Taking out the Toys

Who should be responsible for choosing what kids eat?
That's how one California county believes it can help fight childhood obesity:  by making it illegal to include toys with some higher-calorie, fast-food kids' meals.  Supporters of the new rule feel this will discourage kids from wanting the meals; critics feel it's the parents' job to make sure their kids eat healthily.  How do you feel about this?  And who do you think should choose what kids eat?

Well I think this is a great law. Fast Food restaurants are technically bribing little kids into getting calorie packed food for a little one-dollar toy that you probably woon't play with within the next 24 hours. I think it should be illegal to have more than 50% of the food at a restaurant to be unhealthy.

It is not the states fault that kid obesity has gone up...it is the child's choice to choose the wrong foods not anyone else's.

I think kids should pick what they want to eat, after all when they grow up their mother and father aren't going to be there, nagging at them of what to eat. They should support their decision.

I feel parents should pick what they eat. That way when she/he is all grown up they make some healthy decisions. The government is not their parents, and after all why take the toys out now?

Well, I think the kids should have the ultimate choice, but parents should get a say too. If the kid wants to waste their body with high-calorie foods, it's up to them. The parents should warn the kid, though. Also, I think that by putting toys in unhealthy, fast-food, meals is kind of a cheap shot by the company. By adding the toys, they are rewarding the kids for eating bad foods.

I totally think it's a good idea to exclude toys from kids' meals. People (or more specifically, kids) just buy them for the toys and only eat them 'cause their parents tell them to. I also think parents should choose what we eat, up to a certain point, when they know we're responsible enough to make wise decisions.

It's true- the toys are all that the kid wants in the meal. But I still think it's the parents who need to say no, not the government.

I think parents have to choose what kids eat because kids don't know what food is healthy and unhealthy. And making illegal to give toys with the meal is very good idea to decrease the percentage of obese kids. But this will affect many kids and they will not go to fast food restaurant causing many restaurant to lose money.

This is a step backward! Trying to drive kids away from fast food? Food is a part of our economy. Think of how many jobs will be affected if this were made national! Even better, put toys in healthy meals that do not threaten to cause obesity!

I think that parents should take care of what their child eats. If the parent is careless, they will let their kids eat what ever they like, most likely leading to obesity.

I think your parents should be responcible because they are the ones that look after you. I mean why would you want the government driving your kid t obesity.

The only people allowed to let kids is is ether there parents or the child because if the government choose what the children eat that wouldn't think its fair and then when kids don't eat enough food the parents are gonna blame the government

I think that it should be parents who enforce the rules on food. I mean, these are THEIR kids, not the governments. They can't just control everything. I feel frustarated that we have so much technology and fatty foods these days. I mean, can't kids just get up and excersise? It grosses me out that they are slowly eating themselves to death. Can't they realize this? I think taht the government should take action against this, just not to harshly.

i do think that kid should watch what they eat. but their have been toys in happy meals as long as i could remember and it would not be cool. (i still get happy meals for the prize and i way older then the little 3year olds that go sragiht for the toy)

I think that parents should be more responsible about what their children eat. It's in almost every kids genes to always say "I want this...I want that" but its the parents' job to say "NO." Plus they should make their kid play outside to lose some calories, too. =D

Kids meals have been around for many years, and the children's obesity problems have inclined drastically over the past few years. Evidentally, obesity isn't reflected from a kid eating a kids meal, I think it stems from both the moms and dads having to work and the faster paced lifestyle we live in today, which causes families to eat fast to-go meals high in calories rather than a healthy, homemade meal at home together as a family.

The government can't control what everyone in the country eats and they shouldn't. Kids should be in charge of what they want to eat. Parents should only step in when their kids start eating too much junk food.

  21. Seonghyun

I think that it won't be as effective than what people think since some parents might still let their kids get kid's meal, which has about an average of 400 calories.

I think they should stop selling toys because it has kids who relly whant the toys beg there parnets to take them there until they say yes and if they stpe least kids will whant to go there so there do not get fat.

I think that parents should decide what their children eat. The government has taken over just about every other aspect of our lives. Now there controlling what we eat, and wheather or not a 5-year old kid gets a toy. And, I think the resturaunt should have a say, because they could lose some customers without toys and etc. It's wrong what the gov. can do these days and I don't think a toy is going to effect your calories.

    April 29, 2010 at 10:32 pm |
  26. Allison

i believe that parents are responsible for the child obesity because they are usually giving into by their children. Many parents just don't even pay attention to the calories on a burger or fries.

    April 29, 2010 at 10:35 pm |
  27. Adlin

I think that this law is very smart, if a kid wants a toy why should he get calories with it. It's like this, if a kid wants a toy you go to a toy store, not Burger king.

  28. Matthew

I think that the choice of what kids eat should be left up to the parents. If the government restricted kids from eating meals at these places, then parents could never give their kids a treat. If the kids chose, fast food and junk would be the only selection. Parents keep kids healthy, while giving them a treat occasionally, and this is what I believe should happen!

I think its the restaurants fault for the calories because they are the ones that make the food and put it on the menu

    April 29, 2010 at 11:38 pm |
  30. David

I believe the only reason this ever came up is that children these days don't play outside as much as they used to. So kids eat the same amount of calories as ever but they don't burn them. I believe the parents should decide what their kids need and what they can or cannot do.

    April 29, 2010 at 11:52 pm |
  31. Ashley

Clearly, the parents/guardians should choose what their kids consume. It makes absolutely no sense to take toys away from certain kid's meals in hopes of discouraging them from eating unhealthier.Regardless of taking away the toys,I think that kids will still eat higher-calorie kid's meals from fast food places.

  32. Sarah

I think that obesity starts at other places than fast food restaurants. It starts when the parents have a busier and more hectic schedule and do not have time to make a healthier home cooked meal for their children.I sincerely doubt that fast food places are solely responsible for obesity increasing .

Please Tell the goverment to handle roads and the military and stay out of the private sector they have already destroyed the tobacoo industry now they are destroying the fast food buisness how long before they come for you job?
Not to mention the medical industry, as long as there is fat in the land there will be fat kids this a p[oint for the parents not somw goverment busy body...

    April 30, 2010 at 4:18 am |
  36. Julien

Of course the parents should be responsible. But as they don't, the government has to take decisions to change the situation. Moreover, obesity costs lots of money for the government. In term of health care and above all in term of economic efficiency. It is well known that to get the more efficient economic system you need a healthy population. Which could be a serious issue for the USA and Mexico in the future.

Kids who are fat die earlier than kids who have a healthy live style. All kids should choose the right foods. I come home from school and eat some fruits and veggies, but eating too much fruits can make you sick. All kids should watch what they eat.

For young children, it's up to the parents to make good, healthy choices. As the children get older, they will know what is good to eat and will be able to maintain the responsibility of healthy living.

the toys aren't high quility and the kids play with them for like two days then their parents throw them out or the kids just lose it. kids are starving all around and other kids are hogging down food just for a toy that has sound, moves, or does NOTHING

Our class feels that restaurants should post the nutritional information and then parents should decide what their children should eat based on that information. Whether restaurants give toys with meals should not be a government decision.

I think that America is getting too obese. The only way to stop this epidemic from spreading around the world, is by taking out the toys so children won't be tempted to get the kids meal.

I think that the parents should control what their kids eat and how often they eat it. Why take the toys away from the kids because the parents cant make their kids eat right. Maybe the fast food industries should only advertise toys with another type of meal called a healthy meal that offers toys like frisbees and balls to keep the kids active.

    April 30, 2010 at 9:24 am |

I think that there wont be much of a different but I also think that it's the parent's choice to choose because they have the money and if they really care then they should just not go to fast food restaurants.

I think resturants should take them out because the toy will just attract the kids to eat more and when kids are young they don't excersize a lot.

truthfully, I agree with the critics. Parents should be responsible for making sure their kids eat healthy. Personally though, I would get the Happy Meal anyway. The toys are so cheesey I don't even play with them. Most of the time I eat the food, look at the toy, and throw the toy out or donate it. Don't make the toys illeagal. The kids my family donates them to don't get the food.

    April 30, 2010 at 9:33 am |
  76. Dante

I think it's smart to inforce this law. It would make fast food resturants make their meals healthier so they can include the toys. Than kids would be healthier than they would be if this law wouldn't be inforced.

    April 30, 2010 at 9:34 am |
  77. molly

I think that they should not put a toy in the high calorie foods. Kids would want to buy this fat food just because they get a toy. I think if its under 480 calories would be ok with a toy because if they do want the toy they can get it with a healthier meal. If this happens their might not be as many obesity kids.

    April 30, 2010 at 9:34 am |
  78. Lizzie

I think that toys should be banned from high calorie happy meals, the kids just get the food because it comes with a cool toy they don't even care about the food. If there was no toys in high calorie foods the younger kids wouldnt eat them which would lessen childhood obesity.

    April 30, 2010 at 9:34 am |
  79. Kylie

I think kids are eating happy meals is because they get to keep the toy. So I think toys should be banned.

It's more the parent's responsibility, but I think it's nice the government is trying to fight obesity.

i think that it is the parents falt because they should no how bad 400 someting calores is.They should take away the toy so the kids will not be temted to eat the happy meals.

I think the parent must choose since they make the decisions for us. The government can control us but can't make us do things we don't want to do.

I think that the goverment should be responsible for the calories that they are putting the kids meals and I agree to takeout the toy to not attract with the toy.

    April 30, 2010 at 9:35 am |
  84. jordyn

i think toys should be banned from high calorie happy meal. the only reason kids are eating the meal is because they get a toy. since the kids want the meal just because there is a toy, these kids will become unhealthy. i think the parents should choose what kids eat.

    April 30, 2010 at 9:35 am |
  85. brooke

i think thart they should take them out because if the little kid want to play with them they could think that the toys are food and they could choke on the toy and also becasue it's plastic it is even worse for them. i also think that they are not good toys to play with because they could brake easily and someone could cut them self and they are very dangerouse.

    April 30, 2010 at 9:36 am |
  86. Cathy

i think that the kids should be the ones in charge of their selection of diet. they can choose for themselves. it is neither the parents' nor the government's fault that the fast food are too high in calories. i think it is not right to take the toys out of the meals, cause kids can choose what they want, and that includes both fast food and no fast food.

