All Booked Up

Do you read for fun in your free time?
Believe it or not, I liked The Great Gatsby so much that I read it several times AFTER I graduated from high school.  Everything from the way it was written to the era itself struck a chord with me.  I also thought several of Graham Greene's novels were excellent, and the biography I'm reading now - Unbroken – is every bit as good as it is gut-wrenching.

In the spirit of National Library week, we're asking what your favorite book is - and what it is about that book that made it unforgettable.

Harry Potter and the Sorceror's Stone. I read it in second grade. It sticks with me for two reasons: the first is that it was an amazing book. And the second is that it was the first large book that I read, so I was more comfortable reading huge books.

I like the Harry Potter series also but my favorite book would have to be Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire. I like it because of how action packed it was with Harry being in the Tri-wizard torunement but we also get too see some places that we have never seen before like the bottom of the lake or The Riddle House.

One of the my most favorite books I've ever read is The Hunger Games. It was always full of suspense and it had a great story behind it. Honestly, it's one of the only books I've ever read fully and stay on top of it and I'm glad I did.

What i really want to know is why are people reading the Hunger Games now when it came out like three or four years ago is it because of the movie that came out. that is just stupid. I get that the author could get money but it just seems like ur only doing it for the money

My favorite book would have to be "Airman" by Eoin Colfer. My friend recommended it to me and I want to read it just to experience the adventure again. Its set in the 19Th century and about a boy growing up and thrown in prison for something he didn't do and called a traitor. Reading about his journey to prove his innocence kept me reading, and on the edge of my seat.

I absolutley love the Harry Potter series! However, I think that Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkeban was the best book! I loved the movies, but disliked the length of the book untill last year, in 5th grade, I decided I'd give them a shot. I fell in love with them and couldn't put the book(s) down!

      I <3 J.K. Rowling!

Books expand both your vocabulary and your imagination. We should teach kids that reading is fun, because their lives will be a lot easier as the grow up if they don't mind reading.

Romeo and Juliet is a great classic, but it's great to read new books also for the authors that influence the present kids that read book just take twilight for example, vampires and werewolves were all that people talked about but classics should never fade with time.

Well Carl that question gives me a dilemma. I like to many books to have just one but, if I had to choose one it would probably be Inheritance by Christopher Paolini. My favorite book is most definitely the biography "Breaking Night", written by Liz Murray. It portrays the rigorousness of an enduring battle to remain strong after so many hardships faced. In essence, my biggest take away from this truly remarkable story was that perseverance can yield success, and provide great dividends for a brighter future. It also made me scrutinize my life more, and take time to really be grateful for what I have.

    All booked up
I don’t read unless I have to. I should but reading is not something I find entertaining or fun. I don’t get a lot out of reading when I don’t understand it. I read for school because we have to but it takes me much longer than many others. If I found a book that wasn’t too long and of my interests then it probably wouldn’t be so but I don’t go out looking for books either..

I totally agree. I do not enjoy reading for fun. I play three sports and dont really have the time or patience to read a book after practice and homework every night. Plus reading just isn't fun.

My favourite book is 'The Hunger Game' and the "Torment' series. I like 'The Hunger Game' because I like the story overall and I love reading adventure stories. While you read this book, it makes you wonder what will happen next so you can't stop reading. I like the 'Torment' series because I also love reading romance. It's about an angel and a normal girl who are unconditionally in love with each other but their love is a hopeless one. I like most of the book I have at home and I just adore reading

Hello, I'm from South Korea. Well, I can't make a decision because Harry Potter was almost wonderful book but Tara Dunkun the second fantasy story was also great. When I read all series of Harry Potter, I was so sad that I read all. When Tara Dunkun 8th book arrive at our school's library, I always asked to librarian teacher that Tara Dunkun 8th is not borrowed. And finally, I read it. Now because of these two series, I became fantasy stories fan!

My Favorite book is midnightThe film revovles around Harvard-educated lawyer Declan Fitzpatrick (O'Connell); who impulsively gives up his settled life to buy Manet Hall, a newly restored plantation manor near New Orleans, which he has always been drawn to.
Local legends claim that the house is haunted, and shortly after Declan moves in he begins hearing voices and seeing things. Declan is also distracted by an undeniable attraction to Cajun local, Lena Simone. Lena was raised on the bayou by her grandmother Odette , and has her own deep connection with the manor.
While living in the house, Declan begins to have visions from a century past and details of events that took place in the mansion. With the help of Odette, Declan and Lena realize that they are inextricably linked with Manet Hall, and uncover a shocking secret that has been hidden there for more than 100 years.

