Milestone or Mistake?

What do you think of President Obama's health reform legislation?

Last night, when the U.S. House of Representatives approved the Senate's health reform bill, President Obama's top priority for the country was headed to his desk to become law.  (He's scheduled to sign it on Tuesday.)

There's still a package of changes to the deal that may or may not pass the Senate.  But what is certain is that an $875 billion overhaul of the nation's health care system - something that is said to impact every American - will take effect.

What do you think about it?

I'm not happy with the new bill as I think its a mistake. It's like you get sick on friday you'll be paid Monday thru Thursday. You Go to doctor a they'll pay doctor b. You break your leg they'll fix your foot. This is the worst thing congress has done. The world will end in 2012 just you wait.

the healthcare reform that was passed is not the answer to problems our current healthcare system has. i dont see how they passed it seeing as how most of the people dont even want healthcare. its unconstitutional.

I'm glad that the Senate's health reform bill passed the U.S. House of Representatives.I'm pretty sure that the package of changes to the deal WILL PASS the Senate. And if it doesn't pass which it WILL... Then there has to be a mistake...

I think that it will be a good option for the citizens of the United States because this wont let the health insurance companies raise prices for there costumers and they could even gain more people to there insurance.

I believe this law is horrible. It will not help ANYONE! And if Obama thinks it's a good idea he's wrong. Who has it right, me and the rest of the world, or him?

I believe health care reform bill will do good in America, In South Korea, health care reform help poors so that they can get medical treatment in cheap price. I heard in America, going to the doctors is very expensive. I hope this law could help American poors so that they can get medical treatment when they need one.

i think that it is neither milestone or mistake i just think that it is something to pass it does have importance we just dont know what important thing it will be or what the outcome of it ....lets hope it is good

im kind of in between this, because we dont know how effective it is yet, or how destructive it will be. we can't just say this law is bad right away! maybe it is, maybe it isnt. give the law a chance.

i understand that we, "the people," choose our representatives, but i think this bill is way too big to not let the actual people vote for it. the representatives who are voting for this won't be affected by it very much, so why should they get to choose? it seems like a good idea in some ways, but i think the government went about it all the wrong way.

I think it's a good thing, because then people can't go into the hospital and say that they can't afford insurance, and then get something paid for them. Then, hospitals can say that you have an option for health insurance.

i think passing the bill would be a good idea for people of the us because a good amount of people use health insurance, this might als help the health insurence companies gain more peopls. because there prices would not raise up all the way.

I think it's a mistake because where going to be paying through taxes for people's insurance who don't work and will have insurance.

I think this is a good idea because this will definetly help our economy in the long run. Yes at first it'll be shaky but hey you have to start somewhere.

I think this was a huge mistake. I think that the more taxes the more people that will be in need of money especially for the people who don't use it will have to pay for it.

I think that it isn't a good choice for the people and that we should all just make a new one that the people accually like!

Are you kidding me!!!! this is a huge mistake I love obama but this is a pretty bad idea. All were going to do is pay for others who want to be selfish who get a nice fat paycheck and live free off the government. Whoohoooo cant wait ):

I think that the Health Care Bill is an important asset to our economy it will provide health care for people who cant afford it and i think people are being selfish about not wanting it passed.

This is a milestone for me and my family, without it, if my father lost his insurance, he could not be insured because of previous medical conditions that can not affect him anymore. the same goes with my mother's friend who had cancer several years ago. Sure, it costs a TON, but it is a leap in the right direction.

    March 22, 2010 at 8:06 pm |
  21. Tommy

I think its a mistake, because our taxes are going to go up. Then that money is going to go to pay for the people who can't afford healthcare. Then more people are going to go to the doctor. This will create more waiting in the waiting room and longer lines to get treated.

Its a milestone in american history but, people still in the country still needs the health care prices lowered to their rank of pay. and if they don't agree, they will not support any more of the bills trying to be passed in congress.

i dont really know how bad or how good it will be to pass this bill because its not really making people jump for joy now, but maybe when they pass the bill it would change the way people feel about it.

    March 22, 2010 at 9:09 pm |
  24. Radke

How anyone could possibly agree that this is best for our country is beyond me! We are a country under attack, including from within. Not only does this completely violate freedom by having too much government, but it also violates democracy. This was not a bill passed by the people, and very few people I know wanted this to happen!

    March 22, 2010 at 9:12 pm |
  25. Elisabeth

i think that passing this bill is bad cause the government would be controlling it. i think that the people of the United States should decide whether or not to have to get health care. i think that we the people of the United States should vote on this bill.

    March 22, 2010 at 9:14 pm |
  26. Emma

I think that some people may think the bill is good but there seems to be a lot of people who disagree with it. I think if there is that many people who disagree maybe the senate should reconsider it because it could make some problesm with in the U.S.

  28. Alexandra

I think it was a huge mistake. Because all it's going to do is take more out of our pay check and raise taxes and it's all because of the people that don't have health care.

My thought on this "reform" is if it takes away and blocks some or certain medicare beneficiaries then some of my relatives may die they may not...but thats not only why im against it. I'm against it because we were doing fine without it. it's a horrible idea and well this is it this nation may not recover...

The number of uninsured American citizens has grown to over 45 million and health care has become increasingly unaffordable for the American people. Both of these are reason to support the Health Care Reform. Although both are very true, there isn't a single government agency or division that runs efficiently; do we really want one of these organizations handling something as complex as health care?

  32. jeff

i believe that this country is capable of so much i believe health care isnt something we need to be involved in now. We are too far in debt with money and war that this health care is going to put us further behind in progress

    March 22, 2010 at 9:44 pm |
  33. Rex

Everyone says Canada is way ahead of everybody and yeah, it is real cheap, just as long as you're willing to wait 2-3 months for actual health care. Typical Obama though, to through more money at places it isn't needed.

I think the bill is a mistake. President Obama has already spent trillions of dollars already that hasen't done anything only giving the government a few more jobs. President Obama is the president who has spent the most money. This means the taxes are going to go up. America can't even pay for the first bill Obama has made. Obama is spending money that this economy does not even have. This is just putting us in more debit.

    March 22, 2010 at 10:06 pm |
  37. Fay

why should we pay for people who are too lazy to work, or have medicle problems? thats what a family is for! to help you out! this is the worst idea obama has made, yet!

  38. Natalie

This bill was a major mistake. It's not fair to the over 60% of Americans who didn' wanted want it and saif it loud and clear. The preident and the Democrats in congress didn't even listen to us. Instead, they shoved it down oour throats. The American will have to face the consequences now.

    March 22, 2010 at 10:11 pm |
  39. Gary

I think that the politicians in Washington should stop bickering over the bill and pass it. Any reform will improve what we have now. Some politicians care too much about getting reelected to cross party lines and reach a good compromise. If the politicians listened to the people and vote for what will help America, not what will help themselves, everything will be better

This is not a government takeover - far from it. You cannot call it that. There isn't even a public option in this bill.

I say that this is a good bill. This allows for many Americans to have easier access to health insurance, which means no more discrimination based on so called "pre-existing conditions."

As a Korean physician, in my view, national healthcare system which President Obama wants strongly, could be harmful to both patients and doctors. I can make sure that all insurance fees will be controlled by bureaucracies and goverment officials. Futhermore, medical demands wil be jumping up progressively as patients can get access to doctors more easily. Guess what? The some of insurance fee will be possessed by bureaucracies' pockets and someone who likes to go to doctors enjoying hospital shopping. That's what happens in Korea.

Obama did a great job because many Americans are very painful about the health care. He made the decision which means that the debate is finished. Now people don't need to care about it.

Hey, what's wrong with a social or in other words "welfare" state? I'm from Germany and here it's totally normal to pay for others. I think everyone who has enough money has a kind of moral duty to pay for people who may need it. Where is the problem, just the primitive avarice? Change your mind for a better world!

As a 20 year old college student, who was unemployed due to my job (in the health care industry, working for a high-profile medical equipment company) was shipped to India. At that time I lost all medical benefits, and the Cobra package I was offered cost more than the amount of unemployment I receive in a month-and-a-half. I have preexisting conditions and was turned down by my mothers insurance company, to go BACK on her policy due to my pre-existing conditions. I look forward to being back on her insurance policy when this bill is signed, and I thank God and Barak Obama for pushing so hard for people like me to gain their health insurance back. I am sick of spending upwards of $300 a month on my prescriptions paying out of pocket!!

As an educator I am disappointed that you do not have any of the specifics of the bill in your report. You only have the controversy. You ask students to vote on what they think about the bill without any information other than the posturing from the politicians. You don't even have links to where they can find out more information about the bill. Many people who talk about it, negative or positive don't even know what they are talking about. Help us educate here!!!!!

I think we should wait for some time and see if this'll work out. You can't say that this law is good or bad now, just like you don't know if someone will be a good friend the first time you meet him/her.

I think Health Care is a milestone. I come from country (Taiwan) that have Health Care. It's really convenient. Just think of this, you don't have to pay big amount of money when you go to the doctor. It'll be great for the poor who have serious disease. That really help!

    March 23, 2010 at 6:56 am |
  48. Holly

Some of the issues they talked about don't seem fair like having to have to pay for health care even though you don't want to pay for it or getting fined for not paying. If you don't want health care you shouldn't have to pay for it.

I think that there are good points in this and bad as well. Not everyone will agree, just like any of the other laws or bills. It will help people who couldn't normally afford to go the hospital, or a doctor. The taxes would be the down side. It's already hard enough for some people, to pay these taxes. I guess we will just have wait for outcome, and hope for the best.

This is not helping the current problems of our nation... we are going to go into another depression because of it. President Obama should be working to patch up previous holes in our economy and nation, before he starts creating a new one.

  53. Brendan

I'm glad that Obama feels he can buy off votes just to guarantee passage of a bill that clearly is a destructive step in this country's journey. Is it really a good idea to spend more money that the country doesn't have? The entire country may need a hospital visit just to deal with the stress that our current president continually subjects us to.

I think it is a mistake and might not be as worthy because it will cause an economic downpour but it is paid over 10 years. It might also be worse for people with money because i think they have to pay more money for while poor people or people with no health insurance, they dont have to pay.

  64. Mr. Johnson's 4th Grade Class

We were always taught that our elected officials were elected to do the will of the people. With more than 300 million Americans and this bill only insuring 34 million, how can this bill be the will of the majority? Mr. Obama reminds us of Robin Hood, stealing from the rich to give to the poor. Nobel? Maybe. Fair? No Way!

    March 23, 2010 at 9:07 am |
  65. Heath

The Senate and House will lose the Democratic Majority as soon as votes are counted in each of their elections. Then the will of the people will truly be followed. Fined for NOT having health care? It's my right not to have health care if I choose.

    March 23, 2010 at 9:10 am |
  66. Gage

I think that this Health Care bill is going to ruin our economy. It is already bad enough but with this new bill put in place its only going to get worse. Even with the American people who need it to help them maybe if they would of applied themselves in there school work, got better jobs, and and gone to college then maybe they wouldn't need this bill to help them now. This bill will just make us weaker as a country which we can not have done. When you show weakness that shows that you can be picked apart and even though we have a strong military we dont have a strong enough one to take on something as big as a war here in our own terf.

Honestly, I believe this Health Care Bill is a total mistake. I'm pretty sure most of us don't have the money to pay all those taxes for it. Billions of dollars we don't even have goes straight to others who also don't have money to afford insurance once they walk into the hospital needing medical help? Now that is insane.

I think oboma is a bad person for taking away health care for the poor people. i think that the people who need to go to the doctors and the people who cant afford to go to the doctors will be very upset because obama got rid of health care. people cant afford to spend the monet and they need health care. Presedent Obama is taking everything away from us that presedent bush did not. Also just to bring this up i need to say that the presedent obama is raising the taxes also that the people who voted for obama should feel that they are not good for voteing for obama because the people who voted for obama there taxes are also going up. the people who voted for obama are there health care and there taxes are are going up and the taxes are raised also.

i think, their intention can be MILESTONE. (First of all, I`m S. Korean) Let us look at medical insurance of South Korea. That is very helpful for common people. In most cases, public health administration of S. Korea has been supported medical charge. I heard that, US health insurance is very expensive. Unfortunatly the masses of US can`t pay insurance fee. So, they can`t see a doctor because they can`t pay medical charge without insurance. Why don`t they(U. S. Ministry of Health) support medical charge for populace? I think, they are right.

I think this is a very big mistake. The government is taking over the country in making us have universal healthcare. More than sixty percent of the people in the nation oppose this bill. I thought this was a democracy. They should let the people vote and not just the people elected to vote.

    March 23, 2010 at 10:14 am |
  94. Chris

I think this bill could be one of the worst bills of all time. We should just keep it the way it is.

    March 23, 2010 at 10:15 am |
  95. Shanna

This healthcare plan is a mistake because if people want to have enough money for healthcare, they need to get an education and then get a job. The government should not be giving people free things just because they were too lazy to earn money for themselves.

    March 23, 2010 at 10:16 am |
  96. Lizzy

I think that the health care bill is a mistake. The president shouldnt have to give the underprivledged healthcare. The people who dodnt have probably cant afford it because they decided not to get a good education and job. Becuase of this bill, people who have healthcare are going to lose it.

    March 23, 2010 at 10:17 am |
  97. Amari

Some of it is a mistake && some of it is a milestone. It is good that people who can not afford health car will be able to get it but for those of us who can afford it and already have it, it will cost more or we will lose it.

    March 23, 2010 at 10:17 am |
  98. Nick

I think it's a good thing because some people have lost their jobs and the coverage that came with it. Who are we to deny them something based on them losing their job, something they couldn't control.

    March 23, 2010 at 10:17 am |
  99. Sam

I think that passing this bill is a mistake. While some believe this bill will help with the health care issue, it is throwing away alot of money that could be used for other uses. By passing this bill the government is just using money like they have plenty of it.

    March 23, 2010 at 10:18 am |
  100. McKinley

I think it is a huge mistake! It won't stimulate our economy like they'd hope, instead it will cost us more money in the long run! The Healthcare Reform Bill is just another one of Obama's "Changes" leading us to Communism.

    March 23, 2010 at 10:18 am |
  101. Claire

I think that this is a bad idea because then people that have healthcare will lose it and most likely the country will go bankrupt. I mean it is good everyone gets to have healthcare now but some people actually worked for it. I'm just saying I don't think it's fair to give some people healthcare when they didn't try at school and haven't made a move to get a job.

    March 23, 2010 at 10:20 am |
  102. Reid

It is one of the biggest mistakes that a president has ever made in there term. If people wanted Health Care then they should get a job and buy it for them self's. They cant have everything handed to them in there life. If they dont try in life then they should not be allowed to get health care from the government.

