Roads without Cell Phones

Posted: 09:49 PM ET

It's hard to imagine, considering the number of people I pass on a daily basis who are driving and talking on the phone.  Today, I asked a group of folks - all daily commuters - to raise a hand if they'd never used a cell phone while driving.  Not one hand (including mine) went up.

Is talking on a phone while driving more dangerous?  Sure.  Are some people better at it than others?  Yes.  But the interesting question here is whether the government can outlaw an action that we're already used to living with - and more than 80 percent of Americans say they've done.

Could you drive without EVER using the phone?

I think it would be impossible to drive without using a phone, EVER. I mean, what if you got an urgent call. Would you just let it ring?

jesse   January 13th, 2009 10:18 pm ET

i think you shouldn't drive wile texting . you can die from it . when you text you look at your cellphone & not the rode.

Helen   January 13th, 2009 11:25 pm ET

I can understand answering calls while driving,
but when texting comes into play – it get's dangerous.
As well as when your phone isn't in easy reach,
and you have to dig in your pocket or purse.
It happens to my dad all the time, and I'm like,
"Dad, just take it out of your pocket
and put it in the cup holder when you get in the car."
Of course he never remembers to do it.

Joyce&Joycelin   January 13th, 2009 11:40 pm ET

(We watched the video 1minute after it was updated. COOL!)
EVER? We can promise you we won't talk on the phone much when we'll be driving. But never doing it is kind of going too far.
Urgent calls, important messages..you've got to get that wouldn't you?
Just a ban would be lokay, but total bans might not work well.
If we ever use the phone behind the wheel, it'll be either when we're parked, or using those earplug things.
We won't be cellphon maniacs

Cindy   January 13th, 2009 11:45 pm ET

Nope. Either it's only sometimes or hopely I'll have a chauffeur up the front.

Liss   January 13th, 2009 11:48 pm ET

A total ban would make people go bananas!
Even you Carl

Rachel   January 13th, 2009 11:51 pm ET

I would want my safety more than chatting time.
I'll try not to use it but sometimes, might be breaking the ban.
I want a ban but i think that a total ban is just impossible in the US

Clouder   January 13th, 2009 11:54 pm ET

Those people are being way too mean
it isn't that bad
i protest to a total ban and i tell you, the BAN will take away some lives.

Natalie   January 14th, 2009 12:05 am ET

A complete ban? Now, I don't drive, yet, but I think some people may not like that. What if it's an etremely important call? I think earphones are better, but people need to quickly put the earphone in their ear and in the cell phone first. I think that may result in more car crashes.

Angelina   January 14th, 2009 12:06 am ET

My cousin turns her phone off when she gets into the car so she doesn't get distracted... I think all people should do that!

Trevor   January 14th, 2009 12:21 am ET

I feel that people who had not had their licence for at least two years should not be able to talk and drive. That way, at least you would feel more comfortable driving after some experience.

Joyce   January 14th, 2009 3:08 am ET

Not using a phone behind a wheel EVER?
Mabey not actually holding the phone , then you only have
one hand on the wheel.
But I think earphones or blutoothes are okay.
Even if that law DOES exist, I doubt that all Americans will
fallow that law.

David   January 14th, 2009 3:48 am ET

Using Cell phones while driving is something that teens have to do sometimes. As long as you're being responsible with your calls and not talk for extended periods of time. If my somebody calls to find out where I am, I am still going to pick up whether its illegeal or not.

CC   January 14th, 2009 7:47 am ET

My mom sometimes talks on her phone while driving, but when she starts, it's hard to get her off.

simon   January 14th, 2009 7:52 am ET

my mom wont stop talking on her phone when she is driving. I have to take her phone away and make the call myself. it gets really annoying. its too distracting. they should be banned

Cheyenne   January 14th, 2009 8:04 am ET

i honestly think that they shouldnt band cell phones because if they do i think that nobody will follow it at all. Because cell phpones are very popular and that since they are so popular they shouldnt band them!

Jo   January 14th, 2009 8:05 am ET

I would never drive while talking on a cellphone. It's dangerous, it's bad, it's stupid! A total stranger who was talking on her cellphone crashed into my mailbox! But of course she had a different "believable" story about. Two other people in cars double teamed her on the road. Give me a BREAK!

Nihar   January 14th, 2009 8:06 am ET

I think that people should be allowed to use their cell phones but only when the car is not moving at all.

Nihar   January 14th, 2009 8:09 am ET

having a bluetooth would work much better because you wouldn't be shuffling around or taking your eyes of the road.

Tabitha   January 14th, 2009 8:26 am ET

Talking with cell phones is stupid, but its okay when you have on a headset. There is no reason to take that away.

Asami   January 14th, 2009 8:33 am ET

I'm live in Japan.
And Japan already ban to use cell phone while driving.
I think it is good choice cos at least we have some traffic jam becuse of cell phone.
Nowly almost Japanese peole are having cell phone. And young peole are riding bicycle instead of car. That time we are using cell phone.
Also this act is danger. So near future it may be ban also while driving bicycles.

israel   January 14th, 2009 8:38 am ET

i dont think that people should use cellphones while driveing because there's been a lot of accidents since the past few years because people were using the phone and werent paying atention to the road!xD!

carolina   January 14th, 2009 8:39 am ET

I think that a cell phone ban would probably not be a good idea because people would still we using them

Mr.Panamarczuk 1st Block; 7th grade class   January 14th, 2009 8:40 am ET

One word – Bluetooth
Text on the road can kill people, and talking can too, but if someone had Bluetooth you could keep your hands on the wheel and still be able to talk, of course that can distract you from the road so...

P.S. Great hair carl!!!!:)

Pete   January 14th, 2009 8:42 am ET

I think you can drive without cell phones you just need to make dead zones in places where there is alot of traffic.

JAMMERIA   January 14th, 2009 8:43 am ET

I THINK THAT THAT IS STUPID.WHAT IF ITS A EMERGENCY .THEY REALY CANT DO THAT!WHY DO YOU THINK A PERSON BUY A PHONE?TO USE IT!!!!

Mr.Panamarczuk class   January 14th, 2009 8:45 am ET

A junior girl got killed in an accident because the driver was texting and a lot of us and our siblings knew her, so texting on the road is wrong!!!!:'(

Matt   January 14th, 2009 8:53 am ET

Well,Carl,it's hard to say that talking on a phone while driving,is absolutely addicting. I think that it should be allowed to talk on handsfree, like bluetooth. However, texting on the otherhand,is horribleeeee. I mean, you're not even looking at the road.

(:

Caswell   January 14th, 2009 9:08 am ET

it would be alot safer with useing a cellphone but what if you have the speaker thingy........

Kiera   January 14th, 2009 9:09 am ET

I dont think i could ever drive without a cell phone because i might need it in case i get lost or have an emergency?????

samuel   January 14th, 2009 9:10 am ET

I think that it is dumb to ban cell phones because if you get in an axident you can have a phone to call for help

josh   January 14th, 2009 9:15 am ET

thats is so wrong if someone needs to talk to someone about an emergency booooooooooooooooooooooooooooo.

