No Hands, No Feet, No Excuses

I thought the best part of Kyra Phillips' interview with Kyle Maynard came when he said he wouldn't ask God to change the way he was made.  Why should he?  It's true that the challenges that Kyle has had to overcome are greater than many of us will ever face.  But the fact that he overcame them anyway and accomplished so much gives us all reason to get up, face the things that intimidate us, and be great.

The word I keep coming back to after watching this story is "amazing."  Got any of your own?

It is a miracle what he can and cannot do with the gifts that he has been given and is a pure example that nothing is impossible.

I think that sometimes having a disability would push you to do something great, more ambitious.
He is a great person who never gives up, and me too, AMAZING

I watched the video 14minutes after it was updated!!!

He dosen't look weird that much.
i think that he might be better than some not-disabled people.
He is awesome and his mind would warm others' , telling them not to give up. His appearience dosen't matter so much.

Kyle is very brave to show what he is capable of doing. I think he very easily could have been made fun of in school and that would keep most people back from trying to succeed, but as Aristotle said, " We are what we repeatedly do..."

I think Kyle is awesome and I like the way he dosen't give up and dosen't mind so much about how he looks like.

wow... that guy is amazing amazing. it just made me feel realize how i wasted my days and my time while there is this guy always looking for his success...

without excuses.. that is really powerful way to train himself since ourself is the strongest enemy..
furthermore, he is glorifying God out of it and saying how blessed he is.

How blessed! now with two arms and two legs, we too have to use our limited lives wisely.

It makes us persevering to get out of bed look pathetic! This is really amazing, we couldn't imagine living with that condition, but Kyle showed us!

Kyle Maynard made us think about how lucky we are, even though he can do just as much as we can, even though he has a disability. 🙂 🙂

    January 6, 2009 at 8:48 am |
  28. Grace

I think living like that would be hard. But he makes it look easy. I feel lucky to have arms and legs. I don't know whether I should feel sorry or not. I would probably get annoyed with all the same questions being asked over and over again. The only problem is, how would I play soccer? How does he wear shoes? Does he even have to wear shoes? Does he skiing or snowboard? Does he swim? Is he able to drive or does he have someone drive him everywhere?

    January 6, 2009 at 8:48 am |
  29. Elena

I think it is amazing how far he has come! If I woke up one morning with no limbs like that, I wouldn't even know how to get my covers off, and get out of bed! Yet he can lift about 400 pounds and is one of the best wrestles in his school! He has wonderful perverseness and can accomplish his dreams. Imagine if he got arms, it would be like us growing a tail, you don't know what it feels like to ever have one!

  30. Emily

I would feel so guilty if I met that guy-I feel guilty just seeing him in that interview-because he does so much with so little! It makes you want to work way harder just to try to equal his effort. I admire his determination and dedication. I feel like I have it very easy compared to him....

    January 6, 2009 at 8:52 am |
  31. Brooks

I think that is amazing that he can do that stuff and be good At it
i typed this whole thing with my elbows to see what it is like and it is very hard. GOOD JOB!

    January 6, 2009 at 8:52 am |
  32. Aidan

    Fantabulous!

itd be hard to type without any hands...
    im inspired!!!
    wuta tank!!!

p.s. i typed with my elbows for you, Kyle!

I couldn't imagine being born without arms or legs, and this guy, he's all happy about it! I wonder if the economy is worse for him than any of us. All I can say is, if this guy can overcome being limbless, I will definitely overcome all my personal problems. Now, when I learn a new song on guitar and I think it's hard, I'll think of this story and I'll be motivated. Hopefully now I'll be able to play Espionage by Green Day without messing up on the main riffs.

i thought that it was very inspiring to see that he was able to do so much with what he was given and he just took advantage of it and now he lift 400 pounds, i think thats really inspiring.

We think that it is interesting that this man with no hands and no feet can wrestle and win wresting matches. We also think he is a a big inspiration to alot of people.

    January 6, 2009 at 9:43 am |
  39. Tiviona

Its amazing to see person that don’t have any legs or arms and that wrestle because I thought people that didn’t have arm or legs could do may things but Kyle Maynard proved me wrong and that people with no feet or legs can do a lot of things.

