Best Type of Textbook

What's better for learning?
When I was a freshman in high school, my locker was nowhere near any of my classes.  So I remember carrying all six of my books in a backpack (until the strap broke).  Good exercise?  Maybe.  Look cool?  No.

There's no question that today's electronic readers are lighter, but are they better for learning?  My textbook-toting days may be over, but you're right in the middle of yours, so we'd like your opinion on whether you'd actually learn better from an electronic book or a traditional textbook - or if neither type would make a difference.

Bring too many books are awful.
Also try new thing is so nice, so why don't we use electronic books some weeks, and choose electronic books or traditional textbooks.

These days, I have to carry lots of books and my shoulders are very hurt.So I want to use electronic books.

electronic readers would be expensive but they would last longer and be more useful but the traditional textbooks would be cheaper and more convient

I think that traditional textbooks would be better for schools to learn for two reasons. First, if an iPad is sitting in front of you all day, you might get distracted and start playing games. Second, if you wanted to just look at a screen all day, you might be home schooled and do online classes. If kids are looking at screens all day it will damage their vision and affect their social life.

I think electronic textbooks are a good idea because students these days can relate to technology. Almost every kid has a cell phone or iPod, so why wouldn't an extra device that view textbooks be any different? Our generation would learn better with the medium they know best.

I would rather have an electronic book than a regular textbook. The electronic book would be more easier to carry around and it is currently updated.

I think it would be a great idea for electronic textbooks cause you wont have to worry about ripped pages and coloring in the book and its lighter to carry to class and you get a book that easy.

It might just will! But if the words are to small in a textbook you cannot make them bigger but with the electronic book you can! And put all your notes in one spot to. Plus it might help you with your grammer

i think that if kids actually payed any attention to learning then we would learn much more but honestly we would just surf the web or something like that.

It may work out! If the words are to small in the textbook you cannot make them bigger but with the electronic book you can! And you can put all your notes in one spot to.

I really think it would help us learn easier because knowing the companies that manufactur these products will come up with some program that will give us a play by play of how to do things we don't understand. But, there always is that one kid that wil probably hack into the system and do something inappropriate to the electronic textbooks.

I think that electronic books are eayser to carry around and I am in the 6 grade and it would be eayser to take to all my classs.

I would say the electronics book because I think that the It would encourage kids to read more. These days students love to play on electronics and students love to use them on normal curriculum and to learn with it.

There might be a slight difference in learning. You see, if you have a electronic textbook your eyes may get tired easily, causing a distraction. If the words are too small, you'll have to look closer, which will also hurt your eye. Though the normal textbook also makes your eye sore, but the electronic one will make it happen faster, and probuably more noticable and annoying.

Electronic textbooks are obviously the better choice. We students would really appreciate for teachers to take that load off our backs! Anyway, in the age of technology, we would be really comfortable using an electronic textbook!

I believe it could help the kids out a lot because instead of lugging around all those textbooks like math and science and English they can just carry around that one little digital text book in a sling bag and maybe a folder or two

Only electrical book cannot help students to up grate their knowledge .They need some other books to have some education .

I think that electronic books would be better because some books get over used and never return do to students losing them. Students could also get better knowledge because of he updates on the internet.

We would benefit from electronic texts books because our load would decreas greatly. Our big textbooks put a good amount of weight on our back but with the electronic books or e-books the weight would be gone. Students would think that the kindle, nook, or iPad was "cool" and they would possibly be more interested.

    January 4, 2011 at 11:55 pm |
  25. Madeline

I think that not having to carry so much weight would be good for all students. I also think that it would be nice to have so many choices at the touch of your finger tips. Having updated versions could save time too. The only problem would be that they could be a distraction, but it in the long run they are useful.

I think that having a school transition to electronic books could be quite expensive, not to mention the cost of replacing them over and over. It would be a big commitment for schools to adopt the new technology, but in the long run, I believe its beneficial. I'm currently attending my local community college, and I've realized certain text books are much easier to read when they're more ascetically pleasing to look at. In this day and age, I believe students will find reading electronically more relevant with all of today's other technologies. An electronic book can be formatted differently from its original print (i.e. larger/smaller print, wider/narrow columns) to fit each readers needs. Thumbs up for elecronic books dude!

I think those electronic devices with text books pre-installed can totally change the educational methods we have today.

But there's still one thing to be worried- the internet connection.

Usually those devices can access the wifi spot.

Teachers can't see your screen,so students might blog or post something on there fb wall during class time.

    That will be a problem.

    January 5, 2011 at 4:46 am |

I don't think electronic books would make students learn better. Those books will only make students distracted by the accessibility to the internet. I don't want to see my friends updating their facebook during the class.

Electronic Textbooks are really the same as the old ones. But electronic ones aren't as heavy, and they are up to date. They're also cheaper, so really, its new over old.

Electronic textbooks are much better than the traditional books in my opinion because its lighter than books. You don't have to get a big muscle in your legs, you could just get a one light electronic text books.

  34. Jieun

I think there is no difference between learning with electronic books and traditional textbooks. Of course there are differences about the convenience or looks when using them, but they are not related to learning efficiency. If we consider the advantages and disadvantages of those, there'll be lots of them ; the electronic books would be handy because it's light and easy to carry around anywhere but it is bad for our eyesights. The traditional textbooks would less harm our eyesights, but it's hard to carry around. ..and so on. However, do these relate to our learnings? I don't think so. People have different personal characteristics when learning something. So, I think we can't make a point to what's the better one to learn.

Electronic textbooks are a good idea but I don't think that it would help students learn better what they already have been learning with their regular textbooks.

I think the Traditional text books are better because, what if the electronic device runs slowly and your classmates read ahead of you and your E-Text book wont turn the page. Thats why the old way can be better than the computer way.

The most important thing in school is to learn, of course! so if the electronic textbooks were used in all schools i definitely think it will help students learn better and at the same time we'd be saving trees.

I think that the electronic textbook would be better, because with all the technology around today kid's attention spans would last longer, so they would learn more.

I would rather have an electronic book because you don't have worry about flipping pages back and fourth. Plus your'e on an electronic device that's always fun when you are in school.

I think electronic books would help us to learn better. Simply because the fact that are text books are out dated and old. Also because text books are heavy and a lot to keep up with.

I think that kids would like this more because now in this day in age we are all using electronics and are more intrigued with them. On my iPad I have an app for books and I enjoy using my fingers to slide a cross the screen Instead of psychically moving the page it think it's good

I think that online text books are better because you can actually interact with somthing instead of sitting there and trying to pay attention. Besides thats what most people do at home anyway!

I think the digital textbook is a good way to go with learning. The digital textbook has no pages to rip out. Also the digital textbook is lighter to carry. Over time the digital textbook would cost schools less money!

The cost of electronic books is prohibitive. Traditional textbooks are probably cheaper overall. For example, you don't have to have history textbooks updated every minute. Maybe they are more appropriate for certain subjects than for others.

I think that if schools decide to use electronics for textbooks, some students might play apps, or on the kindle or nook, buy or read other books that the school wouldn't want them reading..... I do think it is a good idea, but it is something to keep in mind.....

  53. steven

personally, I think that an electronic text book is a great idea if the device is used ONLY as a text book, as soon as you put other things that can get you to things that do not involve books(games, videos, etc.) then it would be better to just to have a regular text book. so I guess that it just matters what device you use.

i think that online textbooks are a very good idea. i think this because it is a lot easier to do things on the computer, and that it is easier to maintain the online textbooks, and you can't loose them as easy. i think that it is a good investment for every school to get either laptops for every student, or a kindle or ipad or some thing like that.

At our school, we are required to have computers because we do so much work on them.In Science Class we use them to look at our textbooks on the internet. And I prefer not having to carry around the heavy textbook. I think that they should make the switch. It will be much better and healthier to keep that weight off our backs. And is much easier to study on electronics rather than the good old textbook.

    January 5, 2011 at 9:35 am |
  56. Rachel

I think the electronic books are a good idea. Carrying around a bunch of books that hurt your back don't do any favors for a student. An electronic book would save paper, money, and students backs from falling out of place. Think about it, schools have to spend tons of money to get new books when they could just get them online. I dont see why schools wouldn't make the change to electronic textbooks.

    January 5, 2011 at 9:40 am |
  57. Emily

I think that we should use electronic textbooks because it would cost less money. People say that they want to save the environment but when we have regular textbooks we are wasting so much paper. I personally like reading from electronics than books cause it keeps me more interested. My eyes start to hurt when I read from textbooks but not when I read from computers. Our textbooks are sometimes wrong because current events have changed the past. If we have electronic textbooks that would not be the case because it would always update with current news. I think schools all around the world should get electronic textbooks!

    January 5, 2011 at 9:40 am |
  58. Amanda

I have mixed feelings about the electronic textbook. Some good things about it is that you wouldnt have to carry so many books and your back wouldnt be sore once you get home from school. Also you would be going green and not wasting trees for all the pages. So you would be saving the environment . Another good is that it would never be outdated. Some bad things about it though is that it could break down and stop working . Then we would have to wait for them to get fixed before we start using them again.

    January 5, 2011 at 9:44 am |
  59. Ben

It is stupid! Kids will break them too easily.

    January 5, 2011 at 9:44 am |
  60. Katie

I think electronis textbooks would be kind of cool in the class room. I can also see how that could be sort of a distraction. Having these in the class room or the library could also get students more focused because it's technology not just a boring text book. Over all, I think this a good idea. The electronic text books are also easier to carry around than regular text books. I have six different text books. So does everyone else at my school. Electronic text books are better for the envirnment. Having to reprint text books wastes paper. Electronics will cut down on the amount of trees cut down to make paper. I wish all schools had this technology.

I think if we use the kindle and electronic books it will be a waste of money. I think so because if we drop it and it breaks thhen we have to ask our parents for more money. If we do get electric computers i think that our schools should provied the computers!

I think that we should have online or electronic text books .It would be easier to carry them from class to class...... Having these Electronic books would make kids more interested in school, because they weigh less and they are more interesting.....Which would make the kids more involved in school. Even though it would take a while to get the Electronic Text Book it would still be something great to have.

Electronic textbooks are showing how much technology teenagers use these days. We use it all the time whether we are texting using Skype or emailing. Making technology a part of schools would make kids enjoy learning more because it is in a way that we enjoy and understand. Also having electronic textbooks would reduce the amount of paper wasted and the amount of strain on our backs from the weight.

    January 5, 2011 at 9:50 am |
  65. Chynna

I think that getting electronic books would be easier because you wouldn't have to walk around with all your books in your arms. You would get tired of carrying all of your books. I don't like going back and forth to my locker because i don't want to be late for my classes. So really alot of schools should have electronic books.

    January 5, 2011 at 9:51 am |
  66. Daijlon

I think an electrical textbook would be wonderful. This textbook would be wonderful because it is saving our environment and because we are using a lot of paper on books. There are many books big, medium, and small which uses a lot of paper.

    January 5, 2011 at 9:52 am |
  67. Alexis

I think that in some ways......yes it's better ...but no it's not in other ways..... It saves the trees but it also saves are back 's from getting hurt when we are older. It will save the schools money and maybe not have to cut programs that schools need. But it will cost money to buy the electronics. But i do have my school books just sitting in my locker collecting dust. So i honestly think it could be good and bad for the schools to do.

    January 5, 2011 at 9:52 am |
  68. Luke

I'm in middle school and I have all these books just sitting in my locker. If I had a Nook, then I would have more space in my locker. Regular books are getting dusty in our lockers and wasting paper. I want a Nook for school.

  69. Ayreonna

Even though now-a-days addelecense take advantage of todays' electronics and technology. I think that it should still be considered because it could help keep students focused and more engaged into what they're doing. Its actually a good idea to have invented electronic textbooks because in these modern days most sudents aren't intereseted in regular old textbooks they are interested in todays' more updated technology. So if getting electronic textbooks is what it takes to get students envolved then that is what we need to do. To make a difference in todays' students and how they learn.

    January 5, 2011 at 9:54 am |
  70. Nick

I think that electronic text books are better because it makes your bag lighter. My brothers bag is thirty five pounds and he has to carry it everywhere, because his classes are nowhere near his locker.
this would make his bag almost ten or fifteen pounds lighter. This would also save the school a huge amount of money. So there would be less books that get torn or ruined. This would make textbooks paper cut free. of course some students would screw around on the internet but that would easily be expected. but teachers could get even more strict about kindles and book readers and punish more severely.

    January 5, 2011 at 9:54 am |
  71. christopher

I think that we should use the portibal ebook because we can carry 100 books in one ebook reader.

    January 5, 2011 at 9:54 am |
  72. mike

well i think the new kind of text book is good for people who cant really see that well and if every school had this they would save a lot of money and woulnt be in a money jam

    January 5, 2011 at 9:54 am |
  73. Caylan

I think that text books should be gone forever and be replaced with electronic text books. So kids don't have to carry around those hevay books messing up their shoulders and hurting their backs. If kids carry to many text books (because they do) they can forget their text book when that person has homework in that class. Also not only would it be easy to forget at school but it also takes up to much space!!! So I think that the electronic books would be a helpful idea. If we use books that are electronic in school then the school days would be easier to get through knowing we don't have to walk around with big heavy text books. Instead we have a kindle or nook in our bag less of a problem.

    January 5, 2011 at 9:55 am |
  74. michaela

Lots if students use books and take them home every night to use them for homework and to study. It kills peoples backs because there are so many books to put on your back.

    January 5, 2011 at 9:55 am |
  75. jordan

I think the tech books aren't a good move because we don't want to evolve the world around technology. But the books might be less than on the electric books than on the shelves.

    January 5, 2011 at 9:55 am |
  76. Brionne

I think the electronic books would be a great idea because it would have all the information that we need for homework. I mean text books can help too, it's just that you can put the electronic book in your school locker and not have any trouble trying to close your locker. On the other hand texts books are hard to put in your locker when you have a lot and it would be hard to close. That's all.

    January 5, 2011 at 9:56 am |
  77. Renejha

I think that online text books are so great because these old text books have not been up dated so you never no when your learning or teaching the wrong infromation. online text books would be so helpful to the enviroment because we waste so much paper printing and re printint new text books.

    January 5, 2011 at 9:58 am |
  78. Bradley

I think that all schools should have the eletrictronic textbooks like the schools in Califorina and Toranto.I think we should have these because the textbooks we have at my school range any where from 6-1 years old. The textbooks we have do not have president Obama, or other people, or things that have happened in the past 6 years. On the electronic textbooks we will have the updated information about things that have happened in the past 6 years.

    January 5, 2011 at 9:58 am |
  79. Zach

Electronic books are a much better decission for school rather than useing text books. Text books are very heavy and are a pain for students to carry around all the time. A lot of the text books are ten to fifteen years old and most of the inormation is not up to date. A lot can change in that period of time and that can effect your learning. Electronic devices such as a kindle or an Ipad can access online text books for students to get inormation that is up to date and has more than one subject on them. When student use the newest technologies to get inormation, they are more interested in it than reading out of a big text book. It is a lot easier to access in formation on an electronic reader by just searching for a topic you are looking for. Yes they cost a lot of many, but you can use them for all the years you are in school. text books can cost hundreds of dollars a year. With an electronic reader you just have one fee and that is when you buy it. Therefor electronic readers is the way to go.

I think there is no difference, I see how people would like online text books because they update all the time and you can look up information fast... But technology is not always reliable.

    January 5, 2011 at 10:11 am |
  81. Victor

We can not stop the continuous growth of the technological age, and with the constant flow of new information along with the high demand for its availability, it may be time for schools to start embracing the use for mobile devices to access current info for school needs instead of caring a ton of heavy textbooks that possibly could be out of date. I'm not saying we should abandon the use of text books, I do however think we should start consider to digitize most of our school textbooks to digital format that can be seen on most mobile devices.

electronic textbooks are better because they take a load off people backs.

I think that online textbooks would be better because there would be more information than a regular textbook because it actually updates and a three or four year old textbook doesn't.

yes because you wouldnt have to carry around heavy textbooks.

I don't really have an opinion on this subject. I'm for either side. The up side: not having to carry about text books everywhere, less money being used from schools to buy the books, and you wouldn't have to worry about damaging the books, and having to pay for the damages. The down side: The internet has many distractions, such as social networks, email, and instant messangers. This is my opinion on the subject.

Yes becauce the kids will be more inest`they wont have to worry about wrecking the book.

    January 5, 2011 at 10:25 am |
  88. Anthony

yes because when the text books get changed every year and the stuff is new so if you get a assignment that is 2008 then you can't look at a libray because they change the books every three years.

I think online books would be better because they would update if anything important happens anywhere. Also it is saving trees because they dont have to use paper to make the books. Another reason I think kids should get the online books is beacause the school woldnt have to pay for books, kids wont have to carry textbooks around, and they wouldnt have to worry about their books not fitting in their lockers.

    January 5, 2011 at 10:27 am |
  90. Breannia

I think that we should have online text books because it would a eliminate shoulder and back pain in the students and they wouldnt have to carry so much extra baggage around with them so it would be easier for the students t carry with them.

    January 5, 2011 at 10:28 am |
  91. Christina

Yes and no because of the heavy books you have to carry around. But the cost of the online textbooks cost alot and the students are going to lose or brake them

I think that this is a good idea, this will work a lot faster then looking through a 2 ton text book, and this day kids are interested in stuff like that, soooooo yea

Yes because the old textbooks we use does not have the new stuff in it snd the Electronic textbooks do have the new information. And it would save our school board more money.

  96. An'Dreaa

Electronic Textbooks are actually a good idea. Our books may be outdated, and we might not be getting the correct information and education we need.If we have electronic textboooks,we will always be updated and get the right information we need for this year. Our government will save more money because their not re-buying books every 3 to 4 years. So i strongly recommend buying Electronic Textbooks instead of regular textbooks !

