An Eye for an Eye?

Posted: 06:35 PM ET

Friday's show brings you the graphic story of Ameneh Bahrami, an Iranian woman whose attacker blinded and disfigured her with acid.  She is now demanding an eye for an eye, and so is an Iranian court:  The attacker's sentence is that he also be blinded with acid.

Ameneh might've had the option to take what's called "blood money," when the attacker is forced to pay the victim an amount of money for the assault.  But she wants the attacker to receive a harsher punishment than a fine.  Ameneh hopes that such a sentence will discourage anyone else from ever attacking with acid.

We realize this is a very difficult story to watch, but we'd like to know what you think about the outcome.  Is blinding Ameneh's attacker the right punishment?  Is there another sentence that would fit the crime?  Or do you think that Ameneh should've tried to get the "blood money" instead?

I don't think that the punishment for Ameneh's attacker is right. He might have blinded her with acid but its not right to do the same back. So i think he should not be blinded but punished by other means of harsh disapline

Jared-Dillon   February 19th, 2009 6:53 pm ET

No he should not be blinded, punish him other ways though

Tman   February 19th, 2009 7:06 pm ET

I feel that there should be an different sentence and that she should go after “blood money.” To blind someone else is very unhuman and that he should pay a stong but fair punishment.

COREY   February 19th, 2009 7:20 pm ET

The attacker should pay the fine, and also get punished, because now the woman has lost her sight. The attacker shoul loose his sight also. With would prove the saying, "An eye for an eye". Hopefully the attacker feels horrible!

Ryan   February 19th, 2009 7:27 pm ET

Well, some people get the death sentence for killing someone, so this guy should be punished just like what he did to her.... What that man did to that woman was very wrong, and I do think he should pay a heavy price for what he has done to her.

Miss Priss   February 19th, 2009 7:30 pm ET

i THINK THEY SHOULD HOLD THAT HARSH PUNISHMENT SO THAT LATER ON NO ONE WILL EVER WANT TO DO THAT EVER AGAIN

Ruby   February 19th, 2009 7:31 pm ET

An eye for an eye!!! That is so cruel! But still, if I was Ameneh, I'll probably wanted to do the same thing as her although that is so cruel!!!

Chikis   February 19th, 2009 7:31 pm ET

I think that should be allowed so that , that doesn't occur in the future

shela   February 19th, 2009 7:51 pm ET

Just because you have acid in your eye and a bad accident happend doesnt mean that you have to make someone elses life miserable. i mean i understand that you hurt but yeah....

Emily   February 19th, 2009 8:07 pm ET

I don't think it's right to blind him with acid because he might have needed the money and had no other way to get it. I think the person who paid him for doing it should be punished. But the guy should still get a fine.

Louis   February 19th, 2009 8:11 pm ET

Well... Blood money would be better if she is poor. 'Recieve a RIGHT punishment', there's no clear definition about that because we don't know whether the criminal would do the same thing to the other person.

Brittany   February 19th, 2009 8:16 pm ET

I think that he should be blink with acid because that is just crule for that woman to go blind like that now.

Shane   February 19th, 2009 9:02 pm ET

This is not a resonable sentance. The court should just give him the fine or "Blood Money"

Savy   February 19th, 2009 9:05 pm ET

I think that she should get an eye for an eye, they used to do that in the medieval era, so why not now?

michael   February 19th, 2009 9:08 pm ET

i belive that she should get the satisfaction of an eye for an eye. the attacker should feel what he did back on him so he knows what he did is wrong and the troubels that she is facing because of the acid.

brandon   February 19th, 2009 9:10 pm ET

i hope it happens

stephen   February 19th, 2009 9:25 pm ET

I think jail is the right thing but then again... I wasn't blinded

Jessie   February 19th, 2009 9:35 pm ET

I don't think that the attacker should get an eye to eye punishment. But he should just get another punishment that is twice as bad because of what he did, no one should be put through that torture. It like some that would happen in the holocaust.

Andrew   February 19th, 2009 9:35 pm ET

I think he should pay the money. It's bad enough that one person is blinded.

Tommy   February 19th, 2009 9:43 pm ET

When someone does somthing mean to you, naturally you want to do the same back, or maybe even worse. But in a case such as this, yes he did her wrong but her doing the same makes her just as bad. This is a cruel way for pay back and should not be chosen as a punishment for revenge. Just pay up for what she has to pay for repairs.

Jourdan   February 19th, 2009 9:48 pm ET

I feel there is a better way to serve justice. Whats the point of making him blind you already have the woman blinded what good would having another blind person in the world do.

Rachel   February 19th, 2009 9:50 pm ET

It can never be a benefit to the goals of society to punish a hideous crime by the same hideous means that cause the crime.

nick   February 19th, 2009 10:18 pm ET

If you are punishing somebody for doing something wrong, then why would you do the same back? Take a fair trial and choose an appropriate punishment.

Rachel   February 19th, 2009 10:24 pm ET

OMG! I think he should totally get th eye for eye. My motto is, "you get what is coming to you." or "payback is a virtue!"

jacob   February 19th, 2009 10:39 pm ET

I think that it would be o kay as long as it wasn't any thing that serious or private, wouldn't you think that? Other than that I would be fine with the idea.

scott   February 19th, 2009 10:49 pm ET

i think blinding the attacker is the right move. if he did that to this poor woman, he should have to find out what it feels like for himself.

Richie   February 19th, 2009 11:42 pm ET

I think Ameneh is cruel even though what the man did to her was so bad. I suggest another easier punishment. It's that the man has to give his eye to her as a trade-off. He took one from her, she gets one from him. It's fair.

Rachella   February 19th, 2009 11:46 pm ET

An eye for an eye is very harsh and cruel, but I think that paying a fine won't be good enough. Maybe creative people should make some ideas for a punishment that is harsher than a fine, and less cruel than a blinded eye

joe   February 19th, 2009 11:46 pm ET

I think he should give hes eye(cornea) to her because he make her blind.

Ashley   February 20th, 2009 12:31 am ET

I believe the man who did that to her needs to be punished the same way. It's not right for people to just destroy someones life and not get anything bad done to them like that.

Beth   February 20th, 2009 12:47 am ET

I don't think it is right to blind someone as a punishment. Instead she should forgive her attacker for what he did and love him.

Ela   February 20th, 2009 12:51 am ET

Instead of blinding him why don't they embarass him. Maybe make him dance on International TV with only his underwear on!!!!!

Elisabeth   February 20th, 2009 12:53 am ET

Hey Carl!!!!

What do you think?????

We never hear your opinion!!!!!

elisabeth   February 20th, 2009 12:57 am ET

how is that fair????? If that was a law then if someone broke your arm you would break their arm!!!! I am sorry but that doesn't make sense and it is cruel.

Santino.   February 20th, 2009 1:13 am ET

i believe that she should do both if that is possible because shes blinded for life and that guy deserves the punishment, and she does deserve the money. thats my opinion on the situation.

Halstyn   February 20th, 2009 2:01 am ET

To me, it doesn't make sense to give him the same punishment in order to show others what he did is wrong. There is a quote about the death penalty that goes: "Why do people kill people, who kill people, to show that killing is wrong?" I don't believe that revenge is ever the answer.

Michelle   February 20th, 2009 2:07 am ET

An eye for an Eye?
Wow, I feel like I went back to some long long centuries ago!
But, if I were Ameneh, I think I'll hope so, too.

Ly   February 20th, 2009 2:18 am ET

If you were the victim in the story, what would you demand in your deepest heart? To me, her action of requesting to have the man blinded by acid is understandable and should be understood with consideration. Didn't she also say that was for the preventing of further similar crimes?

But I oppose the court's decision of this harsh punishment. What court would make such a sentence like that? There are tons of better ways to serve justice.

JaQuan   February 20th, 2009 2:19 am ET

America's legal system gives murderers the death sentence and no one says anything. However, this innocent woman gets blinded and disfigured for speaking her mind and everyone says how her intentions of blinding him as well is wrong. I think he should also be blinded just to show everyone how wrong of a crime this is.

Jamie   February 20th, 2009 2:19 am ET

I don't know if blinding the attacker is a good thing, but if it would teach future attackers and the tried attacker a leason on acid, then there's really nothing anyone can do.

Katie   February 20th, 2009 2:23 am ET

What has happened is horrible, a man blinding a woman with acid just because she didn't want to marry him. I believe that he got what was coming to him. If someone kills another person they are usually put to death. So Why is these any different then that. Eyes for eyes.

Nicole   February 20th, 2009 2:39 am ET

A mistake is a mistake. He shouldn't be blinded with acid because people learn from their mistakes. I'm sure their are other punishments for the attacker.

Cathy   February 20th, 2009 2:46 am ET

To blind someone with acid is horrible so I don't think that doing the same to the attacker is a good idea. It's just encourage the violence. However, this guy must have a very strong punishment. Maybe he should give a big amont of money to start with. That could help her to get special care such as plastic surgery for her face and special equipment and training to make her a bit more confident with her blindness.
He also need to understand the pain he gave to her and get a life prison sentence or that kind of thing.
Hope my English is correct as I'm French. Love your podcast.
Cathy.

Juny   February 20th, 2009 2:49 am ET

I think it's a little bit harsh to apply 'eye for an eye' to the attacker. It's not like she's living in ancient Babylonia where Hammurabi's law was enacted. I don't think the man should be blinded with acid just like the woman. She should give mercy to the attacker and since I am a pious believer of Christianity, the man will be punshed after his temporal life.

S.K.   February 20th, 2009 4:22 am ET

I think an eye for an eye punishment for a crime brings about new hatred, which in turn leads to another criminal act. In that case, we have to say human beings have made little progress since the age of Hammurabi.

Eva   February 20th, 2009 5:22 am ET

I think it is normal for you to wish to take revenge but I don't think that even someone who hurt someone shoudn't be phsicaly punished.

DJp   February 20th, 2009 7:28 am ET

I feel sory for that woman, but I think an 'eye for an eye' is not a good idea. Same thing happening again? Phew~

Mr. Owen's Class   February 20th, 2009 7:34 am ET

It is difficult to judge someone's actions based upon their value system. There are some people who can only see things through their own eyes (no pun intended, Carl), and they would not see like punishment as fair. And so it goes!

Nestor   February 20th, 2009 7:36 am ET

We agree he must be punished, but any revenge give her face back.

Sarah   February 20th, 2009 7:43 am ET

I agree that he shouldn't just pay a fine, but burning his eyes would make her just as bad a person as he is. It's torture, not a humane punishment. To me there could be a better sentence, like a certain amount of years in prison. In this case I would say violence is definitely not the answer.

Catherine   February 20th, 2009 7:50 am ET

I can understand that she doesn't just want him to pay a fine as a punishment, but wanting him to be blinded makes you just as heinous as he is.To put it simply, it is torture. Several years in prison would probably the proper, and most humane, punishment for him.

Corben   February 20th, 2009 8:05 am ET

I think she should have taken the "Blood Money".It could have helped her in the long run with all of those hospital bills.I think it is ridicouls that she would want to throw acid in the attackers face. Its just unhuman and barbaric.

Richard   February 20th, 2009 8:40 am ET

i think the attacker should be blinded with acid because that was just to much and he should get a punishment for what he did

Laura   February 20th, 2009 8:50 am ET

I think that it is now harm than good. I am not well versed in the Iranian laws so I do not know what the punishment. I don’t know what it the right punishment for that attack. I think that it would not be fair to the woman to lose her eye sight. The man that did this should be punished. But she should also get the money for her injury.

Katrina   February 20th, 2009 8:52 am ET

I have no idea on how you can blind someone with acid, but i sure wouldn't.I find it somewhat painful and sycotic.

Jamie   February 20th, 2009 9:17 am ET

I think its right for him to get punished I mean if someone through liquid acid at you wouldn't you want them to be punished as well. He should get the death penalty for assaulting her like that

Anthony   February 20th, 2009 9:17 am ET

this guy deserves to be blinded. He needs to feel the pain and suffering he inflicted on this innocent woman. If all he has to do is pay money, why would that stop him from doin in again.

Jesse   February 20th, 2009 9:18 am ET

i think anyone that could ever do this should be dipped in acidd.

Kayla   February 20th, 2009 9:19 am ET

When seeing this video, it makes me sick. How could someone be that horrible to someone. Normally when someone does something bad to you, you want to do something back to them, and in this case I believe he deserves it. It wont cause justice over the situtation, but he cause pain for her and I believe he deserves pain right back, in anyway. He is a very sick person for doing this.

Michael   February 20th, 2009 9:19 am ET

Well this is a hard decision to make. On one hand, this punishment could halt any crimes in the same manner from ever happening again. Fear is a powerful force and acid is a powerful weapon. The other side is that punishing those with the same means will dehumanize those of us doing the punishment. However, The society and ideas are different over there and if the decision is to burn the other man’s eyes out, so be it.

David   February 20th, 2009 9:19 am ET

I don't see a problem with that at all. As long as we know that he is guilty then he deserves it. I dont think that jail time would add up to being blind for the rest of one's life. MAKE HIM BLIND!!

Anonymous   February 20th, 2009 9:20 am ET

I do not think he should be burned with acid. The reason she wants this to be done to him is so no one ever be attacked with acid again because the attackers will "think twice" about it.. If her mission is no one being attacked with acid, getting her attacker burned with acid isn't really achieving her goal but going against it.
I think she should get him a different punishment than just the money, but the punishment she wants for him isn't right. She should find another way that will really make an impact and will stop this from happening again without making it happen to the same person.
You know what they say; an eye for an eye leaves the whole world blind.

