I think that they should ask the people who are here illeagaly why they came. If they have a good reason they should be able to stay

i think that the people that immigrated should be able to stay here its not like they are causing harm. They have rights to.

How many illegal immigrants are involved in drug trafficking that are here illegally. How many escaped the law from the country they came from. How many are here and are involved in human trafficking.

Those that are here and are working, are not a danger to our country, who believe in the constitution, or are students brought here by their parents and are willing to take legal steps to become a citizen should be able to work toward citizenship.

I think that letting immigrants stay is the right thing to do and I experienced immigration

But they can lie about that you know. Make up some sob story and stay illegally. I do think they should be given another chance though. If they've been here long enough to outsmart the government they have the right to stay :)

The big thing to be worried about is if they are here to be a citizen or if they are just going to harm the economy.

      January 31, 2013 at 9:06 am |
    • Laura

Yeah, but I think everyone should have the same rights as other people.

I personally think that people should be allowed to immigrate to different places if they want to visit for a while or go to a landmark, although they should't be coming to live without a passport or legal documents. They can live there if they have the passport and the right to live there.

I feel that if an immigrant has been registered and wants to pursue a good career, then they shall be able to live freely in the United States. If they are escaping war torn countries and are good people than they should be able to prosper in our country. On the other hand, illegal immigrants that may have a criminal record should not be allowed in the United States because they might harm our country. Immigration is a big issue and it needs to be addressed as soon as possible.

    January 29, 2013 at 7:29 pm |
    • Minjoon

I agree with Kendall. He presented good arguments about why illegal immigrants get to stay.

America is the land of opportunity. We are descendants from immigrants with the exception of Native Americans. We wouldn't be here if it weren't for immigration. Might as well give people the chance to have a happy life. The golden rule is treat people the way you want to be treated.

    January 29, 2013 at 7:30 pm |
    • Maddie

Good point, Neal. Your absolutely correct. Way to go. :)

Immigration is a big issue that needs to be addressed right away. If immigrants are registered and don't have any criminal record than they should be allowed to live and prosper in our country. If they want to pursue a good career than they should be able to live in the United States. On the other hand, if they do have any criminal record than they should not be allowed to live in this country. Many people feel strongly about this topic and it needs to be dealt with immediately.

Immigration is a complex issue in American politics. I think one of the root causes of illegal immigration is the complex and expensive immigration system we currently have in place. The extensive paperwork and money that goes into becoming a citizen of the United States is turning people away from the legal path and making them take the illegal path, which seems cheaper and easier considering most illegal immigrants coming into the United States do not have very much money and therefore cannot afford the legal process. Most illegal immigrants tried to legally enter but were turned off by the work and resources that were needed.

I used to be an immigrant and it took thousands and thousand of dollars to get my residency. I believe that immigrants should earn their way by paying taxes and helping the country. These should be the people that get their citizenship and not just giving it for living in the country and relying on the government and the church to feed them. If the government makes a reform that is more strict on hiring immigrants, then more people will be poor in the nation. If they are sent back, they will come back because other countries aren't as advanced as we are and I have seen it happen many many times.

I think that this is a great law,It will give rights to migrants and also will help to improve economy but i also think the migrants who have any criminal record should be deport.

They came from Mexico for a better future. You can't take whatever they've come for away and send them back.

I think the immigration pardon is a good idea. My grandfather is an illegal immigrant, and while he has always been able to find a job, I think others that are not so lucky should be given the chance.

There is no need of improving anything in the borders since illegal immigrants will either way find another way to come the U.S.

    January 29, 2013 at 9:47 pm |

If they can get passed our border patrol, then they should be allowed to be a citizen.

I am aginst MOST of the imagration reform. It is basically amnisty. I think that we should let them get the ball rolling on getting green cards and such but not give them outright freedom. Please let me say for the record that I am a former illeagel imogrant and the rest of my family dosn't want amnisty.

I think people today tend to migrate from poor country to developing country for getting more comfortable living and more money. But, some of them are illegally because of don't allow by local government for not enough work for them. In my personal, the local government should check out all immigration people who are not eligible, and give them back to their home country

I think the illegal immigrants should be allowed to stay and become a citizen. All they want is to live in a wonderful free country called USA.

