$400 To Ride the School Bus?

How do you get to school?
That's what the price could be in one Massachusetts school district.  Like so many systems, the district is short on money, so it stopped bus service for students who live within two miles of their schools.

We don't know yet if people are going to pay the $400-$500 fee for school bus service, but we are interested in what you'd do if you were faced with this problem.  Imagine you live about two miles from school, and bus service is canceled.  Do you work to earn the money, get a ride with your parents or friends, or start walking?

This is outrageous. If I was forced to do this, I'd definitely just bike to school. but i'd definitely protest to the schoolboard, too.

If the school system starts charging for transportation, then it might hurt alot of kids educationally, and their parents finacially

oh my gosh 400-500 dollars just for a 5 min. ride to school... who would ever pay that much. why not just walk to school. with all the finantial issues how do they expect anyone to pay it.

I really do live two miles from my school. I use to walk/bike to school most mornings through grade school.

yes, i think that is very bad, because this econemy is horrible and i dont think this is helping it at all.

i dont like this , because the economy is bad enough. This isn't helping.

That is really dumb. Who wants to pay $400 just to ride the bus to school. I would rather walk 2 miles.

Perhaps this will just be more incentive for parents and students to turn to online schooling. Then they don't have to worry about whether there are enough qualified teachers remaining after lay-offs, if the academic programs they want have been cut, if their environment is safe from bullying and, oh yes, if they will have a bus to get them to the school.

Having the students pay several hundreds of dollars for daily transportation for about 180 school days shows how desperate and dysfunctional the towns budget really is. The town should find the funds through another source- either raise taxes or cut down on something less important. Student transportation is important. If a student whose only option is by bus and cant afford the heavy payment, then a substantial problem will arise. All students should receive their education regardless of their financial status, and that includes bus transportation as well.

$400? Holy Cow! Thats a lot! However, I think that it's alright I guess, because my family only has one child, Me. My family isn't the wealthiest out there, but I'm sure somehow we can work in out..but that's just my family. If you take 400 and divde it by a school year, its only about 2 dollars or so a day right? Thats not so bad...is it? Also, I bet it is awfully frustrating for those people who make the decisions, however it would be frustrating for those who can't afford it, or have a large family. Here what I think they should do: They should maybe ask a lower price, or give the price depending on the family's size, jobs, income, etc. They could also just do many fundraisers, or ask for donations.

I don't think they should start having parents pay to have their kids ride the bus because they are dealing with other things like bills, food, and things that their kids need. So I wuld not want to have my mom pay $500 just for me to ride the bus.

Definitely 2 miles is a long distance for young kids to ride home independently and if this situations happens, possibly I would choose just to ride with several my friends who live adjacently.

I would ride my bike. Two miles is a long way to walk, and $400 is a lot of money. Riding my bike would be good exercise and get me to school on time without getting too tired.

I think that people should start walking. Its good exercise for the body. I mean, if its a time issue(your schedule is to wake up at 7am and school starts at 7:15) then no, you shouldn't have to walk the two miles.

The school should make a one-way fare of 25 cents. For low income families waive away that 25 cent fee. This way the school would get some money to pay for the school buses, and pay for the rest from the school budget. However, families who can not afford the fee, wouldn't be rewu

i think its not a good idea to pay for the bus transfer , if we had to some of us students would'nt go on the bus anymore and we rather walk

If they need to gather money for schoolbus from us, let them!
But like south korea for instance, how about building schools more? Than, you don't have to ride anything-school bus or parent's car. Walk! Waik is good for your health! Isn's it?

I believe parents that have the time and whom live close enough should walk their children to school. Parents that do not should get on board with another parent and car pool. If there are 300 cars backed up in a line to drop kids off and half of those parents car pool, it would diminish the traffic greatly. I'm not a fan of the $400 dollars because some families simply can not afford it; however, I am a believer of parents taking the initiative to get rid of this problem. It could be as simple as carpooling or walking. We all know walking would not hurt anyone.

I'll rather start walking since the fee of the school buses are to expensive to pay, and probably, your parents can spend less money on gas.

I ride my bike to school while talking to my friends, and doing this allowes me to talk with my friends alot, and it could also be a good exercise for you.

First of all of love this show and my comment on one of the items that was on the student news this morning was the paying to ride the bus, I don't think that is right at all because i think that all students should get a choice of riding the school bus and shouldn't have to pay to ride it .

    September 13, 2010 at 7:58 am |

I think i will never ride a school bus that expensive. If I had the choice between walking and taking a bus that costs 500dollars, I would definitly choose walking. It's good for your health. And if I were the school, I would say you need to live at least 1 mile to ride the school bus, and it would only cost a little. Like 30 dollars a year. That way more people would ride school buses, and the school could get the same amount of money and the parents would be way happier.

  30. kelsey

i think that 2 miles is a long way to walk especial in the winter. They should make the costs lower for the bus because some people can not afford that much in a year just for a bus ride.

I think it would be crazy to make people pay for the bus service, because some people can barely make it through already.

I think that is ridiculous for us to pay the bill...even the gov can't stand the bill..I think to pay some of them should be the thing that gov do...If I can stand half of them ...then gov should pay 200 for me...isn't it?

    September 13, 2010 at 8:53 am |
  33. Annabelle

Wow! Four HUNDRED dollars to ride the bus! Now, I could see maybe one hundred or two hundred dollars, but 400 is ridiculous. Maybe parents would be more understanding if the price was lower.
If I lived in the two mile radius, I would ask if I could pay half the price, and just ride the bus on the way to school. Then I would not be late. I could handle walking home from school.

    September 13, 2010 at 8:57 am |
  34. Trina

My little sister and I ride the bus to school everyday and I know my parents couldn't afford $1,000 for us to ride. We have enough money problems as it is and I think it should be the schools responsibility to find another way to get the buses up and running.

    September 13, 2010 at 9:24 am |
  35. Hunter

I feel that if they put a price on the buses we would have a higher drop out rate, because parents might not be able to pay it so kids would have no way to school and quit. This would be an all round bad idea.

This is a lot to ask from families who have no other choice then to send their kids on the bus. Some parents have to leave for work before their children have to be at school. So they are forced to ride the bus. Having a $400 fee is obscene!!

    September 13, 2010 at 10:31 am |
  39. Lisa

I would walk. Why waste $400 to ride a school bus? I would walk, but if school's too far, I would make my parent(s) drive me about halfway and walk the rest while going to school, but after school, I would just walk. Besides, it's good for your body to exercise.

Yes I'm sure many parents can't afford to pay $ 400 a month, but I didn't here any other suggestions about how to pay bus costs! The money to pay for it needs to come from somewhere! And if a parent decides to drive their child to school they are still paying for gas to drive their car.

I think the school should provide the bus service. If I lived 2 miles from the school and I couldn't ride the bus I would walk. You could get excersise and if your friends lived near you, you could walk with them. I think that if I lived 2 miles from school and had to walk I would be furious.

i think its outragous for parents to pay $400 to pay for the school bus some families can't even afford to pay the morgage for there house an you want people to pay i would rather be driven by my mom or car pool

If it was me, i would just walk. People think walking two miles is a long way, but it is not that far. For younger people it is kind of hard buh for high school teens its not that big of a deal. And their alays complaining that the obesity rate is high. This will lower it.

if my school canceled school buses i would get a ride with friends. If schools don't have enough money for school buses then the government should pay it, being that they are the ones forcing us to go.

If my school district canceled buses i would get a ride with my parents, if the school district doesnt have enough money for buses they should do fun raiser and ask the government to chip in and even some of the parents.

If my school canceled buses I would get a ride with my parents or my friends. I think that its unfair that kids have to worry every day about how to get to school. I think that if kids stared walking to school a lot of them wouldn't show up. In the winter it would be even worse to try to walk.

If my school district canceled buses i have no idea what i would do.
My bus ride is almost an hour long and about a half hour to drive there, so theres no way my parents could take me. Both my parents wouldn't be able to to pay money for the bus, i have two younger siblings too. i would have to help pay for the bus. the buses should be free to ride.

    September 13, 2010 at 12:12 pm |
  51. James

if my school district got rid of buss transportation i would pay to ride the bus. I live about twenty-five miles away so i would have to pay. Both of my parents work and so dose my brother. So i would have to pay.

If my school banded the bussing i think , that would cause alot of problems with not only the kids but even the parents , I say this because most kids don't want to go to school now , but they have the busses to get there , But if they would take away the busses that would have alot of problems and then children would really stop attending school.

    September 13, 2010 at 12:13 pm |

If my school district cancelled school bus's, I would get my parents to drive me. Tell my parents to buy me a car. I can also carpool with my friends. I would walk but my school is too far from where I live.

This is an outrage! if i needed a ride to school i would car pool because its better for this world. Its a nice cheap way to get to point A to point B school.

    September 13, 2010 at 12:13 pm |
  55. Destiny

I would get a ride from my parents because i live more than two miles from the school. I don't think any school should have parents pay for a school Because its not your fault that you live far away from the school.

Our class thinks that is a bit out of line because some families do not have the money to pay for transportation due to today's economy. Also, some areas are not safe to walk in. If you have a parent that works how can an adult walk you?

    September 13, 2010 at 12:54 pm |

i would get a ride but i feel it is unacceptable for the school district. They aren't thinking about children who have parents that work and kids will not be able to make it to school.

I would get a ride to school from my friends and family. I would still have to earn the money to pay for the gas to give them. I would rather do cyber school so that you don't have to worry about the gas money.

I would just ride to school with my friends. I dislike taking the bus. The school district cant afford it anyways , so why not help them out. Its better to just carpool with people.

    September 13, 2010 at 12:56 pm |
  61. Brian

I would do the same thing i do now. I ride with my friend James to school and it is no problem. I don't see how it would be a problem for me if they would do that. If my ride doesn't come to school my mom or dad will take me instead.

    September 13, 2010 at 12:56 pm |
  62. Kaela

I think it would be really stupid if we didn't have buses anymore, but i would probably get a ride with friends. Or i might just get a whole group of me and my friends to all walk together so we're safe while walking and so that its not so boring.

    September 13, 2010 at 12:57 pm |
  63. Emily

I think that school's need to supply busses. I usually get a ride to school and when I go home after school I take the bus. Without the bus I would usually have no way of getting home since both my parent's work. I think since the law makes us go to school they have to give us a way to get there.

    September 13, 2010 at 12:57 pm |
  64. Eric

i think paying $400 dollars for simply riding a bus to school is completely ridiculous. Those kids should not walk 2 miles either something should be done right away because that is not fair. the kids should be worrying about their education not how to get to school.

    September 13, 2010 at 12:57 pm |
  65. Nicole

I would get a ride with a friend or my parents would drive me. It is ridiculous with all the cuts they are making for schools just to save money. If this is such a problem they should just do a fundraiser that befits everyone.

    September 13, 2010 at 12:57 pm |
  66. Sierra

If this would happen to my school i would drive with a friend. Right now there is no bus for kids that live in my town. So i dont have a bus as it is. Although we dont have to pay for buses my school has taken away the buses for extra activities after school which i think is wrong.

    September 13, 2010 at 12:57 pm |
  67. Olivia

I think its not right for the schools to take away the busing. Most families can not afford the busing, especially with several children. Maybe schools could do fundraising or hold different events/activities and use the money earned towards busing.

If my school canceled the bus rides to school and back to home, and I lived about two miles away from school, than I would most likely get a ride from a friend, parent, or just walk to and from school.

  69. Ashley

If this would happen to me I would get a ride with my friends. It would be better on gas and easier to get to school. There's also less traffic and you would have more time to get to school.

  70. Ryan

If this happened to me I would get a ride with my parents or friends. I would do this because I live 30 min, away from my school.
I don think this is right because many families dont have the money to pay for this, thats why they pay taxes.

if this would happen to me i would just pay the 400-500 dollars to ride the bus and come to school.

  72. Delaney

If my school took our buses away i think i would have to get a ride from a friend or family member. Even though my house isn't that far from my school i would have to get a ride because in order form me to make it to school on time by waling i would have to leave while it was still dark. It would be very dangerous and take a long time.

    September 13, 2010 at 12:58 pm |
  73. Chelsea

If they would start making our parents to pay to get on the bus to go to school personally i would go to school at all. I would go to cyber school and i wouldn't have to worry about paying to go to school.

    September 13, 2010 at 12:58 pm |
  74. Rebecca

If this were to happen at my school, I would have to carpool with some one or I would not be able to go to school. I live over fifteen miles from my school. That is way too far to walk. I could not get a ride from my parents because they both work and would not have the time to drive me to school.

    September 13, 2010 at 12:59 pm |
  75. Danny

if this happened to me i would either try to get a job to earn the money or get a ride from a friend. $400-$500 is a bit on the pricy side for bus transportation. The government should give all the schools in america a grant just for transportation. Nowadays some parents cant afford to pay that much because some do not have jobs.

    September 13, 2010 at 12:59 pm |
  76. Bobby

If this happened, I would get a ride from my brother, since he goes to the same school and has a vehicle. Walking 2 miles is too far to walk for school, and riding with your parents is embarrassing.

    September 13, 2010 at 12:59 pm |

I would probly ride my bike because I always ride my bike 2 miles

If ur school did this and made students pay $400-$500 to ride the bus i would, get a ride with my mom to school. The reason why i would do this because it's on the way to my mom's job and is easier for her to drop me off than drive me down to the bus stop and her having to back home to help my little brother get ready for school.

I think it is not right for that school district to charge the parents $400-$500 to ride a school bus!!! What if they have 5 kids at that school??? That's about $2000-$2500 of money that could have been spent on food, gas, clothes, and bills! Sure I live right by my school and get a ride... but if you think about families that live miles away with a lot of kids, that's unfair!

    September 13, 2010 at 1:05 pm |

i think that the bus rides should be free because what if the parents cant afford to pay that much or dont have transportation to get them to school i think if the state really wants these kids to go to school like they say they want them to they will supply transportation

    September 13, 2010 at 1:05 pm |
  81. Ashlynn

I think the $400 fee for bus riding isn't right. That's really expensive and some families can't afford that, but need their kids to have a ride to school. Also 2 miles is a long walk to school for some kids. The school is completly wrong.

    September 13, 2010 at 1:06 pm |
  82. michael

No because why would you want to waist $400 for a bus ride for the whole year. I i would ride my bike two miles instead of riding the bus for $400.

    September 13, 2010 at 1:07 pm |
  83. Austin

I think that the kids should walk to school because i have to walk that two miles every day and it has been great because it prepares me for P.E and waking up earlier is a great way to prepare for a job ( if your job requires to wake up early)

if i had to ride to school and pay i would bike to school or walk. Even though i was like 11 i still would walk to save money.

i dont think our parents should have to pay $400 for us to ride the bus, but they could pay a smaller amount to help out the schools. But i also think it would help if at the schools they involved the kids in helping raise money for their school to pay for things we use such as buses. like the kids can do a car wash or a bake sell or something like that.

    September 13, 2010 at 1:09 pm |
  86. Anonymous

No, I think that parents should not have to pay to ride the bus. They could make more money just having them walk or even giving the ride. But that might be a safety issue, because if all the people who ride the bus dont want to pay the fee then they is going to be more people who walk and get rides from their parents. So if some people are walking and theres alot of traffic there might be an accident.

IF i had to ride to school and pay i would probably sue the school and say that it should be a right that every student has the right to an education and by making students and families pay some do not get to learn. THUS we do not get to learn.

If the kids live at least 20 mins away from schhol i think they should walk. You dont want kids far away from the school having to walk.I
think they should ride the bus. If mothers dont want the kids to walk to school drop them off at the street of were the school is so they dont get cought in the long line of other cars. beacause if i was a mom and i had to get to work i would have a nabior take my kids.

  89. Dallin

    September 13, 2010 at 1:10 pm |
  90. Quinn

I think that paying $400 just to ride a school bus is ridiculous and they should not charge kids anything for riding. They could charge less to get parents more interested and would maybe get as much money as if they charged $400. All together i think it is exaggerated

    September 13, 2010 at 1:10 pm |
  91. Blake

No, i do not think small children should be walking two miles to school. Parents should not have to pay four hundred dollars for their child to ride a bus. The school district should just let them ride the bus because its the right thing to do, not because you need the extra money.

    September 13, 2010 at 1:11 pm |
  92. Mrs. Reinstatler's Class

    Our homeroom class says:
"I'd sue the school district because it's a safety hazard"
"The school district needs to rethink the bus system"
"I would carpool because my instruments are too heavy."
"I think the school district is crazy"
    "I would just walk"
"I would just have mom take me"
"I would ride with my mom to another school and walk from there"

    September 13, 2010 at 1:11 pm |
  93. Madi

I think that they should ride with friends because some kids live farther then others do and walking that far alone could be dangerous.

    September 13, 2010 at 1:11 pm |
  94. Taylor

No,it wouldn't be a good idea because for most kids thats the only way they can get to and from school.

    September 13, 2010 at 1:11 pm |
  95. michael

No, because it would be to much for one year and knowing that your parents would have to get to work early in the morning. So i would rather ride my bike.

    September 13, 2010 at 1:11 pm |
  96. Aaron

i would either get a ride from my brother shawn or my parents or walk it isnt to bad of a walk or ride a bike. Then i think raising bus prices is to much we already have to pay for school stuff it should be a giving for buses cuz what if parents cant get rides and what if the house is to far away.

    September 13, 2010 at 1:11 pm |
  97. Dustin

this isnt a problem with my school beings how our town isnt even 2 miles wide. everyone is within walking distnace who lives in town, and the people that live out of town mainly drive cars also.

    September 13, 2010 at 1:11 pm |
  98. Shayla

I do not think think that it is okay to have to pay 400 dollars per child to ride the bus to school. This is a bad idea because because some people do not make enough money especially if you have nore than one child that needs to ride the bus to schoool.

    September 13, 2010 at 1:12 pm |
  99. Ashley

It is not ok for parents to have to pay $400 just to ride the bus! The schools have made it this far paying for the busses themselves. Common people just dont have that kind of money! Very few people would be able to ride the bus. Pretty soon, no one will be riding them, and it will be a waste to have gone through all of this just so schools can save some money. Some kids that live away, with a bus being there only transportation, just dont have that kind of money. How do people expect THEM to get to school?

    September 13, 2010 at 1:12 pm |
  100. Anelle

No. I think that having to pay such a big amout to ride the school bus is crazy. Yes, some how they need to come up with the money to keep the buses and make them available, but the price to do so is to big. If they need kids and parents to help out with the school bus price then they should ask for a smaller price, because i do think that the people need to help pay for what they ride.

    September 13, 2010 at 1:12 pm |
  101. Nick

I don't think people should pay to ride the bus to school.

    September 13, 2010 at 1:12 pm |
  102. Romer

Why did the principal cut funding for the buses in the first place? Now he's asking the parents, who already pay for their children to go to school, for another $500 to get the buses back. If I was a parent, I would just say no, too bad, pay for the buses, and figure out a way to get more money.

    September 13, 2010 at 1:12 pm |
  103. jon

the school bus is way to much money to get home and to school.they need to not put the payment on the parents.

    September 13, 2010 at 1:12 pm |
  104. Tristan

I think it is ubsurd to charge someone $400 to ride the bus. It was the schools decision to cut the amount of busses they were going to use and now they are punishing the parents for their mistakes.

    September 13, 2010 at 1:12 pm |
  105. Sammi

I think if you live a mile away from school that you should walk or ride your bike to school. It saves money on gas for the busses and for our parents that drive us to school.

    September 13, 2010 at 1:13 pm |
  106. Trevor

I don't think that parents should have to pay for busing, because it is a school service. The school can get money by cancelling field trips or raising lunch prices.

    September 13, 2010 at 1:13 pm |
  107. Stephanie

I don't think that we should have to pay for the bus because parents might send their kids on the bus for many reasons. For example they aren't able to drive them in the morning. If they aren't able to, it's not their fault. What happens if people don't have money to pay for the bus? It is not fair to have to pay.

    September 13, 2010 at 1:13 pm |
  108. vidalia

I think it is not fair because a lot of people don't have money right now and since its a public school bus, and it belongs top the school then we shouldn't have to pay, if people wanted to pay for gas to take their kids to school then the parents would just probably take their kids to school there selfs.

    September 13, 2010 at 1:13 pm |

    September 13, 2010 at 1:14 pm |

I think that we already pay taxes to pay for school and the school system should learn to use it's money better before it asks people for more money.

parents shouldn't pay 400$ because mos t people don't have that money to spare

I think that they should go on strike and ask everyone to not ride the bus temporially.

    September 13, 2010 at 1:18 pm |

I think that 400$ to ride the bus is outrageous because nobody has that much money to spare with the current economic state of our country.

    September 13, 2010 at 1:20 pm |
  115. Emily

I think that it is something that a public school should provide. But car pool is another easy thing to do and that is what i do and it still saves gas and it might be only one day you drive to having to drive all five days of the week. 400 is way to high and it should be something less so that kids can find a safe and simple way to school with out having to walk.

    September 13, 2010 at 1:20 pm |
  116. Cassie

I would talk to my principal and see if I could start a school wide car wash with a couple of my friends and then have others join with. Because some people like me live in the middle of nowhere and can"t do car-pool and their parents leave before they can drive their kids or kid to school!

    September 13, 2010 at 1:20 pm |
  117. Jacob

The cost of a ride to school is just outrageous to even think of. I think it should be for free so the kids can get to school on time to get their education, while their parents still get to work and get payed.

    September 13, 2010 at 1:22 pm |
  118. Austin

I do not believe in this at. I don't think that the families should be paying for this because they already have to pay for going to school even though it's a law and kids have to go to school. The parents already have to also pay for school supplies which is easily over 80 dollars. Some parents like mine have more than 1 kid. I have 3 little sisters that are going into school and if this was the case where I live that would not be good. My parents would have to pay 2 thousand dollars. But it's not just about me it's about hundreds of families having to pay money for bus when it costs less to drive. But some parents have to go to work in the morning. I just dont think that this is right.

    September 13, 2010 at 1:22 pm |
  119. Terrell

I don't think it's fair because 2 miles is too far for some little kids to walk. Also in the winter it wouldn't be safe for kids to be outside for as long as it takes to walk 2 miles. The school also needs to think about the other dangers such as getting hit by a car, being kidnapped, and getting lost.