My favorite book is The Three Musketeers by Alexandre Dumas. It's about so much more than the sword-fighting, with so many deep characters, such as Athos, Lady D'Winter, and the Duke of Buckingham. Dumas was a brilliant writer, who made even the littlest characters have their own back story. When I read the book, I found that the famous phrase "All for one, and one for all," is only used about two times in the whole book! I would highly suggest reading the actual book if you haven't- no movie or children's book can compare to it!

I think that the best book that I have ever read has to be The Limit. It's similar to the Hunger games but it's about kids being taken from ther parents and being forced to work in a workhouse until their famlies debt is paid off. This book is the best because it opens your eyes about how cruel different Goverments can be. Very wierd and face paced at the same time.

I like the book Catching Fire by Suzanne Collins. It is the second book in the Hunger Games series. In this book Katniss has to go back into the arena and fight to the death again. People in the arena protect Peeta and Katniss even if it kills them. The reason why is because Peeta and Katniss are the faces of the rebelion and if they die the resistance will possibly fail.

I like Harry Potter Book #7 The Deathly Hallows. I like this book because it has a lot of action and it will make you want to read more. In this book it has magic and mythical creatures. The book starts out on the shore after Doby died in the last book but kind of overlaps the other book. This series also has movies that you can watch to go with it if you want a picture in your mind of what is kind of happening if you don't already have one. You would have to read the whole series to understand the book.

I don't read books but one of my favorites is the sports magazines cause the pictures are cool and well I also like the Dr. Seuss books.
The Dr.Suess book is about imagination and beginner learning and I need that. They are also about like creatures that don't exist like the Lorax and the cat in the weird looking hat.
In the book I am being forced to read right now the germans are coming and they are going to kill people.
    I am all booked up.

My favorite book would be The Outsiders, this is my favorite book because it takes you back what life would be like back in the days when there was gangs every where. It talks about, well there is the two main gangs The Soc's and The Greasers. People think the Greasers are bunch of trouble, and the Soc's are the goody good ones. During the book it really shows that the Greasers are help full. Like when Pony Boy, Johnny, and Darry save those children in the burning church and it saves lives. That is my favorite book.

She has to capture witches, vampires, wolverines, fairies, shapeshifters, ect. If you like a little drama and adventure and a little romance then you should read this book. I love this book because it has most of the books I like into one. That's why I like it.

I love the Shiver series by Maggie Stiefvater. I`ve read the series at least five times because the way she describes and makes you really feel for the characters is amazing. Its about werewolves and an unforgetable romance. She makes you get so attached to the characters, I even started acting and quoting them by accident! She also wrote the Scorpio races which has become really popular lately, and i wanted to get more people to read the Shiver series because it is BY FAR my favorite book to read, its even above the Hunger games on my list!

The Hunger Games is my favorite book by far. The way it gets you excited and nervous just from reading books makes it a great book. The movie was also very good but, for me, the book was better because it had a lot of detail and you actually got to read what Katniss was thinking. If your looking for a good read I would defiantly recommend this book.

I liked how the author made the main character the daughter of someone nobody wants to be friends with which makes it harder for her to make friends and then her sister started hanging out with a popular guy, so she's forced to hang out with him and his friend which makes the other girls jealous of her.

The book "A Summer to Die" is an amazing book for so many reasons. First up, the book takes a real life tradegy that happens almost everyday and turns it it to something that...is undescribable. Thus fact that people die from cancer everyday and no one knows about it, it is just sick. The author of " A Summer to Die" shows an enlightened way of how people go everyday. Thus author shows that you only live once and you have to enjoy life he first time around.

My favorite book of all time is Because of Winn Dixie. It a book about a dog and this girl named Opal and she finds this dog Winn Dixie and they become best friends. It is also a movie and the movie is really good. I like this book because I am an animal lover I love animals. This book is not sad I don’t like where the dog dies in the end I don’t like those books because they are sad. Winn Dixie does not like thunder storms and goes missing for like 2 hours and then he is back at a friend’s house because they had a birthday party for this little girl and Winn Dixie came home and they lived happily ever after. I would recommend the book if you are looking for a good dog book.

