at 2:58 pm |
  204. Olivia

No I don't think that it is right that is racist. :(

    February 6, 2013 at 3:00 pm |

I don't think it's fair that they are rooting against them them because every one deserves a chance.

I'm fan of the Carolina Panthers. They have a Muslim player on their team, and I am not a Muslim. However, I won't harass him or try to get others to harass him in any way. I think that it is silly and hateful if anyone would act that way.

    February 6, 2013 at 3:20 pm |
  207. Hannah

Yes it would bother me, because why should one person get the opportunity to do something, and still get away with being mean, i think the reaction would be a surprising situation for most people.

    February 6, 2013 at 3:25 pm |
  208. Liza

I think that it would be ok if a team signed a player that I didn't agree with. After all, it's their team.

    February 6, 2013 at 3:35 pm |
  209. Caden

If that ever happened to a team I like I would be fine with it because everyone should have freedom and pick whaterver teams they want and do what they want. Everyone should have as many rights as any other people.

    February 6, 2013 at 3:53 pm |
  210. Gianna

I don't think this is fair at all what if the people who were against this weren't allowed to be playing sport just because what they believe in?

    February 6, 2013 at 3:55 pm |
  211. Rachel

No it doesn't matter because people can have their own beliefs and make their own decision. Put yourself in the other persons shoes and see how they feel like with no one one cheering for them.

    February 6, 2013 at 4:09 pm |
  212. Ty'Keesha

I believe that everyone should have equal rights to join any team regardless of their beliefs, and if that happened to me I would stand up for my rights because everyone deserves equal rights.

  213. slake

i think it is dumb that they banned football fans from the games everyone has the right to attend them.it was team spirit. people in america do it and they dont get banned for a game.

    February 6, 2013 at 4:30 pm |
  214. rutta

I dont think that this is fair. if that was me i would be mad and say something and talk as a team . people are going to get mad and stare some thing big . Thats going to make a lot of teams dont like them .

    February 6, 2013 at 4:31 pm |
  215. Dean

I dont think that it is fair because people are able to root against any team player. Religon or convictions shouldnt matter to people even if a person is different.

    February 6, 2013 at 4:33 pm |
  216. mAry

i think that religion and belaifs arn't important, performance is. Saying you dont want someone on your team because they are Muslem is like saying that they cant be on the team because they have a different skin color. HELLO! does anyone not rememeber Abraham Lincons speech. Everone is equal no matter what.If this hapened to me i would be totally anoyed!

    February 6, 2013 at 4:33 pm |
  217. kyle

I wouldn't care if a diffrent race or religion joined my favorite team. The reason why is because i don't have anything against any race or religion. We're all basicly the same just with diffrent beliefs.

    February 6, 2013 at 4:34 pm |
  218. casiana

I think it doesn't matter. I wouldn't know them. I can't judge them. You can believe what ever you want. As long as you win those games, I am on your side. Freedom of religion is our 1st amendment in our constitution. We need to follow it.

    February 6, 2013 at 4:35 pm |
  219. waleel

It is not fair for the Isreali's to judge who can be on the team. It is more about the talent of the players and not their religious beliefs.

    February 6, 2013 at 4:37 pm |
  220. logan

I watch nascar most of the time but it depends on whats the problem if its religon to me it makes no difference at all but like rick hendrick signed Jeremy Mayflied to drive one of his cars after his controveresies that he had then i'll stop watching sports

    February 6, 2013 at 4:50 pm |
  221. chrissy

We are all different, so what if people don't dress like you, talk like you, or play like you. I would not care if someone joined my favorite team, as long as they played well, there is nothing to care about.

    February 6, 2013 at 4:52 pm |
  222. Sean

It does not matter if you believe in one thing differently from another! We have your own thoughts, race , opinions, etc. As long as they don't criticize others thoughts and they're o.k.! The only thing that matters is you act! PERIOD!

    February 6, 2013 at 4:57 pm |
  223. Madison

Beliefs are are your own.Now if it was steroids, that is understanding to be upset. I mean it's like saying ,"no color people on the field." This is NOT 19's slaves or something like that.

    February 6, 2013 at 5:05 pm |
  224. Sue

Certainly you can't have someone out of the soccer field just because he or she has different thoughts, race, face color. Everyone is different and so everyone is important. If all of the peoples in the world have same thoughts, face, face color, it would be totally CRAZY.

If Someone Signed With A Team That I Like And They Said/Did Something Wrong It Might Bother Me A Little. But As Long As They Are A Good Team Player No Matter What Sport It Is I Would Still Root For That Team No Matter What Religion/Bleifs That Player Might Have....

    February 6, 2013 at 5:40 pm |
  226. Amber

I think that no matter what color you have or what you belief's you have, were all human and we all need to be treated the same.. You may not be as strong as other people are. Or not as smart as anyone else. But you're a human being. And in that case were all the same. You don't judge a book by its title right? Then why judge a person by there belief's or color or anything. What if this man has anything a team could ask for? Your just gonna let him down? I'm in 6th grade and have my class I have to be in with everyone and I have no choice other then be in that class. Our class don't judge each other by color or beliefs? We might fight sometimes but were still all friends. You're who you are. And don't ever change for that. I hope he dosn't get put in. Because if they can't ecseppt who he is they don't deserve him.

  228. Alex

People shouldn't discriminate against others because of religion or skin color or anything. It's just unfair! You should look at someone for how they act and not how they look or their religion or anything on the outside.

    February 6, 2013 at 7:08 pm |

I'm also not that into sports...

