Consequences of Cheating

A zero, a letter grade, suspension:  These were the possible consequences if we cheated on a test at my high school.  And as you'll see on Thursday, alleged cheating on a college admission test can result in criminal charges as well.

We're interested to know your thoughts on the consequences.  What do you think should happen if a student is found guilty of cheating on a major exam?

i think thats a very bad thing to do because students don
t learn muc if they just cheat so they should have to redo
the grade and probably go to juvinial

I think that if a stuent is found guilty that they should at least have a zero on the test. If it's a major exam at least suspension. Its not right and it should never be done. It defeats the purpose of learning and going to school in the first place. If you are that worried about a letter grade than you should put more effort into learning not cheating

A student that has been caught cheating should have some major consequences including a zero grade level,a call to the parents and also a detention.

    P.s. Carl Azuz is awesome

wow i know cheating is very terrible but do the united states really need to face crimial charges?

What I think should happen to the student is that he/she should go to a conference with his parents, teacher, and the counselor and discusses about the issue. If I were the principle or the counselor I would probably suspend the student for couple of months because it was a major exam. The student can also lose some privileges to go to some colleges because of this incident.

I don't think the students should face criminal charges. The administrators at their respective schools should handle the cheating incident just like any other exam. I do think that the cheating should be noted on their permanent academic record: the one that does follow them to college. Obviously, the exam score would be thrown out. and they should have to wait a full year before they took the exam again, perhaps in a supervised setting. I think the biggest consequence for these students would be that they were caught and colleges will probably not accept them to their university with that kind of a blemish on their record. As for the college student who took the exams for these high-school kids. I'd have him expelled, too.

In my opinion, the person responsible of the cheating should get different punishments, depending on how important the exam is. If it is a quiz, In School Suspension should be the punishment. Any form of cheating needs to be punished severly. If the exam is a test, suspension is in order for a a week. If the exam is standerdized, like the SOL's or the DRP, a fine of 3,000 dollars, payed by the student, and 20 hours of community service should happen. If the test is as big as the SAT, the student is given 50 hours of community service, a fine of 10,000 dollars, and they are given a 0 on the test. Any form of cheating should also be punished by getting a 0.

I think that it's too harsh to give the student criminal charges. Personally, I think that the student should've just gotten a 0 or an F. But then again, why would he even cheat?

If I were the principle or the counselor I would probably suspend the student for couple of months because it was a major exam. The student can also lose some privileges to go to some colleges because of this incident. He/ she should get punished in order for them to learn their lesson on permanent base. Punishment should be a lesson able not just the time passing by.

Cheating on a test is wrong, yes. And SAT is a big test....but I don't think people should go to JAIL for cheating! Maybe community service or something along the lines of that.... but jail just seems absurd.

If a student is caught cheating on a major exam, i feel as though they should be suspendend and forced to take the class over again because it's not fair to everyone else who made an effort to do well in the class and are hoping to get a good grade without cheating.

    September 28, 2011 at 7:22 pm |
  12. Nicholas

I think they shouldn't be able to go to college. Plus all the criminal charges. Its not fair for those who are honest and taking the test the right way. Its like as if you are getting into college for free without any work.

I think they should be punished to the fullest legal punishment available

I think that it's terrible to cheat on tests like these, therefore you should be expelled from that school so it doesn't happen again!

    September 28, 2011 at 7:33 pm |

i think the people found cheating should be given a chance to retake the test.

The consequences of cheating are different in every school and in every class. Every teacher, test, and school is different therefore punishments are different. If it were my social studies teacher and if it was a Social Studies Chapter Test, then it would probably end up in a zero and an email home (possibly a detention-depending on the test and how bad the cheating seems). However, high school SAT's have a colossal effect on your future. Cheating is one thing, but hiring someone to do the test for you is over-the-top. It is wrong in every way. If you get away with it, you may get offers to schools that have programs too advanced for your level of knowledge. If you get caught, you suffer the consequences the teacher decides to give you. In this case, they were arrested! Bad choices will effect your future in some way no matter what. I hope this will enourage students out there to make good desicions and NEVER, UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES, cheat.

I think kids should be heavely charged (not death) for cheating especially on teast like the SAT and ACT. I think they should be punished because if they were not then other people might try to do it knowing if they were caught they would not be punished.

    September 28, 2011 at 7:42 pm |

Personaly i think they should just get a lower grade not jail. Its justrong

    September 28, 2011 at 7:43 pm |
  19. matt

i think that it shouldn't resolve in criminal charges. They could just not be aloud to go to that college or maybe even not aloud to go to college at all till they retake the test!

    September 28, 2011 at 7:45 pm |
  20. Cole

I think kids should get a zero and two days of detention. Why would kids cheat anyway? I don't think they should get charged in school but in college I under stand that!

    September 28, 2011 at 7:46 pm |
  21. Rohan

Although students may be tempted to cheat, these matters should be handled very seriously because if schools and colleges are too lenient we will see this happen again and again.

    September 28, 2011 at 7:47 pm |
  22. Chack

I think that they should fail the test, get a letter home, and get a 3-day suspension. Cheating is a very big problem at my school.

    September 28, 2011 at 7:52 pm |
  23. Grace

I think that the student that is caught cheating should be given an automatic zero. If they cheat then what is the point of giving them a good grade anyways? When a student is given a zero they normally learn their mistakes by the bad grade, I do anyways. So the student who cheated may learn their lesson just like others do.

    September 28, 2011 at 7:54 pm |
  24. Raquel, Allison and Mica

We think that if hey are found guilty they should be sent to do highschool all over again. When they take the SATs again they will need to be in a different room with no one but a responcible adult. People should be responcibe for there actions, but they should also get the chance to have a second chance.

    September 28, 2011 at 7:56 pm |
  25. Willis

I think that they should have to do community service and we should find a unique way to teach them a lesson!

    September 28, 2011 at 7:56 pm |
  26. Richard

Anyone who cheats on SATs should be removed from the college & arrested.

    September 28, 2011 at 7:58 pm |
  27. Emma :P

Well, cheating isn't right and most kids at my school get either a zero, an F, or depending how big it is a suspension, like NWEA or other important tests. So, on a major exam I'd say suspension!

    September 28, 2011 at 8:03 pm |
  28. ZENDAYA

I THINK CHEATING IS BAD THING BECAUSE YOU WILL GET IN TROBLE ON TEST. AND PERSON WILL FIND OUT YOU WERE CHEATING. AND THEY WOULD TELL PEOPLE NOT TTALK OR SET BY YOU

    September 28, 2011 at 8:07 pm |
  29. Jason

I think they should be fined. It's not fair to the others.

    September 28, 2011 at 8:09 pm |
  30. Brennan

I think if you cheat on an major exam you should get detention for life, and i'm not joking

    September 28, 2011 at 8:16 pm |
  31. Savannah and Erin

We think that if you are found cheating on an important test, such as the SATs, you should just get a zero. Criminal charges really aren't necessary.

    September 28, 2011 at 8:19 pm |
  32. Aerjeng

They should be not accepted into any colleges they try to get into, an they shold be arrested for fraud.

    September 28, 2011 at 8:20 pm |
  33. Carlos

Cheating is not a good thing, you shouldn't do it, I think the guilt is punishment itself.

    September 28, 2011 at 8:22 pm |
  34. Alex

I think that this is not the right thing to do when you want to get an education. This is not only violating school rules but getting you arrested.

    September 28, 2011 at 8:22 pm |
  35. Hirsch

I agree that students are not suppose to cheat but what if the proctor has a misunderstanding? Won't that ruin the student career? I am not in favor of cheating but it should not be a crime!

    September 28, 2011 at 8:25 pm |
  36. Joe

If a student cheated then they should be suspended from High School or College.

    September 28, 2011 at 8:28 pm |
  37. Tony

I think that if a student is caught cheating on a test, quiz, or anything that a zero is needed. However, a zero is not enough. Support it with detention and even suspension, if needed. But the student should get to tell there side of the story.

    September 28, 2011 at 8:36 pm |
  38. Karlei

If students cheat, they should be punished. They should be forced to repeat that grade. Also if you cheat, you may not get into the coledge of your choice.

    September 28, 2011 at 8:43 pm |
  39. DAVID

A fat zero because that just shows they know nothing and they didnt want to study so they copy off someone to get the good grade. They sould just study it wont kill them to do it for about 20 mins.If they cheat like on fcat they just fail and cant do anything about it.Just study its not hard to do it.

    September 28, 2011 at 8:47 pm |
  40. Angelica

Cheating on a major test is very bad and wrong, you would need to face your punishment if you did something that bad.

    September 28, 2011 at 8:49 pm |
  41. Aubreyanna

Its not cool to cheat especially on an exam because then the consiquences are you should take the test again OR just get an F and fail.

    September 28, 2011 at 8:49 pm |
  42. Ethan

I think the people who cheat will not take the test and at the end of the year has to take it after school.

    September 28, 2011 at 8:51 pm |
  43. Kalland

I believe that i am sure about my answer. Cheating is wrong and no body should get away with it.

    September 28, 2011 at 8:51 pm |
  44. Sarah

I think that if a student is caught cheating on a major exam than the exam should be thrown away, counted as a zero and the person should be kicked out of whatever class they were taking the exam in.

    September 28, 2011 at 8:52 pm |
  45. Sara

Schools should have a more severe consequences. They say that they are trying the hardest they can, but teenagers are still losing their lives. They need to put an actual enforcment into this issue.

    September 28, 2011 at 8:52 pm |
  46. McClain

Cheating is never cool. It is just a dumb idea. i would sugest they get suspension, because they did a wrong doing

    September 28, 2011 at 8:52 pm |
  47. Caileen

I bealieve that cheating is wrong. They should get expeled and never aloud to step on that school ground again.

    September 28, 2011 at 8:55 pm |
  48. William

If this happened at my high school then the person would get expeled and would fail the test. I think thats only fair. When you want to get a phenomenal grade just study and dont risk going to jail.

    September 28, 2011 at 8:58 pm |
  49. Chris

I think cheating is just stupid. If you want a A then just study and dont cheat.

    September 28, 2011 at 8:59 pm |
  50. Joey

I think that if they are found guilty, they should have to pay a fine and spend some time in jail. The SAT is a huge test, so if you cheat on it, you should have punishment.

    September 28, 2011 at 8:59 pm |
  51. Sydney

I think that they shouldn't cheat because this a very important test.

    September 28, 2011 at 9:01 pm |
  52. Carebear

I think that cheating is just wrong. Who wants to cheat? You cant honestly think that you wont get caught. But if you are caught then you should get in major trouble

    September 28, 2011 at 9:01 pm |
  53. chyna

I think the consequences should be severe and the teens should know better. No, I don't think they are criminals but they should be punished. All that matters is that they learn their lesson and they never cheat again.

    September 28, 2011 at 9:02 pm |
  54. Sam

It's ridiculous that kids would cheat on a college admisson test.I think that the kids who got criminal charges got what they deserved. If you could cheat on a college admsion test everyone including people who did'nt study could get into college.

    September 28, 2011 at 9:02 pm |
  55. Kelcie

Cheating shows that you dont want to exell in life and that you are lazy.ISS(In School Suspention) is one of the consequences but there can be much worse.First off you can get expelled and also depending on what test you cheat on,crimanal charges will be there for impersonating another person.Grades are not just to see how well you are doing in school but to help you learn. School is not for "getting out of the house" but to help you exell in life and to get a good job for your health and to put a roof over your heal. Don't cheat and do your own work.

    September 28, 2011 at 9:03 pm |
  56. Brianna

I think they should get suspended and go to juvenile hall and be there for at least 2 months .

    September 28, 2011 at 9:03 pm |
  57. Lauren

I just think that the world revolves aroung me so its okay to cheat, i mean your only hurting yourself. So why does everybody else care?

    September 28, 2011 at 9:04 pm |
  58. Mihir

Well I think that someone who cheats on a very important test, should have to take that test again and not cheat. Also he should go to prison for a few years. If you are cheating on a test, then it is going to hurt you, not anybody else. If you cheat on a test than colleges won't take you in as a cheater period!

