Burning the Quran?

After watching Wednesday's story on why a group wants to burn the Quran and hearing some views against that plan, we'd like to hear what you think about the issue.

Burning the Quran is almost like burning the Bible. It's their book of worship. We shouldn't burn the Quran just because we don't believe in what they do.

Burning the Quran??? Really? He is not understanding that the RELIGION OF ISLAM did not kill people on 9/11 but those Islamic terrorist did. It is sad that a 15 year old like me and plenty more around the world understands this. Also why burn the Quran? You do not see Muslims going around burning the bible in USA. You see the USA flag being burned but that political. There is a separation between issues of religion and politics.. This person does not see it....
    It is sad and pathetic.

I think it would be a bad idea, because many people could be offended by this. I mean what if people wanted to burn your religion's religious book? I'm pretty sure it would upset you maybe even make you angry. So, why would we do the same to them?

While this act is protected by the first amendment, the church is being extremely selfish. They have completely disregarded and ignored the safety of innocent American troops still deployed in the Middle East, who will be the ones to pay for their Quran burning.

The Quran doesn't symbolize Islam extremists, it symbolizes the Islam faith. If people want to show that they are against terrorists, find a better way to do it than burning a religious icon. How would you feel if you knew that something sacred to you would be destroyed?

The pastor says he is aiming this at Muslim extremists. He fails to notice that compared to the worldwide Muslim population, there are very few extremists. Last year when we studied world religion, our teacher and a classmate who is Muslim told us the stories are very similar to those of the Christian religion, conveying a similar message. Although it does not have the same name, they worship our same God. Also, although the extremists will most likely receive the pastor's "message," does he honestly think it will make them stop? All this man is doing is sending a message to extremists that will have no effect, and harming the rest of the entire Muslim population.
Also, I agree with the General: He is endangering many American troops. If the extremists decide to take action after his burning, and take it out on our troops, hundreds, or even thousands could die. Is that really worth sending the extremists a message? Killing all those soldiers? No.

I think that burning the Quran is a crime because it's like the entire key to a religion, and just because Christians don't believe in the same things, it doesn't mean that no one else can't.

burning the quran is not appropriate. it's kinda their bible. other religion, such like christian would be mad if someone burning their bible. so do the muslim. and it's not all the muslim are terrorist. some of them are inocent and want to rub along with their community.we should respect other religion.

From what I've heard, it sounds like the Pastor is burning the Qurans because of the 9/11 incident. I think he should think about the outcome of this action, and the feelings of others in America, and all over the world. It's not exactly illegal what he is doing, but I find it very disrespectful. I, personally think this action is not the way to go, and perhaps he should speak out, and stand up, in a more un-offending way.

Burning the Quran is unjust and completly contrdicts the U.S.constution. Freedom of Speach press and Religion. We are a nation that prides our self on having freedom so who are we to say it is right to burn the Quran just because we do not believe as they do

I think it's stupid to burn the Quran. I'm muslim and I know that burning The Holy Quran is like burning The Holy Bible. You don't see muslims/jews going out and burning your book of worship just to make a point.

    Hello all,

1/ I beleive, burning quran, is much better to keep it in dirty hand with negative mind. ( muslims if find quran in news paper thrown in the street , first he collect it, then burn it ).
2/ If the burner is not stupid let him remove it from muslims heart and let them converted to christian or even back to his ororigin relgious, instead burn it.
3/ If you want to excit muslims community worldwild it's much better to excit the christian community agaist the shame pop sexsual activities.
4/ Please do it and make sure that it will spot news worldwid then all people knows, sure they want to know this relegion, so you may make a huge persons convinced to convert to islam which a big service for muslims.

at the end make sure you want it or not , the Islam is century relegion, and is for all continents.

Burning the Quran is wrong. If we don't teach religous tollerence, we are just teaching each other that it is okay to hate, which is obviously wrong.
These acts are horrid and, as a practicing Christian, I would be just as offended if someone burned a Bible because of an act by an extreme White Supremacy group.
What I see happening is that they are taking the only symbol they can find that relates to the terror groups, the Quran, and using it to show they don't like what happened durring 9/11. But using the Islamic holy book and burning it doesn't just give out the message of dislike to terrorist groups. It also gives out the message of hate to any Muslim living world wide.

This is totally racist! It violates a Muslim's right to practice their religion the way they want. That church wants to burn the Quran's because they think that the content is too extreme. I wonder what they would say when people would want to burn the Bible because they think its too intense.

I think that burning the Quaran is a bad idea because it goes back into history when social injustice was happening to the African Americans. When we know the ending and the consequences with it, why should we start it . Burning the Quaran is a danger to everyone, mostly the troops in Afghanistan.

that is so insane and crazy, i know the thought there trying to put out is kind of good, but what if insted of the quran what if it was the bible for example or whatever your religion's book was . How you feel about it ?

Anyway you slice it...dishonoring another persons religious belief is wrong. If a Muslim church member said they plan to burn the holy bible or the book of Mormon it woulld be stopped & the church member removed.

I believe this is a radical move that will sting the souls of the Islamic Religion and most definitely cause a backlash. They who behead our civilians, dive bomb & kill our innocent citizens, illiminate our Soldiers with roadside bombs and won't identify themselves as Military or even have the guts to put on a uniform deserve nothing less. Meet them on their own grounds. Fight Fire with Fire. They burn our Flag,,, why not burn their Quran? They will not stop with Israel or the US. They want Global takeover . They have proven throughout History that they have no intentions of being a peaceful people. You cannot reason with these people and you cannot trust them. Do unto them as they do unto us. We need to wake up and form our own Christian Radical Group before we find the US is a 3rd world country. Theirs is a Religion that should not be allowed here in this country because it is a threat and a danger to our people. They make up the 5th Wall,,, and that will be our destruction if we're not careful.

burning thd quran will just send the wrong message to the wrong people and will give the taliban or any body who is against us one more reason to fight back, itll make matters worse for those familys who have loved ones over seas such as my family and i. And i completly agree with the 1st comment. Every religion has theyre own beliefs! Who are we to say they are wrong for theirs. If he conciders himself a man of god then he should know god will judge so who is he to do his work!

Im going to have to agree with Kate, we cant judge their way of religion, its like having someone come and tell us we cant read bibles. Im still against having the Islamic Center built near Ground Zero, why cant they have it built somewhere else, there's plenty of room in the United States.

I think that it's quite sensible to burn the Quran. Of course its just like burning the Bible, but that's only when the believers are not radicals. That means if someone always asks for a "holy war", that must be too dangerous. We DO NOT scorn them, but for the safety of our society, I think it is proper to do so.

I think that burning the Quran is not a good idea no matter how you look at it. I dont know how they think that this could be a good idea. Its putting our troops and us in harm. This is the same as buring our bible would they ever think about doing that? I believe that we should respect everybodies religion beliefs. If we were to burn the Quran this would be affecting all Muslims, not just the ones that flew into the twin towers.

  26. lindsey

i think that we shouldn't burn the quran. to me it's just as if someone burned the bible. the bible is something i believe in, & if the quran is what they believe in, then they should get the right to. it may be wrong to others, but that's their opinon, and they should get the option to believe what they want.

The Quran is the holy book for the Muslims and the Bible is the holy book for Christians. Burning the Quran would be like burning the Bible. Its cruel and harsh decision to burn the book. The purpose of burning the book is in honor of the people who died in 9-11 but there were plenty of Muslims who died that day in the twin towers.

    September 8, 2010 at 9:02 am |

When I think about this I first think how I would feel if my beliefs were just going to be burned into nothing. Okay, maybe you dont believe in the same things but that doesn't make it wrong. People can't help what they believe in and neither can you and we should always respect others and their beliefs.

As a studnet, i believe that buning the quran is only causing us as a nation more trouble. We have troops in Afghanistan, and by burning the quran, it is putting our guys in danger. Rev. Terry Jones of Gainesville, Fla. has no right to insult the muslin culture by holding this event! We wouldn't want anyone to burn our Holy Bible, and I would be highly upset and would not approve. I think this whole idea of burning their Holy book is ridiculous. And should not be allowed.

    September 8, 2010 at 9:04 am |
  30. Dustio

I personally think that burning the Quran would be endangering our troops and even our nation. So just because we dont beleive in what they beleive in doesnt mean we should burn their holy book. I just dont think we should because not all musilums are terrorist and this would offend them just like it would offrnd us if they burned the bible.

I think that burning the Quran is highly disrespectful because that is an insult to a persons religion. Thats like burning the bible, if that was done there would be more problems than they're now.

  32. Dylen

I think that burning the Quran would be a mistake. The United States of America has been through enough already and by burning the Quran it only makes more drame not only between our religions but our countrys. I have two uncles fighting in the war right now and i would hate to know that these people burning the Quran is what made someone over there kill them or any other servicemen. So I think it will only turn out in a very bad way.

    September 8, 2010 at 9:06 am |
  33. CJ

I believe that burning the Quran is a bad idea. Burning the holy book of any religion is a pure insult to people everywhere. Also, on top of the fact that Rev. Terry Jones also did not know any of the names of those who had fallen on 9/11, and he says that he wishes to burn the Quran only to be against Extremists, yet the burning of this holy book is an act of hatred toward Muslims everywhere.

  34. Brittani

Well i agree with kate because i think its wrong burning someone elses property. So like for instance what if its the other way around and the islamic people want to burn the bible because they thaught it was wrong because i believe in GOD. Well they believe what they want, just like i believe what i want so LET THEM BE. Whats the point of bothering them when there not bothering us. TREAT PEOPLE THE WAY YOU WANT TO BE TREATED. And unless you want to be treated like you dont get to choose your OWN religion then put a sock in it and let them be.

I think that burning the Quran is not right at all for it is against Freedom of Relgion. To me freedom of religion is a great thing for i can look at other religons and not be judged for wanting to know more. I was raised a christian yet i found that my beliefs are more that of a wiccan. If we had no freedom of religion, i would be accused as a witch. To burn a bible is like burning of the us flag. its saying that you hate them even if your trying to protest. Yes it good that they wish to protest against the ones who went exteme but don't you think the muslins have been accused enough? My cousin is a marine and he returns home in October. Than he gets deploded to the front lines to help finish removing troops and getting Irag and Afanistan back on their feet. I would hate to lose my cousin because The Dove World Outreach Church burns Qurans. He may be a knuckle head at times, but he is still a cousin who is dear to me.

So for Everyone who is in the Armed Forces, Don't Burn the Qurans. I don't think you would like it if someone burned a bible. Hateing another for their beliefs is not right at all. Its like relgionish Rasism and it WRONG.

I may only be a senior in high school but i know never to burn something from another religion.

I believe that’s very wrong because their is only one God and you should believe in all of them. If he is a pastor, he should know that. Please, lets have a vote on whether to burn or not burn the Koran That this is wrong!

I think that they shouldn’t do such a thing. That is disrespectful to the religion. I am a Muslim myself so I am really offended about that decision! .A lot of Christians would probably be upset if Muslims decided to burn the Holy Bible. Thank you for the time to speak my mind.

As a Christian, Jesus teaches us to love all. I may not agree with the Muslim faith but I am to love them and share the love of Christ with them. If I do not share the love of Jesus with them they will all spend eternity seperated from God. They have the right to place a building wherever it is legal. I have no problem with this. It will give Christians in New York the opportunity to show love to them and pray that they would come to know Jesus.

I do not understand what people are thinking, trying to burn an important religious item in the Islamic religion. It is absurd and I do not support it. This action will only create more conflict between nations in an already troubled world. This is highly uncivilized and I feel that there will be a heated consenquence to this action.

First, we live in a country where you are free to choose and practice your own religion even if that religion bombs people. Second, everyone should respect ever other individuals beliefs no matter how farfetched it may be. Also, In my own personal opinion burning the Quran is not going to do anything but spread more hate and more deaths of innocent people.

The whole idea is ridiculous. They have their own beliefs and we do not have the right to destroy them. They need to know that their religion is safe in America and this is not one of the ways to show them that is true. The pastor of the church said that they are not trying to offend them, but burning their holy book seems pretty offending to me.

I see enough violence to fill a year every single day either in the news or in person. Why go looking for more violence by influencing it on others.
The Quran is a book of worship in which a person can live their daily lives by is that not what the bible is ? A person dies every six seconds and a person is born every 5 seconds. That means more people die than our born. I beg of you all to live by what you believe in for all good in humanity. In the crusade they killed many Quran believers just because they believed in something different who was the infidel ?

Just because we've had problems with there country doesn't mean burning there Quran will help any. It's like there book of worship, I think it will only make things worse.

They're targeting the extremests, but it's still considered offensive to all Muslums. It's like the Bible for us, it's they're book of worship. It's would be just wrong to burn it in protest. The past is the past, and we may still be effected now, but getting revenge is never right.

This will accomplish nothing but to feed the fires of hate & rage on both sides... It's entirely counter productive.

Burning books in general is stupid.

and while I'm at it... after ten years why can't Americans at large comprehend that the VAST majority of muslims are not terrorists.

I don't think we should burn theQuran because we believe in different things they do. They should be able to believe in whatever they want and not have to worry about us burning it.

Really bad idea. I don't think burning the Quran will help in any way. Just because some people don't believe the same things that other people do, it's just going to make things worse in afganistan.

If burning a Bible is something they really want to do then they can go ahead and burn it. But if I were going to burn something I wouldn't burn a Bible. To others it may be just a book but to other's it's something worth having and actually wanting.

Burning the Quran is just a expression of OUR freedom. The people in the Middle East constantly slander our names and beliefs as Americans by burning our flag, broadcasting propaganda and pushing our patience. We have our rights and we should excercise them.

I think that burning the Quran would just create more tension and anxiety. Burning their book is like telling them that their religion doesn't matter. This act is beyond disrespect and ignorance.