    January 6, 2009 at 9:46 am |
  40. Mr. K + Ashley

I wish that all my students could adopt Mr. Maynard’s philosophy that with hard work you will achieve your dreams. In today’s society everybody wants to see results right away. When sometimes all it takes is time and determination.

kyle your doing a good work in your conditions. And that is good because you make a good example for people. It’s true that the challenges that Kyle has had to overcome are greater than many of us will ever face. I think Kyle is a big hearted person life had to be hard. But he didn’t give up. So I’ am going to use his words to coop with life. And I think it’s cool that they found a Germany war field. And Carl Azuz Keep ups the good work.

I think thats great, that he never gave up, thats terrific, I mean to have the determination to lift weights and not to give up on your dream to wrestle thats what hero's are made of.

I think that he is really brave because of the way he handles him self and dosent let other people get in the way of what he wants in the long run so best of wishs to him and good luck people who don`t do any thing and just give money is good, but he is really doing the most good for the people in the comuntie and every where he gose.

Kyle inspired us. It doesn't matter if you have a disability, you can keep trying and reach your goals. We all have challenges.

Carl, how much can you lift?

    January 6, 2009 at 10:50 am |

I have came a long way with my challenges even though I might have all my hands and feet but I will still hold my head up high and not let one person put me down. If I had something that was amputated I would look at you as my hero. Keep it up Kyle!

  59. Megan Marie

Nothing can compare to Kyle's inspiring story but if I were to share a story it would be of my friend's brother. He was born with cerebral palsy and he continued to challenge himself nothing seemed to be too difficult for him even though his muscles could barely be used he learned to kind of walk. He seemed to be a great inspiration for me because he always had a big goofy smile on his face no matter what.

If I was in that position i think that i would get really frustrated with my self because i might think that i cant do anything. But it is really cool that he kept with it and has been very successful with a lot of things and i think he might teach other people to stick with something even if they are not good st it.

Wow. It's funny how, when you think about it, people you think of as, "oh poor him," could be the people you look up to. I know I look up to him! I think that anyone who wants to give up on something should find out about him before they make that decision. What a role model!

I guess that what he is doing is very brave and cool. He is a good role-model to kids everywhere. He has some good actions by not gettin mad at God for the way he was born or made. He really is grateful for what he is. In my opinion he is making a good decision by thinking the way he did. (:

What I thought about you is that I am sure that in the future you'll get more stronger then you are right now and think that how did you feel when you saw others not the same way you looked?

I think that Kyle Maynard is doing the right thing because you should never change who you are and be you and be yourself dont let other people bring you down if you just be yourself you are more powerful than the people that judge you.

When i just heard about this handicap man I thought in my mind how many things did he do with out his hands and when I heard what he did I was shocked of what I heard he can do many things I cant do.Also he said no excuses which mean to me there is no way you cant do this you just have to practice and kep trying at it and you can succed what you wish.

i think it is so cool that a person that was born with disability could still do stuff like lifting weights and doing such contact sports. Then still have a gym that is getting people to believe in their selves more.

    January 6, 2009 at 1:21 pm |
  116. Austin

I think it is very cool that a man with no hands and feet can do all those things. He's right when he says no exuses because if he can do it so can we. It is cool he can write books too.

CNN Students News is spectacular! We are so glad we found this podcast. We start our class everyday with the news, and each and every day it is both interesting and informative. Thank you CNN & Carl Azuz!"

As far as the "No Hands, No Feet, No Excuses" story, it was awesome! So often we are exposed to bad or negative news. We love too see positive stories too. We were all impacted by many of the stories you have showcased that illustrate how people overcame disabilities and have achieved success. All of the stories preach a common theme: anything can be accomplished with the right attitude and a lot of hard work, no matter what obstacles are standing in their way! Thanks for enlightening us and brightening each and every day!

I think it is pretty incredible that he has done that much. Though he has challenges and hard times, he overcomes then and works towards his goals!

    January 6, 2009 at 2:32 pm |
  132. josh

I think kyle has an amazing attitude and thats how is doing so well in life. I think that is the key and that kyle figured that out and went with it, fought his fear. And I think that is terrific and that has inspired me.

    January 6, 2009 at 2:33 pm |
  133. Jessica

I think his story was very sweet how he didn't have any feet or hands i guess it makes me relize how lucky i am to have feet and hands and how i am allowed to do things that other people cant do.

    January 6, 2009 at 2:33 pm |
  134. Trevor

This story is amazing. I can not believe he could lift so much with so little. I think he is really inspiring to everyone, and that there is no excuses and as long as you keep trying and work hard you will become better at it and succeed.