Joshua   February 20th, 2009 9:23 am ET

There is a better way to serve justice. But what our country thinks is right and another country thinks is right are to totally different things. For many country’s there a ways of serve justice that we in our country would never even think of doing. And who are we to say about what she wants to do.

Erin   February 20th, 2009 9:26 am ET

By blinding someone else Ameneh becomes no different than her attacker. If she admits that acid attacks are horrible and inhumane, then doing it herself would make her a hypocrite. No matter what we think, though, our opinions will not change the court’s ruling.

Jillian   February 20th, 2009 9:28 am ET

I think that putting acid on this man is a fair punishment. However, vengence does seem like a cruel reason to do this. Ameneh has the right to be angry, but I think death or jail could serve as a less intense punishment. Everyone knows that if you hit someone back, the fight will just get worse. But if I had been blinded, I might be thinking differently.

Ms. V's class   February 20th, 2009 9:30 am ET

He should be punished another way. Blinding him would be revenge. If she wants to keep him from doing this to someone else, there are better ways, like lock him up for a long time. If it's wrong for him to do that to someone, how can it be right for them to do it to him?

michael   February 20th, 2009 9:32 am ET

that is not right by doing that your only as bad as your enemy

Jake   February 20th, 2009 9:35 am ET

Obviously, this man is insane. Blinding his eyes will not bring back Ameneh’s sight. Doing this would be as criminal as what the attacker did to her. I think other means off punishment should be taken place.

isaac   February 20th, 2009 9:39 am ET

Its his fol that so he should get the punishmen for it

Danni   February 20th, 2009 9:43 am ET

i dont think that what her attacker did was right, but he should be punished but not in the same way, that is just wrong. We would be sinking dwon to his level.

Ben   February 20th, 2009 9:56 am ET

there is no way she didn't request that punishment as revenge. blinding someone as a punishment i a horrible punishment. It could be considered torture. and as the old saying goes two wrongs dont make a right

Ashlei   February 20th, 2009 9:58 am ET

There is never enough money to compensate for what happened to Ameneh however I do not agree with the method of punishment that she is requesting. The saying goes "two wrongs don't make a right" and blind justice isn't cool.

Nik   February 20th, 2009 9:59 am ET

I think it is a good punishment because if you do something bad to some one you deserve to have that done back onto you

Julie   February 20th, 2009 10:00 am ET

I believe that our American point of view hinders us from understanding the punishment given by Iranian government; in that culture, an "eye for an eye" system is historically their method of dealing with crimes. Personally, I believe that the attacker has it worse off–he KNOWS the acid is coming and ample time to dread it, whereas Ameneh had it sprung upon her suddenly with no premeditative worrying.

Sabrena   February 20th, 2009 10:05 am ET

I wouldn't say blinding him with acid is the answer, but i also agree with her. He does deserves a harsher punishment than a fine. I don't have any implications for what his sentence should be, but I don't think I'd just pour acid over his face and say Justice is served. I still think there is a better punishment for him.

William   February 20th, 2009 10:08 am ET

There is obviously something wrong with the man because if he "loved" her he would have never poured even though she rejected him a couple of times. If that happened to me, I would probably not pour acid back, but would give a less hash punishment.

Liah   February 20th, 2009 10:11 am ET

I think the woman should be more generous. She shouldn't ask for such a punishment when she knows the pain of it!

Mr. K's 9th Grade Civic's Class   February 20th, 2009 10:17 am ET

Do two rights make a wrong here? It is hard to put yourself in her situation but does the punishment here really fit the cirme?

Ross   February 20th, 2009 10:25 am ET

I think that the idea of the woman, who was accused is right for wanting the attacker to be blinded the same way as she. If she wants her attacker to get the same treatment I think that is a great idea. If some of the people who committed crimes, got the same crime committed to them from their own perspective, they would think more about it. Also, the effects on the attacker and the innocent would be the same, and may be better to think about and deal with for the innocent people involved, or attacked.

Trent   February 20th, 2009 10:27 am ET

The attacker should see what it feels like to lose an eye with acid for what the attacker did.

Kay-Lee   February 20th, 2009 10:28 am ET

Heyyy Carl,
I think that any guy who should even think of doing something like that to make them marry them is just crazy!! Also that guy should definitley have to get the punishment, because he should have to feel the pain she felt and i would never marry someone who stocks or threatns me!!!!!!
-Kay-Lee

Shannon   February 20th, 2009 10:29 am ET

I think it is pretty stupid for a guy to do that to a girl just because she wouldn't mary him!! I'm glad she is making him feel the pain that she went through!!!
-Shannon

Michael   February 20th, 2009 10:29 am ET

how is this going to stop people from doing this they are just going to be more careful

shelby   February 20th, 2009 10:33 am ET

i think that guy needs to get acid in his eyes or lest really long jail time. He needs to get a life there's other women out there.

Nathan   February 20th, 2009 10:34 am ET

I think he should get the same punishment as his victim got. He should have thought twice before throwing acid on someone.

Corrie   February 20th, 2009 10:35 am ET

I think that blinding that man is completely unnecessary. There is a better way to handle this crime-it's called jail.

Caitlin   February 20th, 2009 10:35 am ET

I think it's totally fair. He needs to know what kind of pain he put that woman through.

Kelsey   February 20th, 2009 10:35 am ET

I don't think its right to pour the acid in his eyes. I know he did something wrong but fightng fire with fire, or in this case acid wth acid doesn't make it right either way.

Ureshii   February 20th, 2009 10:36 am ET

Well Carl I don't think two wrongs make a right...three rights make a left however...but anyways I think that the punishment should be as harsh as the crime but blinding him won't work. They should lock him in the most filthy jail cell they can find and starve him.

Alex   February 20th, 2009 10:36 am ET

I think that he deserves that punishment....but it really isn't appropiate as a government to do that to him. Sure, what he did was wrong, but they should follow somethinig that is a little more humane.

Bob   February 20th, 2009 10:36 am ET

NO! Just because the man did something bad, doesnt make it right to do the same to him

Trinh   February 20th, 2009 10:36 am ET

One for all, and all for one

Cassidy   February 20th, 2009 10:37 am ET

What goes around comes around.

joe   February 20th, 2009 10:37 am ET

if it's so bad that he did it, why should we do it to him?

Christopher   February 20th, 2009 10:37 am ET

He deserves the punishment for what he did.
Blind him!

Mary   February 20th, 2009 10:37 am ET

I think they should put acid right back in his face. It was very rude to do that. Do on to others as you would have them do onto you.

Bob   February 20th, 2009 10:37 am ET

Just because someone made your life miserable, doesnt mean you shouldd do the same to them

Bob   February 20th, 2009 10:38 am ET

If i was the woman, i guess i would want it to hold, but it's so cruel

Marley   February 20th, 2009 10:38 am ET

I think that he should be blinded so that others will not atempt the same crime that he did. Besides he pretty much stalked her and tried to make her marry him. Creaper!!..... I dont think jail would be right for this crime.

jo jo   February 20th, 2009 10:39 am ET

throw acid on him

Cassidy   February 20th, 2009 10:39 am ET

Although, what goes around comes around, you catch more flies with honey than with vinegar.

Bob   February 20th, 2009 10:39 am ET

Yes, blind him. if people think they can get away with it, they will do it again

Shaq L.   February 20th, 2009 10:40 am ET

I think he should totally be jailed yo. I mean he blinded her so he should pay!

Robert   February 20th, 2009 10:41 am ET

I believe that the attacker having acid put in his eyes would be the right thing to do. Having to pay “blood money” is not enough of a punishment. He would never know the true pain that he caused that women unless the same was done to him.

Greena   February 20th, 2009 10:41 am ET

That guy was a major stalker! Make him pay!!

rose   February 20th, 2009 10:41 am ET

he deserves a punish ment that fits the crime and in this case he has permidintaly mared someone and that is unfixable. he deserves the same.

Tyler   February 20th, 2009 10:43 am ET

I think for what he did, he should receive at least equal punishment. It would be wrong for him just to get off of the hook easy. If the woman wants him to feel the pain she felt, then that's how it should be.

Jessica   February 20th, 2009 10:44 am ET

I think she does have the right to ask for him to be blinded. He chose to do that to her- he should be made to experience what he did to her. Also, guys like that don't stop. I know that from experience. He would start stalking someone else, and probably eventually hurt them or even kill them. Why should he get off easy when she will have to live the rest of her life blind and deformed? He should have thought about the consequences before he did it.

Bryce   February 20th, 2009 10:45 am ET

OK, this is what they should do. 1: take all of his money and give it to the woman. 2: Throw acid in his eyes. 3: kill him

Griffin   February 20th, 2009 10:46 am ET

I don't think that the attacker should have his eyes blinded but should go to prison and serve a long sentence for what he did to Ameneh. It just doesn't seem like the moral thing to do especially here in the US where we have other means of justice. An eye for an eye is just not logical to me in this situation.

Sarah   February 20th, 2009 10:52 am ET

Just because someone wronged you does NOT mean that you have to wrong them right back. Violence is not the only way to solve a problem. You don't always have to fight someone because they said something about your mom, or said something about you, or made you offended. That's the problem with most wars, we always try to fight before we figure out both sides of the story.

Nick   February 20th, 2009 10:54 am ET

If a person got in trouble for pouring acid on somebody then whey would you do it back?

Nick   February 20th, 2009 11:00 am ET

I think that it's ridiculous that human rights activists are condemning this woman for trying to punish her attacker, while failing to condemn these Islamic hate crimes.

Lindsey   February 20th, 2009 11:00 am ET

"You have heard that it was said, 'Eye for eye, and tooth for tooth'. But I tell you, Do not resist an evil person. If someone strikes you on the right cheek, turn to him the other also. And if someone wants to sue you and take your tunic, let him have your cloak as well. If someone forces you to go one mile, go with him two miles. Give to the one who asks you, and do not turn away from the one who wants to borrow from you."
-Matthew 5:38-42

cole   February 20th, 2009 11:03 am ET

No i think he should go to jail and be punished there instead. Because the other is not very rational.

Ryan   February 20th, 2009 11:04 am ET

I think he should get the same punishment, if he's going to do it to her, why not do it to him.

felicia   February 20th, 2009 11:04 am ET

I strongly can imagine how sober the attacker will be feeling now cos its his turn to pay the price. But can u imagine him before and during the act? u know what? Are those options enough punishments. lets put ourselves in her shoes, maybe we will understand better.

Abdul   February 20th, 2009 11:11 am ET

An eye for an eye! As it implies please. Is there any waste of time?

Andy   February 20th, 2009 11:15 am ET

Justice is a tool used to punish wrongdoers in order to have them, as well as others, think twice before committing crimes. It is a tool used to keep order. If people are not influenced by this system enough to where they will not commit a crime, then some tweaking is clearly in order. This eye for an eye punishment will influence both him and others to become wary of performing violent actions, which results in saved lives. Justice is cast in this scenario because the punishment is equivalent to the crime and it performs its purpose in keeping order in the nation.

“Do unto others what has been done unto you.”

Elizabeth   February 20th, 2009 11:16 am ET

I think he deserves it because he scared her for her hole intier life. so I think it is a good idea.

Elaine   February 20th, 2009 11:17 am ET

i think she should have taken the money.

felicia   February 20th, 2009 11:22 am ET

I strongly can imagine how sober the attacker will be feeling now because its his turn. But can you imagine him before and during the act? You need to put yourself in her shoes maybe you will understand. It sounds difficult facing it but he should be responsible for his actions. Either punishment is totally fair.

Stacey' class   February 20th, 2009 11:22 am ET

We think he should receive the same type of punishment that he inflicted on Ameneh. He needs to know how it feels by having acid thrown in his eyes.

Makenzie & classmates   February 20th, 2009 11:22 am ET

We believe that the punishment was fair, an eye for an eye. One member of our class felt that he should get his thumbs cut off in addition to the loss of his eyes.
Another member says he should also serve the rest of his blind life in prison.

Joey   February 20th, 2009 11:29 am ET

I think that this man should have both of his eyes in acid because he did that to her and now she can never have that changed back.

Sadiq   February 20th, 2009 11:33 am ET

Pls try walking or working with your eyes closed for a minute. An eye for an eye. I wish this judgement will be applicable to everywhere in the world to put a stop to this barbaric act.

Hayley.   February 20th, 2009 11:38 am ET

I do agree with the eye to eye punishment because if I were her I would want justice. He should feel her pain and suffering. If it happened again than he should first be blinded and then be put in jail. He should pay for what he has done.

Lindsay   February 20th, 2009 11:38 am ET

I don't agree with the eye for an eye punishment. It is really a disgusting thing that the guy did to her, but two wrongs don't make a right.

Jennifer   February 20th, 2009 11:39 am ET

I think that the eye for an eye punishment is fair. If it was me I would think they should share the same fate I would have to persue for the rest of my life.

jenna   February 20th, 2009 11:40 am ET

How tarrible no body diserbe that and as they say an eye for in eye macks the whole world blind and in this case very litterly

Teacher Nicci's Class, East Mesa Juvenile Detention Facility   February 20th, 2009 11:46 am ET

One student feels that he should not get the blinding punishment because as Gahndi said "an eye for an eye just leaves the whole world blind." Another student said that he should be blinded. She has to be blind for the rest of his life and so should he. He should have to feel what it is like. Yet another student said that this is kind of like Karma for that guy. He blnded her and know he is going to be blinded, he is getting what he deserves. So in conclusion most of the class agrees that the guy is deserving of his punishment and his sentence is justified.

Jessica   February 20th, 2009 11:48 am ET

This man is horrible! He is a monster! I do beleive that he should have the same punishment or death. He blinded this poor woman for the rest of he LIFE! Whatever punishment he gets, he definitly deserves it.