Burning the Quran is wrong. Its kinda like burning the bible, their bible. Just because they believe in something different from our religion doesn't mean you should go around burning the book they worship. Its wrong very wrong

War is finally over! Burning the Quran would most likely endanger our troops even more. What do we have to prove if we burn their book of religion? I wouldn't like it very much if they burnt our Bible! People who agree with burning the Quran are being hypocrates.

Everyone has their differences. But I think that we're taking a bigger step than necessary to handle the situation. We shouldn't burn the Quran just because we're different. That's their way of worship and their right. We shouldn't mess with other people's religion and we should definitely not burn the Quran. But of course, this is just my opinion. What's yours?

Having all the Qurans burned is not a very smart idea. The burning of the Quran is putting hundreds if not thousands of lives in danger whether they are US troops or innocent people of the Islamic culture. I think that anyone who wants to keep the Quran should keep it and anyone else who would want to burn it, should burn it. Not everyone should be "punished" because of other people's actions toward it.

I really think that burning the Quran is really wrong and disrespectful. Just because we don't use the Quran doesnt mean that we can disrespect them and their beliefs

In my eyes I find this whole thing stupid. We shouldnt burn others beilefs just because someone did one wrong thing. You dont see people in other countrys burning our bible just because there not free as we are. The law does states freedom of speech but when it comes to burning someones beliefs you have gone to far. America is where people are free to have there own religion so there for I think this is stupid.

I think the burning of the Quran is a very bad idea. This is will only create more trouble between the Christian religion and the Muslim religion. Someone in the church should step up and realize how insane this idea is.

as a christian i know how id feel if someone did something or said something to offend my beliefs i get upset and confrentational. So there for to keep peace and un needed enemies we should not go through with this. I may not believe in their religion but gives no right to take this away from these people. It is part of america's great freedom that we have the right of religion and to worship as we wish in any form and no one should take anything of this nature away from anyone.

The Quran is a Holy book. Not for Christians, but a Holy Book all the same. I think that Pastor Jones should be ashamed of himself for even considering defacing the Quran. We all have rights as Americans, and Mr.Jones is completely disrespecting these rights. If a Muslim burned our Bible, we would be angry, I expect the Islamic portion to be angered as well. What Mr. Jones is doing would be an obvious act of stereotype. He is condemming all Islams as evil because of a select few, it is wrong.

  88. Allie

I feel that the Quran should not be burned because the majority of Muslims had nothing to do with 9/11. If the Quran was my holy book, I would be very offended by this action. The controversy is completely understandable, because the idea of burning the Quran is wrong. Do you think the church in Florida would like someone burning the Bible? No they wouldn't; so let’s be reasonable, and walk in someone else’s shoes.

Burning the Quran isn't right because burning the Quran is like them burning our Bible. We shouldn't burn it because thats what they believe in and its there opinion.

I dont think that the Quran should be burned. Everybody has different opinions & religions. No one has the right to burn someone elses belief. The Quran shouldn't be burned, its not fair to the people of that religious belief.

The burning of the quran is not going to solve anything, its only going to make things worse. This group obviously didn't think their plan through. Not only does this jepardize the lives of the troops but it highly offends America's muslim community.

i am pretty nuetral to the quran burning, but i have two sides to this issue! i feel that we should not be burning their holy book just because we do not believe in this religion. but i do believe that the musilum faith is wrong, based from my religion, but they have every right to worship as do i and thats there decsion. but i do not agree with the idea of burning the quran because it shames america and americans as a whole.

I think its not fair to them to burn what they beleive. Just because we don't beleive dosen't mean we can burn their book. I just don't think it's fair. I wouldn't want anyone to burn the holy bible which is what i beleive. So don't burn what they beleive.

I don't think that burning the Quran is a good idea. By burning the Quran, we are putting our troops as well as ourselves in danger. How would Christians react if the muslims were to burn the Bible? We would feel they were being very rude and disrespectful. Thats how they would feel if we were to burn the Quran. Its just not right. Everyone has there own religious beliefs. We should take a step up and respect what they believe, instead of burning what they believe. Burning the Quran won't fix anything, it will only make things worse.

I think it's absurd that someone would take their beliefs and what THEY think is right as far as to burn a book sacred to others. The people that read the Quran must be horrified! How would we feel if they burnt the Bible....not very good i tell you. Americans seem to forget everything soldiers have through to get at a place where we are today. I think burning a book sacred to others will only harm the good that has been done.

The burning of the quran is not right. We as people in this nation should not judge others by what they read or study. I understand that the church in florida is a christian community but as a christian myself, i've always believed that we should'nt judge others, only try to help direct them towards the right path. Burning the quran would only make them dislike us and show that we have no morals and concious as people.

I don't think we should burn the Quran, that is disrespectful to their religion. How would we feel if they burned the Bible or any other book like that. Plus it is putting our troops in danger. It is just not a good idea.

Although they have the right to freedom of speech, burning the Quran would be offensive to so many muslims. This could send the wrong impression of americans over in Islamic countries potentially harming our troops there.

What good would we get from burning the Quran? It is like burning what ever your religion's book. In this world everyone is suffering and needs enlightenment, so we don't need to take that away from them. No one can control their beliefs even if you burn the Quran, they won't change. So there's no reason to burn the Quran.

I do not support the Koran or muslim faith because i am a christian, but I don't believe that the church should publically burn the Koran. It will just cause muslim nations to hate america more and it could put us and our troops in danger. You can't force a religion on anyone, but you can try peacefully without causing people to be outraged.

I think that burning of the Qurans is not Fair. I think that the burning is not only an insult to the holy Qurans but to Islams and Muslims. No ones religous book deserves to be burned. That is their beliefs and no one should be able to intefere with them. What they believe is what they believe and you dont have to believe them but you shouldnt try to keep them from believing it.

We think that Pastor Jones is being disrespectful to Muslims throughout the world, including in America. It is evident that he hasn't fully thought about the consequences of his actions (and those of his church's) because he is risking the lives of others, especially those stationed in Afghanistan. We have family members serving in the military and we think it is wrong of him to endanger the lives of our families. Pastor Jones needs to put himself in the shoes of Muslims. He would be greatly offended if Muslims were putting on a show of buring the Bible.

I believe that Pastor Jones has every right to burn the Quran, just as Muslims have a right to burn the Bible or build a mosque near Ground Zero. However, that does not mean that it is wise and does not justify their actions. It is not right to burn a sacred book, even if you HAVE a right to do so. I believe Pastor Jones is being grossly irresponsible by burning the Quran.

    September 8, 2010 at 1:49 pm |

It's very offending to the Muslims throughout the world to burn there book of worship. It's disrespectful to be doing something so insulting to a certain religion. Burning the Quran is a really disrespectful act just to prove a point. Why not recycle if that church really does not like it. What if they burn that churches Bible. How would they feel. Freedom of religion means nobody can be prosecuted for their beliefs we can choose our beliefs. And shouldn't a pasture be kind to everyone and SET AN EXAMPLE to others. An important person or leader can affect a lot of people. And finally what is going to be the long term outcome, a religious war then maybe shootings. So why cause a religious war when we have a war in afghanistan i don't think we should start one that might grow.

    September 8, 2010 at 1:59 pm |
  161. christina

what I think about this is, it is so stupid why not let other people express them self's with their religion. It's there beliefs, its like saying i don't like what u believe in so I'm going to take away all ur bibles and burn them, now think about that would u like that?

    September 8, 2010 at 1:59 pm |
  162. Lauren

My opinion on the Quoran is that it is a very poor decision to make just to get a point across. There are several other ways to get it across to peple, such as a speech. One reason is becauses it will affect our US troops majorly because Muslims will be offended and radical Islamics will want o choose violence which will continue the war, not stop it.

    September 8, 2010 at 1:59 pm |
  163. Sarah

They shouldn't burn the Quran because it's disrespecting their religion, I'm Christian and i would be very very offended if they burned in protest my book of worship. No-one can stop them because of the freedom of protest but I believe that its wrong.

    September 8, 2010 at 2:02 pm |
  164. katie

i think you should NOT burn the Quran! its a free country, they should be able to pracice there own religion, just like others practice theirs. just like the Decleration of Independance say's, all men are equal. so why not muslims. no religion is better then another so muslims should have the same rights. and its not like burning the Quran will make it so they believe any thing els! so i think its a bad idea!

    September 8, 2010 at 2:02 pm |
  165. Angel

My opinion on the Quoran is that you shouldn't burn the books just to make a statement. To me, it's just like burning a ton of copies of the bible just so people wouldn't have it and choose violence to fight war. I think to get your point across and to let people hear what your trying to state then you shold think of a speech.

    September 8, 2010 at 2:02 pm |
  166. Josh

As i can understand the ideas that it is the church and Jones expressing their opinion, I think that burning the Quran will cause too much trouble in Afghanistan with our troops that are there. I also understand that this act is to try to suppress the Islamic extremists, but i believe that these extremists have not caused any trouble to us, so we should not be causing any trouble for them.

I think that you should let people believe what they want to believe in. People let me believe what I want to. So why won't they let others? Would YOU like that if someone did that to YOU??????

    September 8, 2010 at 2:06 pm |
  168. Sasha

In my opinion I don't think the people should burn the Quoran because buring just a few books to make a statement against Islamic extremeisist isn't going to stop them. That's just like someone buring Bibles because they don't like what some Christians have done. He won't get rid of all the books anyway, its all a waste and it will make radical Islamisists more mad. The other bad effect is the war in Afganistan will get worse and they will fight harder to kill our American soldiers. Leave it alone Pastor Jones!

    September 8, 2010 at 2:07 pm |

I think that people have free agency to what they want to believe in, and we shouldn't stop them, we believe in our own religions and if a person wanted to burn our bible how would we feel. Not good at all. We would totally be outraged and we might have a little war going on inside of the United States of America. Do we want to chance that happening. Also people moved here for freedom, and specifically the freedom of religion, why did we move here if we are still fighting with each other. It is written in the amendment that we have the freedom of speech and we should respect that, and that goes for everyone. I don't know why someone would want to burn Quran, but what did the people who believe in it do to you? Nothing, and if there is a problem just handle the problem legally, simple as that. I am personally not pleased that someone would even think of doing something like that, which clearly vilates the law and someone's rights. A person is here for a reason, and while they are here they needed to be treated like an American citizen, as long as they are legally here. If they aren't treated this way what are we showing to all of the other people and countries that are looking into the USA. We are showing that we aren't following our own laws, our own constitution and amendments. We are going way to far and we need to end this now. I think that some one should confront Pastor Jones and take him to the law, we shouldn't hide this but do this quickly so we don't have a problem with this religion. I ALSO HAVE A REPLY TO Zach. The constitution doesn't allow us to PRACTICE our religion, we can believe that. Just like the Utah people were pounded by the law, by polygamy, you can't practice your own religion, you can only believe in it. And that is my personal opinion on Pastor Jones burning the Quran.

I think its absolutely wrong that you would burn a holy book! I don't care what relgion it is, you're a pastor and you burnt a holy book, that is inconsiderate of other people's religions! How would you feel if someone burnt your Bible?! I don't think you would like it. So you shouldn't do it to others. Oh, adn by the way that goes against one of my values of, RESPECT. My religion is pentacostal, but I still think it's messed up.

I think that it is wrong in so many ways to burn the Quoran, I think its kinda funny that an American can disrespect the Islamic Quoran and not think twice about it but if anyone ever tried to burn an American flag to prove a oint, we wouldn't think twice about going to war but this pastor expect Muslims to just sit there and let him disrespect their religion. It's not right!

For me, I am a Christian and I would be really upset if someone burned the bible just because another religion believed they had the right to do it. I don't want to get blown up because this gyu wants to burn them. He is also going against his own relgion by being spiteful and not caring how he will effect us by his spiteful doings.

I think it is very wrong for people to burn the Quoran it is like a Bible to other people. What if someone said they were going to burn the Bible? DON'T DO IT!

I feel like this is not okay! I am a Christian and I would be heart broken if some one burned the bible. I believe everyone has their right to their religion. It shold be a crime to burn and disrespect another's religion.

Letter to a Soldier In Afganistan,
I'm not fully sure where you stand with the Quoran book burning, however, I have a clear opinion. I would disagree with the whole idea. It's sick and totally disrespectful to thier religion and beliefs. I heard a military general state it could endager our troops that have worked so hard, and are not at home. Why make anymore insult to a government/country/religion we want to bring democracy to? I hope you get home and that nothing happens to you.

I don't think what you're planning to do is RIGHT. I think by buring the Quoran it's like one last dig at Muslims. It would be like buring our bible. It's just not right and I firmly believe it's not fair. I'm enraged by the pastor even having the idea of burning the Quoran. I feel like they paid there dues. It wasn't all of them who bombed the Twin Towers. So why shold we make them suffer as well as our troops? Why put them in harm's way?

I highly disagree with the burning of the Quran. Dove Outreach shouldn't have a say so with other peoples beliefs. If that's the case people should be able to burn the bible. I don't think they should though. I'm not saying it's not alright to disagree with someones beliefs but they should at least respect them enough not to burn the Quran.

I am one of the many people who live here that think burning a Quran is a horrible thing. Not all of us want to burn a Quran. I think that burning a Quran is just like burning a Bible because Muslims have a similar belief to Christians because they believe in one God just like us. We should try to make peace not war.

My thoughts are that ,of course, Dove Outreach is wrong. Since they're the church, wouldn't they accept people and not try to turn them away? Every one should have freedom of religion. We shouldn't be the judge, because only God can judge us or anyone. I feel that Pastor Jones, if he were a true pastor, would try to get people to join the church. He can't do that if he's teaching people that freedom of religion is wrong.

Pastor Jones who is choosing to burn the Muslim Quran must not realize the destruction he is doing to our city. If he burns the Quran he will incite people throughout the world. Even though Pastor Jones may have the right to burn the Quran it doesn't make his decision right.
I live near Dove Outreach Ministries and it makes it harder for me and other people to be near or around such a grotesque event.