    March 23, 2010 at 10:20 am |

I think the health care bill is a step in the right direction but needs improvement.

    March 23, 2010 at 10:20 am |

Personally, I am for the healthcare bill. As a younq african american, I understand why it is important for the bill. I personally do not need the extra help, I already have health care, but I know that others are'nt as lucky as I am.

    March 23, 2010 at 10:21 am |
  105. Abby

I think this is a very big mistake because most people who need the bill had messed around in school and droped out and ended up not getting a job. Most people who don't need it or want it have jobs and heath care, but if the bill is passed it could jeapordize there heath care plan.

    March 23, 2010 at 10:21 am |
  106. Parris

I personally support this bill. Some people aren't as fortunate as others and can't afford healthcare or is just having rough times in their life. Everyone who is against the bill is ignorant because the bill is basically helping others. Would you want others to be hurt and can't get taken care of?

I think that this is a very big mistake. It is important that people get healthcare but we need to look at other ways for people to get it. I don't think it's fair to put one big law on everybody when only some people really need it.

    March 23, 2010 at 10:24 am |
  109. savanna

I think that in some caeses the bill is a very good idea, but it puts the country in even more debt. The government really needs to put the pros and cons into prospective on this before passing the bill into a law

    March 23, 2010 at 10:26 am |
  110. Luke

I believe that the passing of this bill is a huge milestone for America. I believe that this will open up new ideas and will help with the support of Obama's old ones. I completely support it, and I believe it will help in the long run. I understand peoples objections towards it, but I think it is sort of selfish. They say that they don't want to pay for other peoples healthcare, but I believe that we are all in this together. We should help each other out. Not everyone gets the same opportunities as others, and I think that we should understand this.

This healthcare bill is a huge mistake. Well, not if you want a european scoacialist Healthcare system! This bill will keep the insurance companies from being able to make a living. Soon the insurance companies will crumble, and the Government will take complete control of healthcare. Hmm...... what does that sound like.......... how about COMMUNISM!?! Or SOACIALISM!!!!

    March 23, 2010 at 10:45 am |

I think that the health care reform bill will be helpful and productive in the long run even though a lot of people strongly disagree.

i think that people just need to adapt to the change that is currently happening. Whether this bill being passed will positivley or negatively effect our country we will soon find out.

  118. Shelby

As a daughter of a father who has had illness half his life, this healthcare plan is a milstone. The only people who believe this is a mistake is those who are not ill or who can afford great insurance..... good for them, but unfortunately most of the population can not afford it. This isn't because they are lazy its because not having healthcare is like a domino effect, If someone gets really ill thay won't go to the doctor. It's to expensive. Then eventually it progresses to the point where extremes need to be taken and they get put out of a job because they let something small get out of hand.

    March 23, 2010 at 10:57 am |
  119. kimley

I belive that the health care bill is a milestone because it means that kids get to stay on their parents plan til their 26 which means it's one less payment that young adults have to pay for!!!

I'd say its a misatke, The US national debt is 12 trillion dollars, and is rising at about one hundred-thousand dollars per second,we don't need another trillion added to it.

  121. Haylee

In my opinion, this law should not be passed. Our country is the one country that wants everyone to be equal and our country is the one that wants everyone to have equal rights. If this is true, why is our very own president trying to give some people exactly what they want for free, but nothing to the people who actually work and have jobs to get what they need for daily survival? This is unlawful and should cause the impeachment of our president.

The problem with the Health Care Bill is that the government will be running it. What ever happened to democracy? This is not democracy. We didn't have a choice in whether or not the bill passed. I don't think the majority of Americans even know what Congress just passed and what the bill is comprised of. It's kind of scary, if you ask me. If people can't afford health insurance, they have to pay a fine on top of that now? I don't think George Washington or Thomas Jefferson would have approved of this...

In my opinon the US House of Representatives should not have passed a health care reform bill. The people who have a job should not be paying for the health care of the people who don't! If the people who don't have a job don't try then it's their own fault. So why should we be paying for them if they don't even try? Right now it is hard to pay for all the people on Medicade. We will have to raise taxes and that means more people will not buy as expinsive things.

    March 23, 2010 at 11:08 am |
  136. shayaan

The health care plan has an advantage and disadvantage.
the advantage helps peoplw who dont have health care. The disadvantage is that it uses alot of money from the government, so our taxes are going higher. Most people wanted this to happen and some people didn't want this to happen

    March 23, 2010 at 11:10 am |

A simple answer would be to eliminate frivolous lawsuits, allow the consumer to buy across state lines and put the patients in charge of themselves. Americans can choose for themselves they don't need the government as a nanny.

  139. Jared

This health care bill that has passed is unconstitutional! The gov't is trying to rule other peoples lives and without the peoples say in things. Pres. Obama is trying to do whatever he wants just because he is in the highest office in the United States. This is wrong!!!!! the United States is fast approaching it's 65 GDP per capita! The US will go over the debt limit if the pres signs this. The US in not superman....we can crash and burn! Personally...I don't want the gov't saying what i can and can't do.

I think that Obama's Health care bill is a huge mistake, I belive that he needs to think more about what the people. If he cared about what the American people want he would not have passed that bill into law. To me he is spending more money that we don't have. This series of events, reminds me of Nixon,

    March 23, 2010 at 11:43 am |
  141. Aaron

I think that most people should be alright with this. Many people in American have problems paying for their medical bills, but still have serious illnesses that have to be dealt with. So Im sure that people with money can spare a few hundred dollars over time to help secure people.

  142. A person

This was a terrible idea to pass this bill. It'll make the lower class' healthcare worse, and the upper class' healthcare better. A really terrible idea on Obama's side and the Senate's side. It's like getting two games, one expensive, the other cheap, and making the more expensive one better and the cheaper one worse. It's just unfair to the middle and lower classes. The rich always get the better treatment.

Many people think that the helth care reform is a good thing, but many others think it is bad. If more people think it is bad than good, mabey they should rethink this bill??? And how is this goin to affect us kids in the future??? What about the kids that want to become doctors????That's something to think about....!

    March 23, 2010 at 12:01 pm |

    March 23, 2010 at 12:03 pm |

I think that it is a milestone because it gives everybody healthcare and even the lowest class in the country. Our taxes wont be as high and we will all get the right care for our health. Most of the kids that have voted probaly dont understand how the bill works.

    March 23, 2010 at 12:03 pm |
  146. Chandler

The Health Care dissicion is a milestone! [Everyone does deserve to be healthy and taken care of. Not just anyone but EVERYONE & the Health Care Statement Obama passed is he conclusion to it all.

    March 23, 2010 at 12:04 pm |
  147. Sam

This is a huge mistake. I say this because the bill is practically saying that the people who doesn't have health care can get health care. While the people that have health pay for the people that do not have health care.

I think that this Health Care Reform is a milestone... Strictly because everyone in this country needs a second chance and deserves to have a decent health care plan. AND to all you selfish republicans out there who dont give a care about anyone else maybe you should walk in other peoples shoes who are good people but just cant afford health care.

This is a huge mistake. People will be paying off debt forever. He said he would make changes and he did but their all bad. He should have never won the presidency race. Macain Would never tripled our debt in 1 year and a few monthes.

  155. Samantha

I don't think the bill should have passed. We had really good Health Care for the people who had it, why mess it up.

    March 23, 2010 at 12:46 pm |
  156. Molly

I think the health care bill is not a very good idea. The wealthy people of our country do not need to be taxed because our citizens in our country do not have health insurance. They have worked for their money and deserve not to be taxed more. You wanna know why some people don't have health insurace? BECAUSE THEY DON'T WANT IT!!! This is a very stupid mistake on our governments part and pretty much declares Obama and his administration idiots!!

    March 23, 2010 at 12:51 pm |
  157. ghost/rosel

I think that the Heath care is a mistake because the government should not be able to control your heath care. Like if my grandparents have a heath problem the doctor might say no because they are to old. So that is what I think about the bill.

    March 23, 2010 at 12:52 pm |
  158. Emily

Mistake! I don't want to be fined when I get older, just because I don't want health care. The government is basically forcing you to have health care. Ya they are kind of "taking away from the rich, and giving to the poor" by making taxes higher for those getting paid $200,000 a year, but those are the people that worked for their money. They tried hard, went to college, and many probably still pay off student loans. By taxing them more, that is punishing them for their accomplishments. I'm not saying people who make less than that aren't trying either, but we still shouldn't take that money away. Doctors will not get paid as much, they will be doing free work for others. There is no way that someone will want to become a doctor when there is and overload of work and little pay. If there are less doctors, it will be harder and harder to get in and it eventually will take 6 months to a year just to get in the doctors office for a broken arm, etc. There may be a few good things that come of this bill, but I believe it will make more problems than it has solutions.

    March 23, 2010 at 12:57 pm |
  159. Josephine

I don't really know if this is good or not for the people..... but the House, Senate, and President need to listen to the people and customize this bill for the people and think "Are most people in the US going to be able to afford this health care?"

    March 23, 2010 at 1:01 pm |
  160. Lovisa

Finally, being taken care of when needed is not a matter of how much money a person has.

    March 23, 2010 at 1:04 pm |
  161. Levi

i think this was a mistake because after Obama gained office hes been gaining control of every thing. To him this is just somthing else to control. thats just my opinion it will take a few years to actually see if it is a milestone or mistake.

    March 23, 2010 at 1:04 pm |
  162. Jake

I think that is a milestone. I think that it is a milestone because a lot of people die every year from not having health insurance and this bill i think will make not as many people die and it is cheaper and won't break people.

    March 23, 2010 at 1:05 pm |
  163. Charles

i think this is good because if someone got sick and went to the hospital they could wipe out their savings but with this more people will be able to get insurance and be able to keep money.

    March 23, 2010 at 1:08 pm |
  164. Tylerh

i under stand why people think that its a bad idea casue it would give the government to much power, but the way our society is going, i think that it is best for us right now. Maybe in the future when our country is stable and people arn't still loosing jobs at a good pace, we can change it but for now i think its good for all of us.At least for now.

    March 23, 2010 at 1:11 pm |
  165. taylor

I support this completely, if someone can't afford health care, they need help & this is it. You have to put yourself in their shoes, and realize how you'd feel if you got hurt & had to sell your home, car, ect.

    March 23, 2010 at 1:12 pm |
  166. Shelbe

i dont think this bill (soon to be law) will be good for the american people. But in my case my regular insurance doesnt cover my genetic disorder medicine and this law will..

    March 23, 2010 at 1:15 pm |
  168. Dennis

It is a definite step up from were we currently stand in terms of healthcare. For those who actually thought it was a bad idea because of economic issues, look at Canada. There health care IS ABSOLUTELY FREE and they're doing just fine.

    March 23, 2010 at 1:15 pm |
  169. Tiana

It is a milestone. When has America every had basically every person covered with health insurance. It would help a lot of people. Just stop hatin on Obama because he is black.

    March 23, 2010 at 1:15 pm |
  170. Chandeiler

This bill serves one and only purpose and that is to charge tax payers more. On the news I saw that Nancy Pelosi said, "Let's just pass the bill and then we will see whats in it." This is gunna cost tax payers so much. The U.S.A. has enough health care plans! We don't need one funded by the goverment. Health care is availble to anyone and everyone! This bill serves no purpose except to set america into a even deeper hole.

    March 23, 2010 at 1:16 pm |
  171. Emma

wow. this was a large mistake. this law should have never been passed. so many people are against it. more are against it then they are for it. they should reconsider this since so many people think differently. our opinions matter to this change in our country. when Obama said this was a change, it really is...for the worse.

    March 23, 2010 at 1:17 pm |
  172. Eddington

Its a definite step up. For those of you who dont like it, look at it this way. Before when people were sick and in deadly states, doctors who had the medicine would not give it to them. Why? Because they couldn't pay. So would you let someone die because they couldn't pay for a surgery?

    March 23, 2010 at 1:17 pm |
  173. Jeff

Its a mistake because we are spending so much money we don't have. There would be a time and place for Healcare reform, certainly not in the middle of an economic crisis.

    March 23, 2010 at 1:18 pm |
  174. Lauren

I really don't this thing should have passed. It is going to make our government into like a command. Which won't be good. I mean the next thing we need is the government controling the schools or even colleges. This health care bill is not going to be good. It is going to put other insurances in bankrupt.

    March 23, 2010 at 1:18 pm |
  175. Jordan

I believe this will be a milestone. I don' t know that much about it, but from what i hear it seems pretty cool and important.

    March 23, 2010 at 1:18 pm |
  176. Abraham

I think that passing down this bill is the greatest thing that has happened to this country in a ong time. Thanks to this bill, people who could not afford health care or could not buy health care will now be able to buy health care. Say you wanted to be on the football team, but you didn't have health care. This prevents you from being in the football team, but now things will change

    March 23, 2010 at 1:19 pm |
  177. Tiana

We are now paying for the 32,000,000 illeagal immagrants from mexico. We pay our taxes for them? Now the government is giving them help? that will incourage more to come over. border patrol needs to step it up.

    March 23, 2010 at 1:20 pm |
  178. Katie

If the healthcare bill works for America and helps our people, that would be amazing. But even if it doesn't turn out the way we'd hoped, it is is a milestone because we are making progress towards a better society and we are actually trying to help others.

    March 23, 2010 at 1:21 pm |
  179. Lateeda

This bill, in my opinion, is a MISTAKE. The people of America DON'T want the government to take over anything, let alone health care. Yes, other countries such as Canada, Great Britian, and France already have a similar health care plan, but it's not a good one. Has anyone realized that people in these countries have to wait days, weeks, months, even years to get their treatment? All because, if the government has to pay for all of the hospitals and doctor's offices, the government WON'T make enough for everyone in the country. I don't think this bill was made in mind of what the American People WANT, and, honestly, it was made more for political reasons than for the American People!

    March 23, 2010 at 1:21 pm |

I think that it was a very rash decision to make. For one reason, the US is already in debt and it's going to make us deeper in debt.

    March 23, 2010 at 1:25 pm |
  181. alex

it will not help because taxes will go up if you are working.

In my opinion, this argument is understandable. Yet, it is so strange at the same time. A majority of the people who watch Student News are in high school or junior high school. Since this is true, this bill will be in our lives whether you like it or not.

    March 23, 2010 at 1:55 pm |

I say it is a good thing. This could help the American people get better health care and help there economic problems dealing with medical things.

