No New Names at the Hall of Fame

It's not the first year in baseball history when no one was elected to the Hall of Fame.  But what is unique this time around is that some of the players who were eligible have also been accused of having used performance-enhancing drugs.  And that could be the reason why they didn't get enough votes this time around.

How do you feel about the way this was handled?  Do you think accused players should be voted in anyway, that they should not have the chance, or that there's some other way to address the issue?

It feels like Basketball has it's own little way of doing things like a mini law system, i still feel that the players should at least be able to vote and be voted on for they all work hard drugs or not.

I don't think performance-enhancing drugs should be tolerated in athletics. athletes who use should not be eligible because they have had an advantage and cheated.

I agree completely. Performance enhancing drugs in competitive sports are a definite game changer and using them to gain an edge is cheating plain and simple and cheating should always mean disqualification.

Accusing some one does not exactly mean that your positive about something. I think that they should add them in until they figure out if they were doing the drugs or not, that way if there is some one that did not use them, they still get a chance to be in the hall of fame.

One bad apple ruins the bunch, so I don't think anyone should be voted for the Hall of Fame.

But Barry Bonds has Major league HR record. And I heard that he was a supreme player before he did use a the Streroid. And despite the drug using candidates, what about the other candidates? They could think that they are undeserved.

I think that the decision was fair, because if the allegations against the player's haven't been disproven, the Hall of Fame should NOT accept them. Besides, if they didn't get enough votes, it's part of the process. It's not fair to break the rules just to include people. However, if the players are cleared of all charges, they should be accepted into the Hall of Fame if they get enough votes.

Even though I don't like the fact that some used drug to enhance their performance, there were some people who were definitely worthy of the hall of fame. Take Miguel Cabrera for instance. Triple Crown Winner! When is the last time that happened, 45 years?

I totally agree with you. Anyone who achieves something by unfairness or cheating should not be in the hall of fame.

Seems like a lot of people are being more suspicious of performance-enchancing drugs after what they found out about Lance Armstrong.

I agree, Jordan. Just because one person did it, doesn't mean we should suspect all sports stars. Next thing you know, they'll be suspecting legends like Michael Jordan.

I think that the players who did use the sterroids to boost up there votes were just not thinking of the consequences but went and did them anyway, and the votes i think were fair because the players did do sterroids and did not think about the voters and how it would effect the players themselves.

I feel that the people over-reacted because the were ACCUSED not proven that they used those health enhancment drugs and stuff. I think that the players should be still counted and other stuff

I think that it showed people that performance-enhancing drugs are wrong. People who use performance-enhancing drugs should not be rewarded for cheating. Somone who did not use performance-enhancing drugs should have been elected.

I think players using performance enhancing drugs should not be given any award because players who didn't use the illegal drug doesn't get anything and I think that is unfair

I think those accused deserve not to be nominated..It is sad, but I think using drug is violating the spirit of clean and fair sports. It won't be fair if someone used drug to enhance their performance and they are nominated in the Hall of Fame.

I think what the voters did was right because the players should not have used performance-enhancing drugs. They should have used their own skills to win the game.

I don't think they should have decided this so late. They should've drug tested them, before starting to allow players to enter the Hall of Fame. The suspicions of drug use shouldn't come up, because they should drug test all players with a chance entering the Hall of Fame.

People who have been found guilty of using performance enhancing drugs should not be allowed to be on the ballot for the hall of fame. But the ones who were not convicted should be allowed because they haven't been found guilty.

I think this is completely unfair. Nobody knows if the accused players ate performance-enhacing drugs. To be fair, I think they should be voted unless people found out good evidences to support that they ate drugs.

I think that the baseball players of today are a sad contrast to the true baseball heroes of years gone past. They never trust that they can do their best if they try hard enough. People need to trust that they don't need drugs to make themselves true heroes.

  34. Liese

I think that the players should get the chance to be in the hall of fame, because it's written right in our own constitution, you are innocent until proven guilty. Only if it has been proven that these players are using drugs should they be denied their opportunity.

    January 10, 2013 at 10:07 am |
  35. Katelyn

I think that just because the baseball players are being accused of doing illegal drugs doesn't mean it's true. If the baseball players are really doing illegal drugs, then I agree with not voting, but if there is no way of proving that they are I would just vote for whoever you would have and not think about them doing illegal drugs.

I think that it is weird that there is no players this year. There should be least be one player because you probaly do not know if they did do the drugs and all.