I believe that it is wrong that people would want to burn something that means so much to other people in the world. Why would the Dove outreach ministry want to burn the Koran. To me that’s like them burning the bible, and the preacher said that he not trying to degrade all of the Muslim only the ones that have done wrong. But in the eyes of others it seems like they are being bias. Another thing is that with him being a Christian he is sending out the wrong message to his followers. Also he has the world looking at the people in Gainesville like we are all bad, and that's not whats going on actually most of us are very open minded about about other culture and beliefs.

this whole burning the Quran event is ridiculous to me. I don't personally know a single advocate of it, yet it's causing problems and controversy all over the world, and it's not yet the day of the event. The message that is being sent, I don't think will be the one intended, and will cause no good to anybody. Burning a Quran is disrespecting a religion. Like in all religions, there are bad people and good people, and all of them have the right to believe what they want. Even if only the bad people are being targeted, the whole group is being impacted negatively.

In class right now we are learning about minority rights, and I believe it is a right of these people to be able to practice what ever religion they may choose. Although this is America and there is freedom of speech etc. I believe that burning the Quran is wrong and doesn't respect these people. There are other better ways for people to voice their opinions.

I believe that we are able to burn the Quran, but it is still a way of life for those Islamic people. The way we treat the Quran is like them burning the Holy Bible. Every culture needs to realize that we are all one just believing some things differently.

Hi Carl, While I was looking at the CNN student news, things about the Quran begin to slowly unravel. From the TV20 news to the student news i knew it must have been a serious issue on hand. Ibelieve that Islam should be left alone and the whole Quran thing. I just think that this a matter between GOD and them, but i also realize that this is very upsetting to the culture of religion, but who are we to judge. After all GOD does the overall judging.

The thing is, the Dove Outreach Center never got the burn permit. Also, burning the Qur'an is the only way to get rid of it after it gets damaged, according to Muslim beliefs. Meaning, they'll desecrate the Qur'an, then do the right thing to get rid of it, so they'll unknowingly be practicing Muslim beliefs!

Buring the Quran is innapropiate and inconsiderate towards other religons and cultures. Just because Islamic groups are being violent doesnt give anyone the right to destroy the Muslims people book of worship and religous rituals. They use this book in their day to day lives so why would you deprive someone of the right. I mean isnt it a given right of the government for the people to have the right to whatever religon the belong to?

burning the quran is a terrible thing to do. first of all, that pastor wasted so much money into ordering qurans. all he's going to do is cause more trouble and waste so much money just to burn the quran. it's just as bad as muslims burning the bible. they would never disrespect any other person's religion so why should americans disrespect their religion. and second of all, muslims are not terrorists or extremists. muslims are kind and believe in peace. i don't know why people call the terrorists muslims when real muslim believers don't even consider those terrorists of their religion. this act of burning qurans is a terrible idea and will cause the wrong impression of americans to everyone just because of one pastor.

i think this is a horrible idea because not only will this church be looked down upon by Islam, but it will set an image of everyone who is a Christian. that is not how Christians are supposed to act.

As a Christian, I would not be offended if someone decided to burn the Bible. I know what I believe, and my belief is not lessened by anyone's actions. I do not approve of the burning of the Quran, but at the same time, I respect the freedom of the people who choose to do so.
I do hope that all offended will realize this is a small group choosing to take this path of burning and not all Christians, and certainly not all Americans.

This whole idea of burning the Quran is crazy. That is not American this country was founded on the basis of religious tolerance and now what, a few people in one religious group messes up, so we blacklist and slander them for it? What's next we spit in their faces, that would be more polite and acceptable then burning their holy book. That church claims to be Christian, but is that something Jesus would do? No, he would show them love and compassion! Isn't it about time that the US does that! We are not fighting wars with other nations we are fighting each other too!

    September 8, 2010 at 4:21 pm |

I strongly disagree with the decision to burn the Quran. I am not a religeous follower myself, but i believe this church orginization is causing more problems than we as a country need to deal with. I'm sure there are families out there hurting from the 9/11 attack, but how do you take it as your responsibility to take retribution for these families. The minds are so hurt and blinded by our tragedy that we lose sight of right and wrong. By burning the Quran, they're not just burning it and its extemists. They're burning it and it's meaning to those who cherish it.

According to my religious beliefs (I am a Christian), the Quran is evil because it is against my God; BUT I do not think that burning it is a good idea. I don't think it's a good idea because frankly, I don't see what purpose it will serve. The pastor talks about "getting a message across", but just because you get a message across doesn't mean that the other side will listen to your message. I think it will just make them more angry, and you're basically insulting them. Since burning the Quran will do more harm than good, I don't think they should do it.

i believe that burning the Quran Controversy is wrong because everyone should be treated equally. Everyone is different and has different religions, so just because they are different doesn't mean that they should be treated differently.

First of all, burning a Quran is like burning the bible. It may have different views and opinions on how things started and how things were, but that is no reason to burn other religions bibles. There is nothing good coming out of this. The only thing it might do, is cause a war that none of us want to get into.

Let me tell everyone reading this; I AM A MUSLIM. Islam is a very peacful religion. I want everyone here to know that in Islam and in our Holy Quran it says that no matter what religion you are, if you love god and follow your religion correctly, you are promised paradise. Muslims don't hate anyone for their beliefs. The terrorists that have attacked us aren't REAL muslims. They call themselves muslims so that people will grow to dislike and even hate us. Their Holy book is not the Quran, so by burning the Quran, they are not burning their books or their beliefs, they're burning OURS! That just goes to show you how ignorant some people can be. I would never in a million years burn a Bible. Half of my extended family is Christian and I love and respect them and their beliefs. So why can't the rest of the world except us and our beliefs. Respect has to be and should be mutual.

Burning of the Quran should not be stopped. If it is not in your religion you have the right to do with it as you please, because it to you it is just another book. Should you get in trouble for burning a Harry Potter book?

    September 8, 2010 at 4:52 pm |
  230. Colton

There are already tensions between the muslim and christian religion, and this is just adding fuel to the fire. Also, why would you want to ruin the holy book of a religion. For self satisfaction? How will this affect the Muslims in the Middle East? The answer is it won't. They are just doing this to alienate the muslim religion, and I think that is wrong!

(This is a continuation of my previous comment.) It says in the constitution that they have the right to exercise their rights UNLESS they take another American's rights from them. Therefore, burning the Quran is unconstitutional. GOD will punish those burning the Quran and those who are in favor of it. We are all the people of GOD. They are EXTREMELY ignorant. NOT ALL MUSLIMS ARE TERRORISTS! THE TERRORISTS ARE NOT REAL MUSLIMS! ISLAM IS A VERY PEACEFUL RELEGION!

I believe that it is absurd. If the pastor says that he knows that the burning will draw negative attention and that he knows how others feel then he should respect their religion and not burn the Quran. If the bible was burned im sure that he would protest aginst it. It's like they say in school, " Treat others the way you want to be treated." The same goes for religion. Burning the Quran is like saying" I'm not trying to make all muslims mad, just most of them." I say that it is unfair and unjust.

As Americans, we have the right to burn whatever we want as long as it is our property. I don't agree with burning any religous book, but the church has the right to do it if they so please.
I can see from the interviews that the people of the church who are going to participate don't care what the world thinks of them and they're actions. They are trying to get they're point across, but it's not working in the way they wanted/expected.

They should definitely not burn those Qurans. Many Muslims are actually very good people and deserve the right to be respected. This also seems to be disrespectful because the church is making a big deal out of it.

Burning the Quran is a bad idea because if you burn something the Muslems and Islams REALLY care about in religion, they will take action against OUR religions and/or our country. It's like their God, the Holy Book of what brought them there. Would you like it if they burned all our Bibles and any other religion in America? I think we will all go mad and harm EVERYTHING that Muslems and Islams have. They are people like us and they should be respected too. We are all human, we are all one.

I honestly think this is totally wrong. I also see his side, but I agree more that it is wrong. There is freedom of religion in America. That means he honestly has the right to do that if that is his religion, but it is totally rude and disrespectful to the others. I also agree with nikki that it will probably draw some sort of terrorists to our country and we don't need that again. What I am trying to say is that is he is doing more right than wrong and HE JUST SHOULDN'T DO IT!

I think that burning the Qur'an is a very bad idea. That pastor is a horrible person. Burning the Islamic holy book is an unspoken evil to every single Muslim in the world. If it is meant to offend extremists, then fine, your intentions are good, but your actions aren't. I'm sure the Christian or Jewish populations wouldn't be very ecstatic if someone burned their holy scriptures, so why target the Muslims? This is wrong, I apologize on behalf of that pastor. Allah Ahkbar!

How is this man any different than Hitler? This is nothing but a hate crime. It is one thing to make a religious statement; it is a nothing to do something awful, and justify it through religion. They seem to forget the golden rule "Love thy neighbor as thy self." And he is also forgetting that when someone strikes you on the cheek, you don’t strike back, you turn the other cheek (Matthew 5:39). This really makes me ashamed of what my religion has come to.

This is completely outragous. Not all muslims are terrorist or extremists and it is a very peaceful religeon. This is about the equivalent of burning the Bible since they are both inportant holy books to their religions.

I think that the church in Florida that is planning to burn the Quran on September 11 is a bad idea. If they do this it will anger alot of Muslims that are good people and might prompt them to harm Americans in other countries and here in America. I understand the anger people have towards the Extremist Radical Muslims, but this action would affect all the Muslim people.

    September 8, 2010 at 5:19 pm |

I can see both sides. On the one side, to Christians, Islam is not true and will end someone in to the lake of fire. But that does not mean burning the Quran. On the other side, burning it goes against the constitution of the U.S. and it will cause trouble with what other country's think of us. It also goes what Christians are taught in the Bible. Hhmm maybe the these Christians did not understand God word or they didn't read it. This also giving Christians a bad name.

its so idiotic. just because a group of very stupid and retarded Muslims made a HUGE mistake and caused a global crisis, why should all of Islam be punished? i go to a school with high expectations, i am in all of the highest classes. whats your opinion of me? now add Muslim, what now??? its stupid to burn my religions holy book. its INSANE. its against all rights. why make up all these amendments when u are going to break them to get a point that Muslims are bad? why would i be bad? my God doesn't influence crime and hatred but, those stupid people that caused 9/11 thought so.

I belive the burning of the quran would be a bad idea we are all entiteled to our own beliefs and burning the quran is EXTREAMLY disrespectful to Islamics and will only draw up bad blood between us. That pastor and that church would be very rude and I'd like them to think what it would feel like to have all their beliefs their holy book burned to ashes. Would they not be upset, I think this church and pastor should think about what it would be like if they were on the other side of this situation and think before they act.

its stupid and idiotic to think that those people from 9/11 were true Muslims. they are stubborn and are reading the Quran the way they want to read it, with hatred. they were blocked from the truth and started making everyone else believe what they said was legit, but its not. i myself celebrate Islam. i am saddened by the fact i even have to be on this blog. i have high expectations in school and life, i am at the top of my class. yet for some reason, and that being me being a Muslim, i am not treated with happiness and respect. the definition of terrorist: Some one that causes fear. no where in that sentence do i see the word "Muslim". i am proud to say that "MY NAME IS FARIDAH AND I AM NOT A TERRORIST"

I think that burning that Christians burning the Quran would be like Muslims buring the Bible, i dont think its right to burn it. If we burned the Quran, it would show we dont care at all about them and their religion.

oh and Jonny B. please explain, cause u are making no sense. its not JUST a book. its our way of life and the book of our God. Harry Potter books are stories and lies and fibs. but in a holy book, there lies true mystery and hope in mankind.

thanks KID, but let them burn it. they r all going to get it back in the end one way or another. God is all-mighty. there is only one true God. Christians and Muslims worship the same God if u haven't realized that. we just called him another name and worship to him differently

Burning something that is holy to a religion is just flat out awful. How is disrespecting someone else fall under any of our christian values? I have read in many news articles that many muslim leaders believe that if those muslim extremists were actually abiding by the rules and values of the Quran, they would not be out there doing the things they do. People need to realize that the first amendment grants the freedom of religion to EVERYONE in this country, not just themselves. What gives us the right to burn what is so precious to people that we share our country with? In my opinion, they should actually try to consider what is not best for themselves, but instead what is best for others. They should not disrespect other religions, they should pick up a book and learn a little bit about them.

I would like to ask these questions to Mr.Pastor Terry Jones.
What would you do if all the Muslims throughout the world celebrated a day called"International Burn Bibles & cross day" on the day of Christmas? What if they thought that the message they are tying to send to the world is much more important then people like you being offended? What would your actions be?Do you think the Muslims people action might be similar to your action?
How would you feel if they shot a bomb at the church? We really don't want to lose our loved ones again.
please rethink all of this.Osama bin laden didn't think twice before destroying the twin towers,as a result most of his country is destroyed today.I hope you don't make the same mistake.9 11 pretty much changed everything in USA! The United States used to be the most wealthiest country in the world, but not anymore.Countless people cant buy or do things because of the economy.A lot of children/teens had to grow up in poverty. So now we hate a Muslim even before we know them.
When we think about the word Islam, middle east comes in mind most of the time, but have you ever thought that there might me Muslims in other parts of the world. What would they think of this?Have you ever considered what country was your cloths, your food & other stuff were made in or who it was made by?Next time after you buy something please check the label!
However I don't blame him for being so angry at the Islam!I understand how it feels to have lost somebody that you love in 9 11 & feeling unsafe all the time. Most of us feel the same way.
America is already in bad shape & we don't want any more destruction! Please don't start it again,a lot of people wants to live in peace!

I think that it is wrong for a paster to do this and endanger our troops. this staement is causing them to burn the christian bible and american flags how wpuld he like that.

    September 8, 2010 at 6:08 pm |
  262. Benjamin

The people who bombed in 9-11 might be extremists, yes, BUT, I'm shore that the terrorists bombing the Twin towers is not associated with the religion. Also, it is stated in the Declaration of Independence that we are not making a religion specified to the Country or shunning it.