    September 28, 2011 at 9:05 pm |
  59. Keanna

If a Student is Caught cheating they should be Punished by getting a zero on the said assignment and perhaps a call home to their parents. It should be a three strikes your out type of thing. Strike one Call home. Strike two solitary seating Call home, Strike Three parent meeting with princible.

    September 28, 2011 at 9:06 pm |
  60. LAuren

Everyone wants to cheat off me, but you can't, im too cool to put the right answers, even if i know them

    September 28, 2011 at 9:06 pm |
  61. Sara

Cheating is a widespread problem. Everyone does it, but its what the school does about it that matters. Schools arn't enforcing it as much as they say they are. People are getting away with everything. Schools need to man up and not be afraid of their students.

    September 28, 2011 at 9:07 pm |
  62. McClain

Cheating is a big issue. It needs to be fixed. Soon.

    September 28, 2011 at 9:09 pm |
  63. Jerimah

Cheating is stupid. Like really?? Its also illegal

    September 28, 2011 at 9:09 pm |
  64. Caroline

A student who was caught cheating on any exam, major or even just a short quiz should get an automatic zero on the exam, and maybe get banned from certain school activities, like dances or field trips. They should also have to apologize to the person they copied off of, if that was how they were cheating. Only the student(s) who were guilty of cheating/copying should have to pay, because it's not fair if you get a zero because someone copied off your paper.

    September 28, 2011 at 9:17 pm |
  65. Riley

Consequences of cheating are many thins such as at my middle school You get A zero so i never cheat.

    September 28, 2011 at 9:21 pm |
  66. Matt

I think you should try to complete the test the best you can even if you dont know everything, trying your best is better than cheating. You dont want to apply to a college with false grades because you cheated and expect to do well later on. Cheating should have absolute zero tolerance no matter how important the test is.

    September 28, 2011 at 9:22 pm |
  67. Andy

I think that if a student cheats on a major exam, they should be punished by, some sort of fine.

    September 28, 2011 at 9:31 pm |
  68. Gena

I think they should get expelled because they shouldn't had cheat! They are grownups now, they should know how to take their own responsibility. They should take college exams seriously if they paid for their classes, or it'll just be a waste of money and time.

    September 28, 2011 at 9:32 pm |
  69. Lindsay

The consequences of cheating on either the SATs or the LSATs will be if a student is found guilty of cheating will be not getting their high school diploma and not graduating because the cheaters will be in jail so to prevent that students need to study so they can graduate and get their high school diploma and not go to jail.

    September 28, 2011 at 9:35 pm |
  70. Rickera

I think that the student found cheating should be suspended and have to retake the test when they get back to school. The reason being is that they know how serious cheating is. They should retake the test but it be completely different from the original, so that they can't just study for the questions.

    September 28, 2011 at 9:38 pm |
  71. Jack

Kicked out of school for a yr. no reason for someone to cheat

    September 28, 2011 at 9:41 pm |
  72. jaden

I think they should have the test taken at the end of the year, and sit next to the teacher

    September 28, 2011 at 9:44 pm |
  73. Alani

First off, cheating in general is bad, and deserves to be handled with consequences. In my opinion, the best way to handle cheating on a major exam would be to of course, be given a zero since it is not your work. If we did not enforce this, students who cheat would pass through to the next grade, or into colllege, withought knowing the information the need to know. This will eventually backfire on them later in life.

    September 28, 2011 at 9:44 pm |
  74. Ruchi and Reeti

If a student is caught cheating in a major exam, I think they should be punished by getting a zero overall, along with suspension or expulsion. It's the equivalent to stealing, even though the product in the end isn't malleable.

    September 28, 2011 at 9:46 pm |
  75. Ayo

I think that the person found cheating on a major test should not be put in jail but get a zero on the test instead that is more reasonable : o lol

    September 28, 2011 at 9:46 pm |
  76. Abby

Students who cheat on a major exam, especially for college, should definetly have consequences. They should have to re-take the exam, or not be granted acceptance to that school.

    September 28, 2011 at 9:49 pm |
  77. mari

If teachers taught the information better to te students, we wouldnt have a reason to teach. Teachers are getting to comfortable with the easy way out. They're getting paid to teach but not how good tey are doing it

    September 28, 2011 at 9:57 pm |
  78. Seth

i think the consequences of cheating should be that they have to be put them in a sell to take the test over

    September 28, 2011 at 10:03 pm |
  79. Kolin

Of course, why wouldn't you deny their entry to their college, and make sure their name gets out in the public? Then they wouldn't be accepted into other colleges. They made a VERY bad choice, and they should pay for it. They also should get fined the price they paid times 2, and be required to take the SAT again. But if a student were now to get caught on a major exam, they should fail the class. That is what the rule is at my high school, and it should be discussed with the principal, counselor, and teachers, as well as the parents and student.

    September 28, 2011 at 10:03 pm |
  80. Hasha

If a student is found guilty in a MAJOR exam they will get several consequences. One from the police (several major charges), one from your teachers, and one from yourself (you will feel shameful). Tests are there to test on your abilities and understanding of the concept, not to cheat and lie about your grade.

    September 28, 2011 at 10:03 pm |
  81. tyler

i think it doesn't just hurt their peers it hurts themselves by cheating with the SATs and they are also hurting their future by a long shot

    September 28, 2011 at 10:04 pm |
  82. Brianna

I think that cheating (especially on an SAT) should have major consequences. In middle school you can get expelled for cheating so why shouldn't that be any different for high school/ college students? Plus it is extreamly unfair to those who take the time and and spend hours on end studding.

    September 28, 2011 at 10:09 pm |
  83. Samuel

I think the kids should take the SAT exams to see if they qualify for the colleges they got into and if they dont they recive the punishments,if they do qualify then they deserve to have a second chance to attend college.I think the guy they paid to take their SAT exams then if one is guilty they might all be guilty.

    September 28, 2011 at 10:11 pm |
  84. Olivia

They should not be aloud scholarships or be aloud into four year universities.

    September 28, 2011 at 10:26 pm |
  85. Angie

Who in their right minds will cheat and take their chances with a test as important as the SAT test?! The SAT test play such a major part in these student's future, and they just blew it. If some of them were already accepted into college, then they must be intelligent. If they are this intelligent, why ruin their future, which was once so bright?

    September 28, 2011 at 10:27 pm |
  86. Ramsha

They should be arrested and they deserve whatever punishment the court decides to give them because it isn't easy to cheat on the SAT. It takes time and effort. time and effort that could have been used to study in stead of cheat.

    September 28, 2011 at 10:44 pm |
  87. Emily

I think that people who cheated or even helped the people cheat should get really good consequences such as 2 years in jail, $3,500 to pay when they get out, or not letting them get into college. If people want to be cheating on a really important test, they should get what they need, and thats not good!! whatever they do, they should get serious consequences. Sorry to change the subject but.....................I LOVE CNN STUDENT NEWS!!!!!! Good job Carl Azuz and say hi to cardboard Carl too! haha

    September 28, 2011 at 10:46 pm |
  88. kelsie

i think that the student should get a zero and suspension. it is not right to cheat. you will never get anywhere in life!!!

    September 28, 2011 at 10:46 pm |
  89. Drew

Cheating is bad no matter what, the schools that the students may have gotten into have a right and reason to kick them out. You should always consider the outcomes of what you are getting yourself into.

    September 28, 2011 at 10:50 pm |
  90. Ryan

I think that they get what comes around for cheating on an important test. I think that this is just not a good example for younger kids.

    September 28, 2011 at 10:50 pm |
  91. Bobi

I don't think cheating is right because other people worked hard and they just get good grades without trying

    September 28, 2011 at 10:54 pm |
  92. Jon

I think when a person got caught cheating on any test or quiz they should have a zero on it because they should've prepare them for that major exam in that class.

    September 28, 2011 at 11:08 pm |
  93. McChuck

I think that it is not right because some people actually earned their grades but not them.

    September 28, 2011 at 11:08 pm |
  94. Rusty

I think that the cheaters made the biggest mistake of their life. They should either be heavily fined or arrested

    September 28, 2011 at 11:12 pm |
  95. Hira

I think they shouldn't go to jail but they should pay a fine for impersonating on a test .Also they should have to take the test again.Depending on the way the people usually act in school they should get suspended for at least a month.I feel sorry for the guy who got bribed with thousands of dollars to do it,but he had a choice=[

They should pay a fine and be rejected from any college and atleast 2 months in jail

    Please Read!
First and fore most, the counselor and teacher should talk to the student, because the student wont even know that they need help themselves. The meeting would help the teacher understand more about the student's background, like what kind of family environment they come from. This helps determine how to help the student, rather than dolling out mindless punishments. We as a society, should lift and mentor each other, rather than condemning. Not every one comes from a caring background so one rule can't apply for all. "Hate the crime, not the criminal" sums up.

If a student is found guilty of cheating on a major exam, they should get a zero or "F" on the test because they deserve to fail. Students and adults should know cheating is bad. You learn that cheating is bad in pre-school. People who cheat will NEVER learn and will also never move on in life.

    September 29, 2011 at 12:05 am |
  100. Myranda

Cheating is wrong. From the smallest quiz to the SAT's. yet, I think the consequences should be determined by the school, and what they believe which actions are most appropriate.

    September 29, 2011 at 12:21 am |
  101. Kristin

I think that people caught cheating should be punished my getting a zero on their quiz and that they should redo the quiz early the next morning when no one else isn't in the room besides the teacher. Cheating isn't right and people who do it are people who probably will have a hard time succeeding in life.

    September 29, 2011 at 12:24 am |
  102. Sierra

If a student is found cheating on a major exam like the SAT; I think they shouldn't even be allowed to take it. Many students study hard for hours with hopes of passing the exam. Just because it's something like 'cheating', I don't think they should get away with it. Having criminal charges seems fitting.

    September 29, 2011 at 12:41 am |
  103. Robby

If they do cheat on the sat test why did they get arrested? They should not be put in jail they should suspended or expelled and do much charity work. But having some one impersonate them and do it expelled and much much much charity work.

  104. Kalena

I think that if a student is found guilty of cheating on a college entrance exam, there should be serious consequences. If i were the judge i would sentence him to about two weeks of jail time, and 500 hours of community service. Part of thier community service would be lecturing to high school students about the importance of not cheating.

    September 29, 2011 at 1:45 am |

i think they should have a 6 year penalty in jail

  106. Mylene & Kristie

Yes, cheating IS bad, especially since it's on the SAT test, but getting criminal charges is a little harsh even if you are in college. If a student is found guilty of cheating on a major exam, they should be expelled.

    September 29, 2011 at 4:06 am |
  107. laila

I think criminal charges for cheating is a little to harsh. Cheating is bad and should be disgeraged even though you might be in college just because you cheated one time I do not think it should mess up your permanent record and life because then some colleges won't want to take you . I think you should be expelled instead.

    September 29, 2011 at 4:10 am |
  108. Kathleen

I think that there should be severe consequences for students who cheat. The SAT tests are designed to demonstrate what each student knows. So if they have been accepted in prestigious schools, they should forfeit their acceptances. It is sad that these students are cheating their fellow students.

That's just sad that people chose to pay another student to take the SAT. I'd assume they could say goodbye to that school, and hello jail.

The people who did all that might have to pay a money or they might have a visit to jail, or their teacher will give them a F, make them lose a lot of letter grades, and suspension.

    September 29, 2011 at 6:22 am |

The other people who payed him shouldnt be a jail but if they are found guilty then they should get a less consequence than the one who did the test for the kids who payed him.

  115. Isabella

Cheating on a major exam is not only completely unfair to others, but also disrespectful to the people who made and put together the test. Students who get caught cheating on a major test – like the SAT – should have a heavy punishment to face. The idea is that heavier consequences help the offender to learn from his/her mistake. I think the way the students were punished was rightfully done, and that they should not get any credit for the test. I also think that people who cheat more than once should not get the chance to take the test again.