Ben   January 14th, 2009 9:25 am ET

I would say no because my dad is a truck driver and he needs to use it to call my mom because she books his loads and he also calls her for direction on how to get where ever he is going

Laura   January 14th, 2009 9:33 am ET

No, my Poppy would though.

akash   January 14th, 2009 9:39 am ET

i think they just are pushing it to far

Kenny   January 14th, 2009 9:43 am ET

I can't drive yet but I think we should be able to talk on cellphones. What if it's an important call? Maybe It is dangerous but they still should let you do it sometimes.

Devon   January 14th, 2009 9:51 am ET

i am here for a change

Devon   January 14th, 2009 9:52 am ET

Imposible .without cell phones we would go nowhere

jane   January 14th, 2009 9:56 am ET

i think that the should one outlaw texting because there is specker phone and everything so it is easy and not that dangerous because most people drive with one hand anyways

Matthew   January 14th, 2009 9:59 am ET

I think we should have horse and cart and can and a string.

christina   January 14th, 2009 10:05 am ET

i think people should be able to use a phone

christina   January 14th, 2009 10:08 am ET

u could have an emergency while u are driving

cameron   January 14th, 2009 10:17 am ET

i think that you should be able to use it because this is a free country.

Mr. Tegen's Class   January 14th, 2009 10:33 am ET

We believe that cells are used for emergency in some situations that needs assistance. For instance, 911, flat tires, and mechnical work. Also, we believe that if they banned cells phones other things should be banned, such as, eating and driving or applyng make-up while driving. These are safety risk. Hey Azuz you didnt tell us how you felt.

grant   January 14th, 2009 10:38 am ET

i think that was a good choice for the people but it can be bad when they need there phone when there is some thing wrong with their job or family

alex   January 14th, 2009 10:41 am ET

It will be impossible to not drive without cell phones. Everybody loves to drive and talk at the same time. I think if this law gets past everybody is going to get a ticket. I think that no texting in the car is a good idea but no talking in a car that is crazy, crazy I tell you.

kris and dominique   January 14th, 2009 10:49 am ET

i think its stupid we should be able to talk and drive if the government bought the cell phones they could ban it........carl you rock!!!!!!!!

cannon and brown   January 14th, 2009 10:52 am ET

i think its stupid we should be able to talk and drive if the government bought the cell phones they could ban it........carl you rock

Junya   January 14th, 2009 11:02 am ET

In Japan, hand-held phone is banned while we are driving because
using a cell phone causes car accident.
I used to use a cell phone before its law started.
But I realised that I couldn't concentrate to drive. Try to drive with a cell phone. You will understand its danger!!!

Michaeld   January 14th, 2009 11:04 am ET

Cell phones should only be used for emergency problems. Texting and talking on the phone should be illegal. And Carl you are a way better dancer.

:Leslie   January 14th, 2009 11:35 am ET

I Think that it is crazy and insan I love cellphones

Mr. Essex 3rd Period Geography   January 14th, 2009 11:58 am ET

In some rural areas talking on your cell phone and driving are not as hazardous as in the larger cities. However in both cases texting and driving should be banned.

jasmine   January 14th, 2009 12:16 pm ET

carl you did ur ting but dont ever do it ever agin

kevin   January 14th, 2009 12:36 pm ET

absolutely not taking cell phones a way. use a hands off or a bluetooth.

Teacher Nicci's Class, East Mesa Juvenile Detention Facility   January 14th, 2009 12:38 pm ET

Most of us agree with the cell phone ban. Talking on the cell phone causes people to crash and die. Also, people should not use cell phones because innocent people might be hurt by drivers useing cell phones. Even if one person is saved from banning cell phone use then it is worth it. Some of our class believes the cell phone ban in not fair. If police are allowed to use phones and computers then regular citizens should be allowed the same rights.

Sabec   January 14th, 2009 12:48 pm ET

I will understand that my neihbor got paralyzed for textin while driving

Mr. Whang's class   January 14th, 2009 12:52 pm ET

Sweet~! Driving with cellphones is a nuisance - let's get back to the good ol' days with cruising down the streets.

Brett   January 14th, 2009 12:57 pm ET

I do not think that I could actual drive forever without answering a cell phone or calling anybody, I mean what if it is an urgent call or just someone you want to talk to what will you do then? Answer or leave it?

Matthew   January 14th, 2009 1:03 pm ET

It really depends on where your mind is whle driving. So if you are wearing a Bluetooth, u are still in danger. I am leaning towards the ban.

Cascade High School - Algebra Class   January 14th, 2009 1:10 pm ET

Half of our class thinks that drivers should be able to use their cell phones if they have a hands free device, such as Bluetooth. The other half believe that your concentration is not interrupted if you are on the phone, so people should be able to have them in the car.

What about the people who read or write while they are driving??? How can the government make a rule about cell phones and not consider the other distractions!

nssphoenix   January 14th, 2009 1:16 pm ET

Whats the point if they ban it? people are just then going to use bluetooths.

Elizabeth   January 14th, 2009 1:19 pm ET

If I could drive I couldn't go without my cell phone. Even now, when I can't drive, I have my phone with me 24/7.

Karisa   January 14th, 2009 1:21 pm ET

I could resist myself from talking on a cell phone. I think that if it's really that important you can pull over and talk on the side of the road. Cell phones are a major cause of car accidents so I don't think they should be used.

Brianna   January 14th, 2009 1:21 pm ET

I think people should be able to talk on the phone while driving. But, I do not think that they should text while they're driving, because you have to pay more attention to the phone and letters than the road.

Ashley   January 14th, 2009 1:22 pm ET

If I were old enough to drive i surely wouldn't like that law. It might be safer but not alot of people would like that law. And a complete ban of all cell phone use in the U.S. would be kind of over exaggerating.

parker   January 14th, 2009 1:23 pm ET

People that text wall they are driving end up CRASHING !! OR END UP DIEING

Logan   January 14th, 2009 1:24 pm ET

I think that a road with know cell phone would be dumb because what would happen if u got lost and u needed help u could call but without that option u would just stay lost forever. Then also what if someone needed to call 911 they wouldn't be able to because they wouldn't have a phone to call on. If u ban cell phones don't make blue tooth banned because that is technically a hands- free device.

Katie   January 14th, 2009 1:24 pm ET

i agree with this ban. I think that there is way to many accidents from cellphones. I also feel that some of those calls are actually important though instead of just chatting to your friend about going shopping Saturday.