    September 8, 2010 at 6:08 pm |
  263. Tori

I don't think that it's right for this church to pick out a certain religon that they think is wrong. Personally I don't agree with many religions, but i don't go out and burn their bibles. And also, how would this people feel if the Islamic people came and burned all of their bibles?

    September 8, 2010 at 6:09 pm |

I think the decision these people are trying to make is not wise because there will be problems in the future for people on the streets and the troops

    September 8, 2010 at 6:10 pm |
  265. Sarah

I think that you shouldn't burn the Quran is not a good decision because that would cause conflict here between religions and in Afghanistan. And we can't just burn the Quran because even if you don't have the same beliefs as someone else, you shouldn't destroy their beliefs and book, it's just not right.

I believe it is VERY disrespectful... no religious man would do such a thing. Isn't one of the founding principals "do unto others as you would like to be treated?" most of America would be outraged of they began burning Bibles. They would feel the same. Its very inmature for him to do this. They're only going to come right back... America cant afford another terrorist attack.

I want to know whatever happened to Freedom of Religion? It's hard to believe how uneducated people can be. Aiming to the Extremists? The extremists aren't even catagorized as Muslims. We look down on those people, so why burn OUR Quran? They, technically speaking, don't even have a book. This really breaks my heart. I was born & raised in the United States, and have every single right that Christian Americans have. Freedom of Religion, remember that?

    September 8, 2010 at 6:29 pm |
  270. Keenan

I think that it is nice to see Americans standing up for what they believe in, but burning the Quran is taking it a step to far. Even though the protest is aimed at Islamic extremists, I'm sure this protest will make all Muslim/Islamic people feel uncomfortable and angry. It would be like burning the Bible. This protest also could (and probably will) increase tensions in the Middle East, which could spill disaster for the troops stationed there (including some of my family members).

    September 8, 2010 at 6:30 pm |
  271. Dalia

As a muslim, I am extremely offended by this act. My whole faith is getting treated badly for the acts of a few. I believe the church needs to take into consideration that this will only evoke more violence and casualities of american soldiers. The Quaran is our Holy book. You've never seen a mosque burning the Bible or Torah, so what is the reason for this act of ignorance?

    September 8, 2010 at 6:37 pm |
  272. Arielle

i think they should not be burning the Islamic bible. How would we like it if they burned are bibles(old testament,Torah,Buddhist beliefs).I would not appreciate it.Burning the quran is wrong its like going against what America believes in,and doing this is not going to help us as one.here we are tiring to end this fight and we are doing this.

I think it is a bad idea the Islamic people on 9/11 where not every single Islamic person in the whole inter world. It's also a stupid idea because Islamic people could get very offended

Melissa, your comment really made me laugh. Our religions are actually not that different. We are most definately not against Jesus, we just don't call him our God, instead he is a messanger of God (a.k.a Prophet). We love him, just as we love every other prophet. We just believe that there is the one & only God. Nobody knows what he looks like. I just wanted to inform you about this, since nobody has told you this. ☺

I don't think this is a good idea at all! I wonder if they realize that by buring the Quran how it will affect so many people in a negative way!

We have no more right for our churches to se burnt done than their Quran. They shouldn't do it. Follow the Golden rule.

    September 8, 2010 at 6:46 pm |
  277. Andrew

Just because you have the right to do something doesn't mean that you doing something is right. A lot of Islamic people have nothing to do with 9/11. The terrorists were on a branch of the group far away from the main tree, if you get my picture. Just because your mad at somebody who did something, doesn't mean you should do something that will make them mad. That's not what America is about, that's not what leadership is about, that's not even what CHRISTIANITY is about. Doing this is wrong and will not do anything but harm others.

    September 8, 2010 at 6:49 pm |
  278. Dalton

I think not because it's their Bible and if i saw some one burning the Bible i would be sad and upset. So why do it to them? It makes me think of that rule – treat people how you want to be treated.

  279. Lexci

I believe that burning Quran will cause alot of hatrid and controversy between Americans and Muslims. I think another "9/11" is more likely to happen if we provoke them by buring their sacred 'guidance' it will only make them angry and want revenge. We shouldn't live in the past we should try to move forward by making America a better and safer place to live.

I think that is mean !I mean i know there is a freedom of speech and everything but WHY? Why burn it !? Are ya'll crazy this can start a war on the other side of the world ??!!! You don't want no body burning up the bible that chrsitan use or any other bible so dont burn that one!!

    September 8, 2010 at 7:05 pm |
  281. Annie

I don't agree with the burning of anyones sacred books. It isn't going to make a point, it's only going to anger the Islamic people more, possibly creating more of the extremists that they are trying to stop.

....wow first racism now burning bibles?not only is this making america and other countries look bad this is harming muslims i'm really offended. What if a muslim church burned bibles or torah we would have been furious and call them terrioists all over again. No offense but that church is what is making me want to call THEM terrioists...

  285. Daniel

Burning the Quran can wreck the religous lives and beliefs of many Muslums of the world. I believe everyone wants the freedom of believing whatever they want, even through some countries don't have it. If the Muslums are going to do something from the Quran that might be too extreme for the United States, we'll just need to be ready for whatever may come.

    September 8, 2010 at 7:20 pm |
  286. Marcos

I think it is a bad idea. It will just make people mad. This is not the message we want to send to the middle east. This will just put the soilders in a dangerous position. If you do not like the book then do not read it nor buy it.

it's like a few kids at school that were wearing blue bombed a school....ok then when the school was fixed and every thing was back under control everybody started blaming every kid who wore blue.thats so unfair if you didn't know there are about 800,000 muslims in new york city dnt you think that they lost family members!(by the way i'am muslim i just like the name lola )

    September 8, 2010 at 7:28 pm |

I think that burning the Quran just because people are from the same country as the people who started 9/11 is just wrong. Also, I agree that doing so will put the U.S. troops in danger. I have friends who are muslim and I know that they definetely think that this is wrong as well.

I think burning the religous books of another religion is rediculous! Why would you do that to someone eles? What if the Islam people burned bibles, they would definatly be stopped! Why not these Christian people. It wouldnt help anything. What are they trying to prove? In Afganastain this is not going to help the peace efferts! Come on people! USE YOUR HEADS!

Why should we show the muslims any compassion. They apearently do not care about us. As in they are build a mosque at the site of a great American tradgedy that was caused by them. In my opinion the only way for us to get back at them is to use the same freedom agains them that they are using against us.

    September 8, 2010 at 8:12 pm |
  294. Maggie

Burning the Quran is an act that is not only offensive to Muslims, but is a violation of a basic American principle: the right to religion. This disrespectful act that is aimed at specific extremists will offend all people of their religion and disgrace Americans.

    September 8, 2010 at 8:14 pm |
  295. David

How can anybody believe burning the Quran would help in any way shape or form? Nothing good will come of it because not only it would offend one of the major religious groups in the USA it would also invigorate the Terrorists in Afghanistan which would cost more lives of our troops and it would also lower the Global perspective of America! Plus their putting their own lives at risk because the Muslim extremist's didn't let Family Guy poke fun at their religious beliefs so how do you think they will react when you burn their version of the Bible?!
I can't possibly how you arrived at the conclusion "OH! Lets burn the sacred texts of one of the most influential religious groups and indanger our lives by doing so in an effort to do some good!"

    September 8, 2010 at 8:15 pm |

The preacher in Florida may believe he is doing the right thing however if I could talk with him I would ask him to look at this from the Muslims point of view. How would he feel if they burned his Bible?
It makes me so sad when people don't Try to understand the "enemy". All of these groups of people who have done things like this, haven't tried to understand or to open their hearts and minds. Things like this are fueled by hate and that's all they get back. So, what does that achieve?
There is no merit for burning the Qua-ran. Why not just have your opinion and leave the Muslim holy book alone.

    September 8, 2010 at 8:29 pm |
  299. Angie

People like him make me feel so ashamed of living here. True they were aiming this gesture at the extremists but it still hurts the other Muslims in our country today!! They would not go around burning Bibles!!!

That's just plain wrong. That stupidity could cause another thing like 9/11.

    September 8, 2010 at 8:36 pm |
  302. Katherine

To burn the Koran, would put the troops in more danger, but also it would a fend a lot of people here, people that are on our side in the war. To burn the Koran would be like them burning our holy book. It is true that 9/11 hurt a lot of people, does it seem right or justified to anyone to burn them. Would we like it if someone burned our holy book in another country, NO! We'd think their wrong for doing that. So the people that want to burn them should think how they would feel about that if it was them and their beliefs being a fended. Freedom of Religion is in place here in the U.S.A. and it shouldn't be corrupted no matter what people think.

Disgraceful, malicious, unnecessary, inappropriate, dangerous.. all of these words represent Pastor Terry Jones desultory and premeditated decision to burn the handbook and religion of Islam through burning Qurans in remeberence of the Muslim initiated attacks on September 11, 2001. This topic has gotten the interest of many military, governmental and political protagonists about the unnecessary and irrelevence of this burning of the books. Even our commander general in Afganistan has warned Jones about the dangers he poses to troops overseas.
I feel this decision of reprisal and vengeance proves no justified points, and only reillustrates Americas widespread epidemic of "Islamophobia". I dont beleive Jones would approve of a similar collective burning of the Bible, because it shows disrespect to the religion and its people. I believe every one has a jusified right to practice their own religion, regardless of its unapproval from other religions. This event should be reconsidered, because again, it posses only redundance and objection to religion. This should be reevaluated and approched in a more commendable behavior, rather than in fire.

I watched the news cast on the burning of the Quran. I think it’s a shame to burn something that is so close to someone’s religion. It is not the Quran that was the reason for 9/11; rather, it was the select Islamic extremists who did it. These people are simply cowards, and their actions cannot be generalized to all of the people who believe in the teachings of the Quran. It is believed that most people who believe in the teachings of the Quran are peace loving people, just like any other religion in the US. I believe in the qualities such as: Love, Patience, Forgiveness, Selflessness, and Dutifulness. Hope Mr. Pasture Terry Jones thinks twice and understands the consequences of his proposed burning of the Quran, and changes his mind and opts for peace in the world.

    September 8, 2010 at 8:56 pm |

America is about freedom of religon, if they burn the book then that ruins the spirit of America. And it will cause problems for our Islamic soldiers in Afghanistan.

I don't think it would be right to burn the quran. If we do it could hurt us all. It would hurt us by the military being there in islamic land. and they could easily start a revolt and hurt a lot of people and our land physically. and there is no reason to burn it. it is like were blaming the whole nation for something a few like 60 did. i don't think it is right to burn the quran.

    September 8, 2010 at 9:03 pm |

I think the Quran should not be burned because it is a part of some peoples religion. I think that Pastor Jones would not be acting like this if the Muslims were burning the bible. I think that it is not fare because if we burn the Quran we are just risking he lives of the soliders in Afganistand. If Pastor Jones really cares about the soliders and people serving everywhere and our families then he would not burn the Quran. Pastor Jones needs to put himself in other peoples shoes and there families shoes who are serving.

I don't think it's very fair for them to burn the Quran. That's like some country burning the bible. It's disrespctful. They are only doing this because of the whole 9/11 incedent. Just because some one did a stupid mistake doesn't mean the are going to do it again.

    September 8, 2010 at 9:12 pm |
  311. Seth

That is a horrible, horrible thing to do! It's unamerican. Freedom of religion is a basic American right and burning the Quran violates it. The pastor said he wasn't aiming it at at the Islamic religion in general but he is. If there is a group of German extremists is he going to burn bibles? I think not.

    September 8, 2010 at 9:27 pm |
  312. Nathan

I believe that burning the Quran will send the wrong message to Muslims. America just does not respect anyones religious beliefs any more. What happened to religious freedom? If the Muslims worship in a different way than other religions, I think it should not be a very big deal. Plus, the troops in Afghanistan may suffer from the message that the preacher burning these books sends to the Muslims. He is upset and angry, and does not care about the rest of the Americans or Muslims. He is so unpatriotic towards his country. September 11th is supposed to be regarded as a time of mourning, not Quran burning!

    September 8, 2010 at 9:28 pm |
  313. Anonomus

Its really stupid to burn the quarn. Even if you burnt every quarn in the world, theres millions of poeple who know it by heart! It dosent send a message, it just makes people mad. You dont see muslims burning bibles to "send a message" now do you?

    September 8, 2010 at 9:29 pm |

I dont think they should burn it .Because how would you feel if they started burning the holy bible on christmas?

    September 8, 2010 at 9:34 pm |
  315. Nathan

I think it is incredibly sutipid to burn the Quran. We are a nation that prides ourselves on freedom of religion, so just because others may believe in a different religion does not give someone else the power to burn a book containing religious policies. Plus, if this pasture burns the Quran, he will be endangering hundreds to thousands of troops, but no
!!!, he will not have to pay for it. If people are angry, they should find an alternative way to vent his or her emotions. Burning the Quran is not appropriate, and this pasture is very unpatriotic towards his country and americans, especially on September 11th

    September 8, 2010 at 9:35 pm |
  316. Opall

Burning a Quran is the equivalent of burning a Bible. If Muslims did this to us, we would be angry. So doing this to them wouldn't help anything. Burning Qurans is also putting U.S soldiers in danger. People might take their anger out on the U.S soldiers. Burnings Qurans is a very ignorant decision.

If the Pastor does this, not only will our reputation will be in danger, but many lives too. I understand he is trying to stand up, and speak out, but this is not the way to go. It is disrespectful, and rude. The church is called "Dove Outreach Church". A dove is a symbol of peace, and it is trying to spread it right? Well, burning Qurans is TOTALLY not spreading peace. Ok, so some Islams decided to be terrorists, and attacked. If he burns those Qurans for revenge or something, what he is doing is no better. This will just start a chain of revenge, and tension, and violence, and that is certainly not peace. I think the Pastor needs to put himself in everyone's shoes. Look at the outcomes. Maybe read these comments. I think what he is doing is indeed a sin.