Hayley   February 20th, 2009 11:50 am ET

I think he should be punished with either the eye-for-an-eye or a long sentence in jail. He has now RUINED this poor woman's life so why does he get to just walk away from this with just a warning or fine?

Bryce   February 20th, 2009 11:50 am ET

This is why the world is full of crime: you people that think murderers and assaulters still have rights. THEY DON'T.
YOU SHOULDN'T HAVE ANY RIGHTS IF YOU KILL SOMEONE OR DO SOMETHING LIKE THIS.

Brett   February 20th, 2009 11:51 am ET

well if i had acid in my eye, i would be pretty mad. so yeah, i would want them to have the same thing happen to them. Hammurabis code keep it alive!

dakota   February 20th, 2009 11:51 am ET

I don't agree with the eye for an eye punishment. I think should of use a more humane way of punishment. Like jail, money, or any others. Not a eye for an eye punishment. Thats why I dont agree with this punishment. LIKE THE PUNNS!!!!!

Wyatt   February 20th, 2009 11:51 am ET

I do agree with the eye-for-an-eye punishment. It would stop the person from doing that (and other crimes) again. If you hurt someone seriously, and they did the same to you, they probably wouldn't do that again.

Alyssa   February 20th, 2009 11:54 am ET

The man should get in trouble for what he did, but definitely not "an eye for an eye". The woman should have gotten the blood money and left it at that.

John   February 20th, 2009 11:54 am ET

Yessssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssss

Jane   February 20th, 2009 11:55 am ET

I think that the attacker should suck it up and take the acid in the face. Do unto others as you woud have them do unto you.

Preston   February 20th, 2009 11:56 am ET

I do not completely agree with the eye-for-an-eye way to punish someone.I tink that he should have one eye burned out and then sent to jail for ten years

David   February 20th, 2009 11:56 am ET

No, I do not agree with "an eye for an eye". The crime was severe, but the punishment should be done with prison time.

Carolyn   February 20th, 2009 11:56 am ET

No, I don't agree with the eye for an eye punishment. I thiink you shouldn't solve violence with voilence. I think the man should go to jail for life to prevent this from happening again. That man had no right to do what he did.

Sarah   February 20th, 2009 11:56 am ET

I believe that he should be blinded. The woman is right, "an eye for an eye" will hopefully scare future criminals from doing the same act. It's the same concept of the death penalty that we have here in the United States so I agree with her.

steve   February 20th, 2009 12:03 pm ET

i don't care.

Deanna   February 20th, 2009 12:05 pm ET

i think the guy SHOULD get acid in his face! she said no and he has to deal with that!! he got rejected so he needs to get over. he needs to cry a river build a bridge and get over it!!!!

Sydney!!!!   February 20th, 2009 12:05 pm ET

I feel soooo bad for the lady who got acid in her face that is sooooo bad..... The guy who did that to her should get it worse..... It was her choice to cheat but the guy didn't have to do that to her.........

charles   February 20th, 2009 12:06 pm ET

I think the guy should get his punishment i mean if he did that in america he'd be dead but things are diffrent over there so hes gonna have to take it like man they should find him and do it he should have just accepted what she said

Courtney   February 20th, 2009 12:06 pm ET

I totally agree that they should throw acid right back at him, if somebody doesn't like somebody enough to date or marry, then they obviously have to know that NO means NO! If they did that over here, they would most likely just give them life in prison, but I think that thats good that she got to pick the punishment for the guy that did that because, what goes around comes around.

Denzel   February 20th, 2009 12:09 pm ET

I think that they should not pure acid in his eyes because men that cruel, thats just commiting the same crime plain old wrong

Leach   February 20th, 2009 12:09 pm ET

I think that her family should get to do the same thing to him. Even though two wrongs don't make a right, I think it is still fair!

nadine   February 20th, 2009 12:11 pm ET

I think he should go blind because he made the lady go blind

J.T   February 20th, 2009 12:11 pm ET

No, because even though she was blinded by acid, he shouldn't recieve the same action as she did, instead they should punish him in a different way, such as throw him in jail for a long time.

Lseantra   February 20th, 2009 12:11 pm ET

I belive that An Eye for an Eye is the smallest price to pay for causing Ameneh's disfiguration and blindness. But I also believe that she should have taken the "blood money" instead, because by takeing the punishment of An Eye fo an Eye, she is basically paying the money that she would have recieved so that he can be punished.

Dani   February 20th, 2009 12:11 pm ET

I think he should pay the money. He should save himself some pair of eyes. At least he will see. He should also have community service for 80 hours.

Thierry   February 20th, 2009 12:11 pm ET

If I were her I would definetley want revenge, but two wrongs do not make a rright. The government should make a different decision.

Chuka   February 20th, 2009 12:12 pm ET

I think this is such a good topic. I think the family should get to decide what happens, not us!

Brandon   February 20th, 2009 12:12 pm ET

I think it is a great rule because it will scare other people who commit crime and slow it down.

Sheikh   February 20th, 2009 12:12 pm ET

The attacker was wrong for doing what he did. He shouldn't have been stalking her or scaring her. He deserves the punishment for what he did. He is wrong for what he did.

Mary   February 20th, 2009 12:12 pm ET

I think the guy deserves to be sprayed wih acid. He sprayed her with acid so if he doesn't care how it would hurt her then he shouldn't have to be worried about getting sprayed anyways!

Egede   February 20th, 2009 12:13 pm ET

an eye for an eye is the correct thing to do. Two wrongs may not make a right, but some things... you just have to give payback.

Adrien   February 20th, 2009 12:13 pm ET

It won't help at all. Your just getting another person blind, I think they should give him the fine.

Jade   February 20th, 2009 12:13 pm ET

yes he should Definitely be blinded.

Mark   February 20th, 2009 12:15 pm ET

I don’t think stooping to the attacker's level would set a very good example to future victims. People used similar forms of punishment hundreds of years ago and, despite all of the progress we've made, it's a sad thought to think were willing to make the same mistakes again.

Bethanny   February 20th, 2009 12:17 pm ET

I think she's being unique in the way she's dealing with it. Some people would demand that their attacker be killed. She's not saying she wants that .... She wants to make a point. I don't see the harm in him experiencing the same pain she experienced. It's only fair.

Ben   February 20th, 2009 12:18 pm ET

The man deserves to have acid thrown into his eyes. This woman's life is ruined because of what he did and why should he get a "lesser" punishment and then return to his everyday life when hers will never be the same?

Giovanni   February 20th, 2009 12:22 pm ET

they should blind the guy because its not fair that it happens to an innocent lady and the guy gets no punishment

Sage   February 20th, 2009 12:24 pm ET

I think however much he threw in her face, they should throw twice the amount of acid in his face. If that happened to me I would be so sad, because I am an awesome artist and I need my eyes for drawing.

Thomas   February 20th, 2009 12:29 pm ET

I think he shouldn't get acid thrown in his face

Jason   February 20th, 2009 12:33 pm ET

I think this punishment is really fair. This guy scarred her for life, there's is no rewinding and taking it away so i believe that he should be scarred for life too.

Jordan   February 20th, 2009 12:35 pm ET

I think that she has all rights to give him what he deserves. Her motives prevent him from ever doing it again are just, and it is totally fair.

Emmalou   February 20th, 2009 12:35 pm ET

I think he deserves it.

Abigail   February 20th, 2009 12:35 pm ET

I feel really bad for what happen to the lady but I really don’t think that it would be right to return the harm. Her eyes must have been nice but just because you lost what was the best of you doesn’t mean that you should ruin somebody else’s. He will get what he deserves when the time is right.

Allen   February 20th, 2009 12:35 pm ET

Well while Ameneh has good motivation for what she wants done to her attacker, the whole eye for an eye thing is a bit too much. if everyone thought that way, that the punishment should be the exact same as the offense, it would never end. itd be one continuous line of payback.

Alyssa   February 20th, 2009 12:35 pm ET

I think "an eye for an eye" is kind of harsh. I feel that there are other ways to get back at him. An eye for an eye is just cruel. He should not have done it in the first place but blinding him wont benefit anything.

Anonymous   February 20th, 2009 12:35 pm ET

I think that the man who did the crime should get what he deserves because not only did he hurt the women, he hurt people who are now afraid of a similar attack. I think it is a messed up thing, and the man should get the worst of punishments.

Hector   February 20th, 2009 12:35 pm ET

i think its a good idea to have an eye for an eye because she was attacked just because she didn't like him and that man shouldn't have privilages that he took away from some one else.

JOSH   February 20th, 2009 12:36 pm ET

I think that it they should stick with the punishment of throwing acid in her eyes because then people would stop to think about if they ever wanted to do this type of harassing, then they would think about the consequences for their crime.

Devin   February 20th, 2009 12:36 pm ET

i believe an eye for an eye would fit this crime as the punishment.
Usually you dont want to search for revenge because its a bad motive to have, however killing the man would not make him learn his lesson. and the blood money would not either. he should be punished by acid to each eye because he will have to suffer the same pain, and i garauntee that he would not do it again if he was blinded, along with i think it will deter more acid attacks atleast a little bit.

rick   February 20th, 2009 12:36 pm ET

I think that the man who did the crime should get what he deserves because not only did he hurt the women, he hurt people who are now afraid of a similar attack. I think it is a messed up thing, and the man should get the worst of punishments.

Nathan   February 20th, 2009 12:36 pm ET

I think it is okay for her to do eye for an eye because that guy disserves it. It would be a message out to all of the people who use acid to hit someone to teach them not to do it.

derek   February 20th, 2009 12:36 pm ET

I completely agree with Ameneh with the way she wants to handle the punishment of her attacker. The man blinded her so i think that justice would be served if the same thing was to happen to him.

Petey   February 20th, 2009 12:36 pm ET

I think that it is a good idea for the man to get the same punishment he gave to her because he truly does not know how it feels to be in her shoes until he actually suffers the same way.

Kirstie   February 20th, 2009 12:37 pm ET

I do believe that the man who did this should be punished in some way but not exactly in the way she wants him to be. I think that if she pours acid on his face, she is going down to his level. I don't think thats what she is wanting. I think a fair punishment could be jail time or some other type of restriction. Not making him go through a ton of pain.

Shayne   February 20th, 2009 12:37 pm ET

An eye for an eye seems like the right thing to do but if she blinds him with acid like he did to her then she is just as wrong as he was. Two wrongs don’t make a right.

Cassie   February 20th, 2009 12:38 pm ET

I think it's a perfect punishment for her so called " Suitor", if he really loved her, he wouldn't have poured acid on her face. She wants an eye, give her the eye!

Erica   February 20th, 2009 12:38 pm ET

I think that it is the right punishment for Amenehs attacker. He should feel what it was like for her going through all that pain. If he is blinded then he cant ever do it to anyone else again. There are other ways but I think that this is the best way to go about it.

Britney   February 20th, 2009 12:39 pm ET

Yes he should be punished eye for an eye. he ruined that ladys life, and she will never have it back. I do not think that he should go on living his life normally when the person who he threw the acid on cant live hers. people need to stop feeling sorry for this guy. Obviosly to him its not a big deal to throw acid on someone else ruining their life so if its not a big deal to him then he should get it.

Jen Jen   February 20th, 2009 12:40 pm ET

Well, I think it depends on how she blinds him. If it causes him too much pain, I'll have to say no.

Alissa   February 20th, 2009 12:40 pm ET

I think he deserves the acid in the eyes. He needs to know that what he did to that women was VERY WRONG and how painful it was for her!!!

carley   February 20th, 2009 12:42 pm ET

an eye for an eye is a good solution.... the united states injustice system is not good if we did the same thing to the person who did the crime there would be less crime.

kylee   February 20th, 2009 12:42 pm ET

i think that she should not do that she should just put him in jail an eye for an eye is just to cruel

Coach Bates Class   February 20th, 2009 12:42 pm ET

This is terrible! We think he deserves the punishment!

Charlie   February 20th, 2009 12:42 pm ET

I think he deserves to feel the pain that she did and go to jail. It kind of cruel but he did it to her. Remember, if you can't do the time don't do the crime.

Michael   February 20th, 2009 12:43 pm ET

While it would be good payback for getting blinded for the rest of my
life, i don'n believe that giving him a 'taste of his own medicine'
wouldnt be the appropriate course of action. The correct punishment should be to put him in jail for 5-8 years.

Madi   February 20th, 2009 12:43 pm ET

Treat other's the way you would want to be treated! I do think he definately needs to be punished, by being out in jail for a very long time. Ameneh should take the blood money to pay for her medical bills.

Leanna   February 20th, 2009 12:44 pm ET

I absolutly DO NOT agree with that. The man made a mistake, every one does. It just so happens that he made a big one. Just put him in jail, no need to make drastic decisions!

Charlie   February 20th, 2009 12:44 pm ET

It was not nice to do that to an inocent woman. Throw acid at him!

Jen Jen   February 20th, 2009 12:46 pm ET

Well, I think that he should be blinded, but if it causes him too much pain, I'll have to say no.

Madi   February 20th, 2009 12:46 pm ET

Blinding Ameneh's attacker deosn't keep it from happening in the future to other people. Some one else could attack people with acid. I think Ameneh should have taken the blood money and have her attacker in jail for a very long time!

ruby   February 20th, 2009 12:47 pm ET

i think that she is doing the right thing, i would do the same thing, but no for pay back. i would do it so other people know that it is wrong and that you will get justice.

- ruby

Charlie   February 20th, 2009 12:47 pm ET

If someone does not want to mary you leave them alone. It is not nice to put acid on them.