Grace   January 14th, 2009 1:25 pm ET

Umm I don't get this law at all...if you use a bluetooth your not using your hands or your eyes so... I don't know I just don't get why bluetooth's would be banned. Also what if you had an important call, maybe about your job or family members.

austin   January 14th, 2009 1:31 pm ET

i wouldnt use a cellphone when im driving i could crash and not no it but the people that do use them are making a very bad choice me if i had a call coming in i would see if there was somewhere to park and then i would answer it but if there was no where to park and if there were traffic then i wouldnt answer and i woulds keep going i would return there call when i had available time this is a smart thing to do cause if some people dont do these kinds of things then they might end up in a accident and some lifes could be taken this is very serious stuff

Mrs. Squires' Math Class Core 2   January 14th, 2009 1:57 pm ET

After a vote, 1 out of 30 students say you shouldn't be able to use your phone while driving. After discussion, many students changed their minds and said it depends on the situation. We believe texting isn't cool while driving but using your bluetooth is better than holding your phone while talking and driving.

Mr. junkins class   January 14th, 2009 1:57 pm ET

i think they should not ban it but allow you to use bluetooth devices because they are safer

Kyle   January 14th, 2009 2:03 pm ET

you should just drive

Danielle   January 14th, 2009 2:06 pm ET

I think it is dangerous, though I do not think that the government should stop it totally because like it said, people are already to living life doing that. Many people will be very angry if they government decides to ban all cell phone use on the road.

Michael   January 14th, 2009 2:07 pm ET

I don't think that cell phone use in the car can be outlawed completely. I think restrictions should be put on it, but many people need to be able to communicate with others while driving.

Mazin   January 14th, 2009 2:08 pm ET

driving wtih cellphones is a health hassard but is needed. If I had to chose I would only restrict it on highways and very crowded roads.

josh   January 14th, 2009 2:09 pm ET

Personally, I don;t drive at the moment, but from what i am concerned I would almost need to talk on the cell phone at times. Overall i dont think it is nessacary to make a law that you cannot use a celluar device while in the car.

Alexis   January 14th, 2009 2:13 pm ET

I think that banning the use of cell phones while driving is a little harsh. I mean sure it's not the safest thing, but if they banned cell phone use, I think people wouldn't be able to cooperate.

meghan   January 14th, 2009 2:19 pm ET

I DON'T DRIVE, IM ONLY 14 BUT IF I COULD THEY SHOULDNT OUTLAW SOMETHING EVERYONE DOES.....

Jessica   January 14th, 2009 2:20 pm ET

I think that they shouldn't make it law because what if your child starts calling you and you probably wouldn't be ingorning it because it could be an emarggense and you just ingored your child. i think they shouldnt make it law.

Kenny   January 14th, 2009 2:20 pm ET

I think that people that only need cell phones on the road should be able to use them. Some people are always traveling in a car for work and can only communicate by talking on their cell phones. Those people should be able to use their cell phones. Other people who are just talking shouldn't because its not very important.

james   January 14th, 2009 2:21 pm ET

i think they could band txting but not talking on the phone.

Kyle   January 14th, 2009 2:21 pm ET

Without cell phones we can't talk to anyone while on the road. In other words it's like telling us we can't drink anything at a spicy restaurant.

Trevor   January 14th, 2009 2:22 pm ET

To me this is crazy, this will get no where. Mostly everyone has a cell phone and you might as well use it when you want. I don't think it is going to cause a accident or anything. What if people have a emergency and need a cell phone to call someone? This is a horrible idea.

Megan   January 14th, 2009 2:23 pm ET

i think that maybe if they really need to, just limit the amount of time you talk on the phone while driving. it is dangerous but really when your driving like two hours home and the whole time you are on your phone.

Tyler   January 14th, 2009 2:24 pm ET

I think it's bad being on the phone while driving, I tell my mom to stop talking on it when we're driving. I don't think a national law should be passed, in case of an emergency.

Ruksaar   January 14th, 2009 2:30 pm ET

I think that u should be able to either have a blue tooth to your ears or i guess no cell phone if it become a law there should be an area for which if having an emergency u could have a blue tooth.

Mrs. Bolton's Class   January 14th, 2009 2:31 pm ET

It is probably dangerous, but most of us will still talk on our phones while driving. We feel that elderly drivers are more dangerous to the public and should be required to take driving tests every 5 years after the age of 65.

Kelly   January 14th, 2009 2:33 pm ET

Well, driving and talking on the phone at the same time is dangerous… at least more dangerous than just driving, but I think that using bluetooth is fine and not as distracting as texting defiantly, you’re not even looking at the road while you text. But I think that if the government bans all cell phone use… some people are going to get really mad. I think that if they put a ban on phones in the car, just like speeding, most people will ignore it.

Essence   January 14th, 2009 2:33 pm ET

I think that the should not outlaw cellphones on the road because it you need help on the road you could call for help.

kate   January 14th, 2009 2:36 pm ET

I think some people could drive without a phone, but people who are very social might not be able to because i would not be able to not talk on the phone.

Maheen   January 14th, 2009 2:40 pm ET

I think that texting is the most dangerous and no one should do it but talking on the phone is ok because you can always use a bluetooth headset since both your hands would be on the wheel. Actually one time my mom drove straight into the road that was driving in the opposite direction. No one got hurt but it was still hard to get out of the situation without getting a ticket. :)

Ian   January 14th, 2009 2:47 pm ET

i think its a god idea to and to much people are geting hurt or dying so i think they should band it in every state

Mongo   January 14th, 2009 2:55 pm ET

My parents say I am too iresponsible for a phone,so I obviosly cant talk on the phone while driving, but next year when i get my license,I bet there will be plenty of STUPID people that will talk on there phones whiledrving and serioslu injure or kill them or someone else

Mrs Eastmans 8th Grade Class   January 14th, 2009 2:57 pm ET

We think that there are times that using a cell phone while driving is important so a total ban on using them would not make sense. What if there is an emergency and someone is trying to get a hold of you?

Mary   January 14th, 2009 3:09 pm ET

Carl, we just can't let some crazy texting drivers run you over, now can we?

Jenna   January 14th, 2009 3:17 pm ET

I think my parents could live without talking on the phone while driving, they didn't text ever until I told them how, much less do it while driving. I think its just stupid to be texting on a cell phone when you should be focusing on the traffic lights.

Cameron   January 14th, 2009 3:33 pm ET

I think that you shouldn't text while driving because your eyes are on the phone and not the road, but I think it is okay to talk on the phone while driving because you're not looking at the phone, you are looking ahead.

Hunter   January 14th, 2009 3:35 pm ET

I can't drive yet, and it's making me CRAZY! You never know when it's important, urgent, or an emergency, so why put a total ban? It would be usefull for using a BlueTooth headset, but there are people who can't aford it. I say no, for the ban.

Russell   January 14th, 2009 3:49 pm ET

I would use the phone while driving, but i would pay attention to the road while talking

heather   January 14th, 2009 4:10 pm ET

the law i would make is to not beable to text but you should be able to talk or they could put phones in the car like onstar

Makenzie   January 14th, 2009 4:24 pm ET

I dont have my licence yet but i do have a cell phone and i think i might be able to but probobly not im a very talkitive person

kelsy   January 14th, 2009 4:34 pm ET

I think that if you aren't using it for practical uses, then you shouldn't be able to use it.

