Your Top Election Issue(s)

A recent survey of Americans ages 14-17 found that their top concerns included the economy, jobs, education and health care.  It may not be surprising, since those are the same concerns of most American voters.  But it shows you how in tune your peers are with the issues facing the nation as a whole.

    Yes, it is the major issue right now in the country and I think economy and jobs are equal if either one goes we will have more than 60% chances of loosing jobs.

    My top concerns would be a job and an education because without a job how are you going to support yourself,economy and health care are important to but you don't have to worry about them as much as you have to worry about how you're going to make a livivng.

    I think that the top issue this year is the job loss. Obama has managed to make unemployment worse then when he was elected. Obama stated that he would fix the problem after four years. Obama said himself that if the I cant fix the economy I would be a one term President. More people have lost there jobs rather than gain jobs during his term. Alot of the money has been sent to the health care when the number of people on foodstamps has really gone up for the past years. Obamas talk of jobs nevefr happend and many familys have lost their jobs, and homes. I feel as though president Obama has not fufilled his pormises for the USA. President Obama should of focused on fixing the economy rather than forcing Obama care on the country.

      I agree with you Sean. How are we going to progress without jobs? The answer is:we won't. If we lose all our jobs the USA could lose all it's money, people would be starving on the streets, we would be forced to rely on other countries for help, and then finally, the USA would collapse just like Rome and other ancient civilizations.

    I think that it's very good that younger people are sarting to take a closer look at the government. I also think that they are definetly mostly concerned about jobs and the economy because most teenagers are looking or will be looking for jobs in the near future and if the economy can't support teenagers getting a job than there is a lot to worry about in the near futer.

    My main concerns would probably education and jobs. I feel that if education goes down then lots of people will go without jobs. You kind of need education to get a good job. I think that that needs to be one of the top things the new president should focus on. Jobs and education.

    I think the big issues being talked about in the elections are probably jobs and the country's debt. This has been a hot topic in the debates and speeches Gov. Romney and President Obama have been giving. Health care is also a big issue, too.

    The biggest issue for me in this election is deficit reduction. A large deficit could lead to a default on our debt which would cause the world economy to collapse and send billions of people spiraling into absolute chaos. So, I would like to hear how the candidates will fix that.

    I I think this is true. I'm in that age group and I want to know I'll have a job once I'm out of high school and go to college. That should be what the presidential candidates should be concerned with. I'm glad I can't vote yet.

    First, definitely jobs. Many students think about getting jobs, after they graduate college. Second, education. Most of the students in college, high school, middle school concerns about education, because education is closely related to them. Third, economy. Economy is also closely related to their lives too. I think many issues will affect this year's election.

    My top priority is the economy. Most people don't think about how us kids are going to inherit the planet, but we are. If the economy is in bad shape when we get the planet, there probably won't be a whole lot that our generation can do about it. Also, if the economy is bad, there will be job troubles. And eventually, everyone has to work. So the adults have to do something for the next generation, our generation, because no one takes us seriously yet.

    My top concern would be the dangers of the advancement of the police state in America. Recent bills passed such as the NDAA and Patriot Act are unconstitutional and significantly inhibits our freedom.

    The most important thing is Medicaid. Governor Romney wants to take away Medicaid and give it to the elderly. President Obama wants to leave it because kids get sick more than the older people.

    I would like the presidential candidates to focus more on how teens are supposed to get jobs and how we are supposed to pay off our college loans (if he/she gets a loan). People my age and older are worried about how they are supposed to support themselves in the next ten years, but what if we can't? What if they don't get jobs, due the unemployment rates..? If I can't get a job coming out of college, how am I supposed to pay off my college loans?

    I think that the most important issues to me are the jobs. I think that there are not enough jobs for the people who have just graduated from college. I am worried that I won't be able to support myself when I graduate. The job rate is really slow, so many people won't be able to pay back their loans if they borrowed money for school.