  37. Violet

I don't think that all the baseball players eligible for being excepted into the coopers hall of fame really did do it, but still they shouldn't use medication to get in thereafter all.

    January 10, 2013 at 10:29 am |
  38. Ryan

Players accused of having used PEDs should be in the Hall of Fame. Many of those who are assumed of having used PED's have never been found guilty or admitted it. The "steroid era" is a part of baseball history and Hall of Fame players during this era should be recognized in some way in the Hall of Fame.

    January 10, 2013 at 10:49 am |
  39. Maddie

I don't like that no new players were added to the Baseball Hall of Fame. Ever since Lance Armstrong was caught doping, the government's been worried about all sports stars. One of these men deserve to be in the Hall of Fame. And if anyone deserves it, it's Joey Votto. Go Reds!

    January 10, 2013 at 10:55 am |
  40. Jana

I think that it was handled well. They used performance enhancing drugs that altered the way that they would normally play. I don't think that they should be able to be inducted because they didn't have the natural talent that it takes to be in the Hall of Fame.

    January 10, 2013 at 11:20 am |
  41. Kaeley

I dont think its fair that players that use steroids have elligibility to be in the Hall of Fame with players with natural-born talent. I think in order to be elligible, they must be drug-tested and proven to not have any use of performance anhancers. Because if someone on steroids was in the Hall of Fame and someone drug-free with the same talent wasnt, it wouldn't be fair.

    January 10, 2013 at 11:20 am |
  42. Jesse

I think there should be more tests for performance enhancing drugs. Anyone caught using them should not be allowed into the Hall of Fame. Suspected users should be thoroughly analyzed to determine whether or not they should be allowed into the Hall of Fame.

    January 10, 2013 at 11:21 am |
  43. Christina

I think the accused players should have been tested for drugs. If they were innocent, they could be elected. I don't believe that anyone should jump to conclusions and say "yes" or "no" to the entire group of players.

    January 10, 2013 at 11:21 am |

I disagree with their decision not induct anyone into the baseball hall of fame. I think this because those players still worked hard and were dominant during their time in baseball. I think they should be rewarded for their performance.

I think its dumb. Barry bonds is the greatest of all time and has the most home runs ever. Enhancements dont make you hit home runs.He was talented before he took all those things. He should of made it.

  56. roberto

i agree with the rules of the hall fame because some players work so hard to get to the hall fame with out using illegal substances. it wouldn't be fair that someone uses drugs to get a lot of home run and MVP of the years by using drugs.

    January 10, 2013 at 12:31 pm |
  57. Janay

i think that someone should of got picked for hall of fame theres always one better then the other ye maybe two of them probally used drugs but not all of them

    January 10, 2013 at 12:31 pm |
  58. nicole

i understand where they are comming from when they didn't elect any hall of fame runners, because some of them did steroid and have been involved with drugs, but they should have considered the players that were clean and don't through themselves into that kind of mess. they should have at least checked if they had a history or not, or may just elect the ones that don't get involved in steroids and that kind of junk. it's not fair.

I would have to say that I would have to agree with no new comers in the hall of fame this year. I agree with this beacuse I feel it would not be fair to the people who have been in league longer and have gotten nothing. It is considered cheating in my book. Not fair. Not fair at all.

These legends should't be swept under they rug just because there's several accusations of players using peformance enhancement drugs, they should just check the records and evidence of they accused players before they have canidates. They shouldn't have one player ruin their chance of fame for the other group of canidates.

i think that there should not pick a hall of fame if there being accuse of using performance enhancing drugs. If they pick someone then others might use it then be like how come i dident get pick. There are alotof people in the MLB that work hard without any use of drugs.

I think that they should just put in the player that has the highest amount of votes. Even if they don't have have the right

I thnk this was unfair. Just because one player has taken sterroids doesn't mean all players do. I think they should give them a drug test if they're going to be in the Hall Of Fame instead of just assuming that most of them were doing drugs.

    January 10, 2013 at 2:06 pm |

I think they should go ahead and not put any new names until they get to the bottom of the situation and once they do and the nonce that were accused of using steroids that did not use them should go ahead and get put into the hall of fame.

I think that the players should've been able to be elected. Even though it is illegal, what if they didn't really do the drugs? That is an unfair choice because they deserved to have recognition for their accomplishments.