Carlos   January 14th, 2009 4:50 pm ET

That is crazy and I don't have a cell phone yet. It is impossible because there can be car accidents.

cullen   January 14th, 2009 4:55 pm ET

Americans are so used to using cell phones while driving that most of them would most likely break the new law and besides i bet that most of the people in congress also do it so it is useless to try to get a law passed to ban cell phone use.

Kira   January 14th, 2009 5:09 pm ET

Driving without a cell phone is like the cnn student news without Carl. We need it, What if someone is in trouble or if someone is in need of help at a hospital and no one can talk on the phone while driving. Stick to what we have had cell phone on the road. I dont even have my licence.

julian   January 14th, 2009 5:25 pm ET

what about the people who have speaker phone..............and Carl DON'T DANCE!

bailee   January 14th, 2009 5:27 pm ET

i would rather hang up the phone then get in a car crash because of the phone

Dalia   January 14th, 2009 5:29 pm ET

I dont have a cell phone or licence, but I do know its wrong and alot of have died, we shouldnt have more.

Erica   January 14th, 2009 5:29 pm ET

I think that they should be able to talk because they might be in trouble. But I'm guessing (no offence Carl) you get in trouble a lot!!!

Kobie and McKenna   January 14th, 2009 5:36 pm ET

We can not drive yet but we think that people should not text but be able to call as long as are focusing on the road and not the phone!
ps. We are Carl Azuz' number one fans!

Veronica   January 14th, 2009 5:36 pm ET

I don't think you should drive and use a cell phone at the same time. Teens really should be careful while driving with a phone. Most teen accident occur because of cell phone use in a car. Well if you don't agree with me, just drive safely!! I love you Carl.

tomye   January 14th, 2009 5:38 pm ET

coulld you even imagine this world without people on the cell phone!? of course its wrong but if you think if you make a law that it wont happen youve got it all wrong!!

Alex   January 14th, 2009 5:47 pm ET

What if it was an emergency???
what if someone in the car was dying and the person behind the wheel was the only other person in the car???

Zoe   January 14th, 2009 5:48 pm ET

I think that if you really need to talk to someone its ok to call them as long as it isnt just a casual talk that you might have with your best friend! but texting is NOT ok to do while you are driving!!! Although you think it might make you cool, its not you could be putting your life on the line!!!!!

Lafonda   January 14th, 2009 5:52 pm ET

Users who talk on the phone react 200 milliseconds slower. So hey? If you don't wanna get into an accident, I suggest you stop using your cellphone unless its an emergancy.

John   January 14th, 2009 6:22 pm ET

Minnesota already has a texting ban soI'm just used to it.. I think it is a good idea. It would save some lives and also the law allows texting if there is an emergency. I'm sure that if the ban ever goes in effect, it will allow for emergency texting.

MIKEY   January 14th, 2009 6:25 pm ET

I think that they shouldn't ban cell phones while driving because it will teach the driver a lesson if they get into an accident.

Cody   January 14th, 2009 6:27 pm ET

I think driving while talking on a phone is dangerous and makes alot of people mad when someone is going 10 miles an hour after pulling out in front of you so cell phones are bad but good in an emergency.
It would be hard for someone to make a decision to band cell phones because they could also save your life.

John   January 14th, 2009 6:31 pm ET

Carl I can tell you I have been driving for 2 years, yes I am a teen. I believe you should never use a cell phone when driving. If the government can ban Cigarettes then they should ban cell phone use when a person is driving. I have never and never will use a cell phone when I drive.

josie   January 14th, 2009 6:36 pm ET

if people keep getting in a crash, maybe we should ban cell phones.

ali.   January 14th, 2009 6:46 pm ET

If it was for my saftey and the people around me i'm pretty sure that I would just leave it until i get to the place im going or until i pull over on the side of the road. Even if you have the hands free head set your mind is still on what you are talking about no about whats going on around you.

Morgan   January 14th, 2009 6:49 pm ET

I think that people can put down their cell phones for a few minutes instead of killing someone which last forever. If it is emergency you can pull on the side of the road and talk.

Katie   January 14th, 2009 7:06 pm ET

i wouldn't band useing a cell phone but at least band texting it's bad BUT I WOULDENT BAND TAKING i mean i think every one can multi task even you Carl

Amy   January 14th, 2009 7:19 pm ET

I could never imagine ever driving without a cell phone. Probably a bluetooth would work.

Silvia   January 14th, 2009 7:22 pm ET

Maybe they are dangerous, but what if there's something really important you need to tell someone? They should at least let us have bluetooth.

Caroline   January 14th, 2009 7:36 pm ET

my dad is a doctor and I play hockey. Since I have started hockey, my dad has been forced to leave work and make calls to patients while we are driving to games. In me and my dads case, I would have to quit hockey so my dad could make calls elsewhere if cellphones were band from the roads.

Rosario   January 14th, 2009 7:36 pm ET

Yes, I could handle without answering the phone while driving, but as soon as I get out of the car I'd probably grab it and check my missed calls.

Megan   January 14th, 2009 7:39 pm ET

NO WAY i have been in an accident and the person that hit us was on the cell phone i think it should be banned so no one has any thing like i experienced

Rosario   January 14th, 2009 7:42 pm ET

Carl, I would NEVER talk on the phone while driving and plus I wouldn't be able to steer with one hand and hold the phone with the other. It would be to dangerous and I don't take risks.

Sam   January 14th, 2009 7:50 pm ET

I think you can ban cell phones, but not bluetooth. With bluetooth you can sit there with BOTH hands on the wheel and not just one. Get 'er done!! 0.o

Amelia   January 14th, 2009 7:58 pm ET

I can't drive so I really don't konw the answer to that question.

Terrell   January 14th, 2009 8:04 pm ET

i dont get why they're banning blue tooth headsets if thats not using your hands or looking at the screen

Min   January 14th, 2009 8:06 pm ET

i think that there should be a certain limit of how long you can use your cell phone. Probably more than 10 minutes would be too much

angie   January 14th, 2009 8:07 pm ET

i find that they should make it a law and keep it..... they need to stay focus on the road and the cars and people on the road

Joseph   January 14th, 2009 8:26 pm ET

I think they should band talking on cell phones while driving because there are to many acciendents these days.

crystie   January 14th, 2009 8:28 pm ET

i say cell phone shouldn't be banned plus most people have blue tooths so those should at least be allowed!!!!!