    April 30, 2010 at 9:36 am |
  87. Jennifer

i think that they should take out the toys at fast-food places. the reason for this is because 1st of all they could chocke on them. also the toys could break easily. these toys are not necessary at all.

    April 30, 2010 at 9:37 am |
  88. shiraz

i think they shouldnt take the toys out because, if they do then the little kids will be sad and wont have fun while they are eating their happy meal. also the adults will pay less to the company that they bought the food from

  89. olivia

I think that this is bad ther kind of getting the kids to eat ther food becase of the toy. I think that the parents and the the kids should tontrol what they eat.

    April 30, 2010 at 9:39 am |
  90. Gina

I think it should be illegal! Kids feel tempted to get high in fat or calorie meals, just becuse they get a toy. If people don't put a toy with it i don't even think kids will want to get it.

    April 30, 2010 at 9:41 am |
  91. Mary

I think that the government was right to ban the toys but I also think that it's none of their business on what we eat. It should be the kids choosing what they eat and the parents approving.

    April 30, 2010 at 10:20 am |
  92. Rebecca

I think parents should be responsible on what kids should eat because then all kides will be happy and healthy. At food resterunts just get french fries, a drink, and atoy. Watch what you eat so you can have a longer life than a shorter life. watch what you eat oround youre parents. what you eat in resterunts don't have healthy food usualy.look at the tabs or ask youre parents about thethe food so its healthy cause not every think is not true on the chairs.

  93. Emma

Ugh, that sounds terrible. Some peaople don't even eat the meals, just get some fries and a toy. Like me. When I go to McDonald's and Burger King I have my parents egt my brother and sister a Kid's Meal or a Happy Meal – depending where we're at – and me just the fires and an extra toys. They bring me a meal like a ham & cheese sandwich for me, and I have htat along with some Burger King Apple Fries or McDonald's salty fries. i might get a Milk Shake or Soda occasionally, but usually just some juice.

Well I think it's actually mostly because of the parents because they let the children eat the meals. But I disagree with how it's the childrens' fault. Unless they learnt how calories work in their body, it's not their fault they're eating the meals. I don't agree with how it's the government's fault, but I think the government should take part of taking care of this problem.

i think that the parents should choose what he kids want to eat because now days they let their kids do what they want and most of he time they don't do anything but eat and stay at home. At least if you want to eat what you want you should be in a sport or work out so you can burn off the calories that you just have consumed

Kids may have wants and desires when it comes to meals and that is fine. Every once in a while it is okay to have that kind of food as a treat or a reward, but for that kind of food to become the norm is wrong and irresponsible on the parents part. It is the parents or guardians role to act as the decision maker for the well being of their child and choosing fast food all the time is not a healthy choice. By allowing to eat fast food as a normal part of their child's diet is not only harmful to their health now but it is also teaching them dangerous heating habits that could extend into their adult life.

I think that the parents and goverment should be responsible. The kids have almost nothing to do with this. The kids just want the toys so acctualy its the restaurants fault.

I Think that the government shouldnt be the one to decide what we eat, since the government has messed up enough things with the health bill backfiring and taxes. i have to put my foot down and say if we choose who tells us what to eat, it should be parents, because some kids dont like to eat right while parents have been a big help to almost all kids.

I think they should get rid of the toys. They only encourage kids to eat unhealthy food. Parents have already proven incapable of making healthy choices for their children, so the choice needs to be made and if the parents won’t make it somebody else should.

    April 30, 2010 at 11:23 am |
  108. Brittany

Parents and the kid should be the only ones to make the desision of what the kid eats. The child knows how much they can eat. And most of the time kids dont even finish their meals anyway.

    April 30, 2010 at 11:23 am |
  109. Tyler

I think that the law should be that any happy meal for kids that include toys should be band, even though it should be the parent’s choice to tell there kids what to eat and what they are allowed to choose when it comes to eating or drinking at the fast food joints.

    April 30, 2010 at 11:23 am |

I think parents should choose what kids eat. But the government should think about the calories in fast food like what california is doing. Take the toy away if it is over an amount of calories and if they have a low enough amont they can put a toy in the meal.

    April 30, 2010 at 11:24 am |
  111. Chris

I think that they should take away the toys. They encourage kids to eat unhealthy food. Most only eat because they get a toy. If there are no toys in the kid’s meals less kids will want to eat them, which will reduce child obesity.

I think that the parents of the children should be the ones who choose whether or not they eat high calorie foods and get toys. Instead they are making it harder for the fast food joints to make money. Yes childhood obesity is becoming a problem, but that’s not the fast food restaurants fault, it’s the parents fault

    April 30, 2010 at 11:25 am |
  114. Melissa

I think that the kids should choose what they eat. It's their choice of what they put in their bodies. Besides, the government definitely doesn't have control of the child and the parent could still put in a suggestion, but it's the kid who is responsible for their own choices.

no perant should let there kids get obeast when ther 10 because if my dad was yunger he would of not eaten so much junk food it is a major habbit for kids

I think that it would be a good idea since the obesity rate for kids is going up. If they take the toys out kids won’t want to go to MacDonald’s as much. So I think it’s a great idea to take the toys away.

    April 30, 2010 at 11:26 am |

I think parents should control what their kids eat. If their child is gaining alot of weight then maybe they should stop giving them fast foods and start making home made meals that are alot healthier for them.

    April 30, 2010 at 11:26 am |
  118. Dolan

I think that it is a good thing that parts of California are taking out the toys in kids meals. It is a bad habit to start eating greasy foods when you are young. Each year there are more and more obese people in the United States. If our kids kick that habit when they are young then there would be less obesity. This will be a step forward from what we are today.

I think that the parents only have some responsibility over their children, but the restaurant has most of the responsibility. Yes, the children’s parents should make sure that their kids eat healthier; however, the restaurants need to take the toys away. The toys are the only reason why children want to go to fast food restaurants. This will lead to a very fat America.

    April 30, 2010 at 11:27 am |
  120. Rebecca

I think that taking out the toys in the less healthy foods is a smart way to reduce the want of children eating those unhealthy meals. These toys that the kids see and hear about make them want to get them even more, but there really prized for eating unhealthy. I don’t think that the government should be entirely in charge of what is okay for little kids to eat, but I do think, however, that the parents should have some say in what their kids are eating, and what they get with it I think that the government and the parents should be able to decide together what their children should be eating.

I believe it is the Families choice to choose how they eat, I believe the government is getting way to much power over our lives taking out video games and now toys for kids at fast food restaurants what is coming to this country?

  125. Kates!

I don’t think its right for the government to get involved in what kids eat. It’s the parent’s choice on what their child can or cannot eat. Kid’s toys have always been in kids meals and that’s what children look forward to. I think they will lose a lot of income if they stop putting toys in the meals.

    April 30, 2010 at 11:34 am |
  126. Kristina

I think that it is the parent’s responsibility I think they need to choose what there kid can and cannot eat. I think that is should not matter to the government, and plus if they do band the toys, kids can still eat other foods that are the same calories or worse.

I think this is a bad idea because when the kids are done eating they can play with the toys and burn calories. And if the kids are over eating it is the parents fault. They have control over their children and should work for there safe being.

Parents need to be responsible for what their kids eat. As a parent you should have complete control over your kid if they are at the happy meal age. So the parent needs to be responsible.

The parents should be trying to keep the kids under calorie check the restaurants are just trying to make money. They don’t need to put your child on a diet.

  131. Aaron

The government should deffinetly be responsilbe for the calorie overlook. Resturants and Parents aren't doing anything effective. The resturants want a quick buck but the parents are looking for something quick and easy, not helpful and nutritious.

    April 30, 2010 at 11:36 am |
  132. Robyn

I think that it should be the parent’s responsibility but if they aren’t taking the actions to make their kids healthy then yes the government should then pitch in and help raise awareness of obesity and the effects on the country. I feel like the kids eating the kid’s meals are too young to understand and that parents should step up and feed their kids the right food, regardless of the toy the kids will want it anyways.

    April 30, 2010 at 11:36 am |
  133. Kaylieeeee

I believe that taking out the toys is a good way to discourage fast food eating to kids. Giving kids a toy with fast food is like rewarding them for eating something that's not good for them. If anything, they should give toys with healthier options such as fruit.

    April 30, 2010 at 11:36 am |
  134. Garrett

I don't think they should take out the toys because kids love the toys. If they have too much calories then do more activities with your kid. So you can burn off those "extra" calories. The parents should be in charge. Just don't go there all the time.

    April 30, 2010 at 11:36 am |
  135. kriss

I feel that the government should be held responsible for what kids eat, as well as everyone else in the world. Fast food should be banned all together, that way there is no conflict on unhealthy food. Parents should also be help responsible because they obviously have the upper hand and put down the rules for what their children eat.

    April 30, 2010 at 11:36 am |

Everyone has a part in eating healthy. The parents should teach the children about healthy living, the restaurants should support the parents by providing healthy alternatives and the government should spread the word and encourage healthy living habits.

I am against taking the toys away because I remember when I was younger and really looked forward to seeing what toy I got. It is like a prize that comes with their food. I don’t think it’s up to the government what the kids eat, it should be up to the parents and hopefully they make a smart and healthy choice for their kid.

    April 30, 2010 at 11:37 am |
  140. Paige

I think that it is an okay idea. Its not the greatest. Yeah kids will get a meal so that way they can get a toy, but i always never finished my happy meal as a kid. I only wanted the toy.
I think that the parents should decide and if not that, because that has cons too, the food place should decide.

    April 30, 2010 at 11:37 am |
  141. Slick

I think that the parents should be responsible for how many calories the child takes in, but the fast food chains should also work to try and lower the calories in their food, that way they would not have to worry about not being able to give toys away.

    April 30, 2010 at 11:37 am |
  142. Derek

I think it's a great idea because the smaller kids will want the toy so they will pick a smaller portion or a healthier meal all together, I think the whole country and around the world should start doing this so they prevent obesity.

    April 30, 2010 at 11:37 am |
  143. Jenny

I think that parents need to choose the healthier option for the kid I think that by not giving out the toys it will make the kids want the healthier meal more. If the kid doesn't care about the toy and wants the unhealthy meal the parent just needs to be firm and say no.

    April 30, 2010 at 11:37 am |
  144. Mackenzie

I think that the government should have no role in deciding what kids eat. It is up to the parents to make the decision on what they feel is right for their kids to eat. The toys have always been apart of kids meals, and I think that should also be up to the restaurant to decide whether they include toys.