    January 5, 2011 at 10:33 am |
  97. Payge

I think the online books are better. And I think every school should get every kid a nook, ipod, or ipad. Because it will help kids learn, because for people who can't see very well, including me, Might want to make the text or print bigger so they can read better. And kids like electronics better than boring old books. The nook, ipod, and ipad all have their own lighting too. Plus it will save a lot of time during your hallpass time because books are a struggle to carry around the school and get out of our tiny lockers. And you should be able to buy them from the school but for less fortunate kids should be able to get them free or just make small payments every month or something. And kids at our school aren't aloud to carry around backpacks to class for safety reasons so it is harder for us to get them around.

    January 5, 2011 at 10:34 am |

It will be a good idea to use text books becuase it will save trees and save lots of money and u wont have to carry lots of text books around.

I think it is a great idea because all students have theses days is technology. If I forget to take my textbook home, with the books online i can do my homework.

What is the point of having electronic text books when you can read a paper book that where made for thousands of years. It is a really cool device but stick to books.

I think we should have text books on computers because computers get updated and are easy to use. They are better for the enviroment and would be alot less money for school books.

I think eletronic txt books are better because it wont take that long for home work it will be quicker and faster. Also my backpack wont be so heavy, the eletronic txt books will be lighter.

I think that society revolves around electronics you might as well use technology for learning. This could definitely increase grades and performance in the classroom.

    January 5, 2011 at 10:39 am |
  106. Nikki

Although the electronic device is expensive, the books are cheaper. The electronic textbooks would also allow students to always have their text in class and at home for studying. It would eliminate back problems and numbness of the arms. The electronic device might provide more updated materials and information. Being able to have immediate internet access, as well as dictionary and thesaurus access, would help students with problematic topics and/or words. We also think students would be more responsible with these devices because of the cost, where students are care-free with the textbooks, which is why so many are lost and damaged.

I think electronic text books would help students learn better because we have something to do. Some students need help reading and the teachers do not have to worry about it because the text book can read it aloud to the student. Also the students don't have to take 50 pound books home every day so it would be better for electronic books.

    January 5, 2011 at 10:42 am |
  108. Kayla

Yes I think electronic text books would help studens learn better because they are cooler then reading a normal text book also you don't have to carry around alot of text books.

  109. Mrs. Ross' Class

Most of our class were torn on Electronic textbooks. They liked the fact of not having to carry around the textbooks. They also liked anything to do with technology. On the other hand, some were scared of technology failure and not being able to do homework.

I don't think there's a difference. A textbook is a textbook, online or not. You're going to learn the same thing anyway.

  111. samantha

i think that it would be better to use electronic textbooks because you can take it with you where ever you go,and even if you can carry regular textbooks around they are really heavy and can give you back problems, and if you come across a word in regualr textbooks you have to try and find it in the glossary but with electronic textbooks you just click on it and it gives you a definition.

    January 5, 2011 at 10:54 am |
  112. Sarah

I believe that while traditional textbooks may be heavy and hard to lug around, the electronic books would not only provide suffecient distraction from actually learning something, but I feel that te student wouldn't get the same amount of learning out of an electronic 'book'.

An electronic text book can save 99% of my time to get to my next class, instead of walking back to my locker after each hour. Most kids are tardy or late for their next class becuase of problems with not being able to open their locker, but with a electronic text book that i could carry to every class, that would be most helpful.

I think electronic text books would be better because you would not hauf to go to your locker all the time and be late for your nexted class. Being a student my self, it would make my world compleat to not carry thowes heavy books around.

  122. Cassie

I think that it really wouldnt make a difference on how easy it is to learn but I think that the electronic textbooks would be better because kids would be less likely to lose the textsbooks and it would be easier to bring them from home to school but also not all kids have wireless internet at home so they might not be able to get to their textbooks once they get home which would make some homework close to imposible.

    January 5, 2011 at 11:22 am |
  123. Amanda

i think electronic books would be so much better for learning. Personally i dont bring home most of my books because we have to bring home 3 or 4 every night, and they are not easy to carry. If we had electronic books it would be easier for students to learn all of their material, and actually get their homework done.

    January 5, 2011 at 11:22 am |
  124. kim

well if you ask me i say that the electic book would teach you more because it might have more up to date stuff about it and you could probley go from book to book rather thancarrying more books around!!!!!

  125. Victoria

I think that electronic books would be diffucult to use and confusing to figure out and you have to keep going back or you could just flip a page and be able to acess the information you need, they may add alittle bit of weight to your load but I think that electronic books would be more diffuclut.

But I would also use electronic book's because they weigh less and they are more handy and you could leave them at school or write your name and barrow it to bring home but to me there really isn't much of a difference I would have to use one anyways.

    January 5, 2011 at 11:22 am |
  126. Dylan

I think that students would learn easier because yoyu wouldnt have to worry about going to youre locker and being late for class and students would think it would be cooler to use somthing like that .eletronic books never get old or ruined thay would last a long time and save schools a lot of money for not spending so much money on new books every four years.

In Arizona, there is a school district that fully functions on small Dell laptops. I attend one of these schools, and i have to say that even though there are some problems with the servers crashing or what not, it is MUCH, MUCH easier than carrying around 40 pounds of books. And even with these minimal problems, electronics are much easier to learn with, and even if you can't find something in the electronic textbooks, students still have unlimited resources, including the internet. Technology is much better than books, and allows decreases in book productions, which saves paper. So, all in all, the electronic books and laptops, are much more beneficial to the planet and the education of students.

Electronic books are a great idea for students, by having them it takes the weight off their back. If the students are in extra cirricular activities, they don't need to carry a lot of books. They are a great way to stay updated! =)

I think it would be great for people with weak backs but overall I think that it would make no difference in the learning curve with regular text books and electronic text books but that the electronic will be more up to date so I would say electronic books would be better.

I personaly don't see a difference with normal text books and electronic book. You carry the paper text book and then you read the electronic book. There is no difference. Besides the fact that you have to pay for every book you buy. I think that there is no difference.

I think that digital text books are great and it would be better than stinky old dusty text books I bet a lot of people feel the same way.

    January 5, 2011 at 12:31 pm |
  148. Brandon

I think that original text books will rip and tear. electronic ones will last much longer than the paper, and the kids could just download the textbooks to their electronical stuff.

    January 5, 2011 at 12:32 pm |
  149. Ms. Maguire's Class

We think electronic textbooks would be better than traditional books because we have found mistakes in our textbooks. There is no way to change these mistakes and other students reading the books might not know there are mistakes. Electronic books are easier to use. No more missing words that are stuck in the crack of the book! Electronic books would be lighter and easier to carry. Traditional books are easily ripped or damaged. Sometimes students write in books and ruin them for the students who have to use them the following year. It would be easier to find words that you don't understand in an electronic textbooks. Students who have trouble reading can listen to the book while they are viewing it.

    January 5, 2011 at 12:34 pm |
  150. Ashley

I think textbooks are too heavy to carry around, not only are the electronic textbooks lighter but they are also updated. So, it is much easier to carry them around and you can learn better.

  151. Austin

It is a very good idea, it would certainly make things easier, and also open up more opportunites for the students due to the cut in spendings it will create.

  152. nick

I think it is a great idea. But instead of the school paying for the electronic devices they should have the students pay for part of it so they take better care of it.

  153. Alexander

It would be pretty cool if we actually used eletronic notebooks.

Although if you break it, it would cost a lot more.

  154. Angela

to be honest, using electronic textbooks won't be better for learning cuz all we want is facebook and tweet . so easy to be distracted...

    January 5, 2011 at 12:48 pm |
  155. Ms. Sherrie's Class

We believe that electronic textbooks is a good idea due to all of the positives, such as: it's cheaper, it'll take pressure/weight off the backs of students and its less bulky to have to carry around without having to worry bout using. It could also promote fun in reading, inspiring students who don't read or who have trouble reading, to read more and become better educated 🙂

    January 5, 2011 at 12:53 pm |
  156. Tommy

Electronic text books might be too distracting for students and it might be affect students' eyesight since they would be staring at a computer screen for so long.

    January 5, 2011 at 12:58 pm |
  157. Aaron

I feel that in schools, teachers should use what the students like in order to help them learn. Therefore, textbooks on computers are a advantage in schools across the nation because all teenage students have some kind of technology device, so if the teachers can use that to their advantage, scores on test and classwork might be better.

    January 5, 2011 at 12:59 pm |
  158. Anna

Electronic text books are a good idea because it might help us read since we are already using computers today for so many other applications.

  159. Summer

I think that it is a great idea, but it's kinda sad to think that soon we won't turn the pages of our books or use our bookshelves. Yes, it will lighten the load in your back pack but I hope everyone will keep the good old-fashioned ones that sit on the shelf and read them every once in a while.

    January 5, 2011 at 1:01 pm |
  160. Marissa

I don’t think it would really make a difference in learning. Your getting the same information whether it comes from a textbook you carry or a textbook online.

    January 5, 2011 at 1:01 pm |
  161. Shayna

I think that electronic textbooks would be a big distraction to students. Boring textbooks may not be the fun way to learn the material, but having a computer to do it on, gives you a lot more options to get distracted. Textbooks may cost a lot, but how much would it cost to replace the electronic textbooks? I think that school boards need to think about the education aspect instead of the money they will save.

    January 5, 2011 at 1:02 pm |
  162. Ann

I think the digital text books would be better because they would keep our attention better. Although they could be a distraction I think that it would help with organization and it would help with the weight of the books also!

    January 5, 2011 at 1:02 pm |
  163. Stephanie

I believe that there is no difference between electronic books and traditional books. Not one of them helps students learn better, they are exactly the same thing because they both have the same information. One is just more high tech and up to date.

    January 5, 2011 at 1:02 pm |
  164. Markus

I think electronic textbooks would only benefit the student by reducing the weight of every ones back pack. As far as learning better I don’t think there would be any difference it’s the same material just presented electronically and more up to date.

    January 5, 2011 at 1:02 pm |
  165. Michelle

I think that online would help me a lot more because then I will more likely to study whatever I need to. Also it will help people have access at home in case students can’t check out a book from the library or they just don’t have theirs at home because they might not want to carry the books home.

    January 5, 2011 at 1:02 pm |
  166. Rachel

I do think electronic textbooks would help students learn better. Students now days are really used to new technology. Every day we use electronics. Learning on electronically devices would make students more interested also than just the old textbooks. I do believe using electronic textbooks would help students learn better because we would enjoy it a lot more.

    January 5, 2011 at 1:02 pm |
  167. Danielle

Electronic textbooks, I believe would be a great investment because it lowers the load for each student. The student does not have to worry about losing a textbook or it being stolen, all of the information they need would be in the electronic book holder.

    January 5, 2011 at 1:03 pm |
  168. Tiffany

I believe that the electronic books would be better only because text books are too expensive with all the budget cuts and besides they’re heavy! No one wants to carry around an extra twenty pounds all day.

    January 5, 2011 at 1:03 pm |
  169. Todd

I believe that our society is advancing in technology and our schools need to advance as well.

    January 5, 2011 at 1:03 pm |
  170. Lande

I think school should use electronic text books because it would be allot easier and less stressful, plus in the long run it would be cheaper because books are always being damaged and needing to be paid for. And on top of that for students with bad backs it can be killer caring around huge text books rather than one device that has all the books you need in one.

    January 5, 2011 at 1:03 pm |
  171. Dan

I believe that having an electric reader that has all my textbooks on it would be more convenient but not necessarily more efficient. It would make it so I didn’t have to carry all my books around with me but might also be more easily lost or misplaced.

    January 5, 2011 at 1:04 pm |
  172. Monica

I believe that the electronic readers would actually be very benefit to having, and it would also help the students learn. I think this because it would be a lot easier having all of your study books on just one small thing, instead of having to carry multiple books.

    January 5, 2011 at 1:05 pm |
  173. Cantin

Electronic readers positive aspects outwiegh there negative and certainly suggest the end of the "text boook". If the readers were equipped with internet access, the assignment while being read could be supplemented by the teacher with online references, videos, and experiements. This would appeal to the reader and hold their interest therefore by being engaged "learn better".

    January 5, 2011 at 1:07 pm |
  174. Isaiah

It certainly makes it more easy to access nearly any literature. It will be easy to implement into the education system as the education system becomes more high tech. Since the cost of the e-readers is comparable to a new text book, the price should stay about the same, but save money over time, let alone backpack space, and back and shoulder pain.

    January 5, 2011 at 1:12 pm |
  175. Marlene

Electronic books would be a good change especially for big old books since most people are used to looking at screens it wouldn’t be as boring, it would make learning more interesting, and there would be less fines on books/textbooks.

    January 5, 2011 at 1:14 pm |
  176. Kayla

The problem with traditional textbooks are that a lot of students do not want to carry all of their books home for homework therefor leaving some at school, not finishing assignments. With the electronic books, students are more likely to take it home to look things over, since it's just one thing.

    January 5, 2011 at 1:19 pm |

I think that it would be good to have an electronic textbooks for students to learn from but there will be an issue about some students not able to afford the devises

After discussing it as a class we see both sides of the arguement. Digital textbooks would cost less money over a period of time. However, textbooks would not have the problem of ensuring online safety for each student.

    January 5, 2011 at 1:35 pm |
  183. Brooke

I think having electronic textbooks would be cool to have and use.

    January 5, 2011 at 1:35 pm |
  184. Erin

I think that we should stay with our traditional way of learning. With paper and books. What will this world come to because if we just use electronics then no one will no how to communicate with each other. They already have people taking online college classes. But it dose conserve paper.

    January 5, 2011 at 1:36 pm |
  185. Kassandra

I think the e-readers will help kids learn better because it will be up dated more often and there will be more information

    January 5, 2011 at 1:37 pm |
  186. Falann

Online textbooks would be a lot better than the book itself. They are more portable and more updated. There aren't enough textbooks for all the students. It saves trees and it would save lots of money instead of constantly buying books for the school.

    January 5, 2011 at 1:37 pm |
  187. Mr. Kemper's class

E-book would be an advantage because of convience, ease of use and entertainment. They are more readily available than textbooks. They are also easier to update.
Disadvantages would include eye strain and stress of trying to care for fragile readers.

    January 5, 2011 at 1:37 pm |
  188. brooks

Best choice is defiently the electronic textbook. We wouldnt have to lug around 4 textbooks

    January 5, 2011 at 1:38 pm |
  189. tyler

I think that they both should be used because if you have to go to history class you need to have the work from that day.

    January 5, 2011 at 1:39 pm |
  190. Marcus

I think we should have electronic text books because we could have books whenever we needed them. And then the books wouldn't have to be replaced every 3 or 4 years.

    January 5, 2011 at 1:39 pm |
  191. robert

The electronic text books will help the students learn better. i think this because they will not have to lung around all the text books. then they will pay more attention in class because they wont be as tired in class

    January 5, 2011 at 1:40 pm |
  192. Arkeith

I think electronic books are cool. I just like them .

    January 5, 2011 at 1:41 pm |
  193. Jason

I think the new electronic textbooks are way better because they are easier to carry and you still learn. They ate also way lighter and they take less room to carry.

    January 5, 2011 at 1:45 pm |
  194. Tiffany

I think online textbooks would be better because text books are really heavy!!!

    January 5, 2011 at 1:45 pm |
  195. Kacie

I think these electronic textbooks are better for learning. I also think if you don't have all the weight on your shoulders, (literally and metaphorically) your grades will go up. You won't have to stress about having the right books or spend time looking for them in your locker and being late.

    January 5, 2011 at 1:46 pm |
  196. Levi

I think that letting the kids have those kind of electronic textbooks is a pretty cool thing, The school I go to gives student 6th through 12th grade macbook laptops.

    January 5, 2011 at 1:46 pm |
  197. cody

I think electronic text books would be a lot better. The school could save so much money, and the students wouldn't have to carry around 5 textbooks they would just have to carry a electronic text book which would be much easier, text books sometimes can get heavy.

    January 5, 2011 at 1:47 pm |
  198. Danielle

I think the electronic text books are better because you get updated information. Also you save money and there are lots of books on them, but you have to be able to focus on what your doing when you have them so you can learn.

    January 5, 2011 at 1:47 pm |
  199. ashleigh

i think traditional text books ruin posture. electronic text books are easier and more supportive of the students and the electronic times we are going through.

    January 5, 2011 at 1:47 pm |
  200. Ms. Maxon's class

Traditional books will help us learn better because we can turn the pages and interact with it.

    January 5, 2011 at 1:50 pm |
  201. Lisa

I believe that having textbooks online are more officiant to use in schools. They make it easier to find needed information in textbooks. I love technology!

    January 5, 2011 at 1:50 pm |
  202. Taliah

I think the Books that have been already used are better. If the electronic device breaks, How much money do you think is going to take to repair it?. Alot!. SO in saying that, I think that the Traditional books are better.

    January 5, 2011 at 1:50 pm |
  203. Hannah

Well I think we should use electronic books because like some of our text books are really old and they don't have the exact answer like who are the 5 senators in the United States? And the electronic books will have the exact answer.

    January 5, 2011 at 1:51 pm |
  204. Jennica

i think that yeah text books might be harder to carry!! Think about it for a sec and well yeah you can find new information with the online textbooks. Also It's better with just textbooks because then you can see about what happend and with the online textbooks you couldn't find the book that you need!!!=)

    January 5, 2011 at 1:51 pm |
  205. ashley

I think traditional textbooks because they are more useful and helpful. because i think there's alot more stuff to learn and there's like alot more important stuff

    January 5, 2011 at 1:51 pm |
  206. Katelyn

I think that schools should start using ebooks, and similar items. If schools would by buy the ebooks it would be a lot cheaper then buying new books every three or four years. It might even get more students into reading because the will literally have the books at their fingertips.