    January 6, 2009 at 2:34 pm |
  135. Megan

It makes me think about how lazy America is really getting. Now every time i hear someone say, "I'm soooo fatttt...." I can go "No hands, no feet, no excuses." and than tell them to look it up. : )

    January 6, 2009 at 2:34 pm |
  136. Kyle

That is amazing how he can lift weights with that disability. I can's believe he did sports with that.

    January 6, 2009 at 2:34 pm |
  137. Maheen

I think that if he was able to lift four hundred pounds, play football, do wrestling, write a book, and type fifty words per min. without arms or legs then he has a lot to account for in his life considering his disability.

    January 6, 2009 at 2:35 pm |
  138. Alexis

Him being able to now lift 400 lbs. is amazing, considering him being handicapped. It shows that you can overcome anything when you try. I think he is very inspirational.

    January 6, 2009 at 2:35 pm |
  139. Jocelyn

I am happy for Kyle that everything is going in his favor. He has a disability and he still is more active than most Americans that have hands and feet, and he is right there shouldn't be any excuses, look what Kyle can do with out hands or feet and look what other people do with them. I am glad that Kyle is a influence on the world and i hope this opens some peoples eyes so that everyone gets active.-Keep being active Kyle!!!

    January 6, 2009 at 2:35 pm |
  140. james

i think kyle has inspired me to never give up no matter what. If he can do it, so can I, no matter what the challenge we will face, we can over come it!

    January 6, 2009 at 2:36 pm |
  141. J.J.

I think that if I had no hands like the person on cnn I would have to work extra hard to work with wood. Even if I didn't have hands I would still go to the farm & work with the horses just to do it. I would still help my dad with loading &stacking the wood so my dad doesn't have to hurt his back.

    January 6, 2009 at 2:36 pm |
  142. Michael

I think that his accomplishments show us that people with disabilities can do great things. He is an inspiration for other people to overcome their disabilities, and he also an inspiration for people who don't have disabilities to know what they are capable of.

    January 6, 2009 at 2:36 pm |
  143. meghan

what kyle did was awesome to lift the weights to type all those words and to never give up and stood for what he believed in and also writing a book i think its fantastic that he did all those amazing things and should keep on going!!!!

    January 6, 2009 at 2:37 pm |
  144. mazin

I thought an amputee would be depressed and not go as far as thinking about sports and the gym until I saw him and I truly think that he is an inspiration to everyone.

    January 6, 2009 at 2:37 pm |
  145. Ian

Wow that kid is jacked. This is cool that he is opening up a gym and that is sweet but good luck with it but have a great day or not the chose is yours.

    January 6, 2009 at 2:37 pm |
  146. Daniel

I hope that taught us all a lesson, because i know it taught me a lesson. That we should never give up, on whatever obstacle is facing towards us. And just like kyle we can do anything.
    And i rock!

    January 6, 2009 at 2:38 pm |
  147. kate

This is a very inspiring story. i think its a good idea to open a gym to help other people to reach their goals. he has accomplished a lot, and it is an amazing story.

    January 6, 2009 at 2:38 pm |
  148. Essence

I think that it is great that he wouldn't change any thing about himself. Why would he want to? He can lift a 400 pound weight with no hands and even some people with hands cant lift that much weight.

    January 6, 2009 at 2:39 pm |
  149. Miss Malin's 4th grade class

This story was very inspirational. A question our class wants to know is how many words per minute can you type Carl?

    January 6, 2009 at 2:39 pm |
  150. Catherine

I think what Kyle has done is absolutely amazing! It is really in truly amazing. He has touched so many lives and even saved many lives. My favorite part was when he said if he had the chance he wouldn't want arms! This guy is so awesome. You go boy!

    January 6, 2009 at 2:39 pm |
  151. Tyler

Very cool that he has the ability to do what he does with a disability. He has taught others to do something and never let anything hold you back.

    January 6, 2009 at 2:43 pm |
  152. Dominique

I think that is so amazing that you can lift that's much weights if u dont have if you dont have any arms. Another amazing thing was he was on the wresting team and he was going against a man and won that match.

    January 6, 2009 at 2:49 pm |
  153. Kerry

I think this story was very suprising that he could do all those activites. He is so brave to keep going and never give up what he is doing. I think he did the right thing is to open his own gym to help people training if they need it.