Hillary   January 14th, 2009 8:31 pm ET

I think there should definitely be a ban on using the cell phone while driving. Whether it be texting or talking on it. I can't stand driving behind someone who can't do the speed limit because they're too busy texting or talking to someone on the phone. If it's that important, pull over!

matthew   January 14th, 2009 8:32 pm ET

I think it should be illegal to drive and use a cell phone while driving.
SO HANG UP AND DRIVE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Leilani   January 14th, 2009 9:03 pm ET

I HAVE THE BEST CELL IN THE WORLD!!!!!!!!!!!!!! AND I CAN'T KEEP MY HANDS OFF IT!!!!!!!!!! IT'S A VERY BAD ADDICTION THAT I JUST CAN'T BREAK!!!!!!!!!!!!! AND CARL, IM NEVER GOING TO TRY TO BREAK IT!!!!!!!!!!!! I LOVE TO USE MY CELL TOO MUCH!!!!!!!!!!! IT'S REALLY FUN TO GET YELLED AT!!!!!!!!!!! EVEN BY THE POLICE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ;)

Emily   January 14th, 2009 9:07 pm ET

Carl,

I recently heard a statistic that said using a cell phone in any capacity while driving increases your chance of death by 400%.

Minnesota, my state, bans texting for all drivers, and if you are 18 or older, you can be ticketed for talking on your cell phone.

josh   January 14th, 2009 9:07 pm ET

i think you should be allowed to talk on the phone when you are driving because what happens if it is an emergency than what can u do

Mr. Johnson's 4th Grade Class   January 14th, 2009 9:11 pm ET

As long as it's hands free it should be allowed. Otherwise you would have to outlaw switching CD's, applying your make up, even drinking a cup of coffee. All those things require you to take your hands off the wheel and your eyes off the road.

Steffeny   January 14th, 2009 9:29 pm ET

There's no way that this could ever be truly effective unless we took the other $350 billion from the bailout and put it towards increasing the amount of highway patrol and traffic cops. aka It would cost too much to enforce to be worthwhile.

Bobbette   January 14th, 2009 9:32 pm ET

Once upon a time there was no such thing as cellphones.... if we lived without them for that long, we can live without them for the 20 minute drive to the grocery store.

MARITN   January 14th, 2009 9:38 pm ET

if i could drive i would not care cause i would buy a car that would'nt have the car cell phone alarm

Jel   January 14th, 2009 9:49 pm ET

I don't think there should be a ban cell phone usage. Those who can't use their phones and drive will pay by getting in accidents, and if they ban that, why don't they ban maps and eating?

William   January 14th, 2009 10:35 pm ET

i think a road without cell phones would be safe and if they need to use it they should pull over to the side of the road

Zella   January 14th, 2009 10:38 pm ET

Never use a cell Phone while driving?!?!?!? What if there was a traffic isue on the road and you needed to tell your family that you were not able to pick up your child from swim practice, or from school. Or if your were late because you decide to work twenty mins late or lost time while you were working? Then what do you do?

Tayler   January 14th, 2009 10:41 pm ET

Carl, I think that it's ok use bluetooth devices while driving because your hands free. But I do agree that you shouldn't text or talk on you're phone when driving. My mom refuses to talk on her cellphone while driving so i don't think you should.

Sibrina   January 15th, 2009 1:36 am ET

Of course people shouldn't drive with their cell phones on AT ALL but emergancy phone calls are... You know... Emergancies...

Cassie   January 15th, 2009 4:00 am ET

I live in washington and its one of the states that you arn't allowed to be on the phone while driving, but everyone does it. I dont think it would matter either way if a law is passed saying you cant be on the phone and drive. I personally do it all the time. I use the phone while driving on a daily basis and so do most of the people i know. If a totaly cell phone law is passed i will still contuinue using my phone and so will most of the people i know. its pointless to pass a law most americans will break.

Colin   January 15th, 2009 6:55 am ET

I think TEXTING while driving is dangerous, and also USING phones while driving is dangerous too.
But hey, we live in 21st century. Infos change second from second. If you ban it you are a mile away from the present world after you drive to your work. DON'T ban it I say. Just be careful and there will be no harm.

Evan   January 15th, 2009 7:51 am ET

I believe that no one should use a cell phone while driving in any circumstances. My mom works for EMS and I have seen a picture of a man who swerved into a oncoming lane right into a tractor trailer because he was using his cell phone. Trust me it was not a pretty picture. I have even seen people who try to text and still drive. How stupid is that? Plus even if you have a Bluetooth headpiece it is still a major distraction to any driver on the road.

Aldin   January 15th, 2009 8:00 am ET

I think cell phoes should not be ban because some people have to answer while driving due to there jobs. One more reason is people just cant resist talking on the phone!

mitchel   January 15th, 2009 8:15 am ET

I think it is silly that they want to ban cell phones I understand what there trying to do but not every body is that irrisposible.

Matt   January 15th, 2009 8:26 am ET

I think it is great that they are banning cellphones from the roads it is probably one of the leading causes of deaths on the roads in the USA.

kathleen   January 15th, 2009 9:33 am ET

I think that the though of it is so mean so the people that have a different color skin.

lukas   January 15th, 2009 9:48 am ET

racism i think will always exist, but not as bad as it was back in the day, but maybe someday people will learn to accept everyone for who they are.

bridget   January 15th, 2009 9:55 am ET

I think even if that became a law some people would still use there phone because they wouldn't think they were ever going to get caught. But it is still a good law.

noelle   January 15th, 2009 10:00 am ET

Carl, i think driving when texting or talking on a cell phone is dangerous because you can get into a accident and be killed just from texting. so i think cell phone usage should be ticketed not banned

LeAndra   January 15th, 2009 10:05 am ET

I do not think you should text while driving cause you could get in a car reck then maybe you could die from it.

Josh   January 15th, 2009 10:05 am ET

Yes, I think that we shouldn't be able to use cell phones on the road. Cause they can distract other people and it causes wrecks. But then again, there could be an emergency... So maybe you should be able to use them, to a certain point.

Samantha   January 15th, 2009 10:06 am ET

I think that our parents should be able to use blutooth on the road because you don't have to hold onto the cell phone or anything like that. All our parents has to do is press the button on the blue tooth to answer the phone.

christina   January 15th, 2009 10:06 am ET

I think that cell phones are every distracting so they should be band to stop the distractions on the road where your thinking should be at.

brady   January 15th, 2009 10:07 am ET

I think that we should ban the use of cellphones. If it helps the car accident rate go down why not ban it. If the really need to use there cellphone they should just pullover for a little bit.

Anonymous   January 15th, 2009 10:39 am ET

i think driving with a phone is a huge risk hazard.
I say that a law of no cell phones while driving would be a very responsible idea.

Katie   January 15th, 2009 10:58 am ET

I don't think they should make a ban in driving while talking on the phone. It's no really fair for the people that are on the phone all the time and don't get to talk to their family.

Jacob   January 15th, 2009 11:00 am ET

I think that they should not pass a law banning the cell's. Why can't people make their own decisions? Its like why can't people be responsible for their own decisions? Though the person that they crash into can't decide, they should pay more attention (the cell phone person.) Well anyway that's my opinion.