I think for baseball fans this is a huge disappointment. If I was a baseball fan I would definitely be disappointed. The players that were using performance-enhancing drugs shouldn't even of been nominated to get into the hall of fame. I think they shouldn't get a chance. Everyone else is entering the draw for the hall of fame without drugs. That would be a unfair advantage. Of someone would try to be unfair like that, They don't deserve to be in the hall of fame.

i think that they should stay in the hall of fame like Babe Ruth he was great before he did drugs ( if he did ) they are still great baseball players.

I feel like they put people in the hall of fame for a reason and kids look up to these outstanding athletes but it isn't right when they use performance-enhancing drugs, and no kid should look up to a person who breaks the law and drugs themself to do better, so i think this is completely fair.

I think it's Bad that none of the players got chose, because guys like Berry Bonds, Samy Sosa, ect , messes thing up for all the other players that had a good career without using any type of performance enhancing drugs.

This dosen't effect me at all, It dosen't really matter to me. One reason is because i think baseball is boring. Also it's just the hall of fame how is this effecting any one?

    January 10, 2013 at 4:32 pm |
  98. bobby

i dont really care because i don't understand the hall of fame. Also me and marquise should be in the hall fame because we are to exclusive for these people. last they should allow baseball people to the hall of fame because there important to.

  99. poly

i think that someone should be elected each year no matter what happen. players work so hard so that they can be in the hall of fame. Notthing should stop them from picking a player.

    January 10, 2013 at 4:33 pm |
  100. chazz

i think that they werent on drugs and that who ever accused them is doing the wrong thing. They should be picked off of what type of homeruns they make and not what they do in the gym. Dont judge people by what they do judge them by what they achieve.

    January 10, 2013 at 4:35 pm |
  101. Anonymous

i think the hall of fame is wrong for not bringing anyone in this year. One persons actions should not affect another when they worked hard to be were they are

    January 10, 2013 at 5:45 pm |
  102. Sara

I think they made the right decision. Who would want to lose to people who cheated with performance-enhancing drugs? It isn't fair to those who actually worked for it. Besides, there's always next time. Those who work for it fair and square will be rewarded for their efforts.

    January 10, 2013 at 6:03 pm |
  103. Nicole

If they are using performance enhancing drugs and were nominated to be in the hall of fame, I think they should not. Just like my teacher said, young children look up to these athletes! They all disagreed to have been taking them too. They should just face the consequence of not getting into the hall of fame.

    January 10, 2013 at 6:14 pm |
  104. Dylan

I think that if you take drugs to profect your performance is stupid. Your not proving anything except that you can't hit a ball.

    January 10, 2013 at 6:30 pm |
  105. Felicia

I think the verdict was fair because the athletes used drugs and it was illegal. But they do not have evidence that the athletes used drugs. They need conclusive evidence to prove that they used drugs.

    January 10, 2013 at 6:40 pm |
  106. Aeryn

I think because some players got accused of drugs, people who reject drugs didn't want to vote for them.

    January 10, 2013 at 6:45 pm |
  107. Bella

Only if they know for sure that the players have been using these drugs, then they are absolutely right not to put them in. Using these drugs is absolutely known as cheating! But, votes do count, and it is really up to the public to decide in the end. So, if it is still unsure that they have been using the drugs or not, and the players do get enough votes, then Hall of Fame should put them in until something clears things up.

    January 10, 2013 at 6:48 pm |
  108. Cooper

Before the athlete is eligible for a spot to be voted for in the hall of fame, I thing that they should have a drug test done before they become a hall of fame candidate. I think this is a good idea because if the athlete has done or does drugs to enhance their playing abilities, that will show up on the drug test, and will be considered "cheating."

    January 10, 2013 at 6:56 pm |
  109. Sam

Accused and were found guility are very different terms. Many of these players work very hard to get where they are at, and i believe just because they are accused does not mean by any means that they are gulity, at least yet. Remember the saying everyone is innocent until proven gulity? They should have done more drug tests on those who are elligible, that is always a must.

    January 10, 2013 at 7:00 pm |
  110. savannah

maybe some players do use drugs but that should not affect if they go in the hall of fame or not.

    January 10, 2013 at 7:12 pm |
  111. Ethan

It is the right thing to do if these big ball players do steroids to be good they should not be recognized on something. they cheated on

    January 10, 2013 at 7:44 pm |
  112. Carmen

I just don't understand. We have the technology to find out...why do we not use it? And what happened to innocent until proven guilty? In all honesty, I think they should be voted in. Give them their deserved recognition. But if they're found guilty, remove them. Why make such a problem out of what doesn't have to be?

