If You Could Go Anywhere...

Posted: 09:57 PM ET

...anywhere in history, that is, where would it be?

On Friday, we take you to what's billed as "virtual Rome" - a virtual-reality exhibit that aims to show tourists what Rome was like when the Colosseum was new.  Really cool idea, though I wondered why all of the characters in the exhibit had British accents.  (Shouldn't they have had Latin/Italian accents?)

Anyway, it got us talking about where we'd go if we could virtually travel to any city in history.  And that got us wondering about where you'd go if you could virtually travel to any city in history...

Call me selfish, But I'd go back in time before Google was invented and invent a magor search engine called Infinity. Then, I'd go back further and, like Merrill said, invest alot of the money I made from my search engine in Microsoft. I'd then come back to the present and buy a really fancy car, like a Lamborghini Murcielago. Then I'd hire really good scientists to turn my car into a time machine, like in "Back to the Future" so I could travel anywhere or anytime. Then, to make up for my selfishness, I'd go back in time and try to stop alot wars from happening. Then I'd invent alot of useful things before they were invented, this time not for the money, but for the good of helping people. But above all things, I'd go back in time and save myself from making a fool of myself sometime in my life.

tiana   November 17th, 2008 6:14 pm ET

If I could go to anytime I would go back to when there were dinosaurs. I would try to communicate with the dinosaurs and tell them that they were all going to die. If they knew they were going to die then they could try and prevent dying. I would be just like the flinstones. It would be cool to live with the dinosaurs.

Katey   November 18th, 2008 11:11 am ET

If I could go anywhere back in time, I would go to the 1812 war. The main reason is because in the beginning of the war, we were DIEING!!!!!! I just want to see the part where we turned around and sent them flying! I love war movies, so actually seeing the British run for their lives would just make my day!

Dana   November 18th, 2008 11:11 am ET

I would go back to the ancient Mid East. I want to witness what life was like for the nobles. I also want to see the Jewish prophets to see what went on. What I would want to see most of all is all of the things Jesus did. This would be a good experience.

gunnar   November 18th, 2008 11:11 am ET

I think I would probably go to Rome back when it was being built. I would like to go there because it would be cool to see the collosium and be in there. It would also be nice to see what Rome actually looked like before it was destroyed. That is why I would like to go to Rome

Chris   November 18th, 2008 11:11 am ET

If I could go anywhere than I would go back in time when Abraham Lincoln was president and see what he did to break the slave trade and how he got shot. I would want to see him because he seems like a very cool guy and I would like to see how smart he was why the person that shot him did it and see why and maybe change his mind.

Sarah   November 18th, 2008 11:12 am ET

If I could go back in time to any period, I think that I would want to go back to when the American Revolution took place. My reasoning for this would be because with the election just taking place and a spiffy new president elect in office, we kind of forgot what our country is about and what kind of virtues it was founded on. We get so caught up about what is "politically correct" and get so angry with our fellow citizens because of their political views that we forget about what makes us so great. We weren't founded on a "democratic" or "republican" discipline. It makes me sad, and I think that if everyone went back in time and learned to appreciate all of the hurt we had to go through to get our independence, we wouldn't get so caught up in the upcoming culture.

Allison   November 18th, 2008 11:12 am ET

If I could go anywhere in history, I would want to go back to the time of the ice age. I think it would be cool to experience my home town back in the time of no electricity and when the first humans evolved. Maybe I could show the cavemen civilization how to hunt and survive. Upon being in the time of the ice age, I would also do a little hunting. I love to hunt!

Kelsey   November 18th, 2008 11:13 am ET

I would like to go back to colonial times. I would want to go back to colonial times just to experience what everything was like. During those times there was no t.v's, video games, or any technology stuff and it would be so different. I think it was so interesting back then with all the pretty dresses, and I think it would be interesting to live in there houses and go to those schools.

Alayna   November 18th, 2008 11:13 am ET

I would want to go back in time to when I was born that way when ever something I did was bad or that I didn't like I could just go up to myself and say don't do that. People are always like oh I wish I hadn't done that. I could also like school myself and become the most smartest kid in the world. That would be really fun.

Sydney   November 18th, 2008 11:13 am ET

I think that I would want to go back to the Civil war time. I want to go back to that time because the women got to wear hoop-dress (which is a really puffy dress) and because they got to go to royal dances (balls). This is the time period that I would want to go back to.

summer   November 18th, 2008 11:13 am ET

I would definatly go back to the Dark times. It would be awesome to go back and see all of the castles and other things that they had back then that we don't have now. Also maybe I could find like a missing ancient weapon like a flame thrower from that age, and bring back the design and and get a lot of money for it. Maybe I could see if dragons actually existed at that time. Basically I would go back for my own purposes.

Martha   November 18th, 2008 11:17 am ET

I would go back to when civilization first was created and I would invent everything that doesn't pollute the air and helps us. Then, we would be more advanced in technology. If I invented everything, we would be dead by now.

Catherine   November 18th, 2008 11:17 am ET

if i could travel to any city in history i would travel to ancient Ciro, Egypt. I would choose to go there because todays scientists don’t know everything about them, and going there could really help us. mariah   November 18th, 2008 11:20 am ET

If i could go back to when the civil war took place i would. I would like to go there for many reasons. first of all i want to go back in those times to see what those people were like and how people lived and compare them to us and how we live and how we are like. I would just get a lot of my questions answered. Maybe i would see my some people that i know that aren't alive now just like my grandpa. if i were able to go back in the time that the civil war took place then i would be as happy as i can be only because i would have experienced a lot more than my friends and family that are here today. I would love to go back in the olden days. You know we can if you want to get a time machine(ha, ha) that was a joke. But like i said i would love to go back when the civil war took place.

Alexa   November 18th, 2008 11:20 am ET

If I could go back i time, I would go back to when I was very little and I would like to see how I acted, and what I did or said when I was little. Like all the time people are like, "Oh I wish I wouldn't have done that or, I wish I would have done that different." If I could go to another place, I would want to go back to egyption time, because that time in history, I think is so cool, I would live in a pyramid and I would rule a place in egypt and with other stuff like what they wear and what they eat, and other stuff like that.

~Sarah~   November 18th, 2008 11:28 am ET

Where would i go if i could go back in time? I would go back to the time of Rosa Parks. I would go because back then blacks were forced to do things they did not want to, like give their seats to a white person on the bus. I don't think that is right they should have never made them do that. I would have done the same thing as her if i was in that situation and was her. If i did go back to that time period i would stand up for her and all the other people that were forced to do what they didn't want to. I would have did my best to help them even if that means me getting killed or something like that. Also i would like to go back to the time of the slaves. I would go back then because i would like to help them escape or i would make sure they were never slaves ever again. i don't like the way the people back then were treated it was not right and if i was there i would have done something about it or at least tried my best. I don't like people treating others like garbage, it is not right no one is better then anyone else. So i would love to go back to the time when the blacks were treated like they were bad people.

amber   November 18th, 2008 11:32 am ET

If I could go back in time I would choose to go back to where there were not a lot of electronics invented yet. Like, computers, i-pods, MP3 players, and game systems. My mom always tells me to go outside to find something to do and to not watch T.V. or stay on the computer all day because she never had any of the the things all the teens have now these days and the fresh air is better for you. If people were back in the old days and didn't electronics they would probably be more active.

I would actually like to see the damage and explosion because no one ever gets into the bombing of Nagasaki as much as the bombing of Hiroshima.