    January 6, 2009 at 2:50 pm |
  154. Kelly

What he has accomplished is amazing. He has overcome a huge challenge and I admire him for that. You could learn many lessons from this man, probably the main one being you can accomplish anything with determination. But I think that one of his main accomplishments, aside from his book, gym, and ability to lift over four hundred pounds, is that he overcame his disability and was able to inspire others. I think that was his biggest accomplishment.

    January 6, 2009 at 2:51 pm |
  155. Ms. Minnema's 5th Grade Class

We think Kyle Maynard was very brave to try to accomplish everything he has. Also, we think it's awesome that he could lift 400 pounds! Wow!

He inspired a lot of kids across the country to go for their dreams and never give up.

    January 6, 2009 at 3:02 pm |
  157. Cameron

That is so cool how he can do those things without arms or legs! I myself can't even do that and I have arms and legs. If I knew him I would be very proud of him! He is an amazing man and I hope that the Lord will keep blessing him in many ways.

    January 6, 2009 at 3:08 pm |
  158. sheila

i think it is amazing that he can lift things without arms or feet. how did he write that book without hands? I have a relative who has problems with her back.

    January 6, 2009 at 3:34 pm |
  159. taylor

I feel bad and amazed that a person with no hands and no feet could lift that many weights. I wouldnt be able to do that could you do that carl not me well bye carl!!!!!!!!!!!.

I think that its great for someone with disabilitys to accomplish something so great. It certainly shows that life has no limits if you just stick with what your doing.

    January 6, 2009 at 4:15 pm |
  163. Jonathan

I think that it is a real acheavement tha he can lift over 400 pounds! I couldn't lift that much even if my parents helped me!

    January 6, 2009 at 4:44 pm |
  164. Zaynab

Kyle is an inspiring person who not only tells but shows people with disabilities that they are normal like any other human being on this planet. Most people with both arms and legs can't even lift a finger, but Kyle was born with cerebral palsy and is lifting 400lb weights!

I remember a student teacher my class had in art, at my elementary school who had no arms, but yet he drew the most spectacular drawings just like a professional artist. I was dissapointed when I heard kids talking behind his back, teasing him about having no arms.

Kyle probably gets some negative comments, but with a strong heart he probably doesn't even care one bit!

    January 6, 2009 at 4:59 pm |
  165. Dylan

I think it was a good idea to open the gym it will help encourage more people to work toward thier goals, way to go!

    January 6, 2009 at 5:01 pm |
  166. Juan

It think it is awesome that Kyle could overcome obstacles that not every person can overcome. I admire Kyle because he taught me to overcome obstacles and try harder to overcome other obstacles I say I cannot do. I also think that he is a very strong person after knowing that he has a disability and he keeps moving forward. Good job Kyle. Thank you Carl!!!

    January 6, 2009 at 5:13 pm |
  167. ANN

What that incredible man did was not to give up. He's amazing and it tells me that he was a true believer and he inspired me. This is exactly what this country needs right now, inspiration and determination to get through the hard times.

    January 6, 2009 at 5:14 pm |
  168. Brandon

I saw your story on the CNN news room. I think that's real cool what you've done, and what you're trying to do. I'm truly impressed by how much weight you can lift. Four hundred pounds is good for someone who has no feet or hands. The news room said you play football, that's hard to believe, you might have to show me that one.

    January 6, 2009 at 5:18 pm |
  169. Christina

I think that it is amazing how Kyle has the courage to even wake up in the morning. You can see that he has learned that when there is a bump in the road all you have to do is drive over it.

    January 6, 2009 at 5:21 pm |
  170. David

I saw your story on CNN Student News and I think that you are truly an inspiration to all of us. If you can go through life missing some of your body parts and are as successful as you have been, anybody can acomplish anything they set their mind to. Since you havedone all the things you have there really should be "No Excuses" for anyone. I have a few questions though. What position did you play in foodtball? How well did you do in wrestling? And why don't you get prostetic legs and hands?

    January 6, 2009 at 5:21 pm |
  171. Holly

I saw your story on CNN Student News and your accomplishments are unbelievable and inspiring. To have a good attitude towards life is just a testimony to what is deep inside all of us, a will to live and excel. Thank you.

    January 6, 2009 at 5:23 pm |
  172. Kirsten

I saw your story on the CNN Student NEws. Your story is a really inspirational one to those who have disabilities. I think it is great that you have overcome this. How did you play football and do you really type 50 words a minute? Your story has inspired me to try harder and do better in life.