    The most important election issue to me is the economy. If we don't have a good economy then lots of people won't have jobs. If people don't have jobs then they won't be able to provide for their family or pay for their kids to have an education. The economy effects everything, so Governor Romney and President Obama should be talking more about that.

Education is a very important topic because when we graduate then how will be able to pay back student loans if they are really high. This also relates to jobs because when we graduate there will be no jobs to pay back loans.

    I am most worried about jobs. Teenagers are having a hard time getting part-time jobs. Adults that are out-of-work are taking a lot of the jobs that teenagers used to get.

    I feel that the economy is the biggest issue here. We have this huge debt, causing us to try and create new ways to try and fix it which might not help. This makes everything fall into place, making education worse, and causing wars. I hope we fix this problem soon.

Jobs are getting harder and harder to find and by the time I get out of high school jobs will be very hard to find and if jobs are hard to find how will young adults start their lives. It will be more difficult to find jobs and for people to start their lives. I want a president that can supply the jobs that we need to make a better world.

    I think the top issues this election year are a lack of jobs and the downfall of the economy. I am a high school senior and I know that it is going to be hard for me to find a job when I graduate next year. With the prices of everything going up, including college, it is really going to be a challenge to attain a higher education.

    I think that many people are homeless and it is a really big issue I think that we need more jobs and to open up shelters for homeless people at least until they find jobs and get themselves on their feet.

    I think that we need to help the homeless people find homes. I see people that are sitting by dumpsters and it is very sad because they don’t have anywhere to go. They barley have any food. Also they have no clothes. It is very sad and I think that we need to work on that and get homeless people homes.

    The economy is the biggest issue because we need the economy to create jobs and have younger people be able to get better schooling. In October 2009, 15,421,000 American citizens were unemployed. Obama was in office at the time and I think we, as Americans, need a change.

    I believe one of the top issues in the election this year are health care. Not everyone can afford health care, that’s why we have Obama Care. Now, one of our presidents (Romney) is thinking of taking away Obama care from the families that need it the most. Yes it may help with some tax cuts, but I believe that their will be many family’s possibly ill and in need of this health plan. It helps so many families and for someone to take that away from them is terrible.

    My opinion is that, students who go to college should have secured jobs waiting for them after college. To continue, I think that the colleges and yearly school fees shouldn’t have to be so expensive because of students graduating and still having to pay college fees.
    I also think we should try to create peace in the Middle East instead of picking a side. There should be fair rights to every country and territories, etc. we should stop funding Israel armies and try to solve the conflict between the Israel and Palestinian countries and try to clean up all the damage in plaestine ( Gaza strip and Jerusalem ).

    My opinion is I think that bullying is a huge issue. The reason why this is an issue is because it’s making people feel bad about them selves, upset, and they might lose their confidence. This is a big problem; it’s been going on for who knows how long. There have been so many kids who have committed suicide because they have been bullied, Bullying needs to stop. Everyone needs to work together to share everyone’s bulling story, and make others stop bullying.

    My concern is jobs. I’m concerned about when I leave college that I won’t have a job. I’ve talked to some of my fellow peers and they feel the same. I think the issue is that there are more elderly people that have to work because they need money and can't retire.

    I think the two most important issues, regardless of the election, are the economy and US foreign policy. How we handle ourselves at home and how we act around the world are interconnected. We should focus on creating jobs at home and getting the economy going while also supporting our embassies around the world and promote American and humanitarian interests.

    I think my main concern in the country is jobs and education. The reason is because you want to make sure you have a job when you get out of highschool and its hard for most people to get jobs these days. Most people need an edcuation to get these jobs but we have alot of high school drop outs in the past 4 years so most people are not getting excepted for jobs and not getting an edcuation i hope the world gets better.

    What concerns me most is the economy. The economy has almost like a domino effect, if the economy is bad, then there are no jobs. Most teens are concerned about jobs so they have their own money to buy stuff and not rely on their parents. If you can't get a job, after high school some teens have to pay their own way to college, hence the educational part.