Illegal immigrants should be allowed to have an easy way to citizenship

    January 30, 2013 at 12:11 am |

I think its fair to give the undocumented residents a citizenship because they might have tried hard to get a green card but when all means failed they used illegal documents.

    January 30, 2013 at 1:11 am |
  23. Taewoong

In this issue, Denying immigration is unreasonable In the global age. Plus, especially for the undocumented immigrant -already have lived for a long time- , there is no one able to deprive of their life without permission only because of undocumented! Because the democracy always seek the human right and freedom in the first front.
Contrary to this point, in fact, There is also no one able to ignore native (original people from native indians to the white and the black) for only the immigrant's right. Most of native are concerned about losing their work place and afraid that their normal life are possible to be damaged by newcomers bringing new conflicting culture. In short, native is worrying about the change which can lead native life manner to be broken or sacrificed.
This is actually so complicated problem and this depends on the variables like immigrant's job or native's political value. But absolutely I can say
"if immigrant are a doctor or an professional engineer? They would be welcomed. But or not? I think they should accept the invisible discrimination by loyalist."

I wrote "this issue(in the first line of the first paragraph)" means both U.S immigration reform and some of opinions against the immigration(by Republicans and some of group in public :) My opinion relate to the article about current flow of immigration reform in the U.S

I don’t think the administration should allow everything to undocumented immigrants, but rather to make the standard more lenient that immigration can be available for the wider range of people. Because, of course, immigration needs qualification and the wiliness to respect the country’s law is also important, therefore iwe can't deal the undocumented same to the legally waiting people. But as they are so desirable for U.S. immigration for more chances, they should also be able to take the chance. And I think if they do this way, it is also same as giving merits to legal waiters, so it would be fair for the both.

I think refugees have to be an American resident because they have no shelter, nor food.

    January 30, 2013 at 5:57 am |

In my opinion it needs to be done legally and the people need to follow the rules.

Illegal immigrants should have the opportunity to become legal immigrants, with certain conditions.

    January 30, 2013 at 6:46 am |

I think the issue with immigration is that to many people are coming too much. Most don't even have passports. There should be a new law on immigration and how we can get people to have passports to come in our country

    January 30, 2013 at 7:10 am |
  29. Emily

well, I do suggest that immigrants should be able to come to U.S.A because I don't see just because it's not their country
that i'ts bad for them to stay here in United States.

    January 30, 2013 at 8:04 am |

I think the immigrants shuold sign the reform so they do not get deported

    January 30, 2013 at 8:08 am |
  32. Aundrea,

Personally, I don't like the proposal. My great grandmother and her family left Italy had to spend weeks on Ellis Island in order to be accepted, they had to provide paperwork on their birth and vaccinations. They had to work hard for their citizenship and I don't believe it is fair to just hand the current immigrants citizenship that are here ILLEGALLY. If they really want citizenship they need to follow the legal procedures properly.

    January 30, 2013 at 8:30 am |
  33. Andrew

America is the immigration center of the world and the country needs to shorten the process of becoming a citizen. My mother is an immigrant from Cuba and she remembers that is was not as long compared to today.

    January 30, 2013 at 8:31 am |
  34. Emile

Our family moved from the UK to here. We had no citizenship. Our family had a struggle but we did it. Now that there are thousands of them I think we should help them because know what they are going to do and it is not easy.

    January 30, 2013 at 8:32 am |
  35. Haenie

I think immigration should be supported by the US government, cause denying immigrants illegarly wouldn't actualy cure the problem, will it?

    January 30, 2013 at 8:38 am |
  36. Kyle

My opinion is that we need to throw them back across the border, where they are from; but if they was born here then they are fine.

    January 30, 2013 at 8:40 am |
  37. Evie Ann

I think that if you have lived in the United States for awhile and your permanent record is clean , you should be able to go to college in the United States ! If we keep on sending educated people back to their country we are losing great doctors, lawyers, etc.