    April 30, 2010 at 11:38 am |
  145. linds

I believe it is the parents that should be managing what there child eats, not the government. Kids are obese because parents don’t know how to tell there children no anymore. Happy meal toys have been around for many of years so why change it now, just because parents give into there children with everything. The government has no right to choose how people parent.

    April 30, 2010 at 11:38 am |
  146. Ryan

I believe that this will discourage kids from wanting the meals as much because when I was a kid, I would rather get the meal with the toy and even when I wasn’t very hungry. The toys made me excited to get the meal.

    April 30, 2010 at 11:38 am |
  147. Katelyn

I think that taking out the toy and thinking that kids aren't going to eat the happy meal anymore is stupid! The point it to reduce the calories that's not reducing it that's hoping the kids won't eat it. I think they should reduce the calories and keep the toy.

    April 30, 2010 at 11:38 am |
  148. adam

no it should be the parents because i need my toy when i get my meal i may be a teen but i still like my toy every now and then.

  149. Jessica (:

I think it was a good idea to take the toys out of higher calorie meals in fast food places but at the same time i think its more of the parents choice what their kids eat.

    April 30, 2010 at 11:39 am |
  150. Kelsey

I think that if they are little little kids that is should be up to the parents to decide. If it is older kids i think it should be up to the kid. The kid should be able to eat what they want.

    April 30, 2010 at 11:39 am |
  151. Mickey

Watching our diet and the diets of children is our responsibility. Let the parent control the diet of the child not the government. Where does it end? First they control what the children eat and then what? What they learn in school?

    April 30, 2010 at 11:39 am |
  152. Max

I really don't see where the toy has anything to do with it, But if the food is harmful to your heath like in the form of obesity then the restaurant will be at blame because of the food they provide being harmful.

    April 30, 2010 at 11:39 am |
  153. Brian

I think that fast food restaurants need to cut down on the fats in their food because I personally think that fast food restaurants are nasty. I only go to Wendy's and that is when I absolutely need to. I also think that parents should have a say in this subject. But the sad part is most parents don't care. But if they go to a fast food place they should get some exercise, or plenty of playing around the house with some dogs.

    April 30, 2010 at 11:39 am |
  154. carley

I think the fast food restaurants should think about how much calories they put into their meals, they should try to make the meals they sell more healthy but the parents also should watch what their children eat on a daily bases to make sure they get the protein they need and make sure they get plenty of active playing at home and at school.

    April 30, 2010 at 11:39 am |
  155. Jessica(:

I think the parents should be responsible because if they are so cautious of there children becoming "fat" then they should control what they eat, after all, they are the parents.. and they are in charge.

    April 30, 2010 at 11:39 am |
  156. Stefanie

I think the parents should choose what their kids eat, but I think that everyone should care about fighting childhood obesity. So I think that should include the restaurants too. But the parents shouldn’t give in so easily when their kids are bugging them for fast food, and sugary treats. That is called tough love, and knowing what’s best for their children. I think there should be a balance established, and that alone helps fight childhood obesity. It won’t matter how well the restaurant helps if the parents are letting their kids eat unhealthy all the time. I think a majority of the responsibility definitely falls on the parents. So taking out the toys or leaving them in happy meals won't matter.

    April 30, 2010 at 11:40 am |
  157. Alison

I do think that parents should be watching what their children eat and making the decisions, but they aren’t. When parents can’t take the responsibility of their children and making sure they are eating healthy, someone needs to. That only leaves the government. If you don’t want the government involved in your life, take a step forward to prevent that. In this case, take care of your child.

    April 30, 2010 at 11:40 am |
  158. Katie

Some active kids need high caloric diets. It’s not right for the government to control who gets a toy while eating fast food. A child shouldn’t be punished for wanting a happy meal complete with a toy that happens to have more calories than a different meal. How can it be the government’s right to say that the child should not have the extra calories without knowing the circumstances? The parents should have the right to choose whether their child gets the toy or not, no one else’s.

    April 30, 2010 at 11:40 am |
  159. Alexis

I think its kind of the parents job to say there kid can have there toy or not because some kids don't get it unless they finish there meals and some autistic kids get really mean and will start getting really mad and either hurt them or someone else. So I think its the parents jobs to choose if the kid gets the toy or not

    April 30, 2010 at 11:41 am |

I feel that you are taking the fun out of kid’s meals. If the parents control there kid’s diet they won’t have obese children.

i think that your parents should be responsible if you don't eat enough calories you won't get enough energy. That's what I learned in science & that's my opinion. It's not the government's responsiblity to tell you want to eat, but your parents.

I know the government is concerned about child obeisity, but parents should be the ones responsible. The children definatley shouldn't be the ones to choose what they eat because they would probably go too far with the food. They are the parents' responsibility, not the governments or the childrens.

I think the fast food toy ban is ridiculous. They’re putting the responsibility on the fast food restaurants, instead of on the parents where it needs to be.

I think it’s the parent’s choice on what their children should eat because it’s their child. I think the restaurant should choose what kids should eat.

  169. Danielle

I think that toys should be kept in the kids meals because eating fast food is up to the person who is buying it and if parents don’t think it is bad then the government shouldn’t get involved. Nobody but the person who is eating fatty foods is going to stop themselves and I really don’t believe that anyone can stop obesity because it has gotten so bad.

    April 30, 2010 at 1:09 pm |
  170. Brandon

I don’t think anyone can be to blame because everyone is their own individual with their own likes and dislikes. Parents and government can attempt to guide a child away from fast food and discourage it, but if the child wants one, its very easy to get a few dollars to get some.

    April 30, 2010 at 1:09 pm |
  171. Allieeee

Child obesity is becoming a serious matter. Kids are becoming bigger and bigger as the future progresses and I believe that taking the privilege of toys away for getting the more un-healthier meal is a good idea. That’s teaching younger children, an instinct that the foods that are better for you, are the foods that you want to eat.

    April 30, 2010 at 1:10 pm |
  172. Matombo

I think that it is a good idea because it helps kids make good choices. But I think the decision is up to the parents of the kid.

I think parents should choose what their kids eat. Our country today is too caught up on the types of advertising out there. People should have the self control to say yes or no, and at that have enough control to say yes or no to their kids.

    April 30, 2010 at 1:11 pm |
  174. kylee

Parents should have control over what their children eat, not the government.

I think that it is a bad idea, because toys are best part for kids and they like there toys. So if you take those away from them I feel like it will get worse.

    April 30, 2010 at 1:11 pm |
  176. Timothy

I believe it's a good idea to take toys away from happy meals with to many calories. It doesn’t seem like there parents are telling them “no” to the food so the government has to help out all they can.

    April 30, 2010 at 1:11 pm |
  177. mogen

I think that parents should choose what kids eat. I know that our country is fighting childhood obesity and they are trying to find ways to stop it but even if they take “bad foods out” and “good foods” in at schools and public places or even in this case “punishing” children for getting a “bad meal” by taking away the toys in the kids meal it’s the parents who provide the money for the food so no matter how hard they try to fix things kids will go home and stuff their faces with what their parents are providing them with.

    April 30, 2010 at 1:12 pm |
  178. Brian

I think that food should be the parent’s responsibility. They can choose what their kids eat. The parents are the ones who buy the food so if they don’t want their kids to eat fast food they just won’t buy it for them.

    April 30, 2010 at 1:12 pm |
  179. Daryn

I think parents should monitor what a child eats, and the government shouldn’t have to think that they have to take control of childhood obesity. It’s a parents job to keep a child healthy, and make smart decisions.

I know as a little kid I loved the toys in kid’s meals. I think the toys are what make kids think that the unhealthy meals are fun and okay, if the toys are put only in healthy meals then I believe it can improve the health of children.

i think that the parents should stop their crying and actually do something about it, its rediculous that they blame the industry when the parents but the kids the food

    April 30, 2010 at 1:15 pm |
  182. Rochelle

I think that it is stupid to take away the toys because the toys are the best part and kids are always looking forwards to the toy and most of the time they don’t even want to eat there food because they just want to play with the toy.

    April 30, 2010 at 1:18 pm |
  183. Danny

I think that it’s stupid that they have to take the toys out of the meals. It shouldn’t be the government’s chose on what the fast food business can and cant do. It should be the parent problem its their decision on what their kids eat.

    April 30, 2010 at 1:19 pm |
  184. Trevor

I think that parents are responsible for their kids eating habits. They should be the ones who decide whether to let their kids eat the higher calorie fast foods or not. This will most likely put a lot of fast food businesses into less business because of this.

    April 30, 2010 at 1:19 pm |
  185. Aaron

Parents should choose what the kids eat. The government will feed us contaminated food to fit us for war, and kids, will obviously choose dank candy and get plump.

    April 30, 2010 at 1:20 pm |
  186. Jaden

I don’t think taking out toys from kids meals will discourage the kid to eat the unhealthy meal because it is the parent’s job to monitor what the child eats. From my own personal experience the toys help kids eat food; my little sister for the longest time would not eat when we went to fast food unless she got the kids meal with a toy. My mom would hang onto the toy until after she was finished, that way to almost reward her for eating.

I don't see why they're doing that; it's just stupid. Changing the amount of calories and sodium in the foods makes more sense than just taking away the toy. Parents control what children eat-NOT the government.

i think this is redickulous. once again Parents should decide. If your mom or dad or whoever goes out and buys you a happy meal with a toy its ok. It wouldnt be fair to children who have growin up with it. Its not the toy, in genral kids want mcdonalds, the toy just makes it more appealing to them. i think this is crazy ,there little kids the will runnit off i dont know one child that dosent or isnt allways hyper.

Its parents faults for bring their children to micky D’s. If they didn’t want their children to gain weight then they shouldn’t bring them there. They toys are there to make it different from the adult meals and to make it more fun to eat because we are not aloud to play with our food, so might as well put a toy in there.

  190. kendyll

i think that this is stupid to take the toys out of kids meals. the reason is the even if you take out the toys the kids will still eat it anyway. its not really the kids that are chooseing to eat the food its thier parents,so takeing away the toys would solve nothing.

    April 30, 2010 at 1:36 pm |
  191. shnee

I think that the toys should be taking out of the kid’s meal. That is the only reason the kids go there for the toys and then they end up eating their food. And it should be the parents choice weather to go out to eat or stay home and eat healthy. I think they should take out the toys out of fast food places.