    February 6, 2013 at 7:10 pm |
  230. Lexie

I just think it's wrong that anyone should have to deal with this. You believe in what you believe, and what anybody else believes in is not your business. We are all humans and we deserve to be treated like humans.

    February 6, 2013 at 7:10 pm |
  231. Ashley

I don't realy care if a player on a team said or did something I didn't like. As long as there good it shouldn't matter. Or in other words I don't care if they are Japanese ( No offense) and on my faveorite soccer team or if they are black (still no offense) as long as they can score a goal I like them. So i would stay loyal. I think that Yoram is rite. And there is no reason that those people have to be baned from the games. there is also no reason that the people are so mad they shoud be happy. Once again No Offense.

I wouldn't care unless it was bad like if they would hurt someone else. They can believe in what they want. who is any one else to judge them. Especially saying hurtful words to the person. People should keep their comments to them selves sometimes. They are doing their job so should you.

    February 6, 2013 at 8:23 pm |
  234. Pinaki

If I don't like a particular player on the team, I wouldn't worry too much as long as he/she helped support the team.

    February 6, 2013 at 8:29 pm |
  235. Joey

I don't think it would concern me if i was on a team (or just a fan) and my manager signed a player that was a different religion than the rest. We all have our beliefs and these people should not discriminate just because they think differently.

    February 6, 2013 at 8:31 pm |
  236. Nardos

War and bloodshed blinds people's eyes. Soon they will only see the enemy in everyone. I just have to ask one thing: Why can't we just enjoy a good game football without discriminating the religion of innocent members of the team? It is a sad thing when people take war onto one of the few places where discrimination should not exist. They should feel ashamed for ruining a good sport for others

    February 6, 2013 at 8:38 pm |
  237. Joseph

I think its not far and people should not have to deal with it. it the same thing as hate crimes and the fans should be punished for it.

    February 6, 2013 at 9:16 pm |
  238. Vicran

To me no one should have to go through with being judged anytime but they do and considering this is with adults it is just sad and shouldn't happen.

    February 6, 2013 at 9:18 pm |

I personally do not care. Your own beliefs is your own problem, we should all be tolerant.

I don't get why they are being so racist and angry about a few players that arn't gonna share thier beliefs. If they score for your team and help you then be happy they arn't against you.

    February 7, 2013 at 8:50 am |
  242. Engracia

We wouldn't punish someone for what their favourite colour was, would we? Why should we punish someone for their religious beliefs?

    February 7, 2013 at 9:07 am |
  243. Melody

I believe that no matter your religion, race, or color of skin, you should be treated fairly. If someone in one of my favorite hockey teams had different views than me, that would be ok, because they have the right to believe what pleases them ,so as do you and I. We should not judge others by their looks, but by their capability. If you are good at something and you like doing it than you shouldnt let anyone stop you and no good person should stop you because you are different from them. Yes, everyone judges, its part of human nature, but you should judge by the way a person treats you.

    I don't really care

    February 7, 2013 at 12:59 pm |

It shouldn't matter what a players personal beliefs are, the only thing that should be important is how they perform during the game.

    February 7, 2013 at 1:06 pm |
  246. Andrew

I wouldn't like that player but if the player was loyal to the team and didn't continue being disrespectful I would eventually accept the player as part of the team. The player deserves a chance

    February 7, 2013 at 1:07 pm |
  247. Arturo

Everyone has the right to do whatever please them. My thoughts wouldn't matter since they would keep doing it. Be upset that someone would do that since everyone should work together. Not to fight with each other. I wouldn't do anything. Just probably ignore it and still support my team.

    February 7, 2013 at 2:09 pm |
  248. Taylor

i would not be upset or angry or try and get them off. If they have different beliefs than i do so what you live with it on a daily basis. It's not like they will or do anything to you. It shouldn't matter your religion your gender or your skin color. if you don't like them to bad try and do your best to get along with them. just like the golden rule : treat others the way you would want them to treat you.

    February 7, 2013 at 4:53 pm |
  249. Madi

I think it's dumb people root against their fav team it actually is rude... I mean they try their hardest and give it their best effort.. And what happens.... They get rooted against

    February 7, 2013 at 6:48 pm |
  250. Allison

It is simply not fair. So what if people have different beliefs than you, this is no reason to insult somebody.

    February 7, 2013 at 6:58 pm |
  251. Nicole

To me it doesn't matter what they believe in, what they look like, or where they are from. Everyone should have the same rights just as any other person does. In this case play on the soccer league.

    February 7, 2013 at 9:19 pm |
  252. Logan

Bad judgment. Those sports fans are judging them because they are different. Those people should come to America to see what it is like to be different! But that is just so mean and cruel! Shame on those people

    February 8, 2013 at 9:34 am |
  253. Maddie

Why is it that Muslims and Jews can't get along. Neither religion did anything wrong, so I think this has to stop.

    February 8, 2013 at 9:55 am |
  254. Priscilla

I agree with the argument that race doesn't matter- it's been very clearly proven in almost every profession. But, even looking at this from a purely secular viewpoint, religion definitely shows a lot about your character. It is often ignored that many religions believe that it is their duty to kill all those who don't have the same beliefs as a matter of faith. That is part of why I am a Christian, because if you really look at all the religions out there, you'll find quite a few things make Christianity stand out- that we are the only religion whose God is loving and forgiving, not a judgmental tyrant, or a god that ignores us, and that while there is only one way to get into Christianity, anyone can get in at any point in their lives regardless of what they've done or what race they are! My apologies for going on so long with that, but my point is that religion really does matter, even though race doesn't. This isn't to say that I think that the players in question should be mistreated, but that I understand the Israeli's descent towards them. They may not play any differently, but the way they treat others and live their lives will be very different.