    September 13, 2010 at 1:22 pm |
  120. Emily

If I were to face this sort of situation I would buy a bike. My parents would not be able to give me a ride everyday because they work and my sister is graduating. $400 is way to much to spend on a bus and walking two miles is too much. So, I would but a bike and ride that to school everyday.

The kids should not have to pay a fee for something that the schools provide! Familys dont just have money laying around their houses! I mean really, the schools should provide that. If they need money so badly then they should have a fundraiser or something!!

parents from other schools shouldn't have to pay 400 dollars that is a lot of money they shouldn't have to pay because how bad the ecomony is right now parents are not making alot of money

    September 13, 2010 at 1:41 pm |
  126. hallie

i dont like that you have to pay $400, because some parents have to go to work, and have no way to take there kids to school, so they relay on the bus ,and if they have to pay that then they probably cant afford it.

    September 13, 2010 at 1:41 pm |
  127. sasha

I you make people pay bus fees then the parents wont have money to pay for other things like new cloths for school or afford to pay for other expenses like feeding your child or putting gas in your car. I think its too much money to pay for bus fees and if they do pass that law the parents will just start taking there child to school.

    September 13, 2010 at 1:42 pm |
  128. Summer

I think that paying $400 to ride the school bus is really dumb because nobody will pay to use the school bus. I would say that if you want some money for them to ride the school make them pay at least $1 every time they ride the bus. $400 is way too much.

    September 13, 2010 at 1:42 pm |
  129. Dalton

I think that students/parents shouldn't have to pay 400$ to ride the school bus. I think that 400$ is way to much just to ride the bus to school. Schools should just do fundraisers to earn money.

    September 13, 2010 at 1:42 pm |
  130. Isabella

I think its stupid that people are going to have to pay that much money to ride the bus to school. Parents have their kids ride the bus so they don't have to take them and it also saves money for the parents so they don't waste money on gas when the school should be responsible to take them. So i would not be paying that $400-$500. I would be talking to the school board and getting other parents who don't want to pay just like you together.

    September 13, 2010 at 1:45 pm |

    September 13, 2010 at 1:46 pm |
  133. Paiton

I think it is ridiculous that they are making you pay to ride the bus. There are many people who ride the bus so they don't have to be seen near their parents in the morning cause they look awful. no offense to anyone. So I feel bad for the people who have to ride with their parents.

    September 13, 2010 at 1:47 pm |

I think that it is not fair that they have to pay 400$ to ride the bus. I think it should be free for students. But in some ways i think they should pay a little bit like 100$ or less. But they shouldn't have to pay 400$.

    September 13, 2010 at 1:51 pm |
  137. Shelby

I think 400$ is way to much to pay for riding a bus. so i think they should give us busses for free and we can just raise more money by fundraisers!

I think parents shouldn't have too pay for riding the bus. But all of us should start car ppooling.

    September 13, 2010 at 1:58 pm |

I think that the bus price is unfair and insensitive to the poorer families. The school district should consider to change the price to be much cheaper or give the option for a free or very reduced price for riding the bus.

I would probably just walk to school or carpool. I might still ride the bus if the prices were lower, alot lower. but otherwise i just wouldn't take the bus anymore.

I normal get i ride to school from my mom and my dad picks me up. but if i was faed with that problem the i would ask a friend and if i couldnt get a ride then i would walk or ride my bike

The school should just pay for the bus and let people ride it for free. I just get a ride or ride my bike. The bus stopped coming to my neighbor-hood because I "live to close".

I think they should pay alot less because some people can't afford it. I think the kids should not walk two miles thats a little too long to walk. But maybe if some people want to pay some money they can if they want to.

I think paying for the bus is a stupid idea. Why would you have to pay for something they provide for kids that there parents cant take them.

    September 13, 2010 at 2:03 pm |
  148. Jenna

i think that 400 dollars for buses is much too high, mainly because so many people rely on them. many parents have to be to work at a certain time, which means they CAN'T take their kids to school. Walking from such a far distance isn't fun. We have little time to get to school after school starts at 8:00 a.m. and in sometimes severe weather conditions. we wouldn't have relied on buses in the first place if we didn't need them. so, OBVIOUSLY, a charge that high, is REDICULOUS.

I think that the idea of paying to ride the bus for four to five hundred dollars is wrong. They sould figure somthing eles out. Its hard for small children to walk two miles.

    September 13, 2010 at 2:06 pm |
  151. Rusty

In myopinion students shouldn't have to pay that much just to ride the bus to school. I don't live in close walking distance to my school, so if i was in that situation would ask my parents to take me. If they couln't then i would ride with my friends.

I think that having to pay 400 dollers to ride the bus is ridiculous... its not like we want to go to school anyways having to pay to get to school is something no one wants to do.. people cant afford to pay to get to school, expecially now during the resession. if they continue to do that the parents that cant afford to get there kids to school are just going to take them out

    September 13, 2010 at 2:08 pm |
  154. rachel

I think that is very wrong. sick, actually. although you would get your excersize. but when winter comes around that's going to be a problem. the kids who live that far are probably not happy nor rre the parents that have to pay that price in order for their kid to take the bus.

    September 13, 2010 at 2:08 pm |
  155. Nolan

Having to ride the school bus for a fe of 400 dollars is outradgous, its bad enough parents have to pay for school, now we have to pay for a ride to school. I think they should lower the price of school bus riding.

    September 13, 2010 at 2:09 pm |

I don't think its right to make parents pay for student busing. The school should make budget cuts in the teacher work days they have off.

I don't think it is smart to pay for bus rides becaus eii will make more people drive there kids to school or make them walk. no one wants to pay the money for a bus ride that is the schools job!

I understand why the school districts would feel the need to charge bus rides...i still think that it's wrong. I mean a five year old should NOT have to walk to school. And some people may need the ride but can not afford it.

I think that most people understand that the school bus cost is alot of money for the school to pay alone, and i think that some parents would be willing to help with that but $400 dollars is an extravagant amount of money and alot of familys cant afford that.

I think that getting rid of buses would not be a very smart thing. Because some kids ride the bus because there parents are at work. Then how would the kids get to school because riding your bike or walking to miles is a far way to walk.

I think you should not have to pay to ride the bus its a little ridiculous. If they made us pay that i wouldost likley have to ride my bike to school. Sometimes i might be able to get a ride from my mom or something.

    September 13, 2010 at 2:42 pm |
  173. Tori

I think that taxes are part of paying for school busses anyway so making parents pay an extra $400-$500 could really upset parents that don't have the money. So i think more kids will end up car pooling or walking, maybe if the school district had them put $0.25-0.50 cents in a day would be more convientent then forking out 400 dollars at once.

    September 13, 2010 at 2:42 pm |
  174. Ben

I think that paying $400-$500 for your child to ride the bus for a year is not a good idea. Some parents can't afford that and some parents have to work. If you had to pay anything you should only pay $50-$100.

    September 13, 2010 at 2:42 pm |
  175. Stephen

I dont think 400 dollars to ride the bus is a good idea. Maybe like 50 dollars or something close to that. If you are in 8th grade now by the time you graduate you would have payed 1600 dollars just to ride the bus.

Two miles is too far to walk; however, half a mile is not. I don't see it as a problem to pay for a bus, but the people that live father away should be paying more. Perhaps around $50 per student is more fair unless they live very far away.

  183. Alice

I think 2 miles is way to far to walk and the car pickup lines are so long and its a safety hazard, but paying that much money?!!! we don't have that kind of money what if you had 3 kids?! if that's what it comes to i would walk yeah its far but honestly it would be easier and cost less!!

    September 13, 2010 at 3:03 pm |
  184. Ashley

I think that 2 miles is pretty far for someone to drive, even if they are carpooling. Even so, I don't know if I would pay to go on a bus.

    September 13, 2010 at 3:04 pm |
  185. Noah

Buses don't get you to school as fast as a car pool can because of all the extra pickups. So why pay for slower transportation?

    September 13, 2010 at 3:21 pm |
  186. Raeann

I think its dumd to pay 400 dollars to ride school bus . I would never pay that much to ride the school bus.

  187. Travis

i would walk or tack the cata bus either one of them would be cheaper or i would go to a closer school because i dont want to ride the cata there mite be criminals on the cata bus and i dont want to walk across busy streets

    September 13, 2010 at 3:22 pm |
  188. Melissa

First of all they should just take away that fee! That is not fair and the district should put them selves in the parents shoes and see how they like it, having to send they're offspring walking to school since they live no farther than two miles. Now if I had absolutley no choice to decline that new school district law I would have to say that i would start walking or drive with my parents.

    September 13, 2010 at 3:34 pm |
  189. Julia

I dont have to ride the bus but this is outrageous $50 in understandable but $500!!?!??!!?!

    September 13, 2010 at 3:36 pm |
  190. Jane

Very unfair to students, you cannot ask kids to walk 2 miles. Most of the parents are at work well before the kids go to school and they depend on the bus. Now if you are going to start asking kids to walk, who are going to watch these kids with all these lunatics out their, child molesters, etc. My kids take the bus and if you can't pick them up I guess they just go whenever they feel like it.

    September 13, 2010 at 3:43 pm |
  191. Nick

2 miles is way too far for kids, especially the younger ones, to walk or ride their bike. It could be unsafe for many reasons and could also ware them out. And if the parents were to drive them every morning that is much more spent on gas per year, so either way, the parents are forced to pay more for their kids to get to school, or are putting their child at risk by asking them to walk.

    September 13, 2010 at 3:44 pm |
  192. robert

i would walk, because the school bus fee is to high so i would ride my bike or skate, and walk

    September 13, 2010 at 3:47 pm |
  193. aaron

i think that paying to ride the school bus doesn't make sense and that you minus as well not go to school or go to a different state that doesn't charge money to ride the bus

    September 13, 2010 at 3:50 pm |
  194. sarah

I think that paying $400 or more to ride the school bus is unbelievable parents should not have to pay that much money just to ride the school bus. So what if you have 2 kids lots of people cant afford $1000 and some people have 3 or 4 kids and school charging $400 a piece is bad enough but for the people with 3-4 maybe 5 kids who can afford $2500 on top of taxes, food, bills, etc. i think that is outrageous.

  195. Arkeith CunninGham

Well, I don't Like That You Have Too Pay 400$

    September 13, 2010 at 3:51 pm |
  196. Derek

i don't like the fact that its 400$ dollars because im a walker and if my mom had 400$ my be i would be ridding the bus and i think that there going to lose a lot of bus riders and plus buy bus pass is cheaper.

    September 13, 2010 at 3:53 pm |
  197. robert

I don't think people should pay for transportation at all if it's to and from school, but if we should have to pay it should be no where near four hundred dollars. Not every one can afford that, I'd rather just take the city bus its a lot cheaper.

    September 13, 2010 at 3:53 pm |
  198. Moriah

i think that maby we should pay .50 a day bto ride the bus. The ecomomic is already tight as it is if the government dosn't have the money what makes you think the parents have the money thats where they get there money from in the first place.

    September 13, 2010 at 3:54 pm |
  199. Tatiana

I think that having people pay to ride the bus that alot less people will go to school and get there on time. If they try to get people to pay, less people will ride the bus. The state or the school district should pay.

    September 13, 2010 at 3:56 pm |
  200. Nathan

I think 400 dollars is a little much for paying the school bus, i think 35 dollars would be good and i would like to ride with parents because i know them and trust them, also I think that you could die crossing busy streets and walking

    September 13, 2010 at 3:58 pm |

I think it is stupied we should be able to hide the bus. I could understand if it was a privite school.

I think that making families pay to ride the bus so children can go to school, like they're supposed to, is rediculous. i think that the state or the school district should pay for it.

I think that making people ride the bus is a very good idea. for some resons some schools may not have enogh money. but i think that we should not have to pay 400 maybe 200 or so.

  204. aylyn ( i-lyn )

i think that it is not okay for you having to pay $400 dollars i mean the economy is all ready bad so why would you do that i mean common lets think about others not just our selfs i mean what about non-rich people or kids that dont even have a car what are we going to do when no one wants to ride the bus then what you gonna do ...........nothing

    September 13, 2010 at 4:00 pm |
  205. Mary

I don't think people are going to pay that amount, as just about everyone is low on money due to the economy down turn. This will result in stundents walking or riding their bike to school, which is better than riding the bus. If students are too far, I think they should car pool with friends to save on gas, or ride with their parents.

    September 13, 2010 at 4:00 pm |
  206. Austin

I think this whole thing is uncalled for. Parents shouldn't have to take their kids to school. It's not their job to pay for us to go ride the bus, simply for the fact that our parents have to work. Also if i were to pay for my kids to ride the bus when i get older $400 is way to much.

    September 13, 2010 at 4:00 pm |
  207. Jasmine

I dont think we should have to pay to ride the bus to school, we already pay taxes. Plus some families cant aford to pay that, even if it is only $400.....they could have more than one kid and have to pay atleast a thousand dollars.

i think that students shouldn't pay $400 dollars because certain people cnt afford it. If they can't afford it how would they beable to learn and go to colleage.

    September 13, 2010 at 4:01 pm |
  210. Riley

I think $400 is too much to have parents pay for a bus ride. If they need the money for the buses then they should be fundraising the money for the school and be making that more important. If that doesn't raise enough money and they need Parents to pay then they should run the buses kind of like a city bus where when the student gets on they pay a small fee that way the parent isn't paying this huge fee of $400.

    September 13, 2010 at 4:01 pm |
  211. Kelsey

I think that the School District has a right to collect money to pay for gas and repairs. In Florida kids that live within 2 miles of the school cant ride the bus either. Its fair and every state should do the same. But instead od 400 dollars per student it should be per family!

    September 13, 2010 at 4:02 pm |
  212. trever

i think it is outrages that they are trying to mack parents pay $400 we have rode the bus for all these yaers with no problems and now allof a suden they want us to pay to ride the bus. Instead of making us pay $400 ask for $25 to $50 dollors and you would get a heck of a lot more peaple to pay because that is a resenable price.

    September 13, 2010 at 4:02 pm |
  213. Jasmine

I think having to pay to ride the bus is dangerous because if there is little children walking 2 miles to get home you never know if there is a child abductor anyone could come and take kiddnapp a child. Paying tto ride a bus is stupid STUPIDDDD!!!! The school district should be sued for reckless indangermenet.

    September 13, 2010 at 4:02 pm |
  214. Cory

I dont think its fair. Some families dont have 400$ and that will increase the amount of students not riding the bus which will make the amount of cars in the line will get bigger, causing problems.

    September 13, 2010 at 4:02 pm |
  215. Tim

I think $400 is to much money if they made me pay that much then I would walk or ride my bike.

    September 13, 2010 at 4:02 pm |
  216. Madi

I think you should pay to ride the bus! The school could earn new technology for your school. $400 is a bit much though, but if they charge around $200, then that will be better on peoples wallet, and have a safe way to get to school for their kids.

    September 13, 2010 at 4:02 pm |
  217. Taylor

This is getting obsurd. $400 is way too much to ride to and from school. What if someone has to ride the bus because they live 5 miles from school and their parents cant take them, and they cant afford the bus. Then you have more people with less education.

    September 13, 2010 at 4:03 pm |
  218. Trestin

i think we should not have to pay to ride the bus because i think when we/our parents /state pays for us to be in school it should count for transportation and i think our taxes should pay also so it helps us out not other people

    September 13, 2010 at 4:04 pm |
  219. Chrysta

I think that making parents pay for their children to ride the bus is OUTRAGOUS . Parents that can't afford to pay and can't take or pick up their children shouldn't have to pay these outragously high price of $400-$500. My opinion on this is that Obama should NOT enforce this.

    September 13, 2010 at 4:04 pm |
  220. Sam

i think that that some people can car pool together to make less traffic, if they live in a 1 mile radius they can walk or ride their bikes but we should not have to pay so much money just to ride a bus if they need that much money use tax money besides people are having enough trouble as it is with the economy!

    September 13, 2010 at 4:04 pm |
  221. Sam

I think parents should not be the ones paying the school for gas, espacially not 400 dollars. The scool should just be holding more fundraisers. I do not think its fair for the kids to walk to school that arent in a two mile radius so they have to walk

    September 13, 2010 at 4:05 pm |
  222. Gage

Some parents dont have enough money to pay for the bus at $400.
If you were a parent a parent who has to pay $400 for 1 or more kids to ride the bus for 1 day or a week.
It is important to get the schools fixed up but america has been in debt
for years and will most likely never get out of it eaither.
so it is better not to pay so much when america might not get out of debt.

    September 13, 2010 at 4:06 pm |
  223. Walker

I think that $400 dollars is to much for parents to pay. It should be 150 to ride the bus for the whole year.

    September 13, 2010 at 4:07 pm |
  224. Drake

Very unfair, as well as insensitive! I would understand paying for a bus ride, but maybe more like $50 per school year instead of $400.

    September 13, 2010 at 4:19 pm |
  225. Jbeam

People dont understand the cost of running a school system. A quick fix would be to modify the school schedule to only 4 days a week. Reducing the week will save energy costs, hourly employees, bus costs, and other daily fees. If you had to elminate positions I would suggest counselors and teacher assistants.

    September 13, 2010 at 4:23 pm |
  226. Jonathan

The amount of pay for school buses is getting outrageous. All of us are struggling write now. Most people cannot afford this. But if this is what the economy is calling for, we should try to help it by paying the amount.

    September 13, 2010 at 4:25 pm |
  227. Jessica

My parents would bring me, but there's something else. I get to school late with them bringing me. So I think that's kind of dumb. If a kid dies walking to school because of traffic they would get in trouble. They need to rethink what they're doing. Our line for pick ups are pretty big and some people have to ride the bus like my friend who lives more than two miles away. I can't even run a mile at school!

I think that's cruel...$400 dollars to ride the bus is ridiculous.I would ride a bike. It's more entertainment. Some students need transpertation. When I was looking at the traffic I thought, "Woah."

who would be out of thier right mind to stress parents and students with such a silly thing? i understand that the school district may be needing help with money but asking for four hundred is a little much i think. im sure they could find a much more resonable way to ask fer help.

I would carpool if I lived in Framingham still. I lived there 1 1/2 years ago, and the bus service wasn't very good. I was on a mini-bus and they cut that, so before I moved, I was on a bus shared between 2 schools, Hemenway and Dunning. I really disliked it because the bus was really crowded, and we were always a little late for school. I hope that Framingham won't charge families for bus transportation, but if they do, carpooling is the way to go

    September 13, 2010 at 4:44 pm |
  238. Stephanie

I think that $400 to ride the school bus is way too much. But there should be a fee because it would help pay for the buses and gas money because the people whose parents drive them to school have to pay for gas so the ones that don't should still have to pay even if they are drivng themselves. They should have to pay to have other people drive their kids to school.

    September 13, 2010 at 4:44 pm |
  239. Morgan

I think that making a parent pay for bus fair is a bad idea but in some ways good. For parents to have to pay over $400.00 for a bus fair is WAY pricey! But to make it a fair amount would be good, because to make the school district pay for repair and gas on a good amount of buses just puts them more and more into debt.

    September 13, 2010 at 4:44 pm |
  240. RILEY

i think $400 is way too much to pay to get a ride from the bus.I ride the bus everyday because its a long walk to my school from where i live, but id rather walk everyday than have to pay that money.

    September 13, 2010 at 4:45 pm |
  241. Taylor

I think that's way to much to pay to ride the school bus, I mean, if your 10 or older you should ride your bike to school and not be lazy because the younger kids should get to use the school bus when the other kids are more durable and trustworthy then the younger ones.

    September 13, 2010 at 4:45 pm |
  242. Kadeisawsome

i think that is way to much to pay to ride the school bus. I think if you are 10 or older you should ride your bike. 2 miles isnt that far on a bike. The younger kids shouldd get to use the bus when the older kids can ride a bike that far and are more trustworthy..........

$400 BUCKS!!! Im i being punked... come out Ashton! If you have to pay then you should walk! I hate walking but I do it anyways... It makes you think where the school taxes are going???

    September 13, 2010 at 4:46 pm |
  244. Braydn

we shoudn't have to pay that much to ride a bus. This means like 95% of the kids aren't going to ride the bus and most are going to get a ride, walk, or ride a bike. Most likly are parents arent going to pay that monsteres amount of money. So, hope fully schools aren't going to do that.

    September 13, 2010 at 4:47 pm |
  245. Leah

I think that parents should'nt have to pay for their children to ride the bus. Instead I think the school should cut down on some things instead of making the parents pay their own money. It isn't save for children to walk to school.

    September 13, 2010 at 4:48 pm |
  246. Holly

I think that paying 400 dollars to ride the bus is too much money. I would rather walk to my school so my parents can save 400 dollars on something more reasonable like groceries, or gas. If it was around 50 dollars it would be better on most likely everyone.

    September 13, 2010 at 4:48 pm |
  247. Loraina

I think that $400 is way to much. Some people and most people cant afford to pay 400 for the school bus. I think that maybe $50 to $100 is better. If some parents want to pay more then maybe they could help out and donate more.

    September 13, 2010 at 4:48 pm |
  248. Jocelyn

This makes no sense i mean kids need rides to school that’s stupid that a fee would have to be paid. Yes there are many other ways to get to school like walking, getting a ride, riding your bike or getting a ride from other family members or friends that go to the same school. I think it’s unfair to kids and parents to pay this fee just to get a ride to school for education. It is very understandable that the district is losing money but they shouldn’t punish parents and kids by having kids not having transportation to school and having parents pay a 400 dollar fee. This may be my opinion but I’m pretty sure others will agree this is just ridiculous.

    September 13, 2010 at 4:48 pm |
  249. Delmis

I think its very outrageous that parents should pay $400 dollars on top of having to pay taxes. If they forced the parents to pay they should atleast make it a more reasonable amount that more parents can actually afford!!!! If the school does go with the idea of making parents pay for their childrens transportation it would just make the number of student that ride the bus go lower everyday and they will get rides which will be the same as paying for gas every month

    September 13, 2010 at 4:48 pm |

$400 dollars to ride a bus, thats rediculouse ,if you could get there on a bus you could do the same on a bike.why not just ride a car youd get there twice as fast and for way cheaper.