One book that I think is interesting is 100 cupboards. The book is about a boy named Henry who has to live with his uncle because, his parents were kidnpped. When Henry was at the attic he found 99 cupboards. Henry was suspicious of the cupboards so he went in one of them and tried to see what is in there.

Currently I am starting the Harry Potter series for the 7th time. I have read the whole series, word by word, at least 7 times. The books were just so well-written and the idea of the whole series was so creative. I have loved the books and the movies. Even though the movies weren't as good as the books, it would have been impossible trying to make a replica version of the books. I loved the humor J.K. Rowling added in throughtout the series, making the books enjoyable to read.

Right now, I am extremely into the classics like Edgar Allen Poe's works. I also enjoyed reading Pride and Prejudice so much that I have read it at least four times over. The way Austen writes is simply captivating for my tastes and the way Poe weaves details into his short stories is really something that only he can do. Of course, it's so captivating that sometimes, I can't sleep.

I read the first two books in the Hunger Games series and saw the movie. For me, I personally did not enjoy Catching Fire as much because I was constantly pushing/ forcing myself to read it. I also felt that Catching Fire was missing something to really catch the readers attention. On the other hand I thought the Hunger Games itself was truly an amazing book and caught my attention so much that I couldn't put it down! I loved the book!

I have to say... my favorite books are probably The Hunger Games trilogy. Set in a post apacalyptic world, The Hunger Games is a rich story, with a perfect mix of action and drama. One character, Peeta, stood out from all the rest for me, from being picked to compete in the Annual Hunger Games, a game set up by the government forcing children to fight to the death, to him professing his love for the main character, to the sweet gentle way he handled problems, and despite challenges, he opens his heart back up to the girl he loves to help them both overcome the pain in their lives. The Hunger Games was wonderful, and I would recommend it to anybody who loves action and suspense, with a perfectly sized dose of romance.

My favorite book from when I was a child was “Love You Forever” by Robert Munsch. This book is still one of my favorites as an 18 year old young adult. My mom would read this book to me almost every night before bed, and before she would kiss me goodnight and turn out the lights she would repeat, “I love you forever, I’ll like you for always, as long as I’m living my baby you’ll be.” The line was one from the exact story. I’ve always cherished this story, just because of the fact that now whenever I hear of it being talked about I think of my mom.

My favorite book is Jane Eyre. It is a literary classic that was written with incredible style and meaning. The struggle between what you want and what is right is prominent, thus it is still relevant to today’s readers.

    Tell ya what Carl,
Being the sophisticated and upper-class 18-year old man that I am, my favorite book of all time is… “WHERE THE WILD THINGS ARE”! It was when I was 5 years old and still is. Even if it is a book for young kids, it’s still the best book ever. (I was hoping the movie would be the same way… boy was I wrong.) In honor of Library Week our student council read books to the elementary kids, and I read this book to every class and there was always some kids, if not the whole class, who loved it. Even still being in or even out of high school, the book can still teach you something- no matter where you go, you can always come back home, because that is where you are loved best of all.

I loved The Help, by Kathryn Stockett, because it showed how important women are in history. I love reading about the 20th century because I like knowing about what life was like when my parents were my age. The book is super funny, but accurate and I would totally recommend it!

My favorite book would have to be "The Maze Runner" by James Dashner. It is so amazing, I will never forget it because it has so much action in it and I love the plot about it. I also love "The Hunger Games" by Suzane Collins because of the plot, most say the topic of killing children is so dismal but really it is so enticing that who really cares? I also have to say that "The City of Ember" is pretty epic as well, our school has this reading time for 15 min. each day and we are reading it. I like it because it makes me realize what things could be like in the future and how people with little resources live.

My faviorate book would have to be Animal Farm by George Orwell because it is not only an interesting story, but a unique look at a form of government/society that works in theory but turns sour in practice.

I loved Animal Farm it was sad yet enlightening at the same time, I read it for school in sixth grade the first time, after we read it we had to do a Character Analyzation I did mine on Boxer, the old draft horse with the slow voice and silly comments, his ignorance was bliss and he was child like, I liked Boxer because he beleived in the good of the world, he was an optimist.