I think that the unite state should make an immigration reform for those people that came here to work, or came for an education because if they letted all the others races and cultural come here. Well why not Hispanics, Latinos and other races.

  41. Kendall

I'm Biracial (Black & Puerto Rican) although i didn't need a green card to get to the U.S., i think that people should be givin the oppurtunity to get green cards, i'm saying all this to say, i don't think the process of citizenship should be that difficult.

    January 30, 2013 at 9:31 am |
  42. Yamilet

I think the United States should help people that have a dream and that wants to have and education.

    January 30, 2013 at 9:33 am |
  43. Maddie

I think this is ridiculous. The Pilgrims came to America without passports or anything and founded the USA. Why should that change now? Also, people might leave because they have to, for there own safety. This is getting ridiculous.

I think immigrants should live in America and have a right to be free like we are. They should live like Americans and treated with respect.

    January 30, 2013 at 9:52 am |

I think they should be able to come here . There is no law that says they can not come here

TO ME I THINK IMMIGATION IS OKAY BECAUSE IF YOU ARE NOT DOING ANY THING WRONG TO HURT THE COUNTRY.

    January 30, 2013 at 9:54 am |

I think immigration is a good thing because when other people immigrate they can experience more around the world.

    January 30, 2013 at 9:55 am |
  51. wendy

I think it would help the economy because there would be more people doing taxes. This would also help many students. but there maybe even more out of job if that happens.I think it would help many immagrants in distress.

I Think No Because This People Love These Games And Is The Only Way People entertain There Self.

    January 30, 2013 at 9:57 am |
  53. Tyler

I think we should have anyone here illegally go through the process to become legally living in the U.S. I don't think it would be fair to people who have to wait to get into the U.S. legally and legitimately, to just give illegal immigrants citizenship.

    January 30, 2013 at 9:57 am |
  54. jonathan

why are we only makeing illegale immagrants for mexico?is it because they immerate they immerate the most? why aren't we doning this for other immergrents from other contreis? if this goes into effect there will be no one liveing in mexico.

    January 30, 2013 at 9:58 am |
  55. Phoebe

I think before we handle the immigrates that have already gotten in, we should secure the border so no one else can sneak in. The longer we wait, the bigger the problem is going to get. That is because more and more immigrates will come in and the population of illegal immigrates will get–just that much more to do something with. I think they should be forgiven and become citizens, but still have illegal immigration their record.

    January 30, 2013 at 10:01 am |
  56. Abby

I think immigration was a good thing because now we all have relatives from all over the world and we are all unique in different ways from our heritage.

    January 30, 2013 at 10:23 am |
  57. Alee

I dont think its good to have immigration. People could come over with drugs or bombs. We should have more guards.

    January 30, 2013 at 10:25 am |
  58. Daniel

While illegal immigrants are not citizens of the United States, they're not really causing harm with their presence, I think the government should ease down on immigration laws and focus on more prominent issues in the country.

    January 30, 2013 at 10:25 am |

I believe that immigrants are welcome to come to America, but should not come illegally.

    January 30, 2013 at 10:28 am |
  60. elena

I think the new immigration laws to allow immigrants a chance to become American citizens is a bad idea because if they had to sneak across the border to get to America they probably did something to break the law.

    January 30, 2013 at 10:30 am |
  61. Sierra

I don't mind immigration but to much of it can become a problem. Lets say if people from another country came into the United States I think it would be fine if it was just a few. I could understand why people would want to immigrate over to the United States because we have freedom and and allow people to be whatever religion they want to be.

    January 30, 2013 at 10:39 am |
  62. Nathaniel

I think that the people that immagrate to the united states should have to go through the process to become a citzen so that it will be worth it to them. The reson they come to the united states is because they want to come to the gretest nation on earth, so they shouldn't be able to just walk in.

    January 30, 2013 at 10:51 am |
  63. Samantha

I think that they should allow more immigration, because we were kind of immigrants our selves when the English first came. They were looking for freedom, and a better life just like most immigrants now.

    January 30, 2013 at 10:58 am |
  64. Jere

I think immigrants will eventually get better jobs if they get the okay to get legalized. I think it would be better to leave it the way it is. So, thats why i dont feel that they should be legalized.