I don't really support the bill but I do not know how it will go. We will have to wait and see how this bill effects america.

my parents are against the health care bill and i understand why, because the government wants to pay for health care they have to increase taxes so poeple who can't afford private healthcare can have it which puts private health care buissnesses out of buissness which puts people out of a job which raises unemployment!!!

    March 23, 2010 at 2:14 pm |
  188. Nick

I think that this law has the possibility to do some good, but I don't like the fact that it basically says that you have to buy health insurance or get a fine.

it might seem as a mistake to many people but me personally i think it was a milestone. because now the president will be able to focus on other national concerns.

some people think that other countries are way ahead of us but if some one in another country needs surgery they come to the u.s. because their governments postpone their surgeries because they think that they are no n life threatening.

Whether or not you agree with the passage of the bill, it is definitely a milestone in the history of our country.

Personally, I think the new health care bill is a milestone. For those finacially struggling, it will bring a much needed relief.

I think that this bill is a bad idea. What this bill is saying is that the people that work hard to earn what they have to day should pay money for poeple that the same oppurtunities we did and did nothing about. Now does that sound right to you?

    March 23, 2010 at 2:18 pm |
  195. Monica

I think that the bill could either a good thing or a bad thing depending on the person; however if so many people are against the bill then the Senate, House of Representitives, and President should reconsider the bill and listen to the people.

    March 23, 2010 at 2:18 pm |

I think it is a good thing the bill was passed. It allows the families with less money to have the privelages of others.

I dont know much about politics, but I think its not fair for people to give away their money to other people just because they cant afford healthcare. We worked for our money and we deserve to keep it.

I have read a lot of the posts on here, and most of the negative comments simply state that this bill is "terrible" and is a "big mistake", but cannot seem to find a reason why. Those against the bill who state that it will cost a ton of money have not been listening to news reports; this bill is going to cut the cost of the federal budget by hundreds of billions of dollars over the next 10 years! Now, every person has the right to live a healthy, insured life. It is not REQUIRED that a person has insurance from the government; there are still hundreds of third-party insurance providers that are now being held to stricter guidelines.
I wonder if the people posting on here have been researching the issue for themselves, or just listening to what their parents have to say?

I think That the health care is very helpfull to the U.S.A citcins. But it should be optinal to the people if they want diffrent health-care they should be able to do so.

  201. Carrie

I think this bill is a mistake because, maybe its just me but healthcare doesnot seem like it is that important. I think we should be more conserened with what this will do to our national debt. If we increase that debt what are the government officials leaving us when it is our turn to make a difference. If they do not give us an example to lead what good is that going to do us because in my opinion were heading for socialism which in other words people mean Communism!!!!!!!!!

    March 23, 2010 at 2:35 pm |
  202. Olivia

I believe that this bill will be a good thing for us. It gives a chance to people who, otherwise, couldn't get/afford healthcare, to be able to get the medical help they need and deserve. It also saves tax payers some money so we should all be thankful for that...

    March 23, 2010 at 2:38 pm |
  203. Hannah

The Healthcare bill is a huge mistake! We don't have any money to spend and we shouldn't borrow money because our debt is way too high! Also, requiring people to have heathcare insurance isn't smart. Some people would lose money if they have to have healthcare insurance because they don't go the the doctor that much. I think Congress needs to fix the bill and President Obama should not pass it. Thanks.

    March 23, 2010 at 2:42 pm |
  204. kvaal

I think it's a good thing, because then people can't go into the hospital and say that they can't afford insurance, and then get something paid for them. Then, hospitals can say that you have an option for health insurance.

    March 23, 2010 at 2:47 pm |

It is both. It is a milestone in the downfall of the U.S.A. and it is one of the biggest mistakes ever made. Congressmen are supposed to vote the way their people did. You can bet we passed a stone, but it is a tombstone with another mistake sketched into; it is the tombstone of the USA. And I don't care what any of you have to say about my comment. Mark my words, when we vote, it will be under a socialist government.

    March 23, 2010 at 3:11 pm |

Chris, yeah hi. CANDA IS SOCIALIST THEY COME HERE FOR HEALTH CARE BECAUSE THEY WON'T GET IT IN CANADA. NOW WE PASSED SOMETHING JUST LIKE IT. March 23, 2010 at 3:14 pm |
  216. Derrek

I think that the bill is somewhat a mistake, because most of the package is simply negative towards the people on health care. Some of it is positive though, like the people that aren’t able to have healthcare, are able to get it. It also keeps kids under 26 on their parents healthcare. It will cost many people money, but they think it will be good in the long run.

    March 23, 2010 at 3:24 pm |

I think that the health reform bill is just a big mistake. If the U.S citizens didn't get into acciedents and inncidents, we wouldn't need to have a plan and save money!

    March 23, 2010 at 3:52 pm |
  222. Rachel

I really don't like this bill. For two reasons: People should choose if they want health care or not, and many people in the United States can't afford health care, therefore the government will be paying for their health care. This means the we are going to be in even more debt. The younger generation is going to be paying this off. Not the older generation! The government needs tothink of everybody, adults AND kids!

    March 23, 2010 at 3:53 pm |
  223. henry

I think that this bll is not fair to Americans because we should have optional health care. Also i think that the president should maybe try to listen to our thoughts.

  224. Ian

It's milestone. Their are many jobless people in this world. Maybey they don't hanve enough money to pay the medical bills. With the health care reform, the jobless people don't have to worry about the medical bills. So I agree with health care reform

    March 23, 2010 at 4:05 pm |
  225. Josie

I personaly do not like the bill. I think that if 1 person disagrees that it should be relooked at to see if any mistakes could be corrected.

    March 23, 2010 at 4:09 pm |
  226. Travis

Right now people are viewing insurance incorrectly, which is partially the source of our messed up system. Now, whenever people need anything they can go to the doctor and have insurance pay for it. Insurance should be for emergencies and disastors only, and the fact that we use it for every day use is a major problem.
The other thing that drives up prices is malpractice suits. When hospitals and doctors are being sued for any small mistake, they have to make up for that loss of revenue with higher prices for all. Health care is not a right, and health insurance is DEFINITLY not an unalienable right. People are entitled to the pursuit of happiness not happiness itself-that is where the federal government has misunderstood the constitution and the intentions of the founding fathers.

  229. Josh

It's a milestone, but it may not be a good one. I think it is too early to tell. I could see this bill going uphill, or downhill. We will just have to wait and see.

This is a very important day in history. After one hundred years of extremely respected presidents like Roosevelt one unlikely source of success to pass this bill it is passed. It will give people who want and need healthcare a chance to get it at a fair and equal rate as others. This is a milestone. Thank You President Obama!

    March 23, 2010 at 4:29 pm |

I think that the health care bill is one of the worst things that has ever been passed. Our current healthcare system is one of the best thats out there. This bill is going to crush that. If you take a step back in history, back to when this country was founded, it was done so on the basis of "We The People." This is clearly not something that every american person wants. It also states that the country should be ran by the people, not the government. This bill is a way for the government to take over the country and puts the people in last place.

    March 23, 2010 at 5:00 pm |
  238. robert

this is taking away the right that goes to many states and many people. by having everyone have health care you don't get to choose wheither or not you want health care. and when they sue i hope the federal government looses because this bill is completely unconsitutional and they need to think about what willhappen and how it will affect the people of the u.s.a.

This is, by far, a big mistake! This is NOT what the American's want. We cannot give out Health Care like this! It is Unconstitutional and the Obama Administration cannot win against the ten states! The lines that you may see at your family practice hospital will go up by hourS! Yes not one or two but three or more. In some countries that have National Health Care, it's record for the shortest time waiting is FOUR hours! I waited ten MINUTES yesterday to see my doctor! This is truly an Obamanation!

    March 23, 2010 at 5:24 pm |
  243. jessy

I believe that this new health bill might effect our nation, health, and us. I just hope this may support our economy – the first thing Obama should put on his "to do" list.

    March 23, 2010 at 5:45 pm |

I think that the republicans should stop complaining about the bill. If they think it's not good, then they should stop criticizing the democrats and start making changes to their health care. But if they are not going to bother doing that, then they should stop complaining. Especially now, the bill is passed, so now I think they should work together with the democrats to help our country get back on track. Criticizing each other won't do anything but separate this country even more..

    March 23, 2010 at 5:45 pm |
  246. Lizzy

I think that if someone doesn't want to pay for insurance, then they shouldn't be forced to. Especially since it's going to cost so much. This is America! This country is supposed to be free!

    March 23, 2010 at 5:49 pm |
  247. Greg

This is such a mistake. the fact that the vote was so close only proves that this is not what the American people want. Americans are talking and acting, it's just too bad that our own president is not listening to the people who voted for him....

    March 23, 2010 at 5:56 pm |
  248. Charles

Some reform is needed for our healthcare system. The only problem is America is already in debt and is sinking further. This bill/law is going to send us further into debt, which will have to be paid for decades to come.

    March 23, 2010 at 6:03 pm |
  249. Cody

I don't agree with the health care bill because it's taking money out some peoples own pocket. If the want the health care bill so much why don't they pay for it the have the money, but they would just rather make the people pay so they can have their fancy cars and house's while some people are on the streets. Why don't they make a bill where they help people get a home and a job where they can pay bills!

    March 23, 2010 at 6:05 pm |

I can't wait to see what will happen after the president signs the bill. Me and my family are going to sue the governmen just like most people who said no to the bill. And we will not stop until justice is served.

    Mistake.
Now, I really don't care what the American people think, but here's my view on things. Those who have underlying health conditions cost more. It's the truth, no matter how hard-hearted it sounds. They have more conditions that means more treatment, and therefore more money for the treatment. If one regular person got some heart condition, they may end up paying more for it then an overweight person. It would take more stuff to clear the disease, or whatnot.

    March 23, 2010 at 6:30 pm |
  258. Sanket

This a mistake because people should have the right to make their own desicion on if they want to have health care or not. I personlly think that if this is suppose to be a law it shouldn't be a Federal Law but instead it should be a state law mainly because at least 10 states are filing a lawsuit and this is a sign that proves that it should not be a law and if it is suppose to be, it should be a state law.

    March 23, 2010 at 6:38 pm |

I think the health care reform is a milestone. I don't understand why Americans don't like the idea. Canadians have an excellent health care, and we have good use of it. Once the health care law is understood and used, people will grow to feel that it's really good.

I think the health care bill was a bad mistake by representitives in congress because they are passing a bill which AMERICA DOES NOT WHAT! so they made a mistake by going through the process TOO FAST.

    March 23, 2010 at 6:44 pm |
  261. Charlie

This is a massive mistake. Although this is "supposed" to help our economy save money, its not possible, because its going to cost a lot of money to implement the health care plan. This will cause our economy's debt to increase and it will be even harder to recover out of debt. Furthermore, the government run care facilities will soon attract people away from private health insurance companies, this can put private companies out of business and cause many people to lose their jobs. Other countries also have "universal health care". These countries are not doing so well. Also, we have to look at the U.S run postal service. It loses millions of dollars a year and the same might happen to the health care system. We also have to consider, that although our president denies it, the upper class citizens will eventually have to pay extra taxes to fund the health system. This is unfair and it will cause many to be discontent. Universal Health Care is unjust and should not be implemented.

    March 23, 2010 at 6:49 pm |

This Health Care Bill is a HUGE mistake. The people that don't work and don't want to earn money are getting health care from the government..which is bad because the people that are working and want to earn money are paying for their health care by taxes...Ridiculous!

    March 23, 2010 at 6:52 pm |

I think people shouldn't have to be forced to pay insurance. It's their choice. The government complains way to much! They need to cut us some slack! Give people a break for once

I am following up from my last comment also, but I think it is also a good thing because now people who can't usually afford to get vaccinated, see doctors, and take good medicine will be able to now.

It is our congressmen and women's job to represent the general population and by passing this reform bill they have let down millions of Americans. They should have slowed down and taken a deeper look into what is really being presented in this reform. When the general public doesn't know what is in the bill, how can they be properly represented in Washington D.C.

    March 23, 2010 at 6:59 pm |

Mistake. No question about it. We are already in a recession I don't think that the taxes need to be raised more. Sure it will bail us out, but it won't make anybody like the government any more. If the republicans and democrats will stop arguing and work together maybe the government will be able to edit the bill to fit the needs of all Americans.

The health care bill is a mistake. People that have health care don't care because nothing will happen to them, but they should think of the others out there and not be so selfish. It is someones choice if they don't want health care.

    March 23, 2010 at 7:25 pm |
  272. Zach

Absolutely a Milestone, sure there might be a couple of mistakes, but what bill or law doesn't? Lets see what does and doesn't work for the country and take it from there

  273. Miguel

I am not a politician and all, but this is probably the worst thing that will happen in the United States of America for years or even decades. I think the Republicans have a right to argue with this bill. This bill will raise the percent of jobless people.

    March 23, 2010 at 7:30 pm |
  274. Abbi

This health care bill may be for poorer people, but blue collar working people are going to have to pay a whole lot for money for those people. So by far this a HUGE mistake!!

    March 23, 2010 at 7:44 pm |
  275. Zack

I think it is good because you can keep your current health care plan if it works for you, small businesses will be able to have cheaper coverage, but most people cannot afford an increase in taxes in this rough economy.

    March 23, 2010 at 7:48 pm |
  276. Chloe

I think this health care bill was a huge mistake. IIt is raising taxes, and the United States of America is slowly becoming a communist government, taking away tiny indivual freedoms until we will the citizens will be left with nothing. I also think resteraunts have a right not to put the amount of calories of their meals on menus. Just like I mentioned there goes the freedom of speech. Obama was not the correct person to elect as president.

    March 23, 2010 at 7:49 pm |
  277. Christie

I know it was the right thing for President Obama and the Senate to pass the Healthcare Reform Bill. It will allow me to stay on my parents health plan until AFTER I finish college and can pay for my own.

    March 23, 2010 at 7:55 pm |
  278. Reece

As much as i see a need for a change to healthcare, this law is to left field. We are a democratic country, and our voices spoke against this bill yet we were betrayed by our congressmen/women. I think that this was a very bad mistake, and i hope that our elected officials realize that the voices of the people are more important to the things they might recieve in the political world.

    March 23, 2010 at 8:14 pm |
  279. Swill

The passing of this bill is a huge mistake. Its stripping our Constitutional rights before our eyes. What we have to do is create regulations in helthcare, without the goverment controling everything and robbing us blind with taxes. Obama supporting it is a move that he will end up regreting.

    March 23, 2010 at 8:17 pm |
  280. dury

It's milestone. If you sick, but lack of money, you couldn't treated well. It's not humanism. This bill should be passed before.