    January 6, 2009 at 5:27 pm |
  173. Ashley

I saw your story on CNN Student News and i think what you've done is pretty amazing. I wouldn't think that someone in your situation would be so physically able and emotionally strong. Most people probably wouldn't even try to accomplish the things you have. It is pretty cool that you have changed so many peoples lived and helped them.

    January 6, 2009 at 5:29 pm |
  174. Crystal

I saw you feature on CNN Student News and it was great! Keep doing what you're doing. I'm sure you're an inspiration to many! You're accomplishing the "impossible" giving hope to others as you go. Way to go!

    January 6, 2009 at 5:30 pm |
  175. Dylan

We have all heard it the "no Im tired, no Im sore".Now there is no excuce even for you Carl.

    January 6, 2009 at 5:31 pm |
  176. Lindsey

My class and I watch CNN Student News and we saw you and your "No Excuse" policy. I think it is great what you are doing. Many kids should be inspired by you since you have a great disability but don't allow it to get in your way. I hope you keep this up and inspire many more people.

    January 6, 2009 at 5:32 pm |
  177. Tera

I saw your story on CNN Student News. I can't even imagine facing the challenges you have faced and you have ocercome them. Why don't you get prostetic arms and legs? Have you ever considered it? People who think their lives suck have no room to talk because you have a difficult life and make no excuses. You are an inspiration to everyone!

    January 6, 2009 at 5:33 pm |
  178. Chelsea

I saw your story on CNN Student News and i was amazed. It's true that anything is possible and you are proof. How did you find that strength within yourself to keep going and be all you could be? You said that your parents raised you to believe that you didn't have a disability but how did you deal with other peoples comments? Many people are cruel and don't understand differences and I think it's amazing that you have overcome that.

    January 6, 2009 at 5:35 pm |
  179. Annie

Kyle took what everyone else would deem a "weakness" and turned it into his greatest asset. Would anyone have run out to buy his book if he just another average John Doe who likes to work out? Repeatedly throughout history, the greatest heroes are the ones who overcame their weaknesses...or turned them into strengths...and accomplished something amazing. He's pretty inspirational.

Yeah, Carl...how much CAN you lift? 🙂

    January 6, 2009 at 5:36 pm |
  180. Travis

Your story is amazing. There's not very many people like you out there. But there is one thing I would like to ask. Why don't you get prostetic legs or something, or at least try to get some better transportation?

    January 6, 2009 at 5:37 pm |
  181. Dustin

I saw your story on CNN Student News and it really made me appreciate what i do have. I think your motto "No Excuses" is a great one to live by. You have done some wonderful things in your life and it sounds like you're still going. Keep up the hard work and good luck with your gym.

    January 6, 2009 at 5:38 pm |
  182. Daniel

I saw your story on CNN Student News, you are truely an inspiration to many kids and maybe adults around the world. You have overcome a big obstical that many people couldn't and have succeded immensly. How did you do it? If everyone couldhave the will and determintation that you have the world would be perfect. You have dealt with the comments of many people but that hasn't stopped you from completing your goals. Good luck with the gym.

    January 6, 2009 at 5:41 pm |
  183. David

I saw your story on CNN Student News. You inspired me to accept the way i am. You should give speeches at schools to help students become more accepting with themselves and others. Can you eat and drive at the same time?

    January 6, 2009 at 5:42 pm |
  184. Cody

I think it's amazing that someone with your disability can do what you have done. I wish more people had the self esteem to pull through their problems like you.

    January 6, 2009 at 5:43 pm |
  185. Becky

I saw your story on the newsroom and found it very inspirational. There are few people out there that would keep holding their head up with your conditions and you are one of those amazing people. I think that your gym idea and going out to speak to the public is great. I hope they work out for you! Good luck!

    January 6, 2009 at 5:45 pm |
  186. Shawn

I saw your story on CNN Student News and i can't believe what you are doing for others. You have proven to many that you should never give up even when life gets tough. Keep up the inspiration and never stop moving forward.

We saw you story on CNN Student News room. I would just like to say that your moto is perfect. You should people that nothing can keep you from any task. It's nice that you go around and talk to people and groups. It's awesome that your parents taught you to see yourself as normal, because you are! There isn't anything wrong with you. So keep on living the way you do, no excuses!