    January 5, 2011 at 1:52 pm |
  207. jimmy

electronics books are better dan regular books because i my self would prefer to carry and ipad than 4 big books.

    January 5, 2011 at 1:52 pm |
  208. Noah

I think the electronic books will be better because it's only one page at a time. It can read it to you on the kindle. You can highlight the important stuff in the text. You don't have to turn old textbook pages if you have on your electronic book.

    January 5, 2011 at 1:52 pm |
  209. hannah

I think that we should stay with the books we have right now because there is internet on them and every thing,so you can be on something you're not suppose to.And then you could get in trouble with it.And I think they should be able to lower the book coasts on the old books that we have right now.I also thing that the nooks would break allot easer then our hard covered books,so I think we should all switch to hard covered books.

    January 5, 2011 at 1:53 pm |
  210. Donovan

I say Electronic books because it would be easy for us students , we will not have to carry all of our books or our back wouldn't hurt either.

    January 5, 2011 at 1:54 pm |
  211. kanesha

i would rather have the e book than the regular one. Because the e book gets updated more often, but the regular text book you would have to buy a new one every time it gets updated. Plus its just taking up room and space for things that you may need thats important and you may need.

    January 5, 2011 at 1:54 pm |
  212. Noah

I think we should and shouldn't because it could waste energy by charging them. We could use them though because there light, and they wont give you a hunch back when you are older. It wold take a lot of time to get them all set up down load the books, so I think we should get them in 3 years or so, and we would have to take a lot of care of it, and it might cost a lot if you broke it.

    January 5, 2011 at 1:55 pm |
  213. Kenyata

...our books are centuries old and heavy. I would much rather like an ipad or a nook or something of that nature

    January 5, 2011 at 1:55 pm |
  214. Sam

Online textbooks are a very good idea. Having constantly updated information being provided to students is important, because outdated information is deficient to learning. Having to carry only one very light and very useful item around as a means of learning is easier and more efficient, because there is less page flipping and more work being done. Along with that is the decrease in financial capital needed to supply students with learning material if devices are used in place of textbooks. All in all, online textbooks are the best idea since sliced bread.

    January 5, 2011 at 1:56 pm |
  215. zocola

I would rather have electronic books because it would be a lot easier to handle.

    January 5, 2011 at 1:56 pm |
  216. alizah

i would rather have a ipad because it would be more interesting.. if i was reading a traditional text book i would fall asleep. as the ipad it would keep me awake just because it a touch screen.

    January 5, 2011 at 1:56 pm |
  217. Isela

I think the Texbook would be more better and more easy for everyone

    January 5, 2011 at 1:56 pm |
  218. Brandon

I believe electronic books are more better than the traditional books because everyone can learn faster that way. What i mean is all the students will have a better education... So its a good way to learn things a whole lot more quicker.

    January 5, 2011 at 1:56 pm |
  219. crystal

i think that a electronic textbook would be great to carry around without having to hurt yourself or going back and forth to you'r locker just to get a book that you might need for you'r next class.

    January 5, 2011 at 1:56 pm |
  220. Daniel

I think many students will learn the same amount from electronic textbooks as they would from standard textbooks, but those who are less enthusiastic about reading may be encouraged to read by the sheer novelty of ebooks.

    January 5, 2011 at 1:57 pm |
  221. danielle

I think we should use electronic books because the can save money over time, but they can also break easy. They have updated information and
would be eaeser to carry around

    January 5, 2011 at 1:57 pm |
  222. Bailey

Why lug around heavy, old textbooks when you can carry a Miniscule Electronic textbook? At the same time, Electronic textbooks might not have the information that the textbooks have. If you are trying to write a history paper, it would be better to use the textbooks because I think you can trust that information better than any internet source, but if you are doing more up to date things, then the electronic textbook would be my call. It all depends on what your studying at that time period.

    January 5, 2011 at 1:57 pm |
  223. jessica

i think the electronic book device is an exelent idea it well make the students want to read more its learning better

    January 5, 2011 at 1:57 pm |
  224. Tre

I think that we should have i pads for books and not text books because we only have little space in our book bag`s and the teacher has to realize that we have other classes to so this is why i think we should have the i pads

    January 5, 2011 at 1:58 pm |
  225. Steff

Yes,I think that the online textbooks would be a lot better because then the students would not have to worry about trying to take all of there books for class to class.....it would be easier on the students and teachers...because the teachers would not have to worry about having a text book each student.

    January 5, 2011 at 1:58 pm |
  226. Colton

I do not believe that there would be a difference in learning on an electronic device rather than a textbook. I think that using an electronic device would bring us cheaper book prices and the luxury of not having to carry six textbooks, but instead only one device. My only concern is that if your electronic device breaks then you dont have your books.

    January 5, 2011 at 1:58 pm |
  227. Thomas

Electronic books might be better to save the environment, but technology has a way of distracting people from the original purpose. I think that the teens will at least try to find a way to be distracted because that's what usually happens.

    January 5, 2011 at 2:00 pm |
  228. Michael

I think that the electronic way to learn can add a more serene place for education.

    January 5, 2011 at 2:00 pm |
  229. Brendan

I love technology and think it is a good idea for some people but I think you should have to earn it as a priviledge and if you are irresponsible with the e-reader it should be taken away.

    January 5, 2011 at 2:00 pm |
  230. Lester

I think it would be much easier to carry around an electronic book rather than a traditional book. You can upload as many books as you want onto the electronic resource insted of carrying around all your books for every class

    January 5, 2011 at 2:00 pm |
  231. Samantha

I think that the electronic books are better since it is always updated and it will be alot lighter then carring around a lot of heavy text books.

    January 5, 2011 at 2:00 pm |
  232. Sean

because they'll help better than books there also cool

    January 5, 2011 at 2:01 pm |
  233. Danielle

I think that the same text books should only be used because what if you break the tec text books and you just wasted money on you old one well i pick books no tec.
    Danielle:)

    January 5, 2011 at 2:02 pm |
  234. Abelardo

I think Electronic books would work better in schools because students like whats in style and the students put more attention into electronics. Why not supply students with something they'll put attention or bring their focus. Thats whats in style now barely no one likes books. They find textbooks boring.

    January 5, 2011 at 2:03 pm |
  235. Sergio

I think they should use digital books because technology is advancing and we have to keep up.Or years from now kids will think why didnt they do that.

    January 5, 2011 at 2:04 pm |
  236. Jensen

Teenagers today do everything online. We post what we are feeling, who we like, or what we are doing after school. We learn things about other people from the internet all the time. Electronic readers would be the same thing, but different subjects. I think that students would learn better because we all love being on a social network site, electronic readers could be the next big thing.

    January 5, 2011 at 2:05 pm |
  237. Jeremy

Yeha buddy this is a good idea i have been wating for this idea to come because it is more convenient so you dont have to walk around wih a bunch of books. But then again i think it can be a big distraction because kids can or will go on twitter, facebook when they are suppose to be doing there work. Thanks carl stay fly

    January 5, 2011 at 2:05 pm |
  238. Matt

I think that the electronic text books are a great idea. It will be much easier for students to find the book they are looking for if everything is done electronically and everything will be up to date. Another great plus about this idea is that they don't wear and tear like normal text books! Which means schools will not have to constantly by new ones.

    January 5, 2011 at 2:06 pm |
  239. Adrian

Electronic books are better because they weight less and they're easier to take without having to take those huge textbooks and schools would same a lot of money.

    January 5, 2011 at 2:09 pm |
  240. Abel

Technology is better, but spending will never go away.

    January 5, 2011 at 2:09 pm |
  241. Robert

i think we would learn better because all your textbooks could be put into a single device so you wont have to carry a bunch of books from class to class or from school to your house.
i think it would also encourage people to do their homework.

    January 5, 2011 at 2:09 pm |
  242. Amanda

I think using an electronic book would help students learn, only because they are so used to using electronics now days. also.. reading out of a traditional textbook is so boring.

    January 5, 2011 at 2:10 pm |
  243. Sara

Either way, whether you are reading a text book or are reading the same story off of a Kindle, it shouldn't affect your education. I think it comes down to each student's personal preference. Personally I think that if you can learn from reading a text book, you can learn from reading a digital book.

    January 5, 2011 at 2:10 pm |
  244. Kyle

I think that electronic readers are a good thing. They're expensive, but they're a whole lot cheaper than having to replace textbooks every few years.

    January 5, 2011 at 2:13 pm |
  245. Chad

I believe that textbooks are the traditional learning tool, however we live in a world of advancing technology. We should take hold of the opportunity to use it, the ability to carry a library of knowledge in a device that can easily be carried around, quick and easy acess to specific points, facts, and figures. Acess to all of your assignments anywhere. Highlight important pieces of information without having it perminatly scored into the book. The potential of the electronic textbooks is endless, and should be taken into the classrooms for use as soon as possible.

    January 5, 2011 at 2:14 pm |
  246. Blanca

Well I think we should get an upgrade on techonogly. I mean it is 2011. So, I sure think it's an good idea to get whatever we need to get instead of carring 20 pounds out books. Also, those that work with those techonogly are making money as well as we well once we get a good and more exciting learning experience. I mean, students might stop dropping out and students might even wanna wake up in the morning wanted to go learn on the newest techonogly.

    January 5, 2011 at 2:16 pm |
  247. CSR

It deffinatelly would make the school a better place to be at, and it seems like a good investment to save money over the years.

    January 5, 2011 at 2:17 pm |
  248. Maria

I think that it would be better for every one if all the students had an electronic textbook because you would have all the books and textbooks at your finger tips instead of carrying all of your books when you only need them for one thing.

    January 5, 2011 at 2:32 pm |
  249. Angelo

...I think an electronic books are better becuse they can be updated every day and so you can sarch up things for classwork or projects

    January 5, 2011 at 2:33 pm |
  250. Jenna

Adults like to stay in their old ways because they know them well, but kids these days like everything electronic. So it might even encourage them to do their homework because it's on a screen. I would enjoy it. Plus, a lot of highschoolers especially, have been having shoulder and back problems because of the weight in their backpacks. This would change all of that.

    January 5, 2011 at 2:36 pm |
  251. Mr. Coll's Class

We voted, at it was about 75% to 25% in favor of e-books. Some students prefer the traditional book. The smell and feel of the book. People on an e-book may be more likely to play games. Others said e-books are cool.E-books would eventually pay for themselves and save schools money.

    January 5, 2011 at 2:42 pm |
  252. Gabe

Electronic teztbooks are easier to carry around then those 6 pound textbooks and you can get all the books you need when you need them.

    January 5, 2011 at 2:46 pm |
  253. Erich

Electronic books would be better for learning, because there's something about techknowledge that makes students love it. So we would read more and study, the test results would sky rocket.

    January 5, 2011 at 2:46 pm |
  254. Panda

I, personally, like online books because they are lighter, and your backpack could be lighter.

    January 5, 2011 at 2:49 pm |
  255. hannah

yes I think this a very good idea becuase you wont have to worry about being responsible for all the text books and it will be updated daily!

    January 5, 2011 at 2:52 pm |
  256. Page

A mechanical textbook would be a wonderful additions to school teaching. If they do decide to give a digital twist to reading, then I will be very excited. Go electronic textbooks!

    January 5, 2011 at 2:58 pm |
  257. Alexis

I think personally that the trationanal text books are just as good. They are physically better for you (it's good exersize). Also the kindel is easy to brake and just like a computer it's possiable that it could have malfunctions, unlike a normal book. I think that it is more fun to be able to flip through a book.

    January 5, 2011 at 2:58 pm |
  258. Gabe

Electronic textbooks are easier to carry around then those 6 pound textbooks and you can get all the books you need when you need them.

    January 5, 2011 at 3:00 pm |
  259. Samantha

most teens say they have back issues from these old heavy books i think the electronic books will serve as a very nice antidote for that but teachers would probably have to monitor student because they would probably try to go onto the internet! (I know I would)

    January 5, 2011 at 3:06 pm |
  260. Justin

I think they should have electronic textbooks because they might want to read more.

    January 5, 2011 at 3:09 pm |
  261. Jason

I think using an electronic reader would increase my academics because if you wanted to check out a book from the library you could automatically get it on your reader. Therefore, you would not have to leave the classroom to check books out and the teachers would not have to take time out of their teaching to take you to the library for checkout!

    January 5, 2011 at 3:09 pm |
  262. Jesse

I say that onlne textbooks are a good idea because teens are always on electronics and internet. So they'll be on internet little bit longer than usual. But they'll be doing homework.

    January 5, 2011 at 3:09 pm |
  263. Sarah

Yes, because you would always have updated information. Because some of the text books are old and the information was current when they were printed but years from the time they were printed may have changed. If you had an electronic reader it would be updated and more accurate!

    January 5, 2011 at 3:10 pm |
  264. Audrianna & Ginger

We think that the upgrades on the technology is a great thing! I Mean the traditional books are heavy, expensive, and need to be updated every couple of years. They also take up a lot of space and time for students to get to their class. It doesn't make sense not to move toward a better and brighter future.

    January 5, 2011 at 3:11 pm |
  265. Grace

I don't think it helps you learn....but I do think that it's a good idea. Because it's lighter a updates.

    January 5, 2011 at 3:13 pm |
  266. Maia

I think that the online textbook is much better because of the weight on kid's backs. Just this Monday I had to carry home my usual 3 binders AND a really heavy textbook! It would be SO much better on kids. And when they get home, the kids won't be concentrating on a hurt back instead of their homework. It could cause serious spinal damage!

    January 5, 2011 at 3:14 pm |
  267. Alex

I think that electronic text books would be much better. They require less strength, less space, and less time.

    January 5, 2011 at 3:22 pm |
  268. Cameron

I think regular books are better, when we have had enough video games and electronics, books are our only escape. If we didn't use real books, then it's like we are in an all electronic place! I would need somewhere to give my brain a rest after playing games all day. Electronic books won't help it! If you get rid of books it's like getting rid of our brain.

    January 5, 2011 at 3:23 pm |
  269. Atara

I feel that electronic textbooks would be good for schools around the world. They are not too heavy on our backs and they are easy to carry around with us. There would be no more textbooks that are falling apart. There would also wouldn't be a need to buy new textbooks every 5 years, which could save money. The only issue I think that there would be, is if they broke but I'm sure there is a solution.

    January 5, 2011 at 3:25 pm |
  270. Lyndon

I think that electronic textbooks would improve students reading and I think that because they will have fun and want to read on an electronic textbook. If students had to use it for homework most likely they will have it done since you use the electronic textbooks.

    January 5, 2011 at 3:33 pm |
  271. Elvis

i think electronic text books should be allowed because it makes less wheight for our backpack

    January 5, 2011 at 3:42 pm |
  272. Jenni

I think that Online textbooks are the best way to go because students will acctually want to learn. They will want to be to class on time so they can use a cool online textbook that not everyone gets to use.It will also save schools alot more money every year.

    January 5, 2011 at 3:42 pm |
  273. Casey

I think that it really doesn't matter whether it is online or on paper. I still prefer a book though because you acually have to search for what you need instead of being lazy and looking it up in Google.

    January 5, 2011 at 3:42 pm |
  274. Michaila

I actually got an electronic book for my birthday this year and I think that it might actually help you learn better, but it really depends on the person. Not only are they super tiny compared to regular textbooks, but you can adjust the text size, so you can make those huge intimidating blocks of text bigger and they won't be as scary. The light is adjustable and that sometimes makes it easier for people to read. Another nice thing is if you're trying to do homework on a bus or car in the dark, you can still read your book. Plus, we have all this technology- why don't we put it to good use?

    January 5, 2011 at 3:43 pm |
  275. Alysha

When you using a textbook it doesn't alwaus here the most recent information but with the online text books you will have a chance to know all of what you needthat has hapened recently.

    January 5, 2011 at 3:44 pm |
  276. Sarah

Electronic textbooks will take a load of your back but having a computer like thing in front of you might distract some students. If the teachers can't see what your doing on it than how do they know the students are doing the right thing? I think that if it is a responsible student that go ahead take one. But a bad kid, I don't think its a goo idea.

    January 5, 2011 at 3:45 pm |
  277. Laura

Electronic textbooks may be bad for a student's eyes if they are learning on it for the whole school day. That could lead to brain damage.

    January 5, 2011 at 3:46 pm |
  278. Briona

I think it is Electronic Books because they are easier to hold and you can travel with it. And it will take a huge load off you shoulders.

I personally think that electronic books are better. They're are light-weight which is perfect for people who are always lugging heavy books around. Also, kids in this generation are all about electronics. It could also save tons of paper and millions of trees. They are also cheaper than buying and replacing tons of books.

I think that the text book puts to much weight on kids backs and they come home in pain. Think about just having one single electronic in your backpack will save you from stress . Kids these days are into electronics and they will want to be in it and when they are on it they will learn more info then they do in just a dusty old text book that looks boring and no fun.

I beleive that electronic readers are better for students health because they carry 4 to 6 books in their bags and that can really hurt their back. I think it is better to have electronic books so when they get older they do not have back problems.

    January 5, 2011 at 3:47 pm |
  282. Zack

I think that the school should use the electronic textbooks. Because the traditional textbooks are heavier and you have to have more of them. If you have electronic textbooks it would be less to carry and it would be a lot lighter.

    January 5, 2011 at 3:56 pm |
  283. Yasmeen

I think this idea is okay but there are some ups and downs. The good news? It takes off a couple of pounds to carry around. The bad news? If you drop it your finished and you wont have any books to read.Plus as I said before If you drop it your finished because people will kick it around without noticing. I have always wanted a Nook or a Kindle but I would rather just stick to text books. Your risking a $150 object and you cant just trust any random person not to steal it.

    January 5, 2011 at 3:56 pm |

I think they should use the electronic textbooks because if the students like it they learn better and it's lighter.