    March 23, 2010 at 8:18 pm |
  281. Adam

What it is is socialized medicine and that is why people are fighting it. Most of the current goverment grew up during the Cold War and were taught to fear communism which is what socialized medicine really is. And that is why there is so much uproar over this.

    March 23, 2010 at 8:19 pm |
  282. Morgan

I think that this new healthcare bill will tear our nation apart. This is going to be one of the biggest mistakes the senate will make. And unfortunatley we will be the ones paying for their mistake. And have you seen all the protests against this? The American people dont want this and we will all see this soon.

    March 23, 2010 at 8:20 pm |
  283. Morgan

I also agree with that 4th grade class about President Oboma, nobel, yes, fair no!!!

    March 23, 2010 at 8:23 pm |
  284. Lillie

It was a HUGE mistake. Everything the government tries to control seems to fail. They keep thinking they can do it better, but they can't. The only thing this bill will do is make the economy worse.

    March 23, 2010 at 8:29 pm |
  285. Matthew

This health care bill is a huge mistake. Once this bill is passed, we are going to have the same health care as Canada! Also, were do you think the leader of Canada goes to when it comes to medical issues? US!

    March 23, 2010 at 9:00 pm |
  286. Bonnie

This is definitly a milestone because the old healthcare system was a rising cost that this country cannot possibly offord . Its a good thing that Obama did not just leave it to the next generation to solve but instead made it one less debt we have to pay.

    March 23, 2010 at 9:02 pm |
  287. Nick

90% Milestone and 10% mistake! Because this still needs more health! AND LESS MONEY! Great know we more than 1/2 Americans have health!

    March 23, 2010 at 9:03 pm |
  288. Ian

I am happy the Healthcare Bill is passed. It is a milestone in our great countrys history. I think it is the greatest bill passed since the 1964 Civil Rights Bill was passed. I want you all to know it is a right to have healthcare. We all live in the U.S.A not one of those Dictatorship countrys. Go Barack Obama keep up the great work!

    March 23, 2010 at 9:08 pm |
  289. Lauren

I do partake actively in the news, and I absolutely cannot understand why any people in congress and the senate cannot grasp the fact that was youngsters (us) are now going to be paying for this!!! For the rest of our life, we are going to be paying for someone else's health care!!! This angers me so very, very much! And maybe, Obama, shame on me for not wanting to pay money I don't even have, for SOMEONE ELSE'S health care. So all I have left to say is this: Obama, senate, congress, even the common person, I, am ashamed of you for creating such a monster!! Pay attention to history, look at Greece, look at that economic DISASTER, do we really want to turn into that?!?! This is a mistake tha cannot be undone.

    March 23, 2010 at 9:10 pm |
  290. Hailey

I believe that this bill will make everyone pay. People who don't want ot have insurance shouldn't have to get it. It also just taxing the upper class even more. This is a HUGE mistake!!!

    March 23, 2010 at 9:12 pm |
  291. Hailey

This was a big mistake. There are other americans who have not as much money in their pay check already because of taxes. This bill is now just going to raise those taxes. Yes it may be only a little bit at a time for us to pay. Bit little by little that money is going to make a diffrence in our total amount of money. That is not a good thing for our economy at the state it is in.

    March 23, 2010 at 9:15 pm |
  292. Lauren

Government is taking over everything. Are we so sure we want it in health care? This makes me really nervous.

    March 23, 2010 at 9:22 pm |
  293. John

Polls show that We The People did not want healthcare reform.

The government shouldn't be able to make people get insured if they don't want to. That goes againt the principals this country was founded on!

    March 23, 2010 at 9:26 pm |
  294. Becky

I think that the whole idea of healthcare reform is a generally good idea but we are rushing to fix a problem that is fixing itself. It is said that the major rising of the uninsured American people is because of the employment crisis. Due to the rising costs, 38% of small businesses pay for health insurance in 2009 compared to the 61% in 1993. Healthcare is becoming expensive. Instead of making it mandatory for health insurance to be for everyone, make it mandatory that these insurance companies make a reasonable price for the american people to afford and maintain their personal liberties.

    March 23, 2010 at 9:27 pm |
  295. Lauren

I think it is absoutly a mistake, How is this fair to the people who work so hard for what they have and have paid all their life for insurance, and now its just going to be handed to a bunch of ungreatful, non working people. There is going to be so many problems with this, as there is with medicare and social security. Just give it time and we will start to see the flaws in it.

    March 23, 2010 at 9:28 pm |
  296. Tanner

I think that the health care bill was a milestone and not a mistake because it shows that Obama wants change and is trying to get the country rolling.

    March 23, 2010 at 9:33 pm |
  297. Berna

I think it was a bad idea that it passed because us younger Americans will have to pay for it when we are older, with higher taxes, etc. Those states that are filing lawsuits are smart, because when I'm older i don't want to be paying off this!!

    March 23, 2010 at 9:33 pm |
  298. alfredo

i think mileastone because really we do need health care even what if someone got really sick or fever and went to the doctor the bill will be to much to pay this was a good idea

    March 23, 2010 at 9:33 pm |
  299. Eddie

i like to know that i am in control of my health care and not the gov is in controle

    March 23, 2010 at 9:39 pm |
  300. Kathleen

This is a mistake. I think people should be able to choose if they want health care or not. It shouldn't be up to the goverment if you want it or not, it should be up to you. The Bill of Rights said so for crying out loud! Also the people that DO have health insurance shouldn't be punished from this and this is exactly what will be happening. More money will be taken out of people's pockets that most of the time can't afford it and the money that doesn't come from the Americans that can pay for insurance will be spent with money that the goverment doesn't even have. This bill will only put the country more in debt and take away jobs from people that are on the edge just barely holding on.

    March 23, 2010 at 9:41 pm |
  301. Katie

I think that the health care bill was a huge mistake from the beginning. My dad always told me that government was bad but this time i am afraid hey have taken it too far.

    March 23, 2010 at 9:41 pm |
  302. Riley

I think that this might help, but a better way to approach this problem, is to take after Germany and make insurance companies a non-profit organization.

    March 23, 2010 at 9:42 pm |
  303. Zach

Big Mistake!!! I think this is too expensive, it will bankrupt the country, increase taxes on taxpayers, and decrease the quality of healthcare.

    March 23, 2010 at 9:43 pm |
  304. Riley

I think that this is a milestone, people keep saying that it was a big mistake, but i disagree because before Obama, other great presidents have tried this as well.

    March 23, 2010 at 9:45 pm |
  305. George

I think that the new health care bill is a huge mistake because I would not like to be paying for someone else's health care entirely plus mine. That is a waste of money. Also all of the doctors will not make as much money because everyone will be on medicare, and then all the doctors will quit. Next we will either have no doctors or young doctors that aren't as good. Plus for the people we will not get to pick our doctors or our insurance. With a wrap I watched Nancy Pelosi tell America that this is what the people want, and then it showed the all of the people on Capital Hill yelling "kill the bill." So I don't want to spend my whole future in debt, and that is my idea on the new bill. Lastly if this bill is so great then why is the Congress not on it too.

    -George

    March 23, 2010 at 9:45 pm |
  306. Joe

I've read many of the opinions of my peers on this blog and I feel it is wrong that they didn't take the time to even read the bill from the [White House] website. The bill is supposed to bring more people into the market making it cheaper for the insurance companies to charge the American People. And NOT ONLY That BUT it says that the companies can't raise rates without approval from the goverment and economists. Thus they can't advertise if they're approved. The idea got its alternative, but I rather not see any more wait from the Senators and more push on things we really need done.

    March 23, 2010 at 9:50 pm |
  307. Tanner

My class has reached the concensus that Obama's health care rally has been a major mistake and is completly and positily unconstitutional. WE think this because there is corruption in the Senate, and it is major. They are doing what they want, not what the people want. Its WE THE PEEOPLE isn't it?

    March 23, 2010 at 9:52 pm |
  308. Kaitlin

I do truly think this was a mistake/milestone..I watch Student News almost everyday ,and not once did I hear that they passed the bill til I watched this...But I can't do anything about it..It only matters if it helps Americans get health insurance and to help pay for health insurance especially in todays economy ,and if not then it was a total mistake that should have been avoided.

    March 23, 2010 at 9:55 pm |
  309. Marty

This is a mistake. This is just another example of the government taking more control then they are supposed to.

    March 23, 2010 at 9:58 pm |
  310. Alec

I dont think its right because you could break your arm and still be in the hospital for 5 days

    March 23, 2010 at 9:59 pm |
  311. Mackenzie

What happened to the 10th Amendment? Or the 9th? Is the government going to tell us what is required for school or jobs now, too? Health care is the same kind of right in my opinion. If we are a democratic nation, why aren't we for what the people want? I think this was a big mistake.

    March 23, 2010 at 10:02 pm |
  312. Dan

I think it was a bad idea because its going to coats people more money

    SOOO WRONG

    March 23, 2010 at 10:09 pm |
  314. Daniel

Fourteen states are taking steps to block the new health care law, and there will probably be more to come. If health care reform is everything the Obama administration says it will be, why would states want to block it?

    March 23, 2010 at 10:21 pm |
  315. Shawn

I think that it is a milestone. look at other country's like Canada, the UK, and many others. They all have health care that is even more government controlled then this and they are all better off then us. In my eyes the bill needs to do more, but it is still a very big step in the right way.

    March 23, 2010 at 10:24 pm |
  316. Shawn

I think this is a milestone. After hearing what has been said about this problem in DC last week, I have heard disadvantages and advantages. Although we may pay for it later, the economy will always have conundrums, it is simply the nature. In the long run, I believe this will be a step toward a better nation.

    March 23, 2010 at 10:29 pm |
  317. Alex

This is a huge mistake, we already have enough people who are too lazy to get a job to work and support themselves, instead they rely on government to give them food stamps and what not, I see this as the beginning of us turning into a Socialist nation. People who work shouldnt have to pay taxes to support the people who cant afford health care, this could possibly effectively send the economy down the drain.

    March 23, 2010 at 10:42 pm |
  318. Bryce

I believe its a mistake, Obahma and the democrats should`ve listened to Americans., instead Obahma made the bill pass to have something to be his legacy. All that money you are wasting on that could go to the ailing educational system. Thanks for more taxes.

    March 23, 2010 at 10:42 pm |
  319. Natalie

This bill is not fair at all! Over 605 of Americans didn't want it and the Democrats still shoved it down our throats. Instead of fighting for power, the government needs to listen to us. With this bill, America will be even more in debt and the government will have that much more power. I say start from scratch and work together, both parties combining their ideas so we all agree.

    March 23, 2010 at 10:47 pm |
  320. Alec

In general, the American people opposed this piece of legislation mainly because I feel this is not how they imagined health care reform to be. There are other alternatives for reform, but this is not the solution for the people.

    March 23, 2010 at 10:50 pm |
  321. Stephon

If it's anything it's a milestone. The health care bill was carried on for to long and now that we've got it started Obama can start on other problems like the huge debt the government it in at the moment and that's still affecting the whole U.S.

    March 23, 2010 at 11:16 pm |
  322. Adam

Do Students realize that the entire Republican lawmakers in Congress voted NO against the sweeping Educational reforms which passed during the passing of America's Health Care bill?

Do Students realize the Republican lawmakers were attempting to totally snub College students by issuing fewer Pell Grants and those issued at a far lower value ($2,500) than before?

Thanks entirely and totally to the Democratic Congress persons, not only did the number of Pell Grants grow much larger, those issued will be only slightly below $6,000.

Do Students realize the Republican party is certainly no friend of theirs? I hope Students of voting ages reward the Democrat party for going the extra mile to help YOU.

l think this is a mileastone cause people might not have enough money to pay so i think it made American history.

I think Mileastone! President Obama you did the RIGHT THING!!

    March 23, 2010 at 11:45 pm |
  325. Kylie

I believe this was a mistake!!! For others it sounds like a great idea but really it's just you paying for someone else's doctors appointments! It is also not fair to the people who have been paying their fair share for health care and now people just get it for free! Now it'll be easier for illigals to come in and do what they what!...

    March 23, 2010 at 11:47 pm |

I don't know how much it allows one to type here but I am about to go on a tangent.

H.R. 3962, or better known as the Health Care Reform Act is one of the most successfully progressive law in US History, but still the Federal Governments biggest blunders. I am neither Democrat nor Republican, I happen to agree with the Constitution Party platform; however i do consider myself a conservative, and support the Republican Party in, what i would call, a two part system. The health care bill insures estimates as high as another 32 million Americans, reduces costs for seniors, prevents discrimination for those with pre-existing illnesses. But at what cost, in 10 years the bill is estimated to cost $900 Billion, and is said to reduce our deficit by $1.3 Trillion. But many call these "Phantom Numbers" as there is no way to prove that this will be the case and many say it will raise the cost of health care in the long run. This places a tax burden on large companies, people who make over 200k will see a 30% increase in their Medicare taxes. Though it doesn't say where the other money will end up coming from, in order to pay for the Medicare expansion to cover the poor, prescription drugs for seniors among many other things the only way it seems feasible will be too raise taxes down the road. At this time the bill costs too much, and our economy is too unstable; if the Governments begins to print more money inflation will sky rocket and we will be in an even bigger economic hole.

Though the above irritates me it is not my biggest problem with the health Care Reform Bill. It is that it requires all American's to purchase health insurance. Which is in violation of the constitution. The Federal Government has no powers to tell me what i have to buy, and what I have to pay for. It is a Life Tax, the government is making me pay for something that i may or may not need or even afford. And although there is subsidy for those making under $88,000 unless they are going to pay for the whole thing, my mom who is unemployed, will not be able to afford health insurance. Also the bill requires states to contribute more funding to education and infrastructure etc. when many states at this time are not able to afford the Billions of Dollars it will add in cost to budget. Also this is directly in violation of the 10th Amendment, which states, "The powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the States, are reserved to the States respectively, or to the people." The Federal Govt. has no constitutional right to tell the states what to do, or what the people to pay for.

This bill which was done behind closed doors, with special deals, and a complete disregard to the voice of the majority (Rasmussen Daily Reports that only 41% of voters approved of the Bill). Bigger Govt. High Taxes, loss of Freedom are all in this Bill. Mr. President and People of Congress Don't Tread on Me!!!

NO i belive that health care shouldnt be ran by the goverment because it will destroy jobs and run this county all the way down!!!! 🙂

I think it is a big point of our country or big mistake of US history.
But one thing that im not sure about is when u r so poor that u can't pay the health care what does goverments do??
I heard that health care is menditory, but if u can't affort it wat consequences u get??