    September 29, 2011 at 7:52 am |

i think if caught cheeting they should have to retake whatever grade there in, even 12th. they have no right to cheat

    September 29, 2011 at 7:52 am |
  117. Mark

Cheating shouldnt be an alternative if you dont know the answer. Dont cheat yourself, youre better off giving all that you can rather than cheating on a test and struggle later on in college. Cheating should have zero tolerance.

    September 29, 2011 at 8:05 am |
  118. Emily

I think they should get in trouble like they been all a long, you should study for major test, and if you don't then it's your own fault, that you fail.

    September 29, 2011 at 8:06 am |
  119. Franklin

Capital punishment is what all cheaters deserve. Honestly, it should lower the rates of cheating drastically, and even reduce the amount of criminals coming out of school.

The fact that those students cant handle the pressure of taking the SAT shows that they are weak. Rice is right, they are mainly hurting those of us who arent weak and dont succumb to the pressure of everyday life. Because of their actions they will forever be known as the kids who cheated on the SAT. Theres a first for everything i guess.

  126. Kendall

Cheating in college is way worse than in high school. It's bad that he got paid to impersonate people because no amount of money is worth a criminal record. Also, its pretty dumb and pointless because those students, had they got away with it, would have had problems getting through the rest of college and life. They should have to start over in thier studies. But the boy should not get so many charges on him.

If we cheat at my high school there are consequences. The cheaters go to the office, and just depending on the intensity of the cheating they get punished. Sometimes suspension or they fail that test along with the other person who help cheat or was cheating.

    September 29, 2011 at 11:01 am |
  129. Oliver

If I were caught cheating on a major exam, I would expect to have the test graded as a zero. If in school, I believe that would give me a failing grade in that class. If the SAT or ACT, I would receive a zero in all subtests and not get a refund for the test.
If allowed to ever take the test again, I think I should be monitored closely and required to present excessive identification (for the SAT) and maybe a parent approval. This would also spoil any hopes I had of being trusted by school officials.
Colleges should know my history. I should own up about my mistake. But I shouldn't be forced to be honest. That choice should be left to me.

    September 29, 2011 at 11:02 am |
  130. Maddie

I think that cheating on the SAT's is a criminal offense. Punishment should be harsh, colleges now check everything before glancing at an application. If others follow the same way, college, highschool dropouts, and the economy will follow.

    September 29, 2011 at 11:03 am |
  131. Tanner

I think the kids that were paying for Sam Eshaghoff to take the test for them should be accused for more then they were. Everybody that cheated should not be allowed to go to the colleges they were accepted to. They shouldn't be allowed scholarships or any help to get into college.

    September 29, 2011 at 11:06 am |
  132. Valerie

Wow! That's very bad. I would say they shouldn't get into the college that already let them in. And, they fail the test.

Criminal charges will fit cheating on major exams. If you cheat on your mid-terms or finals, your classmates will be the ones affected. Cheating on major exams, like SAT, the impact will be broader. Universities and colleges are places that encourage independent thinking. I doubt that those people, who started by cheating, can fit in this kind of studying environment which they could not take advantage of others. They might then end up with more and more cheating behaviors. Therefore, it is better to teach them a lesson as early as possible.

    September 29, 2011 at 11:26 am |
  135. Katarina

i dont understand why someone would cheat on an SAT. First it ruins thier chances of getting into a good college and second, if they dont get into a good college, then they could end up working at a place that doesnt give a lot of pay. Now since this story was featured on CNN Student News, it must mean that a lot of people know about, so this will give then a bad reputation, where ever they go.

i disagree with the kids getting arrested because it doesnt state the consequence/laws for the SAT.On the test it self it just says rules..yes they broke the rule but they should not get arrested, they should be put on probation.

  146. D.J.

I believe cheating solves nothing because you don't learn anything from it. The purpose of cheating is to get the job done quickly and correctly. I would be in favor of a cheater going to George Baily for a month. I believe that is an effective way to rid the world of cheaters once and for all.

    September 29, 2011 at 11:39 am |

I think that they were well punished, if they were cheating on a test that major then they should have to retake the test. It was a stupid mistake on there part. They definitely should have known better then that.

    September 29, 2011 at 11:43 am |
  156. Abby

I think that the consequence for cheating on the SATs should't be as drastic as they're making it. I think that if someone is caught cheating they shouldn't be able to pass the year, they should have to repeat the year and the test. Not being charged with all the things that he is being charged with.

    September 29, 2011 at 11:44 am |
  157. Talya

I think that jail is a bit much for cheating on an exam, no matter how big, but I do think that they shouldn't be accepted into any colleges. If someone did manage to cheat on the SAT's, it would come back to haunt them when they get into college because they wouldn't know half of the things that they should.

    September 29, 2011 at 11:44 am |

I think that the person who was caught cheating should not be able to finnish the exam. I do not think they should be arrested, that is a little harsh.

    September 29, 2011 at 11:45 am |
  160. Meghan

I think that they shouldn't make his consequence have anything to do with the police. People cheat every day, he made a mistake, everyone makes mistakes. Give him a zero on his SAT's and make him do summer school, or retake the course or something. I think that they should not have make it an illegal matter.

    September 29, 2011 at 11:45 am |
  161. Nicole

The SAT's are really important, I think I agree with the actions that were taken here. The only thing I would change is that all of them should have the same punishment. The guy who actually took the tests for them was punished more harshly for some reason. Colleges should and probably will take this very seriously. I would not accept a student who either hired someone of was hired to take the SAT's.

    September 29, 2011 at 11:45 am |
  162. ivan

I am glad to see that the police are making a big deal about SAT cheating. It is a problem we need to address.

    September 29, 2011 at 11:46 am |
  163. Lily

Cheating is horrendously stupid. Especially on something as big as your SATs. However, I don't think that police should go as far as arresting someone for cheating on their tests. They should be expelled, and every college they applied for should be notified, as well as their parents(obviously) and the teachers that they'll have for the rest of high school. They should have to re-do the year of school, or at least the last trimester.

    September 29, 2011 at 11:48 am |
  164. Donovan

I think that the because of the money involved on the scandals, the consequences given to the teens are the correct ones. If they were to get away with it, the colleges that the teens were going to attend wouldn't probably be accepting the right kids.

    September 29, 2011 at 11:49 am |
  165. Lucien

I think that the consequences that they had for the kids who cheated were too harsh. They defiantly should have some consequences but it should not be a crime. I think that they should have just gave them zero's and not let them take it again.

  166. isabellee

As a freshmen and new to high school i don't know much about SAT's just yet. But i do know that people should take them more seriously then they do now. I think that the police should be involved because its a serious matter. In my school they would get a zero and possibly even stay back a grade..
come on students, you can do it yourself! you didnt spend the last 12 years in school to throw it away because of cheating!
    thanks CNN!!

I think that cheating is wrong and a consequence is going to jail don’t cheat because you make yourself look stupid and think of all the other people that did study and did work hard.

    September 29, 2011 at 11:49 am |
  168. Joel

I think they should go to jail for a couple of months and make them retake the test in a room with cameras so then they can tell if there cheating or not. If they do cheat a second time then they should have to stick with a really bad score.

    September 29, 2011 at 11:50 am |

I think cheating is bad. You take the credit for someone else’s hard work, which isn’t right. That’s using their work to get yourself a better grade.

  174. Robert

I think that cheating is disrespectful to the people who actually worked hard to get the job done right. Thursdays CNN Student News the man let people pay him to go in and take the SIT test for them, when really is it worth it? Getting into college is a gift, but it can be real torture staying in school when you don’t know a thing that they are talking about, teaching, or giving homework on. They give those tests for a reason, to see if the student can make it through college with the basic college curriculum.

    September 29, 2011 at 11:51 am |
  175. cody

I think cheating is wrong and you should not do it. If you cheat like those kids did then you don’t have as good of a chance to get to a good college. If you do cheat then you are obviously too stupid to take a test. It might even help to study.

    September 29, 2011 at 11:51 am |

Cheating doesn’t hurt you as much as it hurts your fellow students. I one of your fellow students is caught cheating then it doesn’t help you one bit. Cheating on math homework is terrible; cheating on a major exam like the SAT or the state exams is a horrific crime. I think that he should be punished more than the students who hired him to do it, because he didn’t have to do it.

    September 29, 2011 at 11:52 am |
  179. Heather

I think if a student was caught cheating and found guilty they should be punished somehow that the police handle it. Also not be able to not go to that college that they wanted to in the first place.

  180. Dakota

I think that cheating on the SAT is horrible, I mean come on your putting your whole life on the line practically, if you get caught. And for those kids who cheated I think that there colleges should kick them out because they don’t deserve to be in that college. I think kids should work for what they want in life, without short cuts and cheating.

    September 29, 2011 at 11:53 am |

Cheating is not the way to go on the biggest test in the world! You can’t cheat off of someone and think you’re going to get away with it!

    September 29, 2011 at 11:53 am |
  183. Ally

I think you should take a test like that on your own because you never know, you could do better than you expect. If you have someone else take your test for you and you get into a college, then you won’t be as successful in your life. Why would you put yourself in that situation?

    September 29, 2011 at 11:53 am |
  184. Nicholas

I think those punishments are really harsh. I think the school should not let the cheaters go to the college of their chose.

    September 29, 2011 at 11:53 am |
  185. Alexis

I think that the people who cheat on that test are just too lazy to do their work on their own. Almost everyone has cheated on a test before but with the SAT I don’t think anyone should cheat on that test because it’s for what college you’ll be going to and how it will affect your life after college. The punishments should be that they shouldn’t be able to go to any college. That’s what I think.

    September 29, 2011 at 11:54 am |
  186. Zoe

I think you should never cheat on the ACT or SAT because those two tests can determine your future. If you get caught, you could never get into big colleges. If you never take your tests on your own, you will never learn anything. If the person is so smart that he takes the test for everyone, why would he choose to cheat and ruin his future? If you’re smart enough, you wouldn’t need that extra money to live a successful life. You would make it off of your own academic scholarships.

Many people think that cheating is a bad thing including me. It is not fair for lazy people to copy the work of a student who work hard for their grade. The kids who get cheated off of are students that study every night and do the best they can to make good grades on home work and tests. Their hard work should not be shared with a student who is too lazy to do his own work. Cheating needs to be taken more seriously in elementary, middle, and high schools.

The SAT is a huge exam that tells potential colleges your skills, and if someone cheats on the SAT and gets into a high-ranked college like Yale or Princeton, that will be a guilt that they'll have to live with forever. I think if someone cheats on such a big test, they should be punished with a few days in jail, maybe. Just to teach them a lesson.

I think that they should be punished. I mean they just lied about their eduaction. Now the colleges that they might of applied for, may not know what this kid acctully may know.

I think cheating is a bad thing to do but I don’t think that if you cheat that it should be a really big crime. It is kind of dumb that people get arrested for something as little as cheating. They should be focusing on the people that do really big crimes it’s only going to hurt the people that are cheating it’s not like hurting us that other people are cheating.

I think if student is found cheating on an exam the teacher could do something so they can get embarrass in front of the class and in front of the school. also the could change his test and have to do it in a room alone just with a teacher and him no other student.

i think that if he was found cheating on a test he should not deserv the grade he got and also doing servis around the school like helping teachers or who ever needs help and to retake that grade again.

if you cheat on somthing like the SAT test then just accept that you are going to a lower class college and get over it . You can't just cheat and get away with it, without having the risk of geting arrested. Thank you for listening to my opin

He shouldn't be accepted at any college and the students who paid him to take the test shouldn't be allowed to retake the test until next year.

I think that the concequences should be that they go to jail and learn their wrongs to rights because, if they get away with cheating then they could ruin someone else's chance of wanting to go to the school they choose. But i think that when they get out of jail they should have to go to a commutity college for as many years as the govener or president wants them to.

    September 29, 2011 at 12:07 pm |
  201. dan

If u cheat you should not be kicked out of college. You should just have to take a more advanced tests to get in, and only get a small amount of time on the test. Or, have to pay more to get in or stay in.

Cheating is bad!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Students who cheat on the SAT tests and get into a good college is unfair to the kids that tried hard to get a good score on their SAT.