  285. Hannah

I think electronic textbooks should be allowed in school. That way you spend the money once and you dont have to keep paying. Then they could just carry that around. Plus it wont be that heavy. But they would have to take good care of their things becuase they break!!!

    January 5, 2011 at 3:58 pm |
  286. Eddie

i say yes because you dont have to get up and look for the book and all that time in the libary.and the school might not even have that book your looking for.

    January 5, 2011 at 3:59 pm |
  287. Amy

I think that there is good things about both. First no one is going to steal a old textbook but not everyone can afford an ipad. Plus an textbook won't be updated like an ipad. Some kids might just play on there favorite sites like youtube and facebook. Also textbooks can be torn easily especially if you take poor care of them.

    January 5, 2011 at 3:59 pm |
  288. Bridget

I think we should use text books because the electronic book might get glitches and if it needed to be charged and the powers out it would be bad and if it gets stolen there expencive to buy.Text books can get ruined but not as bad once you drop your text book its fine when you drop your electronic book it might break and besides text books last longer.

  292. Annah

In my opinion, electronic textbooks are better. Teens are now more interested in technology and might respond better to something in their modern world. You could access the book from anywhere at anytime. Also, manual textbooks are very heavy and can strain the back.

    January 5, 2011 at 4:01 pm |
  293. Daniel

You want have to carry around all those books and things at once. Electronic textbooks will also be just in that classroom and you wont have to carry anything around.

I think that the electronic textbooks would be better and a lot cheaper than getting new textbooks every few years. Some kids that don't normally enjoy reading off of textbooks will probably enjoy school a lot more than they already do.I think electronic textbooks would change school in a lot of ways.

i think the best way to learn is in text books because it's almost the same think really and you tell them read and copy some thinks from the book but they use the other electronic books seach the web use it and find stuff and not reading. Like you should be doing but there not.

i think electronic books are better because you dont have to replace them as much and every time a book rips you got to replace it and that happens once in a while

In my opinion I chose electronic books. Because it's lighter it updates like Carl said and it's better. The only thing is it's more expensive. Well that's all I can think of.

I do agree that electronic textbooks are lighter, but I say they make no difference if you used an electronic textbook or a regular textbook. If something is incorrect, then you get more practice rewriting so it os up-to-date.

My own personal opinion is that textbooks are a good thing. I learn better from the textbooks because it is right in front of me and I can highlight things and turn pages without the fear of the power turning off on the computer or my battery going dead on my e-reader. There is just less worries and I just learn more overall.

electronic textbooks would be good but they might make kids sneak a game onto the device. So, then again, it might not be a good idea.

This is a great idea! It would save schools money and I think it would make kids enthusiastic about reading!

I think regular textbooks are good because you get to interact with it. the electronic books are either just a touch or a tap to turn the page. some kids might not be able to afford the electronic device. also most books cost on the electronic and some kids dont have money for the purchase. yes i know some regular books are warn and torn and written all over but its fine there old. if i can deal with it so can they. i have to lug around all those books and i got used to it if you have a back pack. i can see if you dont have a back pack it might be really hard. in my opnion I THINK REGULAR BOOKS ARE BETTER THAN A ELECTRONIC BOOK.

    January 5, 2011 at 4:22 pm |
  306. Ethan

Electronic textbooks are helpful because if you don't know a word, you can copy and paste it into Google.com and find out. It is also lighter to carry a Kindle then 6 textbooks. Finally, it is also cheaper for the school.

    January 5, 2011 at 4:28 pm |
  307. Drew

I do agree, that electronic textbooks might be lighter than 6 textbooks, but kids can play games on the textbook, instead of reading. oth textbooks have the same reading material. If you can learn from a textbook, you can learn from an electronic device. If there is incorrect information in an old textbook, rewriting it will give you more practice. You can learn from each one. They are both technically books, with the same reading material.

    January 5, 2011 at 4:31 pm |
  308. Courtney

I think the electronic books are better because otherwise the schools would have to keep buying new books every 3 years and it would cost a lot of money. But if they switched to electronic books then they would not only save money-But they would save kids a lot of shoulder aches.

    January 5, 2011 at 4:31 pm |

I do agree that electronic textbooks are lighter, but I say they make no difference if you used an electronic textbook or a regular textbook. If something is incorrect, then you get more practice rewriting so it as up-to-date, as an electronic textbook.

I would say that having the electronic devices will help us because us kids we are the 21st centry we will grow up will this all of out lives so i say yes. And hope thay get them at my school.

I think we should go the electronic way. This would lower the cost of getting textbooks every 4 years. It wouldn't be as much as a hassle for responsibility. The electronic book would also be great for research if you were to get one with wifi.

I have a nook and so I peronally think electronic textbooks are better. Keeping a textbook in my locker is so hard because there is so little room but wih a portible nook I can download my textbooks on there and it would make life easier.

I think that electronic books would be a better idea because carrying around my math english and history books home every day is hard on my back and shoulders but with electronic books the only downside is that if you lose or break your portable device and have no computer acces at home you can only do your homework that requires a book at school and I'm sure not everybody has alot of time at school to do all their work.

I believe that devices like the kendle and ipad would be better for students because text book are heavy and they get defaced all the time.

I think that the education received from online textbooks or traditional doesn't change but this is just our educational systems way of changing with the times. it's not that it's a bad thing but they're just trying to keep students interested in learning.

Even though electronics are more convenient to use than textbooks study skills are better learned thout textbooks. I believe that we should stick with textbooks, because that is one of the last real old fashioned things.

I think a Kindle would be good idea because you could get to the textbooks you are using better and it would save you from having a bad back. I also think the Kindle could be distracting.

I think it would be better to have an digital reader because then your locker would stay more organized...not so many textbooks. I also think that an IPad would be more distracting because you could get to

I think that online textbooks would actually help me learn better because today’s kids are more involved with computers and technology, and they would feel more comfortable reading from a computer then a textbook.

    January 5, 2011 at 5:06 pm |
  325. Amadi

I think that electronic textbooks are better because they are small and its not as big and super heavy like books can be. If my school had them it would be AWESOME! You would have less things in your desk and locker...you could stay more organized.

    January 5, 2011 at 5:08 pm |
  326. Towanda

I personally think it depends on how you learn best. People who are audible or hands on learners might benefit more from reading an electronic book because you may use the settings that can read it to you. But I also think it promotes laziness because you are not really reading and absorbing the knowlege.

    January 5, 2011 at 5:08 pm |
  327. Megan

I don’t think that it is about if we learn more or not, I think it has to do with how much more money school boards would save. They spend thousands of dollars on textbooks each year, so why not transfer to digital ones that could save a ton of money?

    January 5, 2011 at 5:08 pm |
  328. Nathan

I think I would learn better with a traditional book. You can write important things in them or highlight certain areas of the book if you need to write a paper with that book. Electronical books would be pretty cool, just not as simple as a normal book would be.

    January 5, 2011 at 5:09 pm |
  329. Tim

I think it would be easier for people to learn with online text books. I think this because it is easy accessibility and students would not have to drag large books to and from school every day. It would also be better because the information would be updated more often to ensure more accurate information and to save money on buying new books every year.

    January 5, 2011 at 5:09 pm |
  330. Katie

I think online textbooks would be harder to learn from because with a book in hand you can write notes next to the content, and with an online textbook you really wouldn’t be able to.

    January 5, 2011 at 5:09 pm |
  331. Jefe

I think that using technology as a substitute would be a great idea in school because the modern day students are more comfortable and know their way around technology better than they would with textbooks. However this could create a problem for some teachers if/when students find out how to install games.

    January 5, 2011 at 5:10 pm |
  332. Anna

I believe having electronic books would be a good and bad thing at the same time. It would be a positive thing because its alot easier than carring big text books around school. The negative thing would be that teenagers are becoming to reliant on technology. Depending on the type of student, the positives and negatives can range greatly.

    January 5, 2011 at 5:10 pm |
  333. Micah

I don’t think it would help us learn better I think it would just distract us on how amazing it is. But it would be better and cheaper for schools and students.

    January 5, 2011 at 5:10 pm |
  334. Rachel

I think using online textbooks would help me learn better because it would give a better variety of information, it would make me more excited to do my homework and it would make it a lot easier to transport.

    January 5, 2011 at 5:10 pm |
  335. Eva

Electronic textbooks don't help kids learn but they help so they don't have to carry around all of their books. Overall, I don't like the idea of digital books.

    January 5, 2011 at 5:11 pm |
  336. Emma

I see both sides of this conflict. We are saving trees by using electronic text books, but what if the electronic textbook runs out of batteries, or breaks? Then what would you do?

    January 5, 2011 at 5:11 pm |
  337. Andrew

I think that you would learn so much more with online book because instead of looking threw the book turning page after page getting frustrated because you can’t find what you are looking for in the book on an online book you could just type in what you are looking for and what you need to know and you will get it and you would have to take so much time finding what you are looking for and you could remember it better because you didn’t have to read as much.

    January 5, 2011 at 5:11 pm |
  338. Bri

students would benefit more from having online textbooks. Not only would they not have to pack around heavy books but if its online you would never have to worry about forgetting your textbook at School. And if it's on our cell phones we could do our homework anywhere, not just at a table. Getting work done would be a lot easier to accomplish and less stressful.

    January 5, 2011 at 5:11 pm |
  339. Jordan

I do think people could learn better from online textbooks because even though it doesn’t change the material I do believe people would be more likely to read more because they have easy access to the online textbook and it’s a more fun way to learn. Also kids today are used to using technology every day.

    January 5, 2011 at 5:11 pm |
  340. kyle

I think that online textbooks would just open up a door for distractions. It would make learning more fun for sure but personally I cant stay focused enough even with regular textbooks. It might be cheaper in the long run as well but I just don’t see this change happening any time soon.

    January 5, 2011 at 5:12 pm |
  341. Kelsey

I don’t necessarily think that students would “learn better” with electronic books or with textbooks, because, for the most part, they have the same content, and it depends on whether or not the student pays attention to it. There are some cases where electronic books may be more up to date, and it would certainly help not only with making transportation easier, but it would also cost less to buy one set of electronic books than to keep replacing textbooks over the years. As I said, though, the actual learning depends on the student. Some students may prefer doing things with technology, and some may prefer real books, but as long as the content is the same, it only comes down to how well the student uses the information they find.

I think that a ebook is a lot more money than a text book but I do feel that using text books could save in costing of resources. puting a ebook in to schools is a unstable subject, there are all types of problumes, but yes, a ebook would be better to learn from.

I think that having an electronic textbook would an awesome thing to have at our school, but I also think that it would be a big distraction to students and that students might think there so cool that people would start to steal them.

    January 5, 2011 at 5:14 pm |
  344. Kyler

I believe that textbooks are the traditional learning tool; however we live in a world of advancing technology. We should take hold of the opportunity to use it, the ability to carry a library of knowledge in a device that can easily be carried around, quick and easy access to specific points, facts, and figures. Also highlight important pieces of information without having it permanently scored into the book. The potential of the electronic textbooks is endless, and should be taken into the classrooms for use as soon as possible. If students start using electronic textbooks instead of traditional then they couldn’t get fined for damage to books.

    January 5, 2011 at 5:14 pm |

  347. Amanda

I think that it would be easier to carry around the electronic book as well as being able to take it home, but kids might read a different book then they are supposed to. I am 50/50 leaning more toward electronic because it would be easier, neater and you would stay more oranganized. I think they would be expensive...who would pay for them?

    January 5, 2011 at 5:15 pm |
  348. Jayson

I think before schools switch to online textbooks they need to try both for a while to se switch would work better. It would be less expensive in the long run. If it were me I wouldn’t benefit because technology seems to hate me and I would end up learning worse. I would get hung up on the user aspect and not retain the information. I can’t speak for everyone but I’m not the best with technology. I think if the school board will benefit from more technological training in schools before upgrading to online textbooks.

    January 5, 2011 at 5:16 pm |

I think that you can learn better with an electronic device because it can be faster to get to an answer.

    January 5, 2011 at 5:16 pm |
  350. charlie

I think that you would probably learn more just because the online ones probably have more info in them and they would be a lot easier to carry around and to transport to other places. And you would have much more room in your locker as well for more valuables of yours to put in there. I also think students would learn faster because they wouldn’t have to take the time to look for the info cuz they can just type what they want to find out.

    January 5, 2011 at 5:18 pm |
  351. isaiah

I think students should be able to use electronic textbooks because not only are they heavy, they do not have all of the right information.

    January 5, 2011 at 5:21 pm |
  352. Arianna

I think it would help me learn because i would be more intrested in it but if you looked at it all day your eyes could burn.

    January 5, 2011 at 5:23 pm |
  353. Emma

The main, and only, reason for switching to electronic textbooks would be out of convenience. Yes this would make the information up to date, but this shows how the world is becoming more dependent on technology. This alters brain function, lowering attention spans and makes it harder to teach. So in result the US students would have lowered scores and have a higher chance for obesity, setting us back farther in the world race.

    January 5, 2011 at 5:25 pm |

I think that online textbooks are a good idea because you dont have to carry around all the regular textbooks which are so heavy

    January 5, 2011 at 5:26 pm |
  355. nutmeg

i kind of go both ways. i think that the only reason that people want to have these instead of textbooks is because their too lazy and don't feel like carrying it around everywhere. This is a good thing to have because it will cost less to get the electronic equipment, but its also has no purpose really because it will cost the same amount, maybe even more just to download it. so it would probably be easier just to keep the textbooks.

    January 5, 2011 at 5:26 pm |
  356. Will

I think that having textbooks to carry around would be too heavy and Kindles and IPads are better, but if you had an IPad you could play games instead of focusing on your work, so you would get in trouble.

  360. Tori

I would rather have electronic books. Most students have to carry textbooks everywhere they go during school and after. Electronic books would be much lighter, and there's only one. That way it's less space to waste in our lockers and not having to worry about grabbing the wrong book. Not to mention, the school money can go to something that would last longer.

Kids love electronics so electronic textbooks might hold their attention. Although, if they would break thier online textbook it would be more expensive to replace.

I say that onlne textbooks are a good idea because teens are always on electronics and internet. So they'll be on internet little bit longer than usual. But they'll be doing homework. I think we all need electronic text books for high school because we have so many classes. It would be easyer on us and the teachers. Then we could have more time in class. Kids these days like everything electronic. So it might even encourage them to do their homework because it's on a screen. I would enjoy it. Plus, a lot of highschoolers especially, have been having shoulder and back problems because of the weight in their backpacks. This would change all of that.

    January 5, 2011 at 5:46 pm |
  367. alex

MY opinion is that there's 2 answers.I would say yes because there is so much weight lifted off your back, but i would also say no because some people might get distracted by the looks and stuff like that and just forget about what they talking about and looking at in class.

    January 5, 2011 at 5:51 pm |
  368. Sarah

I prefer the tradional textbooks over electronic textbooks because it would be easier to compare something in the book. Also if anything were to happen to your electronic textbook you would not have a textbook to use and you may get behind in class.

I think electronic books are better. Kids in junior high and high school seem to pay more attention to things that are electronic. I know I do. I am in junior high, so I kind of understand how electronic books are better. The original books waste paper.

    January 5, 2011 at 5:58 pm |
  370. Nicole

I think that electronic book devices are better. Some students may struggle whenever they have to carry around all of those heavy textbooks. Electronic ones are much lighter to use and, to me, more exciting.

    January 5, 2011 at 6:02 pm |
  371. Celia

Traditional textbooks are better because it's easier to find information and is more organized. Also, the electronic ones would be more expensive to buy.

    January 5, 2011 at 6:02 pm |
  372. Rachel

Kids will acidentally break online text books sooner or later, and some families might not be able to replace them. Also kids might be distracted trying to do last minute homework in class and get away with it since the e book is so much smaller than a textbook

    January 5, 2011 at 6:04 pm |
  373. Niomi

If any book should be picked, it would be the electronic one. Every school day is another day of carrying heavy, boring books around. Electronic books are lighter. They could probably fit into an accordion folder, or a regular binder. Students also need their textbooks for class. Many students "Leave their textbooks in their locker." With the electronic one, all of the books they need will be right there with you when you go to class.

i think that if peolpe have nook or ipod touch or the thing that you can get a book on then they should be aloud to have there books on them, but will hope to the kids with out a thing that they can raed a book on like a nook or a ipod touch and a ipad or thing like that ?!?

    🙂 🙂

    January 5, 2011 at 6:10 pm |
  375. Rayna

Ebooks would be much better. It's really light, fun to use, and there won't be any problem with damages to the book you are using.

    January 5, 2011 at 6:14 pm |
  376. Garrett

I vote for the electronics would be the best option because you would have to pay alot of money but you wouldn't have to keep paying every few years for new textbooks

    January 5, 2011 at 6:19 pm |
  377. Cheyenne

I think the new textbook is a realy good idea. But you will still have to update them. I dont have to take home many books on homework nights but when i do my backpack is very heavy. I woudnt mind haveing one of these.

    January 5, 2011 at 6:20 pm |
  378. Grace

I think that carrying around books is just a part of your school years. It may be tough, but it is definitely not the biggest issue that we Americans face

    January 5, 2011 at 6:21 pm |
  379. Jessica

I think you should do electronic books because then you have less stuff to carry 🙂

    January 5, 2011 at 6:22 pm |
  380. JESSICA

I think that people our age just enjoy using technology. It doesn't matter if it's the computer, a cell phone, or an i-pad! So, I think kids would use it more often. It would help your back and your brain!!

    January 5, 2011 at 6:26 pm |
  381. Mr. Rogers Class

After discussing it as a class, we see both sides of the arguement. Digital textbooks would cost less money over a period of time. On the other hand, textbooks would not have the problem of ensuring online safety for each student.