    April 30, 2010 at 1:37 pm |
  192. shayne

I don’t think the toys are the problem, I think the parents are the ones that make the decision on what the kids eat. If they don’t want the kids to eat bad food then they shouldn’t get it for teem. I always got mc Donald’s and I now understand that it is bad for you and I don’t eat it anymore. If the kids eat it, it is their fault that they get fat.

    April 30, 2010 at 1:38 pm |
  193. Beth

I think that the state of California should not decide whether or not you get toys with a meal. The parents should be the ones to decide what their kids eat and whether or not they want their kid to have a simple toy with their meal. If California is going to take away the toys in the meal, then they should just take away the food since the parents will soon not even be able to decide if their kid has salad or carrots with their meal.

    April 30, 2010 at 1:39 pm |
  194. Austin

I think the kids should choose what they eat. Kids have the right to choose whether its candy or fast-food or fruit. Its there own fault if they get fat or they get heart problems. Yes the parents should be worried but put them in a sport for peeks sake. So that’s why I think kids should have the right to eat anything.

    April 30, 2010 at 1:40 pm |
  195. Jeremy

I think that parents should decide what we can and cannot eat. I think that, because the government shouldn’t have control for what we can’t eat. I know it’s bad for the kids, but still, it is the parent’s decision. That’s why I think that parents should choose if we can eat at McDonalds or not.

    April 30, 2010 at 1:40 pm |
  196. Jordan

I personally think that parents should choose what the kids eat. At least until the kids mature to an age where they know what they are eating and the consequences of eating it. If it was the government’s decision then it would cause a big hassle. I can picture them kicking us out for eating unhealthy food. If people get fat it’s their fault.

The thought the the goverment should choose the outcome of taking toys out of happy meals is outragous. The parents should be able to choose if their kids get a happy meal. It is not right that the Goverment is doing this.

I think that it's a bit too far to make toys with kids meals illegal. It should be the parent's job to decide what kids eat and making them stay healthy.

    April 30, 2010 at 1:53 pm |

I think this is unfair because if the meals have no toys, than kids will start not coming, then the employees will not have enough money to get payed, or to pay the bills.

  201. Julianna

I think that it would probably hurt the resturant company if they took out the toys because most kids are just in it for the toy.

    April 30, 2010 at 1:55 pm |
  202. Shahina

I think that it's not the toys that are making kids want to get more high calorie food and becoming obese, I think it's what the kids do AFTER they eat the high calorie food. If the kids do a sport activity after they have eaten high calorie food, they will burn off all the calories that they have eaten. If the kids just sit down and watch T.V. after they've eaten the high calorie food, they won't burn off the calories they have just eaten and they'll become obese. I'm not saying that it's anybody's fault that the kids of America are becoming more obese, I'm just saying that the parents will need to make sure that their kids get the exercise they need. And schools can help too by giving out less homework so that American kids can get the exercise they need to get to burn off all those calories that they have eaten.

Parents should be in charge because the Gov. has a lot more things to deal with besides childhood obesity, and not kids because some of them dont make good choices.

I think parents should be responsible for this child obesity situation because they are in charge of their own kids. They are the ones who raised them not the governmment or anyone else. They are the ones who choose what their kids should eat.

    April 30, 2010 at 2:43 pm |
  209. Talia

Parents are to blame for childhood obesity. They are the ones that let there childen eat fast food so much. The only reason fast food resturants have foods with such high calories is because it makes them money. The parents raise the children, not anyone else.

This isn't going to solve any thing it is the parents job to tell there kids no, the kid is not going to no what is wrong for them that is why they have parents. The parents are the only ones who can fix the problem, not the goverment, not the kids, THE PARENTS.

The parents should obviously choose what their kids eat because it's THEIR responsibility. The restaurant nor the government should have get in to that problem, the parents should

I think taking away the toy will discourage the kid from choosing that meal and will make them more likley to choose the healthier meal. I do think the parents should be in charge of how their kids wat, but some parents, don't care enough to make sure their child is eating healthy.

    April 30, 2010 at 3:34 pm |

It would be dumb to have the Goverment to watch what the kids of the United States! It should be the parents responsabillty because its their child not the Govermants child!

I think kid chooses what he or she eats or doesn`t eat but parrents should attend and prevent child eating a dangerous food. also this question depends on the age of the child and on his health.

I think it should be the parents job to tell their child what to eat and what not to eat. It is their responibility to take care of their child and watching what they eat is part of taking care of them.

  217. Hailee

I don't think the government should focus on things like taking away toys from kids meals they should focus on government things. Also instead of taking away the toys they should just have a law that that the meal can't be over a certain amount of calories and a certain amount of fat and salt.

    April 30, 2010 at 4:49 pm |

I believe that in this case it is the parent's vault. It is there responsibility to feed there kids healthy food, not something that has been through a machine. Banning toys in kid's meals may make a difference, but not much.

  221. Katey

I think that parents decied what kids eat because kids don't know how to eat what they should it's important to have all the right things to help your body to be healthy. Kids cannot eat right without someone to make sure that they are geting all the right things.

I think that the parents should be able to be the ones that get to choose what kinds or fatty foods there children are eating. Some parents may not be making the most responsible choices but, the goverment and the restaraunts could make irresponible choices as well, what if all the restaruants wanted thier food eaten so they made it okay for kids to eat all sorts of food, even the foods with the most fat.

    April 30, 2010 at 5:09 pm |
  224. Max

I think that when you are young, your parents should watch what you eat. But when you start to get older, you should take responsibility for your own actions!

I dont think taking away toys will stop kids from eating higher calorie meals. I say that if parents don't want their kids eating high calorie meals, they should buy them for there kids. The government shouldn't try to control the way we eat, it is our and our parents dission not the govenment.

I think California's right. Kids just want food that tastes good, parents like to indulge their kids, so government is all that's left. Besides, fast food is greasy, unhealthy junk that I don't even like! Hamburgers taste a million and seven times better when my dad grills them.

    April 30, 2010 at 5:49 pm |

I think that if a parent can chose what their kids do through out their lives that the parents should chose what they eat. Some parents can't afford the expensive, healthy food.

  230. Lilly

I find it unreasonable to take a toy out of a meal based on calories. It would be a much better solution if meals were all together, just healthier. Simple stuff such as eliminating burgers for salads, or fries for fruit and veggies can make a big difference for America.

    April 30, 2010 at 6:20 pm |
  231. Grace

I think that people should be responsible for their own health. Restaurant owners should not have to bend over backwards to make sure others are healthy. If someone really wants their health to improve, they should work at it, not someone else.

If the toys get taken away then the business will lose a lot of money but the good part would be that obesity would go down for the fast food restaurants.

Personally I feel the only people responsible for what a child does or doesn't do is because of the parents teaching them right from wrong. The same should go for food and diet. I do think it's a good idea to make kids meals healthier but just because they aren't doesn't mean they need to take out the toy.

    April 30, 2010 at 6:47 pm |

I completely agree with this new law!!!! When I was Younger The only reason why I BEGGED my parents to take me to fast-food resturants was so I could get the toy. I really think this can help stop obsesity

I think it is the parents fault because instead of saying get this or that they let the child pick to avoid argument. I think they should take a stand as parents and order fruit so the child can get a toy and stay healthy.

    April 30, 2010 at 6:58 pm |
  241. Tonya

In my opinion, it's the parents decision on what their kid eats but it's the governments decision on whether there is toys in the kids meals.

    April 30, 2010 at 6:58 pm |

This is a good idea all in all but, I don't think that the government should be worrying about situations like this. It is the parent's responcilbility to care for the child and control what it eats.

  243. Abby

I think that is the most ridiculous law i ever heard of. I am 15 and i still love those little toys you get in Happy Meals. I think the state of California can so something else to decrease children's obesity rate

    April 30, 2010 at 7:21 pm |
  244. Jacob

when i was young i ALWAYS got happy meals at McDonald's but I'm as thin as a twig, however taking out the toys in the happy meals wont decrease the amount of food sold instead they need to change the menu in some way not just make people angry by taking them out of the meal

PS. I'm a vegetarian so i barely eat fast food

    April 30, 2010 at 7:21 pm |
  245. Chloe

I think parents should be mainly responsible for what kids eat, but some parents are not responsible enough to make decisions for their kids. The government should tell us what's good to eat, and make the foods that are part of the obesity problem in America less convenient for the uncaring parents so their kids don't suffer from their lack of knowledge.

    April 30, 2010 at 7:26 pm |
  246. Noelle

Parents should be the decider when it comes to what the kids eat because they know what their kids' eating habits are and what's good for them. The government doensn't know what the kids eat. The kids just want to eat what tastes good, not neccisarily what's good for them.

    April 30, 2010 at 7:31 pm |
  247. paige

i think yeah that should be good because as a sister with a three year old brother my mom is always saying finish your food before you get your toy. but some people just dont understand how much of that can make them fat

    April 30, 2010 at 8:11 pm |
  248. Jon

I would think it is up to the children to make that decision. The kids should choose what they want to eat and they should exercise 60 minutes after they ate their meals.

    April 30, 2010 at 8:13 pm |
  249. Erich

I think that its BOTH the parents and the Government becuse the parents let there kids go there and or give them money to buy it and the governments becuse they should have created that a long time ago

I Believe That Paren't Should Most Definitly Decide What Their Children Eat. Letting Children Eat Whatever They Want Whenever They Want, Is Simply The Start To A Terrible And Unhealthy Future.

I think it should be up to the parents to decide, but i don't think it would be good if all the parent let the kids eat is junk, the kids should be able to have a little say in what they eat.

  255. Bethany

I think not including toys will help but sales may drop. The company is taking a bold step in childhood obesity, which is a serious issue. Children might not be so happy about this but it teaches them to eat better.

    April 30, 2010 at 9:27 pm |
  256. Shylow

The government should not be telling kids what they can and can not eat. Plus kids don't know what they are putting in there mouths half the time, so its up to there parents to choose what they can and can not eat.

    April 30, 2010 at 9:54 pm |
  257. Shauna

I believe it is the parents fault because they know more heathly choices than the children do, so then the children should be able to learn more about eating heathly in the future.