    September 29, 2011 at 12:45 pm |
  206. Andrew

I think that these students made a terrible decision to cheat on the SAT. This will stay with them for the rest of their lives and it could limit the jobs they are able to get in the future. The consequences are appropriate and I hope that this serves as a warning for others.

    September 29, 2011 at 12:45 pm |
  207. Rudy

They shouldn't be allowed to go to college and it should be on their criminal record so when they put in a application for a job they will have to put that they cheated to get into a college.

    September 29, 2011 at 12:46 pm |
  209. Maddie

Wow! First of all cheating is just wrong. I think that if the people that cheated are proven guilty they should not be accepted to any colleges. If they had already been accepted to a college then they should be unexpected to the college.

  210. allison

I don’t believe anyone should cheat, especially on their SAT. If they were willing to pay thousands of dollars for someone to take their test for them than they must not have payed attention in school. I think there should be a punishment for anyone who does that but only if you’re certain that they truly committed the crime.

    September 29, 2011 at 12:47 pm |
  211. Amy

they should b fined for the money from the SAT test and the problems it has caused
leave it on their permenant record
they should also disregard their score and re-take the SAT with ample proof of ID and only use the second score for college applications
    ~Thanks

    September 29, 2011 at 12:47 pm |
  212. Marisa

Cheating on a test like that is like lying to someone’s face. It is wrong on so many levels. If the people are found guilty they should face a big punishment for lying to the school. Cheating is not worth it. It only gets you and other people in trouble. It is just not right.

    September 29, 2011 at 12:47 pm |
  213. Jessi

Cheating is not a good way to get into a college. Especially on a SAT test. If the students who were cheating are found guilty and are already accepted into a college, I would not let them come into that college. They should be punished because they could be charged with criminal charges.

    September 29, 2011 at 12:47 pm |
  214. Jaxon

I think cheating is ridiculous for many reasons. Some of which are in your future. When you use someone else’s work as your own or they work for you it will affect your future in a negative way. When you get older you will have to use the information you cheated on and you won’t understand how to even do your own job. This is why cheating is preposterous to even think about doing.

    September 29, 2011 at 12:48 pm |
  215. Ben

Cheating is bad. It is a dirty thing to do. You should never do it. It is for tubby, lameb people. They should get kicked out of the college.

    September 29, 2011 at 12:48 pm |
  216. Hannah

Cheating is bad and you should punish them, but don’t you think those charges are a little intense? I think you should make the kids retake the test and expel them not send them to jail. They hurt themselves more that they hurt others.

You should get the test taken away and get a zero resulting in an F. But if you're having help you should get help from the teacher not another student because teachers always think your cheating when another student.

    September 29, 2011 at 12:49 pm |
  219. Donte

I think that they should not get in trouble because they were nervous about the test that’s why they cheated. I blame the school because they didn’t know how to take it so I think they should not get in trouble bad they should get tickets. I think they should have to take the test over again and the school should make them take it in different rooms. I do think the guy who took the test for them should get in trouble.

    September 29, 2011 at 12:49 pm |
  220. Guy

I feel they should retake the test. Cheating is bad. They will not pass test becase they're stoopid and dumb. Their parents did not teach them well.

  221. kelby

I think that it is a bad to cheat. and the dicipline should be you have to go to jail for 6 months, take the test again, and you have to make above a 80.

  222. Caleb

I don’t think he should be accepted in to a good college because he cheated.

    September 29, 2011 at 12:52 pm |
  223. Kaylee

Cheating is wrong and when you do it, you only are hurting yourself. If you cheat there should be consequences. I don’t think you should send him to jail I would just give him a 0% on the paper he cheated on and make him retake it and then all the colleges will know and probably will not let him in for cheating. Cheating can affect a big part in your life and 90% of the time you will get caught.

    September 29, 2011 at 12:52 pm |
  224. Zack

Cheating is wrong it proves nothing about you its shows how stubborn you are for not paying attention. It also shows that you’ll do anything to get a passing grade even if it means having an imposter. I don’t think it would be fair for other people to copy off the people that do all of the work and just be lazy.

    September 29, 2011 at 12:52 pm |
  225. hailee

i think cheating is not good gor you becasue if you are always copying and cheating then you wont kow the lesson when you really get to a test or a job you will have no one to go off of or to show you what do to do all the time so you should learn how to do most thing your self

    September 29, 2011 at 12:53 pm |
  226. Marissa

I think Cheating is a horrible way to get a good grade. It doesn’t help you in your life now and your future life later on, its also wrong for the other person to give or recive answers during an assimenght. Students will regret cheating when they find out the other persons answers are wrong.

    September 29, 2011 at 12:53 pm |
  227. Jahna

Students need to understand that they can't get away with that kind of thing and they need to be punished for cheating. Besides, really all they're doing is hurting themselves because you will never gain any knowledge by copying answers down from the person sitting next you. I think they should be able to re-take the test in an isolated room but get half the credit.

    September 29, 2011 at 12:53 pm |
  228. Jamar

You should be suspended and have to pay a fine and be no longer allowed to attend college. Cheaters never win. Cheating is bad. Period.

  229. Jacob

If he isn't already in it, he shouldnt be able to go to college. And I also think that the thousands of dollars the kids payed him, should go back to the familie's of the kids who payed him.

I think they should be equally punished and be put in jail for 3 or 4 months.....

    September 29, 2011 at 12:54 pm |
  233. Krimsen

Cheating is wrong. I believe they all should be punished equally because they were all involved equally. There are consequences for every action you make in life. I think that people are not thinking when they decide to cheat; they should have studied for their own tests and not paid people to cheat for them. Cheating hurts everybody that studied for that test. It hurts especially you when you get caught. My opinion is just don’t cheat!

    September 29, 2011 at 12:54 pm |
  234. Joe

They really should send them to jail because they made the choice to do the wrong thing by cheating. It is their own fault. Since they committed to taking it, they should be punished.

    September 29, 2011 at 12:55 pm |
  235. Kelsey

I think they should take the guy, and the people who gave him $1,000 Dollars to jail for cheating on the SAT's. Plus, if we get cought cheating in my Middle School, we get a 0 on the test, sometimes a write up or a suspension from school if it is a BIG test.

i think that they should be arrested because its an important test and if they cheat on it they wouldnt get the grade the deserve and they would be in a college they really shouldnt be in

    September 29, 2011 at 12:57 pm |
  239. Dani

i think they deserved what they got as punishments! if you cheat you should get a punishment! for all those people who tried their best and you didn't? how fair is that!

  240. Landon

I think he should go to jail

    September 29, 2011 at 12:58 pm |

what they should do to the students that cheated on the test is to expel the students and flunk them. and also they should send the students to jail. since they choose to do the wrong thing.and also put the adult that they hired in jail.

    September 29, 2011 at 12:58 pm |
  242. DAISY

what i think is that they should get expelled and not get graded on the test. And go to jail. at least for a week or so. so they can learn there lesson.

    September 29, 2011 at 12:59 pm |
  243. john

I think that he schould go to jail for a few years.

    September 29, 2011 at 12:59 pm |

I think that all the students should be sentanced to 10+ years in prison to hopefully learn their lesson. You do the crime, you pay the time. This incident should prove to others that cheating on a test is a very serious matter. To all you students out there: Never cheat on a test, unless you want to end up like these students.

    September 29, 2011 at 1:02 pm |

put them in jail every last one of them

    September 29, 2011 at 1:03 pm |

I think he should pay the thousands of dollars back to the families of the kids who payed him to take the test for them. I also think he should not be admitted into any colleges in the U.S.

    September 29, 2011 at 1:03 pm |
  249. vanessa

I thunk it is bad because you will get in big trouble and just try to study and not cheat be good !!!!!

    September 29, 2011 at 1:04 pm |
  250. Juan

I think the guys who committed the crimes should all be sentenced to a jail for a reasonable amount of time. Cheating is very disrespectful to others.

    September 29, 2011 at 1:04 pm |
  251. Cameron

I think that jail is too harsh of sentence for them. They should get a fine at least as high as the price they paid to cheat. Now that the college he was trying to get in knows he TRIED to cheat on his test could be a big enough punishment.

    September 29, 2011 at 1:04 pm |
  252. demetrius

they should be charge with criminal actions and put to prison for couple of years for something like that they almost ruing someone's life for doing that and the kids should face misdemeanor for that too and maybe put to the hall for a lil bit and wait 2 years for there next test thats my saying

    September 29, 2011 at 1:07 pm |
  253. laura!

cheating isnt good you can get into big trouble for it. you could probally go to jail for it.

    September 29, 2011 at 1:07 pm |
  254. destiney

I think that all the people that were involved should be punished and fairly.I don't quite think thats it's fair for the guy who did the work to be punished more because for a first isn't the other kids the ones that hired or paid him to do it.I also dont think that they should go to jail but I geuss that a year or two wouldn't be so bad.For the most I recommend probation and for all the people that paid that guy to take the test to have to retake it under close survalliance. For the most you shouldn't do that stuff its bad and not right. In the end it doesn't benefit them and it wouldn't help them in college or there future at all.

    September 29, 2011 at 1:08 pm |
  255. AJ

Frist I have to say that was a stupid dision and if it were to be a small test they shoud just get a suspension for 2 to 5 days, but sence it is a major test they should go to jail, but not take away there education, Obama wants us to go to collage and stay in school for as long as we can

    September 29, 2011 at 1:09 pm |
  256. bob

S.A.T's are a huge part of going to college. They should be treated with respect as an important part of your life. So if found cheating on them, they punishment should not be too severe. they should be tested again the following year under supervision.

    September 29, 2011 at 1:15 pm |
  257. Shianne

I think the students should have to retake their SATs and reapply to their colleges.

    September 29, 2011 at 1:18 pm |

If you were to cheat on a SAT you should get in a lot of trouble, but this boy cheated on a bunch of tests for a while he should be suspended.

I feel they should get zeroes but not criminal offenses.

    September 29, 2011 at 1:19 pm |
  261. Ciara

He should go to jail for a short amount of time. The SAT's are a very serious exam in New York and he should be punished. That was wrong for him to do that.

    September 29, 2011 at 1:20 pm |
  262. Zack

The kid should have to pay the money back to the kids who paid him and the kids should not be allowed into the college they applied to

    September 29, 2011 at 1:20 pm |
  263. ChelseaB

In my opinion, the students shouldn't be banned from getting into a college that they are already accepted to. However, I feel like they should have to reapply for the college and also retake their SAT's/ACT's. When they retake the test they also should have to take it under certain circumstances. They should have to be watched while they are taking it. No one should get away with cheating.

    September 29, 2011 at 1:20 pm |
  264. Mew.

I think that the students should all get in trouble, but no crimial charges. Yes they did cheat, but they are teenagers and everyone does stupid things. I do not think the colleges should judge on that though. But the students who payed should still get the same punishment.

    September 29, 2011 at 1:22 pm |
  265. Shannon

I dont think this is okay, like cheating is bad and all but there over doing it with the whole criminal charges and other charges..just rip up his test and leave it at that, he'll learn his lesson once it gets shredded infront of him, if he is going down with this then the people that hired him to do this CRIME should get the same sentence as well.

    September 29, 2011 at 1:22 pm |

I completely agree with the actions taken against these students. I work hard for my grades and i am working harder to do well on the SAT. if they get a good grade because they seem to think they deserve to be handed over a scholarship to a prestigious school then they are in for a rude awakening and deserve this chance to think about what they did. They also should be denied entry to any school they were accepted to and have to re-apply with a new resume that states what they have done.

    September 29, 2011 at 1:23 pm |
  268. Brandon

i think that everyone involved is subject to punishment. i do not think that they should be expelled or prevented to go to college. they should have to reaply with updated sat scores from the sat's that they have taken

    September 29, 2011 at 1:24 pm |
  269. OliviaF

Personally, I think whatever colleges these students were accepted to should revoke their acceptance, and have them retake the SAT, at least. I wouldn't be surprised if any colleges accepted these kids after this scandal. A criminal punishment may sound ideal, but if you ask me these kids are being punished enough by having pretty much any chance at a successful future taken away from them. Not saying they don't deserve it, but I think that's a sufficient punishment for what they've done.