    January 5, 2011 at 6:27 pm |
  382. Maya

I think that having the electronic textbooks would be better for the learning experience of many kids across the world because it is updated information and better to the children's health that they might even have better backs in their future life. Also the schools would only have to buy the systems once instead of repeatedly over the years.

    January 5, 2011 at 6:28 pm |
  383. Grifin

Me personally I like textbooks. But in the long term as far as if students keep them in perfect condition it would save money. Which I doubt they will. Textbooks will not break versus things like the kindle will. So I think textbooks win.

    January 5, 2011 at 6:28 pm |
  384. Kaylee

I think we should keep using Traditional textbooks because the Electronic books we would have to charge all the time and could break easily if dropped!

    January 5, 2011 at 6:30 pm |
  385. Selena

I think the electronic book would be great! I am a bookworm, so I would love to replace 3 books and a mathbook for a little device. But what if a student doesn't take good care of the electronic? Will their parents have to pay for it?

    January 5, 2011 at 6:32 pm |
  386. Kaylee

I think we should use Electronic books beacause it would be so much more fun and would be a lot less $

    January 5, 2011 at 6:32 pm |
  387. Rachel

While I do not believe that kids would learn 'better' with an electronic textbook, the oppertunites for learning are far greater. New information would be available instantly. Unless an Issues texbook was printed in the last two years it would not be able to tell you that Barack Obama was the current president, and unless it was printed this afternoon it wouldn't be able to tell you anything about the 112th congress or the change of power that goes with it. Electronic texbooks also provide potenial for interactives with a student and direct feedback. A kid could know right away if their math problems were right and they could have that as immediate feedback.

    January 5, 2011 at 6:37 pm |
  388. Travis

I am an avid reader, but I am entirely against the Nook and Kindle. I know it sounds wierd, but I enjoy smell of new textbooks and the feel of paper under my fingers. Papercuts are par for the course. Besises, in my school we get enough worktime that I utilize well enough so that I have no heavy textbooks to haul around.
Also, you never know what students might be downloading onto them and possibly read something different in class instead of the assignment.

    January 5, 2011 at 6:38 pm |
  389. Larkin

Electronic textbooks would help students learn not only the given material in an easy-to-use way but also would help show that technology isn't just chatting on Facebook, and can help you in school even more than the internet already does.

    January 5, 2011 at 6:43 pm |
  390. Nora

Electronic textbooks cost less money and are very light. Students can take them anywhere. I thinks it's a good learning tool.

    January 5, 2011 at 6:43 pm |
  391. Anieyssa

Electronic books would be less money and a better way to educate the student body. Most kids would have an easier way to learn if they had the book right there. It would mean a less heavier load to carry on your back. I think it is a great idea! (:

    January 5, 2011 at 6:48 pm |
  392. Dakota

The electronic books are a good idea . Kids wouldn't have to strain there shoulders while there carrying the electronic books. Also the electronic books would prevent some bullying when kids get stuff like books knocked out of there hands because if they do then they would have to pay for a new one. Some bad things is if they die in class or break on the bus. I say "ALL SCHOOLS SHOULD HAVE THEM".

    January 5, 2011 at 6:53 pm |
  393. Maggie

My opinion is that they are not really different at all except the wieght!!

    January 5, 2011 at 6:54 pm |
  394. Brenden

I think that text-books should go digital because tradtional text-books are to heavy for students to be carrying around when you hav 5 to 10 text-books to carry home.

    January 5, 2011 at 6:56 pm |
  395. Kennedy

I think the electronic books would be better than traditional. Traditional books are heavy and wear out as in electronic books.

    January 5, 2011 at 6:59 pm |
  396. Katarina

I would personally love to use that instead of carrying around books. From freshman to senior year your textbooks get bigger and heavier. Being able to carry one device with all my books on it would change everything. I'd love it for college next year!

    January 5, 2011 at 7:00 pm |
  397. Saki

I don't think that students learn better with the electronic textbooks. It is true that it is light and it leads to the reduction of the cost. However, students cannot write on the textbook and it is not good for their eyes, too. Therefore, I disagree with the idea!

    January 5, 2011 at 7:01 pm |
  398. Mrs.Spielmans class

We think that text-books should go digital because tradtional text-books are to heavy for students to be carrying around when you hav 5 to 10 text-books to carry home.

    January 5, 2011 at 7:02 pm |
  399. Destiny

textbooks are usually around $35, 1 ebook would probably be expensive, ebooks for the whole class would be very expensive and they are so small they would get lost much easier!=)

    January 5, 2011 at 7:03 pm |
  400. megan

it may be a great idea, but then again children may loose or, damage the'book'. Kids are Kids. That won't change.

    January 5, 2011 at 7:05 pm |
  401. Mehvish

I think we should use it electronic books because it will help students and save alot of money with the board, and if we do that it will help us in the future.

    January 5, 2011 at 7:06 pm |
  402. Jet

Regular textbooks and digital textbooks both have their advantages and disadvantages. Regular textbooks is what students are familiar with and doesn't need batteries or a charge to operate. Regular textbooks can be a hassle to carry but a digital textbook may be much easier to carry around school. Overall schools should stick to the traditional textbook. It is what students are familiar with and is more simple and easy to read and operate.

    January 5, 2011 at 7:17 pm |
  403. Tiegan

I think kids would have more energy to do their homework if they don't drag 3 or 4 books around. It might help them study better, but LEARNING is a different story.

    January 5, 2011 at 7:29 pm |
  404. Sarah

i think that we have to use ipad in class accessarily. Textbooks are more convenient to study intensively. On the other hand, ipad that have visual apps for studying would be helpful for understanding unfamiliar things.

    January 5, 2011 at 7:29 pm |
  405. Samantha

I think it only matters about the quantity of the number of textbooks. If there isn't enough textbooks for every one, then the electronic books will be better. But then there's also the possibility that some people can brake or steal the electronic book. So then you have to replace them. But then again, It can store all the book's in the library in it. So then you don't have to replace every book every year. So therefor, electronic books are better and more wiser to have, then normal textbooks.

    January 5, 2011 at 7:29 pm |
  406. Emma

I think the electronic book would be a great idea and we would really be into it! But they would cost a lot so we would most likely not be able to keep them or every student would have to pay for them. It would not be very cheap. But if we got a deal on it then Im all for it I would love to have a kindle or a electronic book!

    January 5, 2011 at 7:30 pm |
  407. amber

it would help improve your posture to have the online textbooks but they're just the same as any old texbook except the weight of the tetbooks but they would reduce the strain on your back regular textbooks give you

    January 5, 2011 at 7:34 pm |
  408. Jackie

I think schools should use electronic books because it will be easier to keep students organized and with textbooks they sometimes rip and tear and then sometimes you have to buy the books even if the damage was accidental. We would also have to less things to carry and it would be easier to transfer classes at school.

    January 5, 2011 at 7:39 pm |
  409. Latisha

I think electronic books might help. It reduces the weight that students have to carry and I think because it is electronic students might pay more attention. Also they are always updated and there are many books just in the one device.

    January 5, 2011 at 7:42 pm |
  410. Selika

I personally think that the electronic text book would be easier to learn from. I think that would be easier for all students and it would not cost the school as much.

    January 5, 2011 at 7:43 pm |
  411. Mollie

It would be harder for us to use online textbooks because you have to search the pages and wait for the book to load which cuts back on time in the class room actually learning come on has it come to the point that we are so lazy that we cant open to the page of a book instead of being lazy and trying to let the computer do everything for us

    January 5, 2011 at 7:45 pm |
  412. Leslie

I would go with the digital text books, because then a sutdent can research further, for information with google or any other helpful website if they are confused about something rather than being limited to the information of a specific text book.

    January 5, 2011 at 7:59 pm |
  413. kitana

well i think digital text books would be more fun and regular text books would be more stuff to carry so i would go with digital text books

    January 5, 2011 at 8:02 pm |
  414. Farnsworth

I'll be honest. Sometimes I don't do my homework because I don't want to take a textbook home. You can call me lazy, but I am. I feel having a light weight electronic textbook would not decrease my grade, but increase them.

    January 5, 2011 at 8:07 pm |
  415. Even

We are going into a electronic age and we need to keep up with society even if it means changing normal text books into I-pads and such.

    January 5, 2011 at 8:14 pm |
  416. Katia

I'm not sure which I want. I mean, yeah, several times I had to get a new backpack because the old one broke, and yeah, my back gets sore from the heavy books, but with the electronical books, you have to also make sure that each student has wi-fi or a computer, and that they have the right books. i think it would just be easier to make smaller books and recycle the old ones.

    January 5, 2011 at 8:15 pm |
  417. Michelle

When thinking fiscally, digital textbooks are great for long term use. Whereas on the other hand there is the fact that they are more vulnerable to breaking, especially with irresponsible kids. In addition, they would be just one more piece of technology that we are continuously relying upon..already we depend on technology way to much. What would we do if for some reason we could no longer use technology?

    January 5, 2011 at 8:17 pm |
  418. Zachary

I think an electronic textbook would definitely be a lot lighter and would be a lot easier to carry. They would be more up to date than a regular textbook seeing as a regular textbook is only updated every 7 years. Though they may cause a distraction in class and it would be hard to keep kids focused, overall I think electronic textbooks are better.

    January 5, 2011 at 8:18 pm |
  419. Molly

i think that online textbooks would be a good thing because kids love electronics and they would pay more attention.

    January 5, 2011 at 8:31 pm |
  420. dylan

i think we should get electronic books instead of carrying around 5 books or more. I think that it would probably make it easier for students to read to if the books read to you. then it would make reading a lot better!! our school needs those!!!!!

    January 5, 2011 at 8:42 pm |
  421. julia

honestly traditional textbooks are better you will only get distracted

    January 5, 2011 at 8:45 pm |
  422. Nathan

I would think that the old type of textbook makes a sufficent way to learn. I would not transfer so well with having grown up on the old type for so long.

    January 5, 2011 at 8:50 pm |
  423. Alex

I believe that electronics are more effiecient to work with because of the easy use of it. If you need to do a word search using a text book, it'll take you forever to find it. But with electronics, it's just one simple click away. Not to mention electronics will last years with proper care. It will also help with the weight issue in your backpack. I know I got a hunch back from carrying those books all day back in high school.

    January 5, 2011 at 8:53 pm |
  424. Ravyn

I see that digital text books are better because, the books and information will always be updated so all of your facts will be correct. Unlike some books that can't be updated unless you buy new ones and that would cost a fortune.

    January 5, 2011 at 8:57 pm |
  425. Manya

I think we should have new textbooks on Ipads and stuff like that to save money and it will be easier for the teachers and the students.
But at the same time, I think we should keep textbooks just in case.

    January 5, 2011 at 9:00 pm |
  426. Cade

I think that it would be a good idea because more kids would want to do more work connsidering that it is kind of like a video game, but my class and I were talking and it would cost a lot of money to pay for it and the updates and the virus protection and stuff like that and also if you lost it that would be a lot of money just to buy a new one not including all of the extras.

    January 5, 2011 at 9:05 pm |
  427. Nick

I personally prefer electronic, you don't have to carry as much stuff as you would if you had regular textbooks.

    January 5, 2011 at 9:08 pm |
  428. Spencer

I believe that elecctronic textbooks would save students from future back problems and in the long run these books would save a ton of money.

    January 5, 2011 at 9:32 pm |
  429. MaddiE

i think that having digital textbooks will be good because with all of the books that i have and all the folders. and notebooks my backpack weighs over 20 pounds. Also you can ajust the words to a size that you can read so we would be better off going digital

    January 5, 2011 at 9:33 pm |
  430. Spensor

the old books we have are just fine, only the books that are damaged should be replaced

    January 5, 2011 at 9:35 pm |
  431. Rebekah

I feel that traditional books are best for classes because there is no need for schools to spend extra money along with the budget cuts.

    January 5, 2011 at 9:40 pm |
  432. Kyle

No, they should just stick with regular textbooks. Some or most schools are trying to conserve as much money as possible, and getting devices for everyone would cost tons and tons of money. It will also wind up as a distraction in class.

    January 5, 2011 at 9:41 pm |
  433. Braydon

I think traditional textbooks would be better because students could just have the book to learn things and not an electronic device that they could be on another website instead of their textbook website.

    January 5, 2011 at 9:53 pm |
  434. Dalton

I think the electronic books are better. They take a LOT off of our shoulders. The electronic textbooks are also cheaper. I wish my school would change!

    January 5, 2011 at 9:53 pm |
  435. Nick

I think electronic text books should be used if it is proven to save money and help kids learn better, but schools should also have regular textbooks incase you or someone else looses it or breaks it.

    January 5, 2011 at 9:54 pm |
  436. paige

i think it would be better if we have our textbooks on an e-reader it would mean lighter bookbags and i know that i would enjoy having a lighter backpack because mine is to heavy carring all my textbooks to and from home everyday.

    January 5, 2011 at 9:58 pm |
  437. Josh

I think it is a great idea. Not only because you don't have to worry about carrying so many books around but because you have multiple books in one. But it might be crazy if you lost or damaged it!

    January 5, 2011 at 10:20 pm |
  438. Marcus

Traditional textbooks adds more weight to carry in your backpacks so you would be tried in the class so you fall a sleep and the books would get damaged over time. Eectronic books are light weight to carry, easier to get info, and could save schools thousands of dollars for other supplies.

    January 5, 2011 at 10:35 pm |
  439. melanie

i would say that using the electronic text books would keep the students learning because technology is all kids use now in days and thats what kids want to learn with. yes not everyone can afford it. because i am sure that their going to make your taxes go to these new electronic text books. and also not all kids get to use electroinc things that are so high tec so i think so we will be seeing these new gadgets around. also im a student and my back is already hurting from carrying around all these heavy things so using something that pretty much doesnt weigh anything at all im sure students will really be begging the teachers for these around!!

    January 5, 2011 at 10:41 pm |
  440. Leah

If the technology is there we should use it. In some of my classes we barely have enough books for the students taking the class

    January 5, 2011 at 10:41 pm |
  441. Carson

I think having the electronic book would be cool! It would be better too because it would fasinete people into reading more books, and easy to carry around!

    January 5, 2011 at 10:55 pm |
  442. James

I think that students would do better in school if they had electronic books. They wouldn't have to worry about carrying heavy books. And they won't have to worry about forgetting books either, as long as take home whatever electronic device they use for books.

    January 5, 2011 at 10:55 pm |
  443. Taylor

I think that with electronic textbooks, it not only benefits that of the students load, it also benefits the environment and the money problems of the school districts in the US.

    January 5, 2011 at 11:11 pm |
  444. Trinity

Electronic textbooks are cool, new, and exciting, but even though traditional textbooks are old and heavy, they are almost always less expensive, which is a hardship for schools now.

    January 5, 2011 at 11:18 pm |
  445. Callie

I believe that students should have the privelage to use electronic textbooks because they have more updated informatioin than the textbooks used in classrooms today. Also, it would be a lot easier to carry throught the long (boring) school day! 😉

    January 5, 2011 at 11:48 pm |
  446. David

I think we should have electronic books because it would be a lot less of a load and kids would understand better and it wouldn't be as boring in classes. But some kids might get distracted with the apps, texting for plans, etc...

    January 6, 2011 at 12:09 am |
  447. persia

I think traditional books are too boring and dull, but the new electronic books will distract kids from doing their work. Although the new text books sound pretty cool.

    January 6, 2011 at 12:31 am |
  448. Ken

I think that electronic textbooks are better because students like electronics, so what would be better to them in school than electronic textbooks? these will help students concentrate.

    January 6, 2011 at 12:31 am |
  449. Chris

I think i will love studying if we study with e-books.

    January 6, 2011 at 1:31 am |
  450. Anonymous

I think whether traditional or electronic textbooks have no different significance on learning. It is solely based on the learner and how they learn best. I, personally, would rather use traditional text books since it's easier to flip through pages and is hard proven fact. Electronic books can be hacked into and changed.

    January 6, 2011 at 1:36 am |
  451. Christina

I believe that our society has a sort of reliance on technology that shouldn't be so strong. Textbooks are infalliable, but if something is wrong with your electronic reader or computer, you have some serious problems with your classes. I think that we should just buckle down and keep the old textbooks, seeing as there is less room for error with them.

    January 6, 2011 at 7:17 am |
  452. Eyre

Digital textbooks would get me lost and confused very quickly since I would have to scroll to the chapter I need where with a normal book, I can go straight to the page easyly. I have to have a normal book in my hands when I read otherwise, I can't read if its online for more than a few minutes.

    January 6, 2011 at 8:38 am |
  453. Juliana

The traditional textbooks may have slightly more info in them but they way a ton when you have too lug them everywhere. So that is why I submit that electronic textbook would be easier to carry. The normal textbooks are always so old and when the time comes to buy new ones, it costs so much money! The electronic textbook would be better for the school and many students.

    January 6, 2011 at 8:55 am |
  454. jessica

i think that we need the electronic textbooks it will fit in your bag
and so may cost less money for the schools and you can get more books on it

    January 6, 2011 at 9:02 am |
  455. Maddy

I think that we should get the technology for our textbooks, they will be more updated, and it limits us to not bring a lot of books to class. So that way it will be all in one, and not to be late to your class.

    January 6, 2011 at 9:15 am |
  456. David

    PAPER BOOK.
(it doesn`t matter to color or white&black)

In appearance, Electronic one is very portable and easy-turn-overable. According to sevral research, paper give you guys marvelous memory, however. Paper one is more than electonic one.

    January 6, 2011 at 9:46 am |
  457. Daikysha

I think that using electronic books are better because you don't have to run back and forth to your locker to get a different book for every class. When you are using the electronic book you also get updated information. Because text books give you information from about 3-7 years ago, and we need the new and updated information.