    My concerns are state sales tax, for example, Prop 30 says if you vote yes it will increase state sales tax on California. But in Prop 31 says if you vote yes the sales tax will decrease a substantial amount per year.

    The low job rate is an important election issue because it directly affects everyone. People without jobs are of course directly affected and if they have children that can really take a toll on the family. Also, kids coming out of college may have no job offers due to this. The low job rate affects America and our economy and it needs to be fixed.

    One major issue in the 2012 presidential race is that governor Mitt Romney opposes gay marriage. The Declaration of Independence states that “We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.” If Governor Romney took this away, he would be taking away what America was founded on.

    There are many issues to look into during this election. Even though adults are the only ones who can vote, the children of our future need to be educated and heard in this election too. Surveys have found that we all have different views on the issues and which ones are most important, but personally I think that education, jobs, environment, and economy are the most important issues we have to face as a country. These four issues are the ones that will insure us the brightest future if solved and creating a better country.

    For this election year, I think that the top issue has to be the economy. When I turn 18, I would love to be able to have a great job, and I would hope that my job is also a good paying job. But, with the economy the way it is I really don’t see that happening unless we fix the debt that we have gotten ourselves into. If we do not fix this problem it could be a catastrophic issue for teens all around America.

    I think the top issue in the election this year is the economy. Many people are worried about what will happen to the economy if the right candidate isn’t chosen. If the candidate chosen cannot help, many people will be out of jobs and not have enough money to live.

    I think that health care is a big issue because there are so many people that don’t have enough money to pay for medical bills. Some middle class people have health care because they can’t afford if they get sick. My opinion I really think it’s smart that they have health care for people that can’t afford it. Two examples are homeless people and parents that have a lot of kids. Homeless people can’t even afford a home they are definitely going to need health care and parents who have a lot of kids they wouldn’t be able to afford to bring them to a doctor if they got sick. That’s why I think that health care is a big issue.

Most of the time when kids drop out they can’t get a good job. So if school’s had a law that not as many kids can drop out the economy would be better, because then they can get good jobs and you have to have people with money to start jobs.

    Students in our Shelter Care alternative classroom in Ames, Iowa were overwhelmingly concerned about maintaining women's rights. The class is made up of 6 teen boys and 5 teen girls. 10 out of 11 students expressed this issue as top on their list of critical issues, and drives their vote for the presidential candidates—if they were in fact old enought to vote.

    The issue I think is most important is health care. It's also the topic I feel is the most interesting. My reasoning is because for some middle class families, kids' parents work really hard and don't get much health care. Though when they look at the lower class, their parents could work at a not very well-paid job and get so much that they don't even have to pay for school, groceries, and even more when they don't even work as hard! I find that very unfair and am anxious to see how it willall play out in the end.

    My main problem with the election is with the whole idea of getting rid of Planned Parenthood. Over the years, teenagers, adults, and minors have dealt with accidental pregnancies, unwanted pregnancies, and in some cases, rape. In that case, these women look to Planned Parenthood for help in those cases if they are not ready for that kind of job as a mother, and/or father. Without Planned Parenthood, young women of our society will not have anyone to look up to for help. A lot of cases, the pregnancies are accidental or forced. In that case, they need to be able to have help so they can have a life without the stress of a child that was not wanted at all, or yet at least, and can live their young years.

I also think that the economy is really bad right now people are losing their jobs and losing money, so I say that we really need a better economy. Also I think that if we keep going on the path we are now in a couple of years since we have a really high debt we are going to belong to China because of how much we owe them.
    I also think that education is a very big deal people need education opportunities to get a job in the future, and if they don’t have a job they don’t get money, and money is very important.

Most of those millions of people actually work hard to find jobs, but there are just non left in the country. The government also owes about 16 trillion dollars to just China. There’s much more money the government owes to different countries, China isn’t the only one. Can you imagine how much money that is? America’s economy is slowing going downhill and it needs to rise again.