Sebastian   February 20th, 2009 12:48 pm ET

i think that the guy got what he deserved. All criminals who hurt some one should get that treatment then be put in jail!!

ruby   February 20th, 2009 12:49 pm ET

i mean the person you did it to would get justice

Angel   February 20th, 2009 12:50 pm ET

I think that the man should be put into prison RIGHT NOW, or should be put into a straight chair. Just because she didn't want to marry him doesn't mean that he had to throw that acid in her face. Like they said
"An eye for an eye leaves the whole world blind."

Coach Bates Class   February 20th, 2009 12:52 pm ET

This is terrible! Some of us think he should be punished with the acid. Others in our class want him to be punished, but in a different way.

Olivia   February 20th, 2009 12:54 pm ET

If everyone believed in "An eye for an eye" the world just be a place of danger and revenge. Although he should be severely punished, an eye for an eye is NOT the way to go!

Tanner   February 20th, 2009 1:00 pm ET

I think that the punishment is just beacause why shold he keep his eyes if he took someone eles'es

Sabrina   February 20th, 2009 1:01 pm ET

I don't think he should be blinded. I think he should pay for the hospital bills (if any) and be sentenced to take anger management for a long time. Ameneh should deffanitly put a restraining order on him. She should have done that a long time ago, I know I would have.

Tiffany   February 20th, 2009 1:05 pm ET

That is so rud.
It is not fair and mean.
Why would he do that.
I think it scould happen to him.
Then he will know how much this purson hurts inside.

Erik   February 20th, 2009 1:17 pm ET

I have mixed feelings about this one. The punishment is sort of extreme but here in the U.S people are given the death penalty for killing another person so why should this be any different.

Chandler   February 20th, 2009 1:17 pm ET

I think he will get what he has coming for him.

Shaq   February 20th, 2009 1:18 pm ET

I think that it is a fair treatment. Somebody who takes sight, should have their sight taken. I don't think it is a good thing to do in government, though.

Simone   February 20th, 2009 1:18 pm ET

I think it was a very good idea to make him pay for his actions, because obviously he had lost his mind. I would be there when he got acid poured in his eyes with popcorn.

Abby   February 20th, 2009 1:19 pm ET

I think that this punishment is harsh, but not unheard of. I think we all understand that what this man did was wrong and by no doubt should be punished harshly, but he shouldn't get acid dumped on his face.

Ross   February 20th, 2009 1:19 pm ET

I think the punishment was the best decision they could have made. That man should have to suffer more than she did because she dd nothing to deserve it

Wes   February 20th, 2009 1:20 pm ET

She got what she deserved. But i think she should have taken the money

Tony   February 20th, 2009 1:21 pm ET

I think that just because somebody did something wrong doesnt make it right. Just put him in jail for life without parrol.

Jada   February 20th, 2009 1:21 pm ET

I thin that this is a kvery harsh punishment. I unkderstand that he did wrong to her but, why blind this man. I think he should be taught a lesson. What if someone accidentally killed a baby should they kill another child for what there parents did. So it may seem as a good punishment but really why blind him.

Dillon   February 20th, 2009 1:21 pm ET

I think that what goes around comes around. Just giving money to make up for it is a good enough. He deserves it completely and i think it should stand

Nazahah   February 20th, 2009 1:24 pm ET

I think that he should get the eye punishment and go to jail for at least a few years because he needs to feel how it is to be blinded and he needs to be punished for his actions.

Amanda   February 20th, 2009 1:26 pm ET

I don't think that it is a fair punishment for Ameneh's attacker. I think that two wrongs don't make a right. He does deserve to be severely punished for forever changing Ameneh's life and he can not get away with simply paying her off.

Scott   February 20th, 2009 1:26 pm ET

I completely agree with her decision, if I looked like that i would want him to look the same. Blood Money isn't going to bring back her looks.

TyLeR   February 20th, 2009 1:27 pm ET

I think that the man should get acid thrown in his eyes I mean it sounds cruel and all but look at all the pain he has caused that woman.

Josh   February 20th, 2009 1:27 pm ET

I think that the lady has every right to want the man to suffer as she is, but if I was in her position I would want the man put in jail.

jillian   February 20th, 2009 1:29 pm ET

poor girl. she was so pretty before the acid thing. he should be punished for his actions. i think that he should get the eye-to-eye treatment because that's the pain he put the girl through. he needs to know how it feels.

Katelyn   February 20th, 2009 1:29 pm ET

I think that the man should be punished just like the woman because he caused her lots of pain and should be treated the same way even if it is a horrible punishment.

Elizabeth   February 20th, 2009 1:33 pm ET

As much as I would love to see the man blinded, if we want a better world we have to set a better example and someone has to take the first step.

Michael   February 20th, 2009 1:34 pm ET

If i was the woman, i would consider getting the acid poured in his eyes. But we are in America, so that would be considered unconstitutional. She should take the blood money and he should be sent to jail!

keyona   February 20th, 2009 1:35 pm ET

i think he deseves it what is she gonna do with money she cant see and this man is gonna walk around free i think she did the right thing

Elizabeth   February 20th, 2009 1:35 pm ET

As much as this man deserves going blind it wouldn't help the world. Because an eye for an eye makes the world go blind.

cheyonne   February 20th, 2009 1:36 pm ET

I think that there should be another way then to throw acid in his face or get the money, but if it was only the two punishments to choose from I think that the acid in his face would be better in stead of taking the money. If she takes the money then he can walk the streets again and maybe do the same thing to another girl.

Mrs. Jensen's 7th grade LA class   February 20th, 2009 1:44 pm ET

We feel the attacker should be punished severely, but not with acid. An "eye for an eye" doesn't work in America. We believe in justice AND mercy by the courts.

andres   February 20th, 2009 2:00 pm ET

Violence causes most of the mistakes in this world. An eye-for-an-eye promotes this kind of violece. So I think it is a wrong decision. We need to forgive people and make more peace. Peace makes a better world

Brittany   February 20th, 2009 2:02 pm ET

I think that is an incorrect punishment for the attacker. I think he should be put in jail for the rest of his life.

kelz   February 20th, 2009 2:04 pm ET

i think that she is right... if you do someone wrong for no reason then you should be penalized the same or worst.

Brad   February 20th, 2009 2:04 pm ET

I think the man who poured acid in the woman's eye should have the same thing done to him as a punishment. He had no right whatsoever to do that to an innocent woman so he deserves the same punishment

Mike   February 20th, 2009 2:04 pm ET

I think the correct punishment is to blind him because he did it to her so its only fair that way. Also, it will help prevent another victim of being blinded by acid.

Amber   February 20th, 2009 2:05 pm ET

I don't think that he should have to lose his eyes like her, but I think that he should have some kind of punishment.

Hope   February 20th, 2009 2:06 pm ET

I think the only way people in that country are going to stop violent crimes like that is to be severely punished. I think eye for an eye is the best way, that way the people of Iran will be too scared to commit crimes like that in the future.

Ryan   February 20th, 2009 2:06 pm ET

I feel that the guy who did that should get acid thrown in his face and be put in jail for life. He should definitely get what he deserves for causing that much pain to someone just for saying no.

TY   February 20th, 2009 2:09 pm ET

i feel the dude should get acid in his eye to. i mean that is some serious stuff and he should have to know what its like to have to deal with blindness like she has to

Madi and Leisa   February 20th, 2009 2:10 pm ET

We think it's a fair idea. If that happened to me I would want the person who did it to know what it's like.

jeremy   February 20th, 2009 2:10 pm ET

Taking from a human rights standpoint, I feel that Ameneh's retaliation from her injuries proves to be unconstitutional by our own standards, however, we should not be ethnocentric in our feelings towards this opinion. Our view of the world should be culturally relative and accept Ameneh's wishes. It should make us take a step back and appreciate the justice system that is in place in a democratic republic such as the United States.

Kaela&Laura   February 20th, 2009 2:10 pm ET

We think that they should punish him like the same way she got hurt. Like put acid on his face and see how he likes it! But seriously thats so wrong!! =(

michael   February 20th, 2009 2:11 pm ET

i think that he should get the acid for blinding that woman. but if i was the one giving him the sentence then i would give him the death penalty, u just dont do something like that to a person.

Joel   February 20th, 2009 2:12 pm ET

This punishment fits the crime. If he just pays the money it sets an example that any person can get away with it. The lady just wants to protect others by making an example of him.

Lou Lou   February 20th, 2009 2:12 pm ET

Two wrongs don't make a right. She should move on with her life. I do agree that he should be punished but not by putting acid into his eyes. It just seems kind of childish.

Daniel   February 20th, 2009 2:13 pm ET

I believe that the man that blindes this woman should have acid put in his eyes. If he does it again then they should put him in jail for life. either or this man sould be dealt with so he never does it again.

Katie Kay   February 20th, 2009 2:13 pm ET

I don’t think the whole acid approach is an equal or fair punishment. How would that solve anything. It’s not like he was targeting random people. He was just focused on her. He should still be punished. Prison perhaps, but not the acid because then she would be just as good as him.

Kyle   February 20th, 2009 2:13 pm ET

I think that putting acid in his eye is crazy but reasonable if he wanted to burn someone else with the acid then he should feel the pain right back he will definitely realize his doings were wrong.

Kayla   February 20th, 2009 2:14 pm ET

He shouldn’t have to get acid poured on his eyes but I do believe that he should be put in prison for a really long time. What he did was really wrong.

Harrison   February 20th, 2009 2:15 pm ET

I believe that Ameneh should get revenge by bliding the attacker as well as recieving the "blood money". That kind of action (especially toward a female) should be piad for with full consequences. If I were deciding the punishment, I would also add some time in jail because of his attitude and harrassments to her before the crime was commited.

Alexis   February 20th, 2009 2:15 pm ET

I agree with Ameneh Bahrami and the Iranian court. This punishment is not so much revenge as it is a deterrent from further crimes of this nature. If you were to look at countries that cut of the hand of a thief, their thievery rate is much lower. Punishments that match the crime prevent further offense. It’s a proven fact.

Heather & micayla   February 20th, 2009 2:15 pm ET

We think blinding the attacker is the right punishment. Now the attacker can feel the same pain that Ameneh Bahrami is feeling.

Eric   February 20th, 2009 2:15 pm ET

i think that its a good punishment. he pretty much deserves it for ruining her life.

Jordan   February 20th, 2009 2:16 pm ET

Personally I feel as though he needs to be punished another way. Is it really necessary to make another person in this world blind and disabled? Yeah, he definitely deserves to be punished for what he did, but you can’t fight fire with fire. Maybe like cut off his hand or something, both hands if that makes her feel better, but throwing acid in his face, that is not going to make the women feel better in the long run, well, it shouldn’t anyway.

Mas   February 20th, 2009 2:16 pm ET

That is the saddest thing since 9/11

connor   February 20th, 2009 2:17 pm ET

all i got to say is instead of putting acid in his eyes . they should break his knees and make him do a lap around an olympic swimming pool

Jimmy   February 20th, 2009 2:18 pm ET

I agree with that decision. I think it is fair.

Braunagel   February 20th, 2009 2:19 pm ET

I feel they should not punish him by pouring acid in his eyes. It is not necessary to do the same crime twice when it’s already bad enough. They should just punish the guy with something worse then what he did to her.

JJ   February 20th, 2009 2:20 pm ET

I think that if Ameneh took the "blood money" first and then have acid thrown in his face then put him in jail. If the person that is supose to throw acid in Ameneh's attacker didn't do that and put him in jail then throw acid in his face then Ameneh would be very happy.

belac   February 20th, 2009 2:20 pm ET

I think she should get to burn his eyes out and se how he likes it.

Ricky   February 20th, 2009 2:20 pm ET

I think the guy shoul have acid thrown in his eyes. He caused a woman to suffe for the rest of her life he should be put through the same punishment so he can never do anything like that again. I think a man that would hurt a woman is not a man anyway.

ty   February 20th, 2009 2:21 pm ET

I believe that the man should be punished the same way he asulted the girl

Stephanie   February 20th, 2009 2:21 pm ET

That poor woman told him to leave her alone several times, but he just wouldn’t take no for an answer and punished her for the rest of her life just because he didn’t like to hear a two letter word. He took away her self confidence, her beauty, and now her chances of getting married are slim to none because who wants to marry someone with a melted face? As shallow as that sounds, it’s true. And if she ever has children she will not know what they look like, how sad is that not to be able to see your own child? That man should suffer the same exact offense as she did. If they don’t then everyone will assume they can get away with throwing acid in a poor woman’s face.

Coach   February 20th, 2009 2:22 pm ET

Human nature with added anger lends itself to the eye for an eye mentality, but doesn't every human have basic human rights? Unlike the current penal system in America where it seems that the only discomfort that prisoners experience is the lack of mobility, my only request is that the punishment redered reflect an overall discomfort for the guilty. In this case, if it is an eye for an eye, then so be it.

Corbin   February 20th, 2009 2:22 pm ET

That’s crazy to blind another person even if they threw acid in her eyes. It’s true he does deserve punishment, but to strap the guy down and pour acid in his eyes is too much. The man sounds mentally unstable if he threw acid in her eyes for not marrying him. Instead of torturing him to keep him from “attacking again” they should just execute him, because he won’t be attacking people again if he’s dead.

Taylor   February 20th, 2009 2:23 pm ET

It is a justified punishment we put people to the death penalty for being murders, he deserves it.