Hey Kyle, I saw your story on CNN News room and I think what you're doing is amazing! It's cso cool how you are happy just how are are, and don't want to be changed. Also, I like how you never viewed yourself as any different than anyone else, because you shouldn't have. You really inspired me because if you have overcome the obsticales you have there is a great chance i can overcome mine, with "No Excuses"! Your story gave me faith that i can accomplish anything I really set my mind to if I work at it.

I saw your story on the CNN Student NEws and i think that is is crazy how you can do things like that as a guy with now arms and legs. Your ability to lift 400 pounds is amazing. That's cool that you played Football! It is my favorite sport. It's my senior year so i can never play it again but maybe i'll stop by your gym sometime. See ya!

It really is amazing how he just goes on with his life not ever wishing that he could change. He is a good example for showing us that we can still be happy if we don't have everything.

It's so amazing how a guy like him can lift that many pounds with no hands and feet. When I saw that I couldn't believe it. He is rght there is no excuses. That really changed my life in some ways. Now when I do stuff I'm gunna try my best and give it all I got because there is no excuse for anything.

Kyle, you really inspired me. You make me want to turn any weakness i have into a strength. The next time I complain about something, I'll think of you and your perserverance and get over it. Life's short, make the most of it! You certainly have, and that makes me want to make the most of life, too. Your kindness, impact on others, and overall confidence and determination amaze me.

He's so amazing!!! If I didn't have hands and feet I think it would be really hard for me and he just goes on with life like its normal and he encourages people to not give excuses for not being able to do something because of the way they are. He is a really cool, inspirational guy.

    January 6, 2009 at 8:39 pm |

  205. Jungsoo

I think he is great! I know how painful is...
In June 2007, I tripped my right arm and still it is a problem.
First time, I couldn't write, type, eat or do anything with my right arm.
So I practiced a lot for to eat with left hand, type only with left hand and even write with left hand. I was extremly frustrated. Now I can do light things, such as typing, eating, writing but, still I can't do any hard work or sports with my hand(arm). So I'm not doing any sports or work outs. But, after know about him, I think I have to start some work out without my right arm. And in 2009, I hope it will be cured perfectly.
It's really sad that I can't use my arm in 15. But it's totally better than Kyle Maynard, So I can still have hope!

    January 6, 2009 at 9:42 pm |
  206. Cody

This is truly an inspirational man. His perseverance through his disability has shown true character.

    January 6, 2009 at 9:49 pm |
  207. Rebekah

I think Kyle is an inspiration to people everywhere. Instead of dwelling on the fact he doesn't have hands and feet and believing that he is handicapped, he decided to make the best of the card he was dealt with. I think the quote," To make a difference you have to be different," applies well here.

    January 6, 2009 at 9:49 pm |
  208. Elizabeth

I am realy happy for him.He was born without arms or legs yet he managed to succeed in wrestling, and wieght lifting!I belive that he should win a award.Well, he is right thier should not be any excuses and you should always stay healthy!!

I will tell you the truth right now I would be feeling sorry for myself because I wasn't mormal but seeing his story would have brought me right up.

Kyle is amazing. as he is, he defines persaverience. He has taken advantage of his problem instead of leting it get him... Go Kyle!

You know Kyle, you inspired a lot. It also took a lot of crouage to get out there on live telivition and talk about yourself. I thank you for telling people your story because you told people of the same kind that it dosen't matter what you look like it's what is in your heart.

    January 7, 2009 at 8:59 am |
  223. roderick

He worked to the end so it doesnt matter how he looked, because he worked hard

    January 7, 2009 at 9:02 am |
  224. Jesse

Kyle Maynard is an inspiration to us all, he is truely amazing, he really does show us all what hardwork and dedication can do. He shows us to that you take what you have and focus on the positive aspect of it you can accomplish alot. He is a hero and someone for us all to strive to be like.

    January 7, 2009 at 9:04 am |
  225. Fez

I think this guy is brave and believes in what he is doing. He inspires many people and shouldn’t stop doing what he is doing. He can do anything we can and a lot more if he sets his mind to it. So why can’t we do it too? We have a functional body so it should be possible.

    January 7, 2009 at 9:05 am |
  226. Ryan

I think what Kyle is doing is great. I think that opening up a new gym is a great sign of confidence for him. It shows that anybody can be successful no matter how they look. It shows that anybody can succeed and not just those that we consider perfect in our society. It shows that not all successful people can are the best at sports or have the best grades, it shows that the successful people are those who have a dream and pursue it.