    April 30, 2010 at 10:13 pm |
  258. Hanne

I think that this is a great idea, because not only will it provide kids with an incentive to choose healthier foods, but it will cut down on the amount of material needed to make all those toys. I think though, that this needs not only to be present in one California county, but in all of California, and the United States if we really want to make progress with this issue. I think that this law should not be confined to high-calorie foods, because calorie intake is only one facet of what is causing obesity. I think that we should also be implementing this with foods with lower vitamin and nutrient levels as well.
I think parents should be teaching their kids how to choose to eat healthy for themselves. Introduce them to vegitarian recipies and encourage them to eat vegetables and fruits. I also think gardening is a great way to get kids more excited about eating healthy. Children are more likely to eat vegetables they grew themselves in the garden, than ones from the supermarket.

i think that rather than blaming the parents, you should take a look at the fast food industry... they're deep frying apples for crying out loud! rather than blaming everyone else, they should concentrate on the providers. I am sure they can somehow manage to cut the calories in their "kids" meals.

    April 30, 2010 at 10:46 pm |
  260. Jordan

I think it is unfair that the government is taking toys away if the calories is higher in the food. The people who should be responsible is the parents. The parents should teach their children to eat better. Why should the government take out toys when the government have bigger problems.

The government shouldn't interfere with this issue. It's not their job to control what kids do and don't eat. Besides, the parents buy the kid's food, and they don't care if it has a toy or not.

Many people say that the kids can choose what to eat. In many cases, as in mine, the parents didn't have time to go anywhere except a fast food place when I was too young to know any better. I'm not saying that you should blame your parents, I don't, I'm just saying that it's not our fault.

Wait i thought that we were supposed to be working on getting jobs if we do this not only will the people that make the toys will loose there jobs but also the fast food workers. Plus how ridiculos can we get. i mean really why take out the toys maybe set standards for helathier foods to be served.

    May 1, 2010 at 12:34 am |
  268. Bishop

I think this is a good idea because usually th kids only get the meal because it has a toy and usuallly they get done or break the toy within two days and end up wanting to go back for another.

    May 1, 2010 at 1:53 am |
  269. Mayan

Even though parents are the first and most important influence in what their children are eating and doing in order to keep healthy, if they are not doing their jobs then i feel that the government has a right and a responsibility to step in, especially since child obesity is so widespread.

So, I think that California should make a law that allows them to investigate how kids are eating because childhood obesity is a serious issue in our community and should be addressed with caution but also faced head-on so that kids don't die when they're like 16-50 years old.

  276. Daisy

i think the parents are responsible for what kids eat soo the parents are sopposed to take care of that and what do the toys have to do with kids being so obesed

    May 1, 2010 at 3:46 pm |
  277. Adi

I think that the age of the kid matters. I don't think kids that are 11 or 12 would like the toys. I'm 11 and think the toys are useless. But if we are talking about 6 or 7 year olds, the toys are the problem. If kids buy the meal just for the meal, McDonald's should be a toy shop. Kids will end up finishing the meal but if they do this often they might get overweight or even obese. Besides, I think that after a few days, the toy will end up in the dumpster. Also if toys in meals do stop, a lot of kids will stop going to some fast food companies. Because of this they might eat healthier foods and a lower percentage of kids will be overweight. But then the fast food restaurants will lose business and that will hurt the economy. Our economy is already in shambles and this will just make it worse. But I still believe that the ban is needed. Health is always more important than wealth.

    May 1, 2010 at 4:08 pm |

The government is taking over everything! Child obesity is a problem but taking away toys from fast food meals is crazy! It's the parents fault for buying it, so why are they taking it out on the kids?

  279. Stephanie

I think both the government and parents both should have a say in this. The parents need to teach the kids to make healthy choices. A toy in a 500+ calorie meal is like rewarding a child for doing something wrong. But I also think state governments should do something about child obesity in general- after all, fast food isn't the only thing causing the problem.

  280. Ashley

Parents. That is the key word here. If the parents don't want there kids eating that much junk than they wouldn't buy it for there kids. The basic line is that the government shouldn't control our food. Taking toys out of kids meals will not stop any thing. I think it would just cause a lot of unhappy kids parents to take action and do something about it so i don't think it would help at all.

    May 1, 2010 at 9:03 pm |
  281. Rachel

I believe that it might help in some ways. Mostly I think this would help by taking out the toys.

i think that kids should have an idea of why they have it "rated M" and if parents approve that its ok to play, then play!

    May 1, 2010 at 10:58 pm |
  283. Alyssa

I think parents should take role in their children's nutrition, it's not the government. They have better things to worry about.

    May 2, 2010 at 12:54 am |
  284. Chris

Taking out the toys is a great idea. Little kids love toys and food, so to them what is better than getting both from one place. If the toy variable is taken out of their options, then they could be more willing to go to healthier places that don't offer toys.

    May 2, 2010 at 1:12 am |
  285. cassie

The answer is parents. It's not anybody elses job to tell you how much to eat and when you quit but your self and your parents . You know its eiher unhealthy or healthy

    May 2, 2010 at 8:31 am |
  286. Trevor

I believe that parens should choose what there kids eat. Instead of taking out the toys (which I know many kids love) they should add a fun way to get excersize like freeze tag or hula hoop, to burn off those calories. The government should realise that they have no reason to be watching what kids eat.

    May 2, 2010 at 8:48 am |
  287. Noah

I feel that they should take the toys out with the most calories and put the toys on the healthiest meals. I also think the kids, parents, and school board should haave a vote and the ones with the most vots will in the meals.

    May 2, 2010 at 10:49 am |
  288. Noah

I feel that they should take the toys out of the most calorie meals. I think it is too far to make it illigal. I also think the kids, parents, and school should have a vote and the ones with the most votes and that are the healthiest should end up in the meals.

    May 2, 2010 at 10:54 am |

i think that parents have the falut that the kids are fat and thats how they don't like heathlier foods.

    May 2, 2010 at 12:02 pm |
  290. Andrew

the government should not be in charge of what kids eat. it should be up to the kids because its their choice on what they want to be like and their health

    May 2, 2010 at 12:06 pm |
  291. Betty

It's definitely parents' duty to lead a balabced diet and set up a good example for children."You can eat whatever you want but just don't eat too much."that's my mum always tells me.

    May 2, 2010 at 12:23 pm |
  292. Rachel

I agree and I disagree with this issue. I agree with it because the children and adults in America are over weight. I disagree with it because kids should know what to eat and what not to eat. I think that the parents and the government should have a part in this because some kids learn from their parents to eat unhealthy. Then their parents will just let them get the super unhealthy meals and not care! This wouldn't be helping anyone and the people of America would become more overweight!

    May 2, 2010 at 12:54 pm |
  293. Alliyah

I think its the company's and parents fault because the company is making the toys and the parents are teaching their kids bad eating habits.

    May 2, 2010 at 1:00 pm |
  294. Peyton

I think that restraunt should keep there toys because that is what kids eat at those places for is the toys.

    May 2, 2010 at 1:01 pm |
  295. Cora

i dont think that the workers should take out the toys because the little kids enjoy them because it keeps the occuipied. i dont think it would be fair for the little kids cause then they would complain to their parents and then the parents have to complain to the manager and it would just start a fight between everybody.

    May 2, 2010 at 1:19 pm |
  296. Ashley

I think it is the parents problem because they should be watching what their children eat and the goverment should not tell the children what to do and not putting toys with their meals will drop their sales which is not a good thing

    May 2, 2010 at 1:27 pm |
  297. Mason

It's hard to say who should choose something like this. Personally I think the government should decide. The issue of obesity is a major one and it need to be faced. I don't feel that kids and parents would be good for making this choice. Kids just want the toys and many parents don't understand how big the problem is and just want there kids to be happy. Personally, I think the government would be the best ones to make a decision like this only because they are less bias.

I don't think it is right to take out the toy's. The toy's don't have the calories,
the food does. So if they take anything out of happy meals,it should be the food.

    May 2, 2010 at 4:21 pm |
  302. Nate

I think taking the toys out of the happy meals could be a good and a bad idea because kids will still want the meal but be upset when there is no toy inside . It could be a good idea because kids will want the more healthy meals so they can have the toys .

This is the government trying to control every single aspect of our lives!!! It is not the toys that make kids get kids meals. They like the food so they get it. Anyway, the parents are responsible for what their kids eat. Not the government. Parents need to say no to fast food places. If they say that toys cannot be put into kids meals at fast food places, then they should also say that toys cannot be put into cereal boxes or puzzles on the back of them. That would make children get the sugary, unhealthy, cereal just like the "toy makes kids want to get the kids meals at fast food places. McDonalds and other fast food places could probably file a pretty good lawsuit about this.

I think it should be up to the parents to decide on what the kids because the food has calories but if you kids decide they will pick taste good them regardless of calories

yes, i think fast food resterants should take out the toys from kids meals because kids are getting obese just because they want the toys fron kids meals.

  317. Alisa

I think yes, they should take out the toys with thecertain amount of calories, because of all the obeseity and stuff going on kids should eat healthier...

    May 3, 2010 at 5:02 pm |
  318. Cally

I think they just shouldn't add as much grease to all of their food. My MOM sometimes only buys the kids meal so she can get the toy. I think they should keep the toy, but not add as much grease. 😦

    May 3, 2010 at 5:11 pm |
  319. Kyla

I think that the parents should be the main influence in a child's eating habits, but when it comes to school lunches government should draw the line. I really think that the government is trying to help childhood obesity, yet they are forgetting this is a "free" country. Their motives/intent is right, there execution is wrong.

    May 3, 2010 at 5:27 pm |
  320. sam

I think that the parents should say what there kids eat because if they don't the kids will eat food like chips, pop and get over weight.

    May 3, 2010 at 5:29 pm |
  321. Jaleigh

I think this is a great idea! If they kept this idea going, then maybe we wont have as much problems with obeseity and/or heath problems with younger kids.

    May 3, 2010 at 5:35 pm |
  322. Miranda

I think parents should be in charge of deciding what their children eat. Parents are supposed to have the child's best interest in mind. If the parent neglects to do their job, the child will most likely step in. No offense to the wonderful parents out there, but it seems to me that some important dietary choices are falling through the cracks.

    May 3, 2010 at 5:57 pm |
  323. Rebecca

I think kids should pick their own food. If they eat let them. I also think parents SHOULD monitor what kids eat, but not over powering

Well I think this law should be enforced. My cousin was all over the Mc Donald's. Why? He wanted the silly little flimsy action figure! I am all for this law!