    January 6, 2011 at 9:54 am |
  458. Jessica

I rather have an electronic as a book, mostly because you would carry less things, and its digital so its new information, and not old.

    January 6, 2011 at 9:55 am |
  459. Kayla

I think we should change all books to electronic Because every kid would be more interested in a new device and it would hold there attention. People are used to textbooks. Plus, nobody wants to carry a heavy textbook around. You could have all your text books in one little device.

    January 6, 2011 at 9:55 am |
  460. Alexis

I think that we should use the online textbooks. I think this because it would be a good idea.If some people can't bring real textbooks home. Since they can't bring them home how will they study, how will they read the chapter, and how can they learn ???? I mean you can study with a friend but not all the time...... So I think online textbooks would be better.

    January 6, 2011 at 9:56 am |
  461. Eric

i think it will help us learn. But i don't think they should add internet or games on to the E-books because then teens would only play games and never read.

    January 6, 2011 at 9:56 am |

I think we should use the Electronic books because we wouldn't have to carry around those heavy books. Also I think students would learn better with then other then the text books.

I think the electronic books are better because traditional books their information might not be updated, where as an electronic book's information gets updated everyday. I almost think teenagers would use it more because technology is awesome!

I think that we should go with E-books because it would be less work carrying them around. With E-books we could get to our classes faster because we wouldn't have to stop at our lockers after every class.

You will learn better with a electronic book because the book will be up to date. Also instead of carrying 10 books at a time you would need to hold the electronic devise. A lot of kids love electronics so the electronic book will make them want to read more. It wont bore them like the traditional text books do.

I think a digital textbook would better. It would more up to date than our regular today textbook. Why keep the textbook when everyday something changes in history. Also the staff would not have to keep buying books all the time.

We all know how to turn the page of a book. When you use a book, there is a good chance that your not getting up-to-date information. If we use an online book we are one learning how to use a little bit more of modern technology. Plus when you are using an online text book, your getting more resent and up-to-date information.

I think that the traditional text book is better because if that thing who do think is going to pay for all this for that broken electronic text book. It is way better to have a traditional text book because also you can take notes while you are learning instead of typing them on a electronic text book.

I don't care if I use a text book or any electronic device. If I use either of them I will still learn the same thing.

i think it would be a lot better to carry a ipad because some of my classes make us stand in the hall until they are done when we have a lot of books and if we had the ipad it would not be that hard to carry. 🙂

I think an electronic textbook will be better because you would not have to carry lots of books you can just carry that one device and it have all the books you need

I think that if you use electronic book's you wouldn't have to carry a lot only that one device. I think if you use electronic book's you will get the more updated information because they keep it updated.

I think the electronic books would be better because who wants to carry around big heavy books? And they are lighter and more fun to use. And you could update them better.

I think an online textbook will be easier to carry but a textbook would be easier for some people to read it is hard to keep track were you are on a online text book.

I personaly think the text book is better because something cold go wrong but with a book you would only have some minor difficaulty like a page gets ripped or something. Something else is that if you loose a book it could cost from 5 to like 50 dallors as if you were to loose the eletronic book it may cause up to hundreds dollars.

I think that electronic readers are a great idea for all schools. It makes getting to and from classes easy and students won't have to worry about going to their locker as much because they'll have all their books with them at all times. They are light and easy to use as well. Plus, you wont have to constantly buy new books because e-readers can update books and information quickly, keeping our education up to date.

Electronic text books fr the win.
Kids are already SO attached to their electronics, why not make school/ homework/ worksheets just one more thing kids want to do. Plus- it helps the enviornment, it saves trees. Because you don't have to print then copy a million times.

    January 6, 2011 at 10:37 am |
  482. Abby

I think that most books should be electronically used because this is what is saving our earth not using a lot of paper but also no because the light from the computer or the thing that will be reading on can strain your eyes and make people more sick and have headaches!!!

    January 6, 2011 at 10:44 am |
  483. Tabrina

I don't think it will help because the teenagers will get distracted by the technology and not pay attention to the stuff there supposed to be studying. The will get distracted. With the original textbook its hard to get distracted like that.
But it would also be good because the students can study everywhere they go and not lug a big textbook around. And maybe some students will actually still pay attention to there work.
So with these ups and downs that could happen I honestly don't know wether it would be a good thing or a bad thing to have electronic textbooks.Maybe they should try it and depending on the students grades they could keep them or take them away. It really could go either way.

I think that electronic textbooks do enhance learning because 1) kids are used to using technology, 2) it provides additional methods to learn about the subject and 3) its easier to maintain and the content can constantly be updated.

I think schools should not buy online textbooks, because students could easily abuse the new devices by downloading applications and going on the Internet. Clumsy hands can break the system and waste money. Buying more electronic books cost lots of money and can drive schools out of business. In addition, you could get smudges on the device and it would be difficult to read the screen. I came to a conclusion that online textbooks should be voted down by schools for several reasons.

  487. Miss G's Class

We believe that the electronic textbooks would help students first by alleviate having to carry them around. Also, the cost in replacing textbooks when damaged. Third, killing trees to make textbooks. It is more convenient to access from anywhere to do work, homework, etc.

I think althought they can save money and could be benifical that old fashion text books are still more useful. Looking at a screen for hours on end starts to give me head aches and I can't imagine studying for hours from a small screen. I also like having the book in my hands and being able flip the pages. I think physically interacting with the texts helps.

    January 6, 2011 at 11:59 am |
  490. Charmaze

I think that online text books has both positives and negatives. some of the positives are that it would save students the stress of carrying numerous textbooks and it could save the school district a lot of money. some of the negatives would be that it could be distracting to the students escpecially if they have game apps and IMing. But other then that I think they would be good.

    January 6, 2011 at 12:01 pm |
  491. makeba

I can understand the obvious benefit of not having to carry heavy books around, but I feel like consolidating text books onto kindles would make the information seem more trivial. I think that having to interact with a physical book and its pages creates a more memorable learning experience.

  492. Selenia

Carrying around an electronic device with all of your textbooks on it may even make you want to do your homework. It's so much easier and you can carry it with you anywhere making studying, or reading much easier, and maybe even enjoyable. You will be reading the same thing as in a textbook and will be gettin more recent information since textbooks may be outdated. Although there may be some inconveniences, I think there are more pluses to the electronic textbook.

    January 6, 2011 at 12:06 pm |
  493. june

I think the tech-textbooks are better, because they'll save money in the long run, and they help save paper. Which is better for our school system and environment. Also the technology makes the books easier to update.

    January 6, 2011 at 12:07 pm |
  494. Bianca

I do think that it would be convenient to not have to carry a whole bunch of textbook, but I never liked the idea of staring at a computer for a long period of time. So I would personally take the textbook over the electronic device but I don't think it would be a bad idea.

    January 6, 2011 at 12:09 pm |
  495. Shawn

As a student and as a senior, I understand how much books cost and the hassle of taking them everywhere. But I also understand that books require less maintenance than what technology does. Plus, there is no other feeling as great as holding a book in your hands. With technology, you have to worry about battery life and technology is very expensive. Therefore, that is why I think books are the better choice for schoolwork and reading. I also like going to the index if I am stuck or I need a reference, just with a flick of my hand! And the last benefit is, if there is ever a blowout blizzard, you can burn the books to keep somewhat warm…something you can’t do with technology!

    January 6, 2011 at 12:10 pm |
  496. La'Shay

I think that electronic books and regular text books are basically the same its just your prefrence. I completely agree that having old text books sucks when you can barely make out what the book is really saying, there is where the electronic books will come in handy. They are easier for carrying them around as well as easy access, and a huge decrease in cost in the long run. so it's up to you and it's all about your own personal prefrence.

    E. Books are much better to use. Kids like to draw and write in traditional books and they don't even pay attention. If we give them E books then they will pay attention and be more interested in what they are reading.

There are a quite a few pros and cons concerning whether digital textbooks would be more beenficial than the traditional back-breakers.

From personal experience, carrying a lot of heavy textbooks is a chore. At my school we're not allowed to have bookbags while the school day is in session, I have to carry all of my textbooks to my classes without the help of bag. Needless to say, adding 2-3 pounds would be better than lugging around 15 extra pounds in books and save my arms from the pain and work. Another advanage to ths digital textbooks is that they will probably be up to date. Currently my school is lacking updated textbooks simply because we cannot afford it.

Books are expensive; if I misplace or ruin my book accidently I owe the high school about $80. Would the digital books be beneficial in the money department? I don't know. These devices are are bound to cost a lot at first, and it may be considered a good investment. But that brings up the consideration of advances, updates, that the device might require. Would you have to pay extra for them? How about the amount of storage? Would that be another factor in the cost? Though the cost is debatable, there are still some things that are just not the same.

This may be due to the fact that "we're used to it", but there's a certain benefit to having a traditional textbook and how we have to handle it physically. We learned how to affectively deduct the information we needed to find in the help of indexes and glossaries. We didn't define those skills by selecting the search option. Being able to have the physical book in front of you ensures it'll be there and the information won't change. What if your battery died in one of these digital devices? Which one's more likely to survive the spill from your coffee while studying? The text might be a bit stained, but your digital textbook might even have to be discarded and you'll have to buy a new one. A lot of the modern age teenagers are used to looking at computer screens, yet few of us will still get headaches. There's also a debate on whether computer screens might be hazardous to our eyesight. When scrolling down the passages in the textbook on the digital pad, are there page numbers? How do you know where to look exactly for what you read a moment before? That's why we keep our places with bookmarks and sticky notes. The new textbooks might have a similar feature.

There are several advantages and disadvantages to whether these new developments on textbooks would be beneficial to us or not. In some situations, one or the other might be better depending on certain circumstances.

We think using electronic textbooks would be bad for many reasons. Here is a list of some...
    1.bad for the enviroment
2.kids have to much screen time already as it is
    3. eventuallly the battery will run out
    4. it would cost a lot of money
    5. people will want to steal it
    6.easily breakable
    7. students can get off topic really easily
Thoses are some reasons electronic textbooks would be bad.

  508. Elizabeth

I think that having electronic textbooks would be beneficial because it's overall better for the environment and for our backs. I also think that, seeing as how kids and teens love technology so much, having electronic textbooks would somehow make us do our work more.

    January 6, 2011 at 12:50 pm |
  509. Lexi

I love the idea of an electronic textbook. It makes me want to use one! Something like this would make students want to learn. Having an electronic book would also improve back problems. I personally know many people who are suffering back pains because there load is so heavy.

    January 6, 2011 at 1:12 pm |
  510. Sandra

Actually, I think electronic books are way better than normal textbooks for school, because they are more comfortable in every way.
That’s why they are lighter than textbooks. I have to carry up to 10 books a day and they are really heavy! They also look really used after a while no matter how much you try to care about them.
However, textbooks have to replaced and updated regularly, which costs a lot of extra money and exceeds the costs of an e-book.

I think that traditional textbooks help the students learn better because they get to interact with it and make it their own rather than reading from a screen. Anyways, after you read a screen for a while your eyes start to hurt!

  515. Danielle

I believe that traditional textbooks are easier to use when you are trying to flip pages easier in the book. In electronic books, you might have a hard time reading for a long period of time because your eyes get tired. I believe we should just stick to the traditional textbooks that we started with.

I believe that an electronic textbook would be more beneficial once the technology progresses since there are some upsides and down sides to them.

    January 6, 2011 at 1:21 pm |
  517. Danielle

I think that traditional books are better because you can see your progress in the book, for me, it is easier to learn from them because its easier to read. You also have those books to keep and you remember you read them. The only thing that i do believe is good about books on line is that it saves paper.

    January 6, 2011 at 1:22 pm |
  518. Matt

Although electronic books are much lighter and easier to carry, the traditional textbook is easier to learn from. I have trouble concentrating and understanding while reading from an electronic book.

    January 6, 2011 at 1:22 pm |
  519. Grant

I think regular textbooks are better for learning because when you turn the page of a book you feel like you are making progress, but pressing a button on something like an Amazon Kindle™ makes you feel like nothing has been done.

    January 6, 2011 at 1:22 pm |
  520. Daniel

It is easier to remember notes you wrote than notes you type. It is also more challenging to find pages on an electronic book then it is using a regular book. I think that electronic books are good back ups in case you forget a regular book at school.

    January 6, 2011 at 1:22 pm |
  521. Betsy

Although electronic books are smaller and easy to carry around, they are quite easy to break. If I were to drop my ipad, it would break, and there goes $500 dollars wasted. I think textbooks are much more interactive and kid friendly.

    January 6, 2011 at 1:24 pm |
  522. Mitchell

i think we should use electronic books because you can listen to it, so its easier to focus and when your reading a regular book you can doz off.

I think that having the actual full book in front of you helps you understand what you are supposed to be understanding more. Sometimes with all your school textbooks make your backpack heavy, i feel like you can flip through that pages knowing what you have read. I prefer using textbooks instead of digital textbooks. Also, by using the actual book, you can save energy and you wouldn't have to charge something like a Kindle everyday.

    January 6, 2011 at 1:24 pm |
  525. Barbara

Although carrying textbooks can be very irritating, I believe it's better than having them all be on a computer or another electronic device. Books can take more wear & tear than electronics so they last longer. Also, you can't check how much of the book is left when it is virtual. Technology seems to be taking over our traditional ways of learning.

    January 6, 2011 at 1:25 pm |
  526. Megan

I think that we should have traditional textbooks because just the feeling of a textbook helps you learn and be able to write in them and put sticky-notes in them helps you a lot!

    January 6, 2011 at 1:25 pm |
  527. Molly

I see both sides. On one hand students are saving paper and not hulling around such heavy books if schools turn to the electrical books. On the other hand, traditional books at times are easier to use when taking notes. Electrical books are also very expensive, have to be charged, and have technical difficulties often. Traditional books, are heavier, bigger, and have to be republished if they need to but updated. Either side has its pros and con.

    January 6, 2011 at 1:26 pm |
  528. Matthew

I think the traditional text books are more sufficient because we can leave a sticky of what we have read and I think this is more productive. Also I think using the book is better because a book gets wear like anything we use and it only costs a little bit to repair it compare to a laptop or kindle where those cost much more to be replaced. When I read in a traditional book overall it's better and it's good sometimes to not look at a screen for several hours at a time.

    January 6, 2011 at 1:27 pm |
  529. Morgan

I think the new E-Books will cause destraction. People just need to use books, and be ready to carry around five or six books. Also, like someone said earlier, it will take alot of money to fix.

I prefer traditional textbooks rather than an electronic book online because the feeling of a book is comforting. It is difficult to insert sticki-notes or bookmarks online. While I read I look forward to turning the page because I feel like I have accomplished something, but when I read online I cannot turn the page. I believe schools should keep traditional books along with online books because despise the setbacks of electronic books, they do have their advantages. If you forget your book in the classroom, you are saved with the online textbook when at home. Overall, I believe that online textbooks are a good back up, but not a first choice.

Electronic textbooks are better because so many teenagers use technology and those are updated very often, when text books can't be updated uless they are bought , which costs a lot of money, and the text books are heavy and hard to carry on your back while the digital one is light and portable. 🙂

I think that electronic books would be good for schools! We have netbooks at are school and it makes learning way more fun. I think that working with are netbooks are alot of fun because I like being on a computer. I think that the electonic books would be way better because the textbooks we use are humongous! Very heavy and uncomfortable. I had to carry textbooks for all my classes in 5th grade, it made my backpack so heavy. Sometimes you can't get a book from the library because you can't check those books out or because you already have a book checked out. When you have a electonic book then you have internet access.

I think that digital textbooks would be better than walking around with a bunch of bulky textbooks, and it would save over $1,000. I think that we should start trying at least to get maybe some for the higher grades, thinking like 6th, 7th, 8th grade. I think that it would be a great change. For the school and the students.

I think that electronics would be best. Ok here's an example: Your teacher tells you to take out your textbook, but the page you need has been ripped out. You can't rip pages out of an E-reader!

    January 6, 2011 at 2:33 pm |
  538. Woody

I am a teacher and I use online textbooks. Pros: They give students access to the textbook anywhere they have internet access, they have many great interactive features such as video, audio, interactive lessons and the book will even read to you. Cons: not all students have equal access to computers or internet. Technology glitches can be a nuisance, and it’s difficult to break the mold of using actual books. Some students love it, others hate it.

i think people our age will enjoy using technology. kids should be able to hav fun and not sit and be bored all the time with the old books. most of the pages in the books at either written or drawn on and with the new technology thing, i think it will be actually worth it. (:

I do not think you can learn differently. I think it just makes the books easier to access. We should not get rid of books though, no matter what because we wouldn't want anything like F451 to start.

I think it takes the fun out of reading and causes a bigger distraction to the students. my Mom says that you can hold a book and feel a book and the pages don't have to load.

I think that we should have electronic e-readers instead of text books. For one the lights would wake the kids up while as the text book put you to sleep. Also you have a e-reader fee to pay for the e-readers not just from the school. I know I have slept through a couple of classes before but the light would tell you mind "WAKE UP" instead of the boring text book.

i say u should use electronic books its always time for something new the world is revolving

I Really like The feel of the traditional feel of textbooks and I also think that electronic textbooks are inefficient compared traditional textbooks and also traditional books are heavier so students gain strength when carrying the books along with binders.

electronic are the best because they are more up to date and people like technology

Using online textbooks on an actual computer (which is what my government class is going through, we don't have Kindles or iPads) is extremely distracting. I go online to read a chapter, and before you know it, I end up on Facebook or YouTube. The Internet as a whole is just way too distracting.

    January 6, 2011 at 5:24 pm |
  549. Mandy

I think if we go digital it will help students concentrate since everything is digital, they will be able to use it as if it was a cell phone or a eletronic device that will be quicker and easier to use. Plus text books can hurt peoples backs if it is heavy enough. Why do you think people slunch?