    September 8, 2010 at 9:46 pm |
  319. Emily

I think it is a really bad idea. If the church continues on with this, it may trigger another world war. Really, if people like Hillary Clinton and Angelina Jolie are denouncing the idea, why doesn't the pastor of this church stop this potential monstrosity. By trying to protest the Islamic extremists, this pastor is behaving like an extremist himself.

The minister is being a hypocrite. He says he is fighting radical religion, but on the other hand burning people's holy book. He's fighting fire with fire, and he's going to get himself and a whole bunch of other people burned.

Burning Quran is offensive for the Islam.
Eventhough they kill many people in the 911,

I think even though the Koran for some people might be of a different religon it doesn't mean we shouldn't respect it and it's people just as we would any other person we would meet anywhere. I agree that this rally should be stopped because it is causing problems for the safety of our troops. I hope that this pastor will come to his sences before the rally so he dosen't hurt our troops and ofend the people who belive in the Koran.

more bombings more shootings and longer time we will have to be in Afghanastan.

Burning the Quran is basically adding fuel to an already raging fire. Although the protest is aimed at radical Islam, the Quran is used by al Muslims; therefore, this protest will ultimately offend more than intended. If a group of Muslims burned a pile of Bibles as an insult to only Lutherans, all Christians would probably be just as offended. However, this is legal and there is nothing stopping the protest as long as it doesn't turn violent (which would be against the law). This is a freedom we have in America, and we can do nothing to stop it.

Not all Muslims are terrorists, and not all terrorists are Muslims. Although the 9/11 extremists may have been Muslim, what if they had been Christian? Would you burn Bibles? This burning is wrong in so many ways. Even though I do not necessarily believe what they believe, I would never purposely offend them for the sake of a few terrorists. What happened to freedom of religion? This is unfair treatment of Muslims. The attack wasn't their fault.

Burning a religion's holy book is no way to play nice, and with many of our troops still over in areas that practice our religion, I can't say it's a very good idea for our very own radicals to poke at the fire.

i'm a muslim and i disagree with the idea of burning the quran. its not right and only put danger for the troops overseas in danger. the quran is our holy book sent from the lord to guide us in this world it is disrespectful to burn it just because of sept 11 not all musluim or if any contruited to 9/11. and if some did that is because they arent true muslims because in the holy quran it doesnt state that kill inncent people is lawful so burning the quran isnt the solution. it just makes things worst for everyone.

Personally i think that buring the Quran is wrong. The priest claims that the burning of the Quran is only directed to the Islamic extremist, but what about the other muslims that believe in it also? Did he ever think how it may affect them and their views on Americans? How would he feel if some one just decided to burn the Bible? Plus what about the troops who are still over seas? Burning the Quran could have a huge impact on our soldiers lives, which will cause more fighting and more soldiers dead. Also, the priest claims that the message of burning the Quran is more important than the feelings of the people who are going to be offended by this action, doesn't make any sense to me. No offense, but this priest has lost his mind. It's people like him who make people from other contries disappointed in "the American dream". We're suppose to live in this country with freedom and peace, and believe in what ever religion we want to, not go around burning other religions "Bibles".

I believe that the Quaran has every right to be burned. Have we all forgoten 9/11?I remember the horror of watching that on T.V. They are over their burning the American Flag and chanting "Death to America." Why should they have the right to do that? Some people say this is wrong and that it is taking away their "freedom of religion." They aren't taking away freedom of religion from Islamic people. I don't see how this is stopping them from practicing their religion. If this is stopped, it is taking away the freedom of religion from the church beause burning the Quaran is their religion. I do admit it is going to create anger, but it is what they get for the 9/11 attacks and building a mosque on top of it like a victory flag. They asked for it. And other Islamics who are innocent, you should't be mad at the pastor for burning Quarans, you should be mad at Bin Laden. This is all his fault!

This is a free country!! I can't belive anyone would burn something like a bible of an other religion because they're against that religion and say things like "We're not offending the other religion community in our country." It's really a tragedic happening that there are still people out there who think their religion is the best and that they are offending(or "warn" that they say) other religions by burning something so precious to them in massive volumes. What they think, that's free and vice versa!! I think this is so not right and should be stopped immediately.

As a Christian I believe burning the Quran would be a terrible mistake for many reasons.

I have Muslim friends and I've studied religion. More Christians should educate themselves about other faiths. I hear many Christians say ignorant and untrue things about Muslims. It's sad that so many believe these outright lies. And, it's this lack of knowledge that perpetuates the cycles of hate and violence.

From what I've learned, here are some real facts:
    1) The Quran contains parts of the Old and New Testament. So, a Christian that burns the Quran is also destroying parts of their own Bible!
    2) Muslims and Christians (and Jews also) share a lot of similar beliefs. Mainly we all worship and believe in the SAME GOD (although each uses a different name).
-Our religions all teach peace and tolerance. Jesus and Muhammed both encouraged followers to help the poor and less fortunate.
-The 3 religions all have the same origins. They differ in a few areas, mainly whether or not Jesus was the Messiah (although Muslims still believe he was a good man and agree about the facts of his life. But, they believe Muhammed was the final prophet).
-Jews and Christians also disagree on similar points. But, I know many Christians that show religious tolerance and compassion toward Jewish people while they simultaneously scorn and belittle Muslims. It hurts me to see such intolerance.
-The few differences in beliefs are not something we should hate, kill, and fight each other over! I don't think many people are going to be convinced to convert to another religion through force, discrimination, or burning of religious symbols!
    3) Throughout history the name of God or religion has been used to encourage violence (war, terrorism, crusades). But, these people are not true believers! They are extremists, fundamentalists, terrorists, and just really messed up people that twist religious doctrine to suit their purposes.

I don't believe any of the Al-Quida terrorists were encouraged by Islam or God to commit their horrific acts. Similarly, I don't believe Timothy McVey (the Oklahoma City bomber, that claimed he was a Christian) was told by OUR SAME GOD to commit acts of terror either! Violence is not encouraged by either faith.
(*BTW, I would love for CNN to reair the "God's Warriors" segment they did a few yrs back. It also highlights this point.)

So really burning the Quran or any other act of discrimination against Muslims only gives more ammunition to terrorists and further divides the citizens of this country when we should be standing together to repair our nation.

I think burning the Qu'ran is an insensitive and ineffective way of getting your message heard. I understand that the church is angry about 9/11 and Islamic extremists but to target the whole religion is unjustified.

I think the burning of the Quran is outrageous. How is it fair that Muslims are generalized as terrorists?! Every religion has people who have done something bad but you don't see anyone burning THEIR holy books. It is wrong because throughout the world we are trying to spread peace and not ignorance. And he is just being ignorant, because people are allowed to believe what they want to believe. We are trying to have good connections between Muslims and Christians and here they are trying to sever them and they are putting all Americans all over the world at risk. Besides, it has been 9YEARS sine 9/11, i think it is time to move on. It isn't Muslim peoples fault that some people are disgracing there religion. They cannot do this. It is really shameful.

We shouldn't burn someone's religious book just because of a few radicals. We say "we" because they are a part of our country, and in turn others might hold us responsible for something we don't believe in. Our class believes that revenge is childish, and it doesn't accomplish anything. It just causes additional problems. We think that it will hurt those that are peaceful. We will be blamed for the extremist in our country, just as some blame all for extremist in other countries. After studying the Bill of Rights, we all have Freedom of Religion but the people in Gainesville, FL need to be respectful of other religions as well. Its funny how such a small group of people can cause so much harm.

It is a horrible idea to burn the Quran. The Quran is the same thing to the Muslim religion as the Bible is to the Christian religion. Also, Muslims and Christians worship the same God, they just call him by a different name. So wouldn't a Christian burning the Quran be disrespecting their own God? And the terroist thing...if 1 muslim is a terreorist, does that make the rest? No.
And any American that would want to do this! This country was built on the freedom to have your own beliefs and religion. And that is how it shall stay.

I'm born and raised in America but i am also a proud MUSLIM. All i have to say is burning the Quran or the Torah or the Bible would be the dumbest thing ever done. God may forgive you for drinking and going to church on sunday, but Allah will not forgive anyone who burns His words. I am honestly terrified on how this may affect my safety here in the U.S. I also understand that yes, any u.s. citizen has the right to assemble, freedom of speech, but we also have the utmost freedom of religion and i honestly hope my Islam brothers and sisters all over the world can approach this situation as calmly and rationally as i am. Oh and by the way, these words are aimed directly at Pastor Terry Jones... i hope you know what the term ricochet means because i am positive this will backfire and i hope all of it goes back to you leaving the 'normal' citizens of the U.S. in a safe and peaceful environment.

I just read Johnny B.'s post. I HIGHLY disagree. The Quran is not just another book. It is a way of life. Are you christian, Johnny? If you are, how would you feel if a muslim burned your bible? Also, the man who wants to burh the Quran is a christian. He believes in the same God as Muslims do. I would laugh at how utterly stupid this all is if it wasn't so serious.

I think this Quran burning is a bad idea. This will not help anything. It will only make things tense for the United States and will not give us a good rep with the Middle East. Also this won’t help the troops staying in Iraq at all. If anything violence will increase, and with the end of Ramadan on the same day……..i really don’t think this is good. If they want to protest find either a different day to do it or just find a different way to do it. There are many other ways to protest things. This won’t benefit anyone and it will cause more hurt than good. This is no different than burning a Bible or a Baptismal font or Hymnal, it’s the same difference. Honestly you won’t do anything to the radical Muslims by doing this, they already hate Christians and western society………..all this is going to do is make them hate us more and make them fight more in protest. This is simply a terrible idea.

I do not think they should burn the Quran. Our first Amendment protects the right to freedom of religion. The Quran is the Muslims’ book of worship. If they do burn the Quran its saying that we don’t except other religions in our country. People come to America to escape persecution. If they burn the Quran what kind of message is that saying? By burning the Quran it’s telling Muslims they cannot worship their God, nobody shouldn’t be able not worship their God.

islam rules and beliefs is a brick wall against sept 11 crime as well as these 50 people representing no one but devilish saitins.
america is higher than this, as well as islam, and christianity.
this center should take place at its location and should present the true islam and not fall for who ever is trying to differentiate between humanity, create faulse stories to promote the idea, and raise religious conflicts that serves no one but the devil it self.
islam is a proud and peaceful religion, and how ever is representing it in different way is considered to be not a muslim.
haters are ever where, and the reason why they are who they are is because they never bothered to search for the truth behind islam.

While I agree with Rev. Terry Jones on most of his beliefs, I strongly disagree with his choice of action. I do not understand how burning the Quran can benefit anyone in anyway. Burning the Quran will only cause more problems to our already chaotic situation on dealing with the Muslim religion and terrorism. Must we be reminded that it was the terrorists of Islam, not their religion that caused 9-11?

I think burning the Quran is just plain wrong! it's the same as Muslims burning to Holy Bible because we're in the war with Iraq. The Muslim people didn't cause 9/11 it was the terrorists, they just happen to be Muslim. I feel like the Quran had nothing to do with 9/11 it was the people who did it.

I believe that we shouldn't burn the Quran. Just because we don't believe in what they do doesn't mean we should start burning things. Think of it this way; How would you like it if Muslims burned The Bible or your book of worship, just because of what a bad group of muslims did to America. That's called stereotyping, people. Not very smart.

Okay, so I see the dangers of extreme Islam but burning their holy book is definetly not the way to go with this. I'm not a particularly religous person, but I know that there are going to be a lot of very upset Muslims all over the world if they go through with it.

Burning the Quran is like burning the bible. It is there holy item like the bible is mine. If the Quran is burned it also could cause an attack on are army or the U.S. people. It also cause people in different countrys to think we have no repect for other people's worship.

I myself am a Christian girl. I think that this is ridiculous, not only is this very offending to Islamic people across the world, I have a feeling this will set of a spark in the mind of some terrorists, they are giving a bad image to Christians and Americans. This is defiantly un-American and un-Christian.

I think burning the Quran is the worst thing to do. Its like some coming up to you and burning your religions Bible.

    September 9, 2010 at 6:49 pm |
  392. Allie

I think burning the Quran is wrong! It's just like the Muslims burning the Holy Bible! Just because the terrorists who caused 9/11 were Muslim doesn't mean we should blame the Muslim people for 9/11. Not only could this cause problems for our soldiers in Iraq. But I believe we as Americans should be above that behavior.

I can't belive anyone would burn something like a bible its wrong to burn the quran.it's basically adding more fire to the oil spill! it just makes America look worse than the crisis were already in. And it gives us a bad reputation for Americans. It was the Al Queda who did it not the regular Muzlems and I think we schould respct what we did. Everyone needs to remember Freedom of Religion.

I don't know whats up with that pastor but burning the koran is wrong. Christianity and being a US citizen is al about being accepting and THATS not accepting!

  395. Seth

The burning of the Koran would only cause more problems for our troops and those doing the burning. The pastures lies are pathetic, its frustrating that our president would even address the matter. Why should the mosque not be built at ground zero, its not like Muslims are radicals, only about 1%. Also, those who lost their lives in the 9/11 attack where from many different races and religions... even Muslims.

    September 9, 2010 at 7:14 pm |

Burning is just wrong i think that they shouldn't do that. Doesn't mean we don't believe in it, means we have to burn it.

Seriously...Christianity has been under fire for some time and now that things are calming down this happens.Things like this make me question my religion. (Christianity) The Bible teaches us everyone is equal and that all religions are to be respect. Not only is it stupid but it is endangering our troops. If they go through with it at anytime its gonna start a whole new wave of hatred and fighting.

If we told a bunch of Muslims that they couldn't burn a bible, we'd never hear the end of it. Here we go again conforming to the likes of Muslims. I'm not saying it's the best way to show their emotions, but it's that church's right.