    January 7, 2009 at 9:08 am |
  227. Laura

I think it is great that someone can do that stuff without having hand or feet. It had to be hard to begin with dealing with the pressures of your peers. It would be great to have a change to deal with a problem and work to where it is not a problem no more. People should not disrespect someone just because they have a disability. It can make that person feel like he or she is not respect by others.

    January 7, 2009 at 9:22 am |
  228. Kayla

When watching the CNN Student news about Kyle Maynard, I was amazed. To see someone that has no arms, or legs have so much motivation to do what he wants and doesn’t let anything hold him back is great. He accepts who he is and doesn’t want to change. I believe that everyone could get a good life lesson from Kyle; just because you look different from everyone else doesn’t mean you can’t do things that they do, you might have to try harder but you can still do anything you put your mind too! Kyle has probably overcome many obstacles in his life that we may never have to face, but he did it, so why can’t we?

    January 7, 2009 at 9:23 am |
  229. dylan

    this story is great!!!

    January 7, 2009 at 10:28 am |
  230. Sean

For someone with no arms or legs to play sports and actually play is amazing. No excuses is possibly the best quote from Kyle. I thought that the most astoshing fact was that he could type 50 words per minute. Most people can't do that with arms and hand. And he has none. I hope his gym works well and he is successful.

    January 7, 2009 at 10:44 am |
  231. Mike

The first word that comes to mind for me is motivational. I think he is doing a great thing by opening up a gym in addition to his book. How could anyone give up or say 'no' during a workout with Kyle at their side? This man is a living miracle and has truley motivated many people.

    January 7, 2009 at 10:47 am |
  232. Maynard

I think that this story is just amazing. The fact that Kyle has accomplished all of these tasks that some people without pyshical handicaps have trouble doing. He lives life as if he has no handicap and has gotten further tahn anyone probably ever thought possible.

    January 7, 2009 at 10:50 am |
  233. Nahomy

When I listened to the interview i was amazed, I was thakful for my arms and legs because even though I have my legs and arms I don't want to do the things he does without his 100% body . I really admire him!

    January 7, 2009 at 11:31 am |
  234. Branden

I think that it really would not matter weather he has hands and feet or not. All he has to do is be his self!

    January 7, 2009 at 11:45 am |
  235. Jennifer

Many people think that a man that with no feet and hands have trouble in lofe but someone like that is brave and lives life to the fullest.

    January 7, 2009 at 11:46 am |
  236. Jamie

it just goes to show that you don't need any hands or feet to do things in life and thats something to admire at

he does alot of thingswithout both arms and legs.

    January 7, 2009 at 12:18 pm |
  238. Elizabeth

This is an AWESOME story. I think that Kyle is really happy with the way he was made. He obviously likes the way he is and he doesn't plan on changing that anytime soon. He should be one of my idols!

    January 7, 2009 at 1:23 pm |
  239. Ashley

That is soooo cool! I wouldn't be able to lift 400 pounds in my life. I think that it is very inspire-able to everyone in the world.

    January 7, 2009 at 1:23 pm |
  240. Karisa

I think that is awesome, and it really inspires people. That is an amazing story that teaches you that if you persevere you can accomplish anything your heart desires. I also think now that it might help people that has cancer. It will brighten their day and hopefully encourage them to battle the disease.

    January 7, 2009 at 1:24 pm |

I think it is amazing that he has no arms or legs yet he can lift 400 pounds! It just shows that a little determination and a dream can go a long way.

This is cool that he can do all of this stuff and he is right we must not stop persevere.

    January 7, 2009 at 2:00 pm |
  247. Griffin

I think that it's amazing at the confidence he gave himself and the confidence that he has given everyone else. Most people in his situation would never make that kind of commitment. It's so incredible at what he has accomplished for others and his plans for the future.

    January 7, 2009 at 2:20 pm |
  248. Norm

It’s amazing that he can lift 400 lbs. with out arms and legs. Just because he has this congenital condition doesn’t mean he can’t do things like we can. Kyle has really inspired me. Keep up the good work Kyle.

    January 7, 2009 at 2:22 pm |
  249. Ricky

I think it takes a lot of courage to do what Kyle has done. Living with such a devastating disability would be the best excuse in the world to not accomplish anything. But it is awesome to know that there are people out there like Kyle that persevere through anything and become a model for others.

    January 7, 2009 at 2:24 pm |
  250. Alex

Kyle Maynard’s story is truly inspiring. Not only for people that have the same disabilities as him but also for everyone. His story shows people that just because you are disabled in one way or another you don’t have to give up and that if you keep going you can achieve what you really want and be happy with life.