I think that the students shouldnt get charges but they should definantly not have a chance to retake the SAT. They could cheat again and shouldnt have the chance to retake the exam. They should also have to pay back the people that they took the SAT's for. Everyone should have the same charges. They were all involved

    September 29, 2011 at 1:28 pm |
  273. Savanna

I don't think they should get into the collage and they all should get the same amount of punishment. :/

  274. Autumn

If you cheat, you should get expelled.

    September 29, 2011 at 1:34 pm |
  275. Monique:)

I feel if a student is caught cheating on a major exam like the ACT/SAT they should be criminally charged. Also possibly have some time of suspension and jail time. Anyone who is involved with the cheating should get the same charge as the person who got caught, they’re the ones taking the test for you therefore you should be charged the same for not being responsible enough to take it yourself. If you are going to be stupid enough to take the test for someone or have someone take it for you, then you should not be a loud to take the test at all or get into any of the colleges you applied for.

    September 29, 2011 at 1:35 pm |
  276. Marissa

I think it's bad to do that and, they should go to Jail. They should also get held back.

  277. Amber

If we cheat at my high school there are consequences. The cheaters go to the office, and just depending on the intensity of the cheating they get punished. Sometimes suspension or they fail that test along with the other person who help cheat or was cheating.

i think he should go to jail the perso helping him cheat may just guess so he wont get a good grade and not get into the college he wants.also if the dude does get all the questins right then when he gets to college they will kick him out for lying and not making good grades.

    September 29, 2011 at 1:43 pm |

It is wrong to cheat and u need to depend on yourself and not for anybody else. You need to beleive in yourself try your hardest at everything u do.Not cheat, make good grades, annd stay in school.

He should be thrown in jail and be forced to give the money back but the students that payed him should be thrown out of the school they are currently in. Its not right to cheat because you might be expected to do somethingk you really cant do. JUST ALWAYS DO YOUR BEST and DO NOT EVER CHEAT!!!!!!!!!

I think he should go to prison because he cheated.
I think that cheating on the SAT's is a criminal offense also the person that someone is paying them to take the test also sould go to prison for it. It would be really hard for the person in life when they are lookin for a job. They should not pay someone to take the test for them.

    September 29, 2011 at 1:47 pm |
  283. mike

I think the guys who got that other guy to cheat for them should be counted guilty. I think they should be sent to some sort of institute. They shouldn't be kicked out of their college but they should be suspended for a few months. But I think the guy who did the major cheating should absolutly be kicked out of college.

    September 29, 2011 at 1:48 pm |
  284. casey

I think everyone that play a role in this should be punished equally for the crime. The people who are hiring the other kid to cheat should have the same sentence which should be 15+ mounths.

    September 29, 2011 at 1:50 pm |
  285. john

he should get put in jail for life

    September 29, 2011 at 1:50 pm |
  286. Christopher

I think he should go to jail for 60 to 65 years and the others should go to prison for 5 to 10 years

    September 29, 2011 at 1:51 pm |
  287. Ethan

I think cheating is very bad you should do your best with your own knowledge.

    September 29, 2011 at 1:53 pm |
  288. Morgan

Some one who cheats on something like the SAT shouldn't be ARRESTED. But they should get HUGE consequences

    September 29, 2011 at 1:53 pm |
  289. Kali

I think all the people that participated n the cheating should get the same punishment, not to be accepted to the college they applied to and to have to pay the full cost when they do get accepted to a college. Also, they should all have to retake the test, but still be given a zero no matter what score they actually make. Cheating is very wrong, especially on something as big as the SAT's!

    September 29, 2011 at 1:53 pm |
  290. austin

i believe the one who impersonated the people should be punished
    with a jail sentence

    September 29, 2011 at 1:53 pm |
  291. Tyler

I think if someone cheats on the SAT that they shouldn't have huge consequences, just a failed SAT and lose a scholarship if they had one. I don't think if you cheat you should be sent to jail. That's too serious for cheating.

    September 29, 2011 at 1:53 pm |
  292. Metana

I Don't Think They Should Get In A Lot Of Trouble Because I Mean They Were Being Bribed With Money And Alot Of People Do Anything For Money. They Should Atleast Keep The Charges On Them And Go To Jail For Atleast 1 Year. But Thats My Opinion. Those Kids Should Have Took The Test There Selves. Every Kid Is Capable Of Taking A Test. They Still Shouldn't Of Cheated On A Big Exam Like That. If They Wouldn't Of Cheated They Would Not Be Facing These Consiquences. Cheating Is Not Worth Getting In Serious Trouble And Facing Prison Or Jail..

    September 29, 2011 at 1:54 pm |
  293. Kalob

I think the should not go to the college because the have cheated once and they could have done it before and the shoulden get in that much trouble because cheating aint that big of a deal even though the should serve a week or two for cheating.

    September 29, 2011 at 1:54 pm |
  294. kristi

he sould go to jail and take the test over and not cheat and sould not be accepted at any college and haveto go to probation.

    September 29, 2011 at 1:54 pm |
  295. Emily

I think cheating is wrong, and the people who cheat should have common sense and think about the reprocussions.

    September 29, 2011 at 1:54 pm |
  296. Bailey

I think its amazing that they tried to even do that. Sure its easy in middle school and high school but this is a major test! i think they should go to jail because of there idiot ideas.

    September 29, 2011 at 1:54 pm |
  297. Rebecca

I think that what they did was wrong and they should not get into the collage they wanted and shouled be fined

    September 29, 2011 at 1:55 pm |
  298. casey

I think for everyone who played role in this should be punished equally for the crime. For the people who are hiring the other kid to cheat should have the same sentence which should be 15+ months.

  299. chyenne

i think the dude that took the test for the other kids should have to stay in jail because he should've knew better than to do that because he could get kicked out of the collage he was in. He should've let those kids do the test their self to help them learn and to try to get in to the collage their self.

    September 29, 2011 at 1:55 pm |
  300. Josie

I think that cheating is wrong , even though sometimes I even cheat. but paying somone to do your SAT is very wrong. But you shouldn't get arrested for it. None of us should ever cheat, because it doesnt do any good for you or your grades.

    September 29, 2011 at 1:55 pm |
  301. Alex

I think cheating on these tests is completely wrong. He shouldn’t get away with this, nor should anyone else involved. He should have to retake the test and return the money to people who paid him.

    September 29, 2011 at 1:56 pm |
  302. Ricky

Its a horrible thing its just that its hard not to when you are surrounded by other people that are tring to do it so it is right to give consequenses to people who do it. No offense people out there that cheat on tests but just dont do it. :( But prople who dont keep not doing it! :D

    September 29, 2011 at 1:56 pm |
  303. Bennett

i think that you should get a zero, but a teacher can make a mistake and think your cheating when your not.

    September 29, 2011 at 1:56 pm |
  304. Raivis

Well, since they did get caught, they should make them take the test again. Don't bring them to jail because everyone cheats one time or another. And since they did cheat then that means they really don't know very much. So, make them take the test, and watch them fail. Failing is just as worse as jail.

    September 29, 2011 at 1:56 pm |
  305. Vickytoria

I think that student who cheat aren't only hurting others, but they're also hurting themselves. They should repeat their grade and take the test again, but this time without cheating. They should also pay a fee because the test cost money to make, and they wasted it by cheating.

    September 29, 2011 at 1:57 pm |
  306. Matthew

Cheating can be a avery bad thing and it's wrong but what here what just gone on the sentences they had... Thats just not right we are civilized people and there punishment was to harsh they did cheat and all but going to jail how about having a patrol officer and like a week in jaial etc and also the people who did the test for them there getting a punishment wheen theye basicly did nothing wrong somthing needs to change the world is changing around us and punishments are to harsh. Like if ssomone is seen with a low amout of drugs the cops let them go with a misterminer and thats just wrong. What happend to the old world? Why is everything changing...

    September 29, 2011 at 1:57 pm |
  307. Madison

I think cheating is wrong because u can get in trouble for cheating off of your friends paper.

    September 29, 2011 at 1:57 pm |
  308. Alexis

I believe that these people who cheated should be announced to the colleges. The colleges who have accepted these students should be able to reject these students from coming to that college. The students should also never be allowed to take a test with the rest of the students. Also, the person who cheated for these students, should be thrown in the slammer or given a huge fine for each student he helped. The students should also be fined.

    September 29, 2011 at 1:57 pm |
  309. DJ

Well, I know cheating isn't allowed, But I would recomend that the appropriate punishment would be at least banned from going to College, and put them in jail for about a year, or less. If not, they should be HomeSchooled, and then at least the parents would have the right to deside the appropriate punishment if they were to cheat.(If there is even a way to cheat at home.)

  310. annalisa

I think that people these days do not think of the consequences anymore. Trust me I know! It takes one thought or idea to come up with an action. And one action to make a mistake. Yes everyone makes mistakes. But if you are welling to do the crime you are willing to do the time. That goes out to the world. There is no excuse for making your own choices because you choose it not your mom, dad, sister, or brother. YOU DID IT!!

I think that cheating is completly wrong what is going on in his head? Your not suppost to cheat and you are defanitly not allowd to cheat on the SAT's!!!!!! That guy should get kicked out of that college.......

    September 29, 2011 at 2:01 pm |

I think that if he was found cheating on that test or Any test he should not deserve the grade. Lazy people shouldnt be able to copy the work of a student who work hard for their grade. Every action has a Re-action.

    September 29, 2011 at 2:02 pm |
  319. benjamin

in my opinion, he shouldnt get arrested for cheating. no matter how big test is. i think when he applies for a college, he should put that on his transcript. so every college knows he cheated on it. less likely to get into a good college

    September 29, 2011 at 2:03 pm |
  320. Noah

it's wrong to cheat. If he didn't take the money non of this would of happened. Cheaters always get caught.

    September 29, 2011 at 2:04 pm |
  323. katelyn

i think that if they can do the crime they should do the time. it is unfair to use the excuse when you chose what you wanted to do. not anyone else its all on you. so make the correct choices everyone. one mistake can ruin your whole life trust me i know!

    September 29, 2011 at 2:05 pm |
  324. Mason

We think both parties are wrong for the crime they committed (both the person who accepted the money and the person who gave the money allowing the other person to cheat for them). Both groups know right from wrong and should be punished. They should be given a fine. They should be required to retake the test so that it is clear on the score they are achieving. They should be watched extra carefully in college to be sure a problem does not occur like this again. Not allowing them to go to college would do society no good.

    September 29, 2011 at 2:13 pm |
  325. Andres

everyone who was involved shold go to jail because everyone must be punished equally.

    September 29, 2011 at 2:17 pm |

I think that cheating should be punished by a very short time in prison and a setback in school.

    September 29, 2011 at 2:23 pm |

you should suffer some kind of consequences for cheating, but to go to jail for cheating is taking it to another level.

These students were liars and cheaters and you know where they go....juvie (juvenile detention center).

I think that the kid should be guilty and not go to a college because of the cheating scandal..

    September 29, 2011 at 3:11 pm |
  332. christina

I think that they should not be able to go to college for a certain amount of time. what they did was disappointing because it does help them to go anywhere in life.

    September 29, 2011 at 3:12 pm |
  333. Kristin

Honestly, i think the consequences that there giving those kids are a little too strong. the charges are acceptable but the fact that they not be able to go in any collage is a little too harsh. Everyone deserves a 2nd chance. Most of us look forward just to get into collage .. So i say let retake there SAT's again and what they get is what they get .

    September 29, 2011 at 3:12 pm |
  334. Jaseanna

I think that students should get a card or a point, well at my school if u get in trouble you get a infraction which is a point. But if they do it all the time there should be something done about it like send them to the princpal or call there parents well thas what i would do if i was a teacher

    September 29, 2011 at 3:13 pm |
  335. Yariah

The person caught cheating should get suspended. If they were already admitted into a college they should not be able to get into that college anymore because you don't know if they will cheat again.