Wyatt   January 15th, 2009 11:01 am ET

I think that we shouldn't be able to use a cell phone when driving because look at how many deaths we've had but it should'nt matter if we have a blue tooth because you don't really a phone 2 use one

Anonymous   January 15th, 2009 11:01 am ET

I personally wouldn't follow this law. But, I think that it is a good idea to a certain point. I don't know how many people would actually follow this law but maybe it is a good idea. So yeppers :)

Katey   January 15th, 2009 11:02 am ET

I'm not I'm for banning the cell phones. A lot of those government people down in D.C. are not going to be voting for that law either, because they probably talk on the cell and drive all the time. I don't drive yet, but when I do, I'm gonna be calling my friends all the time. I don't want to do it illegally!

summer   January 15th, 2009 11:02 am ET

Cell phones are such an issue! I think takeing cell phone privileges as far as you cant use them while driving is a very great idea.Honestly the way i look at it is i would rather die do to a car wreck or something natural, not because someone is too busy in their conversation to watch the road!I promise that i will pull off the road to talk on my phone, I don't want to put anyone is danger. This law should be passed!

Dana   January 15th, 2009 11:03 am ET

It doesn't make sense to have a total cell phone ban on the road. Sometimes people do need to use one. If there was an emergency, people would get in trouble for a call they had to make. I do agree that there should be a partial ban, though. Talking on a cell phone could cause an accident. People should only do it if they must.

Martha   January 15th, 2009 11:03 am ET

I think that roads without cell phones would be a lot safer. Have you ever seen the movie '7 pounds'? Well at the beginning of the movie, a guy is driving with his wife in the seat next to him. He gets a text so he pulls his phone out to read it, and he isn't paying attention so he winds up hitting a mini van and killing his wife and the family in the mini van. If we banned cell phones while behind the wheel, this might not have happened.

Hannah   January 15th, 2009 11:04 am ET

It doesn't really matter to me. It is the person's fault who did it. It is there fault that they made there life shorter.

Allison   January 15th, 2009 11:04 am ET

Driving without a cell phone is bogus. What if something were to happen to a family member or an emergency occured, then what? Yes, safety is and issue, but think beyond that point for a little bit if you would. I think that drivers should be the judge of whether or not they are responsible enough to use cell phones on the road. Isn't that what driver's training is for? We have been using cell phones while driving for a while, and I think that talking on the phone is okay, although texting or reading may be pushing the limit. To talk or not to talk... YOU be the judge.

Catherine   January 15th, 2009 11:05 am ET

I think that you shouldn't be able to use your cell phone, but if they ban all cell phones and you have a cell phone and you get in a wreck then you can call for help. Teens really should be careful while driving with a phone. Most teen accident occur because of cell phone use in a car. When you drive and talk on the cell phone it distracts you from the road.

mariah   January 15th, 2009 11:05 am ET

I think that it is okay to ban cell phones while driving because of safety issues but on the other hand blue tooth is a different story, i think that it is okay to talk on blue tooth while driving because you are not using your hand to hold a cell phone so i think that you should not ban blue tooth while driving

Kelsey   January 15th, 2009 11:05 am ET

I know a lot of people drive while talking on their cell phone. If I was old enough. I wouldn't talk on the phone just to talk on the phone, if I absolutely had to talk on the phone while I was driving, for a serious reason then i would, but only if it was an emergency. I think it is very unsafe and even if you don't injure yourself, you could kill someone else. I wouldn't want to take that chance for nothing.

Sarah   January 15th, 2009 11:13 am ET

It's always hard for everyone to never do a certain thing. I think it would be the best idea to just advocate less celphone use rather than to ban them conpletely. The thing is there, will always be emergencies when it is necessary to use a phone: being late to an appointment, to call for help or 911, etc.

Sarah   January 15th, 2009 11:29 am ET

I think that it is a problem but it not that bad we have gotten so so so much better!!!!!! right know we have bigger problems

yoceline   January 15th, 2009 12:14 pm ET

well I know its the law but people get adicted to texting and its painful to not use your phone while driving

alexis   January 15th, 2009 12:15 pm ET

that sucks because what if its an emergency.

Kimberly   January 15th, 2009 12:18 pm ET

I think that it would be so much better to have a road without using cellphones. It is a very bad distraction for ALL drivers so I guess that they should't be using it,UNLESS it is an emergency.

Jennifer   January 15th, 2009 12:19 pm ET

I dont think that they should talk with the celphone in there had I think they should let you use a bluetooth. When there driving they shouldnt text either what is 5 minutes of waiting to call back.

Joaquin   January 15th, 2009 12:20 pm ET

it suck if u can't us a cell in the car if your a passenger

Jessica   January 15th, 2009 12:21 pm ET

i think that it should be banned in all states because people blame others for there accident when it was there fault using a fone is dangerous biggg time and its not good to becease your more focused to the people who your talking to instead of the rode

JASMINE   January 15th, 2009 12:23 pm ET

I THINK THEY SHOULD LET DRIVERS TALK .

kayleen   January 15th, 2009 12:25 pm ET

i will always drive using my cell phone who wouldn't !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Ivette   January 15th, 2009 12:27 pm ET

On the road people talk all the time and text all the time whether there is a law that prohibits that. I think that it really wouldn't make a diffrence if they made a law that doesn't allow you to use your phone at all people would still use there phone no matter what.

carina   January 15th, 2009 12:28 pm ET

i think cell phones should be allowed on the road but only for emergencies like to inform family that your going to be late or that you can't make it to some place..

Rodrigo   January 15th, 2009 12:35 pm ET

Carl, I think that it’s ok use bluetooth devices while driving because your hands free. But I do agree that you shouldn’t text or talk on you’re phone when driving. My mom refuses to talk on her cellphone while driving so i don’t think you should. but then again some people are to lazy to talk so they text which is kind of stupid.

Pedro   January 15th, 2009 3:40 pm ET

your right if someone rides a car while texting you ca n get into a car aciddent.

Mary   January 15th, 2009 4:26 pm ET

Carl, you just make sure that you don't text while driving!

anastasia   January 15th, 2009 4:49 pm ET

Carl,

What is life without cell phones? It's a ridiculous idea and our economy on this world today should focus on more important laws that we shuld make.

Taylor   January 15th, 2009 4:52 pm ET

The economy needs to focus on decisions for not only or country but the people of this world. I am pretty confident that cell phones while driving being prohibited(not allowed) will just cause more trouble to our society today. By the way, your hair looks silly.

Kate   January 15th, 2009 7:48 pm ET

I believe that using cell phones while driving is okay as long as the person feels confident that he or she will an do it without having an accident. I also think that if people where in an emergency situation that cell phones on the road would be nessassary. And the bluetooth devcices should definently be allowwed on the road because you aren't even using your hands with them!!