We can't turn the nation into equilateral triangle, where the rich, the average, and the poor are all the same. Why? Person A gets 100% on a test. Person B gets 70%, and person C gets 50%. The teacher decides that everybody's grades will be added to calculate the average grade, which will "generously" be rewarded to each student. The average is a C. The average is a C!! Person A worked SO HARD on that test! He deserves his A! Now of course person C is pretty happy, he gets to mooch off of other people–he gets an ok grade for absolutely no effort. Free! Free! Free! Hey, America, guess what?? Its all FREE because the only people paying are the type A people! Person B did not really care because his grade was the same, pretty much. Can you guess what happens next? Person A doesn't see any point in trying anymore if he will not receive HIS grade. So he slacks off. Person B is all like "whatever". Person C does even worse, somehow, because he thinks he'll just get a C again. Guess what the average is?? It's an F. F is for fail. But apparently it's ALSO for "fun"! And don't forget that word "fresh" that all these loons in D.C. see the health care bill as.

I think the bill wasn't good idea. Because the bill requires lots of money, but the government is in financial crisis, and doesn't have money. So, how will they fill the debt? Probably, raising the taxes to cover finances. But, in this depression, the people's life will get worse. I think instead of installing a bill first, the president should think making the economy better.

look,. this is a dumb bill. the president has been fighting for this bill for two years! why has he made it? to make a lot of Americans feel like they are trapped in a bullet proof glass box and can't do anything about it.

The health care bill isn't helping anyone. How will it help to force people to buy health care. When he wrote this bill he must not have been thinking of American citizens. No one wants this health care bill and democrats are going to feel that when the elections come and none of them get put back in congress. President Obama is looking to be another President Jackson

    March 24, 2010 at 8:21 am |
  335. Nina

This health care reform is a complete mistake. 70% of US citizens did not want the reform, yet the democrats chose to vote for it anyway. This will put us in even higher debt. Where are they going to get all this extra money for health care?

The Health Care is bad because many people might not have the money to get health care. President Obama should've not made that a law.

i think that it is a milestone because because we really do need healthcare......what if somebody got really sick? and then they went to the doctor and the bill was to high?

  342. Jordan

This health care is a mistake!! if you people don't see that this is putting doctors out of buissiness and making people wait in line for serious health problems, then you people need to check again. With this system we are losing our insurence and soon we will go into a depression when you pay 2000 dollars for a trip to the doctors! OPEN YOUR EYES PEOPLE!!!!!!!!

i think that it was a mileastone because we do and need health care alot of people get really sick in my school and in other schools and other world and if someone gets really sick and the docter bill might be too much for that person to pay for and if we have health care it will be very helpful and if your sick it wont be like you cant get cured becasue you cant pay for it so if you have health care or if me have health care then it would be alot better so i think that it is right and he was right about health care and i think it is a mileastone!!

    March 24, 2010 at 9:10 am |

I think the Health Care was a major mistake because it will make the government give free healthcare and make us further in debt. Also it will take away money for heling Grandparents which wrries me becasemy grandpa is in the hospital and needs life threatning surgery

I think this is a big mistake on president Obama's part. I don't even think that congress read it Because I now I would not read it it is two thousand pages. For my parents it is just more money out of their bank. It is cheaper if you just pay the money in front at the doctors.

I hate the healthbill. A majority of americans dont like it yet congress still passed it. It is a buden on americans

The health care bill was a mistake and not a milestone, I believe that heath care is a privilege and not a right and is just punishing the citizens who work hard for the money that they make. Taxes will be raised for the weathly and middle class. This is certainly unfair because many of them have been working hard their whole lives, so why should they be the ones who are getting punished?

The government can't seem to manage any one thing well, so why would we want them to control our health? That, to me, looks like a disaster waiting to happen.

  351. Kasey

I think that the health care bill was a mistake. I think that in the long run it will cost the United States a lof of money. People who make more money will have to pay more in taxes because of this bill, and those who don't work or have low income will get health care because of it, and not have to contribute a fair share to payment of the program.

I think mistake because not all people can afford it. I think it's being communist in a way because it's taking a choice away from the people.

I think it's a big mistake because not everyone can afford it and it's taking too much of opportunity away like the government is stealing your money from you

I think it is a huge mistake. how would obama know what its like to pay for health care. he gets all of his free from the white house. he wants change. he will get it,but it wont be for the better it will be for the worst.

    March 24, 2010 at 11:33 am |

Milestone, because people need more health care.

    March 24, 2010 at 11:34 am |

Milestone, because people who can't afford health insurance will be able to get help from the government.

    March 24, 2010 at 11:35 am |
  362. Xavier

I understand how people think that Obama's trying to turn the U.S. into a socialist government and all but I believe that it will help people avoid debt. My family probably would be in big trouble if they didn't have insurance, my brother had a nearly million dollar surgery, and it was because of a life threatening heart defect. If my parents didn't have insurence, they'd still be trying to dig themselves out of that massive hole. Thats why the health care bill is so important.

BIG MISTAKE!!! because not every body can pay for it and if they dont pay for it they will eventually get it from the gov. And they will start helping and like now a days the government is in everything and it sucks.

The health care bill is a milestone, obama promised change and after a year we (america) finally got it.... but not they way most americans suspected it. I think that the health care bill is going to be great, in our school we have had several car accidents in the past few weeks. One of thouse accidents a student had to be med flighted, with all the hospital fees and the med flight charges it came out to be around 17,000 dollars so health care is a step in the right direction for the people of the united states.(The student is ok by the way)

  378. Amanda

While I am impressed that President Obama was able to accomplish this big goal, I feel that it is a mistake. America has become an enabler to those leaving here illegally or living off the tax payers money. This reform is just going to open the gateway to more tax increases, crowded hospitals, and an even harder time for those applying to get health insurance by their own means.

    March 24, 2010 at 1:04 pm |
  379. avery

I think that it is a mistake because it is wrong to force people to buy health care. It will increases taxes to pay for everyone's health care.

Biggest mistake that a president could do. People say George Bush did bad well we still got 3 more years with him and he already made a big mistake. It is going to cost everyone a crap ton of money.

    March 24, 2010 at 1:07 pm |
  382. Leanne

I think that the health care reform is a mistake. This reform will create higher taxes and the younger Americans are going to be the ones that are going to have to pay for it. The government is FORCING Americans to get insured and some Americans:

    A) can't afford it..
    B) don't want to get insured.

We shouldn't have to be FORCED to get insured health care if we don't want to and don't have to...

    March 24, 2010 at 1:08 pm |
  383. Jamie

I think that this is a milestone because the people that need help with they're heath or disabilities, those who need help with some of they're health care. They need all the help they can get. and, Obama is helping them with the issues that they have in life.

    March 24, 2010 at 1:08 pm |
  384. Kourtney

I think that it is a Mistake because maybe people should get out and get a job that supports health care. I dont think that it is right to just give people health care at all . they should have to earn it because you have people out there in the world that if you just gave them health care they are going to take it to the max and always be using wasting money that dont need to be.

I am not happy with the new bill because when I get older I am going to have to pay all this debt back. I will have a very low retirement money because of the spending of the country.

I think this is a big mistake it is not following the constitution and if it fines people for not having health care it could probably get our country in a even bigger problem with money.

  388. torii

i dont know my opinion on this, i am too young to understand most of what is going on because i havent exprienced anything like this. I am not the one worring about things like that in my family, it's my parents that needs to worry about it.

I think that its a good idea because it gives people health insurance who need it and can't afford it. But I don't think its fair for the government to make a law if it was proven we didn't want it.

10 years of taxes for 5 years of coverage in order to temporarilly balance budget is a milestone. I don't think so.

it is a mistake for the younger people who are going to be getting jobs in a couple years it will be hard because they have to worry about finding a job at the same time trying to pay for their health insurance

  393. Ian

No doubt this bill is going to be a very controversial topic but I for one am not a fan of the bill because you are basically paying for someone else’s injuries.

its happened many times before when a law goes through and nothing is done about it; no action is taken right away. I'm afraid the law will go through and we will be paying these taxes without getting the promised care. I think this might take a while to launch.

    March 24, 2010 at 2:37 pm |
  395. Neerav

The new health care bill is a step in the right direction.
It's better than just sitting and arguing about what should be in it and what shouldn't, as that will take forever and we don't have that much time.

I see it more as a mistake because we're paying tons of money for years and years for a coverage that's not as good as they make it sound. It's really just a sad excuse for something "To good to be true"

This has to be one of the greatest milestones of all times. It's great not only because people finaly get medical health but it will bring joy to all that are ill. I think that the people that are against this are only against it because thay havent gone through what many people have gone through, like losing a loved one or braking a limb.

    March 24, 2010 at 4:03 pm |
  402. zenat

many people that couldnt afford heath care have the ability to get it now. and if this doesnt work after a little while then there can be room for changes. mileastone.

  403. tyler

I think that the new health care plan wrong due to the fact that it goes against the right of the people. People should be able to buy their own health care plan as they wish and not be told to do so. This new law will not only contradict what our founding fathers have said in the constitution, but also the rights and freedom people have.

    March 24, 2010 at 4:35 pm |
  404. Dylan

This bill is a milestone of United States history. Many of the people who see it as a mistake are either ignorant of what is really in it, or believe the rumors. All it says is that you must buy healthcare, not today, but soon, around 2014, and this bill makes that healthcare cheaper. The greatest tax hike is on the wealthy, those who make 400% of the poverty line by the Department of Health and Human Services. As such, it is not bad. And those who are complaining about the debt, you would have it anyway, you would just be paying for those that are uninsured who drain money from the government for the bills. It also increases the access to preventative care for those who currently can't afford the monstrously expensive health care.

    March 24, 2010 at 4:37 pm |
  405. christina

i think that this a definite WRONG. he should not make everyone do something that they don't want to do.it goes against the constitution. i think that the government really needs to clean itself up or this is going to be sticky.

    March 24, 2010 at 4:46 pm |
  406. brittany

i think people should get to choose if they want health care.It iz a big mistake to make it an law.

    March 24, 2010 at 4:53 pm |
  407. Ian

I don't understand why people keep whining about this. The new law will give healthcare to people who either can't find jobs or hardly make any money at the jobs that they do have. As well as that, health insurance companies can't drop people and raise their rates when they get sick or injured. I think that people only oppose this because they are either Republicans who are too stubborn to agree with the Democrats, or they are freaking out because they think that the U.S. has started down the path to socialism. There's really no reason to panic. Every other developed nation in the world has socialized healthcare, and none of them seem to be having problems.

    March 24, 2010 at 4:57 pm |
  408. Chelsea

People need to get over the fact the healthcare has passed. For way too long people have died from not having proper care. For the ones that were born into a nice home with food and healthcare, they don't understatnd what it is like to get sick without it being treated. The healthcare bill was a good choice, and it will improve over the long run. Carl is the best!

    March 24, 2010 at 4:59 pm |
  409. Betty

I think that Obama has been working hard with the republicans to meet at the middle, but they aren't willing to give a little to get a little. This new healthcare law may not please everyone, but we're stuck with it now. No use crying over spilt milk. (Carl, get some new puns!)

    March 24, 2010 at 5:05 pm |
  410. brayden

I think its a mistake because the people who can afford health care... the taxes will go up and that could be a bad thing for some of the people.

    March 24, 2010 at 5:19 pm |
  411. Jenna

This was a complete mistake. The republicans are doing their best to stop this nonsense, which I am proud of. It should have been a vote up to citizens of the U.S. since it will effect us. The government run health care will not do anything but ruin our country during this crisis of economy.

    March 24, 2010 at 5:19 pm |
  412. Julia

I think that the health care bill is a milestone. For the people who are financially struggling, it will bring relief to them, and I think it will help most people in a long run.

  413. Aiden

    March 24, 2010 at 5:45 pm |
  414. Max

I agree with the health care reform. It gives Americans simple health rights, and no matter what you do you can't please everyone. This is a step forward in getting the US out of the Recession.

    March 24, 2010 at 6:11 pm |
  415. Ruth

I am undecided about the topic of health care reform. In some ways it is very good and can help those people who do not have health care now but on the other hand it brings up the cost of healthcare for lots of other families.

    March 24, 2010 at 6:18 pm |
  416. Jeffery

i dont know part of me is saying its a milestone but it doesnt cover all the health issues

    March 24, 2010 at 6:24 pm |
  417. Alexander

Personally, I disagree with the healthcare bill. From my point of view, this is why: All of the care promised in the U.S. by MVP, MediCare, Social Security, etc. is being cancelled when it is needed. But if these companies and government-appointed businesses keep saying that they are going to give a certain coverage, and someone pays for it, and those companies do not give the purchased coverage when it's needed or they say that they "no longer offer that coverage", that's practically stealing. If these businesses offer a coverage and someone pays for it, and it's needed, they should pay for what they're supposed to, and if it is something that they don't want to pay for and it is part of a specific coverage, then maybe they shouldn't be offering it. So what this bill is supposed to do, if passed, is actually help bring the coverages of these companies back up so they can actually pay for hospital visits, medications, etc. that are needed by people who pay for the services of the companies and businesses, but according to most Republicans, it will end in a larger deficit than right now. I mean, $940 BILLION DOLLARS??? ARE YOU KIDDING ME??? The Government could have EASILY shortened things in the bill and cut the cost RIGHT IN HALF!!!

    March 24, 2010 at 6:25 pm |
  418. Steve

I feel that this can reduce the cost of medical costs and I think its really effective to people who are having trouble with the economy. JUst because some people are rich doesn't mean everyone is able to pay for every emergency.

    March 24, 2010 at 6:27 pm |
  419. Hassan

In all these years many presidents have tried to pass a bill like this health care bill, and all have failed. Obama, already being the first african american president, will also go down in history for passing this bill, whether it works or doesnt.

    March 24, 2010 at 6:54 pm |
  420. Sarah

    Mistake.

Yes, Health care is a good thing..but requiring it is just dumb. It goes against the Constitution and it doesn't make sense. It is required to buy it and if you don't buy it you are sent to jail. How is that Constitutional? We should not be forced to buy something if we don't want to. This is making us do that!

Everyone is/was talking about "What debt will we be leaving for our children and their children?". WELL, this is making that debt worse!

Also, this is a modern day Robin Hood situation. Stealing from the rich and giving to the poor. The poor did not earn that money and the rich DID! They worked hard for that money, WHY do they have to give it up for someone who is not even willing to work for themselves and they're loved ones?! And, yes, i get it. People are working hard and just cant get the money...but that is NOT the rich people's fault, and the rich had nothing to do with the fact that the poor cant get enough money. The rich earned their money. And should be aloud to keep it.

THIS IS NOT A COMMUNIST NATION! And hopefully never will be. There are social classes. And, therefore, stealing from the rich and giving to the poor is unconstitutional!