    September 29, 2011 at 3:13 pm |
  336. Kayla's class

Kids found cheating should have to retake the test. If they cheat on the SATs, colleges should be notified, and the students shouldn't be accepted. These students should also have to pay a fine.
Kids found cheating on tests in school should be sent to the office and should have to call their parents. They should receive a zero on the test and even be suspended for a week with school work to do.

    September 29, 2011 at 4:50 pm |
  337. Johanna

i think that if he was willing to take the money and take the tests for them i think that he is willingly capible of the punishment he deserves
but i dont think that jail time is going to teach him anything

    September 29, 2011 at 5:02 pm |
  338. Emma

I think that they should be severely, but equally, punished. The SAT is a major test, so cheating on it should get major consequences. I think though, that the six other people should have just as many fines as the other boy.

    September 29, 2011 at 5:06 pm |
  339. Meggerts

I think students who cheat should be up for any kind of consequences, considering what they do. But they should know better by that age...

    September 29, 2011 at 5:07 pm |
  340. Allison & Sydney

Cheating on any test is wrong ESPECIALLY the SAT!
We think they should be seriously punished

    September 29, 2011 at 5:07 pm |
  341. Mariah

I think that if a student he/she should be sent to jail or at least community sevice and they should not be able to go to any college in there state but in another state because they might try to cheat again.

    September 29, 2011 at 5:07 pm |
  342. Logan

I believe that they should be allowed to stay in college. However, have it known (on his or her resume, for example) that this person is a cheater. Employers would be much less likely to hire such a person, which is punishment enough.

    September 29, 2011 at 5:07 pm |
  343. Nolan

Yes students should be arrested for cheating on the SATs because it is not fair to studying students that have worked hard to get good grades. Also at their age it seems like they should no better then to disobey the law and others could follow them and if justices does not place it's hands on them to show an example.

    September 29, 2011 at 5:08 pm |
  344. Emma

Cheating is like taking someones work, which is there pride possession.
The consequence deepens on if it was a serious test like the SAT's. The
people who cheated should talk to the teacher or someone who can tell the kids why it is bad to cheat. Also should help the parents of the kids, also find how to help.
I think the consequence should be productive, and helps the kids learn.

    September 29, 2011 at 5:10 pm |
  345. Charlie

I think they should be kicked out of the collage they are currently in.

    September 29, 2011 at 5:10 pm |
  346. Zhaquise

I think that it was a very harsh thing to do to such a good kid and also I don't see why people would want to do that. I hope that the bully feels sorry for that kid that commited suicide.

    September 29, 2011 at 5:12 pm |
  347. Dylan

I think cheating is bad and you should not do it and people how do should have bad consequences for doing it.

    September 29, 2011 at 5:13 pm |
  348. Micah

Well,in a situation of cheating everyone is at fault somehow. If they are foung guilty i think that depending on the severity of their act of cheating, they should be treated(even if it is the person who let the other person cheat) as the cheater. I think that they should have to repeat that whole year of High School and have to apply to a different College than the one they applied to when they cheated. That is, if their perminent record isn't already ruined enough.

    September 29, 2011 at 5:14 pm |

i think that if they cheat now on a test then why wouldnt they on a collge test s o the should not be able to go to the collge the wanted to go

    September 29, 2011 at 5:14 pm |
  350. Grace

I think that the student who cheated should receive an automatic zero no matter what it was, a worksheet, a test, or a project. The student who cheated doesn't deserve a good grade anyways since they cheated. If I were in their place I would learn from my mistakes because of the bad grade I got. Therefore if the student got a bad grade, a 0, then they might learn from their mistakes.

    September 29, 2011 at 5:15 pm |
  351. Austin

Well i believe that cheating is a big deal and whoever does get caught cheating on a big exam should have major consiquence. like alot of jail time. Well stay sweet carl and remember im a cool dude and listen to pink floyd

    September 29, 2011 at 5:16 pm |
  352. jordan

i think this is funny that someone would be dumb enough to get caught cheeting on this, i believe cheeting is ok only if your good at it and dont get caught, these guys must of had some kind of disabilities to pay someone thousands of dollars to cheat on a test, the key of cheating is IS NOT GETTING CAUGHT. they obviously deserve a consoquence of learning how to acualy cheet GOSH!!!!!!!!!!!

    September 29, 2011 at 5:17 pm |
  353. Katie

I think that the person should get in trouble. For example if it was a spelling test then they should get a zero and a detention, but like on a SAT they should get kicked out of the college and maybe some jail time.

    September 29, 2011 at 5:18 pm |
  354. Dylan

cheating on a exam this big should cost them some time but i think the kids who had him cheat on the exam should do time also. my Advice, DONT CHEAT!

In my opion, i think that if the person who does the cheating on the SAT's should be punished! Also the memebers who payed them to do it! Its not right for this kid to take all the blame the reason he did it is because the people who asked him too do it!

    September 29, 2011 at 5:19 pm |
  357. Marissa

I Think if it's a major tes like the SAT's the person who cheated should be counted guilty for everything! But if its a minor test then maybe they should just get a dentention or a F.

    September 29, 2011 at 5:19 pm |
  358. Andrew

You should not be accepted into that school if you are willing to risk your education to cheat or pay someone to cheat for you. You should be criminaly charged if you paid someone to cheat or cheated yourself on a major test like the SATs. The person who made all the money cheating for the people should also be charged.

    September 29, 2011 at 5:19 pm |
  359. carl

They should have to pay a fine or go to jail.

    September 29, 2011 at 5:20 pm |
  360. ashley

these students should definitely be punished for what they did. That is just wrong who would do this. It just shows you how bad things are getting now

    September 29, 2011 at 5:21 pm |
  361. Brandon

I think that it is super bad you will go to jail big time so dont do it PERIOD.

    September 29, 2011 at 5:23 pm |
  362. Shelby

If a person cheats or pays to have someone cheat for them on a major exam like the SATs they should be punished. It is a criminal act to cheat,on anything including a test.Everyone involved should be arrested and sent to jail for an alotted amount of time required by the law. Some people might feel that the people who paid to have someone cheat for them should be punished less severlyRegardless hecated or if someone else cheated for them ..they paid to have a man inpersonate them to get a better score on a test. And if they didn't get caught what would they do in college when no one will cheat for them and they are not smart enough to do the work themselves.

    September 29, 2011 at 5:23 pm |
  363. Kendra

I think that the students that cheated should have to re-take the SATs. And that if any college excepted them then they should decline their excaptance. They should have to re-apply with that on their records.

    September 29, 2011 at 5:23 pm |
  364. Ravin

if someone is caught cheating on a very inportant test then I think he might have to go to jail for a couple of a days or get kicked out of the collage and have to go to a different collage or move to a different state. well thats just my opinion.

    September 29, 2011 at 5:24 pm |
  365. Corey

I think people should get detention or get suspended for cheating on their SAT's or be expelled

    September 29, 2011 at 5:26 pm |
  366. Nichole :D

Cheating on the SAT's, is not only lying to others but it's lying to yourself. Personally, if it where me, I'd rather have a bad score and it be my own than pay money for a scam that can get you into trouble. Is the outcome really that worth spending time in jail for? COME ON PEOPLE! Think! :( ...

    September 29, 2011 at 5:26 pm |
  367. Ryan

I think if the student is found guilty it should be considered a crime. He should fail the current grade he is in, get expelled, and no longer be accepted into colleges.

    September 29, 2011 at 5:27 pm |
  368. Kevin

I think we should arrest people for doing the wrong things. But we should have full proff before we call them gulity like the death penilty. It just isn't right to do the people who didn't do it. Honestly I think we should arrest the people who didnt do the exam

    September 29, 2011 at 5:28 pm |
  369. Anthony

I think that people cheating on the SAT dont know that cheating on the test will not get them in alot of trouble but it will so do not do it PERIOD.

    September 29, 2011 at 5:28 pm |
  370. Tanner

The student should be banished from that college, but they should not have criminal charges.

    September 29, 2011 at 5:30 pm |
  371. Erin

If a student is cheating on a major test the should get a zero on the paperand get suspended.

    September 29, 2011 at 5:30 pm |
  372. Nikki

I say the kids shouldn't be allowed to go to the colleges they applied for and got into, and should have to retake the test. I don't think it is a serious enough crime for them to go to jail, but do NOT let them off the hook!

    September 29, 2011 at 5:32 pm |
  373. Anna

Well this is why you just don't cheat in the first place.

    September 29, 2011 at 5:34 pm |
  374. Dani

I think that they should have to take the test all over again in a separate room from others and and expelled for at least a week.

    September 29, 2011 at 5:35 pm |
  375. Kyler

These students knew what they did, and she be punished for it. They should get a automatic grade for the test...

dont cheat because that person that you are cheating off of, may not have the right anwsers.

    September 29, 2011 at 5:38 pm |
  377. meredith

why would people ever cheat? it's just stupid! would't they at least think the plan through...they wasted money, time, and a whole lot of brain! i know not to think that less of myself to do that! thanks carl!

    September 29, 2011 at 5:41 pm |
  378. gina

I think that these people should have been a better person.because the people who paid the people to do the test there just to lazy to study and now they have to pay the punishment. if one of my friends did that i would forget them and try to help them break there lazy habits and help them past the test.i would never do that in my life i would study to my hearts content

    September 29, 2011 at 5:42 pm |
  379. Joseph

I think if students are found cheating on a major test should be suspended from school for a reasonable amount of time. They should also be given a zero. They should repeat the grade they were in. That would be a reasonable punishment for those who cheat on a test.

    September 29, 2011 at 5:45 pm |
  380. meg (megan)

i think that it is wrong to do and no one should do it. Also if you do the crime to have to pay the time and i think he should and it was just wrong what he did.

    September 29, 2011 at 5:45 pm |
  381. Ariana

I think that they should get sentenced some years in jail and then do some community service. They should get their college chosen for them instead of going to any college they want, and I don't think that any college would want to accept them after the horrible crime they committed.

    September 29, 2011 at 5:45 pm |
  382. Kiran

That is unbelievable. They should have to go to jail for that. They also should not get into the collage of their choice because they did not study at all. When I take the SAT this will be a perfect example of what NOT to do. It just makes me so mad. I am sorry for those people who did study and I hope you did well. Good luck to those who TRIED. For those rude, crude, and unacceptable people I hope you suffer the consequences. HARD

    September 29, 2011 at 5:47 pm |
  383. Parker

The SAT is a really big thing. Why in the world would pay someone else to take it for you? They could still fail the test. How did that guy pass for all of those tests? Why was that guy not recognized as a different person? If he was covering for SIX different people, why did nobody tell a supervisor he was not the real person?

    September 29, 2011 at 5:47 pm |
  384. Ally

I think all of the guys who were involved in this situation should have to retake the SAT test and re-apply to all of the collages they got into. That is just a terrible thing to do and I hope they will get more punished but they should at least have to do what I have already listed. That's just my opinion and I really hope you put this on your awesome web show

    September 29, 2011 at 5:48 pm |
  385. nikhil

This is crazy ! The bank should take the money they payed the payer payed and then make the payer take his test. the imposter should go to jail and none of them should be allowed to stay in the college

    September 29, 2011 at 5:49 pm |
  386. Josh

If a student if discovered cheating then he/she should take responsibility for that. A punishment should be given to the student but they should also have a chance to make up the test, maybe it's through extra credit, or extra class work, or even a retake of the test

    September 29, 2011 at 5:49 pm |
  387. dan

What i thinck should happen is if they get caught cheating they should get a consequece i dont however think they should do time in jail.

    September 29, 2011 at 5:50 pm |
  388. Malaki

If a student is found guilty of cheating on a major test then by all means that person shuould be punshied. Take away the cheaters so that people with actual high test scores can go on to college and become succsessful.

    September 29, 2011 at 5:52 pm |
  389. Grace

I honestly feel bad for him. Say he had gotten into an Ivy League school...Byebye! He should be charged with several different crime punishments and being in jail for 25 years. I also think that the fellow classmates who didn't cheat should sue him.

    September 29, 2011 at 5:52 pm |
  390. Anthony

I Think they should go to jail also they should have to take the year over and take it again

    September 29, 2011 at 5:55 pm |
  391. Will

I think the punishment for cheating should be to have to take the test again. This is the most fair thing because they will get the score they should have gotten, and not get the score they used to "get into" the school.