Milacas   January 15th, 2009 8:09 pm ET

I think its a great idea,as long as it doesn't include people who pull over to talk on the cell phones,I've seen people here and there do that. But there also should be more alert driving anyhow, people are plenty dumb driving, (not talking about everyone) I've almost witnessed possible accidents cause people are too impatient to wait for a tractor to pull off a road into their own drive ways (I live on a hill so they shouldn't even be passing in the first place) I wont be surprised when an accident does happen.

Brinley   January 15th, 2009 8:39 pm ET

I don't think that I could live without my cell phone I don't think that anyone can because techknowlagy has become such a big part in everyone's life and we really depend on it

Alexis   January 15th, 2009 11:02 pm ET

Driving without cellphones would be a whole lot better. Think about the teens! They're already distracted doing make-up or eating hamburgers! It's just not safe!

Anthony   January 16th, 2009 8:43 am ET

I would be able to drive without a cell phone, and if I needed to use it I would pull off so i wouldnt put my self in danger.

Michael   January 16th, 2009 8:52 am ET

This is a little much. I believe that we should take protective measures to reduce crashes on the road, just not to the extent that they are trying to ban it to. What should happen is a ban on talking without a headset/voice-activated phone. This would allow people to continue talking on the phone while paying attention to the road.

Jared   January 16th, 2009 8:54 am ET

I don’t think I could drive without ever using a phone, but I think I could cut back a lot on the time I spend using the phone in the car. I usually don’t even use it that much in the car unless I’m having an important conversation or something anyways. I also heard that they are trying to make a law where it will be illegal to be using a cell phone talking or texting while driving. I think is law could cause trouble though because of urgent calls and emergencies.

Mallory   January 16th, 2009 9:57 am ET

As a 16 year old driver and I have used a cell phone while driving. I don’t think I could ever drive without a cell phone. There is always something that comes up so I need to be able to get in touch with my parents or call a friend. I don’t think the government can outlaw the use of cell phones while driving. We have grown so use to using them I think a complete cut off with cause problems.

Julia   January 16th, 2009 11:34 am ET

I think the 13 teen year old girl texting is cool i'm the same way somtimes i cant leave out my cell phone

p.s. Carl You are not corny its not yur fault.:)

Jenna   January 16th, 2009 11:44 am ET

saffty is too inpornt to leave out !but if your a good driver and its inportant call tack it don't live life affrend of evry thing! CHILL OUT !!!

Patrick   January 16th, 2009 12:29 pm ET

although it does cause accidents, i belive they shouldnt be eliminated.
My mom talks on the phone while driving all the time. and she's fine

Alex   January 16th, 2009 2:15 pm ET

Driving without cell phones is a joke. People shouldn’t be txting when driving because it’s dangerous. Although driving and talking on the phone isn’t that big of a deal if you do it with caution. It wouldn’t surprise me if they outlawed it but outlawing the use of Bluetooth devices is dumb, people will find a way around it.

Griffin   January 16th, 2009 2:26 pm ET

I always use my phone when i'm driving and i think its ridiculous to ban them. I can understand a ban on texting beacuse your taking your eyes off the road and not paying attention to where you are going, but talking on a phone while driving just doesn't seem like a very big issue to me.

Katelyn   January 16th, 2009 8:26 pm ET

I understand why they want that to be arule but what if you have a very urgent call and you you can't answer it that is just wrong

melinda   January 16th, 2009 9:39 pm ET

My sis texts when she is driving even when i'm in the car. so after awhile i told her to stop. so i think talking and texting while driving is really bad.

caitlyn   January 16th, 2009 9:44 pm ET

my bro was talking on the phone when he ended in the snowbank. it was scary and that is why i think it is a bad and dangerous thing.

nate   January 16th, 2009 10:55 pm ET

I think they should not make a law baning cellphone usage on the road because, i can do want to do with my cell and people can't do anything about it.

CJ   January 17th, 2009 9:51 am ET

I think that you would have to use one atleast once in your life. What happens if you have a wreak? What happens if your family calls you?

celina   January 17th, 2009 1:35 pm ET

16 year olds are probally the most people who cause the accidents because they are so involved wiith texting and talking on the phone with their freinds that they dont pay attention to the road.

Brinley   January 18th, 2009 4:29 pm ET

I think that that law is really not a good idea. If they were to pass this law then what is the point of have a blue tooth if you are not going to be able to use them?

kelsey   January 18th, 2009 6:01 pm ET

i dont think that it really everyone. my dad does text and talk on the phone wen he drive. and nothing happened. good drivers dont alwas hurt or distroy there cars.... so just relaxe

Michelle   January 19th, 2009 5:46 am ET

Of course I can................................................................................

Michelle   January 19th, 2009 5:47 am ET

Of course I can................................................................................
Of course!Yes!

Jazmyne   January 19th, 2009 7:46 am ET

I think to many people talk on their phone while we drive which may lead to accidents but soo many other things lead to acident to like, the kids in the backseat talking or the driver eating. theirs really no way to prevent them from talking on their phone even with a law they will still do it.

Storm & Amber   January 19th, 2009 2:23 pm ET

No, we couldn't drive without texting or calling people, and neither can our parents. We can't even ride a golf cart without talking on a phone. LOL

Abby   January 19th, 2009 4:39 pm ET

I would have to say yes. It's not a major thing right now and also it's very dangerous. Can't people wait until they are there or maybe just get a bluetooth. Anything that is safe and doesn't distract you is the perfect key to a easy, great car ride.

jacob   January 19th, 2009 8:46 pm ET

carl yes i do think people should be able to use cell phones because if people are going to there friends house and need directions to get there you have to call them.

Kathy   January 19th, 2009 9:25 pm ET

There were cars and roads long before there were cell phones. Let's stay alive long enough to text/chat another day. No phone call is so urgent that it can't wait until the car is stopped at a safe location. Let's be smart here!

Tonya   January 20th, 2009 8:30 pm ET

Carl, I've seen many people almost get into accidents talking on their cells while driving and I've also seen people text while driving and I think that it's pretty sad if people can't just drive these days. What is so important to talk about that can't wait?

jackie   January 21st, 2009 9:13 am ET

I don’t think you should be able to text while driving. You’re not just putting your life in danger, your also so putting other people’s life in danger. You have to look at the phone when u text. In a split second something could happen. How would you feel if someone you loved was killed because someone hit them while they were texting or talking on the phone? You would be mad at that person. So When you drive you should turn your phone off. When you turn your phone back on your text messages will pop up. if you have to talk on the phone, get Bluetooth , or something hands free, it won’t hurt to try some of these things.

I currently do not drive right now, but if I could drive, I would wait until I am in a safer driving area until I answer my cellphone.

Kayla   January 21st, 2009 9:21 am ET

Driving while on the phone, we all do it, if they make that law people will still be on the phone, texting and talking. When I'm driving people call me, but most of the time it is my Mom, Dad and sometimes my Boyfriend, but when my parents call me I always try to answer because I'm worried something might be wrong or they need me for something. As far as texting goes while driving is WAY more dangerous than talking, to me anyways, because you look down, your eyes are not on the road. Overall I do believe if it did become a law, it would be a good idea but how many people would actually follow it?

austin   January 21st, 2009 10:03 am ET

I think if you talk with people on the phone while driving you should a headset or something .