    May 3, 2010 at 8:46 pm |
  325. Meghan

The only person who can control what children eat is the child themself! The parent can influence them, but the child has the power. The only reason kids get the happy meal is for the TOY!

    May 3, 2010 at 8:52 pm |
  326. Apurva

I think that childhood obesity is not only the child, but also the parents! Who buys the food? Your parents. Parents need to focus on getting the green in the kid. Not that I like the taste of artichoke better than french fries, but you have to. I know that there are some parents out there who give their kids Mc Donald's all the time. I don't know about you, but I'd eat the broccoli on my plate next time too!

    May 3, 2010 at 8:52 pm |

I don't think they should take the toys out because kids enjoy getting them and playing with them.

    May 3, 2010 at 9:57 pm |

Parents should pay attention to what their kids are putting in their mouths. If fast food places want to give away toys, let them, but parents should be the ones checking the calorie count, not the government.

i feel parents should chose the food for young kids under 10 but 10 and older you sould be able to pick your own choice

    May 4, 2010 at 8:05 am |

the toys are just for the kids entertainment. no one really cares as long as the kids are happy.

    May 4, 2010 at 9:22 am |

The law is not going to help anything. Some parents can't afford to have sit-down meals every day with their kids, so they go to a fast-food place for a quick meal. Whether they take away the toys or not kids will still eat there.

    May 4, 2010 at 10:39 am |
  333. Josh

Honestly i think kids will wind up getting the toy no matter what because parents will buy it for them anyway. The state should not be in charge of who gets toys and who doesnt

I think parents should decide. They should decide because it is them and their children who will be eating the food. The toy is just to advertise the restaurant and the movie or book the toy is representing.

    May 4, 2010 at 4:07 pm |
  336. Natasha

I think that parents should have the choice to say if they would like to include the toy in their child's meal. Parents know their child better than the state and they can tell if their child just wants to buy the meal for the toy. And even if the state takes away the toy, kids will still eat there because some parents dont like cooking or just can afford to make a nice healthy meal

    May 4, 2010 at 5:02 pm |
  337. Natasha

ok just because we take out the toy in the meals, doesn't mean that kids wont eat there!!! parents will still bring their kids to the fast food places because its quick and easy. Taking away toys wont help. All its going to do is let the fast food places make even MORE money. Because every company's goal is to make money, so they will just sell the toy as something extra and the parents will buy the toy for their begging child.

    May 4, 2010 at 5:09 pm |
  338. alexa

I think that its kinda crazy to take the toys out of kids meals why not just change some of the choices they have for there meals. so kids would be motivated to eat healther.

    May 4, 2010 at 5:33 pm |
  339. Teia

Oh my gosh, we are the country in the world with the highest child obeseity number! The PARENTS are responsible for what their kids eat not the kids themselves! Heck, if I only ate what I wanted, I'd end up, say like... 300 POUNDS! I'm glad I have parents who watch what I eat!

    May 4, 2010 at 5:35 pm |
  340. lexie

I think that they should just change some of the food choices and still offer the toys so kids will be motivated to eat healther plus they can have the enjoyment of playing with it while they are eating.

  341. christina

parents should be watching there kids diet,if they really cared, they would want them to stay healthy. :[

    May 4, 2010 at 6:35 pm |
  342. Kaelyn

The government is becoming to powerful! Parents should be in charge of what their kids eat. It's their decision, you can't just barge in and take control. If the parents want a toy for their kids then let them have it!

    May 4, 2010 at 6:35 pm |
  343. Zenon

Food should'nt be about the toy, it should be about the food. Sure there are healthier choices than your local fast food drive thru, but the government shouldn't put restrictions on what the children are allowed to eat. That should be left to the parents to decide.

    May 4, 2010 at 7:09 pm |
  344. Heather

I think that parents should be resonsible for what their child eats and if the child is eating unhealthy than they should stop going to that resturant.

    May 4, 2010 at 7:18 pm |
  345. Mindy

I think that parents should watch what there children eat. If the parents get there kids on a good diet, the kids will be more healthy through out there life. Then they will be more likely to make good decisions on there own when they are older.

    May 4, 2010 at 7:20 pm |
  346. Hallie

I think it is so sad that we live in a world where kids and people would give up their healthy bodies and life style for a stupid plastic toy. I don't think that many people would miss the toys and it would also be eco friendly to not be using so much plastic, so I think it is great that someone thought of this. It's not like we are giving up this huge, big, important thing, so it doesn't really matter. It would be amazing if it decreased the amount of unhealthy and overweight kids and toddlers who scarf down a whole hamburger, fries, and a drink made from corn syrup for a 50 cent knick knack.

    May 4, 2010 at 7:46 pm |
  347. Tetsu

Government's action like that is effective for improving kids healthy. Even though the best way is to solve it by family's self, There are also many families that have some particular problems between kids and parents. They want other hands to help it.

    May 4, 2010 at 7:51 pm |
  348. August

Parents should be watching what kids eat, and not just pick something thats quick and easy. And if you keep doing that the kids will think its ok to eat out all the time. The parents are teaching there children that junk food is something they should eat all the time.

    May 4, 2010 at 8:55 pm |
  349. olivia

I think parents should be responsible for what kids eat. like my mom, parents should keep fast food, and junk food to a minimum. I'm not saying we can't eat junk food, I'm saying just not as much junk food.

    May 4, 2010 at 9:00 pm |
  350. Patrick

I think that the parents should choose what their kids eat beacuse they know what is best for them.

    May 4, 2010 at 10:08 pm |
  351. Jacob

I think that it doesn't matter about the toy. MAybe if the restaurants made healthier food, and added the toy, as opposed to little this little that, ooh, high fructose corn syrup!!!!!!!! they buy cheaper, not the healthier, even though it might be more expensive. EAT HEALTHY, THIS IS NOT ROCKET SCIENCE PEOPLE!!!!!!!!!!!!

    May 4, 2010 at 10:55 pm |
  352. Ryanne

I think this could be a good idea and might not want to make kids have the mean as much but parents are in charge of buying the food and so as long as the parents buy the kids the food, then the kids will have to eat it with or without the toy.

    May 5, 2010 at 7:52 am |
  353. mike

they shouldn't take the toys away. because if you really think about it the main reason that the kids want the toy is because they want something to do while they are waiting for their parents.(because that is what i used to do when i was younger.)

    May 5, 2010 at 10:57 am |
  354. Brook

NO you can not take aaway the oys. i don't kow what my older brother would do without the toys in the happy meall!!!

    May 5, 2010 at 11:58 am |
  355. Kaitlyn

although fast food restrants re the main reason for obesity but if yew take away the toys what do we have to play with while we eat my little brother got a kids meal with no toy and he started crying he barely eats the meal i have to eat some of it because he plays with the toys i have been eating mcdonalds since i can remember that was my first solid food and i loved the toys and im skinny as can be im almost too skinny. so the toy isnt the reason for obestiy all i say is !!!!! SAVE THE TOY !!!!!

    May 5, 2010 at 12:05 pm |
  356. ;Dylan

I think a main factor in obesity is ignorance. Since when can you even find a calorie chart in a fast food place?

    May 5, 2010 at 12:46 pm |
  357. Pat

I think that it is a good idea because the kids like the meals for the toys. If you lower the calorie limit then the kids will still want the toy so they will pick that meal.

    May 5, 2010 at 12:52 pm |
  358. Calli

I don't feel like taking out the toys out of happy meals and other high calorie meals is stupid. Just because people take out the toys doesn't mean the kids wont buy the food. Its really the parents choice that decides. If parents don't want their kids to become fat then don't give them the food.

parents should be choosing what their kids are eating. They took their kids to Macdonalds for a reason. So they could eat. Parents should watch what their kids eat though.

The parents are responsibull for what children eat. I used to love getting the little toys. Obisity may be on the rise but no one seems to relise anirexia is also on the rise.

I think it's not right that toys be taken out of kids meals. Most kids don't care about the toy its the food they want. Greater actions must be taken if they want the obesity of the children in america to stop. 😛

I personally believe that parents should control what their children eat. Some families don't go out to fast food often, and their children enjoy the small treat.

    May 5, 2010 at 8:55 pm |
  367. Jozie

Fast food is just trying to get the kids to
eat more of there food to make more
money and i dont think its right. kids can gain alotta weight.
our parents should choice what we eat because
our parents know what we like and dont like
but of course most kids like junk food. but the parents also know what
healthy food there kids like. Our school lunch can be grate but come one theres no taco seasoning in the tacos!!!!!! now thats just my oppion.

    May 5, 2010 at 10:23 pm |
  368. Claire

I think it is a good idea to cut the toy. Kids just want the toy but have to eat their food for it. If you cut the toy, the kids wouldn't want the meal as much, which could lead to healthier eating.

    May 5, 2010 at 10:33 pm |
  369. Justin

I don't see what's wrong with the toys, just the meal.

    May 6, 2010 at 8:57 am |
  370. Lindsey

I believe that parents are responsible for what children eat. The parents can control how much they eat. I think it is stupid to take away the toys that come in kids meals because the kids don't have to eat all of the food. This is just ridiculous.

    May 6, 2010 at 9:38 am |
  371. adam

no matter if the toy is there or not the children will still eat the food. this is because the parents take the kids to these fast food resturant everyday. in turn they blow up like a balloon. so its the parents fault.

    May 6, 2010 at 9:38 am |
  372. Melissa

I don't think they should take out the toys from fast food meals for kids. I believe it is the parents job to make sure what their children are eating is healthy. I know that many kids wouldn't even eat their meal if it wasn't for the toy at the end. I think if the government is worried about childhood obesity, make sure the parents are doing right by giving their children healthy food. I do not think that is the way to do it.

    May 6, 2010 at 9:41 am |
  373. Jillian

I think when parents choose to take their children to Mc Donalds for a happy meal they are creating a bad habbit for them. When children recieve toys or play in the playpin there it makes them want to go their more and it plants a seed that will grow in the years to come.