    September 29, 2011 at 6:00 pm |
  392. Irene

i think that those children were very idiotic and that wasn't so bright. I would never do that because that would mess up my reputation and probably a one out of ten chance that you would probably get expelled from that college.

    September 29, 2011 at 6:02 pm |
  393. neyce

I think students who cheat should not go to jail I mean there just children. But they should get punshed like suspesion from school and maybe not get in the college they wanted.

    September 29, 2011 at 6:03 pm |
  394. nataleigh

i think that those kids should go to jail because if they dont that is just teaching them that they can get away with stuff

    September 29, 2011 at 6:06 pm |
  395. sierra

If someone was caught cheating on a big test or quiz, i wouldn't feel bad for them. It wouldn't be fair that they can just get all the answers when someone else worked really hard. Besides why would you risk going to jail, juvie, or detention? Cheating is like findind a piece of hay in a needle stack. I would send them to dention, or juvie (depending on how important the test is).

    September 29, 2011 at 6:08 pm |
  396. Emily

I think that they should at least gave them 5 days in jail and a $500 penalty.

    September 29, 2011 at 6:08 pm |
  397. mango

I think that cheating is a bad thing but I believe arresting them was not the way to handle it they should have given the oss and make them skip the test or let them make it up later and defiantly not put them in the collage they wanted to be in

    September 29, 2011 at 6:12 pm |
  398. Tyler

i dont think there should be much of a consequnce for cheating its just a test it did not hurt anybody

    September 29, 2011 at 6:13 pm |
  399. jacob

i think they should be suspended but should not face hard charges

    September 29, 2011 at 6:13 pm |
  400. melina

If the student lacked the common sence to cheat and not even think out the consecuences of his actions i belive that the student will try to get away with his actions again sooner or later. therefor they should get punished highly.

    September 29, 2011 at 6:14 pm |
  401. Erika

Of cousre these people should get punished. The person who did all the cheating should have a big punishment. They ruined a lot of oppurtunitys ahead in life for them. Like college. The college shouldn't even think about giving them a second chance. How could they even trust these teenagers. Also careers. I bet that most places dont let people like them work. And the same should go for the kids who made that boy cheat for them. The most important lesson is,dont ever do anything like ths because you will go no where in life.

    September 29, 2011 at 6:15 pm |
  402. zachary

I think the punishment should be that they have to go in to a privet room and take the test with out any one there with a teacher in the room

    September 29, 2011 at 6:16 pm |
  403. garrison

I think students who cheated should not go to jail cause they are just kids. But they should get punshed like suspesion from school and maybe not get in the college they wanted.

    September 29, 2011 at 6:17 pm |
  404. Ian

The SAT is a huge test that can determine the rest of your life. Cheating on the test does deserve criminal charges but now many colleges won't accept these students who tried to cheat there way in and that is punishment enough.

    September 29, 2011 at 6:17 pm |
  405. Andre

I think it is terrible to cheat on a test and even that one 2 they should be suspended from school and go to jail for 1-3 years probaly

    September 29, 2011 at 6:18 pm |
  406. Bella

I think students that cheat should be suspended, have to re-take a different test, and have to go to summer school. I think jail is just a consequence more severe than needed.

    September 29, 2011 at 6:18 pm |
  407. jason

Not only it results to college admission but can be criminal charges

    September 29, 2011 at 6:18 pm |
  408. Dan

I think that those who cheat should go to jail because they know that they are not supposed cheat, and their doing it anyway. If I where them I would not do that because that will follow them from high school, to college and on to their life.

    September 29, 2011 at 6:20 pm |
  409. jason

i think its more that just a zero because it could affect thier future

    September 29, 2011 at 6:21 pm |
  410. Kai

I think cheating is wrong because there going to advance you to a higher grade. And your taking someones grade. And when you look back at the in the past your going to say i did not really past the grade

    September 29, 2011 at 6:22 pm |
  411. Frida

I think each person who cheated, and paid for someone else to do this major test, should have a re-test.It isn't fair for the students who studied
hard and were principled,I bet they were tempted on cheating to.

    September 29, 2011 at 6:22 pm |
  412. Caleb

I think there are different punishments for what kind of test they cheeted on and how much of it they cheeted on.

    September 29, 2011 at 6:22 pm |
  413. Shane

I think it would be fair to give as much as charges to that man but also to the people who hired him

    September 29, 2011 at 6:23 pm |
  414. Jenna

In my opinion I think that the students that committed the crime should have their collage acceptance revoked, and they should not be able to retake the S.A.T'S for at least one or more years. When the retake the test they should be in a separate room by their self with a school official. They should also be labeled as a CHEATER on their school record just like prisoners are labeled on the record so they should be treated the same way because cheating is also one of the worst crimes in my opinion, because a cheater is no better then a liar of a thief. In this case-scenario they are being a lying/cheating/thief that stole education that we all work so hard to get.Like my mom said "Cheaters never win,and winners never cheat !"

    September 29, 2011 at 6:23 pm |
  415. Saesha

I think they shouldn't go to jail they just have to retake test and start over.

    September 29, 2011 at 6:25 pm |
  416. bren

I think the students should not go to jail because there just kids .

    September 29, 2011 at 6:26 pm |
  417. Samantha

The SAT s are very important and should be taken very seriously. Therefore, whoever cheats on the SAT s should automatically fail. Then, maybe next time, that person won't cheat.

    September 29, 2011 at 6:26 pm |
  418. austin

I think that the studentds that cheat on the STAS should take the test again and be suspended from school.I also think that they shouldn't get into very meny collages if not at all.

    September 29, 2011 at 6:26 pm |
  419. richard

For me I wouldn't even dare to cheat I mean like it is not cool. For some people they find cheating as their way of "cool" but in my opinion I just find it DUMB! Also one last thing PLEASE DONT CHEAT IT ISN'T AS COOL AS YOU THINK! :)

    September 29, 2011 at 6:27 pm |
  420. Liam

I think when you cheat you are not learning anything, and you should think about the future. You should always try your hardest in every thing especially in test.

    September 29, 2011 at 6:28 pm |
  421. scarlet

I think that cheating is not cool because its not right and it can cause trouble also that cheating to get to something is bad its just like stealing.

    September 29, 2011 at 6:28 pm |
  422. Joey

If you cheat on any test, you get a zero. But when you cheat on the SAT probably the most important test in your life that determines if you get into the college you have always wanted to you should deffinitly get in more trouble. This is not just any ordinary test, the test gives them an outline of life, and so far the outline is behind jail bars.

    September 29, 2011 at 6:28 pm |
  423. Bryson

I think that they should go to jail because its bad to cheat its like they are stealing their grade and I think they should do the test again. I also think it was bad for them to pay him but it was wrong for him to do the test.

    September 29, 2011 at 6:29 pm |
  424. Pentar

I really think that its a bad idea because you might think it would help you out but it really does the opposite of what you might think. Cheating is just going to lead you to a worse future.

    September 29, 2011 at 6:29 pm |
  425. randy

I think that cheating is a terrible thing because it is just like stealing. I wouldn't cheat because I would blow my college career and may get me in a bad place in the future. Cheating can also ruin you're reputation as a person and a student. The cheating in the SATs is a crime and should be sent to jail if old enough. I hope they are found guilty on criminal charges so they learn there lesson.

    September 29, 2011 at 6:29 pm |
  426. jaun

if you are cheating stop and ask you're self "what will happen t my future". :( make me a smiley face please

    September 29, 2011 at 6:29 pm |
  427. Rue

I think that more people should cheat and be placed in courses that match there SAT scores. Then when they have no clue how to handle the course work they could fail. Then this would separate the students who work hard for their grades and others who should learn to say "Do you want fries with that?"
    ^o^

    September 29, 2011 at 6:30 pm |
  428. Claire

I think cheating is weird way of getting what you want. If the students intend to be in the school, then they at least have the smarts to take a test.

    September 29, 2011 at 6:30 pm |
  429. danielle

I think the teens should not be able to go to their college.I mean they must take responsibility for their actions.

    September 29, 2011 at 6:30 pm |
  430. Ian

I thick that student should be aloud to get into that college he or she should even be cheating on a major test that student should get a zero on the test.

    September 29, 2011 at 6:33 pm |
  431. Claire

The reasons for a test is to see if you know what you need to know for that job. If your not the one taking the test then you will most likely be fired easily, cause if you can't take it then you obviously don't know what you need to.

    September 29, 2011 at 6:37 pm |
  432. Thomas

On a regular test, he should get a zero. However, these are the S.A.T.S, he should have criminal charges and be immediately expelled from the school. It's not fair that they get an good grade by cheating while others study. People who work hard deserve recognition, not cheaters.

    September 29, 2011 at 6:40 pm |
  433. Sophia

I think that this is VERY bad. If you pay some one to do a big test like the SAT you can get in trouble. Also if you get away with it and get accepted into a very popular collage such as Harvard you have a better chance of a professor asking you a question that you don't know and you can get in trouble for having low grades.

    September 29, 2011 at 6:41 pm |
  434. Joash

I think that what they did was horrible, but I think they don't deserve to go to jail. Instead they suspended from that school and that this would be on there permanent record so it comes to bite them back.

    September 29, 2011 at 6:42 pm |
  435. ALEX

i think that all of the students including the one who got the money for cheating on the SAT's should have to get zero and have to deal with the consaquence of not having alot of collages to pick from or none at all or at the worst have to repeat SR year but all that is up to the police

    September 30, 2011 at 10:46 pm |
  436. Ashley

I think that people who cheat on a SAT, should be expelled for cheating. If I was the tacher I would tell them "Princaples office right now!". I know if i cheated on a test and my parents found out i would be in deep trouble and i would not be able to have my cellphone, or telivision for about 2 months.

    September 30, 2011 at 10:47 pm |
  437. Johny

They should not suspend the student, unless they have all of the evidence. If they found out the student is guilty i would give he/she 5 month detention. I would also make the student redo the SAT in a room surronded by police to make sure that the student doesnt cheat. They would have a lot more evidence.

    September 30, 2011 at 10:55 pm |
  438. Gage

what they did was pretty messed up but if it was THAT bad they might need to put someone in jail but if it is just a little thing then maybe they can just get over the fact that the messed up a little.

    September 30, 2011 at 11:01 pm |
  439. Brendan

I think those facing criminal charges for cheating get what they deserve. Students are supposed to not cheat on a major test such as the SAT. What good do you do yourself if you cheat? You aren't learning much at all, you are simply doing yourself an injustice.

    September 30, 2011 at 11:16 pm |
  440. savannah

i think that if they do the crime they should do the time, but nout many people like that idea.

    September 30, 2011 at 11:38 pm |
  441. Princess

Chaeating does not take you no where.

    September 30, 2011 at 11:59 pm |
  442. Lizbeth

If they cheat they don't desirve a good grade they desirve a f, and not pass grade.

    October 1, 2011 at 12:07 am |
  443. Sylena

if its a state quiz maybe crimal charges but if it sats i dont think soo i think they should be expiled not arrested

    October 1, 2011 at 3:35 am |
  444. Erica

if it's just a high school test or quiz, he should get an F in that course.
if someone is found cheating on SAT, he should be expelled from school.

    October 1, 2011 at 6:59 am |
  445. Ellie

I think that is very bad. Because this test is VERY important because well actually all tests are important but this certain one is a BIG test and in order to pass it they need to study and pay attention in class. So I think that their parents should be told the whole story and there mom/dad should be punished for whatever there child has done.

    October 1, 2011 at 7:49 am |
  446. austin

they should be band for 5 weeks. and have a good talk to mom and dad.if they cheat on any collage tests they shoud be arested.

    October 1, 2011 at 9:19 am |
  447. rex

i think that even though they cheated they shouldnt get sent to jail or any other major penalty i seen someone cheat before and they didnt get sent to jail so i think they should get a penelty that person needs to just get a zero and everyone get on with life dont they need to deal with more serious matters.