Jessica   January 21st, 2009 11:36 am ET

I think it should be banned. Look how many people have gotten into accidents and been killed because they were talking on the phone? Where I live, a police officer directing traffic was killed by a teacher- talking on a cell phone. I know it will be hard for people to stop, but it's something that has to happen. My mother tells me stories about how my grandfather used to never wear his seatbelt- until it was made a law and he got a ticket for it. That's what it's gonna take to stop this- there actually being a immediate consequence for talking on a cell phone- one besides getting into a wreck.

it wouled be bater

alee   January 21st, 2009 1:20 pm ET

that is a good idea teens it might suck not being able to0 use your phone but it is for your own good and it could possibly save your life and everyone who is around you`s life too

Luna   January 21st, 2009 8:19 pm ET

Bluetooth would really solve the problem, there could be maybe some test. Like my dad talks on the cellphone while driving and he's never got into a crash, it's different for everyone. My mom on the other hand, shouldn't drive with a cellphone. I think it's also just a matter of common sense, people know if they can drive with a cellphone or not, some are good drivers and others are bad. And like Tonya earlier mentioned, What is so important to talk about that can't wait?

Mitchums   January 22nd, 2009 11:18 am ET

I think this whole idea is stupid i think that you guys should let us have our freedom back we can handle our selfs

Wes   January 23rd, 2009 1:40 pm ET

u need to txt and drive its not fair what if you get lost how ill you find your way back GPS is expensive

Nicole   January 23rd, 2009 4:03 pm ET

I think that we should have cell phones on the road. But maybe we should just be a little more careful on what we do with the car, because I wouldn't want to go around with everybody in cars all smashed up, and us getting hurt!:(

Kitty   January 24th, 2009 11:23 pm ET

I really think no phones on the road. If your talking (or texting) your not paying attention. It doesnt matter for me though because I'm too young to drive :-) If scared about that 14000 text girl. Will she be a text while driving person?

jaszepooh   January 25th, 2009 10:26 am ET

ok i agree with kerstin it is so impossible to not have a cell phone wat if somebody in yo family get sick and u the only one they can count on .so thats why it is inportant to have a cell phone at all times

Elizabeth   January 25th, 2009 7:35 pm ET

If I had to give up my cell phone while driving I would die. I think talking on the phone is okay. I do think texting while you drive is a totally different story. Nobody should text while they drive, at least when you talk on the phone you can actually pay attention to the road. I think it is kind of your fault if you wreck because if you are not experienced enough to talk and drive don’t do it. Since most Americans have a habit of using their cell phone while they drive, so it will be hard to stop every person from using their cell phones.

Michael   January 27th, 2009 10:54 am ET

when I drive I put my phone up untill I get to a red light or just wait till I get to where i'm going

Raymecia   January 27th, 2009 11:15 am ET

Maybe since I just started driving my opion will change but as of now I don't like to drive while using my phone when it ring I just let it go to the vooice mail until I am where ever I need to be....

Kiara   January 27th, 2009 11:18 am ET

I like cell phones and all, I dont kno what ill do with out mind. we shouldnt drive with them though it becomes un safe. Some teenagers lose track of what they are doing and get into car accidents. it may be hard to get people to stop using cell phones while driving because its a habit.

LaQundra   January 27th, 2009 11:25 am ET

yes i think that danger becuse that can cause accident or people not lookin at the role cause they textin so they not lookin up but its goin to get better the police going to stop that habbit before its get out of control

Marquesha   January 27th, 2009 11:26 am ET

I think its impossible no matter wat anyone says to drive without using a cell phone no matter. You could get an important phone call from a job inteviewer or anything so no i dont think i can drive without using one. If they do make it a rule then everybody is just going to sneak and do it so theres no point to me.

Jaleesa   January 27th, 2009 11:28 am ET

I am not a driver and have never driven on a busy road before. Speaking from a passengers perspective I don't think the government should be allowed to restrict driving while talking on a cell phone. If you need directions to a friend's house, or you just have something you want to tell someone about you need your cell phone. Even though it distracts some people wen they drive it shouldn't be band. Because there are a lot of people on the road with no distractions that still do a horrible job at driving

David   January 27th, 2009 12:34 pm ET

You should not drive while texting. It is dangerous even if ou are just doing it quickly. I got in an accident from that(even though it was small). However, I believe that talking on your phone should be permitted in case of an emergency or so.

How they would monitor the use though I do not know.

Sterling   January 27th, 2009 1:29 pm ET

I think it is very dangerios to drive and talk on the phone at the same time. Even though I may do it when I get my car it is still dangerios. Many people can lose their life that way. It would be way safer to drive without using a cell phone.

Tierra   January 27th, 2009 1:29 pm ET

I honestly think that I can't drive without at least texing or on it. I have to have my phone it is a must. Yea i know that it is a little dangerous but i think that i am a pretty good drive and i can muti-task very well. For others i cant speak for them, but as for me i know i can do it at the same time. I try not to do it like if its my friend and he or she is just wanting to talk about uneccessary things then i will call them back, but if it is like my parents or siblings or something i know it may be important then i will answer my phone:)

Mr. Miller   January 29th, 2009 3:48 pm ET

I think that safety should be our main concern. Ban cell phones while people drive (unless using a wireless headset) for safety reasons.

makayla   January 30th, 2009 8:30 am ET

No, i would be in a jail cell! I always have my phone with me, would I just let it ring?!N0 I also think that if they did ban cell phones while driving the whole world would be in a jail cell!

melissa   January 30th, 2009 1:08 pm ET

i don't have a cell phone but i see people with them all the time. My friends text alot, and i usually see people who text while they drive.
My dad has the ear plug so that both of your hands on the wheel, but it's still a distraction and most of the car wrecks right now are do to the cell phones.
i think, there should be a law against cell phones on the raods, calfornia made a law that you have to have a blue tooth, but they should make all the states do that.
you should only use a cell phone in case of emergency not to socialize.

Kota   January 30th, 2009 1:37 pm ET

I think that cloning really isn't right, because if you were meant to go you were meant to go i really think that it's just changing whats destined to happen.

Andrew   February 1st, 2009 8:58 am ET

the whole concept is dumb and if the lw should be passed you should still get to have blue-tooth

Max   February 1st, 2009 10:28 am ET

I think that texting while driving is not a very good thing to do or else the consequences won't turn out as you expect.

kayla   February 1st, 2009 8:09 pm ET

well does your car have blue tooth? if it does that doesnt count as a phone right? and if it doesnt then i could drive without my phone in the kar even though i dont drive yet lol

Mickee   February 2nd, 2009 10:28 am ET

i think that texting while driving is not a very good idea but talking on the phone i think is not a problem, because your not looking at your phone when you are talking on it!!!