    January 30, 2013 at 11:13 am |
  65. Jana

As Rep. Blackburn said, why should we put the people who did the right thing on the backburner? They should have to wait like everyone else. But the laws are upheld, and reform is a necessity.

    January 30, 2013 at 11:13 am |
  66. sarah

I think if they want to have a good job and provide for their family they should be able to live in america freely. Also thats prabably why they came in the first plase. And if they have a dream they should follow it.

    January 30, 2013 at 11:16 am |
  67. sarah

I think if they want to have a good job and provide for their family they should be able to live in america freely. Also thats probably why they came in the first place. And if they have a dream they should follow it.

    January 30, 2013 at 11:18 am |
  68. Jesse

I think the illegal immigrants should have to go through a process to become legal. There are immigrants trying to become citizens the legal way, so it would be unfair to simply grant the illegals citizenship.

    January 30, 2013 at 11:18 am |
  69. brandon

i think that they should make them do the same thing that other people in Mexico are doing. because it really isn't fair to the others that are actually doing the process the correct way.

    January 30, 2013 at 11:20 am |
  70. Rachel

Honestly, I haven't made my decision on immigration. But every day I'm leaning more to Presdient Obama's plan. In consideration, I also think about immigrants who come to America to care for their families. Where will they go if they're banned?

    January 30, 2013 at 11:22 am |
  71. Annaliese

I personally don't think that you should have to be a citizen to live somewhere, though citizenship would have its advantages. As long as immigrants are checked for drugs, weapons, etc. at the border, you needn't worry. I guess my point is, if I wanted to, (and I wasn't a minor) I could travel to Paris and live in a hotel. And I can fly over the Mexico border, as long as I have my passport.

    January 30, 2013 at 11:24 am |
  72. Harold

It want be fair for the people going through the long legal process, if the illegal immigrants get a free pass to be a legal American Citizen.

    January 30, 2013 at 11:25 am |
  73. katelyn

I think people should be allowed to live in the united states without having to be citizen because I don't think people have to be told where they can or can't live.

    January 30, 2013 at 11:25 am |
  74. Matt

I think that it's no 'big' deal. Regardless of where they came from aslong as they are respective of the United States laws and obide by them.. I see no real good reason why they shouldn't be allowed to be a United States citizen considering it's a free country.

    January 30, 2013 at 11:25 am |
  75. Harrison

I think that immigrants should go through the immigration process the right way.

    January 30, 2013 at 11:26 am |
  76. ashley

I think that they should not be able to become a u.s. citizen, because there's tons of people in mexico trying to come to the u.s. legally. If they'd break the law to come over here, what makes you think they wouldn't break other laws in the u.s. we already give them a oppurtinity to become a u.s. citizen.I dont agree with rewarding criminals.

    January 30, 2013 at 11:26 am |
  77. Tyler

I have no problem with immigration, but I do believe that they should still have to go through the green card process. It's not fair to the people that already went through it.

    January 30, 2013 at 11:28 am |
  78. Mycah

I believe that immigration is a problem that should have less attention targeted at it and point it at getting our troops home and fixing our debt problem.

    January 30, 2013 at 11:28 am |
  79. Sara

Either way immigration goes I dont care. Right now all i wanna do is eat, not worry about illegal immigrants.

    January 30, 2013 at 11:31 am |
  80. Matt

Obama is just giving immagrints free pass into our country. More immagrints will just get into the country constantly an eventually we will be over crowed. We already have millions of people on welfare right now. We dont need another ten thousand more on welfare. If we cant even stabalize our of economy with the people we have then why are we letting hundreds of immagrents into our country with a free pass. When there have been tons of immagrints that have been waiting to get there green card an become a citizen

    January 30, 2013 at 11:33 am |
  81. shelby

I think the illegal immigrants should have to take the test to become a U.S. citizen just like all the other immigrants. I think we should give them green cards.