    January 6, 2011 at 5:27 pm |

i think that if a schools need to be open with al new eltronics in the class rooms so i think students should use e-books

I THINK THE eBook is a great idea cause the ones we u now is old history and over the years stuff has change (and its go be cheaper than buying a book every 2,3 years)

    January 6, 2011 at 5:33 pm |
  552. Mariela

As a student I prefer the original textbooks because I find it hard to focus while using the electronic one, but I don't think it really makes a big difference on which type of textbook you use. People are all different; as long as we're using what is more useful for our understanding I think there shouldn't be much of a problem.

    January 6, 2011 at 5:43 pm |
  553. dwayne

the text books wouldn't be very useful because they can tear up easily and the books would be able to write on and rip the books

    January 6, 2011 at 6:07 pm |
  554. Zania

This is great chance for us to have less of a load and get more excited about flipping through a textbook

    January 6, 2011 at 6:52 pm |
  555. Blayne

I think that the digital text books cost more but will so them money over time. The 50 million that they spend on books is pathetic. They can buy one and if that student brakes it or losses it then they will have to pay for it.

I feel that online text books are useful to some people but not all. As for me i dislike them it takes longer to log onto a computer open the web page and start reading then it would be if you just picked up a book and opened it. Online there are many distractions and when you have a hard copy you have no excuse not to do the work. Online people have problems accessing the book and learning how to use the technology, some people dont even have a computer so by putting a book online they are unable to use it any way.. Its so much easier to just open a book and read it that way. My teachers have put their books online but i couldnt access them a lot of the time when trying to use them so i have had to check a hard copy of the text book out anyways, so even if you put a book online the only thing that matters is if you can access it.

    January 6, 2011 at 7:11 pm |
  557. Alex

I think a Kindle will be really distracting for most students. It's another electronic, it's like having a cell phone in class. It will be out during class every day. A textbook can take more "abuse" then a Kindle. If you drop a Kindle, just like a phone or an ipod, it might break. A Kindle, plus downloading the Kindle version on the book, is $150+. Dropping a textbook might damage the book a little bit, but it will not need to be replaced. I can see why a Kindle would be very useful for older students. It is light and easier to carry than a textbook.

    January 6, 2011 at 7:20 pm |
  558. Lena

I do not think, that there is a big change in the behavior from the student to learn with the new textbooks.
I think it is very sad, that we are still looking for stuff, which support our laziness.

    January 6, 2011 at 7:27 pm |
  559. Emilee

I think that the U.S. should give kids Digital Textbooks. Not only would it lighten the weight, but it would help kids find the right pages in the text-book, too. I think that it would also replace all the stress about library money. Each kid could have their own library in their pocket.

    January 6, 2011 at 7:39 pm |
  560. Claire

I think that traditional textbooks are better because then kids won't be tempted to surf the internet when they should be studying, but it would be nice having less books to carry!

    January 6, 2011 at 7:45 pm |
  561. Jose

i think you will be learning the same its just in different forms like electronic and textbooks

    January 6, 2011 at 8:03 pm |
  562. Sarah

I personally think that having a tangible item like a textbook is easier to focus on to read; the electronics just distract me from concentrating on work. But, electonic books would be lighter to carry around and less to keep up with. Electronic books could also be BAD for students who loose things easily though, because if you loose your electronic textbook, everything you need for class will be gone.

    January 6, 2011 at 8:06 pm |
  563. Emma

Textbooks weigh a lot so, it would be easier to carry around one thing instead of heavy textbooks that hurt your back and hard to carry. Teenagers love electronics, so they might be excited to go to school if they get textbooks on electronics.

    January 6, 2011 at 8:15 pm |
  564. Leah

I think that electronic book are going to be better for us. In our generation we interact with technology more and so we won't be confused when they hand us a Nook or a Kindle. We can figure it out. It will be cheaper too than buying new textbooks to get updated information. If we have electronic books, they can be update constantly rather than having old "news". If we look at better managing of our money, I think it would be better for our limited money to spend it wisely and use electronic textbooks.

    January 6, 2011 at 8:20 pm |
  565. Jake

I don't think there is any difference between reading off a screen or out of a textbook. Either way, as long as the person reading it understands it, and is able to remember it. Each have their pros and cons. Text books can be written on, while electronic textbooks can break very easily...

    January 6, 2011 at 8:49 pm |
  566. Candace

It can cause health issues, considering staring at a screen for a long time burns brain cells, just like watching television for a long time.
I know this post is outdated, but anyone who reads this should understand that braincells DO NOT come back or grow back or whatever your thinking of.

    January 6, 2011 at 8:57 pm |
  567. Abigail

I think it would help students because they wouldn't have to carry around books but, it addicts people to electronics more than people are today.

    January 6, 2011 at 8:57 pm |
  568. Matthew

I think that having electronic textbooks would be better than the ordinary. I believe that having them be installed inside the desks would be even better. At my school, we have textbooks that are at least 5 years old!!! With this installation and the right technology, it could keep our shoulders from being strained! On the other hand, if they broke, the repairs would cost a little more $$$, but I believe when you get high-quality technology like that it's just what happens. Just part of the Purchase. I feel very strongly and feel my point has gotten across

    January 6, 2011 at 9:00 pm |
  569. Kenzie

books are heavy and hard to find a correct page. electronic would be less heavy, able to carry more info and it is a way to connect to the teens these days. teens like technology.

    January 6, 2011 at 9:00 pm |
  570. Greg

I believe that online textbooks are better as long as all students have a computer and internet at home, therefore it will be easier for students to learn and bring their work home.

    January 6, 2011 at 9:11 pm |
  571. hanhu

I think that electronics for books is better because when you go to a library you have to walk around and search to find one book you want to get. Like the kindel or somthing else you just search your title for your book and bang boom you got your book, but i heard the kindel is better than a ipad because it doesnt strain your eyes. Also it is cost less than a textbook.

    January 6, 2011 at 9:15 pm |
  572. Frenchy

I think that it is both good and bad because if everyone has internet at home then it will be very handy on the other hand it is very costly. Textbooks are expensive too therefore i believe that schools should participate in raising money for kids to buy Ipads or Kindels, it will be better since we are in a more advanced era.

    January 6, 2011 at 9:17 pm |
  573. malika

i think electronic textbooks will be better for students because they don't have to carry around ,they will love a new electronic device that can be used instead for books.the schools will also save money by not buying updating books as the electronic textbook can be updated. we would not even have to worry about turning to page 345 paragraph 4 and that is what students will love.

    January 6, 2011 at 9:18 pm |
  574. Corrina

Schools should stay with traditional textbooks. If you give teens electronics, they won't focus on their work. They'll be on some social site. And lugging those text books around are a drag, but they pay off because you'll get some muscles!

    January 6, 2011 at 9:29 pm |
  575. Alston

Textbooks, me myself it helps me learn better. If you drop a textbook it is not going to break into a thousand pieces if you drop a textbook you can just pick it right back up!

    January 6, 2011 at 9:32 pm |
  576. Ben

I believe traditional textbooks are better because they are more reliable than digital ones. Plus, they have extra facts on the side and pictures that help understand better what they're trying to say. The digital textbook example I saw just had words which don't get the point across as much as pictures do.

    January 6, 2011 at 9:43 pm |
  577. richard

i think you should use a electronic books because then schools dont have to wast there money by buying new books every three years and with the electronic book you can just slide a read and download a book if you want.

    January 6, 2011 at 9:49 pm |
  578. Eneyda

Sometimes its better to have access to an online textbook to do your homework faster, because not all of us have a chance to go to the library and not all books are up to date.

    January 6, 2011 at 9:54 pm |
  579. Anonymous

Yes it would be alot better than having to carry around text books all the time, im a junior an it is a hastle. However how would we know that the students ar really doing there work? or that they wont break it or loose it

    January 6, 2011 at 10:00 pm |
  580. Robert

I think that the online textbooks would be better overall for the majority of students though i personally prefer the hard cover version. the feeling of turning the pages is something i cant be without.

    January 6, 2011 at 10:43 pm |
  581. Dixie

So some of you people want to use some cool new shiny toys to play with in class. Ok, I'm fine with that. But before you start playing with those, and before you break them, try sticking your nose in something that's worked since the dawn of civilization; books!

    January 6, 2011 at 10:43 pm |
  582. Jordan

I think the electronic text books are a lot better; smaller, lighter, and holds a lot more. And also it turns out that they would be cheaper then the hefty books that you would have to get all through high school.

    January 6, 2011 at 11:21 pm |
  583. Sarah

In most of my classes, the school has provided a class set of books and then a book for you to take home. This prevents me from having to lug my books everywhere. Although using online textbooks may be easier, staring at a computer or electronic device can tire out my eyes.

    January 7, 2011 at 12:11 am |
  584. Lilian

In my opinion, traditional text books are better for learning. I know that I would rather have the book in my hands and be able to easily flip between pages than being reliant on an electronic devise. I am aware that there are many benefits to having electronic text books, such as the cost, the weight, and less paper use. However, I know that I learn better with the real thing.

    January 7, 2011 at 1:46 am |
  585. talya

i think that the textbooks are better it keeps them more focused and if they have electronics kids always find a way to distract themselves. textbooks are a more straight forward way of learning.

my mom had to carry 7 books allday and i dont want to do that

    January 7, 2011 at 8:44 am |
  587. Austin

I think that traditional text books are better that electronic text books, because the information is already there. Also with electronic text books you have to worry about your batteries staying charged and students could be distracted by playing games.

    January 7, 2011 at 9:39 am |
  588. Morgan

I think books now are perfectly useful for everyone, they may become heavy, but that is a part of school. The E books I think will cause distraction.

  589. Cain

Being one of the many (admitting) "lazy" people that disagree with hauling 6 massive textbooks around to and from school and between classes, I totally support this. Most of the time i don't even bother with my homework and rely on tests because I'm not willing to take the books on a 2 mil trek right after hours of hard workouts after school. Not saying I'm good for what i do but ya, electronic books please!

    January 7, 2011 at 9:59 am |
  590. john

I think that we should go with the electronic books beacuse it would be a lot easier to carry then regular textbooks. it will not make you be trady for class. you will not have a lot of books to take home. if your like me slow at work. then it would be easier for me to carry it then all of the bools i take home. the books i take home are World history, and geometry.

    January 7, 2011 at 10:04 am |
  591. heather

I have two different views of this. I think the electronic books could be successful in many ways because it would cost less money over a period of time and it seems to catch the attention of high school students more than text books do. The electronic books could also be bad in many ways to because what if one breaks? What if you take it home and leave it there..... then you don't have any of your books for that day.

    January 7, 2011 at 10:08 am |
  592. Caitlin

I am in between on having electronic textbooks and keeping the traditional textbooks. There are many advantages and disadvantages of having electronic textbooks. For example if one is lost or broken then it could be an expensive repair, but if you have lots of homework then your books are in a much smaller load.

    January 7, 2011 at 10:08 am |
  593. kelsey

I agree with changing schools to technology. People in school our age use technology all the time, we enjoy it more than books. I think that some students would actually do their work more often because they don't want to carry the books back and forth to school. People just use anything with technology over old fashion items more and more.

    January 7, 2011 at 10:09 am |
  594. Taylor

I think that electronic textbooks sounds like a fun idea. But honestly, I don't think it would make a differnce in learning.

    January 7, 2011 at 10:09 am |
  595. Dasir

I Think The Electronic Text Book Is A Great Idea. In All My Text Books I Have Some Can Of Writing. Either Someone Wrote Something Bad Or The Answers To The Questions. And My Locker Is Nowhere Near Any Of My Classes And I Don't want to have to keep going back and forth to get my books.

    January 7, 2011 at 10:12 am |
  596. Maria

I believe that using technology would encourage students to work due to the fact that that is what they use more now a days.

    January 7, 2011 at 10:27 am |
  597. Guffey

I, too, remember the days of hauling around fifty pounds of textbooks like a coolie, but to be honest, I miss those days. I say this like it's the past because although I am still in school, I no longer have to carry around so many books, but I digress. I hardly even use books anymore, so I may as well have made the switch to electronic reading. I strongly dislike that sort of education though. It loses that feel of authenticity, the quality of a real mentor.

    January 7, 2011 at 10:54 am |
  598. Jazmin

I personally think that using electronic readers would be a better idea and benefit all schools in the long run. Embracing technology of today will help students become more interested in online textbooks and their classes. Electronic readers will provide schools with all the online books they need so in that case schools won’t have to spend more money buying several different books or worry about replacing them when they start to fall apart. Also the electronic readers provide the updated version of each book when new information is available.

    January 7, 2011 at 10:55 am |
  599. Julia

I have an iPod touch with iBooks, and say you got a book called 'Animals Of The World'. The copy at school was written in 1989, and you got it on iBooks/Kindle/Nook. It would be updated.

    January 7, 2011 at 11:00 am |
  600. Dustin

I thnk electronic readers are nice but books are better. Books might be heavier than the electronic readers but a book will not break like the electronic reader. Then you have to spend money to fix it. And not every person has $300-$400 to buy a electronic reader. So i think we should just keep the books and not spend money we dont all have.

    January 7, 2011 at 11:03 am |
  601. Tequan

I think that using an electronic textbook would be better to use because a regular textbook people would steal it and if you use an electronic textbook people wouldn't write in it or steal it.

    January 7, 2011 at 1:26 pm |
  602. Ariel

I think that the best type of textbook is an electronic textbook is the best way for us to learn because one, kids wont have to lug around a huge textbook in their backpack. Most importantly I think kids would enjoy electronic textbooks better because they are high tech and I think that it would add a little more fun to learning.

    January 7, 2011 at 1:29 pm |
  603. lania

I think that if there was electronic books it would be easier for us to learn, because some students dont like to take there books home because they are to heavy. It would encourage students to take them home and study because they wouldn't have to worry about all the extra weight.

    January 7, 2011 at 1:37 pm |
  604. Yaremi

I believe that either both ways are a good way to learn.People today are more into online social networks but it can also be a distraction for some and thats why both ways can sometimes be a good positive or negative way to learn for some people.

    January 7, 2011 at 3:17 pm |
  618. Mim

Well, their are good & bad things about the eBook replacing textbooks. If the eBook breaks, it would cost money to download textbooks AND repair the eBook. Plus, the eBook would have to be replaced every few years . Thought facts would be out-dated in textbooks, and they DO make you backpack weigh 20 pounds.

    January 7, 2011 at 3:25 pm |
  619. Michelle

I think it's a combination of both that's good. The e-readers, iPads, etc. are very nice and can do a lot in the way of reading (or more with iPads), but would you really trust a bunch of students not to break and/or steal them? Most can get games and can be a distraction in class that's not noticed by the teacher. On the other hand, textbooks become and worn and are heavy. There is definitely pros and cons to each, but I love my iPad and I think it would be a funner and easier way to learn.

    January 7, 2011 at 3:29 pm |
  620. Gwyneth

Technology always has a way to distract kids. I know that when I'm in the computer lab doing my work, there is always at least, one person not doing what they are supposed to do.

    electronic books
    A save paper
    b are lighter to carrie
c can carrie millions of books and thousands of topics in one small place

  622. jennifer

I think the best way to get even more students to learn is by using the new technology that they are used to using. Even though they might be expensive, if you give a child a chance they could be more trained and ready for when they get the e-readers.

    January 7, 2011 at 4:00 pm |
  623. nikole

it would be easier to carry just one thing then all of the things you need. Your text book at your finger tips and and be easier to keep everything nice and neat.

    January 7, 2011 at 4:02 pm |
  624. Danae

I think that electronic books are realy neat and would make a great tool for school but then i also think that you need normal books too. i don'tr want my child(in the future) to have electronic books all the time i want him tp have normal books too! i want him to grow up with some kind of sensibility that not everything is futuristic

    January 7, 2011 at 4:02 pm |

switching to and eletronic book wouldnt make a diffrance i think because right know with everything else going electronic kids wouldnt give it a second thought.

I think that electronic books would be much easier. since I am a student I know how hard carrying around a bunch of books can be and that is not what I want to waist my energy on.

    January 7, 2011 at 4:20 pm |
  628. Sunshine

I think we should switch to electronic text books. Most ppl would learn alot better. You may not always be able to stay on topic with all the distractions but you would eventually finish your home work.

    January 7, 2011 at 4:21 pm |
  629. Alannah

Using online textbooks from a Kindle or the internet would be all around better. It would be better for the earth, and easier on our backs. Plus, kids like to use technology a lot anyway.

    January 7, 2011 at 4:22 pm |
  630. Zuriah

I have an e-book, and if I could carry around all of my big heavy text books on that, then I would really like doing my homework. I think it would help save paper and help save the planet.

We think it would lighter to carry it around. Students destroy property so they shouldn’t be trusted. I think it would be best for the teachers to use it instead of the students.

I think that changing the traditional textbooks to electronic textbooks is bad. I know that when I get onto the computer to do my homework, I end up going on Facebook. I think about 60% or so do the same. This won't help us; it will probably make the homework rate drop.

I think electronic text books would be better, and help teenagers learn because everyone is sooo obsessed with electronics and would enjoy having a portable advice and then the text book would be really heavy and be a bother to carry around. Also the electronic textbooks would update everything and always have the right info. but textbooks are old and can't just atomatically change.

    January 7, 2011 at 4:54 pm |
  639. Rachael

Since we are entering a more technological age having an electronic textbook is more handy. Checking out a textbook can also be a hassle and carrying it around is a job in itself. The electronic is the same version just more suitable to this age.

I think we should use good old fasion textbooks, they may be hard on your back but some students eyes can be sensitive to the light on a srceen. The textbooks may be heavy and all but i would rather get 1000 papercuts from a textbook that hurt my eyes from a screen.