Spencer   February 20th, 2009 2:23 pm ET

I don’t agree with an eye for an eye punishment at all. I don’t believe that this type of punishment is ever justified. This lady clearly just wants revenge rather than justice, and I believe prison is enough of a punishment. I know she must feel very angry that her sight was taken away, but she needs to realize that what she is proposing is just as sick as what the attacker did to her. If he spends a very long time in jail, justice will be served, but in a humane way, and something like this will hopefully never happen again.

Danielle   February 20th, 2009 2:27 pm ET

i think she should get blood money because blinding the attacker would not solve anything and it is cruel. I agree that he did that to her but still, what would it solve?

Jimmy   February 20th, 2009 2:30 pm ET

It is easy to look at this from a third party perspective and say the decision would be simple. She was wronged, yes. What was done to her was a damading, life altering event that can be undone and the damages from it will most likely never be repaired but allowing her to repeat the act would be... barbaric. Childish. She should take a higher road, see how this effected her, and never wish it on another person.

Joe Dirt   February 20th, 2009 2:33 pm ET

I think they should do both because he will know what it feels like to have his eyes burned.

Kiera   February 20th, 2009 2:46 pm ET

Sure what he did was cruel, but it shouldn't have to happen to two people.

Cody   February 20th, 2009 2:55 pm ET

I think the punishment should include acid in his eyes, but they should also cut off his fingertips, and then starve him for a week, and then give him a piece of stale bread with no butter that he can't pick up.

Conrad   February 20th, 2009 3:07 pm ET

he should be punished for what he did, he should get it back or else it would break the law of what goes around comes around.

Keeley   February 20th, 2009 3:23 pm ET

I think that they should have put the guy in jail. It wasn't fair for to be punished by saying NO!

Alison   February 20th, 2009 3:24 pm ET

I think Ameneh has a right to be upset, but I personally think that making him blind isn't right. Two wrongs don't make a right.

Haley   February 20th, 2009 3:25 pm ET

I think that the attaker has done a very wrong thing for sure. He should be punished for it but i don't beleive that he should be blinded for it. That is a little on the inhumane side of things and I think she should take a shot at the "blood money".

Ms. Keller's Class   February 20th, 2009 3:33 pm ET

Our class was split today on this story. Part of us believe in the courts to make the appropriate judgement, some of believe two wrongs don't make a right, but we all believe that if everyone still abided by the Golden Rule "treat others the way you want to be treated," this incident would have never happened. Some people are missing the empathetic gene and need to be punished in other ways to the betterment and future of society.

Britney   February 20th, 2009 3:35 pm ET

i think that the eye for an eye idea is reasonable. the attacker should have to go through what she went through its only fair. This does not make her just as bad either it makes them even not any worse than what the attcker did to her!

Cayla   February 20th, 2009 3:35 pm ET

I agree because he shouldn't have put acid in her eyes to begin with. If all the people in Iran knew if they put acid in other people's eyes they get their eyes burned out too, they probably wouldn't do that.

Max   February 20th, 2009 3:38 pm ET

I think he should of turned himself in because that was serius. that woman was totally inasent.

Sarah :)   February 20th, 2009 3:45 pm ET

I know that she wants to "save other people" from getting hurt like she did, but fighting fire with fire never helped anyone. I don't think that Doing the the same thing to him will punish him, it's just cruel

Mardi   February 20th, 2009 3:46 pm ET

I don't think that they should blind him. He did the crime and he is paying the time and he doesn't need anything else to be punished.

Luke   February 20th, 2009 3:46 pm ET

What would Jesus do?

Jade   February 20th, 2009 3:47 pm ET

I think that the man that proposed to her should get what he deserves he had no right to through acid in his face and justice should be served!

Corbin   February 20th, 2009 3:48 pm ET

I believe that the only way to get the message across to criminals is to make them feel the same way their victims did. If they want to pour acid in the man's eyes, then that will make sure nothing like this will happen again, since people are so willing to inflict pain on other people, but won't inflict it on themselves

Jake   February 20th, 2009 3:48 pm ET

I think he should be tried and receive a punishment that wouldn't be included in the Cruel and Unusual Punishment section. He should however get the punishment he deserves.

Jade   February 20th, 2009 3:51 pm ET

I think that the man that proposed to her should get what he deserves he had no right to through acid in her face and justice should be served!

Jenna   February 20th, 2009 3:52 pm ET

I think he should pay for surgery or something so she can look the way she did before the incident. He should pay for it and pay her for doing something as awful as this.

Rebecca   February 20th, 2009 3:55 pm ET

I think that it was wrong what Ameneh did was wrong but, blinding him won`t solve anything. He should be punished but, its a little rash to take that kind of mesure.

Amanda   February 20th, 2009 3:57 pm ET

I don't think that the attacker should be blinded with acid. I understand that the woman wants this because she doesn't want anyone else to ever go through what she went through, but I believe that demanding "an eye for an eye" is wrong. The same thing applies here. The man should be punished for what he did, because his crime was definitely wrong, but I strongly disagree with him being punished by experiencing what he did to this woman.

Olivia   February 20th, 2009 4:07 pm ET

Although he did hurt her, it would be wrong to do the same back. Should Rihanna be alowed to beat up Chris Brown? No.

Abby   February 20th, 2009 4:08 pm ET

I actually think that is so right! I mean if someone did that to me I would be mad and sad and just angry with that person. In order for the person to understand what they did they have to experience the same situation that the other person had been done to. I think it's only fair.

Olivia   February 20th, 2009 4:11 pm ET

I can see where her line of thinking is coming from, but I don't think he should have acid put in his eyes. I do think he should be put in jail for a VERY large amount of time.

Matthew   February 20th, 2009 4:18 pm ET

I think that the guy should get back what he hes done to that women so there will be two acid blind people instead of the innocent one that didn't deserve it just because she didn't wan to marry him!!!

Jared   February 20th, 2009 4:28 pm ET

Hammurabi set up the first set of established "laws", and I honestly think that eye for an eye is a worthy law. And even if the attacker isn't punished, his conscience and shame should be enough for him.

nicole   February 20th, 2009 4:30 pm ET

I didn't know that lady was blind

Emily   February 20th, 2009 4:38 pm ET

I think he should get the punishment. Then he would know how she feels from him blinding her. But I still think he should get a harsher punishment.

Anonymous   February 20th, 2009 4:49 pm ET

I saw it i just cant beleve it acid who is sick enough to do that i mean serously thats just wrong.

Jeff   February 20th, 2009 4:53 pm ET

i think it is pure evil to hurt someone who rejected you in the first place, but making them sufur that badly defenitily needs punishment but the could be jail

Sarah   February 20th, 2009 4:59 pm ET

I think that he should be charged because what if you were walking home, heard footsteps and someone blinded you with acid. Well I am completely on her side.

Betsy   February 20th, 2009 5:02 pm ET

I think that the man should be punished, but pouring acid in his face seems a bit extreme. Jail would be good. Jail for a long, long time.

Alexis   February 20th, 2009 5:11 pm ET

if that was me i would trample the guy....................... ^_^

Samantha,tori and hannah   February 20th, 2009 5:15 pm ET

we all think that he should get a eye for a eye becuase it was very wrong of him to do that and he should also have to suffer the consequnces. love you carl!!!!

susie   February 20th, 2009 5:17 pm ET

i think they should let her do the same thing back to him as he did to her (:

Lucinda   February 20th, 2009 5:32 pm ET

Going to a catholic school I have learned, that when someone does something you should not fight back but that man earned his punishment.

Laquisha   February 20th, 2009 5:39 pm ET

I think that fighting fire with fire only makes a bigger fire. If this was my defense i would take the money and leave. :)

Pate   February 20th, 2009 5:48 pm ET

I think the eye for an eye concept makes sense. It's not fair if Ameneh's attacker gets off with a simple jail sentence, while Ameneh is handicapped for the rest of her life. He should suffer the same fate he caused her. Then I think he would feel truly sorry for what he's done to her.

Martha   February 20th, 2009 5:50 pm ET

This is a horrible thing to have happened and I feel horrible for this women but the man deserves everything he gets. This man ruined her life for purely selfish reasons, and even though some people say that this ruling isnt fair, that its selfish...she deserves HER JUSTICE...the only justice she feels will make her safe and others safe as well. This man wil never understand the pain he caused this woman and I only pray that he'll feel some of that pain when justice is served.

Jackie   February 20th, 2009 5:51 pm ET

"An eye for an eye makes the whole world blind." is the expression we usually hear, but in this case it's no different, I don't think he should have his sight taken away. I think he should pay a large amount of money and or pay for surgery on her face to reconstruct it and also spend a life sentence in jail.

Rylee   February 20th, 2009 6:07 pm ET

I dont think that blinding her was the right punishment just because she said NO when the guy asked her to marry her!!!!!!!!!!!!! she did not deserve to get acid thrown into her face.If that was me i would of beat up that guy! :-)

Daniel   February 20th, 2009 6:09 pm ET

He should have acid poured in his face see how he likes it,also where did he get the acid from in the first place.

Emma   February 20th, 2009 6:10 pm ET

She probably does feel like she wants some revenge because he blinded her. But her idea of revenge is blinding him...this may seen resasonable to her, but it's a little disturbing that she would want such a violent revenge. Just take the money and forgive.

Emma   February 20th, 2009 6:12 pm ET

*pay the money

Ella   February 20th, 2009 6:21 pm ET

He should pay for the crime that he committed. Even though it might seem unfair in our society, it is normal in their's.

Austin   February 20th, 2009 6:23 pm ET

I think that she should blind him for that because he blinded her. he should pay a fine and get blinded for the punishment..... DUH dont we get in trouble for things we do?

Carlos   February 20th, 2009 6:24 pm ET

I feel sorry for her too but why would the man throw acid at her when he is angry? If I were him I would not do that! That is not cool and she said no to him. That made him angry. This is not what men should do.

Danya   February 20th, 2009 6:24 pm ET

Well, I think that they should punish him by blinding him. I really don't think that saying "no" is a reason for blinding someone. Besides, where could he have gotten the acid from???

Kaitlyn   February 20th, 2009 6:26 pm ET

If it were me I would make him suffer just like I did......no questions asked!

Sydole   February 20th, 2009 6:28 pm ET

The ghy who did it should get punished but not that way! It is like fighting fire with fire. fire+fire+FIRE. not ice

Alison   February 20th, 2009 6:31 pm ET

Ameneh has a right to be upset, but I do not think it would be right to burn him with acid. Two wrongs don't make a right.

Victoria   February 20th, 2009 6:33 pm ET

I believe what that man did was wrong, but I find it cruel to do the same thing to him. He should be punnished severelly though.

Joseph   February 20th, 2009 6:34 pm ET

I think that an eye for an eye is right in this situation. I would want my attacker to feal the pain i did so that he wouldn't do it again. Although the money could have helped her, I think she made the right desicion.

Alison   February 20th, 2009 6:35 pm ET

I think that he should not be punished by blinding him but by showing him what he did to Ameneh. He may rethink what he did and if it was worth it.

carley   February 20th, 2009 6:48 pm ET

I DO NOT THINK HE SHOULD BE PUISHED HE SOULD JUST BE IN JAIL FOR THE REST OF HIS LIFE.

hanna   February 20th, 2009 6:50 pm ET

The guy should get acid on his eye, because he did a terrible thing. What goes around comes around.

Allison   February 20th, 2009 6:59 pm ET

I think that justice was served!! The guy got what he deserved, and I think that he could get a more harsh punishment, but acid thrown in his eyes is good enough.

Brianna   February 20th, 2009 6:59 pm ET

I think that he should get the eye for an eye and get the same pain that she got because what he did to her was uncalled for ... there was no reason for him to that to her... just because she didn't wanna marry him that was really stupid for him to do that

Jasmine   February 20th, 2009 6:59 pm ET

I think that blinding the attacker is just as worse. She should just take the money and be happy with it before something worse happens.

Carolyn   February 20th, 2009 7:02 pm ET

I think the eye for an eye punishment is wrong. Fighting violence with violence just doesn't work! The man should have a life sentence in jail to make sure it doesn't happen again. What he did was wrong and he deserves to be punished for it.

gabi   February 20th, 2009 7:15 pm ET

i dont know.... i guess she should get the blood money but that guy should be punished. it depends on how strong her feeling are in this situation. ^-^
cnn student new rox!!

Ringo   February 20th, 2009 7:27 pm ET

i think that he should not be blinded but served a fair trail cause "treat others the way you want to be treated"

Madison   February 20th, 2009 7:28 pm ET

I don't think someone should force someone to marry them, and then when they don't say yes, that they should harm their life forever.

Maddie   February 20th, 2009 7:31 pm ET

"An Eye for eye makes the world go blind." Thats what the say is. The guy deserves punishment but blinding him? That sounds a little harsh right there, can't they just make pay for her hospital bill? Harassment is wrong and the woman should have someone this problem! Thanks for listening!^^

rachhel   February 20th, 2009 7:45 pm ET

I completely agree with Ameneh. That was a terrible thing to do to her and he should know exactly how she feels and what she is going through!

Christan   February 20th, 2009 7:51 pm ET

I THINK HE DESERVES IT. AN EYE FOR AN EYE AND A TOOTH FOR A TOOTH. HE SHOULD GET ACID IN HIS EYES SO HE KNOWS HOW IT FEELS. DONT DO THE CRIME IF U CANT DO THE TIME.!!!!!!!!!!

Alex   February 20th, 2009 8:09 pm ET

I think she should acis his face to get him back

Chimane   February 20th, 2009 8:17 pm ET

That definatly was not the right thing to put acid on her face. But I think having an eye for an eye is a little to harsh. He needs to find a better way to deal with his anger. They should find another sentence to punish him with.