    January 30, 2013 at 11:36 am |
  82. James

Saying yes to immigration is like saying its okay to passport all they drugs that they try to. 40+% of americans are already on welfare and then they legalize immigration,so they can get better jobs. But they will get mad because taxs are so high, they will realize that the government will take care of them and they will get on welfare also. And then they will have to raise the dept sealing because they will need more money for green cards and the make them leagial.

    January 30, 2013 at 11:37 am |
  83. Monticello

People need to be accountable. To allow hundreds of thousands of People to enter a country and remain undocumented, paying no taxes, tying up hospitals and legal institutions is unfathomable.
It cannot be tolerated that citizens carry this burden another day.

    January 30, 2013 at 11:47 am |
  84. Paxton

I think anyone that is hard working should be allowed to come here and work. As long as they become a citizen while here.

    January 30, 2013 at 11:47 am |
  85. Adam

i think the american born immigrants should be able to live here but the illeagal immagrants should have to go through all the legal stuff.

    January 30, 2013 at 11:49 am |
  86. Bradon

We should not give illegal people immagrints citizenship because it will incourage other illegal imagrants to come sneek in here and that would basicly be rewarding them for sneeking in.

    January 30, 2013 at 11:50 am |
  87. Krysta

I think that people should be able to imigrate wherever they want and live there as long as they have a passport and legal documents.

I think that they should atleast be given a chance to become a citizen. They arent harming anyone.

I thick that they shoud be able to stay here if they came ligaly. But if they came in ilegaly than they should be kicked out of our coutry. But the ones that have come that are ligal should be able to go to school and join are amy why cant they help are country.

I think people from anywhere should be able to come here and have what everyone else has. They should have a house and a job.

  91. johnathen

I think that we should let them live here but thay should pay for the cittionship or alot more people will come just to become a cition for free there would be to many people and if we make them pay then we wont get bombarded with alot of people

    January 30, 2013 at 11:52 am |
  92. Sam

People who immagrate should be able to come to the US and be educated until they are old enough to understand what it means being a citizen in the US.

    January 30, 2013 at 11:53 am |
  93. Grant

I agree with obama completely on this issue because mabye if they are granted citizenship it will encourage imagrants to come in legaly and not illegaly. But this could also cause more ilegal imagration to increase greatly. I think the issue is very complex and it could be good or bad the major increase could get our country more money or the major increase in population could cause our country to go into dept as my family says just a one more mouth to feed.

    January 30, 2013 at 11:53 am |
  94. Allison

If illegal immigrants get automatic citizenship, it would encourage others to come into the country and think its okay. It would increase our population so much that it will make our economy worse, many citizens would not be able to find jobs because all of them would be taken. If they want to become citizens they should have to take a citizenship granting test or somthing.

I think that they should allow immigrints to become a citizin because we have freedom and lots of poeple cant buy things, like a house because there an immagrant. and they cant get what they need most of the time. so it think they should give immagrants a chance. Also because we can have our relatives from another country come in to America.

    January 30, 2013 at 11:54 am |
  97. Dallin

I think that it is not right to sneak in and that people who do that are wrong. If the president does this then it will encourage more to do what is wrong. Although i think that when someone born here illegally it was not there choice to be here, so they should be citizens. Those who traveled here should recieve the same punishment as of now.

    January 30, 2013 at 11:55 am |

I think immigrants should live in America and have a right to be free like we are. They should live like Americans are and

I think that it is great idea to have all imigrints become citizen because it would bring a new light to america with different cuturals and such. I think it would make a huge impact on the world.

I think that Obama is doing the right thing. I think that no matter how you got here you should be able to buy a house and go to school. It shouldn't matter who you are, everybody deserves freedom. We should allow immigrants to have rights just like everyone else. Immigrants should be able to go to school, get a great job, buy property, be able to vote, and have rights.

I think they should let immagrants stay, cause the reason they come to the United States is to look for a job and work, cause where they come from like Mexico, cause Mexico does not have really good jobs.

I think they should let more immigration, because who care if you have papers or not.Their are people that have gotten their papers ,but it took alot of years to get it.My sister is in another country and we're trying to get her papers, right now its 15 years.