    January 7, 2009 at 2:26 pm |

    January 7, 2009 at 8:03 pm |

That just goes to prove that anyone, no matter what can do the impossible, except maybe flying. That will probably take a miracle.

    January 7, 2009 at 8:33 pm |
  262. Kira

I agree with my friend Natalie. I have something to say, though. No Excuses is a great quote for all of us. If you ask me, if one of my friends had excuses, I would consider them wimpy.

    January 7, 2009 at 8:36 pm |
  263. Oliver

Wow! This is really something great! The way he is so determined and happy. I think more people should be like him. No, don't go and cut off you're arms! But have a similar attitude. This guy is awesome!

  265. Kevin

Kyle is a true messenger of faith. He uses his real life experiences to influence anyone to get up and go for their goal. I have overcame an acl reconstruction and praise God for the fast recovery. Kyle shows a true type of character that it's not about what you do in your life but how you use those experiences in order to positively influence others. Thank you, Kyle, for showing the world how to live life. God Bless.

I think that it is amazing that he is so persevering and so motivational and so good at what he does because i think that if I had his condition i wuold not go outside my house because I would be so self concious.

    January 8, 2009 at 11:33 am |
  276. Kiera

That is so cool that he didn't want anybody to see him as different or disabled. He just wanted to live a normal life.

    January 8, 2009 at 11:34 am |
  277. Katie

I think that this is really cool that some one has a disability and take it and turn it in to some thing that makes peoples life better and inspire them to do better and keep going no matter what other people that are trying to bring you down say . Overall i think that this person is really awesome . I also think that his mom and dad telling him that he was no different then any one else that is born with you limbs

    January 8, 2009 at 11:34 am |
  278. Lea

Wow he has really inspired me. And the fact that he wouldn't change the way he is i really cool. He works so hard on what he does and I think other people should do that too.

  279. Kaitlyn :D

I think that it is just amazing what he can do even though he has no arms and no legs. It is really great to see that he is happy and so determined to help a lot a people. He believes that if you try your best you can do anything you want to. People should try and feel that positive about what is happening right now, you know like with the economy and all the job loss. He kind of reminds me of FDR, like how he had polio, but kept trying at what he liked best. It is awesome!!!!!!!!!!!!

  283. Marcus

I too am a wrestler and know first hand how tough this sport is. Kyle has inspired me to not stop believing in myself and to keep pushing myslef. I think it's great how he can do so much with his condition and if he can do it and have time to write a book titled, " No Excuses" is amazing because of how he believes in not giving up and no matter what there's no excuses.

    January 8, 2009 at 11:46 pm |
  284. Devin

I believe that no excuse's is the modo that every body should use because he shows that even if you have no hands or no no feet and he still is a mini beast i believe that every body can do anything.

I think that it is amazing what this man can do with his ability, but I think some people just don't have the power-ability to do things they might just be to embarrassed.

This guy is an inspiration to me. I like that no matter what gets in his way he will overcome it, even with his disability. Many people should follow the "No Excuses" so they can do good in life. That is a good way to inspire the young kids...

I think that this story about Kyle is very inspiring and his example of perseverance is something that is important to be aware of. Not everyone has the ability to persevere or the energy to be determined, so Kyle's example of persevering throughout your life is one to look up to.

Kyle's example of persevering through out his whole life is one to look up to. Not everyone has the strength or ability to be determined and he's a great role model.

The story about Kyle, made me so amazed. Some of the things people that have arms and legs say they cant do when Kyle tries new things and most of the time proceeds. Like he said, he wrestled and actually took down some people after losing and then changing his technique. That makes me want to go out there and try thing I never thought i could do. One more thing how did he write his book he has no arms, no legs, AND no excuses

I feel that if he, being how he is is pretty incredible. he has no hands and no feet and more muscle and perseverance than anyone I know or any body knows!!!! To think that a man could bring some one to get going in his life and to reconsider suicide is absolutely amazing thing, in fact i don't think that any one could be that persuading without super powers.

I think that's awesome because most people who don't have hands and feet can't lift 400 pounds, and he doesn't have any.

I think it is amazing what Kyle Maynard as accomplished. He didn’t back down from the challenges presented to him. Watching someone overcome as much as he has really puts things into perspective for people who are too afraid to try even simple things that they might fail at.