    October 1, 2011 at 9:27 am |
  448. Kaela

I think if someone is found guilty of cheating on a major test like the SAT's there should be major consequences such as going to jail for a certain amoun of time. Don't do the crime and you Won't serve the time. Its just that easy.

    October 1, 2011 at 9:43 am |
  449. Hannah

I think that what the students did was horrible & I don't think they deserve to go to jail. This should definitely go on their permanent record & I also think that they should retake the test & only get 3/4 of the grade they were supposed to originally get. If the college they get into wants to do something about it, too, I think that's a reasonable punishment, also.

    October 1, 2011 at 10:29 am |
  450. Mackenzie

I think they should spend some time in jail for cheating it is better to fail yourself then have some one ealse take it for you and both you and the person that you had take it for you end up in a jail cell for days, mounths, years,or even the rest of your life.

    October 1, 2011 at 10:49 am |
  451. aslam

Well , i think that people who cheat shouldn't be charged . They cheat because they're put under pressure . Maybe you shouldn't put them under that much pressure on them

    October 1, 2011 at 11:00 am |
  452. John

I think that anyone who cheats on such a big test should be put in jail.

    October 1, 2011 at 11:08 am |
  453. Jenna

Well I think they should get there whole letter grade in the class down. And suspension for a couple of days.

    October 1, 2011 at 11:10 am |
  454. Debby

You have to have some strict punishment to learn your lesson. If not jail then have a policy were you should not attend that school anymore. Cheating is never the way to go if you want to be successful.

    October 1, 2011 at 11:29 am |
  455. Jackson

I think kids should be in some type of In School Detention (ISD) or maybe even suspension because cheating is wrong and it defeats the purpose of learning.

    October 1, 2011 at 11:29 am |
  456. Jessica

I think that what they did is very terrible, but they don't deserve to go to jail.
He should be expelled from that school, never to come back again and have to find somewhere to go to school.

    October 1, 2011 at 11:38 am |
  457. nick

i think they should have to be talked to by a police officer and be in a lot of trouble so they dont do it again.Cheating is wrong especially on tests

    October 1, 2011 at 11:58 am |
  458. nick

all charges should be pressed and they shouldnt be allowed to go to college

    October 1, 2011 at 12:00 pm |
  459. Nicholas

I think cheating is wrong. They should put in jail for what they done, but they deserve a second chance at it not just a sentance. And they should take a set of diffrent tests to see if they qualify as a cheater!

    October 1, 2011 at 12:06 pm |
  460. Trey

i think that they should have never done this and that even if they are sorrry for this they should dtill be in prision for a while to think about what they did thats what i think.

    October 1, 2011 at 12:37 pm |
  461. Madi

I think they should be punished, but not sent to jail. Everyone makes mistakes. I believe their punishment should be to have to repeat their grade and retake the SATs.

    October 1, 2011 at 12:56 pm |
  462. Colton

I belive that cheaters on the SAT test should go through harsh punishment because it has the possibility of destroying others career plans.

    October 1, 2011 at 1:09 pm |
  463. Sammy

I believe cheating is wrong no matter what assignment, however when it is one of the most important tests of your life, that crosses the line.

    October 1, 2011 at 1:19 pm |
  464. Savannah

It is totally wrong and i also think that if they do get caught cheating on a major exam then yes i think they should get punished but maybe not that brutally i'm thinking they should get thrown in jail a good 10 years but killing them is not the best way to teach a lesson.

    October 1, 2011 at 1:24 pm |
  465. Corey

They should just accept the consequences of not studying instead of cheating. if they do cheat they should be suspended, expelled or aressted depending on the inportance.

    October 1, 2011 at 1:43 pm |
  466. Jana

If a student is found cheating on a major exam I think they should have the conciquence of criminal charges. It isn't fair for the other students who actually take the time to study for the test and don't cheat. Cheating won't get anyone anywhere in life.

    October 1, 2011 at 2:13 pm |
  467. Jacklynn

I think they should re-take the test in different rooms

    October 1, 2011 at 2:17 pm |
  468. Jessica

I think What they did is really bad. They should be suspended of that collage and at least have 2 years in jail and it should be be marked in their permenent record and have this guilt for their rest of their life.

    October 1, 2011 at 2:36 pm |
  469. Dara

i think its terrible for the people who payed him to take the sat test for them because , there not going to get anywhere in life if all they did is cheat in school

    October 1, 2011 at 2:39 pm |
  470. Joseph

I think if someone cheated on the SAT test, they shouldn't get any points from that test at all, plus you would have to face the consequences.

    October 1, 2011 at 2:50 pm |
  471. Tiffany

Cheating on a test is bad, but the SAT determines your future! If you cheat, your whole life is bound to become a giant disaster. Giant disaster, giant jail.... That fits! It cause and effect, really. What you get is what you receive.

    October 1, 2011 at 2:59 pm |
  472. Tiffany

Detention... suspension.... expelling.... does it really make a difference? NO! Detention for cheating on THE SAT ( biggest test of your life ) is like your mom giving you a calm " Don't do it again or not desert for you. " Unlike jail, where the closest thing you get to desert is whole wheat bread. Jail is the way to go.

Cheating on a test is bad, but the SAT determines your future! If you cheat, your whole life is bound to become a giant disaster. Giant disaster, giant jail.... That fits! It cause and effect, really. What you get is what you receive.

Big tests like the SAT's can be very stressful, but I don't think the people who cheated on the test have any resonable explanation for cheating. I think they should be expelled or take the test in a room with nobody else. The students need to face some kind of punishment, not just In School Suspension.

i think what they did was horrible but do they really need to go to jail i mean the worst that could happen is that they don't go to a good colleage and get a bad job so i don't think they should go to jail.

he or she should be expeled or never be able to go to school again

If this were a normal test, you would get a zero and maybe have to talk to your principal. But this is the SAT's, and they need to remember that this test will help you in your future, so cheating on it either proves your ignorant, or your lazy.

I think if a student cheats, he ruins it for other students. I think that person should get in trouble with the law for cheating on a national test.

I think they should be charged for cheating on the test. They should never had done that. It's just not cool.

    October 1, 2011 at 6:19 pm |
  480. Ashley

U should never cheat but jail? Reall? Isn't that a little overboared? I mean a zero and suspension sounds like a resonable request.

  481. Cheyanne

If you cheat you don't gain any knowledge of what they're trying to teach you. I think that if you cheat you should get a zero as a grade and suspended but if you paid a person to cheat for you that's even worse and you should get expelled. Cheating is like stealing I don't think its right to send them to jail but it should go on their permanent records and they should not be able to get into the colleges that had excepted them.

i think that if someone is cheating on a major test they should get suspended because when you cheat you are hurting yourself by learning nothing and cheating means that you didnt put the time in to studying so if you think cheating is an option and you get caught be ready for consequences.

cheating on a test now that 's just silly.why would people do that. I just don't get it. In my opinion I think its a against the law.

  484. Claire

I think that they should just get a zero on that test. If they do it more than 5 times, then they can get a zero and ALSO get a small fine, but they should not go to prison or face a large fine.

If a student is caught cheating on a major exam they should be expelled for a week to think about what they have done. If they do it again; however, they should have to repeat the test and redo the grade.

If you cheat on a quiz, detention. If it is on the SAT, expelled. I think that it depends on the test or quiz.

Here no they don't do that at are Highschool. It makes me angry and wondering why they are doing such a unesseccary and horrible lesson. The point is why just why do they do such a thing to a child that might have some great paper test's result's to a bad consequence there could be alot of reason's why he/she went there. If it was just a minor consequence it should be Not guilty to the student.

    October 1, 2011 at 9:42 pm |

They should be jailed because if they do it again, hey'll insire other bad people to do the same.

When taking the SAT, as well as other major exams, all test takers have to copy a certification statement which states that they are who they have claimed that they are. It is a legally binding statement, and therefore anyone who violates it may be subject to criminal charges. I believe cheaters on major exams should not only be subject to minor criminal charges, but they should also be denied entry to any college or university that they might have already been accepted to due to their false test scores. They should be forced to wait until at least the next semester before reapplying.

i think they should get suspened

i feel like you shouldn't cheat on a test like that curtainly u automatically get a zero and be expelled with criminal charges and wat would pay some one to do your test for you if u made it this far u could get farther.that makes people think u cheated on all your test.

Students definitely deserve a punishment more severe than just an "F". More along the lines of community service and for the guy who helped them he should definitely be put in jail for a couple of years

I think it depends how major the test is. If it's a smaller test, they owe and apology to the class, and they would have to do it on their own later that day. If it was a huge test I think they should receive a 0%, they should have to serve detentions and take an extra test without a chance to study.

If a students cheats on a High school test they should be arrested and should be suspended

i think its very bad that they dont want to do there own work and hire impersonaters to do the work for them. its not fair to the other students who do their S.A.Ts they deserve to go to jail

I think that if someone cheats on a major exam, they should get a zero and not be able to retake the test because cheating is wrong and in a way cheating is like stealing. If you cheat, your stealing someone's answers. Stealing is against the law and so everyone DON'T CHEAT!!!

  498. aariboo

i think that every one has cheated at least once so it not really a not get in to college thing even a simple test. the teachers should thow the test away and give them a zero and warn them if they ever do it agian or its a suspention

    October 2, 2011 at 10:23 am |

    or they should have the chance to re- take the test.(;

I would give them the criminal charges and expell them from the school. I would make them retake it to.

I think they should be punished. It wouldn't be fair that they were able to cheat their way into a good college. What if you weren’t accepted into the college you wanted because someone who cheated got the spot? That’s not fair. Life should be about being honest and truthful. We all know the saying if you can’t do the time then don’t do the crime. And all of them should be punished!

Ithink they should fail cause that is on then to cheat and give then commity work and maybe they would learn there leson if they dont then they need a worst punchishment

I think there should be serious consequences for cheating on SAT, because your score on the SAT helps colleges determined if you will receive a scholarship. If you cheat and get a scholarship you are basically stealing money from that college.

I really think what they did was a really bad thing, but definitely not jail deserving. The test administrators should simply make all the involved students retake the test under close monitoring. After that, the misdemeanor should be put on their permanent record so they won't be able to get as good a job, if any.

    October 2, 2011 at 1:46 pm |
  505. Erin

Well if the test is really important like SAT, or ACT, criminal charges could be used as a punishment but for a lower test like end of the year test, a zero or suspension, or even exspulsion are a more appropriate charge

    October 2, 2011 at 1:52 pm |
  506. Anel

i think they should get criminal charges because, you've been told all your life not to cheat. You should never let anyone cheat form you because then they would be learning nothing.

Why waste our time telling? what good does it bring that person from cheating. It just hits them hard in the long run.

We're not in high school or college, but we know that the SAT's are really major, and we think that if someone cheats on they should not to the colleges. If people found out after they got into college, they should expell them. It's like telling kids it's okay to cheat if they don't get consequences.

    October 2, 2011 at 3:56 pm |
  510. Moyah

I think that the person should be punished by.Not having no recess and having recess and having more homework than the other students. Also I think that they shouuld hane to re-take the test in a room by their self.

    October 2, 2011 at 4:27 pm |
  511. Melanie

I think that it is crazy that someone would of cheated on the SAT. I think that the person who would do such a thing needs to have at least 1 year in jail. This is the most serious test in any school distrect, as is the MAP test.

cheating is a wrong thing to do. Students should never do that. I hink they should get a zero, phone call home, and detetion

  513. Samuel

I think cheating is ridiculous, and the teenagers who got criminal charges got what they deserved. When the teenagers cheated on the SAT it was unfair to the other students who studied and didn't cheat. If I'm not allowed to cheat on my test for school, they shouldn't be allowed to cheat on their test to get into college.

    October 2, 2011 at 6:11 pm |

Students who cheat on a major test shoud have a harsh consequence, but not as harsh as a juvinile sentence

    October 2, 2011 at 6:15 pm |

I think that it is totally wrong that someone would cheat and smuggle their way into college and then have them get a job that they don't deserve and then have all the other kids work for their spot in a college and the conseqence should be that they don't get accepted into any good colleges or even a college