    January 30, 2013 at 12:03 pm |
  111. chasity

I don't mind immigration but to much of it can become a problem. Lets say if people from another country came into the United States I think it would be fine if it was just a few. I could understand why people would want to immigrate over to the United States because we have freedom and and allow people to be whatever religion they want to be

    January 30, 2013 at 12:05 pm |

    January 30, 2013 at 12:05 pm |

I think that immigration is okay, because we have family all over the world and not all people are the same, and they should be allowed in certain places all over the world, we are also free citzens no matter who we are or what we look like.

    January 30, 2013 at 1:11 pm |
  122. Sarah

If they follow the law and don't break any rules, they should be able to stay here. If they help our country we should not send them away. If they break any law, they should be sent home for sure!

    January 30, 2013 at 1:12 pm |

They should be able to go wherever they want as long as they follow the laws.

    January 30, 2013 at 1:12 pm |
  124. Tim

I think they should be kicked out. they might bring unknown diseases to our country and cost our medical system money. If they are unregistered, our government doesn't know they're here, they can't make them pay taxes and they're taking the jobs of other legal American citizens.

    January 30, 2013 at 1:29 pm |
  125. Patrick

Illegal immigrants should be deported because they could break laws, cost us money, bring sickness into our country, or take our jobs.

I think it is good that if you're an immimgrant and you've lived here all your life that you could just stay. This would be good for very young people who didn't have a choice to come here but were brought by their parents.

    January 30, 2013 at 1:47 pm |
  129. elizebeth

I think that we shouldnt allow anymore immigrants that havent lived here for at least a few years to come but its good that the immigrants who have to be granted citisenship.

    January 30, 2013 at 2:12 pm |
  131. Jenny

What many people do not realize is that millions of children have come here only because their parents brought them here. They did not have a choice. The United States is the only home they know. Those children should be given a chance to have a better life. You cannot persecute someone for their parent's wrongdoing.

I think you should let them stay. Let them live there lives. Just as all of your ancestors did, as immigrants. Everyones ancestors came here as immigrants so that would have been like saying that we should have kicked your ancestors out of the country when they came.

I do not think that they should be granted citizenship so easily. It is not fair to the people that have been waiting on citizenship their whole life. Some people have been waiting years to be granted citizenship but because they haven't broken the law like illegal immigrants they won't become citizens.

    January 30, 2013 at 2:21 pm |

I do not think they should be aloud because it will cause our population to go up even more. Taxes will raise even more than it already is.

  138. Brett

I think they should have to leave the country and not be granted citizenship, they are here illegally. They should go through the process of getting a green card and be able to live here legally. The government shouldn't promote illegal immagration because then it will keep happeneing.

    January 30, 2013 at 2:23 pm |

I agree that the government shouldn't promote illegal immigration, but I don't think immediate deportation is the answer either.

I do not think it is fair that illegal immigrants do not have to pay taxes as apposed to those who do. Other than that, there is nothing wrong with them living here in the U.S.

    what is imigination?

    January 30, 2013 at 2:33 pm |
  147. Lauren

I think the immigration reform is a good idea, although I do think it is a bit unfair for people who have been here longer. If we don't get a reform, people are going to keep coming to the United States illegally and the government will arrest more people because they are not U.S. citizens and they don't have visas, and that wastes tax money, which won't help get the U.S. out of the the multi-trillion dollar debt it has. If the governemt reforms the laws, maybe it will encourage people who come to the U.S. from foreign countries to actually become legal instead wasting tax money in food stamps and other benefits that they can get the U.S. citizens usually don't get, or getting arrested.

I believe that we should allow immigrants to come to our nation. We are all just hoping to live a good life, and why can't we help each other do that? America was built on the principles that we welcome those who wish to join us- not deport them the second they cross the border.

I think that they should make the people who have immagrated that have a CLEAN record should stay. Especially the ones who have children that have children that were born in the United States. Because if the people have to be kicked out of the country, that means that millions of kids would have no parents in the country. Or it would be hard for the children to become immigrants in another country.

America has long had a problem with illegal immigration from Mexico. Just because some may have made it across illegally, doesn't mean that they should be granted citizenship when there are countless others attempting to come legally.