My favorite book is the Harry Potter series. I was very reluctant to read it at first; I actually teased people who liked it because I thought it looked like a stupid book. I was running out of books to read though, so Laura talked me into trying it. As soon as I got through the first chapter I was hooked. I think I have now read every Harry Potter book at least seven times. I love the characters and the story of good vs. evil. I love how even though it is a fantasy world, everything can be applied to real life.

Seeing as how in order to read a book it has to keep me interested, and the only books that keep me interested are sci-fi-horror books, I'd have to say that my favorite book is Reef of Death by Paul Zindel; but in all honesty I like almost all of his books. As morbid as it may sound, I can't read books unless they have a suspenseful theme, or grotesque visualization, such as detailed decapitation, these things are what allow me too stay interested and keep reading to figure out what happens in a specific timeframe of the book. Since I started reading Zindel's books I haven't been able to read anything else, I haven't found any author who has that some dark horror type of writing, besides Edgar Allen Poe, but I've read all his work already.

I really don't have a favorite book because there are a lot of great books out there and it would be extremely tough to choose one, especially when a lot of them have sequels. Some of my favorites are the Percy Jackson books, the Eragon series, the Mortal Instruments series, and the Ranger's Apprentice series.

My favorite book is the Hunger Games. I like the time period it's in and the action is throughout the books. The whole series is AWESOME!!!!!! Susan Collins does a great job of making the characters seem so real! Also the story line draws you in so you can't put the books down until you find out how they end.

My favorite book is Go Ask Alice by Beatrice Sparks. It's a diary of a 15 year old girl and takes you on a journey of the terrors of reality. It was uncensored and bare; it's just you and Alice's thoughts. From her home, to California, you were always with her through her struggle of drug addiction. It was very well written and authentic. It was NOT your average book.

My favorite book is The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins. This book is the complete package. It has adventure, romance, and a little bit of mystery. It is by far better than Catching Fire and Mocking Jay. Those books both have some slow parts unlike The Hunger Games. There is always something exciting happening! When I read this book I could not put it down. If you have not read this book I strongly encourage it.

My all-time favorite book would have to be A Crack in the Sky. It has a futuristic feel to it that I enjoy very much. It’s about a boy, Eli Popadoplous and his pet mongoose that can communicate with him. He is part of the family that created the domes over all major cities. Horrible sandstorms kill out the world and the domes are all that keep the cities alive. Eli has a daily fight with the CloudNet, the TV network that controls the peoples’ minds into keeping them happy. The domes are failing, and the Popadoplous’s know that. Eli has to fight The Friends of Gustavo, also known as Foggers that live in the desert. The CloudNet blames them for the dome failures, even though the sandstorms and lightning are responsible for the damage. This book is the first of The Greenhouse Chronicles. It is an amazing book. I give it five stars and very much urge you to read it.

I don't have a favorite book, but my favorite series Harry Potter by J. K. Rowling. It starts with a small book that basically tells whats up, and a little mystery. As the series goes on, it gives specific details and multiple conflicts...
I like the series because there is something new around every corner, with old things coming back. like in the Half-Blood Prince, you get to see Dobbey again, and you get to learn about inferi. This book gives you everything you could possibly want.

My favorite book is the Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins. Everyone at school loves these books. They are exciting and full of adventure. Katniss, Gale and Peeta are such great characters! You keep guessing and the unexpected always happens. If you have not read these books it's a must do. I love the different settings in the books and the details are amazing! You can just picture the images in your head as clear as day. These are the best books ever!

I am not a very big reading fan, but The Series of Unfortunate Events series by Lemony Snicket just makes one out of me. The kids have endless adventures and out of all 13 books, one mystery remains: V.F.D. I think that is why I like this series so much... they aren't mystery books but that is the ultimate goal... and that is a reason to keep reading. If you are like me, then you like to feel like you are there watching what happens as you read it in the book. These series are PERFECT for that feeling!