I also think that the people that are getting paid by the I.R.S. are getting paid enough just to pay there tax’s but the people who aren’t, are just barely making it but its kind of hard to even it out.

    For me, the main issues in this year’s election are the national deficit (the economy), the jobs, and education. These issues directly relate to my life and I want to see the candidates work to better these problems. The national deficit is billions of dollars right now and it doesn’t look like it will be decreasing soon, even if the economy does better. This is not fair to future generations, like mine, by leaving this problem for us to fix, when we didn’t do anything to cause it. I want the candidate who will slow down the rise of the deficit and do their very best to bring it down. The other major issues are jobs for kids coming out of college, and paying for and receiving education. Jobs are scarce hard to find for experienced professionals, so kids who can’t afford to get anything past a high school education will have a very hard time finding a job. Paying for college is difficult right now for many hard-working students and it leaves them in debt, in result many kids can’t receive a college education no matter how hard they try. I want a president who will take these concerns and make financial and job issues easier for students.

    For me the thing I listen to when watching debates or speeches, is what has to be said about the economy. Our economy is not doing so good and if we improve that we will have an easier life. I see my parents having trouble and dreading the days they have to pay the bills, and what would be a good relief for them is for them to be able to relax a little more, and with a good economy it can give them the help they need. Also, with a good economy there would be more jobs. I know that I would like a job when I get out of college, but with the unemployment rate for students out of college so high I am nervous for those years ahead of me. Overall, it sounds like both candidates have some good ideas, but for me, I need a president who can make their words follow up with action. for me and my family.

    One issue that I think is important during this election would be the loss and gain of jobs. I feel Romney would do a better job creating jobs then Obama would. Even though Romney wants to cut government funding, he would be creating more jobs so it wouldn’t be needed as much.

    Gay rights are a very important subject. Many people in the nation are gay, and are perfectly normal people. Taking away what they are allowed to do, such as marriage and even being able to participate in many issues that deal with American Life. They are the same and deserve what others who are straight. Many years ago, people thought that slavery was right, and do they now? What about in several decades, many people will perceive gays as a non issue and will look at us as if we were a very discriminated time period.

I think economy is a major election issue this year not just for young adults but for everyone in the U.S because everything links up to the economy. Economy is a major issue in the U.S right now because unemployment has dropped to 7.8% and many people aren’t finding jobs to support themselves or their families. Even college graduates that have degrees and are qualified enough can’t find a job right after school. If the economy is down it means that less people are going to be working and they’ll be receiving help from the government. If people are receiving financial help from the government then there will be more cuts on education and education is expensive as it is right now. This can lead to less students going to college which is a downfall because that’s a major role in creating more jobs especially in the medical field which can raise health care services for Americans. Therefore I believe that the economy is the biggest issue right now because if it’s failing then that will lead to the downfall of more jobs being created, education, social security, and health care.

    Social security is the top issue for me this year. I feel that my generation and future generations will all be affected negatively if Social Security is cut. I believe Social Security is important because it’s a right that should not be taken away from Americans. America has always been known as the country that provides everyone with equal rights to succeed despite the background they come from. By cutting Social Security is like taking away years of hard earned money from individuals. We are not receiving free money from the government. I sincerely don’t believe that by cutting Social Security in the U.S the debt be lowered but instead it will rise. Social Security is obtained by hard workers in America and if that right is denied then fewer people will put in long hours of work. That can lead to a higher rate of unemployment because there will be less competition to land jobs so people will conform with receiving financial help from the government especially for the youth because now as it is we are not able to find jobs after college.

Right now, school means a lot and it will mean a lot to me for over, hopefully, 8 more years at least. If I put a lot into my education I want a job waiting for me when I am out of school. If I can't get a good education, this will not happen. And besides a big job after school, I will need a job in my late high school years as well. Even small jobs like those will need to be open for americans. The next president, whether it is Mr.Obama or Mr.Romney, will need to make sure jobs are something that hard working people can come across.