Amelia   February 20th, 2009 8:18 pm ET

I dont usually use cliches but i think that Ameneh ahould take this one into consideration," Two wrongs dont make a right." This statement may be used frequently but in this situation it really applies. She may want to contemplate her actions before it is too late to take them back.

Molly   February 20th, 2009 8:18 pm ET

That is so not right. I would never do that in my life. I wouldn't an American would do that to someone. That is just rude and hurtful to that person.

emilee   February 20th, 2009 8:21 pm ET

Honestly, I would take both. Have him have acid in his eyes and then have him pay a fine. He should have thought twice about throwing acid in someone's face.

Kourtney :)   February 20th, 2009 8:21 pm ET

If they did decide to throw acid in his face it would stop it from happening again to someone else cause who wants to get Acid in thier face!!!!! duh!!!

Unknown   February 20th, 2009 8:27 pm ET

I think that her reason is good, but with the wrong idea. Two wrongs don't make a right. I feel sorry for her to have to gone through this troubling experience.

Benny   February 20th, 2009 8:41 pm ET

I think that there should be a comprise. The attacker should be burned with acid so that it disfigures him as it did the lady and also pay the blood money. He will have to live with his punishment for the rest of his life and the lady may be able to use the money for surgery of some kind.

mariah   February 20th, 2009 8:46 pm ET

i say that she should be able to do what she wants to do to him because he really should have acceppted the truth that she did not wat to marry him

Nikita   February 20th, 2009 9:01 pm ET

I think that her poring acid in his eyes is a good enough punishment but, he should also pay for her medical bills.

Terrell   February 20th, 2009 9:02 pm ET

I dont think its a good thing to do that because I would be the bigger person and im sure it will catch up with him

-Terrell

Buddy   February 20th, 2009 9:14 pm ET

i think he should get what she got which is acid to the eyes becasue if she suffers he should have to as well

Dylan   February 20th, 2009 9:21 pm ET

I think that they should givre him that punishment, it isn't right for someone to do something like that to a poor woman, I'M ROOTING FOR YOU GIRL.! That's all I have to say about that.

Brittany   February 20th, 2009 9:26 pm ET

I feel that he should be blinded with acid and she should also get the so called "blood money" for what he had done.

Drake   February 20th, 2009 9:40 pm ET

after seeing Ameneh i almost wanted to puke, from the grossness of the way she looked, but the stupid idiot that caused this to happen to Ameneh should be locked in prison PERMANANTLY NO PEROLE NO NOTHING OF THAT NATURE

tom   February 20th, 2009 9:48 pm ET

i think that he should have more than just being blinded because he has ruined her life and i think his life should be ruined as well

Alice   February 20th, 2009 9:49 pm ET

I think that though Ameneh Brahrami is entitled to see her attacker punished, it is not right for her to hurt him the same way he hurt her. If she hurts him the same way he hurt her, she is just as bad as he is. The only difference between their actions is that Ameneh Brahrami has the pretense of law covering it. There is no excuse for what her attacker did, just as there would be no excuse for her to do the same. It is never right to fight fire with fire; you will only get burned. No one should be able to hurt anyone like that, no matter what they did.

scarlett   February 20th, 2009 9:54 pm ET

i feel that she should have taken the "blood money" because if her attacker has to take acid it would be more like revenge than a punishment.

Rosalie   February 20th, 2009 9:56 pm ET

Ameneh Brahrami is fully entitled to choose whatever punishment she wants for her attacker. He hurt her; he should feel her pain. It is perfectly right for Ameneh Brahrami to want her attacker to experience her suffering, to feel the pain he enflicted.

Rebecca   February 20th, 2009 9:57 pm ET

Thats not cool at all i think he should feel what he did to her.And my teacher and my classmates were talking about that alot .

Thank you,
Rebecca

Quan   February 20th, 2009 9:59 pm ET

An eye for an eye would be the most fair punishment for the vicious attack that took place on that poor woman. No prison sentance can make that malicious man feel the pain she has to endure and is reminded of every day. I hope that the right decision is made and that the law of an eye for an eye is enforced and justice is served! See you monday Carl.

Bella   February 20th, 2009 10:01 pm ET

If everyone took an eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth, the whole world would be eyeless and toothless. If all we wanted was revenge and vengance, everyone would suffer from the people they'd hurt, as well as inflict pain on the people who wronged them.

rebecca   February 20th, 2009 10:04 pm ET

I think he should be blind to see how that makes him feel no fair at all if that was me i would do the same to him see how it makes him feel.My teacher told me thats not a nice way but still i got to make my own way.Me and my classmates are big fan!!!!!!!!!!!(5A-4B we love you)

Stephanie   February 20th, 2009 10:06 pm ET

i do not believe that the man should have his eyes burned. It makes violence the answer, although it never is.......
However, I do not believe in taking blood money. It does nothing. I would not want to take someone else's money.
But he should be jailed instead. For life. no perol

DaWayne   February 20th, 2009 10:09 pm ET

When You fight fire with fire everyone gets hurt

Ashleigh   February 20th, 2009 10:24 pm ET

I think that it isn't okay for them to do that. Sure he did completly ruin her face, but 2 wrongs don't make it right. What I would do is sentence him for life in jail.

Erin   February 20th, 2009 10:31 pm ET

I think that it's bad what her attacker did but two wrongs don't make a right.

Bella   February 20th, 2009 10:42 pm ET

Two wrongs don't make a right.

josh   February 20th, 2009 11:33 pm ET

like the saying goes eye for a eye, arm for a arm, etc. this is a world where justice is left unattended so this is the right thing to do,like she said 'i don't want this to anyone else'.

mariah   February 21st, 2009 12:31 am ET

I think that he deserves to be blind. If one man is going to use violence to get the girl to marry him, and it hurts her, then she should get what's comming to him, and pay for it.

Blayre   February 21st, 2009 12:41 am ET

An eye for an eye leaves the whole world blind. I do definitely agree that he should recieve severe punishment, however, two wrongs don't make a right.

Quan   February 21st, 2009 12:55 am ET

An eye for an eye would be the most fair punishment for the vicious attack that took place on that poor woman. No prison sentance can make that malicious man feel the pain she has to endure and is reminded of every day. emoshawna   February 21st, 2009 1:20 am ET

yes, i think it is a good idea. other people who are thinking of doing it will realize that it will hurt them alot. And they may be detured and not do it.

Junie   February 21st, 2009 6:32 am ET

Even though it is terrible to get back the way she got hurt, I agree on taking an eye to an eye. Because it was done on purpose I think they chose a reasonable puishment . It should help the others causing an similer crim. I sure don't want anything like that happening to ME!

shaina   February 21st, 2009 9:09 am ET

its okay for them to do that but still to wrongs dont make a right granted he should not have done that to her

Somya   February 21st, 2009 9:41 am ET

I think that the story was pretty weird. that person should go to prison or get a punnishment. I would understand if that was an accident but he really meant to hurt her.

shanelle   February 21st, 2009 10:11 am ET

I think it's bad,but What the attacker did was very wrong.

kiki   February 21st, 2009 10:11 am ET

I think he deserves acid in his eyes to .
If you do something bad to somebody you should get it right back at you.

shanelle:)   February 21st, 2009 10:14 am ET

I feel very sorry for that women,Her attacker is probably feeling gulity and he should for what he done to a innocent women like her!

Collin   February 21st, 2009 10:23 am ET

I feel deeply sorry for the lady. But the fact she wants to help other people is very astonishing.

Sandy   February 21st, 2009 12:03 pm ET

I think an eye for an eye truely makes the whole world blind. I usually think an eye for an eye is not right, but this is serious! The attacker should face a serious punishment and get blinded by acid also. He should get a taste of his own poke in the eye!

Holly   February 21st, 2009 1:00 pm ET

I don't think he should be blinded. What he did was horrible, but they should find a differen't punishment.

Britnee   February 21st, 2009 1:21 pm ET

I think it isnt a fair punishment two wrongs dont make a right. A fair punishment would be to sentence this guy to jail for life so this wouldnt happen agian.

Princess   February 21st, 2009 1:27 pm ET

People are saying this isnt a fair punishment but if you got acid thrown at your eyes and you could never see agian you would think differently.

Brittnee   February 21st, 2009 1:28 pm ET

People are saying this isnt a fair punishment but if you got acid thrown at your eyes and you could never see agian you would think differently.

-Brittnee

Gerry   February 21st, 2009 1:48 pm ET

I think that if you throw acid in someone’s face then your begging for him or her to do it back. Abide by the golden rule.

Josh   February 21st, 2009 2:45 pm ET

I don't think it would be rite. Just throw him in prison

Hannah   February 21st, 2009 2:49 pm ET

they should punish him but not with blinding, it's just teaching that if you do something like that it gets done back and to me that's the game that my mom used to play on us kids. if we did something to the younger sibling we got it back but in an adult justice system there should be more humane ways of dealing with this than just giving it right back to the other person. I say he should be made to pay the money but should also write a formal appology letter and also should serve some type of community service or be imprisoned for an appropriate amount of time

Raycheal   February 21st, 2009 3:01 pm ET

I think that she should be able to blind him back.
haha. give him what he deserves. if someone did that to me i would do it back. cause that is mean and she shouldnt be suffering for no reason. i would blind him and make him suffer for the rest of his life. he is a mean person!!!!
:p

Joseph   February 21st, 2009 3:39 pm ET

I think that he deserves punishment, and something pretty harsh, but not acid thrown in his eyes. Revenge isn't the right answer to this problem.

Jenny   February 21st, 2009 3:43 pm ET

An eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth just leaves you with a bunch of toothless blind people.

Dana   February 21st, 2009 3:43 pm ET

I think they should blind the attacker so the attacker harm any one else!!

Haley   February 21st, 2009 3:55 pm ET

I think that she does have some rights to what the punishment should be for this crime. On the other hand if she would not want this to happen to her than she probably shouldn't do it to anyone else. There are many punisments out there that would fit this situation. I don't think that she should take the blood money because I don't think that money can fix everything.

Marissa   February 21st, 2009 4:34 pm ET

So i believe that her attacker should be punished but i don't know about blinding him. It would be like the saying don't fight fire with fire because you'll just get a bigger fire. Because what would happen once they blinded him? I think that would just make him bore angry and once he got out of prison (if he gets sent to prison) then he would have adapted to being blind and would be able to hurt her even more. But he should be punished very badly but then again in that country that is sort of their idea (that the man should get what he wants). I don't know exactly how he should be punished but it should be something that would definitely keep him away from her and anyone else.

Coty   February 21st, 2009 5:05 pm ET

I believe that this woman looked nice before she was blinded, but i also think the man which blinded her should get a punishment like a death sentence or just a lifetime on prison, my conclusion is just to make sure the man who blinded this nice woman should just have a worse punishment.

Joccelynn   February 21st, 2009 5:31 pm ET

I say that she have to give revenge to him.

Leslie   February 21st, 2009 6:18 pm ET

I think they should put acid in his eyes. So it can show as an example for other people.

Brennan   February 21st, 2009 6:50 pm ET

An eye for an eye makes the world blind. Make peace not hate. She should of taken the blood money.

Mr. Brooks class   February 21st, 2009 6:56 pm ET

We think he should get the punishment, but ameneh should have to do something in return.

Kelli   February 21st, 2009 8:23 pm ET

I think that he should go through the same thing that he put her through, it's only fair

ashton   February 21st, 2009 9:25 pm ET

man thats just crazy i mean he should die or go to jail for that

brianna   February 21st, 2009 9:35 pm ET

i think that they should do something about the acid attck because its not right to force someone to marry you when they do not want to i think that is so wrong for someone to do such a thing like that!!!!!!!!

A.J   February 21st, 2009 9:36 pm ET

I think the man should get the same fate what goes around comes around

Hannah   February 21st, 2009 10:00 pm ET

An eye for an eye? That is not the way his punishment should be. You hurt me so I hurt you? No way! That's childish. Make the evil man work for the community and do something productive for the rest of his life. Forgive and forget, please.

Robert   February 21st, 2009 11:15 pm ET

I think that justice will be served if he is executed instead of blinded by acid because to me what he did was a crime against humanity and this woman did nothing to hurt him. I don't think that anyone should defend this man either because he had no right to commit this act.

Naheed   February 22nd, 2009 12:24 am ET

It should be eye for an eye unless the woman forgives him and ask for the blood money. If she wants him to be punished exactly the way he did to her then she is not for something unfair to be done with her attacker. Just for a while we put the attacker in her shoes what would he have expected of his attacker.

Darcee=)   February 22nd, 2009 1:29 am ET

I think that its fair an eye for an eye....but will that make things any better? its just going to make the other family and him even more mad! just waiting for a chance to get revenge!

Ashley   February 22nd, 2009 1:31 am ET

I think it should be allowed to punish.

Kerry   February 22nd, 2009 6:47 am ET

I don't think this should happen. An eye for an eye is alomst as bad as the original crime, and if we know this, we shouldn't let horrible thing happen all over again. And besides, making eye for an eye dicision won't make any difference to her as to any body else. Murder happens even if there's a death penalty.

Paco   February 22nd, 2009 9:04 am ET

I believe it is a fair trade. The attacker should know how it feels like to be blind. He should also feel the pain he gave her.

Alex   February 22nd, 2009 9:37 am ET

I think he should go to jail first then get acid in his eyes because if he got acid in his eyes first he would "special treatment" when he doesnt deserve it.