I believe other people should be able to enter America.America is a free country so other people want to live here so they can be free the danger in there's.. Being a imagrent in the United States or any where else. It should not effect your life style at all. The people who say they are not aloud in America are wrong. And its unfair to imagrents as well. I think that since Syria is having a civil war the people of that country should migrate to a different country if they please. I also think that if this war is this bad I would want my family to go to different country when if I would be considered an immigrant.

They should follow the correct LEGAL process to become a citizen. We'll become extremely overpopulated if we automatically give anyone citizenship when they touch U.S. soil, and that would also encourage way more immigration than we can handle.

    January 30, 2013 at 5:26 pm |

I think that there should be a limit to how many immigrants can come in at one time. There also should guards watching the border for illegal immigrants that try to come to the United States.

I strongly believe in the Immigration Reform plan because I believe Americans take for granted how many oppurtunities we get, so when someone from another country, who doesn't get as many chances as we do, comes in hope of pursuing their dreams, I think we should fully support them.

I think if people come to America as babies but arnt officially US citizens they should be able to stay because they spent there whole life here. If you came here on education you should also stay because what's the point in spending all the money to teach butthen to simply tell them to go away once they have a good knoledge that could help America's problems.

America is a place with many land "sites to see" and I think that they should be able to stay. Especially the ones who have been here longer. I mean its America!!! Who can't not love it here.

I feel like if someone is an illegal immigrant and they've been in America since their childhood then they shouldn't be deported, however if they just came over as an adult or young adult then it's not fair that they stay. People around the world still see America as 'freedom land' , so we shouldn't just out right limit immigrants. I think it wouldn't be fair if we just let illegal immigrants be citizens off the bat because there are people who are waiting to become citizens by the proper legalization process.

    January 30, 2013 at 8:33 pm |
  182. Colin

I think that the immigration reform could be good. The immigrants, who may not have a home or shelter to live in, can finally get a job to pay for that kind of stuff. The immigrants also could go anywhere freely without that worry " what would happen if i get caught?" But if you think about it where do all of the immigrants that live here get their food and needs besides from food stamps and et cetera?

    January 30, 2013 at 8:35 pm |

If the immigrents are helping us, then I believe they have a right to be a citizen. They are doing as much as citizens are doing now.

Many seem to forget that their ancestors were all immigrants when they came to America.America is actually a country that was build off of immigration. While many argue that it would not be fair to grant citizenship because there has been people waiting in the queue, i feel like the citizenship issue needs to be addressed so that the queue can be a lot shorter, but citizenship should not be granted without taking security measures. Many migrate to America to fulfill their American Dream and if it causes no harm I don't see anything wrong with it.

why tell people to not be citizens when we depend on them to do a lot of work. we also need to grow in population in order to have more government income and help with the debt. we also made this nation on most reason they come. you would hate to be told you came and have freedom and find out you can not. it is irony to stop them from coming

I believe that the immigrants that are already here should stay and no harm should come to them. They might have been smuggled over as a baby. HOW WERE THEY SUPPOSED TO KNOW! We need to strengthen our borders now so that it will be harder to sneak in to the states. There should be no violence involved at all during the entire process.

I believe that this issues should be handled carefully because making it easy to become legal can encourage more illegal immigrants, and it would not be fair to the people that have been waiting for citizenship.

I think that illegal immigrants should not be allowed to become citizens. When the government trys to stop illegal immigration by allowing illegals to become citizens it just encourages more illegals to come plus many off the illegals are willing to work for little and hard. In return, many Americans can not find a job because of that. If you are going to make illegal immigrants become citizens, the government should do a lottery and only the ones that win will go through the process to become citizens.. The others who did not win the lottery should go back to were they came from and get a green card to come into the U.S.A legally.

I think President Obama had a good point when he said that it's easy for the issue to turn into an us vs. them debate, but we have to remember that WE ourselves came from immigrants. If you are not true Native American blood, you are not truly American. Most of us came from immigrants ourselves, and why shouldn't we give the immigrants who are already here a chance?