Why would you want to burn there Quran? It's like a bible to them. you don"t see me going around burning other peoples religous things. people who want o\to burn the Quran is STUPID. THAT'S RIGHT JUST PLAIN STUPID

i think that we should not burn the quran because our country was built on religous freedom and are right to choose to belive. burnig the quran would be a statement of censorship.and as Americans we have the right toread what we choose and to express or selves.

You know, people really need to think before going out and burning someones bible. Just because Muslims are a little different in appearance and worship we don't need to burn any Qurans. We all live in the USA and we are all made the same on the inside. Sure, 9/11 was a very devastating thing, I know that, but these are not the same people. Its one thing to respect and remember your past but it is another to burn the Qurans just because the terrorists who caused 9/11 were Islamic. I very strongly dissaprove of this and i hope the people who are doing this think a little and realize they are doing somthing really disrespectful and wrong.

    September 9, 2010 at 7:39 pm |
  402. Timi

The idea is very inconsistent with the goal it is trying to reach. Terrorist groups are not afraid; nor are they people who will respond to this act with obedience. If people with no links to terrorism are getting mad at the idea of this happening, then terrorist, who are generally extremist, will get even more upset. They will not stop, they will retaliate. It is supposedly in hopes of being a factor in prevention of terrorism, but it has a much higher probability of being a factor in the instigation of it.

    September 9, 2010 at 7:40 pm |

Burning the Quran will just cause a controversy. People will protest against the idea and there will be outbreaks of violence. It's not worth it.

I feel there is no need to burn the Quran. They are doing the wrong thing buring it. The pastor might not to do it the goverment might get on this case.

    September 9, 2010 at 8:08 pm |

Burning of the Quran is a terrible idea and is completely unnecessary, it's other people's religion, that's just like someone else in a outside country declaring that they are going to burn the Bible. Besides this is 9 years later after 9/11, why now? They said that they are not meaning to target people, but by doing this they are indirectly doing so. Everyone understands that we should remember those on 9/11 and mourn for our lost ones, but this doing is not going to bring that back, it's also seems like revenge. But what they don't realize is the danger they are putting everyone in. We have hundreds of soldiers in afghanistan and other countries, who do you think they are going to take their anger out on? Besides this pastor is pretty much setting the US for more bombings.

The burning of the Quran is most certainly not the answer. Most people of the Muslim faith would not act in the same way as the terrorists that attacked 9/11. By burning the Quran, you are targeting all Muslims, not just the extremists. Not only that but I feel that by burning the Qurans, we would simply provoke the terroists to greater action. America has always prided itself with our rights, and among those rights is the freedom of religion.

I think that burning the Quran is a bad idea. I am Christian but i disagree with it. I think that that church is trying to start something or get some attention. This is also putting a bad name for Christians by doing that. And pesonally i dont want that on our backs. I want to respect them like they respect us because whens the last time that youve seen a Muslim walk around burning the Bible? Its wrong and just plain dumb!

    September 9, 2010 at 9:07 pm |

Pastor Jones has every right to be angry at Muslims just as I am for deeply hurting victim's families and friends, but burning the Quran is not a solution to the terrorists. Violence will probably result if Pastor Jones did burn the Quran

Burning the Quran is wrong because it is just like them burning the Christian Bible. People should let the Islams believe what they want and we should leave their beliefs up to them. Also, burning the Islamic holy book can cause corruption to many things such as the Afganastan war and Muslums beliefs.

I think it's a really bad idea because, i think its a stupid resson.. They should not disrespect other people's religion.
They are choosing a very bad idea. I just hope some one can stop what's going on.. Burning the Quran is almost like burning the Bible. It's their book of worship. We shouldn't burn the Quran just because we don't believe in what they do.. This will not help anything. It will only make things tense for the United States and will not give us a good rep with the Middle East. Also this won’t help the troops staying in Iraq at all. If anything violence will increase, and with the end of Ramadan on the same day…….

There are a lot of ways of fighting against radical Islam other than burning the Quran. Get a “Support Our Troops” sticker; send letters to the troops, heck join the military if you really want to fight the Taliban or Al Qaida. General Petraeus says this action of burning the Quran will hurt our action in the war. We’re having enough trouble fighting the radical Muslims. Having a public burning of the Quran is just going to make other Muslims angered with the US. I think this pastor needs to rethink his plan.

Although I disagree with the burning of Qurans, the coverage that this small congregation is receiving is unbelievable. This is a group of roughly 50 citizens and the media is giving them unnecessary attention, adding fuel to a burning fire. The constant coverage is provoking more controversy. The coverage of this story is understandable to keep the nation informed; however we should limit the media coverage.

I think that burning the Quran would be a bad idea, because its basically the Muslim version of the bible. So it would be like some one burning the bible right? Just because someone has a different religion it doesn’t give people the right to disrespect them.

We should respect others'. Just try to think before taking into action. What if someone burn something you believe without doubt?

    September 10, 2010 at 6:22 am |

I agree with Rachel and Hannah. The Quran is not an object of terrorism, it is a holy book to many people and contains good values for anyone to uphold. It enforces many of the same values as that book Rev. Terry Jones reads from every day. Burning the Quran shows a great disdain for those values. If he wants to condemn terrorism, and really wants to burn something, then he should burn pictures of known terrorists

I think they should not burn it because we are trying to get out of a war not start another one, but at the same time i think they should because its a freedom of religious views and you cant get in trouble of doing something that you believe in...

    September 10, 2010 at 9:24 am |

I don't think you should burn the Quran. If you burn the Quran its like burning one of our own churches. They have different beliefs then we do but that doesn't mean we have to take that away from them. If you go burn the Quran what if they start to burn our churches? You just have to think if it really is necessary to burn the Quran because if you do a war will start.

    September 10, 2010 at 9:27 am |
  426. Jazmin

I believe that burning the Quran is not a good idea in any means. In doing this it could endanger many American troops. As Americans we should also know that just because the people that attacked on 9/11 were Muslim and did believe in the Quran doesn’t mean every Muslim has hatred towards our country. All other Muslims with strong religions should not be disrespected and suffer just because of 9/11. Even though the church can get away with doing this I still think that they need to think about it more and look at it from every view and understand what the outcomes will be because of this.

I believe that by burning the Quran is disrespectful to the Muslims and their religion, it is as though you are committing a sin. It is not them who have caused the 9/11 but a group of terrorists from their country. We should respect the Muslims as they have the same equal rights as we have, hence that doesnt mean that we can just do anything we want, just because they can too. If they did this to our religion, how would we feel? It has nothing to do with the beliefs of the Muslims but the group who did it. In my perspective, I would feel terrible if someone had burnt my holy book.

I am a Christian and I am sorry to hear about the burning of the quran. I am sure the Pasture is not normal. He is not a real follower of Jesus. He is failing in the commandment of Jesus Love of God and love of Neighbour.

I am a muslim and not all muslims are terrorists and this pastor has to understand that. He's totally being racist against our religion and beleifs. How would you like it if muslims were to burn The Holy Bible. I mean it hurts us when ignorant people like Pastor Terry Jones do this kind of crap. He is just being rude. He is just doing this so the musllims will stop making the mosque near ground zero. They have full right to study their religion wherever they want to.

Oh, and one more thing, how would you like it if Muslims burned
YOUR book of worship.[ I didn't try to copy you Hannah.] But, if you ignore me and say " I don't care what you say Anzelle, I still wanna
burn the Quran!" Then you're obvously war-happy 'cause if we burn
the Quran Muslims will get mad, and have a war before you know it!
Then you're gonna say " I wish we never burned the Quran!" So if you guys in war-happy land actually do it and there's a war, don't come running to me sayin' I was right, I won't be suprised.

Burning the Qu'ran is exactly like burning any other Holy Book. The pastor who holds The Bible so close to his heart should understand how important the Qu'ran is to Muslim persons, this is just plain religious intolerance. Sure, he had the right to burn someones sacred book. But is that American? Isn't religious freedom what our founding Fathers and Mothers came here for? The new world is seeming quite old lately.

I think we have the right to burn whatever we want to, but it is not a wise choice to do so even if we have the right. Pastor Jones would be endangering the country if he were to set aflame the Quran. It is almost like burning the Bible.

I believe we should have the freedom to do it, but I don't think we should actually do it. There is literally nothing good that can come from this. I believe it puts our troops in more danger because the Islamic people are not going to be happy about it and could take it out on our troops.

My opinion is that burning the Quran could not possibly have any positive effects, aside from the unity our nation will need to re-establish should this act cause a holy war. How could someone do that? Burning the Quran is rude, predjudiced and mean. Technically, as my teacher told us that Obama said, by doing that you are trying to harm other people's rights by going against them. It would cause major problems. There could be and more than likely would be violence caused by it. It was not the whole religion of Islam that attacked on 9/11, it was a few radical followers. Imagine if some muslims were burning 200 bibles, the whole country would be going crazy. It's not right. I guess he can do it, but it won't end out well, at all.
I'm totally against it. It's not going to help anything.
Also, doesn't the pastor's church have like.. 50 people? I'm pretty sure some of it must have to do with publicity.

    September 10, 2010 at 4:27 pm |

Burning the Quran, its basically like burning the Bible its self, why destroy the Muslim book of religion? Just because of 9/11? It was not them that did it, it was the terroists that did it, yes, they could have someone who trained them to crash the planes into the Trade Center, but we have no knowledge of that what so ever, we should not burn the Quran, it would be a disgrace to the United States name, and that would also cause numerous amounts of trouble, and protests and not to mention the riots that would be caused. Not only the soldiers would be in greater danger than before, the people that live in the U.S. would also be targeted.

I disagree with the Reverands actions because this will put the troops in danger & it is not right . I think that burning the Quran is ignorant to the Islamic faith. The pastor is acting like if he burns this book then he will be honoring them. But I have a question if the people who flew the planes into the Twin Towers were Christian would the pastor be burning Bibles?

    September 10, 2010 at 5:52 pm |
  465. Alycia

Just because the terrorists happened to be Muslims does not mean it is alright to burn the Quran. What if the terrorists were Christians? Would that make it ok for people to burn a bible? Many people would disagree which means that it is just the sort of thing that Muslims should be able to be upset about.

Some people have said that burning the Quran is the same as Islamic practitioners burning a flag. The flag is political, not religious. The only similarity we could come up with for us burning the Quran is if Islamic people were to burn a pile of bibles. Of course, that only accounts for the people who practice Christianity.

i think that this was just terrible! people are saying that the attack happened because of the quaran. but in my opinion thats saying that they cant practice their religion! i think the pastor made a TERRIBLE disition to burn the quaron on 9/11 or any day! how would we feel if they burned our bible? i think he should of been stopped right away! this could effect our troops! if i had a say in this i would certainly say that there is no way i will let him burn their quaron! thats extremely disrespectful and a horrible idea! i am most definetly against burning the quaron!!!!!

  473. Halo

Its just not right to burn a Quran. I think we should treat people and things how you or it want to be treated. Now, thats a pretty fair law, don't you think? I know Jesus wouldn't do anything to hurt you or anything even if you killed someone.

    September 10, 2010 at 8:56 pm |

I think its not right to burn the Quran because its wrong. Its like someone burning the Bible.

I don't think that it's right to build their place of worship so close to ground zero, but that doesn't give us the right to burn the Quran. How would we like it if they burned the bible because we built a church on private property? If we act out in a childish way like burning the Quran before thinking about the affects that it might have on us in the future then we're not any better than them.

    September 10, 2010 at 10:12 pm |
  476. libbya

People please start to think rationally what affect could this have on are troops? we should be making peace with people from other countries and religions not causing more reason for war! If we burn the Quran we woundn't be any better than them.

I think that as an American citizen that people have the right to burn the Quran, as the Muslim's have the right to burn bible's and the American Flag.

The burning of two hundred Qurans would b as stupid as burning two hundred bibles. If you stop and think about it if he went and did that he would b no better than a terrorist to the Islamic faith and would only anger them more than they al...ready are. In my opinion i would call it terrorism against Islam and put a stop to it ASAP. Sure a few Al Qaeda terrorist decided to crash 4 planes on US soil...im not saying that was a good thing but look what Bush Sr. and Bush Jr. along with Obama decided to do...all they wanted to do was play war games and didn't bother to see it as if they were the ones saying you are now to live by these rules and if you don't we will rage war against you for almost 10 years. So back to the Quran, burning 200 Qurans wont move the Mosque planned to b built in NY it would just give the protesters more meaning to leave it were it is. I would have to go with the Muslims right now and say that burning there holly book wont stop them for believing in their faith. How many agree with me?

Burning the Quran is just as wrong as burning the Bible or the American Flag. Everyone has rights, but it doesn't make it right to do it. And when your rights get involed with other people, they arent your rights anymore.

The burning of a Holy book is wrong 100%. I am a Christian and planing on attending Liberty University and i know i would be mad to hear someone burned the Bible. We shouldn't burn someone else`s Holy Book.

Oh, and Paige? What do you mean "dealing" with the Muslim religion. Its a belief , not something to be dealt with. What needs to be dealt with though are the extremists on both ends, also viewing each other as wholes, assuming that certain individuals represent an entire country. Its wrong wrong wrong and I am ashamed sometimes at the way we live today.

  486. Hannah

Burning the Quran isn't right. People have their religions. We can't choose what they believe. It's just like throwing and burning away what you believed and achieved. The bible tells you and makes you learn, so at times it's burning a textbook that's wiser then a normal one.

I don't think he realizes the enormity of what he is doing. He's not just burning the Quran, he's also burning the ties we've worked so hard to rebuild. His actions are selfish, and immature.

if we chose to burn the books we are saying come and attack us we don't care.we could also be putting ourself out there for another 9/11 attack in our furture. Not a good idea.

What kind of PASTOR would burn a sacred book. If we built a church in their country and a preacher posted a video ON THE INTERNET (WORLD WIDE WEB) saying, "lets burn their Bible on the day they open that church" we wouldn't like it. That pastor endagered us all wich he does not have the right to do.