    September 13, 2010 at 4:50 pm |
  252. Jane

It is unfair that the school administrators would put this outrageous fee on the children and their parents. It wouldn't be a problem if the town had sidewalks so kids could walk to school, but there are no sidewalks so they absolutely have to have busing for students. However, the 6 million dollar cuts have to come from somewhere

paying to ride the school bus is a bad idea. for some kids thats the only way they have to get to school, and others live to far away from the school to walk. and arent some of the taxes our parents pay going to schools?? they should use that to help out with paying the school bus fees.

I think that this is unfair to do. All Americans, if not all people, deserve the right to have an education. I believe this also includes the right to have transportation to an education. Some people don't have the money to to drive their children to school everyday, and are dependent on district transportation. If you take this away from people within 2 miles of a school, it is very dangerous, especially with no crossing guards, and unfair. Safety is very taken lightly in this situation. Children could get hurt, lost, etc. This is a careless decision, for parents as well as students, and $400 is a lot to pay just to ride to school, especially in a deep recession.

I can probably run 2 miles in about 12 minutes, and that is on flat land. Imagine having to walk up hills, crossing busy streets, on a terribly hot day. This is while your carrying books from school after just having a downright bad day. I would probably, just wait there until morning! I know that is exaggerating a bit, but I wouldn't be too happy. That could take more than half an hour! Now imagine being a 1st or 2nd grader. Walking every morning, and every afternoon, 5 days a week, 36 weeks a year. That is unfair.

Lastly, I just want to conclude that safe arrival and departure from school is just as important as school itself. Let's think bright, America!
Good luck Massachusetts students and safe walking!

There is no use in charging people to ride the school bus because nobody is going to ride the bus if that's the case. If they want money they have to earn it.

    September 13, 2010 at 5:45 pm |
  268. Lesley

I dont think it's reasonable at all to ride the bus to school if it's goin to cost that much.. now, if they had a more reasonable price`& reason, then i'd understandd.. but thats just my opinion.

    September 13, 2010 at 5:45 pm |
  269. Alice

um..I think that if the schools are going to keep the high payment for the buses, its not a good plan.
it will just increase the school money payment and if the price of riding a bus is high ,parents will still drive their kids in their cars.
Maby it will be easy and it will fix the trafic problem, but this payment is too high.
I mean ,come on ..that payment : NOBODY IS GOING TO RIDE!

    September 13, 2010 at 5:49 pm |
  270. Katie

I would rather start a carpool; it would be fun, and you get some extra time to hang with your buds! Plus paying $400 is just too much.

    September 13, 2010 at 5:52 pm |
  271. Caitlyn

Without a bus to take me to school i wouldn't have a ride because i don't even live near my school. I ca't imagine my parents having to pay 400$ for me to get to school thats just crazy..

    September 13, 2010 at 5:53 pm |
  272. Jake

The bus should not charge $500 to ride i would just walk 22 miles to school.

  273. Mr.Perezs' 4th period

okay well in MY school, I'm in high school and they have no school buses available for us we have to get to school however we can... either parent pickup/drop-off or take a public bus OR take the metro which is a block away from the school so whatever.. i still don't think its right that the making kid/parents pay $400 for a transportation on bus just for like 10-20 minutes that it. these schools are becoming really cheap later they gonna take away our school food and stuff cuz they wont be able to afford it cheap people! what the hell they doing with the taxes and stuff thats not right ! us kids dont work to earn 4-5 $$ daily just to take a bus

    September 13, 2010 at 6:07 pm |
  274. DAISY

I believe that paying $400 for a bus ride is way to expensive , especially in this economy . Many parents cant afford paying this much for each child that goes to school . If they would apply this i would take car pool because its cheaper in gas wise and its much faster. The buses take way much longer than a car ride because it has to stop in all the stops to pick all the childern up . Its way to expensive and 2 miles its to much to walk

    September 13, 2010 at 6:08 pm |
  275. Tyler

I think it is outragues that your parents would have to pay to ride the bus. The Massachusetts goverment aparently does not have the monny to pay for school buses. But you should not make parents pay get it from somewhere else.

    September 13, 2010 at 6:08 pm |
  276. Mr.Perezs' 4th period

and its funny because you dont even pay that much in a public bus hahaha :DD

    September 13, 2010 at 6:09 pm |
  277. Emma

It is insane that people need to pay $400 just to ride the bus. I would car pool though if that was the case.

    September 13, 2010 at 6:10 pm |
  278. Raylene

They shouldn't even charge that much money, they should at least drop it even lower. They should get a vote on what they should do, then it would eaiser.

    September 13, 2010 at 6:10 pm |
  279. Tyler

When you're talking about a method of public transportation, you come between a rock and a hard place. Making parents pay the fee causes them to seriously lose money in thei pockets, if they even have any to begin with. However, with budget cuts on education across the United States, we should start wondering whether it would be better for them to stop funding buses, or the classrooms.

    September 13, 2010 at 6:13 pm |
  280. Bingo

Would we rather have schools stop funding education or buses? Would we rather have kids in the classroom and not learn? Or would we rather have a great education no children there. Even if they do pay for busing, how is that going to affect the millions of people that use the buses for school transportation?

    September 13, 2010 at 6:15 pm |
  281. Ray

the parents problie can't afford it

    September 13, 2010 at 6:20 pm |
  282. Jake

I have to ride the bus to get to school and get home and my sisters ride the bus to so my parents would pay $1200 so we can get to school and come home.

    September 13, 2010 at 6:29 pm |
  283. kaitlyn

the economy is bad so why would parents want to pay that much.i mean ya its better for the communty but its bad for the parents

    September 13, 2010 at 6:30 pm |
  284. aidin

I think that taxes are part of paying for school busses anyway so making parents pay an extra $400-$500 could really upset parents.Especially the parents that don't have the money.
If my parents coudnt find any carpools to put me in and had no other way of getting me to school, they would have to work extra and thats not fun because i will see them way less. Also i wouldnt be able to walk to school because i live way too far and some days it might be raining and i cant walk in the rain.

    September 13, 2010 at 6:38 pm |
  285. Mary

$400 for a bus ride?!? First of all, buses aren't the greatest transportation. How are families with 2 or more children going to cough up $400+ to let their kids ride a bus? It would maybe be cheaper to just drive them the two miles! However, if parents start work early and end late how are kids going to get to and from school? If that school continues this "budget cut" more kids will be walking which will mean a greater chance of something happening to them.

    September 13, 2010 at 6:38 pm |
  286. Nikki

That school needs to help students set up a carpool list! I carpool with friends that live near me everyday. It's fun, easy, cheap, not as stressful as walking, and I get to talk with my friends an extra two times a day. It's also helpful because it's a great time to ask my peers about homework.

    September 13, 2010 at 6:38 pm |
  287. Paula

I say they should not make us pay for buses because if we had to, Just me and my two sisters would cost 1,200 dollars all together for just three people!! It is very outrageous.

    September 13, 2010 at 6:39 pm |
  288. Jared

I think it's the right thing to do , I would like to have fun activities to do , so what if there cutting costs ? It's for a good reason to help the school out money is tight these days .

    September 13, 2010 at 6:39 pm |
  289. Anonymous

I guess the bus plan is okay for people who live close to schools, but what about children who live, like, three miles away from a school? How is he/she going to go to school? Especially if both parents work and they can't pay for buses.

    September 13, 2010 at 6:46 pm |
  290. aidin

I think that taxes should pay for school buses so parents should not have to pay $400-$500 just for their child to ride the bus to school, just for one year, especially for the parents that do not have the money.
I would organize a car pool from my neighborhood, that would save money gas and time. Also i would not be able to walk to school it is alittle far to walk and if it is rainy or snowy I would get to school wet and it would be terrible. So i think that paying $400-$500 a person just to get a ride to school is crazy!

    September 13, 2010 at 6:52 pm |
  291. Halle

Parents rely on school buses to take there kids to school when they have to go to work early in the morning. And if parents are having trouble getting some money in their pockets how would they be able to pay $400 or more for multiple kids? i don't think this is right, it is their job to give us a ride to our school!

    September 13, 2010 at 6:59 pm |
  292. Megan

If I were a student at this school I would definitely walk or car pool with other students!! This is too much of an outrageous price! The only way I would pay 400$ to ride this bus if I had 2 broken legs and no car...
I think you should get bus transportation anyway, isn't that what taxes are for!?

    September 13, 2010 at 6:59 pm |
  293. Kurt

I think that paying $400 just to get to school and take you back home is very outrageous especially if you live 3 miles from the school. I'd rather walk or ride a bike to school than pay $400 to ride a bus

    September 13, 2010 at 7:04 pm |
  294. Kurt

its the dumbest idea anyone had ever thought of( unless parents are willing to pay for $400)

    September 13, 2010 at 7:08 pm |

What's the point of learning if you can't get to school?

    September 13, 2010 at 7:18 pm |
  296. Kurt

I think that paying $400 just to get to school and to get dropped off back home is just outrageous I'd rather walk or ride a bike to school and back home rather than paying $400 for a bus ride

    September 13, 2010 at 7:19 pm |
  297. Kassandra

$400 per student.Thats not fair because some parents can't afford to spare that much money for one child. What if the parent is single and have more than one child. It will be a disaster

    September 13, 2010 at 7:23 pm |
  298. Gerald

how can people afford that much money and the whole of the US are in a resetion

    September 13, 2010 at 7:26 pm |
  299. Michael

I think 400$ is way to much. So the school should have a fun raiser to pay
for the school. Cause 400$ could make a family go broke.

    September 13, 2010 at 7:32 pm |
  300. elani

I think that you should either walk because it gives you good exersize and would decrese obesity and also decrease pollution as well. Because if you either car pool or walk it would be a better choice. it will also help that specific school have more money to get educational things like school books things like that. so in the end the question is will you walk, ride with a friend, or pay $500.00 dollars to ride the school bus.

    September 13, 2010 at 7:34 pm |
  301. Sammy

Doesn't anybody know how to walk,or jog, or bike, or run, or anything?

    September 13, 2010 at 7:45 pm |

That's crazy! I would never pay 400 dollars to get to school! I believe that it is a right for students that can't find another way to school to get a ride on the bus

    September 13, 2010 at 7:47 pm |
  303. Sarah

I don't know anybody who would pay to ride to school. If it's a public school then it should be a public bus. I know that everybody is short on money(especially the schools), but couldn't they find a better solution? I'd rather just catch a ride from a friend.

    September 13, 2010 at 7:52 pm |
  304. Madison

In Douglas County we already pay for buses I think that is way to expensive for parents to pay $400 that is just way to high!We pay 50 cents each way to ride the bus I walk to school because I live right behind it. Well that's it!

P.S. Don't think you parents should pay $400 you already do wonderful thing for us!

My grandma would have to drive me!

    September 13, 2010 at 8:13 pm |
  306. Joel

I think that is crazy to have to pay $400 just for bus services.I know that the buses have to pay for gas and they might be low in school funds, but I think riding the bus should be a privilage. If my school cut bus services and asked the students of the school to pay $400 for them, I would just walk to school.

    September 13, 2010 at 8:14 pm |
  307. Madeeha

I understand that the school system needs to cut money, but all of a sudden asking $400 monthly is a big jump. I would never ride the school bus if it cost that much. I would ask my mom to drop me off because my school is five minutes away. If there was a sidewalk I would walk.

    September 13, 2010 at 8:17 pm |
  308. Rachel

First of all, asking parents to pay for there child to ride the bus is so not needed. If that happened to me, I would just ask my parents to drive me, or I would talk to the principal to reconsider there dicision to have parents pay or to at leat lower the cost. Especially in this economy, not everyone can afford that right now.

    September 13, 2010 at 8:22 pm |

The school bus is for those who cant get a ride from their parents or friends, basically for those without any way of transportation and I think yes you should pay for the school bus because it costs alot of money for gas.

    September 13, 2010 at 8:33 pm |

Even though it may cost a lot to pay for the buses gas it is not right for the parents to pay for something that schools are supposed to provide.

I ride a school bus, because my mom used to take me to school in till the gas price got higher. And I think it is not fair for parents to pay $400 or $500 dollars for to ride a bus to school.

    September 13, 2010 at 8:35 pm |
  312. chrissy

i think that charge kids money to ride the bus is not a good thing for many many distircet because that would clean out parent walets and make many famliys poor and then families won`t be able to afford clothes and books and house and food

    September 13, 2010 at 8:35 pm |

I would not ride the bus if i had to pay that much money! I would either walk or carpool with friends. I would ride my bike too!

It is unfair how children are expected to take the responsibility of a parent and pay the cost or walk. walking can be dangerous now days with the recent kidnapping and shootings that have been occurring this day in age. The truth is, no one said anything about not taking a public transportation route or bus.

    September 13, 2010 at 8:45 pm |
  315. Muhammed

I think that is very expensive and unfair. The district should provide money for the school. Many parents know would opt there kids to have to ride the bus because some wouldnt be able to afford them. I really hope they dont make us pay.

    September 13, 2010 at 8:53 pm |
  316. croix

To pay $400 dollars to ride a school bus is just unfair! I would have half a mind just to carpool and go to school that way! the school board and principles should look at it our way , not just there way!

    September 13, 2010 at 8:55 pm |
  317. Megan

I think this is crazy! With so many budget cuts already and parents paying a lot as it is! I don't think they should have to pay for busing or give thier child a ride! What would happen to the families who couldn't afford it and have a busy schedule!?

    September 13, 2010 at 8:55 pm |
  318. Mary

Let's face it; there's no perfect way to cut back in this economy, and sometimes it's just more drastic than others. This is actually a relatively reasonable way to do it (although I believe they should allow for those below the poverty line to apply for government subsidation); I mean, they're cutting back on fuel, allowing more money for non-negotiable things like textbooks, supplies, and such, and for those who choose to walk, bike, etc., it allows for more of the excercise you need daily. I personally would take the hike and do what I could for the community; no matter how grueling the task.

this is crazy why so much money for a bus ride

    September 13, 2010 at 9:09 pm |
  323. Bob

How is this supposed to help the ecconomy if parents cant even afford it! I bet most parents will just drive their kid to school which is also hurtful to the enviorment and more traffic to get to school each day.

    September 13, 2010 at 9:14 pm |
  324. Molly

I think making ANY family pay $400 for each of their children that rides the bus is totaly unfair! But due to the gas prices I do think, however, that a small fee of $40-$50 max. would be acceptable. It just isn't fair to make all families pay that much, especially those who do not have as much money as others or might depend on the bus for their childrens transportation.

    September 13, 2010 at 9:16 pm |
  325. JESUS

I THINK THAT SCHOOL BUSSES SHOULDN'T CHARGE $400 BECAUSE ITS TOO EXPENSIVEAND MORE PARENTS WILL RUSH IN TO TAKE THEIR CHILDREN TO SCHOOL AND I'LL TAKE LOTS OF TIME BECAUSE OF LINES AND SOME CARS MAY CRASH TO FOR BEING IN A IN A HURRY.

    September 13, 2010 at 9:21 pm |

$400 seems a bit much, esspecially for buses. The reason why people choose the bus if because it's cheaper and safer.

To pay money to be on a SCHOOL bus isn't right. It whould free because it is public transportation. And besides walking is good for you.

  332. Wow

This is bad....people who are district people are really selfish...they should care about the people who go to the school not about the money, because instead of paying the bus fees, the could just cut after school clubs or something like that.

    September 13, 2010 at 10:57 pm |
  333. Nick

United States students are in school 180 days. If parents pay $400 a year, thats only a little over two dollars a day. I think parents can cut out "supersizing" during their lunch breaks at work if getting their kid home is that important.

    September 13, 2010 at 11:23 pm |
  334. Kaitlin

I think you shouldn't have to pay for bus service. That is just outrageous 4 to 500 dollars per student. I know my school relies heavily on its school bus service being we are a rural school and have a lot of kids coming into town and some kids inside town.

    September 13, 2010 at 11:39 pm |
  335. Dustin

I think it is really crazy parents are having to start paying up to $400 for there kids to ride a bus to school. Haveing school buses is part of being a school. I dont think parents should have to pay for the kids to ride a school bus to school and home a year.

    September 13, 2010 at 11:50 pm |
  336. Amaya

I know schools are facing financial problems but that doesn't mean they have to jump so high. Maybe taking baby steps and starting the price at $100, slowly working their way up would be a better solution.

i think that what the school is doing is appropriate to try to gain money instead of losing some towards the gas matanece. but on the flip side of that the people would whos parents would not be able to afford it and who leave at like 5:30 and have to walk 5 miles to school!

    September 14, 2010 at 8:29 am |

i would ask a ride from my dad and i would be upset if they did cancel school buses because parents has to work early too and they shouldn't be paying for everything. its bad enough that my school is all about money so if they don't have money for school i would ask my parents to question them about that.

    September 14, 2010 at 8:29 am |

I would keep getting a ride from my friend. I would never pay $400 just to ride a bus they are crazy. I think it would be messed up to because some family's might not have money like that.

I would get a ride to school or walk to school. Paying $400 for a ride to school isn't fair at all. I can see paying for other busses but just to get to school is he dumbest thing I ever heared.

    September 14, 2010 at 8:30 am |
  346. Jaclyn.

I think that it is a lot to ask from, for parents who have no choice for there children to take the bus to school, there are parents who work in mornings, and cant take off work to drive or the fact there are parents out there that can't afford paying 400 dollars a month.

    September 14, 2010 at 8:30 am |
  347. Briana

.Paying money to ride a bus to school is just plan wrong. I would start to walking to school. I don't live that far from my school, so walking to school wouldn't be so bad. And half of my friends are already walking to school everyday.

    September 14, 2010 at 8:31 am |
  348. Brandan

I would walk if I had to, but if I am late to school it would not be my fault because I live on the mountain and it would take me a long time to get to my school. I will also walk because my mom does not have that type of money for gas or the bus ride. But I would probably end up switching my schools because that is just ridiculous.

    September 14, 2010 at 8:32 am |
  349. Amanda.(:

it takes me forty five minutes to get to my school, so i can't walk to school. i think its just wrong to make parents pay for a bus ride, thats the schools responsibility to get us there on time and if your parents drive or if you walk your not always certain to get there on time. my mom doesn't work, and my step dads in the military. i don't have time to get a job to help my parents pay i like honestly have to really focus on school this year and have no distractions, plus i take care of my baby brother all the time. i really disagree with having to pay so much, especially with the economy we have today.

    September 14, 2010 at 8:32 am |
  350. Amina

If my school were to raise prices on school busses, I guess it would be all up to my mother if she wants to pay it or not. Which I am sure she probably wouldn't be, so therefore I would try and have my sister take me , and some days carpool with friends. I think once a rule is changed, it's changed. Usually it takes a good amount of people to re change it, and i'm sure that wouldn't happen so I would just try and find my own ride.

    September 14, 2010 at 8:32 am |
  351. Jeniffer

I think having to pay $ 400 just to ride the school bus is so stupid because parent’s hardly even have money to pay the bills and the school thinks we have the money to pay for buses and most parents don't work, I think its better if we carpool or have our parents drop us off to school and if you live close or not to far from the school just walk. We go to school for our education and we should have a ride to go to school which is the bus if my school made us pay 400 dollars to ride the bus I would switch schools.

    September 14, 2010 at 8:32 am |
  352. Lucas

I personally would have to have my mom drive me until i got my license. I live 9-10 miles away from my school, and that is way to far to walk to school. Also I know that my parents and many other parents in the school district would not be able to pay $400-$500 dollars per child to ride the bus. Guess that just leaves the car.

    September 14, 2010 at 8:33 am |
  353. Brandon

I think paying $ 400 to ride the bus is crazy, why should we have to pay to ride the bus when our parents pay for school taxes. I think they should take the money out that parents pay for taxes and use that. Not everybody has a ride to get to school. If this happened to my school i would do cyber schooling instead or find some other way to get education.

    September 14, 2010 at 8:33 am |

I don't ride the bus but I think that is absurd. I have many friends that have too. Maybe if the buses were clean and nicer I would understand. I think they should cut the due and off topic Clean up the bus or buy new ones.
I go to [a school] where we don't have to ride them but I think kids have the right to a clean cheap bus.

  356. Maxwell

I think that is way to exspensive to ride a school bus i thought that it was a public transportation for kids and we pay for it in our taxes or the education lottery. Were does all that money go??

    September 14, 2010 at 9:17 am |
  357. Teechur

Would you rather have classes with 35-40 students because you must cut a teacher – OR have a school bus to ride to school? The cuts have to come from somewhere!

I don't think it's right for the schools to make kids walk two miles to bet home. Especially for the younger kids it's not safe.

    September 14, 2010 at 9:57 am |
  364. isaias

I beleive that the parent or guardien should pay $400 for a bus ride that really is not needed for some kids i think parents should just car pool to school or just take the bus and pay

    September 14, 2010 at 9:57 am |

I do not honk that the kids should have to walk two miles to and from school.

    September 14, 2010 at 9:58 am |

I think that Students who walk should atleast have sidewalks to walk on. If I had to walk 2 miles to school I probably wouldn't go.

Paying for the bus is stupid

    September 14, 2010 at 9:58 am |

I dont think $400 dollar for riding the school bus is a good idea, because is not really smart to pay to ride the school bus, and i dont think that the parent will agree this!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    September 14, 2010 at 9:58 am |
  369. Brad

I think that the school should hold a fundraiser to raise part of the cost, get sponsors to raise part of it, and make the parents pay only like 50-100 dollars.

    September 14, 2010 at 9:59 am |
  370. Athena

I dont believe this is a good idea. Some people can not afford to pay that much just to take the school bus. And who would want to walk to school in the winter time for 2 miles? I dont think that would be fair to the students if their parents couldn't drive them so they had to walk 2 miles.

    September 14, 2010 at 10:00 am |
  371. Morghan

I think that they should find another way to get money besides making parents pay. I don't know but have they cut their own salaries, the super intendants.

    September 14, 2010 at 10:00 am |
  372. Shane

I think that's way to expensive if I lived there I would just carpool with my friends

    September 14, 2010 at 10:01 am |
  373. Gabrielle

I think buses should be alowed to at school with out paying because alot of kids cant walk because school is so far. kids that are in wiheel chairs that couldnt affored to pay for the bus would have a big problem. There fore schools should have buses without pay.