Alexandra   February 22nd, 2009 9:52 am ET

Yes he should get acid in his eyes because he needs to learn from his mistakes and she need to give him a taste of his own medicine -Alexandra

Jordan   February 22nd, 2009 10:04 am ET

i think that he should get acid put back into his eye so he cant see for the rest of his life. I think that girls should mary whoever she wants to and not forced.

zach   February 22nd, 2009 10:20 am ET

I think it is fair. She used to be the envy of her friends, then sploosh! Acid everywhere in her face. And all because she turned down marriage. I understand how revenge would not be appropriate, and just a trial and/or execution would be fair.
P.S. Where did he get the acid.

Darylle   February 22nd, 2009 2:08 pm ET

I don't think what he did was fair at all ! When she said no , he should've taken it , but instead he's going to face what she had to go through . A terrible taste of acid .
Seriously , where did he get that ?!

Hannah   February 22nd, 2009 2:26 pm ET

I think she should take the money from the government but not try to blind him because it will make things worse.

Malachi   February 22nd, 2009 3:39 pm ET

I think that the person that done it should get sent to jail for 2 years for what he to the lady

Haley girl   February 22nd, 2009 4:41 pm ET

blind him two , he had no right to do he needs it

Ruby   February 22nd, 2009 5:09 pm ET

I barely even watched it, It was pretty disturbing.
But! I think, it's pretty fair.
Isn't there an old saying, "an eye for an eye"
???
Maybe, after they did or do this, people will see what happens, and not do it:)

Ruby   February 22nd, 2009 5:10 pm ET

They shouldn't have done this!!
Sure, he did something horrible, but two right don't make a wrong!

Lydia   February 22nd, 2009 5:56 pm ET

I totally believe that he should have acid thrown in his face. If they kill him he won't get to feel the pain she has gone through. From what I've seen he needs to be punished harshly but not killed. He needs to feel the pain of what waking up in the morning and seeing what he has done.

Kelly   February 22nd, 2009 6:07 pm ET

i think that everyone would see the punishment to be different in there mind but i think blood money would be better so that he can see what it has done to her.....and he would no how she must suffer..what she wants is revenge but as they say revenge is never the answer...he will get his in time

hailie   February 22nd, 2009 8:54 pm ET

i think he should get acid thrown in his face "eye for an eye baby " but he should also pay a fine .

Elizabeth   February 22nd, 2009 8:57 pm ET

I don't think that they should punish him like that. Although he blinded her he should be punish by spending the rest of his unfortunate life in jail, or something. Two wrongs don't make a right!

Kelcie   February 22nd, 2009 9:01 pm ET

I believe he should get a harsher punishment than just a fine and acid thrown in his face. Of course it was completely wrong of him to do that to an woman. He should have to go through what he did to her.

ann   February 22nd, 2009 9:33 pm ET

i dont think an eye for and eye would be a great idea because then others might want the same thing and the out come could be way worse.Even though it seems fair its doesnt seem to be for the best

morgan   February 22nd, 2009 11:12 pm ET

i dont think doing the same thing back would be right it will send a bad message to people and it wont really do anything to help i think prison would do the trick :-]

Ira   February 23rd, 2009 7:54 am ET

I think this is really kool but she didn't desiver that just cause she said no to him and if that were meh pow in the face

Kelsey   February 23rd, 2009 11:26 am ET

I don't think that it is right to make to do the same to the guy that made the acid attack because I was always told two wrongs don't make a right. I know that she is probably really angry and mad at the person but she shouldn't punish the attacker because I think it would be the wrong thing to do.

kaylee   February 23rd, 2009 11:53 am ET

I think an "eye for an eye" is just wrong! The worst that should happen is life in prison..........maybe....

Betty   February 23rd, 2009 12:08 pm ET

I hope she can get her wish. It would be GREAT for her to see the throwing of the acid.. Maybe this is the exact treatment a COWARD should get..........................Betty

Charlie   February 23rd, 2009 12:51 pm ET

That man is lonely and needs to get a life.

Marie   February 23rd, 2009 1:24 pm ET

I think that it is awful for anyone to be blinded with acid. I am also stuck between two things. I understand why she wants him to suffer. I would to. But as someone else also said what good does it do to have another blind person in the world?

bryant   February 23rd, 2009 1:28 pm ET

an eye for an eye seems fair but it isnt but you have to respect other countries laws even though you may not think that it is a fair punishment peolple just really need to stop doing irrisponsible things that wil come back to haunt you

Ana   February 23rd, 2009 1:35 pm ET

I think that the punishment of having acid in his eyes is horrible. Its bad enough it happened to her, but that is way to harsh to blind someone else too.

Sami   February 23rd, 2009 3:28 pm ET

An eye for an eye leaves the whole world blind...........amazing words spoken by Ghandi. Yes, what had happened to her is absolutely horrible, and I hope that it happens to no one else. However, two wrongs do not make a right, and her attacker deserves a different type of punishment.

colton   February 23rd, 2009 3:45 pm ET

i thik they shoul acid him and he shoulg go to jail for 47 yaers

justin   February 23rd, 2009 5:22 pm ET

I think that she should bring court action to the abuser

Dominique   February 23rd, 2009 5:39 pm ET

The best nonviolent thing is,to put the attacker in jail for life.
And It'll stil be the same punishment that the woman sugested
but nonviolently.

lorie   February 23rd, 2009 7:33 pm ET

I think that the man should get acid in his eyes. That poor lady should still be seeing if it was not for him.

Maranda   February 23rd, 2009 7:46 pm ET

I think it was absoluelty wrong for him to do that
..
But they are fighting fire with fire.!
Just lock him up and Throw away the key FOR LIFE
No need To like Acid him

clara   February 23rd, 2009 8:03 pm ET

I think thats terrible, on both parts, aciding someones eyes out then damanding to acid out someone else's eyes. I think he should be sent to jail....for a long time. Even if the attacker thought what he was doing was right its been said time and time agian "If you let someone think about it long enough they'll see what was so wrong aboout thier actions" alow this guilt to ferment and viola you've got one sad human being. In additon time is somthing you can never regain but teaches you allot. One day he may even ask forgiveness. Who knows? But not showing him mercy is just as equal as aciding someones eyes/body.

samantha   February 23rd, 2009 8:45 pm ET

i think he should go though the same pain she did

-samantha

Kayla   February 23rd, 2009 8:46 pm ET

I think doing the same thing would be wrong. Like another girl in my class says it really doesn't stop people from commiting heinous crimes like this because like even with the death penalty people still murder. I also think that no matter what their government will choose to do what's best.

Laurel   February 23rd, 2009 10:16 pm ET

It is the womans choice to blind this man or let him walk free. What she should do is make him suffer because if there is no punishment than this crime will show up more and people wont think its wrong and they know they wont get punished

Steven   February 24th, 2009 8:38 am ET

It shouldn't be right to take an eye for an eye. What is the point of blinding another person. There has to be another way to punish the attacker. The blood money should have been taken. That would be better than fighting violence with violence.

Anabel   February 24th, 2009 8:39 am ET

I agree with the woman's statement, let the man suffer the consequences. He should feel the pain that the women suffered when he attacked her, and understand what it's like to be blind for life.

CJ   February 24th, 2009 8:42 am ET

I think that he should be blinded in the same way.Blinding a woman because she won't marry you..?Thats just not right. Therefore he should be blinded as punishment for her pain and suffering.

Paige   February 24th, 2009 8:44 am ET

I don't think it's right for the attacker to go blind too. Why would you show that violence isn't right, by making more violence? Yes, what the attacker did was very wrong, but there are other consequences that can be made for it.

cody   February 24th, 2009 8:45 am ET

I think the guy who threw the acid should suffer if we just killed him then he would get off easy. Thats what I think. Yep.

Riley   February 24th, 2009 8:47 am ET

I believe that the attacker should be blinded with acid to match the pain that she went through. Another sentence would be letting him off way to easy.

Hunter   February 24th, 2009 8:47 am ET

I believe that she should be able to choose his punishment since he made her suffer. Many people say An eye for an eye leaves the whole world blind are great words, but sometimes these words could not be put into consideration. Her choice should be the one that determines his fate.

Anabel   February 24th, 2009 8:53 am ET

I think that the woman has the right for that kind of punishment, the man should feel what it's like to be blind for your whole life and understand how the woman feels about it.

LeAndra   February 24th, 2009 10:11 am ET

I think the person that had done that should get sent to jail for the rest of his life for what he did to the lady.

Lucas   February 24th, 2009 10:22 am ET

I think that blinding him with acid is a fair punishment. Do to them what they do to us right? Plus don't we put some murderers to death? I think it's fair and just.

Michael   February 24th, 2009 10:41 am ET

I thingk he got what he deserved

mariah   February 24th, 2009 10:57 am ET

That is not right and i think that they need to put him away for a while.

Geordan   February 24th, 2009 10:58 am ET

She should of got both. She should of cut it in half with the money but still got the guy the same way he got her. So she should of cut both is what I would of done.

jessica   February 24th, 2009 10:58 am ET

I think yes, this guy deserves to feel what he made this women feel, but two wrongs don't make a right, they just make a worse situation. Why don't they lock him up in a crazy suit, because thats pretty crazy to poor acid on somebody's face and make them blind.

Jacob   February 24th, 2009 10:58 am ET

I think that she took the good choice, eye for an eye. She deserves it, because he blinded her! I'm sure that she could recoup, but he should find out what its like. Maybe he should be blinded, maybe he shouldn't. I think he deserves it.

mckenzie   February 24th, 2009 10:59 am ET

i think that the punishment is a great punishment instead of the blood money. Taking his money would not do anything to stop him from attacking another person and blinding them with chemicals to.

Kyler   February 24th, 2009 11:00 am ET

I think that revenge is the best way to pay someone back. Yes, sure an eye for an eye leaves the whole world blind. But maybe the whole world should be blind.

Veronica   February 24th, 2009 11:01 am ET

I think that it's terrible what happens to innocent people! I think that I wouldn't blind him for blinding her. I would send him to prison for the rest of his life. By doing this you would be blinding him, but in a different way. You'd be blinding him from society.

Alexa   February 24th, 2009 11:04 am ET

I don't think that it was right for that guy to get blinded with acid, because he blinded that girl with acid. He should definitely get punished for what he did because he had no right to do that to that girl just because she wouldn't marry him. Still, they shouldn't have done that to him. That was very wrong for him to do that, but still, why couldn't they just give him another punishment?

Jasmine   February 24th, 2009 11:05 am ET

I think that this so called, "punishment" that the defendant was awarded is a senseless idea. I am saddened by what happened to this poor woman, but two wrongs don't make a right. If she does this to him, it makes her just as guilty as him. I think that the defendant should serve a life sentence in jail, so he has to sit there for years and years and think about what he did. So I don't think that this man should be blinded as punishment for what he did to her.

stephi   February 24th, 2009 11:09 am ET

i think he deserves what he did to her I think that she should have to decide if he wants him to suffer but i think he should get acid in his eyes for what he did to her

Charlie   February 24th, 2009 12:41 pm ET

It is a cruel punishment but what the guy did was worse than cruel. I think he deserves it

Cheyenne   February 24th, 2009 12:44 pm ET

I think that whatever you have done to someone, you should have the same thing done to you.

jordan+kara   February 24th, 2009 12:53 pm ET

i think the guy should be exacuted because the person who put acid into there eye should have to feel the pain she had to so kill him kill hiim:)

Girl   February 24th, 2009 1:11 pm ET

okay i think that guy should get punished for doing that because that took away that ladies sight, and that's about the most precios gift cwe have. The gut should see what it's like to not be able to see, it must suck. He should feel how it's like to not see, because if it was me i would not be happy either sister. mmmhhhmmm!

Jared   February 24th, 2009 1:18 pm ET

I believe that is way far because if somebody did something that horrific to me i want them to pay the same price that i did.

Mckenna   February 24th, 2009 1:19 pm ET

I think the attacker should get pay back. He shouldn't have done that.
He deserves what he gets.

Aryanna   February 24th, 2009 1:19 pm ET

I wouldn't do that to anyone & first of all If I was the people who got him I would of sprayed something that would hurt your eyes like pepper spray & sprayed it in his eyes see how it feels on on to what it really hurts on her for not having eyes or half of her face anymore

Cailie   February 24th, 2009 1:19 pm ET

Ok this whole thing is so dumb. It's bad enough that it happened to one person why do it again??? I think that this person should go to jail for the rest of there live. That is just so mean to so to someone. WHY?

Chaise   February 24th, 2009 1:19 pm ET

I think that it was very rude of that dude to do that just because the woman wouldn't marry him. I think that they shouldn't be able to do this in that country because it hurts innocent people that didn't do anything wrong. I think that they should make it a law that you cannot even carry acid let alone throw it at people because it is just wrong.

Brittany   February 24th, 2009 1:30 pm ET

i think he has it comeing but mabey he can get something else.

jon   February 24th, 2009 2:27 pm ET

An eye for an eye? Why would you do that when he can see what he did and feel sorry instead of feeling hatered and anger in him. A verse from the bible says Vengance is mine so let god take care of it so it would not be your wish of how to punish him

kadin   February 24th, 2009 3:42 pm ET

it is evil to through acid in someones eye when they rejected you
i think he should be thrown into jail .

ps they should shoot him instead

Waylon   February 24th, 2009 3:51 pm ET

I think it is very wrong to throw acid at people, however two wrongs dont make a right. he should go to jail though

Leigh Anne   February 24th, 2009 3:56 pm ET

If the woman attacked would like that to happen then so be it it should happen. But if I remember correctly she didn't want that to happen. He should atleast pay a small fine.

Leigh Anne   February 24th, 2009 3:58 pm ET

An eye for an eye only leaves the world blinded

shawanda   February 24th, 2009 4:00 pm ET

dear carl,
i think that the attacker should get what he desereves saying that he should get acid in his face and then thrown in jail for a lifetime !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Anatolio and Andrea   February 24th, 2009 4:48 pm ET

I think the women is wrong there's some other ways to punish him like giving him prison and she should get some money she can get a surgery
he should be forgiven.