    September 11, 2010 at 11:31 am |

Burning the Quran is basically telling Muslims that their religion is incorrect and invalid. Even if we hae the right to do so, is it really right?

    September 11, 2010 at 12:00 pm |
  493. Justin

I think the pastor who got this idea of burning the Quran doesn't understand that he is putting other christains at risk not in America but christains in other muslim countries and this would also put the troops at risk.So burning the Quran is just wrong!!! .We as Americans must set proper example for others to follow.

    September 11, 2010 at 12:15 pm |

If Muslims can burn the Bible then we can burn Quran. its part of our freedom. Muslims burn our flag as well, so I think we can burn Quran.

  495. Yasmeen

I believe that Pastor Jones should not burn Quran's. I myself am a Muslim and to my family and others, this is considered very disrespectful. I think that if Pastor Jones really dislikes our religion to the extent that he wants to burn a holy book, then he should try to express his hatred in a different way. I can totally understand why Pastor Jones is mad because of the 9/11 attack, because I myself am, but everyone should remember that anyone who commits such a crime belongs to no religion.

I feel that it is completely revolting. We shouldn't burn the Quran because its apart of some people's religion. This is very racist. It seems like the preacher thinks Muslims are unequal when they are just as equal as any other human being in the USA.

    September 11, 2010 at 8:54 pm |

I believe we should not burn the Quran. The Quran is similar to the Christian Bible. As a Chrisitan, I feel that burning the Bible would hurt me and countless other people. There's no doubt that the people who worship the Quran would feel the same way. Burning the Quran would hurt too many people that are innocent.

The pastor has every right to burn the quran. The question is: is it wise? I do not believe it is wise, as it would give Muslims more of a reason to hate us.

  505. Heath

I think that burning the Quran is wrong. I don't care what the Muslims do to us. You should never burn a holy book! Are you reading this Terry Jones?

    September 12, 2010 at 2:28 pm |
  506. Kylie

I think that burning Qurans is wrong and not the answer to terrorism. Our country was built upon religious freedom and that would just say that we as Americans are not accepting of certain religions. Sure, the terrorists that attacked on 9/11 were of Islamic religion but it wasn't their religion or their holy book that made them crash plains into the World Trade Center or the Pentagon it was there individual beliefs.

    September 12, 2010 at 2:47 pm |
  507. Yuqing

Muslim extremist won't feel mad about Quran being burned, instead they will even feel happy about that. Muslim extremists are just a group of people committing crime in the name of religion, for them religion is just a tool to raise troops, a excuse to kill people. Now clergyman Jones is going to burn Quran, and he help Muslim extremists find the best excuse they ever had. Many people will die and national security will be threatened just because of his ridiculous action. I just want to tell Mr.Jones one thing you are not a hero, you are a fool.

I'm so glad that curch is going to be fined. Also... THIS COULD CAUSE WAR!!!!!!!!!!!!! That church dosen't get what they are about to do. I think that we do have every right to burn the Quran, however it is like burning the Bible and it is very, very rude to the Muslims. Plus, it was only a certain group of Muslims who did bad things to our country, not all of them, why should we hate them all??

    September 12, 2010 at 8:30 pm |
  514. Amy

instead of forcing his religious views to the world in a corrupt way, he should have just tried to reason with a religious leader and post a video on youtube or something. That way, people wouldn't look down upon the paster, and they actually might be interested in what he says.

    September 12, 2010 at 8:43 pm |
  515. Larry

You see. The Quran-Such power is inflicted within. The bible is insanely worshipped as well. Anyhow. I don't think we should burn the holy books, although im atheist, i wouldnt like it if someone burned lots of copies of g110 logitech keyboards or something, since thats like. Awesome computer stuff. But then again, my atheism comes in and tells me they are just books->Made in China. But the real point: they have their right to burn the quran like a hippie has the right to protest the war and call troops murderers and etc., and those that are anti-american burn the american flag.... Pretty common, except we feel pity for the 9/11 incident and say not to. Would also place america in a bad position. since its going to be world wide news probably.

    September 12, 2010 at 8:45 pm |
  516. Leah

I believe that we have absolutely no right to burn the Quran. Of course, those individuals had no right to bring terrorism to the United States and kill many either. But it wasn't the religion or the Quran that did that, thus burning the Quran would solve nothing. Also, i believe we should be adults about this situation, we are angry with what happened, but we need to show the world how we deal with that type of situation. We need to show the world we are respectful, not hateful.

    September 12, 2010 at 9:39 pm |
  517. Taylor

I think burning the Quran is a bad idea because it will just cause more problems and it wont solve anything. You can believe in whatever you want to believe in. This could be danger to our troops also.

I think paying $400-$500 to ride the bus to school in the morning is overrated. Most parents cannot afford to pay that much money for one child to get a ride to and from school. Walking two miles to school could be dangerous and kiddnapping crimes could go up in the community, especially for smaller children.

    September 13, 2010 at 1:05 pm |
  519. ASHLEE

I think that parents shouldn't have to pay for anything. Because by state laws we have to go to school till we are at least 16. So if were aren't in walking distants or are parents either don't have a car or are unable to take us to school, how are we able to get to school.? so if the bus is the last thing on the list to take to get to school, and the paretns or student has no money to pay for the bus, expances, how are those kids, or teens able to get to school. So tell me what were supposed to do then...?

The fact that people are willing to burn a holy book is not surprising due to the fact that we live in America. Those people have the granted right to burn the book, but as a moral issue I believe that they shouldn't. The burning of the American flag is a sign of apparant disrespect towards the American government not its people and their religion. By burning the Quran they are personally offending the religion of Islam and all those who practice it, not just the terrorists.

    September 13, 2010 at 4:14 pm |
  525. Yoselin

I am for burning the Quran. Why shouldnt the priest burn copies of the Quran? Just friday they killed 11 of our soldiers. and every day they are burning our flags. Its about time someone stands up for us . Its also freedom of speech and his beliefs that hes standing up for and he has those rights thanks to the Constitution.

    September 13, 2010 at 4:20 pm |
  526. Yanelis

Burning the Quran completely contradicts the U.S. Constitution which are freedom of speach, press and religion. I think this will be a bad idea because then we will be sending the wrong message to other poeple and showing that we are like them when we are not. Also because by doing this we will put the lives of many of our soldiers in danger having catastrophic consequences to us in here later on. In additon because these are thier religion, costumes and thier way of thinking and just because we want it it doesnt mean that we should do it becasue we wouldnt like somebody to burn our Holy Bible or insult our religion like for example (Christianity or Catholic).

    September 13, 2010 at 5:49 pm |
  527. Michael

In my opinion, I disagree about burning the Quran. If it is burned muslims can't worship their G-D and cannot connect to it in any way. What happened in 9/11 wasn't all the muslims fault. Burning the Quran can ruin muslim history and can start fights. Burning the Quran is burning religion and is against the amendment: "freedom of religion".

    September 13, 2010 at 7:54 pm |
  528. Maddie

By burning the Quran it is symbolizing that the religion of Islam is wrong, while it portrays peace and tolerance with other religions. There are extremists in every religion and group and by burning the Quran you will only provoke them further and it isn't right.

    September 13, 2010 at 8:24 pm |
  529. Maddie

Timmy says it's okay to burn the Quran "Of course its just like burning the Bible, but that's only when the believers are not radicals". But many Muslims are not radicals. You cannot just assume things when you don't actually KNOW about t he religion or group. You can't create a stereotype. It is only the extremists that the media is always portraying that you know of. If you take the time to read and learn more about the Quran maybe you would realize that the extremists are grabbing the concept of Islam all wrong. There are extremists in every group or religion.

I say that this is a form of hate speech, and thus it no longer qualifies for First Amendment protection. I think if they want to do it privately, we can't argue that, it's their choice even if it is wrong, but they should not be allowed to burn the Quran publicly. Also, this is putting our troops in Iraq & Afghanistan at risk, which is a big issue for me because I have a cousin there and my best friend's dad is there too. There were rallies over seas with people holding signs that said and chanting "Death to America" because some one decides to burn their Holy Book. Not ALL Muslims are evil! 😦 *tear* 😦

Although I am a Catholic and do not follow the Muslim faith, as a citizen, I beleive what this person intended on doing is very disrespecting to all of the Muslim community. I do beleive that Americans have the freedom to express the way they feel however, that does not signify that they have the liberty to advertise their plans to destroy a religious object. I highly beleive that this is an extremely delicate situation in which we are basing our feelings to other people based on what faith they follow. In retrospect, we wouldn't want an outsider threatning us with the burning of something that we beleive and follow everyday.

I think that burning the Quran is not a good decision to make. Some people think that burning the Quran will make us look stronger, but in reality burning the Quran will just prove that we can be as wrong and disrespectful as the people that burn our flags and bibles.

i believe this is just to make attention. what would make them try to burn the quron. this is madeness. first this could endanger the lifes of our troups in afhgan. second it could for a war. and third even though they have the right of freedom of speech they still have to respect each others religion.

    September 14, 2010 at 4:31 pm |
  539. Patricia

Burning the Quran is wrong! It's a racist and stupid thing to do, why would we want to cause more trouble with Islamic people when some of us are still upset over 9/11? Its like the Muslims burning The Bible, we would get pissed off at them and try to start something. We shouldn't burn the Quran because it would start problems about freedom of speech and respecting over people's culture. It could cause a religious war where our troops are fighting at, and of course we wouldn't want that. Plain and simple, burning the Quran is a stupid idea, we shouldn't do it.

    September 14, 2010 at 4:39 pm |
  540. Brianna

I think they should not burn the Quran. What good will it do? Will they shout, "Hey look at me! I burned a book!" What comes of that? It's useless, pointless and stupid. If you disagree with the religion then keep it to yourself or talk to someone who understands. Don't go and do something stupid for what? Just so you can say that you burned a book? That is pointless and has no purpose. I agree with Ciera. It's just childish. We really need to solve our problems through talking it out like civilized people. Not like a bunch of four year olds who fight to get their way. If I could meet with people who want to do stupid things like this I would ask one question. Whats the point?

i dont think thats a good idea.i mean burning the Quran wont slove anything.its like if the muslims burn the bible we are going to be really mad so think how they feel.i think its real racist of us to burn a sacred book to the muslims just because we cant accept another religion.why would we burn the Quran?what does that said about us?

    September 14, 2010 at 5:42 pm |

Seriously? Burning the Quran would be like burning Ice Man because he rotted. Religion of Ilam did NOT kill people on 9/11, terrorists from Islam did. Being Christian, I would feel like they are burning the Holy Bible.

Most of you do not understand. It is VERY disrespectful to build a islamic center on ground zero. I think they are saying haha you will let us do anything in this country. If they want to JUST build an islamic place for warship they should build it somewhere else. So out of all the places in the world they pick ground zero. I DONT THINK SO. So the pastor is just trying to give them a taste of there own medicine . BUT that does not mean we have to burn their Quran. I think America needs to be the bigger person.

    September 14, 2010 at 6:40 pm |

i think that if in some countrys islamic people are able to kill christians and blow up things i think it would be just a minor statement saying " WE DONT APPRECIATE WHAT YOUR DOING"

9/11 was a horrible day for all of America, but burning the Quran is not the answer. The Quran is a holy book, just like the Bible and Torah. Burning something that is sacred to others is just corrupt and will not do anything except cause anger. How long will it take for people to accept other people for who they and not criticize them about their beliefs.

i do belive that pastor jones should be able to do what ever the hell he wants and should be able to burn as many Quran's as he would like. i understand that some people strongly disagree with me in these veiws because they think it is racist or that it wont solve anthing or its just plain wrong. well the way i see it we like in the united states of america where if my memory serves me correctly people are aloud to do what they want as long at it doesnt break the law or hurt anybody. there for for those reasons alone he should be able to do it. i mean think about it hear rationally for a second or two its a book a freakin book yes its a holy bible to them but its a book no one dies when one is burned there are like a million copys of it that all say the same thing so just pick up another copy and there all better ... what ever thats stupid that people would get so mad over a book.

The burning of the quran in my opinion is a terrible idea i know that over there they are burning american flags in fact, political candidates have gotten hundreds of supporters to elect them and they think saying "death to america" they will win would we our president to do that? i would love to see someone tell all those families that their loved ones fighting in the war have a worse chance of returning home and might be killed for stupid reasons all because a priest decided to burn a book, if he burns it he will not only hurt afghan but all the muslims in the world including the muslims in america, and I do not want another disaster like 9/11 to take place

I belive that burning the quran would be a stupid thing to do. It can cause religous war and/or maybe even america to be attacked, the action of wan man can cause the fate of many things. One thing, the priest can burn the quran it is known as freedom of speech i agree with that. Also muslims and Islams died in 9/11 people from all around the world died in america that day.

Burning the Qur'an is just wrong. Even though they burned our flags and Bibles, that's their way of thinking, not ours. They have a completely different morals and thoughts than us. Basically what we are saying is that they jump off a cliff, we also need to show that we are "strong". Not only that, we are giving them more reason for terrorist attacks.

Well in my opinion i say it's his freedom of speech a dumb speech but lol! everybody has there own way of expressing themselves. I mean it is time some body takes a chance and do something about what the Muslim people are doing to us burning our flags, etc. Now it's time for us to take a stand.

Burning the Quran is wrong, But i agree with freedom of speech and if they want to burn it they have a right to. Muslim's shoudn't be offended because in thier country they burn hundreds of bibles and American Flags and We don't criticize them. I think they should do the same in this occasion.

I dont really find this a good idea. The fact that its the islamic bible of some sort, just makes it wrong. They also schouldnt do it because the islamic people are on our side in the war. The islamic army is with our soldiers and burning there bible can endanger our men. Would You like it if we burned the bible or the torah? NOT ALL ISLAMS ARE BAD. STOP BEING SO PREJUDICE AMERICA.