    September 14, 2010 at 10:03 am |
  374. Julia

I think it is just wrong to make kids pay just to ride the bus ecspecially for 400 hundred dollars . Because what if the kids walk to school and they got kidnapped because the school made the kids who live within 2 miles of their school walk or what if their friends parent s couldn't drive the kids or the parent got in a car accident while driving them there.ten it would be the schools fault becase they made them do that and then the school should make riding the freebecause what if the family was poor and couldn't afford to pay for their kid or kids to ride the bus so that is what i believe

    September 14, 2010 at 10:04 am |
  375. breana

I think peoplewould not be able to afford that kind of money .Parnts would not afford the moneyeven when they have more than one child at that school.

  376. comily

how about motorcycle? fast and save money and no tired.
so economic. 400 ?that school is thief.

  377. ryan

If the school is getting bad enough to where they have to start charging families that have students $400 per student then obviously the school is doing something wrong with managing money. Just because they can not manage money don't take it out on the students, and their families. If the school can not afford the school bus then the school should be shut down. It is the school's fault so don't blame the students in it.

    September 14, 2010 at 10:09 am |
  378. Nolan

I don't think they should make people pay to ride the bus because some parents can't afford it and they work all day so they don't have time to go take/pick up their kid from school every day, so kids would have to walk and some of them might be pretty young so something bad could happen or they could get lost

    September 14, 2010 at 10:09 am |
  379. Grace

I think that the schools really need to consider that if the elementary school kids have to walk a long way to school it could be dangerous.Paying dues for buses is not a good sulution either, the schools should think of some other way to do budget cuts.

    September 14, 2010 at 10:12 am |
  380. mack

If the bus service was canceled or we had to pay for them I would start walking because I am not paying four hundred dollars for the bus. I do not live to far away from my school so I would not have a problem walking every day. And if I do not feel like walking one day I could always call my mom and ask her to come pick me up. But I still think i would be crazy to stop the bus service because some kids can not get a ride or walk home from school, so they should just keep it.

    September 14, 2010 at 10:13 am |
  381. Christian

if my school buses were cancelled i would just get a ride to school from my mom. I dont think it's fair that they make the kids pay to use the bus. The school should just to find someway around and pay for it. They should do a fundraiser for the kids so they can raise money to go on.

    September 14, 2010 at 10:14 am |
  382. Steven

No, I think that parents should not have to pay to ride the bus becuse the econiton is down.

    September 14, 2010 at 10:14 am |
  383. Bridget

I don't know what I would do to get to school. The easiest thing to do would be to carpool with a friend. There's not many people that go to my school that live around me though. My mom and dad both work in the morning so they couldn't give me a ride. The school is too far of a walk from my house, and it would be hard to raise the money. I normally take the bus so I don't know what I would do.

    September 14, 2010 at 10:14 am |
  384. Amber

If i lived 2 miles from school, and the school buses were canceled, i think i would just get a ride from one of my friends. Maybe you can walk, but if its raining or snowing its not a good idea. That is why i think that it is a dumb idea for schools to cancel busing because some kids won't have a ride to school, and would have to walk in the rain or cold.

    September 14, 2010 at 10:15 am |
  385. Anjelica

If my school bus was canceled i would try to find a ride. I would either get a ride from one of my friends or family members. I think it would be dumb if they took the school buses away because many people live way to far from the school. The $400 dollars a year to ride a bus is outrageous.

    September 14, 2010 at 10:15 am |
  386. Mason

If school buses were canceled and costed money to ride them, i would get a ride with friends and sometimes with family because i think it's stupid that we would have to pay to get to school when the government who makes us go just keep stacking up money for themselves in there closet and not loaning any to schools and other facilities that could actually use it.

    September 14, 2010 at 10:15 am |
  387. Matt

If my school district were to cancel bus transportation id have no choice but t get a ride from my parents or a friend that drives. I live about 25 miles away from my school and that's impossible to walk and make it to school. If my school were to ever cancel bus transportation I would go to school board meetings and fight to get buses because in our school district we really need bus transportation.

    September 14, 2010 at 10:15 am |
  388. Franco

If my school bus was canceled I would get a ride to school with my friends or get a ride from my parents. My parents and my friends parents would be very angry with the school. So would me and my friends. Also no one has enough money these days to pay 400 dollars for their kid to go to school. If they have more than one kid then they won't have enough money.

    September 14, 2010 at 10:15 am |
  389. Dominique

If my school bus was canceled, i would ask my parents or a friend to drive me to school. I think 2 miles is a hard walk depending where you live. I think students shouldn't be the ones who have to pay $400 to ride a school bus. The school should provide transportation for kids to get an education. Also, some parents have to work and they don't have time to drive their kids to school. Now they have to worry about if their kids get to school safe because they're walking.

    September 14, 2010 at 10:16 am |
  390. Chris

I can't walk because I live 20 miles away.My family is not paying $400 for the bus. I will just have to get a ride with some one. They should not have people pay $400 for a ride to school.

    September 14, 2010 at 10:16 am |
  391. Austin

To pay to go to school is like going to college, public schools are for families that are not exactly " RICH". Public school transportation is provided by the tax payers of that state.

    September 14, 2010 at 10:16 am |
  392. Avery

If our school took away the buses, and the students had to pay the $400 I would probably get a ride from a family member or friend until I get my own car. I do not think that it is right that the school would make the students pay for the busing because some families do not have a lot of money and it would be hard to pay for the busing. I also think that if the families already pay for school taxes why have the families pay $400 busing for their children. The school should try a different way to get the money like a fundraiser or car wash, rather than having the students pay $400 per year to take the bus.

    September 14, 2010 at 10:16 am |
  393. Jaylen

If i had to pay 400$ for the bus i would get a ride from a friend or have my parents take me to school. I think 400$ is a lot just to get a 10 minute ride to and from school.

    September 14, 2010 at 10:16 am |
  394. kyle

if are school buses were cut off, i would get drove to school by my parents. since i don't live far away from the school there wouldn't be a point if the buses were canceled. if the people who take a bus don't have the money then they will have to find a different way. but if the bus is the only way somebody gets the school and cant get pick up or taken by a parent then they will have to pay.

    September 14, 2010 at 10:17 am |
  395. Brittany

I would get a ride from a friend or family member. To pay $400 to ride the bus is ridiculous. I have a brother and a sister and my parents would have to pay over a $1,000 dollars just to get to school. Carpool would be the best way to get to school instead of paying money. Students need to go to school and should not have to decide whether to pay money or walk over 2 miles.

    September 14, 2010 at 10:17 am |
  396. Alicia

If I lived two miles away from my school and I had to choose between walking, paying, or getting a ride, I think I might do all three. I'd get a ride when my mom had off, walk if it was nice out, and pay when I had the money to ride the bus. I don't think anyone should have to pay for buses since parents already pay a school tax and the traffic would be terrible and unsafe from all the people having to take their children to school.

    September 14, 2010 at 10:17 am |
  397. Bronson

I would imagine this school like many others in the country are having budgeting and other financial issues but cutting bus service for most of the students is absurd in my opinion. I would also imagine that the school district receives a good amount of tax revenue for its residents. The school in this situation could obviously budget better, they probably overspend and waste energy and overpay some extra employees. It may be tough out there but not being able to bus students to and from school in this day and age should not be a problem.

    September 14, 2010 at 10:17 am |
  398. Treysean

If school bus service were canceled i would get a ride to school with my friends. I think paying 400$ dollars is a ridiculous amount to pay especially for parents who do not have the money and underclass men who can not find jobs. And even walking two miles to school is dangerous because there are no side walks.

    September 14, 2010 at 10:18 am |
  399. Steven

If the school bus was canceled i would walk or drive to school. I would not pay for a bus if i got a job i would use the money for myself. I would rather drive it would be a lot faster than walking.

    September 14, 2010 at 10:18 am |
  400. Megan

I'd probably walk if I lived within 2 miles of my school, but I don't. It would be very hard to get a ride everyday if my school decided they didn't want to pay for school buses. I'd be missing a lot of school. Some parents just can't drive their kids everyday and it may be dangerous for them to walk. Making parents pay for school buses is just stupid.

    September 14, 2010 at 10:18 am |
  401. Sara

I wouldn't pay the $400 to ride the bus. I would try ride with my friends or get someone in my family to drive me. I would never pay that much money for something that is supposed to be free.

    September 14, 2010 at 10:18 am |
  402. Brandon

If the school bus were canceled, I would ride a bike every day. I believe this is a smart decision because riding a bike is quick, cheap, and does no harm to the environment. Spending $50-$100 on 1 bike is cheaper than $400 per year for a bus ride.

    September 14, 2010 at 10:19 am |
  403. Taylor

I don't think it's a good idea to pay money to ride the bus when they should provide it either way for the kids. Some parents work early in the morning and can't give their kids a ride to school, therefore there should be a free ride to school on the bus.

    September 14, 2010 at 10:31 am |
  404. Mason

I think it is outrageous to have to pay that much!!!!!!!!

    September 14, 2010 at 10:40 am |
  405. storme

by making the parents pay to put their children on the bus, they arent going to have alot of kids go to that school next year. Who would want to go to a school that makes you pay to go on the bus? The whole reason buses are used for school is so then parents who cant take their children to school can have them take the bus, which SHOULD be a nice free way for kids to get to school.( 'free' being the key word) any one who would pay $400-$500 for a ride on the bus should have the bus be an amazingly clean, neat, non-swearing or bad place for kids to go. i mean really!

    September 14, 2010 at 11:12 am |
  406. devin

There are 4 kids just on my little street that go to the same school. All the moms could take turns driving us and picking us up. If somebody couldn't take a turn driving, they could chip in a little bit for gas, and it would still be cheaper than $400 a year for the bus, plus a lot more fun! The bus sucks sometimes.

    September 14, 2010 at 11:20 am |
  407. Foxx

well if my school had got rid of the school bus it wouldnt really effect me i drive myself to school everyday but i think it would effect our schools attendance alot because kids in my school live sometimes 15 miles away

    September 14, 2010 at 11:24 am |
  408. Mike

I would get a ride with my friends because we all have to go to the same place. I think that we shouldn't have to pay to go on a bus because our "school" is suppose to provide transportation to and from school. Also teachers should not have after school programs if we have no bus.

    September 14, 2010 at 11:25 am |
  409. Garrett

I think that schools should look for other ways to make more money. Some parents can not afford it. And some kids are too small to be walking two miles to school. What about them?

    September 14, 2010 at 11:25 am |
  410. Jazzy

I would start a carpool, but as long as you willing to pay gas money it shouldn't be a problem. For the people that think gas money is crazy, think would you rather pay about $12 or $400. Thats what i would do i would start a car pool.

    September 14, 2010 at 11:25 am |
  411. Nickolas

I think $400 just to ride a school bus is crazy! Who in their right mind would do that? It is probably a whole lot less exspensive to drive your kid to school. Why so much money just to and from school?

    September 14, 2010 at 11:26 am |
  412. cody

I do not think that canceling the bus is fair to any one. What if you have two or three kids in the same school? That is gonna be a lot of money for parents. Walking 2 miles in the morning to school is too much. I think they should just keep the buses free.

    September 14, 2010 at 11:26 am |
  413. Alex

This is maddness. they shouldent make our parents pay to ride a bus. If they did then I would walh 2 school.

    September 14, 2010 at 11:26 am |
  414. rebecca

i would get my mom to take me and bring me to school. because i wouldnt want to walk. Because the school would be to far to walk to school so i would get my mom to bring me to school and pick me up everyday

    September 14, 2010 at 11:26 am |
  415. Gabby

I would most likely end up walking to school. Due to the fact that my mom works till pretty late, i wouldn't be able to catch a ride with her. I also don't have the time currently to work and save up the money to ride the bus. So basically I would have absolutely no other choice than to walk. Im just glad that my school isn't n this situation Because I'd have about 16 miles to walk everyday. I can't speak for anyone else but that isn't my idea of fun.

    September 14, 2010 at 11:27 am |
  416. Lemuel

I would ride with my friends because i wouldn't dare pay no $400 for no bus ride. its not like your being pampered or special services or sitting in first class. the buses don't even smell the greatest and most of the times gets you car sick. And the bus drivers always have a stink attitude.

    September 14, 2010 at 11:27 am |
  417. Bob

I think its crazy that you have to pay a 400 to 500 fee to ride the bus. The school should have a enough money to pay almost anything for the students. If i was stuck in this situation i would probably get a ride with a friend or parent.

    September 14, 2010 at 11:27 am |
  418. Autumn

Right now, my transportation to school varies between the school bus and on occasion, my friends. If bussing were cut, I would probably just continue to ride with friends, but not only would it be a huge waste of money, it would be a terrible blow to the environment, too. I think that it is completely unfair, and unethical to make young kids walk two miles to school, especially during the winter months. School busses should be provided for free, for every school.

    September 14, 2010 at 11:28 am |
  419. Alyssa

Even though i don't take the bus to school or from school, I think that I would just drive to school. I think that walking is asking to much for small children and some teens, if its a law to go to school I think the school should at least provide Transportation.

    September 14, 2010 at 11:28 am |
  420. shelby

I believe the $400 charge for one student to ride the bus is insane and i rather just get driven to school. If I didn't have to choose out of the 4 options I would rather get home schooled. Buses shouldn't be expensive to ride for the students because if they want us to go to school why charge us to get there. The cost of the per student price would make me not even want to go to school.

    September 14, 2010 at 11:28 am |
  421. kenny

i think that we should not have 2 pay because school buses r for people to ride for free. If u want 2 pay 2 ride a bus then u take a city bus.

i dont think its straight dogg

    September 14, 2010 at 11:31 am |

I think it is ridiculous that schools are trying to charge to ride the bus because some families can barely afford school as it is so its going to be impossible to pay to ride the buss for some families!!

    September 14, 2010 at 11:32 am |
  424. Mercadees

I think that schools should not charge parents for their kids to ride the bus to school kids and parents contribute money to enough school activities...

I think its a bad idea.

    September 14, 2010 at 11:33 am |

    September 14, 2010 at 11:33 am |
  427. Riley

i think this is a horrible idea, some of the kids have no other choice besides ride the bus. Some people cant afford that bill and some people are way to far out and cant walk.

    September 14, 2010 at 11:34 am |
  428. TONY

i would car pull with friends, it gives equal parts on both sides. i think that $400 a year is'nt to bad. but if a kid going to school had $400 dollars to spend on his transportation i am sure he would pick a bike, or a skate board. or i could just get home schooled.

    September 14, 2010 at 11:39 am |

i think a charging 400 dollars just to ride the bus is crime or a ripeoff!

    September 14, 2010 at 1:09 pm |
  430. Zach

I think it's dumb to pay 400 dollars. School buses are supposed to pick you up and go to school. Parents are not going to be able to pay that kind of money to ride a bus. If you are a single parent and have to work at six in the morning, you are not going to be able to take them to school, and some of these parents aren't going let their kids walk because there is a lot of kidnapping.

    September 14, 2010 at 1:26 pm |
  431. Megan

Students should not have to pay $400.00 to ride a bus! If teachers want their students to be present at school to get an education then, they need to get there somehow. Some students, won't be able to afford to pay that much, and they can't get there any other way. If students don't show up at school then parents aren't going to want their kids to move there. It's just not a good idea. Before they make the final decision, they should think about what they are doing first.

    September 14, 2010 at 1:48 pm |
  432. Carl

I would walk. Why waste $400 to ride a school bus? I would walk , but School is to far away. I would ask my parents drive me about halfway and walk the rest while going to school, but after school, I would have practice. Besides, it's good for your body to exercise anyway.

    September 14, 2010 at 1:48 pm |
  433. christie

Some people live a ways away from the school and have little kids so they couldn't walk to school and their parents can't afford it.

    September 14, 2010 at 1:49 pm |
  434. kira

I think that you shouldn't have to pay over $400 dollars per child. Even though the gas is high, still you shouldn't have to pay that much money.
Maybe they could raise a fund razor and that way parents wont have to pay over $400 dollars for their child to ride the bus

    September 14, 2010 at 1:51 pm |
  435. Sydney

I think that it's not a good idea!!!!!! $400 per person!!! You've got to be kidding me!!! If the teachers and principals want them to come to school and get a good education then their gonna have to get to the school somehow!!! It's ridiculous!!!! Now it's understandable paying for a field trip but to ride the bus HOME?!

    September 14, 2010 at 1:52 pm |

i dont think that some people would be able to pay $400 to ride a bus. i think that if the parents are paying for the kids to go to school that the school should at least help to pay with transportation.

i think that this is crazy! alot of parents have to leave for work before its time for their kids to go to school and that could make a problem for the kids. especially if they live 2 miles from the school!

i would walk because thats alot of money for a school bus. my mom has me and my 2 sisters shes not going to pay 1500 just for the school bus to pick us up and take us to school. thats really bad, some parents cannot aford to pay 500 for the son or daughter to go to school.things are really bad now a days they shouldent be charging such a high price just for transportation.

Well to me i think that schools shouldn't charge for bus rides even though
it would help pay for them. I think this because it could lead to an excuse for being tardy or even missing school.

this idea for a 400 dollar bus ride is ridiculous and very expensive. there plenty of parents that don't have money or cant afford transportation for there kids, so the bus is the easiest way.i think the end result will be, alot of kids dropping out of school. the school board really needs to think about thing fully, instead of what there doing, it is not helping with the money issue . your still going to have the same problem because not all the parents are ritch and can afford that.

    September 14, 2010 at 3:19 pm |
  443. Tevin

I think it is stupid to charge parents to ride the bus. Also it is hard for kids to walk I almost have to walk 1/2 miles home and that is far. Plus the nation is hard times and some people can't afford that

    September 14, 2010 at 3:24 pm |
  444. Blanca

I think that the school's should find another way to raised money, because alot of parents don't have jobs, and it's not fair.

    September 14, 2010 at 3:48 pm |
  445. Joshua

$400 is an outrageous price to ride a bus to a school. After all people still have to pay a lot of money to send their children to school. Why pay $400 extra? I would rather wake up at 6:00 every day and walk 2 miles than pay $400 to ride a school bus. It is stupid to make people pay $400 extra in this economy. I would start a carpool with a bunch of people because it saves money and time.

    September 14, 2010 at 4:27 pm |
  446. Blanca

I don't think that the school's should be making the parents pay for their kids to ride the school bus, because some families don't have that much money and they can't afford it. The school's need to find another way to raise money.

    September 14, 2010 at 4:27 pm |
  447. Allie

I think that children shouldn't have to pay to ride the bus because the part of the whole reason kids ride the bus is because they're parents have no way of transportation to get their kids to and from school, so how do you think the kids parents will be able to pay $400?

    September 14, 2010 at 4:38 pm |
  448. Isabel

I would either walk or drive with my parents. Emagine people who have 2 or 3 kids they shouldnt have to pay $1000-$1500 dollars just for there kids to ride the bus. Two miles might be a fairly long walk or bike ride I would rather do that than pay $400 dollars to ride the bus.

400 bucks to ride the bus!Why not just start walking.

I think its okay to charge to ride the bus but $400 is too much, they could charge more for after school programs or other things.

    September 14, 2010 at 5:02 pm |
  451. Brianna

I understand that the schools need money to pay for buses but I think that amount is extreme. $400?? What if a family consists of 3 children. That's $1,200 just for the bus! Schools should have buses but we shouldn't have to pay costly prices for them. It is a safety hazard if we don't have the buses also. They are needed.

    September 14, 2010 at 5:03 pm |
  452. Thomas

I think the parents in the neighborhood could have a fundraiser to make some money to pay for the bus rides. For example,A bake sale

    September 14, 2010 at 5:20 pm |
  453. fernando

I think having to pay $400 dollars is crazy just to go and leave school they should make a sale to make money and us the money to buy gas

    September 14, 2010 at 5:29 pm |
  454. Rachel

I would tell the Board of Education that I have a right to an education no matter how far away from the school I live, and that there should be some sort of transportation provided by the school to get me there. And really, who has $400 to pay the school bus anyway???

    September 14, 2010 at 5:30 pm |
  455. Miriam

I think it's better for schools to save money by cutting buses, not art programs or teachers. If I was in that situation, I'd get up 10 minutes earlier and walk to school.

    September 14, 2010 at 5:36 pm |
  456. Rodolfo

I THINK THAT THEY PAY MUCH MONEY JUST TO RIDE THE BUS EVERYDAY IF IT IS FOR A YEAR I UNDERSTAND BUT IF IT IS EVERY MONTH Thats LOTS OF MONEY. WHAT IF YOU HAD LIKE 4 OR 5 KIDS THATS CRAZY. WHAT IF YOU DONT WORK THATS JUST TO MUCH MONEY JUST FOR EVERY 2 WEEKS IF THEY DID THATS LIKE TOO MUCH MONEY SO MAKE SURE YOU SOLVE THAT PROBLEM

    September 14, 2010 at 5:38 pm |
  457. Annette

I think it is not fair for parents or students to have to pay $400 to get to school. Many students need the bus transportation to get to school. Walking to school can be dangerous and what if the parents can"t drive? So what do you do?

    September 14, 2010 at 5:41 pm |
  458. Raini

The school system will see an immediate decline in school bus riders as soon as they charge the $400. Also, some families won't be able to pay this kind of money, and the school workers can't risk children getting to school late every day just because their parents are unable to get them there on time.

    September 14, 2010 at 5:49 pm |
  459. Courtney

In my opinion i think that paying 400-500$ just to ride a bus is not a very good idea . Even though the bus may be expensive but it's still not fair to parents who have lots of bills to pay and now have to worry about getting their kids to school . it's just unfair.

    September 14, 2010 at 5:52 pm |
  460. Anabelle

$400 is way too much money to pay for one student to ride the bus. If they absolutely have to charge, then they shouldn't charge so much!!

    September 14, 2010 at 5:59 pm |
  461. Audrey

Parents shouldn't pay for the bus. If they have to, not very many kids will ride the bus. That is a safety issue and the school will not earn enough money to pay for transportation.

    September 14, 2010 at 6:01 pm |
  462. Sophie

I think that it is unreasonable for schools to ask that much for bus service. Some children's parents might be at work or unable to drive and they rely on the bus pick them up and drop them off.

    September 14, 2010 at 6:09 pm |
  463. Sophie

I don't think it is right to ask $400 to ride the bus. Some people couldn't afford that and some people live to far to walk and can't catch ride. Plus, it is the law that you have to go to school and if you couldn't get there, it would be very unfair and unreasonable.