    January 10, 2013 at 8:07 pm |
  113. Asha

I think that the baseball players are so eager to please that they can make mistakes like using performance inhancing drugs. The mostlikely would even think of the concequences only the benefit.

    January 10, 2013 at 8:09 pm |
  114. Axel

I think that they did the right thing not electing a baseball player of the year. Some of the players who were eligible have also been accused of having used performance-enhancing drugs. This doesn't surprise me that they didn't get picked because later on there would be commotion about who got picked. When Lance Armstrong won seven titles in the Tour de France, and then got them all taken away from him and now all of the trophies are under no ones name – all of this was done because of performance-enhancing drugs.

    January 10, 2013 at 9:04 pm |
  115. Robert

There should be players submitted into getting the award in the hall until they are proven to have used drugs. There needs to be facts about whether or not they have used drugs.

    January 10, 2013 at 9:29 pm |
  116. Dillon

If those players did use performance enhancing drugs, which are illegal in major league baseball, it is unfair for them to be in the hall of fame considering that this is illegal. At the same time, anyone could be "accused" of using these drugs. That doesn't mean they did it.

    January 10, 2013 at 10:08 pm |
  117. Daisy

I feel they should not have a chance because some players spend alot of time trying to get good and then they would get mad if the people who cheat get a chance to make it but not them. If you put yourself in their shoes you will understand.

    January 10, 2013 at 10:09 pm |
  118. Wilson

It seems that just because the players are good they are assumed to have used performance enhancers. Until it is proven or more proof is in they are good players and should have the chance at the hall of fame.

    January 10, 2013 at 10:51 pm |
  119. Luke

Anyone that uses performance enhancing drugs is cheating and should not be rewarded for it by being admitted into the hall of fame. The people that dont use drugs should be considered first for the hall of fame.

    January 11, 2013 at 6:54 am |
  120. Danovan

I think it is far cause they used too much drugs

    January 11, 2013 at 8:51 am |
  121. HALEY

I think that it was fair not to not have anyone on the hall of fame because drugs are illegal and its not right for them to use them to make them go faster and jump higher

    January 11, 2013 at 8:56 am |
  122. Jarod

People using those kinds of drugs in sports are cheaters! They shouldn't get into sports like that! That's called "having the advantage over other players." All players should play equally, and that's how I like it.

    January 11, 2013 at 9:37 am |
  123. Braiden

I think that no one should be put in the hall of fame because you don't know if someone is lying and someone is not. I wouldn't want to risk it.

    January 11, 2013 at 10:17 am |

But anyone using steroids definitely shouldn't be aloud to have the privilege of being in the hall of fame.

I think that people who take drugs to win shouldn't be in the Hall Of Fame because they should earn it by working hard, not depend on drugs to do the work for them.

    January 11, 2013 at 11:01 am |
  137. Jose

I think they should be in the hall of fame there is no evidence that they used the drugs.

    January 11, 2013 at 11:41 am |
  138. Walker

I think they should be allowed, or at least do a drug test. Players in the past may have been on drugs, and they're only being accused. Nothing has been proven.

    January 11, 2013 at 11:43 am |
  139. Ender

Even though they may be using drugs they should still be able to be put in the hall of fame. If they take a drug test and fail, they should be put into a special part of the hall of fame. If they pass, they should be put as they normally would.

    January 11, 2013 at 11:47 am |

I dont think they should change names

    January 11, 2013 at 2:47 pm |
  143. Bunny

I think that they shouldn't elect any names, because they need to make sure that the aren't doing drugs. I think that they need to check them first then see who is doing the drugs and who is not.

I think that the players that don't use PED's should be in the Hall of Fame and the players that do use the PED's shouldn't be able to qualify to be in Hall of Fame.

    January 11, 2013 at 3:41 pm |
  145. Audrey

I think that that It's not right for the Hall of Fame to not accept any new Participants because for one they aren't even positive that the players were using Preforming Advancing Drugs

    January 11, 2013 at 3:44 pm |
  146. Alizabeth

I don't think they should be in the Hall of Fame because it's not the only thing that is the best there are other thing that are better thing then the Hall of Fame. :/

    January 11, 2013 at 4:09 pm |
  147. Robert

I think nominees should be put in for getting the hall until they are proven during drugs

    January 11, 2013 at 4:10 pm |
  148. Mr.Winns 6th hour

I don't think that people who use drugs in any way, whether it's to help playing or to just do drugs, should be allowed to go in the hall of fame because it's not fair to the athletes who actually try their best even without illegal options anywhere in the minds.