The buring of the Quran.... ok so like this Priest wants to burn the Quran ok first of all thats not the best example for genereations to come. Second his a PRIEST they are supposed to be reserved and not get into politics because politics and religion do not mix. its like water and oil they DO NOT mix. Ok so like the Muslum TERRORISTS were the ones that knocked down the twin towers. Not all muslums are terrorist and that would be very ofensive burning their holy book for something that other people did. Also to me it seems like his being very racist muslums.

This is against the U.S constitution in many ways. Everytime when we think about the United States we automatically think about freembom and liberty. The Quran to the Muslims is very sacred it just like the bible in cristianity. Either way its still a god that we should respect not burning other peoples belief. Since 9/11 we have thought that we should get vengence but your never going to know when a terrorist attack is going to happened especially if you go off burning their most sacred tresure. Theres also going to be more conflictions American soilders are in Muslim terrirory and how do you think they are going to react witht he soilders, there life would be at risk. If you actually take a look at what actually happened on 9/11 you would be for this terrieble unconstitutional thing. When 9/11 happened they had a prayer room, many Muslims gather there to praise there god. About 60 Muslims died. Thats when you realize not all Muslims knew that was going to happened and also were the victims. We need each person to live there life like they want it including religion. This is a free country and I am 100% against burning the Quran

I believe that burning the Quran is not a good idea. The muslams live and breathe the words of the Quran and burning it would be a total insult to them and most likey this will lead to war. Many argue that they burn the American flag over there so why shouldnt we burn the Quran? The answer to that is simple, there is a fine line between the church and the government, and if they burn the Quran, we are definetly crossing it. If we burn it, they will get angrier with us and the troops over there are less likely to return home. In order to avoid wars and very angry muslims (and even american muslims) we should not burn the Quran.

I think we have every right to burn the Quran because the Muslims burn our flag every day and our bible and we don't do anything to them and its about time we take a stand and show them we mean buisness also we heve the right of freedom of speech that means we can say or do anything aslong as we don't break the laws so in my opinion go ahead burn it i say 🙂

Burning the quran wont do anything but give the Taliban a reason and anger the civilians. Don't get me wrong he has every right to do it but just because you can do something doesn't mean you should.

i think people want to burn the Quran then they have the rights to do it, they don't need to care how other people think and if we can't stop him then why waste time argue. But on the other hand, my position is against it. I think only people with no moral would do such thing to disrespect other people and their religion, just because people in islam do burn our flag and bible it doesn't mean that we should do the same thing. I mean do you bite a dog back if it bit you? NO. i think we know better than that

I think that this whole thing is ridiculous. I mean, one lunatic down in Florida makes the world stop. He doesn't deserve any attention, but he is getting all this press time and everything. Its a wonder how lunatics like him even get any attention at all.

I think that the priest should burn the Koran. It is his constitutional right, as well as the fact that they burn our flags and burn our bibles everyday in protest, why cant we do the same. They burn thousands of bibles and flags and when we burn a couple of Koran, They get upset. Some people state that burning the Koran would start a war. If it does than let there be war. For the first time the U.S. would be fitting for all the right reasons instead of trying to convince others to be like us.

Burning the Quran is ridiculous! It's not going to prove a point to anyone, it's just going to upset the Muslims and endanger our troops' lives and the lives of the American citizens. We, as a country, pride ourselves on our freedoms, such as freedom of religion. Burning the Quran would be hypocritical and denies Muslims that right!

The burning of the Quran is a complete ignorance. Okay we understand that Islamic terrorists caused the 9/11 attack but what beneficial outcome would result in this but embarrassement and more hatred toward us. As I stated before Islamic TERRORIST caused the attacks, not everyone that is Muslim is a terrorist and hates America. We all have different views on topics and we shouldn't blame and embarrass EVERY Muslim for the fault of others.

I'm a muslim, and when i heard about this I was so shocked. The burning of the Quran is the craziest thing possible. This idea will only create more problems. I think they shouldnt burn the Quran because it will cause alot of bad attention. And its not rightt ,thats what islam people believe in and burning it will just be a big fat stupid thing to do!!! I also know by reading the blog above that christians would not like if they burned the holy bible so respect the feelings of islam people and dont burn it !! Burning the Quran is just wrong. Some people say that doing it is standing up for ourselves and "honoring" the people that died on 9/11, but doing it is going to start another war and make more people die. Some people also say that burning the book is stang up for ourselves because they burn the American flag all the time. Well hello!! People in America burn the flag every day, but that doesn't mean that we should go and start burning precious things of theirs!

Burning the Quron is not a very smart thing to do. That priest could have set off a whole religion. Not only the terrorist would hate us, but the the whole religon will. There could have been a religous war. Yeah there might be freemdom of spesch but to a certain extent.

think the Pastor up in Gainsville should and shouldn't burn the Quransbecause they both have good and bad outcomes. The pastor should burn the Qurans because they burn our flag and the are trying to build a temple that they use to pray in where they crashed into the twin tower and killed thousands of people and it costed billions of dollars in damages. The reason he shoudn't burn the Qurans because it can cause alot of problems with the soliders in Afganastan
like they could start killing us.they might try to come over here and the 9/11 happen all over again.

    September 15, 2010 at 4:40 pm |

I believe that this pastor is being disrespectful and racist to Muslims around the entire globe. I think he hasn't thought through what the consequences of his actions will do, because he is risking the lives of others, especially those stationed in Afghanistan. I personally do not have any family members serving in the military at this moment, but imagine how the other hundreds of families throughout the U.S with family member station in Afghanistan. This pastor needs to put himself in the shoes of Muslims, I bet he would be severely offended if Muslims were burning the holy Bible, so he should never think of burning the Quran again.

    September 15, 2010 at 5:04 pm |
  572. Jordan

I think that if you burn the Quran, you're burning the people. I think that it is extremely rude and disrespectful to all Muslims everywhere. I think that if someone was to burn the bible or something holy in your religion, you would be hurt and very upset about it. I think that this would be the complete wrong decision and a very bad choice to burn the Quran.

Wow ! Is this what our americans and our so called pasters do to get even ?! Two wrongs do NOT make a right , its just super disrespectful of him and anyone who agrees with this non-sence about burning the Qurans. Ok the law is on his side but if you're are a person whos a pastor and hold that honor amongs others , there are certin things you just dont do , and this my friend is one of them . Its WRONG . Its WRONG . Its WRONG! And this is coming from an American .

I think that they could burn the Quran because in the United States have the freedom to do whatever they want. Beacuse we have human righs and the first amendment. But they also shouldn't because the people that are in the muslim territory and they may start shooting at them, althought the muslim will shoot anyways.so they should and they shouldn't

    September 15, 2010 at 6:57 pm |
  575. Paola

Quran, bibles, torahs, etc. These are all books of worship. Burning it won't change anything but it will show a lot of disrespect and racism. The pastor needs to understand the concept that not ALL muslims caused the attacks. I understand that he's still upset about the unjust and terrible things that happened. But this can only cause more issues and controversies. He's free to do whatever he wants but I'd figure a pastor would know right from wrong. This is clearly WRONG. It shows he has no morals and self values. How would he feel if they burned our flag or something we praise with high value? not too good, right?

Burning the Quran is going to be a big issue than you expect if this pastor decides to do it. I understand him, I know that the people in Afghanistan burn our flag and bible, but burning the Quran is not going to do it any better. People say it will be a slap in the face if we let them build there place where they pray, but we have to show them that were better than that. So I think that burning the Quran is not the brightest thing to do.

Burning the Quran! You can't be serious! Do he realize that he may put the soliders in Iraq in danger! They are already putting bombs on themselves killing soliders and putting bombs underground so when they drive over it ,it blows up. This man might even put the United States in danger! I don't think he would like other tragic 9/11 to occur again!
I think he should really take time and think this over because would he like to almost burn the holy bible! What is wrong with this priest.? I think he would figure out this is not the right thing to do. Lets see!

    September 15, 2010 at 8:25 pm |
  579. Stephanie

Many people believe that burning the Quran will create issues and start wars between the Islamic and Americans, and because of this we should not burn them. However, by backing down and canceling these plans we're just showing them how scared we might be that they come invade our country. Technically this pastor has the right to do as he pleases with the Qurans. I think the U.S military is very capable of defending themselves under any circumstances because that's what they were trained for, and I'm not just being inconsiderate because I have no family members in the army but because we need to show them that we are not scared of any threads they intend to represent.

Burning Qurans is not illegal. No one said it was. But the fact the priest didn't do what he said he would bothers me because he attracts international attention and everyone expects him to burn them, but when he backs down it makes the citizens of the U.S. look like cowards. Then the Taliban and other radical islamic persons that are potential threats will take advantage of this in the areas of American troop patrols and FOB (Foward Operating Base) and potentially win the hearts of the locals. This is unlikely, but expect the unexpected.

    September 16, 2010 at 10:04 pm |
  589. Hannah

I think that he shouldn't burn the Quran just because they burned our flags, or because they burned the bible, because if they're "extremest" because they burned the flag then what does that make the people who supported it? I also think that he wasn't really thinking about how Muslims who aren't extremest or terrorists would feel, I don't think he realizes that this is their religion, and this is what they've lived by their entire lives. Then he comes along and says that he doesn't like it, and that he'd burn it because he doesn't understand it. I also would like to point out the fact that theres freedom of speech that allow him to do such a terrible thing, but that doesn't me because you can do it that it's right. Well thats just the beginning of what I think about this issue, I could go on for a while, but I won't. -Hannah.

I definitely disagree with this. From a religious standard, it's wrong. You don't have the right to burn the Quran, nobody should. It's Islamic territory, look at it as a group of people deciding to burn the bible. Yes, i see where they could possibly coming from but it the end its disrespectful and as Americans we shouldn't represent in such a rude way.
Once again, i disagree 100% with this idea.

I strongly believe that the idea of burning the Quran is completely wrong. It's their book of worship, that would be like them burning the bible over something stupid. We wouldn't want someone from another religion burning our book, so why do it to them? not all of their race did it.

as rediclous as this is i think we should because they have no respect for us as american citizens! as a result the tragic 9/11 . they dont care about us some do i may be wrong. this may be there religon but they threaten and tourture and capture our american troops .... maybe this will actually be a good thing becuase they will stop taking the untied states for granted its not all muslims that do. they shouldve done it a longgg time ago perhapse after 9/11!!!!! we fear them because 9/11... hopefully this will bring them undercontrol... they could be planing somehting right now .... so burn it!

I think that all paper is paper. Their Quran is the same as our Bible. PAPER. One person out of the how many people live in the US; 310,297,224. Okay, so one person out of the 310,297,224 burn one book. People all over the Middle East, and other parts of the world for that matter, burn everything from our Bible to our flag. Which, by the way, I think is pointless too. It is a piece of fabric. I don't see the difference between people's skin colors and pieces of paper printed on opposite corners of the earth.

We all think burning these was getting back at them. Well, they did nothing. I have a friend who was so upset when she saw the CNN news broadcast of burning these sacered books. She believed that this was just like them burning bibles, except more strict with these. Why? That's all i ask, why? Why do we punish the inocent? My friend informed me about the fact that this religious book can"t touch teh ground without punishment! Yet we stand and fell proud about burning them, NO! This is not the way we became a strong nation and they have the right to religion as well as catholic or chritians. Some say we have the right, we never have the right. We burn these and have nothing done to us yet, if someone burned the bible, they would be puninshed ten-fold! Why is that? Someone answer that with a true answer not an opinion!

What would burning the Quran really proove? I don't think anything. if it does it will just anger the muslims and put all our troops in danger. if the muslims burned the bible we would probably go to war or some stupid thing. It's not right and we shouldnt have even threatened to do it.

We live in America for goodness sakes. We are suppose to have freedom of religion. Just because you dont agree with something, doesnt mean that you have the right to disrespect other peoples opinions. Not only is this guy taking fighting their freedom of religion, but also putting our troops and country in a danger zone. It does not take a genious to figure out the result from burning the quran would be massive craziness. I understand this man wanting to stick up for his relgious beliefs, but putting the entire country in danger is not the way to do it.

No one has the right to burn a book as important as the Quran. Since we live in this country we can choose our own religion. This is a right of all americans that should never be violated. Most Christians would get hostile if anyone tried to bun the Bible. What's the difference? Muslims have a right to worship in this country if they want to.

I think that burning the Quran is a horrible idea, because many people worship the Quran, and burning it would be a huge insult. Burning the Quran would also be like burning the bible.

I think that it's not a good idea to burn the Quran. It's not nice to burn other peoples religious things. It's not appropriate even if it isn't illegal. No one should do such a thing.

9/11 is a terrorist act! Not a religious act. Burning the Quran is just another way of displaying racism. Whoever plans to do it isn't displaying freedom, but displaying exactly what America is trying NOT to be... racist.

I think that burning the Quran is not such a good Idea plus its just wrong to do that to those people that are Islamic that have nothing to do with the 9/11 that are being blamed and being disrespected.

This is just horrible. Its like burning everything you own. This would probably cause a war and will cause death to millions of people. This is really disrespectful, what would happen if something like this happened to us?

    September 24, 2010 at 11:09 am |
  651. Rachel

Burning the Quaran is like burning the bible, I agree with that. But, If the ismalic extremists had a book, I'm sure they'd burn that, and it would be more accepted.

Burning the Quran is just going to create more viloence, its wrong. It's just like burning the Bible in a way. What was he thinking? And last time I checked isn't Jesus in the Quran so what he is doing is burning something with Jesus in it. No real reason to burn it really?

I think that burning the Quran is really rude. I don't think cathlics would appreciate the islams burning the bible, and the islams don't apreciate us burning their holy book.

I don't agree with the muslims, but that doesn't mean i am going to go around burning Qurans. The Quran is sacred to them, and if something was sacred to us, we wouldn't want muslims to go around burning it. I just don't think this is respectful to muslims, and it isn't just.

They killed thousands of people siting their god. Many loved ones were killed. I don't think burning a book is going to kill thousands of people.