    September 14, 2010 at 6:14 pm |
  464. Ethan

If iI had to pay $400 a year just to the buss for school i would ride with a friend so we wouldent have to pay the fee and still be aware of global warming. Plus a lot of families cant afford that kind off money if they had two kids in school and it could hurt our economy
    !!

    September 14, 2010 at 6:25 pm |
  465. sara

I think it is wrong to charge people $400 just to ride a bus. it is not our fought that the economy is so bad. so the goverment has no right to charge people for something that minor.

    September 14, 2010 at 6:39 pm |
  466. Lindsey

These school's just need to be more organized by the state. Or at least have A LOT more fundraisers.

    September 14, 2010 at 6:43 pm |
  467. Moon

Riding the bus is supposed to be a way for kids whose parents either can't or won't drive them to school. Charging a bus fee would be wrong, much less charging $400! Many kids would begin walking to school, and that can be very dangerous with the number of drunk drivers, etc. You would have more accidents, and kids disappearing would become more common.

    September 14, 2010 at 6:50 pm |
  468. Ramiro

The economy is bad enough as it is, and some people are barely getting by. This is outrageous, things at my school are bad, and their getting worse every day.

Most outagous idea ever plotted by a school. If you need to charge charge about 10$ per week. 400$ is lots of money, especially for single moms or dads. All in all I think its a thumbs down to this idea.

i live with my mom and she works early in the mornings and my friends live miles away. i have 2 sisters and a brother that 2000 dollors to get to school we cant aford that and my one friend is the oldest of six

    September 14, 2010 at 7:50 pm |
  473. Anjana

I don't believe it's reasonable to pay $400- $500 just to ride the school bus. It's supposed to be for our own benefit, and if we have to pay, what's the point? Plus, some people have a working mom and dad. How are you supposed to get to school on time? Isn't that one of our 'golden rules'? So overall, I think that's not the best idea.

    September 14, 2010 at 7:58 pm |
  474. Court

I think its ridiculous that they want $400 for students to ride the bus. So students would be better off walking. Some parents cant afford 400 dollars-so suppose students stop coming to school then? It'll mess up the whole cycle. And on top of that, $400 IS WAY TOO MUCH MONEY FOR ONE PERSON TO RIDE THE BUS. That's like my mom light bill and she could hardly pay that. Students will be better off walking, biking, skateboarding, car-pooling, or catching the metro.

    September 14, 2010 at 7:59 pm |
  475. Anji

Not a very good idea. There would be a decline in students riding the bus, so there would be no point in a bus anyway...

    September 14, 2010 at 8:08 pm |
  476. Hannah

I only rode the bus in elementary school, but my sister rode it a lot longer. So, $400 is outragous! No parent should have to pay that!

    September 14, 2010 at 8:08 pm |
  477. Abby

Yes! It takes actual money and Labor for School buses to do their daily routes. There are drivers to be paid and Gas needed to fill the tank. Though 400 dollars is a little costly, how else would school buses function? Would they rather take money out of things that really matter, like the actual education being provided?

    September 14, 2010 at 8:21 pm |
  478. Aaron

Now im not saying I think it's fair or anything, but if they want to do it, then let them. For one thing, we all know that the U.S. economy is really bad so don't government can't pay for EVERYTHING. If they pay for school bus, then they might make the people their pay for something else, one way or another, we still are going to haave to pay. Also McDonalds has made america fat... Having a little workout every morning isn't that bad. Just because You don't take school bus doesn't mean you have to walk or drive car. You could always always ride a bike! I did that in middle school, it wasn't so bad. And who knows, you could even ride a CAMEL to school!

    September 14, 2010 at 8:43 pm |
  479. Olivia

I don't think it is at all fair for schools to charge people to PAY to ride the bus. Some people can't afford to pay that much money and that's why they ride the bus because driving them to school 1) Costs money for gas and 2) Hard to drive them when the parents have to go to work.

    September 14, 2010 at 8:51 pm |
  480. DAVID

i think that 400 dollars for buses is much too high, mainly because so many people rely on them. many parents have to be to work at a certain time, which means they CAN'T take their kids to school. And by making the parents pay to put their children on the bus, they arent going to have alot of kids go to that school next year.

    September 14, 2010 at 9:13 pm |
  481. Natalia

Most parents don't want to spend $400 on a bus ride to and from school for only 9 or 10 months. The real price should be around $200. I used to ride the bus to school and that is how much it was we had to pay........I would just car pool instead of spending $400.

    September 14, 2010 at 9:24 pm |
  482. hunter

i think it is a bad idea to charge a fee for kids to ride the bus to get to school.that is one of the only ways for kids to get to school. if u dont change that them u are going to loose the kids in ur school that get rides on the bus

    September 14, 2010 at 9:40 pm |
  483. Randi

That is a lot of money to ride a bus! If you live two miles you are better of finding a carpool, or riding a bike instead of finding a way to get $400-$500. Some kids parents can drive and if they can they should ask the kids who live near them to join them because its nice, saves the planet and so you don't have to pay that much money for a bus.

    September 14, 2010 at 9:50 pm |
  484. Carlos

I believe that if you really dont want to spend all that money on buses you can just ride with a friend or have your parents drive you.Or if anything walk and get some excersise while you get to school.
Dont get me wrong i dont believe that people should be paying out 400 to 500 dollars but if it cant be helped than there are other methods of getting to school.

    September 14, 2010 at 9:55 pm |
  485. Alycia

This isn't the best plan. I'm a twin with three other younger siblings who all attend school and my family is definitely not the richest in town. $2000 is not an easy thing to come by, especially for most families.

We all just need to think about these larger families that can't afford this. I would say to get a ride with your friends or if you're a younger student to ride with your parents. Two miles is an awefully long way to walk

    September 14, 2010 at 10:12 pm |
  486. Alexandra

Thats so unfair, how about the kids who dont have the funds to pay that? and if they live 20+ miles from school without parents to take them to school? if that happened i dont know. My dad takes me to school in the mornings and i carpool with my friends so thats not a problem. But for those kids that cant, its just very unfair! i say NO to this!!

    September 14, 2010 at 10:22 pm |
  487. steven

400$ per student is completely outrageous. Parents already spend hundreds of dollars on uniforms and school supplies. In my opinion if they want to make cuts, cut out the uniform. Both the schools and parents will be spending less money.

    September 14, 2010 at 10:25 pm |
  488. Aubrey

In this economy, no one can afford the $400 dollars just to ride the bus every day to and from school. Two miles is was too far to walk or even ride your bike.
If school starts at 7:30 for high schoolers, and it takes about 30 minutes to walk 2 miles then people have to wake up earlier. Taking the bus has always been a convenience that should be given to students at every public school regardless of the economic situation.

    September 14, 2010 at 10:36 pm |
  489. kirt

I think you save alot of money by getting a ride by your friend or just walking then spending $400 dollars on a bus ride for a whole year

    September 14, 2010 at 10:45 pm |
  490. Ana

I don't think they should be able to do this because i think it's the schools job to make sure that kids who go to that school have a way of trasportation and two miles isn't safe to walk.

    September 14, 2010 at 11:01 pm |
  491. tristen

i agree with just about everyone that has commented on this argument. there is no way people will pay the $400 to ride the school bus. noone has the money in this economic crisis, and if the students dont pay the only way they can get to school is by foot or parent drop off. i remember watching the video and all the students in that school are to young to walk two-miles everyday. this leaves parent drop off, and with all these students the schools streets get over crowded.

    September 14, 2010 at 11:03 pm |
  492. Marie

When you think about this, the first thing that comes to mind is "What in the world are they thinking?' Maybe the government is just trying to find the best ways to fund for the buses in the first place. I think it is wrong to make students pay because some don't have that kind of money and that could force them to walk, a more dangerous way to get to school.

    September 14, 2010 at 11:20 pm |
  493. Marlene

This is the most outragous idea ever plotted by the schools. this isn't fair to parents who have 2 or 3 children. Or the people who live 2 or 3 miles away from school. parents with 2 or 3 kids would have to pay $800 to $1200. this is definitely something that is an issue and has to be fixed.

    September 14, 2010 at 11:21 pm |
  494. min

I think if i should pay for the school bus, I'd rather ride a bike. Many parents should bear heavy burdens to pay for the bus.

    September 15, 2010 at 4:12 am |
  495. Kevon

$400 for a bus ride?!? First of all, buses aren't the greatest transportation. How are families with two or more children going to cough up $400+ to let their kids ride a bus? It would maybe be cheaper to just drive them the two miles! However, if parents start work early and end late how are kids going to get to and from school? If that school continues this "budget cut" more kids will be walking which will mean a greater chance of something happening to them. Even though i know the bus system needs the money, if they want to change for bus let it be 20 dallors per month per child. at lease that would be more reasonable for parents

    September 15, 2010 at 4:54 am |
  496. Misaki

I think 400$ for school buses is too much to pay because it is unfair, because students who walk to school don't have to pay for walking. Also it will concern the people who have many bills to pay and it would be unfair for the people who are often absent from school.

    September 15, 2010 at 7:11 am |
  497. Jackson

I think this is totally unfair for the children that go to that school have to pay that much. Maybe 400$ a year if that. If i was a parent and my kid went their i would move him to another school.

    September 15, 2010 at 7:53 am |
  498. Ian

WHy would they charge that much, it takes me 10 minutes to get to school, why would the make you pay that much????? Thats just unfair to those who live a long way away from the school.

    September 15, 2010 at 8:56 am |
  499. matt

I dont feel its right to charge that much to ride the bus when the school makes kids come to school and if they dont major consaquences are taken into effect. Not all parents have the money to pay for bus rides like that in turn kids are not able to go to school when their parents are at work not able to provide a ride for their children. In all not suck a good idea.

    September 15, 2010 at 9:26 am |
  500. brandon

well it's a lot. i really didn't know how much it cost to ride the bus.
400 bucks can get a lot and find better ways to get to school.

    September 15, 2010 at 9:26 am |
  501. alex

If parents are forced to pay 400 dollars for their kids to ride the bus i think parents should invest a bike for their child and screw the schools busses

    September 15, 2010 at 9:32 am |
  502. Jazmin

I think that having to pay $400 to $500 a year to ride the school bus is not a good idea because with how bad our economy is these days no one will be able to afford that especially if the parent has more than one child. This could also be a good plan help people who live only two miles away save money on transportation because, not being able to pay for bus service would make them start walking or carpooling every day and would save them money which they would normally be paying for gas. So in a way this could be a good idea or a bad idea it depends on what view you look from.

    September 15, 2010 at 9:36 am |
  503. Brody

The idea is good but the price is horrible, $75 per family would be much more affordable, and special discounts for low income families.

    September 15, 2010 at 9:43 am |
  504. Jessica

I don't think parents should have to pay $400 so that their children can ride the bus. Most people can't afford to put gas in their cars let alone pay for fuel for a bus. I would pay for gas to put in a car to go to school instead of paying $400 dollars to ride a bus.

    September 15, 2010 at 9:46 am |
  505. Christopher

Yah it is alot of money but i say whatever it takes to get everyone to shool safely and better their educations.

  506. Skyler

paying $400 just to ride a school bus is just a little bit outragous.
if you need to get home and you cant get a ride from anyone then you can ride the bus. some people live to far to walk. it wwouldnt be fair for kids to walk from school to their house. Buses are here for a reason so why cant we use them?

    September 15, 2010 at 10:30 am |
  507. Cameron

I belive that they shoudn't charge kids $400 just to ride to school. What about the kids that their parents dont have enough time to get their kids to school and they might have to walk 1 mile.

    September 15, 2010 at 10:30 am |
  508. marissa

I think that the 400$-500$ to ride the bus should not be a law, kids can have there parents drive them to school. Well what if the parents can't bring them to school? Well frineds may be able to drop them off and then after school the parents of the kid that got a ride to school can pick his/her kid up and the kids friend, so carpooling is another option.Lastly the kid can walk to school.Because who is going to have 400 $ every month for a bus,and what happens to the parents that have more than one child?

    September 15, 2010 at 10:34 am |
  509. jon

I think that that is just about the stupidest idea ever the bus is suppose to be a easier way to get to school and that just makes it way harder

    September 15, 2010 at 10:34 am |
  510. Lexi

If this happened to me I would fist see if my friends could carpool together, then if not i would just walk everyday with a friend. But tohave to pay 400 dollars is crazy not everybody can afford it, and if they live far away how are they going to get to school.

    September 15, 2010 at 10:35 am |
  511. Quinton

I think that they should not make parents pay $400 for a bus ride for there kids. Because it would make it hard for people to pay $400 if they dont have a good job or not even a job. Some kids cant walk because they live 10 mi from there school. It would be out rageouse if sombody had to pay $400 for 1 kid. Because people might have 2,3,4 or even 5 kids that is $2000 a famly. It is a bad idea.

    September 15, 2010 at 10:36 am |
  512. Monica

I think that having to pay to ride the school bus is STUPID!! Because not every one has $400-$500 laying around What's next are they going to cut school funding so that poor kids can't get free lunch or go to school! I think that they should have more kides ride the busses that don't have a lot of students riding.

    September 15, 2010 at 10:36 am |

I ride the bus to and from school and I think that it is rediculous to have to pay just to get a ride to school. If we had more fundraisers we could get more money for the school buses.

    September 15, 2010 at 10:37 am |
  515. raymond

i think it is wrong that they are trying to make people pay to catch a school bus that is wrong they should use tax dollars to cover the bus found so people would not have to walk and that is my oppion

    September 15, 2010 at 10:42 am |
  516. Sebastian

Paying $400 is not a good idea for kids to ride buses because i think buses should get there own money by some way.

i think that they shouldn't charge the parents or the kids because not everyone can afford it and if you live 2 miles out of town and not everyone can walk and not everyone can afford gas so it's basically like there telling you that you have to miss school if you can't get there

  518. DIANA

I think this is outragious. If people could afford to pay $400 to ride the bus then they wouldnt have their kids ride the bus they would pay for a driver.

  519. Shawn

I think it is outrageous that parents have to pay 400 dollars just for a short bus ride! But, what I don’t understand is, do you have to pay $400 for a year, or for a shorter time period?

    September 15, 2010 at 12:26 pm |
  520. tristan

i can understand why they would want or need the extra money but what if someone cant afford the money and dont have a vehicle or lives to far from school to walk and their only way to get to school is the bus how would they get to school

400! That's crazy to ride a bus to school!

    September 15, 2010 at 12:57 pm |
  522. Devon

I don't fully disagree on this because either way the parents will end up having to pay for it because they already do in the budget and taxes, but 400$ they demand instantly is a bit absurd, they should at least pay monthly with a low amount if they have to.

The idea of having to pay for transportation to school is not exactly a pleasant one, but we must consider the school's suffering. Because of the recent economic struggles and cuts to school budgets, I'm sure there aren't many choices left for school administration to make. Perhaps the school should meet with the parents and discuss a better solution or compromise, such as paying by month or week for school bus transportation instead of all at once.

  525. Joel

Well I don’t know that I would want to pay 400 dollars to ride the bus but it does make sense. Especially in larger schools the costs of running buses are very high. Even in my small school in southwest Nebraska it costs a lot of money to run all the buses and shuttles. It might stink but it does make sense. And 400 bucks for one year of transportation is not so bad especially when compared with the costs of driving to school on your own. Honestly if you made an option for reasonable weekly or monthly payments it really wouldn’t be quite as bad as it sounds. It would be very similar to buying gas every week for your car except that you don’t have to wash or maintain it at all. The only thing you have to do is be on time. Don’t get me wrong paying for riding the bus is not something that excites me but if we want to continue to provide reliable transportation to students during these economic times it might be the only option. In the situation stated I would probably walk. 2 miles isn’t that bad, I drive 10 every day there and back so I’d be okay with it.

That is way too much to pay for the buses. I think that our federal government should really make it a fedreal public service that way people wont have to pay as much.

I wouldnt pay that much just to ride the bus to school that is way to much money for someone just to get a ride on the bus i would rather walk to school or get a ride from parents or friends.

Paying that much money for something that is supposed to be free is dumb. They need to call Arne Duncan (the Secretary of Education) and get some money from him. They should of saved money anyway because of the job cuts they had.

400$ is to much to ride the school bus, and for people who only ride the bus half the time a get picked up after school isnt fair to them.
Plus parents already pay taxes for us to ride the school bus.so to pay 400$ to ride is horrible.

    September 15, 2010 at 2:48 pm |
  531. Christapher

I dont think we should pay $400 just to ride a bus. The schools should help pay for what they want us to pay. I understand that the schools are gathering money to save for new suppplies in class rooms, but schools should pitch in and help pay for what the bus companys need.

I think it's a bit extreme to pay $400 to ride a bus because some kids don't have that kind of money. It's kind of like pushing all of hard working money out the door and on the bus. Well what can I say I guess bus drivers need to get paid so they won't end up living with a relative.

My belives with the bus rides to school costing $400 is outrages for families with a lot of children or single parents. They cost of things keep going up and its hard for families really strugling with money.

Wow I could not even comprehend having to pay that much especially with todays economy. With all the parents being layed off some times it's a kidz only choice and for them to have to pay that much i don't believe half the familys could do that with one kid let alone 3 like my family

    September 15, 2010 at 3:18 pm |

When parents get the price to pay to have their kids ride the bus, they will freak out. Also whoever thought about raising the price to $400 I bet that the school bus buisness will go down the dark abyss.

we shouldnt have to pay 400$ if we would want to ride the bus you should be able to just ride it cause the school should do all that so you can just wory about school and things you need to do

I think that kids that have to pay $400 is way to much! Our economy is low and if most kids that ride the bus is people who don't have job and are lower class. Besides where are all those parents gonna find the money to do so? I think that kids should not have to pay because that is why we pay taxes!

    September 15, 2010 at 3:52 pm |

i personally think that that is the craziest thing i have ever heard. Might as well sell the buses all together.

    September 15, 2010 at 3:59 pm |

i think that making people pay a fee of 400 – 500 $ is alot of money to ride a bus that has alot of rules. also like there is also public tranportation like the public bus and stuff. so that is a cheaper way of getting a ride to and from school. but then again if students start rideing public tranpostation then the school bus will be no use and when its time to go on a feild trip the bus companys will be chargeing alot of money or soemthing cause they dont have anything, then more people will be out of a job cause the bus people wil be laying people off cause they arent needed that much anymore and stuff and then more people will be liveing on the street and then obama will have more problems to deal with cause there is more homeless people then people in the USA.

    September 15, 2010 at 4:02 pm |
  542. Genevieve

It's not right for people to have to pay $400 to ride a school bus! People all over the country are having economic problems this would make them even worse. In the speech President Obama made yesterday he talked about how it's important that we have a good education, and if we don't have busses how are we to get to school? The idea how could they even come up with it? It puts our education on the line and the future of our country! Some people live to far away and some people don't have cars how are they supposed to get to school?! The single parents out there can't pay that much if they are to still support there families. I believe that the government should give more money to the schools to solve this problem.

    September 15, 2010 at 4:03 pm |
  543. Brittnei

I also think its wrong to ride a school bus for 400$ because they probably cant afford it,plus there little kids they shouldnt be walking to school they could get kidnapped on the way there, or they could get ran over by a car (hit and run).

    September 15, 2010 at 4:17 pm |
  544. Aaron

$400?! I believe its the craziest idea yet. Parents should take the time out to drop off their children, or move somewhere closer to it. NO ONE should need to pay $400 to have a bus drive them.

    September 15, 2010 at 5:00 pm |
  545. Adira

The idea of having kids pay about a total estimate of $400.00 is ridiculous even for one child and since there is 3 of us living under the same roof that would be a total of 1,200 dollars at the least. I believe that there could be other ways to have money to keep the buses running like fundraising ,car washes, or just the simple beg of a donation,Parents would understand that the most! And another great idea for cutting down buses would have teachers take a group of kids(who live within 2 miles of the school) walk them home to make sure nothing happens to them along the way! So I can totally understand their reason for charging to ride the bus but instead of doing that there are a lot more simple solutions instead of that so thumbs down to this idea

    -Adira

400$ for a bus faire is crazy! Right now our american economy is horrible and this district makes it worst. I am sure some children because of that cost have to drive or walk to school, but the problem is many parents have to go to work and can not take time to take there children to school leaving children to carpool or get up very early and walk to school. Getting up earlier means less sleep which, can be bad for students, when students don't get good sleep most do not pay attention during school and that leads to unnecessary bad grades.

  547. hunter

i think that is a crazy price just to ride a bus. i think it should be like $150 or lower. i know that gas prices at expensive but the last thing people on the school board is buses. i mean almost every one rides a bus. and the ones who cann't pay or drive and or too far to walk. what are they going to do don't go to school or what. then they won't have an education or when older a job. i mean that is just crazy to cut school bus fund and also chare money.

    September 15, 2010 at 6:19 pm |
  548. Emily

I fully understand why the school district raised the price but, I personally don't understand why so much. Maybe instead of so much break it up it is 400$ but, it must be paid by this time. Let's say the family doesn't pay for it by that day the child will get turned off from the bus from the day the money was due until $400 has been payed. Maybe, instead of having to pay $400 have people pay half but throughout the school year have healthy snacks that children can purchase and eat carefully on the bus which the funds will go towards the buses and school needs.

    September 15, 2010 at 6:19 pm |
  549. Ashley

i think that is wrong and no one would ride the bus and the bus company would go out of bussiness.

    September 15, 2010 at 6:53 pm |
  550. Talia

I think $400 is way to much for a five minute ride to school. If I had to pay that much I would either carpool or ride my bike to school. I understand why the school board did that, I mean the economy is bad and things need to change but, make the cut little by little. For example they could make you pay $2-4 every time you ride the bus and in the end it would equal 400 or maybe a little less.

    September 15, 2010 at 7:44 pm |
  551. Moaaz

they should cut the cost cause people/parent have there bills to pay. the should do it like $10 a month so people can afford the trip or the GOVERMENT should help them pay for the buses.