    May 6, 2010 at 9:42 am |

I think that it is the parents responsible for what thier kids eat. like my mom didn't not stop me from eating at McDonalds. when i was a kid i wanted to go to McDonalds so that i could get a toy with my meal. what i get everytime was a chicken nugget happy meal, with honey mustard.now she regrets it because the only excersie i get is in P.E.

i think that taking the toys outta those meals is a good i dea it will make the kids not want the food so much and it will save the companys money and cut down on plastic use

  376. zack

I think it should be up to the parents to decide. I dont think the kids should have a huge part in it because if you are eating a kids meal then you are probably young and dont know about obesity yet. I also dont think the goverment should be able to regulate that either because america is a free country and we should be able to eat whateveer we want

    May 6, 2010 at 9:49 am |
  377. mark

i think its up to the parent what the kids eat, i don't think Mc Donalds should add in the newest hottest toy the kid is gona play with for 5 minutes and eat two fries though, but thats their right. quit blaming food corporations for your kid being fat, their the parent and the kid is their responsibility.

    May 6, 2010 at 9:50 am |
  378. Rachel

I don't think there is a problem with putting toys in kids meals. The kids may want the toy but they also want the food. If the parents don't mind getting them fast food and don't worry about their obesity, why should anyone else?

    May 6, 2010 at 9:53 am |
  379. Bethany

I believe that something has to be done about childhood obesity and since it appears that several parents don't seem to take the initiative to monitor their children's food choice, then it is a good idea to take out toys to give kids incentive to make healthier food choices.

    May 6, 2010 at 9:55 am |
  380. Cody

I think that the parents should have the final say in everything with their children. If its ok with the parents for their kids to eat happy meals from fast food restaurants, then let them. The government shouldnt have control over how the parents choose to raise their kids, especially when its about something like what and where they eat.

    May 6, 2010 at 9:57 am |
  381. Megan

I don't think toys are the root of the obesity problem. Taking the toys out of meals won't make people eat less fast food. Most people go to fast food places because it's fast and cheap, not because their kids get free toys. Instead of eliminating free toys, I think fast food restaurants should make more of an effort to give healthier options.

I think it is a good idea, but i think it it the parents job to moniture there child's health, not the goverment.

Whats next, are they gonna take away our right to have more than one scoop of ice cream? We have freedom here and i dont think its fair that they are taking away the toys. When i was little i didnt even eat half of my food because i just liked playing with the toy. afterward i played on the playground and burned more calories than i ate.

  384. katerina

i think that its what the government lets its people eat and the kids dont know what right from wrong as in what would happen to there body because everyboudys body is different.

    May 6, 2010 at 12:00 pm |
  385. Michael

I think it is the parents job to choose the kids food because kids don't know all the right foods to eat.

    May 6, 2010 at 1:42 pm |
  386. John

The parents are responsibill for what the children eat. I used to love getting the little toys. Obisity may be on the rise but no one seems to relise anirexia is also on the rise.

i think even though toys dont help kids learn doesnt mean you should take it away some kids cant live without it like if they dont have friends atleast they have toys

    May 6, 2010 at 1:51 pm |
  388. T J

Kids choose based on what they think tastes good, as the government would choose based on statistical data. Parents however, differ because every parent could be different meaning one parent could want there child to eat strictly veggitbles and fruits, while another parent could care less as long as there child can eat something.

I think parents should be responsible for what we eat. At first, I went towards the kids, but then realized how many better choices parents tend to make versus kids. I think parents should make all of the major eating decisions, leaving us with maybe a small snack to choose ourselves.

I think that "taking out the toys" is a great way to help prevent obesity in children and will most likely eat healthier when they eat healthier food.

    May 6, 2010 at 9:35 pm |
  396. Leslie

I don't think that that is a good idea. The sales might drop and then mcdonalds would lose money. Therefore less jobs. Do we want that? I think that we should make the toy requested. But i just think that is an unneccessary law!

    May 6, 2010 at 11:39 pm |
  397. Michelle

I like fast-food but I am not obesity because my parents taught me to eat moderately and burn calories through exercise. I think the most important thing in our lives is what our parents taught us.
It will be very sad if fast-food become illegal.

well, i personaly think that kids should eat fattening things sometimes... because you have got to remember that they are just kids and we also need to let the parents choose what their kids eat. sometimes, the obesity just runs in the family! and the toys are great and fun... its something the kids can play with!

I think the parents should choose what the kids eat. The kids cannot help it if they are hungry. If the child is obese, they should be eating less, or eating healthier. It's better if the parents eat healthy with them. Even the parents could make homemade food for them.

    May 7, 2010 at 3:29 pm |
  404. monica

I think that they should take the toy out of the kids meals. If the kids liked it they would still eat it but, if they only ate it for the toy they wouldnt eat it. so they wouldnt only buy it for the toy.

    May 7, 2010 at 4:38 pm |
  405. Ashley

I think that parents should decide what kids can and cannot eat because a healthy person is a happy person. your parents know what you go through because they know what best for u.

  406. FatAl

Obesceity is growing higher and higher. We should do whatever it takes to prevent more kids for becoming obecse, even if it means taking the toys out of meals. Maybe without the toys, no kids will want to eat the junk food that fast food serves.

    May 7, 2010 at 7:18 pm |
  407. Majed

I think this is a great law, and what America needs to (some what) prevent child obesity. The opposing side claims that parents should be in charge of what their children eat, but sometimes parents don't want to deal with the wining.

    May 7, 2010 at 8:49 pm |
  408. Megan

I don't think this will help at all, the toys in the meals are what makes getting the kids meal fun! it always makes my little brother Owen and Wyatt feel better when they get them. why not instead of taking the fun out of food, make the fast food meals healthier? it seems like no matter what they want to take the fun away for kids we have rights too!

    May 8, 2010 at 2:56 am |
  409. Anonymous

I believe this is a horrible idea! Wont this be bad for the buisnesses like McDonalds who need the toys to draw in more customers? If they take it away, why not just go to subway instead? I mean its healthier too! So without the toy a kids meal at McDonalds or Burger King is just as good or maybe even worse than a healthy Subway meal!

    May 8, 2010 at 12:44 pm |
  410. Jazzmyn

taking out the toys will NOT make the kid want the meal less. they probbly wont even know that the toy isnt there until they get the meal...anyways it should be up to the parent to decide how much they go to that fast-food place. then the desire to have the toy mite go down.

    May 8, 2010 at 2:49 pm |
  411. Sara

I don't think taking out the toys will help. Because the kids have been exposed to the food, they know how it tastes and they want more. I think parents should be the responsible ones because they need to be a good influence for their kids, and giving them fast food or junk food will not help.

    May 8, 2010 at 3:17 pm |
  412. Shawna

How the child obesity is increasing over the years; i think fast food restruants shouldn't ever even have any high calorie-type-foods. Everyone should think about there kids diets and make a right decision for them, and their kids life!

    May 8, 2010 at 9:18 pm |
  413. Erika=)

Of coarse a young child would want a toy inside their so called 'happy meal'. Take my sister for example, she always wants to go to McDonalds, so one day I asked her "why do you like their food so much" and sad to say, she answered "because they have cute dollies in them"! Just think, she's not the only child in the world with that has that message in their head!

    May 8, 2010 at 9:55 pm |
  414. Allison

Kids should be responsible for their own actions , because if they make a bad choice they can learn from it. If their parents decide everything they will not learn from their mistakes.

    May 9, 2010 at 8:10 am |
  415. Sydney.

I think the parent's should choose what the kid's eat. It is their job to make sure that they are eating healthy, in the end if the child ends up obese at age eight it is the parents fault, not the kids.

    May 9, 2010 at 12:21 pm |
  416. Ted

I think that parents should be mostly responsible for what their children eat with government incentive to do so. And that they should enforce healthy meals in places like schools.

    May 9, 2010 at 1:58 pm |
  417. Sammie

I think that this is a good idea. It will encourage kids to buy the healthier meals so that they can get the toy.

    May 10, 2010 at 10:09 am |
  418. Kassandra

I don't think that taking away toys from the kids meals would help that much. Even if there isn't a toy, the kids are still going to eat some of McDonald's food. Just because there wasn't a toy for them to play with for a few minutes doesn't mean they will start ordering different types of food either. Fries and other not so healthy other food will still be purchased.

    May 10, 2010 at 10:17 am |
  419. Lee

I think that this new thing is ridiculous. The only person that should have any control whatsoever other then themselves is there parents. Taking the toy out of the kids meal is not going to make a huge difference. The government should start with making school food healthy before they worry about fast food.

  425. Byrd

The toys in the meals aren't really the problem. It's the parents and their bad choice to let their kids eat out at a unhealthy fast food restaurant...

    May 11, 2010 at 8:55 am |
  426. David

i think kids should choose what they should eat because if they want to be fat let them if they don't theyshould eat good foods not bad and if they want to be both like in the summer not in the school year fat let them they are not doing anthing wrong but if they get to to fat chose what they should eat. Also remeber FAT IS NOT THE WAY TO LIVE. There are resons why the get made fun of. They get made fun of because people say they eat to much

I think that this a great law. I think that there are a lot of obesity kids these days and the rate is growing higher. I think that this is a good ides. I really think child obesity is a problem in America, and the government stepping in is one of the better things we can be doing to try and stop this. If parents don't take responsibility for what their children eat, at least other people will.

  432. eRiN

Some of the foods aren't healthy, however, the government is right to take away the toy thingys from unhealthy meals. Yet, I continue to believe that parents should be in charge of what kids eat because we eat what we like, and most of the time its unhealthy.

    May 12, 2010 at 2:10 pm |
  433. Madeleine

I think that the government is trying to do a good job in trying to keep the children healthy, but I think that its the parents responsibility to keep there children healthy. I think this will help a lot of children enjoy their lives more because they are able to do more things and some kids get made fun of for their weight.

    May 12, 2010 at 2:11 pm |

I think that it is the parent's job to keep the kids on track with the right eating habits, but the children should start and make some decisions, because the parents won't be right by there side everyday 24/7!!

i think i am old enough to decide what to eat, maybe sometimes my parents will advice me to eat good things. i don't really think government has right kill me with healthy food

I think the parents should always know what their children eat at all times! How do you think child obesity started?

    May 13, 2010 at 9:12 pm |
  437. Pat

It should be up to parents to decide what younger kids eat, but older kids have more knowledge about food and what it does so they should be able to eat what they want as long as they know the concenquences if they choose to eat unhealthy foods. But then again... most people really dont care.

    May 14, 2010 at 8:26 am |
  438. Jessica (:

I think this is a good idea because then children will pick meals with toys and they'll be healthier but at the same time I think its more of the parents choice.