My favorite book is The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins. I know this might sound a little sadistic but I like the fact that it is fight to the death. Also I love the outdoors, so the setting is another thing that gets me. I also like to hunt so I feel like I can kinda relate to Katniss

My favorite book is The Secret Identity of Devon Delaney. It is an amazing book about a girl in 8th grade who lied to a girl named Lexi about being popular. Then Lexi ended up coming to Devon's school and the whole thing turns in to a catastrophe. It is very good to help you get through middle school. If you enjoy reading about drama between girls and overcomimg mean girls you would enjoy this series.

My favorite novel is 'Warriors' , I like the entire series. The books are written by Erin Hunter, Erin Hunter is three different authors, my favorite authors, too! I started reading when I was in 4th grade. The books have a lot of my interests, such as the "warriors" or cats. It's science fiction, also it is fantasy.... my favorite genre! The cats live in four different clans Thunderclan, Shadowclan, Riverclan, and Windclan, and their ansestors are Starclan (their religion) and cats go there when they die. The "warriors" go through harsh weather and fights between clans. They have to survive the life of clans, defending their clan at all costs.

My favorite series is The Harry Potter Series by J.K. Rowling. I like it because it is full of action and adventure. I also like the Wizardry in book. It's about a kid named Harry Potter. Since he survived the killing spell as a baby, Voldemort has been trying to kill him for good. It is even better than the Hunger Games.

My favorite book is " The Mysterious Benedict Society." It is written by Trenton Lee Stewart. It's about many kids who see an ad in the paper asking them to take a test. When they do; four students make it, and they are formed into a group called The Mysterious Benedict Society, because their adult leader is Mr. Benedict. They go through all of these adventures together; tedious tests of bravery and courage and the meaning of friendship. I love the teamwork, and the adventures.

My favorite book is The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins. It gives you a perfect view of the people through the eyes of Katniss, a girl who voleunters for her sister in a fight to the death. The book takes place in the future In North America after natural disasters that make them build the city of Panem that has 12 districts. Every year 2 people from each district one boy and one girl are chosen to compete in the games. The description of the places is just right. It creates a mental picture in my mind of the places. It makes me feel like I'm right alongside Katniss. I love this book and highly recommend it.

My favorite book is "'Eragon"' in the "'Inheritance Series"'. There are many reasons why I like that series, but the best one is probably the dragon, Saphira. She is so sarcastic. The main plot in the "'Inheritance Series"' is a farmer boy, named Eragon, of age 16 finds a blue stone, which happens to be a dragon egg. The evil king had the egg but an elfin lady, Arya, stole the egg because the evil king Gablitrox had the last 3 remaining eggs in the world and he wanted to use them to take over the whole world. Arya transported the egg near Eragon, who had no clue what was happening and took the egg. A few days later the egg hatched for him and he became a rider, able to defeat the evil king. It goes on about battles and such, but at the end, the king is overthrown. Here is my favorite part; it is when Eragon has gotten himself into trouble because every time the dragon Saphira leaves Eragon alone he gets into trouble. Saphira is able to communicate with Eragon and she is scolding him. She says this, “If you ever do that again I will bind you to my back and never let you off.” Eragon replies sarcastically “I love you too” Saphira says “Then I will bind you all the tighter.”
This book series is well writen.

I have a vast amount of favorite books, and it's impossible to choose just one. They all were increasingly suspenseful, adventurous, and inspiring. One of my favorite books, though, has to be the Tintin comic books by Herge. It is one of the most extraordinary works I have come upon in my entire life. It tells the story of Tintin, a reporter for the Le Petite Vingtieme, and his faithful (and amazing) fox terrier, Snowy, and their adventures around the world (and briefly into space).
The situations are suspenseful and it is enthralling that Tintin was literally Herge's life work. The illustrations are so detailed and precise, and it features profound hilarity.
    I LOVE TINTIN AND SNOWY!!!

We read the outsiders in 8th grade and it was a really good book it always kept you wondering what was going to happen next in the book and it was always action packed no matter what the boys were doing in the book. Another reason i like the book The Outsiders is because it was set in the kinda olden days where kids were getting in trouble and they had gangs and were fighting other gangs for territory. So I guess I would have to say thats why my favorite book is The Outsiders.

My favorite book right now is a book called Divergent by Veronica Roth. Its a fantastic dystopian themed book, that you can never put down. You better not have any plans, because once you start you'll stay in place till the very last page. Its such a unique and engaging book. I loved it!