    September 15, 2010 at 8:06 pm |
  552. robert

i thank you should not have to pay to ride the bus .so what if they live only a few blocks away and you should not have to pay becuse riding the bus is a prlig

  553. Efrain

I can write a million words just to show how much I disagree with this idea but I'll write just a couple =].
-Four hundred dollars is not just a high price to ride the bus, but this is also an UNACCEPTABLE price. Imagine about all those people that are struggling to make a living and at the same time they're trying to send their kids off to school to have a good education to be professional adults in their future(s). There is no reason to have such a high price to have students or parents pay $400. I understand that this isn't that much for a whole year, or maybe it isn't. But if it is then they should lower down the price to about $200 or $250. Because that is an outrageous amount of money just to send your child off to school on a bus. My parents take me to school, and I was thinking of changing my transportation to a public bus, school bus or the Metro. But if the school bus is going to be that much money then I will absolutely scratch that option off of my list.
-To conclude, I think that $400 just to ride the school bus is not an appealing price to students/parents because there might be people out there that are struggling to make a living to have their children have a good education.

    September 15, 2010 at 8:40 pm |
  554. Allissa

I think the amount of money they are asking parents to pay is way too much. With the economy the way it is many parents can't even think about paying that much. The schools could ask for a optional donation for parents to pay to help with the cost of bus service.

  555. Alexis

What are they thinking? Just because they don’t have any money, doesn’t mean they can force people to pay hundreds of dollars. That’s a ridiculous way to solve such a problem. Nobody would be crazy enough to give up that much money, especially when they work hard to make it. Maybe they should pay an amount of money that is less outrageous. Plus, people ride the bus to get to school, and they’re only going to school to earn an education but not to become broke. My parents would either home school me, have me ride a bike, walk, carpool, or drive me. There are plenty of options to choose from. It’s not just pay or stay home. This idea is especially bad with our economy. Most parents work and don’t have enough time to take their children to and from school. This leaves riding your bicycle, walking, and carpooling. In order to be in a carpool, you would have to wake up early. Some kids need a certain amount of sleep, and if they don’t get enough sleep, then they aren’t going to participate as much in class. This may not be a good option for them. Also, if people are walking to school, it could be a safety issue. For one, there could be a lot of traffic and an accident could occur. Another thing that could happen is a kidnapping. This could happen if they were alone, in an unlit or wooded area, or in a dangerous neighborhood. In such a tough economy, this does not seem to be the best solution. This may cause more problems to arise.

well i think that you shouldn't have to be paying a lot of money just to get your kid to go to school and learn i know that they cant pay for it but they should do something for the parents should pay ten dollars are $20 just to help but 400 is way to much

    September 15, 2010 at 9:34 pm |
  557. Staleir

I don't think that's very fair. Most parents can't take their kids to and from school 'cause of their work. My friend has two younger siblings in 6th grade and she rides the bus too. That's $1,200 too much for parents to spend. Some kids only take the bus in the morning or afternooon. Do they still have to pay $400/year?

    September 15, 2010 at 10:10 pm |
  558. Jon

The school could do fundraisers to pay the bus and I would ride my bike to school because how else am I suppose to get to school if my parents had to go to work?

    September 15, 2010 at 10:41 pm |
  559. Yamcha

I don't think we should be paying $400 to ride a school bus. Maybe we should pay at least $2 or more. But seriously, at my school...car pick-up\drop off has gone crazy!! And I noticed people (students) are walking or riding bikes more often. And for kids like me, whoes house is far away.....is not something to enjoy!! I know students are also wearing more helments for saftey, but that may not save their life with all of this car problem at school. At least make us pay $1.50 or a dollar more!!

    September 15, 2010 at 10:55 pm |

By law, children are required to attend school, we shouldn't have to pay to do something we are required by law to do.
Except taxes, theres not escaping those.

    September 15, 2010 at 11:31 pm |
  561. Itzel

I think it is crazy how they expect parents to pay that insane amount of money. Parents today are even struggling to keep there jobs and they need that money they earn for there necessities like food and paying the mortgage or rent. If they are going to need pay 400$ – 500$ for there child to ride the bus that is another bill that they are going to be worrying about because I doubt any parent wants there child to walk 2 miles to school.

The elementry school recently told my little brother that we had to pay for him to ride the beus because we are just a bit less then a mile and a half. Do they really expect elementry school students to walk by them selfs a mile and a half to get to school? Becides the fact that he would be crossing a busy street with no stop sign, there are no side walks for most of the walk.

I wouldn't be very happy at all if i had to pay 400 dollars for a bus ride. that bus had better fly and serve peanuts.

How can they expect us to walk two miles to school and still be aware and awake in the morning? I'd be really worn down. What about the students who have asthma? How would that affect their breathing duing the school day? Now instead of looking at a financial problem, we have a health problem! $400.00 is to much to ask. It leads to many problems involving many people.

Some people go to public school because they can't afford all the payment to go to a private school. Also, some parents can't drive there kids to school because they have to work. Now, If your making them pay $400 to ride a bus, then the parents have to give all the money their making for their kids to ride the bus.

    September 16, 2010 at 6:02 pm |

$400 to ride the bus is not a good way to earn money. they should just cut down on buying paper all the time for homework and use dry-erase boards instead.

  570. Katherine

Once, when my bus got assigned seats, one neighborhood formed a carpool. I think this would be a very good way for kids to get to school safely and save the schools money at the same time.

    September 16, 2010 at 6:11 pm |
  571. Ashley

I say that it is too much money. If you normally ride the bus,and all of a sudden, the prices go up, and the reason you ride the bus is because your mom is always busy, things might get a little clunky.I say that unless the bus has like,a soft carpet on the ground,a bathroom cleaned out everyday, a TV on the seat right in front of you, pillows and blankets to sleep with, and it's like, really fancy in there, then, yeah, it would be expensive.BUT, raising the price for riding the bus is total nonsense.People,if the bus price is too high, this will be advise.Go walk, ride a bike, carpool, or whatever, JUST DON'T TAKE THE BUS!!!!

    September 16, 2010 at 6:17 pm |
  572. Delaney

Thats not right. i mean i wouldnt mind riding with my parents but my class couldnt believe all the traffic jams! we agree they should stop charging people and go back to normal bus schedules and cut different things. because school buses are basically how we get to school and without them some of us probably couldn't come to school!

why would people pay to go to school id rather walk, get a ride, or bike to school whats the point of paying for the bus when you could go by yourself or get a ride its just not right.

  574. Halo

When you walk, bike, or skate to school you save money. You're also kepping the air clean and safe for our enviroment. You're keeping your self strong and healthy by moving and not sitting.

  575. Alexis

Seriously, $400-500 just for a bus ride to school? I think it's really unfair for this school to even think about making parent's pay for their children to go to school. In this economy, i don't think that these parents are willing to pay that much, i mean, they might as well just ride to school with their friends or car pool. A high school offers bus passes to the students who live far from the school, it's public transportation and wont cost you a whole lot. Plus the traffic problem can get annoying after a while. The school that my younger sibling goes to has traffic backed up, it's annoying. With kids crossing the street and teens tailgating you, can cause major problems. But now if everyone car pooled, or walked home, especially if you live two blocks away, we wouldn't have so much traffic and we wouldn't need the school buses costing us $400.

I believe that districts can run out on money, and I also believe that the schools can request money from parents.
But I do not agree with the idea of paying 400 dollars just on school busses. If this price was moderate, all the students and parents will be able to understand, but 400 dollars – I think – is a little too much. Most of the papers schools buy become wasted after use, so I think schools can save money instead on using these papers.

If our school started charging to ride the bus, I’m pretty sure more students would be driving and carpooling instead of taking the bus. I already drive to school which is very expensive but if I were riding the bus again, I know I wouldn’t be if they started charging us to ride...$400 is a bit outrageous... I don’t know many people who would want to pay that much to ride the bus.

My name is kayla and if you get to read this i think a 400dollr bus ride is way to much. I get dropped off in the morning because my mom passes the school on her way in to work but i still take it home and $400 dolors a lot! My bus is old and needs a new driver and she is old and too old to be driving a bus. i wouldn't want to pay that much money for a bus ride when i live right around the corner. i or my family can't afford to pay that much money for a bus. neather can the community these days. If people are poor and can't afford that and live far away from the school and have no car than how else are they going to get to the school? I think $400 is way too much!

I do not think they should have to pay $400 to ride the bus. Most families don’t have that kind of money due to the economy. Since most kids cannot pay that, they will be walking and biking to school even more. Walking and biking will just increase the number of accidents. If the school really needs more money they should just cut back on paper use, and other ideas in order to save them money.

I ride the bus to school everyday. I have a sibling and he rides the bus with me too. My parents couldn't afford to pay for one kid to ride the bus for the year, let alone two. We would probably end up carpooling with neighbors to help save money.

    September 17, 2010 at 8:17 pm |
  590. Naomi

I say that $400-500, ofcourse, is too much money. Every student in America is supposed to go to school. How would they do that if they have to pay so much money? Some people might choose to walk, but who would want to walk to school everyday? And then your second choice would be getting a parent to drive you to school, but some kids have parents who both work and have no time to drive you. And you cant just come in to work late everyday because of your kids.

    September 17, 2010 at 8:25 pm |
  591. Naomi

I think its not fair. no one has the money, or wants to pay the money, that they are telling them in Massachusetts to. I dont live there, but Im guessing how those people feel. Forced to go to school, then expected to pay 400 dollars if they live 2 miles away. No one wants to walk either. And not everyone has parents that can take them to school because they work. And then you cant rely on friends because they might not live near you, or they might not have any room.

    September 17, 2010 at 8:39 pm |
  592. Jenna

My mom takes me to school, but alot of my friends ride the bus.I think it's ridiculous to pay $400 to ride the bus.I know it will hurt parents financially and will hurt kids eduacationally. Why can't we have a fundraiser or something, instead of taking more money from our parents.

    September 17, 2010 at 9:01 pm |
  593. Dacoda

i think this is rediculous because most of the people i know ride the bus and in my opinion i wouldnt pay 4 to $500 to ride the bus because thats just asking for my parents pay checks.

Kids or Parents should not have to pay to ride the bus, because i thought a bus is a free way to get to school... and some people cant afford $400.

    September 18, 2010 at 9:04 am |
  595. Michael

That is just ridiculous. If I were forced to pay $400 just to ride the bus, I would strike.

    September 18, 2010 at 9:54 am |
  596. Taleisha

I think it is really unbelievable that it has to be that high of a range. But that doesn't mean that any of the participants that are involved in the bus activity will actually pay. I would rather just take a ride from another friend.

    September 18, 2010 at 10:47 pm |
  597. tasha

This is ridiculous. Yes the school needs money, but they should not make the parents pay a public school bus to take there child to school. Everyone would start to car pool.

    September 19, 2010 at 1:16 pm |
  598. Grace

This is a horrible thing to do! Although if its how the school has to get its money what can you do about it? I do not expect the kids to ride the bus, I think a lot more of the parents will end up taking their kids to school. :(

    September 19, 2010 at 5:07 pm |
  599. Jenna

That's a little too much, I could see if it was like 5-10$ but 400$!!!! No way, I have two older sisters that also ride the bus so my mom would have to pay like 1500$ just to ride the school bus, it's through the school disterect so they should have like a fundrasier or something. That's too far fetch.

$400to ride a bus! Thats sad thats real sad

    September 19, 2010 at 9:39 pm |
  601. Amanda

I think this is a good idea to a certain extent...... if the children have a safe route to take, then yes it is a good idea. But if there is a large freeway, or crowded intersection in the way, then it is not a good idea. But if you live within two miles from the school, get a bunch a bunch of kids together, find a safe route if there is one, and ride bikes. I did it when i was in elementary school, and it was a great social time.

    September 20, 2010 at 8:58 am |
  602. Amanda

I can't walk to school! and my parents cant take me to school since they have work! I live 20 miles away from my school! I cant be charged 400 dollars for my school bus.

    September 20, 2010 at 8:58 am |
  603. Amanda

This is outragous. I live 10 miles away from school and the bus is my tranpertation! How else can i get to school. I think its fine for private schools but not public. $400 is alot for people who have a hard life

    September 20, 2010 at 8:58 am |

This is out this world why would anybody want to pay $400 its just messed up people need to relaxe people are going to start not riding the buses and walk instead.

    September 20, 2010 at 12:43 pm |
  608. David

There is no "right" to an education as some of you have posted here so a "ride" to school does not need to be gauranteed based on that belief since the premise is wrong. What's next?...a "right" to free housing? However, the government DOES REQUIRE us to attend school and since they felt the need to force us into a government education, it is only "right" that they provide the transportation as well.

How about cutting unnecessary spending in the budget to help with transportation costs? How about cutting $400 from city and county workers annual salaries? How about cutting $400 from teacher's union coffers and/or pensions? Nah... just easier to demand it from the taxpayer I guess.

    September 20, 2010 at 12:45 pm |
  609. David

THen when we all start driving our kids to school, they can start complaing about the negative effect on the environment because there will still be busses running but now with more cars!!! UGH...when does the lunacy end? CUT SPENDING AND STOP ASKING ME FOR MORE MONEY!!!!

    September 20, 2010 at 12:49 pm |
  610. ashley

this is a lot of money jus for a 15 to 20 min ride to school.... what if some familes can aford it ? and with the economy its just to much....

    September 20, 2010 at 3:50 pm |

I think it is outrageous for $400 to ride a school bus wow I would sew the school.

  614. courtney

you know pay that much is way to much they are probley rich so it is like a doller or two to them but what about the rest of us that is way to much. but i live right acrost the street from my school so ya :D :)

    September 20, 2010 at 4:20 pm |
  615. wiliam

my school free so i the bus should free

    September 20, 2010 at 5:06 pm |
  616. Michelle

well in the first place paying 400 dollars to ride a bus to school that is SO dumb! and you HAVE to live with in a 2 mile radius of the school I would rather ride a shopping cart to school. and second 400 dollars wow i can get 50 Nintendo D.S games with that at least 50 dollars that would be very nice to see. and they can not afford that save up some money then at the end of the school year give that to the school every little bit of money counts

    September 20, 2010 at 5:18 pm |
  617. Lily

I think $400 to ride the school bus is just ANOTHER excuse for the schools to get money. Parents get taxes, groceries,go shopping with their kids, go have fun with their kids and spend lots of money on our lives and for a good education! Parents have to go to work in mornings usually a bus comes to pick us up! Now most kids walk because of the large fee to JUST take a 10 minute swing to school!

    September 20, 2010 at 6:51 pm |
  618. Caroline

Personally, if they would al the least explain to us why they want to make it $400 to ride the bus then, we might undersdstand. Although, making it $400 to ride the bus is making it tough on many families. This could cause many kids to not even go to school for that very reason.

    September 20, 2010 at 8:50 pm |
  619. jaime

i think riding the bus should be free couse we students are the future and if we can't get to school students cant make the future

    September 20, 2010 at 11:11 pm |
  620. JERVIN

I say that you should ride a bike, scooter, skateboard, rollerblads,or just walk.we shouldn't have to pay 400 dollars for one bus ride . and then 400 dollars back, that's OUTRAGEOUS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

i think that you shouldn`t pay 400 because then if the parent`s can`t take them to school they might go broke. and they could lose there house or lose there job.

  625. mallory

i think it is wrong to make people pay for a bus ride to school. we pay out taxes for school so give us a dang ride to school! if u live close then yeah walk but if not we should be able to get a ride to school. 400 per kid is way to much. kids need education they should not have to pay for it with this hole bus thing.

    September 21, 2010 at 12:05 pm |
  626. abbigail

i think that paying dollors for a bus ride is outrageouse it isnt a very good idea because the reason people ride the bus is because the parents of that student cant afford paying fo rthe gas thierselves and because they dont have time to bring their child to school ask the people to think about it again

    September 21, 2010 at 12:06 pm |
  627. Christopher

I think that the bus ride shouldn't be $400 for the students the bus to school & the way home to. It should be free to ride the school bus

    September 21, 2010 at 12:08 pm |
  628. Rachael and Rylyn

We think it is outregous and expensive to pay $400 dollars to ride a bus! I I think they should do fundraizers to raise money for the bus expenses. Parents shouldnt have to pay if they are two miles away from the school! This is ridiculous!!!!!!!!!!(:

    September 21, 2010 at 12:12 pm |
  629. Hannah

I think that it's INSANE that parents would have to pay $400 just for a ride to school!! I think that we shouldn't have to pay for a ride because my parents are already paying for my education. Why should we pay the bus drivers gas if it doesn't belong to us???? Plus 2 miles is a long ways to walk to school.

    September 21, 2010 at 12:13 pm |
  630. Brandon

I think it is stupid to pay $400 to ride a school bus. Its better to walk anyway.

    September 21, 2010 at 12:19 pm |
  631. Theo

I think its pretty crazy that a school is making families pay to take their children to school. I always drive myself to school because i live in town, but if i didn't I would not be paying $400 to ride the bus all year. I think the school just needs to find another way to get and maintain their money.

    September 21, 2010 at 12:36 pm |
  632. Devin

Asking parents to pay for school bus transportation is outrageous! I live in a rural community where the school bus is vital to most kids making it to school at all, with the economy the way it is, nobody can afford to drive anywhere from 10 to 40 plus miles to school every day. Now living two miles from school, personally i do not think that it is that bad to ride a bike to school or walk, but I still think that kids should have the option to ride the bus if the need arises.

    September 21, 2010 at 12:39 pm |
  633. Tonya

I really don't think parents should have to pay $400 per kid so they can have a ride to school. It would almost be cheaper to carpool & take turns driving rather then riding the bus.

    September 21, 2010 at 12:41 pm |
  634. Tymber

I think that the schools should not make parents pay to let their kids ride the bus to school. Some parents can't afford to pay that much money to let their kids on the bus and maybe they can't afford to drive them either, you wouldnt want kids to stop going to school because their parents can't afford to get them there so schools should provide their way.

    September 21, 2010 at 12:44 pm |
  635. Sami

If I had to face this problem, I would probably walk or have a parent take me, unless they had to go out of their way to get me to school. It would be cheaper than paying the $400-$500 to get there, and you could get some good excercise in doing so.

    September 21, 2010 at 1:27 pm |
  636. Dani

It is not fair that students do not all have the same privileges of school transportation, but you have to make the best of the situation and it is the parents’ responsibly to get their kids to school, whether they drive them themselves or ride share.

    September 21, 2010 at 1:27 pm |
  637. DesiRae

I think that it is ridiculous that the parents would have to pay $400 for their child or children to ride a bus from home to school and then from school back home for five days a week for the whole school year.

    September 21, 2010 at 1:28 pm |
  638. Jacklyn

I ride a bus 35 miles down a all gravel road to save gas im my pickup. my parent dont have the money to pay 400 dollars a month for me to ride the bus and waste gas when i have to drive back to town for work and them getting ready to sent me to collage .

    September 21, 2010 at 1:33 pm |
  639. riley

i think thats its a stupid idea to make a 5 min bus ride $400 . because the bus drivers might think its a good idea because the more money the school gets the more money will be o their pay checks but i think that the more a 5 min bus ride coast the less people are actuallly going to ride the bus and then the bus drivers wont get any money and then they will get fired

    September 21, 2010 at 1:33 pm |
  640. Chelsea

I ride the school bus every day. The reason i do is because it makes it easier on my family and myself. I think that charging someone to ride the bus is absurd because the original purpose, in my beliefs, is that taking the bus saves the family time, money, and it also ensures them that their children have a safe ride to school. Yes those are things that you could charge but there are other ways to make money for the school. Charging for these things looks like schools are trying to take advantage of peoples' busy lifestyles.

    September 21, 2010 at 1:33 pm |
  641. Brekyn

I think its not the smartest idea because we are going through a rough time right now in our country. And alot of people don't have the money. Alot of people are losing their jobs and they can't aford it.

    September 21, 2010 at 1:36 pm |
  642. Raven

i think that it is a bad idea to pay 400$ for a ride to school. it is unfair to ask this of familys because they may not have the means of getting to school, and they cant be expected to pay that much for a bus ride. Plus, when you consider the shape the economy is in, its a hard thing to even consider!

    September 21, 2010 at 1:38 pm |

Well if u have to pay $400 dollars its just so stupid to do that cause if u want to go to school then just walk, its great exercise if ur that far away but staying home is horibe bu tif u need/want to go to school then walk walking is great

    September 21, 2010 at 1:59 pm |
  645. Paige

Well, when you think about it that's probably less then how much we're paying now (through taxes) for the bus rides. But I do think that asking for $400 right then and there is ridiculous. Families with four kids, like mine, would have to pay $1, 600 a year.

    September 21, 2010 at 2:19 pm |
  646. Bonny

I take the bus, get a ride with a friend, or my mom takes me. So I think that they shouldn't make families pay $400 because some people make their kids ride the bus because they don't have any money for gas. So I don't think we should make it harder for families on the amount they spend.

    September 21, 2010 at 2:32 pm |
  647. madi

i think it is insane that they want us to pay so much to ride the bus. HELLO?! we just got out of a recession people!!

    September 21, 2010 at 4:48 pm |
  648. Olivia

Why should families have to pay to have their children ride a bus? Like my family, we are having financial difficulties, so we couldn't afford it.

    September 21, 2010 at 5:03 pm |
  649. Lauren

Although they shouldn't have the parents pay for the bus in the first place, why can't a mom or dad just drive or walk their kid to school. I did it for years because there was no bus service. If the parents have enough time to sit down and have a cup of coffee, why can't they take 5 min to bring their kid to school. If you want to be lazy, don't complain!

    September 21, 2010 at 6:53 pm |
  650. Kenzie

Thats just crazy. Like president obama said in his speech, school is really important, if the bus is the only way some kids can get to school, then what are they going to do if they cannot afford it?

    September 21, 2010 at 7:25 pm |
  651. Sophie

Many people are saying that it will be good for the enviorment but it wont because if there was no bus the parents would half to wait in line of alot of cars ,and sit there poluting our enviroment but if we just have the bus then it is quick easy and everything can be on time. The costs though are very unresonable and some schools should just start fundrasisers. Or alot of parents maybe start just home schooling kids with all the hassel if they are that serious with this problem.

    September 21, 2010 at 7:28 pm |
  652. Shelby

That price is outrageous. I would rather walk the two miles, get a ride from parents, or just carpool.

    September 21, 2010 at 8:14 pm |
  653. kenneth

i don't ride the buss but if i did i wouldn't want my parents to pay outrageously

    walk to school people!!!