I think the man should go to jail but, they should put in his eyes to fill what the woman feels and look like.

Antonio   February 24th, 2009 4:48 pm ET

I thing that woman is wrong that is not human. i thing that the man should go to hell with out the opportunity of see the light of the sun.

Eduardo and Juan   February 24th, 2009 4:52 pm ET

Eduardo=I think that the man have to be blank because he did that the woman is like that and I think that she doesn't have to for give him.

Juan=What I think what the man did to the woman I think the should pay back.

Tara-Torie-Abbles-Mikayla   February 24th, 2009 6:00 pm ET

We honestly do think a "eye for a eye" would be best. We were saying that it would be wrong but yet its the best chose. The woman was harrasted by this man, and she didnt want to marry him so he poured liqiud acid on her face. Thats not right, we think its sick and cruel. Best wishes for the woman!

Anne   February 24th, 2009 6:06 pm ET

two wrongs don't make a right !✌!

Ofelia   February 24th, 2009 7:08 pm ET

His punishment should be just in its severity, though two wrongs do not make a right.

shawanda   February 24th, 2009 9:35 pm ET

i think that he should get what he deserves as in he should get acid in
his face and be thrown in jail for a lifetime

Esther   February 24th, 2009 9:43 pm ET

i think that doing what he did to her deserves an equal response/punishment. He deserves to get his eyes taken away because he cause her great pain and he deserves to feel it aswell.

Wes   February 25th, 2009 1:27 pm ET

I do not think that the man should be severely punished by having acid thrown in his face. I do however think he should be punished. I also believe that the victim should have taken the "blood money". An appropriate punishment would be life in prison.

Nohely   February 25th, 2009 5:52 pm ET

The fact that her boyfriend threw acid in her face because she turned down his proposal is absolutly horrid. Who does that? I think it was right to blind him too. He left that woman blind for the rest of her life and she went through agony! So he can go suffer through what he put her through.

kcin   February 25th, 2009 7:46 pm ET

I think that the guy should get acid in his face and he should be in jail for life

Gabby   February 25th, 2009 10:16 pm ET

No, he shouldn't be blinded, I mean, find other ways to punish him but if you blind him you will stoop to his level.

Cassidy   February 25th, 2009 10:55 pm ET

I think that the man SHOULD loose his sight because when he had that acid he knew exactly what he was doing.

Brianna   February 26th, 2009 7:47 am ET

I think they should do to him what he did to her. he should feel her pain!!!

Katie   February 26th, 2009 7:58 am ET

If she put acid in his face, it wouldn't prevent him from doing it again, it would just make him mad and want to do it again.

Randall   February 26th, 2009 10:13 am ET

I think that the guy would deserve to get blinded just like he did to her. It would have to be really upsetting to be that women. What if she liked to play videogames but can't now because she can't see what she is doing. It would only be fair if they did that to him.

Caroline   February 26th, 2009 10:32 am ET

In most situations, the idea of eye for an eye is unexceptable. In this situation, it is totally exceptable. The attacker had no reason to blind this woman with acid, causing her tramendous pain, and disfiguration. To protect other girls from this person, who obviously has an issue in mental thinking, he should be blinded. He needs a taste of his own medicine.

Charlie   February 26th, 2009 12:41 pm ET

The dood deserves to be killed in the electric chair.

Charlie   February 26th, 2009 12:43 pm ET

I think the punishment should be very cruel because what he did was more than cruel.

Lily   February 26th, 2009 1:29 pm ET

I think that the guy that had thrown acid in the lady's face needs to go to prison because if he cant figure out what no means hes scyco!

jerm   February 26th, 2009 2:03 pm ET

an eye for an eye is a savaege thing to do but he should see a consequece but not as hurtful as the one he done every body desver tohave second chance

Natalie   February 26th, 2009 2:04 pm ET

well if that was me who got blind from acid, i would get my revenge by blinding the person who blinded me with acid because if it happend to me then it should happen to the person that blinded me.

Chloe   February 26th, 2009 3:44 pm ET

If you can dish it, you should be able to take it.
I agree with her.

janet   February 26th, 2009 6:10 pm ET

i think the guy should not get blinded for he cruel act, but i think he should get a really bad punishment for the rest of his life, because the lady that got acid in her eyes will be blind for life!

Ariel   February 26th, 2009 6:17 pm ET

I think having him blinded like her is a little to harsh. She should have taken his eyes to use as her own. Then, its fair. Crime pays.

Christy   February 26th, 2009 7:48 pm ET

i think they should do it so he knows how it feels and what he put her through i think he should to because it is not right for someone to lose something like that it is not fair

Ashleigh   February 26th, 2009 11:31 pm ET

I believe that the eye-for-an-eye is completely reasonable. Too bad she can't see it though.

Dezmund   February 26th, 2009 11:36 pm ET

I think he should be able to pick between acid thrown on your face or life in prison they are both harrsh punishments

TASHIRA♥   February 27th, 2009 9:38 am ET

WHY WOULD SOMEONE BLIND SOMEONE ELSE WITH ACID AND THOUGHT THEY WERE GOING TO GET AWAY WITH IT...ANYWAYS I WOULD'VE GAVE HIM DEATH ROLL BECAUSE WHAT GOES AROUND COMES AROUND...DUCES♥

Wendy   February 27th, 2009 11:15 am ET

whatever, the man should go to jail, even a life imprisonment.he has to get a lecture ! Also, i think the woman is pretty poor, she lost her beautiful out -look ! - girl from Taiwan (( Grace's

Markeesha   February 27th, 2009 11:38 am ET

I think she should find another way to punish him, like jail for life, rather than blinding him like he blinded her. But if my spouse had blinded me, I would probably be just as mad as her, if not more. I can also see her reasoning about how she doesn't want that happening to any other woman, but what other woman would like him in the first place if they knew he blinded her?

Joel   February 27th, 2009 12:14 pm ET

I think the punishment is fair. He should feel the pain he put the women through. I hope he learned his lesson.

Josh   February 27th, 2009 1:17 pm ET

Its hard to decide what punishment to give someone who has affected and deformed someone probably for the rest of their life because it never really makes things right, but i still think the women will make the best of it. i think that the attacker should pay a large fine to the women and be required to work with people who have disabilities for about a year and see how hard their lives are and how hard he made this womens life
(in my opinion)

Alex   February 27th, 2009 1:19 pm ET

I think the lady should get eye for eye.I think it was wrong for what the guy did because now the lady cant see

DERIK   February 27th, 2009 1:20 pm ET

I think the guy should have to pay for what he did. He should pay the blood money and some time in jail.

laura   February 27th, 2009 1:22 pm ET

i think that the man should get acid in his face because what he did to the lady. Also i think that she should get more out off because she went through a hard time and she deserve more than just eye for and eye. i feel sorry for the lady because she cant see at all.

zach   February 27th, 2009 4:30 pm ET

i think it is wrong two wrongs don't make a right

Trevor   February 27th, 2009 5:13 pm ET

Well, I think the concept is great! He should receive the same punishment as Ameneh did. His act was cruel and melicious. But if this was done in the US, I don't know how that would go over the American people. We will think it is cruel and in-humaine. But, it would most likely drastically drop our increasing crime rate here. . .

Kayla   February 27th, 2009 7:33 pm ET

I dont think that should be the attackers punishment. i would take the blood money, because i mean come on he's paying it... not the government

Madison   February 28th, 2009 12:12 am ET

I think he should get acid in his face, what he did was wrong and he should feel the pain that woman went through, the pain he caused her.

callie   February 28th, 2009 10:00 am ET

All I have to say is wow!!! Isn't there a law out there that is half way decent?? I mean come on this isn't sweet revenge, the guy should be handled the proper way.

Emile   February 28th, 2009 10:02 am ET

I don't think it's fair to throw acid in someone elses face just because they did it to you. He should be punished, but not to that degree.

Johnathon   February 28th, 2009 5:28 pm ET

I think that the court should ultamitely decide the factors to sentence and carry out the punishment. I mean, isn't that why we have the judicial branch?

Joshua   February 28th, 2009 8:44 pm ET

In Christian tradition, an "eye for an eye," and "tooth for a tooth" are obsolete and no longer applicable is it was in the Old Testament of the Bible. Paraphrasing, Jesus said that if you are afflicted don't seek revenge. The wicked will have their reward. I think a money fine is the best punishment in this case.

Diondra   March 1st, 2009 12:07 am ET

I do think he should of been blinded back, but that shouldn't have been his only punushment. I think he should've paid blood money too because not only did he leave her blind but she also has bills from surgery to pay.

Juan   March 1st, 2009 10:26 am ET

I think Ameneh's attacker should be blinded or at least be put through the same pain she suffered to teach other would be attackers what the consequences will be

Jaclene   March 1st, 2009 3:38 pm ET

I would tell the police.

Ian   March 2nd, 2009 7:35 am ET

I would want to get back at the attacker. But I believe that jail is the answer.

Jess   March 2nd, 2009 7:00 pm ET

Blinding someone back isn't going to solve anything.. except teach a person problems should be solved with violence. He mad a huge mistake but she should set an example and not do it back to him.

Nicole   March 2nd, 2009 7:04 pm ET

I think that it the attacker should also be blinded. He ruined that woman's life and he should feel the pain that he inflicted upon her.

Maddie   March 3rd, 2009 12:45 pm ET

I think that throwing acid back in his face was not very humane. I'm sure that police could have came up with a better way to punish the attacker. Even though acid in the eyes was better revenge for the victom, jail would have probevly been a better choice.

Rocki♥   March 3rd, 2009 1:51 pm ET

i thinkkkkk that ideassss GOOD....
soo he knows wat he did and how the lady felt.
hope they do.

Bailey   March 3rd, 2009 2:25 pm ET

I understand why she feels that way, and I think it is the right thing to do, in fact, I think that should be the case with all murder cases, even though this wasn't one. If you kill someone, thats your punishment. Gives a whole new meaning to "Life Or Death Situation."

Annie(:   March 3rd, 2009 2:41 pm ET

that's a scary situation
i would cry alot(:

Millie   March 3rd, 2009 2:52 pm ET

I think that he should get what he deserves.

- Millie

Katie   March 3rd, 2009 5:20 pm ET

I believe that making him pay by being blinded is wrong. True, he did it to her, but two wrongs don't make a right. Take the money, then forgive and forget. I know it will be hard, but try to do the right thing. That's what I would do.

sophia   March 4th, 2009 1:51 pm ET

I think by doing that she is no better than him because she is doing the same thing! :(

Hazel   March 4th, 2009 5:29 pm ET

Even though she disclaims it, it sounds a lot like she is trying to get revenge. It makes sence that she would too because her pride in her big brown eyes suddenly was made void. If blinding him should be allowed, so should the concept of kindergardeners punching back at their bullies.

Riley   March 4th, 2009 9:31 pm ET

What would we be teaching people if we did this? That if someone does someting mean to you, you can do that to them? The people hearing these stories are the future leaders of our countries and if we teach them that is the way to solve problems what is the world going to end up like?

Pheobe   March 4th, 2009 10:06 pm ET

I agree with Hazel.

choichi   March 4th, 2009 10:21 pm ET

i think that is absurd and insane... the woman MUST be psychotic to ask for someething like that....

Amanda   March 5th, 2009 5:07 pm ET

I dont think thats right becaus eshe didnt do anything wrong....

KAYLA   March 6th, 2009 3:08 pm ET

I believe in an eye for an eye.Because i feel that if you kill someone you should die also. No one should do anything that they would not want done to them.

Ally   March 6th, 2009 8:59 pm ET

I dont think they should but I am kinda caught it would be a punishment but even if they did blind him its notlike the other person could ee again

Chris   March 6th, 2009 9:46 pm ET

I think that if you are going to harm someone that you should be punished in the way you hurt the person.

Austyn   March 9th, 2009 9:28 am ET

I think Ameneh Bahrami should choose what happens to this man! If she chooses to do nothing fine with me. What i think she should do is throw acid in his eyes. FEEL HOW SHE IS GOING TO FEEL FOR A LONG TIME! What i have learned from all of these blogs is hey just because your girlfriend dumped you don't throw acid in their eyes!!!
:) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :)

Roy   March 9th, 2009 3:10 pm ET

i think he should have his eye taken out and give it to her

Peyton   March 11th, 2009 11:17 am ET

I don't think people should have more school because it would not be fair to the children or the parents of the child.

Mia   March 12th, 2009 12:15 pm ET

NO. that is not a good idea at all. Students already think six hours a day, 5 days a week is long enough. Kids like summer and having a little more freedom.

Anthony   March 16th, 2009 9:23 pm ET

I do not think that Ameneh Bahrami's attacker should receive a more harsh punishment then what happened to her, an attacker put acid in her eyes. In the United States we do not have an Eye for an Eye policy and it would be better for other countries to not have an Eye for an Eye policy, it is just not right. I do not think that the attacker should have to pay "bloody money" or get a harsher punishment. I think that Ameneh's attacker should be put in some sort of prison to serve for what he has done. In my opinion this is the best punishment to give to the attacker. I hope that whatever happens to the attacker this cruel act will teach many a lesson in life.

Joschuah   March 18th, 2009 4:24 pm ET

I think that being able to pay someone off for a crime you have committed against them is rediculous! She didnt die, so the death penalty isnt neccessary. He should be tried for attempted murder and whatever assult charges that were violated. Two wrongs don't make a right either, so burning his eyes blind with acid would not prove a good point.