I think going to electronic textbooks would be very cool. I do think it would be beneficial to most students. I have only talked to one person who said they dont think it's a good idea becasuse there isn't really a point, i do understand what he is saying but dont agree.

    January 7, 2011 at 5:49 pm |
  642. kaylyn

i think that you should use electronic books because the old text books have many errors in them, and the electronic books would have no errors in them.i also think that if you use electronic books that you would have a lot less stuff to carry around. it would be like having your own personal smart board in your hand. i also think it would be fun to use electronic books in school.

    January 7, 2011 at 7:09 pm |
  643. Mercedes

I think that the electronic books should be optional. A lot of people now are used to reading on screens and it works better for them but, some people like me get a headache or get sick when they look at a screen for too long. It should be optional that way every student gets what would be best for their education.

It's a good idea. In my math class, we can go to the school's virtural campus and use a copy of the textbooks we use online, in case we forget our textbook at school. It's the same thing.

There would be a lot of benefits with putting textbooks into electronic format. For example, I'm a very visual learner. An idea I would volunteer would be incorporating videos, music, and other interactive features into the textbooks. It already takes a lot of money to repair and purchase new textbooks, so why not invest in this idea?

    January 8, 2011 at 12:05 am |
  650. Alisha

I do think that electronic textbooks would work however personally I feel that hardback textbooks are better. This is because I feel it is easier to find the information I need in a regular textbook compared to a electronic textbook and if you broke/lost/or had a malfunction on your electronic textbook it would be a lot more expensive to fix. And if you have to buy the textbook on a electronic device then you cant sell it back like you would normally with textbooks in college.

    January 8, 2011 at 12:44 am |
  651. Jake

Honestly, you can't choose Electronic or Traditional for everyone. And you could have a mixture of both. You could use traditional textbooks in class, and then use the E-Reader for homework. You could also use the E-Reader in class for assignments like taking notes, then use the E-Reader to study later on. Also, some textbooks don't have digital versions, so that's why you have to have a mixture of both. And one last thing, E-Readers are electronic, which means they can be changed so that they play games, or you can access websites, or communicate with each other. That is why you should use E-Readers for assignments in class, because then, they actually hae to be working instead of tuning out a book.

    January 8, 2011 at 9:01 am |
  652. Millie

If they did decide on changing traditional textbooks to electronic ones, think about the spark of popularity in buying them. With more schools ordering them, the companies making them might raise the prices to get a better deal. You never actually know what a kid is going to do with the electronic textbooks, I mean they could be goofing off and not actually looking up something, while with a traditional textbook, you can be assured that they're at least learning something. Then it comes to repairs, traditional books will last over the years, and electronic books could get easily damaged (which adds to more cost).

I think that our world is just becoming to dependent on technology...

    January 8, 2011 at 10:49 am |
  653. claire

i think that we should stay with the normal books, it may be easier to carry around the electronic ones but you can't get all the text books you want because some companys don't want their books to be online because if there online then people dont need to buy them from them they can just get them online!

  654. Leela

I think using electronic textbooks would lighten the load that kids have to carry around on their backs. I know I have to bring home a heavy trapper, an over sized math binder and a thick Algebra book almost every night. That much weight adds up quickly. Electronic textbooks would improve the posture abd health of both children and adults.

Personally i think that online text books is the way to go because students wouldnt have to worry about loosing the text books that they checkout and the teachers wouldnt have to worry about damages, returns or any being lost, after all online text books will always be updated.

i think we should have electronic textbook it make things easier and us students are the one having to carry home the textbooks when we have homework not the teachers and when we have electronic textbooks we can always have them with us during class and not havin to carry around heavy textbooks and we wouldn't have to rember to take or books home because i know i always forget my books

    January 9, 2011 at 1:01 am |
  662. Jasmine

While it seems technology is forever on the rise it's about the students. If a student wants to study, or do their homework, they will. If they want to get distracted they'll do that too. I do think it might get a few more students interested but I'm not so sure it's worth it yet.

    January 9, 2011 at 11:05 am |
  663. Misty

I think I would probably learn better from an electronic textbook because one they are easy to carry around and I enjoy typing more than writing and also sometimes when textbooks get old they get harder to read because the ink starts to disappear.

If you think long and hard about how fast events in our history change and new history arrives you are loosing something in your text book. Text books cost about 50 to 80 dollars a book and that is only for one class some classes you need more than one book and you have to get one for every year. Pluse books are usually only accurate the first couple years they are out. At my school we have books that are so outdated. In history we are learning about Presidents and to begin we learned about the requirements, it said that there was never an African President which is not true as we know.
If schools switched to electronic books it may not be as costly per book, and the books can probably be updated when something new happens. Similar to Ipod games; once the game creators think of something to add to the game you get notified and can upgrade it. The other Pros of having electronic books is it will not be as heavy to carry and every night you can take home all your books to study instead 5 books. Just you have to make sure you always remember to bring it back the next day! Hence, schools should switch to electronic books it will be for the better.

    January 9, 2011 at 4:58 pm |
  668. Zorainna

Both are good. With textbooks, they usually don't get lost. On the other hand, they also don't get updated often. If we had ipads, they would be easier to lose. They would get updated when it's needed but it would be pretty impossible to use one if it was almost dead because you probably couldn't charge it in class. An ipad would also be a lot more expensive to fix or replace if it got damaged, which it probably would. A compromise would be for each student to have an ipad but have a few back-up textbooks so you wouldn't have to repair them.

I believe electronic textbooks are better because the y can stay more updated and it would cost less to update the content

I have a ton of books and have not been lifting weights so it is like I am carrying 5 lbs 6 hours a day for school while I could be carrying less with the feature of books.(Also will make me look short.)

I think the Digital texbook would be better because it wouldn't hurt your back or arms if you had to walk home from school and had a lot of homework and it would reduce back pains in teens...like me 🙂

I believe that students would be more excited about learning if they had the electronic textbooks. Our culture today is more advanced and the schools systems should catch up. The students could get one and use it for the rest of their school career. It would save loads of money!!!!!!

I think that a Kindle would be better for learning because
think of all that weight taking off your back with a Kindle,
rather carrying alot of heavy textbooks.

    January 10, 2011 at 9:59 am |
  675. Isaiah

It certainly makes it more easy to access nearly any literature. It will be easy to implement into the education system as the education system becomes more high tech. Since the cost of the e-readers is comparable to a new text book, the price should stay about the same, but save money over time, let alone backpack space, and back and shoulder pain.

I think textbooks are better because when i read something i learn it better than hearing it. then electronic books are lible to brake but a electronic book would probally be easier carry around then a regular textbook.

    January 10, 2011 at 10:43 am |
  679. carroll

It would be better because its not heavy. You could also take it home and go on the computer at your house and you could just go on the book there. You could also talk to people from other places around the world and you could see how their countries are. And it wouldn't cost as much money because the books won't fall out and they wont get ripped from being in a backpack.

    January 10, 2011 at 10:44 am |
  680. tyler

I think that it is smart to have eletric txet books like a ipad so you wont have to carry so much stuff around cause it gets heavy. Even though a ipad is very exspensive but over time it would be cheaper and if every body gave some money for there ipad for insurance.

    January 10, 2011 at 10:45 am |
  681. Austin & Colton

i think digital text books would be alot better because it would be less to carry around for alot of student and probably wouldent even need to carry a bag around. it would be alot better because all my books and notes would be on one little computer like a "i-pad". and it would be alot cheaper because instead of buying all the books or renting them you only need one little computer, and if you lost any of the rented books you would have to pay for them.

    January 10, 2011 at 10:45 am |

I think everyone should have an electronic one because it saves money, its deffently more organized and it saves trees. Electronic text books could help students learn better and help teachers so they dont have to give out worksheets they could just do homework and worksheets online instead .

I think that carrying around books is just a part of your school years. It may be tough, but it is definitely not the biggest issue that we Americans face plus reading in a traditional book is easier to read.

I think that they should just keep the regular textbooks because I think they are better to read and understand and if it was on the computer you would be able to stick a sticky note on the page or you have to keep scrolling down.

    January 10, 2011 at 11:20 am |
  689. Malia

I think that the traditional way is better because many students will become so interested in the device and will want to play with it. They won't learn as much with the electronic textbook that they could've learned with the traditional textbook.

    January 10, 2011 at 11:22 am |
  690. Meep

I have to admit, it may be more convenient to have digital textbooks....however, it could also cost the school thousands of dollars to buy and replace the books that students have broken or lost. I would probably use it more because I hate having to carry around my books. And then again, I also lose things. I'm sure the school will choose the right thing.

    January 10, 2011 at 11:22 am |
  691. Julia

If schools could effort the cost, then it would be a great way to save trees, increase the knowledge of technology, and make it easier for students to get around. But then, why spent all those money for computers that we could easily live without, when people in this world are dying from hunger.

    January 10, 2011 at 11:23 am |
  692. Alex

I think that students watch enough TV and computer screens already; making looking at a screen a requirement would only nurture America's electronic addiction.

    January 10, 2011 at 11:24 am |
  693. Ashley

I think that e-books are better because its good for the environment and people these days are more involved in technology. And e-books cost less money and teachers wouldn't have to worry about the books being ripped or written on by students.

    January 10, 2011 at 11:24 am |
  694. Tess

I love a traditional cover-to-cover book but textbooks were always a hassle. They're heavy and take up a lot of space in your locker, home or classroom. If schools could afford to buy electronic textbooks, they could spark more students' interest with a more "futuristic" approach. Electronic textbooks could hold more than one textbook and maybe other books too. Why not teach while still introducing them to the new world of technology.

    January 10, 2011 at 11:27 am |
  695. Iglesias

Even if digital textbooks would be economical, I think old school textbooks would be better. Give these lazy kids some old school exercise with 5-pound textbooks, even if they whine, its how it was done before.

    January 10, 2011 at 11:32 am |
  696. colton

I think that digital textbooks are a good idea because most people can learn with the new textbooks better then the old ones.

    January 10, 2011 at 12:18 pm |

I believe that to have the nook or Sony reader would be an easier option because textbooks cost 100-200 dollars so if they buy the readers they might even save money. Also you can take it almost everywhere with you instead of 5 pound textbooks.

    January 10, 2011 at 12:26 pm |

E-books could have more information than the old text book. The books could have false information because it is 15-16 years old.

i would think that using a electric text book would be a bad idea because then what if some people dont have the nolage to us one then thill have to get a text book any ways so i think that we should us a regular text book.

i think that electronic texta book are neat and that schools should get them but school muxt take ubderconsideration that if they buy almost every student an electronic textas book, that itwill ost alot of money and then they might not be able to do some of the thigns like dances and proms or feild trip and things like that.

    January 10, 2011 at 1:39 pm |
  702. Randi

I believe that texts book we can feel are much better. Being able to interact with them and able to write near them give you a better understanding of what you are learning. Although it may not be fun carrying them and they may be heavy they give you a better understanding. But i also believe in some classes you are better off having it on a computer. Maybe if kids are lucky enough they can have textbooks for school and online ones for home.

I think that it would be a great idea for us students to have electronic books to learn.People think that it's not a great idea because they think it will be distracting. It would also be an advantage for us students because we won't have to carry so much stuff in our backpacks.LETS GO FOR IT!!!!!

    January 10, 2011 at 4:53 pm |
  704. Sarah

In my opinion, electronic books are better for our generation. Most electronic books give us the ability to get the definition of words right away and it would be so handy for all students to have this tool. Most kids today would be more interested in electronics, so they would probably use them more. Since we are so into them, we would take better care of them than textbooks, and they are also much lighter. On some days, we take home so many textbooks, and they are very hard on our backs. On electronic books, we are able to get all of our textbooks on just one device. We also have to consider all of the paper that is wasted on textbooks. With electronic textbooks, we actually help the environment. Besides, sooner or later all of the schools will be switching to electronics.

Honestly I think that they wouldnt make that large of a difference because people who dont do there work now most likely wouldnt change for a reason like that, but for people who do there work but are easily distracted they would find a way to get distracted. It would most likely not make that large of an impact.

It is not like a textbook, and an electronic book are going to be any different. An electronic book is only going to distract kids, and cost more money. Which we dont need.

I think that having electronic textbooks will benefit our learning, because students will be more organized with all of their textbooks in one. Also, our backpacks will be lighter without all of the extra books.

i think elecetronic books are better becuse they can be updated every day.

    January 11, 2011 at 1:46 pm |

Electronic books would be better because some people write in the textbooks. And what they write is not good for all schools. Then the students would get distracted and will not be able to focus on the lesson.

    January 11, 2011 at 4:12 pm |
  714. Hannah

I like the traditional textbooks because you have the information in ink, right in front of you. If the textbooks were on the computer, then this could cause problems. Many students do not have computers, and if only kids who have computers could get the internet textbook, these students may feel left out. Also, when I look at the computer for too long, my eyes begin to hurt, so this may affect some kids. And if ALL books went online, some kids may not be able to get their homework done.

    January 11, 2011 at 4:21 pm |
  715. Rachel

Personally, I would prefer electronic textbooks over the classic textbooks. I would rather have electronic textbooks because I feel that they are more convenient than classic textbooks. I feel this way because electronic textbooks would take a lot of weight off my back, it would be easier to carry around this type of textbook. Also, instead of replacing textbooks over several years you can keep the same textbook and it would save money. In my opinion I think all schools should get electronic textbooks, it is a great new way to learn.

    January 11, 2011 at 4:38 pm |
  716. Caitlin

I personally like reading electronically more. It becomes really hard to have to carry five different textbooks a day when we only really end up reading 10 pages. It will also end up costing less money than it would cost to buy textbooks. Also, a lot of the textbooks that we read today are not updated. If you are reading something that was from ten years ago you probably won’t know how it actually is today. I know that some people have a harder time reading from something electronic because they might get distracted. Over all i think that it would be better for kids to be reading from electronic textbooks.

    January 11, 2011 at 4:44 pm |
  717. Brendan

I think it would be smarter to use online books for many reasons. it is easier on the students, because they wont have to lug the books around with them. it would also save the schools a lot of money because they would not be able to lose books therefore they would never have to by new ones. I also think the students would enjoy it more (i know i would). Lastly it is a lot easier to find information in an online textbook because you can just search for it in the online textbook.

    January 11, 2011 at 5:01 pm |
  718. Alyssa

It would definitley be for the best for students to use electronic books. First of all it would be a textbook that would be easy to carry . The type that doesn't cause shoulder and back pain . Second of all you will be able to read them anywhere without making noise. Some students tend to slam the books when they close it put it on the desk etc.... So this would be a great idea.

    January 11, 2011 at 6:44 pm |
  719. Natalie

I think that electronic text books would be a very smart choice for schools. I think this because electronic text books because they can updated all the time. The information in that text books will be very current, this fact will make it easier for students to use the information in real life. I’ve heard of some students that had to re-write some of the lists in their text because of the excess of out dated information. Re-writing can take away from class and learning time also. Another reason why I think that electronic text books would be good for schools is because they way a lot less that traditional text books. Doctors say that you aren’t supposed to be carrying more than 8-10% of your body weight on your back, but students can be carrying way more than that with traditional text books. Also, students have a tendency too, in the rush of getting from one class to another, put their back packs on only one shoulder. This is very simple thing can cause massive amounts for back pain, and also is terrible for students backs, especially ones who have scoliosis. My last reason is for energy reasons, electronic text books will cut down on the amount of paper used. Schools have to order new books and text books a lot and that costs a lot of money and isn’t good for the environment. By bringing electronic textbooks into schools the amount of paper used would be cut down a lot. I think schools should definitely lean toward electronic textbooks, or a least have it as an option to those who want to try it.

i think that electronic books would be better. They might get students more into learning because kids now days are in to the technology. I also think that electronic books would be better because they would be more up to date than our texts books we have now.

I believe that having electrionic books would be more productive and useful than heavy, old textbooks. First, it would save the schools a tremendous amount of money because they wouldnt have to pay around $50 for each textbook. Online textbooks are more legibile and may be accessed from both school and home, where if you had heavy textbooks, you might not bring them home everyday because of the weight. Also, I believe that textbooks are part of an older generation and now, in this generation, most things are done electronically. Soon enough, everything is going to be done that way, so why not make the switch now rather than later. Online textbooks are a great thing because it is easier to find the information you are looking for because you can just type it in in the "search" bar.

I think that textbooks and electronic books are both helpful. But some of us learn better with text books, and some of us learn better with electronic books. The one good thing about the electronic textbooks is that they are updated information and would be easier to carry around. The one good thing about textbooks is that you don't have to worry about your eyes. For me I would learn better with textbooks.

I think that traditional textbooks are better because electronic textbooks are much more expensive so if a student breaks one then the students family might not be able to afford to pay for it.

I carry all my books with me or leave them at home. There's only one book in my locker. As long as the school paid for the electronic books, that'd be great. On the other hand, if we had to fork out the money to buy the electronic books, there'd be a bunch of kids without books due to not being able to afford it.

Online and traditional are the same learning wise. The only difference is that the online books are updated whenever needed. I know I like to read new information that's the only reason I love CNN student news everyday. Traditional books wear put and wastes thousands to millions of dollars a year.

In my opinion, online textbooks are more beneficial than old, heavy textbooks. First of all, using online textbook will save a lot of money. Usually a regualr textbook costs at least $50. An online textbook will be legible and easier to access. This is because you can use the online textbook both at school and at home, rather than dragging your textbook back in forth. An online textbook would be easier to find information because you can just type what you are looking for in the "search" bar and all the closest results would show up. In my opinion, traditional textbooks are part of an old generation, and now, in our generation, most things are done electronically. Soon enough, textbooks will be online, so why not make the switch now rather than later. Think about your locker. It is probably crammed with 5 old textbooks. Think about if we only used online textbooks. Your locker would be so much neater and you would barely ever need to go to it.