    September 22, 2010 at 9:54 am |
  655. Teresa Anna

I think families already pay enough in taxes let alone, paying for the buses to pick up the students. I kinda believe that schools should be able to handle it on their own... or they don't really need to be opened, cause that would be like them not having enough teachers to teach the school, & it's just redicious.

    September 22, 2010 at 11:59 am |
  656. Ryan

It is just the government trying to suck our parents dry of all the money they can get without causing us to go bankrupt because they would get in trouble and the government never does wrong.

    September 22, 2010 at 12:48 pm |
  657. Woof

I woof, do not agree that a child should be forced to pay to ride the school how would kids with not a lot of money get to school if they didn't have the option to walk or get a ride.

    Signed, Woof

i would not ride the bus to school if my comunity. i would not even go to a public school i would go to home schooling

    September 22, 2010 at 2:46 pm |
  659. clarisse

in my opionin if they do this they should not do it within 2 miles but the further out because it is not as far to walk 2 miles or less it not as bad as it might be for other for some others that live further away. also if you do this it would not be as green because more people will have to drive their cars and burn oil

    September 22, 2010 at 4:27 pm |
  660. Nico

This is crazy!! Who would pay that much for a short bus ride to school? It is a much better idea to walk, bike, skate, etc. instead of paying that much. Also, this is just making the economy even worse, making families pay that much for their kid to ride a bus is nonsense.

    September 22, 2010 at 4:54 pm |
  661. Joshua

I think I speck for all parents that $400 to ride the bus is wrong to do if you need $ so bad you could do a bake sale or somthing.

    September 22, 2010 at 5:29 pm |
  662. Wesley

I think that is just wrong. If my parents had top pay 400$ just to ride the bus they would find me a new school. It is like making someone pay to open a door. You don't think about it you just ride. Another way to think about it is if you are getting bullied on the bus all of a sudden you are paying 400$ to get bullied

    September 22, 2010 at 6:09 pm |
  663. meghan

if you pay taxes you are already doing the school something why be bullied for another 400 bucks no wonder that america is in the recession:(

    September 22, 2010 at 7:00 pm |
  664. Maria

No I do not agree. I think if parents have to pay for the transportation it should not be $400 per person. I think they should pay something more reasonably, like $25 $75 the max.

    September 22, 2010 at 7:01 pm |
  665. madison

i think it is not fair because what if a kid doesnt have the money and their parents dont have the money? they could walk but what happens when it turns to winter time? i think they should stop that because thats not fair to poor kids who dont have the money. if they continue this what will happen if no one rides the bus what will they do? probley fire the bus drivers. then what wil the old bus drivers do?i could keep going on but if i do it will just get worst. so i say stop charging $400 for a bus ride.

    September 22, 2010 at 7:44 pm |
  666. Abby

What? $400? Just to ride the bus? If I rode the bus and then my district made that rule, my mom and dad would be furious. The they would ride me to school instead, since that would be less expensive.

    September 23, 2010 at 9:50 am |
  667. alicia

why would parents pay when they can just ride with friends or parents or walk i know my parents wouldnt pay for that thats way to expensive

    September 23, 2010 at 11:43 am |
  668. gabbyy

I think that if we do have to pay for the bus it should be 400 dollars. It is not fair because some people can not afford it and they may have more than one kid they would have to pay double. Like I was saying if we do have to pay it should not be 400 dollars it should be like 20 dollars. That is what I think about paying 400 dollars.

    September 23, 2010 at 11:46 am |
  669. Hannnah

I think if they were going to make people pay it shouldn't be that much money because many family's are having trouble with money just as much as the bus system.

    September 23, 2010 at 11:47 am |
  670. alfred

I think it is to much to pay just for a school bus and especially just to go to school i think it is okay if you pay to ride the school bus but just pay like one hundred to one hundred and twenty dollars because you would save a lot of money and u won struggle as much.

    September 23, 2010 at 11:48 am |
  671. Sara

i dont think paying $400 dollars to ride the bus is a good price.the economy is bad and alot of people will not be able to pay for it.

    September 23, 2010 at 11:48 am |
  672. victoriua

I think that schools should and sould not charge for buss transportation. I think they should charge because it will give more money to the schools for more acidemic things such as computers and desks. I think it is a bad idea because of this economy and how people are struggling for money and jobs.

    September 23, 2010 at 11:49 am |
  673. kyle

I dont want to pay I might have to walk 2 miles

    September 23, 2010 at 11:51 am |
  674. Lindseyy

I don’t think it’s a good idea to have parents pay for their children to ride the bus. Some people are fighting to pay bills or even buying school supplies and if there paying for transportation they might not be able to get the children to school.

    September 23, 2010 at 11:52 am |
  675. Lexi

I think that if they make us pay $500 to ride the bus is simply outragous because my school starts at 7:23 and some parents can't take their kids to school. I also think it's ok because it could stop pullotion because we could all carpool.

    September 23, 2010 at 11:52 am |
  676. Gertrude

I don't think that paying to ride the school bus is a good idea.
I think its not fair to the parents that dont have alot of money. Especially, if the parent has to work in the morning cant get their kids to school.

Start walking. The $400-$500 is ridiculous because the parents might be struggling to pay for taxes or they have to pay for fees. Also if you have two children then it will be $800-$1,000!

    September 23, 2010 at 11:56 am |
  678. Fluffy

No body should have to pay for their children to ride the bus. Some people cant take their children to school, some kids live too far from the school to walk or ride bikes.Kids deserve a free education so they should get a free ride to school.

    September 23, 2010 at 11:56 am |
  679. Melanie

I guess it's not that bad for me since I have the option for my parents to drive me, but for those that have no other way to get to school, $400-$500 is simply too much. I wouldn't pay it.

    September 23, 2010 at 12:54 pm |
  680. Salena

Busses are the most common way to get to school. I don't think that they should charge any money, especially $400. Many people cannot afford that price to get their kids to school. On the other hand, some would rather walk to school instead of riding the bus and they would get some exercise getting to school.

    September 23, 2010 at 12:55 pm |
  681. Neema

I think that its not right to charge parents for their kids to ride the bus. I mean what if they can't afford it? If I were them I wouldn't Charge them at all. I think its really not needed to charge parents for their kids to ride the bus.

    September 23, 2010 at 12:56 pm |
  682. Caitlin

I think that schools shouldn't make parents pay $400 just to ride the school bus. It's ridiculous that they would make you pay for $400 per kid. If someone had siblings, that would be outrageous. A lot of people also don't have jobs and are short on money with the economy.

    September 23, 2010 at 12:57 pm |
  683. Ulanie

I don't think that they should charge for the bus because a lot of people ride the bus and a lot of people are having trouble with money and they would rather spend their money on better things that paying their child to ride the bus.

    September 23, 2010 at 12:58 pm |
  684. Hanna

I really don't know why someone would charge students to get a ride home? What if you live 1/2 miles away and don't have a ride home... would you like to walk all that way!? I know that I wouldn't ... it's just outrageous!!!

    September 23, 2010 at 12:58 pm |
  685. Cristobil

I think you shouldn't have to pay for the bus because there will be less kids on the bus and some people can't afford it

    September 23, 2010 at 12:59 pm |
  686. Julia

I know that my family couldn't pay $400 each for me and my sister to ride the school bus so I don't think it's fair to charge so much money for students who ride the school bus.

    September 23, 2010 at 1:02 pm |
  687. Kaleb

I think this is a bad idea because some families cant afford paying for a year for their kid to ride the bus. $400 is alot of money for one kid to ride the bus.

I also think think this is a good idea because it would save the school money instead of paying for all the kid's bus fare.

    September 23, 2010 at 1:58 pm |
  688. BAILY

I think it is wrong to make parent or people pay for taking the bus because of the bad economy we are in

    September 23, 2010 at 1:59 pm |
  689. Colton

I just think this is a horrible idea cause mybe there are some kids out there whom their parents cant afford this and if they're going to put a price for this it shouldn't cost this much as $400 dollars.

    September 23, 2010 at 2:01 pm |
  690. Cadey

I feel that if you pay $400 to ride the bus is just plain obnoxious. If Kids have no way to get to school other than the bus, They might not even get to school because of the economy.

    September 23, 2010 at 2:03 pm |
  691. ASHTON

I think it is crazy to have to pay 400-500 dollars just to ride the bus. I mean it has been free for all these years. Why change it now?

    September 23, 2010 at 2:04 pm |
  692. Leandra

I think that its not fair for our parents to have to pay such a price just for riding the bus and I know that schools are struggling with the economy but families are too.

    September 23, 2010 at 2:04 pm |
  693. Chady

This is not the way to make an education better because some familys will not be able to afford to enrol there kids in school if they cant work.

    September 23, 2010 at 2:06 pm |
  694. skye

$400 TO RIDE THE SCHOOL BUS!!!!!!! thats outrages. I dont ride the bus but i kno friends and families that cant afford that.

    September 23, 2010 at 2:11 pm |
  695. chase

i think you should not have to pay to ride i think your school fees cover that in van wert ohio you do not pay to ride the bus

    September 23, 2010 at 4:27 pm |
  696. Destiny

that is not right why should the parents pay for the bus when they already have bills and taxes. Kids ride the bus becase it cuts down the time for their parents to get to work.

    September 23, 2010 at 4:48 pm |
  697. Anonymous

thats just outragues realy 400 dollars to ride a school bus

    September 23, 2010 at 5:04 pm |
  698. Nathaniel

That is the most Outraogous thing ever 400$ Wow thats all I can say!

    September 23, 2010 at 5:12 pm |
  699. allison

absolutly not our communities wages are already as high as the can posibly be.on the other hand bus drivers would be fortunate

    September 23, 2010 at 5:16 pm |
  700. Lauren

i think it is ridiculous that we would have to pay for transportaton!!!!! our parents already have to pay taxes for the school. and besides we already have a very bad economy right now!

    September 23, 2010 at 6:23 pm |
  701. Mollie

I find this ridiculously outragous. If this happened at my school I would protest or sue the school. It seems totally absurd. If anything, I'd charge $15 to $25 a month to the max!

    September 23, 2010 at 6:30 pm |
  702. Noa

I think that if you get charged 400 dollars to ride a school bus is really outrageous! With the economy the way it is, I would just walk or just have my parents drive me. And if that wasn`t an option, I would just ask someone to drive me to school.

    September 23, 2010 at 8:12 pm |
  703. kira

$400 DOLLARS!! i would rather walk then to spend my time on a bus. you don't charge a student that much money. NO MONEY AT ALL! this is the real world, live with it!

    September 23, 2010 at 8:44 pm |
  704. Cody

You shouldn't have to pay $400 to ride a school bus to a public school, parents send their kids to public schools because they don't feel like they should pay any money to go to a public school.

    September 23, 2010 at 8:46 pm |
  705. Meagan

If I lived in Massachusetts, my mom would take me to school instead of me riding the bus if she had to pay $400 just for me to ride it. It is just absolutely outrageous! I would carpool or have her take me. I understand where they are coming from but I think that should be the school's responsibilty. I also thought our tax money are going to schools.

    September 23, 2010 at 10:15 pm |
  706. JORDY

i think its a bad idea becuase some people are not going to so kids are not going to school. some kids have to walk like 3 miles to get to school. its a bad idea.

    September 24, 2010 at 9:48 am |
  707. Ke$ha

I think that you shouldn't have to pay for a bus ride o school. You already pay to go to school, and pay taxes for it. The parents shouldn't have to pay for kids to go to school, what if they have 3 kids. That 1200 dollars every year until they finish.

    September 24, 2010 at 9:48 am |
  708. Paolo

I think it is a great way of riding bikes or walking it can cause less pollution and gas money. Since you have to pay $400 just to ride the bus. Riding a bike or walking is a good way to wake up in the morning and get fit for your body and mind.

    September 24, 2010 at 9:51 am |
  709. cristal

i think that its not fair because parents work for food, pay bills, and now they need to pay for the bus.that is not cool!!!!and if there to many cars there be to many traffic and they might be car accidents student will be late for class.

    September 24, 2010 at 9:51 am |
  710. Antonio

I think that is outrageous to pay any amount for the bus. Some people have many children and cannot afford to pay that much. If someone has three children they would have to pay 1200 dollars!

    September 24, 2010 at 9:52 am |
  711. jordan

i think kids should not have to walk to school. i think kids should have the rights to ride the bus instead of walking. parents shouldnt have to pay that much money for there kids. they already give enough money to the school by taxs and by fundraisers the schools hand out.

    September 24, 2010 at 9:52 am |
  712. SB

I do not think that they should pay $400 just to ride teh bus. Who would want to pay money just to ride the bus? If I was at that school and had to pay that much money i would transfer to a different school.

    September 24, 2010 at 9:53 am |
  713. Ostin

I think that you should just stick to the real salmon. the fake one might make you sick. the tatse might be diffient. so people just stay to the real :)

    September 24, 2010 at 9:53 am |
  714. Cheyanne

$400 dollars to ride a school bus is crazy! What if there parents don't have money and some parents wont pay $400 dollars so who is going to ride the bus? I honestly would just walk

    September 24, 2010 at 9:54 am |
  715. Jordan

I think it's shocking that the schoolboard would do that.I mean do they think the students are made of money. It's crazy it has to stop.

    September 24, 2010 at 9:55 am |
  716. leybis

it's not fair that our parents have to pay for us to ride the bus, now that theres a crises there asking for money thats wrong even if we had the money we wouldn't pay for it even if it means we have to walk to school.

    September 24, 2010 at 9:56 am |
  717. Lexi

I think that 400 dollars to ride a bus is insane. Because if you cant pay for your child to ride the bus and it's too far for them to walk then you have to get up the same time as your child and have to get ready to drive them to school. But it also can help the school make money but it still isnt right.

    September 24, 2010 at 9:57 am |
  718. marellyn

i think parent should not pay for a ride to shool. i think 400 dollars is too much for a ride to school. i would walk to school insted of pay 400 dallars fora ride.

    September 24, 2010 at 9:57 am |
  719. Miguel

If i was going to that school i wouldn't even go to school. That is the most awful idea i have ever heard. They should try to do fun raisers. i would walk but my school is way to far to walk. Last but not least school is pretty boring and now to make it worst you have to pay to ride some old smelly bus. not such a good idea the school should rethink that idea. >=|

    September 24, 2010 at 9:58 am |
  720. Tatyana

I think its horrible that you have to pay $400! I know the school maybe needs money but dont take it out on the parents! I would diffently walk or skate etc. to get to school!:)

    September 24, 2010 at 9:59 am |
  721. naseer

i think that it is dumb that you would have to pay four hundred dollars to ride the bus because alot of people are going threw a recession and can not afford it

    September 24, 2010 at 10:00 am |
  722. Ostin

to pay to go on the bus. this is school you go there to learn not to get rip off. one thing is if you live close to the school then you should just walk or use a bike. really that is a shame :(

    September 24, 2010 at 10:02 am |
  723. legit

i think it is unnessisary to pay $400 or more to ride the bus. they should do fundrasers or something to earn some money. because winter is coming up and its going to be really cold for some of the children.

    September 24, 2010 at 10:04 am |
  724. Daniela

i think it's crazy paying $400 just to ride the bus, and the bus ride is not really long! It should be at least $35-$50 per person! What happen if you don't have the money??? It is not fair you have to pay.

    .

    September 24, 2010 at 10:07 am |
  725. Ever

That's not fair they have to change that law or something cause i would rather walk or drive by car. Thats not right who would pay $400 for ride on the bus who who?!?! Well thats my opinion about the $400 bus ride.

    September 24, 2010 at 10:09 am |
  726. Fiala

I don't think so!! I will never pay anything like that for something as little as riding the bus! If I lived there I would not go to ANY school doing that! It's just not right that people have to pay $400- $500 just to ride the bus.

    September 24, 2010 at 10:12 am |
  727. Domity

400$ bus ride is the badest idea i have ever heard. I know riding bus is a privillage but parents didnt ask for it,it was schools idea. Thats why parents got jobs in the morniing. so that parents dont have to drive kids to school but 400$.(not a good idea)

    September 24, 2010 at 10:12 am |
  728. Stephanie

I think it is unfair for students to pay $400.00 just to ride the bus. Most people don't have that kind of money. Students will try to ride with parents or friends but when they make it to school they'll see a huge trafic.

    September 24, 2010 at 10:14 am |
  729. Gabriela

Why would someone pay $400 to pay just to ride a bus every single day? Thats crazy! I would rather pay a taxi to take me to school for $7 then $400. I think the school should'nt be so cheap to buy a school bus.

    September 24, 2010 at 10:15 am |
  730. Ariel

We should not paid the school because. We can walk run. But why 400$ how much are the buses fisrt?Where did you get 400$. w eshould not paid totally

    September 24, 2010 at 10:15 am |
  731. franky

i think we should pay at least $6000 to ride.i think that becausedriving a shool bus is pretty tough.you also have to remeber the stops so thats pretty hard

    September 24, 2010 at 10:23 am |
  732. Jeremy

That is way too much if your going to have to pay for a bus. Due to money problems, it would be hard to pay for the bus. We are losing more jobs and will be unable to pay. I would just walk.

    September 24, 2010 at 11:04 am |
  733. Asia

i think that it s stupid to have people walk or pay to ride the bus some parents dont even make 200 dollors just to blow on a bus ride. if you have this rule we are going to have a lot of kids not coming to school. i dont mean homes

    September 24, 2010 at 11:29 am |
  734. Marie

I Think Its Very Unfair Because ; $400 Per Child/Person Come On Now About Also Riding The Bus Thats Like So Wrong And I Think That If They We're To Charge They Could Do It , It Could Be At Least 2.75 A Day Or Something Or 5.00 They Should Be Reasonable. With The Money & Cost Expensives .

    September 24, 2010 at 11:37 am |
  735. Nichole

I dont think they should charge $400 to ride a school bus. I thought the buses were provided by the schools, so therefore the schools should pay for the buses!!!

    September 24, 2010 at 11:39 am |
  736. Rachel

I don't think that you should have to pay to go on the bus. The school should have some sort of free transportation. What do you guys think?

    September 24, 2010 at 1:21 pm |
  737. Ryan

This is dumb because most kids ride the bus to school. i think that you shouldnt have to pay. i would definely compliane about it.

    September 24, 2010 at 1:21 pm |
  738. Rachel

    @Meghan

You have a point. But, Some schools need as much money as they can get.

    September 24, 2010 at 1:22 pm |
  739. melissa

i disagree, because paying to do somthing school calls a privilage is not fair. if i had to do that i would transfer to another school. $400 is mucho money.

    September 24, 2010 at 1:26 pm |
  740. chris

i do not think this is a very smart idea because that is a lot of money just to ride the school bus. to me that is a lot but for some it is not a lot .if you have any comments please reply.

I think it not fair to pay $400 to ride the school bus. What happen if their parent doesn't have money or they working all days, and can't ride their child to go home?

    September 24, 2010 at 1:27 pm |
  742. Leigh

Why would you ever pay to ride a bus? I ride the bus every morning, $400 is alot to most people with not alot of money. Have you ever really thought about it? It's nuts to pay for the right to go to the place you learn at. If I had to pay to ride the bus I'd just ask my mom to drive me. I think my mom would do that then have to pay $400.

    September 24, 2010 at 1:27 pm |

I think that charging tjhat much for a bus ride is insane. The rate is comparable to a local bus fees. If i had to pay that much to ride the bus, i'd rather walk, i just thought of a bus boycott .

    September 24, 2010 at 1:28 pm |
  745. endi

i think its unfair becuase wat if ther poor. they wont be able to pay the money. so like i think the school should provide it.also when the students are walking somthing may happen to them.

    September 24, 2010 at 1:28 pm |
  746. Zuhayr

    @madison i agree totally

    September 24, 2010 at 1:29 pm |
  747. Kevin

i think its crazy because i dont think you should pay to just to ride the bus. you spend way less just driving to school. Maybe they can do a smaller price like $10-$20 dollars.

    September 24, 2010 at 1:29 pm |
  748. Maryanne

I think it's just wrong! What's the point of riding the school bus when your parents can drop you off instead of pay 400 dollars!? I would let my parents take me to school.

    September 24, 2010 at 1:29 pm |
  749. Ethan

I dont think its right to pay for something like that. If you going to have to pay that much for somehting like that you might aa well not have a bus's. I wonder if Obama thinks that's the right thing to do.

    September 24, 2010 at 1:30 pm |
  750. Avery

I would get a ride from my parents or with friends because $500 it alot of money to ride the bus. Its also crazy to have to pay around $500 per child. Its just crazy!

    September 24, 2010 at 1:30 pm |
  751. Kate

This is crazy some middle class families cannot afford this especially if they have sevral kids. It is not worth 400-500$ to pay to get transportation for, it should be free.

    September 24, 2010 at 1:31 pm |
  752. Kate

    @megan
I totally agree with you but apperantly we are out of the recession if you watch the CNN student news daily then you will see that we are out of the recession.

    September 24, 2010 at 1:33 pm |
  753. Avery

    @madison
I totally agree with you! Its not fair because what if parents cant pay for there kids to ride the bus or they can't take there kids to school?
I also agree with Maria, if they had to pay it should be only $75 not $400!!

    September 24, 2010 at 1:35 pm |
  754. Amanda

I think it is way to much just to ride a bus to school.People should not have to pay 400 for kids to get a ride to school. It should be about 50 a month.

    September 24, 2010 at 1:36 pm |
  755. Kelly

I think that is rediculious! students should not have to pay $400 ,just to ride the bus,the school needs to provied free transportantion.

    September 24, 2010 at 1:36 pm |
  756. Tyrus

WHAT??? $400 for a bus ride i would either go to a different school or get my parents to give me ride because $400 is outrageaous. kids should not have to pay to ride the bus because being in the school system has to provide education, lunch, physical education, and public transportation.

    September 24, 2010 at 1:38 pm |
  757. James

If they decide to tell kids and there parents to pay 400 bucks to ride a school bus, people can just go to another school if they want. Then bye bye buisness!

    September 24, 2010 at 1:38 pm |
  758. Katie

I think paying $400 is crazy. i don't think children's parents should have to pay a fee for a tranportation provided for students to help their education. Some people are hurting alot from the recession, and some have even lost their jobs. It would be really unfair, epsecally for families with more than 1 child.