    May 14, 2010 at 8:58 am |
  439. Jess

I think the parents should at least have a say in what their kids eat. It's ok for parents to let their kids eat fast food every once in a while, but giving it to them whenever they want I think just makes it seem like they don't care what their kids do and they'll give them whatever they want to eat.

I think it is everyone's fault. (government, kids, and parents.)
The government is in charge of making laws. They can say it is you can't put too much calorie and if they do,bann the toys. Most children
Get kid's meal because of the toys.Parents:For example, if you are a little kid,and little kids do not know about bad foods and good foods,
the arents need to choose. If they don't care about if their child getting fat, the parents buy the kid's meal.Kids:Like me, my parents taught me everything about junk foods and good foods. So now,I pick healthy foods. So I think that the kids should also responsible about wat they eat.

    May 16, 2010 at 10:57 pm |
  446. Kyle

I think that the kids should be able to choose what they eat. They are the ones who have to eat it, so it should be something they like. I don't mean that they should be allowed to eat junk food whenever they want, but they shouldn't have to eat brussel sprouts and asparagus for the rest of their lives.

    May 17, 2010 at 9:02 am |
  447. Olivia

We should do our best to educate kids and parents about the dangers of eating unhealthy, because that is our responsibility. Why are we enforcing a toy law when the real issue is the amount of calories? It is the parents responsibility to ensure a child's health and safety. Not the government's.

    May 17, 2010 at 9:49 am |
  448. Olivia

This law just shows how terrible our social expectations are becoming. It is no longer the "norm" to have a father in the household or to have good judgements on our own health. Shouldnt we be putting restrictions on food calories instead of a silly tag-along toy. Or is it easier to restrict the toy?

    May 17, 2010 at 10:05 am |
  449. Olivia

America is obese, but does that mean we try to make our restuarants healthier with government encouragement? No, instead we put restrictions on toys, because toys come with the meal. I think kids will still eat the meal, they just wont have anything to play with to help them loose the weight they gain eating the food.

    May 17, 2010 at 10:07 am |
  450. Olivia

This law only shows how irresponsible our parents have gradually become, because this is a parent responsibility. What would our forefathers say? They built this country on freedom and morals, and all we are encouraging by making this law is that the parents who dont care about their children's health already can now care even less because the government is taking care of it.

    May 17, 2010 at 10:11 am |
  451. Olivia

The restuarant has the freedom to make food however they want, it is the child's choice and the parents' judgement that is making all this so popular. I think we should focus on educating our population.

    May 17, 2010 at 10:14 am |
  452. Erika=)

Personally, I KNOW that is why kids these days are always asking their parents if they can go to McDonalds, Burger King, or any other fast food restaurant. Sad to say, this definately is one of the main causes for childhood obesity and if we don't make this a law, then it will all get worse.

    May 17, 2010 at 4:14 pm |

i think tha pearents should choose wut food kids should eat because most kids in the united states are over wight and not being active and thats the falt of fast food and jonk food that kids like to eat.

    May 19, 2010 at 11:00 am |
  458. Brett

This is a bad idea. I think it is the child's decision for eating the food too much. The parents are also at fault for not trying to prevent their child from obesity. Making toys illegal with the meal will not do a much of a better job.

    May 20, 2010 at 10:48 am |
  459. Mason

This law would be useless because the kids parents would buy the video games anyways so this law would be a waste of time.

    May 20, 2010 at 10:50 am |
  460. Lindsay

I believe that parents should decide what their kids eat because they are responsible for their kids' lives up until they are 18 years old, so they should make sure that their children eat the right kinds of food that will keep them healthy. I honestly don't agree with fast-food restaurants excluding the toy from a kid's meal because it would make the restaurant lose a lot of customers and money, but I do think that it will help fight child obesity.

Kids should pick if they want toys or not because then you don't have to get one and you're sibling can have one. If they want it or not so it does not matter if you want one or not and you can just go home and eat with a toy or not. 😉

Who cares if it's the parent's decision what the kids eat!? The meals along with the toys belong to the fast food company, and if they feel it will help the community by benifitting children's eating habits and reducing obesity, then is it the parents' prerogative to protest or complain that fast food restaurants aren't putting toys in some meals anymore?? Don't get me wrong, I do think parents have the final say, but an incentive from the company is not a bad or damaging thing in any way.

If a kid wants a hamburger he wants a hamburger. I personally don't think that kid get food from fast food areas just to get a toy. If little kids are introduce to fast food when they are little they get addicted to it. My little brother and sister for example go to Mc Donalds to eat and play on the play ground they dont even care about the toys they get with there happy meal. Even if we go through the drive thru there happy. But what ever they do they should take out the play grounds. That is one way to keep them fit after they eat. Because they burn the fat off right away. In my opinion I think that taking the toys away wount do anything to help with obesity.

I think that taking the toys out of the happy meals is not going to solve anything. I think that it is the parents falt that there child is over weight, I don't think that the kids even like the toys because they are cheap plactice garbige. But so what if you do like them, i think if you want one you should get one and eat as much as you want.

the kids like the toys, so we shouldn't take them out. its the matter of the parenting. the parents should treat it like a reward for being good for a week or two. its not the kids fault, its the parents.

the children like the toys, so we shouldn't take them out. it's not the kid's fault for gettin bigger for eating the food, it's the parents fault for buying the food for the kid. its a matter of the parenting that will control it all. the parents can use these meals with the toys as a reward for being good for a week or two.

In my opion parents should decide what kids should eat .
because their are many parents want their children to eat the right
    healthy foods,

I think that it isn’t the governments say in the matter and that the parents should be more responsible about what their kids are eating.

they should not take out toys because it is not right doing toys only they should just not put camertail of that resteranty.:)

I think that they should reward kids with a toy if they choose a healthy meal. Ultimately, parents choose what their childre

I think that they should take the toys out because kids go for the toy. On TV when they advertise places like Burger King they advertise the new toy that you can get when you order a kids meal. Childhood obesity is starting to take over the country and we are the future so when we get older all of the Adults will be Obese to. By taking away the toy from the kids meal, Kids won't feel like they would want the burger anymore. They go for the toy. The fast food restraints wouldn't be happy with this because they will lose a lot of business. I think this law is great.

I think it's a good idea. Though it may not discourage people from buying the crap that is so unhealthy. Parents should be in charge of their kids' health. If they feed them crappy food all their childhood they will probobly eat crap when they are older. Parents out there should set an example for their kids. FEED THEM HEALTHY FOOD!!!

I Agree with this, when I was little I usually just wanted the meal for the cool toy. It didn't matter what the meal really was I just wanted the toy. I think they should include toys in meals that are better for you, as a reward for eatig healthier. For who should make the desion of what kid should eat, I think there parents should choose what there kids should eat and be an example to there kids by eattig healthy so there kids want to try some healthy food too!

I think this idea will definatly make kids less obese because kids want the toys and they get a high calorie & maybe some apples. I'm not sure if those apples are even healthy.

I think there starting to make progress on helping obesity. To me I think it's the parents job to choose what there kid eats. So kids can be healthier. If kids choose what to eat then they wouldbe eating alot of fast food and sweets.

I think government shouldnt get to choose what us kids eat unless they know the community and the obisity rate. And if kids chose what they eat they will chose junk food. I think parents should chose, because they know what their children like to eat.And would not give junk food, I personaly love fruit i wish we had more fruit and less desert.

I think this would be good because kids are drawn to eat these bad foods because they want the toy inside and if they are not there they are tempted not to buy it.

That could possibly help the kids out. Whenever i used to go to McDonalds or Burger King, I was so excited for the toy in the bag. I mean, that was just me. It differs on the type of child, plus the type of parent. If the parents just went out and bought the kids the food, they would just become obese. The kid would want it because they know te parent would buy it for them. Plus those toys are a benefit.

I think this is a GREAT idea because I know as I was a kid i know i would only want to go to a certain resteraunt because they had this cool toy I wanted. Now that they are taking out the toys kids will settle for healthier places like Panera or Noodles and Co. Or even one the toys are gone they could see theres no point in going to this place because there is nothing to look forward to. I do addmit, the food is usually good but once you stop eating it you don't crave it or even want it anymore. Again, I love this idea. I think they should make is a national law. That will really help people and I think it will be really great in Chicago, espeacially.

i think that it`s a great idea because i see little kids all around going to certain restaurants because of the toy inside the meal and they would not realize what they`re eating, because they would be too interested in the toy.

It's not the governments children, so why do they make a law about what they can eat thats the parents job.

I think the goverment should take out the toys because it's not good that kids want to go to a place just for the toys.

Kids should watch what their eating, but the parents are really the ones who should choose. They're the ones who do the grocery shopping, take their kids out to restaurants, and pack the lunches that their kids will eat at school. If the parents know what's good for their kids, they should be the ones picking the right food for them.

i think it's the kids's responsibility to keep track of what they eat, they are the ones who are eating the things, not their parents, or the government. and they have the ability to control what they eat and how much they eat.

toys in snacks are just something to lore kids in to getting the meal. It is a horrible meal that makes throw up.

  506. Rebecca

I think it is right but also wrong. I think it is wrong because some kids like the toys that are in their meals. I think it is right because then they will not justy come for the toys. although they might lose some buisness because kids are a big customer.

    June 14, 2010 at 11:28 am |
  507. Alex

I think it's the parents responsibility to make sure their kids don't eat at McDonalds all the time. The toys are cheap and break in like 2 seconds anyway. No kid really goes for the toys, they just want french fries.

its really not the states fault i mean the kids are the ones who eat it and their parents let them

i think it is the parents job to tell their kids what to eat. but they should not take toys out of meals becouse if the child's parent dosen't want them eating those meals then they will not take them to that place.

    June 14, 2010 at 11:46 am |

I think it is a great idea becasue less kids will become over weight from the food and they are so young.

It's the Parents fault that their kids are eating garbage at these restaurants and the toys in the kids meals in stuff just makes the chance, that kids will get more obese than stay fit.

I think that parent should tell ther kid what and what not to eat becase we are kind of still young.

    June 18, 2010 at 9:26 am |

I think this is a good idea because it makes the good food (Its not good but it is better) more apealing to the kids so they might chose it over the outher
    But the parents should reglulate

i chose parent but thats not a fair question , very few parents can say not to a child asking for a kids meal with the cute litle toy especially after theyve seen how happy it makes them , so the government should try to help