Why in the world do you really have to use 22 pens to sing a document that the American people don't want. This is a big mistake that we will have to pay for. I say we should burn those pens.

    March 24, 2010 at 7:31 pm |
  423. Morgan

The new healthcare bill is unconstitunal. If you want health insurance you have to work for it. And now President Omaba is going to force people to get healthcare. What if some people choose not to work hard and they dont have the money to pay for health insurance? What if you dont want health insurance? Well now thats to bad now cause President Obama is now going to force you to have healthcare no matter what. This is just like the book 1984 where the government controls everything. And from the looks of it President Obama seems to be getting a lot of ideas from that book. HE'S TRYING TO CONTROL HOW MUCH SALT YOU EAT!!!! This is redicilous. TOP RAMEN WOULD BE TAKEN OFF THE SHELVES!!!! He is trying to take away our freedom and he is disobeying out constituion. This healthcare bill is just one more step closer to a government take over!!!

    March 24, 2010 at 7:41 pm |
  424. Fraz

I think that the healthcare plan was a mistake and it wasn't a very good idea, because American citizens have their own rights to choose if they need insurance or not.

    March 24, 2010 at 7:55 pm |
  425. Haley

I like the idea. I got sick in the States once and the first thing doctors did was run our credit card. Thats disgusting. Why can't the wealthy spare some money for higher taxes?

    March 24, 2010 at 7:59 pm |
  426. Ali

What is so bad about the health care reform bill? It provides health care to those who need it but can't afford it. This is a huge jump toward a future free of corrupt health care insurance agencies and the rejection of patients due to their insurance. It will allow all patients to receive the equal amount of care and attention they deserve. So why do the Republicans reject it so much? Could there be a deeper reason as to why their going through so much trouble as to try to repeal this law? Is there some thing their not telling us that could might as well be the driving force of their aggressive attacks against the law?

    March 24, 2010 at 8:04 pm |
  427. Billy

What the president is trying to do is very good,Istrongly believe every american should have healthcare. But, in these economic times, this plan is a mistake. The U.s. doesn't have the money to fund this.Where will they get it?Us.Taxes are expected to rise 50%.It is not the time for healthcare, and the president is leading himself into trouble. This healtcare plan is sure to worsen the economy.

This is illegal and wrong... I'll tell you why. Our country was founded on the principal of a small government. This is a BIG step to a BIG government. Thats wrong and its not what the people want. people cannot be denied health care some people might denied that right with this law.

i think it's a mistake, many familys can not afford stuff like that. Were shutting down schools because we cant afford it but we can afford to just go out and get healthcare......this is all wrong!

People should not be forced to buy insurence.People couuld put there money in the bank not give it to the insurence company. You could get your money back from the bank but you can't get it back from the insurence company.

    March 24, 2010 at 9:30 pm |
  432. Kate

I think that this bill will have some great advantages, but also some disadvantages. It will be good for people when they need medical assistance. It will be hard for people who are unable to afford their healthcare in the first place, so that will be one thing that will be tough with this new bill. But I think that it will help people in the long run.

    March 24, 2010 at 10:02 pm |

I think that this is a bad Idea, in the future people won't want to work hard for what they earn if it's all going to be given away anyway not only is it going to effect America but it's going to shorten the amount of doctors in America, I think this definitely a wrong decision.

I think the health care bill was a mistake because some familys can not afford stuff like that. Another reason is that we are all ready in a ressision so the bill will just make taxes go up and cause another hole of stress.

    March 24, 2010 at 11:10 pm |
  436. Giana

Parts of it could benefit some people without health care. Other parts though could hurt those with health care. 10 years of taxes for 5 years of coverage definitely doesn't help all people.

    March 24, 2010 at 11:55 pm |
  437. Allison

The health care bill was not a good idea. The Obama administration is taxing the supposed 'rich' people in order to get everyone healthcare. I do not think that its fair that the 'rich' should be forced to pay more then the people who do not work. It isnt fair to the 'rich,' some of which whose families have been working hard for generations, and occasionally losing everything before they began to prosper. i have no suggestions on what could have been done different. All I know is that this could possible ruin the worlds best medical system. We the people do not even know if this only cover sugeries or goes as far as to cover dental procedures. This whole law seems shady.

well i think the new health care reform is just a mistake we should live with it in case we can live with it americas the land of the free

    March 25, 2010 at 7:10 am |
  439. Holly

I think this is a mistake because many people that are healthy have to have health care. If people are healthy and don't want to pay for it they shouldn't have to its their choice not the House of Representatives. They may not even use $875 billion to fix this problem with health care it could cost more then that.

    March 25, 2010 at 7:20 am |
  440. Savannah

This bill provides so many people with eligibility for health care, and in the end, I think it will help more people than it will hurt. True, some people may not be able to afford it, but that only applies to a small portion of the U.S. Some people are calling it "unconstitutional" but when it really comes down to it, this bill is helping the greater population of America.

    March 25, 2010 at 7:37 am |
  441. Mat

I think that if people dont want health care then they shouldnt have. I think that people should have the right to decide if they want health cae or not.

    March 25, 2010 at 8:13 am |
  442. Ashleigh

I think it is good that the health care is passed it better for the people who cant pay there hospital bill and cant afford to pay for it.

    March 25, 2010 at 8:34 am |
  443. sadie

i think it was a milestone because the president did the right think to do for health care.

    March 25, 2010 at 8:35 am |
  444. Shanbril

I think the health car reform is a milestone because some people don't have the proper car and if we can pay for other things..........Why can't we pay for health care?

    March 25, 2010 at 8:36 am |
  445. Kayla

I agree with the health care reform bill because people that are having health issues will not have to worry about it anymore, and it will get better over time.

    March 25, 2010 at 8:36 am |
  446. Mlaysha

I think that the health care reform is a good thing because my grandfather is in and out off the hospital and it's hard for him and my grandmother to pay for the medications. And with this health care it can make paying for medications more easier.

I think the health care reform is a milestone because some people don't have the proper care and if we can pay for some other things.........Why can't we pay for health care?

I THINK THIS IS A MILESTONE BECAUSE ALL OF THESE YEARS WE FINALLY FOUND SOME ONE TO OPPOSE THIS HEALTH CARE BILL

    March 25, 2010 at 8:48 am |
  453. Laylah

I think that the Health Care Bill is a milestone because many people have tried to pass this law, and Obama has finally done so.

    March 25, 2010 at 8:49 am |
  454. makayla

i think that its a good idea because many people are struggling to find money for their health care an this is a good chance of showing each american that he cares

    March 25, 2010 at 8:51 am |

this country is one step away from being communist

    March 25, 2010 at 8:54 am |

I think that this is a good idea. This will help poorer people have medical treatment for cheaper prices, but I am not totally convinced on this subject.

I think it's good cuz all these people live without healthcare and one these poeple are going to die one day without it .

    March 25, 2010 at 9:10 am |

It is a milestone because we need to be like the other countries and have free health care.

i feel that obama is making a good choice when he was getting elected he told exactly what he was going to do so all the people mad about it now need to shutup and let the man do his job

    March 25, 2010 at 9:30 am |
  462. Olivia

I think President Obama has good intentions, but he is going about this reform all wrong. He needs to consider a public vote. This is a big issue. The way he is doing reform is permanant, he is completeing this task too quickly to consider all the thoughts of American people. He needs to think about what the majority of us need. Just because a minority needs help does not mean we put all of America's people in the same boat so you can help everyone. Obama needs to look at what everybody is saying. Even those who need healthcare are saying that this is not the way to do it.

    March 25, 2010 at 9:30 am |
  463. marilyn

I THINK THAT PREZIDENT BARACK OBAMA IS DOING THE BEST HE CAN AND PEOPLE SHOULD KNOW THAT HE CAN'T FIX EVERYTHING OVER NIGHT SO THEY CAN CHILL OUT!!

  464. Naomi

the republicans really need to stop i know if they were a democrat they would want they health care. Dont nobody care what the republicans say half of America needs health care

    March 25, 2010 at 9:34 am |
  465. Olivia

I am so glad that Obama is excited to get busy in his office as president, but this is not the way. You cannnot rush things like this. This is a reform that takes time. Who says it's broken anyway? Yea, we don't have worldwide healthcare so what? Healthcare is a privelege not a right. Natural selection is a part of nature, sometimes in order to learn people have to make mistakes though.

    March 25, 2010 at 9:34 am |
  466. Sam

I don't think that the bill should have passed because I don't think that every American should be forced or to be told they need to buy insurance.

    March 25, 2010 at 9:45 am |
  467. Hunter

It doesn't really make a difference cause after everything is done you are still pretty much paying the same you wold if the bill had not gone through

    March 25, 2010 at 9:51 am |
  468. Kookie

I Feel The Bill Shouldnt Have Been passed because you cant make people by health insurance if they dont want it... If they didnt want well thats on them

    March 25, 2010 at 9:54 am |
  469. Emma

I don't think I know enough about the bill to make a good decision about whether the bill should have been passed. It seems like it would be a good thing for everyone to have healthcare, but if people feel like their rights are being taken from them then they shouldn't be forced to buy healthcare. I'm not sure what side I'm on.

    March 25, 2010 at 10:01 am |

It was a big mistake now we have to have higher taxes and probably the country is going to be in more debt.

    March 25, 2010 at 10:10 am |
  471. adam

its a huge mistake. You don't need to fix anything that aint broken.

    I think it's a milestone of a mistake!

    March 25, 2010 at 10:52 am |
  473. Kayleigh

Honestly, I think this health care bill was a big mistake. We are wasting way too much money that we need to save instead of spend. Sooner or later it will cost the United States a ton of money and for people who make more money then others their taxes will increase.

    March 25, 2010 at 10:55 am |
  474. Alex

This is not a good idea. $875 Billion dollars!

    March 25, 2010 at 11:12 am |
  475. Mason

Personally, im not sure if this new law is a milestone or a mistake. It has both good and bad effects that everyone has their own opinion on. The good qualities that some people talk about really get canceled out by the negative ones, and vise versa. To make this law as good as it could possibly be i feel it should have been thought about and examined much more than it was. It should definitely be improved just because of all the negative effects.

    March 25, 2010 at 11:33 am |
  476. keandre

    I think that its going to be very good for our economy =}

    March 25, 2010 at 11:34 am |
  477. Alexis

This is a very very BIG mistake because the people want the law to be right and for it to happen fast, at this time the law is going fast but it is very wrong. It's really not what we want.

    March 25, 2010 at 11:45 am |
  478. danny

Big mistake! Obama wants change, but he does not know what change we want. He should step in our shoes and see what we want. He doesn't know because he gets all his health care from the white house and he does't have to pay for it.

    March 25, 2010 at 11:49 am |
  479. Brian

I can see both sides of the story because one one side you can see it helping so many people but on the other side you can see it hurting some people. All that the government is doing is spending money, its ridiculous.

    March 25, 2010 at 11:53 am |
  480. Phyllis

I think it is a good idea to make sure everyone has health insurance but it’s a bad idea to make a law that says they have to hate it. Laws shouldn’t force people to do things they don’t want to do.

    March 25, 2010 at 11:54 am |
  481. Ben

it could be a mistake or it could help i don't know enough on the subject to predict it well.

    March 25, 2010 at 11:55 am |

I think its a mistake because many people in the usa cant afford it. And when taxes are expected to rise, people will just be getting screwed over. More people will be in dept.

    March 25, 2010 at 11:56 am |
  483. Rodney

i think it is a mistake because most people may not be able to aford the heath care

    March 25, 2010 at 11:56 am |

    March 25, 2010 at 11:56 am |
  485. carley

i think it's a mistake, many familys can not afford stuff like that. Were shutting down schools because we cant afford it but we can afford to just go out and get healthcare......this is all wrong!

    March 25, 2010 at 11:57 am |
  486. Derek

I think it's a milestone, because look at our old healthcare system...it wasn't working. Why not try something new? Our country is in great need of change and I just wish the republicans would understand that.

    March 25, 2010 at 11:57 am |
  487. carley

I am on the fence I don't know what I think about it. I think it will help people without jobs for when they go into hospitals so they can pay for their visit.

  488. sarah

I think its a mistake because many people in the usa cant afford it. And when taxes are expected to rise, people will just be getting screwed over. More people will be in dept. This is just wrong

    March 25, 2010 at 11:58 am |
  489. Paige

I think that this is a mistake because not a lot of people can afford it. And we have enough problems with money as it was before.

    March 25, 2010 at 11:59 am |
  490. Katelyn

I feel that the health care law is foolish because for the people that are richer have to pay more for it. So they are paying for a lot of what people need. Or in other words they are paying for other people's medical visits.

    March 25, 2010 at 11:59 am |
  491. Jocelyn

This could be a mistake. Some people don't want health care or can't afford it. It shouldn't be law that they have to buy health care.

    March 25, 2010 at 12:00 pm |
  492. j.

This is just putting us in more in debt.*

    March 25, 2010 at 12:01 pm |
  493. Jocelyn

I think people shouldn't be forced to get health care. Not everyone can afford it. That's why they don't already have it. duh.

    March 25, 2010 at 12:04 pm |
  494. Travis

The president hopes to change the world, but so far the isn't working so well for him.

    March 25, 2010 at 12:41 pm |

i think that it is good because everyone needs health care because alot people get sick now and alot of people can't afford it but now that obama passed the law and now people can get health insurance!

    March 25, 2010 at 1:05 pm |
  497. Brandon

ithink it is uncostitutional against are rights as americans.

I think that free health care is an milestone. This can help billions of people young or old. This one of the best bills passed so far. I, as an citizen greatly thank all those who had anything to do with the bill.

    March 25, 2010 at 1:53 pm |
  500. chris

i think carl is a good anchor but he sometimes have corny jokes.i also think that the healthcare billis a milestone.

    March 25, 2010 at 1:56 pm |
  501. Armani

This is a very good milestone for us (the people) that really need health care insurance. For example think of your granparent, anyone that is suffering with their illness and not being able to have the money or insurance to pay the doctor's bill. Why? Because they don't have healthcare insurance:)

    March 25, 2010 at 1:57 pm |
  502. Daniell

...OUR forefathers would spit in our faces if they heard WE had passed this unflatteringly biased bill.

    March 25, 2010 at 2:28 pm |
  503. Will

This is a huge mistake made by the government. The economy is in terrible shape and we can't risk anything. Let's face it not everyone wants to spend money on health insurance and those hat do will be getting less now that this bill has been passed. I am not a republican or a democrat, but come on this will not help. Bill Clinton tried to pass this bill and we were doing fine until the Obama administration was put into office. So if we were doing good why change it and risk of a bad mistake?