    January 11, 2013 at 6:17 pm |
  149. Jack

I think that steroids was a part of the baseball era back then. We will never know if Barry Bonds and Roger Clements would have still been the best in the league without being tainted. However we do know that steroids is behind us and that if you took steroids we'll turn our back on you.

    January 11, 2013 at 6:26 pm |
  150. Brielle

I don't think the drug takers should be put in the hall. People need to realize that if drugs do anything, they weaken the performance.

I think the baseball players have to play the right way no matter how they want to get into the baseball hall of fame.

    January 12, 2013 at 5:50 am |

I think they shouldn't get voted for the hall of fame because drug is kind of like cheating and unfair for other players in MLB

    January 12, 2013 at 7:11 am |

Drugs are really bad! I think it was fair to do that!

    January 12, 2013 at 7:17 am |

I don't think they should be elected in the hall of fame because their superb performance is accomplished by doping. It is unfair for other players who work hard to gain a place in hall of fame. I think the prize money that the players earned should be confiscated.

    January 12, 2013 at 8:08 am |
  155. kia

I for once do not think that some who use inhancement drugs to make them more agile in sports shouldn't even exist in the hall of fame.

    January 12, 2013 at 10:09 am |
  156. Jackson

I think it is completely unfair because the other people already in there worked hard to get in there and the people that work do deserve to get in it.

    January 12, 2013 at 10:15 am |
  157. Mikayla

I think that all players should be tested for the use of drugs and if any of the canadates are left then they can get into the halll of fame.

i dont agree because if one person gets caught its all of the teams falut because there a team and i think that its right for no one to go to the hall of fame -jelly-

  158. Brian

Some people were just great players back in the time before the steriod era. People who took steriods completely changed the game and the statistics just by using steriods. That's why it is very common for players to hit for a batting average of .300 (which is good enough already) a year with 30-40 home runs and still get very little to no attention at all.

    January 12, 2013 at 7:48 pm |
  159. Molly

This is very fair because those players who did use steroids made a bad choice. If they deny it and they know they did use it it is just hurting the other players chance of getting the award they may have actually deserved. This is fair because if you did use those drugs then you really don't deserve to be in the hall of fame.

    January 13, 2013 at 1:42 pm |
  160. Caroline

It wouldn't be fair if famous baseball players today can be in the hall of fame for accomplishments they have made when they are using drugs to help them. Baseball players thirty years ago didn't need these drugs to earn their way into the hall of fame so why do players use them now? Don't they feel like they are cheating themselves? When you make any sort of record and you know personally it wasn't truthfully earned because you cheated you're way there you should feel awful and just come forth and confess!

    January 13, 2013 at 7:53 pm |
    • Beau

Well the other players that dont do drugs should to make the game fair.

      January 15, 2013 at 2:25 pm |

Steroids should never be accepted, however this era shouldn't be denied. Tiger Woods gets looked at negatively, but those who know golf and play golf also know he built it to where it is. Same goes for the steroid era. Baseball is known as America's past time. Right now, it's time is almost past. How come we don't hear about Alex Rodriguez when steroids are mentioned? How was George Steinbrenner allowed back in baseball but Pete Rose isn't? What kind of standards are there? Baseball needs to review it's past and move forward.

  162. Lola

Players can be pretty "wacked" up when it comes to drugs and such. Players should be tested of use of drugs before they can be put in the hall of fame.

    January 13, 2013 at 10:16 pm |
  163. James

They should just let one guy in anyways.

    January 13, 2013 at 10:20 pm |
  164. Jack

It is one argument on whether the people who have been confirmed users of performance enhancing drugs should be considered, but there is a whole other problem that is happening within the Baseball Writers Association. many writers are accusing players like Jeff Bagwell, who never tested positive for any drugs, of being users. This is absolutely ridiculous, these people are acting as the judge and juror against players who have no evidence against them.

I think that nobody should have their names on the hall of fame. If nobody is sure about who did the drugs and every person says that didn't do drugs in court. What is the point of putting anybody up there because there is going to be a lot of conflict anyway. Just to avoid that it would be easier for everybody all together.