I like the idea of the Immigration reform. So many people could not live here legally but love the United States just as much as you or I do! When it comes to whats morally right I think that the reform is a good thing. I still haven't decided on my political view.

I don't think immigration is bad. It is a great thing if you think about it. But I think that the people in our country who are illegally here are not causing any harm. But I think what most Americans are worried about are have terrorists from other countries. But other than that immigration is great for them so they can live in a free country!

People need to understand that those who follow the rules get rewarded. Those who don't follow rules need to wait for freedom. I agree that there needs to be a system to allow immigrants into the country; but what kind of vibe would we be giving off if we treat the legal immigrants the same as we treat the illegal immigrants? Cheaters don't win.

Obviously the immigrants want to be in America so bad they are willing to come illegally, so we should give them a chance to become a citizen. If they're successful, they should have some sort of punishment for coming illegally in the first place, so they aren't getting off the hook.

I think the illegal people could stay in they do the stuff they say they gotta do, and if they dont do the stuff they gotta do they cant do what they want to do unless the do the right stuff that they say that they need to do to stay in our country, and if they dont do the stuff they gotta do they gotta go back to their own country no matter if they want to stay here or go there because if they wanted to stay bad enought they should've done what they gotta do to stay in the place they want to be.

I think they should be aloud to come and live here. But if they don't follow the requirements then thats when they should have to go back. But as long as they follow the requirements then it shouldn't matter.

Though the illegal immigrants will be taking some of our jobs in America, I believe that if they stayed here for the majority of their life they're practically an American already. And some of these illegal immigrants have been truely contributing to our country. I sincerely hope the Dream Act gets passed.

I think that if the immigrants give a good reason for coming to this country, then they should be able to stay. Especially if they want to get a good education through high school or college. I don't think that they mean any harm by coming here, they are just looking for a better life. And some of them don't know any better because maybe one of their relatives have done the same.

I think illegal immigrants that come to the United States should not be illegal in the first place. Immigrants should have easier access to citizenship so they can actually have the opportunity that citizens do, and so they can pay taxes.

I think that illegal immigrants should be either sent back to their own country or be forced to participate in the military. They can apply for a visia like everyone else does instead of sneeking in. This isn't fair to the people who went through the process to come here legaly. Those people need to be dealt with in a timely and orderly manner. If nothing is done, this process can continue to get worse.

I think immigration is a good think, sometimes even when it's illegal, because the U.S. sells itself as the open great country of opportunities. I went through the normal and legal visa process and I'm fine. People who are here illegal should at least get an opportunity to get a legal visa and live a life here!!!

Even the earliest "Americans" were immigrants. In fact, everyone in America is a descendant of an immigrant, or immigrated at one point to the US. I don't see the difference.

while others have to go through extensive steps to become a citizen.

My family and I have been in the U.S. for about 9 years now (legally) trying to apply for a green card. We spent thousands of dollars each year applying for it (Lawyer, paper work, work authorization, etc.). Am I now being told that people who are here illegally will be able to have an easier path to citizenship? I don't think its fair. I don't want illegal immigrants to be deported, I want them to be able to live here freely, I really do! But I don't think it's fair for those who have spent years of their life and hard work ( my dad had to work two jobs, and he only got about 6 hours of sleep each day, sometimes less, sometimes more, no days off so we could pay our bills and immigration stuff ) trying to get into the U.S. Legally and trying to apply for a Green Card.
By the way, just to give you an example of how hard it is for immigrants (legal and illegal): My family has to apply for a Work Authorization card to work every few years, and the card has to be valid for you to work and to be able to drive with a valid License. When it expires, you get fired from work and your drivers license expires. So no income or way of transportation. That's pretty scary. When it expires, you have to apply for another Work permit.Did I mention how much money it costs to do that? AND how much paper work and running around there is? A whole lot of it. But it's a harder life for illegal immigrants because they can't apply for a Permit or they get caught and deported back to their country.
(This isn't really part of my argument I just wanted those who didn't know to know)

In my view, those immigrants should find ways to be legal citizens. There are many ways to do so, but it takes time. Or else half of the world will be American...