    March 25, 2010 at 3:01 pm |
  504. Roger

The government made a big mistake. What if you can't afford health insurance? Then your probable get a fine.

    March 25, 2010 at 3:02 pm |
  505. Shelby

I just don't know...I mean I think it's in the right direction, they have the right idea, but I'm not sure if they're really thinking how it will work for the American people. I don't know how it will affect my family– everybody at my house has bad vision problems and most of us have at least one other health problem, and we have to skimp and save on a lot of things even with the health insurance we have, which conviently DOES NOT pay for glases/eye exams/contacts. I just hope this will work. But it is a milestone.

    March 25, 2010 at 3:43 pm |
  506. Katie

I think that it doesn't affect all of us, including me, so i dont really have an opinion!

    March 25, 2010 at 3:49 pm |
  507. Elysabeth

I think it's a HUGE mistake. I think Obama will be the worst president. Unless he can pull this country together which I highly doubt that.

    March 25, 2010 at 3:56 pm |
  508. Jordan

i personally think it was a mistake because people are going to have too bye it and some people might not be ble to afford it......

    March 25, 2010 at 4:38 pm |
  509. Joseph

I believe that this bill is a mistake because, first of all, most Americans don't want it. Also, If it;s such a great bill, then why did so much bribing have to take place? Second of all, we are $12 trillion in debt. Who will pay for all this?

    March 25, 2010 at 4:55 pm |
  510. Ashley

I think it was a big mistake because we all deserve health care but some people just don't like the bill that is now law i hate it. It is just a big mistake and he should have never passed.

    March 25, 2010 at 4:56 pm |
  511. Lulu

I only have to things to say about this " Big Mistake"...Its seems like the government is now having more control then ever! ..But i do agree everyone needs health insurance , but how about working on another plan?

    March 25, 2010 at 5:25 pm |
  512. Becca

Most people i meet say this is a mistake. Plus with all those states bringing up lawsutes it should be clear NO ONE wants this bill. its going against our rights as an american. we shouldn't be forced to by government healthcare.

    March 25, 2010 at 5:27 pm |
  513. Cheyenne

I think its worth a try. People may not be able to afford health care now but they might in the future. This could help people who pay alot of medical bills. We might have to pay more money but it will keep us safe!

    March 25, 2010 at 5:41 pm |
  514. Jacob

Thank you Nancy Pelosi and fellow and Demcrats, for ruining America. This monumental bill will destroy many lives of Americans. Huge tax increases will lower the standard of living millions of Americans and ruin educational and job opprutunities. What colleges some eople may be able to afford now, will be a dream 10 years from now. The benefits on this bill are not strong either! Your mindset on distributing the wealth to people who don't deserve this is twisted and wrong. Shame on you Democrats, hame on you.

    March 25, 2010 at 5:56 pm |
  515. Brandon

I think that we do need better healthcare coverage, but we needed to take it one step at a time. A lot of this healthcare bill doesn't even have to do with healthcare; they're almost like hidden laws being passed.

    March 25, 2010 at 6:27 pm |
  516. Karra

I think that Obama's health care reform is a mistake. People will have to pay for something that they might not want to pay for. Which I think is no good.

    March 25, 2010 at 6:29 pm |
  517. Diana

Obama's health care reform is a mistake because it will cost money for it, and we are already in debt, and it will get health care insurance company's out of business, so the insurance company's that are in business will be more expensive. How will this help anything? What was Obama thinking?

    March 25, 2010 at 7:02 pm |
  518. Leah

This subject is debatable, but in the long run it will help more then hurt more. I think this is a good step forward and will be successful in the future.

    March 25, 2010 at 7:42 pm |
  519. Zach

Yes, I know that President Obama has pretty much made the BIGGEST mistake in the United States finacial history in a whole lot of people's eyes. Well, they can think what they want, but I think that the signing of the healthcare bill was a mistake AND a huge milestone.Come on, if this works (notice i said If) , Obama will not only be praised, this will lower our debt and get lots of people health care. I think it's worth a try.

    March 25, 2010 at 7:50 pm |
  520. Kaitlyn

If there is enough money to spend 875 million dollars, then why are my teachers getting a pay cut.... They cut $118 per student. Where is the money for this BIG health care bill coming from? My parents and my teachers!! All for the goverment to make the US a socialist country!

    March 25, 2010 at 7:52 pm |
  521. spencer

What obame should do is create jobs in countrys that need it the most
for example (michigan) our economy sucks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! china has more people and still doing better than us.

    March 25, 2010 at 7:54 pm |
  522. Luke

Do americans need to buy TV's? Do we need to buy cell phones? Or Books? Or Cars? No! So why should we have to buy health care insurance and get this country into more debt!

    March 25, 2010 at 7:54 pm |
  523. Luke

Government run healthcare requires money. When you don't have that money you make debt. When there is too much debt the government increses taxes. When there is way to much debt the government increses taxes on everyone, not just the rich. I'm only 13 and I know this but the president either doesn't know this or is ignoring it!

    March 25, 2010 at 8:08 pm |
  524. Mal

I definently think the Health Care Reform bill was a mistake americans should never have to be forced to buy something, that's going against our constitutional rights. What I want to know is how this bill ever got passed in the first place.

    March 25, 2010 at 8:14 pm |
  525. Jessica

I think that it's a HUGE mistake! America is already so far in debt that it simply doesn't make sense to keep spending money that we don't have. As Americans we have the right to make choices, that SHOULD include the right to choose whether or not we want healthcare.

    March 25, 2010 at 8:44 pm |
  526. Madison

This health care reform is completely a milestone. Until you put yourself in others shoes that have to choose between buying groceries and going to the doctor, you will not realize how great this will be for a lot of people.

    March 25, 2010 at 8:59 pm |
  527. jose

it simply has not much effect just like a wet firework, the bill needs more spark!

    March 25, 2010 at 9:08 pm |
  528. Olivia

So what are we going into a communist country now? Since when and why are we being told to what to buy. This is a mistake that could lead to vilonce cosidering we are already having law suits set up for mr Obama. I wish I could find the pride for my country but now I just can't find it in me anymore.

    March 25, 2010 at 9:20 pm |

why do people think about health care

    March 25, 2010 at 9:48 pm |
  530. Leanna

I say milestone for people who can't aford health care. Like someone with a mental illness or cancer.

    March 25, 2010 at 9:49 pm |
  531. Linda

This Health care bill is a MISTAKE!!! It's going to raise our taxes and not only that, but I feel that by making this bill a law we are throwing away everything that our ancestors from 1775 has done for us into the the trash can.

    March 25, 2010 at 10:16 pm |
  532. Siddiqui

President Obama's bill will not only change America but let everyone have affordable health care. Most people who retire and are in their old age have to almost pay a quarter of a million dollars for their medication. We need to start thinking about our own future right now rather than what is happening today.

    March 25, 2010 at 10:17 pm |
  533. Kellye

As American citizens, I think that we should really look into what Senate and President Obama really has to offer to us. Sure, this new Health bill passed Senate, and will be signed as a Law on Tuesday, but what will REALLY come out of this new law? Will the nation be put farther into debt than before, or will it somehow pull us out of this dump? I support Obama, have since day one, but all I am saying is that there are different views on this subject as it is touchy, is it really a GOOD idea? Think of it America. This could be our economic downfall. Or it could save us. As America's future, we 16, 17, 18 year olds REALLY need to start considering these things, as they will play into our lives some day, some how. Thank you. CNN STUDENT NEWS ROCK!! Love ya, Carl!!

It it is not constitutional. It cost money that we are borrowing from other nations. People will have to pay for something that they really don't want to get or pay for.

The health care reform is one of the biggest mistakes in humanity. Look at England and Canada who have this system. It pretty much failed; why did Obama want this? This economy is tough. This bill costs so much money, and we are in deep deep debt already. What's the deal? The government should NOT force us to get healthcare. America is going down.

    March 25, 2010 at 11:07 pm |
  536. Jerry

I think this bill isnt great for the nation because it was designed for the non tax paying and no healthcare part of the population meaning that it will raise taxes and the nontaxpaying group will grow due to too many taxes. if that happens lets redo the boston tea party! Oh and more of the taxes will go to this bill. Also thats exactley what it is a bill, a bill for the entire country to pay every tax season.

  537. Aditya

Obama's health care reform is a huge mistake because first of all, it costs lots of money. Currently, we are in major debt and with all of this, it will soon bail out more company's. This will do us no good, might as well do something better to protect our nation.

i do not think obama's health care is a mistake... you dont really know if its mistake if you havent tried it out yet and who knows this healhcare thing actually might pull threw.

I think that its good for everyone to have health care, but I don't think that the government is doing it in the right way.

    March 26, 2010 at 8:56 am |
  540. Morgan

I think this health care reform is a mistake because it will take a lot of money for it, and if we are going to spend money on this why dont we spend money on something more important. Yeah we do need better health care but it needs to be in steps instead of all at once.

This is the goverments plan, and the goverment is doing a bad job. The health care bill passed because of two people. The Republican house Representatives and the some news anchors( not you Carl) as i have heard. The Republicans only care about being realected thats their first priority, and the anchors only care about rating. Health Care doesn't come first in prioritorty and thats why it got passed. Big, Big Mistake.

  543. alyia

obammas health care is a mastake because it will cost a lot of money just to do what he is doing. Well i actully think it both because it will be so much money and plus he might really need it if hes talking about it so much. That is why i think it should be both of them .well its time to go bye!

  544. Kinzy

i think it was a major mistake.
i havent talked to anyone that is agreeing with it...

i think Obama is make a huge mistake. He needs to be thinking about more than just himself. Our country is getting bad enough...and with Obama leading this country it's going to be a huge wreck! Obama needs to wake up and open his eyes and know that we are just going down hill wiht all of his bad choices!

The health care reform bill isn't so special that Obama needs to sign it with 22 pens. Is it? That was pathetic, then they put them in a museum. Rediculous!!!!

I think that this a huge mistake. I feel as though we are screaming that we need jobs, and our government is totally ignoring us. It angers me to the extreme. Unemployment is rising, and all our legislators are concerned with is health care. Also, how does our president expect people who have no insurance because they can't afford it to pay the fines? Washington needs a major wake-up call, especially with the upcoming elections.

    March 26, 2010 at 1:49 pm |
  550. Eli

Great, more legislators that refuse to listen to their voters... thank goodness there is the upcoming elections, maybe we will get some legislators that are such liars...

I think that it's a big waste of time and money. It might work, but right now, it doesn't look like a 'miracale' people were looking forward to.

This bill is a milestone for many people and not for some others because we all have different opinions about things and their are always consequences for the actions we all take. What would you do if someone in your family or you was about to die because you didn't have health insurance. Alot of people can't afford health insurance because of this recession.

This health care reform bill is a wake up call. This is all we need (and other things) to get the economy back to nomal in the first place. Me being a democrat I agree with this bill but I do think that it could still use some changes. you can't make somebody do something they don't want to do. Forcing the people to get health insurance is why the government is getting all of these threatening messages. you have to give the people what they want not what you want...
What I think should be done to the bill is not force, and send someone out to the public and private protesters, people, and kids. I'd stay sure that the person they send out stays anonomys.

With minor changes to this bill I think that this bill will be better, without threats and suited for what people want.

    March 26, 2010 at 5:07 pm |
  553. Melia

I think this was an excelent idea i just wish so many people wern't opposed towards it. Some people are thinking that the don't like it cause now they have to get health insurance. But, that may be what we need. But the people whom do have health insurance are glad because they won't have to pay for the people whom don't.

    March 26, 2010 at 5:08 pm |
  554. Daniel

Really I think it's kinda a milestone because he is already the first black president and now this though we (the United States) are in debt.

    BIG MISTAKE !!
It is going to make the deficit billions more and I don't think it will help many people at all. The people it does help are the ones who live off the government in the first place. We don't need to help them anymore!

    March 26, 2010 at 5:41 pm |
  557. Aaron

The controversy surrounding the Health Care bill doesn't surprise me, many big decisions in Congress are. Equal Rights passed by only one vote, and the desegregation of public schools happened only under an executive order from the President, not Congress. It is law now, why don't we see how it works before we begin dooming it to fail?

    March 26, 2010 at 6:43 pm |
  558. Ronaldino

I was about to get on here and rant about how mad I am about the democrats ruining America. But then I noticed that about 300 other people have already done that, and I thank you. If you think this bill is a good idea, then I have a bridge I'd like to sell you.
Interesting that I just got done reading animal farm a few days before the bill passed.

I think Obama is making a milestone out of this health care reform. the health care status of today is very low and we need to put it back together. Obama is making a lot of since of this!

I don't know if it's a milestone or a mistake because we don't know whats in it. If we knew, I bet we would get a better answer. The new on TV is telling us what to believe, but I honestly think that we should look over the law and see what it says.

    March 26, 2010 at 11:56 pm |
  566. Kalina

This is an interesting debate to me, mainly because it's all opinion that can change our country. I think that it's a milestone because now people that need it can get the health care and providence that they need. I also think it's a mistake because there are some people that can't even afford the thing and if they don't get it they might be punished for it (considering it's a law now).

    March 27, 2010 at 1:58 am |

Its a mistake because the us is already in debt why woulg obama want to spent more mony. Also my family does not have a lot of mony and then we would have to pay for this.

    March 27, 2010 at 12:50 pm |

i think presdent obamas health care reform is just more bills to pay and if you don;t get health care you will be fine.

    March 27, 2010 at 2:44 pm |
  571. Sam

i think health care reform is just more bills to pay. and if you don't get health care you would be fine.also some people don't have enough money to pay for health care. IT IS TOO MUCH MONEY.

    March 27, 2010 at 2:50 pm |
  572. jose

Being a fellow Cuban without health care i think the health care reform is an awful idea due to the the fact that there going to force people to get health care didnt they ever think that american that don't have it cant afford it they should give federal help to american that cant afford it and the only reason this became law is because they got rid of federal funding for abortions if that wouldn't have happened the would have been more democrats not for the bill in that case not passing the bill

    March 27, 2010 at 9:44 pm |
  573. Gabi

Anyway we make the Health Care Bill there is always going to be a group of people who don`t like the bill.

    March 27, 2010 at 10:46 pm |
  574. Mark

I think it's a mistake to pass the health care reform, because all the people that have health care already are going to have to pay for the people that don't have it.

    March 27, 2010 at 11:52 pm |
  575. Monisola

Many people are ignorant of what is actually in the bill, and base their opinions what they hear in the news or what their family members think. This bill is going to be a milestone, and people need to stop being selfish and realize how beneficial this is going to be for millions of americans; and stop allowing politicians, whether democrat or republican, to use your ignorance to trick you. Go and take the time to read the bill yourself so you can come up with a real opinion.