    September 24, 2010 at 1:42 pm |
  759. Xina

why in the world should we pay $400 to ride the bus? we already paying taxes. plus on the buses some people get bullied and get in fights so why would my parents pay $400 to ride a bus where it's not even that safe

    September 24, 2010 at 1:42 pm |
  760. james

Why would they make us pay 400$. I thought they already got enough out of our taxes. Instead of using it all the new stuff that we dont even need why dont they use it on something useful like paying for these buses!

    September 24, 2010 at 1:45 pm |
  761. alyssa

i think letting parent pay $400 dollars per kid is awful wahat if the have 5 kids that could be very expensive but then agian walking is good for you soo i guess we should walk more but $400 is not the way to go

    September 24, 2010 at 1:46 pm |
  762. saydi

I think it is a bad idea because it is a lot money just for a few minutes.
What happen if our parents have tow or more kids.I think it will be hard for them.It a BAD idea!!!

    September 24, 2010 at 1:49 pm |
  763. Cesar

I don't like this at all 400 dollars to ride the bus thats outrageous! Why not participate in more fund raisers to get money for school. My opnion to this is that paying for a bus ride not good.

    September 24, 2010 at 1:53 pm |
  764. Darlene and Tatiana

Is so dumb because parents are pay the house bill and now to ride the bus is not fair.

    September 24, 2010 at 2:02 pm |
  765. Jack

At my school we have to pay $200 a kid if you live 2 miles or less from our school. What i think really stinks is that we cant go on the bus for free because we live 1.9 miles away from school and we asked and our school distict said no. So i ride to school with my mom or my friend.

    September 24, 2010 at 2:05 pm |
  766. DAVER

WELL I THINK THAT WE SOULD PAY THE BUS BUT NOT $40O BUT AT LEAST $100...BECAUSE WHAT IF THE PARENTS DID NOT HAVE THAT MONEY THEY COULD USE IT FOR BILLS FOOD AND ETC.

    September 24, 2010 at 4:22 pm |
  767. Hannah

If your school needs money, have a fundraiser or something like that. It's just outrageous to make parents pay $400 for their children to ride the bus, especially since (if you look at the poll) it is the most popular way to get to school. If this happened at my school, I would definitely ride with a friend, my parents or figure out some other way. I would also complain to the school board, and I'm sure that others would, too. This could even go as far as to bus drivers losing their jobs as the result of no one riding the bus. And we need the recession to stop, not to continue getting worse.

    September 24, 2010 at 9:21 pm |
  768. alesha

I think that it is really stupid that parents have to pay to ride the bus.

    September 25, 2010 at 1:30 pm |

It's absolutely absurd to make people pay $400 just to go to school. If I had to do this, I would probably complain to the board and protest.

    September 25, 2010 at 6:30 pm |
  770. Jesse

I think $400 is ridiculous, so no. I would rather walk the 2 miles.

  771. Ta'shae

I think $400 for a bus ride is unbelievible, $400 could get you a bunch of stuff, but $400 is too much money for a twenty minute or less ride to school and from school!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    September 26, 2010 at 9:49 am |
  772. mikki

That is insane! $400 just to ride a school bus.A lot of my friends take the bus.If 5 of my friends would have to pay $400 each that would make $2000 altogether!

    September 26, 2010 at 11:31 am |
  773. renae

i think that paying $400 to ride a bus is outrageous! Parents shouldn't have to pay that much for riding a bus.

    September 26, 2010 at 2:59 pm |
  774. McKenna

I do NOT think this a good idea because 1. two miles is not very far. 2. $400 is a lot of money! 3. They could be doing something different to raise money, something more fun like school fun raisers like magazine sales or something. All I know is this is not a very good idea because people don't have a lot money because of the bad economy so now they have to give more money that could be used for groceries or something really important.

    September 26, 2010 at 7:36 pm |

I THINK THAT IS TOO EXPENSIVE

that is not rite y do u make people pay

    September 27, 2010 at 4:55 pm |
  780. Greta

that would be outrageous!$400?i think they should get money from fundraisers, and it would be funner for kids!

    September 27, 2010 at 6:19 pm |
  781. Davona.

Personallyy i think its dumb like who would want to pay that much? So if i were in this situation i would start getting rides on days when the weather is bad and walk when its nice out.

    September 27, 2010 at 7:44 pm |
  782. Josie

I can see why the school may need the money with the recetion and all, but $400! People who ride the bus are going through tough times too! It's hard enough for some family to get money to buy groceries, let alone ride the bus!

    September 27, 2010 at 7:47 pm |
  783. Selena

honestly i think the whole idea of the goverment is forcing the bus riders walk or car pull.but if i had to choose i would car pull or bike ride.

    September 27, 2010 at 8:55 pm |
  784. Selena

honestly i think the whole idea of the goverment is forcing the bus riders walk or car pull is just plain raw!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I think that it is crazy to make parents pay $400 to ride the bus, if it were only like $50 it'd be ok. Still a little high, but definately better than $400!!!!

    September 27, 2010 at 9:05 pm |
  786. Max

you could take a plane there with that money thats one heck of a ripp off.

    September 28, 2010 at 12:53 am |
  787. Preston

$400 TO RIDE THE BUS!!!! That is just not fair to people who live in the country. Like if there parents are always at work or they never have time to take there kid to school. Then how will they get to school if there parent don't take them. What happens if they live 13 miles away then how are they going to get to school?? NOT FAIR!!!

    September 28, 2010 at 10:03 am |
  788. Josh

Thats Ridiculous. Some of the kids ride buses because they don't have money for a car. or their parents just can't take them. But still! thats messed up. I don't ride the bus so this wouldn't affect me. But others that do ride the bus probably won't like it.

    September 28, 2010 at 10:06 am |
  789. matthew

I think that is outrages to pay $400 for a bus ride to and from school! If the buses need money have a funraiser.

    September 28, 2010 at 10:44 am |
  790. Mike

What kind of crud are the schools coming up with!? 400 dollars, thats over two or so months wage for some parents. The spending cuts are causing most of the problems though. So maybe we should get some of those new laws changed.

    September 28, 2010 at 10:51 am |
  791. Melissa

I think its not ok that you have to ride the bus for $400. Its just a waste of money. I rather just walk to school

    September 28, 2010 at 1:11 pm |
  792. Lola

Paying 400 dollars to ride the school bus is absolutley outrageous! Most people, like my family can not aford to pay that kind of money for transpertation to and from school. I definatley think that if they are going to make familes pay for their kids to ride the bus it needs to be a much cheaper price.

    September 28, 2010 at 1:23 pm |
  793. kamroa

I ride the bus and i have 4 other kids in my family. Yeah.. I know that it cost money to fill the bus up with fuel but, my family doesnt have the money to pay 400 dollars. People might say, wow just walk but i live like 20 minutes out of town !!!

    September 28, 2010 at 1:25 pm |
  794. jakob

i understand the schools situation, but not why they would earn the money through one of the most important things, transportation. And they did not consider the fact that some people live across a major highway.

    September 28, 2010 at 5:44 pm |
  795. Andrea

i think this is unfair to all the students because some of there parents wont be able to take them to school.

    September 28, 2010 at 7:00 pm |
  796. Cassandra

I think if students at that school have to pay 400 dollors just to ride the school bus to get to school is a rip off but if the school dosen't change that then they could walk to school or ride there bikes or if there parents have some extra time on there hands they could drive you to school.

    September 28, 2010 at 8:15 pm |
  797. Cassandra

I think if students at that school have to pay 400 dollars just to ride the school bus to get to school and back is a rip off but if the school dosen't change that then they could walk to school or ride there bikes or if there parents have some extra time on there hands they could drive you to school.

    September 28, 2010 at 8:28 pm |
  798. Cassandra

I don't take the bus to school or ride my bike to school I walk to school but I got to admit it, even though it is a rip off I think it's a good idea because we ride the bus to and from school and our bus driver's have to pay for gas so we won't have to push the bus but there the only one that have to pay for gas and I don't think it's fare so that's probably why there charging you.P.S.this is my opinion not your's so don't get mad at me because of my opinion.

    September 28, 2010 at 8:49 pm |
  799. kyarra

you shouldn't have to pay that much for one student.at least pay 100 dollars because thats to much to go home and then go to school.that means if we paid 100 dollars nobody would be riding the bus.

    September 29, 2010 at 7:41 am |
  800. Andrew

no because a lot of people ride the bus. Why would we make
    make parents pay more.

    September 29, 2010 at 8:02 am |
  801. Kaylee

$400 dollars to ride the bus!!! My family can't even afford gas to work ad back! That price is outragious! The can't expect people to pay that much. So they are going to have a lot of cars at there school in the morning. Also if you think that $400 isn't bad to pay the bus, then you go ahead and pay it, but me, I am walking!

    September 29, 2010 at 9:20 am |
  802. noah

no that is stupid why should tthe parents have to pay why doesnt the bus driver pay the parents

    September 29, 2010 at 2:57 pm |
  803. rebecca

well i think that paying 400 dollers to ride the school bus beacuse some families can not oford that much money its just rediculous really why would some one pay that much money.

    September 29, 2010 at 3:52 pm |
  804. Herra

I think that all the people that that live less that 2 miles still get a ride in a car, and plus if they live more than four miles they are probably close to another school, but then again they can start car pooling and it will save
fossil fuels and help the earth. Buses may give off more pollution than cars, and it will save the schools money for other activities or better food to make more healthy choices, for the people and environment.

    September 29, 2010 at 7:34 pm |
  805. Fiona

What the heck why would anyone want to pay $400 to ride the bus. No one would so, If he school charges that no one will ride it and they will be wasting even MORE money to feul the busses for the few kids that do pay the money.. They need to find money in other places rather than our pockets

    September 29, 2010 at 9:05 pm |
  806. angelica

I think you shouldn't have to pay more than like $75 a year for a school bus. Think of how poor the economy is, and how many people have enough money to pay for the bus. Some people barely have enough money to pay for school, and some poeple even get to go to school for free because their parents either don't have a job, or their jobs pay them very little.

    September 30, 2010 at 11:44 am |
  807. ashley

you shouldnt have to pay over $400 just to ride the school bus just to get to school! if i lived there, i would walk or just car pool with a friend or friends. i would rather have my parents take me then take the bus for that money. what if families dont have the money to send their kids on the bus, parents cant take them because they are at work and there is no one around them to take them to school. how would they get to school...............

    September 30, 2010 at 11:44 am |

thats bogas, bus's shood not cost that much!! id make my kid walk...!! save me some monayy

    September 30, 2010 at 12:04 pm |
  809. Chelby

I honestly think this is rediculious that people should walk unless they live a mile away, it would help with obbsitty problems and save people from spend money and help the school with saving a little bit of gas.

    September 30, 2010 at 1:59 pm |

CRAZY, if the school cant provide transportation then what do we expect

    October 1, 2010 at 1:18 pm |
  814. Edward

What the heck?! Why should you live far away from a school only to have no ride there? Think about it, the parents of elementary kids probably are busy and the kids will have to ride the bus. If these buses were deprived from these kids, they would have to walk and that in itself is dangerous!

    October 1, 2010 at 2:42 pm |
  815. kierra

i think it not fair that parents have to pay $400 just so there kids can ride to school. At my school we don't have to pay. So if we dont have to pay why should oother people have pay!!!:)

    October 1, 2010 at 5:24 pm |

Hey, whats up? I ride the bus to school and i think that it is rediculous that we may have to pay 400 dallors to ride the bus. If that happens then i am not ridin the bus anymore....... :)

  821. Desi

Honestly I think having to pay for bus service at all is outrageous!Sure I could understand that schools are running out of money and need help with paying for gas, parts, seats, and drivers for busses. But I still tink that parents should not have to pay a fee even if it was on $10.00 But seriously getting in to the hundreds to make people pay for their child's bus riding! That should be illegal! And if you expect a child especially a yung one to walk two miles to school is OUTRAGEOUS! Parents need to stand up for their children and help the school's understand that it is ridiculous!

    October 3, 2010 at 3:30 pm |
  822. Cole

people shouldn't pay $400 for a place you don't want a be and

    October 5, 2010 at 12:55 pm |
  823. J.

Guess i would find a ride are start walking. But that don't make no type of since just trying take little kids and teenagers money. Thats not setting a good example for them because thats the same thing as hustling to me.

    October 5, 2010 at 1:06 pm |
  824. Jessica

if they done that you would have more drop outs than they have today there trying to get kids to go to school but there gonna make to pay $400 are $500 to ride thats crazy thats a house payment right there, like i said there would be alota drop outs.

    October 5, 2010 at 1:08 pm |
  825. Donald

That's just unfair for school transportation to charge that much to ride the bus. All that money could go to some other use in everyday lives. If it happened then they wouldn't achieve their goal because all students might ride with a friend, or ride a bike. Anything to get from paying $450-$500 fee.

    October 5, 2010 at 1:12 pm |
  826. Ashton

Personally, I would rather not have to pay to ride the bus, but if my school board saw that it was needed for funding , then i guess i would support their descision and pay it.

    October 5, 2010 at 6:02 pm |
  827. Morgan

This is crazy. The goverment wants money, schools want more and more money. I could maybe do like $10 or $15 but $400! It's just outragous. >:(

    October 5, 2010 at 6:11 pm |
  828. Paolo

This is BAD who pays $400 or $500 dollars to go to school its like buying MANY things in wal-mart

    October 5, 2010 at 6:33 pm |
  829. Bailey

I think it should be free because some kids live really far out and can't afford thats much just to take kids to school.

    October 5, 2010 at 7:15 pm |

I think paying to ride a bus is crazy. I would bike to school if only we had a bike rack.

    October 5, 2010 at 7:25 pm |
  831. ethan

I don't know about other kids, but its not right i mean who would pay $400 to ride a bus, i bet the schools who does this is going to lose all the students who ride the buses, and the buses are going to sit around tracking dust.

    October 5, 2010 at 7:36 pm |
  832. Austin

I'd rather walk 10 miles then pay for something that should be absolutely free

that is such a rediculous thing to do to people. having kids alone is hard to pay for but paying money for there kids to ride the bus. i cant even understand why they would do such a thing and im not really satisfied and i am reallllly mad

    October 6, 2010 at 12:03 pm |
  835. Audre

This is stupid! Sure, they need money but wow! 400 dollars isn't pocket change for a lot of us! I'd switch schools if I got the choice there.

    October 6, 2010 at 12:35 pm |
  836. Robert

I would probably just walk or ride a bike in the nice days and get a ride from parents and mad weather days because having to pay that much money is crazy! i think they should put an age limit with the 2 miles of school to ride the bus because you cant have little 5 or 6 year olds walking by them selves to skool if they live two miles away!

    October 6, 2010 at 2:01 pm |
  837. Megan

Why dont you just chop off your big toe and give that to them! It would be the same. 4oo to 500$ is too much!

    October 6, 2010 at 3:22 pm |
  838. Marisa

Alot of students need to ride the bus everyday because alot of parents have to go to work in the mornings so they dont have time to drive their kids to school. Its just not fair.

  839. Dani

Well start walking. Some families can't even pay for school supplies, so how are they supposed to pay for the bus. If you 2 children then it will be double the price.

    October 6, 2010 at 4:00 pm |
  840. christian

My opinion on the price for the bus is tht, Why should students have to pay bus fee's, Atfer a whole centurey now they choose to charge. I think this is outragous of what there trying to do to the people of the united states.

  843. alex

thi is terrible why should we pay so much i can understand like 5 bucks a week but its like high class bullying its like "give me 400 bucks or get off and walk"

    October 6, 2010 at 8:08 pm |
  844. Trevor

This is wrong. Schools know economic times are bad yet they decied to fix they're probloms by chargeing kids who ARE TO in the crisis 400 $ a year. THIS IS WRONG

    October 6, 2010 at 10:31 pm |
  845. Trevor

This is very wrong. Most people cant even pay for supplies and even getting they're kids in school so how are they supposed to come up with 400 $ a year??

    October 6, 2010 at 10:34 pm |
  846. Megan

I think it is dumb to pay four to five hundred to let your kid ride the bus. Ithink that because if they are prity much forsed to have an education then they should have a free ride to the school. Some kids parents can'y aford it because the economy. A lot less kids are not going to be able to make it to school every day because there parents dont want them to walk because there have all ready been cases of people trying to take kid so good luck to the schools.

    October 7, 2010 at 11:34 am |
  847. Chad

I just simply think this is dumb to charge people 500$ to ride a bus to an education place.

    October 7, 2010 at 12:32 pm |
  848. Tanner

I think $400 is way to extreme, I mean they want to get an education without spending a ton of money.

    October 7, 2010 at 5:16 pm |
  849. Emaline

$400 to ride the school bus that's ensain!!!! No one should have to pay that much to get a ride to school. To ride the bus to school should not be a big bill also including the school supplies yearly, school lunch, and an education to pay for. That's adding another $400 dollars to what already has to be provided and payed for!!!!

    October 7, 2010 at 5:21 pm |
  850. caleb

I think that its wrong to do that and i just think that the school needs mony$ and if they do they can just say so. or just have a fundraser and there is not going to be many peaple to ride it.

    October 7, 2010 at 5:24 pm |
  851. Arielle

they don't have private bus service at are school ,but my mom was willing to pay.At my school we can have bus service ,but you have to live far enough like 2.2 miles or something like that but i live 2.1 miles and i don't qualified for it, and I've been late for the past 6 weeks of school and had to go through paper work and yeah.i think its crazy do they not care for are education.when I'm late i miss a lot of stuff.

    October 7, 2010 at 7:57 pm |
  852. Emma

REALLY? what if you can't afford it and you can't get a ride home from your parents? I really think that this idea is S-T-U-P-I-D STUPID.

    October 7, 2010 at 8:15 pm |
  853. wendy

i would go crazy if i have to pay $400 dollars just to ride the bus

    October 7, 2010 at 8:37 pm |
  854. cassi

If I had to pay $400 to ride the school bus I wouldn't be riding the bus. That defeats the purpose of riding it because nobody would ride it.

    October 7, 2010 at 8:59 pm |
  855. A.J.

I would probably walk or get a ride. Let it be known, the school does not have to give bus service to students within a two mile radius of the school

    October 7, 2010 at 9:18 pm |
  856. D.S.

Why do you have to pay $400 just to ride a school bus? You can ride your bike or something

    October 7, 2010 at 11:38 pm |
  857. Daniela

i think its wrong that you have to pay $400. i think is should a least be $35 and it is not even 45 mins from your house. So yes its mess up what happen if you dont have the money??

    October 8, 2010 at 10:06 am |
  858. Kelly

i think its a really bad idea chidern should pay money for transpotaion

    October 8, 2010 at 1:21 pm |
  859. Kevin

I think itshorriable . why should you pay just to go to school. maybe if it was a lower price like 10 -15 dollars.

    October 8, 2010 at 1:24 pm |
  860. wendy

i think is not fair because other people dont have alot of money to pay 400 every year. some people get pay alot and some people dont when you pay 400 every years you will not pay your bill . and buy food .

    October 8, 2010 at 1:25 pm |
  861. wendy

i think is not fair because other people dont have alot of money to pay 400 every year. some people get pay alot and some people dont when you pay 400 every years you will not pay your bill . and buy food . for there self so its not fair. for people to pay 400 every years .

    October 8, 2010 at 1:27 pm |
  862. john

I think having to pay for a school bus just makes no sense. why should we have to pay its the city and schools job to provide transportation to the kids that go to the schools.

    October 8, 2010 at 5:33 pm |
  863. angelina and gabby

I feel that 400$ is too much money they should have to pay only like 2$ to get to school like it is really outrageouse and they wouldve just spent all of the months worth of money

    October 8, 2010 at 5:41 pm |
  864. Ashlin

I think who ever thought that up is (no offense) escaped from the loony bin! I mean it's just plain crazy!seriously!

    October 8, 2010 at 5:55 pm |
  865. Anne

I think it's the most bizzare thing I've ever heard of! If schools need some money, then just do fundraisers! I think if they do charge $400 people will start to drive their kids to school–and then the buses will probably not be used. I think the schools think it's a good idea, and the bus company might think of it as bad.

    October 9, 2010 at 12:32 pm |
  866. Wendy

WHAT??????? Are they crazy!? We have freedom!

    October 9, 2010 at 5:58 pm |

i take the bus and with the recession they cant pay that kind of money for transportation.

    October 9, 2010 at 6:47 pm |
  868. Jacki

Paying any amount of money to ride the school bus is absolutely outrageous. A lot of parents would not be able to afford that amount, and they would have to force there kids to either walk over 2 miles to school every morning, or try to catch a ride with there friends? Its a nice way to loose students, and students to loose an education.

i dont think think that they should do that because for parents with multiple kids they cant afford it and they will have there children(S) go to a better school. so ur just losing the for better school scores and money. who came up with that "idea"

I think that is just ridiculous. First of all, if you look at the poll, a huge variety of students ride the bus. Would you like it if you had to pay $400 just to ride to and from school? I ride the bus and my parents are very busy. If we had to pay $400 for the bus my parents would just say no, you're not riding the bus anymore (I like the bus!) and take me to and from school. Which my mom would absolutley hate!

i personaly think that we shouldnt have to pay to ride the bus we pay enough thing for example we pay fee, taxes, to go to school, for shool supply. then things that dont have to do with school we have to pay rent, electric, heat, gas. by the time ur done we wont have anything. :(

Many of people don't have enough money to that much a year. Raise money like reading things ask people to help raise for that cookie dough sale there is many things to do to raise money.

I think that some families are struggling in their lives that they cannot take their kids to school and cannot afford it. If schools need more money for buses then they should have more fund-raisers.

To be honest if it costed $400 to ride the bus i wouldn't even think about riding the bus. To many families are having a life struggle just trying to do enough to keep there family i don't think its right to pull that. Have more school fund raisers to earn some money. I'm pretty sure that $400 just to ride a school bus would change a ton of people's minds; so in my opinion you have more people get rides by family or friends than people riding busses.

i would call the school board and say that its insane to make parents pay for their kids to ride a bus.its just not fair to parents

I personally don't think they should have bus routes. I think this because, it takes a lot of gas to fill up school buses when parents can just take their kids. If that would happen schools would have more technology!

    Thankss!

with the struggles that we have today it very hard to get 400-500 dollars. In my opinion I would walk it would save a lot of money plus you could use the money to buy something more useful.