    March 28, 2010 at 8:53 am |
  576. Brian

For those who are opposed to this healthcare reform, if you care more about national debt than your personal health, there is a real simple solution if you are true to your words (save the empty talk)-

Ask you parents to have you dropped from their policy immediately.
By doing so you obviously can make a dunt on deducing the national debt.

Give it a try, and let us know what happened.

    I will believe you.

    March 28, 2010 at 8:53 am |
  577. Elisha

Think about the families who can't afford health care. You would want health care for your child, even if you couldn't afford it. some families want to ensure their kids the best way they know, and this bill is the first step in making that happened. Some people can afford the greatest health care, some people can't. This is the best way to help those who cant afford it.

    March 28, 2010 at 9:03 am |
  578. Tom

Health Care Reform is wrong. The government can NOT force us to buy somthing we don't want. It would also add to the recession because the people that work in health care would be jobless. It will end up costing more than its worth.

    March 28, 2010 at 12:38 pm |
  579. savannah

Milestone are you kidding me I agree with every one else this was a huge mistake this bill is the worst in history its like you asked for a coke and the person gives you a hotchoclate its just not right I mean I was hoping it didnt get signed in the first place. I think that Mr.barack Obama needs to listen to people more often then congress because who votes for people in congress we do so yeah it was a huge misake.

    March 28, 2010 at 7:46 pm |
  580. Amanda

huge mistake now americans will have to pay so much more in tax dollars.

they are forcing us to have a health care plane,i thought this was the land of the free

    March 29, 2010 at 7:07 pm |
  582. marcus

Although people with Health care will be paying for those without Health care i think this is a milestone. it is giving families that are less fortunate a chance to give their families the health care that they need. This is the best way for those families to get healthcare.

  583. Cody

I think that everyone that there is pros and cons to this bill. Just like everything else. Some people see only bad and others see only good. Its hard to say what will happen though.Hopefully it will work out in the end and turn out to be a good thing, but i personally have a bad feeling about the bill.

    March 30, 2010 at 9:41 am |
  584. Jillian

I am very uneasy about the whole "effecting every American" comment. I know it takes everyone to fix the mistake of our government but when the people in the white house have million of dollars worth of decorations and parties my question is where does the constant flow of money come from?

    March 30, 2010 at 9:47 am |
  585. Lindsey

I'm not really sure where I stand on this subject. I see both sides and I'll have to do some hardcore thinking before deciding. I see one side that everyone will have healthcare even if they can't afford it. But I also see the other side that hard working people have to pay for the health of those who can't afford it and that's not fair.

    March 30, 2010 at 9:48 am |
  586. Megan

Obviously, the healthcare reform bill will help some people, but I think it will hurt more than it helps. To those who can't afford healthcare, this is a great idea. Those who already have a good plan, though, won't benefit any from this new one. It's great that more people will have access to healthcare that didn't before, but I think it will hurt our country as a whole.

    March 30, 2010 at 9:50 am |
  587. adam

it is most definately a milestone. president teddy roosevelt was trying to have a health care bill passed. a long with FDR who also tryed getting a socialized healthcare bill passed. so this is a huge milestone.

    March 30, 2010 at 9:51 am |
  588. Melissa

I believe the healthy care reform bill is both a milestone and a mistake. The reason I think this is, it is a big move for America and we haven't done something with this magnitude for a long time. For this reason, it is a milestone. This is also a mistake because this is gonna cost people who have good-paying jobs have to pay for the healthcare of those who do not have jobs or don't have high-paying jobs. This will affect many people, both rich and poor. Many people are in conflict over this bill but they need to realize that once it is signed and through the House, it is law and will affect them, whether they like it or not.

    March 30, 2010 at 9:52 am |
  589. Guillermo

Passage of Health Care reform is definitely a milestone, and, I think, opposed by so many due to misinformation by Republicans who want Obama to fail at any cost. No, it's not a perfect law, but it can be tweeked in coming years to improve it. Health care is a right that all Americans should enjoy but do not now.

    March 30, 2010 at 9:52 am |
  590. wesley

I think that almost everything Obama has done is wrong and at the streak that he is going on America will be a failing nation by the end of his first term

    March 30, 2010 at 9:52 am |
  591. John

I think it is a mistake because we are in a ressecion and we just should focus on that instead of the healthcare bill, and borrowing money from other countries. or we're just going to be like one of the empires from history and just diseppear, like the inca empire.

    March 30, 2010 at 9:53 am |
  592. Bethany

Although I don't know all the ins and outs of this plan, I am still against it. From what I understand it is requiring everyone to have healthcare and if you can't afford it, the government will provide it for you. While this really would truly benefit many citizens, there are many more who would take advantage of this. This plan make the hard workers pay more and those with no motivation have no incentive to get a job because they can get everything they need for free with the excessive wellfare in this country.

    March 30, 2010 at 9:53 am |
  593. mark

its a big mistake, those socialists just want to make one more thing government run. most people ask what it will do, what it will do for hard working people who make a nice sum of money, its going to take it and give it to bob who does nothing with his life and lives at home while getting federal aid and welfare. One thing that i don't agree with FDR on that one.

    March 30, 2010 at 10:00 am |
  594. Michael

The only mistake about this bill is that the insurance companies are still in charge, and we still do not have universal healthcare.
The 1st problem with privatized insurance is that insurance companies first seek profit.
Every other industrialized country has universal healthcare, and countries like England and France have healthier lives and longer life spans.
The CBO projects this bill will in fact save us money.
There are many socialized things in our society, such as the fire department, our public education. A socialized health care system is a step in a morally and financially responsible direction

    March 30, 2010 at 10:50 am |
  595. Eric

Many people feel that sharing their hard earned money is wrong.
But many people don't realize that without the working-class American to work in our factories and carry out these jobs, we cannot build our country. There are millions of Americans that work hard seven days a week for their whole lives and have nothing to show for it.
It is unfair to say poor people are poor because they didn't work hard enough. Poor people usually work harder than most other people. In any society involving money, it is impossible to have a rich financial class without having a poor financial class. The problem with private markets and insurance is that people who are on top take advantage of the people on bottom. It is time for us to step up as a whole and take care of our citizens.

I've been reading some of the comments left by the students on this blog. It's making me very annoyed. NO ONE, let me repeat, NO ONE, has presented facts. I know which side I'm on and I know I'm biased, but the difference between other students and me is that I watch more than what I enjoy. I watch Fox, MSNBC, and CNN, then I try to find the shred of truth that is in every broadcast. The people on this blog are either one or the other, black and white, red or blue, Glenn Beck or Keith Olberman. Whatever, here's the facts I've extracted from following this bill since Obama said he was going to take care of it in the campaign: This bill will not solve every problem in the US, It will help the people who have not been able to afford healthcare till now, people will notice no change in how much they pay for healthcare even if they think they are paying for "everyone". Also I'll be watching these blogs, you people better get some more facts next time.

I think Obama has really messed up this time. It was a mistake for him to sign the health care bill. What if people are poor and can't afford health insurance? The government shouldn't force us to bye or have certain things. It's a violation of our rights and it's a waste of money.

    March 30, 2010 at 1:45 pm |
  601. Nate

I think that we should not have to pay for other peoples health care for it is thier fault they can't afford it. they were probably goofing off in school and flunked.

  602. Emma

The artical that the bill costed over 800 billion dollers. He also said that it would affect every American. Honestly if you read between the lines the health bill won't make an affect on every American, the COST will. So I think that the bill was a mistake.

    March 30, 2010 at 4:33 pm |
  603. Jamie

I think it was a huge mistake. The U.S Government is already in a crisis financially now we are adding millions more to that amount. People should pay for their own healthcare and not depend on a failing government.

Obama keeps telling the people that change is coming that our world will be a better place, but when is he actually going to do it. When is he going to help us. The only thing he has done so far in my opinion is spend our money going on vacations and making bills that arent in the best interst for everyone. The president and the republicans and democrates need to put who there are and what they stand for behind and focus on everyone. That is one thing they are not doing and it is effecting alot of people. They need to look at what would be best for everyone not just themselves and there not doing that.

  608. Kayla

I believe that this health care bill was a very big mistake. Not every American needs health care. I believe that the bill should only take account for those who need it. The government is already going through a financial crisis and passing this bill will just make everything a lot worse because those who don't need it could take advantage of it.

    March 31, 2010 at 7:16 pm |
  609. Emma

I say the vote Obama made is a mistake....... I say this because we are just paying for other peoples Health Care........ NONE OF US LIKE DOING THAT.........

  610. Lola

Milestone- i argued over the situation that it was a mistake because of obvious reasons like that some people cannot afford the health care and that would mean that they get finned and if they cannot afford the health care then how would they pay the fine. But i shifted over to milestone because if you think about it the government will pay it for you through taxes, but then again our country is in debt and has a low economy. So the final statement that configures me to milestone would be that our country is in a situation where we need reform and this will help us in the long-run.

This is a milestone all the way. The rumors made up about Obama complain about the health care, and the time has come. Now the bill is law, like it or not, and if you were one of the ones complaining about health care lacking, now is your time to see that the problem is in process of deteriorating.

MILESTONE! I think this health care reform bill will not only make it eaiser with people who have health care cheaper to pay for it, but also
people who live on minimum wage can get this kind of insurance.

This was a big mistake. I mean it doesn't even make sense. If people are too poor to pay health care, then they get taxed? that is just... it doesn't make any sense. They should just impeach it.

I think President Obama should give Health Care to the people who need it! Instead of everyone! BIG MISTAKE!

I believe it's the next step and that we did need to take it. Presidents have been trying to pass bills like this for years, but within the details of this specific plan there are flaws that will have us taking one step back for every step forward.

This is just the start of the reform that our country needs to get out of the financial hole. We spend money now to make it later. I expect to see much more reform coming on all government programs.

I believe that President Obama should supply only the people that need Health Care with it. Not everyone needs it and if he's gives to everyone...how exactly is that gonna work out. Honestly I don't know.

TOTAL MISTAKE!!! I think President Obama should consider what the people of America want and need.

This is a major mistake, and should have never been done in the first place.

The normal Health Care bill was just fine as I took the poll beforw writing this cooment it was a 60 percent mistake. But is this fair Health Care bill going to effect you.How will it effect you. Inquiring Mind only know!!!!

This bill is a mistake it would have been better to do nothing at least we wouldn't be the United Socialist States of America

I believe this is a major milestone for our country. We are able to stop insurance companies from cutting your health care when your sick. Also this will help many struggling people, by lowering cost of insurance. This is America, I believe people should have the right to be treated, and continue to live there lives knowing they won't have to worry about going to the hospital and in debt.

i think that this is a really big mistake.. we are wasting money that we dont have.... it is goin to put us into a even bigger deficit... and further more congress should be listining to what WE THE PEOPLE HAVE TO SAY ABOUT THIS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! i know that we are a democracy and people vote for stuff like this, but they should listin to what we have to say too!!!!!! i also think that the government is starting to have a smidge bit more control than it needs to have over us.

This is definitely a milestone in history! people around the nation can no longer be denied health coverage.

its a mistake cuz it aint fair that the healthy people get to pay for the sick when there is nothing rong with the healthy the white house should let us vote befor they make desission because they dont know how we feel the people who say milestone is crazy becuase it just aint rite and they dont know what it means haha

I believe that this bill is a mistake. I wonder what happened to Power To The People? If the citizens of America voted, that bill probably wouldn't have been passed. I know many people that say that they very much dislike the bill. Obama doesn't think before he acts. Like when he cut the funding for NASA. He is trying to lower the percentage of people without jobs and when he cut the funding for NASA, he took away over 40,000 people's jobs away.

I think this is a mistake because this is unconstitutional and I think that every second that passes, the government is turning towards socialism.

  632. Annie

This is definitely a milestone. People think it's a mistake because they are only thinking about their own personal costs, not the well-being of the country.

Would it have been less of a mistake if Obama had done nothing at all?

We all need to realize that with any great change in the world comes some sacrifice. This is the change our country needs.

I think the new healthcare bill is a lot like a new haircut. Your hairs all messy and all over the place and you kind of want to get a haircut but you don’t want to really bother changing it because think it’s to much of a hassle to change it. And now that you cut you think it looks really bad, so you kind of just sit and wait and hope it grows into a look you like.

I think its a mistake because it isn't giving power to the people and thats what it supposed to be about, right? Everyone i know, including my parents, think its a bad idea and wish it never happened. Anyways, Obama doesn't know anymore about health care than an average american because he smokes and a smoker isn't looking out for his own life, so how could he do that for ours?!

I understand where President Obama is coming from and what he is trying to do. But so many people are going to take advantage of this bill. Some people will use the money for illegal things like drugs. I also don't like the fact that we would have to pay them. My mom, who is a nurse and makes a pretty decent amount of money, won't have as much because she will have to use her paycheck to give these people money to live on.

I think it is kinda both. Yes it is a milestone becuase it is big of a bill but at the sametime a mistake becuase it can effect many people also.

  637. Helen

All this health care reform is doing is putting us in more debt and putting an even bigger strain with people who don't have much money already, since WE'RE the ones who have to pay for it.

    April 21, 2010 at 10:24 pm |
  638. Kate

I support both sides. For people who can't afford health insurance now, this is a great opportunity. But why should the people who can afford it, pay for other peoples heath insurance?

HUGEST MISTAKE I THINK THE GOVERNMENT COULD EVER MAKE!!!

i think it is a huge mistake! because it will affect everyone in a not so good way, and because some people don't want it and their are a lot who dont.

I think the kids and the parents should choose what the kids eat. I think that the kids should some say in what they eat. I don’t think its that big of deal of what kids eat right now. It might think different about it if I have my own kids one day. That’s what I think about this whole thing.

A huge mistake! Obama has not done nothing for this country. No one has they think they have but nobody has. I think we need to get new government start completely different. The government has lost sight of their real purpose of their job. They think they are cool just cause they control this country. Yes i understand we put those kind of people there. Obama is spending so much money its unbelievable. Obama is spending money THAT WE DONT HAVE.

I think it is a mistake because if some one won't get up off the couch and get a job. Then other people that is working, will have to pay for thier health care and that is not fair to the people that are working.

    May 18, 2010 at 9:41 am |
  644. Austin

I think it's a milestone in the fact that a bill that was so unpopular could pass when not that much people wanted it also I think that the government isn't listening to what the real government is ran by: THE PEOPLE!!! By not listening to the people they WILL NOT get relected again.
